- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. TJ Pittenger
- 0:03Speaker 1: here with Jamie Bradford. Inside the game, Cox. We've also
- 0:08Speaker 1: got a huge matchup this weekend, one in which South
- 0:11Speaker 1: Carolina is a slight favorite despite Tennessee knocking off the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Crimson Tide. We are presented by PrizePix, all new users there.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Play $ 5, get $ 150 in lineups instantly if you use
- 0:21Speaker 1: code HMA. Jamie, did the Vegas line surprise you when
- 0:24Speaker 1: it first came out? Or is that just the volatility
- 0:27Speaker 1: of the SEC on a week-to-week basis and Vegas trying
- 0:29Speaker 1: to get out in front of it?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, it actually– South Carolina was actually
- 0:34Speaker 2: a two-and-a-half point dog yesterday afternoon when the initial line
- 0:37Speaker 2: came out. But by last night, it had flipped. And
- 0:40Speaker 2: now they're the two– yeah, they're the two-and-a-half point favorites. No,
- 0:44Speaker 2: it didn't surprise me because– I think that when you
- 0:49Speaker 2: look at college football and certainly when you look at
- 0:52Speaker 2: the SEC right now, it's really, we need to remove
- 0:56Speaker 2: these titles and tags that we've long kind of referenced
- 1:00Speaker 2: all these programs by and remember that each week is
- 1:03Speaker 2: really a matchup. It's, it's just, it's who has a
- 1:06Speaker 2: good matchup and who doesn't have a good matchup. And,
- 1:10Speaker 2: you know, and so, you know, when I, look at
- 1:13Speaker 2: these programs playing this weekend, I think that the things
- 1:17Speaker 2: that South Carolina does pretty well matches up with Tennessee
- 1:21Speaker 2: and vice versa. Tennessee does a lot of things that
- 1:24Speaker 2: matches up well to South Carolina that they should be
- 1:28Speaker 2: successful with. So, you know, it's kind of a split.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And I think if it was in Neyland, you know,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I think Tennessee probably would have opened as like a
- 1:36Speaker 2: three-and-a-half or a four-point favorite or something like that. But, yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 2: it's about where I probably thought it would be.
- 1:44Speaker 1: What coming out of the bi-week is as any Florida
- 1:48Speaker 1: was the last game. And obviously South Carolina shocked everybody,
- 1:51Speaker 1: including the Gators by going out and really dominating that
- 1:54Speaker 1: game for large portions of it. Then you get to
- 1:56Speaker 1: go into a bi-week. So you get to then work
- 1:59Speaker 1: on the things that need to be cleaned up even more.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Just talk to me about the bi-week, what Shane has
- 2:06Speaker 1: talked about, where you think this team has maybe gotten better,
- 2:10Speaker 1: what they needed to work on there. Just kind of
- 2:13Speaker 1: maybe a big picture before we get into the actual game.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Well, it was an interesting time for the bye week
- 2:18Speaker 2: because there were some things that you would like to
- 2:21Speaker 2: see them continue to play with. You know, for instance,
- 2:24Speaker 2: Lenore Sellers played likely the best game overall game of
- 2:28Speaker 2: his collegiate career when you lump everything in as far
- 2:31Speaker 2: as throwing the football, how accurate he was, a lot
- 2:35Speaker 2: of the decision making that he was making, his confidence
- 2:39Speaker 2: in this offense just really clicking around him. So, you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: when you when you go out there and your quarterback
- 2:44Speaker 2: plays like that, you go, man, we don't want to
- 2:46Speaker 2: sit around for two weeks. Let's get back out there
- 2:47Speaker 2: and play. But then the other side of it, too,
- 2:50Speaker 2: is that there were guys who are banged up that
- 2:53Speaker 2: they needed to to sit down and let's try to
- 2:56Speaker 2: get them healthy and make a run here in the
- 2:58Speaker 2: back half, specifically on the defensive line, for instance, and
- 3:02Speaker 2: other guys just have nicks and bumps and bruises that
- 3:04Speaker 2: they were kind of playing through. So that was a
- 3:06Speaker 2: good thing to be able to get them some help. But,
- 3:09Speaker 2: you know, When you go back to that Florida game,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I think the one thing that really stands out is
- 3:14Speaker 2: actually kind of simple, if you think about it. South
- 3:16Speaker 2: Carolina stars were stars, TJ. They finally went out and
- 3:20Speaker 2: had their stars for the large majority of the game
- 3:24Speaker 2: play like stars. Lenoris played like a superstar. He was
- 3:28Speaker 2: the National Player of the Week with the Davey O'Brien
- 3:32Speaker 2: Foundation and someone else. He won two or three of them.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Nick Harburg Dropped a couple of passes, but he also
