- 0:24Speaker 3: The world's a big pok.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. For Patriots fans, I'm telling you
- 0:36Speaker 1: you should take some comfort in that too, just my advice.
- 0:39Speaker 4: I'd love to tell you how you should.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Yeah, how do you think.
- 0:41Speaker 5: Big Jim is going to get an Atlanta Falcons hood?
- 0:43Speaker 1: You to kind of.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Troll the I know you get your feelings shirt on
- 0:47Speaker 4: these things. A Google search of Brighton Spice's junk.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I have seen Paul starts grilling it. Have you seen yes?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Have you seen SOA?
- 0:57Speaker 4: Yeah? I don't not just go.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I don't get that party to be a magician's assistant.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I found out yesterday morning that he's into magic, and
- 1:05Speaker 1: I am too. We wouldn't just be able to talk
- 1:07Speaker 1: about music. We could talk about magic man, we could
- 1:10Speaker 1: do the trade and then we could talk about it.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I'm more of a gadget eye, like close up magic
- 1:15Speaker 1: type of stuff. You didn't have a magician name picked
- 1:17Speaker 1: out yet. What was Jake Steele back then too? When
- 1:20Speaker 1: the points centers give you such a big spread nine
- 1:23Speaker 1: and a half in the playoffs, you have to clear. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: the sharps know something.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Right, are you're going to make a pick or not?
- 1:30Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:36Speaker 6: dot com.
- 1:39Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:42Speaker 1: at Jills Stadium and the Gerrodmeo era continues. We're all
- 1:49Speaker 1: on the watch to see who he's hiring. We know
- 1:52Speaker 1: he's been interviewing or at least scheduling interviews with a
- 1:55Speaker 1: lot of people, and maybe Evan, who's been keeping up
- 1:59Speaker 1: with that, will fill in what he knows so far.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But yeah, defensive coordinators, offensive coordinators.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Special teams coordinators.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So you know, we'll see what's going on there. But
- 2:14Speaker 1: you know, it's everyone's kind of on pins and needles
- 2:17Speaker 1: to see what happens with his staff. Not just us,
- 2:20Speaker 1: but people who are on the staff currently are interested
- 2:24Speaker 1: to find out Am I staying? Am I going? Do
- 2:27Speaker 1: I want to stay? Do I want to go? Yeah?
- 2:30Speaker 4: Who you think would be in that position?
- 2:34Speaker 1: All the trainers, all the nutrition is all.
- 2:37Speaker 4: That you met? Coaches? Yeah, yeah, no, that's true. You're
- 2:40Speaker 4: right about that.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And I would say every coach too.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I ain't most of them kind of have an idea.
- 2:44Speaker 4: It looks like, you know, and I'll give the floor
- 2:47Speaker 4: to Evan with the ins and outs, but it looks
- 2:51Speaker 4: like DeMarcus Covington I think has a a lot of
- 2:54Speaker 4: people seem to think that he's got an inside track
- 2:56Speaker 4: for the defense for the Okay.
- 2:59Speaker 7: Yeah, I would agree with that. I think warranted. You know,
- 3:03Speaker 7: he interviewed the last couple cycles for other teams defensive
- 3:07Speaker 7: coordinators last year with Arizona I believe it was. And
- 3:10Speaker 7: so he's a name that's that's been on a lot
- 3:12Speaker 7: of lists around the NFL. You know, Tom Pelaso does
- 3:15Speaker 7: that yearly list of up and coming coaches and he's
- 3:18Speaker 7: been on it a couple of years in a row.
- 3:20Speaker 7: So I could definitely see him being the defensive coordinator.
- 3:23Speaker 7: And I think a lot of these interviews, if you
- 3:26Speaker 7: look at some of the other ones like Tim Lubika,
- 3:28Speaker 7: Christian Parker, those guys has come being interviewed for the
- 3:33Speaker 7: DC job, but to actually be position coaches, kind of
- 3:37Speaker 7: like what they did with Adrian Klem, I think would
- 3:39Speaker 7: make a lot of sense just based off of their backgrounds.
- 3:42Speaker 7: You know, guy like Tim Lubaca can be the linebackers coach,
- 3:45Speaker 7: Parker can coach the secondary and maybe start to fill
- 3:48Speaker 7: out the staff a little bit that way. So I
- 3:51Speaker 7: think that there's some of those guys on the defense
- 3:53Speaker 7: side of the ball if you look at them as
- 3:55Speaker 7: more interviewing for position coach roles instead of actual defensive
- 3:58Speaker 7: coordinators views, and it makes a lot more sense.
- 4:02Speaker 8: You know.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I guess we're jumping right into it. I think it's
- 4:04Speaker 1: interesting that the Belichick boys have been told, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: if you want to stay, you can stay. But Steve
- 4:12Speaker 1: hasn't interviewed for the DC job as far as I know, No.
- 4:17Speaker 7: Not not reported on publicly. Mike Reas did. I don't
- 4:20Speaker 7: know if it was informed opinion from Mike. I guess
- 4:24Speaker 7: it's the best way to put it. Did say that
- 4:26Speaker 7: he could be in line for like an assistant to
- 4:28Speaker 7: the head coach type of role instead.
- 4:31Speaker 4: If he were to stay, if you were to stay
- 4:33Speaker 4: instead of find that odd, No, because there was a
- 4:37Speaker 4: reason why they weren't making him the defensive coordinator.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I thought it was just because Bill was kind of
- 4:42Speaker 1: afraid of the optics.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I think it had more to do with his sort
- 4:46Speaker 4: of presence.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Okay, I've heard that like Girod was the guy that
- 4:51Speaker 1: had to deliver the message. He controlled the room, where
- 4:54Speaker 1: Steve was more of an introvert, you.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Know, and behind the scenes, you know, you know, doctor
- 5:00Speaker 4: a game plan or whatever. I think he probably had value,
- 5:03Speaker 4: but maybe not the whole defensive coordinator package.
- 5:06Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair to say. I was
- 5:08Speaker 7: talking to old friend Devin mccordy, and he was saying
- 5:12Speaker 7: that Gerard would get to the front of the room
- 5:14Speaker 7: and he would present like the mentality of the game plan,
- 5:18Speaker 7: like what we have to do to you know, we
- 5:20Speaker 7: got to be physical, we got to be this, and
- 5:21Speaker 7: he'd be like the motivator and then Steve would come
- 5:24Speaker 7: in and he would give the calls and how that
- 5:27Speaker 7: is going to mimic you know what Gerard would say,
- 5:29Speaker 7: And he said it was weird, but it just worked
- 5:32Speaker 7: like it for whatever reason like the two of them
- 5:34Speaker 7: together just it was perfect for both of their personalities
- 5:38Speaker 7: that Gerard could be the motivator, he could be the
- 5:41Speaker 7: raw rock kind of guy, and then Steve could be
- 5:43Speaker 7: the x's and o's guy. And it just worked for
- 5:46Speaker 7: those two guys together. So I wouldn't be surprised if
- 5:49Speaker 7: Gerard is making a strong pitch try to keep Steve
- 5:51Speaker 7: her out.
- 5:52Speaker 8: Okay, I think he's going to wait to see, like
- 5:54Speaker 8: where his dad ends up going.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Well, that's what I heard is doing.
- 5:58Speaker 4: I think it's pretty clear at this point because if
- 6:00Speaker 4: he wasn't, if it had nothing to do with Bill,
- 6:03Speaker 4: then I think we'd know whether or not they were staying.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And you bring up Bill, and the latest word is
- 6:09Speaker 1: there's no certainty that he's going to be coaching this
- 6:13Speaker 1: year right now. It seems like Atlanta is the only
- 6:17Speaker 1: suitor at this point and that Arthur Blank really wants him,
- 6:22Speaker 1: but the layers of executives that he has below them
- 6:25Speaker 1: are kind of tentative about it, you know, so that's
- 6:29Speaker 1: an issue. I do have a theory though about the Dallas.
- 6:35Speaker 4: First theory at twelve oh six, No.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Because you know it came out, you know, obviously everyone thought, oh,
- 6:42Speaker 1: Dallas won and done, they're going to fire McCarthy and
- 6:46Speaker 1: Bill's gonna slide right in. They were one and done.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But they didn't fire McCarthy, you know. And there there
- 6:54Speaker 1: was reports that they did kind of reach out to
- 6:56Speaker 1: Bill and Bill said he wasn't interested.
- 6:58Speaker 4: I didn't see those Oh you see that.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I saw that, and I started thinking about, like, why
- 7:05Speaker 1: wouldn't he be interested? And possibly, you know, Bill has
- 7:09Speaker 1: this whole thing, you know, he honors the fraternity of coaches,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know, and I wonder if, like he said to
- 7:15Speaker 1: the Cowboys, right, you have a head coach, I'm not
- 7:18Speaker 1: going to talk to you while he's employed. If he wasn't,
- 7:22Speaker 1: if you had a vacancy, I'd be happy to talk
- 7:24Speaker 1: to you, but I'm not going to undermine an existing
- 7:27Speaker 1: head coach and start interviewing for a job that's already filled.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I could see Bill saying that if they did reach
- 7:34Speaker 1: out to him. Now, I don't know if the report's true,
- 7:36Speaker 1: but I could see Bill saying I'm not going to
- 7:38Speaker 1: talk until there's an opening.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Yeah. I could see Bill thinking that way. I absolutely could,
- 7:43Speaker 4: But I don't think that's why he's not the coach,
- 7:44Speaker 4: of the Dallas Cowboys. That's an easy one. Okay, Yeah, Okay,
- 7:49Speaker 4: he's out. Now are you interested? Like, that's a pretty
- 7:53Speaker 4: simple you make make a vacancy. That's the thing that's
- 7:56Speaker 4: stopping talking.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But Jerry Jones might be like, oh, I don't want
- 7:58Speaker 1: to fire him til I'm sure I want to get you,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and Bill's like, I'm not going through that predict while
- 8:02Speaker 1: he's got the job.
- 8:03Speaker 4: But if you're forget about the interview part, because I
- 8:05Speaker 4: totally agree that would be inappropriate, first of all, be wrong,
- 8:09Speaker 4: just flat out wrong.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:11Speaker 4: But if you're Jerry Jones and you just say to Bill, yeah,
- 8:15Speaker 4: I'm gonna make a move, would you be interested, I'm
- 8:20Speaker 4: not going to give you the answer to that until
- 8:21Speaker 4: you make a move like that doesn't make it.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah, But Jerry doesn't know he's going to make that
- 8:24Speaker 1: amount until.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Like, to me, the amount of obvious excuse making going
- 8:31Speaker 4: around the league for the fact that Bill only has
- 8:33Speaker 4: one team interested in him is really kind of eye opening.
- 8:37Speaker 8: It.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I would have thought that Bill would be one of
- 8:38Speaker 4: those guys that hasn't garnered a lot of goodwill with
- 8:43Speaker 4: the media, But Chef's fallen all over himself Florio's falling
- 8:47Speaker 4: all over himself, but just openly mocking the rest of
- 8:50Speaker 4: the league for not being more interested in Bill Belichick,
- 8:54Speaker 4: seemingly ignoring the fact that he's going to be seventy two.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's the thing.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Of course, It's the thing. If it was ten years ago,
- 9:00Speaker 4: he wouldn't be having this cock talk, right, he would
- 9:02Speaker 4: he would have easily gotten a job.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah, That's that's the thing. Is like teams are like,
- 9:07Speaker 1: how long are we going to have them? Yeah?
- 9:09Speaker 7: I think that's what the issue is with Atlanta is
- 9:12Speaker 7: that you know, Rich McKay and uh footnote their their
- 9:15Speaker 7: general manager looking at and they're like, so I'm gonna
- 9:18Speaker 7: give up my power and potentially my job because he
- 9:21Speaker 7: might muscle me out for two years for three years,
- 9:24Speaker 7: Like why you know? That's that's crazy. And and these
- 9:27Speaker 7: teams are are sticking to their guns. And I'm sure
- 9:30Speaker 7: Bill is too, saying I'm not gonna I'm only doing
- 9:33Speaker 7: it if it's this way. I'm I'm not reporting to
- 9:35Speaker 7: some CEO who's never you know, doesn't hold my water,
- 9:40Speaker 7: right Like, I'm gonna report directly to the owner.
- 9:43Speaker 4: And that's it.
- 9:44Speaker 7: And I think that in Atlanta they're they're saying, no,
- 9:47Speaker 7: we have a chain of command. You know, we we
- 9:49Speaker 7: have a setup here.
- 9:50Speaker 4: So, like I said, he may not be coaching this year,
- 9:54Speaker 4: and I think that would be better for the Patriots.
- 9:56Speaker 4: First of all, it's gonna make Patriots fans feel better
- 9:58Speaker 4: to not have to watch them code somewhere else. Yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 4: that's the emotional part of it. But the practical side
- 10:04Speaker 4: is what Evan talked about. I think that drastically increases
- 10:07Speaker 4: your chances of retaining Steve and keeping that dynamic going
- 10:12Speaker 4: within the Patriots defense.
- 10:14Speaker 8: It'll be interesting for the Falcons. I think obviously Harbaugh
- 10:16Speaker 8: is going to go to the Chargers, but I think,
- 10:19Speaker 8: why do you say.
- 10:19Speaker 1: That, because why not the Falcons.
- 10:22Speaker 8: He's Rabel's also interviewing for the Falcons, so maybe they'll
- 10:25Speaker 8: go with Okay.
- 10:26Speaker 7: Maybe maybe there was like the Falcons want to go
- 10:29Speaker 7: with like Ben Johnson, Mike McDonald, like one of these
- 10:33Speaker 7: young up and comers.
- 10:35Speaker 4: But it is interesting that they had three heavy I mean,
- 10:37Speaker 4: in my opinion, three heavy hitters.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 8: Absolutely, And so I was just looking at it, I'm like, well,
- 10:42Speaker 8: if you couldn't get Bill because he's seventy two or
- 10:44Speaker 8: going to be seventy two. What if you get Rabel
- 10:46Speaker 8: who came from his tree, but he's younger, and yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 8: like almost Bill or someone that could be Bill.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I don't know, Yeah, a younger version.
- 10:55Speaker 4: But I kind of agree with to Samara, I think
- 10:57Speaker 4: it seems like the Chargers want Harbor.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I agree with that too, And it makes sense. He's
- 11:02Speaker 1: an offensive minded guy, quarter great for Herbert, you know.
- 11:07Speaker 7: And a good program builder. And that's what could they
- 11:10Speaker 7: kind of need. They need some stability and and some
- 11:13Speaker 7: some foundation being laid. But I just with Bill. It's
- 11:17Speaker 7: not like I don't want to make it sound like
- 11:21Speaker 7: a victory lap, right, but at some.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Respects I have a little of that going on.
- 11:26Speaker 7: He's seventy two years old, he's coming off a four
- 11:29Speaker 7: and thirteen season. The Patriots fell apart or under his
- 11:33Speaker 7: watch over the last three or four years. And good
- 11:37Speaker 7: for the rest of the league, Like, good for the
- 11:38Speaker 7: rest of the league for recognizing that you are hiring
- 11:42Speaker 7: this version of Bill Belichick. You're not hiring the Bill
- 11:45Speaker 7: Belichick from ten years ago, who.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Is unless has unless Bill has a story privately about
- 11:51Speaker 1: why things went bad. Oh I'm sure he had.
- 11:54Speaker 4: But good on the people that are doing the hiring
- 11:56Speaker 4: to not buy it, Evans.
- 11:59Speaker 7: Yeah, the reason why you're hiring Bill Belichick at this point,
- 12:02Speaker 7: he's a great coach, But the reason why you're really
- 12:04Speaker 7: doing it is because of the publicity, right, because of
- 12:08Speaker 7: how much it's going to bring attention to your organization.
- 12:12Speaker 7: And for a team like Atlanta, who's second fiddle in
- 12:15Speaker 7: their own market to a college football team that could
- 12:18Speaker 7: bring some of that cachet, some of that sure, bravado,
- 12:21Speaker 7: but everybody else seems to be like, thanks, but no thanks.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And I think it. I understand it. We understand it
- 12:29Speaker 4: more than probably anybody. So Evans, Evan's trying to stay
- 12:33Speaker 4: humble even though he's not really being humble. That's my
- 12:35Speaker 4: favorite thing to do. He was right, how's the first
- 12:40Speaker 4: round pick coming that the Patriots are going to get
- 12:42Speaker 4: for Belichick?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Oh?
- 12:43Speaker 4: I think first a first round pick for him? You
- 12:46Speaker 4: can't even get hired right now. And there was like
- 12:48Speaker 4: seven jobs, that's true, Like first round pick for a
- 12:52Speaker 4: seventy two year old coach.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I mean there's like what five openings right now as.
- 12:56Speaker 8: We say, yeah, Panthers, Washington, well, the Titans gonna be right, Panthers, Washington, Falcons, Chargers.
- 13:05Speaker 8: I'm missing.
- 13:06Speaker 1: There's one more Commanders, You've got them.
- 13:11Speaker 4: The Buffalo Bills. But anyway, I actually think that he
- 13:15Speaker 4: saved himself. But I mean, those those two were the
- 13:18Speaker 4: ones I was watching, Buffalo and Philly, and it looks
- 13:21Speaker 4: like both of them are gonna end up staying.
- 13:23Speaker 1: But you know, those teams might be waiting for Detroit
- 13:27Speaker 1: to get knocked out or their season to end because
- 13:31Speaker 1: they want to hire Ben Johnson, you know, so there
- 13:34Speaker 1: could be people that are still involved in playoffs that
- 13:37Speaker 1: teams are waiting on.
- 13:38Speaker 7: That definitely sounds like the case in Washington. Washington, I
- 13:41Speaker 7: think is going to throw a whole lot of money
- 13:43Speaker 7: at Ben Johnson as soon as that.
- 13:45Speaker 9: Or maybe they'll try to make the enemy their head coach.
- 13:49Speaker 4: I think that that's an unfortunate interview that was done
- 13:52Speaker 4: for the wrong reasons.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But Washington, So that's uh, that's the coaching carousel. The games,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I thought they were a lot better games than they
- 14:03Speaker 1: were the week before.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Really, yeah, yeah, three and a half great games?
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah really?
- 14:07Speaker 4: I mean no, I mean, like the first half of
- 14:09Speaker 4: the Buffalo the Baltimore game was was good, and then
- 14:12Speaker 4: Baltimore showed you why they're the top seed, but the
- 14:16Speaker 4: other the other three games were great wide right, how
- 14:20Speaker 4: about that though, But I'm just going by the game
- 14:23Speaker 4: like the game was terrific.
- 14:25Speaker 1: That was part of making it terrific for me.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Oh Like, I think they would have lost either way.
- 14:29Speaker 1: That's probably right because.
- 14:31Speaker 4: They couldn't stop them. Buffleto didn't stop Kansas City all day,
- 14:33Speaker 4: Kandsasy didn't stop Buffalo all day. They put they punt
- 14:37Speaker 4: once or twice each. Yeah, I just.
