- 0:30multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 0:35Things
- 0:41nerdy that's the sync of all three of us being on highspeed
- 0:47connections I have an erection now so uh now let's begin High spe connection
- 0:52sounds like like a dating site for race car
- 0:57drivers yeah or jockeys find your true
- 1:01love on the highp speed connections so what do you guys been
- 1:07doing this week me Batman ah you've been doing you've been doing Batman I've been doing
- 1:14Batman you don't do Batman Batman does you and when we have a bit of breather
- 1:20from Batman doing me I've been playing the game as
- 1:24well he Ducks off to uh to Goth City yeah mhm
- 1:30um well you haven't just been doing that we uh we came down to visit you this
- 1:35weekend Jenner and I and and Jordan yes um Jenna sister we went down to CRA and
- 1:40we visited Luke and we played a game that I would like to discuss briefly
- 1:45okay it's called put your keys in the bowl and everyone goes home with a
- 1:51stranger it's called drawful oh God that was a fun game it's
- 1:57by the people who make you don't know
- 1:59Jack that quiz game mhm mhm and it's uh
- 2:05it's basically uh we had like five people playing you you start out and you
- 2:09name yourself and you draw a little picture of yourself and it goes on the
- 2:12screen and then each you play on your moob on your phone or your tablet right
- 2:17so the the um the Xbox will load up and it will say go to this URL and the room
- 2:22code is this four-letter code so you on your phone you go to the website type in
- 2:27the code and then you play the game on your phone looking at the screen yeah y
- 2:32yeah it's cool and so you draw pictures on the phone right and so it'll come up
- 2:35and it'll say something like um like what was one of the ones I got um a
- 2:40booger with legs is one of the ones I got and um some of them some of them
- 2:46it's it felt to me like I don't know if it's because we got drunker as it went
- 2:50on but it felt to me like they got a lot harder uh I don't know some of them were
- 2:56really easy and then others were I don't know what this is
- 4:00technically boulder dash if anyone played that old board game I haven't but it might
- 4:06be that sounds the same but with definitions of words and you you got to
- 4:11guess what word means but you can also Bluff so that people pick yours yeah
- 4:16yeah okay it is like that I guess except yeah you technically have no
- 4:20confirmation of what it actually is right until the end anyway so yeah it's
- 4:24pretty fun and um it was a great night we instead of going out cuzz we I plan
- 4:28to take everyone out go into reload bar which is a computer game bar thing in
- 4:33canra but we just started playing that started drinking and we did not want to
- 4:36leave I should clarify I said it was pretty fun it's not pretty fun it's
- 4:39awesome I realized I just I did not do it credit with pretty fun it's
- 4:44great so um I mean it's part of a uh a
- 4:48pack on the Xbox which uh what else is in that pack Luke uh fibbage which is
- 4:54sort of the same game except it comes up with a um just comes up with the
- 4:58question and then everyone has to try and write in an answer that they think
- 5:01other people will guess yeah that was pretty good too that was a good game and
- 5:06then there's oh just a normal Quiz Game Y which is up to four plays and then
- 5:11there's a couple other games which I haven't really played when you're
- 5:14drawing on your phon it's coming up on the TV screen is that what you mean
- 5:17yeah no well it does but you submit it like you draw and then you submit it and
- 5:21then it'll it'll dis like one after the other you kind of it'll pop one up and
- 5:25then it'll say what is this and then everyone types A Thing unless you drew
- 5:28it and then it yeah and then afterwards it'll display all the options and you
- 5:32have to choose which one you think it is and the person who uh if if someone
- 5:36picks your incorrect one you get some points but if you drew the picture and
- 5:41they choose the right answer that means you drew well I guess so you get points
- 5:45and they get slightly less points because obviously it would you know
- 5:48because you want to win if you got it if you drew well so nice it's like the uh
- 5:55when you come back to Australia we're playing it done done and done
- 6:00well if it's mobile I'll just play it from here well we thought that maybe we
- 6:04could play via Skype because you need to see the screen of the Xbox though yeah
- 6:08right probably better in person I guess sure
- 6:14y yeah sounds like the new age equivalent of playing charades after a
- 6:18dinner party yeah probably true I it reminded me what it is it reminded me if
- 6:24remember the game uh what was the the the Christian game we used to play oh
- 6:27the wrath of God um I think it was just called the Old
- 6:33Testament yeah okay I don't know remember chanting an Xbox game that was a Bible
- 6:39quiz with side missions right yes and we used enter really offensive names for
- 6:45our characters yeah you could be winning and then the wrath of God would just
- 6:50send a plague to you and you would lose that's right that's that's real life
- 6:55kids so we used to get drunk and play that a lot so good
- 7:01God I miss getting drunk all the time and playing games with you guys a I know
- 7:06it sounds like you guys are still and the other stuff well not very
- 7:10often no is it the is time true it's probably the first time
- 7:17we've done that in years last time we did it was probably uh Mario
- 7:23party yeah yeah at Carl's house or something yeah well yesterday I went to
- 7:29Universal Studios ah how is it over there great because you've been
- 7:35to the one in La I have I've been to California and now I've been to the
- 7:39Singapore one it's a lot newer uh so some of those can feel a
- 7:45little dated whereas this one didn't have that dated feel that said it's not
- 7:49nearly as big and it's not attached to a real studio right well neither is yeah
- 7:54the one in um in Florida is not attached to the studio either so it's a bit it's
- 7:58a bit different it's probably more like that but do you know how the one in tell
- 8:03me if this is the same in Florida but in California you go on a tour and they
- 8:07kind of point out the New York set for example yeah in this there's a section
- 8:11of it that is New York and you walk through it and there's attractions
- 8:15within that yes yeah it's more like that yeah yeah yeah uh it was great loved it
- 8:21love that H day would have been worth it just for the Transformers ride
- 8:27oh Transformers 3D when in America they were building that
- 8:33at the Universal Studios over there so we didn't get to go on it I went on it
- 8:38so good yeah I wonder you think it was as good as I think it was is it is it
- 8:42the same where you kind of you get in a in like a fake car and it's uh I can't
- 8:46remember why but um but I mean I I assume it's the same
- 8:53it's hard to describe it's basically the Decepticons are trying to kill you and
- 8:57and you trying not to die because well do anything you sit in the
- 9:01car uh yeah this sounds slightly different but I'm sure it's the same
- 9:04premise but it's basically one of those things that they developed in the '90s
- 9:09where you you sit in a chair and happens around you but this is just the
- 9:13absolute best version of that I've ever seen like you know you got picked up and
- 9:17thrown and if if you didn't know you were in a chair you know you'd question
- 9:22your own sanity like this was so well done now I didn't know the backstory of
- 9:29it because I had the express pass so I skipped all the
- 9:32cues I was going on all these rides and not actually knowing the backstory what
- 9:37The Mummy ride and there's this mommy going give me the book and I'm
- 9:40like I don't know what book and honestly I don't have the book man I've got no
- 9:44idea what you're talking about yeah I like as well I mean this is
- 9:50the same with all of those rides is you get to the end of the ride and Optimus
- 9:54Prime is there like thank you you have helped save the world the world you're
- 9:58an honor aut I didn't do anything I I just sat here in this car and tried not
- 10:03to die yeah yeah I literally had a grin on my face the whole time though