- 3:40Speaker 2: caught quite a few pretty good ones. He kind of
- 3:43Speaker 2: slid into one on the sideline. He caught one in
- 3:45Speaker 2: the end zone. And he's had some drop issues this year,
- 3:48Speaker 2: so it was good to see him come around. And
- 3:52Speaker 2: Dylan Stewart played the best game that he's played all
- 3:54Speaker 2: year in 29 snaps and basically affected every play that
- 4:00Speaker 2: he was in on, whether it landed in the stat
- 4:02Speaker 2: sheet or not. I mean, the pick that was thrown
- 4:04Speaker 2: to Vakari Swain, who's another one of the stars, The
- 4:07Speaker 2: coverage was perfect, but the throw was kind of rushed
- 4:11Speaker 2: because Dylan Stewart was, I don't know, about two feet
- 4:14Speaker 2: away from taking Aaron Filo into the next week with him. So,
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know, you had the Stars show up and do
- 4:22Speaker 2: the things that Stars are supposed to do to win games. And,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you know, I think matchup-wise, you know, that was a
- 4:30Speaker 2: pretty good matchup. really, for South Carolina, but I didn't
- 4:33Speaker 2: pick them to win the game. I actually picked them
- 4:34Speaker 2: to lose because I thought it would be closer. I
- 4:37Speaker 2: think a lot of people were emotionally looking at that
- 4:39Speaker 2: game going, well, this team just doesn't have it, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: they're going to get blown out on the road. I
- 4:43Speaker 2: didn't see it that way. Shane Beamer's never lost the
- 4:45Speaker 2: locker room. Actually, the locker room's gotten stronger with all
- 4:48Speaker 2: the heat and pressure that's been on him, so credit
- 4:51Speaker 2: to Coach Beamer for creating a culture like that, but
- 4:54Speaker 2: I actually looked at the matchup and thought, you know,
- 4:56Speaker 2: this game should probably be pretty close, but South Carolina
- 4:59Speaker 2: has just had brutal communication and busts in the secondary. And,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know, they haven't created any turnovers. I mean, they, they,
- 5:08Speaker 2: they couldn't force a turnover to save their life. So
- 5:10Speaker 2: those two things, if you don't do that, you can't
- 5:12Speaker 2: win on the road. Well, the secondary, they had one
- 5:15Speaker 2: bust early and then it got tight from there. And
- 5:18Speaker 2: a lot of that was the pressure up front. And
- 5:20Speaker 2: then they, you know, they, they turned Florida over three times,
- 5:22Speaker 2: not to mention they turned them over on downs and
- 5:25Speaker 2: picked one off on a two point conversion in the
- 5:27Speaker 2: end zone. So They did all that, and then they
- 5:29Speaker 2: turned around on offense and played complimentary football and got
- 5:31Speaker 2: that third quarter issue solved where they had been outscored. TJ,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I don't know if you knew this. Going into the
- 5:36Speaker 2: Florida game, they had been outscored in the third quarter
- 5:38Speaker 2: in SEC play 31-0. I mean, it was pretty embarrassing.
- 5:42Speaker 2: And then they turned around and outscored the Gators 14-3
- 5:45Speaker 2: and basically put that thing to bed. So, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: I think that they like where they are. And, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 2: certainly Tennessee is finding ways to win games. Credit to them.
- 5:54Speaker 2: It's not a typical hype-o. football team where they're just
- 5:57Speaker 2: going to outscore you and hang 40 plus on the board.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And so I think that the matchup this weekend is
- 6:02Speaker 2: going to be pretty cool.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I think what's interesting about the matchup is again, this
- 6:09Speaker 1: sellers offense and, and what South Carolina can certainly do
- 6:14Speaker 1: if their stars play like stars goes up against, is it,
- 6:18Speaker 1: is it fair to call Tennessee the best defense in
- 6:21Speaker 1: the sec right now? Might be like, I just, I mean,
- 6:24Speaker 1: at worst top three, Like tech Texas playing at their
- 6:28Speaker 1: best is way up there. They certainly didn't play at
- 6:31Speaker 1: their best on Saturday against Florida. And now Simmons is
- 6:35Speaker 1: out for three to four weeks. LSU is a different
- 6:39Speaker 1: defense at home and on the road. It's not Bama.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Georgia would still be up there despite their, their troubles
- 6:46Speaker 1: against Auburn. They also had four turnovers in that game
- 6:49Speaker 1: or three turnovers in that game.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Right?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Like, so that are three or four, right? So like,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, how much you blame it on the defense.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It's not Florida. It's Ole Miss's defense looked really good.
