- 0:41SPEAKER_04: Follow brother.
- 0:42SPEAKER_04: How you feeling?
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Pretty good, man.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: Life's good.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: Life's good.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: Everything's good right now.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Things are rolling, things are popping, and obviously I'm here.
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: Man, I'm excited to have you on board.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: I I've been watching from afar, really celebrating and saluting your work.
- 0:55SPEAKER_05: And so I just threw a message out.
- 0:56SPEAKER_05: Like, man, will you join me for a pie?
- 0:58SPEAKER_05: You was like, absolutely, bro.
- 0:59SPEAKER_05: So I appreciate you, man.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I I watch yourself too, man.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: So it's just kind of, you know, watching you flow, watching you do your thing, yeah, build up.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: And I'm, you know, it's exciting, and I love I love helping other people.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Sure, you know, and I love I love seeing creativity and I love things taking off.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: So, you know, when when everything was brought up, we connected, and I was like, of course.
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: Let's do it.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: I love it, man.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: Well, look, I'm gonna I'm gonna jump in the Obio.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: This is let's go.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: This is what the streets are saying about that great.
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: Come on, everybody said, This is what the streets are saying.
- 1:29SPEAKER_05: It says, today we're sitting down with a man who's literally becoming the radio from Northwest Arkansas.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: Frisco Kid is a comedian, host, and community spark plug who moved from the fast-paced energy of Los Angeles to the Ozarks and decided to help build a comedy scene from the ground up.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: Frisco's journey is one of pure hustle and radical empathy.
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: Whether he's opening for major headliners, hosting packed out shows at the Music Depot, or going viral on TikTok, his mission is simple.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: Use a smile to break down every door.
- 1:56SPEAKER_05: He's been open about his upbringing in sub-neighborhoods and the challenges of the real world, but he uses those hurdles as fuel to make sure nobody in his audience feels left out.
- 2:05SPEAKER_05: He's an artist who believes that a world time joke can solve almost any problem.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: And he's proven that you don't need a Hollywood stage to build that world-class impact.
- 2:12SPEAKER_05: You just need a mic and a heart for people.
- 2:14SPEAKER_05: Frisco Kid, welcome to Story Scaler.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: That was beautiful, man.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: Can I can I get that?
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: I don't need a cop.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Beautiful, man.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: That was awesome, but I really appreciate that.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bro.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: I do appreciate that.
- 2:24SPEAKER_05: When you hear a bio like that, what sticks out to you?
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: It's just not a lot of people touching it, so I really appreciate it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I really appreciate that.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: And and it just that right there, it already it adds more fuel of what what I'm doing to make to keep not not gonna I mean to push.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: That right there, it just I don't know, it got me a little emotional.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Like, man, that's that was true, man.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: I'm glad you did your homework on that, bro.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: I already say that.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: I mean, first of all, I'm honored to to have you, and and that's the least I could do.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: And like you said, it is true.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: And that's an abbreviated bio.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: I could have gone on, but that is what you do, that is what you put out.
- 3:01SPEAKER_05: And me being somebody that doesn't even know you super closely and personally, I see the light and the joy that you try to give off.
- 3:08SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 3:09SPEAKER_05: And so where does that come from?
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: Man, I think it just comes from life.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: You know, I've I've I've lived in the hard times and I've had I've had really bad times, and I learned from it, and the only thing that I could think of that got me through it is is having good people around.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: And I had to learn how to how to accept those because growing up where I grew up, it's kind of hard for a man to ask for help.
- 3:36SPEAKER_05: Take us there, like take take us to the upbrayer.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Uh just being brought up in a Mexican household in the machismo, prudono that means that's kind of a man.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: And you're seen as a man ever since you're a kid, they treat you like a man.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: That's just any anywhere in in our culture that's that's so normal.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: And it's always brought up that only the weak ask for help.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: So coming up and I'm a self-made man, I've done it by myself.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Like nine, 10 years old, you already think like that.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and it's like the hustle is brought up like that.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Like we're don't, if you don't eat, you're not gonna eat.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: You know, it's just plain and simple.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: You know, just that's just how it was.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: And yeah, I mean, I couldn't change it and I wouldn't because that made me appreciate a lot of things, and it made me help.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: It it just makes me want to help other people.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, I always try to help uh I d I'm around my own podcast and we did uh an issue on mental health, real men's mental health, and everybody everybody that was on it had the same thing to say.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that growing up it was frowned upon for you to ask for help and figuring it out, sure, and taking on the weight on the world by yourself.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: So, yeah.
- 4:45SPEAKER_05: Man, you getting just real stuff, bro.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: So, so you you're coming uh from California?
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: Okay, so you're in California, you know, like you said, Mexican household, and you you already have this this mentality of like I gotta get it on my own.
- 4:59SPEAKER_05: I can't ask for help.
- 5:00SPEAKER_05: What kind of kid were you?
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Man, I I I like I was into sports and I was just into I don't know, there's a lot of affiliation out there you can get involved with.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that never attracted me.
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: That never attracted me.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: That was nothing that I I want to get into or it's cause it's so easy out there, not having a male figure.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and people wanting to accept you, it always seems like it's the easy route.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Or not easy route, but just find acceptance as finding single mall?
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, single.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Oh guy.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: And f trying to find acceptance in the male-dominant area.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: I was so those were always the ease those were always the route that were brought up to.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: So coming up, that was that was either one way, but that that never attracted me.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: Why do you think that is?
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Because I like to smile, man.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: I like to I like to joke around too much, and in those scenarios, it it I would always see people be so serious and so the mean mug, you know the Yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: And I I'm I was never that.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: The Tub That stuff just didn't resonate with you.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it just I never my intent was never I I was never physically how do I say it?
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: I always liked the fun times.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: And I I always wanted to be in the in the mixture of people having a good time.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: And that to me didn't look like a good time.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: That looked like, man, there wasn't gotta be serious all the time, there's trying to intimidate people, you know, and just yeah, what it is, you know?
