- 0:003 lifelong friends, 6 trusty balls and endless NFL takes.
- 0:05Welcome to three guys 6 balls NFL podcast Welcome to episode
- 0:0832 of three guys 6 balls NFL podcast.
- 0:11Your favorite podcast about the NFL and balls will.
- 0:16Last week we asked Avery how he was doing.
- 0:18How are you doing today? Just overall.
- 0:22Yeah. How you doing?
- 0:23I mean, I'm doing pretty good. I think things are going well.
- 0:26I think you know, life be life and but the Rams be winning.
- 0:33Yeah, I was going to say how you feeling about your Rams?
- 0:36Man, first half not great. second-half better.
- 0:40The problem is, is had the Ravens realize they and kind of
- 0:44pulling the curtain back here, had the Ravens realize they had
- 0:46Tyler Hunt and team the whole time, they probably win that
- 0:50game, but thank goodness they didn't.
- 0:52But it wins a win, so that's what matters.
- 0:54When's a win? All right.
- 0:57Well, we have got some good stuff for you guys today.
- 1:00We've got a topic that I'm pretty excited to talk about.
- 1:02I think it's going to be pretty interesting.
- 1:04But will, you're going to go ahead and get us started with
- 1:06your Week 6 recap here. So go ahead.
- 1:10Week 6 recap. Here we go.
- 1:12Giants at or excuse me, he was at Giants at Brian Dayball and
- 1:15his two sons sticking to the Champs.
- 1:18With two losses in the row, I'm sure the remains of the city of
- 1:21Philly are being touched, pushed into a Cliff.
- 1:23Also, four toast pushes in a row is just not good football.
- 1:27You're only doing that because you don't trust your running
- 1:29back to run anymore or your quarterbacks start the ball.
- 1:32Let's get let's get some better people in there to do that.
- 1:35Broncos, Jets in London. It was a good thing this game
- 1:37was so early in the morning when nobody had to feel bad about not
- 1:41watching because that was not a good game.
- 1:44Broncos fans, you may have won, but are you guys doing OK?
- 1:47Because it is not pretty over there.
- 1:49Seahawks at Jaguars Joe Rose used up all the good luck last
- 1:53week to beat the Chiefs and then went ahead and made sure their
- 1:55number one defense made Sam Darn look like an all pro even
- 1:59grandfather time. Cooper Cup got got the action
- 2:02last week getting his first touchdown as a Seahawk.
- 2:04Chargers at Dolphins This is a game the Chargers usually
- 2:08usually lose, and they tried really hard to lose it, being up
- 2:1213 points with 12 minutes left in the game.
- 2:14They still needed a last second field goal to end up winning.
- 2:16So this is one. Hey, you know what, the times
- 2:19are changing for the charge. Chargers they usually lose that
- 2:21one, but ended up winning. Brown Steelers This game was
- 2:24exactly what it should have been, AFC North physical
- 2:27football where the Browns just can't score a touchdown and we
- 2:30have Cowboys at Panthers. Listen, you're the Dallas
- 2:35Cowboys, you're going to face the absolute buzz side.
- 2:37It is the Carolina Panthers. The Carolina Rico Dowgals stuck
- 2:40it to him and and Dow indeed, the Dolphins left from last week
- 2:44are starting a support group that will now include Dallas.
- 2:46His teams got physically assaulted by Rico Dowgul and we
- 2:49have the Rams, Ravens, the Ravens for again, sorry for
- 2:53saying this twice now. The Ravens forgot they had Lamar
- 2:54Jackson light on their team in the way of Tyler Huntley, who in
- 2:58one quarter did just as well as Cooper rush to the entire three
- 3:01or the other 3. Not great to see who could get
- 3:03hurt, but hey, we still got to win.
- 3:05That's how it matters. Pat's at Saint booty booty booty
- 3:08booty rocking all the May Bills fans.
- 3:11You guys doing OK? The Pats are good again,
- 3:14Cardinals at Colts. Cardinals offense looked good
- 3:16and all it took was Kyla Murray to not play.
- 3:18Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the lost franchise are in first
- 3:21place in the AFC. How about that?
- 3:24Sitting with the first first round bye right now.
- 3:27Titans out. Raiders.
- 3:28Titans are so bad they fired their head coach, but in reality
- 3:32he isn't the one dropping passes or not playing defense, so who's
- 3:34really to blame? Bang was at Packers.
- 3:37As fun as it would have been for Joe Flack, who to beat the
- 3:39Packers twice with two different teams wasn't quite in the cards.
- 3:43And their last three games the Packers have lost and then tied
- 3:46and then won all three outcomes. Congratulations, you did it.
- 3:50And we had Niners at Bucks in the games, in the game of the
- 3:53backups. The Bucks for their offense is
- 3:56deeper. Baker is an animal and he's
- 3:58going to make that team win. And so, so long as Baker's on
- 4:01the field, that team's going to keep winning.
- 4:03And then we had Lions and Chiefs.
- 4:04Can we do all of America a favor and keep the Chiefs off of
- 4:07Sunday Night Football? I'm so tired of hearing Chris
- 4:10Collinsworth kiss the hindcourt. It is.
- 4:14It is unbelievable. How much did you see that?
- 4:18Real quick, did you see that clip of him when he's like how
- 4:21he like rushes for like 8 yards and then gets clobbered?
- 4:25And it's like, how many quarterbacks do this?
- 4:27And like all of them Were you around yesterday?
- 4:32Like, dude, it was like all over everywhere.
- 4:35ESPN, social media. I'm like, he did.
- 4:37It wasn't even better than this. It was earlier in the same day.
- 4:41It was three hours earlier. Oh yeah, it was the same day
- 4:43the. Same day when Baker broke that
- 4:45tackle like 4 tackles in a row, spun out and three.
- 4:48Yeah, it was it was he he ran for the first count.
- 4:51Crazy. I just.
- 4:52I'm just blown away that he keeps talking him up considering
- 4:55that's been a running joke for like 3 or 4 years.
- 4:58Now I know. Yeah, it's it's ridiculous.
- 5:02The Chiefs are good, but the and Lions are also good, but not
- 5:05quite as good. We were the Bills, Falcons,
- 5:07Bills fans losing two in a row. Are you guys OK?
- 5:10I don't really know what to make of this game.
- 5:12Atlanta just came to play in prime time.
- 5:14I I don't even, I don't even know what to say about it.
- 5:18And we got Bears at commanders wrapping up the week, doing a
- 5:20good job to make sure the Giants are the only NFC East team to
- 5:23win this week with the inability to tackle anyone from the Bears.
- 5:27Also another last second field goal to close out the week to
- 5:31win the football game. Anyway, that was week 6
- 5:34throwback to you. All right, I love these weekly
- 5:38recaps. I think they're pretty funny.
- 5:39I don't know how you come up with this stuff, but I I really
- 5:41like them. So I do have a question that we
- 5:44didn't plan on talking about, but I do have a question for you
- 5:46guys and it this has to do with Baker Mayfield and Patrick
- 5:50Mahomes. So I keep seeing today that
- 5:53Patrick Mahomes is a new favorite for MVP.
- 5:56Why on earth is Patrick Mahomes the favorite for MVP?
- 5:59Says who? He is the betting favorite for
- 6:02MVP right now. Yeah, he.
- 6:04Is, excuse me, odds on favorite right now.
- 6:06The reason is because of history and the team if Baker and
- 6:11Patrick Baker Mahomes. What if Baker Mayfield and
- 6:13Patrick Mahomes have equal stats at the end of the year?
- 6:17They're going to give it to Mahomes anyway.
- 6:19Which is retarded. They won't give it to Baker.
- 6:23I would be basically. Have identical stats right now.
- 6:26But here's the thing, why would they give it to Josh Allen if he
- 6:28had worse stats than Lamar Jackson last year, but then give
- 6:31it to Mahomes because he has better stats than Mayfield?
- 6:33Here's the thing. I don't think it's actually, I
- 6:35think that's just the favorite. I don't think anyone's arguing
- 6:37that Patrick Mahomes is going to win it.
- 6:39I just think if you're Vegas and you need to set a line, I think
- 6:42that Patrick Mahomes being the favorite and what, Week 6?
- 6:46So what are we at? I think that he would be like,
- 6:50that would be a safe assumption to make, like if you had Baker
- 6:54right now at top. I feel there's a lot of people
- 6:56like, hey, there's still a lot of football left to play.