- 6:59Speaker 1: They they'd be up there, but Tennessee, yeah, like top
- 7:01Speaker 1: two or three. And the way that they went out
- 7:04Speaker 1: on Saturday and just shut down an Alabama offense that
- 7:07Speaker 1: I think everybody would say like, yeah, that's one of
- 7:10Speaker 1: the better offenses. Keelan's playing some of the best football
- 7:12Speaker 1: at quarterback. And that to me is so interesting. Obviously
- 7:16Speaker 1: I would like South Carolina's defense to probably be able
- 7:19Speaker 1: to hold Tennessee down just by virtue of, of, Tennessee
- 7:23Speaker 1: being pretty one-dimensional with a young guy back there playing
- 7:26Speaker 1: at quarterback. No disrespect to Bishop, who I think is, again,
- 7:30Speaker 1: one of the best running backs in the SEC as well.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But thoughts on South Carolina being able to score and
- 7:36Speaker 1: score consistently against a really good defense in this conference?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a great question, and it's a key point
- 7:44Speaker 2: in the ballgame. Tennessee gives up about 15 points per
- 7:47Speaker 2: game to SEC opponents, and the most they've allowed is 20,
- 7:50Speaker 2: and that 20-17 loss against Texas, you know, South Carolina's
- 7:55Speaker 2: offense is pretty good, which is remarkable, the fact that
- 7:59Speaker 2: they've been able to turn this thing around in less
- 8:01Speaker 2: than a year under Kendall Bryles. And now him and
- 8:04Speaker 2: Lenore Sellers, if you go back and look at the
- 8:06Speaker 2: last six quarters, they're very much more so on the
- 8:09Speaker 2: same page. Last game, you know, Carolina offensively on the
- 8:14Speaker 2: ground this year has been great. I mean, they were
- 8:17Speaker 2: the top rushing team in the league going into the
- 8:20Speaker 2: Florida game, and Florida was number two. And that wasn't
- 8:23Speaker 2: just because they played Kent State and Towson to start
- 8:25Speaker 2: the season. They were the top Russian team in the
- 8:27Speaker 2: league versus league opponents as well going into that game. So,
- 8:29Speaker 2: I mean, it was– you know, but they didn't run
- 8:32Speaker 2: it very much, I should say. I mean, they certainly
- 8:35Speaker 2: attempted to. I think they probably could have busted a
- 8:38Speaker 2: few more. But, again, Sellers was in a groove. And so,
- 8:42Speaker 2: you know, Kendall just kind of kept feeding him. It
- 8:44Speaker 2: was like, look, man, if you're throwing it like this,
- 8:46Speaker 2: we're going to let you keep throwing it. They never
- 8:48Speaker 2: felt like he was putting the ball in harm's way,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and it worked out. I mean, he threw some dimes.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So– Tennessee's pretty good at that. They're pretty good at
- 8:55Speaker 2: slowing down the run game and kind of forcing you
- 8:58Speaker 2: into being one-dimensional. I think the key here is that
- 9:02Speaker 2: the Vols haven't seen an offense like this on the road.
- 9:06Speaker 2: They did go to Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech's offense isn't
- 9:08Speaker 2: South Carolina's. They went to Arkansas. That's not South Carolina's either.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Alabama clearly has a very, very good offense, and Ryan
- 9:18Speaker 2: Coleman-Williams didn't play in the ballgame How much did that
- 9:21Speaker 2: affect things? I don't know. It's hard for me to
- 9:24Speaker 2: look at Ryan Coleman-Williams being out and go, well, because
- 9:28Speaker 2: he was out, they scored 30-plus points less than what
- 9:30Speaker 2: they would usually score. I just can't go that far.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I don't think that Ryan, as good as he is,
- 9:36Speaker 2: makes up for three or four scores per game. So
- 9:39Speaker 2: it's a real Tennessee defense under Coach Knowles, and they're
- 9:43Speaker 2: very good on the defensive line. So if you're South
- 9:47Speaker 2: Carolina defense, The ticket there is Lenora Sellers. They know
- 9:51Speaker 2: that Matt Fuller and Jabri Coleman are one and two.
