- 0:05Speaker 1: two five Pro Football.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The insider I've covered while.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Jeff Legwald too cute, Let's dial down the queue and just.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Play football, brought to you by the International Brotherhood of
- 0:17Speaker 1: Electrical Workers.

- 0:21Speaker 4: sixty eight.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's Leggy, Yef Jeff Yeah ye on Altitude Sports Radio
- 0:27Speaker 1: ninety two five. Andy, I got a feeling, Jeff, Jeff,
- 0:35Speaker 1: Jeff Jeff is going to have a strong showing coming
- 0:38Speaker 1: up and drop of the year today at five o'clock.
- 0:43Speaker 1: The enjoyment that we got out of Sean Payton's disappointment
- 0:46Speaker 1: in our next guest, disappoint. I don't know if disappointments
- 0:49Speaker 1: the word annoyance. Perhaps Jeff Legwald joins us right now
- 0:56Speaker 1: here on a Monday afternoon, Leggy, the Broncos got no
- 0:59Speaker 1: help at all over the weekend. Say, for one little
- 1:03Speaker 1: lightem the Chiefs winning and beating Houston if they win
- 1:08Speaker 1: on Wednesday, which we have NFL football on Wednesday. Let's
- 1:12Speaker 1: just all pretend that's totally normal for a moment. But
- 1:15Speaker 1: if the Chiefs win on Wednesday, history has told us
- 1:18Speaker 1: that Andy Reid has no problem just benching everybody and
- 1:23Speaker 1: getting them out of there. Meaning even if the Broncos
- 1:25Speaker 1: go out to Cincinnati and lose and possibly inclement conditions
- 1:30Speaker 1: coming up here on Saturday, well they could be playing
- 1:32Speaker 1: the Chiefs B team coming up in week eighteen.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if you want to leave it
- 1:38Speaker 3: up to somebody else. I guess that would be my
- 1:41Speaker 3: issue with all of that. And you know, yes, they
- 1:44Speaker 3: do have two to win one, but they didn't get
- 1:48Speaker 3: any favors, They didn't do themselves any favors. And I
- 1:52Speaker 3: don't you know one thing I would I would wonder
- 1:56Speaker 3: after Thursday was that was that was really the first
- 2:00Speaker 3: big moment test for this team? And do you want
- 2:04Speaker 3: to put it all on the regular season finale against
- 2:08Speaker 3: the team backups are not that has a whole lot
- 2:12Speaker 3: of more big moments on its resume than you do.
- 2:15Speaker 3: And that that would be my concern against the Chiefs
- 2:18Speaker 3: B team throughout is that they've just been around this
- 2:23Speaker 3: type of thing more than the Broncos have. And uh,
- 2:28Speaker 3: you know, maybe in Clement Weather's okay, if you know,
- 2:31Speaker 3: the Bengals can't pass the ball all over the place.
- 2:34Speaker 3: But history has also shown us passing offenses often due okay,
- 2:40Speaker 3: and on a snowy you know, non windy day.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Well let's just do it too. Is Burrow he plays
- 2:45Speaker 1: in those conditions all the time. Yeah, he's used to
- 2:48Speaker 1: it up in Ohio.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Yeah, they started at Ohio State before going to else
- 2:53Speaker 4: l s U.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so you know, again, you just you know, don't
- 2:56Speaker 3: leave it up to somebody else. And you know, even
- 3:00Speaker 3: if you you know, get the Chiefs B team and
- 3:03Speaker 3: that's how it all works out, you didn't exactly come
- 3:06Speaker 3: down the stretch ready for the postseason in that scenario.
- 3:11Speaker 3: So the Broncos could just do themselves a favor and
- 3:15Speaker 3: just you know, handle their own business and approach it
- 3:19Speaker 3: like they have to handle their own business. And I
- 3:21Speaker 3: think it's very telling. The head coach feels the same
- 3:26Speaker 3: way because Sean Payton did not adjust the schedule in
- 3:30Speaker 3: any fashion really a little bit, but not in terms
- 3:34Speaker 3: of practice times and what time they're going to be
- 3:37Speaker 3: on the field, you know, this week for Christmas, he
- 3:41Speaker 3: just didn't. You know, They're they're treating it like this
- 3:45Speaker 3: is a normal game week and for them, tomorrow is
- 3:48Speaker 3: Wednesday in the in a normal game week their schedule.
- 3:51Speaker 3: You know, Christmas will be a uh you know, a
- 3:55Speaker 3: what Thursday would look.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Like on a normal week.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So he didn't do it any uh fantastical adjustments for
- 4:03Speaker 3: the holiday week really, because I think he knows this,
- 4:08Speaker 3: this is an important week for them just to handle
- 4:11Speaker 3: their their business.
- 4:12Speaker 4: You know, I gotta say, my guy Krekman is one
- 4:14Speaker 4: of the more journal journalistic based talk show hosts I've
- 4:17Speaker 4: ever seen, so I'm a little surprised he buried the
- 4:20Speaker 4: lead in this whole thing. Jeff Legwald was yours nonsense
- 4:26Speaker 4: that Sean Payton was reading that he did not like.
