- 0:31Speaker 2: chicken it ki Kee.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Kicking It
- 0:43Speaker 1: with Kiki, Life, love and all that other ship. I
- 0:46Speaker 1: am your host, the author Kiki Chanel, Award winning author,
- 0:50Speaker 1: lifestyle blogger, owner of nineteen Lifestyle Magazine. Today, I'm joined
- 0:55Speaker 1: with the regular of the show now right Daylor and
- 1:02Speaker 1: we're going to talk about some great things that he
- 1:03Speaker 1: has coming in store. We're going to talk about something
- 1:08Speaker 1: a milestone that he just had. Yes, so proud of him.
- 1:12Speaker 1: He is also one of the contributing authors of nineteen
- 1:16Speaker 1: Lifestyle Magazine. So Jayleen, telling people who you are, how
- 1:19Speaker 1: you doing, Thank you for coming to Kicking it with
- 1:21Speaker 1: me today.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I'm doing good. I'm happy to be here. So for
- 1:24Speaker 3: those of y'all don't know me, my name's Jaylen Martin.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I've been writing ever since I've been thirteen published authors
- 1:31Speaker 3: since I've been sixteen. I recently just gained my first
- 1:36Speaker 3: best selling book on Amazon.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Congratulations, I'm so proud of you.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So before we get into all things Jayleen, we're going
- 1:46Speaker 1: to talk a little bit about life and love and
- 1:48Speaker 1: all that other stuff. The last time where you were
- 1:51Speaker 1: here was a few months ago. So how has life
- 1:54Speaker 1: been life in since then?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Life has been a whirlwind. Like ever since I Talked
- 1:59Speaker 3: to Horses has been released, I received like a lot
- 2:02Speaker 3: of positive feedback. More people are wanting to engage in
- 2:06Speaker 3: equin therapy, especially when I shared like my stories and
- 2:10Speaker 3: my reasoning behind why I started doing equin therapy to
- 2:13Speaker 3: begin with. It's something people are excited about. People feels
- 2:17Speaker 3: that it's definitely beneficial and it's also for free, and
- 2:21Speaker 3: it's also very healing as well. So I'm just very
- 2:25Speaker 3: happy that not only my poetry but also play like
- 2:27Speaker 3: I could play like a part and people wanting to
- 2:30Speaker 3: engage in this.
- 2:31Speaker 1: For those who may not know what equin therapy is,
- 2:34Speaker 1: let's talk about that a little bit. Explain to the
- 2:37Speaker 1: listeners what that it actually is.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Of course, So equin therapy is a therapeutic process that
- 2:43Speaker 3: incorporates horses. So if you've heard of goat yoga, it's
- 2:49Speaker 3: kind of like that you bond with the horse and
- 2:54Speaker 3: it's it's for free, like I've been friends with the
- 2:57Speaker 3: horse that I bond with for like over a year now.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Bo bo Yes real good.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Okay, yes, absolutely when it comes to life now, because
- 3:08Speaker 1: I know you are are recovering, you know, I don't
- 3:13Speaker 1: want to call you an addict, but I guess I
- 3:16Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, just just just talk about I
- 3:19Speaker 1: don't want to I don't want to offend. I don't
- 3:21Speaker 1: want to offend you in any way.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I'm not offended. I am recovering alcoholic and it is
- 3:27Speaker 3: one of the reasons why I've started doing equin therapy
- 3:30Speaker 3: because I had a lot of unresolved trauma back from
- 3:34Speaker 3: my college days that I was still inhaled from and
- 3:39Speaker 3: when I'm what I've mainly learned from equin therapy is
- 3:43Speaker 3: that not only horses, but animals can be much more
- 3:47Speaker 3: loving than people. And I believe I said this the
- 3:50Speaker 3: last time, but I'll say it again, but when horses love,
- 3:53Speaker 3: they love blindly. They don't care who you are, they
- 3:56Speaker 3: just know, they just feel the energy and they resume
- 4:00Speaker 3: that same energy back.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Right, So, how's had journey been? Have you you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: had any setbacks? Have you have? How's how's it been
- 4:08Speaker 1: going with your sobriety?
