- 0:30what's going on everybody
- 0:31welcome to the cloud show
- 0:33media roundtable where we
- 0:34have amy cat and myself
- 0:37here just to hang out with
- 0:38you for about 30 to 40
- 0:39minutes today uh beautiful
- 0:43hot day here in ohio and uh
- 0:45uh we've got some exciting
- 0:48stuff happening this week
- 0:49at least for me I'm super
- 0:51excited about and uh
- 0:54Super stoked that we get to
- 0:55move on to a new
- 0:56competition and hopefully
- 0:59help us move forward as a community.
- 1:03So what's going on with you guys?
- 1:06Well,
- 1:07I've been dipping my toe back into work.
- 1:10As you can see,
- 1:11I'm here in my lovely
- 1:12kitchen right now at work.
- 1:18This is my prep week to prep
- 1:19for teacher prep week to
- 1:21prep for the kids prep.
- 1:25So that's my meeting to prep
- 1:28for the meeting for the meeting.
- 1:30Yep.
- 1:31I mean, it's, and it's funny,
- 1:32like I'll knock off three
- 1:33things on my list and then
- 1:35three more things like I've
- 1:36like added to the list.
- 1:37So it's like,
- 1:38my mind is going so many
- 1:40different places.
- 1:40So it's nice to take a break
- 1:41and talk about something else.
- 1:44Yeah.
- 1:44I hate the meetings for the
- 1:46meeting for the meeting.
- 1:46Yeah.
- 1:48I hate meetings, period.
- 1:49Me too.
- 1:50And I also hate email.
- 1:51So I get when people are like,
- 1:52this should have been an email.
- 1:53But nobody reads emails
- 1:54anymore because we're
- 1:56inundated with emails.
- 2:00Yeah.
- 2:01It's so funny.
- 2:02And this is no knock on.
- 2:05So I've been communicating
- 2:06with the people at Legends
- 2:07who are running the
- 2:08CrossFit Masters games.
- 2:10And all I want to know is, like,
- 2:11when check-in starts tomorrow.
- 2:13Mm-hmm.
- 2:14And I've sent emails and I
- 2:16get answers back with a lot of details,
- 2:18but not the detail I asked about.
- 2:22So I have like a lot of
- 2:23information that they keep
- 2:24coming back to.
- 2:25But I also know like it's
- 2:27got to be like pure hell
- 2:28right now trying to set this up,
- 2:30trying to get everything
- 2:31ready for tomorrow,
- 2:33all that kind of stuff.
- 2:34And so I understand.
- 2:36But really,
- 2:37I just I just want to know like
- 2:39when check in starts.
- 2:40Could you ask an athlete?
- 2:41Do they know?
- 2:42So I finally did.
- 2:43I reached out to an athlete and said,
- 2:47when are you guys told it's going on?
- 2:49And they're like,
- 2:50we can come anytime between 10 a.m.
- 2:52and 8 p.m.
- 2:53Yeah.
- 2:55Wow.
- 2:55That's a long time.
- 2:57That's a long day.
- 2:58That's a big window.
- 2:59So I hate to be the
- 3:02volunteer running that sign-in desk.
- 3:07But yeah, but super excited to be there.
- 3:10It's just,
- 3:12there's a lot of like questions
- 3:13I have about what's going to happen.
- 3:16And because it's three floors,
- 3:19one with a professional rig,
- 3:20one with an A-frame rig and
- 3:22one with no rig.
- 3:25and they're going to be running events.
- 3:27And so depending on your age group,
- 3:29you will run in a different
- 3:31order than maybe another
- 3:33age group because you're
- 3:35just rotating the three floors.
- 3:37So like 39 may start on floor one,
- 3:4040 to 44 may start on floor two.
- 3:43Fascinating.
- 3:49That's a logistical
- 3:50nightmare to think about.
- 3:53Corey called out where I got
- 3:54the information from.
- 3:57He said, I was going to say,
- 3:58I bet Rudy knows.
- 3:58Well, I bet Lynette knows.
- 4:01Lynette filled me in.
- 4:02Yeah.
- 4:04That's always a struggle
- 4:06having multiple floors on a competition,
- 4:08you know, for a competition.
- 4:09Scott,
- 4:10we know all too well what that's
- 4:11like at MFC when we tried to do that.
- 4:14And the only person I know
- 4:16that does it really well,
- 4:17aside from the CrossFit Games,
- 4:18would be the MAAC.
- 4:21So that team has always had two floors.
- 4:24That was sort of a novel
- 4:25idea back in the day when some smaller,
- 4:28you know,
- 4:29some larger local competition
- 4:30started to get bigger.
- 4:31They always had two floors
- 4:32and they managed to make it work better.
- 4:35And TFX always had multiple
- 4:38floors as well and does a
- 4:39pretty good job with that.
- 4:40But if it's your first time doing it,
- 4:42it's definitely a challenge.
- 4:45I forgot you brought your
- 4:46phone voice with you today.
- 4:48Oh, yeah, this is right.
- 4:50Guys, this is day one, two, three.
- 4:53This is day five of this phenomenon.
- 4:56And on Saturday,
- 4:57I was lucky enough to
- 4:58attend a CrossFit
- 4:59competition where luckily
- 5:01all I had to do was scoring
- 5:03because if I had to judge
- 5:05or compete or anything else.
- 5:07I mean, I literally had a post-it note.
- 5:09They set me up in the office
- 5:10of the gym and I literally
- 5:13had a post-it note that said,
- 5:14I have laryngitis.
- 5:16Because people were asking me questions,
- 5:18you know, and I was like, like this.
