- Sean Graver: Hey, you did the right thing. You put in the work, and somebody else got the credit, or the reward, or the benefit of the doubt. Hey, if that's landed on you lately, then this one's for you today. Welcome back. I'm Sean, and this is Prayer Before Work. So let's look at ⁓ Peter first Peter two twenty, where Peter writes When you do good and suffer for it, you endure. This is a gracious thing in the sight of God. A gracious thing in the sight of God. Now that phrase sounds good until you've been on the short end of something unfair. And workplaces are not perfectly fair, right? Managers, ⁓ they might make inconsistent calls. Systems sometimes reward the wrong things. And people who cut corners sometimes move ahead faster than people who don't. And if you're trying to work with honesty and integrity, you've undoubtedly run into this. It's frustrating. And it's easy to let that frustration turn into bitterness, or worse, to start wondering why you bother doing the right thing at all. And that can lead to a dangerous place called apathy. But here's what I keep coming back to. You don't do the right thing because it always pays off. You do it because it's who you are. And God sees it. He sees what your manager missed, He sees what the system didn't reward. He doesn't grade on the same curve. And that doesn't make the unfairness disappear, I know. But it does change what the unfairness means. Right? You're not invisible. Your faithfulness, it's not lost. It is seen. So let's pray. Father, in the places where work hasn't been fair, especially where I've given more than I've received, I'm trusting that you see it. Would you take away any bitterness that's been building up in me? Help me keep doing the right thing, not for the reward, but but because of who you're making me to be. You're my witness, and that's enough. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen. So go make today count.