- 4:10Speaker 3: Very good, I've been I've been sober for two years
- 4:14Speaker 3: and I just gained my two year sobriety tip in AA.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Absolutely congratulations, congratulations. So let's talk about Amazon bestseller? Yes, yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 1: so how do you feel? Soaked that in? Tell the listeners,
- 4:30Speaker 1: how do you feel about that? Because you were here
- 4:32Speaker 1: promoting your book when you were here the last.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Time, yes, the book was even released.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so talk about that. How did that? How did
- 4:40Speaker 1: that all happen? When you found out that you're an
- 4:42Speaker 1: Amazon bestseller? How did you feel? How do you feel?
- 4:45Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie, there are some days where I'm
- 4:47Speaker 3: just like, Wow, I actually have like this title. So
- 4:51Speaker 3: there's some days I'm just like, is this like really real?
- 4:53Speaker 3: Like I'm still partially waiting to wake up because I've
- 4:57Speaker 3: been writing for like years, Like this is like you've
- 5:01Speaker 3: known me for a very long time, so you know
- 5:03Speaker 3: this isn't something that happened overnight. This is year's worth
- 5:07Speaker 3: of hard work behind me, and just it's all about
- 5:13Speaker 3: just reaching out to like the right people and putting
- 5:15Speaker 3: yourself out there. The correct way, and eventually everything else
- 5:21Speaker 3: is gonna piece itself together.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Absolutely, let's talk about that a little bit, especially when
- 5:27Speaker 1: it comes to life and all that other shit, because
- 5:30Speaker 1: all that other shit happens. Right Absolutely, stand the course
- 5:35Speaker 1: and not giving up, always showing up for yourself even
- 5:38Speaker 1: through the midst of adversity, because life happens and adversity
- 5:41Speaker 1: will come. But talk to someone who may be listening.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Can you tell them something encouraging that will inspire them
- 5:50Speaker 1: to keep pushing, keep going, keep showing up, being consistent
- 5:54Speaker 1: no matter what.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Well to anyone out there who is listening. I mean
- 6:00Speaker 3: this is gonna sound pretty basic, but just don't give
- 6:02Speaker 3: up Like this is. I've been working hard at this
- 6:05Speaker 3: since I was thirteen years old, not giving up yet.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Although I've received that Amazon bestseller title, there's still a
- 6:13Speaker 3: whole lot of work to do. Now that I've earned
- 6:16Speaker 3: that title, there's still more work to do. So even
- 6:20Speaker 3: when you achieve like that goal, just don't get complacent.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Find another goal, find another dream, find something that keeps
- 6:28Speaker 3: you going. Because the more work you out onto yourself,
- 6:31Speaker 3: the more you grow. So don't slow down whatever you do,
- 6:36Speaker 3: just like keep going. Like all guys snow.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Breaks, Oh gas, no breaks, y'all. Hear to hear from
- 6:41Speaker 1: Jalen He is talking about being an Amazon best seller.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I know a lot of people take that title and
- 6:49Speaker 1: it goes to their head. How have you stayed grounded
- 6:53Speaker 1: in the midst of being of a bestseller?
- 6:55Speaker 3: Absolutely, I have to stay grounded because regardless if it's Amazon,
- 7:00Speaker 3: I'm Bestseller, New York Times Bestseller, Today, bestseller. At the
- 7:04Speaker 3: end of the day, I'm still a person first, Like,
- 7:07Speaker 3: I absolutely cannot forget like all the sacrifices, because I've
- 7:11Speaker 3: made a lot of sacrifices just to even get to
- 7:13Speaker 3: this point. And that's something I just can't forget about.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And that's something that always keeps me in mind whenever
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm working on my next project or when I'm promoting,
- 7:22Speaker 3: I always have to I always have to remember, like
- 7:25Speaker 3: even though I'm twenty four, deep down, I'm still that
- 7:27Speaker 3: thirteen year old with a dream who would do whatever
- 7:31Speaker 3: it takes to achieve that and still would do whatever
- 7:34Speaker 3: it takes to achieve more so's it's a quote. It's
- 7:40Speaker 3: a quote from Black It's a quote from Black Panther.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I wanted to say and when Sury says just because
- 7:45Speaker 3: something works doesn't mean it does not need to be improved.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Quote by Princess Shuri herself.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I love that and that's one of my favorite movies.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So yeah, because I'm a nerd, you know I love it.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Oh yes, all.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Right, So we're gonna talk about your upcoming spoken word
- 8:03Speaker 1: country album. Tell us about that. How you got into that?