- 14:38Speaker 7: Love the the Monday morning quarterbacking with Josh Allen on
- 14:43Speaker 7: the final drive, It's like, if Chris Jones isn't in
- 14:46Speaker 7: his lap, then the second down throws a touchdown, right,
- 14:49Speaker 7: and then we're talking like what are we talking about here?
- 14:51Speaker 4: Because when you are so insanely jealous of other teams
- 14:56Speaker 4: that are actually good, yeah, that's what you resorted to.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Now you watch watch the rip job that Mahomes will
- 15:03Speaker 4: get this week because everybody will, like last week it
- 15:07Speaker 4: was kind of half and half. I hate Buffalo in
- 15:09Speaker 4: Kansas City equally, this week everybody will be rooting against
- 15:14Speaker 4: Kansas City here. I'm talking about here, not nationwide the Swifties,
- 15:18Speaker 4: but here, everybody will be rooting against Mahomes because he's
- 15:21Speaker 4: not as good as Tom.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Or we got to keep him from being the goat.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Correct, right, But it's so transparent.
- 15:27Speaker 1: The I'm not transparent about it, You're not. I mean,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I'm transparent about it.
- 15:34Speaker 4: If that's what I said, I.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Want you.
- 15:39Speaker 4: But you know the difference between you in most what
- 15:42Speaker 4: you don't say that Mahomes sucks. You want to achieve
- 15:46Speaker 4: as much as Tom.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Exactly he won, and I don't want the chance to
- 15:51Speaker 1: achieve as much as the Patriots.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I mean, the chances are overwhelmingly against that. But it
- 15:56Speaker 4: doesn't mean he's not great. It doesn't mean he's not
- 15:59Speaker 4: just as great.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Like fabricating reasons to root against teams.
- 16:03Speaker 7: The problem, sure, the problem for Mahomes can't stand is
- 16:08Speaker 7: that his two other pillars are going to retire. You know,
- 16:11Speaker 7: any Read and Travis Kelcey are not in it for
- 16:13Speaker 7: the long call. Travis Kelcey is. Some are saying that
- 16:16Speaker 7: he might retire after this year.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, just to get married as well as Red.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Yeah. Talks about it every year, So one of these
- 16:24Speaker 4: years he's going to do it.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 7: Yeah, So what happens to Mahomes? All time great player?
- 16:30Speaker 7: But what happens to the Chiefs team. So if he
- 16:33Speaker 7: if no Kelsey and no Reed.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Let's go to Tamara's Eric b enemy for them.
- 16:38Speaker 7: If he, yeah, well they but they brought Matt naggy back.
- 16:41Speaker 7: I think with the intention of trying to organize a
- 16:45Speaker 7: succession plan to Matt Nagy what I would take the
- 16:49Speaker 7: enemy over Matt naked. But I'm just saying that that's
- 16:51Speaker 7: what it looks like at least, but it certainly does.
- 16:54Speaker 7: The enemy going back there as the offensive coordinator again
- 16:57Speaker 7: or something like that would would would definitely make a
- 16:59Speaker 7: lot of sense.
- 17:00Speaker 9: Yeah, or maybe he can come here and be the
- 17:02Speaker 9: offensive coordinator.
- 17:03Speaker 4: But I do love those those games, and it's kind
- 17:07Speaker 4: of stinks for me. It was like the the Rams
- 17:09Speaker 4: and Lions game two weeks ago, whereas like I just
- 17:12Speaker 4: find myself wanting the team to score every time. I'm
- 17:14Speaker 4: like wanting Kansas City and Buffalo to score every time.
- 17:17Speaker 4: I just want I want to I wanted to watch
- 17:19Speaker 4: those two guys like just continue to make play after
- 17:22Speaker 4: play after play, Like.
- 17:23Speaker 1: That one play, that one throw that Diggs didn't come up.
- 17:27Speaker 4: With its seventy yards in the air, Like right, That's
- 17:31Speaker 4: what I said to Deuce. I said, who do you
- 17:33Speaker 4: think is happier right now? You for digs dropping that
- 17:36Speaker 4: bomb or Evan because prety poop just pants almost almost.
- 17:42Speaker 4: He rescued it though when the game was on the
- 17:45Speaker 4: line he did he was he was balls good job
- 17:48Speaker 4: by Kyle.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Off All.
- 17:52Speaker 4: See.
- 17:52Speaker 7: That's like the beauty of the of the argument though,
- 17:54Speaker 7: is that I can be right either way because if
- 17:56Speaker 7: party plays.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Well and he's learning something from you set yourself up
- 18:01Speaker 4: to be right either way. That's the way it works. Great,
- 18:03Speaker 4: great last.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And Jordan love. You know, he's getting close into a
- 18:08Speaker 1: pump and still needs, you know, a little bit more.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I like that.
- 18:12Speaker 8: I like the way he turned his season around though,
- 18:14Speaker 8: Like I feel like at the beginning of season everyone
- 18:16Speaker 8: was like, oh my god, it's horrible, what do they do?
- 18:17Speaker 1: But then he I think he's got a break.
- 18:19Speaker 4: So of one of two things happens to Green Bay
- 18:21Speaker 4: next year, either they go like thirteen and four and
- 18:26Speaker 4: are in line for the number one seed, or they
- 18:29Speaker 4: don't make.
- 18:29Speaker 1: The playoffs boom or bust.
- 18:32Speaker 4: The way that people are talking about them is like,
- 18:35Speaker 4: do you see this young talent Evan? And they are like,
- 18:38Speaker 4: I'm impressed with them. They they built it the right way.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Well Felger, I mean the Felger thing, because the only
- 18:44Speaker 4: way to do it transparent is drafting a quarterback late
- 18:47Speaker 4: in the first round and letting him sit for five
- 18:49Speaker 4: years is the only way to do right, right, right,
- 18:52Speaker 4: Let's just you know, that's the only way to build
- 18:54Speaker 4: a team. But they are very impressive with their young
- 18:57Speaker 4: talent and how they've come on. And Tomara is right.
- 19:00Speaker 4: They were left for dead in the middle of the
- 19:02Speaker 4: season and they they got up off the mat and
- 19:04Speaker 4: they and they bounced back and it was No. Those
- 19:06Speaker 4: two games were not Flukes.
- 19:08Speaker 7: No, he was probably one of the best quarterbacks in
- 19:10Speaker 7: the league the last like six or seven weeks of
- 19:11Speaker 7: the season until that final drive, you know, fourth quarter basically.
- 19:15Speaker 4: But that's that's the funny thing is Love played so
- 19:18Speaker 4: much better than perty in that game. But one guy
- 19:22Speaker 4: was great when the game was on the line, and
- 19:24Speaker 4: the other guy sucked when the game was on the line.
- 19:26Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:27Speaker 7: Yeah, we didn't talk about the offensive coordinator candidates that
- 19:31Speaker 7: the Patriots have interviewed to get to that, wait, which
- 19:33Speaker 7: I knew. No, I'm just it's it connects, which I
- 19:36Speaker 7: do really like the list of guys that they have
- 19:38Speaker 7: in here.
- 19:38Speaker 4: But you just look at the field.
- 19:41Speaker 7: Just get me the khaki wearing you know, tight pants.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Like there was a bad guy, the Tampa guy I
- 19:51Speaker 4: never even heard of. And I'm like even.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Shanahan Tree guys already or something like that.
- 19:59Speaker 7: Three Ay McVeigh, tree guys on the same thing.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Patriots.
- 20:04Speaker 7: I don't know about Nick Keayley, Like who you you know,
- 20:06Speaker 7: he's more of a Patriot guy, right, But Zach Robinson
- 20:09Speaker 7: would be Zach Robinson, Dan Pictuer uh Nick Keyley obviously
- 20:14Speaker 7: spent last year with with the Rams, in eight years
- 20:17Speaker 7: with the Patriots, but he's a he's.
- 20:18Speaker 4: One of them. He's one of them now, no, he
- 20:20Speaker 4: but he's he looks like one of them.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Like I'm telling you, like, he's the type of guy
- 20:24Speaker 7: that you want coach Ben Johnson, Matt Lafleur, Kyle Shanahan,
- 20:30Speaker 7: Dan Kanalis in Tampa, Like these are the.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Like I wasn't can and then they showed him in
- 20:35Speaker 4: the first drive the game. I'm like, Jesus, he's not.
- 20:38Speaker 4: He's going to be a head coach out of the
- 20:40Speaker 4: next in the next year or two.
- 20:42Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely that that's that's the group like those are
- 20:45Speaker 7: the guys that are left standing or were even in
- 20:47Speaker 7: the divisional routes like left standing.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Get me one of those guys, please.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Shane Waldron might get a he got already already for him.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Now he's another one out of that tree.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Yea. He worked here though, No, yeah he did.
- 21:01Speaker 4: He also worked at local high school football.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Bos he went to school with Andy.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He went to school, but he coached it.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Yeah, he coached I was talking.
- 21:11Speaker 1: About his Yeah, he went to Toughs.
- 21:13Speaker 4: He went to Toughs after Andy. Yeah, I think Robinson,
- 21:19Speaker 4: I'm really intrigued by for the obvious reasons that Evan
- 21:21Speaker 4: talked about. With the connections I want with so we
- 21:26Speaker 4: got we got yeah, well yeah, the tight close Yes,
- 21:29Speaker 4: handsome gentlemen. We were getting a lot of spfws Fred
- 21:33Speaker 4: that are sort of, you know, asking why all of
- 21:36Speaker 4: a sudden we're changing because a couple of years ago
- 21:40Speaker 4: we weren't looking to change the offense. We were critical
- 21:44Speaker 4: of the you know, zone schemes in the running game,
- 21:47Speaker 4: and I think people have misunderstood the criticisms were not
- 21:51Speaker 4: levied at the changes of the offense. It was levied
- 21:54Speaker 4: toward the fact that defensive guys with no base knowledge
- 21:57Speaker 4: of the changes were trying to implement them.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And plus they might have been putting a square peg
- 22:03Speaker 1: in a round hole with Mac Jones.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Yeah, but that wasn't my concern. My concern mostly now, Look,
- 22:09Speaker 4: if you want to have Mac Jones running around throwing
- 22:11Speaker 4: bombs everywhere, yes, you're putting a square peg in around hole.
- 22:13Speaker 4: That's not his game. But my problem was when I
- 22:17Speaker 4: started to hear the players complaining about the fact that
- 22:22Speaker 4: they didn't have answers about the offense. It's that they
- 22:25Speaker 4: were trying to implement. Yeah, and you know, so to
- 22:28Speaker 4: go out and get a Zach Robinson or if it's
- 22:31Speaker 4: Kaylee or this pitcher guy who I'm not as familiar with,
- 22:35Speaker 4: is the other two they I'm going to assume they
- 22:38Speaker 4: know the offense they're going to be bringing. It's not
- 22:40Speaker 4: Matt Patricia and Joe Judge trying to put it in.
- 22:42Speaker 1: So I have a question though, because you have the
- 22:45Speaker 1: third pick, let's assume that they're going to take a quarterback.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Can you with with the three guys that are going
- 22:52Speaker 1: to be there, It's it's Caleb Williams, it's Drake may Or,
- 22:56Speaker 1: it's it's Jalen Jayden, James J. Daniels. Is it interchangeable
- 23:02Speaker 1: in terms of I already know what kind of offense
- 23:04Speaker 1: I have, I can put either one of those three
- 23:06Speaker 1: guys in, or do I have to wait to see
- 23:08Speaker 1: which guy I have before I start thinking about my
- 23:10Speaker 1: offensive philosophy.
- 23:12Speaker 7: I would say that if they are gonna take one
- 23:15Speaker 7: of these McVeigh guys, they should be doing everything in
- 23:18Speaker 7: their power to get Drake May on this football team.
- 23:20Speaker 4: It's not even remotely close.
- 23:22Speaker 1: So, but I didn't look at it that deep. I'm
- 23:27Speaker 1: assuming that any one of these good coordinators can work
- 23:30Speaker 1: with any one of these quarterbacks. It's just a matter
- 23:32Speaker 1: of how they're gonna work with them.
- 23:34Speaker 7: If they're gonna install the McVeigh system. Though, if that's
- 23:37Speaker 7: the base of the system, then Drake May is by
- 23:41Speaker 7: far the best fit for that type of suce. Why
- 23:44Speaker 7: because of the way he throws into the middle of
- 23:46Speaker 7: the field. This is an offense that is predicated on
- 23:49Speaker 7: in breaking routes. Right, Everything is breaking into the middle
- 23:52Speaker 7: of the field. And on top of that, you also
- 23:55Speaker 7: want to have a quarterback that can throw on the
- 23:56Speaker 7: move because you want to run bootleg.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But that sounds like all of them, Well, maybe not Daniels.
- 24:01Speaker 7: But we're talking about not talking about like improvising on
- 24:04Speaker 7: the move. We're talking about throwing on bootleg actions and
- 24:07Speaker 7: structure on the move. And you have to have that
- 24:10Speaker 7: ability to not only be able to throw accurately on
- 24:12Speaker 7: the move, but also be able to throw far accurately.
- 24:15Speaker 4: On the move.
- 24:16Speaker 7: So you started talking about guys like that in this draft.
- 24:19Speaker 7: You know, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels. They don't see the
- 24:22Speaker 7: middle of the field as well, they don't manipulate the
- 24:24Speaker 7: middle of the field as well. Drake May is a
- 24:27Speaker 7: carbon copy of a Matthew Stafford type of cars.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So when Girodmeo sits down with Steve Burton last week
- 24:35Speaker 1: and says that basically, we're gonna be picking a quarterback,
- 24:39Speaker 1: We're gonna be picking an important player at the most
- 24:42Speaker 1: important position, do you think that that means he loves
- 24:48Speaker 1: all three of them and he'll be happy with any
- 24:50Speaker 1: of those three or they have a certain quarterback other
- 24:54Speaker 1: than Caleb Williams, so they probably won't have a shot
- 24:56Speaker 1: at that they're gonna get And if you know, if
- 25:00Speaker 1: Drake May is that too, they're going to trade up
- 25:03Speaker 1: to get Drake may because that's the guy that they
- 25:06Speaker 1: really want.
- 25:06Speaker 7: I think it depends if when you get these guys
- 25:09Speaker 7: in for the interviews, especially the in person interviews, when
- 25:12Speaker 7: you get them up on the whiteboards and stuff like that,
- 25:14Speaker 7: what's your plan with Jaden Daniels? Because he's a unique talent.
- 25:18Speaker 7: It's it's a different type of quarterback. He's not going
- 25:21Speaker 7: to come in here and you know, hit the top
- 25:24Speaker 7: of the drop, get the ball out over the middle
- 25:26Speaker 7: on time, accurately with zip like that's just not his game.
- 25:30Speaker 7: So if that if that's your offense, if you're hiring
- 25:33Speaker 7: Zach Robinson and he's coming from the McVeigh tree, and
- 25:35Speaker 7: that's the basis of your offense, well what if we
- 25:39Speaker 7: have to draft Jaden Daniels? How are you going to
- 25:41Speaker 7: adapt that off.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But that's kind of like going to say, like unless
- 25:44Speaker 1: Gerrod is head coach, Gerard Mayo is blowing smoke, how
- 25:49Speaker 1: can he be so certain that he's going to be
- 25:50Speaker 1: picking a quarterback at three.
- 25:52Speaker 4: I mean, I'm going to give him a little bit
- 25:54Speaker 4: of a mulligan, so he got maybe a little bit
- 25:56Speaker 4: over his skis No, I'm serious, right, Like I think
- 25:58Speaker 4: that they're excited. Well, I think that he My big
- 26:02Speaker 4: takeaway from you know, we're not even a full week
- 26:05Speaker 4: into the Mayo regime yet my big takeaway is he
- 26:11Speaker 4: is so intent on letting everybody know that he is
- 26:13Speaker 4: not Bill Belichick, that he's going too far a little bit,
- 26:17Speaker 4: you know, we can talk about a little bit about
- 26:19Speaker 4: his follow up interview he had yesterday with with the EI,
- 26:22Speaker 4: where he's talking about, Oh, we got cash to burn,
- 26:25Speaker 4: we're gonna be, We're gonna be spending money. We're gonna
- 26:27Speaker 4: be you know, like, I don't think that if he
- 26:30Speaker 4: probably went home later, yeah, I probably didn't need to
- 26:33Speaker 4: say that, you know what I mean. I think he's
- 26:35Speaker 4: just so intent on letting everybody know it's gonna be different.
- 26:39Speaker 4: I'm gonna talk to you guys.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Or is he crazy like a fox and he's saying, yeah,
- 26:44Speaker 1: we're gonna be, you know, spending money, and then they
- 26:47Speaker 1: end up not spending money, and it's like, well, they
- 26:50Speaker 1: didn't let him spend money. He wanted to. He said
- 26:52Speaker 1: he wanted to, and they didn't let him.
- 26:54Speaker 7: I don't know, I feel like it's more like Red
- 26:55Speaker 7: Sox full throttle than anything. And that's what I'm concerned
- 26:59Speaker 7: about is that people going back to these interviews in
- 27:02Speaker 7: January come March and saying, you guys said you were
- 27:05Speaker 7: gonna spend money, and now T Higgins is a wherever
- 27:09Speaker 7: you know, and he's not a New England Patriot? What
- 27:11Speaker 7: the hell happened? Like that's the way I.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Look at Harrison? Oh god, oh god.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I we can talk about that. Some of it.
- 27:20Speaker 9: I do feel like off topic. Okay, Evan, how would.
- 27:25Speaker 8: You feel if so if they drafted Marvin Harrison but
- 27:27Speaker 8: they got a good veteran quarterback.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Like like who Baker Mayfield?
- 27:32Speaker 4: He's not leaving?
- 27:33Speaker 9: I mean, like a Cayler Murray or like a Justin Field.
- 27:35Speaker 8: I know you probably want Murray overfields, but what if
- 27:39Speaker 8: you were able to get one of those guys, but
- 27:40Speaker 8: you also got Marvin Harrison.
- 27:43Speaker 7: I just it's building backwards to me. And like the
- 27:46Speaker 7: Law the quicker that we realize that the good teams
- 27:50Speaker 7: that are currently standing in the NFL playoffs are built
- 27:53Speaker 7: inside out, the faster the Patriots will get back to contention,
- 27:56Speaker 7: And like drafting the receiver asked the Laws how Calvin
- 28:00Speaker 7: Johnson's career worked out for them? Like Hall of fame player,
- 28:04Speaker 7: first ballot everything. They won nothing with him because they
- 28:08Speaker 7: had nothing around him. You know, even when Stafford got there,
- 28:10Speaker 7: they still had Wards. And that that's the way I
- 28:13Speaker 7: look at it. You have to look at this as
- 28:15Speaker 7: a multi year rebuild. The receiver will come, it will happen.