- 9:54Speaker 2: They're going to get their carries. But Lenora Sellers' threat
- 9:57Speaker 2: to run the football, like that's going to be a
- 10:00Speaker 2: key to this thing and how Tennessee chooses to defend that.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And with Donovan Murph kind of coming on at wide receiver,
- 10:06Speaker 2: Mo Brown coming on at tight end, it's starting to
- 10:08Speaker 2: give Lenora Sellers a couple of extra options that he
- 10:11Speaker 2: can truly trust to catch the football versus where he
- 10:14Speaker 2: was just a couple of weeks ago. So, you know,
- 10:17Speaker 2: I think that Carolina is probably going to have to
- 10:19Speaker 2: be committed to the ground game to get themselves into
- 10:22Speaker 2: good third down positions to be able to convert. They
- 10:24Speaker 2: were excellent at converting against Florida, but a lot of
- 10:27Speaker 2: those were third and longs, too, and Florida's secondary is
- 10:29Speaker 2: very suspect. That's not the case with Tennessee. You can't
- 10:33Speaker 2: be in third and long all game and expect to
- 10:35Speaker 2: just convert those things, so they're probably going to have
- 10:37Speaker 2: to be pretty committed to it, but I also do
- 10:40Speaker 2: believe that there's going to be great balance with Lenora
- 10:43Speaker 2: Sellers in throwing the football as well. And if that's
- 10:46Speaker 2: the case, that's probably going to help loosen that thing
- 10:49Speaker 2: up a little bit for the Gamecocks. But, you know,
- 10:52Speaker 2: both these teams run the football very well. Deshaun Bishop's elite. So,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I mean, I think, you know, whoever can really, really
- 10:57Speaker 2: run it well and not turn it over probably is
- 10:59Speaker 2: going to have a pretty good chance to win this sucker.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Just before we go on, I'm going to give some
- 11:03Speaker 1: love to Alumni Hall. Make sure you are shopping in
- 11:05Speaker 1: Alumni Hall. Use our code CFA15. That'll get you 15%
- 11:09Speaker 1: off both online or in person, in store. Works for
- 11:14Speaker 1: any team. that alumni hall supports. That's both the ones
- 11:17Speaker 1: in this matchup today. Make sure that you're using our
- 11:20Speaker 1: code CFA 15. Doesn't sign you up for anything, not
- 11:22Speaker 1: a subscription. I'm going to bill you monthly. Just save
- 11:25Speaker 1: money on the gear you were going to buy. Anyway,
- 11:26Speaker 1: if you're going to the game, if you're getting ready
- 11:28Speaker 1: for the game, make sure you're shopping alumni hall using
- 11:31Speaker 1: our code CFA 15, say 15%. That's all you got
- 11:34Speaker 1: to do.
- 11:34Speaker 2: All right.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Back to the interview held Florida to 120 yards rushing. Um,
- 11:39Speaker 1: that's what I was going to go to next is,
- 11:41Speaker 1: is the run game.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Um, yeah.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I like Tennessee's offensive line a lot more than I
- 11:46Speaker 1: like Florida's. And so I would, I mean, you, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: what's coming. If you're the South Carolina defense, I don't
- 11:53Speaker 1: know that it, I mean, certainly they will game plan,
- 11:55Speaker 1: but I don't think it takes a whole lot of
- 11:56Speaker 1: like figuring out like, whereas, you know, so I was
- 11:59Speaker 1: down in Miami this weekend and it's pick your poison
- 12:03Speaker 1: with that offense. Well, Tennessee's, you know, it's a healthy
- 12:05Speaker 1: dose of Bishop and Morris and those guys like going
- 12:08Speaker 1: to be running down your throat or at least attempting
- 12:10Speaker 1: to all day South Carolina against the run. you know, obviously,
- 12:15Speaker 1: you know, I think if you're, if you're Beamer and you,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and that staff and you say like, Hey, if George
- 12:20Speaker 1: McIntyre comes out and just beats us, then he just
- 12:22Speaker 1: beats us. Like if that's what, but like all the
- 12:24Speaker 1: attention has to be on slowing down that ground game.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And again, if this redshirt freshman comes out and throws
- 12:29Speaker 1: for 300, so be it, you know, like it just
- 12:33Speaker 1: sometimes players make plays and that's how we'll lose, but
- 12:36Speaker 1: it can't be Bishop with three touchdowns and 180 yards.
- 12:39Speaker 3: That is the reason we take an L here.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Carolina's secondary is probably going to be
- 12:46Speaker 2: a lot of the same from that Florida game, which
- 12:48Speaker 2: is keep the ball in front and let's focus on
- 12:52Speaker 2: controlling the run game as best as we can. I
- 12:54Speaker 2: try to stay away from the four-letter word, stop. It's
- 12:58Speaker 2: hard to stop a run game. But if you can
- 13:01Speaker 2: control it and force them to do things that they
- 13:04Speaker 2: don't want to do or they're not better at doing
- 13:06Speaker 2: than running the football, you're going to have a pretty
- 13:08Speaker 2: good chance. And obviously that's what happened down in the
- 13:11Speaker 2: swamp last weekend for South Carolina. But, yeah, I mean, look,
- 13:15Speaker 2: Deshaun Bishop's real. I mean, he's real. The Morris kid,
- 13:18Speaker 2: Dwayne Morris, or how do you say that? It's not Dwayne.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's something like that, but I just call him
- 13:24Speaker 1: Morris just to not mess it up.