- 8:07Speaker 3: So I've gotten to country music like a year ago,
- 8:10Speaker 3: like right after I got out of college. I've always
- 8:15Speaker 3: been to Luke colmbs fan, but like I started going,
- 8:19Speaker 3: I start going diving deeper into like the nineties country
- 8:23Speaker 3: to country today, and it's such a magical genre. Like
- 8:29Speaker 3: there's son I'm still learning things about. Like there's so
- 8:32Speaker 3: much about this music that so many people do not know.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I mean, people can feel about however they feel about
- 8:41Speaker 3: Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, but I hold that album to a
- 8:45Speaker 3: very high pedestal because despite how people feel about the album,
- 8:50Speaker 3: it wasn't until that album that a lot of people
- 8:53Speaker 3: dive deep into the roots of country music and not
- 8:56Speaker 3: only wanted to learn more, but wanted to listen to
- 8:59Speaker 3: all of this of it. And I have so many
- 9:03Speaker 3: favorite country artists. Would be here all day, but a
- 9:07Speaker 3: lot of these poems and I talk to horses, they
- 9:09Speaker 3: read like country songs. So like, after performing so many
- 9:13Speaker 3: like at the local clubs and bars and Lake Charles,
- 9:18Speaker 3: that's when I decided to do like a spoken word
- 9:21Speaker 3: not only a spoken word album, but a spoken word
- 9:23Speaker 3: country album. So it's my voice not reading the poems.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Anybody could read the poems, but it's me. It's me
- 9:29Speaker 3: and my raw emotion saying the poems provided by country
- 9:35Speaker 3: music instrumentals by my good friend Taylor Fillion, who's a
- 9:39Speaker 3: musical artist out here in Lake Charles.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Okay, nice, Nice? So when when are you working on
- 9:45Speaker 1: it now? Is it coming out this year or is
- 9:47Speaker 1: going to come out when you finish?
- 9:49Speaker 3: It comes out August fifteenth to all music stream platforms.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Listen. I love because I'm that you when you wear
- 10:00Speaker 1: a baby at a book festival, and to see how
- 10:06Speaker 1: much you've grown and overcome, overcome all of the things
- 10:09Speaker 1: that that you have gone through, graduating college, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 1: become teacher, continue to write and put out things. It's
- 10:19Speaker 1: just amazing that you didn't quit because some of the
- 10:22Speaker 1: stuff that you talked about in your last interview, and
- 10:24Speaker 1: I'm not gonna share that you guys, go back. It's
- 10:26Speaker 1: on the platform. You can listen to it. But it
- 10:30Speaker 1: was very hard. I could tell that you went through
- 10:32Speaker 1: a hard time, a dark time, and you're sitting here
- 10:37Speaker 1: now fulfilling your dream, smiling and looking beautiful doing so.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I am just so have a fan in me and
- 10:45Speaker 1: I always tell you that that I'm so proud of you.
- 10:47Speaker 1: So you continue to be an inspiration because you are
- 10:50Speaker 1: and we need more people like you in this world.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm emotional. So we're going to talk about your fantasy
- 10:57Speaker 1: is coming out next next year. So yes, what they
- 11:01Speaker 1: can expect, what inspired you to write it?
- 11:04Speaker 3: And it is it.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Alikans alagans alkans. Okay, all right, that's that up. Y'all listen,
- 11:14Speaker 1: but yeah, it's okay. Tell the people about the fantasy book,
- 11:19Speaker 1: what inspired it, and what they can expect.
- 11:23Speaker 3: So Alakans is possibly my biggest project today. This is
- 11:29Speaker 3: the start of a multi book series. Because first met me,
- 11:32Speaker 3: I was doing a sci fi trilogy. I was wrapping
- 11:35Speaker 3: that up. So I've seen this series going to either
- 11:38Speaker 3: five to six books. It is a huge world. So
- 11:44Speaker 3: this idea came about like when I was at MacNeice.