- 6:59Like, what are the chances that Baker Mayfield is still the
- 7:02favorite after like 10 more weeks?
- 7:05And that's why I think like Patrick Mahomes with what Will
- 7:07said, like the history of it, and then just the fact that it's
- 7:10Patrick Mahomes and he's still on the Chiefs and they have not
- 7:12been dethroned. I mean, yeah.
- 7:14I mean, they haven't don't win it every year.
- 7:15But I mean, as far as the Vegas line, it makes sense for odds,
- 7:22but not to make a case that he right now would win or that he
- 7:25should win. Also, if if you think about the
- 7:29teams, we've got Chris Galvin out for who knows how long.
- 7:32We've got Mecca out for at least one more week, if not more.
- 7:35We've got Mike Evans out. We've got Bucky Irving out. 75%,
- 7:41if not more of the Buccaneers offense is just out right now,
- 7:45whereas the Chiefs is the opposite where they've got
- 7:47people coming back from suspension and back from injury.
- 7:50And so Mahomes's playmakers are coming back, where it's Baker's
- 7:54playmakers are dropping off like flies.
- 7:57But doesn't that help Baker's case though?
- 7:59Doesn't that help his case? If they put up the same amount
- 8:02of numbers, but it doesn't help his case to keep winning games,
- 8:06right? It is it.
- 8:07It gives us like higher risk, high, high reward kind of thing
- 8:09where it's like if you can do it, that gives you even more
- 8:12reason to win the MVP, but it's harder to do it.
- 8:15You're you're thinking about Most Valuable Player as actual
- 8:18team value. That is not what they judge Most
- 8:21Valuable Player off of. Because if so then then Joe
- 8:25Burrow should win it right now. He should be odds on favor to
- 8:29win MVP because without Joe Burrow on that team they are hot
- 8:33garbage. Well, they weren't much more
- 8:35than hot garbage when he was still there.
- 8:37This season that offense could move the ball a little bit and
- 8:41so the the value to the team doesn't matter.
- 8:45It should be just like Avery would.
- 8:47With earlier we were talking about Offensive Player of the
- 8:50year versus MVP. Those really should be the same
- 8:53award. There should not be a true MVP
- 8:55award. They should just be offensive
- 8:57player of the year, Defensive player of the year.
- 9:01Yeah, and I'm not trying to throw any disrespect or anything
- 9:04at Patrick Mahomes, like he's he's great, he's been great.
- 9:07But I'm just not a fan of giving the MVP award to somebody who's
- 9:10already won it, especially when they win it like multiple times,
- 9:14give it to somebody who hasn't won it before.
- 9:17That's why I like it. That's why I liked Josh Allen
- 9:20winning it last year over Lamar Jackson because Lamar had
- 9:22already won and Josh Allen had not won before.
- 9:25So I'm a fan of that. I just don't like it.
- 9:27And the same thing with like teams winning the Super Bowl 60
- 9:31times out of 60. It's like the Patriots, like you
- 9:33get annoyed because they're always there.
- 9:35Same thing with the Chiefs. That's why people don't like
- 9:37them because they've won so many Super Bowls.
- 9:39They've been to so many Super Bowls in a row.
- 9:41It's like, OK, this is getting a little bit old, Let's get
- 9:44something new in here. So that's why I don't like it.
- 9:47But that's what that's just. Yeah, it's not just because I
- 9:51actually that's part of it, but not the whole thing.
- 9:54I disagree to an extent. Like I would also I would agree
- 9:58with what you're saying that yeah, it gets a little old
- 10:00seeing it however I wanted. I want the award to go to the
- 10:05most qualified person. It's the same thing with like
- 10:08Jordan. If people in the 90s are saying
- 10:10Jordan's going to win again, OK. It's like, no, this is good.
- 10:13This is like dynasty building. This is what's giving like the
- 10:16NBA like more spotlight and more like basically just more money
- 10:21and more fans. It's like building this thing
- 10:23up. And especially with the Chiefs,
- 10:24like, I don't like the Chiefs winning, but like, you know, I'm
- 10:27like, hey, good. Like make them villains to the
- 10:30rest of the league, the same thing the Patriots were before.
- 10:32Like, I like that being there. However, I will say that, like,
- 10:36yeah, if it's just the dynastic teams that win every year, like
- 10:41it's like Lakers, Celtics, you know, Finals every year, it's
- 10:43like, OK, OK, for all the other fans of all the other teams,
- 10:47like we'd like at least something or at least reason to
- 10:49believe this isn't fixed. You know, So like, I see it as
- 10:53like, dude, if you did well enough to win the MVP, dude, you
- 10:57get it. Now I have my own beef and
- 11:00qualms with the MVP award as documented by this show, where
- 11:05it's like, OK, what is the criteria here?
- 11:07Like, why is there an effect? Why is there most valuable and
- 11:11offensive player? Like what's the different
- 11:12criteria? And everyone has a different
- 11:14definition for like, I don't like that.
- 11:15I feel like it is more subjective.
- 11:17And then at that point, it's really just who is the
- 11:19flashiest, most fun, notable player this year?
- 11:22Let's just give it to them. And it's like, that was a
- 11:24popularity award more than anything.
- 11:25It's like we talked about you the most on ESPN, so you get
- 11:29this award. That's basically kind of what it
- 11:30comes down to. I mean, unless you're being
- 11:32talked about for being trash or something.
- 11:35Right. And I agree with you, Avery,
- 11:36like I'm not saying just give it to somebody else because they
- 11:39haven't won it even though they don't deserve it.
- 11:42Like but right now, like I know you kind of looked at the long
- 11:45term outlook, but right now Patrick Mahomes does not deserve
- 11:48MVP over Baker Mayfield. Nope, right now, Right now he
- 11:52does not. Maybe if he continues.
- 11:56Go ahead, will. There you go.
- 11:57There you go. You go.
- 11:58I was just going to, if it was right now, both of you, who
- 12:02would you guys give it to? I would give it to it was right
- 12:05that season if it was, if it was right now, Baker.
- 12:08Right now, hold. On I can't.
- 12:11Get to that because The thing is for Will and I'll, I'll give him
- 12:14some time to, to, to look this up because all I'm looking for
- 12:16is one other name that you would put over Baker Mayfield, because
- 12:20that's really, I mean, that's kind of what it comes down to.
- 12:22If Joe's saying Baker, I want to know if there is.
- 12:28And then also is it MVP award or offense?
- 12:31I don't know. I mean, if we're going for for
- 12:33MVP, I'm giving it to Stafford right now.
- 12:35He's got 1600 yards, 12 touchdowns, 2 picks.
- 12:38Baker has 1500 passing yards. He's got he's got 150 less
- 12:42passing yards, same as touchdowns, 10 less attempts,
- 12:46right? He had one less interception.
- 12:49He does have half the he does have half the interception,
- 12:53sure. More dangerous players.
- 12:57More wins Best record in the league.
- 13:00The injury doesn't matter. I mean, the injury side of it
- 13:02doesn't really matter, right. And if we were going that route,
- 13:05then Daniel Jones is right there with him, although he doesn't
- 13:08have quite the touchdowns yet. But that's but I would set for
- 13:13record, that doesn't really matter either.
- 13:15Making the case for Baker and I'm sure Joel could do a much
- 13:18better job than me, I would say like, I mean the notable plays
- 13:22of just strong will where you look at it and like, OK, that's
- 13:26insane. Like, that's what every fan
- 13:28wants their quarterback to be able to do, you know, like third
- 13:31and 14. Like, dude, he's just going to
- 13:33will it. And that's something that like,
- 13:36you can tell like this is stuff that we're going to see again
- 13:38later when he accepts the, you know, the trophy, if he wins it,
- 13:41you know, at the end of the season, Like, look at all these
- 13:43plays he made for his team. And that's I think the biggest
- 13:46thing is like, dude was willing his team to victory despite the
- 13:50injuries and a point differential of like 1017.
- 13:56What is it? I think Joe can find that for
- 13:58me. Oh no, I have.
- 14:00AI can I can find it? Yeah, I don't know if. 14-2
- 14:02touchdowns point differential. They're five and one.
- 14:06All the injuries he got, he had Tez Johnson, the six string wide
- 14:12receiver, thinking that the MVP chance were for him.
