- 0:00Speaker 1: Mormon chapter four up to the Book of Ether Mormon
- 0:05Speaker 1: chapter four. And now it came to pass that in
- 0:09Speaker 1: the three hundred and sixty and third year, the Nephites
- 0:14Speaker 1: did go up with their armies to battle against the
- 0:18Speaker 1: Lamanites out of the land Desolation. And it came to
- 0:23Speaker 1: pass that the armies of the Nephites were driven back
- 0:27Speaker 1: again to the land of Desolation. And while they were
- 0:31Speaker 1: yet weary, a fresh army of the Lamanites did come
- 0:35Speaker 1: upon them, and they had a sore battle, insomuch that
- 0:40Speaker 1: the Lamanites did take possession of the city Desolation, and
- 0:45Speaker 1: did slay many of the Nephites, and did take many prisoners,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and the remainder did flee and join the inhabitants of
- 0:54Speaker 1: the city Tiancum. Now the city Tiancum lay the borders
- 1:00Speaker 1: by the seashore, and it was also near the city Desolation.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And it was because the armies of the Nephites went
- 1:09Speaker 1: up unto the Lamanites that they began to be smitten.
- 1:14Speaker 1: For were it not for that, the Lamanites could have
- 1:18Speaker 1: had no power over them. But behold, the judgments of
- 1:23Speaker 1: God will overtake the wicked, And it is by the
- 1:26Speaker 1: wicked that the wicked are punished, for it is the
- 1:30Speaker 1: wicked that stir up the hearts of the children of
- 1:33Speaker 1: men unto bloodshed. And it came to pass that the
- 1:38Speaker 1: Lamanites did make preparations to come against the city Tiancum,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and it came to pass in the three one hundred
- 1:47Speaker 1: and sixty and fourth year the Lamanites did come against
- 1:51Speaker 1: the city Tiancum, that they might take possession of the
- 1:55Speaker 1: city Tiancum also, and it came to pass that they
- 1:59Speaker 1: were pulsed and driven back by the Nephytes. And when
- 2:04Speaker 1: the Nephites saw that they had driven the Lamanites, they
- 2:08Speaker 1: did again boast of their own strength, and they went
- 2:11Speaker 1: forth in their own might and took possession again of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the city Desolation. And now all these things had been done,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and there had been thousands slain on both sides, both
- 2:25Speaker 1: the Nephytes and the Lamanites. And it came to pass
- 2:30Speaker 1: that the three hundred and sixty and sixth year had
- 2:34Speaker 1: passed away, and the Lamanites came again upon the Nephites
- 2:39Speaker 1: to battle. And yet the Nephites repented not of the
- 2:43Speaker 1: evil they had done, but persisted in their wickedness continually,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and it is impossible for the tongue to describe, or
- 2:53Speaker 1: for man to write a perfect description of the horrible
- 2:58Speaker 1: scene of the blood and carnage which was among the people,
- 3:02Speaker 1: both of the Nephites and of the Lamanites. And every
- 3:06Speaker 1: heart was hardened, so that they delighted in the shedding
- 3:10Speaker 1: of blood continually. And there never had been so great
- 3:15Speaker 1: wickedness among all the children of Lehi, nor even among
- 3:20Speaker 1: all the House of Israel, according to the words of
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Lord, as was among this people. And it came
- 3:29Speaker 1: to pass that the Lamanites did take possession of the
- 3:32Speaker 1: city Desolation, and this because their number did exceed the
- 3:37Speaker 1: number of the Nephites. And they did also march forward
- 3:42Speaker 1: against the city Tiancum, and did drive the inhabitants forth
- 3:47Speaker 1: out of her, and did take many prisoners, both women
- 3:51Speaker 1: and children, and did offer them up as sacrifices unto
- 3:56Speaker 1: their idol gods. And it came to pass that in
- 4:01Speaker 1: the three one hundred and sixty and seventh year, the Nephtes,
- 4:06Speaker 1: being angry because the Lamanites had sacrificed their women and
- 4:11Speaker 1: their children, that they did go against the Lamanites with
- 4:15Speaker 1: exceedingly great anger, insomuch that they did beat again the
- 4:20Speaker 1: Lamanites and drive them out of their lands. And the
- 4:25Speaker 1: Lamanites did not come again against the Nephytes until the
- 4:29Speaker 1: three one hundred and seventy and fifth year. And in
- 4:34Speaker 1: this year they did come down against the Knphtes with
- 4:38Speaker 1: all their powers, and they were not numbered because of
- 4:42Speaker 1: the greatness of their number. And from this time forth
- 4:46Speaker 1: did the Nephites gain no power over the Lamanites, but
- 4:50Speaker 1: began to be swept off by them, even as a
- 4:54Speaker 1: do before the sun. And it came to pass that
- 4:58Speaker 1: the Lamanites did come down against the city Desolation, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: there was an exceedingly sore battle fought in the land Desolation,
- 5:08Speaker 1: in which they did beat the Nephites, and they fled
- 5:12Speaker 1: again from before them, and they came to the city Boaz,
- 5:17Speaker 1: and there they did stand against the Lamanites with exceeding boldness,
- 5:23Speaker 1: insomuch that the Lamanites did not beat them until they
- 5:28Speaker 1: had come again the second time. And when they had
- 5:32Speaker 1: come the second time, the Nephites were driven and slaughtered
- 5:37Speaker 1: with an exceedingly great slaughter. Their women and their children
- 5:41Speaker 1: were again sacrificed unto idols, and it came to pass
- 5:47Speaker 1: that the Nephites did again flee from before them, taking
- 5:50Speaker 1: all the inhabitants with them, both in towns and villages.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And now I Mormon, seeing that the Laymanis were about
- 6:01Speaker 1: to overthrow the land. Therefore I did go to the
- 6:05Speaker 1: hill Shim and did take up all the records which
- 6:10Speaker 1: Amarn had hid up unto the Lord Mormon, Chapter five.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And it came to pass that I did go forth
- 6:19Speaker 1: among the Nephites and did repent of the oath which
- 6:23Speaker 1: I had made, that I would no more assist them.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And they gave me command again of their armies. For
- 6:30Speaker 1: they looked upon me as though I could deliver them
- 6:33Speaker 1: from their afflictions. But behold, I was without hope, for
- 6:38Speaker 1: I knew the judgments of the Lord which should come
- 6:41Speaker 1: upon them. And they repented not of their iniquities, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: did struggle for their lives without calling upon that being
- 6:50Speaker 1: who created them. And it came to pass that the
- 6:54Speaker 1: Lamanites did come against us, as we had fled to
- 6:57Speaker 1: the city of Jordan. But behold, they were driven back,
- 7:02Speaker 1: that they did not take the city at that time.