- 11:49Speaker 3: So this book was in the works during the COVID
- 11:51Speaker 3: era back in twenty twenty. So I was up in
- 11:55Speaker 3: like Monroe, like just debating if I even wanted to
- 11:59Speaker 3: continue it because twenty twenty was such a crazy year,
- 12:02Speaker 3: like we were in Monroe for Hurricane Laura, and did
- 12:05Speaker 3: Hurricane dealt to happen? And I'm just like, I'm just
- 12:08Speaker 3: I'm just I was like, I'm just so like exhausted,
- 12:10Speaker 3: plus me dealing with the pandemic. But then summer of
- 12:14Speaker 3: twenty twenty one, I have finished the book, but I
- 12:17Speaker 3: never just up and published it. I always went back
- 12:19Speaker 3: and forth, read it, fixed it up and everything to
- 12:24Speaker 3: the point I'm just like, you know what, I have
- 12:25Speaker 3: a finished manuscript. What I have is what I have.
- 12:28Speaker 3: This is a multibook series. Whatever ideas I don't use
- 12:31Speaker 3: for this one, I can, I can use it for
- 12:33Speaker 3: its upcoming sequels. So Ale Can tells the story of
- 12:37Speaker 3: nineteen year old Florian Casturo from a small a fictional
- 12:41Speaker 3: small town in Louisiana, who discovers that he has magical
- 12:44Speaker 3: fire abilities after a monstrous creature called a night Lane
- 12:49Speaker 3: and so this causes to unearth like a certain family hit.
- 12:53Speaker 3: After learning this, that's when he goes to this other
- 12:56Speaker 3: universe called Alec and he enrolls at the magical college
- 13:02Speaker 3: called Lanacea University, which is heavily inspired by my alma mater,
- 13:06Speaker 3: Mechneese State University. There's a lot of similarities between the schools,
- 13:10Speaker 3: and so there that's when he joined us guild. So
- 13:14Speaker 3: in this world, guilds are a substitution for fraternities and sororities.
- 13:19Speaker 3: There's the all men, there's the all male guilds, the
- 13:22Speaker 3: all female guilds. And the guild that he'll join is
- 13:25Speaker 3: a co ed guild and it's an up and coming guild,
- 13:28Speaker 3: so there's only like five members so far, and they
- 13:31Speaker 3: help him find out who he is and what his
- 13:34Speaker 3: passes and how he can control his abilities. Because when
- 13:38Speaker 3: when you're like when you're a college kid with bad
- 13:41Speaker 3: anxiety and fire can come out of your hands at
- 13:44Speaker 3: any times, it's a very stressful time for this young
- 13:48Speaker 3: man's life. Basically, I'm a lover for two thousand fantasy,
- 13:53Speaker 3: like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed the Vampire Darist. Those
- 13:58Speaker 3: are heavily inspired when I wrote this book, and I
- 14:02Speaker 3: really hope those are the readers that I could draw
- 14:05Speaker 3: in with this.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Oh, I'm definitely getting this book because you just named
- 14:09Speaker 1: like the top shows that I love. I always go
- 14:13Speaker 1: back and watch the Bnpire Diaries. I'm watching The Angel now.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I found it on, so I'm watching that now. Oh
- 14:22Speaker 1: my goodness. Not to mean to cut you off. You
- 14:24Speaker 1: was just that was nostalgic right there for me.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Yeah, So I basically wanted to recapture that early two
- 14:31Speaker 3: thousands fun that it had, because I mean, there's some
- 14:35Speaker 3: good fantasy shows today, but they just don't hit the
- 14:40Speaker 3: way the early two thousands to do with like Buffy
- 14:44Speaker 3: and Charmed and Supernatural, Like it's just something like extremely
- 14:49Speaker 3: magical that they were able to do back then, not
- 14:51Speaker 3: only creating like these characters that are strong, but also
- 14:56Speaker 3: interwoven human themes and complexity with them, and that is
- 15:01Speaker 3: what alacans are all about.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Oh well, I love that you were inspiring me because
- 15:08Speaker 1: I started working on like a fantasy sci fi type book. Ooh,
- 15:14Speaker 1: it had to be twenty eighteen maybe, and it's called
- 15:19Speaker 1: Childhood Friends, And so you're inspired me to go back
- 15:22Speaker 1: and see it. God, yes, it's all about it's about
- 15:26Speaker 1: the teens. When they turn sixteen, they developed their superpowers.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Because their parents leave and so they're now left to
- 15:34Speaker 1: try to figure out what's going on. And it's about
- 15:37Speaker 1: angels and falling from the sky. I don't want to
- 15:40Speaker 1: tell too much about it, but yeah, I'm excited. My god,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you're going to go back and finish that book.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you got to go back and finish that Yes.
