- Lucas: Hey everyone. Welcome back to another episode of Learn Danish with Fexingo. Luna: Hi Lucas! It is so good to be back at the mic with you. Lucas: It really is. We have been talking about laundry, hardware stores, and furniture lately. Luna: Right. And we just did prepositions last time. So where are we going today? Lucas: Today we are staying inside. But we are moving from just naming rooms to actually living in them. Luna: Oh, like... doing things? Cleaning? Cooking? Lucas: Exactly. We are learning Danish phrases for house rules and chores. It is very practical. Luna: I love that. Because when you live with others, you need to know who does what. Lucas: Yes. And the first thing you might want to ask is: What should I do? Luna: Okay. How do we say 'What should I do?' in Danish? Lucas: We say: Hvad skal jeg gøre? Luna: Hvad skal jeg gøre? Lucas: Perfect. Let me break it down slowly. Hvad... skal... jeg... gøre? Luna: Hvad... skal... jeg... gøre? Lucas: Good. 'Hvad' means what. 'Skal' means should or must. 'Jeg' is I. 'Gøre' is to do. Luna: So literally: What should I do? Lucas: Exactly. You use this when you walk into a messy room and want to help. Luna: I can see myself saying that. It feels polite. Lucas: It is. And if someone asks you, you might want to say: I will take care of it. Luna: That is a great response. How do we say 'I will take care of it'? Lucas: We say: Jeg tager det. Luna: Jeg tager det. Lucas: Very nice. Slowly: Jeg... tager... det. Luna: Jeg... tager... det. Lucas: Correct. 'Jeg' is I. 'Tager' is take. 'Det' is it. Luna: So 'I take it'. That makes sense. It sounds confident. Lucas: It does. Now, let us look at specific chores. One common one is vacuuming. Luna: Ah, yes. Vacuuming. What is the word for that? Lucas: The noun is: Støvsugning. Luna: Støvsugning. Lucas: Let's try it slowly. Støv... sugning. Luna: Støv... sugning. Lucas: Good. 'Støv' means dust. 'Sugning' comes from sucking. So dust-sucking. Luna: Oh, that is very logical. I like that. Lucas: It is. So you could say: Jeg laver støvsugning. I am doing vacuuming. Luna: Or simply: Det er støvsugning. It is vacuuming time. Lucas: Yes. Another big chore in Danish homes is the dishes. Luna: Ugh. The dishes. Everyone hates them. How do we say 'the dishes'? Lucas: We say: Opvasken. Luna: Opvasken. Lucas: Slowly: Opmasken. Luna: Opmasken. Lucas: Close. It is op vask en. Like washing up. Luna: Opvasken. Okay. Got it. Lucas: You can say: Skal vi tage opvasken? Shall we take the dishes? Luna: That sounds like a good way to start a conversation after dinner. Lucas: It is. And finally, there is a phrase for taking turns. Luna: Oh, yes. When you have to rotate chores. Lucas: We say: Det er min tur. Luna: Det er min tur. Lucas: Perfect. Det er... min... tur. Luna: Det er... min... tur. Lucas: Excellent. 'Det' is it. 'Er' is is. 'Min' is my. 'Tur' is turn. Luna: So 'It is my turn'. Very clear. Lucas: And if it is your partner's turn, you say: Det er din tur. Luna: Det er din tur. Nice. Lucas: Let's put them together now. Imagine you come home. Luna: Okay. I see the floor is dirty. Lucas: You ask: Hvad skal jeg gøre? Luna: Hvad skal jeg gøre? Lucas: Your friend says: Støvsugning er nemt. Vacuuming is easy. Luna: Okay. Then I say: Jeg tager det. Lucas: And after you finish, you say: Det er min tur. It was my turn. Luna: Wait, no. If I finished, I would say: Nu er det din tur. Now it is your turn. Lucas: Oh, right! Good catch. Yes. Nu er det din tur. Luna: Nu er det din tur. Got it. Lucas: You are getting faster. Let us review the words quickly. Luna: Okay. Hvad skal jeg gøre? Lucas: What should I do? Luna: Jeg tager det. Lucas: I will take care of it. Luna: Støvsugning. Lucas: Vacuuming. Luna: Opvasken. Lucas: The dishes. Luna: Det er min tur. Lucas: It is my turn. Luna: These are so useful. I feel ready to clean my apartment. Lucas: Ha! Maybe save the Danish for when you are actually cleaning. Luna: Maybe not. Practice makes perfect. Lucas: True. Before we go, I want to mention something about Fexingo. Luna: Yes? Lucas: If these small episodes help you build confidence, consider supporting us. Luna: It really keeps the show running smoothly. Lucas: You can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo — that's F. E. X. I. N. G. O. Luna: Yeah. Just a coffee helps a lot. Thanks for listening. Lucas: Back to the chores. Can you imagine doing all this alone? Luna: No way. I would need someone to say: Jeg tager det. Lucas: Exactly. Or at least someone to remind you: Det er din tur. Luna: Oh, I know that feeling. It is never fun. Lucas: But with Danish, it is easier. You can ask: Hvad skal jeg gøre? Luna: Right. And then maybe do some Støvsugning. Lucas: And finish with Opvasken. A full routine. Luna: A very productive routine. I like it. Lucas: Remember, repetition is key. Say those phrases out loud. Luna: I will. Especially Det er min tur. Lucas: Good luck with your chores. See you next time. Luna: Bye! Tak for hjælpen.