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: And I was never that I was never that serious.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: And I was always I'm always I always like to joke around and make friends.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: And the thing that did get to me was when they told me that this part of the neighborhood could didn't get along with this side of the neighborhood.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: And I have friends on both sides, and I was like, man, I don't want to pick and choose.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: But that's a it's a whole world out there.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: It's a little different out there.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: But like I said, that really never for me to to find separations and people, that was never my thing.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: And it ever since I was little, I always wanted to be part of the team.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: I never wanted to divide a team or let's call it, you know.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: I've always wanted people to be together.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: That always started when one of my friends was on that side and mother wasn't the other side.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: You know, but that's that's the thing growing up and that's something that's hard to explain.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: But that's basically what it is out there and can change it.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it is what it is.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: So I think that was one thing that that I I thought, maybe that's why I didn't want to do it, or try to want to I didn't pursue it or, you know, it's easy, but it was never my thing.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: And I like having, like I said, making people laugh and bringing people together.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thank you.
- 7:25SPEAKER_05: Do you got do you got siblings?
- 7:27SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, I got a little sister.
- 7:28SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 7:29SPEAKER_05: So it was you, mom, and little sister?
- 7:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:31SPEAKER_05: When did you fall in love with making people laugh?
- 7:35SPEAKER_05: Like when did you know, like, oh man, I I enjoy laughing and I enjoy making people laugh.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: My sister, she's the one that always pushed me to be.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, growing up, you don't see stand-up comedy the way you see sports on TV.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: You know, anytime you wanted to see comedy, you either had to go to an event or had a catcher on TV at some hour of the day, didn't know when it was going to be on.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: And so I never knew it was I never knew it was a thing.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: And my sister was always like, Man, you need to be you should you should be a Don Francisco.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: It's a show on TV that it was a Latino-based.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm familiar.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: It's not yeah, it sounds familiar.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Don Francisco estaba lo que and that was a show.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: It was like a like a Steve Harvey show type, you know.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: So yeah, little skits.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: And he had stuff like that.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: And my story would be like, Oh, you you could do that.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: You could be on a show like that.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: And she would always point out like little sitcoms where improv and stuff like that would happen.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: She said, Oh, you could do that.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: Just out of nowhere.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you already, she, she already, she already had it planned that that's something I need to do.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: This comes at a young age, like she has I still have it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: I still have this little paper where it says, You need you belong on TV and you need to be doing this for a lot.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Like, don't I know we are I do.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: And I'm whenever I whenever I get my Netflix special, whenever I get it, I'm gonna, that's gonna be my that's gonna be my flyer to my show.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Your sister wrote that down?
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: And I had and I found it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: That's the thing that I'm talking about 10 years ago, 20 years ago.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: I knew you, bro.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: Like a minute.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: It's been a like this written a while.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: This is before I even started anything.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: And I still have she doesn't know I have it.
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: Because I found it in the box.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: And it was like her diary, and she was throwing it away.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: No, I started like I didn't go through it, but I'll talk to her in her, what is this?
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: You know, and I started and I saw I caught my name.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: And I still have it.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: So when I get my Netflix special, that's gonna be the flyer to my show.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: Wow, where's Sis at?
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: Is she she around?
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she's in Salon.
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: Shout out to Sis.
- 9:28SPEAKER_05: She does that's Barry Valley, shout out to you.
- 9:30SPEAKER_05: We love you here.
- 9:31SPEAKER_05: I guess dope.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: That's all the and she and she has it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Sure no I had it though.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: Well now she'll find out.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: But yeah, that that was that's when I mean I got in a vision.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, God puts puts this dream of mine in my head for sure.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: And I never felt that it was unobtainable.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: And when I started chasing it, all these doors started opening, and it's starting to get for real.
- 9:54SPEAKER_05: All right, let's talk about where you started chasing it.
- 9:56SPEAKER_05: I think, I think, first of all, that thing about your sister is dope.
- 9:59SPEAKER_05: Like, yeah, it ran.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, it is, but it's also not.
- 10:03SPEAKER_05: My little brother wasn't that he was my Natalie, basically.
- 10:07SPEAKER_05: Because my little brother would always tell me, like, Bro, you are going to make it.
- 10:12SPEAKER_05: Like, you're gonna be famous.
- 10:13SPEAKER_05: And this was before I was really even pursuing music.
- 10:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_05: As a matter of fact, at that time, I used to be upset with him for saying it because I didn't want to be famous.
- 10:21SPEAKER_05: Like I didn't want to be really well known.
- 10:23SPEAKER_05: But I would I would make a song or he would hear something and he'd overhear me writing, and he'd just be like, bro, let's get it.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: And you just know, bro.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sometimes people just know, bro.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: You know, they just like that.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I don't know what it is, but it's just kind of like when when you meet somebody and you already know.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Kind of like with you, I already know.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: I I got your still about it.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: But kids know things, man.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: When my sister wrote this, she was still a kid.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: So I think the innocence of a kid just tells so much.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: So when whenever I read it, I I wanted to tear up, you know, because not for her to think that about me.
- 10:57SPEAKER_05: Well, it's it's interesting.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: You talk about like, you know, how God gives you things.
- 11:00SPEAKER_05: You know, the Bible says, unless you be like a child, you can't inherit the kingdom of heaven.
- 11:05SPEAKER_05: And so, like, there is something about children and this intuition that they have, you know what I mean?
- 11:10SPEAKER_05: And they don't really got the same blockers or guardrails, you know, when you're an adult or even a teenager for that matter, life has beat you up so much that there's a ceiling on what you think you can achieve.
- 11:21SPEAKER_05: But a kid, you could tell a kid, like, hey, go jump off of this and plot.
- 11:25SPEAKER_05: Oh, he's gonna, he's like, He got sharp and I don't put on the cake.
- 11:28SPEAKER_05: Well, watch me.
- 11:29SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 11:30SPEAKER_05: And so that's dope, man.
- 11:31SPEAKER_05: So you get you get into comedy and talk to me about.
- 11:36SPEAKER_05: I got two questions.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: You can decide which which path we take off her.
- 11:40SPEAKER_05: I want to hear your path from California to Arkansas and and how that happened.
- 11:46SPEAKER_05: And then I want to hear when you start working your way in the comedy scene, like, what does that progression look like?
