- 0:46Welcome back to the boundary on a podcast with my partner, Brian
- 0:51Segal. I'm Curtis Wilson, Brian.
- 0:54Go ahead. Do it.
- 0:55Before we start do it. I need to see it.
- 0:58I need to see it surrender, Cobra, man.
- 1:01Yeah, your boy courtesy here is putting a little bit of a beat
- 1:04down on me right now. Not not confirmed yet, but I'm
- 1:08in a position where essentially his next three players have to
- 1:14score. Absolutely.
- 1:15Thing for me to win, so it ain't happening.
- 1:18I'm taking the Yale Solomon it. It's all good.
- 1:23It's it hasn't been my year. Injuries of crush me, guys, on
- 1:27the covid list of crush. Me.
- 1:29It just hasn't been the championship.
- 1:31You know? Your guys aren't as focused.
- 1:34Yeah. Yes, I asked you you took home
- 1:37everything. You were what 11 and 2 in the
- 1:41regular season 11 and to it. Yeah, I crush the regular season
- 1:46and then smoke the playoffs it. What?
- 1:48He's looking the playoffs. Thank you on, by 30 ghost games
- 1:51last year in the playoffs. I don't like it was it like a
- 1:54game, it wasn't like brown was sitting here on pins and needles
- 1:57on a Monday night. It was like I'm yeah absolutely
- 2:00Squad last year and nobody was really injured much.
- 2:03So no not many in that helps. You had a good balance.
- 2:07You took a few risk here and there you know the way you play
- 2:10Fantasy like we all should but you know I got to just throw
- 2:15that in. And there we had photos of our
- 2:17teams, had a good day. Both teams winning your Colts,
- 2:24put a SmackDown on the bills. I mean, yeah, that was that was
- 2:28big. Jonathan Taylor for MVP ladies
- 2:31and Gentlemen. Let's go ahead, Hank and I mean
- 2:34for more touchdowns today, right?
- 2:3655 he got a fit. Yeah, so yeah, you guys are now
- 2:43right outside the wall. Wildcard, the Niners.
- 2:47And he went for over 200 all-purpose, rushing and
- 2:51receiving, he's really good. And with the Titans losing y'all
- 2:56inch up in the division. Every yeah, I mean, the only
- 2:58downside is that we got to be a full game ahead of them to
- 3:01actually take the division. It's not, it's no tiebreaker.
- 3:05We don't own the, the advantage there.
- 3:08So we got to be a full game ahead of them.
- 3:10So that's the downside. But the upside is, we just got a
- 3:12game closer to that, it's true. And And in the next few weeks
- 3:16they've got Patriots Jaguar, Steelers, 49ers, yeah, they've
- 3:22got like a 3 and 2 record potentially out of that.
- 3:26And then y'all got, let's see. The Buccaneers next week.
- 3:30Texans Patriots Cardinals. Y'all got to run for path to get
- 3:34there especially if you know Kyler and the boys get get
- 3:39healthy there and they ended up playing well today, even even
- 3:44without Murray, they played well.
- 3:46So it shows you the importance in any division in football of
- 3:51having a good backup quarterback, right?
- 3:55That likes the one you can depend on.
- 3:57I mean, dean or cult solid but he still even you know, getting
- 4:03a little bit older he still can move a little bit so he still
- 4:05can run most more or less the full complement of that offense
- 4:10and and get things done so that's helped them.
- 4:14And you get a you get a veteran like that that still takes care
- 4:19of the football, but still can do everything you need in that
- 4:22offense. That's what's big for them.
- 4:25It's very true, man. It's very true and it's you
- 4:27again. It just shows.
- 4:28The importance of it again, all levels of football and we get to
- 4:33talk about it. Some tonight we have and do the
- 4:36Hokies here. And let's just dive into it,
- 4:40Braun. Let's start you know, 38:26
- 4:46loss, right? My mind didn't fool me a tea and
- 4:503826. I got that wrote down here
- 4:52because I did not. Maybe it was just having a bit.
- 4:58Busy day and it was a late night.
- 5:01It was a loss. I didn't stay up and like, fever
- 5:06over it and read a million posts.
- 5:09It ended had some family in town taking like them, went to bed
- 5:14fell asleep. Yeah, I think a lot of this is
- 5:18because we know what's coming next.
- 5:21Yeah, so we're not we're not necessarily sweating.
- 5:24The outcomes at this point, we more or less want.
- 5:30To see this team play hard play play as good as they can, to
- 5:34close this out, and hopefully, get a game or two in the in the
- 5:38win column as they go about that, to really kind of bring
- 5:44things home on a positive note. But, you know, I think the
- 5:47expectations are Kids play hard and see what happens.