- 10:09yeah I'm looking forward cuz I'm going to go next year mhm over to the states
- 10:14so I'll go I'll get finally get to go on that ride y they've got another new one
- 10:19at uh oh the Harry Potter stuff at
- 10:22um at at Florida not we've been on the you've been on some of the Harry Potter
- 10:29stuff but not the new Harry Potter stuff well I'm looking forward to by the time
- 10:32we go next year they will have uh Star Wars Land open hopefully hopefully
- 10:38true at Disney mhm well they're just replacing future
- 10:45land which was is that what they're doing tomorrow land they're just going to they're
- 10:51replacing that tomorrow land felt like 5 years ago land I
- 10:56know tomorrow land now like the house of tomorrow basically like you've got an
- 11:01iPad and I'm like yeah I do have an iPad taking a photo with it now yeah I'm
- 11:08filming you telling me about it on my iPad
- 11:13yeah but uh so but they just made a movie about Tomorrowland like yeah does anyone know
- 11:20even what that is no I just saw posters for it and I went a it looks like
- 11:24something I don't want to care about yeah I haven't even heard of it
- 11:30uh I might watch it for research if if the listeners want yeah look of all the
- 11:36Disney movies coming out this year that's that's not even on my
- 11:40radar I'm not even going to watch it even if even if the listeners want me to
- 11:46no I heard it wasn't very good so told all
- 11:52right well uh God what do we what do we want what do we want to dig into this
- 11:59um did you guys hear about the crap happening at
- 12:04Reddit probably not look uh I I I didn't and then I tried to read an article
- 12:09about it and I didn't really understand much of what was going on Matt so why
- 12:13don't you take us through it all right well if you're a fan of Reddit uh as a
- 12:19lot of of people on the internet are uh you'll know that they have uh a section
- 12:24called um I am um which is um
- 12:30ask me anything I am so and so ask me anything orever the they ended up
- 12:34with that specific URL but basically cele two dicks ask me anything yeah so
- 12:39celebrities and and just people of Interest guys with two dicks go on there
- 12:44and they go look I've got two dicks ask me some questions or ask me anything and
- 12:48generally it's not anything it's almost anything because they won't answer
- 12:51certain things but anyway people come on they ask a bunch of question about the
- 12:54second dick Jesus yeah I just want to talk about my primary dick
- 13:00um the to be fair I focus mostly on my primary
- 13:05dick so that as as you can imagine on the internet that normally turns into a
- 13:10huge cluster and apparently a big part of of managing all that uh was a
- 13:15person called Victoria Taylor who worked for Reddit um uh based in New York she
- 13:20was and well still is asan getting old
- 13:24timey based in New York she was just I talk I don't know what you
- 13:29mean anyway so the celebrities often would go
- 13:34in to her office there uh and they would she would ask the questions they would
- 13:39answer she would type because oh okay because uh for a number of reasons she's
- 13:45a good typer she's good at I guess communicating with celebrities and
- 13:48handling them because as as we've discussed certain celebrities can be a
- 13:53handful so she apparently she was very good at all that stuff uh and also um she
- 13:59had to verify that it was them because in the past uh they had people who were
- 14:05not the celebrities doing amas and then the publicist for the for the celebrity
- 14:10being like whoa whoa whoa shut that down
- 14:13like that is not my client so um so
- 14:17apparently she did she did a really really awesome job uh people were a huge
- 14:23fan of her you know like just people users of the website in general were big
- 14:27fans of her uh and she all also helped a lot of other moderators on Reddit um
- 14:32look after their sections CU there's I mean if you don't know what Reddit is
- 14:36it's kind of like this ridiculous online community where you can have a section
- 14:39for anything and it's come under a lot
- 14:42of flak uh for kind of allowing a lot of
- 14:47stuff that's illegal or questionable or whatever because you really could just
- 14:51go on there and start a uh a section of the website about anything like be it
- 14:57you know um breakfast cereal or uh My
- 15:02Little Pony or child pornography or you know anything
- 15:09and uh and they they did shut down a lot of the the last thing that I mentioned
- 15:14recently thank godh um but uh racism and bigotry and things uh it gets a lot of
- 15:20flak for kind of allowing but people have made the argument well if you
- 15:25censor it then off it's like it
- 15:29on the internet put up with racism is something we have to do as a society and
- 15:34the internet is no different yeah and it it loses its value if you just censor everything
- 15:40so um anyway apparently she she helped out with a lot of other sections with
- 15:45their moderation all that kind of stuff um and the other day uh she was fired
- 15:52with no explanation uh apparently she doesn't
- 15:55even really know why uh and Reddit did
- 15:59not tell anybody about it uh she just
- 16:03was not there anymore and so a lot of people were really confused and angry
- 16:08about it in particular the other moderators on Reddit who um apparently
- 16:13have been complaining that their job is very hard anyway um and so a lot of
- 16:18really really popular subreddits uh just closed down they set themselves to
- 16:24private and they said sorry we're shutting down
- 16:27um in par well AMA shut down um and I
- 16:33think there's a list on here of a lot of
- 16:36the bigger ones um art ask Reddit books
- 16:40gadgets gaming history AMA life Pro tips movies music videos jokes documentaries
- 16:47listen to this data is beautiful whatever that is uh today I learned
- 16:51which is a very big one um DIY and funny so and I'm sure a lot more but those are
- 16:56all I mean they're pretty big sections read it and uh them shutting down
- 17:02definitely would have a financial effect on the website so uh it's it's yeah kind
- 17:09of a big deal for them and then um oh and also sorry um sex with bears was
- 17:13another one that shut down that's all good but I think we've
- 17:17skipped over the interesting part about this I know you said we don't know why
- 17:22she was fired people don't just get fired no there's normally a reason
- 17:28behind it um apparently okay there have been a lot of things put forward as to
- 17:32why it might have been there was this that she did a there was an AMA with um
- 17:36Reverend Jesse Jackson recently that went very very poorly because people
- 17:41kept asking him a lot of sensitive questions that he refused to answer why you're such a
- 17:47bigot basically all that kind of stuff and he just kept talking about how
- 17:51difficult it was for him and that's happened before with other on
- 17:56like Harrison Ford even just sort of ignored right direct questions right I think
- 18:01it's is similar to um a recent
- 18:05Twitter uh thing where the author of 50
- 18:09Shades of Gray um they organized you could tweet questions on a hashtag and
- 18:15then basically everybody tweeted oh you know have you ever heard of consent um
- 18:19you know how do you yeah how do you feel about uh you know victims of sexual
- 18:24abuse this kind of stuff and it kind of just turned to but really at the
- 18:27end of it that she can't be responsible for his answers no that's right and so
- 18:33they've said no no no it wasn't because of that that was that was an absolute
- 18:36fest yeah poor choice of words I guess
- 18:41um but um but that didn't go very well um but that had nothing to do with it
- 18:47and so somebody else suggested Reddit had said they wanted all employees to
- 18:51relocate to San Francisco uh and she refused Apparently that is also not the
- 18:55case um and now apparently um somebody
- 18:59who works at Reddit said management was pushing her to do very commercial things
- 19:06with the amas that she didn't want to do because she didn't think the Reddit
- 19:09Community wanted them for example they wanted video amas and she said no people
- 19:15don't want that they want what we have and they said um given her resistance to
- 19:21all their ideas they eliminated her position and let her go well if that's