- 11:52SPEAKER_05: So JB Hunt brought me out here.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: And they wanted everybody to work from corporate from home.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: And uh, a lot of good things for JB Hunt.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: You guys are a beautiful company, and all the support you guys always give me.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: Shout out to JB Hunt.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: They brought me out here, and my cousin was like, dude, just go out there.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: You're gonna get a little tour.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: Don't want your home.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: And I was like, all right.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: So I came.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:13SPEAKER_03: And I loved it.
- 12:13SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm staying.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: I'm not going nowhere.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: So it was just one of those things that You have been to California your whole life.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: I've been in California, Missouri.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: I've been everywhere.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: I traveled a lot.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: I've always known guys around it, too.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: I f I wanted, I was like, you know what, I'm gonna settle down.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna really just find out where I was watching my friends buy houses and watch them do all the stuff that to me, I always had a like a a lid on my dream.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: And my dream was the lid was it.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: And in when I grew up in where I grew up, those cards were in my hands.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: And it always felt like it was impossible for someone like me to have things like that.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: So I didn't even worry about them.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you didn't think it you didn't think that was something you could achieve.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I didn't think it was it was never in my cards.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: In the situation where like everywhere I was at, yeah, it was never that.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, if you grow up in a house where you see your brothers getting houses or you see your parents getting houses, obviously now it's in your mind that all that's right.
- 13:16SPEAKER_05: I did a podcast with a gentleman named Hero Washington.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: Check him out.
- 13:19SPEAKER_05: He's a real estate.
- 13:20SPEAKER_05: I mean, just he does everything.
- 13:23SPEAKER_05: But in my last podcast with him, he said, Who you surround yourself with lets you know what's possible in life.
- 13:29SPEAKER_05: Facts.
- 13:30SPEAKER_05: And so he was saying, like, I saw my dad have multiple businesses.
- 13:33SPEAKER_05: So when it was time for me to start a business, I I knew I could do it.
- 13:36SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 13:37SPEAKER_05: Well, but to your point, for people who don't see homeownership, bro.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: Like, I grew up in public public housing.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 13:44SPEAKER_05: A partners, projects.
- 13:45SPEAKER_05: Like, so for me, owning a home, it's not even that I didn't think I could do it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_05: It just didn't even come into my mind.
- 13:51SPEAKER_05: That's how it was.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: And growing up and seeing that, it it was just not in my car, so I moved here.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: And I finally said, you know what, I'm gonna get the job, I'm gonna stay steady, and then I'm gonna buy a house.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: And I was starting to hang out with with different people.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: You have a whole different crowd now.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: And everyone's like, How's it for one K?
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: How's your Cressworth look?
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: Like real questions.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: I was like, man.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: And every time I'd want to go out, it's like, you're going out, what are you gonna celebrate?
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Oh, nothing.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: But then where are you going out?
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Uh oh, and I was like, you need to be saving up and focusing on what you need to be doing.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: And those are the type of friends I heard, and they these people were putting me on check.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: It's a free channel to this day.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: Because it they put it in my head, because you know, I'm used to I was used to going out and under the time, and they finally would check me.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, I asked for accountability and they give me Yeah, they're like, hey man, what are you doing tonight?
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm going out.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: I was like, What are you going out for?
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: What are you celebrating?
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: Did you win?
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: I was like, Did you get a promotion?
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: Well, what's up?
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: No, nothing, man.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: I'm just going out.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: I'm just going out.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: I was like, Oh home.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: It's like, so you didn't, you didn't, you didn't you're not celebrating anything?
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I love it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: Uh that new flex, new Netflix special that I'm gonna watch that and but that's not it's like you need friends like that, you know, buffy, buffer you out, you know, because it's it's easy to go out and spend$200,$300, or whatever.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: And depends who you're hanging out with, those VIP guys, nah.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: See, those VIP guys are like, let's get the VIP sessions.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: They gotta get it.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: But nah, those friends, so shout out to my home.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: Shout out to the homies.
- 15:17SPEAKER_05: How how important it I I love this, how important is it to have a community?
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: Because you I've heard you talk about this m twice, but to have people around you that can hold you accountable or that can show you different, how important is that?
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's real.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's real.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: Cause there's friends that I had to let go.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: And and not like go in a way that I don't talk to them anymore, but I just couldn't do it anymore.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: And and I I saw a whole new light of who I wanted to be, and they didn't those things that we do and go out and do stuff like that and and not have plans.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: We're not part of the blue kit, we're not part of the blueprint.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: And I I just it was like, man, every time I said, hey man, we don't see you out anymore.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Yeah, because I'm working, bro.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, it's paying off because everybody's everybody's hitting me up, everybody's wanting me to do this, want to jump on, you know.
- 16:10SPEAKER_05: Cool with that old boy, yeah.
- 16:17SPEAKER_05: Bro, when when when do you realize you're funny?
- 16:20SPEAKER_05: Like, at what point are you like, oh man, I'm not just make myself laugh or make my family laugh.
- 16:25SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm actually funny.
- 16:26SPEAKER_05: I was I was in a school bus.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: It was in high school.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: I think I was in a freshman, I really sure.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: But I was in I was in the back of the bus, and that night prior, it was the first time I've ever seen comedy.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: I turned on HBO, and there he was, George Lopez.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: That's a funny dude, bro.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: And he was killing, he was going, and I'd never seen nothing like it.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: And yeah, well, it's the first time.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: I'd never seen stand up before.
- 16:50SPEAKER_03: And I've never seen it.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: And I I'm watching, I'm like, what is he do?
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: What is this?
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Like, is it what is it?
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: The Latin King's a comedy.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: And I'm watching it, I'm like, everything's just happening.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, the Latin Kings of comedy?
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: And I'm watching it and I'm like, what is going on?
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: Like, what is this?
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: And after watching it, I was like, yo, this is really it was probably hood of you was like, oh, I was locked in, but when I talk about like I was injected, that was it, and I could not think about nothing else.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: And I'm thinking to myself, what just happened?
- 17:16SPEAKER_03: And I'm watching it because you know, I love doing sports, and I love doing anything, but never nothing has ever attracted me in that sense of circle of power of It's a cook memory, like that is I just remember watching it and I was like, yo, what is this?
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Is this even real?
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: What like what?