- 5:53So we at least got part of that out of the equation.
- 5:56And I like some of the things I saw from j.c. from a leadership
- 6:00standpoint. Again, this isn't something he's
- 6:02doing long-term but I like I like the the fact that he was
- 6:07out there, you know, take taking some chances putting putting,
- 6:12putting the guys in calculated risk situations to get back in
- 6:17the Ballgame, once they fell behind early and they Did the
- 6:20onside kick is probably what Brian's really talking about the
- 6:22biggest. It was a great play at the time,
- 6:25it worked, it pulled us right back in the ball game again,
- 6:30calculated risk. I know some people saying they
- 6:32thought, the defense wasn't playing hard.
- 6:34I didn't see that. I felt like the defense was
- 6:36playing hard. I think they made some really
- 6:38critical mistakes, but it wasn't for lack of effort.
- 6:43So, I did not see a team quit last night that could
- 6:47potentially happen when you had what happened this week.
- 6:50Week JC again. You said it, calculated risks
- 6:53made it, you know, the two-point conversion.
- 6:56I know it was an argument last night.
- 6:58Several places. Why are we going for two?
- 7:01I was okay with it where it where you had the momentum, the
- 7:05play call was to be desired, which we gonna be a bigger issue
- 7:10with the play called in the decision.
- 7:11There we were late enough in the game.
- 7:15At that point, I don't have a big problem chasing points there
- 7:18just because you do, you get it down to a field goal.
- 7:22Game versus a touchdown game, it set yourself up there, so I
- 7:28don't have a problem with that necessarily.
- 7:30Lee. No, none.
- 7:32None with it. And again, him in the press or
- 7:36afterwards, I didn't get to see everything.
- 7:38So awesome. Quote took full responsibility
- 7:40said. No Asterix on this.
- 7:41We lost the game. You know and that's kind of what
- 7:46you want to hear. Lost the game.
- 7:49Nothing special about it. It was my duty to go out there
- 7:51and win the game and we lost. Yeah, so you know, we've already
- 7:56felt better about the if anybody wants the pressure.
- 8:00On Thursday. We already talked about the
- 8:02injury thing AC was quickly. Very open and upfront about what
- 8:06happened about what's going on especially with Trey not Shadow
- 8:12games or I don't know what's happening.
- 8:14You knew what was happening. All you have to do is we'll see
- 8:17you Saturday. Yeah it was.
- 8:19This is what's going on. This is why he's doing it.
- 8:22This is what's this is what it is, and then we're going to keep
- 8:24it moving. So we're going to see the more
- 8:27interesting to see Monday. Which will definitely be
- 8:30watching that especially with what, you know, what transpired
- 8:33with tray. But let's flip it round.
- 8:35Let's start with the defense because the defense had a
- 8:38blunders worth of stuff. It was yeah, it was probably
- 8:43probably one of their worst outings in a while probably
- 8:47since That will Syracuse. Probably Syracuse.
- 8:52Yeah, and Sarah, but Syracuse was more of a death by a
- 8:57Thousand Cuts after a while. Whereas you know this seem like
- 9:03like they it seemed like they were down this, they were down
- 9:05from the get-go. Yeah, they got they got there.
- 9:09They got their dicks kicked in the dirt early and then it took
- 9:13them a long time to get out there and by the Time they
- 9:18finally rally. The offense was doing a little
- 9:20bit, but it looked like it was too little too late and then a
- 9:23couple more big plays happen to kind of cap things off.
- 9:27I'm writing that one down here. Brian Dick's kicked in the dirt.
- 9:34Put it on a t-shirt. Yeah, I'm gonna say this your
- 9:42version. Which you were the Catalyst for
- 9:44bronze. Usually the Catalyst for the
- 9:45versions just because of his background and playing, Thing
- 9:49after my thoughts in there but you crushed it.
- 9:52I'll tip the cap. Everything you said that we
- 9:55needed to do the things. We didn't do good it absolutely
- 9:59cost us. The game will start with the one
- 10:01thing we did do good and I'm going to ask you for a great.
- 10:04Let's start with gap, Integrity. Brian.
- 10:06I mean, the rush defense and of this wasn't really a good Miami
- 10:11rushing team. Only averaging about 135 yards
- 10:13game and we completely snuffed it out.
- 10:16You know, 57 yards on six carries.
- 10:19What did you see? What are you grading?