- 7:06Speaker 1: And it came to pass that they came against us again,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and we did maintain the city. And there were also
- 7:14Speaker 1: other cities which were maintained by Nephites, which strongholds did
- 7:19Speaker 1: cut them off when they could not get into the
- 7:22Speaker 1: country which lay before us, to destroy the inhabitants of
- 7:28Speaker 1: our land. And it came to pass that whatsoever lands
- 7:32Speaker 1: we had passed by, and the inhabitants thereof were not
- 7:36Speaker 1: gathered in, were destroyed by the Lamanites, and their towns
- 7:40Speaker 1: and villages and cities were burned with fire. And thus
- 7:45Speaker 1: three hundred and seventy and nine years passed away, and
- 7:50Speaker 1: it came to pass that in the three hundred and
- 7:52Speaker 1: eightieth year, the Lamanites did come again against us to battle,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and we did stand against them boldly, but it was
- 8:00Speaker 1: all in vain, for so great were their numbers that
- 8:04Speaker 1: they did tread the people of the Nephites under their feet.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And it came to pass that we did again take
- 8:11Speaker 1: to flight, and those whose flight was swifter than the
- 8:14Speaker 1: Lamanites did escape, and those whose flight did not exceed
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Lamanites were swept down and destroyed. And now behold,
- 8:25Speaker 1: I Mormon do not desire to harrow up the souls
- 8:30Speaker 1: of men in casting before them such an awful scene
- 8:35Speaker 1: of blood and carnage, as was laid before mine eyes.
- 8:39Speaker 1: But I knowing that these things must surely be made known,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and that all things which are hid must be revealed
- 8:48Speaker 1: upon the housetops. And also that a knowledge of these
- 8:53Speaker 1: things must come unto the remnant of this people, and
- 8:57Speaker 1: also unto the gentiles, who the Lord hath said should
- 9:02Speaker 1: scatter this people, and this people should be counted as
- 9:06Speaker 1: not among them. Therefore I write a small abridgment, daring
- 9:12Speaker 1: not to give a full account of the things which
- 9:15Speaker 1: I have seen, because of the commandment which I have received,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and also that ye might not have too great sorrow
- 9:25Speaker 1: because of the wickedness of this people. And now behold
- 9:30Speaker 1: this I speak unto their seed, and also to the
- 9:34Speaker 1: gentiles who have care for the House of Israel, that
- 9:38Speaker 1: realize and know from whence their blessings come. For I
- 9:43Speaker 1: know that such will sorrow for the calamity of the
- 9:47Speaker 1: House of Israel. Yea, they will sorrow for the destruction
- 9:52Speaker 1: of this people. They will sorrow that this people had
- 9:56Speaker 1: not repented, that they might have been clasped in the
- 10:00Speaker 1: arms of Jesus. Now these things are written unto the
- 10:05Speaker 1: remnant of the House of Jacob. And they are written
- 10:09Speaker 1: after this manner, because it is known of God that
- 10:12Speaker 1: wickedness will not bring them forth unto them, And they
- 10:17Speaker 1: are to be hid up unto the Lord, that they
- 10:20Speaker 1: may come forth in his own due time. And this
- 10:25Speaker 1: is the commandment which I have received. And behold, they
- 10:30Speaker 1: shall come forth according to the commandment of the Lord,
- 10:34Speaker 1: when he shall see fit in his wisdom. And behold
- 10:40Speaker 1: they shall go unto the unbelieving of the Jews. And
- 10:44Speaker 1: for this intent shall they go, that they may be
- 10:48Speaker 1: persuaded that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the
- 10:52Speaker 1: Living God, that the Father may bring about through his
- 10:57Speaker 1: most beloved, his great and an eternal purpose, in restoring
- 11:02Speaker 1: the Jews of all the House of Israel to the
- 11:06Speaker 1: land of their inheritance, which the Lord their God hath
- 11:11Speaker 1: given them unto the fulfilling of his covenant. And also
- 11:16Speaker 1: that the seed of this people may more fully believe
- 11:19Speaker 1: His gospel, which shall go forth unto them from the Gentiles.