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: So I'm watching it and I'm just I'm studying it, just and then after that, I turned after it was over, I never seen comedy for a while.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: But it was always in the back of my mind.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: I was like in the next couple of days went by and I was at school and I was like, you know what?
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: And I got in the back of the bus and that's I got up and I was like, yo, listen to this.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: And I just started hammering it, and everyone is cracking up.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: Were you doing his set?
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: No, no, I was doing my own stuff.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I had my own stuff.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: Like it was never I saw what he did.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: And how we so he was relating to a lot of personal stuff that I went through.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: So I was all like, and I started doing it, and everything you know, everybody started the buses started turning around.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: And I did a whole set on the back of a bus.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: And that's when I knew I was like, nah, this has to be real, or this has to be something.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's something here.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: And everybody was like, man, the bus driver's like, hey, was that you?
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Yeah, he's like, hey man, you you ever watch BET?
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: You ever you ever be on that?
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: And I was like, What are it what?
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: I was like, Yeah, man, tune it up for the other driver.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Bus driver.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: The bus driver, because it that's when Def Jam was honey.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Stop that.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: I remember all of that.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: He's already, he's like, hey man, you need to you need to you need to look into this, or but you know, I was I didn't I was nowhere in sight of people managing and you know it was it was hard to find places or what where is the route, like in soccer, football, ain't kind of sport.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: There's there's outlets where you can go and yeah, let's go, but there was nothing for comedy.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: So I was kind of that's where I was stuck.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: And then later on in life, that's when man, give me so give give me the path.
- 19:06SPEAKER_05: I think it's it's three things that you just said that are profound.
- 19:09SPEAKER_05: I the first one is you remember the first time you saw stand-up comedy and and it was a spark, and then you instantly emulated it the next day.
- 19:17SPEAKER_05: You like that's to me that's mind blowing because it's like and it was my own material.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's mind blowing to me.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was my own material.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: It wasn't it wasn't stolen, I I wasn't yeah, I could have easily repeated what he said because I was uh I mimicked him so well that I was like, but I can't I could never tell a joke if someone else told.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: And not not because I can't.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: I mean I could, but it's not the same.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Like I like ecstasy in a way that you can feel it, what I felt when I heard it.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: So for me to give you a B-grade of that, yeah, it's it doesn't seem fair to me.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: Because I care I care so much about human experiences and what the experience that shows.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: So when I say authentic and and really coming with it, yeah, you know, I really respect that.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: I really I feel like that's why my show is so successful because I take passion into a cabette.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't want you to get a C plus performance, I don't want you to get a B.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: I want an A 110% performance.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Whenever you spend time to come see me, you you I want you to get the best experience possible.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: So when I hear a joke that I can't tell fully, I'm not gonna tell it.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Because I can't, I feel like I'm cheating you from getting the same, so you can get what I feel.
- 20:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean since perfect sense, bro.
- 20:29SPEAKER_05: So yeah, so you get this moment where you like, oh man, I am funny and I can do this.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: And and what kind of, as a listener, it feels like a divine appointment.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: Like it feels like for you to do that the first time, have your own stuff, have everybody turn it around, and your bus driver, like looking back on it, it's like, oh yeah, this was in the car for you.
- 20:47SPEAKER_05: You was just gonna be a comedian, you know?
- 20:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 20:49SPEAKER_05: And so from there, give me give me a pad.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: Front like from there, I I I went to my cousin took me to Kansas City, right?
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 20:57SPEAKER_03: And there was an open mic.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: And he tells me, hey, bro, let's jump on it, bro.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: This is like, let's see where you got it.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Where y'all living at the tower?
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: Or uh, I think we're in California.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: So you flew?
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: We flew out.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: No, flood out of Kansas City, because that's where he lived.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Where his dad lived.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: So we're out there and we're out chilling and stuff like that we're out in C and the City.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: And he was like, hey, bro, there's an open mic.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Like, let's go.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: And I was like, uh, dude.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: So let's see if you got it.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: Because everybody at this point, everybody always knows you got somebody knew I have something.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so everybody's like trying to push me, but I was I was the push first.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: I feel like I was ready.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: And I was like, man, that was the only opportunity I've ever saw an open mind.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Why didn't you feel ready?
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: Oh, not ready.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: It just felt like I wasn't allowed.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: So, you know what I'm saying?
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: It's like there was there's a blockage in my head that's like, people like you can't do it.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: People like you are not, you don't have the pretty boy at this.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: You don't have, you don't have the you don't fit in that picture.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: What would you say to that blockage right now?
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: I'd be like, bro, you better get over it, man.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Back up.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: I'm not you better kick that door.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: That that's a cardboard, that's not a wall.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: That's a cardboard wall.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Wall.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Like that's not a that's not a still that's not solid.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: That's not that's just your fears.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: It was just fear of me.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: It was just where I was from and just thinking, like, man, I didn't grow up here.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: People like this don't do that.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like I'm not supposed to be here.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: Like there's not, there's not a it wasn't for me.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: So you get to Kansas City, at the first time seeing an open mic, I do it, right?
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: So the guy tells me, like, hey, we get in there and this was pretty packed.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, oh, okay, well, at least there's gonna be other performances besides me.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: He's like, hey man, a lot of people are not signing up.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: So you're gonna have if you're if you're cooking, five minutes.
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: I'll give you the light, that means wrap it up.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: But if you're cooking, there's not a lot of people, not a sign-up, so do you go or keep going until you're till you tap out.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: I was like, alright, bet, you know.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: This show first time I'll do it.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: First time.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: First time ever, right?
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: So I'm in there like, alright, cool, let's do this, right?
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: So, light, I'm performing and ready.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: And my cousin's been happy over there, but oh, this guy's a comedian, but you know, it's hyping everybody up.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: I get to the bar and you guys like, hey man, you first go?
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Yeah, what's up?
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: I was like, hey man, your cousin's hyping you up.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: And I was like, oh, dude.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't have been worried about that.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: I was worried about me making it to the stage.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: What's cousin's name?
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: Junior.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: Shout out Junior.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: So that's my boy.