- 15:51Speaker 1: So I want to talk about you know, we just
- 15:53Speaker 1: talked about like the importance of finishing what you start. Like,
- 15:56Speaker 1: talk to someone who may just feel like they're not
- 15:59Speaker 1: good enough for their story, or shouldn't be out there,
- 16:01Speaker 1: or they don't know where to start. What would you
- 16:03Speaker 1: say to them.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I actually been seeing a bunch of TikTok videos and
- 16:07Speaker 3: quotes online about this. You have to finish what you started,
- 16:12Speaker 3: whether if it's writing or music. You cannot think about
- 16:17Speaker 3: the criticism or the outcome. You have to do it
- 16:20Speaker 3: for you because when you're doing it for you, like
- 16:24Speaker 3: you're gonna come up with your best work possible. Because
- 16:27Speaker 3: that's how it was for me. That's why it took
- 16:29Speaker 3: so long for me to like finish Alegance, because I
- 16:31Speaker 3: was always worried about, like, oh, with the readers, like this,
- 16:34Speaker 3: will they not understand this? But I have to write
- 16:37Speaker 3: this book for me before having anyone else's eyes look
- 16:42Speaker 3: at it. So to anybody out there listening, finish what
- 16:46Speaker 3: you start, but finish for you, like worry about like
- 16:49Speaker 3: the outcome later, but you have to finish it for you,
- 16:53Speaker 3: and you have to be proud for that final product
- 16:56Speaker 3: because regardless of what happens, that's the legacy you're leaving behind.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Absolutely, and you have to make sure. You have to
- 17:02Speaker 1: understand that not everybody's going to support you, not everybody
- 17:06Speaker 1: like what you have to, you know, say, not everybody's
- 17:09Speaker 1: gonna like your book. I had one lady from my
- 17:12Speaker 1: very first book. She said, I love the book, I
- 17:14Speaker 1: just didn't like the ending, so she gave me a
- 17:16Speaker 1: two star review. I thought the world had ended. You
- 17:19Speaker 1: heard me, oh my, and I'm like, wait a minute.
- 17:23Speaker 1: But it was a reality check and it was like
- 17:25Speaker 1: people just don't understand and that those people are not
- 17:29Speaker 1: your people. Your people will come. So keep showing up,
- 17:32Speaker 1: keep doing the work, and like Jalen said, do it
- 17:35Speaker 1: for you, do it for you first and.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Foremost people are so relentless when it comes to discouragement.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Like long story short, I had a teacher in high
- 17:45Speaker 3: school who told me I would never publish a book,
- 17:48Speaker 3: And I published my first book when I was a
- 17:50Speaker 3: junior in high school. I was around people in college
- 17:53Speaker 3: who told me that I would never get sober. I'm two.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Your sober now me is if I when I say
- 18:02Speaker 3: I'm gonna do something, I will do it regardless of
- 18:06Speaker 3: how long that it takes me. So that will power.
- 18:09Speaker 3: That's a muscle regards like I don't care if, like
- 18:13Speaker 3: if you're ripped or not. That's a muscle up here.
- 18:16Speaker 3: And that's that's something that those people who relentlessly put
- 18:19Speaker 3: you down wish that they had.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Oh it's projection. A lot of people they project stuff
- 18:25Speaker 1: onto you because that's how they feel about themselves. And
- 18:28Speaker 1: a lot of people see the pretendularly you and they
- 18:31Speaker 1: don't want you to tap into that. They don't want
- 18:33Speaker 1: you to see it because they know that it's something special.