- 10:21I guess? Essentially the front seven and
- 10:23the team as a whole for Gap Integrity.
- 10:25Yeah. This is probably one of their
- 10:26better games overall. I'm going to give them, I'd say
- 10:29it's B plus a minus range and I'm going to give a big
- 10:33shout-out to Keyshawn artist who was a big part of why we were
- 10:39able to kind of keep some of those potential first downs and
- 10:43not and really one that should have been a no first down that
- 10:46turned into one on that. That fourth down that got
- 10:51spotted in a full half yard off. Like it should, it should it
- 10:57wasn't even close. It was terrible 5 and it was
- 11:00reviewed and what they even better.
- 11:04Come on said today, there was this perfect angle.
- 11:06You can see where the ball was like if you stopped it like this
- 11:09is where the line is. This is where the ball is and
- 11:14you put ball on the line and I get they can't like for whatever
- 11:18reason. It has to be a full speed.
- 11:20Look the when they look at it, whatever.
- 11:22But I just I don't I don't get that.
- 11:26But again, let's get back to what we're talking about here.
- 11:29So gapper Integrity again, Keyshawn artist was was really
- 11:32the, the big difference here. He played a majority of the
- 11:36snaps out there, and he really did a good job of stepping up in
- 11:40the gap. Giving a hard shoulder, really?
- 11:44Not letting the point of contact drive him back anymore.
- 11:49So, where wherever he was getting the stick, that's where
- 11:51the tackle was made. And I think that's the
- 11:54difference between some of our other linebackers is that when
- 11:58he hits you, you go down. It's true.
- 12:02He does bring the Thunder and he brings the Thunder but he also
- 12:05has pretty good form. He had Thunders, he gets form.
- 12:09It's not. I'm gonna, you see a lot of
- 12:11guys, they bring the Thunder and they're not essentially rapping.
- 12:14He does when he hits he still under control and I think that's
- 12:21awesome. A lot of players struggle, with
- 12:24either being bringing the bring the lumber or forming up and
- 12:29being under control of the tackle, And he does a good job
- 12:32of kind of finding that balance where he can still bring a pop.
- 12:36But but not really put himself in a bad position.
- 12:39Yeah, and I'm going to say this and I know some people are going
- 12:41to scream. Well, they did all this other
- 12:43stuff better. They won the game but here's the
- 12:48issue. The reason we had that chance in
- 12:49the second half is they couldn't establish a wrong.
- 12:52They couldn't establish a run at all compared to this game could
- 12:56have been hit right where we had no shot because the Gap
- 13:01Integrity sucked and they started running the ball at will
- 13:05taking long drives. Even if they didn't score, they
- 13:09break the break, the 40 punnet deep and we weren't doing
- 13:12anything offensively that game. So, So what I'd ask people to do
- 13:17is go back. Think about the game.
- 13:20If this isn't happening decent, we don't have a fighting chance.
- 13:24Now, the rain starts coming down, they can't quite sling, it
- 13:27around as much as they want to and they could run the ball, so
- 13:31won't and that that enabled us to get some some plays on
- 13:35offense and get down the field a couple times.
- 13:39Have the big onside kick there. I mean, there are several things
- 13:42in there where that helped us really get Back into that game
- 13:46because it really could have went far south.
- 13:51If we were struggling in both phases there.
- 13:53So kudos to the the defensive line in the linebackers, like I
- 13:57said, in particular, shout out to Keyshawn artist.
- 13:59Probably my player the game on defense.
- 14:02Nothing really negative to say about his play and like I said,
- 14:06I think overall front seven did a decent job.
- 14:10It's the secondary where well unfortunately things started
- 14:14falling apart. Art, well yeah, the other thing
- 14:17you said Brian was we have to limit the big plays and okay, we
- 14:22gave up two touchdowns over 50 yards.
- 14:24I'm one but two Harley's 55 Smith, 75 literally one play
- 14:30after we scored a touchdown, they take it right back to where
- 14:33it was. Then you had Rambo had a
- 14:3639-yard. ER George had a 32 yarder Rambo.
- 14:40Let us up all game. 7 for 116, we talked about him, we talked
- 14:44about how highly Everybody was how he had solid numbers at
- 14:47Oklahoma. He went over 1,000 this weekend,
- 14:52that's really making it making himself some money this year and
- 14:56then Van Dyke 375, three touchdowns, Brian, let's hear a
- 15:02your grade and then what exactly was happening.
- 15:06I mean, it's got to be an F, right?
- 15:07I mean, you can't give up that many big plays and, and get a
- 15:11passing grade, and it was a lot of things.
