- 0:00Alright guys, so we're going to explore how the book opened up about a week in Trump's
- 0:06life in 1987.
- 0:08So this is the Monday.
- 0:11First call is with the CEO of Bear Stearns, then a very large Wall Street investment bank
- 0:17that has since been acquired by JP Morgan.
- 0:20We see here that Trump was already respected by top Wall Street CEOs.
- 0:28And here he was essentially weighing his option to take control of the Holiday Inn Hotel Group,
- 0:35which was already a very big presence in the business world then.
- 0:42He then gets a call from someone, a developer in the real estate who wants to get into politics,
- 0:48Trump showing he's a good judge of character and potential, telling him that he's not quite
- 0:55cut out for politics despite being a great developer.
- 1:01This is what he recommends.
- 1:02He tells him to bet on winners and good people, and given that he was friendly with the governor
- 1:09of New York at the time, he suggested introducing him to the governor.
- 1:16And essentially, if you can't beat them, join them.
- 1:20And that's what he recommended to his friend.
- 1:24Then he takes a call with a radio host where he's sensitive to a woman who's in financial
- 1:32difficulties.
- 1:34We learn from here that he's generous with his gifts, whether it's skill set, network,
- 1:39and properties.
- 1:40Basically, he uses influence over a radio network and with other radio hosts to raise
- 1:48funds for that woman and help her through her financial ordeal.
- 1:55He also takes another call with lawyers for different projects, and he recommends to be
- 2:01tough when necessary.
- 2:02He says, the fact is that if you're right, you've got to take a stand or people will
- 2:07walk all over you.
- 2:10Essentially, and this is where a lot of sense of conviction come from, that he believes
- 2:17that when you're right, you have the duty to take a stand, and not doing that is unfair
- 2:28to you and maybe unfair, period.
- 2:34He encourages us, himself and everyone, to be tough when necessary, especially when you
- 2:40have the fact on your side and that you have reasons to believe you're correct.
- 2:50He comments another call that he doesn't hold it against people that they oppose him.
- 2:58I'm just looking to hire the best talent wherever I can find it.
- 3:02We see here that he did do that with picking JD Vance as running mate.
- 3:09He disregarded JD Vance's comments that were negative about Trump in 2015, 2016.
- 3:17That was way back things have evolved.
- 3:21First of all, JD Vance has changed.
- 3:23And as JD Vance says on the All In podcast, Trump has reassessed his qualities and believes
- 3:35at this point in time that JD Vance is right back and is probably grooming him for the
- 3:40next set of leadership mandates.
- 3:45This is to show that Trump really, in this case, is not about vindication, it's more
- 3:52about whom can help him get the best job done.
- 3:56He then says something that I think for professionals we can relate to a lot.
- 4:02He says that going out for lunch is mostly a waste of time.
- 4:05So he doesn't go out for lunch.
- 4:06If we look at his schedule for that day, basically he's out only from, no, he's not out.
- 4:12He's at his desk eating lunch from 3 p.m. to 3 15.
- 4:16So quick 15 minute lunch.
- 4:21Then goes on to the other calls.
- 4:23For example, he takes a call with his sister.
- 4:26And here we see that he was already, no, he knew the justice system.
- 4:33Well, his sister being a federal court judge in New Jersey, the late Mary Ann Trump Mary.
- 4:41And then he takes a call with another of his business partner who is going to meet the
- 4:46Australian government to develop casinos or other real estate ventures there.
- 4:53And we see that Trump was already exposed to high stakes interactions with foreign governments
- 4:58and getting things done internationally.
- 5:02And finally, Trump always made time for his family.
- 5:05We see that he at noon he was calling a Broadway executive.
- 5:13They talked about business, but he mentioned to the executive that he had plans to take
- 5:16his kids to see cats.
- 5:19And by the way, he refused complimentary tickets, just saying that he was going to go bring
- 5:26his kids there.
- 5:27That was he planned beforehand for a second time.
- 5:32And he says that he always makes time for his family.
- 5:35Basically, here's a quote, I always take calls from my kids, no matter what I'm doing.
- 5:41I have two others referring to Monica and Eric.
- 5:46And as they get older, being a father gets easier.
- 5:50I adore them all.
- 5:51And that's at the point in his life in 1987 when he only had three kids.
- 5:55So he's referring to Don Jr. who's making the call and his two other kids who are a
- 6:00bit younger.
- 6:02And yeah, so here to summarize, Trump was well known to Wall Street.
- 6:09He knew how to get stuff done with foreign governments and knew how the justice system
- 6:14worked.
- 6:16He exposes here some of his philosophies.
- 6:19And I hope that you learned something from this first day at Trump Tower.