- 28:20Speaker 1: But I I you got to be careful though, when
- 28:22Speaker 1: you take a situation like Detroit with Calvin Johnson and
- 28:28Speaker 1: use that and you know, brush with a broad stroke,
- 28:32Speaker 1: you know, because that doesn't you know, just because Detroit
- 28:35Speaker 1: took Calvin Johnson doesn't mean they did everything else right. Yeah,
- 28:38Speaker 1: you know, they could have screwed it up, so another
- 28:41Speaker 1: GM in Detroit they could have had Calvin Johnson and
- 28:44Speaker 1: then built it up correctly.
- 28:45Speaker 4: No, I mean, obviously there's a chance to do that everywhere,
- 28:48Speaker 4: and it's all about whether how many guys that you
- 28:51Speaker 4: pick right right, Like everybody wants to use the San
- 28:53Speaker 4: Francisco model without recognizing how difficult that.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Was and how lucky they got.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Well, I mean, you want to call it lusk whatever.
- 29:00Speaker 4: I'm not just gonna say that all these guys they
- 29:02Speaker 4: picked that were good were lucky.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I'm talking with Rock Purdy one night.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Oh no, it doesn't have anything to do with Brock
- 29:07Speaker 4: Purdy that Like, this is Evans's kind of point that
- 29:10Speaker 4: you could they're so good that it's quarterback proof. Yeah, okay,
- 29:14Speaker 4: but people don't recognize how hard it is to hit
- 29:17Speaker 4: literally on a dozen draft picks, like not like but
- 29:21Speaker 4: I can do it, not like hit like Keon White.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Hit.
- 29:24Speaker 4: I'm talking about hit like I have a borderline Pro
- 29:27Speaker 4: Bowl All Pro at like literally a dozen spots that
- 29:31Speaker 4: I drafted, Like that's so hard.
- 29:34Speaker 7: But I can hear either argument, Like, it's not just
- 29:36Speaker 7: about the quarterback proof thing. To me, if you want
- 29:38Speaker 7: to make the argument that they should be taking the quarterback,
- 29:40Speaker 7: then fine. If you want to make the argument that
- 29:43Speaker 7: they should be taking Joe Alt, I also couldn't get
- 29:46Speaker 7: behind that as well. I can't get behind Marvin Harrison.
- 29:48Speaker 7: I just don't see how that gets you anywhere. Like
- 29:51Speaker 7: you're gonna have a quarterback that can't throw the ball,
- 29:54Speaker 7: that isn't protected, throwing to a receiver down the field
- 29:56Speaker 7: who's wide open. Great, and then what happened in between?
- 30:01Speaker 7: You know, and you look across the this final four
- 30:04Speaker 7: right now, every single one of them are built in
- 30:07Speaker 7: the trenches. They all are they all have great offensive lines,
- 30:10Speaker 7: they all have great systems around that. It's not there's
- 30:14Speaker 7: not a single team in the NFL this year who's
- 30:17Speaker 7: been worth anything that's had a really crappy offensive line.
- 30:20Speaker 7: It's been a really good year for Trench at play.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I just think that if you put
- 30:25Speaker 1: your mind to it, or if you're smart about it,
- 30:27Speaker 1: you can build up that offensive line without having to
- 30:30Speaker 1: take a guy on the top ten.
- 30:32Speaker 4: That's my argument. I don't think you can. I don't
- 30:34Speaker 4: think you can be terrible on the by Who's going
- 30:37Speaker 4: to build that up?
- 30:37Speaker 10: Who's going to coach him? Well, that's well, that's not
- 30:40Speaker 10: part of it. You've got to have a good coach
- 30:43Speaker 10: point de Trot, like Detroit was. You know, I kind
- 30:49Speaker 10: of understand Fred's point about Calvin Johnson, like.
- 30:53Speaker 4: They don't have to be terrible everywhere else on the
- 30:55Speaker 4: team to be terrible coaching him. Right, you can make that, Jeff,
- 31:01Speaker 4: You know, they can make that argument for Joe Thomas.
- 31:05Speaker 4: You know, I like to bring my my my notes, right,
- 31:08Speaker 4: I got I got notes. We can we'll talk about
- 31:10Speaker 4: this later and stuff. But absolutely I agree. But I
- 31:13Speaker 4: just feel like that the line needs to be fixed.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Evan's point is like not arguable, Like they can't go
- 31:20Speaker 4: into another year with what they did up front last year.
- 31:23Speaker 4: I would argue that other teams lost a lot of
- 31:27Speaker 4: person Like Kansas City's tackles are not very good, but
- 31:31Speaker 4: it's a pretty good offensive line. They're really good in.
- 31:33Speaker 1: The middle and probably well coached.
- 31:36Speaker 4: And they also have the best quarterback in football who
- 31:40Speaker 4: covers for a lot. You know, the inefficiencies. I mean,
- 31:43Speaker 4: one of the biggest players in the game on Sunday
- 31:45Speaker 4: was that play where the two Bills go. It wasn't
- 31:48Speaker 4: a blitz. They disguised it perfectly. McDermott dialed it up
- 31:52Speaker 4: absolutely perfectly and had two guys coming, other guys dropping,
- 31:57Speaker 4: and my homes just ran right by the two guys
- 31:59Speaker 4: you know that one name. They climbed the pocket and
- 32:02Speaker 4: ran right by the two guys that went unblocked.
- 32:05Speaker 7: Yeah, Field, So you have a quarterback that can do that, right,
- 32:10Speaker 7: I hear that argument too. I just look at the
- 32:13Speaker 7: final four is the perfect example this year. All of
- 32:16Speaker 7: them are well built on the line, well coached on
- 32:20Speaker 7: the line. Across the board. You know, Kansas City had
- 32:24Speaker 7: one of the best offensive lines in football. This year,
- 32:26Speaker 7: Detroit has one of the best offensive Detroit.
- 32:29Speaker 4: San Francisco's I think stinks except for Trent Williams.
- 32:34Speaker 1: You see the difference.
- 32:36Speaker 4: But he's tremendous.
- 32:37Speaker 7: He's tremendous, and they have a really good scheme that
- 32:40Speaker 7: that's able to work around it. That's part of the
- 32:42Speaker 7: allure of this Shanahan tree is that they do make
- 32:45Speaker 7: life easier on the line because they move the pocket
- 32:48Speaker 7: so much. But like all these different things, do you
- 32:50Speaker 7: think Detroit is regretting taking Penny Steel.
- 32:53Speaker 4: No, but I can give you a lot of other
- 32:55Speaker 4: teams that are regretting taking tackles in the top.
- 32:57Speaker 1: But I think there's a lot of ways to do it.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And as long as most of the stuff you do
- 33:02Speaker 1: is right, you can be okay, you know, yeah.
- 33:06Speaker 4: And that's why Evan's right, Like you you have to
- 33:09Speaker 4: figure out a way to pick players that are going
- 33:12Speaker 4: to help you. Now, I would probably be in the
- 33:15Speaker 4: middle of you two with Marvin Harrison and the tackles.
- 33:19Speaker 4: If it works, if you hit, then you just got
- 33:21Speaker 4: to hit the net. Like I don't think there's anything
- 33:23Speaker 4: wrong with taking Matt Light in the second round, you know,
- 33:27Speaker 4: Like it doesn't have to be Joe Alt at three
- 33:30Speaker 4: if but you can make a strong argument either way,
- 33:33Speaker 4: and I'll play Evans argument. There's a lot of really
- 33:37Speaker 4: good wide receivers that were taken third, fourth, fifth wide
- 33:40Speaker 4: receiver in the draft, just like there's a lot of
- 33:41Speaker 4: good tackles that would take in And I do have
- 33:44Speaker 4: the information the quarterbacks, I have my notes. I would
- 33:47Speaker 4: still go quarterbacks.
- 33:47Speaker 7: I'm not like say like this is an argument of
- 33:50Speaker 7: would you take the tackle or would you take Marvin
- 33:52Speaker 7: Harrison Gay And that.
- 33:53Speaker 4: To me is the big difference because I have the
- 33:55Speaker 4: third quarterback taken in the last ten drafts, the third
- 33:58Speaker 4: tackle taken in the last ten drafts, third wide receiver.
- 34:01Speaker 4: By far and away, the better players are wide receivers
- 34:03Speaker 4: and tackles than the third quarterback. So if you want
- 34:06Speaker 4: to wait on a position that one ain't, ain't it
- 34:11Speaker 4: like if you I mean, if you can get it,
- 34:13Speaker 4: If you can get Drake May and that's the second quarterback,
- 34:16Speaker 4: I'm a reckon move. But if you get stuck with
- 34:18Speaker 4: the third one and then you decide you want to go,
- 34:21Speaker 4: you know what, I'm not gonna take it. I'm gonna
- 34:22Speaker 4: get bo Nicks in the second round. That's probably not
- 34:25Speaker 4: gonna work.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but but you mentioned you said if you get stuck.
- 34:29Speaker 1: If I feel like I'm stuck and I gotta take
- 34:32Speaker 1: a quarterback, I wouldn't take them. No.
- 34:36Speaker 4: And that's where I like, I've been big they got
- 34:39Speaker 4: to get a quarterback in this draft. I've been big
- 34:40Speaker 4: on that. But if if it works that you don't
- 34:44Speaker 4: think as much of Jayden Daniels as you do may
- 34:46Speaker 4: and Williams, I think you have to take a tackle.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Or or or there's a guy later that you think
- 34:52Speaker 1: is just as good as Jayden Daniels And then wait.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I just you know, I'm just gonna tell you that
- 34:57Speaker 4: guy's not going to be as good either. I just
- 35:00Speaker 4: need to see.
- 35:01Speaker 7: This is probably a better conversation to have, like in April,
- 35:05Speaker 7: in the lead up into the draft, because if they
- 35:08Speaker 7: if they have a really strong coaching staff and they
- 35:11Speaker 7: have a good free agency and they're plugging. But the
- 35:14Speaker 7: problem is is that if you look at the offensive
- 35:17Speaker 7: lineman available and free agency, Mike on Win, who is
- 35:19Speaker 7: the best one. So you're going you're making the lateral
- 35:23Speaker 7: move even by bringing him back, you're not adding to anything.
- 35:26Speaker 7: The second best tackle is like Tyron Smith, who's one
- 35:28Speaker 7: hundred years old. Trent Brown is probably the third best
- 35:31Speaker 7: tackle available.
- 35:32Speaker 1: On the market.
- 35:33Speaker 7: Because these guys don't come available. There's not enough of them.
- 35:36Speaker 7: So if you have a good one, you're not letting
- 35:38Speaker 7: the good ones come available.
- 35:39Speaker 4: And that's what their approach last year. So curious. Yes,
- 35:42Speaker 4: they had some options. They had some options last year
- 35:45Speaker 4: with guys who quote don't come available, like Orlando Brown. Yeah,
- 35:48Speaker 4: that they could have made a run in run at you.
- 35:51Speaker 4: They chose not to the.
- 35:51Speaker 7: Last couple of years, the draft especially, but also last
- 35:55Speaker 7: year's free agency class with tackles, they just punted that
- 35:58Speaker 7: spot down the road consists instantly.
- 36:00Speaker 1: They started with Joe Toney. They screwed up and they
- 36:02Speaker 1: haven't recovered since all right eight.
- 36:05Speaker 4: So fred I thought back to the Drake may thing,
- 36:08Speaker 4: you know when when that was Evans pick for the
- 36:10Speaker 4: guy who most translates to that system, that ram system.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Did you see you know, did you watch much of
- 36:16Speaker 4: the Tampa game, the Lions in Tampa, like Jared Goff
- 36:21Speaker 4: tore Tampa apart. In between the numbers, the whole game,
- 36:25Speaker 4: everything was everything was down the middle, between the hashes,
- 36:29Speaker 4: between the numbers. That's that's that's where he comes from. Like,
- 36:33Speaker 4: I'm sure that Ben Johnson is calling a game with
- 36:37Speaker 4: the strengths of his quarterback in mind, you know, like
- 36:41Speaker 4: that's I mean, Gough was pretty good in that game.
- 36:43Speaker 4: I'll be curious to see how he plays outdoors because
- 36:45Speaker 4: he hasn't got away with a couple he hasn't played
- 36:47Speaker 4: Uh well, yeah, the one in the end zone to
- 36:49Speaker 4: Dean was a flat drop. He's got to catch that.
- 36:51Speaker 4: That was just a bad, bad, bad drop.
- 36:54Speaker 7: He's one of the best passers in the league when
- 36:56Speaker 7: he kept clean, and luckily they keep him clean a lot.
- 36:59Speaker 4: So, you know, a tough task with San Francisco, but
- 37:02Speaker 4: I just watching the way they approached it as Evan
- 37:05Speaker 4: was talking about what may does, Well, that's what I
- 37:09Speaker 4: was thinking, is the ram system that's Stafford Now it
- 37:12Speaker 4: was GoF then that's what they do, and.
- 37:15Speaker 7: It's it's not only is it being able to drive
- 37:19Speaker 7: the ball through the middle of the field, Like that's
- 37:21Speaker 7: a big part of it because you're throwing into these
- 37:23Speaker 7: tighter windows. Like Matthew Stafford made a throw to Pukua
- 37:26Speaker 7: Nakua in a wildcard round talk that was like a
- 37:30Speaker 7: twenty yard dig route that he'd fit between two defenders
- 37:34Speaker 7: and that in that system, that's the read like, that's
- 37:36Speaker 7: the throw that you have to be able to make
- 37:38Speaker 7: to make that system work. And you also have to
- 37:41Speaker 7: be able to manipulate openings into the second and third
- 37:44Speaker 7: levels between the numbers by looking guys off and moving
- 37:47Speaker 7: coverage or Stafford likes to do the no look passes
- 37:50Speaker 7: like those types of things. If you can't control the
- 37:52Speaker 7: middle of the field as the quarterback in that system,
- 37:55Speaker 7: it's really difficult to do. So if they adapt it,
- 37:58Speaker 7: you know, it's all all of it is condensed formations.
- 38:01Speaker 7: Middle of the field, three receiver like, that's what they play.
- 38:05Speaker 7: And if you are gonna draft Jayden Daniels, you want
- 38:08Speaker 7: him in a spread. You want the field wide open,
- 38:10Speaker 7: everybody spread out, and that way there he's it's simplifying
- 38:14Speaker 7: to read, and it's also allowing him to use his
- 38:16Speaker 7: legs when he needs to. If you're asking him to
- 38:18Speaker 7: just sit there and dice you up in the middle
- 38:19Speaker 7: of the field, that's not.
- 38:20Speaker 1: The guy I'd feel a lot better with if everyone
- 38:23Speaker 1: was making the pick. If with Mayo saying we're definitely
- 38:26Speaker 1: picking a quarterback. If I knew who our offensive coordinator
- 38:29Speaker 1: was you know.
- 38:30Speaker 7: But looking at all the interplace, this is, you know,
- 38:32Speaker 7: all three of those guys are connected to McVeigh in
- 38:35Speaker 7: some way shape.
- 38:36Speaker 8: How hard is it going to be. How hard will
- 38:37Speaker 8: it be to trade up to get Drake May?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Well, if you're going from three to two, I mean
- 38:43Speaker 1: you could you could swing that.
- 38:44Speaker 4: It's all dependent on Chicago and Arizona. If you stay
- 38:48Speaker 4: with Fields and Murray, then you can trade up.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 4: But if they both, if they want Williams and may
- 38:54Speaker 4: you're not right. If that's not there's nothing you're gonna give,
- 38:57Speaker 4: really that's going to do that. The other thing that
- 39:00Speaker 4: really stood out to me over the weekend was just
- 39:02Speaker 4: how many throws were made by guys that I said
- 39:05Speaker 4: to myself, mackin Zaby can't make Oh absolutely not. Like
- 39:09Speaker 4: they can't move and make that throw from that arm
- 39:12Speaker 4: angle or from that's the game. That platform, that footwork,
- 39:16Speaker 4: that's the game.
- 39:16Speaker 7: Now, Like you have to be able to throw from
- 39:20Speaker 7: a muddied pocket without your feet set. If you can't
- 39:22Speaker 7: drive the ball without having a perfect you know, feet set,
- 39:27Speaker 7: step into it and throw then there, that's just not
- 39:30Speaker 7: gonna happen. The pass rush is too good now they're
- 39:33Speaker 7: too good at disguising the rush. There's too many good
- 39:36Speaker 7: edge rushers coming up the you know, around the corners
- 39:39Speaker 7: on you and stuff like that.
- 39:40Speaker 4: And it wasn't just that. It wasn't just Mahomes and
- 39:42Speaker 4: Allen either like your guy let Bake or Bake who
- 39:46Speaker 4: didn't have a great game, but he made some unbelievably
- 39:50Speaker 4: ridiculously good throw this.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he just screwed up at the end. All right, Well,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I miss rooting for the other team.
- 40:01Speaker 4: He missed some throws in the game, but he but
- 40:03Speaker 4: I thought he gave his team a chance to win.
- 40:05Speaker 4: If I would Tampa, I'd be take another run with him. Yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 4: I would say, you know it works. They liked him.
- 40:12Speaker 4: I think you have a chance to get Mike Evans back.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Yeah I would. I would roll it. I would roll
- 40:17Speaker 4: it back. It's a bad division that you probably would
- 40:19Speaker 4: be favorite to win again.
- 40:20Speaker 1: All right, eight five five past five hundred is the
- 40:22Speaker 1: ace ticket hutline web radio at patries dot com is
- 40:25Speaker 1: the email address. Let's see what you have to say.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Dan's in New Jersey. What's up Dan?
- 40:32Speaker 8: Hi?
- 40:32Speaker 11: Everyone? So, as we you know, were waiting on Bill
- 40:36Speaker 11: to see if he gets a bite, I have a hypothetical,
- 40:40Speaker 11: just cheered me out. But also in a side, Today's
- 40:44Speaker 11: the nineteenth anniversary of the NFC Championship game against the Steelers,
- 40:50Speaker 11: and in my news feed I get a clip. It
- 40:53Speaker 11: seems like every day just a reminder of just how
- 40:55Speaker 11: good we had it for so long. And in this
- 40:57Speaker 11: particular clip, it's Harrison intercepting, you know, Ben Roethlisberger taking
- 41:03Speaker 11: to the house. Right, the game is twenty four to three,
- 41:06Speaker 11: it's almost half, and then they cut to Bill and
- 41:09Speaker 11: he's chewing out some poor offensive lineman. I think I
- 41:12Speaker 11: may have been Keith Trailer or something. But you know,
- 41:16Speaker 11: here's the this is probably crazy, and you know, and
- 41:19Speaker 11: and as fans, you know, we tend to think about,
- 41:22Speaker 11: you know, a player's legacy more than the principles involved.