- 11:24Speaker 1: For this people shall be scattered and shall become a dark,
- 11:29Speaker 1: a filthy, and a loathsome people beyond the description of
- 11:33Speaker 1: that whichever hath been amongst us, yea even that which
- 11:39Speaker 1: hath been among the Lamanites. And this because of their
- 11:43Speaker 1: unbelief and idolatry. For behold, the spirit of the Lord
- 11:50Speaker 1: Hath already ceased to strive with their fathers. And they
- 11:53Speaker 1: are without Christ and God in the world, and they
- 11:57Speaker 1: are driven out as chaff before the wind. They were
- 12:02Speaker 1: once a delightsome people, and they had Christ for their shepherd. Yea,
- 12:07Speaker 1: they were led even by God the Father. But now behold,
- 12:12Speaker 1: they are led about by Satan, even as chaff is
- 12:16Speaker 1: driven before the wind, or as a vessel is tossed
- 12:20Speaker 1: about upon the waves without sail or anchor, or without
- 12:25Speaker 1: anything wherewith to steer her. And even as she is,
- 12:30Speaker 1: so are they. And behold, the Lord hath reserved their
- 12:35Speaker 1: blessings which they might have received in the land, for
- 12:40Speaker 1: the gentiles, who shall possess the land. But behold, it
- 12:45Speaker 1: shall come to pass that they shall be driven and
- 12:49Speaker 1: scattered by the gentiles. And after they have been driven
- 12:53Speaker 1: and scattered by the gentiles, Behold, then will the Lord
- 12:57Speaker 1: remember the covenant which he made aid unto Abraham and
- 13:02Speaker 1: unto all the house of Israel. And also the Lord
- 13:07Speaker 1: will remember the prayers of the righteous which have been
- 13:10Speaker 1: put up unto him for them. And then, oh, ye gentiles,
- 13:16Speaker 1: how can ye stand before the power of God, except
- 13:21Speaker 1: ye shall repent and turn from your evil ways? Know
- 13:26Speaker 1: ye not that ye are in the hands of God,
- 13:29Speaker 1: Know ye not that He hath all power, and at
- 13:32Speaker 1: his great command the earth shall be rolled together as
- 13:37Speaker 1: a scroll. Therefore, repent ye and humble yourselves before Him,
- 13:43Speaker 1: lest he shall come out in justice against you, lest
- 13:47Speaker 1: a remnant of the seed of Jacob shall go forth
- 13:51Speaker 1: among you as a lion and tear you in pieces.
- 13:55Speaker 1: And there is none to deliver Mormon chapter And now
- 14:01Speaker 1: I finish my record concerning the destruction of my people,
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Nephites. And it came to pass that we did
- 14:09Speaker 1: march forth before the Lamanites. And I Mormon wrote an
- 14:14Speaker 1: epistle unto the King of the Lamanites, and desired of
- 14:18Speaker 1: him that he would grant unto us, that we might
- 14:22Speaker 1: gather together our people unto the land of Camorra by
- 14:26Speaker 1: a hill which was called Kimora, and there we could
- 14:30Speaker 1: give them battle. And it came to pass that the
- 14:34Speaker 1: King of the Lamanites did grant unto me the thing
- 14:38Speaker 1: which I desired. And it came to pass that we
- 14:42Speaker 1: did march forth to the land of Camorra, and we
- 14:46Speaker 1: did pitch our tents around about the hill Camora. And
- 14:50Speaker 1: it was in a land of many waters, rivers and fountains.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And here we had hoped to gain advantage over the Lamanites.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And when three hundred and eighty and four years had
- 15:03Speaker 1: passed away, we had gathered in all the remainder of
- 15:07Speaker 1: our people unto the land of Kimora. And it came
- 15:12Speaker 1: to pass that when we had gathered in all our
- 15:15Speaker 1: people in one to the land of Camora, behold, I Mormon,
- 15:21Speaker 1: began to be old, and knowing it to be the
- 15:25Speaker 1: last struggle of my people, and having been commanded of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the Lord, that I should not suffer the records which
- 15:33Speaker 1: had been handed down by our fathers, which were sacred,
- 15:38Speaker 1: to fall into the hands of the Lamanites, for the
- 15:41Speaker 1: Lamanites would destroy them. Therefore I made this record out
- 15:46Speaker 1: of the plates of Nephi, and hid up in the
- 15:49Speaker 1: hill Camorra. All the records which had been entrusted to
- 15:53Speaker 1: me by the hand of the Lord. Save it worth
- 15:57Speaker 1: these few plates which I gave unto my son Moroni.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And it came to pass that my people, with their
- 16:06Speaker 1: wives and their children. Did now behold the armies of
- 16:10Speaker 1: the Lamanites marching towards them, And with that awful fear
- 16:15Speaker 1: of death which fills the breasts of all the wicked,
- 16:19Speaker 1: did they await to receive them. And it came to
- 16:23Speaker 1: pass that they came to battle against us, And every
- 16:27Speaker 1: soul was filled with terror because of the greatness of
- 16:31Speaker 1: their numbers. And it came to pass that they did
- 16:35Speaker 1: fall upon my people with the sword, and with the bow,
- 16:39Speaker 1: and with the arrow, and with the axe, and with
- 16:43Speaker 1: all manner of weapons of war. And it came to
- 16:46Speaker 1: pass that my men were hewn down. Yea, even my
- 16:51Speaker 1: ten thousand who were with me and I fell wounded
- 16:55Speaker 1: in the midst and they passed by me, that they
- 16:58Speaker 1: did not put an end to my life. And when
- 17:01Speaker 1: they had gone through and hewn down all my people
- 17:05Speaker 1: save it were twenty and four of us, among whom