- 14:16That's how good Baker is. He throws A touchdown and he got
- 14:19him thinking that's he's the MVP.
- 14:22That was the funniest video from the weekend for sure.
- 14:28I was, I was telling Joel, I'm like, dude, yeah, if you come in
- 14:32because all the other receivers are out and you make this insane
- 14:34play, do this insane flip and then from right, right out the
- 14:38end zone, you hear everyone chanting MVPI.
- 14:42Don't I don't blame him. I'm like, dude, that's your
- 14:44first touchdown, an insane touchdown.
- 14:47I'm like, I mean, yeah, think about it for 2 seconds and then
- 14:50you'll realize, yeah, that's for Baker, you know, but.
- 14:53Still, anyway, Avery, who would you give it to?
- 14:58Baker, I don't Based on right now, yeah.
- 15:03I will say a feather in his cap is that if Baker were to get
- 15:08hurt, heaven forbid nobody wants it to happen.
- 15:10Do you know who the backup is in Tampa?
- 15:13Teddy Bridgewater. Teddy Bridgewater.
- 15:15There is no way this team is anywhere near as good with Teddy
- 15:19Bridgewater. Nowhere near.
- 15:21I mean, it's almost like, it's almost like, what's that guy's
- 15:24name? And then Cincinnati, no, it's
- 15:28Cincinnati. It's like Burrough to Browning
- 15:31that that's the level of play I would expect to see.
- 15:34And not to Teddy Bridgewater is bad, but you're going from a
- 15:39plus caliber guy to not. And it's like, oh gosh, we had
- 15:44this All Star and now we just don't well.
- 15:49If Baker Mayfield gets hurt, I hope who can if you would dies.
- 15:53Oh, Oh no. Oh no.
- 16:00Jimmy Anyway, Jimmy G Oh, Stetson Bennett's on the ramps.
- 16:03Yes, I, I'm not, I knew it was Jimmy G I'm not a fan of it,
- 16:07although I would I think take Jimmy G over Petty Bridgewater.
- 16:13But it's it is like F and FA like you did the subset right
- 16:19there. There's nothing.
- 16:20Nothing really. One over the other.
- 16:24Yeah, just that, Jimmy, at least.
- 16:28Here's I I will say this, though, also to kind of well,
- 16:32this is kind of against Stafford, is that I mean, how
- 16:36many how many MVPS has Stafford won?
- 16:38How many offensive player of the years has Stafford won?
- 16:44Because that that's not even an obvious question.
- 16:46Dude's been in the league since O 9.
- 16:47So I. Don't know there's any.
- 16:49Zero. OK, how many times is he like
- 16:52leading the league in yards? Cuz it's often like in that
- 16:58entire the 16 years it he's always a prolific passer.
- 17:03So when I see that he right now he looks par for the course.
- 17:07I mean not I'd say above. Well, like better just because
- 17:10he's so much older now. He's 16 years in the league.
- 17:13And so like seeing those high numbers, like that's always
- 17:16Stafford. Stafford's always just slinging
- 17:18the ball. So when I see that, and now it
- 17:21might just be a little bit of kind of like maybe fatigue or a
- 17:23little bit just like I'm used to Stafford always like just
- 17:28throwing the ball out. Whether they win the game, who
- 17:31knows, you know, back when he was in Detroit.
- 17:34But when I see that, I'm like, that's just normal Stafford.
- 17:36I'm not going to give. I'm not thinking of giving him
- 17:38the award for like simply doing what he already does.
- 17:42Not to say that like your greatness is monotonous.
- 17:45And so we're not going to recognize it anymore.
- 17:47But if you don't have like if you don't even have a better
- 17:50record through six games than Baker, then it's like, all
- 17:53right, Well, then I that that alone would edge it out for me.
- 17:58However, going back to the Vegas odds, I do think I do think it's
- 18:04smart though to put Patrick Mahomes has the favorite if
- 18:08Baker. If Baker's not right behind,
- 18:10though, I think that would be exploitable by betters.
- 18:13OK, but like Patrick Mahomes is still like needed.
- 18:17Still Patrick Mahomes Rishi rise is coming back.
- 18:20Still the Chiefs like the Bucks still have to play through the
- 18:25rest of this gauntlet. Like I don't know.
- 18:28I still like Baker though over if I was a betting man, I would
- 18:31bet Baker. I'm going to say is, is if they
- 18:35continue at the same pace that they are right now, both of
- 18:37them, and Patrick Mahomes wins MVP, I'm going to be very
- 18:40pissed. I'll be super pissed.
- 18:44But anyway, since we're talking about Baker Mayfield, our first
- 18:47official topic of this podcast is going to be why are we seeing
- 18:51so many quarterbacks have success that we're given up on
- 18:55by other teams? So right now, strong.
- 18:59Opinion on this? But you said that.
- 19:02You said that. All right.
- 19:03So right now we've got, we've got a lot of quarterbacks that
- 19:06were given up on by other teams who are having a lot of success.
- 19:10We've got guys like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Daniel
- 19:13Jones, Mac Jones. We're seeing a lot of success
- 19:15from these guys. So what do you guys think?
- 19:18Why are we seeing success from these guys who were given up on
- 19:21by other teams? I think the extends for you.
- 19:23As you said, I think we have Aaron Rodgers in there as well.
- 19:26I think we saw last week Jacoby Brissett, who threw for 350
- 19:29yards there. There's a lot of guys and I
- 19:32think the big difference is, is that you draft a guy.
- 19:37Let's just take Daniel Jones as as a tiny microcosm of the whole
- 19:42thing. You Giants draft this guy,
- 19:44Daniel Jones, who they think can come into their system and make
- 19:48it work, and it doesn't, for whatever reason, that coach or
- 19:55whoever thinks that their system's better than molding as
- 19:58a quarterback. And so it's no, you're going to
- 20:00do it my way and this is the way it's going to be.
- 20:04And then the quarterback doesn't fit.
- 20:05For instance, when Lafleur came in with Aaron Rodgers.
- 20:10The Fleur wanted to run everything Lafleur's way and it
- 20:13didn't fit with Aaron Rodgers style of play.
- 20:15It just didn't work out. And so they bite their heads a
- 20:16lot and and we you hurt a lot because Aaron Rodgers is a
- 20:20pretty vocal guy about everything he's doing.
- 20:23And so it wasn't the way it wanted to be and it didn't work
- 20:26out. And so Aaron Rodgers and well,
- 20:28the Packers moved on from Rodgers and Jordan loves the guy
- 20:31who's like, OK, I'll just do it this way then.
- 20:33And it seems to be working OK for them.
- 20:35And same thing with with all these guys is that you get a a
- 20:39new coach in there who wants to run things his way and they pick
- 20:44whether they pick the quarterback or the GM picks the
- 20:46quarterback because they like them.
- 20:47It's a hey, I want you to run it my way.
- 20:50Where is when you're a veteran and you get to pick your own
- 20:53team like Daniel Jones, technically, you have to pick
- 20:56the Colts. The Colts offered him.
- 20:57He could have gone somewhere else.
- 20:59He said, yeah, OK, I'll, I'll go here.
- 21:00I don't think he was trading that.
- 21:01You believe he signed there And it was a this is a style of
- 21:04offense we're going to run. Can you run that?
- 21:07They're given the option at that point.
- 21:09Is this something you can function for us?
- 21:11This is what we're looking at. And so as they get older in
- 21:14their career, one experience and two, they get to kind of pick
- 21:18and choose where they want to go, which any reason, obviously
- 21:21not everybody's offering people like Daniel Jones or Matt Jones
- 21:24even to come to their team. But I think that's why we saw
- 21:27Anthony Richardson now work out with that team.
- 21:29Now skill may be part of it there well.
- 21:31That's because he's made of glass.
- 21:34Yeah, that's where the skill comes in.
- 21:36Yeah, he's heard it again and he's in the backup.
- 21:37I don't quite understand this one, but it's it's it's they
- 21:41don't fit the system that the coach is forcing the new
- 21:45quarterback to run. Whereas when they get older and
- 21:47more experiencing NFL, they're able to run or pick a system
- 21:51that fits the style of quarterback they are.
- 21:54OK, so I like the example of Aaron Rodgers, but I think he's
- 21:57in a little bit of a different category than these guys because
- 21:59Aaron Rodgers had success and he won a Super Bowl.