- 19:25the case that sounds 100% valid yeah yeah well I don't know if it's I
- 19:31don't know if it's true gave direct instructions and you ignored them yeah
- 19:36well apparently yeah she she disagreed with them on a lot of things and
- 19:39generally there were things related to them wanting to make more money so so
- 19:43they fired her which makes sense for them I mean that's that's kind of how the world
- 19:49works yeah I've got less sympathy for it if it's something like that well I also
- 19:54go to work tomorrow and I was told hey guys we're moving buildings yes and I
- 19:59went no I like my desk I'm not moving ex and I didn't move they would let me go
- 20:06yeah probably well I mean they alternatively if they came in and said
- 20:09look we're taking these things in a New Direction here and you your new
- 20:13prerogatives and you said no I'm going to keep doing it the old way and I
- 20:16refuse to uh progress then likewise I would let you go as well yeah so if it's
- 20:22true I mean it's it's obviously more complicated than they just got rid of
- 20:26get rid of her for no reason so but now this is all sort of theory about
- 20:30why has she come out and said anything she said she doesn't really know she was
- 20:34just told that she's not required anymore right for a second yeah that
- 20:40might that might not be true so you know what you did should ask know what you
- 20:46did so anyway the the the the the result of all this was that all these reddits
- 20:52shut down um because they said it's not just about that it's also about the fact
- 20:56that we've been complaining for ages that it's really hard to to re
- 21:00in the chaos that is the internet and and the management has not been doing
- 21:06anything about it um they just keep trying to make more money as I guess you
- 21:11know and and ignoring and ignoring and ignoring the fact that everybody's jobs
- 21:15just keep getting harder so uh but to me it's not the business's fault that the
- 21:21job's getting harder it's people on the internet are dicks that's probably very
- 21:25true so I don't know yeah I don't know I don't know how this is going to get
- 21:29fixed I'll be honest cuz it sounds like I mean and also I don't also don't
- 21:33really understand it either because I don't know what their job is moderators
- 21:36I kind of do I can imagine that it's involves making sure people aren't
- 21:41posting pics of you know people animals and stuff on the on there all
- 21:45the time like amongst a lot of other things don't you sensor me Matt don't
- 21:49you dare sensor me I did I didn't I didn't list your subreddit Dan I made I
- 21:55know I know you like to keep it off the podcast so Fox
- 22:01animals.com I have to register another domain just go to Dan naked.com we're
- 22:07going to change the picture we need to update the picture we do Dan naked.com
- 22:11I'm serious listeners go to Dan see what happened just say Matt I said we need to
- 22:14update it you said okay we do and you're going to do it as opposed to
- 22:19uh Victoria Taylor who would have said no fine the way it is so you're implying
- 22:26that you're in charge here and and you would fire me if I was to not do
- 22:32it look all I'm saying is look what happened to Victoria
- 22:37taylored her notice she's not on the podcast anymore Matt I my case that's
- 22:42true she's never been on previously but matter it's not
- 22:47point yeah you no fair point uh but again that it could all be untrue anyway
- 22:53we don't really know but reddits as far as I'm aware still all up and
- 22:58weird it's I mean it's definitely costing the money to have all this m uh
- 23:02stuff shut down sh going it's interesting yeah so anyway I'm sure if
- 23:08you're a a a Reddit user you know about it already so um and if you have any
- 23:14more information RIT once well I don't know what it is I definitely like I
- 23:18check Reddit uh you know a couple of times a day because there is interesting
- 23:22stuff on there it's kind of like a filter for all the um you know this if I
- 23:28if I I just check my RSS feeds there's a lot of stuff in there I'm not interested
- 23:31in whereas if I go on Reddit then it's if it's been voted up to the point that
- 23:34I can see it on the front page it's probably interesting you know
- 23:37interesting I've gone to redit twice ever once for serial
- 23:44spoilers and once for the AMA with a guy with the two
- 23:49dicks right they're the two times well that was that was third times I went
- 23:55when Joe Dante did a AMA as well oh yeah okay well yeah I've seen a few of them
- 24:01on there Jeff Goblin did one a little while ago that was good um who else I
- 24:05mean lots of people have done them it's uh it's been pretty cool so yeah it'll
- 24:11be interesting to see how they handle it this will go away in a week you're
- 24:14probably right yeah yeah one way or another yeah the internet forgets
- 24:19quickly yeah it does and then they remember and everyone remembers together
- 24:23and then they forget again yeah I'm trying to remember what they oh hatred
- 24:27though have pissed off for about a little while ago
- 24:29and um oh and that um that role playing game that was set in historical Bulgaria
- 24:36and didn't include black people um they they were mad they were mad about that
- 24:40for a while yeah and oh and Mad Max being feminist they were mad about that
- 24:45for a while yeah yeah anyway and then nothing changes and
- 24:51then they forget exactly jump on another bandwagon and
- 24:56then they'll use that as an example of something in about a year's time and
- 25:00then they'll forget exactly Go internet woo I'm a little
- 25:05high I'm sorry what you're
- 25:10high oh I had some painkillers right all right oh we yeah
- 25:15we made you walk around a lot this weekend I'm sure yeah that wasn't good for your
- 25:19leg that's why yeah painkillers all prescription All Above boards okay yeah
- 25:24yeah we know we know well the okay the listeners maybe don't yeah yeah call the cop
- 25:29in Italy so do you want to talk about
- 25:36Michael Jackson um any Michael Jackson news are we don't get much Michael
- 25:41Jackson news anymore there's not a lot of Michael Jackson news but I I think we
- 25:45should have a jingle for it for when it does come all right what what are the uh
- 25:50what's the creative brief for the for the Michael Jackson jingle you would
- 25:53like I like it Thriller oh Thriller all
- 25:59right that's it and it has to incl well if it's Thriller it has to include a
- 26:04little bit of the wacko Jacko voice in there but also a little bit of the
- 26:08Vincent Price narration all right all right I like it I like it all right cool
- 26:15uh that's probably going to sound a little something like [Music]
- 26:21this now it's time for all the latest
- 26:25news regarding the world's most famous
- 26:32[Laughter]
- 26:38babysitter I miss him I miss I miss both of them yeah I miss Vincent Price a bit
- 26:44more but uh I I guess I miss Michael Jackson as well cuz he was Enter he was
- 26:48he was entertaining on on several levels and I mean Vince Price or Michael
- 26:53Jackson Michael Jackson yeah yeah for sure I do love it how he kind of became
- 27:00a Marty after he died like and I was working I'm working at the Record Shop
- 27:06when he died I think I was but it's it's that phenomenon of everyone going a it's
- 27:11a dirty pedophile and then the day he dies he was a musical genius and he
- 27:16represented us all with his songs right yeah I mean I don't we might have
- 27:21discussed this before but obviously there things he did that you know
- 27:25weren't right allegedly allegedly did that weren't right right but on the
- 27:29other hand he lived a very very different life to anybody else in the
- 27:34world so I mean you didn't meet Michael
- 27:37Jackson did you no I never met him I'm only asking because Luke is the kind of
- 27:43kid Michael Jackson would have wanted to meet yeah no you know what I mean like
- 27:48if Luke said I've met Michael Jackson we wouldn't go what how we'd go oh yeah
- 27:54because you were 10 right around the fact right around the time he was well
- 27:58into 10 year olds yeah and you had cancer like and cancer and so I think if
- 28:04you ever had to come to Australia around that time I probably would have met him