- 5:20And then the other post-it note I had was,
- 5:23I don't know, I don't work here.
- 5:24Because I don't know how
- 5:26many times people wanted,
- 5:28they needed to let me know
- 5:28that there wasn't toilet
- 5:29paper in the bathroom.
- 5:31Somebody from the power
- 5:32company had shown up and
- 5:33needed to talk to the owner.
- 5:35Where is, how much are these protein bars?
- 5:38Where can I pay for, you know,
- 5:40my fit aid and all this stuff?
- 5:41And I'm thinking, oh my God, stop.
- 5:45And this is a thousand times
- 5:47better than it was on Sunday.
- 5:48I mean,
- 5:49literally I had like one octave and
- 5:51it was way,
- 5:52way low and anything higher
- 5:53than that just came out as a speak.
- 5:56But yeah, Corey,
- 5:56I like this version of my voice.
- 5:58I really do like,
- 5:59but Saturday was ridiculous.
- 6:01It was, well, and I,
- 6:03Didn't know if I was sick or not.
- 6:04I mean,
- 6:04I obviously have like a cold or
- 6:06something.
- 6:07You know,
- 6:07I wasn't sure if I had something
- 6:08more serious.
- 6:09And every time I had to talk to someone,
- 6:11I had to get in their ear
- 6:12and talk to them.
- 6:13It felt awful.
- 6:14Let me give you my germs.
- 6:16You know, I don't know what's happening.
- 6:20So luckily.
- 6:21I've taken 18 million, you know,
- 6:23what tests and they're all negative.
- 6:24So I just have a bad cold or
- 6:27maybe I have allergies.
- 6:28Maybe I need to start taking
- 6:29the Scott Switzer route.
- 6:31You know,
- 6:32Natalie had this respiratory
- 6:35thing for like a month,
- 6:36actually two months.
- 6:37And she had like walking pneumonia.
- 6:38And she has walking pneumonia.
- 6:39Yeah.
- 6:41That's crazy.
- 6:42I mean, I should,
- 6:43I should go to the doctor and, you know,
- 6:45Mike's been telling me like, Hey,
- 6:46just do like a telehealth or whatever.
- 6:49you know,
- 6:50between getting Eliana ready for
- 6:52her first day of school
- 6:53today and dealing with a dying dog.
- 6:56And it's just crazy.
- 6:59So I saw Dashie today.
- 7:01I saw him, I went and visited him.
- 7:02Chris sent me a text this
- 7:03morning and said he collapsed again.
- 7:06So I went to the house after
- 7:07the gym and took a look at
- 7:09him and he's still eating
- 7:10chicken and wagging his tail and acting,
- 7:13you know, slow,
- 7:14but not unhappy or in pain.
- 7:17So,
- 7:18he's kind of still hanging
- 7:19out doing his thing.
- 7:21I just,
- 7:22it's a roller coaster and I can't
- 7:23keep getting these texts like, Hey,
- 7:25he collapsed.
- 7:26I'm like, Oh my God.
- 7:26Okay.
- 7:27Is today the day?
- 7:28Well, no, he's still wagging his tail.
- 7:30You know, what should we do?
- 7:31And I'm like, Oh,
- 7:34you're going to put them up there.
- 7:38No, thank you.
- 7:42It's actually this one.
- 7:44There we go.
- 7:44Yeah.
- 7:46It's funny you talk about dogs.
- 7:48I found out,
- 7:49we haven't talked publicly
- 7:51since I found out last
- 7:52Wednesday that I am fully
- 7:55allergic to my dog.
- 7:56Good grief.
- 8:00I finally went to an
- 8:00allergist who did the skin
- 8:02test and then followed it
- 8:04up with like an injection
- 8:06test where they go deeper into the body.
- 8:10And then they did a rhino
- 8:13nose test with everything.
- 8:15And that's where I found out
- 8:17finally that I'm allergic
- 8:19officially to the dog and
- 8:21to just about everything outside.
- 8:22I know everything, all the things.
- 8:25So I started immunotherapy in two weeks.
- 8:28I think Charlie did that too.
- 8:31I did a lot of injection tests.
- 8:33Yeah.
- 8:34But I mean, didn't you do immunotherapy?
- 8:36Didn't you get out?
- 8:37No.
- 8:38Oh.
- 8:40I didn't get shots.
- 8:41Forget that.
- 8:44It's fine.
- 8:45You're going to get shots eventually,
- 8:47right?
- 8:47The immunotherapy is sort of like a,
- 8:49like a hyper boost.
- 8:50Of what the shots would be.
- 8:51And then, and then you'll.
- 8:53Is the shots.
- 8:55Yeah.
- 8:55Okay.
- 8:56But it's like three weeks of
- 8:58shots in a day or something, right?
- 9:00Well, you can,
- 9:00you can do it every week for a year,
- 9:04or you can elect to do the
- 9:05rush where you do three
- 9:07months of shots in five hours.
- 9:10And that's what you're doing, right?
- 9:11That's I'm electing to do that.
- 9:15Because you don't see relief
- 9:16until three months.
- 9:17I've been dealing with this way too long.
- 9:20Like I need some relief from this.
- 9:24So, yeah,
- 9:24I'm just going to go in there
- 9:25every 20 minutes for five hours.
- 9:27You get a shot.
- 9:30And then and then you do
- 9:31weekly for the rest of the year.
- 9:34What would have been the year?
- 9:35And then you move to
- 9:36biweekly and then you'll
- 9:38move to monthly and then
- 9:39then you should be done.
- 9:41But it is a long process.
- 9:45I actually did start that.
- 9:46That's what I'm saying.
- 9:47I know.