- 15:16Number one, probably the worst game of Jermaine wohlers career.
- 15:20Yep. And it was a, he had a very bad
- 15:25first half and he only had an okay second half.
- 15:29Yeah. And I'm not sure what was going
- 15:33on but it was, it was little things and big things.
- 15:38It was like some some of it look like efforts on.
- 15:41Would look like techniques on would just look like He's, you
- 15:45know, he just got beat like though.
- 15:47It was kind of a little bit of a mixed bag of everything, which
- 15:49was kind of odd. Like usually, if somebody is
- 15:51injured, he looks like he's injured and there were a couple
- 15:54times where he was hopping around after a play.
- 15:56Especially, I think there was one, throw down the sideline on
- 16:00a fade to Rambo that he got called for PID, came up limping
- 16:03right after that. So I don't know if he's just not
- 16:07quite there and some some of that's best in with his mental,
- 16:11but he's getting beaten, a bunch of different ways. is that is
- 16:17Can I say this? Yeah, I think mental, you said
- 16:20it their mental. And if you think about the first
- 16:22big play of the game for Miami that it was a 30, it was the 39
- 16:25yard or two Rambo, he played. Absolutely perfect coverage.
- 16:29It was just a perfectly thrown ball in a perfect catch.
- 16:33Yeah, down the right. Sideline and my question kind of
- 16:37goes back, go back to yourself. You're playing, you play a
- 16:41perfect technique, play Everything.
- 16:43Perfect. And some guy just gets you
- 16:45beats. You sexy quarterback.
- 16:47Yeah. In that first play.
- 16:49I mean, I mean that was literally early in the game.
- 16:54Can that be one of those things that's just in your head, the
- 16:57rest of the game and then you awkwardly, you know, step on
- 17:00your foot and the mental part of Well they've already hit me.
- 17:04I'm already played perfect coverage.
- 17:05I stepped on my foot wrong. That doesn't feel right.
- 17:08I got a pi call. The next thing.
- 17:10You know it's all up here and I'm the coach's job too good for
- 17:15this has been kind of going on the last couple weeks, though,
- 17:17because he had what three Pi is against Duke.
- 17:21He wasn't great. I know some of those were one
- 17:28legit Pia to. I get that, I get that but It,
- 17:33you know, some of this have been, he's had some rough games,
- 17:37the last three weeks, this is just happen to be the one where
- 17:41we couldn't, there was a quarterback and a receiver that
- 17:44can make him pay for it. And and it happened.
- 17:48And you know, it's sad to say, like I said, I don't know if
- 17:51this is just one or two bad plays and the mental spilling
- 17:56over into the physical that definitely can happen, you know,
- 18:00the whole thing, don't let one bad play.
- 18:02Beat you twice. It seems to be kind of the the,
- 18:05the thread here. But he wasn't the only one that
- 18:08was struggling out there in the secondary.
- 18:11We had obviously early, we lost, we lost a daily.
- 18:15So we ended up kind of having to go different directions in the
- 18:19safety area there. So that's two fold, right?
- 18:23So, Not only are you having to have another guy on there for
- 18:27more snaps, but you're not able to give them as many as many
- 18:31blows either. So, is many blows.
- 18:33We taught the targeting real quick.
- 18:35Yeah, and I watched the pit, you be a game second one.
- 18:40Same way, it was shoulder. It was no ill intent, it was no
- 18:44real pardoning. It was just one of those things.
- 18:47I'm going to throw my shoulder into him.
- 18:48Is it got down to my shoulder level?
- 18:51If you want, what do we always say?
- 18:54We go back again. This is what the went.
- 18:56They said and this is actually, do you want to call that a
- 18:5915-yard penalty? Sure, right.
- 19:03Hey, that's fine. A hit to the Head.
- 19:06Fine essentially, may God's goal or ejections for that.
- 19:11It's bullshit. And it's got to somehow get
- 19:13fixed in the next year or so, Tay daily and the kid from pit
- 19:18should have never been off the field.
- 19:19In those games, I'm going to say Say something wild almost like
- 19:22something. Wild here.
- 19:24I want the referee to have discretion as to whether
- 19:28something is intentional or not and that can be the
- 19:30differentiating factor between an arc between what between
- 19:34ejection and just unnecessary roughness.
- 19:39And the reason I say that is because we've gotten to a point
- 19:45where You're losing players that all they did were was making a
- 19:51football play. Yeah, no ill intent.
- 19:54No launching, no headhunting, just trying to make like, this
- 19:58is a guy trying to just put a strong shoulder into a guy, to
- 20:01finish off a tackle, and all of a sudden he drops his head.