- 28:07yeah wow yeah you definitely would have so you could have been involved in that
- 28:10whole lwuit yeah he would have you and you would have been like having
- 28:14to describe his penis to the police and and on this podcast right
- 28:19right now yeah all right well what else did he do
- 28:26well Michael Jackson's in the news this week uh Russell
- 28:30Crow actor Russell Crow has come out and said that Michael Jackson used to prank
- 28:36call him for years what yeah two or
- 28:41three years he says I never met him never shook his hand but he found
- 28:46out the name I stayed in hotels under so it didn't matter where I was he'd ring
- 28:51up and do this kind of thing like you did when you were
- 28:5410 which is just weird I mean here's what he'd say he me and in a strong
- 28:59voice he'd say there's an emergency and you need to leave the building and he'd
- 29:04say who is this and he'd say oh not to worry just kidding it's Michael now
- 29:10that's weird right that's weird yeah that's that's weird there's
- 29:15another one where he said it it was and
- 29:18I just love how like childish this is is
- 29:22Mr wall there is Mrs wall there are there any walls there well then what's
- 29:27holding up the roof the only problem I have with all of this
- 29:33MH is he said this went on for two or three years just change the name you
- 29:37stay under in hotels it goes away yeah fair enough yeah but if you've got a
- 29:43really good name that you stay under like for example I've got a really good
- 29:47password that I like to use and occasionally some website or something
- 29:51will make me change it and I will get so irritated because I don't want to change
- 29:57it I like my password well you realize that's for your benefit that they ask
- 30:03you to do that yeah yeah I do but having a good passw is also for my
- 30:09benefit well uh I mean I don't want to I don't want you to say what it is but how
- 30:13do you define a good password cuz I think what you think of as a good
- 30:17password might not be what is actually a good password to have something that I
- 30:21can remember even when I've changed it that's that's what I want because I
- 30:26don't want like apple needs me to sign in no that's not your password remember
- 30:30you changed it and when we asked you to change it you were out somewhere and you
- 30:33just came up with something on the top of your head and now you can't remember
- 30:36what it is that's why you use a password manager well that's why I use a password
- 30:42manager Matt do you want to be my password manager I can't believe out of all the
- 30:48jobs that's a job and that you've employed someone to be that not you're just a cultural
- 30:53imperialist man yeah what happens if you forget your password to the manager
- 30:58well you just don't you have to make sure that your master password yeah
- 31:01that's what it's called it's called a master password no you're the master and
- 31:05he's the manager you got to make sure it's a strong password that you won't
- 31:09forget and in fact you can the best thing to do is to write down that
- 31:13password and put it somewhere because it's actually better like literally
- 31:17better for you to have a really strong password written down and stuck to a
- 31:22Post-It note on the screen in front of you then to have the password be your
- 31:26middle name or some thing that thatone on the internet could literally guess
- 31:31yeah chances AR sitting next to you looking at your screen that's right so
- 31:36if if if if it's something that you can't remember that might be better as
- 31:41long as you can write it down so long as you have some way to
- 31:45recall it right exactly yeah yeah so I I I use soft I use software for that but
- 31:52yeah you got a little Indian boy doing it for you don't
- 31:55you little s hurry Sanic does so much for us do we have a jingle for my Indian
- 32:02password manager yes we do Matt I will remember your passwords for you Indian
- 32:09password manager.com I have no idea what I'm going to do for that but that's what it
- 32:15was nice um you know I actually met someone called Sanji did you yes I did his last name
- 32:22was not MCU it was something slightly less Scottish but yeah I was going to
- 32:28say I don't think anyone from India's name is McCurry if you're one of our Indian
- 32:34listeners and your last name is McCurry right in for a special
- 32:38prize the only Ginger Indian that sounds like a movie that
- 32:44should really exist do we have an Indi oh we maybe we should play the Indian
- 32:48news jingle as well oh man you are you've got a busy weekend coming up no
- 32:51no we've already got an Indian news what
- 32:58W welcome to Indian news that's right no
- 33:02no no it's India India the country I'm sanjit marari and this is
- 33:09India news that is the Indian news how did you get a genuine Indian to do the voice for
- 33:16that map well I just asked my password
- 33:20[Laughter] manager you know I actually I met
- 33:27somebody not an Indian but a Filipino person down in Philippines where they
- 33:31also have centers uhuh
- 33:36who had to go to American accent
- 33:41training so that they could pretend they were in America and not being
- 33:45outsourced to a call center in Manila wow
- 33:50yeah well I mean they don't do the best job no offense to them because I mean
- 33:56you know they it's ridiculous that they why why are
- 34:00they bother trying to pretend yeah yeah like it's obvious what happens is no the
- 34:06reason why they do try to pretend is um some people will just straight away go I
- 34:10want to complain yeah about about your
- 34:14accent yeah no he's right they do yep fair enough they hear an accent they go
- 34:19I don't want to talk to you I want to talk to someone else even though that
- 34:22person on the phone can probably help you yeah might be an everything you need
- 34:27because the person you transferred to is a Filipino guy doing an accent yeah
- 34:31that's right howdy partner I heard you got a complain and the thing about normally
- 34:37the person you get transferred to they don't normally have the technical
- 34:41knowledge they have the manager the manager so they can handle a complaint
- 34:45and go yes I understand yes yes yes and then they're going to give it back to
- 34:49the same person to fix it for you reached San McCurry and I I can't really
- 34:53help you with this yeah that's fine yeah I'll beat I'll make sure he's beaten
- 34:58tonight yeah I used to work at a call center if you can't guess uh I did too
- 35:02actually for a short while I didn't have to learn an accent the the irony was
- 35:07that you worked in call centers in Australia filtering calls from India and
- 35:10you had to uh pretend you were Indian which is why Matt you do such a good
- 35:13Indian accent now that's true that is
- 35:18true yeah otherwise they' complain and I'd have to put them on sun okay so I
- 35:23hear you've got a trouble with your unflushable toilet oh you became a
- 35:28robot that wasn't a robot that was that was me trying to do an Indian
- 35:33accent hello I'm still a robot aren't I oh this is you're a little bit
- 35:37of robot it's not too bad it is for me maybe it's maybe it's my
- 35:42connection no no he definitely is a robot but whoa whoa yeah I'm definitely
- 35:47am I still a robot didn't you know I'm finding out a lot of on this
- 35:52podcast about myself while we're waiting for it to come back in TV I just put my
- 35:56new wheelchair in all right I'm going have a look at it
- 36:01I'm going to I'm going to out bid you it usually fixes it that's a good
- 36:06wheelchair he yeah cool no bits so yeah everyone's just watching where is
- 36:13it it's a 4 and 1 half hour drive away for me to pick it up so I'm going to
- 36:17have a very long weekend s is there a certain irony in the fact that you have
- 36:20to go and pick up a wheelchair clearly I'm still a robot cuz
- 36:26that was hilarious can't hear understand a word you're
- 36:30saying at the moment sorry me either okay I've got to I'm just looking at my
- 36:35Skype I've got a request from Doodlebug miss4 she'd like to add me as a contact
- 36:40I add her immediately I don't think I don't think that's Dan that's
- 36:45Dan I mean I wouldn't think so you guys are just going to have to translate my
- 36:51texts the rest of the podcast Dan's going to do the rest of