- 9:48I did that five-hour thing.
- 9:50I remember it now.
- 9:53Did it help?
- 9:54You're in the middle of it now?
- 9:56No, I did it years ago.
- 9:58It's kind of like day one.
- 10:00He does the first part and
- 10:01then he just doesn't make it.
- 10:03I did the five hours and then I was out.
- 10:06He did the tough part and
- 10:08then when it got easy, nah.
- 10:10He didn't do the follow-through.
- 10:11Weird.
- 10:13I decided to try something else.
- 10:14yeah oh why cat just leave
- 10:17oh she's coming um so
- 10:20charlie let's talk about
- 10:22what happened to your back
- 10:25listen when you don't do
- 10:26mobility and you don't have
- 10:28a core everything seems to
- 10:31just tighten up when you do
- 10:33things was it during the
- 10:35kettlebell swings I'm
- 10:35guessing it's probably
- 10:37during the uh cleaning
- 10:39jerks oh I forgot that part
- 10:42What do you mean you don't have a core?
- 10:44Are you like the scarecrow?
- 10:45Or you don't have?
- 10:46Basically.
- 10:47He thinks you got a core.
- 10:50I think you just maybe
- 10:51aren't engaging your core.
- 10:53There you go.
- 10:55There's nothing to engage.
- 10:56Charlie's on the free trial
- 11:00for allergy tests.
- 11:02What I want you guys to hear about, though,
- 11:04first,
- 11:04is what happened this morning when
- 11:07you were supposed to be in my class?
- 11:09What happened there?
- 11:09See, what happened was...
- 11:12The bus has skid outside, see?
- 11:14And then, oh,
- 11:15my watch died in the middle of the night,
- 11:17which has my alarm.
- 11:20Isn't it weird?
- 11:22With all the technology that we have,
- 11:24that Charlie's alarms,
- 11:26he still misses it.
- 11:28I'm not letting a man know where I'm at.
- 11:34You guys have your newfangled stuff.
- 11:37I got an old school, that little brown.
- 11:40That's what I need,
- 11:41that brown clock with red digits on it.
- 11:46I have one of those next to my bed.
- 11:49It doesn't have an alarm,
- 11:50but it tells me what time
- 11:50it is because I can't stand
- 11:52having to look at a phone
- 11:53or a watch to see.
- 11:54Amy, are you still using your Whoop?
- 11:57No, I quit that about a year ago.
- 12:00Is anybody?
- 12:00Am I the only one?
- 12:03My whoop is my alarm clock.
- 12:05Like if I don't have this, I don't,
- 12:06it's basically the only
- 12:07reason I wear it anymore is
- 12:08to tell me how many hours I
- 12:10didn't sleep and to wake me
- 12:11up in the morning.
- 12:13I just pay a different app
- 12:14to tell me that.
- 12:15Okay.
- 12:16What's going on with Kat's voice?
- 12:17Did I miss that part?
- 12:18Yep.
- 12:18You did.
- 12:19I got, I got the boogie woogie flu.
- 12:21Oh, yeah.
- 12:27Well, that's what I said.
- 12:27I didn't realize she was
- 12:28bringing her phone voice to the podcast.
- 12:32Corey says Charlie has that
- 12:33brown clock that plays
- 12:35yacht rock when it goes off.
- 12:37It's easing me right back into my dreams.
- 12:42Yeah.
- 12:43So were you able to do any of the workout?
- 12:46Yeah, I did all.
- 12:48Oh, you said the last round.
- 12:50Okay.
- 12:51The kettlebell swings.
- 12:52I was like, is it worth it?
- 12:57No.
- 12:59Well, you were missed in the back corner.
- 13:02Which I'm not allowed to be in anymore.
- 13:03He's not allowed to be.
- 13:04Yeah.
- 13:04Did you guys hear this?
- 13:05You didn't hear it.
- 13:05We didn't talk about it.
- 13:06What happened?
- 13:09Well,
- 13:09I'm one of Charlie's accountability
- 13:11coaches, as you all know,
- 13:12because that's why I share
- 13:14his dirty laundry on there.
- 13:16Which he quits doing as much as I quit.
- 13:20I do it and then I just get tired of.
- 13:23See?
- 13:23The accountability partner is it.
- 13:26I get tired of the lack of response.
- 13:30So anyways, he is not a lot.
- 13:33So there's this back corner
- 13:34that he likes to go in and work out in,
- 13:37work out in.
- 13:38And I've told him he's no
- 13:40longer allowed to go back
- 13:41there because I think he
- 13:43doesn't push as hard when
- 13:44he goes back there.
- 13:46And so he needs to be a part
- 13:47of the main area,
- 13:48unless there is somebody
- 13:50back there who will push
- 13:52him like one of the other
- 13:53coaches that might come in and work out.
- 13:55And he has agreed upon the right.
- 13:58You agreed that that was correct.
- 14:00Okay.
- 14:01Well, today was me and Marcus.
- 14:03So, okay.
- 14:05That wasn't fun.
- 14:07Nope.
- 14:11Well, um, yeah.
- 14:14Wow.
- 14:15You have some news at your gym.
- 14:18Yeah.
- 14:19I talked about it a little
- 14:20bit Sunday night,
- 14:20but the O'Connells have
- 14:23sold CrossFit Polaris,
- 14:25what was now known as IBEX headquarters.
- 14:28They're going back to CrossFit Polaris.