- 20:05And there's a, there's a new Zone there and the defender
- 20:08can't change. I mean, it's a bang.
- 20:10Bang, play. The Defender has zero time to
- 20:13recognize what's happening? And it should because I think
- 20:18that did hurt us on the back end.
- 20:22Because how early was that in the game?
- 20:25I'm trying to look through my notes Here, second Drive.
- 20:28I think it was 73 when that happened, I think.
- 20:34And get my notes Here. Yeah, guys.
- 20:37We keep notes. Believe it or not?
- 20:40I'm nerdy. We are because it wasn't the
- 20:43first drive. Now, I'm pretty sure it was the
- 20:46second drive. If it wasn't was the third
- 20:54Either way, either way it was garbage, it was garbage and it
- 21:01definitely hurt us, especially on the back end.
- 21:03It's experiences. Take daily in putting more
- 21:05inexperienced guys. In.
- 21:06All right. Other thing Brown, you talked
- 21:09about was keep behind the sticks and and I'm going to say this
- 21:14when we did, keep them behind the sticks, they struggled and
- 21:19that was a way. I in the third quarter and early
- 21:22part of the fourth that we got back in this game because of
- 21:26that, but still the money stops. You know, 7 for 13, including
- 21:35the fourth down. Stop that wasn't a stop.
- 21:37So they were over, you know, over fifty percent.
- 21:40So Even though it was critical. What are you graded?
- 21:50I mean d.c. - maybe I'm gonna go see - you know it depends on how
- 21:57much credit you want to give them for the fourth down.
- 21:59That wasn't think that's whether you go see your D here overall
- 22:04it wasn't bad and I think some of it we've benefited from you
- 22:08that period you know, late second into the majority of the
- 22:12third quarter where they weren't able to just sling it deep
- 22:16because some of the weather there.
- 22:18So we've The fitted from that and that I think that kind of
- 22:22stacks the the great a little bit there for us.
- 22:25So it could have been much worse potentially if they were able to
- 22:29play their game the whole time you guys.
- 22:33But yeah about to keep him behind the sticks.
- 22:37Do you think? I'm going to say this was
- 22:40jehan's worst game, he called how many times we were in the
- 22:44wrong coverage for the potential because it seemed like, every
- 22:47time we were getting big deep downfield.
- 22:50I feel like a couple times. It was like cover to a couple
- 22:53times. It was like a cover one.
- 22:55We're playing straight man. And you always mentioned you
- 22:59like quarters recovered three look especially against
- 23:02downfield passing teams because Delta passing teams having those
- 23:07guys back. 15 20 yards, he has to anticipate right?
- 23:11Yep. Why was hand mixing it?
- 23:15I know on the Harley play. The Cub the touchdown we were in
- 23:20cover two. And I asked you earlier about
- 23:25this so kind of give your explanation it should have been
- 23:27a touchdown, but should we have really been in cover two?
- 23:32I mean, we're uncovered to occasionally.
- 23:34We, we usually mix it with the cover to man under look, which I
- 23:38would have been okay with there because at least you would
- 23:41probably not have Dax matched up on a parlor here as they
- 23:46essentially. So so dax's responsibility is is
- 23:49to carry up the seam as deep as he can and in this case he did a
- 23:56pretty good job of limiting the space underneath to throw that
- 24:01The problem is that there's supposed to be another safety on
- 24:05top of it, but Jenkins got caught looking in the backfield
- 24:08and was chasing the play. Instead of being on top of the
- 24:12the route there and so he was out of position to be able to
- 24:17come up there. That's a play that was probably
- 24:20going to be a 30-yard Gainer anyway but it turned into a
- 24:23touchdown because Jenkins was out of position.
- 24:27All right. Like I said I would have
- 24:29preferred more of that man under Look, I would prefer to us to
- 24:33once we realize they were slinging it all night.
- 24:35Go into a true nickel and while essentially have artists out
- 24:41there with with Connor and index off the field, not know knock
- 24:47and acts but artist is now our best run linebacker keep him on
- 24:53there and then then roll out. Connor at the backer and then
- 24:57get your extra corners on the field there.
- 25:01That would have been what I would have done, it would have
- 25:03helped somewhat. But again, we were still in
- 25:08coverages at wrong times, we were still blowing coverages
- 25:11blowing assignments, it was kind of a mixed bag of everything
- 25:15that could possibly go wrong in the secondary true and it all
- 25:19happened in one game, it did. And you talk about blown
- 25:23coverage is something else. You made a big point of on
- 25:26Wednesday night. Was we've got to make them
- 25:27settle for three. Will they got down there four
- 25:30times? We only held them.