- 36:55the podcast via text
- 37:00he says he's typing no he stopped typing no he's typing do we want to maybe end
- 37:05the phone call try it again give it a couple of minutes all right thank God Dan he fell
- 37:12off the internet for a bit there yeah I really did maybe I I don't mean to sound
- 37:19melodramatic but that was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me like
- 37:24just the fact that like you guys couldn't hear me or like I had no way of
- 37:28like even saying to you like go on without me because nothing seem to work
- 37:32for a bit I was like totally cut off well just so you know we were prepared
- 37:37to go on without you yes yeah well that's good I'm glad I'm glad you you
- 37:41know were willing to go do that contingency a lot of people go with the
- 37:45whole no Leave No Man Behind we'll leave you behind yeah yeah yeah we figured
- 37:50even look back we thought maybe Singapore sank or something I mean I
- 37:54don't know a whole lot about Singapore I'll be honest is that it is an island
- 37:57so I mean it could sink I mean we all know what happened to uh Atlantis
- 38:02Atlantis yeah is it a is it ahead of it time in the world is it a futuristic
- 38:07city of of Hope and opportunity that that might become a bit uh big too big
- 38:12for its britches and sink into the ocean as your joke but it kind of is a bit
- 38:17like that so um yeah you know all
- 38:22right now if I sound different it's because I'm no longer in a little quiet
- 38:26room anymore so so I'm out in the big room and there are things that make
- 38:29noise here so I apologize if my audio suddenly sounds all right there's things that make
- 38:36noise are singaporeans Dan is that what you call them speaking
- 38:41of which yes they're singaporeans yeah okay cool they want to be racist I
- 38:45thought I thought you meant to you call them [Laughter]
- 38:51things um can I move on to something speaking of
- 38:55singaporeans um So I listened to your podcast from two
- 39:02weeks ago that I was not present for um and enjoyed it immensely as I always do
- 39:07when I've missed out on one and I listen to it back uh and I was I was
- 39:11particularly interested uh when you guys started talking about the book at tea
- 39:15monkey man right oh yeah because obviously book at tea monkey man are a
- 39:19real problem over here you know like in in our daily [Music]
- 39:26lives but you remember how uh a few weeks ago
- 39:32Matt you played us an episode of Terry small shoes new TV show Sasquatch
- 39:38watch well I was flicking through channels here the other night and really
- 39:44late at night just flicking through the local channels and I I noticed that
- 39:48they've actually got a show here that's very similar to Sasquatch watch really
- 39:54yeah and I I taped a bit of it um because I thought you guys might might
- 39:58want to have a a bit of a sample of it yeah all right Matt I've given you the
- 40:03link there is that something you can play for us now yeah yeah I'll queue it
- 40:07up right now just a sec hello and welcome to this week's
- 40:14episode of Sasquatch watch Asia I'm your host fam Sasquatch Hunter Lee
- 40:20smallo on tonight's episode I'll hit deep into the jungles of buet tea where
- 40:26I'll attempt to look K trapped and eventually killed the fame bookie teer
- 40:30monkey man Singapore's very own s Squatch Lee boards the train in
- 40:37Singapore's Central District and prepares to embark on the grueling
- 40:4015minute journey into the Heartland dark jungles of booket tea booket tea isn't
- 40:46so much a jungle as it once was in fact it's mostly private housing businesses
- 40:52and eateries but in the 1.6 square kilm of remaining rough lens there have been
- 40:58several sightings of the legendary monkey man so far only about 100% of
- 41:03those sightings have proven to be false monkeys common in the region and
- 41:08not the monkey man itself the facts don't lie except when they do ticket
- 41:14what oh want to book tea please what
- 41:17about those guys who film CA Oh dma uh
- 41:22can we get a family real pass the crew pulled together their money the between
- 41:27could only collect about half the fair needed to take the entire unit all the
- 41:30way to book at tea yeah it's a bit of a setback but there's always research to
- 41:35be done so I'm going to head back to my parents basement where I work and live
- 41:40and live and we'll regroup from there without even a basic Transportation
- 41:44budget Lee doubts if the money he raised from Kickstarter is really enough to
- 41:48fund the entire 12-part series as he left the station he Amed to himself how
- 41:53he wasn't even sure how he was going to pay the voiceover artist for what oh
- 42:00[Applause] this startlingly similar as you can see
- 42:05that's amazing well I mean it's got a lower budget obviously than Terry does for some some
- 42:11somehow Terry makes it to the pigga scrub every week for the episode right
- 42:16right well he's uh he he's managed to somehow pull together the funding to get
- 42:20over to the himas so yeah oh wow yeah I mean I don't want to say too much but I
- 42:26think he said he's going to try and get me some of the some of the footage to um
- 42:30to if we could air it on this podcast before it goes to TV that would be a
- 42:34real Bo you yeah four for both of us because you know our listeners are are
- 42:40his fans as well I think yeah so that's right yeah so we'll see yeah so I I
- 42:46don't know if there's any legal problems with us playing uh a clip from Sasquatch
- 42:51watch Asia uh I assume it's fine I assume yeah I assume our lawyers go over
- 42:56everything that we put on this podcast yep so y yeah unfortunately it's after
- 43:03it's got out into the world yeah generally
- 43:08speaking uh well we were going to talk uh when we didn't think you were
- 43:13available on the internet anymore we're going to talk briefly about some uh some
- 43:17game stuff did you want to do you want to take us through that Luke well um
- 43:22destiny was a game that Bungie released that was meant to be this great game
- 43:26that everyone's going to love I didn't enjoy it okay mhm I found it very boring
- 43:30what might have made it a bit more interesting for me is if they had a
- 43:34writer from say arrest development working on it okay that seems totally
- 43:40implausible Luke why would they possibly do that I don't know but but this is
- 43:45actually something they did they went out they hired David Cross to come out and write
- 43:51jokes I I see and they're actually just punch it up and make it a bit bit of fun
- 43:57they were going to do they were going to yeah fix up the dialogue for um dinky's
- 44:02character Peter dinklage's character yeah wait they were going to get David
- 44:05Cross to write lines for Peter Dinklage yeah
- 44:10wow but the weird thing is they hiired him flew him out got him to write all
- 44:16the stuff and they used nothing interesting yeah but I can just imagine
- 44:20the kind of jokes that he would have written like if it's what I'm imagining
- 44:25they probably couldn't use any of it yeah censorship I mean right but I might
- 44:31have made that game a bit more interesting for me because all D really
- 44:34did in that game was go here kill that yeah his delivery I mean I don't know if
- 44:39it's his fault or whoever was giving him the the lines to read but it's
- 44:42very flat and you know like not very interesting
- 44:47so I don't know cuz Destiny wasn't really it wasn't a funny game it wasn't a fun
- 44:54game well I enjoyed the time that I they played it but as as was pointed out to
- 45:00me when I just we BR uh brought this up earlier in the weekend I I did stop
- 45:04playing it a long time ago so um and and not that it's not that I got sick of it
- 45:11or anything like that it's I stopped playing it because I didn't have time
- 45:13and then just never thought of it again yeah do people still play it is it still
- 45:18out there oh it's still a very big thing they just even release some more DLC for
- 45:23it and but it's a t it's it's an MMO
- 45:28yeah you go out and then you do the same Mission over and over and over to get
- 45:32better gear to level up to go do another mission yeah yeah and that's not for me
- 45:37it's for some people yeah it might have been fun if we
- 45:41were playing together but we don't true but yeah um I I think I'm if they did