- 13:26Speaker 2: He's just going to go, yeah, Morris is fine. They
- 13:30Speaker 2: both average.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Try covering BYU with all those names. That's the fun one.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Telling you what now. Yeah, there's no doubt. Yeah, they
- 13:38Speaker 2: both average, what, six yards a carry. Dylan Stewart is,
- 13:43Speaker 2: I mean, he's not only a difference maker as far
- 13:49Speaker 2: as it, like, when he's on the field, we know
- 13:51Speaker 2: he's elite, okay? But Dylan Stewart is one of the
- 13:55Speaker 2: guys who can bring out the best in the guys
- 13:58Speaker 2: that line up next to him. For instance, Caleb Herring
- 14:01Speaker 2: is the starting edge opposite Stewart. Well, Herring was a
- 14:04Speaker 2: five-star top player in the state in Tennessee, played for
- 14:08Speaker 2: the Vols, transferred here in the offseason. Herring, against the run,
- 14:12Speaker 2: is pretty good. But he's had some issues in getting
- 14:14Speaker 2: to the passer. Well, last week, when Dylan Stewart was
- 14:19Speaker 2: in there, Caleb Herring was getting to the passer. You know,
- 14:21Speaker 2: not getting all the way there, but the pressure was there.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Against the run, he's been pretty good. But, see, Dylan
- 14:26Speaker 2: Stewart requires double, if not triple, attention every time the
- 14:28Speaker 2: ball snaps. It doesn't matter who they put out there.
- 14:32Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what they do with him. There are
- 14:34Speaker 2: very few, if any, who can defend him consistently one-on-one.
- 14:37Speaker 2: You're not just going to hold him for three or
- 14:39Speaker 2: four seconds unless you're actually holding him, which a lot
- 14:42Speaker 2: of teams do. And then South Carolina's interior is very,
- 14:45Speaker 2: very good. Tommy Duragia is the highest-rated pass rusher at
- 14:49Speaker 2: the defensive tackle position in college football this year. He's
- 14:52Speaker 2: very good. Gabe Brown-Lodin, he's been banged up the last
- 14:55Speaker 2: couple of weeks. He's expected to be back this week.
- 14:58Speaker 2: That's big time. Kelby Collins, who transferred in from Alabama,
- 15:01Speaker 2: has been playing very well. You start with those three,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and then you get to the deep freezer, we call him.
- 15:06Speaker 2: He is a true freshman, Noah Clark. Noah Clark might
- 15:10Speaker 2: be the best overall defensive tackle on the team, but
- 15:14Speaker 2: he's just a freshman. And this isn't me being fanboy,
- 15:17Speaker 2: I promise you that. It's watching him progress week to week,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and you watch that snap count keep increasing, and then
- 15:23Speaker 2: you watch him play, and you go, yeah, I can
- 15:25Speaker 2: see why. I mean, it's hard to block this kid.
- 15:27Speaker 2: He's 6'5, 350 pounds. But he doesn't move like that.
- 15:31Speaker 2: He moves like he's more around 305, 310. So, you know,
- 15:34Speaker 2: Carolina is pretty good up front. And Tennessee is going
- 15:39Speaker 2: to have to figure out whether they think that they
- 15:41Speaker 2: can go right at that thing, which is going to
- 15:44Speaker 2: probably hurt them a little bit in the pass game,
- 15:46Speaker 2: or whether they need to try to spread it out
- 15:48Speaker 2: or what they're going to do. I don't know. We're
- 15:50Speaker 2: going to have to figure that out when it gets
- 15:51Speaker 2: to the game on Saturday. But, you know, with McIntyre,
- 15:54Speaker 2: you're right. I mean, look, you know, South Carolina– couldn't
- 15:57Speaker 2: cover a bucket of water for the large majority of
- 15:59Speaker 2: the season downfield, and that cost them in the Mississippi
- 16:02Speaker 2: State game, and it cost them in the Kentucky game.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You take a play, maybe two, but certainly just one
- 16:08Speaker 2: in the Kentucky game away, and this team, instead of
- 16:11Speaker 2: three and three, is sitting here at five and one
- 16:14Speaker 2: and somewhere well inside of the top 20 with the
- 16:17Speaker 2: Vols coming to town this weekend. So, you know, I
- 16:22Speaker 2: think that it's going to be a pretty similar approach
- 16:25Speaker 2: to what you saw against Aaron Filo and the Gators
- 16:28Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago where they're going to try
- 16:31Speaker 2: to let these guys do as much as they can
- 16:33Speaker 2: up front with Stewart being back because you can get
- 16:35Speaker 2: four and five man rushes with him in there and
- 16:38Speaker 2: try to keep everything in front of them and say,
- 16:40Speaker 2: all right, well, we'll dare you to throw it downfield,
- 16:42Speaker 2: but we're not going to let it get over our heads. Yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Look at the last two games for McIntyre had 247
- 16:48Speaker 1: against Arkansas. I know that's not a Not a great team,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but had 197 yards passing and went 21 of 31
- 16:54Speaker 1: for two-thirds of his passes completed against Alabama in that secondary.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So I'm interested to see how Tennessee does play it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Is he getting to a point? Now his first game
- 17:04Speaker 1: against Auburn, he threw the ball 10 times and had
- 17:08Speaker 1: 80 yards.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Is he 86?