- 23:13SPEAKER_03: So he's hyping me up, and this whole time, um, for me to the stage was the longest time ever.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: And it wasn't because I wasn't ready or what like I didn't have it.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: It just felt like something was gonna stop me.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: You know, I feel you.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: I kept thinking someone's gonna grab me and be like, that is not meant for me.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: And I get on that mic, bro, and I start doing my thing.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: And once I take off, bro, I start taking off.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: And I'm sweating, bro, and I'm like, hot, I'm like that for a bottle of water.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: It's the longest five minutes of my life.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Do you remember that first joke on the other?
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: I'm like, okay, I know no dude.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: I am I'm it's been five minutes.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I am cooking, I'm waiting for this guy for the light.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: I'm looking at him and everybody's laughing during the thing.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: I'm sweating, dude.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: I'm like, dude, all right.
- 23:52SPEAKER_05: Like sweating like you're something.
- 23:53SPEAKER_05: Like, yeah, like I was playing a game.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: Wow, and I'm in there.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: And I finally I'm like, you know what?
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: Well, that's been my time on the Frisco Kid thing, you guys.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: And everybody's clapping.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: And I said this joke about the maple leaf, right?
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: I was like, you know, my dad to cross the border.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: You can tell he's a Mexican real hard worker because he didn't stop at the United States.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: He let me in Canada.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: So everybody started because I asked him, I was like, hey, where do y'all if I like I want to get deported, I'm ready to see motherland, you know?
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: It's like I'm ready to see, I'm ready to see my homeland.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: I'm ready just to see Canada.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: And everybody's like, What?
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Y'all thought I was Mexican, I'm Canadian, bro.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: What's up?
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, they call me the Mexican Maple Leaf, bro.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: And they ever started cracking it up.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: It wasn't a thing.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: And I hell skid about it.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: I get off stage when I'm I'm dressed, bro.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: My mouth is dry.
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: I'm like, man, I get off stage and pure dad me.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: I was like, hey, the mix the whole night, the mix resonate right.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: Then I get out there, I was like, man, that was that was the longest five minutes of my life.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: And my cousin's like, five minutes?
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: What are you talking about, bro?
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: And I was like, what do you mean?
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: He's like, dude, you're out there for 30 minutes, dog.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: And I was like, You kidding me?
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: He's like, no, bro.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: Like, you were on one, bro.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: 30 minutes.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Three minutes.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: 30, dog.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: 30.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: First talk.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: 30.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: 30, bro.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: It's hard to end up.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: It's hard to enter 30.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: It'll be 30 minutes, bro.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: Easy, bro.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: It's fake.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Well, for me, it's easy.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: It is came out.
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: Like, it was just everything that was coming out.
- 25:15SPEAKER_05: I'm saying, bro, even as a musician, I've watched people be booed in the first 30 seconds.
- 25:21SPEAKER_05: Literally, I've done shows where somebody on stage before me was 30 seconds into their set and they got booed off stage.
- 25:29SPEAKER_05: And so for you, first time to go 30 minutes, bro, like that's Bro.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: And I just I just remember l looking for that light.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: Or looking for the because like you were standing right there.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: And you just kept going.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: And I'm just like looking at like because I I was going and after a while, you know, when you're on stage, it doesn't feel you hit the flow state.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: It yeah, it didn't, it didn't.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: It usually you feel it while I have this mouth.
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: Because I want when I'm on stage now and I took a 20-minute set, I they give me the light to, you know, write wraps time to wrap it up for shows.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: Um I always get upstairs like, man, I feel like I was there for like five minutes.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: It doesn't feel like 30 minutes.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: It feels so, you know.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so when I got out there, I went, I was just strengthened.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: I was like, man.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: And something told me I wasn't ready yet.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: I didn't really I needed it's still something's missing.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: So I started going through the process of like, all right, I could now I know I can do it.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: At that point, like, all right, I can't be stopped now.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: Like something, something's up.
- 26:21SPEAKER_05: What was that feeling?
- 26:22SPEAKER_05: As soon as you get off, you sweating, everybody coming up to you.
- 26:25SPEAKER_05: What was the feeling that you were experiencing in that moment?
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: It felt so natural.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: It felt like I was in my element.
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: It didn't feel, oh my God.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: It felt more like I'm I've been here.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: I'm supposed to be here.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: It didn't feel like all this is new to me, or no.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: I just felt like something about it already felt like out I needed to catch up to my soul.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: Like my soul was ahead of me, and I finally cut up to my soul's been here the whole time.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: I just needed to get there.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: And as soon as I got there, everyone's dabbing up.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: My cousin was like, oh, they were getting it for free everywhere, you know.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: I told you it's a big style.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: And he was he was just excited.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I just felt like my brain just activated and it's like I got something.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's finally something that I don't have to that I can that's coming out of me.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't gotta take someone else to like fix me.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: So when I did that, I was so excited.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: I was just art like something locked in my brain.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: I couldn't, I was happy, but I was more activated on what I wanted to do.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: Than, you know.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: And now, man, after that I was like, all right, I'm now it's time to do work.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: How many years ago?
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: Uh I was like five years ago.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: And that's what I'm saying, man.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: It took me so long to get over the fear.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: I 26 years, 27 years that I spent thinking I wasn't good enough or thinking it was and and look at it now, bro.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Like pad shows, like, bam.
- 27:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: And it was always, I wish if I had a regret, was that I wish I would have got rid of that card.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: That it's not a wall.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: It's a cardboard wall of whatever you do, whatever fear looks like for you.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: And it's just for you to kick that thing that shit is not you don't even gotta kick it.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: That's the thing.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: You don't even gotta kick it.
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: You could just stump it, and that's it.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not a wall.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: It's a cardboard.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: People that that that are that are scared, or not scared, not I'm not saying you're scared.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: That fear, it's it's a cardboard box, bro.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: Just give it a tap and it's gonna fall.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: I promise you, man, because that's how long it took me, bro, to get up to to finally flick it.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Everything you are on the other side of that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: Everything I answered, bro, and everything's been popping for me, man.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: And when I started, when I really started going after it, it was a whole nother monster.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: And well intent, held people, not not, you know, because I always tell people this all the time, I'm gonna clap for my friends when they win.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: I've never been jealous of nobody.