- 45:47have this bit of human in it I might have stayed with it a bit longer than what I did
- 45:53yeah yeah well yeah especially I mean I mean David Cross is a funny guy so yeah
- 45:59and uh he and Brian Pon as well apparently they got out that's such a so
- 46:03strange why wouldn't they use any of the material I assume they paid
- 46:08him well assuming cuz I assume this is one of those things where at kind of a
- 46:14lower level it sounded like a good idea and then when it went to Upper manag Li
- 46:18they were like no way
- 46:21no yeah maybe well like playing the
- 46:25game yeah I can't imagine his him having jokes in there yeah with what I played
- 46:31of it yeah maybe that's what they're like ah I mean it's funny but everything
- 46:35else in this game is so uninteresting it just doesn't work it just stands out as
- 46:41being good and we don't want that here that's right oh and this is some
- 46:47other news that sort of came out this week Peter Mo who uh used to be the
- 46:52former Xbox boss he sort of come out to talk about remember we we all had that
- 46:56big red ring of death with the Xbox 360 yeah oh yes yes come out given a bit of
- 47:02an interview about that and what they went through when they found that out
- 47:06cuz they didn't release that on purpose well you I wouldn't have thought so no
- 47:11that's the type of thing that you don't want out there you mean they weren't
- 47:14just with me specifically that's good to know cuz I went through about three Xbox
- 47:21360s before I finally got one that just worked I eventually eventually
- 47:28had to throw out my Xbox 360 because it it red ringed so many times and they
- 47:33they eventually said nah sorry and I just had to buy another one yeah like
- 47:38that's what happened with me too yeah yeah cuz I think they were very good
- 47:42like they did replace it for a year or two and then they finally went no yeah
- 47:47yeah right which you can sort of understand especially when it cost them 1.15
- 47:53billion wow to fix this yeah
- 47:58that's taking everyone's back shipping
- 48:01fixing them returning them well just I
- 48:05mean yeah sorry but that's what happens when you really when your product
- 48:10doesn't work properly I mean I'm sure I know that they didn't do it on purpose but I
- 48:14mean that's that's just how it is like if you release a product and it
- 48:21doesn't work properly you have to have to pay for it to be
- 48:24fixed yeah essentially how it works you know that's how it should work I
- 48:31think but he he goes on and just explains like cuz he had to go in and
- 48:35talk to the head of Microsoft at time Steve bulmer and go this has happened
- 48:40yeah a bit of a problem and basically if
- 48:44we don't fix this the brand is dead yeah and then he's gone so how much will it
- 48:51be he's gone bit over a billion dollars and he's just going to fix
- 48:55it like no hesitation no anything just
- 49:00fix it cuz yeah if they didn't fix this we wouldn't be playing an Xbox one today
- 49:05no no but I just thought that was quite interesting definitely I also I remember
- 49:11um they mentioned at the top here uh all the various fixes that people put online
- 49:16you know wrapping towels around the Xbox and letting it overheat um that would
- 49:22yeah you know then suddenly it would work again all that kind of stuff I remember all that
- 49:25stuff such a strange who comes up with an IDE honest I think that I think that
- 49:30did work for me for a little while rapper wet tail yeah right yeah I did
- 49:34try that and it and it did start working again for a short
- 49:39time but I'm sorry with something breaks I don't think I'm going to wrap a wet
- 49:43towel around it and turn it back on well some thankfully the internet is there to
- 49:49sort these things out for you Luke so somebody did have that idea so
- 49:53somebody's who just puts wet tails on everything accidentally put one on a red ringed
- 50:00Xbox so the internet also tells people
- 50:03to put iPhones in water yeah that was
- 50:08funny that was very funny
- 50:12idiots oh dear well uh one amusing
- 50:17gaming story I read this week was about
- 50:21um players in a game called Arc survival evolved which is a dinosaur hunting game
- 50:27it's like an MMO sort of thing I believe well it's more like Minecraft I think
- 50:32you can ride a dinosaur yeah it's like sorry it's like Day Z and rust and all
- 50:36that kind of stuff but with Dinosaurs so it's a survival game you jump on and
- 50:39everybody's kind of trying to survive in this world and everybody each
- 50:42other over CU that's how these games end up working mhm yeah so there was a
- 50:49player uh barbaric seagull no sorry barbaric seagull is the person who did
- 50:55this there was a troll uh
- 51:00Ricky his name was Ricky uhuh yeah um and he was he was very well known in the
- 51:05game for being a dick and everyone kind of got sick of him and so as a part of
- 51:10the mechanic in this game you you can be knocked unconscious right yeah but um
- 51:16like you don't die to C raped well the way the mechanics in the game mine goes
- 51:23straight away they got they managed to this guy
- 51:27unconscious in game carry him to a uh a
- 51:32a cage that they had constructed put put him in it lock him
- 51:38in and then basically he'd wake up and they would beat him uh and then actually
- 51:44he he kept trying to kill himself by punching the wall so they would
- 51:47tranquilize him and then feed him um Health until his HP was full again and
- 51:53then just and then just left him in there like that wouldn't let him die
- 51:57exactly so um apparently it took 30 minutes for them to trap him after they
- 52:04uh they informed him that he'd been arrested and and put him in a cage wow
- 52:11uh and and yeah I don't know how long he was in there but he he is out now and
- 52:15apparently he has learned the error of his ways but I just thought this was
- 52:18awesome like yeah just due to the mechanics of the game they would um
- 52:22yeah they they tranquilized him carried him put him in the cage and then
- 52:25wouldn't let him kill him self so basically anytime he logged onto the
- 52:28game he was stuck in the cage what what game is it what online
- 52:34game where there is a prison and it's just an endless desert and you can just
- 52:38be sent there if you do bad you guys know what that is no must
- 52:44been cool one of the other nerd podcasts I uh listen [Music]
- 52:51to
- 52:54Desert game this dream that I just want
- 52:59to read this one comment a lot of people were thought this was funny and were
- 53:03like oh that'll teach him a lesson one person says this is a commenter on on I
- 53:07guess the article on the Forum you are beyond the worst scum in the game Mr
- 53:11seagull that's the guy who built the prison yeah like the absolute worst if
- 53:15the police actively held a man in a one by one by one prison repeatedly
- 53:19tranquilized him and force fed him blood for a reported 10 hours against his will
- 53:24and without trial then yes I would call them scum as well and kick them in the
- 53:29nuts the point stands you are effectively Banning this player for
- 53:32little more than ruining your pixels yeah but no not even gonna no no
- 53:39who cares it's hilarious and it's it's
- 53:43that's great yeah uh other hilarious
- 53:47rants on the internet include uh guy who hates
- 53:52CGI yeah and I I found this video quite entertaining yeah I wonder what you think of it
- 53:59because I I started to watch it and I kind of get what he's coming at but also
- 54:05I don't know look this this guy's basically come out and said movies are
- 54:10now and the reason they're is because CGI is getting better and I
- 54:16think what he's done is he's he's it's a confirmation bias you know what I mean
- 54:20he's noticed that movies are and CGI is getting better and he's right
- 54:26he's done what every great scientist would do in this situation and go on
- 54:29well there must be a correlation uh but there isn't is a very simple reason why
- 54:36movies are being watered down and it's because uh they need to uh appeal to
- 54:40more people so right Studio movies are now going for the lowest common
- 54:44denominator whereas once they used to kind of drive for a certain high
- 54:50brownness that just doesn't exist in modern marketing so uh but he's got a