- 18:36Speaker 1: So anyone who is listening, stop the negative self talk
- 18:40Speaker 1: first and foremost, and get away from those people that
- 18:43Speaker 1: are dream killers. Because if they don't have what it
- 18:46Speaker 1: takes to make their dreams come true, guess what's gonna happen.
- 18:50Speaker 1: They're gonna try to deter you from making your dreams
- 18:53Speaker 1: come true. For fear that you're gonna get better than them,
- 18:56Speaker 1: You're gonna leave them behind? Are you not gonna be
- 18:58Speaker 1: that crutch that they're used to? So at the end
- 19:02Speaker 1: of the day, take a deep breath and keep pushing
- 19:07Speaker 1: because you are here for a reason. That gift that
- 19:10Speaker 1: God has made room for you is gonna continue to
- 19:13Speaker 1: make room for you. So keep walking, keep growing, keep creating,
- 19:18Speaker 1: and just keep believing. As long as you do that
- 19:20Speaker 1: you will be. You will go as far as you
- 19:23Speaker 1: can think or you could dream, or you believe, you
- 19:26Speaker 1: will go there.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Absolutely. It's amazing that you bring up God into it,
- 19:31Speaker 3: because I'm gonna bring up like this little, short, little
- 19:34Speaker 3: short story that happened to me in my final semester,
- 19:38Speaker 3: right when I was like getting sober from like from
- 19:41Speaker 3: my alcoholism. One like, I was around like a group
- 19:45Speaker 3: of people that were not at my favor, and it
- 19:50Speaker 3: took one day when I literally, I believe Tuesday. I
- 19:52Speaker 3: still think it was God's voice to Lily told me
- 19:54Speaker 3: to leave these people. I didn't question it, I obeyed,
- 20:00Speaker 3: and ever since then, I feel like that's among many
- 20:03Speaker 3: great things God has done for me. But God whispering
- 20:07Speaker 3: that voice in my hood to tell me to leave
- 20:09Speaker 3: that place had to be one of the best things
- 20:12Speaker 3: to ever do, to ever do for me, because when
- 20:15Speaker 3: you leave, like a person or a group of people,
- 20:19Speaker 3: not only a window, but a door opens to you.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Like literally, when you turn your back, the door opens.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Like I'm not making this up.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Absolutely you have to be you have to be obedient,
- 20:30Speaker 1: and you also have to have that discernment to know
- 20:33Speaker 1: that the voice that you're hearing is God and not
- 20:36Speaker 1: the end. Because that that happens, it has happened to
- 20:40Speaker 1: me and me too. I thank God that I'm able
- 20:44Speaker 1: to sit here and talk about it without getting teary
- 20:46Speaker 1: eyed are emotional about it because being in a dark
- 20:49Speaker 1: place once upon a time, I felt like hell to
- 20:52Speaker 1: claw myself out of that dark place. And I'm not
- 20:55Speaker 1: about anyone anyone take me back to that, you know,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I just I'm not. I just can't and I don't
- 21:05Speaker 1: care if it's friend, family, whatever, whoever. It just can't happen.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Like God has been too good to me. And I
- 21:12Speaker 1: can talk about God all day long because I love
- 21:14Speaker 1: him so much. And yes, and let's talk about the
- 21:19Speaker 1: mindset though, because a as a certified mindset coach. That
- 21:22Speaker 1: is something that I am passionate about. You have to
- 21:25Speaker 1: believe or to won't make that decision to actually do
- 21:30Speaker 1: it and bring it to fruition. So talk about the
- 21:34Speaker 1: importance of your mindset so that you can get away
- 21:37Speaker 1: from that scarcity mindset to a mindset of prosperity in
- 21:41Speaker 1: a bundance.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So two years ago, summer twenty twenty three, I tell
- 21:48Speaker 3: people at my signings, I tell people in AA I
- 21:52Speaker 3: consider that the most devastating time but also the most
- 21:56Speaker 3: life changing time of my life because there was just
- 21:59Speaker 3: so much much that God was revealing to me. So
- 22:03Speaker 3: there's this quote that always passes around on Facebook and
- 22:06Speaker 3: I always get chills, like every time I look at it.