- 14:31Two family members from the gym bought
- 14:34um bought it um and the
- 14:38o'connell said that they
- 14:39will now just be members
- 14:41starting september 1st they
- 14:43will shift from being
- 14:44owners to being members and
- 14:46still want to be a part of
- 14:47the community and that's
- 14:48why they sold it to
- 14:49somebody in-house so it
- 14:51could stay kind of in the
- 14:52family um for those who don't know
- 14:57christy's mom and dad owned
- 14:58the gym first uh tony and
- 15:01donna and they've owned it
- 15:02for a very long time then
- 15:04when christy and pat came
- 15:05back to columbus they
- 15:07bought into the gym and uh
- 15:11and I think they all just
- 15:12decided it was a new time
- 15:14in their life and they
- 15:15wanted to focus on other
- 15:16things so they went ahead
- 15:17and sold the gym but um
- 15:20what's that gonna do for programming
- 15:23so according to my inside
- 15:25source who goes to a class
- 15:27with the one of the new
- 15:28owners um they are shifting
- 15:30over to a new programming
- 15:32and they're promoting one
- 15:33of the coaches to head
- 15:34coach and head programmer
- 15:37um to do programming I'm
- 15:39trying to find out if pat
- 15:40is still going to do ibex
- 15:41training online right um or
- 15:45I pay for it like they're
- 15:47still going to sell ibex training for
- 15:49why that wasn't part of our
- 15:52email to the community or, I mean,
- 15:55they've given us no
- 15:56indication that that's going away.
- 15:58Well, they just started a free trial,
- 16:02which care sign up for a
- 16:07new block starting next week.
- 16:10So stuff, you mean Charlie for IBEX?
- 16:16Yeah.
- 16:17Okay.
- 16:17Well, that's good to know.
- 16:19Yeah.
- 16:19I mean,
- 16:19I would hope we'd get some notice
- 16:20if they weren't doing that anymore.
- 16:22A lot more questions about
- 16:24that than I have about the gym itself.
- 16:27Um, cause there's, and I've noticed,
- 16:28I've noticed lately too,
- 16:29that the Ibex stuff has
- 16:30gotten really sloppy.
- 16:32Like there's, there's a lot of, um,
- 16:36you know, like in the description,
- 16:37it'll talk about cleaning
- 16:38jerks and in the, in an actual workout,
- 16:40it'll say snatches or, you know,
- 16:42some other movement.
- 16:43So, um,
- 16:44Welcome to mayhem.
- 16:47Is it like that too?
- 16:48I mean,
- 16:49it doesn't take much guys to just
- 16:52like proofread that stuff,
- 16:53especially if they're
- 16:54selling it for a fee.
- 16:56Oh, and let me tell you this too.
- 16:58I'm going to go there
- 16:58because I have given the feedback.
- 17:00So I'm not saying anything
- 17:01behind anybody's back.
- 17:02I have given upfront feedback,
- 17:04but Darren Hunsucker makes
- 17:07the videos for the coaches and
- 17:10It is the biggest amateur
- 17:11hour videos I've ever seen.
- 17:13He messes up about three or
- 17:16four times at the beginning where I think,
- 17:18Hey dude,
- 17:18could you just edit your videos
- 17:21before you send it out?
- 17:22Like, and he'll give like,
- 17:25it's not just a random little thing.
- 17:26It'll be like a totally
- 17:27different number or a
- 17:28totally different round
- 17:29that completely changes the
- 17:30whole stimulus of whatever
- 17:32the workout is supposed to be.
- 17:33Yeah.
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:36I don't, it's not that difficult.
- 17:37I don't understand it to be
- 17:39honest with you.
- 17:39I feel like a lot of times too, it's,
- 17:41if that's the case,
- 17:42like they're dealing with a
- 17:43year cycle and they're kind
- 17:44of just maybe cutting and pasting,
- 17:47regurgitating it and
- 17:48cutting and pasting or whatnot.
- 17:49But I mean, it's hard.
- 17:51I get it.
- 17:52But if you're, if you're selling it,
- 17:53it should be a professional product.
- 17:56And I feel like it's not.
- 17:57Oh boy.
- 17:58Yeah.
- 17:58Oh, here we go.
- 17:59Exactly.
- 18:00People just follow the leader, right?
- 18:02Yeah.
- 18:04What is this?
- 18:06So if you look in the description and this,
- 18:11they're two different workouts.
- 18:13Back squat, max back squat,
- 18:16but yet up here, workout of the day,
- 18:18seven rounds per time.
- 18:20So which one is it?
- 18:22Yeah.
- 18:23Both.
- 18:24Here's your strength.
- 18:25Here's your Metcon.
- 18:28Well,
- 18:28it's bad when you're in first class
- 18:29and then you're like, wait,
- 18:31this is not supposed to be this.
- 18:32It's supposed to be this.
- 18:34Poor 5 AMers.
- 18:35They're just the rest of the day.
- 18:37Two rounds.
- 18:39Oh, okay.
- 18:41Yeah.
- 18:42It's not 400 meters.
- 18:44It was 400 feet.
- 18:46My dad.
- 18:48Whoops.
- 18:51Yeah.
- 18:52I didn't want to,
- 18:53I didn't want to talk about this,
- 18:54but it's here.
- 18:55And so I'm going to go ahead
- 18:56and pull it up.
- 18:57Oh boy.
- 18:58But, um,
- 19:00What I'm hating ever since
- 19:02the games happened and the
- 19:03tragedy that was,
- 19:06the internet is just stupid.
- 19:07I can't even be on it.
- 19:08It's a dumpster fire.
- 19:10I was hoping to dive into
- 19:12CrossFit instead of, you know,
- 19:14what's it called?
- 19:15Political drama on the internet.
- 19:17And now I don't want to be a
- 19:18part of any of it.