- 17:12Speaker 1: Are they getting to a place in Knoxville where where
- 17:15Speaker 1: they are a little more comfortable with him tossing it around.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think that's really kind of interesting because the more
- 17:21Speaker 1: and more confidence that they put into him, it's going
- 17:24Speaker 1: to change the way they're able to play. It may
- 17:27Speaker 1: not just be, Hey, line up and just throw the
- 17:29Speaker 1: ball or run the ball with Bishop every single time.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So I think that the, the way that Hypo approaches
- 17:36Speaker 1: this and really the way again, South Carolina, it's going
- 17:40Speaker 1: to be dependent in this is what we talk about
- 17:41Speaker 1: with complimentary football is it's going to be dependent too
- 17:43Speaker 1: on the way the South Carolina's defense is slowing down
- 17:46Speaker 1: or holding South Carolina's offense. You know, if, if Tennessee
- 17:49Speaker 1: can really slow down sellers and company, then you may
- 17:53Speaker 1: not need to take as many chances with McIntyre. And
- 17:55Speaker 1: it may just be a, an uglier, lower scoring 20
- 17:58Speaker 1: to 13, 20 to 17, 17 to 13 type game
- 18:02Speaker 1: to where, yeah, I'll trust our guys running the ball
- 18:05Speaker 1: and let them, you know, maybe convert in the fourth
- 18:07Speaker 1: quarter and hope that the offensive line can kind of
- 18:09Speaker 1: wear down the defense late. Um, So we'll see, obviously
- 18:14Speaker 1: turnovers play a big factor that certainly played a big
- 18:16Speaker 1: factor for the Alabama Tennessee game this week. But, um,
- 18:19Speaker 1: do you have a kind of a, you know, not sellers,
- 18:22Speaker 1: not Stewart, not Harbor, uh, cause those are maybe too easy, but, uh, uh, uh,
- 18:28Speaker 1: an X factor here, somebody that you could really see
- 18:30Speaker 1: breaking out and having a good game that isn't one
- 18:32Speaker 1: of the top line stars that it's easy to say
- 18:35Speaker 1: sellers and Stewart.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Sure. Yeah. Well, I look, I think it's a group.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I think in South Carolina's linebackers, I mean, they, they
- 18:41Speaker 2: played much better. This is a, it's a very talented
- 18:45Speaker 2: group and they weren't performing well. And you know, it was,
- 18:49Speaker 2: it was, it was little things, man, you know, physically
- 18:52Speaker 2: you look at him, you said, well, that's an sec
- 18:54Speaker 2: linebacking room right there. They're all six 40 and they're
- 18:56Speaker 2: all 240, 250 pounds, Sean Murphy and Justin Okorokwo and
- 19:00Speaker 2: Fred Johnson, kind of the three stars of that group.
- 19:03Speaker 2: That's a, that's a good looking group of kids. I'd
- 19:05Speaker 2: take them anywhere. And let's keep in mind that Okoronkwo
- 19:07Speaker 2: and Murphy were recruited by Nick Saban to play at Alabama.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Nick Saban recruits pretty good linebackers. But that group down
- 19:16Speaker 2: in Gainesville, their eyes were much better. They tackled well.
- 19:20Speaker 2: They took good angles to the football. All these little
- 19:22Speaker 2: things that a lot of people don't really pay attention
- 19:25Speaker 2: to until the results are in and you go back
- 19:27Speaker 2: and you hear people talk about it and you look
- 19:29Speaker 2: at it and you say, yeah, I see what they're
- 19:30Speaker 2: talking about. So it's going to be critical for them
- 19:33Speaker 2: this week. Let's face it, Tennessee... They're going to run
- 19:37Speaker 2: the football. They're going to run it well at times,
- 19:39Speaker 2: and they're going to get to the second level. Where
- 19:41Speaker 2: are these guys? What are they doing? Are they able
- 19:43Speaker 2: to cover things up there? They're not going to throw
- 19:46Speaker 2: it a ton to the flat. Mike Matthews, by the way,
- 19:48Speaker 2: a great looking wide receiver for the Vols so he's
- 19:51Speaker 2: a challenge out there Braylon Staley is a challenge to
- 19:53Speaker 2: cover out there as well and Bakari Swain and Judge
- 19:56Speaker 2: Collier are certainly going to have their their hands full
- 19:59Speaker 2: with that but I think it's South Carolina's linebackers you
- 20:01Speaker 2: know what do they choose to do with them when
- 20:03Speaker 2: they do send pressure do they get there I got
- 20:05Speaker 2: a feeling they will send some George McIntyre, he hasn't
- 20:09Speaker 2: started in an environment on the road like this. No
- 20:12Speaker 2: disrespect to Arkansas. I love Arkansas fans. I think it's
- 20:16Speaker 2: one of the coolest fan bases on the planet, but
- 20:19Speaker 2: that and Williams-Brice Stadium. It's going to be a little
- 20:21Speaker 2: bit different. The last time Tennessee was here, it didn't
- 20:25Speaker 2: go very well for them. Four years ago, 63 points
- 20:28Speaker 2: were up on that board. So And then they accused
- 20:30Speaker 2: Carolina of cheating afterwards. That's a whole nother story.