- 22:03But these guys like Sam Darnold and Matt and Baker Mayfield,
- 22:07they were all considered busts. Aaron Rodgers was never terrible
- 22:12at The Jets. He was terrible.
- 22:13Now, not the one season where you got hurt the other season,
- 22:16but that's. After that's after he's already
- 22:19had success though and he's passed his prime.
- 22:22So these guys are in their prime like right now, but they were
- 22:25considering busts before they got to where they are.
- 22:28So I think he's in a little bit of a different category than
- 22:31these guys. I can agree with that.
- 22:33I mean, Baker had success before he moved on to the Rams and
- 22:38there was a few other teams in there and then eventually the
- 22:40Buccaneers he wanted, he won a playoff game with the Browns.
- 22:43People forget that. I mean, they can't because
- 22:44everybody keeps saying it out loud.
- 22:46But but the bright he didn't fit the Brown system to coach and
- 22:50then the GM were like, no, no, we're going to run our way.
- 22:52And then we see how that's going for him rather than just looking
- 22:55Baker be Baker. So I think it's a big a big part
- 23:00of it is the coach, slash GM, slash owner or whoever is ego
- 23:05getting in the way of have you drafted this guy to do a thing
- 23:09he wants to do? That's why I think the Bills
- 23:12have had so much success with Josh Allen and the Ravens have
- 23:16had so much success with Lamar Jackson because they drafted
- 23:18these guys and they what they Josh Allen.
- 23:21I don't know if you guys remember this, but he was an
- 23:23awful quarterback when he came in the league.
- 23:25He could throw the ball the entire length of the football
- 23:27field, but his completion percentage was abysmal his first
- 23:31two years. But they they said, OK, this is
- 23:34what you can do. So let's play with any
- 23:36parameters while we build your skills around you.
- 23:39Just like Lamar Jackson, he couldn't throw the ball very
- 23:42accurately. He couldn't do anything with
- 23:44throwing it, but he was good enough at other things.
- 23:47He had, let's develop your skill of throwing the football.
- 23:50And so they take the the quarterback and they build the
- 23:53system around them versus a, hey, you're going to run my
- 23:57system and my team and then they just fizzle out because it
- 24:00doesn't work. For the most part, I I do agree
- 24:04that I think that there's some pride and maybe inability to
- 24:09adapt with a lot of players and coaches.
- 24:12I think that all of these guys are professional football
- 24:15players. Coaches, not so much.
- 24:19I think that can be if there's anybody on a team, coaches or
- 24:23players that could be a fraud or not actually that good, I would
- 24:27be the coaches. The players have to go through a
- 24:30grueling lifetime of, of their life, you know, process to prove
- 24:35that they're, you know, good enough to be up there.
- 24:36They are constantly being tested.
- 24:38And some of these coaches and you get a lot of them that, you
- 24:41know, you were a player and then you got brought onto the staff,
- 24:44maybe because the, you know, the head coach liked you.
- 24:46You play there, maybe the team's already doing pretty good.
- 24:49You get put in a coordinator position, you guys win, you get
- 24:52offered a head coach position. Maybe the team's already doing
- 24:54well, so you look good and then you get hired someone else.
- 24:56You don't, you don't do well, you get hired, passed around
- 24:59again, you don't do well. And it's kind of like, dude,
- 25:01you're kind of at the mercy of just how the team is like what
- 25:04you've already got. You're not the GM, you're not
- 25:06building a team here. You're just taking the reins.
- 25:09And so I feel like having, seeing how much movement there
- 25:13is in the coaching carousel makes sense to me because I feel
- 25:16like you should probably just be trying to pair the best coach
- 25:20with the players that you have. And I feel like a lot of times,
- 25:23like these players, when you see Daniel Jones, you see Sam
- 25:25Darnold, I mean, Donald's playing, I mean, playing for The
- 25:29Jets and the Panthers, I mean, it's like, dude, the fact that
- 25:32he, you know, wasn't written off is a miracle, you know?
- 25:36So like even him, I mean, I think last year with the
- 25:39Vikings, I think that proves like, OK, this guy's a
- 25:42competent, capable quarterback, but like, are you going to do
- 25:45what's necessary to make him good?
- 25:48And I think that's like, I mean, I think about Baker Mayfield is
- 25:51like the main example here where it's like you brought him in
- 25:54there and it's like Kate Baker, like he was known as being this
- 25:57bombastic, just, you know, competitor and winner.
- 26:00And so he like finally gets brought into Tampa Bay and they
- 26:03basically just say, you know, just do your thing, dude.
- 26:04Like, we know your game. We know you're a winner.
- 26:07Like let's win. And so I think it's this thing
- 26:10we're like, yeah, you free him up a little bit.
- 26:12You, you get him out of his own head.
- 26:14You give him the keys to the, you know, the, the Kingdom here.
- 26:17And then it's just more of like, hey, they're all having a good
- 26:19time. Joe and I were talking recently
- 26:21about just like this team just feels like they're having a good
- 26:23time. Like everyone else is like
- 26:25playing for their job, for their work.
- 26:27And these guys are just out here like 5 and and it's just working
- 26:31for him. And I think most of the time it
- 26:33just comes down to like, hey, are you going to unlock these
- 26:35players to do what they need to do the same thing with like, you
- 26:38know, stats. You talk about A.J.
- 26:40Brown not getting his stats. And I think Ocho Cinco made a
- 26:43point where it's like, yeah, dude, this is what gets them
- 26:45paid. Like, yeah, you want to win
- 26:47games. Quarterbacks care about that a
- 26:49lot more. Coaches care about that a lot
- 26:50more like receivers. Dude, if you don't have the
- 26:52production, teams are going to say, why would I pay you this
- 26:54much if you're not even producing that much?
- 26:57And so for them it's more of like, it's completely a numbers
- 26:59game. You know, if you want to get
- 27:00paid, you got to, you know, produce.
- 27:02Otherwise, you know, people look back at the stats like, oh,
- 27:04geez, you're not that good. That being said, I think that it
- 27:08comes down to the situation. I think every quarterback that
- 27:11comes into the league, unless it's like some hype train thing,
- 27:15hype train thing like Tebow or maybe even Johnny Manziel, where
- 27:19it's like, OK, like you did well there before, but like in those,
- 27:23I mean, not T-bone necessarily, but in Manziel, it's like, hey,
- 27:26this is your issue now. If you're not going to figure
- 27:29this out, no coach is going to help you.
- 27:31So that's part of the intangibles and everything.
- 27:33But if you're not looking to unlock that player or you're too
- 27:37stubborn to switch up your scheme, like, yeah, then they're
- 27:40not going to do very well. And I think that's the issue.
- 27:42I think a lot of fans see these players as black and white where
- 27:46it's like, I mean, well, they are black and white, but
- 27:49literally, but I, I, I think it's like you're good or you're
- 27:52not good and it's all, it's like, dude, they are a
- 27:55professional football player. Of course they're good.
- 27:58Are they going to be put in a good position?
- 28:01Is A.J. Brown now bad?
- 28:03It's like, no, he's not bad, just hasn't been throwing the
- 28:05ball to. Maybe he's been covered.
- 28:07Maybe they have a different game plan.
- 28:08So I think a lot of this is like it's just a situational fit.
- 28:11So I think bringing on a quarterback that wasn't good
- 28:13before, it's like, hey, dude, he might still not be good.
- 28:16Hopefully the, you know, the coaches recognize we need to
- 28:18change something up. He didn't produce over there.
- 28:20So we definitely can't do what we did or what they did over
- 28:23there. So it's not really much of an
- 28:26answer, but it is very much a it's like there's a lot of
- 28:30moving pieces and I don't think anyone in the league is all good
- 28:34or all bad. OK.
- 28:37So follow up question and we kind of already talked about it,
- 28:40but does a quarterback make a franchise or does a franchise
- 28:43make the quarterback or is it both?
- 28:49I tell you both because let's take Tom Brady, right?
- 28:53You take you take a player who is exceptional and, and it's
- 28:58it's almost undeniable that Tom Brady was exceptional.
- 29:01He's retired now. We cannot get over our hate for
- 29:04him because he was better than our teams.
- 29:06He was exceptional. But you take a coach who also
- 29:10was exceptional in the NFL, maybe not so much at UNC.