- 19:20So the buttery rose put out
- 19:21a documentary yesterday,
- 19:22kind of behind the scenes
- 19:24and maybe two days ago, really, really,
- 19:26really well done, really well done.
- 19:29And they made an
- 19:29announcement that all
- 19:30AdSense will be donated to
- 19:32the GoFundMe for Lazar's family.
- 19:38The AdSense is Google's way
- 19:39of paying YouTubers for what,
- 19:44for what monetization comes through.
- 19:47And the comment is,
- 19:48are you guys going to write
- 19:49off the donations on your tax return?
- 19:52We can skip the Heller part.
- 19:54He realized that receiving
- 19:55any monetary compensation,
- 19:56even if it is then donated,
- 19:59that is earned primarily
- 20:00due to a person's death is
- 20:02just a really bad look.
- 20:04So here's a group of people
- 20:06trying to do a good thing
- 20:10by donating the money that
- 20:11they get from this because
- 20:12they are content creators.
- 20:13That's what they do.
- 20:15And not taking any money for themselves,
- 20:17but to do it and give the money away.
- 20:20And we've got to have people
- 20:21like this attacking them.
- 20:24I find it stupid.
- 20:30Yeah, they took that comment down too.
- 20:32But people just have like
- 20:36itchy trigger fingers right
- 20:38now on the internet.
- 20:38I feel like you can't do anything right.
- 20:42The training Think Tank
- 20:44podcast that you mentioned
- 20:46to us to listen to, it was really good.
- 20:48And I thought Travis Mayer
- 20:50and the other guys did a
- 20:53great job of talking about,
- 20:54you guys from home have no
- 20:56idea what it felt like to be there.
- 20:58And Sky,
- 21:00I know you and Katz both said that too,
- 21:02which was a really good
- 21:03perspective because the
- 21:04only thing we had to go on
- 21:06was social media, basically.
- 21:08And it was so negative and so hateful.
- 21:13And so it was hard to even
- 21:17pull up anything on your
- 21:20phone over that weekend
- 21:21because it was so negative.
- 21:23When people on the internet
- 21:24were saying everything
- 21:25looked like it was back to
- 21:26normal was the biggest
- 21:29irritant for me the whole
- 21:31weekend because in no way, shape,
- 21:33or form was that weekend
- 21:34normal for us there.
- 21:36Right.
- 21:36Right.
- 21:39No, and even hearing, you know,
- 21:40Travis's perspective, too,
- 21:42of the athletes and sort of
- 21:43what happened behind the scenes and how,
- 21:47you know,
- 21:47the warm-up areas were and the
- 21:50corralling and all of that.
- 21:51Like,
- 21:51we didn't have insight into that either.
- 21:53Scott and I didn't.
- 21:54But you can only imagine, like,
- 21:55that was so different as well.
- 21:56It's like the whole thing was just crazy.
- 22:00I mean, and even I felt like I even –
- 22:03was at odds sometimes with my own friends,
- 22:05like even Scott and I
- 22:06during the weekend had
- 22:08differing opinions and we're like,
- 22:10wait a minute.
- 22:11No, you know, no, no, not, I mean, it just,
- 22:13everybody was on edge and rightfully so,
- 22:16but yeah,
- 22:17that shit makes you do weird stuff.
- 22:20And the whole part I kept
- 22:21thinking about when we're
- 22:22thinking about the,
- 22:23the community so divided right now,
- 22:25like with,
- 22:26with what was the right thing
- 22:27to do or how people grieved.
- 22:28And
- 22:30what I like kept going back
- 22:31to and thinking is no matter what though,
- 22:33all of those athletes that
- 22:34were there are trauma bonded now.
- 22:37Like they,
- 22:38nobody else knows what that
- 22:39experience was like.
- 22:40And,
- 22:41and my hope is that someday that that
- 22:43will kind of bring them
- 22:44closer to being together,
- 22:46even if in the moment they
- 22:47needed to respond and react
- 22:49in a different, in a different way.
- 22:53Yeah.
- 22:54Yeah.
- 22:54You're right about that.
- 22:55Yeah.
- 22:57one thing I know we said we
- 22:58were going to try to do is
- 22:59share a memory every week
- 23:02and as I was watching the
- 23:03buttery bros uh thing which
- 23:06the last 10 minutes was
- 23:09like that should have been
- 23:10the memorial yeah it was
- 23:12great um you're about to
- 23:20get ice in the veins from
- 23:21those immunotherapies
- 23:24I wish I would have started them, but no.
- 23:26Yeah.
- 23:31So if you haven't watched
- 23:33the Buttery Burrows,
- 23:34it was just a pretty long episode.
- 23:37It was like an hour and 45 minutes.
- 23:39Yeah.
- 23:40I napped in the middle of it, but yeah,
- 23:42it was good.
- 23:42It was, the end was really good.
- 23:44But I just thought they did,
- 23:45they did overall,
- 23:46like they did a really good
- 23:47job of storytelling,
- 23:50but also I think being respectful,
- 23:52respectful storytelling.
- 23:54Yeah, for sure.
- 23:58I liked how they let the
- 23:59athletes speak about their time,
- 24:02like we've been doing on this show.
- 24:05And so one memory that kind
- 24:07of came up to me was I'd
- 24:10gone to Rogue in 21?
- 24:11Maybe?
- 24:13Yeah.
- 24:13And
- 24:23Worked as a PA for the documentary.
- 24:28And part of that was really
- 24:30just equipping the camera
- 24:31people with their batteries.
- 24:34So it was stationed in the
- 24:34third base dugout where all
- 24:36the athletes would come
- 24:36wait to be announced out
- 24:38onto the grounds.