- 20:33Speaker 3: They looped you guys into the whole Michigan scandal, huh?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody around here was like, what? You know, I
- 20:38Speaker 2: talked to Shane about that one day. He was like,
- 20:40Speaker 2: I don't know how some of these things come about,
- 20:42Speaker 2: but they do, and you got to deal with it.
- 20:44Speaker 2: So I think it's Carolina's linebackers, you know, defensively. I
- 20:48Speaker 2: think that those guys are critical. You know, and I'll
- 20:51Speaker 2: give you, you know, on offense, I'll give you a
- 20:54Speaker 2: little bit of an X factor here, too. You know, again,
- 20:57Speaker 2: Tennessee's defense is, I think, elite. I got a lot
- 21:00Speaker 2: of respect for those kids. They play their rear ends off.
- 21:04Speaker 2: They've held fantastic offenses to nothing, basically. They're carrying this
- 21:09Speaker 2: team while the offense is still kind of trying to
- 21:11Speaker 2: get it figured out. They've put that on their shoulders,
- 21:14Speaker 2: and they've owned it. Like you said earlier, they're going
- 21:17Speaker 2: to game plan. I don't know if they'll stop it,
- 21:19Speaker 2: but they're going to game plan for Matt Fuller, Jabri Coleman,
- 21:23Speaker 2: and Lenore Sellers running the football, and other guys too,
- 21:26Speaker 2: but those are the three main ones for South Carolina.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I think keep an eye on 44 again. You know,
- 21:31Speaker 2: Mo Brown's touches continue to increase. He's kind of an H-back.
- 21:35Speaker 2: They list him as a tight end. I list him
- 21:37Speaker 2: as a demon, D-E-M-O-N, because he plays special teams. He'll tackle.
- 21:44Speaker 2: He knocks you into next week. He's fearless. And he's
- 21:47Speaker 2: just kind of always there, man. Like, you know, third
- 21:50Speaker 2: and six, I don't know. Who can I throw it
- 21:53Speaker 2: to that I know will catch the ball? Oh, there's
- 21:54Speaker 2: Mo Brown. So if you go, like, look at his numbers,
- 21:57Speaker 2: you're like, well, he hasn't really done much. Yeah, well,
- 22:00Speaker 2: go look at his numbers lately, and look at the
- 22:02Speaker 2: little things that he does. Look who's in there pitching
- 22:04Speaker 2: two-point conversions and stuff like that. He's kind of a
- 22:07Speaker 2: wherever I need this guy, he's kind of there type thing.
- 22:11Speaker 2: So I think offensively, I think everybody knows who everybody
- 22:14Speaker 2: is for South Carolina, but he's one who kind of
- 22:16Speaker 2: sneaks under the radar and makes a big play or
- 22:18Speaker 2: two to keep a drive alive and things like that,
- 22:21Speaker 2: and they're going to have to keep drives alive against
- 22:23Speaker 2: Tennessee because they are very, very good.
- 22:26Speaker 3: It's so hard this early in the week to know.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I really I'm interested in this game just because I
- 22:33Speaker 1: think it would it would be so big for both teams.
- 22:35Speaker 1: You look at what Oklahoma has left and you start
- 22:37Speaker 1: to you start to look at a path toward man.
- 22:40Speaker 1: They could really stack up some wins here against some
- 22:42Speaker 1: teams that are maybe not quite what we expected coming
- 22:45Speaker 1: into this season. They've got a chance for a massive
- 22:47Speaker 1: win here this weekend. And obviously have the rivalry at
- 22:51Speaker 1: the very end of the year. And then same thing
- 22:53Speaker 1: for Tennessee. Like I, so I was asked this morning,
- 22:55Speaker 1: who do you trust in the sec? And I was like,
- 22:58Speaker 1: I don't know, man. Like everybody shows vulnerabilities and greatness
- 23:02Speaker 1: from week to week. I was like, I still think
- 23:04Speaker 1: Georgia is really good. I think Ole Miss is good. Tennessee,
- 23:06Speaker 1: if they can go on the road and win here,
- 23:08Speaker 1: like you're starting to have conversations about them. You know,
- 23:13Speaker 1: I don't know, but it would be huge for either program. Again, what,
- 23:17Speaker 1: what these matchups that we talk about, the Tennessee defense,
- 23:19Speaker 1: what they can do against this, against this offense, which
- 23:24Speaker 1: has a lot of talent, what South Carolina's defense can
- 23:28Speaker 1: do against an offense that you kind of know what
- 23:31Speaker 1: they want to get done will be really, really interesting
- 23:34Speaker 1: to me. I have no idea how to pick this thing.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I know you'll pick it later in the week. So
- 23:38Speaker 1: where can people find that? Where can people find all
- 23:41Speaker 1: of your content, everything you'll do throughout the week and,
- 23:44Speaker 1: If you want to make a pick this early.