- 41:27Speaker 11: But hear me out. Do you think there was ever
- 41:29Speaker 11: a chance that Bill and Tom would have gone out
- 41:32Speaker 11: together or you know, obviously they're two big egos, and
- 41:36Speaker 11: obviously neither one was done five years ago, But do
- 41:39Speaker 11: you think if kraft Is sat him down and said, listen,
- 41:42Speaker 11: give me one year, can you go out together?
- 41:45Speaker 4: You know the.
- 41:45Speaker 11: Greatest coach player relationships, he could play it up like this.
- 41:50Speaker 11: You know, the fan base will eat this up.
- 41:53Speaker 1: But yeah, but I think both of them wanted to think. Yeah,
- 41:56Speaker 1: I think both of them wanted one more year. I
- 41:58Speaker 1: didn't they you know, they don't want to be told
- 42:00Speaker 1: you can only go one more year and go. You know,
- 42:03Speaker 1: it'd be great if he went out together.
- 42:04Speaker 4: And I don't think they could be told that.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Tom wanted more money as a sign of respect
- 42:10Speaker 1: and not just want money. He wanted, yeah, you want
- 42:12Speaker 1: to be wanted and to show that. He wanted a
- 42:15Speaker 1: longer term contract for market money. And Bill wasn't gonna
- 42:20Speaker 1: give him, and Robert sided.
- 42:22Speaker 4: With Bill, and you weren't gonna be able to tell
- 42:25Speaker 4: Bill and Tom you need to do this like they
- 42:29Speaker 4: had to want to do it. And I don't think
- 42:31Speaker 4: Bill wanted Tom back, and because of that, I don't
- 42:34Speaker 4: think Tom wanted to be bad.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Sentimentality wasn't gonna make it out and Thankstan. And you know,
- 42:41Speaker 1: if there's anyone that could convince somebody to do it's Robert.
- 42:44Speaker 1: He's a master negotiator and diplomat, but not in this case.
- 42:49Speaker 1: He couldn't do it.
- 42:50Speaker 4: In this case.
- 42:50Speaker 7: I wonder, in hindsight, if they would have rather have
- 42:54Speaker 7: treated twenty eighteen as the last dance, like you're right
- 42:57Speaker 7: off into the sunset.
- 42:58Speaker 1: I still say, I still say Brady might have retired
- 43:02Speaker 1: after that Eagle Super Bowl if they had won it.
- 43:04Speaker 7: I'm not necessarily saying retired. I just wonder if maybe
- 43:08Speaker 7: that would have been a better split than hanging on
- 43:11Speaker 7: for the extra year in twenty nineteen.
- 43:13Speaker 4: So just out of curiosity, And I'm not saying you're wrong,
- 43:16Speaker 4: because who knows. We don't know. If they had won
- 43:20Speaker 4: in seventeen, he would have retired. But he comes back
- 43:22Speaker 4: for eighteen and they do winep and he didn't retire.
- 43:25Speaker 1: No, because then it was different. I think what happened
- 43:28Speaker 1: Giselle is part of this. There's a lot of factors
- 43:32Speaker 1: that his mind, even over twelve months, completely kind of shifted.
- 43:37Speaker 1: But I think after the seventeenth season going into eighteen,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I think in his mind, you know, for the sake
- 43:44Speaker 1: of his marriage and everything else that was going on,
- 43:47Speaker 1: this would be good. I can quit if we win.
- 43:51Speaker 4: But for the sake of his marriage, he decided I
- 43:53Speaker 4: gotta come back.
- 43:54Speaker 1: And then and that screwed up. Giselle was like, you
- 43:58Speaker 1: know what, I'm.
- 43:58Speaker 4: Done, But that was a long time after that that
- 44:00Speaker 4: he was Yeah, I thought she was.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I just think that I have a feeling that.
- 44:05Speaker 4: He would have been frames not really on here, you know.
- 44:07Speaker 1: He would have been okay if I'm.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Not telling you, you're wrong. I don't know what was
- 44:11Speaker 4: in just the sence I have.
- 44:13Speaker 1: And then afterwards, like you know, like he won two
- 44:17Speaker 1: others after that, Yeah, I know, but oh I know that,
- 44:20Speaker 1: and I think he kind of in his mind he
- 44:23Speaker 1: got re energized again.
- 44:24Speaker 4: But that's when he went to Tampa.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Yeah, the chip got back on his shoulder.
- 44:28Speaker 4: You know, Like I would have said, if he was
- 44:30Speaker 4: going to retire after seventeen, right, if they won, why
- 44:33Speaker 4: wouldn't you have retired after eighteen? Do the even thing
- 44:35Speaker 4: like treated as the last dance. Instead, he came back
- 44:38Speaker 4: from nineteen here. I know this was before re energized.
- 44:41Speaker 4: So I know here he came back for nineteen and
- 44:43Speaker 4: he was.
- 44:44Speaker 1: The most miserable eight and no quarterback. Yeah.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Now maybe he wishes he retired after the eighteenth. Yeah,
- 44:49Speaker 4: because of the way he pouted through the nineteen Yeah.
- 44:51Speaker 7: The nineteen season was a waste of all of our times,
- 44:54Speaker 7: Like he wasn't happy, he didn't play well.
- 44:57Speaker 4: You know what else it was, It was the dawn
- 44:58Speaker 4: of the Deuce era. Yeah, we haven't had any we
- 45:01Speaker 4: haven't had a nice thing since.
- 45:02Speaker 1: That's part of it. That's part of it. Let's go
- 45:05Speaker 1: to uh Eldred in North Carolina? What's up? Aldred?
- 45:11Speaker 12: Hey?
- 45:11Speaker 5: Hey, let's tell y'all doing all right?
- 45:13Speaker 4: Well, say hi to Samara first and individual to get
- 45:16Speaker 4: you yet.
- 45:17Speaker 5: But I got a question. But uh, excuse me, Fred
- 45:24Speaker 5: heard something skipped Bayless. Uh, y'all was talking about Robert
- 45:28Speaker 5: and Bill a few minutes ago, right, yeah, okay, according
- 45:31Speaker 5: to Bayless, because he was hoping the Harbor go to
- 45:34Speaker 5: Chicago San Diego and he said, hope Bill didn't get
- 45:39Speaker 5: it and said him and Robert had a fall out
- 45:42Speaker 5: after the nineteenth when he told Robert that Bill that
- 45:45Speaker 5: Tom was done and he wanted to move on and
- 45:47Speaker 5: he went and did it then he then he said,
- 45:50Speaker 5: Robert said, didn't he go win the efton Super Bowl?
- 45:55Speaker 5: That you know there was cold for for a couple
- 45:57Speaker 5: of years. Yeah, they've been like not speaking. Is that
- 46:01Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 46:02Speaker 4: It was part of seth Wickersham don Van not Yeah,
- 46:05Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I don't know. S P. N I could hear Roberts
- 46:07Speaker 1: saying that, you know, I could, you know, and then
- 46:10Speaker 1: he goes and wins the Super Bowl and I could,
- 46:12Speaker 1: I could, But I don't know if that's true or not.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I don't know going to.
- 46:17Speaker 5: A different But other than that, I'm just uh, I'm
- 46:21Speaker 5: not gad about it. Is just waiting to see.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and what are we waiting to see? Yeah?
- 46:26Speaker 5: Everybody? Everybody? He won't great, great May and Caleb Williams.
- 46:30Speaker 5: Like I said before, Caleb just came out saying he
- 46:32Speaker 5: don't want to If New England drafted me, ain't gonna play.
- 46:35Speaker 4: And he also said he wasn't coming out of school.
- 46:37Speaker 4: How'd that work?
- 46:40Speaker 5: He came out of too, But think would do that?
- 46:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know he'd play for the You know,
- 46:45Speaker 4: I will make a prediction that he'll play for the
- 46:47Speaker 4: team that drafts him. That'll be That'll be my prediction. Now,
- 46:52Speaker 4: there's a couple of examples where that didn't happen. Right,
- 46:55Speaker 4: Elway and Eli Manning both did this and did that
- 46:58Speaker 4: and didn't play for the Chief.
- 46:59Speaker 1: What happened?
- 47:00Speaker 4: What happened to Biggie?
- 47:01Speaker 1: Yep? He wants to listen Melvin's and Tennessee. Hey, Melvin,
- 47:05Speaker 1: I like going back and forth with Biggie.
- 47:07Speaker 13: He's hey, hey, I got a quick thing, I guess.
- 47:12Speaker 13: But with new coaches and you know, Gerard and a
- 47:15Speaker 13: lot of those plays, I've only been coaching for five years, right,
- 47:18Speaker 13: So with that, like short stance, I've always wondered, like,
- 47:22Speaker 13: what is I guess feel done within these last couple
- 47:26Speaker 13: of years to kind of prepare, evaluate, give different roles?
- 47:31Speaker 13: Like what do you do with those type of young coaches.
- 47:34Speaker 13: Let's say he's coming in. He's good at one thing, obviously,
- 47:37Speaker 13: but how do you develop them? Do you put them
- 47:40Speaker 13: in different roles? Do you give them practice things like
- 47:43Speaker 13: the scrimmages and like maybe preseason games, but how.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Do you kind of well, didn't we hear about develop them? Yeah,
- 47:51Speaker 1: didn't we hear about Gerard getting involved in other facets?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Like I think he might have gone on some scouting
- 47:56Speaker 1: trips or some tryouts. He might have been involved and
- 48:00Speaker 1: maybe some negotiations at some point. So I think he
- 48:03Speaker 1: did get exposed to other parts of the team from
- 48:06Speaker 1: a scouting and business standpoint.
- 48:08Speaker 4: Yeah, he was.
- 48:09Speaker 7: He was in the offensive coordinator interviews last year. Yeah,
- 48:12Speaker 7: and the offensive line coach some of those interviews as
- 48:15Speaker 7: well worked out guys privately in the draft. Christian Zales
- 48:19Speaker 7: went out to Oregon and had a visit with Christian
- 48:22Speaker 7: Goanzalees out in Oregon before the draft, so he was
- 48:25Speaker 7: more involved in the scouting person, you know, CEO type
- 48:29Speaker 7: of thing.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Do you think that was Bill saying, Hey, Gerard, come
- 48:33Speaker 1: and come on and do this, or do you think
- 48:35Speaker 1: it was Robert Craft saying I want girod to get
- 48:37Speaker 1: involved in this.
- 48:37Speaker 7: Well he did it, at least reportedly did it with
- 48:40Speaker 7: Josh McDaniels, and that was the whole thing. And McDaniels
- 48:43Speaker 7: came back with the Colts was I will open my
- 48:45Speaker 7: world to you and show you how it's done right,
- 48:47Speaker 7: you know sort of thing, And I think was sort
- 48:50Speaker 7: of the handshake agreement with Gerard as well.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Okay, but I think my answer would be Robert for
- 48:57Speaker 4: both of those. Yeah, McDaniels, and I think that was
- 49:01Speaker 4: something that Robert went to Bill and said.
- 49:02Speaker 1: We need a succession plan to do this. We need
- 49:05Speaker 1: to start thinking about the future, and we need to
- 49:07Speaker 1: start exposing these people. You can't keep everything here, Bill,
- 49:11Speaker 1: we need to start getting other people exposed to these things.
- 49:14Speaker 4: Maybe just that's I mean, not a fact.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Just guessing. Uh, Tyler's in Virginia beach a Tyler.
- 49:25Speaker 12: My opinion is, you know, we need to go after
- 49:27Speaker 12: more offensive lineman and check up our defense because we
- 49:31Speaker 12: don't need another quarterback. Because you know, after watching last
- 49:34Speaker 12: season with this with a sophomore year, I feel like
- 49:37Speaker 12: Bailey's Appy's our guy?
- 49:40Speaker 1: Are you kidding us? Is this a put on? Is
- 49:46Speaker 1: this a work?
- 49:47Speaker 8: And?
- 49:48Speaker 1: Okay, yeah he's kidding. Yeah, yeah, you're kidding. Okay, thanks Tyler.
- 49:52Speaker 4: He waited a while for that.
- 49:54Speaker 7: Yeah, the Traceman solely put it over the top. There
- 49:58Speaker 7: are people out there that are still somehow pro one
- 50:01Speaker 7: of these guys that is currently on the team.
- 50:03Speaker 4: I don't know how, but they are.
- 50:04Speaker 8: If you wanted to call and say, like Mollie Cunningham,
- 50:07Speaker 8: I wish you would have seen more of him.
- 50:09Speaker 9: Maybe, but like.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Trace, yeah, speaking to Mac, your guy Greg Bagard causing
- 50:17Speaker 1: a lot of trouble.
- 50:18Speaker 4: I wanted to I wanted to get into that, like, yeah,
- 50:21Speaker 4: so I forget about Baard for a second. How can
- 50:25Speaker 4: I know we'll get back to him. You can, you
- 50:28Speaker 4: can give you can give those the details of what
- 50:32Speaker 4: he said, I can't read his stuff anymore, so you
- 50:35Speaker 4: can fill me in. You can't stomach it, or you
- 50:38Speaker 4: don't have to. You don't have the path the stuff.
- 50:40Speaker 4: The credentials that Stacy gave us don't work for that
- 50:43Speaker 4: site for me. All the other sites they were stop
- 50:45Speaker 4: paying Greg Oh.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Okay, the clips that they send there on like our
- 50:50Speaker 1: PR department sends morning clips and it's all just to
- 50:55Speaker 1: you know, they've gathered all the headlines about the Patriots
- 50:58Speaker 1: and they put him in one condensed form. But if
- 51:00Speaker 1: if it's a paywall, you can't read it.
- 51:01Speaker 4: But he gives he does give credentials to log into
- 51:04Speaker 4: those he does and they work for everything else. It
- 51:07Speaker 4: just doesn't work when I try to do it for BSJ.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Can we just like cut and paste them?
- 51:14Speaker 7: So complaining about somebody else making this very easy on
- 51:19Speaker 7: the mac Jones.
- 51:20Speaker 4: The mac Jones thing bugged me because there were five
- 51:24Speaker 4: players that were at Gerard Mao's introductory press conference, and
- 51:28Speaker 4: he was one of them, and suddenly that became might
- 51:33Speaker 4: he be back next year? Like that was that was
- 51:35Speaker 4: one of your guys.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Though.
- 51:36Speaker 4: We jumped through hoops to find some long road to
- 51:42Speaker 4: Grandma's house. Every single time, and I don't really understand it.
- 51:46Speaker 4: The fact that he was present at the press conference
- 51:48Speaker 4: is telling you that they think that he could be
- 51:50Speaker 4: back next year. Let's start.
- 51:52Speaker 1: That's not what I'm talking about.
- 51:53Speaker 4: No, No, you're talking about a counteraction to that report that
- 51:56Speaker 4: those reports, which you can go ahead, Well.
- 51:59Speaker 1: No, your guy and I didn't read it either. So
- 52:02Speaker 1: if I'm not getting this one hundred percent right, I apologize.
- 52:05Speaker 1: But he had a source being a player saying what's
- 52:09Speaker 1: he doing there? He's you know, his locker has been
- 52:11Speaker 1: cleaned out and he comes in workout stuff like he's
- 52:14Speaker 1: been here.
- 52:15Speaker 4: Called him out for being fraudulent and said there's not
- 52:19Speaker 4: even a hanger in his locker and that I saw
- 52:21Speaker 4: her on Twitter, the hanger and the locker thing I
- 52:23Speaker 4: saw on Twitter. Fam laugh.
- 52:26Speaker 8: It was weird to seeing him there, like the the Bentley's,
- 52:29Speaker 8: the John Jones is Devin mccordy's like that.
- 52:32Speaker 9: That wasn't weird to me see mac Jones there.
- 52:34Speaker 4: That was strung. I don't I don't mind that he
- 52:35Speaker 4: was there.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Just to me, he's under contract, this.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Friend, I'm with you a thousand percent.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Why wouldn't he Why.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Does it mean that he's he's he should start next year, right,
- 52:45Speaker 4: he can't like I don't understand. But he's on the team,
- 52:49Speaker 4: and he went to the press conference of his new coach.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I get it. Even the people that are detractors have
- 52:55Speaker 1: to admit that he's a workout warrior.
- 52:58Speaker 4: He I think think these detractors would say he's not.
- 53:02Speaker 4: But Bill, he did not look like a warrior, said
- 53:05Speaker 4: press conference.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Then early, he's he's out late, he puts in the work.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Everyone says that. I've never heard. I've never heard anyone say, oh,
- 53:14Speaker 1: he doesn't. He's not. He doesn't put in the effort,
- 53:17Speaker 1: you know. So I can absolutely see him being here.
- 53:19Speaker 4: I'm with her. I'm with Greg's source on this, Okay,
- 53:22Speaker 4: I am I just like.
- 53:25Speaker 7: I don't feel as though Mac. I think Mac does
- 53:29Speaker 7: this type of stuff as politics.
- 53:31Speaker 4: That's how I feel.
- 53:32Speaker 7: I think he does this kind of stuff because he
- 53:35Speaker 7: knows it's gonna look good in the owner here. The
- 53:37Speaker 7: owner already likes, has a soft spot for him. We
- 53:40Speaker 7: know that, and and he's gonna see him. It's not
- 53:43Speaker 7: a mistake that the guys that were there. I don't
- 53:47Speaker 7: think that Jonathan Jones and Jwan Bentley just showed up
- 53:51Speaker 7: because they felt like it.
- 53:54Speaker 1: What do you mean you think they were asked to
- 53:56Speaker 1: be there?
- 53:56Speaker 7: Yes, okay, because those are two guys that are very
- 54:00Speaker 7: representative of the organization to stand up guys once an
- 54:04Speaker 7: actual captain and Jonathan Jones might as well.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Be a captain Man of the Year kind of guys.
- 54:10Speaker 7: And both of them had scrumps afterwards and talked to
- 54:13Speaker 7: the media about Girod, which I.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Thought was odd, okay and interesting unless they were no
- 54:21Speaker 1: no asked, hey, can you represent players up there? Yeah,
- 54:26Speaker 1: now I could see that being.
- 54:29Speaker 7: And then and then Mac comes in and I agree,
- 54:33Speaker 7: like and then some of the other people on the beat,
- 54:35Speaker 7: who maybe they've talked to people I don't know, have
- 54:38Speaker 7: squashed this and said that this is what he does.
- 54:41Speaker 7: But what he has done working out in the facility
- 54:44Speaker 7: last year doesn't mean that he's working out in the
- 54:46Speaker 7: facility this year.
- 54:48Speaker 1: It doesn't. But again, like I kind of not that
- 54:50Speaker 1: I listen. I'm not advocating him to be the starting
- 54:53Speaker 1: quarterback next year. But you know, he's a human being.
- 54:57Speaker 1: He was a captain, he's under contract, he's still part
- 54:59Speaker 1: of the team until further notice.
- 55:01Speaker 4: I have no problem with him being the.
- 55:04Speaker 1: People do.
- 55:05Speaker 4: I don't think there's a lot of people who his
- 55:08Speaker 4: teammates aside his teammates seemed like they did because they
- 55:10Speaker 4: feel like he was his teammates that that we were questioning,
- 55:15Speaker 4: you know, his motives. That's different. I'm not questioning his motive.