- 29:13Sorry, Avery. I hate it.
- 29:16I hate it. You take a coach who was also
- 29:19exceptional and both player and coach demanded the highest out
- 29:23of every other player on that team.
- 29:25And so when you can get multiple people, put your, your head
- 29:29coach and your leader on your team to both buy into the same
- 29:35train, their thought train, you're just going to be
- 29:39incredible. And so I, I think it's both
- 29:42because you took Brady and he went to Tampa and it was the
- 29:46same thing. You had exceptional quarterback
- 29:49and coach that also demanded the highest possible.
- 29:54They, they saw eye to eye with their expectations and they,
- 29:57they won the Super Bowl. And so I, I think it's both
- 30:01because you can be a great coach, but have a terrible, a
- 30:06terrible team and you're not going to go anywhere, but you
- 30:10can also be a terrible coach. You have a great team, you're
- 30:12not going to go anywhere. So.
- 30:14Another thing that I was thinking about recently this
- 30:18week is how I think we've all worked in work environments
- 30:23where there's one or two people where you're like, if they
- 30:26weren't here, morale would go through the roof.
- 30:29Like, everyone would be so much happier.
- 30:31Like, you'd be excited to come into work almost.
- 30:34And I wonder what that's like in the NFL locker room or really, I
- 30:40mean, even college where it's like, OK, if we didn't have this
- 30:44one guy here, like what would change?
- 30:46Like, like, would we? Because I can see, because I've
- 30:49had that happen in the workplaces where like someone's
- 30:52gone. It's like, dude, I'm almost like
- 30:53more motivated now. I'm almost like happier to like
- 30:56speak my mind, get a little bit more creative, whatever it is.
- 30:59And I feel like that would be the same thing in some of these
- 31:02locker rooms where it's like, dude, if there's tension, I
- 31:05mean, I watch that Cowboys documentary and it just showing
- 31:07like, just what's his a command? And I think it's Switzer right
- 31:12where they were just butt your heads by the end.
- 31:13And it just shows that there's not winning a lot of games.
- 31:16Never really addressing it. You can't really talk about it
- 31:20to the press because it's a bad form.
- 31:22And so it's like, what do we do? Just sit in this?
- 31:25Like, does Aikman take that to Jerry?
- 31:27Does he just have to deal with it?
- 31:29And it's like how many people are in a position, how many
- 31:31organizations like that are almost held hostage by this,
- 31:34where this you just have this cancer, this thing you just
- 31:37can't get rid of, you can't shake off as soon as you guys
- 31:40like if you know if you're winning, you're winning,
- 31:42everyone's happy if you're winning.
- 31:43But like, you know, you lose 1 game and then you get all this
- 31:46back biting and all this like resentment and stuff.
- 31:48I was listening to Golden Tate on the Busting in the boys
- 31:52busting with the boys podcast and he's just like talking crap
- 31:56about everyone with this guy's of like, I don't know what, I
- 31:59don't know what the deal is like that we just butted heads.
- 32:01Like this is the 7th person you've talked about that you
- 32:03don't know why you butt heads with.
- 32:05I think you might be an issue here.
- 32:07But like talking all these crazy stories that happened behind the
- 32:10scenes that clearly like affect the rest of the team.
- 32:13Like they're thinking just talking about Percy Harvin.
- 32:15They're going like the Super Bowl and they like had a fist
- 32:18fight like the night before. And then they're right like the,
- 32:21you know, anyway, I I just see some of that and I'm like, hey,
- 32:24there's got to be a lot of things where it's like not even
- 32:26the amount of like the quarterback, but maybe the
- 32:28quarterback and the coach set the tone.
- 32:31And I would think like Andy Reid and Mahomes where it's like,
- 32:35Hey, there doesn't seem to be a lot of drama here.
- 32:37It seems to be like a set in stone thing where you've got a,
- 32:39you've got leaders here and then it's more of following them than
- 32:42rather just like, I don't know. Or is our coach going to be here
- 32:45next year? Are these players going to be
- 32:47here? I'm looking to get paid.
- 32:49Our team's not winning. I don't really care anymore, you
- 32:52know? That's just like it's bringing
- 32:53everyone down anyway. I'm talking a lot.
- 32:56Well, on that Mahomes, Andy Reid thing, there was a lot of drama
- 33:01there, though, but it was it wasn't Mahomes versus Andy Reid.
- 33:04It was Mahomes versus own family.
- 33:07Like we all saw the stories of Jackson dancing on the memorial
- 33:11and Brittany Brittany Mahomes spring champagne, all those fans
- 33:15that weren't in the box. And like there was just so much
- 33:18familial drama. And Lincoln's been on here a
- 33:20couple times. And I said it that my home and
- 33:23Patrick has done a wonderful job of keeping his family out of it.
- 33:28I was almost certain that that was the main that Taylor Swift
- 33:32was a bit of an insult by the Chiefs to get Brittany and
- 33:36Jackson to just shut the heck up.
- 33:38And he's like, hey, you 2 go away.
- 33:40Look, we have a new fancy to wait here.
- 33:42And so obviously maybe not now. Congrats to them getting
- 33:45married. I guess.
- 33:46Whatever, do what you want. Shout out would but but anyway,
- 33:53I, I just think, I, I think that there was a lot of drama that
- 33:58could have gotten even worse. Like if if Patrick had not done
- 34:00anything about it and just let Jackson and Brittany do whatever
- 34:05they wanted consistently, because then I bet there would
- 34:07have been a lot of Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes drama.
- 34:10But Holmes took the needs of the team over that of his family,
- 34:16trying to gain whatever they were trying to gain off of them.
- 34:18They're like, hey, this is my job here.
- 34:21I have to work here. And not everybody's like that.
- 34:24Some people put themselves over the team and it's it's like,
- 34:26well, I'm here to get mine rather than I'm here to to win.
- 34:30And we saw a lot with the Patriots.
- 34:33They were just there to win. One thing that's that I've kind
- 34:38of noticed is like with that, with the Mahomes, the, you know,
- 34:41whatever Jackson and his wife, I see that as like you, that was
- 34:45all outside noise. I don't imagine a lot of that
- 34:48like affected the locker room like at all.
- 34:50Maybe it's jokes, like see people seeing like the public
- 34:53reacting to some of this stuff. But like, I feel like the stuff
- 34:57that really affects the team is stuff that we would never know
- 35:00about until later when they go on a podcast and let everyone
- 35:03know. But that is something that's
- 35:05like, yeah, you got to get that like under control.
- 35:08And sometimes it is messier like that, where it's like, what if
- 35:11it's your brother and your wife that are causing problems and
- 35:13it's like, OK, you just got to step back.
- 35:16You know, if you guys want this lifestyle, step back, you know?
- 35:20So like, that's. Yeah.
- 35:21Anyway, I, I just, I just think there are those things where
- 35:23it's like we could try to look at a team, like I wonder what's
- 35:27going on in there. It's like, The thing is, we're
- 35:28not going to know. We're not going to know because
- 35:30it's going to have so much context and so many little like
- 35:33things like they're never going to talk about this in the press
- 35:35or in interviews would just be a bad luck.
- 35:38It'll make the, you know, team morale even worse.
- 35:44You need someone in there to like, go crack some skulls and
- 35:47just be like, all right, hey, bad vibes, you're off the team.
- 35:49Get out. I have executive authority from
- 35:53Rodger Goodell. You're out.
- 35:57All right. So one more question for you
- 35:59guys in this segment, then we'll move on to the next thing.
- 36:01So are there any quarterbacks in the league right now that you
- 36:04would consider a bust, who you think would do well on another
- 36:08team? I think Jimmy Garoppolo would do
- 36:11great on any other team that's not the Rams and they should
- 36:13bring a different backup. That's what I think, yeah.
- 36:19I mean, you could take the bad teams, right?
- 36:20Like Dylan Gabriel, could he do better somewhere else?
- 36:23Should door Sanders? Could he they're.
- 36:25Not. They're not considered busts,
- 36:28though. That's at.
- 36:29Least not yet, Not yet. But look at I mean, Baker's a
- 36:32bad example because he actually won in the Browns.
- 36:34I mean, Justin Fields, right? I think he's.
- 36:36That's what I was going to say. He's a bust that he seems to be
- 36:40a bust that didn't do well on the Bears.
- 36:42He's not doing well on The Jets, but I don't know if there is a
- 36:45different system that he could do well in.