- 22:08Speaker 3: But it says, if God removes people from your life,
- 22:14Speaker 3: it means that he was present in a room and
- 22:17Speaker 3: heard things that you didn't and wasn't present for It's
- 22:22Speaker 3: something it says something like that, and I get chills
- 22:24Speaker 3: about it every single time because that was so true
- 22:29Speaker 3: for my case, because I would have people, because I
- 22:31Speaker 3: was around people who would act like they loved me
- 22:35Speaker 3: to my face. But what's plotting my demise when I
- 22:39Speaker 3: wasn't around? Because the thing is like that last semester.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I don't think I ever told you this, but I
- 22:46Speaker 3: put on my first play at McNeice. I told myself,
- 22:49Speaker 3: like when I got sober, I'm like, this is a
- 22:52Speaker 3: message that I need to share with people, Like I
- 22:55Speaker 3: just can't sit on this. So I put on a
- 22:58Speaker 3: play and they told me that no one was going
- 23:00Speaker 3: to go see my play, and that MacNeice all the
- 23:03Speaker 3: seats were filled. It wasn't even about people showing up
- 23:07Speaker 3: for me, but it was about people showing up for
- 23:10Speaker 3: the message because like what I go through, what many
- 23:13Speaker 3: go through, like it is very common, especially on a
- 23:17Speaker 3: college campus.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely, well I'm glad that you did that.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I wish I would have been there to support you.
- 23:24Speaker 1: When you're walking in purpose, you have to know that
- 23:26Speaker 1: it's bigger than you. Always about inspiring somebody else to
- 23:31Speaker 1: become them their best selves. That's what I've You know,
- 23:35Speaker 1: if you're doing anything for the sake of money, you
- 23:38Speaker 1: already messed up, because when you are your purpose, money
- 23:41Speaker 1: will come because God go make sure that he got you,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Otherwise he wouldn't have given to pour into other people.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And so I've lost a lot of people by thinking
- 23:51Speaker 1: this way, and a lot of people don't realize that
- 23:54Speaker 1: I'm a very genuine person. So when they encounter me,
- 23:57Speaker 1: it's almost like, wait a minute, she's too good to
- 23:59Speaker 1: be true, or what does she want? Or I mean,
- 24:03Speaker 1: it's always something, and I just have to tell people
- 24:06Speaker 1: I am who I am, I'm who God made me.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I was not always this person, So be glad that
- 24:11Speaker 1: you getting this person and not the person that I
- 24:14Speaker 1: hated looking at that in the mirror, who didn't care
- 24:17Speaker 1: about people's feelings are anything. It was my way or
- 24:21Speaker 1: the highway. And I did not like myself when I
- 24:24Speaker 1: was that way. So I worked on me. I work
- 24:28Speaker 1: on me every day. It is a daily process that
- 24:31Speaker 1: you have to go through in order to become better.
- 24:34Speaker 1: When you go through a healing journey, and I know
- 24:37Speaker 1: that you notice, and we didn't talked about this before. Absolutely,
- 24:40Speaker 1: you see life through a different lens. You hit you off,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you just roll off your back. Now what the things
- 24:48Speaker 1: that you used to worry about are take on because
- 24:52Speaker 1: sometimes we take on other people's problems that they never
- 24:54Speaker 1: asked us to take on. Absolutely, I found myself trying
- 24:58Speaker 1: to fix everybody else's problems, realizing that I was covering
- 25:01Speaker 1: up being broken on the inside. So that was like
- 25:05Speaker 1: if it don't if if you ask for my advice
- 25:08Speaker 1: and I give it to you, you don't take it,
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'm washing my hands with it and to do that
- 25:14Speaker 1: with me. So I'm just learning how to mind my business,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know, just learn how to mind my business. And
- 25:20Speaker 1: I am enjoying the ride. I get to talk and
- 25:23Speaker 1: meet to people like yourself. Have you on the podcast,
- 25:26Speaker 1: you know? And I'm just I'm just excited about life
- 25:30Speaker 1: and where God is taking me as well as taking you.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And I'm so again I just can't say how proud
- 25:36Speaker 1: I am enough of you, because I am so Besides
- 25:40Speaker 1: everything that you got coming up, how how are you
- 25:44Speaker 1: like spending your time before you get back into the
- 25:46Speaker 1: hustle and bustle or things beside the Ecoin therapy? What
- 25:50Speaker 1: do you do to just relax and enjoy life?