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: My mom installed that in my head.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Jealousy is not in your blood.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: It doesn't, we don't we're you're proud.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: You're proud.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: You're never gonna be jealous of nobody.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: If they got something better than you, you go get you go get the Cadillac edition.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: You you do better.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: And that's how mentality always liked that.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: And everybody's I I deal with people that I see them and there's like hate, or people hate on you, people do this and that, and I'm like, thank you, bro.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: Thanks for watching.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: And because I always see my I know where I'm headed.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: And the requirements to get to that door does not require envy, jealousy, we're putting people down.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: Those idols don't fit to that door.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: So I can't add to that back.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Mama Frisco.
- 29:27SPEAKER_05: My mama, hello you.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: So, so you do your first stand-up in Kansas City.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: What's the name of the venue?
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: It was an open mic.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: It was in the city.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: It was at the Power Light District.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: I just remember that.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: And it was just it was just a a little place.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: And it was just that open mic and had to what's the one that caught it?
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: Oh, so y'all was out kicking it.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: And it just so happened to be an open mic, he like, oh, let's go.
- 29:53SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: Bro, that made the story even crazier.
- 29:56SPEAKER_05: Because I thought y'all were going to an open mic, but y'all were already out having a good time and just so happened to see an open mic.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: And I remember I was wearing.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Where'd you?
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: I was wearing my Tim's.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: I was wearing some blue jeans and a blue shirt.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: Untucked.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: My hair was slick bag.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: I remember everything.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: And I tell you that that was a little more memory.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: I remember everything.
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: So y'all go, you shut this down, and then what happens?
- 30:20SPEAKER_05: Like you said, now you start taking a more tactical approach to seeing like, okay, I gotta, I gotta improve here.
- 30:26SPEAKER_05: I gotta do, you know.
- 30:27SPEAKER_05: So talk to me about that next process.
- 30:30SPEAKER_05: So when I got on stage, it it felt incomplete.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: I felt like I'm still missing some things.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: So I learned some of those things.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: I felt like it still wasn't fitting me.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: Like I wasn't like I I I got the sauce.
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: No, I need I need the vegetables.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: I need the I need the drinks, I need the sugar, I need how the i I feel like it wasn't incomplete.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: Like I had the good stuff, but it you require an entree, everything, right?
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: So I'm watching, I'm like, what can I what something's not fitting, something's wrong.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: So I watch uh Fluffy.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Does his noises, does like the sound effects, something like okay a bit.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Alright, cut that out he cool.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: I started watching other comedians like what?
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: And then I see it, this is Dane Cook.
- 31:15SPEAKER_05: Vicious circle.
- 31:16SPEAKER_05: Bro, I used to laugh so hard at Danny Cook.
- 31:18SPEAKER_05: It's been a minute, I ain't seen nothing new.
- 31:20SPEAKER_05: But he had this stand-up where he was talking about the BG Lounge or something like that from years ago.
- 31:25SPEAKER_05: It used to be the funniest thing.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: So I watched the Imagine Square Garden one where he sells it out.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: The vicious circle.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: And I'm watching it.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: And he starts the way he does comedy, he paints and he's very active.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: Very animated.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: And that's when I was like, that's what I do.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: I didn't know I didn't know there were rules.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there was rules.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: I can't stand in one spot.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: So I'm watching him do it.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh, you can do this.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: Kidding it.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: Got it.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: I'm still missing something.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: It's like, man, I'm from I'm I like I like hip hop.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: I wanna I like rap.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: I wanna what can I do?
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: I like music.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: Something's gonna say Kevin Hart comes on and he starts talking to understanding.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Alright, not it.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Move on.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Another comedian.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Not it.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Carolyn, you're every day I'm hustling until I didn't know you could add music, and that was the final that was it, bro.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: The storytelling, because that's what I like to tell.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: I like to storytell.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: George Lope is relatable to family to what you do in life.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: HPL storytelling.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Dane Cook with the animation.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: Cat Williams with the music.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: And just rapped, and that was it.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I got him now.
- 32:46SPEAKER_05: Let's cook.
- 32:47SPEAKER_05: So when you moved here, when did you, how did you start building your your network, your the comedy scene?
- 32:55SPEAKER_03: Like what is- Started I started hearding up all the open mics around here.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Okay, and I was like, man, I'm I know you I can't understand.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: I I'm watching these big these big comedia shows.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Like my introduction to comedy wasn't at an open mic.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: It wasn't at a little small area.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: To me, it was big.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: To me, comedy's big.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: And this is how I got introduced to it, so I'm always thinking big.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: So when I go to these shows, they were a little small, and I was like, you could tell that I didn't fit.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: You could tell that I didn't fit.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: It's like, man, you have so much, you have a lot.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: And it's it's like it's good.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: You meant for the big study.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: And that's when I and so my life goes on, I'm doing this, I'm trying to figure it out.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: And I I'm I'm just doing shows left and right, and I had to clean up, I had to clean up my clean up the slate.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: Because everywhere I went, hey, can I do a show here?
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: Uh we know comedy.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: We don't we don't it's not what we're what it's not what we do.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: And I was like, well, I do clean comedy.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: You do what?
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: I do clean comedy.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: It's like it's not, you know, it's it's not degrading, it's not, you know, all these jokes.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: It's not it's clean comedy.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: So for the first first year, I had to do free shows nonstop.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: Just so I can get the reputation.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: It's like, oh, I really it's for ready to do clean comedy.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: So for a whole year, free shows.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: It sucked.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: It it sucked, but it was like, oh man.
- 34:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, you work it for free.
- 34:20SPEAKER_05: If anybody out there got a nine to five job, imagine going to work every day for free.
- 34:24SPEAKER_05: Free for a year.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: And every time I get done with the show, it's like, hey man, dude, yo, yeah, let's run it back and let's do tickets.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: And and I've been there just jumping around, bro.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: And I'm trying to do it.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: And this is when I really separated myself.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: So I did a show at the U of A.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Jordan Williams.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: He's the one that really put me on and really put me in front of people.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: So shout out to Jordan Williams.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: He he puts me on the show at the U of A.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: And alright, let's get it.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: It's the first time I've been on stage.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: Like a theater, right?