- 36:47Maybe he could beat Tyler Marie. He he wasn't great, but he did
- 36:51fine in Pittsburgh. Yeah, I I forgot he was in
- 36:55Pittsburgh. I think kind of what Will was
- 36:58saying about Josh Allen, what was that, Joel?
- 37:01One of you 2 had to be 1 of you 2.
- 37:04If it's good, I'll take great. Yeah, yeah, it was good advice.
- 37:07It was good insight. I think, you know, I think it
- 37:12honestly, if you took Justin Fields, I didn't realize how
- 37:14insanely athletic that guy is. Duke could play receiver, Duke
- 37:18could play running back. I feel like if you had now, I
- 37:22don't know if it's worth it to change the scheme of your
- 37:26offense enough to like centered around him or it's more of maybe
- 37:30even a Wildcat thing or something where you're utilizing
- 37:33him a little different. Because The thing is, he's not
- 37:34throwing the ball that well. He's not even being protected,
- 37:38which is kind of discounting his athleticism.
- 37:41I think I heard somewhere that he was like sacked of like the
- 37:44nine times he was sacked. It was all like 4 seconds in.
- 37:48It was like, dude, get rid of the ball or.
- 37:51Like. What are you still doing there?
- 37:53And I wonder like 8. I doubt that's just a judgement
- 37:57thing. I'm sure it's like, you know,
- 37:59hey, if you were quarterback, you got put in your
- 38:01quarterbacks. Your coach is like, hey, do this
- 38:03thing. You're like, I don't know if
- 38:03that would work because they just do it and you're like, OK,
- 38:06so you're like doing your best. And then if it's not perfect,
- 38:08like you're getting sacked, you're getting destroyed, you're
- 38:11throwing picks. I just, I feel like he's just in
- 38:14a not great. I mean, he's at The Jets.
- 38:16That should just go without saying.
- 38:17I feel like just leaving The Jets would already make him
- 38:21three times better. I have a look at Sam Darnold and
- 38:24Aaron Rodgers. They left The Jets and they're
- 38:27doing way better this year. And you have got not now, but
- 38:32Geno Smith. He was with The Jets and he was
- 38:35with a few other teams before he before he was with the Seahawks,
- 38:38but when he was with The Jets, he was not good.
- 38:44And then Bryce Young would be a lot better.
- 38:46That's what I was going to ask you guys that next.
- 38:48I was going to ask what you. Guys did about Bryce Young, but
- 38:50where, where would you put Bryce Avery?
- 38:53Oh. If you could trade quarterback
- 38:55from quarterback right now. It would.
- 38:57I mean, I don't want to. Do this.
- 39:04He might do just about as good. I think it might be just as good
- 39:08if he's on The Jets. I think he's that good that he
- 39:11could be some part mediocre, part of it.
- 39:16Yeah, that's true. I think.
- 39:18I think if I think if Bryce Young, if Baker Mayfield went
- 39:23down and somehow Bryce Young was on that team, I think he'd do
- 39:27pretty well. I don't know if he would.
- 39:29I don't think he would be as good, but like, I think numbers
- 39:32wise, I think you would have the protection he needs and the and
- 39:35the threats, the weapons that he would, I think the weapons that
- 39:40he would have would help him put up some really good numbers.
- 39:43So I think most of the time, I mean, dude, you get sacked once
- 39:46it's in your head, you know, your line starts falling apart.
- 39:50You're not as confident making those throws and then everything
- 39:53just kind of tumbles. You know, that's why you see
- 39:56like a quarterback who's on one and then they just keep, you
- 39:59know, performing. I just think Fields Fields
- 40:03hasn't even played every game this year and he got hurt one
- 40:06and missed one. He's been sick 19 times.
- 40:11That's 3.8 times per game and he missed a game.
- 40:16But now it's of the five games he's played in.
- 40:18So it doesn't count the 6th 1:00, but it also counts the
- 40:21partial game that he got hurt in. 19 times is a lot.
- 40:25That's a lot. I don't know if that's leading
- 40:28in the NFL or not, but that. Is I know exactly.
- 40:30Many times and. Then with 25 sacks.
- 40:34Cheaply. Cam Horde.
- 40:37Oh yeah, checks out. I can't even call.
- 40:40I won't even call him a bust. And if you have the highest
- 40:43amount of sacks in the league, I'm not even going to.
- 40:46You don't even qualify to be a bust.
- 40:48I'm like, let's see you not be on the ground for a second
- 40:51before I, you know, put that label on you.
- 40:54You know, I bet if you were to take Ken Ward and put him on the
- 40:57Raiders, it's just full swap Gino and Ken Ward.
- 41:02I bet the Raiders are very good. I could see that.
- 41:08Because Ken Ward can sling it and the Raiders do have some
- 41:10good tea. Or some good.
- 41:12Well, their. Offensive line's not that great
- 41:15though. Yeah, he had an 18 sacks.
- 41:19But the difference is, is that you're more afraid of the
- 41:21Raiders running the football than you are the Titans running
- 41:24the football. And so you have to respect to
- 41:27run a bit more. So you have to do the Pete
- 41:29Carroll play action thing and and Gino just doesn't seem to be
- 41:32get there right now. Dude Jones, Daniel only been
- 41:37sacked five times. Yeah, dude, they're keeping him
- 41:40clean. Danny Jones, yeah.
- 41:44I mean, the Colts have had a good offensive line for years
- 41:47now. They just haven't had a
- 41:48quarterback to play back there. Did Brock Purdy get hurt on the
- 41:53field or like off? It was on it.
- 41:58Was on the game. Was it one?
- 42:00That's 2 packs? But that's just because he got a
- 42:02huge contract. That's the only reason why.
- 42:05True. I'm surprised.
- 42:07I think the world was surprised. Christian Mccaffrey's still
- 42:10upright. Yeah, Avery said that last week,
- 42:12didn't he? What was I saw?
- 42:14I saw a video. It was like Fred Warner.
- 42:18We have to sacrifice him to keep McCaffrey.
- 42:20Healthy for one more. Game sacrificing 49ers players
- 42:25to keep McCaffrey alive. Although of all players
- 42:29sacrifice, Fred Warner was not the guy.
- 42:31That Niger defense got significantly worse once he went
- 42:34out. He is the heart and soul of
- 42:36pretty much that entire team and especially that defense.
- 42:39I felt bad for him. And did you see it?
- 42:41Did you guys see that happen? Like see the replay of it?
- 42:44No, I don't like to I. Don't.
- 42:46I I. Wouldn't like to, but I didn't
- 42:48see it. I I if you don't want to, don't.
- 42:51It was it's bad. His his legs a different
- 42:55direction. Yeah, I saw the Tyree kill
- 42:57injury and after that I don't want to see any more.
- 42:58Injuries. Dude, Kevin Ware scarred me for
- 43:01life. Kevin Ware actually his first
- 43:02last document. That guy.
- 43:06Yeah. All right.
- 43:06So well, this last topic we have was your idea, so do you want to
- 43:12introduce it to us? Nope, you don't.
- 43:16You don't even remember what it is do.
- 43:18You yeah, AFC divisional playoffs, of course I do.
- 43:21So we're going to talk about now the let me let me go through the
- 43:25current rankings one through 7 in the expanded playoffs we have
- 43:29now and we're talking AFC specifically, right?
- 43:32Yes, just AFC. So currently in the AFC one
- 43:36through 7 we've got Colts at #1 Steelers AT2, Chargers at 3,
- 43:41Patriots at 4, Bills sitting in the wild card spot at 5,
- 43:45Jacksonville the next wild card spot at 7, and the Broncos.
- 43:49Or excuse me, Jacksonville is 6th and the Broncos in the 7th
- 43:53and final or the 3rd and final wild card spot right #7 So
- 43:58notably not in the playoff picture currently is the Chiefs.
- 44:02They're pretty much the only one I would consider maybe put in
- 44:06there. But but through them, let's talk
- 44:09about possibility of making the playoffs for the NFC side of the
- 44:15NFL. AFC.
- 44:18Excuse me AFC, thank you. This is why you do things.
- 44:21Jewel and I just make FUD Weiner jokes.
- 44:25I tried to give you guys a chance every once in a while.
- 44:28And we drop it. We drop the ball every time.