- 55:20Speaker 4: I'm saying I don't understand how that it's I read
- 55:24Speaker 4: one piece and I don't remember where that said. They
- 55:28Speaker 4: literally took him out of the weight room that day
- 55:31Speaker 4: and he came upstairs. He happened to be in the
- 55:33Speaker 4: weight room that day and he came up like, I'm sorry,
- 55:37Speaker 4: that's not part of the conversation at all. Like I
- 55:40Speaker 4: think you're trying to portray something that isn't there. Like
- 55:45Speaker 4: Evan explained this, he works harder than everybody else, kind
- 55:49Speaker 4: of thing, which I think probably rubbed some players the
- 55:52Speaker 4: wrong way because they don't think it's true.
- 55:54Speaker 7: I just I don't have no problem with him being there.
- 55:58Speaker 7: Most angles that you guys have already broughten up. I
- 56:01Speaker 7: just think that this is a player that has already
- 56:05Speaker 7: lost faith in the locker room, Like the locker room
- 56:07Speaker 7: does not believe in mac Jones at this juncture, right,
- 56:10Speaker 7: And I think that he goes about certain things and
- 56:13Speaker 7: it's not necessarily on purpose or malicious or anything like that,
- 56:16Speaker 7: but he him being there, I think is him playing
- 56:19Speaker 7: the game.
- 56:20Speaker 4: I think it's him.
- 56:21Speaker 7: It could be, and I think that a lot of
- 56:23Speaker 7: ways he carries himself like a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 56:29Speaker 7: I agree with Fred to an extent that I think
- 56:30Speaker 7: that he does put a lot of work into it.
- 56:32Speaker 7: I think that he does watch a lot of film
- 56:35Speaker 7: and work out it is do it. He does all
- 56:37Speaker 7: of the right things, but when it gets on the field,
- 56:40Speaker 7: it doesn't translate.
- 56:42Speaker 4: Just my point would be, I guess, in a nutshell,
- 56:45Speaker 4: I don't need my quarterback in the middle of January
- 56:48Speaker 4: in the weight room as proof that he works hard.
- 56:52Speaker 4: I don't need that.
- 56:53Speaker 1: To me.
- 56:54Speaker 4: It's performative, But if he wants to do it, I
- 56:57Speaker 4: don't need it. I'd rather have him working on film,
- 57:00Speaker 4: you know, doing something else, or trying to figure out
- 57:03Speaker 4: how I.
- 57:03Speaker 1: Think I'm gonna lift it a weight in his life.
- 57:05Speaker 4: This is true, and I was trying. I was, I
- 57:07Speaker 4: was going to get to something on that, but never mind,
- 57:09Speaker 4: all right, But I do think that there is an
- 57:11Speaker 4: element of him sort of maybe trying to figure out
- 57:17Speaker 4: a way to get out of here, and he figures
- 57:19Speaker 4: that might be the best way.
- 57:20Speaker 1: All right, Paul's foods here, so we got to get
- 57:22Speaker 1: out of here. We'll be right back after we eat

- 58:20Speaker 15: Faith Well joining me again as always, and we have
- 58:23Speaker 15: some trivia. I don't even know if they're reading the
- 58:25Speaker 15: trivia anymore, but we're doing it. If they read it
- 58:27Speaker 15: on air, you're gonna win something. Send your answers in
- 58:29Speaker 15: the web radio at Patriots dot com. So here's question one.
- 58:32Speaker 15: I guess we got a little playoff themed trivia here.
- 58:36Speaker 15: Faith came up with these, so if they're not factually accurate,
- 58:39Speaker 15: it's on her. But question one, what was Arrowhead Stadium
- 58:43Speaker 15: called before it was officially named Arrowhead Stadium?
- 58:46Speaker 1: All right?
- 58:48Speaker 15: Question two? What was the first Super Bowl championship for
- 58:51Speaker 15: the Ravens? Who did they beat in? What was the score?
- 58:54Speaker 15: And question three, what's the name of the Lions mascot?
- 58:58Speaker 15: The lovable losers now the lovable winners to say, don't.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Go on that now, all right?
- 59:05Speaker 15: So we got some some start bench cuts real quick.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Fay came up with these.
- 59:09Speaker 15: I'll read them but we'll see what we got, So
- 59:12Speaker 15: start Bench, cut QB Edition, Rock Party, Lamar Jackson, and
- 59:17Speaker 15: Josh Allen.
- 59:18Speaker 16: Okay, So when I was coming up with these, I
- 59:20Speaker 16: tried to pick like top three or bottom three things
- 59:22Speaker 16: so it wouldn't be like obvious answers. So and since
- 59:26Speaker 16: we're in the playoffs, I'm gonna think of this as like,
- 59:29Speaker 16: I'm in the playoffs, who do I want leading my
- 59:31Speaker 16: team at QB one. I think I'm gonna start Lamar.
- 59:36Speaker 16: I know he doesn't have a great record in the
- 59:38Speaker 16: playoffs as of right now, and I know that there's
- 59:40Speaker 16: some like there was some question around him, like winning
- 59:44Speaker 16: at home and stuff like that. But I think in
- 59:47Speaker 16: terms of like command of the offense, being able to
- 59:49Speaker 16: find a way to win, and just like the guy
- 59:52Speaker 16: that I would want to trust my team with, I
- 59:54Speaker 16: think I'm starting Lamar. I think I'm benching Party, and
- 1:00:01Speaker 16: I'm gonna have to have to cut Josh Allen.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Was there some recency buyas to that.
- 1:00:06Speaker 9: No, Because honestly, I wanted the Bills to win.
- 1:00:09Speaker 16: I thought the Bills could find a way to win,
- 1:00:11Speaker 16: and I think Josh Allen is somebody who certainly has
- 1:00:13Speaker 16: the talent and can get it done. But I think
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: in crunch situation he tries to be somebody he's not,
- 1:00:20Speaker 16: or at least he pushes himself and puts the team
- 1:00:23Speaker 16: not in danger. But I think, like early on in
- 1:00:26Speaker 16: the season, we saw him trying to make plays that
- 1:00:28Speaker 16: just weren't there, trying to be more like Patrick Mahomes,
- 1:00:30Speaker 16: And I think when it comes down to crunch.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: Time, I don't know.
- 1:00:33Speaker 16: I wouldn't want Josh Allen at my QB one necessarily.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I might have to pick.
- 1:00:37Speaker 15: I'm gonna flip flop Party and Josh Allen just because
- 1:00:41Speaker 15: Party's got the All Star cast and I like the bit.
- 1:00:44Speaker 15: I don't like the Bills. I like Josh Allen by yeah,
- 1:00:46Speaker 15: and as much as I love seeing them lose it
- 1:00:48Speaker 15: spin It's spin Oh so great, all these these losses
- 1:00:53Speaker 15: to Mahomes just aren't his fault.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I know he is a.
- 1:00:57Speaker 15: Kicker missing a forty four yard field goal, he scores
- 1:01:00Speaker 15: with fifteen seconds left, and then they score with thirteen left,
- 1:01:03Speaker 15: So I'm gonna flip that for that.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: For now, I'm gonna see.
- 1:01:07Speaker 15: I'm interested to see what happens with Party when he
- 1:01:10Speaker 15: it's time for him to actually get paid, and then
- 1:01:12Speaker 15: we got his Avengers cast up for contracts again soon,
- 1:01:17Speaker 15: so that'll be interesting. Yeah, all right, we'll go number two.
- 1:01:20Speaker 15: All right, we'll go number three. We'll go three coaches addition,
- 1:01:24Speaker 15: Andy Reid, Kyle Shanahan, Mike McDaniel.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: This is so tough because these are three of my favorites.
- 1:01:29Speaker 15: I feel like, all the first I don't hear what
- 1:01:31Speaker 15: you got? All right, I got, I got Andy Reid first,
- 1:01:35Speaker 15: Mike McDaniel second, Kyle Shanahan cut him.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And here's here's my reasoning.
- 1:01:41Speaker 15: He's just we talk about players not having the clutch factory.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan doesn't have it.
- 1:01:45Speaker 15: I think one if McDaniels, I don't know if he's
- 1:01:48Speaker 15: hooked to TUA. Yeah, I can't really trust to it
- 1:01:50Speaker 15: right now. Shanahan's blown twenty eight.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: To three mm hm.
- 1:01:54Speaker 15: Was he was the oc for that got the the
- 1:01:57Speaker 15: forty nine Ers Super Bowl against the Chiefs. Just it's
- 1:02:00Speaker 15: he always goes wrong.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like this.
- 1:02:03Speaker 16: Is tough because, like I personally I love Mike McDaniel.
- 1:02:06Speaker 16: I think he's a very hilarious, fun, like good culture guy.
- 1:02:11Speaker 16: I feel like we haven't seen quite enough of the
- 1:02:14Speaker 16: Dolphins in him, Like Andy Reid is someone who's been
- 1:02:17Speaker 16: around the league for so long, so I feel like,
- 1:02:19Speaker 16: you know, he's so established. I think I I would
- 1:02:23Speaker 16: agree with your list. It's tough to cut Shanahan because
- 1:02:27Speaker 16: I feel like he's had such an impact on offenses
- 1:02:30Speaker 16: around the league, Like you can recognize certain like Shanahan
- 1:02:33Speaker 16: schemes when you see it, and so I think that's
- 1:02:35Speaker 16: it's tough to cut him. But I think you're right
- 1:02:37Speaker 16: about that clutch factor. And so all right, we'll agree
- 1:02:42Speaker 16: with Andy Reid, Mike McDaniel, and Kasha.
- 1:02:45Speaker 15: Let's see what happens at the end of this year.
- 1:02:46Speaker 15: Maybe maybe he wins it all go line. Imagine I
- 1:02:51Speaker 15: like this one, all right, Bill's Mafia Chiefs Kingdom Ravens.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: Flock, so.
- 1:02:59Speaker 16: Truthfully, that might be my order. That actually might be
- 1:03:02Speaker 16: my order. I feel like you gotta start Bill's Mafia.
- 1:03:04Speaker 16: I mean, you got fans out there shoveling snow, shoving
- 1:03:07Speaker 16: their seats. I of course, being on the outside, they're
- 1:03:11Speaker 16: kind of obnoxious, but I can't imagine how fun it
- 1:03:14Speaker 16: must be to be a part of that fan base.
- 1:03:16Speaker 16: And if you're fully bought in, like all the ups
- 1:03:19Speaker 16: and downs, the snow games, Like, I just think they
- 1:03:21Speaker 16: are ride or die, And I think if you were
- 1:03:23Speaker 16: a part of it, you love it a lot more
- 1:03:25Speaker 16: than when you're outside of it. So for that reason,
- 1:03:27Speaker 16: I feel like I gotta start Bill's mafia. Chiefs Kingdom
- 1:03:31Speaker 16: has my my Queen, Taylor Swift, so I'm gonna go
- 1:03:34Speaker 16: with them at the bench. And then Ravens Flock. They're dedicated.
- 1:03:37Speaker 16: But out of the list of.
- 1:03:40Speaker 15: I got Ravens Flock, start them. It was benching Bill's
- 1:03:45Speaker 15: Mafia for the reasons you said. I think they're just
- 1:03:47Speaker 15: getting a little cocky for no reason.
- 1:03:50Speaker 9: If you were a part of it, you would be
- 1:03:51Speaker 9: obnoxious too.
- 1:03:53Speaker 15: I'll win something, win something. I'll put them number one.
- 1:03:56Speaker 15: And Chiefs Kingdom they are, they're they're new. It's got
- 1:04:00Speaker 15: lucky with my Yeah, it's come on like they are.
- 1:04:03Speaker 15: They are, they are the worst. Like they gotta go.
- 1:04:06Speaker 15: It's got them got Ravens, Ravens Flock. I think you'll
- 1:04:10Speaker 15: see them when the Baltimore Ravens go to the super Bowl, Okay,
- 1:04:14Speaker 15: and you'll see what happens. But uh, Faith, that was
- 1:04:17Speaker 15: a quick one who gainly noticed that it's time to

- 1:07:17Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: History.
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: Animals get in.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: You put a bunch of cord over there, but that
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: doesn't take it that it doesn't. I just put a
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: bunch of cord over the lids.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: So the animal so Eric and I just like wait
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: until the morning I wake up. Take the barrel, push
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: it out in from the garage to the front, and
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: I owe you might you might have a lot. You
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: have to take it on the grounds. So from your
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: house to the street is probably. But I also have
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: humbersome projects. But for me it's like two inches.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: But you know I don't have sandwich right the sandwiches
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: say get deliveries, yes, okay, wait right, so when you
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: get your deligen you immediately break down the box. Yes,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: when you get it, Yes, I don't. Yeah, I wait,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: I wait until for what? I wait until trash night
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: and then I break down the box.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: That depends like I'll take it. I'll take the biggest potion.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: No, it's not. That's very efficient.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: Off, I get it. Throw a lot of stuff in
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: that that bigger box. As long as it taking a pH.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: It depends on how many deliveries I got.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: No, but I mean like your average box you take,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: you get like a knife or a.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Blade or something. It takes minutes, A couple of minutes. Yeah,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: it takes five seconds. Five seconds? What are you see?
- 1:08:28Speaker 10: What are you?
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: Five seconds? You cut the you cut the break it down.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: You gotta fold it up.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: That doesn't take ten minutes for it.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I didn't say ten minutes. Did I say ten minutes?
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: That's another great moment from all Right, breaking down boxes
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: and an argument over recycling. This show is brought to
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: you by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. Great
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: memories are made in Massachusetts, no matter how you choose
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: to make them, indoors or outdoors, scenic views or city vibes,

- 1:08:59Speaker 1: plan your perfect Massachusetts getaway at VISITMA dot com. We
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: had trivia during the halftime show.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: I'm very excited about that.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Oh okay, well we didn't have a winner for the
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: first answer, Paul, first question, so maybe.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: You must be very vague. Then what was the.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: First Super Bowl championship for the Ravens and who did
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: they play? And what was the score?
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: First championship for the Ravens was two thousand. They played
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: to beat the Giants thirty four to seven.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: You got it. People didn't get that Super Bowl thirty five.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: What is the name of the Lions mascot? No idea
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Harley Tomorrow you want to take a shot at That's
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: what I want, Rory Alex and Wilmington dot That that
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: makes sense? And what was Arrowhead Stadium before arrow Arrowhead Stadium?
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: Oh, I definitely do not know.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I'm not good with stadium, War Memorial, Municipal Stadium. And
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: guess who the and I don't know if this guess
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: who the water was Chris Gogelos, former video director here.
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: We don't know how to quit us.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: We miss him and miss everybody listens. Everybody listens, Chris.
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: He likes my tweets from time to time, and this
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: is a nice little reminder of.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: You know, Okay, I want to get to some emails.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I know we have calls lined up, but I want
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: to make way for some of our emailers. A lot
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: of emails electronic. Yeah, we have a lot of emails.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Let's see Dan writes in Virginia and Michigan, Paul, I
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: don't under estimate Fred's insights into Tom Brady. Remember Fred
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: knows Tom intimately.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: This is correct. Andrew Good, how do you they've kissed?
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: How do you all feel about Nick Kyley as a
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: coaching prospect for the Patriots? Is it too much of
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: the same old people or does his time outside New
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: England give you hope that he would bring enough of
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: a difference or improvement to the offense. Second part, Okay.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: I'm a little lukewarm on the Nick Cayley thing.
- 1:11:13Speaker 7: I would rather him not be like. My home run
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: would be to bring both of them, Zach Robinson and
- 1:11:21Speaker 7: Nick Cayley and have Zach Robinson as the offensive coordinator
- 1:11:25Speaker 7: slash quarterbacks coach and Nick Keyley as tight ends maybe
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: run game coordinator. You know, since Zach Robinson's backgrounds more
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: in past.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: I'd be interested in that.
- 1:11:33Speaker 7: I would bring both of them back if I could,
- 1:11:35Speaker 7: but I wouldn't necessarily run to give Kaylee the the
- 1:11:39Speaker 7: OC title.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Mike in South something, New Jersey, South Brunswick, South Brunswick, Saddlebrook,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: he's spelled bok. There you go. But now he's in Winchester, Virginia,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: so not even in New Englander. I don't know why
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: he needs to tell me that. But anyway, just finished
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Thursday show and I don't want to spoil things, but
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: boy do I hope rkk's feeling about Mayo is as
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: good as Fred's feelings for the league. Always fun to
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: listen to you guys talk about what you think will
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: happen after I've watched the game. Some takes age like Milk,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: keep up the great work, PS, please get Hearty back
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: for pre and Post. Can't go through another big Jim
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: Murray experiment a year with all this other organizational change.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: I need some sort of continuity. Back up the Brinks
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: truck if you need to. For the love of God,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: well now he's doing very well in the morning.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: That's we're not cutting into the budget.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the part that there is no budget for
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: the postgame show. But anyway, No, he's doing well. Yeah,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: he's doing well yesterday.
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: Yeah I heard you on with him yesterday.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Good Cole and Denver. Are you gonna get Mayo
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: on the show? Come on, Fred, use your institutional power
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: to get the fans what they want. Thirty minutes of
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: soap with a lot with a slot featuring the Patriots
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: new head coach. Seriously, though, what questions would you ask him?
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I like to know which traits he is looking for
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: in an oc?
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: Yeah, why hasn't he been on the show yet?
- 1:13:07Speaker 12: Bred?
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: A little busy? The request is in.
- 1:13:11Speaker 9: They'll be on eventually eventually.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, a little hurt. Oh he's a little
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: bit busy right now.
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: But we'll not busy. We'll get busy FREEI.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Apparently, well that was kind of a contractual type of thing.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: But we'll get him.
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: Okay, I'll back off.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: Yeah, well but it's you know, what questions would you ask?
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Yeah? I think that.
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: His offensive vision just we Paul and I have kind
- 1:13:37Speaker 7: of beat this dead horse. But do you want to
- 1:13:40Speaker 7: win games thirteen to ten or you are you trying
- 1:13:43Speaker 7: to actually build an offense that could win a game
- 1:13:45Speaker 7: thirty to twenty?
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Seven.
- 1:13:46Speaker 7: You know, I think that that's a big part of
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: it and a big part of what how they're going
- 1:13:51Speaker 7: to build this roster is going to be dependent on
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: how he wants to play, not just I think, you know,
- 1:13:57Speaker 7: what are the type of offense, the system, like not
- 1:13:59Speaker 7: that type of stuff, but more about the mentality of
- 1:14:02Speaker 7: you know, do you your defensive minded guy, like do you
- 1:14:04Speaker 7: want to score points?