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: So I'm in there watching, and I'm backstage, I'm hopping out with the show, and it's like, Frisco, I need you to turn it up.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: Like when you get out there, I need you to I need I need Frisco.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: And I need him at at once.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: I'm like, what's going on?
- 35:08SPEAKER_03: It's like, no, it's just the comments are not doing well.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: So what are you talking about?
- 35:12SPEAKER_03: I start I go out there and I'm watching these guys and I'm used to like, how are they struggling?
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Or you know, I I didn't I didn't get it.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: So I'm all like, oh dude, I got you, bro.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: I step on that stage, bro.
- 35:25SPEAKER_03: It looks like I dropped a tank of gasoline, I put a ladder on it, and boom, dude.
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: I had that thing jump and I had everybody like I felt it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: I felt it.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: That's where I felt like I separated myself from oh I got like what I what I have is just I believe in myself, man.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: And I know I the dream that I have is not there for for accidental reasons.
- 35:47SPEAKER_03: Like I see it and I I see it.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: And I was like, why is it why is it keep coming back when I'm talking about stuff like this?
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: Here.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: When I was on that stage, man, and I got off of it, it's like, dude, there's people that can perform at bars.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: I know they're mics, and there's people that can perform in front of thousands of people.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: And you just you just prove it.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: And it's a different you just proved where your lean is at.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: Because the theater, there's no alcohol.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: There's no going to the restaurant brear back.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: I mean, there is, but you gotta be mindful.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: Now, take take the alcohol out of the equation.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Are you funny?
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you gotta be funny, funny.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: You gotta come with it.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: And that's that's what he came and told me, he's like, there's people that can form at bars, open mic, and there's people that can form for a thousand people.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: Or that's what he told he told me.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: And he's like, You you made it look so effortless.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: And I was like, man, so that's what I'm telling you, man.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: Like, I it's not it's not me saying this.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: It's what the streets say it.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: That's what they're telling me, bro.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: And that's what I like I I I've never been the type to, oh, I'm the best.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: I'm the best there is there, what's nah man.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: Like, I I know what I can bring to the table.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: And I I know what what kind of energy I bring out, and I know I know what people, well people, what I want them to experience.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: So when I do shows, I I don't give you a half this.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: Nah, dude, anytime it's showtime and that light comes on and that camera comes on, the mic, as soon as I get that mic, skate time.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's go.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bro.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 37:19SPEAKER_05: You name some really, really heavy, I mean, some of comedy's best.
- 37:24SPEAKER_05: From George Lopez to Dane Cook to Cat Williams to Dave Chappelle, Dave Chappelle does comedy in a way that I appreciate now as a man, that I I didn't even understand as a child.
- 37:35SPEAKER_05: The way he can paint his the he can paint pictures.
- 37:38SPEAKER_05: And then I also give Dave Chappelle a nod because he's always weaving some type of actual substance into his comedy, whether that's, you know, make sure that you aren't giving your control away unintentionally, make sure that he you know what I mean?
- 37:52SPEAKER_05: Like he always has some type of, you know, how important for you is it, you know, or that I listen to you or even your social media presence, there's a theme that's there's not much that a smile can't fix.
- 38:06SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 38:06SPEAKER_05: So so you have this.
- 38:08SPEAKER_03: I I had to learn how to smile.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: I had to learn how to smile.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: And it wasn't it wasn't that a know-how.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: Like it just felt I I just knew what a smile did for me in my bad times.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: And I I just remember just the smile is always gonna break away from it's always gonna break a barrier that you don't think is there.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: And it is true because anytime I approach people when I have a serious face, that intensity is there.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: But when you smile, it just loosens people up.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: And I I I try to put the energy out there.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Like I said, I've already I've already dealt with bad times and I've already had a I've I've I've done I've been in so many situations where I'm like, man, this this can't be it.
- 38:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_03: So for someone to feel in that in that situation when they encounter me, I never want them to feel like they're hopeless.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: I always want them to feel like, why is this guy so happy about they are what's going on, bro?
- 38:59SPEAKER_03: You know how we're wanna I want to know.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: Curiosity always when when when you're in a certain state, that that state of mind always has a after, always has a counterpart.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: And it's gonna attract to it every time.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: It's gonna find out if you're angry and this guy's happy, you're gonna f why are you so happy?
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: That's that door.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: There's a door now.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: There's there's a there's a bridge, and now you can now that person on the other end can either give you some water or leave you out to dry.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: So that's the way I try to sit.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: That's why I wish to try to smile all the time.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: On my way to work, I know I freak people out.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Because every morning I on my way to work or wherever I'm running, I try to smile for 10 minutes.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: Keep your muscles intact.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, dude.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: Driving down the road.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: Just cheesing.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: I'm being for real.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: And my my wife took me to work when we were driving my wife and she's like, what are you doing?
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: And I was like, oh, I smile for 10 minutes, just try to keep my muscles intact.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: I'm being for real, bro.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: See that.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna smile, bro.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to smile, and I feel like the world needs it, man.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: And the world needs it.
- 40:07SPEAKER_03: It's in the world where everyone's trying to get torn apart and and want you want to use venom.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: Nah, bro, I can't.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: That venom don't affect me no more, man.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: There's nothing you can say to me that's gonna break, man, dude.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: I got a heart, I got a hustle, man.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's a dog in me that I mean, you can pet him all day, bro.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: He was cool, right?
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's why I try to live myself, man.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: I I love how people recognize their comedy, but I really want them to recognize me for helping people too.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: I really I would want that to be on top of my comedy.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: Because, man, life is so hard sometimes, and when you can pick that first person off the ground and they need that words of encouragement, yeah, man, you don't know what kind of life you don't know what kind of life you just changed, you know?
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: And like I said, I I watch people, you know, drowned in their own sorrows and not being able to someone to help them.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: And just being able to stay in your hand, help them up, and just do what do you need from me?
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: I was like, nothing, man.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: Just go out someone else, drown, go here, go.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: Just get some good energy out, or oh, and put some fires out.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: You have the capability of doing it.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Your mind is is a tool.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: You're the way you act, it's responsibility.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: That's why I don't when when what I say I take it seriously, because people people can always gonna try to people are always gonna try to do left and right with you, but if you know where you're headed, that none of that should be bothering you.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: And like I said, my door that I'm going through, it doesn't require hate.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: It doesn't require me hating on you, it doesn't require me stepping on people.