- 44:31We are the Titan receivers. You are Cam Ward.
- 44:34We just cannot catch the football.
- 44:36You throw it to us all the time. We can't do it it.
- 44:39Was. Like it's the NFC and Joe's like
- 44:41close, close. Like AFC, Like yeah, there you
- 44:44go, 50%. Chance to get it right.
- 44:47You got it. There you go.
- 44:48That's that's close though. Hey, it's better than the it's
- 44:51better than the last time I handed it off to you.
- 44:53You just completely jumped off the podcast.
- 44:59My Internet go down or something I don't even remember.
- 45:01That I was just like, will take it away and you're just like,
- 45:05Nope, I'm gone, all right? Anyways, I agree with what you
- 45:15said. Will I?
- 45:16I see this. I see the AFC standings as eight
- 45:20teams competing for seven spots because you have the Chiefs in
- 45:23the eighth spot and then you have everybody else after that
- 45:25and I don't see anybody else after that making the playoffs.
- 45:29And I think there's really eight teams competing for seven spots
- 45:32in the AFCI. Think this is the earliest I've
- 45:34ever seen it where the race is this tight like like usually in
- 45:39in six weeks into the season, we're still looking at at where
- 45:43there's 16 teams on the side. We're looking at at least 10,
- 45:46right? At least 10 teams that could
- 45:47possibly make it. But we're already down to the
- 45:50chances are there's only going to be 7.
- 45:53I don't see sitting like third places here like the Bengals,
- 45:57they're not going to make a run. Texans chances are low.
- 46:01Really, you're only looking at the AFC West and the Chiefs on
- 46:04if they can do anything or not. Right.
- 46:07Yeah, the the Patriots and Bills are clearly the two best teams
- 46:11in that division. The Steelers are just going to
- 46:13run away with that division. Although I do see the Steelers
- 46:16as as the same thing as every year where they they just have
- 46:19this easy schedule and then towards the end of the year when
- 46:22it gets closer to the playoffs, they'll just start to fade away
- 46:24little by little. And then they'll get into the
- 46:26playoffs and they'll just lose their first game.
- 46:28So I just see the Steelers as the same, but they don't have
- 46:30any competition right now in that division.
- 46:32And then you've got the three teams in the AFC West and you've
- 46:35got the Colts and the Jags. Now, if I had to pick so, so I
- 46:40mentioned before I said there's eight teams competing for seven
- 46:42spots. If I had to pick one team to not
- 46:45make those seven spots, it's the Jags.
- 46:48And the reason why is because they have the worst quarterback
- 46:51of all those eight teams. Trevor Lawrence is by far the
- 46:55worst quarterback of all the eight teams.
- 46:57Not even just just based off of opinion.
- 46:59It's like statistically he is the worst quarterback of those
- 47:03eight teams that are competing for those seven playoff spots
- 47:06right now. So if I had to pick one to go
- 47:08out, I would say the Jags and I got to apologize to our fan and
- 47:13Will's Co worker Lil Kirkin for because the Jags fan.
- 47:18So I apologize, but I I don't long term like I don't trust the
- 47:22Jags because of Trevor Lawrence. I want to say I know he's not
- 47:27considered a bust. He is a starting quarterback.
- 47:30But I think if Trevor Lawrence got put on the right team, I
- 47:35think he could pop off. I think he's I think he is
- 47:40someone who could kind of that Sam darn old position was like,
- 47:43dude, you put him on a team with a good line, some good weapons,
- 47:47I bet, and the right coach, I'll bet he could pop off.
- 47:52I think Trevor Lawrence's problem is that he's just been
- 47:55like he he was the freshman quarterback who led Clemson to a
- 48:00national championship. And then ever since then he's
- 48:02just supposed like he was supposed to have been the next
- 48:06Tom Brady, right? Like he was supposed to be the
- 48:08next generational guy. And I don't think that he I
- 48:12don't think he could handle that.
- 48:13And so I think that's really just what Trevor Lawrence's
- 48:16problem is kind. Of the same with Deshaun Watson.
- 48:18I think a lot of that, I think that rest of those Clemson teams
- 48:24just made those quarterbacks look extra good.
- 48:26Yeah, I agree. I mean, same thing with Arch
- 48:29Manning, right? He's still in college.
- 48:31He was supposed to be the guy. And this year, they just dropped
- 48:34out the face of the earth. Dude, he played last year, he
- 48:37played like 2 games, like salt, like full games, and he did
- 48:41well. And so like seeing him, I mean,
- 48:43he's been, I mean, yeah, he's been doing better than he was,
- 48:48but not great. But I'm like Kate, where was
- 48:50last year's arch? Like that dude was actually like
- 48:54balling out. And this one's like grimacing
- 48:57when he throws the ball. Or last year's arch was fighting
- 49:01for a starting spot. This year's arch is just being
- 49:04handed one. Yeah, and we now know why he
- 49:07wasn't starting. Right I I.
- 49:11Quinn, yours was a baller. Yeah, Quinn, Yours.
- 49:13He actually did well. He deserved the spot.
- 49:17Yeah. Thoughts on the AFC playoff?
- 49:21AFC Sorry. Freaking.
- 49:23Head no, that's that's that that's me.
- 49:26I got to apologize because you're leading this one will so.
- 49:30No, yeah, I'm not leading anything matter of fact here.
- 49:34I recuse myself, Yeah, I think, I think the Jaguars will
- 49:41probably not make it in trying to think because I did say that
- 49:48the Chiefs wouldn't make the playoffs and I really don't want
- 49:51them to. But I don't know if there's any
- 49:55other team besides the Jaguars, maybe the Texans that could like
- 50:03make it. Based off of what we've seen
- 50:06from the text and so far, there's no way.
- 50:09It's just sad that they'll end up making it on a technicality
- 50:12that the AF, the bottom half, the AFC is just dog water.
- 50:15Like they're just going to make it by default.
- 50:21So here's a question for you guys.
- 50:24Of the four divisions in the AFC, the American Football
- 50:29Conference crashed at that time. There you go.
- 50:31There you go. Let's actually, let's actually
- 50:34take the four winners. We've got Patriots, Steelers,
- 50:38Colts, Chargers. Do you see all four of those
- 50:43current leaders in the AFC got it again, two in a row holding
- 50:49on and and winning their divisions?
- 50:52Or do you not see them winning? Who, who and what?
- 50:55Who, who you? Have Colts wins it?
- 50:57Before I say my answer, I got to say, well, that was a very good
- 50:59leading question right there. It's a very.
- 51:02Good leading question, thank you.
- 51:04I will. I checked GPT while you were
- 51:07talking. But no, I don't see all four
- 51:12current division winners or division leaders, I should say.
- 51:16I don't see all four current division leaders staying as the
- 51:19division leaders when the playoffs come around.
- 51:22I think the Patriots and Bills could go either way, honestly,
- 51:25because the Patriots are doing much better than a lot of people
- 51:28expected. Although I will say I did have
- 51:30them making the playoffs, so I'll take some credit for that
- 51:32one. But the the Steelers are going
- 51:34to win and I think the Colts are going to win.
- 51:36I don't think there's, I don't think the Jags are going to win
- 51:39that division. So I think Steelers and Colts,
- 51:40the Chargers, Broncos and Chiefs, it's going to be yeah,
- 51:45yeah, that's, that's going to be tough.
- 51:48I think the Broncos need to figure out what the heck they're
- 51:50doing on offense. But that defense, dude, they are
- 51:54they're good. They're legit are have looked
- 51:56good and they've looked also looked bad.
- 51:57And same thing with the Chiefs. They've they've looked good and
- 52:00they've also looked bad. So I think that could go anyway.
- 52:04And I think it's kind of a toss up between the Patriots and the
- 52:06Bills. Then let me ask a follow up to
- 52:08that. Well, you guys currently, so I
- 52:12guess we already did this. Never mind.
- 52:13So this is a bad question, but so so hold on, let me let me let
- 52:17me go again here. We've got the Jags out.
- 52:20We have the chiefs potentially in so re rank them and and maybe
- 52:25not full one to seven but give me your 4.
- 52:28Division leaders and your three wild.
- 52:29Card games by by end of season the based on the first six
- 52:35weeks. I'm still going to go with the
- 52:40Bills in the AFC East. Yep, Steelers, obviously in the
- 52:43AFC North. Yep, AFC West.