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:14:06Speaker 7: Is that how important is that to you versus playing
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: you know, a bogged down style like they have been.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: Yeah, And I would just say to you, Fred, there's
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: people that you know, kind of mocking your feel for
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: the league. Yeah, they might want to tune in on Thursday, right.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, backing up the boss man, yep, Jared.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: From Indeed has a feel for the league.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Jared in Vermont, uh two points, he says. Paul said
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: last week the rate of first round quarterbacks being bus
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: is equal to any other position. There is no chance
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: that's true because some quarterbacks are bus at least in
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: part because of the situation they're in. Can you think
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: of any tackle, center, quarterback, or edge rusher who was
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: talented and didn't pan out because the team around him
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: was bad or the coaching was inadequate. This happens every
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: year with quarterbacks. I don't know about that, but.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: Oh, I could think of a million examples of guys
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: that failed for all kinds of reasons. I think some guys,
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: and this might surprise people, some guys just don't really
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: like playing. They do it because they were given a gift,
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: you know, and in some cases it's a gift of size.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: And you know, I can think of one of the
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: guy on the Patriots last year that I mean.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: There was a guy, remember Justin Smith edge Rusher, and
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I think he got drafted by the Bengals.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Sounds familiar and like he was a great.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: Player, but not with the Bengal. Didn't he get traded?
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: No, with the Bengals, he was like the fourth overall pick.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: He was a really good player.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: All right. I didn't think he was as good as
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: he was gonna should have been.
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: I think we're thinking about the same guy.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Maybe, I don't know.
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: He was pretty good. Okay, but how about Robert Gallery, Yeah,
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: well he just exactly But where did he get taken?
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: I mean Eric Fisher was the like number one overall
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: pick of the draft, but he's kind.
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: Of yeah, there There definitely have been guys that non
- 1:15:57Speaker 7: quarterbacks like that have just been fine or have had
- 1:16:00Speaker 7: long careers, but we're never as good as the pick.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Well, how many first round like defensive backs get taken
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: that you just never hear of. They're just nondescript.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: This is my point. There's busts at every position. Yeah,
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: like Jeff okug it's just not good job. Yeah right now.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: My point is when it's a quarterback, it's there forever
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: for everybody to remember because it's such a high profile guy.
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: We've been talking about Caleb Williams and Drake May for
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: six months every day. So when inevitably at least one
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: of those guys is just average, he'll be considered a
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: colossal bust. Whereas Andrew Thomas is taken at tackle at
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: like number four and it's just meh, no one's going
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: to talk about that in ten years because no one's
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: gonna remember him.
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: I will say that the tackles lately have not panned
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: out quite as well, and I think that that the
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: offensive line play league wide is not as good as
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: he used to be. So I don't think it's just
- 1:17:02Speaker 7: on them that they're not talented enough. But the training,
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: the practice time, the bat practices.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: Not talent like guys get taken. And this is why
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: Robert Gallery might have been talented. No, listen, I'm not
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: going to pretend to know intimately every single guy in
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: the draft. But when you talk about like these quarterbacks
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: that bust out, when your quarterback like Blake Bortles is
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: very talented, like, there are reasons why guys don't make it,
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: and there's a lot of them. You know, it could
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: be like the emailer said, and he's right to bring
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: it all the other factors, you know, like a lack
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: of support, a bad offensive system, maybe a system that
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: didn't fit his skills. Maybe it was poor offensive line play,
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: you know, maybe they never had a defense and he
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: was always trying to do too much. And you know
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: David Carr getting the you know, the crap pounded out
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: of him every week. Whatever. Right, there's a million different reasons.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: But when you get taken that high in the draft,
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: very rarely do they look back at a bus and say,
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: you know what, that he just he wasn't good. He
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: just didn't have any ability at any position. I'm not
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: telling you never, but yeah, a lot of these guys
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: and That's why it bugs me when they say the
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: number one overall picks never do anything because they don't count,
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: like Jared Goff or Matthew Stafford, because they're not doing
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: it with their original team.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: The idea is to pick a guy you think is
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: talented enough to be taken in the slot that he is.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: And I don't know how anyone can tell me Matthew
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: Stafford wasn't talented enough to be the number one overall pick.
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: Yeah, that's the hardest part of the draft. The hardest
- 1:18:38Speaker 7: part of the draft is that these are all human
- 1:18:40Speaker 7: beings and whether it's situation, whether it's motivation, whether it's
- 1:18:45Speaker 7: any of these other factors.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Is he Brady or is he Jay Cutler?
- 1:18:49Speaker 7: They can all replace the talent like they can all
- 1:18:52Speaker 7: it can all supersede the talent if they're not wired correctly,
- 1:18:56Speaker 7: if they're fragile, if they're not motivated.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: It's a big jump from college. But there's no way
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: even if you're in the SEC.
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: But there's no way of knowing if a guy is wired,
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: to use Evans's term, like Tom Brady, or if he's
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: wired like Jay Cutler. Jay Cutler was wildly talented, right,
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: and he didn't care, Like there's a million reasons why
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: these things happen.
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: Also, it's like, I feel like so different when you're
- 1:19:22Speaker 8: kind of playing a sport as a hobby, like it's
- 1:19:24Speaker 8: not like your entire day, and then turning it into
- 1:19:27Speaker 8: a job where you're literally doing something football related all
- 1:19:30Speaker 8: day long.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: Yeah, let's see. Jared also says the Patriots are abnormally
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: devoid of talent. To make a baseball analogy, we're down
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: ten with no one on base, Why swing for the fence.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: We need to choke up on the bat and get
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: a couple runners on. Take Harrison Junior, Joe All or
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: trade back. If we wave from this pick, we're circling
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: the drain for a while.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: So I just my only pushback on that, and I'm
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: not telling you you're wrong, but my only pushback on
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: that is, why do we assume that Joe Walt is
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: safer than Jayden Daniels or or anybody else like that
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: there's a chance evaluation safer, Like it just is like maybe,
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: but we'll see.
- 1:20:11Speaker 7: I mean, but we just talked about like all the
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: reasons why it might not go that direction. But like
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: from my vantage point, just watching the two guys play
- 1:20:21Speaker 7: the flaws that Jayden Daniels has compared to the flaws
- 1:20:24Speaker 7: that joelt has. Joel should be a very very good
- 1:20:27Speaker 7: lineman for the next decade. Is it gonna pan out
- 1:20:30Speaker 7: exactly like that? Of course I know it.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: But don't you think that if someone if someone looks
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: at Jaden Daniels and picks him at three, you don't
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: think they're thinking, this is a guy, this is the
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: guy that's gonna be my quarterback for the next year.
- 1:20:41Speaker 7: I think that for all three of these guys, you
- 1:20:44Speaker 7: are picking them based purely off of ceiling. I don't
- 1:20:49Speaker 7: I don't think that any one of them has a
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: particularly high floor, to be honest, because they're all toolsy like.
- 1:20:57Speaker 7: They're like a lot of what is there. Allure is
- 1:21:00Speaker 7: is physical gifts and whether or not you can harness that,
- 1:21:03Speaker 7: you can develop that and you can put it in
- 1:21:05Speaker 7: a perfect situation, is going to all be the X
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: factors in their careers.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Let's see, I don't know who this is one gino.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Maybe I'm curious about what the Patriots are saying and
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: doing when it comes to hiring coordinators. Craft says he
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: doesn't want to go outside the organization to hire a
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: GM in other positions, but yet Mayo is scheduling interviews.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Who's running the show and how are they going about it?
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Because it seems like they're doing everything but doing nothing
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: at the same time.
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: Mayo's running the show.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: I think it is right now. I think it's Drod.
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: Mayo with some input and help from Elliott, Wolfen and.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Macro in the coordinator situation.
- 1:21:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I think so, especially Elliott, who's pretty well connected
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: around the line.
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: I was told that those guys, Yeah, did you just
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: say this? I was reading a text that they were
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: actually in on the interviews. Is that what you just
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: I did not know that. Okay. I was told that
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: Grow in Wolf or with Mayo in these interviews.
- 1:22:00Speaker 8: What are the odds that Grow sticks around after the draft?
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: Not very high, I would say, as of right now, Elliott,
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: that's how I feel Wolf is staying and Grow is going.
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: But no one has told me that. It's just my feeling.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: Samuel in Charlotte, Dan and Ninko had an interesting conversation
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: on their podcast this week, and I don't think Ninko
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: really entertained Dan's argument. The debate was who had the
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: final say with the Patriots. Dan seemed to think it's
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: Robert Kraft. I sure, hope it's not. Craft doesn't have
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: a football background. Why do you think, who do you
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: think has the final say in the draft room or
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: free agency?
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: I think that's a different argument. I have no idea.
- 1:22:38Speaker 7: Yeah, Like I think that from like a big picture,
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: thirty thousand feet view. Obviously, the owner is gonna kind
- 1:22:44Speaker 7: of have final say on most organizational things, Like if
- 1:22:47Speaker 7: you want to make Zach Robbinson your offensive coordinator, he
- 1:22:50Speaker 7: has a full list of suitors and like ten interviews
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: lined up. You're gonna have to pay him a lot
- 1:22:55Speaker 7: of money to come here to be a coordinator. That
- 1:22:58Speaker 7: decision ultimately is gonna have to be consulted with the owner.
- 1:23:01Speaker 7: Like you're not going to just hand some Gerond Mayo
- 1:23:03Speaker 7: is not handing somebody a huge check.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I big when it's this big money. I think Craft
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: has to write.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: But who they're going to take in the sixth round
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: of the draft, Like, no, But I don't have the
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: answer as to who has the final say it out either.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Johnny in Mad Town, Paul, thank you sincerely for pointing
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: out the boom or bust rhetorics surrounding the Packers. As
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: a native Mayner that's lived in Wisconsin for twenty years,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I can't stand how the media and fans were ready
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: to ship Jordan Love to Mars one minute and then
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: ready to build a statue the next. But I also
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: have a bone to pick. You call Dan Campbell more
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: or less a beefed up moron. He now has Detroit.
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: It was probably me that sounds like an but I
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: didn't actually, But I don't think. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: I don't think a lot of him as a As
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: a I can't, but I'm not going to back away from.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: He now has a Detroit, a mild upset away from
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: a super Bowl that I think they could actually win
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: regardless of the opponent. Are you ready to walk back
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: your Dan Campbell opinion? Or is it double downtime?
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: Double downtime Let's see what he does next year. Yeah,
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: I'm probably in the middle. I'm not as strong negatively
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: about Dan Campbell as that email is making it out
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: to be. But I also don't think he's done. I
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: think he's a good motivator. I think they play hard
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: for him, but I think they've done a good job
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: putting together a good team.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Let's just say they don't get to the super Bowl. Yeah,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: next year they're in the playoffs again.
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: I think he's I think he's done a great jobs.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Were in the playoffs again? Is that?
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: Are we is Nick Sirianna were crowning him?
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: But does that mean he's Nick sirian is a bad
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: Does anybody that doesn't win the Super Bowl a bad coach?
- 1:24:37Speaker 8: You know?
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: But he kept his job by a thread?
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Okay, but I'm just saying, well, they had they kind
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: of had a collapse.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: Right, you know, but they still won eleven games?
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, but early and then they collapsed. I
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: kind of like the Patriots that first year of Mac.
- 1:24:52Speaker 7: My whole, my whole thing with with Dan Campbell is
- 1:24:55Speaker 7: that I think he's a great motivator. I think that
- 1:24:59Speaker 7: he I think guy follow him. I think that he's
- 1:25:02Speaker 7: got all of those types of intangible qualities that you
- 1:25:05Speaker 7: love in a in a leader and a head coach.
- 1:25:08Speaker 7: But when it comes down to it, I think that
- 1:25:11Speaker 7: his coordinators are doing the heavy lifting on the schematic side.
- 1:25:14Speaker 7: So when Ben Johnson takes a head coaching.
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: Which I don't understand because their defense is wretchedly bad.
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: But yeah, it's well, it's bad because they have some
- 1:25:23Speaker 7: they have ways to go on that side of the
- 1:25:25Speaker 7: ball in terms of personnel, especially in the secondary, but
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: he does a nice job of cooking it up. They
- 1:25:31Speaker 7: just I look at the Eagles as a great example
- 1:25:33Speaker 7: because they made the Super Bowl and it turns out
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: that both their coordinators and that Super Bowl were probably
- 1:25:39Speaker 7: pretty good coaches, especially Steichen And now they lose both
- 1:25:43Speaker 7: of them, and they're they're one and done in their
- 1:25:46Speaker 7: train wreck in Siriani's almost fired.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: So let's see what happens with Dan Campbell. He's having
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: a great year, so let's see how And I would
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: agree that with you, Fred, I give Dan Campbell more
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: credit than probably Yes, I will say, I'll walk that back.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: I think he's done a better job than I would
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: have thought he was capable of. But I also want
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: to examine some of the things of why I don't
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: necessarily think he's a great coach. Okay, very simple. They
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: pick off a pass with a minute thirty three left
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: in the game. Tampa Bay has a timeout left. What
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: do you do? What do you do? There's a minute
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: thirty three left. You have the ball up eight.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so you're up eight, right.
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: Just take you're taking knees, right, but when music time?
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: But when do you take the knee? I mean obviously
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: the first down. You know the clock. First down, I
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: take a knee. Bang. Okay. So now the clock is
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: running at one thirty three. You don't take your next
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: nap until win one second on the play clock if
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: they don't call timeout. Right, he took it with thirteen
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: seconds on the play clock, okay. Then the next play
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: there was eleven seconds on the playclock, which allowed it
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: to be fourth down with thirty eight seconds left in
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: the game. Now, for some reason, Todd Bowles didn't recognize
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: this gift that he was handed and didn't use that
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: last time out because, quote after the game, Todd bole said, well,
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: they're going to just kick the field goal anyway, so
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: we're going to be down ten with not enough time.
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: It would have been a forty eight yard field goal
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: that I don't even think Detroit would have attempted. I
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: think they would have punted. But that's recklessness, that's that's
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: being too excited at the time to get everybody on
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: the same page and say, if they're not going to
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: call time, out. We still got to wait till one
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: second on the play clock because if they call time out,
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: they could force us to have to run a fourth
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: down play. But if they do, let's make sure it's
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: with less than five seconds left.
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: L coach, may I recommend the Paul Perrello school of
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: clock fred management.
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: Don't like I know that, Like I care about this
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: more than most. I get it, okay, but this was
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: rampant on Twitter on Sunday. Immediately. I looked at the
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: TV when it was third and twelve and there was
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: still so much time left. And I looked at Beth.
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: I said, that's got to be wrong. It's got to
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: only be second down. There's too much time left. I
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: was and I was like, he just took the set.
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: There was like eleven seconds, so I'm like, what is
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: he doing? I go, now they've got to run a
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: playland full it down. But Bulls just said, yeah, we
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: lost anything.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: But is that like I'm like, the court of the
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: coach should be saying, don't snap the phone in.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: The headset, right, Yes, but that's coaching.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: But shouldn't the coordinator be saying that to him too?
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: But you have to that's part of like Listen, when
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: you get the credit, you got to get the blame too.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: But he's a guy that he's gonna he.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: Got emotional, but he was excited and he lost track.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: But he has to rely on good coordinators. I'm not
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: going to deny that. And I wonder if they lost.
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: And by the way, I think similarly of Bill Kauer,
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: who had a terrific career with Pittsburgh. I don't think
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: he was a great coach, right, I think he was
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: a great motivator.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: But well, that's the thing. I think there's something to that.
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: I don't think that absolutely, I don't think.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: I don't think the Lions could be doing what they're
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: doing if Dan Campbell was a coach.
- 1:28:59Speaker 7: Because Dan would Dan amples brought to the Lions his belief.
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: They believe they're no longer the Detroit Lions, and they're
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: no longer and we're no longer going to choke every
- 1:29:07Speaker 7: game away in the end, and we're no longer gonna,
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: you know, be thirty forty years without a playoff win.
- 1:29:13Speaker 7: And that he deserves all the credit in the world
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: for that, Like he instilled the culture there and that's
- 1:29:19Speaker 7: a that's a big part of it.
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: But perhaps not phony, No, like he made them. I
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: think Evan said that perfectly. He made them believe that
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: they weren't going to be the same old sorry Lions.
- 1:29:29Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: But the problem is is that when you start to
- 1:29:31Speaker 7: talk about sustainability and that team actually being good for
- 1:29:35Speaker 7: a period of time and not just a flash in
- 1:29:37Speaker 7: the pan, that's when the x's and o's and that's
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: when the coordinators come in. And I just think the
- 1:29:42Speaker 7: thing that bugs me is that everybody talks that the
- 1:29:44Speaker 7: reason why the Lions are good is because they have
- 1:29:47Speaker 7: grit and they have balls, and Dan Campbell's tough and
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: he's you know, a meet goes and it.
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: Goes for it on for no cost him a lot
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: of games.
- 1:29:54Speaker 7: The reason why the Lions are good is because they've
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: built a great roster and they have great coordinators and
- 1:29:59Speaker 7: those these guys are coaching really really. They got Jared
- 1:30:02Speaker 7: Goff looking like he's a borderline MVP quarterback right now.
- 1:30:06Speaker 7: And that's why the Lions are good, not because Dan
- 1:30:08Speaker 7: Campbell gets red in the face and is gritty and
- 1:30:11Speaker 7: has guts.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: Times for them on Sunday, for sure. But my biggest fear,
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: you know, as a you know, a bandwagon Lions fan.
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: Now is him doing that?
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Yeah, like screwing it up out like they say, coach,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: he can only lose you games.
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: Punton's for you know, you know what's you gotta go
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: for it fourth to one from our own twenty nine.
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: Matt framing him. We haven't really talked about this, he says.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: I'm not surprised Bill O'Brien went to Ohio State. My opinion,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I think he knew the only way to help build
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: up his resume was going elsewhere because the holes of
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: this roster are obvious and too many. Plus Ryan Day
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: is entering a critical year there. Don't be shocked for
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Brian might be the head coach in twenty twenty five
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: unless Rabel enters the picture.
- 1:30:51Speaker 7: I'm not shocked at all that Bill O'Brien left. I
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: am a little bit surprised he went back to college,
- 1:30:56Speaker 7: but I think that might be his only option, so
- 1:30:59Speaker 7: maybe that's why he did it. But it's funny because
- 1:31:02Speaker 7: people at Ohio State are not happy about this hire. Well, theatote, yeah,
- 1:31:07Speaker 7: and they and it was kind of the same feeling
- 1:31:09Speaker 7: that I had when the Patriots hired Bill O'Brien. The
- 1:31:12Speaker 7: people at Alabama were like throwing parades like get him
- 1:31:15Speaker 7: out of the out.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: Of the building, and until they replacement.
- 1:31:19Speaker 7: You're right, And now Bill he comes here and he
- 1:31:21Speaker 7: was kind of the savior and now it's it's back
- 1:31:23Speaker 7: to I don't know, I'm not surprised that he left.
- 1:31:27Speaker 7: I'm not surprised that that he was that he left,
- 1:31:30Speaker 7: But I am a little bit surprised that he went
- 1:31:31Speaker 7: back to college because I don't think this reputation in
- 1:31:34Speaker 7: college is like all that great.