- 41:38SPEAKER_03: I already know what that door requires.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: You know, and I'm just waiting for for the person that's gonna be at the end to be like, all right, you're next.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: There.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna be ready.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna shop on my tools, I I I'm ready to go.
- 41:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I love that, man.
- 41:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 41:50SPEAKER_05: When you when you think about now, social media is a very big way that we communicate with each other.
- 41:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 41:56SPEAKER_05: You, based off what I've seen, have a very active social media presence, and I think you do a good job of being intentional.
- 42:04SPEAKER_05: I was just telling another friend of mine.
- 42:07SPEAKER_05: Sometimes what you see is people who are real, genuine in person have a hard time translating that to their social media.
- 42:15SPEAKER_05: And then sometimes people who look really good on social media they're not the same in part, you know what I mean?
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: But you've you figured out a way to do both.
- 42:24SPEAKER_05: Talk to me about the importance of social media and kind of I I already have a pretty good following.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: And like I said, I know where I'm headed.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: And I already have social media, and it's hard to people follow me.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: And I said, Man, like I I want to help people.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: Like, what's I already know where I'm going.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: I know where I'm headed.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: I want to be able to help people around me.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: So I use that social media to put other people on.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: I want people to get to know you, get to the next person.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, like I said, I know where I'm headed.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: And if I can help people get to where they need to be at, bro, use it.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: Use it to help, man.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: Like, whatever you need from me, I got it, bro.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: I'm comfortable.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: And like I said, my tracks are I already see my tracks.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: I know where I'm headed.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: So if I can help you out, like, hey man, I need help with my business, I need help.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: I'm like, come on, bro, let's get it.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: She said, shoot me everything.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: I'll share it.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: It's it's not it's for you, bro.
- 43:15SPEAKER_03: Like, man, you know, man.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: Like I said, that that social media, you're that you're like the fourth person to ask me that, be like, dude, how are you?
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: Like, you really are who you are.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Yeah, man, I'm not trying to fake it.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna do go, not smile.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: If I showed up here with a mean face, you'd be like, that's not the guy.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: That's not the same guy, but no, I mean, just helping people, bro, and and like I said, and just help people, bro.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: Just help one another, man.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: And it's cliche and people see how they want, but I don't see it as I don't that's one of my main things.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: That's why the reason I got so far, because people I tell people my dream and I believe it.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: And it lights people up that want to go and do things that are they're scared to do.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: You just when you have that one person that you know personally and You see them doing something, it just gives you a different kind of fire.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: Cause you can hear motivational speakers all day, left and right, left and right.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: If you don't know them personally, then yeah, it does something to you and let and and let's get it.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: But when you see someone that you know, yeah, parsed hair, and you watch them do it, bro.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: It it's a so I can't fail.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: I can't fail, man.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: My mom put it in my head, my sister put it in my head, my wife, everybody that that that believes in it, there's I can't fail, bro.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: The urge to want to win, to me, it it's it's inedible, man.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: And I believe in my dream so much that I I I used to feel like it was it was so far away that I couldn't reach it.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: And now the people that I used to look up to, they follow me on Instagram and I send a message, they respond to me.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: So it's no longer that my dream is so far away from me.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: I feel like a crocodile just waiting.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: It's like my time has come here.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: When it comes, I'm I'm gonna go hard because they never seen nothing like me.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I be watching, I watch everything, bro.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: And I watch their their stand-ups and I watch them and I was like, oh man, just give me the mic, bro.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, see what I can do, man.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: And and I was I always want to see someone better than me.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: Like when I see when other people see something that like a competition or something, it does something to them.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: It poisons their soul to me.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: When I see something like that, it just lets you know there's another bar.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: That's even more excited.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: I gotta get a little bit better on my keys, or I gotta get a little bit better.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: I need to get I need to get that response.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, I always I always want to see people better than me.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: And I feel like that's I I don't, I don't know.
- 45:29SPEAKER_05: I'm excited.
- 45:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: Oh dear.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:31SPEAKER_05: How do I build a following from nothing?
- 45:33SPEAKER_05: I'm an up-and-coming comedian.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: I had my moment like you had your Drew Lopez moment last night.
- 45:38SPEAKER_05: And now I want to start putting myself out there and get my following.
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: And I want to get people that's, you know what I mean?
- 45:43SPEAKER_05: Like, how would you how do I use social media to start building my following as an up-and-coming comedian today?

- 45:55SPEAKER_03: Be be okay with be o be It's hard for me to say doubt signing People are gonna people are gonna talk about you, people are gonna try to bring you down.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: And anything you post.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: I just had this one guy, he started posting for the first time, and he's in there looking at is there how many people like this?
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Dude, stop looking at that.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: Don't even look at it.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: Don't even look at it.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: Cause that's gonna that is that's gonna break you down faster than it can bill you.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you need to get ready, because uh when I first started it, I had somebody, why are you doing this?
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: How much is it paying?
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Da-da-da-da-da-da.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: And I had to deal with people telling me no.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: Your dream it, your dream is it's in your mind for a reason.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: And you have the capability of doing it.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: It's just you're you're hustled, your dog gotta be there, man, and your dream has to be bigger than all the criticism has to be protect your dream.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: And I I never understood that.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: And to me, a dream was just something that floats in the air, and oh yeah, one day.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: But now I'm opening up some big people.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: You live in your dream in a lot of way.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: It's just like I'm ready, man.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Like I said, I've been working nonstop, I've been polishing my stuff.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: I'm just I it's sometimes hard for me to sleep because I'm just thinking of like, all right, what what I gotta do different?
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: What I gotta do next, like pivoting, like not settling and just stay moving.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: And people, where do you sleep?
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: And I was like, man, if I couldn't sleep, that would be awesome.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: You know, it's just uh it is what it is.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: But for people that they're coming up and starting to do that, get ready.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Just be prepared for the to ignore the hate.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: And people telling you it's not gonna work, that's not their dream.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Why would you why would you why would you take their their set of rules when it's your dream?
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: You know?