- 25:31The three once on two of the touchdowns it was absolutely
- 25:35blown coverages. The one to the tight end
- 25:40Mallory. Somebody completely vacated that
- 25:43side, am are eroding up. There was no one there so once
- 25:47he got by Mari and there's no one vacating that whoever was
- 25:50supposed to be back there vacated The Zone, it was an easy
- 25:53pitch for Van Dyke and then the other one, I know you talked
- 25:56about Keshawn artist on the other touchdown, close to the
- 25:59goal line, he blew It was a little play-action fake.
- 26:02He stuck his head in right outside.
- 26:05He, it was in his own. You could tell it was and that's
- 26:11you say what you want to say. If I can't go back and say,
- 26:15well, if they had been in there, right Zone?
- 26:18Does it result in three? Not seven, don't know.
- 26:23But it gets hard to say the Mallory play was interesting
- 26:26because you had, you had two guys there and it looked like it
- 26:30was I think whoever had the the curls own was playing a little
- 26:38too shallow and then Waller got in no man's land where he could
- 26:41decide. If he was going to stay deep to
- 26:44make sure he didn't let something Creek behind him or
- 26:46come up, and get Mallory. And by the time, he decided to
- 26:49come and get Mallory was too, late way too late.
- 26:52And that was on a, that was on a field side blitz.
- 26:56So your best pass rusher in bar. No, is riding up now.
- 27:00Hurry up the sidelines in that case, right?
- 27:03Yep. Yeah.
- 27:06And like I said, I'd have to look at the tape again to see
- 27:09who had that other that other part of the Zone there.
- 27:12But yeah, Walter got kind of in, no man's land and just didn't
- 27:16make the right choice there. I think if he realized that
- 27:20there wasn't anyone, coming across the field behind him.
- 27:24He would have probably came up and made a play.
- 27:26Probably could have had a pic if he, you know, recognize the the
- 27:29route on time. But, you know, I think he was
- 27:32thinking too much on that one. Very true.
- 27:35All right, Brian. So overall defense it was just
- 27:38not a good night for those guys regardless they had their
- 27:43moments that dead us, get back into it but essentially they
- 27:46gave up another couple late that essentially put the game away
- 27:49from Miami. Let's let's go to another unit
- 27:53that had been the best unit. We've had all year our special
- 27:57teams unit as far as it goes. For the return coverages.
- 28:01I mean definitely their worst 86 yards on kickoff.
- 28:05Turn 65 on punt, returns, and mean that's 150 plus yards.
- 28:12That is a ton of field position with a defense that's
- 28:15struggling. And it looked like just to me,
- 28:22not really. It wasn't like really bad play
- 28:26that play calls. You only have so many it.
- 28:28Look, just like terrible technique and terrible leverage.
- 28:31Every single time. Yeah, there was one, the big,
- 28:36the one long kickoff. Looks like guy got out of got of
- 28:41his Lane, got blocked a little bit and it just opened up there
- 28:45was a crease there. We have one that thankfully got
- 28:49called back. It was an awful night for the
- 28:54coverage, man. I just think that for something
- 28:58that's been a strength, all year.
- 29:00It's odd to see that that breakdown.
- 29:03And I don't know if it was leveraged, I don't know if it
- 29:05was you know some of it was leverage.
- 29:08Some of it could have been. All right.
- 29:10You got the element you're dealing with that.
- 29:11But I mean everybody else is dealing with that too.
- 29:13Yeah. You can't really use that as an
- 29:15excuse. You just got to go out there and
- 29:18try to do better next time. Well, after the first punt
- 29:21return. Turn.
- 29:22Yeah, that was the sealer right there.
- 29:24Yeah, sorry, it's okay. Herbert Herbert to Eckler and
- 29:31steel, bronze fate. Sorry, bud.
- 29:35But the first punt return. Like, we have the guy trap and
- 29:39for some reason, They can't remember the number, but the guy
- 29:44seems to step left and I'm sitting like why are you
- 29:46stepping left? Right is all of the open field.
- 29:50All you need to do is step right?
- 29:52And force them back up inside. At least he's going towards the
- 29:54sideline, he stepped left. He went right around.
- 29:57And next, it was a 40-yard game and they were already having
- 30:01success. So, you know, you gotta
- 30:04understand where your Leverage is, and where your help is.
- 30:07And that's an instance of missing both.