- 24:41So I'm just sitting there
- 24:42with a couple of volunteers.
- 24:44And every time Lazar would
- 24:46come into the dugout,
- 24:48he would fist bump me.
- 24:52And the volunteers are like,
- 24:53do you know him?
- 24:54And before I could say anything,
- 24:57Lazarus was like,
- 24:58he's my good luck charm.
- 25:02And, uh,
- 25:03and like that memory came back
- 25:06because of what the buttery
- 25:07brush showed and like was
- 25:09so much like every
- 25:11experience I had with Lazarus.
- 25:13So I don't know.
- 25:15I just wanted to share that one today.
- 25:18I love how honest everybody was too.
- 25:20Like how they were talking
- 25:21about how fun he was to be around,
- 25:22but how they were like, yeah,
- 25:23he was the biggest shit talker.
- 25:27And I, but I love that,
- 25:28that they weren't like, Oh, you know,
- 25:30like it's true.
- 25:32He was.
- 25:33Yeah.
- 25:35And I think it was Brent
- 25:36that was saying something about like,
- 25:38he was really sad at the
- 25:40award ceremony because usually they,
- 25:42you know,
- 25:42they all get pizza and sit down
- 25:43and he's like,
- 25:44and I'd look for Lazar
- 25:45because he's just fun to hang out with.
- 25:48And I think that was a big
- 25:50piece that was missed this weekend too.
- 25:52You know,
- 25:52I understand why it couldn't
- 25:53happen or didn't happen the way it did,
- 25:55but, you know, bringing Mike,
- 25:58there for the first time and
- 25:59trying to explain to him what it's like.
- 26:02I mean, that kid,
- 26:03he has no idea what the
- 26:04CrossFit Games is like.
- 26:06And the award ceremony, I'm like, no,
- 26:09you don't understand.
- 26:10People take off their shoes
- 26:11and they announce the
- 26:12winners of the events.
- 26:13And they're all ribbing and
- 26:14joshing and eating pizza, drinking beer.
- 26:17And it's just the coolest thing ever.
- 26:20And that's just a big piece
- 26:22of it where the athletes
- 26:23can relax and be themselves.
- 26:25And it's when they probably
- 26:26do most of their bonding
- 26:28over the weekend because, you know,
- 26:30competition's over and
- 26:31their guard is down and all that.
- 26:33So just suck that that
- 26:35didn't get to happen, you know,
- 26:37with or without him.
- 26:39And the other true thing is
- 26:41you learn about the fire of
- 26:43Lazar and Brent saying that
- 26:46there was never a
- 26:47competition where Lazar
- 26:49didn't find the bad ref or the bad judge.
- 26:52Yeah.
- 26:52Yeah.
- 26:53Those are the stories.
- 26:54I mean,
- 26:54like people didn't shy away from
- 26:55sharing those stories.
- 26:57That was great.
- 26:57It's true.
- 26:58Yeah.
- 26:58Yeah.
- 27:00And we've seen firsthand up
- 27:02close him yelling at a judge.
- 27:05Going crazy.
- 27:05Yeah.
- 27:07Yeah.
- 27:08Which is awesome.
- 27:09That's passion.
- 27:10Yeah.
- 27:11It comes both ways.
- 27:13Here's competitor.
- 27:16Well,
- 27:16we only have a couple of minutes left.
- 27:17And one thing I talked about
- 27:20Sunday night that I just
- 27:20wanted to kind of reiterate
- 27:22and maybe try to say clear this,
- 27:25this week is I'm having
- 27:26some issues with the PFAA in its concept.
- 27:31I like what it is.
- 27:32And I think that the
- 27:32athletes need a voice and
- 27:34they need a unified voice and
- 27:37But I don't know that where
- 27:39the PFA is today is that voice.
- 27:44I've been a member of a
- 27:45professional organization
- 27:47like my entire time with the state.
- 27:49We have a professional
- 27:50organization that covers
- 27:51the work that we do day to day.
- 27:55Hi, Sprinkles.
- 27:57And so with that
- 27:58professional organization
- 28:00are elected officials that represent you.
- 28:03And whenever there's a
- 28:06change to the bylaws or
- 28:07anything like that,
- 28:09there is a vote that
- 28:10happens and you as members
- 28:12pay dues to have a voting right to then
- 28:16vote on those changes or to
- 28:19vote on something that's done.
- 28:21The PFA puts out a statement
- 28:23with three demands saying
- 28:25that they represent the
- 28:27interest of those who
- 28:29competed in the CrossFit Games season.
- 28:32I have never,
- 28:33ever seen a roster of
- 28:35athletes that are members of the PFAA.
- 28:38I don't know who they represent.
- 28:41I don't know,
- 28:42are there dues paying members?
- 28:44They have a board of directors,
- 28:45were they self-appointed or
- 28:47were they elected?
- 28:48Like these are things that
- 28:50the PFAA demands
- 28:51transparency from CrossFit.
- 28:54And those are all things
- 28:55that we don't know about
- 28:57their organization.
- 28:59I want them to have a voice.
- 29:01I want them to be able to
- 29:04speak freely about what
- 29:05they think needs to be
- 29:07safer or what they need to
- 29:09be more fair competition.
- 29:11But doggone it,
- 29:12like figure your own shit out.
- 29:15And tell me who your members
- 29:17are and do it in a way that
- 29:19makes sense so that you are
- 29:21representing a group of
- 29:23athletes who have a say
- 29:25either by voting rights or
- 29:27through internal meetings,
- 29:29not just a club of self-appointed people.
- 29:35Yeah, I agree.
- 29:37I think that athletes need
- 29:38to take a stand whether
- 29:41they're part of it or not.