- 17:08Speaker 1: was my son Moroni. And we, having survived the dead
- 17:13Speaker 1: of our people, did behold on the morrow, when the
- 17:17Speaker 1: Lamanites had returned unto their camps, from the top of
- 17:21Speaker 1: the hill Camora, the ten thousand of my people who
- 17:25Speaker 1: were hewn down, being led in the front by me,
- 17:30Speaker 1: and we also beheld the ten thousand of my people
- 17:34Speaker 1: who were led by my son Moroni. And behold, the
- 17:39Speaker 1: ten thousand of Gidgidona had fallen, and he also in
- 17:44Speaker 1: the midst and Laima had fallen with his ten thousand,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and Gilgal had fallen with his ten thousand, and Limha
- 17:54Speaker 1: had fallen with his ten thousand, and Genium had fallen
- 17:59Speaker 1: with his ten thousand. And Kumniha and Moroniha, and Antionum
- 18:06Speaker 1: and Shiblom and Shem and Josh had fallen with their
- 18:11Speaker 1: ten thousand each. And it came to pass that there
- 18:16Speaker 1: were ten more who did fall by the sword with
- 18:20Speaker 1: their ten thousand each. Yea, even all my people save
- 18:25Speaker 1: it were those twenty and four who were with me,
- 18:28Speaker 1: And also a few who had escaped into the south countries,
- 18:33Speaker 1: and a few who had deserted over unto the Lamanites
- 18:37Speaker 1: had fallen. And their flesh and bones and blood lay
- 18:42Speaker 1: upon the face of the earth, being left by the
- 18:45Speaker 1: hands of those who slew them to molder upon the
- 18:49Speaker 1: land and to crumble, and to return to their mother earth.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And my soul was rent with anguish because of the
- 19:00Speaker 1: slain of my people. And I cried, oh ye fair ones,
- 19:06Speaker 1: How could ye have departed from the ways of the Lord? Oh, ye,
- 19:11Speaker 1: fair ones, how could ye have rejected that Jesus, who
- 19:15Speaker 1: stood with open arms to receive you. Behold, if ye
- 19:21Speaker 1: had not done this, ye would not have fallen. But behold,
- 19:26Speaker 1: ye are fallen. And I mourn your loss. Oh ye
- 19:31Speaker 1: fair sons and daughters, Ye fathers and mothers, Ye husbands
- 19:37Speaker 1: and wives. Ye, fair ones, how is it that ye
- 19:42Speaker 1: could have fallen? But behold, ye are gone, And my
- 19:47Speaker 1: sorrows cannot bring your return. And the day soon cometh
- 19:52Speaker 1: that your mortal must put on immortality. And these bodies,
- 19:58Speaker 1: which are now moldering in corruption, must soon become incorruptible bodies.
- 20:05Speaker 1: And then ye must stand before the judgment seed of Christ,
- 20:11Speaker 1: to be judged according to your works. And if it
- 20:14Speaker 1: so be that ye are righteous, then are ye blessed
- 20:19Speaker 1: with your fathers who have gone before you. Oh that
- 20:23Speaker 1: ye had repented before this great destruction had come upon you.
- 20:27Speaker 1: But behold, ye are gone. And the Father, YEA, the
- 20:32Speaker 1: eternal Father of Heaven, knoweth your state, and he doeth
- 20:37Speaker 1: with you according to his justice and mercy Mormon chapter seven.
- 20:44Speaker 1: And now behold, I would speak somewhat unto the remnant
- 20:49Speaker 1: of this people who are spared, if it so be
- 20:53Speaker 1: that God may give unto them my words, that they
- 20:56Speaker 1: may know of the things of their fathers. Yea I
- 21:00Speaker 1: speak unto you, ye remnant of the House of Israel,
- 21:05Speaker 1: And these are the words which I speak. Know ye
- 21:10Speaker 1: that ye are of the House of Israel. Know ye
- 21:15Speaker 1: that ye must come unto repentance, or ye cannot be saved.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Know ye that ye must lay down your weapons of war,
- 21:25Speaker 1: and delight no more in the shedding of blood, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: take them not again, save it be that God shall
- 21:33Speaker 1: command you. Know ye that ye must come to the
- 21:37Speaker 1: knowledge of your fathers, and repent of all your sins
- 21:41Speaker 1: and iniquities. And believe in Jesus Christ, that he is
- 21:46Speaker 1: the son of God, and that he was slain by
- 21:50Speaker 1: the Jews, and by the power of the Father. He
- 21:54Speaker 1: hath risen again, whereby he hath gained the victory over
- 21:59Speaker 1: the grave. And also in him is the sting of
- 22:03Speaker 1: death swallowed up. And he bringeth to pass the resurrection
- 22:09Speaker 1: of the dead, whereby man must be raised to stand
- 22:14Speaker 1: before his judgment seat. And he hath brought to pass
- 22:19Speaker 1: the redemption of the world, whereby he that is found
- 22:24Speaker 1: guiltless before him at the judgment day, hath it given
- 22:28Speaker 1: unto him to dwell in the presence of God in
- 22:32Speaker 1: his kingdom, to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above,
- 22:37Speaker 1: unto the Father and unto the Son, and unto the
- 22:41Speaker 1: Holy Ghost, which are one God, in a state of
- 22:46Speaker 1: happiness which hath no end. Therefore, repent and be baptized
- 22:53Speaker 1: in the name of Jesus, and lay hold upon the
- 22:57Speaker 1: Gospel of Christ, which shall be set by for you,
- 23:01Speaker 1: not only in this record, but also in the record
- 23:05Speaker 1: which shall come unto the Gentiles from the Jews, which
- 23:10Speaker 1: records shall come from the Gentiles unto you. For behold,
- 23:16Speaker 1: this is written for the intent that ye may believe that.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And if ye believe that, ye will believe this also.