- 54:56very very uh detailed I guess you'd say
- 55:00um argument here where he Compares um there's a really great part in this
- 55:06video where he compares the the old Hulk with the new Hulk and he says the old
- 55:11Hulk is much better uh because it doesn't look as good as the new Hulk and
- 55:17I put it to you number one that the new Hulk I actually thought was a lot better
- 55:21than the old Hulk I'll say that um right but also my favorite quote from
- 55:27um was um have a look at the frame on the left and the frame on the right
- 55:33which one do you prefer it's actually the one on the left and I was like wait
- 55:38a minute wait wait whoa whoa whoa yeah how is that quantifiable well his his his argument
- 55:44was that uh in the shot on the left
- 55:49which is from the the Eric Banner Hulk the the background behind the Hulk is
- 55:55actual footage of a city I assume that it kind of looks like San Francisco to
- 55:59me I don't know where it is it kind of looks like San Francisco to me but and
- 56:02and that does appear to be true like it is actual footage and and the Hulk has
- 56:06been been popped in there he CGI yeah and then the one on the right which
- 56:11shows the Hulk uh in the Eric Norton Eric Norton Edward Norton I've combined
- 56:17Eric banner and Edward Norton oh that's that's that's their son yeah
- 56:23um you want to watch them ring that
- 56:28in front of a live background Eric norton.com Eric norton.com I hope
- 56:34there's something at Eric norton.com I can hear typing everyone's [Laughter]
- 56:39checking all right we'll sort that out um the one on the right is the Edward
- 56:45Norton Hulk and the background is prob well he doesn't really know burning City
- 56:51yeah it's probably almost entirely CGI and he thinks that that your supension
- 56:56of disbelief is better uh encouraged with the one on the left because it's
- 57:01actually footage of a real thing and your brain knows even though he's
- 57:04presented no scientific evidence for this not that but that's not what the
- 57:08suspension of disbelief is the suspension of disbelief is knowing it's
- 57:12fake and deciding to go with it right it's not tricking your brain into thinking it's
- 57:18real right yeah so I mean I can see
- 57:23there are there is there's some nuggets of of truth and and interesting
- 57:28observations in the video but I think overall he's wrong yeah like it's as you
- 57:34explain there there are a lot of reasons that films are arguably not as good now
- 57:40um and it's I mean saying it's all because of CGI is just silly it's coming
- 57:45down cuz the that's what the audience wants yeah and if a film like people
- 57:51someone in the comments and and and on YouTube and elsewhere have said oh for example
- 57:57I think that the Lord of the Rings films were much better than The Hobbit films
- 58:01because The Hobbit films used way more CGI and I'm like well I agree with that
- 58:05but not because not just because they use CGI I think because the CGI was used
- 58:11in stupid ways but not only that the Lord of the Rings films were much better
- 58:15than The Hobbit films because there were much better
- 58:18films take all the effects out there're still better movies well you take all
- 58:22the effects out of the hob there's no film I haven't actually watched this but
- 58:26just been streaming across in the background but he uses RoboCop as an
- 58:30example of how movies gotten worse yeah that was just made for a different
- 58:34audience yeah exactly right and all movies now are made from a different
- 58:37audience than they used to be yeah yeah like the original robotex or Robo
- 58:43Robotech RoboCop were R-rated lowbudget
- 58:48movies yeah exactly and then the new one was made
- 58:53for teenagers yeah yeah yeah well I I mean it was an
- 59:00interesting video and like I said I did find some stuff in there that I was like
- 59:03maybe I kind of agree with you there but overall I think he's
- 59:07just just made some people lazier with making um what is it the that Facebook
- 59:14movie yeah exactly right we discussed a few weeks ago where they just instead of
- 59:18just making a sign that said where they were oh social network yeah yeah social
- 59:24network cuz they in a different School they got CGI to replace all the name
- 59:29well one of the special effects in The Social Network cuz I mean there there
- 59:32were like you said it's a ridiculous number of special effects in that movie
- 59:35for what it was which is just a film with people talking a lot
- 59:38almost and one of the special effects that people really really panned in it
- 59:41is there's a scene where um it's it's Mark Zuckerberg and um uh the other
- 59:48guy's name escapes me it doesn't matter they're outside talking it's very cold
- 59:51and the the the Mist like not Mist but you know the steam from you the
- 59:57breath yeah is ridiculous like it's
- 1:00:02really is and so but I mean and also because they were supposed to they're
- 1:00:06supposed to be in a film in Connecticut but they're actually shooting it in
- 1:00:09California where it's not cold so they put in some CGI Frosty breath but they
- 1:00:15could have just left it out and no one would have question because the actor's
- 1:00:17performance is actually pretty good in that in that scene like they look like
- 1:00:20they're cold but theous breath yeah so
- 1:00:25look I mean here the thing saying that movies are worse
- 1:00:29because of CGI is like saying that music is worse because of synthesizers you
- 1:00:35know what I mean like sure if you don't like that kind of music then yeah you'll
- 1:00:40think it's worse but it's not because of that it's because your taste is
- 1:00:43different yeah sure I agree and and yeah like he uses uh King Kong as an example
- 1:00:49of where uh the film see I'm not quite sure exactly what his point was the fact
- 1:00:55that that the actors were comped in on in front of fake backgrounds made the
- 1:00:59film bad like I I thought King The King Kong remake was pretty good personally
- 1:01:04so did I and not only that go back and watch the Old King Kong now right oh
- 1:01:09yeah right and you tell me if that still looks great because I'm telling
- 1:01:12you now it doesn't it looks like f Ray is in a huge mechanical hand that
- 1:01:17doesn't move right and then in the next
- 1:01:20shot it's a like a stop motion doll
- 1:01:25right yeah yeah and then it's closeups out of context yeah it's so you're
- 1:01:30saying it so you're saying it looks like what it is exactly
- 1:01:34right yeah yeah well and that sort of
- 1:01:39brings me to this next article yeah uh about CGI sort of Um Zack Snider has
- 1:01:46finally I guess responded to um criticisms about Man of Steel
- 1:01:51where people said Superman wouldn't allow a city to be
- 1:01:56destroyed like like it did in the in the film cuz the whole point is that he's
- 1:02:01supposed to try and save people and a lot of people killed a lot of people
- 1:02:05yeah and so he's come out and said oh well I mean uh that I didn't think
- 1:02:10people would be annoyed about that uh and we address it in Batman versus
- 1:02:14Superman oh okay like apparently in Batman vers Superman uh the reason that
- 1:02:19lik Superman is because he destroyed a whole City and and and injured a
- 1:02:23bunch of people and in particular that's Batman's issue is with him so I mean and
- 1:02:28that's all well and good but that doesn't I mean I think he is he is kind
- 1:02:32of using that to avoid the greater issue which was that it wasn't a very good
- 1:02:36movie yeah well that's right like my issues with Man of Steel weren't just
- 1:02:42necessarily they destroyed the whole city it's just that that happening was
- 1:02:46boring yeah and I'll say by the time it got to that scene I was already well
- 1:02:51bored yeah I was so bored I haven't even
- 1:02:55watched it yet I think it's and like I we've talked about this
- 1:03:00before like I feel like the action in in Man of Steel was just so mind-numbing
- 1:03:05and ridiculous yeah like and and kind of I guess this relates to that guy's
- 1:03:11article in that you they wouldn't have made a movie like this without the CGI
- 1:03:16because they would have been able to because you couldn't right and and my
- 1:03:19suspension of disbelief just wasn't having it CU it was just ridiculous yeah