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: It's a good email right down to the Rabel part,
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: because Rabel could be another one of these guys that's
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: left without a chair when the music Defina and I
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: think that this is a big year for Ryan Day
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: and if it doesn't go well, I could see Rabel
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: taking over.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh, let's go back to the Ace ticket hut
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: line eight five to five, Pats five hundred, Raymond's and
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: Saint Louis. Hey, Raymond, how's it going?
- 1:32:00Speaker 11: First time?
- 1:32:00Speaker 18: First time caller, long time listening, but I started listening
- 1:32:06Speaker 18: to twenty eighteen man, and I really appreciate you all
- 1:32:08Speaker 18: for you know, having me a platform for being here
- 1:32:11Speaker 18: in Missouri. You know, everyone's a Chiefs fan or you know,
- 1:32:15Speaker 18: old Rams fan, so everyone hates me being a Patriots fan.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: Sure, So my big question is what's the.
- 1:32:22Speaker 18: Difference between a OC who's coached another team and then
- 1:32:28Speaker 18: a positional coach like a quarterback.
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: Coach experience as mostly as an experience as a play caller,
- 1:32:37Speaker 7: you know. Like that's my biggest fear right now with
- 1:32:41Speaker 7: what's going on with the Patriots is that they have
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: a lot of inexperienced coaches on their Yeah.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: A lot of ocs are also the quarterback coach, but
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: there's some teams that have they're separate.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: And the guys they've brought in so far, none of
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: them are called plays, right.
- 1:32:53Speaker 7: None of them have called plays on the offensive side
- 1:32:55Speaker 7: of the ball. I don't think any of them call
- 1:32:57Speaker 7: plays on defense either, So.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: Never mind, I thought you would do on a patrician thing.
- 1:33:03Speaker 7: Then oh no, I hate that too. But that's right now,
- 1:33:07Speaker 7: that's my biggest fear. You have a first time head
- 1:33:09Speaker 7: coach with potentially a first time coordinator and a first
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: time defensive coordinator.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: And possibly a rookie quarterback and possibly a rookie quarterback.
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: But yeah, Raymond is right though, like you know, the
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: quarterbacks coaches, I mean, I think they often get overlooked,
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: but I do think that's a valuable piece to have
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: somebody that they rely on that's not necessarily the same guy.
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: Yeah, and not Jo Judge, but I also really I
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: really like Zach Robinson, and I guess you could probably
- 1:33:34Speaker 7: say the same thing about Dan Pitcher do would agree.
- 1:33:36Speaker 7: But I really like Zach Robinson in particular because he
- 1:33:39Speaker 7: did a lot of quarterback consulting before he got back
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: into coaching. He was one of these, like Jordan Palmer,
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: Tom House type of guys that would like work with
- 1:33:47Speaker 7: guys in the off season on their mechanics and footwork
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: and things like that. So you're not just getting like
- 1:33:53Speaker 7: a guy that can look at it from like an
- 1:33:54Speaker 7: conceptual standpoint next as and O's wise, but also somebody
- 1:33:57Speaker 7: that if they do draft Drake May, you know, can
- 1:34:00Speaker 7: work on his footwork, if they do draft Jayden Daniels,
- 1:34:03Speaker 7: can work on you know, his his footwork, mechanics, all
- 1:34:06Speaker 7: that kind of stuff, and that you need that with
- 1:34:08Speaker 7: a young quarterback. So instead of having to go like
- 1:34:10Speaker 7: external and like sending him to Jordan Palmer over the summer, maybe.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: It's right here, guys, right here, Thanks Raymond, don't be
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: a stranger. Let's go to Wilm, Willem and Pelham. What's
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: up William?
- 1:34:22Speaker 19: Hey Fred?
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: How you doing all right?
- 1:34:24Speaker 11: Okay?
- 1:34:25Speaker 20: Question for for Evan and also a question for Fred,
- 1:34:29Speaker 20: I mean for football for mag Jones one.
- 1:34:33Speaker 19: Now, so I'll just start with Evan first.
- 1:34:35Speaker 20: Evan, you've seen.
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: A lot of things, man, Like you know that's what
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: I do.
- 1:34:41Speaker 20: From quarterbacks, you know, from the draft and everything quarterback.
- 1:34:45Speaker 20: You're saying, well, we can wait till April. I mean,
- 1:34:46Speaker 20: you're saying a lot of things. I just I'm just
- 1:34:49Speaker 20: trying to figure out what do Evan want with the
- 1:34:53Speaker 20: number three pick?
- 1:34:53Speaker 19: What do you want? Like, I don't, I don't know.
- 1:34:55Speaker 19: You just all over the place right now.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: There's so much unknown covering your basis.
- 1:35:00Speaker 7: I I just it's so much unknown, Like you're you're
- 1:35:03Speaker 7: were in January. There's they don't have coordinator.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: What do you want? What do I want?
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, Like I'm not in charge.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: So like no, but what if you were in charge?
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: What would you want to know? I'm on the artful
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Dodger over.
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: Here, because what are they doing in free agency? What's
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: the roster look like? Come? April twenty eighth, Like until
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: I know that, I can't give you a straight answer.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: But if you're the guy creating, you had all the
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: power number.
- 1:35:29Speaker 20: Three, you don't want to receiver, you want to tackle.
- 1:35:31Speaker 19: You want to what do you have?
- 1:35:33Speaker 7: I would take the quarter If I was one hundred
- 1:35:35Speaker 7: percent sold on the quarterback, I would take the quarterback.
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: If I wasn't, then I take the tackle. That that
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: if you want, you want me to commit to an aig.
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: He likes Joe Walt. He's on I think you're on
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: record is saying that he tweeted about a bunch of
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: clips about Joel today that I saw he's just fill.
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: I would if you can't get a quarterback, I would
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: trade down and take a tackle. But I mean, that
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: guy is just that. That's what does it for me?
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: William.
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: Just give me, give me Joe Alt, and give me.
- 1:36:03Speaker 7: Some some offensive linemen that can move their feet, that
- 1:36:07Speaker 7: can block people and keep the quarterback clean.
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: That's what.
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: But that's why I'm so on the fence about everything
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: is because we've got a long way to go. I
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: know everybody wants answers, but you know we're.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: I think William's not asking what you think is gonna happen.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: He wants to know what you want to do.
- 1:36:22Speaker 7: Yeah, but we're like, you know, next week, I'll like,
- 1:36:24Speaker 7: I'm going down to Mobile to the Senior Bowl. There's
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: a bunch of guys that are going to be there
- 1:36:28Speaker 7: that I'm looking forward to seeing. And then we have
- 1:36:30Speaker 7: the combine and like, there's we got a long way
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: to go.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: I'm easy with thanks. I want Drake May, but doesn't
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: mean he's gonna.
- 1:36:36Speaker 7: Be I definitely these days, I'm definitely feeling myself leaning
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: towards Drake May as well, but mostly just because of
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: the guys that they've interviewed for the coordinator job.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: Ben and Brooklyn. While I think he's going to Atlanta
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: and that is this prolonged search creates the illusion of
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: extensive search with an eye towards the Rooney rule. Isn't
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Bill's best fallback option? Navy low bar easy to show
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: improvement and coming full circle with Steve. Also about Tampa
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: going for two this I wanted to talk. People don't
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: understand that probability is a tool best used for large
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: sample sizes. Probability also ignores the situation in terms of
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: context and doesn't consider consequences. Even if I could win
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: one hundred million dollars, I'm not going to play Russian
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Roulette with five out of six odds. I think there's
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: also an emotional setback after failing kills momentum and creates
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: and now we have to be completely perfect burden on
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: the team that is trailing. Yeah, so that was the situation.
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: Right in the mouth. I could kiss them right in
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: the mouth. Yeah, that that perfectly encapsulates. Its not that
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: we don't understand it. You don't understand, Paul, You're too.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: Old, My god, No, it's it's not.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: Forbid you disagree with these people like I.
- 1:37:51Speaker 7: I I think the biggest thing uh for me because
- 1:37:54Speaker 7: I am starting to come around to the other, to
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: the Paul side of the fence here. You guys know,
- 1:37:59Speaker 7: I love the math, I love the numbers, but I'm
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: starting to come around to your side of the fence
- 1:38:03Speaker 7: for two reasons. One, I see way too many teams
- 1:38:06Speaker 7: go for two down eight and have a horrible play call.
- 1:38:09Speaker 7: And it's like if you have like just a great
- 1:38:12Speaker 7: two point play, like you're like, this is just a
- 1:38:15Speaker 7: money We really like this play. We really trusted throwing
- 1:38:18Speaker 7: a fade to Mike Evans in the back to the
- 1:38:20Speaker 7: back pylon is not one of those plays I'm talking
- 1:38:22Speaker 7: about one where somebody's just gonna walk in for a
- 1:38:25Speaker 7: two point conversion. If you have one of those types
- 1:38:28Speaker 7: of plays in your back pocket, then fine, But the
- 1:38:30Speaker 7: play call has to matter. And the second thing is
- 1:38:32Speaker 7: I also think the momentum in the game has to matter.
- 1:38:36Speaker 7: That's because the momentum swings if you don't get it,
- 1:38:39Speaker 7: and especially if you're playing on the road, that's a
- 1:38:42Speaker 7: big deal. Like that, Now all of a sudden, the
- 1:38:44Speaker 7: crowd's back, you'll get a lift and everything starts going
- 1:38:48Speaker 7: against you all you know, that's that can happen really quickly.
- 1:38:51Speaker 7: So I don't think that the analytics they don't consider
- 1:38:54Speaker 7: what is the actual play being called? Not should they
- 1:38:57Speaker 7: or shouldn't they, but what's the play?
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: I mean, you think, well, every game play's gonna work.
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: But every game is ruined now too. It's the analytics
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: say's fourth and four or less, go for it. What
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: kind of analytic is that?
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: Am I on my own ten? Am I up by
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: thirty at the time? Like it's not like an every
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: time thing, right? And I'm not anti going for two
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: down eight. I just don't think you do it every
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: time because the odds tell you you're gonna get one
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: of them, which the odds say, I think it's fifty
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: four percent something like that. The odds say you're gonna
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: convert on one of them, right, So but you do
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: it every time. Explained a lot of different ways that
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: you wouldn't do it.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: But Ben brings up a good point about sample size. Yes,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: you only have two, probably two more chances, so you're
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: sample size is two.
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: You have to go one for two.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: If you had ten opportunities that you knew of, okay,
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: I'll get five of them. But when you only have two, you.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: Have to make one right. And when you put yourself
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: in the situation that Tampa did, now, that one that
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: you have to make is the game, is the season's over,
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: or you make it right. I'm sorry if that's not
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: the same as the middle of the second question.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: Would you rather have the season on the line kicking
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: an extra point or having to get.
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: To right and they're not even winning, you're tying. The
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: other part of it that I do recognize, and this
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: is what I'm not anti going for it, because there
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: is I think a possibility, a strong possibility that if
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: you make the first one, it makes the other team
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: even more uptight, like if they had gotten that in
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: Detroit the other day. I'm sorry, there's a big difference
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: between being up six and up seven.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: Oh we know first hand twenty eight three when they started.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: No, but like in that, just in that situation, if
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: they get the two when they get to six, as
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: opposed to kicking it to get to seven seven, they're
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: probably thinking, oh, you know till we got a touchdown lead.
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: You know, we get a touchdown, we go to overtime. Six,
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: it's like Jesus, we have a touchdown, we lose, right
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: like that. Emotionally, that's that's all part of it. But
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: I do think that Tampa took their momentum away yep,
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: by go in. I also say I blame Mike Evans
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: on that. All he had to do was stop and
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: he's gonna get a penalty. Yeah, he didn't get interfered with.
- 1:41:20Speaker 7: I just feel like the play call has to matter.
- 1:41:23Speaker 7: Like I'm sorry, but like high point fades, even to
- 1:41:26Speaker 7: Mike Evans, are low percentage throws and it's not like
- 1:41:29Speaker 7: that's not that's not a play like that's just like
- 1:41:32Speaker 7: two guys trying to make something happen. And then number two,
- 1:41:36Speaker 7: I just think that the time and the place and
- 1:41:38Speaker 7: the environment and the situation. And this is one thing
- 1:41:41Speaker 7: that I will give Bill a lot of credit for
- 1:41:43Speaker 7: when he talks about these kinds of things. Those are
- 1:41:46Speaker 7: all factors for Bill. Now, Bill I think is not
- 1:41:48Speaker 7: aggressive enough. I agree with that, but he factors in
- 1:41:52Speaker 7: whether are they Homer or other way? What's the what,
- 1:41:55Speaker 7: how's the game gone?
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: You know what? What what's the momentum in the game,
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: what's the state of my team physically? We healthy the
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: other team? You know, you know, like we've I think
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: there was a game a couple of years ago that
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: Baltimore went for two with no time, basically with no
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: time left to try to win it because they had
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: lost like three defensive backs in the fourth quarter. They
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: would they knew they weren't going to be able to
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: stop it, and here's an opportunity, and I can make
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: one play and win the game here because I don't
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: have much of a shot in overtime. They didn't get it.
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: They lost, right, But I understand, like I'm not anti
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: aggressiveness on the you know, going with the analytics. I
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: just don't want to hear the numbers. I don't want
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: to hear that this is it's for fifty every time, right.
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: I don't get it because it's not the same because.
- 1:42:38Speaker 7: There's no context, right, Like Never doesn't have this context
- 1:42:40Speaker 7: of the moment of the game.
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: They like, I don't think the odds are fifty to
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: fifty on a two point conversion with no time left
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: down to right.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: And I also think the other teams out there getting
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: paid too, if.
- 1:42:50Speaker 7: You want to if the broadcasts want to lean all
- 1:42:52Speaker 7: the way into analytics, like they kind of have, because
- 1:42:55Speaker 7: people do like it. People want to know people like
- 1:42:57Speaker 7: the numbers. They either need to figure it out on
- 1:43:01Speaker 7: their own so that they can explain it and have
- 1:43:03Speaker 7: and they don't and have a like an actual conversation,
- 1:43:06Speaker 7: or there needs to be like an analytics guru like
- 1:43:09Speaker 7: higher Aaron Schatz to sit in the in the press
- 1:43:11Speaker 7: box and give an explanation as to why they're doing this.
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: And no disrespect to Aaron, who I don't know, but
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: I would kill myself if they did that. Okay, I'm
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: bad enough listening to the nonsense they give you. But
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: instead they just.
- 1:43:23Speaker 7: They they explain it poorly, which gets people even more
- 1:43:27Speaker 7: up in arms about what they're.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: Fourth and four right, so analytics say to go for it,
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: and the oh, okay, so I'm up three touchdowns, but
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: I should go for it on my own thirty right
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: fourth and four. And I know that.
- 1:43:37Speaker 7: You know Seth Walder who does it for ESPN, He's
- 1:43:40Speaker 7: ESPN Analytics, He's he's name the guy, and he tried
- 1:43:44Speaker 7: to explain this on Twitter during one of the games.
- 1:43:47Speaker 7: But like sometimes the win probability that they use is
- 1:43:51Speaker 7: like half a percentage point. It's literally like forty percent
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: chance to win if you go thirty nine point five
- 1:43:58Speaker 7: percent chance if you punt.
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: And there's how do they not go right?
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: And it's what do you mean?
- 1:44:03Speaker 7: Like we're talking about a half a percentage point like it?
- 1:44:07Speaker 7: This is kind of a coin flip to me.
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: So now you look at the game like the Kansas
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: City Buffalo game, right, I think on the first drive
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: of the game, Buffalo had a fourth in inches from
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: their own thirty five, and they went for it. They
- 1:44:21Speaker 4: got it, they got it, So it's a non factor.
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: But I think it's the This is an example of
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: I'm not always anti handlytic. I think it was the
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: right thing. I think you look at that game and
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: you say, I'm playing Patrick Mahomes, I need this much
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: for a first down. I got to take that chance
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: because he's going to score. I'm not going to shut
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: him down, and I need to.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: Move the ball and score.
- 1:44:43Speaker 9: That's what you literally have a bolding boll ball for
- 1:44:47Speaker 9: like a quarterback.
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: But that makes that different than as Fred says, the
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: probability pool that they go by, like, yeah, it's very unconvinced.
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: Like I just was critical of Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: does have Josh Allen. He has a guy in Jerry
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: Goff who's not great on quarterback sneaks, and they they
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: may or may not be playing against the team. Like
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: if it was Sunday against Tampa, I'm not going into
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: that game saying I need I need to put you
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: know a lot of points on the board to win
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: this game. I'm playing Tampa. I've just you know, I'll
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: punt the ball to them and whatever.
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: It was funny there was one sequence in that Lion's
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: game where I think they were on the one yard
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: line first down, and they had two passing plays, very
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: unlike and I think I think Campbell just said just
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: run the ball and then they just ran it right
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: up the middle, easy touchdown.
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: But the second pass play was the one that almost
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: got picked off by Jimmel Dean.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so it was just funny. Like so I
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: think that, you know, Campbell does rely on his coordinators,
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: but I think sometimes he might overrule them.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: You know, he just just assigned to that play. Call
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: to to Campbell, well, I do run pass? Maybe you
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: know Bill does that all the time. You know, Bill
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: just run the ball down to see how Fred the
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: ones that didn't work that the ones that did was
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: Stan Campbell.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: No, but even the announcers are like, they're not running it.
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: I thought it was strange to play call. I think
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: it was like the four yard line or something like that.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Like that often, Uh, Andrew in l A. Paul, do
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: you have a vantage point to see if Fred's food
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: stains and his Emerson shirt are still there from last week?
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Or did he wash his shirt?
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: Fred? Did you wash it? Screw not treating the listeners.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Well, I have seen let's get back to the phone.
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: The Emerson shirt, how do you remember that?
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: What that was?
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: Spicy?
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: I wear it last week.
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: I guess I don't know.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Let's go to dominic in New York. What's up dominic?
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: Hey? How you doing all right? Good?
- 1:46:45Speaker 19: First all, Paul, I think you care just the right
- 1:46:47Speaker 19: himount about the whole time management con situation with the line,
- 1:46:51Speaker 19: I think it's perfect because to me, I agree and
- 1:46:54Speaker 19: with top Bowl saying the game is over listen when
- 1:46:56Speaker 19: you're in the playoffs, give your team a chance to
- 1:46:58Speaker 19: do whatever. Who knows what can happen, But you know,
- 1:47:00Speaker 19: the whole bit and run of y'all going off on
- 1:47:02Speaker 19: like you know, situation. And I'm kind of not anti
- 1:47:06Speaker 19: going forward on burnt down, but like situation, like early
- 1:47:08Speaker 19: in games, maybe you want to set the tone early,
- 1:47:11Speaker 19: you know, maybe you're close to midfield kind of in
- 1:47:12Speaker 19: no man's playing on forty or thirty, right to go
- 1:47:15Speaker 19: forward then, But when you're kind of going forward on
- 1:47:18Speaker 19: your own thirty or your own twenty like the Bills,
- 1:47:20Speaker 19: like you know, Harryston Bucker, great picker who gets that
- 1:47:23Speaker 19: game over for sure there at least in my opinion.