- 23:25Speaker 1: And if you believe this, ye will know concerning your
- 23:28Speaker 1: father's and also the marvelous works which were wrought by
- 23:33Speaker 1: the power of God among them. And ye will also
- 23:37Speaker 1: know that ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Therefore ye are numbered among the people of the First Covenant.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And if it so be that ye believe in Christ
- 23:50Speaker 1: and are baptized first with water, then with fire and
- 23:55Speaker 1: with the Holy Ghost, following the example of our Savior,
- 23:59Speaker 1: according to that which he hath commanded us, it shall
- 24:04Speaker 1: be well with you in the day of judgment, Amen,
- 24:09Speaker 1: Mormon chapter eight. Behold, I Moronai, do finish the record
- 24:15Speaker 1: of my father Mormon. Behold, I have but few things
- 24:20Speaker 1: to write, which things I have been commanded by my father.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And now it came to pass that after the great
- 24:28Speaker 1: and tremendous battle at Kimora. Behold, the Nephites, who had
- 24:32Speaker 1: escaped into the country southward, were hunted by the Lamanites
- 24:37Speaker 1: until they were all destroyed, and my father also was
- 24:42Speaker 1: killed by them. And I even remain alone to write
- 24:47Speaker 1: the sad tale of the destruction of my people. But behold,
- 24:52Speaker 1: they are gone, and I fulfill the commandment of my father.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And whether they slay me I know not. Therefore I
- 25:03Speaker 1: will write and hide up the records in the earth,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and whither I go it mattereth not. Behold, my father
- 25:12Speaker 1: hath made this record, and he hath written the intent thereof,
- 25:16Speaker 1: And behold, I would write it also if I had
- 25:20Speaker 1: room upon the plates. But I have not, and or
- 25:24Speaker 1: I have none, for I am alone. My father hath
- 25:29Speaker 1: been slain in battle, and all my kinsfolk, and I
- 25:33Speaker 1: have not friends, nor whither to go. And how long
- 25:37Speaker 1: the Lord will suffer that I may live, I know not. Behold,
- 25:44Speaker 1: four hundred years have passed away since the coming of
- 25:48Speaker 1: our Lord and Savior. And behold, the Lamanites have hunted
- 25:53Speaker 1: my people, the Nephites, down from city to city and
- 25:58Speaker 1: from place to place, even until they are no more.
- 26:02Speaker 1: And great has been their fall. Yea, great and marvelous
- 26:07Speaker 1: is the destruction of my people, the Nephites. And behold
- 26:12Speaker 1: it is the hand of the Lord which hath done it.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And behold also the Lamanites are at war one with another,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and the whole face of this land is one continual
- 26:25Speaker 1: round of murder and bloodshed, and no one knoweth the
- 26:30Speaker 1: end of the war. And now behold, I say no
- 26:35Speaker 1: more concerning them, for there are none save it be
- 26:38Speaker 1: the Lamanites and robbers that do exist upon the face
- 26:42Speaker 1: of the land. And there are none that do know
- 26:46Speaker 1: the True God, save it be the disciples of Jesus,
- 26:50Speaker 1: who did tarry in the land until the wickedness of
- 26:54Speaker 1: the people was so great that the Lord would not
- 26:58Speaker 1: suffer them to remain with the people, and whether they
- 27:02Speaker 1: be upon the face of the land, no man knoweth.
- 27:06Speaker 1: But behold, my father and I have seen them, and
- 27:10Speaker 1: they have ministered unto us. And whoso receiveth this record
- 27:16Speaker 1: and shall not condemn it because of the imperfections which
- 27:20Speaker 1: are in it, the same shall know of greater things
- 27:23Speaker 1: than these. Behold, I am Moronai, and were it possible,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I would make all things known unto you. Behold, I
- 27:34Speaker 1: make an end of speaking concerning this people. I am
- 27:38Speaker 1: the son of Mormon, and my father was a descendant
- 27:42Speaker 1: of Nephi. And I am the same who hideth up
- 27:46Speaker 1: this record unto the Lord. The plates thereof are of
- 27:50Speaker 1: no worth because of the commandment of the Lord, for
- 27:54Speaker 1: he truly saith that no one shall have them to
- 27:58Speaker 1: get gain. But the record thereof is of great worth.
- 28:02Speaker 1: And whoso shall bring it to light him will the
- 28:06Speaker 1: Lord bless for none can have power to bring it
- 28:10Speaker 1: to light, save it be given him of God. For
- 28:13Speaker 1: God gives that it shall be done with an eye
- 28:17Speaker 1: single to His glory or the welfare of the ancient
- 28:21Speaker 1: and long dispersed covenant people of the Lord. And blessed
- 28:27Speaker 1: be he that shall bring this thing to light. For
- 28:30Speaker 1: it shall be brought out of darkness unto light, according
- 28:35Speaker 1: to the word of God. Yeay, it shall be brought
- 28:39Speaker 1: out of the earth, and it shall shine forth out
- 28:42Speaker 1: of darkness and come unto the knowledge of the people.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And it shall be done by the power of God.
- 28:51Speaker 1: And if there be faults, they be the faults of
- 28:54Speaker 1: a man. But behold, we know no fault. Nevertheless, God,
- 29:00Speaker 1: God knoweth all things. Therefore, he that condemneth, let him
- 29:05Speaker 1: be aware, lest he shall be in danger of hell fire.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And he that saith show unto me, or ye shall
- 29:13Speaker 1: be smitten. Let him beware, lest he commandeth that which
- 29:18Speaker 1: is forbidden of the Lord. For behold, the same that
- 29:22Speaker 1: judgeth rashly shall be judged rashly again. For according to
- 29:27Speaker 1: his works shall his wages be. Therefore, he that smiteth
- 29:33Speaker 1: shall be smitten again of the Lord. Behold what the
- 29:38Speaker 1: scripture says, men shall not smite, neither shall he judge.
- 29:44Speaker 1: For judgment is mine, saith the Lord. And vengeance is
- 29:48Speaker 1: mine also. And I will repay. And he that shall
- 29:53Speaker 1: breathe out wrath and strifes against the work of the
- 29:57Speaker 1: Lord and against the covenant people the Lord, who are
- 30:01Speaker 1: the House of Israel, and shall say, we will destroy
- 30:05Speaker 1: the work of the Lord. And the Lord will not
- 30:08Speaker 1: remember his covenant which he hath made unto the House
- 30:12Speaker 1: of Israel. The same is in danger to be hewn
- 30:16Speaker 1: down and cast into the fire. For the eternal purposes
- 30:22Speaker 1: of the Lord shall roll on until all his promises
- 30:27Speaker 1: shall be fulfilled. Search the prophecies of Isaiah. Behold, I
- 30:34Speaker 1: cannot write them. Yea. Behold, I say unto you that
- 30:39Speaker 1: those saints who have gone before me, who have possessed
- 30:43Speaker 1: this land, shall cry. Yea, even from the dust will
- 30:48Speaker 1: they cry unto the Lord. And as the Lord liveth,
- 30:52Speaker 1: he will remember the covenant which he hath made with them.