- 52:47I feel like the Chiefs are going to win it.
- 52:49I really do. Yep.
- 52:50And the AFC S is going to be the Colts.
- 52:53OK, so there's your four winners.
- 52:54Now give me your three. Wild.
- 52:55Card teams? Well, not the Jags.
- 52:58Because I already said I don't think the Jags.
- 53:00Are going to make it so it would be the Patriots, the Chargers
- 53:03and the Broncos. OK, Avery.
- 53:07Who are your four winners? I think the Bells are going to
- 53:10beat out the Patriots. For the East, I think the jeez.
- 53:17I mean, unless the Ravens really figure it out, I don't see
- 53:21anyone challenging the Steelers. They won't.
- 53:24Don't even, I mean. Cincinnati's got a better record
- 53:26than. Them, but they've got even less
- 53:27of a chance to get back. The Steelers would have to
- 53:30absolutely just. Crumble.
- 53:32And then the fact that the Browns.
- 53:34Are below. Both of those is just the most
- 53:37embarrassing thing. Steelers.
- 53:43Yeah, Aaron. Rodgers like, oh, we're winning.
- 53:44We won our division. Like yeah, I three division,
- 53:49yeah, if it was 3. Geriatrics.
- 53:51Yeah, Like, yeah, you better. You better be leading the South.
- 53:59I got the Colts. I think the Jaguars will
- 54:02actually make a wild card based on right now.
- 54:07So who's out in the AFC West then?
- 54:10Oh, sorry, I just I. Just went, Oh yeah, the Chiefs.
- 54:15I think the Broncos. Are going to end up, yeah,
- 54:19they're not good. They think Rasheed Rice is going
- 54:22to change their fortunes. They're not going to get any
- 54:24better somehow. And I think, yeah, I think the
- 54:29Broncos, actually. Win in the West, I think they
- 54:32just keep getting better throughout the season and I
- 54:34think it ends up passing over the Chargers.
- 54:37I think the Raiders end up beating up on the Chiefs too.
- 54:40Chiefs end up in last place. The Raiders wow in the in.
- 54:45The conference. I know, just kidding.
- 54:49I. Know, I know, they end.
- 54:50Up The Jets end up winning. More games in the Chiefs this
- 54:52year and then. As.
- 54:56My wild card picks. Patriots, Jags.
- 55:00And. Chargers OK, What about you,
- 55:02Will? I think I've got the Patriots.
- 55:04In the East. Patriots, Steelers, Colts and
- 55:11Broncos. And I've got Wild.
- 55:15Card teams, I've got the. Bills, the Jags and the Chiefs.
- 55:22Chargers don't make the playoffs this year.
- 55:24Chargers are going to charge her.
- 55:26Chargers are going. To charge her charger.
- 55:28Hardly know her. I also think I also think that
- 55:35if the chargers. Don't make the playoffs, and I
- 55:37keep your guys opinion on this. The Chargers don't make the
- 55:39playoffs this year. It's Harbaugh's last year and
- 55:43really in Los Angeles. Are you?
- 55:46Are you? Making a prediction or is that?
- 55:48Yeah, no. This is a question I I think
- 55:50that if. They don't, then he won't, then
- 55:53it'll be his last year. But what do you guys think about
- 55:56that? I think it's too soon.
- 55:58You'll stick around. I think it's.
- 56:00Way too. I don't know where else you
- 56:01would. Jump to.
- 56:03He hasn't. Even like brought in the
- 56:05infractions on the team yet like once he starts, yeah, he has to
- 56:09do that once the league. Starts throwing the hammer.
- 56:12Down on and then he'll be all right.
- 56:13Now it's time to leave. That's my queue.
- 56:15That's been the that's been his MO for a while now.
- 56:21Yeah, I don't think. I don't know where in his. 2nd
- 56:25year. Isn't this only his second year?
- 56:31Where does John? Harbaugh go after this year.
- 56:34Yeah, that's the better question.
- 56:36That's good question. Yeah, Are they?
- 56:40Brothers, I'm kidding. OK?
- 56:41Yeah. What are you looking up with his
- 56:45life? I'm trying to read.
- 56:47How Harvard's been in Los Angeles since I beat Michigan.
- 56:53Like 2 years. The two years.
- 56:54Three years. This is only won the national
- 56:57championship. Yeah.
- 56:59Yeah, this is only a second year.
- 57:02Yeah, won a national. Championship got a bunch of
- 57:04infractions. Dipped out to the NFL?
- 57:07Yeah, I think there's still a short leaf shining.
- 57:09Now. This might not be his last year,
- 57:11but there's I don't. Know I that's what you're
- 57:15saying. That's what you're saying.
- 57:16It's. Real.
- 57:16I don't. Think, I don't think teams like
- 57:18to get rid of their. Coaches like that quick unless
- 57:20the team is just absolutely terrible.
- 57:25I I just think I would still have.
- 57:26I would still have. Trust in him.
- 57:29I mean if if they finish like 7 or at least you know a decent.
- 57:33Winning record. I'd be like, hey, I'm not going
- 57:36to count again. I'm not going to bet against Jim
- 57:38Harbaugh. Long term it also depends on.
- 57:43How the rest of the season. Goes like if they miss the
- 57:45playoffs but they're like 9:00 and 8:00 or they miss the
- 57:48playoffs with ten wins, like that's a different story versus
- 57:52they're four and two right now and they end the season with
- 57:55five wins like that. That's completely different.
- 57:58So I don't think that's going to happen, but there's a
- 58:00possibility they missed the playoffs, but I don't think they
- 58:03would. I don't think they would be that
- 58:05bad. Oh super super off topic still
- 58:12football related. I was looking at the Kansas City
- 58:15schedule and on ESPN it shows the ticket prices next to it and
- 58:20I'm so used to seeing the Cowboys ones like oh that's the
- 58:23Cowboys game because it's super expensive.
- 58:25At Buffalo, the tickets as low as 417 dollars.
- 58:32Do you want to guess what the Dallas game is as low as?
- 58:35And it's in. It's at Dallas, Dallas, Kansas
- 58:39City. Yeah.
- 58:43I don't know. 900 bucks. Joel. 600. 80. 4 Whoa.
- 58:52Whoa. On on the Chiefs.
- 58:55Schedule The next lowest game is the Titans.
- 59:01At 113 dollars. That's the cheapest it's ever
- 59:05been. 84 bucks it's probably like.
- 59:09Out in the parking lot. You know what?
- 59:12You know what, Avery? You're right though.
- 59:14Dallas has multiple standing rooms only sections.
- 59:18Those are standing rooms. Yeah, you're right.
- 59:20Those are standing room only seats.
- 59:22Yep. You called it basically the
- 59:23parking. Lot good poll.
- 59:26Avery, good poll. Yeah, I'm looking at.
- 59:30I'm looking at Ticketmaster. Now, and yeah, that is.
- 59:33Yeah, if you sit where Jake and I sat, I think we we watched a
- 59:37game versus the Giants, a couple.
- 59:40Years ago and. The seats that we were in are
- 59:4512. $100 now, yeah. That sounds.
- 59:49Oh, shoot. The very the upper.
- 59:51Deck the highest. Up 500 bucks?
- 59:54Yep. Well, that's what happens when
- 59:56your team is. Going to the Super Bowl every
- 59:57year. Yeah, man, that's what happens.
- 1:00:00What? A wild bar.
- 1:00:02Cover charge. Just a just a cover charge to
- 1:00:08get in there and like he now you.
- 1:00:09Can buy drinks now you're allowed to buy our drinks you
- 1:00:13can't see the game, but you can buy our drinks, you can buy
- 1:00:15stuff and. Having been to a game.
- 1:00:21There the stand your room only if you have a seat, you can go
- 1:00:26stand in the stand your room only seats.
- 1:00:27Yeah, yeah. And just with everyone.
- 1:00:30Else no packed because everybody who has because.
- 1:00:33Again, it's just it's an open bar at that point.
- 1:00:36You just stand around and drink and it's like, well, basically
- 1:00:38paid $80.00 to come into. The game without a.
- 1:00:41Seat. Yeah, you're not going to.
- 1:00:44Sit. Sorry, Jill.
- 1:00:46You try to wrap this up. Your wife's about to yell at
- 1:00:48you. Unless you want to do it I.
- 1:00:52Sure don't. All right, well.