- 29:42And I think before when
- 29:46maybe some of these
- 29:46decisions weren't so
- 29:48critical or so divisive.
- 29:52I think it was easy for them to just say,
- 29:55we represent the athletes, right?
- 29:57The best interest of the athletes.
- 29:58And, you know,
- 29:59certainly anybody that's
- 30:00going to compete in a
- 30:01semifinal or in at the CrossFit games,
- 30:04you know,
- 30:04would have something to gain by
- 30:05being aligned by the PFAA
- 30:07because they're looking out
- 30:07for their safety when it comes to,
- 30:10you know, box height and rope length and,
- 30:13you know, is this a fair standard,
- 30:14that kind of thing.
- 30:15But when, but when it comes to,
- 30:17when they're putting their
- 30:17foot down and saying like,
- 30:18we have demands, I agree.
- 30:21I think,
- 30:21I think we need to know who
- 30:24exactly are they
- 30:25representing because it's,
- 30:27it can't just be this sort
- 30:28of blanket statement of, you know,
- 30:30we represent the interests
- 30:31of the athletes.
- 30:33It's like, okay, but you know,
- 30:35you're asking for some serious shit.
- 30:37Well, I mean,
- 30:38I hear what you guys are saying.
- 30:39I'm not totally disagreeing.
- 30:41But I think the other
- 30:42perspective that I see is
- 30:44that they're also trying to
- 30:47throw some leadership with
- 30:48some confidence in there, too.
- 30:49And I think that they're trying to say,
- 30:53like,
- 30:54we don't want to be pushed over anymore.
- 30:55Like,
- 30:56they need to have an important part
- 30:58or they need to be a part
- 30:58of some of these conversations.
- 31:00And so I think that's where
- 31:01the language of the demands come from.
- 31:04I hear what you guys I hear
- 31:05what you're saying.
- 31:05Mm hmm.
- 31:07I'm just saying I,
- 31:07whenever I see things just
- 31:09because of the nature of who I am,
- 31:11I like to look at like, okay, what is,
- 31:14what's behind the behavior
- 31:15of what's making this happen?
- 31:16What, what is the behavior?
- 31:18What's encouraging this response?
- 31:21And I think it's something
- 31:22that they started four
- 31:23years ago and they're
- 31:24feeling it's incredibly
- 31:28like it's so important
- 31:29right now to make sure that
- 31:30they're heard loudly.
- 31:32They started it, though,
- 31:34and they haven't been inclusive,
- 31:37in my opinion.
- 31:38There are eight people
- 31:39signed to those demands.
- 31:41If it's a demand of eight
- 31:42people or a demand of 200 athletes,
- 31:46that's a very different demand.
- 31:49Or 2,000.
- 31:50Right.
- 31:51I've asked semifinal athletes.
- 31:53None of them have asked to
- 31:54be a member of the PFAA.
- 31:56I've asked Masters athletes.
- 31:58None of them have been asked
- 32:00to be members of the PFAA.
- 32:02Now the PFAA is stepping in
- 32:04to work with things like
- 32:06Wadapalooza SoCal.
- 32:08They're moving in to work
- 32:09with NorCal Classic.
- 32:12Now you're representing all
- 32:13the athletes in that field.
- 32:15Those are...
- 32:16community events those are
- 32:18semi-final level athletes
- 32:19those are masters athletes
- 32:21those are teen athletes how
- 32:24can you say you represent
- 32:25all those athletes when
- 32:26you're not letting any of
- 32:27them be members of your
- 32:29association well I think we
- 32:33need to get more
- 32:33information about it
- 32:34ourselves I think they need
- 32:36to give us more information
- 32:38like they're demanding of crossfit
- 32:43Sure.
- 32:43I'm just saying,
- 32:44just as you've been saying,
- 32:46we need to wait until we
- 32:47have all the information.
- 32:48Hey,
- 32:48maybe we also need to make sure that
- 32:50we have all the information.
- 32:54Right.
- 32:54I'm not arguing with Amy
- 32:56that I think that the
- 32:58athletes need a voice.
- 33:00I do think they need a voice.
- 33:02I do.
- 33:03And maybe the statements
- 33:04that were made are valid
- 33:06across more people than we think.
- 33:08I'm asking just for the
- 33:09transparency that they're
- 33:10asking for in what athletes
- 33:12are making this statement.
- 33:16And that becomes really
- 33:17difficult now that Dave's
- 33:19head's on a platter.
- 33:22I think that doing that is
- 33:23going to make it very
- 33:24difficult for some athletes
- 33:26to come out and say they're a part of it.
- 33:32Yeah.
- 33:33Regardless.
- 33:34Because, because it's so, you know,
- 33:37what's that?
- 33:38Put it out there for them to,
- 33:40to be allowed to be a part
- 33:41of it and to have a voting
- 33:43right into what the demands are.
- 33:45Yeah.
- 33:50And then if you say like,
- 33:51we have a membership base
- 33:53of a thousand people and
- 33:5473% voted that we want Dave on a platter,
- 33:59that, that means something.
- 34:01Right.
- 34:05I'm not saying I'm not, well,
- 34:08I may or may not agree with this.
- 34:10The, the request made,
- 34:12they have the entitlement to make them.
- 34:14I just want to know what
- 34:15impact it truly has by how
- 34:18many athletes are involved.
- 34:24And I think it was premature
- 34:26and I think it became very
- 34:27divisive in the community.
- 34:29Yeah,
- 34:29and I don't necessarily agree with
- 34:31the last demand either.