- 23:46Speaker 3: On a Monday, you can.
- 23:46Speaker 1: If not, I'm not going to hold you to it.
- 23:48Speaker 1: You can hype it for later in the week, but
- 23:51Speaker 1: picking games on a Monday is hard.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd stay away from that, not with availability reports.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Although the things we've heard are trending in the right
- 23:58Speaker 2: direction for South Carolina, but I still want to get
- 24:01Speaker 2: my eyes on it before we start going that far
- 24:04Speaker 2: down the road. I do think it'll be a good game.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I think it'll be close. I think if you're looking
- 24:08Speaker 2: for a fourth quarter game, this is it. And, um,
- 24:11Speaker 2: and I don't think it'll be what it was just
- 24:13Speaker 2: a couple of seasons or four seasons ago, uh, in Columbia. But, um,
- 24:17Speaker 2: you know, for us, there's a lot of ways to
- 24:19Speaker 2: find us. You can go to the website, you know,
- 24:22Speaker 2: the big spur.com or Gamecock central.com. They're the same exact one.
- 24:26Speaker 2: We combined them last year and, um, we can download
- 24:29Speaker 2: our app chief Indian chief, just chief sports. Um, and
- 24:35Speaker 2: you can go to YouTube, go to our inside the Gamecocks, uh,
- 24:38Speaker 2: youtube page and find us there and that'll link you
- 24:41Speaker 2: to all the other properties that we own and things
- 24:44Speaker 2: like that as well so and then on x although
- 24:47Speaker 2: i try to not post on x because i i
- 24:50Speaker 2: could just say i hope everybody has a great day
- 24:52Speaker 2: and somebody will tell me that i need to bridge
- 24:55Speaker 2: um so yeah i try to stay away from that
- 24:57Speaker 2: but i i i think that um i'll i'll say
- 25:00Speaker 2: this too you you know you mentioned who do you
- 25:04Speaker 2: trust in the sec i think the answer who could
- 25:06Speaker 2: you trust the most Georgia, because if they didn't turn
- 25:10Speaker 2: the football over, would they have won the game? I
- 25:13Speaker 2: think they would have. But they did turn the ball
- 25:16Speaker 2: over and credit to Auburn. Besides that, who do you
- 25:20Speaker 2: trust the most? I don't know. It's a coin flip
- 25:22Speaker 2: and it's week to week. And once you go through
- 25:24Speaker 2: a week like that, the SEC just went through this
- 25:27Speaker 2: just upside down, crazy week, everything's bonkers, et cetera, et cetera.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And then you look ahead and you go, oh, man,
- 25:33Speaker 2: there's not really that good of games on the schedule.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I wouldn't buy that for two seconds.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Like Texas Ole Miss is great. LSU Auburn's great.
- 25:41Speaker 2: This is great. Yeah. All of a sudden LSU at
- 25:43Speaker 2: Auburn is a sexy game, you know, Tennessee and South Carolina.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Like I don't think, I don't think A & M
- 25:50Speaker 2: is very good, but I'm not going to be shocked
- 25:52Speaker 2: to look up in the fourth quarter and see a.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Close football game.
- 25:56Speaker 2: You know, Oklahoma and Mississippi state, what's going on down there.
- 25:59Speaker 2: You know, John Mateer has just really kind of fallen
- 26:01Speaker 2: off the table. Like What's the status of Kamario Taylor
- 26:04Speaker 2: and Fluff Bothwell? You know, if those guys are able
- 26:07Speaker 2: to go, the Sooners are three and a half point
- 26:09Speaker 2: favorites in that game right now with Taylor is, hey,
- 26:11Speaker 2: he's all clear and ready to go. Who do you like?
- 26:14Speaker 2: Because I think I like Mississippi State, although Oklahoma's defense
- 26:17Speaker 2: is very, very good. And, you know, Kentucky just is
- 26:20Speaker 2: the shock of the league. They find ways to win,
- 26:24Speaker 2: you know, so that you look at that game and
- 26:25Speaker 2: you'd like to think that's probably the one game that
- 26:27Speaker 2: you would feel comfortable saying, well, I think Kentucky beats Vanderbilt.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And I would agree with that. But Week to week, man,
- 26:32Speaker 2: it's all about matchups. Who's who, who's got what, and
- 26:36Speaker 2: then you kind of go from there. I think it's
- 26:38Speaker 2: going to be another pretty wild weekend in the Southeastern Conference.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Jamie, I appreciate you for hanging out.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Go check out Jamie's work inside the Gamecocks, the Big Spur,
- 26:47Speaker 1: all the places there.

- 26:57Speaker 2: You got it, brother. Appreciate you.