- 1:03:24but that on every level to I mean in the the first scene of the first Christopher
- 1:03:30ree Richard Donna Superman movie right
- 1:03:33where um jorel is putting Kalel in the craft and sending him to Earth and it's
- 1:03:40this beautiful poetic scene and it goes for about 4 minutes and in this one it's
- 1:03:46Russell Crow instead of mar and Brando it goes for 25 to 30 minutes and he's
- 1:03:50riding the dragon and kicking ass and it's like that is not more interesting
- 1:03:55that is way less interesting I know why you think it's more interesting but
- 1:03:59you're wrong yeah yeah well I mean I think there are some people who think
- 1:04:04it's more interesting and maybe there were I mean clearly there were enough of
- 1:04:07them that made enough money that it's fine but for us and I I absolutely agree
- 1:04:12with you the the scene from the original is so memorable yeah and to be honest I
- 1:04:18I mean I remember bits about the the new the Man of Steel intro and I remember
- 1:04:22that looked cool at first but then I was like oh man
- 1:04:27like just nobody's in any danger when when all that shit's going on like it's
- 1:04:32like the bigger issue with with the ending where the whole city got
- 1:04:35destroyed and we just never saw the fact that these people were dying was just
- 1:04:39that it it's meaningless like Superman knocks down a
- 1:04:45skyscraper right but if we don't see or know that there's people in there even
- 1:04:49though we do because people said afterwards of course they were full of
- 1:04:51people they killed those people yeah but we didn't see any of that so it's like
- 1:04:55it's like there's no no one's in any danger it's not interesting or or tense
- 1:05:00or anything it's a it's a guy who can't die punching another guy who can't die
- 1:05:05like I don't know that's why I'm I'm not a fan of Superman mainly because of that
- 1:05:12well I mean his the best argument for that would be well that's Superman and I
- 1:05:17would say yeah okay fair enough like you did what you could Superman's
- 1:05:20boring yeah well he is a little bit he he is a bit boring yeah
- 1:05:26he can do everything and he can't die you know who's not boring though Batman
- 1:05:31and now they're combining the two and did you guys know this because I don't
- 1:05:34think we've discussed this on the podcast right but you know Batman v
- 1:05:37Superman's coming out right yeah yeah yep if that does well at the box office
- 1:05:43and I'm sure it will then they've already pre greenit
- 1:05:49the new Batman Solo movie Next it's called the Batman
- 1:05:56and it's going to be directed by Ben
- 1:06:01Affleck ah um but I I find that kind of interesting because the other two movies
- 1:06:07that Ben affect has directed uh the town
- 1:06:10and Argo we're both really good
- 1:06:14yeah H okay this great movie
- 1:06:21interesting well they're going cuz they want to do Justice League yes I think I
- 1:06:26I think Studios want to do justice league and they're obviously moving
- 1:06:29towards that by doing their own thing basically they want a Marvel Universe
- 1:06:33with the DC cast yeah right oh but but I have a feeling that Ben Affleck signed
- 1:06:38on to do Zack cider's shitty Batman v Superman because he's got a vision of
- 1:06:44how he wants to do his own Batman well look I'll say this uh I haven't what's
- 1:06:49the other one you mentioned that he direct okay I haven't seen the town I've
- 1:06:52seen Argo and yeah that was really good but it was not one of these films it was
- 1:06:57definitely not like Man of Steel or or like I think they're moving away from Man of
- 1:07:04Steel I don't know that's I don't know I just a feeling I get they're going more
- 1:07:10from a movie I haven't seen I think they're basically starting fresh with Superman V
- 1:07:16Batman well they that's going to be the start of their Universe well the problem
- 1:07:20with that is from from the article that I've put in here the the plot of versus
- 1:07:26Superman heavily heavily relies on what happened in is that Batman's pissed off
- 1:07:30and comes and tells Superman to go back to his own country right because one of
- 1:07:34the buildings that was destroyed in in Man of Steel was a was a Wayne
- 1:07:39Enterprises building and he knew people who work there and they're dead now wait
- 1:07:43a minute wait a minute so it's personal it's not just that he's morally against
- 1:07:47it yes well that's even more
- 1:07:51that's what Ben Affleck said uh hang on a minute where is the
- 1:07:56quote one of the okay this Ben affle one of the things I liked about Zach's idea
- 1:08:01of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that
- 1:08:03there are real people in those buildings and in fact one of those buildings was
- 1:08:07Bruce Wayne's building so he knew people who died in that black zero event is
- 1:08:11what they call it right black zero yeah I don't know
- 1:08:17man look I'm still going to watch it yeah there's no way I'm not going to
- 1:08:22watch it I'm probably this is where I'm going to start watching
- 1:08:26super I haven't seen a Superman movie since Christopher
- 1:08:29Reef yeah well you haven't missed a lot that's what I've heard but this time
- 1:08:36I might go back cuz I I do like Batman probably the only character I
- 1:08:41like out of the DC Universe so this might be might be stepping stone to May
- 1:08:46getting into you'll be eating your words when the Martian Manhunter movie comes [Laughter]
- 1:08:52out cuz they're like I play all the Lego games and I've played Lego Batman games
- 1:08:56and a lot of the characters in there I'm just I have no connection to these
- 1:09:02characters yeah Batman's The Riddler
- 1:09:09yeah although I am thinking about dressing as the Riddler for packs this
- 1:09:13year oh please do that would be awesome the 1960s Riddler do it in the in the
- 1:09:18onesie in the onesie onesie I love it I watched the uh
- 1:09:24please do that please I beg you do that it may happen I
- 1:09:28don't want to commit to anything just yet well you just did live on this
- 1:09:33podcast that's pre-recorded I will be the Riddler at packs nice yes I do
- 1:09:38love I watched the old film the uh the Batman movie from the 60s recently and
- 1:09:44Riddler is wearing like a green suit and he's looking pretty sharp and then he
- 1:09:50goes to the lair and puts on the onesie look like his house clothes yeah
- 1:09:57right casual what I'm so fixated about that movie and about the old series that
- 1:10:01I just never noticed when I was a kid is I just can't stop looking at Caesar
- 1:10:07Romero's mustache that's painted
- 1:10:11over what do you know yes the Joker has
- 1:10:16a big bushy mustache cuz Caesar Romero refused to shave it off and they just
- 1:10:20paint the Joker makeup over it I don't think I've even noticed let me have a look
- 1:10:26let me have a look oh man
- 1:10:31I know this where you go this is where you go sorry we're going to go
- 1:10:37find someone else yeah shave the mustache if you want the job
- 1:10:43yeah oh man I need to watch this show now I didn't even I mean obviously as a
- 1:10:48kid I just didn't even think of it but looks awful yeah I bet these I bet
- 1:10:55these look awesome on Blu-ray is this available on
- 1:10:59Blu-ray it was meant to be I I forgot to check I was kind of holding out for it
- 1:11:03and then it just kind of slipped under the
- 1:11:08radar B man Blu-ray there are some that you can watch online I watched the episode with
- 1:11:15Bruce Lee in it at some point last year oh when I was on a Bruce Lee
- 1:11:21kick there is a box set awesome so I
- 1:11:26will be looking for that oh and I will be I will be dressed
- 1:11:31at dressed up at packs this year as well I'm not going to say what it is yet
- 1:11:35it'll be a surprise does it also involve a onesie uh no I'll try and think of
- 1:11:41something that does for one of the days though because Luke's going to look
- 1:11:44pretty sexy in his one I know so you're going to have to sex it up well I'm
- 1:11:49going to have to wear something that kind of conceals the erection that I'm
- 1:11:53going to have from walking around with Luke as he's a onesie that's the problem
- 1:11:56with a onesie it's not very erection friendly no no no that's ask that's that
- 1:12:03problem have it the conventions all the time also I'll just let you know now you