- 4:29Speaker 4: As far as the narrative about the end of the
- 4:31Speaker 4: half or whatever.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I thought the word garbage was what
- 4:37Speaker 3: what gave it away?
- 4:42Speaker 2: All Right, I'm not sure.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I'm not sure you could sweep it under the rug
- 4:46Speaker 3: with a field goal on your next possession and what
- 4:50Speaker 3: turned out to almost be your last score of the game.
- 4:52Speaker 3: But uh yeah, I think the end of the half
- 4:55Speaker 3: had something to do with how the rest of the
- 4:57Speaker 3: game went.
- 4:58Speaker 2: But that's just you know.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Uh, I have worked on a garbage truck, so I
- 5:03Speaker 3: know it when I see it.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I guess, Wow, what make kind of asked, I mean, look,
- 5:09Speaker 4: I who stand Sean. Sean likes to let people, most
- 5:12Speaker 4: coaches like to let the media know they're reading the stories.
- 5:15Speaker 4: But why this, why now do you think I just
- 5:18Speaker 4: wanted to.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Probably a little frustrated, you know, yeah, he wants, he
- 5:23Speaker 3: wants to get the win, you know, he he he
- 5:27Speaker 3: is said all along, he believes this is a playoff team,
- 5:30Speaker 3: and he you know, you know, he doesn't lose double
- 5:33Speaker 3: digit games, and he's he has bristled against the preseason
- 5:37Speaker 3: expectations of this team, you know, all along.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So uh, not a shock.
- 5:44Speaker 1: No, And to me it almost felt personal, Leggy, because
- 5:49Speaker 1: so much of the critique came of his really his
- 5:53Speaker 1: work and you know, being mad at Amazon and Thursday
- 5:56Speaker 1: Night Football for for showing his play sheet and everything
- 5:59Speaker 1: else like that. The embarrassment only simps from the fact
- 6:02Speaker 1: that he didn't run the football. And that's why I
- 6:05Speaker 1: looked bad that he had written run it on his
- 6:07Speaker 1: play sheet and then yet seem to ignore his own
- 6:10Speaker 1: advice right there. So I think what you got was
- 6:12Speaker 1: some frustration out of Sean Payton right there. As for
- 6:16Speaker 1: the rest of this team, Leggy, where where is Where
- 6:21Speaker 1: are their heads? At right now before going to play
- 6:24Speaker 1: a tough road game against a pretty hot team of
- 6:26Speaker 1: the Bengals, you.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Know, and you know, I don't I don't know that
- 6:30Speaker 2: we know that yet, Nate.
- 6:31Speaker 3: You know, we'll see him on the practice field tomorrow
- 6:33Speaker 3: and you can kind of get a rhythm of things
- 6:37Speaker 3: then and then you know, I think, you know, as
- 6:40Speaker 3: odd as it sounds, you know, seeing how they do
- 6:44Speaker 3: their work tomorrow in Christmas Day will give it will
- 6:46Speaker 3: be an indication of where, you know, how dialed in
- 6:50Speaker 3: they are really, because it's easy to look choppy this week.
- 6:55Speaker 3: You know, players are like the rest of us. They
- 6:57Speaker 3: got family in town. Everybody wants to know when you're
- 6:59Speaker 3: gonna be home, When can we do this? When can
- 7:01Speaker 3: we do that? When are we going to do all this?
- 7:04Speaker 3: You know, where's everybody going to stay? You know, they're
- 7:07Speaker 3: like us in that regard, and you know that's often
- 7:11Speaker 3: difficult for them to collate when their workplace is so
- 7:16Speaker 3: focused on something else and is a very public place
- 7:20Speaker 3: to do your business. You know, So I think it's
- 7:23Speaker 3: it's a it's an important week for them to sort
- 7:26Speaker 3: of show a little more maturity overall as a group
- 7:30Speaker 3: than they did last week because you know, again I
- 7:33Speaker 3: you know, to have the success you did on the
- 7:36Speaker 3: first drive of the game and never revisit it, that's
- 7:40Speaker 3: seriously in the offense.
- 7:42Speaker 2: You know, that's on the play caller.
- 7:43Speaker 3: And he has expressed frustration with how they run the
- 7:47Speaker 3: ball all season, and I still contend, you know, he's
- 7:51Speaker 3: got the play card in his hand. He's in charge
- 7:54Speaker 3: of how much they run it, when they run it,
- 7:56Speaker 3: how committed they are to it, and he's obviously having
- 8:01Speaker 3: some difficulty in fitting bo Nicks into the run schemes
- 8:07Speaker 3: that have the kind of success they have. And I
- 8:10Speaker 3: think that's really why they get away from him, And
- 8:13Speaker 3: he doesn't want to say that out loud. That's just
- 8:15Speaker 3: my opinion, but I think that's what's going on all.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Right, Legs.