- 30:10Now, I would I would find it Interesting, you know, to see
- 30:14how many younger guys. If this was one of those things
- 30:17where well it's late in the season we need to start gluing
- 30:22some guys, some PT, you know, essentially they're not that
- 30:25weird. They're going to even if we go
- 30:27to a bowl game, they're going to get their red shirt.
- 30:29So I wonder if that was part of it, I might look back on some of
- 30:34the condensed versions. See if we can find out who they
- 30:37were on those and see if it was, maybe lesser Not lesser skilled
- 30:43guys. But lesser got guys with lesser
- 30:45PT on the field less experienced, folks.
- 30:50Yeah, Special Teams. You.
- 30:51Yeah, it could be I tend to unless it's somebody that I
- 30:55recognized right off. I tend to not pay a ton of to of
- 30:58attention to who's making the plays on special teams as long
- 31:02as they are made, especially on some of those coverages just
- 31:07because you don't see quite as many Star.
- 31:11There's all those units. Absolutely sorry, brother.
- 31:16Let's flip over to the offense. Now, we're rolling here about 30
- 31:19minutes, deep, let's talk about the rushing offense.
- 31:22If you had had to go somewhere, didn't get to see the game.
- 31:25But I texted, you Braun 43, rushing 227 yards over five.
- 31:31Carry the seems good, right? That seems about what I was
- 31:34hoping for in the game. But then if I told you, well,
- 31:38Thomas got seven carries raheen Got Two Carries The ACC running
- 31:42back of the week last week. Got to carries Keshawn King got
- 31:47to carries. And then I told you blumrich and
- 31:50Bebe. Got blumrich 30 bb10.
- 31:54Tell me what would be in your mind?
- 31:56And what would you want to do to certain people?
- 32:00Yeah, this is a big problem. So let's talk about a few things
- 32:08because there there's, there's layers to this, right?
- 32:11Well, it's a little like it. It's so, and I'm good with
- 32:14plumber, getting out there. And the way that we started, the
- 32:17game plumber CAD packages that he was coming in.
- 32:21There was like, you know, the wild turkey.
- 32:24There was some other, the other things that he was doing just
- 32:27straight quarterback sweeps, quarterback leads, you know,
- 32:31there's a handful of things that they were throwing out there
- 32:33just to mix it up and Not use BB on a ton of these design runs
- 32:41LED BB if he's going to run be a scramble drill or something like
- 32:46that. And BB had a couple big runs.
- 32:48Early 11, pretty big one where it looked like as fast as I've
- 32:55seen him run that, that was what I he's shown speed, but I didn't
- 33:02really appreciate how fast he could really be until that play.
- 33:06But we just Had we haven't seen enough of that consistently just
- 33:09because he's been pretty much banged up.
- 33:12I mean, kind of since week one. Right.
- 33:15He had a little little nicked in that game.
- 33:17He's been a little Nick's since then it's been ribs.
- 33:22It's been a little hand. It's been like, it's been a
- 33:26little bit of everything right shoulder.
- 33:29So but then we ended up just 30 carries by our quarterbacks.
- 33:39I just I don't know what to do with that.
- 33:40I get that there was we got to a point where BB was nicked again
- 33:45and you got blumrich. So you know you're going to get
- 33:48you know, the Notre Dame game plan script from that point on
- 33:51you know that we saw a couple years back.
- 33:54We QP you're going to get that type of script but not giving it
- 33:59to the running back since the baffling part, it's one thing.
- 34:01If you're devoting yourself to the run, it's completely
- 34:04different. If you're just using your
- 34:06quarterbacks as bad, Battering rams, which is just what we did.
- 34:10Yeah. And the problem I have with that
- 34:13is that if you look at some of the other things is that it
- 34:16created other problems for the offensive line and there was
- 34:19some trickle down there. So let's go ahead and talk about
- 34:23that. And I know we have it in a
- 34:26different order, but I'm going to leave with this, the Caden
- 34:28more pull sack, some of that is set up directly because we were
- 34:35not using our Our running backs. So, so if you're is, if you're
- 34:40covering a read option or any sort of quarterback Rush the
- 34:44where there's an option for the quarterback to give primarily
- 34:47you're going to use, either a squeeze or a pop technique.
- 34:50You're going to either squeeze to kind of slow play it.
- 34:52Make the quarterback make a choice.
- 34:57And then you want to try to get them to keep it.
- 34:59So you can come up, make the play or pop it.
- 35:02You're going to essentially attack the mesh Point, either
- 35:05you're going to make the quarterback, give it or you're
- 35:06there to make it make a tackle. Well, once they saw, we weren't
- 35:10handing the ball to the running back.