- 1:47:25Speaker 19: So you know, I think to your point in time
- 1:47:27Speaker 19: and momentum is a thing. One thing I want to
- 1:47:31Speaker 19: ask is I've been like looking around like different draft
- 1:47:33Speaker 19: resources like a you know, kind of falling mel Kiper
- 1:47:36Speaker 19: you Sam mock draft. Just looking at draft analysis with qvs.
- 1:47:39Speaker 19: Other players. I want to ask, and I didn't catch
- 1:47:41Speaker 19: it last year. Do y'all do like an analysis of
- 1:47:45Speaker 19: all players available or do you just kind of pick
- 1:47:47Speaker 19: and choose and then put them up on Patriots dot
- 1:47:49Speaker 19: com Just so I can follow that too.
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: Okay, what's the question the draft?
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: For the draft?
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: Don't we don't do all players?
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: Now, what we do is we take like the top
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: ten of each position. We get them up. Well, so
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: what the guys will do is, like one day, you
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: guys will focus on running backs and we'll have a
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: podcast that we'll talk about all the top running backs
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: that are available, and then we'll have like you know,
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: recaps on on Patriots dot com. We'll also have videos
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: of probably the top five guys at every position. We'll
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: put those videos up maybe a little bit more in
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: some of the cases.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: So, yeah, we do have a podcast for every position
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: that Mike and Evan and I will will do. And
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: then I think Evan and Mike do a lot of
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: written capsules on the prospects as well. Yep, drafts. Yeah,
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: there's I mean, there's a lot of there's a lot
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: of draft information out there, and there's a lot that
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: we'll have on Patriots dot com too.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: Yep, Sean's and Vancouver. What's up Sean?
- 1:48:50Speaker 21: Hi everyone, Paul. I also agree with your position on
- 1:48:55Speaker 21: Dan Campbell's play calling and time management. But I have
- 1:49:01Speaker 21: a couple of questions in regards to clarification for things
- 1:49:04Speaker 21: you said earlier. The one was for the Patriots scrafton quarterback.
- 1:49:09Speaker 21: You mentioned it depends on what the Bears want to
- 1:49:11Speaker 21: do with relates to justin fields, and I get that,
- 1:49:14Speaker 21: But you also mentioned the Cardinals and Murray and I
- 1:49:17Speaker 21: don't get that because wouldn't it be Washington commanders as
- 1:49:20Speaker 21: the commanders of the second pick that I mess that up?
- 1:49:23Speaker 11: Oh? Okay, my bad, this is wondering.
- 1:49:26Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:49:26Speaker 21: And the second second thing I wonder is that the
- 1:49:30Speaker 21: Patriots Gobo Nicks in the second round that probably won't
- 1:49:32Speaker 21: work out. Is that because Nicks won't be a franchise
- 1:49:35Speaker 21: quarterback in the NFL? Or is it because he won't
- 1:49:37Speaker 21: be available in the second round.
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: No, I don't think the chances are great of waiting
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: beyond the first round. And like getting your answer now,
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: it can happen. We know who the guys are. But
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: I don't think it's a coincidence that seven out of
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: the eight final eight quarterbacks were first round picks. I
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: don't think that's a surprise at all. Yeah, I mean
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: you might be able to get Dak Prescott in the
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: fourth round. Yeah, I mean, look, it could happen with
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: thanks Sean. And I'm not going to count party because
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: I think you guys have been telling me how bad
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: he is all year anyway, so you guys can't tell
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: me I'd like to get Party in the seventh round. Party.
- 1:50:16Speaker 9: Party is a product of great talent being around him.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: I think he's also pretty good. I don't I'm not
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: Evan wants to poop poo him. I think he's pretty good.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: No, No, I think I think I think he's fine.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: You have to be.
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: There's a million other guys like him. I just can't wait.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: I wish there were a million guys. The league would
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: be better.
- 1:50:33Speaker 7: I can't wait till Kyle Shanahan gets his Matthew Stafford.
- 1:50:35Speaker 7: That's all I can say, because then then he might
- 1:50:38Speaker 7: actually have a chance of winning a super Bowl.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Ellen, Wisconsin, I think Campbell can be a good
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: head coach, but also he's not an X and o's guy.
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: It's entirely possible that he knows his limitations so he
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: knows to hire the right guys. Despite experience here, not
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: every coach needs to think he's the smartest room guy
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: in the room in order to succeed.
- 1:50:55Speaker 7: Un But it's really really difficult to replicate that year
- 1:50:59Speaker 7: after year because your guys get hired away, Like you know,
- 1:51:03Speaker 7: Ben Johnson's gonna get hired that way. So if you
- 1:51:06Speaker 7: have a really good job of developing coordinators and things
- 1:51:10Speaker 7: like that, then short.
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: It'll be a good taset study because if they lose
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: the two coordinators the way Philly did.
- 1:51:15Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I'm interested to see, like what's gonna happen
- 1:51:18Speaker 8: with Vegas too, because for similar reason, they love Antonio
- 1:51:20Speaker 8: Piers like their players love him.
- 1:51:22Speaker 9: But like is that sustainable?
- 1:51:23Speaker 8: Yeah, Like coming off firing Josh, like the players like
- 1:51:27Speaker 8: rallied around Antonio peers and players did want him to
- 1:51:29Speaker 8: be hired as head coach, but like is that sustainable?
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: What I worry about here?
- 1:51:34Speaker 7: Like I think Gerrod Mayo has some x's and o's chops, absolutely,
- 1:51:38Speaker 7: but I think his strengths are leadership, motivation, you know,
- 1:51:42Speaker 7: those are his you know, addressing a room, being able
- 1:51:45Speaker 7: to capture a room and have the you know, the
- 1:51:48Speaker 7: weight of the room on his shoulders, and those are
- 1:51:50Speaker 7: all great things.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: But he also was a film junkie when he was
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: a player.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: You know, Yeah, I think he does.
- 1:51:58Speaker 7: But I think that, you know, just hearing the difference
- 1:52:02Speaker 7: between his role in Steve's role, Steve is really the
- 1:52:05Speaker 7: play caller and the x's and o's guy, you know.
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: And I don't think Girod's gonna call plays on defense
- 1:52:10Speaker 7: as the head coach. I think he's gonna want his coordinator.
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: To do it. Uh, Paul says Cassidy, you said no
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: quarterback prospect taken high just outright sucked. What about the
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: head scratching Bears move and taking Mitch Trubisky, He wasn't
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: still as horrible.
- 1:52:25Speaker 4: I didn't say that they don't stink, Josh Rosen, I said,
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: they have talent. They have talent. You know, there's a
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: lot of reasons why it's unfulfilled promise. But the tackle
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: that gets taken with the fourth pick has talent. Well,
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: he just maybe doesn't work. It doesn't work hard enough.
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: Like Jay Cutler was as talented as anybody, but he
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: didn't care about football.
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: I know, but there's more to just having pure talent.
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: I understand that, Fred, But my point is, Mitch Trubisky
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: has ability. Yes, he could move.
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: I think he could draft it has ability.
- 1:52:58Speaker 4: Thank you. You just made my argument for me, right,
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: But that doesn't some guys, bust.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: I know, but that doesn't mean they're gonna be good
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: football players.
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: Exactly, you know, exactly we are luckstep Okay. You know
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: that was my argument that the email had just tried
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: to pooh pooh by saying Mitch Trubisky.
- 1:53:17Speaker 7: He had talent, so does JJ McCarthy. And I look
- 1:53:21Speaker 7: at the two of those guys, and I see this
- 1:53:22Speaker 7: Spider Man meme.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: Those guys they don't have enough talent in enough areas
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: or they don't have it.
- 1:53:28Speaker 7: They run around, they got cannon arms, they can throw.
- 1:53:32Speaker 7: They can throw the ball eighty yards. They can't throw
- 1:53:34Speaker 7: it five like, and I got time for that.
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: And that's that's the lesson about the leap from college.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: Every one of these college players that are in the
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: draft were the best players in their conference. You know,
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: you read like guys that are you know, projected for
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: the fifth or sixth round, and you read their bios
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: and you know Dane Brugler and it's like all this
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: all that you know, and that just shows you the jump.
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: Now you get to the NFL where all the guys
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: there were the best in the lower level.
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: That's when you find out he has the same ability
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: as the guy across room, but does he work as
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: hard as he and does he knows as much and
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: does it mean as much to him?
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: And that's a fact. And that's what Belichick would always
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: argue about drafting, especially out of the first round, is
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: all these guys can play, tell me the guy that's coachable,
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: that football is important to them, and I'll I'll take
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: them to the next level, but I'll trade down because
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: I can get pretty much the same player at the
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: lower part of that draft as I can. I'm at
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: that round as a you know, top of that round,
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: and I'll make them, you know, good because they want
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: to be coached. But they all have the same traits.
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think he feels that way about a
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: lot of these guys.
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: Jordan Richards, well, you can't be right all the time,
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: but that the philosophy was very flawed.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: Well yeah, well then he mixed in the personal stuff.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna take care.
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: I'm just saying in general, like just trading down to
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: get a group of players that is a flawed philosophy,
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: and basically, to me, sometimes it makes it basically just
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: came back and bit them is all it did. It's
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: like the the law of averages are going to catch
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: up with you. Yeah, you can't do the wrong thing
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: often enough to overcome it. Like sometimes you just got
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: to take good players and coach them. If he's as
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: good as coach as he always thought he was, he
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: should want to get talented players.
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: Well Ken in New Jersey, Belichick always said he would
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: go for two if he liked the play call, similar
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: to what Evan says. I think that makes a bigger
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: difference than the analytics. These plays are not in a vacuum.
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: That's my biggest point right there, the last sentence. They're
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: not like I think the analytics treat it like it's
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: in a vacuum, and there's a lot of emotion that
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: goes into that game that gets ignored.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: Yeah, let's see be rights in. He's from New York.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: We need an entire offense. He says, do you think
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: these offseason moves would be enough Zach Robinson, ebro c
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: re sign on when you sign Ridley or Hollywood Brown
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: at wide receiver, draft Jad and Daniels in the first
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: and draft a tackle in the second. Would those add
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: up to.
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: Would that make you a good offense?
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: No, but that's a good start. Yeah, it's a really
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: good story. I'm all set on Hollywood Brown, but yeah, no,
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: I was thinking more Ridley.
- 1:56:19Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, but I mean that's sort of what my
- 1:56:22Speaker 7: at some point, my dream off season thing that's been
- 1:56:25Speaker 7: written for like two weeks. We'll see the light of day.
- 1:56:27Speaker 7: But until they actually like tell me what's happening in
- 1:56:30Speaker 7: this organization, it's kind of hard to do. But that's
- 1:56:32Speaker 7: like kind of what my along the lines of what
- 1:56:34Speaker 7: I would say, like quarterback in the first round, tackle
- 1:56:38Speaker 7: at the top of the second round, pay somebody in
- 1:56:40Speaker 7: free agency at wide receiver, bring on WHENU back and
- 1:56:44Speaker 7: have you know, good coordinators and good coches.
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: I think that's a good solid foundation to start to
- 1:56:49Speaker 4: bring your offense back. Now, you still need a lot more.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeap. Luke's in North Attleborough. What's up, Luke? Luke? Yeah?
- 1:57:00Speaker 22: Just called come on, ye, do you think some things
- 1:57:04Speaker 22: are better left to chance?
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: Like it depends on what you talk rather not stare.
- 1:57:09Speaker 22: At or replay for like thirty minutes during a game
- 1:57:13Speaker 22: and maybe just move on and let it be up
- 1:57:15Speaker 22: the chance instead of everything being right down to the
- 1:57:19Speaker 22: nitty gritty of.
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:57:22Speaker 8: What? No?
- 1:57:23Speaker 12: No?
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: So rather than chance started, are some things left better
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: left better left to chance?
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: Is that what you say?
- 1:57:32Speaker 13: Right?
- 1:57:33Speaker 12: Like?
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: Well, not like you know, sexually transmitted disease, You don't
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: want to like leave that to chance? I got pink
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: guy right now, Well there you go. See you left
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: that the chance And now you can't see how did
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: Fred know? Yeah?
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: So what so what are we not leaving to chance?
- 1:57:50Speaker 22: It's just really like the instant reviews and like staring
- 1:57:54Speaker 22: at a review for like thirty minutes, shying to figure
- 1:57:56Speaker 22: it out.
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: I don't like what you're talking you're talking about he
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: played reviews. I think he's saying.
- 1:58:02Speaker 7: I think he's saying that instead of everything like a
- 1:58:05Speaker 7: Challenger review, we just go with the call on the
- 1:58:09Speaker 7: field and like that those are the breaks, like you.
- 1:58:11Speaker 22: Just have to go.
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: I don't know if that's what he's saying, but I
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: don't know, I have the technology to get it right,
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: get it right now was the closest I can get.
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: You know what bugs me is like I think there's
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: a strong argument to be made that you could get
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: rid of replay because it's not used right. It's not
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: they're not right all the time. Like what was the game?
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: Who was the never mind? I can't remember what game
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: it was. And then they said, oh, the Pittsburgh Buffalo game.
- 1:58:38Speaker 4: The guy fumbled friar move. He clearly fumbled and the
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: Bills clearly recovered it and bounced, and they go to
- 1:58:43Speaker 4: replay and there's no, no, no it call stands like
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: that's what what bugs me if you're not going to
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: use it right and don't use it at all.
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: Coming from tennis, I'm so glad with the technology now,
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: you know, like I kind of miss McEnroe yelling at people,
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: but you don't have to go do that anymore. Yeah,
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: and now with the the majors, they don't even have lines.
- 1:59:02Speaker 4: People, do you see this qualifier by the way that
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: or whatever?
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: Yeah, you haven't watched any I haven't seen her. But
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: like the tennis guy, they don't even need you know,
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: beyond just you know, the close calls. They don't even
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: have people anymore, and it's it makes it so much better.
- 1:59:18Speaker 7: Well, I was we were watching, we watch the Bruins
- 1:59:21Speaker 7: all the time, and that the guy, you know, if
- 1:59:24Speaker 7: you clear it out of the of the ice, I'm
- 1:59:28Speaker 7: trying to think of the words, Uh, it's a penalty,
- 1:59:30Speaker 7: right if he doesn't go in your own zone. And
- 1:59:33Speaker 7: he flicked it right out without it going off of anything.
- 1:59:36Speaker 7: And they said that it deflected and it never divided,
- 1:59:38Speaker 7: and it was it wasn't even close. And like in
- 1:59:41Speaker 7: the NFL, I'll give him credit. Like I think the
- 1:59:43Speaker 7: NFL would have maybe had New York buzz down and
- 1:59:46Speaker 7: say hey, like this is actually.
- 1:59:48Speaker 4: Although they didn't do that. And I was thinking the
- 1:59:50Speaker 4: same thing on that garbage passing appearance call on Kansas City. Yeah,
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: on Buffalo against Kansas City. I was waiting because the
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: women they have the long the long talk. I'm like,
- 2:00:02Speaker 4: they're going to fix this. They're going to fix it
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: because they had the replay that showed perfectly the Malmes
- 2:00:06Speaker 4: had the ball in his hands as the guy was
- 2:00:08Speaker 4: bumping them and it was within five yards and they
- 2:00:10Speaker 4: still call pass interference.
- 2:00:12Speaker 7: These are the things that I just just get it right,
- 2:00:15Speaker 7: you know in all sports, like you know, just we're
- 2:00:18Speaker 7: standing there on our couch and you can clear his days.
- 2:00:20Speaker 7: See it's a penalty, and yet the NHL decides to
- 2:00:24Speaker 7: just go with the wrong call and it makes it.
- 2:00:25Speaker 7: It doesn't take thirty minutes like the caller said.
- 2:00:28Speaker 4: It takes ten. And I've been a bit of a
- 2:00:31Speaker 4: to get his point, get rid of get rid of
- 2:00:33Speaker 4: replay guy like but Fred's point of no, I want
- 2:00:35Speaker 4: them to get it right if they can. And the
- 2:00:37Speaker 4: play that really illustrates that is the Mikole Hardman fumble,
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: Like that was really close. Yes, but they but the
- 2:00:44Speaker 4: ball was moving before his hip hit the ground, right,
- 2:00:47Speaker 4: and that was a humongous play.
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: Oh I hate that rule though.
- 2:00:50Speaker 4: Oh the rule is going to be changed. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: Evin mccorty says they should keep it.
- 2:00:56Speaker 7: There's a lot of there's a lot of traction in
- 2:00:58Speaker 7: the league to get that real change. I don't know
- 2:01:00Speaker 7: what it's going to go to, but it's not going
- 2:01:01Speaker 7: to be a turnover. It'll maybe it'll be like a
- 2:01:04Speaker 7: or if. I don't know exactly what it's gonna be,
- 2:01:08Speaker 7: but it will it will be different.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I shouldn't lose the possession of the ball on
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: a technicality so the other team has to take it away.
- 2:01:14Speaker 4: We applaud Andy Reid a lot on that play. That's
- 2:01:18Speaker 4: a dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb play for a lot of reasons.
- 2:01:21Speaker 4: One you're running it right down there throat, just running
- 2:01:24Speaker 4: into the end zone. And two you're flipping the ball
- 2:01:26Speaker 4: to a guy who hasn't had the ball in his
- 2:01:27Speaker 4: hands the whole game, in the middle of the fourth
- 2:01:29Speaker 4: quarter in hardman and then he's loose with the ball
- 2:01:33Speaker 4: at the goal line. He kind of got what you
- 2:01:35Speaker 4: deserved on that. And I love Andy Reid.
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: You know that Paul Parrello school of clock management and
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: fourth quarter play.
- 2:01:40Speaker 4: Actually he fumbled twice in that game. Yeah, but do
- 2:01:43Speaker 4: you unders like, do you you know what I'm talking about?
- 2:01:46Speaker 4: If you're given that to like Kelsey and he fumbles,
- 2:01:48Speaker 4: I don't have as much of an argument. But like,
- 2:01:51Speaker 4: why are you're getting cute with a guy who hasn't
- 2:01:53Speaker 4: really had the ball? He's been on IR for like
- 2:01:56Speaker 4: two months? First world problem for Kansas City, But they
- 2:01:59Speaker 4: check is a dog like he coincidence that Tony has
- 2:02:06Speaker 4: been out the last couple of games and all of
- 2:02:07Speaker 4: a sudden, the Chiefs offense looks fine.
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that's check. There's a couple of young guys like
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: Ayuk and guys like that in the league now that
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: are the next generation of really good players. It's exciting.
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: I take that all right. That's gonna be it for