- 25:56Speaker 3: Well, I think you can relate. I think you can
- 25:58Speaker 3: relate to this. But when do us writers actually relax?
- 26:03Speaker 3: When we finish one thing, we go into the next.
- 26:06Speaker 3: So I guess my definition of relaxation right now would
- 26:10Speaker 3: be working on the sequel Alicans fantasy book. This will
- 26:16Speaker 3: be my eighth book. But that's all. I'm not planned
- 26:22Speaker 3: like right now, I can't share too much. But that's
- 26:27Speaker 3: that's pretty much it as a right now. But even that,
- 26:31Speaker 3: that's that. I'm just blessed to still be able to
- 26:34Speaker 3: be busy and also be busy in a positive manner.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Absolutely. And then when you when you are operating into
- 26:42Speaker 1: things that you love, you don't see it as work.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I don't, not at all.
- 26:47Speaker 1: It's like just another day, right, It's another day, and
- 26:50Speaker 1: this is what I'm doing. Yes, When do you sleep?
- 26:53Speaker 1: When I go to sleep, I sleep.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Oh yeah. One thing about dream chasing, I tell people,
- 26:58Speaker 3: if you're chasing any dream, prepare to lose sleep, Like
- 27:05Speaker 3: I just I just gotta be blunted about that. If
- 27:08Speaker 3: you're when your dream, lose a lot of sleep. But
- 27:12Speaker 3: it's worth it, though, no matter how small or how
- 27:15Speaker 3: big the result.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 27:17Speaker 1: But see, I'm old, I'm old, I'm older now. I
- 27:20Speaker 1: am older now. So I get my sleep. I love sleep.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I go to bed early, and I'm not apologizing for it.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Whenever I feel like I need to go and rest,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I allow myself to rest because my mind I don't
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's constantly going. I don't turn it off. Absolutely, I
- 27:39Speaker 1: cannot turn off, and so some nights it's hard for
- 27:41Speaker 1: me to sleep. Some nights I don't get any sleep,
- 27:43Speaker 1: But some nights I like ten hours of sleep because
- 27:45Speaker 1: I'm going to bed by eight o'clock. Good night, right,
- 27:51Speaker 1: all right? So tell the people how they can connect
- 27:53Speaker 1: with you. How can they get I Talk to Horses
- 27:56Speaker 1: and your other books? How they how can they follow
- 27:59Speaker 1: you so they can find out all the information about
- 28:02Speaker 1: your upcoming album and the upcoming fantasy book.
- 28:06Speaker 3: So my Instagram and TikTok Candle is the exact same
- 28:09Speaker 3: stallion of stories. I have my own author website now
- 28:12Speaker 3: that is titled Jalenjmartin dot com. And if reading when,

- 28:51Speaker 1: So before we get off, are there any words of encouragement,
- 28:55Speaker 1: of parting, words of inspiration that you would like to
- 28:58Speaker 1: share with the listeners.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Don't be afraid of hard work. There's gonna be there's
- 29:03Speaker 3: I've had many days like recently where it just feels
- 29:05Speaker 3: like very hard. Like when it comes to sacrifices, there
- 29:11Speaker 3: is no limit. God will have you sacrifice as much
- 29:15Speaker 3: as He needs you to in order to get to
- 29:17Speaker 3: His plan, not your plan, his plan. So if you
- 29:21Speaker 3: just feel like, oh, I'm just sacrificing too much, trust me,
- 29:24Speaker 3: you have not sacrificed enough. So my so before I close,
- 29:29Speaker 3: I would just say, don't fear sacrifice. It will be
- 29:32Speaker 3: worth it in the end. Trust me.