- 8:21Speaker 4: There's weather in the forecast, a little bit of wind,
- 8:24Speaker 4: a little bit of rain maybe you know, I don't know.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Up there, rain can turn to snow pretty quickly. How
- 8:30Speaker 4: big a deal is that, do you think, for how
- 8:32Speaker 4: they've handled the last two days like that, or is
- 8:35Speaker 4: it a big deal They just got to put it
- 8:36Speaker 4: out of their mind and go deal with it.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Well, you got to deal with it. Welcome to the NFL.
- 8:40Speaker 3: You know you're gonna have bad weather games. But the
- 8:44Speaker 3: worst weather game this team played this year was the Jets,
- 8:47Speaker 3: and you know, tell me how that looked on offense
- 8:50Speaker 3: for everybody all around.
- 8:51Speaker 2: So that.
- 8:53Speaker 3: In what little weather they've had to play in this year,
- 8:57Speaker 3: they have not been spectacular.
- 9:00Speaker 1: No, it has has not been the case for this
- 9:02Speaker 1: team so far. And again, like we talked about Cincinnati,
- 9:05Speaker 1: they're more conditioned to be able to deal with this
- 9:07Speaker 1: kind of thing, and they got a quarterback that has
- 9:09Speaker 1: won a lot of games in poor weather before. So
- 9:12Speaker 1: LEGI let's talk a little bit about the strength of
- 9:14Speaker 1: the Broncos team, which is their defense. Uh, do we
- 9:16Speaker 1: believe it will have the services of Riley Moss back
- 9:19Speaker 1: this week?
- 9:21Speaker 3: You know, it still looks to me like they're hoping
- 9:24Speaker 3: and targeting that. But again I think I think the
- 9:28Speaker 3: Wednesday Thursday practice double.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Dip for them. Uh, you know we won't.
- 9:35Speaker 3: We won't see them Thursday because they you know that
- 9:38Speaker 3: that would traditionally be the Saturday type of or we
- 9:42Speaker 3: will see him Thursday, not Friday rather, But so what
- 9:46Speaker 3: he does Thursday and Friday this week I think are
- 9:48Speaker 3: the big things. How does he recover what does he
- 9:51Speaker 3: feel like, But he was doing more and more this
- 9:54Speaker 3: past week, so I think that's the target. And h
- 10:00Speaker 3: you know, just we've seen how important he is to
- 10:03Speaker 3: the defense over the last few weeks. I mean they
- 10:06Speaker 3: one game they had a failing sort of of technique,
- 10:11Speaker 3: you know, against the Browns, and Thursday night they had
- 10:15Speaker 3: a failing and assignments with just dropping coverage on there
- 10:19Speaker 3: on the quarterback's favorite receiver. That's that's just botched passovers
- 10:24Speaker 3: and carryovers in his own defense and losing a guy
- 10:29Speaker 3: at the line of scrimmage.
- 10:30Speaker 1: By the way, Leggy. Mike Sando had had a graphic
- 10:34Speaker 1: today in his column on the Athletic and it was
- 10:37Speaker 1: specifically related to Detroit and the fact that the Lions
- 10:41Speaker 1: had twenty two dudes either on ir pup or out
- 10:46Speaker 1: this week. The Broncos scroll down, scroll down, scroll down
- 10:51Speaker 1: four is their total as we go into week seventeen
- 10:56Speaker 1: of the NFL season. What's it play here, Leggy, strength
- 10:59Speaker 1: and conditioning staff, dumb luck, overwhelming pressure from the organization
- 11:05Speaker 1: to get guys on the field. What's going on to
- 11:07Speaker 1: Denver right now? Is this healthy? At this time of year?
- 11:12Speaker 3: I would see all of the above that there's always
- 11:15Speaker 3: the luck component, and it's dangerous for anybody in the
- 11:18Speaker 3: league to pretend it's not, you know, And I've often
- 11:23Speaker 3: to trite as an anomaly because usually the best teams
- 11:27Speaker 3: with the best records are often the healthiest, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 3: this time of year. But they, I think, other than
- 11:35Speaker 3: on defense, where they've been decimated, offensively, they've stayed away
- 11:39Speaker 3: from the injuries that would crush them the most, except
- 11:43Speaker 3: the Montgomery thing may turn out to be big in
- 11:45Speaker 3: the postseason, but otherwise they've kept very, very important players
- 11:52Speaker 3: offensively in the lineup, and that's been big. But yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 3: it's conditioning and all of it plays a part, but
- 11:59Speaker 3: good for fortune is the biggest component, and no matter
- 12:02Speaker 3: what anybody says, that will always be true.
- 12:06Speaker 1: That's gonna do it for Jeff Legwald here on a
- 12:09Speaker 1: lovely Monday edition of the show, Leggy, beautiful work as always,
- 12:13Speaker 1: have a great holiday, hope you enjoyed it. A line
- 12:15Speaker 1: on victory yesterday, Have yourself a good Christmas, man, and
- 12:19Speaker 1: we'll talk to you next week.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Happy holidays to everybody. Thanks man, seem all right.