- 30:57Speaker 1: And he knoweth their prayers, that they were in behalf
- 31:01Speaker 1: of their brethren, and he knoweth their faith. For in
- 31:05Speaker 1: his name could they remove mountains, And in his name
- 31:09Speaker 1: could they cause the earth to shake. And by the
- 31:12Speaker 1: power of His word did they cause prisons to tumble
- 31:16Speaker 1: to the earth. Yea, even as the fiery furnace could
- 31:20Speaker 1: not harm them, neither wild beasts nor poisonous serpents, because
- 31:26Speaker 1: of the power of His word. And behold, their prayers
- 31:31Speaker 1: were also in behalf of Him. That the Lord should
- 31:35Speaker 1: suffer to bring these things forth, And no one need
- 31:39Speaker 1: say they shall not come, for they surely shall, for
- 31:44Speaker 1: the Lord hath spoken it. For out of the earth
- 31:48Speaker 1: shall they come, by the hand of the Lord. And
- 31:52Speaker 1: none can stay it. And it shall come in a
- 31:55Speaker 1: day when it shall be said that miracles are done away.
- 32:00Speaker 1: And it shall come even as if one should speak
- 32:04Speaker 1: from the dead. And it shall come in a day
- 32:07Speaker 1: when the blood of saints shall cry unto the Lord
- 32:11Speaker 1: because of the secret combinations and the works of darkness. Yay,
- 32:18Speaker 1: it shall come in a day when the power of
- 32:21Speaker 1: God shall be denied, and churches become defiled and be
- 32:26Speaker 1: lifted up in the pride of their hearts. Yay, even
- 32:31Speaker 1: in a day when leaders of churches and teachers shall
- 32:35Speaker 1: rise in the pride of their hearts, even to the
- 32:39Speaker 1: envying of them who belong to their churches. Yay. It
- 32:44Speaker 1: shall come in a day when there shall be heard
- 32:47Speaker 1: of fires and tempests and vapors of smoke in foreign lands,
- 32:54Speaker 1: and there shall also be heard of wars, rumors of wars,
- 32:58Speaker 1: and earthquakes in diverse places. Yay, it shall come in
- 33:03Speaker 1: a day when there shall be great pollutions upon the
- 33:07Speaker 1: face of the earth. There shall be murders and robbing,
- 33:11Speaker 1: and lying, and deceivings, and horedoms, and all manner of abominations.
- 33:18Speaker 1: When there shall be many who will say, do this
- 33:22Speaker 1: or do that, And it mattereth not, for the Lord
- 33:25Speaker 1: will uphold such at the last day. But woe unto such,
- 33:30Speaker 1: for they are in the gall of bitterness and in
- 33:34Speaker 1: the bonds of iniquity. Yea, it shall come in a
- 33:39Speaker 1: day when there shall be churches built up that shall say,
- 33:43Speaker 1: come unto me, and for your money, you shall be
- 33:47Speaker 1: forgiven of your sins. Oh, ye wicked and perverse and
- 33:53Speaker 1: stiff necked people. Why have ye built up churches unto
- 33:58Speaker 1: your cells to get gain? Why have ye transfigured the
- 34:02Speaker 1: Holy Word of God? That ye might bring damnation upon
- 34:06Speaker 1: your souls. Behold, look ye unto the revelations of God.
- 34:11Speaker 1: For behold, the time cometh at that day when all
- 34:15Speaker 1: these things must be fulfilled. Behold, the Lord hath shown
- 34:21Speaker 1: unto me great and marvelous things concerning that which must
- 34:26Speaker 1: shortly come. At that day when these things shall come
- 34:31Speaker 1: forth among you. Behold, I speak unto you as if
- 34:36Speaker 1: ye were present, and yet ye are not. But Behold,
- 34:41Speaker 1: Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know
- 34:45Speaker 1: your doing, and I know that ye do walk in
- 34:49Speaker 1: the pride of your hearts. And there are none save
- 34:52Speaker 1: a few only, who do not lift themselves up in
- 34:56Speaker 1: the pride of their hearts. Unto the wearing of ye
- 35:00Speaker 1: fine apparel, unto envying and strifes, and malice and persecutions,
- 35:07Speaker 1: and all manner of iniquities. And your churches, yea, even
- 35:12Speaker 1: everyone have become polluted because of the pride of your hearts.
- 35:17Speaker 1: For behold, ye do love money and your substance, and
- 35:23Speaker 1: your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more
- 35:27Speaker 1: than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick
- 35:31Speaker 1: and the afflicted. Oh, ye pollutions, ye hypocrites, ye teachers,
- 35:38Speaker 1: who sell yourselves for that which will canker. Why have
- 35:42Speaker 1: ye polluted the Holy Church of God? Why are ye
- 35:47Speaker 1: ashamed to take upon you the name of Christ? Why
- 35:51Speaker 1: do ye not think that greater is the value of
- 35:55Speaker 1: an endless happiness than that misery which never die because
- 36:01Speaker 1: of the praise of the world. Why do ye adorn
- 36:04Speaker 1: yourselves with that which hath no life, and yet suffer
- 36:09Speaker 1: the hungry and the needy, and the naked, and the
- 36:13Speaker 1: sick and the afflicted, to pass by you and notice
- 36:18Speaker 1: them not, yea, why do ye build up your secret
- 36:22Speaker 1: abominations to get gain and cause that widows should mourn
- 36:28Speaker 1: before the Lord, and also orphans to mourn before the Lord,
- 36:33Speaker 1: and also the blood of their fathers and their husbands
- 36:36Speaker 1: to cry unto the Lord from the ground for vengeance
- 36:41Speaker 1: upon your heads. Behold, the sword of vengeance hangeth over you.
