Transcript
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the High Level Wives Podcast.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm Chelsea Home, your hostess, and we do marriage God's way here.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And I want to ask you a question before we dive in.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: How does an entire nation witness miracles, cross the Jordan on dry ground, watch walls fall, inherit the promised land, and within one generation forget God?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: It's not 10 generations or even three, it's one.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And if it happened to Israel, it can happen to us.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: So today we're going to be talking about one generation away, why we forget God's ways and rewrite his design.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: In Joshua 22, we see that the tribes east of the Jordan built a great altar, and the other tribes on the other side of the Jordan immediately prepared for war.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Which, as I was reading this, I was surprised.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: I'm like, whoa, right to war?
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, why?
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Because they thought Israel had abandoned God.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: They thought that they were building an idol, right, to worship.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And they knew what happened when people mixed worship.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: They knew compromise spreads, and they understood something that we've forgotten, which is worship matters, doctrine matters, and holiness matters.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Then they discovered that it wasn't an altar for sacrifices, it was an altar of remembrance.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: It was a witness, a testimony.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: We belong to the Lord.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And there's a reason why remembrance matters.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: God constantly told Israel to remember, to teach your children, to tell the stories, to write them on your doorpest doorposts, to talk to them when you sit down, when you walk, when you rise, when you lie down, why?
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They were literally supposed to write them on their forehead.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: It's because forgetfulness always precedes rebellion.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, how many times have you talked to your kids and like, well, I didn't remember you said that, right?
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: It's like, well, I did say that, and you knew that I said that, right?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: In Judges 2, right away, right out the gate, another generation arose who did not know the Lord nor the mighty works he had done.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: But if you notice here, they didn't lose God overnight.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Like they literally went from preparing to go to war against their brothers for going off track to in one generation, they stopped remembering him daily.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: So the question is, you know, we the truth is we still build altars today.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So then the question is, what are you building them to?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Are you building altars to your career, politics, fitness, your children, your marriage, your feelings?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Ooh, we got a lot of that going on today.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Your trauma, your independence, because every life builds monuments to something.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: We may not be out in our yard building an actual monument, but we're doing it in our heart, and it is evidenced through our actions.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I believe that many Christian wives know more about Instagram, therapy language, self-care, attachment styles, personality tests than they know about God's holiness, his design, his character, and his commands.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: We've remembered culture while forgetting scripture.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: In Deuteronomy 6, God's strategy was not to teach your kids once, right?
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Tell them one good bedtime story.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: It was literally repeat, repeat, repeat.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Talk about me constantly because whatever is repeated becomes remembered.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Whatever is remembered shapes belief, and whatever is believed shapes our behavior, right?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Out of our heart flows everything.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: So what are we putting in there?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: What do we have on repeat that is being built and that is coming out and how we live our life and how we speak and how we think?
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Let's bring it back to marriage, right?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Let's make the marriage connection here.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Why are Christian marriages struggling?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: They have the same divorce rate as the unbelieving world.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: 50%.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: It's because many of us are trying to build without remembering the designer.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: We've remembered the communication techniques, right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: We've read the books.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: We we we've read about boundaries and date nights and love languages, but we've forgotten holiness and repentance and honor and submission, sacrificial love and fear of the Lord.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: We don't have wisdom in marriage today because we don't know God and we don't know his design for marriage.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: So of course we're struggling, right?
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I've shared this statistic before that doing one thing every day will take that divorce rate from 50% down to like 0.0008%.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: And it's praying together daily as husband and wife, right?
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Because where do we get our wisdom?
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Where who is the source of wisdom?
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Jesus is the source of wisdom.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: He is the word that became flesh and dwelt among us.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: The word is where we get our wisdom.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, here's the hard truth I want to bring home to you is that nobody drifts towards holiness.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I've shared that my dad said, you know, your Christian walk is like being in a boat on a river.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: You're either moving forward or you're flowing backwards, but you're never standing still.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, so nobody accidentally becomes Christ-like.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Nobody wakes up one morning submitted to God.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Drifting always moves us away from Him, never toward Him.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And this is what happens in marriage, too, is because people don't understand God's design.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: They've never been taught, they've never experienced it, they've never witnessed it.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And so they don't know the daily intentional discipline required to grow together.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And so they naturally drift apart, they never naturally drift towards one another.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself, what am I remembering every day?
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: What voice am I rehearsing?
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: What story am I telling myself?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: What is discipling my children?
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: When my kids remember this season, will they remember mom knew every influencer?
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Or mom knew Jesus?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Will they remember mom was always angry at dad?
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Or will they remember mom feared the Lord and she loved dad well?
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Psalm 78.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: God commanded fathers and mothers to tell the next generation his works so that they would set their hope in God and not forget the works of that God, but keep his commandments.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Remembering produces obedience, forgetfulness produces compromise.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I think what is happening today is that you know, we have generations now that experienced mom and dad being different in church versus behind their four walls, and that inconsistency completely obliterated their faith for the faith of the children that was being passed down because they were hearing one thing, being told one thing, but seeing something completely different, and that inconsistency destroyed the faith of these current generations, but not on my watch, my friend.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: And not the Lord is not going to allow that to happen, and that is why I'm here, and that is why I do this marriage podcast.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: That is why I run and lead high-level wife.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: God called me into it, He gave me a testimony for the good and saving of many.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, y'all.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And I will not let you forget.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: I am here to remind you daily that remembering produces obedience.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: You will not forget because forgetfulness produces compromise.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: The greatest threat to your marriage isn't culture, it's not even social media or even feminism, it's forgetting God.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Seek God first, seek his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: God is asking you every day, do I have your full heart?
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Are your eyes on me?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Are you looking to the left or to the right?
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Because when we forget God's holiness, we rewrite his commands.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: When we forget his goodness, we question his design.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: When we forget his faithfulness, y'all, I'm reading in the Old Testament, and all the Israelites just time and time and time again, literally every chapter in Judges starts with, and they did evil in the sight of the Lord.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And I'm just like, Lord, I know that I do that, and you are so faithful and you are so steadfast.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Because what happens when we forget his faithfulness is we take control.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And we've when we forget his authority, we become our own, or our feelings become our authority, or anything else becomes our authority.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: So my challenge for you is to build an altar not of stone, but build rhythms of remembrance.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Open your Bible before you touch your phone.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Pray with your children, pray with your husband.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Talk about God's faithfulness around the dinner table, right?
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: That's going to require some planning and intention and discipline to get everyone sitting around the table to have a meal.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: It doesn't need to be fancy, but do it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Celebrate answered prayers.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: That means you have to intentionally be writing them down so that you can remember them when they're answered.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Tell your testimony often.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Don't hide it.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Tell it often and remember because every flourishing marriage is built by two people who refuse to forget the Lord.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Psalm 78 7 says, then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds, but would keep his commands.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: The generation that forgets God's works will eventually reject God's ways.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: So I will see you on the next episode.