- 34:33But I just am trying to look at it as,
- 34:36yeah,
- 34:37I think we don't have all the
- 34:38information about the PFAA.
- 34:40And I hear what you're saying, you know,
- 34:41they haven't given us all
- 34:42the information or any information.
- 34:48Yeah.
- 34:49Well,
- 34:50we all just sit back and scroll
- 34:51Instagram and wait for
- 34:52someone to make a post, unfortunately,
- 34:54is how we get all of our information,
- 34:56which also sucks.
- 34:59Yeah.
- 34:59That is such a bad,
- 35:01bad precedence that the
- 35:02entire CrossFit world is bad at.
- 35:06Just this Masters thing this weekend,
- 35:10Bob and Joe go on this
- 35:11podcast and they release
- 35:12this information.
- 35:14They go on this podcast and
- 35:15they release this information.
- 35:17How do you get to all the
- 35:19podcasts to make sure you
- 35:20have everything you need as an athlete?
- 35:23Hear me out.
- 35:25What if they had a media?
- 35:29Right.
- 35:29I mean, it should be coming from their,
- 35:34you know, official.
- 35:35And even the fact that the
- 35:36Instagram is the sort of
- 35:39channel of delivery is
- 35:40still kind of annoying to me, but.
- 35:43Yeah.
- 35:43We're talking,
- 35:44you've added a 70 plus division.
- 35:48Like in the master division,
- 35:50are you guaranteed all
- 35:51these people have Instagram?
- 35:53Right.
- 35:54I know.
- 35:55Emails, something, you know, WhatsApp.
- 36:01What, Charlie?
- 36:02They're probably at MySpace.
- 36:06You have to write them a
- 36:07letter or mail it to them.
- 36:09On their AOL accounts.
- 36:11Yes.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:12Their dial-up connections.
- 36:15Yeah.
- 36:16Yeah, I know.
- 36:16We need a lot more
- 36:17information about a lot of
- 36:20things still left unanswered.
- 36:22You guys got my text this
- 36:23morning about the medical
- 36:26examiner's information that
- 36:28it could take another six
- 36:29to eight weeks before we
- 36:30get information on
- 36:31Lazar's cause of death,
- 36:33which also just leaves things to churn.
- 36:36Yeah.
- 36:38Uh, so Brent McCarty, uh, Wu Tang clan fan,
- 36:41uh,
- 36:42I bet there have been athletes asked
- 36:43to join and they are afraid
- 36:45to say something.
- 36:47I know for a fact that like
- 36:48Carolyn Priva was asked to join,
- 36:52but all that meant when she
- 36:54joined is she got like the newsletter,
- 36:56uh,
- 36:59according to her.
- 37:01And I don't know what that, like,
- 37:03it didn't sound like she
- 37:04had any voting rights on
- 37:06what they said or who they,
- 37:09what demands they were
- 37:10making or anything like that.
- 37:13So.
- 37:14Yeah.
- 37:15And you remember when we,
- 37:16when we interviewed Brent, he even said,
- 37:18maybe it was us or somebody did.
- 37:20He was talking about this Brent.
- 37:22He was talking about the
- 37:23conversation around the responsibility of,
- 37:26you know,
- 37:27leading that organization and how,
- 37:29you know,
- 37:29they wanted to write bylaws and
- 37:30do all these things.
- 37:31And he's like, quite frankly, he's like,
- 37:32I just don't have the time to do that.
- 37:34I'm training to be a professional athlete.
- 37:37And I remember even thinking to myself,
- 37:38like, I wonder if, you know,
- 37:40someone like you or I,
- 37:41Scott could jump in, you know,
- 37:43and be that part, like, you know,
- 37:45play an administrative role in that,
- 37:47in that area.
- 37:48And, you know,
- 37:49obviously nothing came of that,
- 37:50but he himself admits that he's got,
- 37:54he's like,
- 37:57That's the problem.
- 37:58That's the problem.
- 38:00It's one man and one man's
- 38:01opinion and one man writing,
- 38:02not a unified athlete group.
- 38:07If you get dues from people
- 38:09like my professional association,
- 38:11I think the dues yearly are 60 bucks,
- 38:14right?
- 38:14It's not anything that breaks the bank,
- 38:16but what you can do with
- 38:17that money is then hire
- 38:18someone to write the bylaws.
- 38:19Yeah.
- 38:21Right.
- 38:22And so that's where the,
- 38:25I think they need to go.
- 38:28Um,
- 38:28but that's where I'm going to leave it
- 38:30today.
- 38:31Unless you guys have something else.
- 38:33I have a one o'clock meeting
- 38:34here in Eastern time.
- 38:36So real jobs.
- 38:37Yeah.
- 38:38So I just want to come get
- 38:41everybody revved up and then walk out.
- 38:43I don't even have any food in my kitchen.
- 38:47And not even a can of tuna.
- 38:49Nope.
- 38:50Nope.
- 38:52All empty.
- 38:52I'm going to have to go
- 38:53shopping before school starts.
- 38:57All right, guys.
- 38:58Well, you guys don't have anything else.
- 39:02Thanks for being here.
- 39:03We're here every week.
- 39:04Next week,
- 39:05we'll kind of recap the weekend
- 39:07from the Masters.
- 39:09Don't forget to support the teams, too.
- 39:10They're going off in
- 39:12Michigan this weekend.
- 39:14Everything's going to be streamed,
- 39:15so you can check those out
- 39:17on games.crossfit.com or
- 39:20their separate YouTube channels,
- 39:21I believe, as well.
- 39:23So go ahead and check that out.
- 39:24We will see everybody next
- 39:26time on the Clydesdale Media Roundtable.
- 39:29Bye, guys.