- 36:47Speaker 1: And the time soon cometh that he avengeth the blood
- 36:51Speaker 1: of the saints upon you, for he will not suffer
- 36:54Speaker 1: their cries any longer. Mormon, chapter nine. And now I
- 37:01Speaker 1: speak also concerning those who do not believe in Christ. Behold,
- 37:06Speaker 1: will ye believe in the day of your visitation? Behold
- 37:11Speaker 1: when the Lord shall come? Yea, even that great day
- 37:15Speaker 1: when the earth shall be rolled together as a scroll,
- 37:19Speaker 1: and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. YEA. In
- 37:23Speaker 1: that great day, when ye shall be brought to stand
- 37:27Speaker 1: before the lamb of God. Then will ye say that
- 37:31Speaker 1: there is no God? Then will ye longer deny the Christ?
- 37:36Speaker 1: Or can ye behold the Lamb of God? Do ye
- 37:40Speaker 1: suppose that ye shall dwell with Him under a consciousness
- 37:44Speaker 1: of your guilt. Do ye suppose that ye could be
- 37:48Speaker 1: happy to dwell with that Holy being when your souls
- 37:52Speaker 1: are racked with a consciousness of guilt that ye have
- 37:55Speaker 1: ever abused His laws. Behold, I say unto you that
- 38:01Speaker 1: ye would be more miserable to dwell with a holy
- 38:04Speaker 1: and just God under a consciousness of your filthiness before Him,
- 38:10Speaker 1: than ye would to dwell with the damned souls in hell.
- 38:15Speaker 1: For behold, when ye shall be brought to see your
- 38:18Speaker 1: nakedness before God and also the glory of God and
- 38:23Speaker 1: the holiness of Jesus Christ, it will kindle a flame
- 38:27Speaker 1: of unquenchable fire upon you. Oh, then ye unbelieving, turn
- 38:33Speaker 1: ye unto the Lord, cry mightily unto the Father in
- 38:38Speaker 1: the name of Jesus, that perhaps ye may be found spotless, pure,
- 38:44Speaker 1: fair and white, having been cleansed by the blood of
- 38:48Speaker 1: the Lamb at that great and last day. And again
- 38:53Speaker 1: I speak unto you who deny the revelations of God
- 38:58Speaker 1: and say that they are done away, that there are
- 39:01Speaker 1: no revelations, nor prophecies, nor gifts, nor healing, nor speaking
- 39:07Speaker 1: with tongues and the interpretation of tongues. Behold, I say
- 39:12Speaker 1: unto you, he that denieth these things knoweth not the
- 39:17Speaker 1: Gospel of Christ. Yea, he has not read the scriptures.
- 39:22Speaker 1: If so, he does not understand them. For do we
- 39:26Speaker 1: not read that God is the same yesterday, today and forever,
- 39:32Speaker 1: and in him there is no variableness, neither shadow of changing.
- 39:37Speaker 1: And Now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a
- 39:41Speaker 1: God who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow
- 39:45Speaker 1: of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a
- 39:50Speaker 1: God who is not God of miracles. But behold, I
- 39:55Speaker 1: will show unto you a god of miracles, even the
- 39:59Speaker 1: God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the
- 40:03Speaker 1: God of Jacob. And it is that same God who
- 40:07Speaker 1: created the heavens and the earth and all things that
- 40:12Speaker 1: in them are. Behold, he created Adam, and by Adam
- 40:17Speaker 1: came the fall of man. And because of the fall
- 40:20Speaker 1: of man came Jesus Christ, even the Father and the Son.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And because of Jesus Christ came the redemption of man.
- 40:30Speaker 1: And because of the redemption of man which came by
- 40:34Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, they are brought back into the presence of
- 40:38Speaker 1: the Lord. Yea, this is wherein all men are redeemed,
- 40:43Speaker 1: because the death of Christ bringeth to pass the resurrection,
- 40:49Speaker 1: which bringeth to pass, a redemption from an endless sleep,
- 40:54Speaker 1: from which sleep all men shall be awakened by the
- 40:57Speaker 1: power of God. When the trumph shall sound, and they
- 41:01Speaker 1: shall come forth, both small and great, and all shall
- 41:06Speaker 1: stand before His bar, being redeemed and loose from this
- 41:11Speaker 1: eternal band of death, which death is a temporal death.
- 41:16Speaker 1: And then cometh the judgment of the Holy One upon them.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And then cometh the time that he that is filthy
- 41:24Speaker 1: shall be filthy still, and he that is righteous shall
- 41:28Speaker 1: be righteous still. He that is happy shall be happy still,
- 41:33Speaker 1: and he that is unhappy shall be unhappy still. And now, oh,
- 41:39Speaker 1: all ye that have imagined up unto yourselves a God
- 41:43Speaker 1: who can do no miracles, I would ask of you,
- 41:47Speaker 1: have all these things passed of which I have spoken?
- 41:51Speaker 1: Has the end come yet? Behold? I say unto you, nay.
- 41:56Speaker 1: And God has not ceased to be a god of miracle. Behold,
- 42:01Speaker 1: are not the things that God hath wrought marvelous in
- 42:05Speaker 1: our eyes? Yea? And who can comprehend the marvelous works
- 42:09Speaker 1: of God? Who shall say that it was not a
- 42:13Speaker 1: miracle that by his word the heaven and the earth
- 42:17Speaker 1: should be. And by the power of his word man
- 42:20Speaker 1: was created of the dust of the earth. And by
- 42:24Speaker 1: the power of his word have miracles been wrought? And
- 42:28Speaker 1: who shall say that Jesus Christ did not many mighty miracles?
