- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the IM team series and your daily influence and today we are going to tackle the topic of smart decision making and
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: For us, smart decision-making actually is more than just being specific, measurable, attainable relative.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: And Tommy, though it is, it's the foundation, but there are three pillars of smart decision-making.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: And those three pillars really are how we as leaders aren't anybody for that matter, because as you may know, we think everybody is a leader in their own specific areas of influence and in contextually, whatever that means.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: The three pillars are data, experience, and intuition.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: And those three things feed decision making.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Intuition can come from a lot of different places.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: It can come from the experience that we have.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: It can come from working with data.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it can come from just being in environments where we are learning sometimes sub or unconsciously.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes we don't know where our intuition comes from, but it's still there.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really important that we integrate those three pillars as we drive, smart decision making.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it's really important that we emphasize that data
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: Having measurable insights is very important, but that data must be smart.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: That data must be accurate, relevant, and actionable.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: And we need to understand how our experience offers that contextual backdrop to not just the data, but then to the intuitions that we get.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: How those intuitions can be distinctly different.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: They can be intuitions not based on data.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: They can be intuitions based on behavior.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: They can be intuitions based on relationships and length of time, which is part of smart.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: They can be based on a lot of different things.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: But it's really important that effective leadership isn't just about following numbers.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: or just about following our gut feelings, but it's about harmonizing all three elements for well-rounded decisions.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: Those three elements, data, experience and intuition.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: And when we transform our experience, that experience includes the data we get, how we read that data, how we interpret that data.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: how we understand that data, how we handle our lack of understanding of that data, how we ask questions about that data, and how we transform that through that experience and into informed intuition.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: And seasoned experience can let depth to the intuitive decision making process without
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: replacing the need for hard data.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't mean that we still shouldn't have that hard data.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: It just means that we can lean into our intuitions a little bit more.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: We can maybe get to the understanding of data quicker because of those intuitions and experience.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: We might be able to ask better questions because we identify certain aspects of the data, certain behavior that that data is causing.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: the data might be causing people to make different decisions and then you can challenge how those decisions contextual are disrupting or ading what's going on in your areas of influence.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: And we can create practical strategies for us as leaders to convert past learning into instinctual insights.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: We can do that by leaning into and giving our teams and ourselves, the ability to challenge the ability to, as we've talked about in the past, get out of those echo chambers, where we might hear ourselves talking about our experience.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Here are ourselves talking about our intuition.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Here are ourselves looking and analyzing numbers in a way that isn't taken into account the behaviors that are being influenced by those.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: We can get out of those and put those into tactical engagement and create better decisions for us by implementing this three pillar approach.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: And when we lean into this, we actually lean into the context of where we're at in a moment.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're taking into account what's going on in a smart way right now.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we're allowing the past to help us.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: But we're also allowing where we might be going thinking about the opportunities we have that dangers, the risks.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: And if we're talking these through any smart way for being specific, measurable, attainable, relatively, relatively timely about how we're implementing our discussions, how we're challenging, how we're reading data.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we will have amazingly powerful breakthroughs.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Not just breakthroughs for us as a team, but breakthroughs in our ability to make decisions as leaders.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: To collaborate, to bring in our teams together and make very decisive decisions.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: That will help us lead better, help our teams to work with us better, crust us more, because our decisions will become better.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: They will become more accurate.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: They will yield better results.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that will be something that is understood when we use these terms smart, three pillars.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: Data experience intuition, specific, measurable, attainable, relative, and time.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: When we use these very simple terms, we provide context, we provide experience, we provide an ability for those to become part of the intuitive process that we have the habits that we begin to have.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: in organizations leading our organizations and growing together.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I hope that you have a better understanding of the three pillars of smart decision-making and how you can use your experience, your intuition with data, being smart to be the best leader you can to make the best decisions and to grow your organization together with all of the individuals that you have with you.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you have a great day and we'll talk to you again soon.