- 42:33Speaker 1: And there were many mighty miracles wrought by the hands
- 42:37Speaker 1: of the apostles. And if there were miracles wrought, then
- 42:41Speaker 1: why has God ceased to be a god of miracles
- 42:45Speaker 1: and yet be an unchangeable being? And behold, I say
- 42:50Speaker 1: unto you, he changeth not, if so he would cease
- 42:54Speaker 1: to be God. And he ceaseth not to be God,
- 42:58Speaker 1: and is a God of miracles. And the reason why
- 43:02Speaker 1: he ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men
- 43:06Speaker 1: is because that they dwindle in unbelief and depart from
- 43:11Speaker 1: the right way, and know not the God in whom
- 43:15Speaker 1: they should trust. Behold, I say unto you that whoso
- 43:20Speaker 1: believeth in Christ, doubting nothing whatsoever, he shall ask the
- 43:25Speaker 1: Father in the name of Christ, it shall be granted him.
- 43:30Speaker 1: And this promise is unto all, even unto the ends
- 43:35Speaker 1: of the earth. For behold, thus said Jesus Christ, the
- 43:40Speaker 1: Son of God, unto his disciples, who should tarry yea
- 43:45Speaker 1: and also to all his disciples in the hearing of
- 43:49Speaker 1: the multitude. Go ye into all the world, and preach
- 43:53Speaker 1: the Gospel to every creature. And he that believeth and
- 43:59Speaker 1: is baptized shall be saved. But he that believeth not
- 44:04Speaker 1: shall be damned. And these signs shall follow. Them that
- 44:09Speaker 1: believe in my name. Shall they cast out devils, They
- 44:13Speaker 1: shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents,
- 44:17Speaker 1: and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not
- 44:21Speaker 1: hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and
- 44:24Speaker 1: they shall recover. And whosoever shall believe in my name,
- 44:29Speaker 1: doubting nothing unto him, will I confirm all my words,
- 44:34Speaker 1: even unto the ends of the earth. And now behold,
- 44:39Speaker 1: who can stand against the works of the Lord, Who
- 44:44Speaker 1: can deny his sayings, Who will rise up against the
- 44:49Speaker 1: almighty power of the Lord, Who will despise the works
- 44:54Speaker 1: of the Lord, who will despise the children of Christ.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Behold all ye, ye who are despisers of the works
- 45:02Speaker 1: of the Lord, For ye shall wonder and perish. Oh,
- 45:07Speaker 1: then despise not and wonder not. But hearken unto the
- 45:12Speaker 1: words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the
- 45:15Speaker 1: name of Jesus, for what things soever ye shall stand
- 45:20Speaker 1: in need. Doubt not, but be believing, and begin as
- 45:25Speaker 1: in times of old, and come unto the Lord with
- 45:29Speaker 1: all your heart, and work out your own salvation with
- 45:34Speaker 1: fear and trembling before him. Be wise in the days
- 45:39Speaker 1: of your probation, strip yourselves of all uncleanness. Ask not
- 45:45Speaker 1: that ye may consume it on your lusts, but ask
- 45:49Speaker 1: with a firmness, unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation,
- 45:54Speaker 1: but that ye will serve the True and Living God.
- 45:58Speaker 1: See that ye are not baptized unworthily, See that ye
- 46:03Speaker 1: partake not of the sacrament of Christ unworthily. But see
- 46:08Speaker 1: that ye do all things in worthiness, and do it
- 46:12Speaker 1: in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the
- 46:16Speaker 1: Living God. And if ye do this and endure to
- 46:20Speaker 1: the end, ye will in no wise be cast out. Behold,
- 46:25Speaker 1: I speak unto you as though I spake from the dead,
- 46:29Speaker 1: For I know that ye shall have my words. Condemn
- 46:32Speaker 1: me not because of mine imperfection, neither my Father because
- 46:37Speaker 1: of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him.
- 46:42Speaker 1: But rather give thanks unto God that he hath made
- 46:46Speaker 1: manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to
- 46:51Speaker 1: be more wise than we have been. And now behold,
- 46:55Speaker 1: we have written this record according to our knowledge, in
- 46:59Speaker 1: the characters which are called among us the Reformed Egyptian
- 47:04Speaker 1: being handed down and altered by us according to our
- 47:09Speaker 1: manner of speech. And if our plates had been sufficiently large,
- 47:13Speaker 1: we should have written in Hebrew. But the Hebrew hath
- 47:17Speaker 1: been altered by us also. And if we could have
- 47:20Speaker 1: written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection
- 47:24Speaker 1: in our record. But the Lord knoweth the things which
- 47:28Speaker 1: we have written, and also that none other people knoweth
- 47:32Speaker 1: our language. And because that none other people knoweth our language,
- 47:37Speaker 1: therefore he hath prepared means for the interpretation thereof. And
- 47:43Speaker 1: these things are written that we may rid our garments
- 47:47Speaker 1: of the blood of our brethren who have dwindled in unbelief.
- 47:51Speaker 1: And behold, these things which we have desired concerning our brethren, yea,
- 47:57Speaker 1: even their restoration to the nulge of Christ, are according
- 48:02Speaker 1: to the prayers of all the saints who have dwelt
- 48:05Speaker 1: in the land. And may the Lord Jesus Christ grant
- 48:10Speaker 1: that their prayers may be answered according to their faith.
- 48:14Speaker 1: And may God the Father remember the covenant which he
- 48:18Speaker 1: hath made with the House of Israel, and may He
- 48:21Speaker 1: bless them forever through faith on the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
- 48:28Speaker 1: End of Mormon, chapter four, up to the Book of Ether.