- 35:12It was pop all day. They were going right at the
- 35:14mesh point every single time. Every time there was no waiting.
- 35:20There was no, there was none of that.
- 35:22No. Hesitant I'm going right at the
- 35:24quarterback and he's either. Going to give it because it's
- 35:27smart where I'm going to get me a big play in the backfield.
- 35:31And though in the backfield and here's one where we got it, we
- 35:34got a counteraction counter play action on a on a pass and
- 35:39Cadence pulling across the formation to essentially block.
- 35:44The guy that would normally be a read and a read option.
- 35:48But he's already thinking all right with this is a
- 35:50read-option. I'm attacking the mesh point,
- 35:52he's flying up field. He's five yards up field before
- 35:55Caden even gets into the position there.
- 35:58So it's not so much. That that play can't work or
- 36:02that scheme, can't work. But in this situation, and I'll
- 36:06critique Kayden here, a little bit, probably a bad, bad step a
- 36:10little bit slow getting across there, but it's made worse by
- 36:14the fact that, that, that defensive end is flying up
- 36:18filled already. It was, it was worse than
- 36:21because they already knew tendency, right?
- 36:24Yeah. Tendency was, they're not giving
- 36:27it, he's going to keep it. So I'm just going to fly off.
- 36:31And if he gives it a oh well they're down in the game, it was
- 36:36just like it's this whole thing that again, this offensive
- 36:41coordinator cannot grasp. In that case, if you start
- 36:46giving it more up the middle or even on those the beers we saw,
- 36:52you will make them have to start thinking again because Malachi
- 36:56Thomas or Rahim blacks year or even key Chongqing, you make the
- 37:01wrong mistake on them and they get the scene, it's a house call
- 37:06it's 40 or 50 yards, if they had no fear of it, they got the ball
- 37:10seven times, they got the ball. Basically 12%.
- 37:16No team is going to be scared of the running backs if you're
- 37:19giving them 12 percent especially a guy like Rahim that
- 37:23does better with volume and Malachi does better with volume
- 37:27as well. They do you get them more
- 37:28carries they are more consistent so you got kind of essentially
- 37:33cold backs at this point right back to them.
- 37:36Either been blocking most of the game or having been on the field
- 37:39or been decoys. Yeah.
- 37:41Like so like Essentially carried your offense since Notre Dame,
- 37:51right? Yep, since Notre Dame or decoys
- 37:56in a game, you need to get Bowl eligible on the road.
- 38:00Yeah, somebody doesn't want a job after this.
- 38:03Somebody doesn't want a job. Somebody's looking at Nathan
- 38:07Hale, with, with a big grin right now.
- 38:09He's like, all right, I'll be there next year.
- 38:11Yeah. Hey, five years here at 500
- 38:14thousand dollars out. Is my money, let's the passing
- 38:19offense, you know, it wasn't help.
- 38:21We did give up for sex. We had six tackle, they had six
- 38:24tackles for loss ugly, stat line to me.
- 38:30Ugly passes 19, 428 148, three, touchdown passes.
- 38:35All of them were right at the goal line, and just some of the
- 38:39ugliest freaking passes, it was raining.
- 38:43Yes. But they were still Ugly.
- 38:45I don't care what anybody says, I'm with you.
- 38:47And I mean, so let's start with one thing.
- 38:50The offensive line didn't have the greatest night in pass, bro.
- 38:54It wasn't awful, but it was one of their definitely in the lower
- 38:5850% of their effort this year. That was compounded a little bit
- 39:02by a lot of the things that we're going on behind the line
- 39:05of scrimmage with the quarterback situation.
- 39:08And as you said, 19 2848, three touchdowns a lot of that was
- 39:15About three plays two of which were to sorry, one of which was
- 39:21to Trey Turner that get injured on and really if Trey Turner
- 39:30doesn't make two plays and then you've got some of the other
- 39:35younger guys that were going to talk about a little bit.
- 39:37Making a couple of plays that stat line going to be been even
- 39:40worse. I sat like them, like these
- 39:42weren't routine catches. Ladies and gentlemen, this this
- 39:45This was pulling the rabbit at your head a little bit.
- 39:48That's that line. Legitimately could have been 15
- 39:51for 28, maybe 85 yards. Maybe somewhere somewhere,
- 39:58thereabouts, maybe 100, maybe, 150, go back and do the math.
- 40:03It wouldn't have been over 150. I know that.
- 40:06No, but let me ask this Brian. You were going into UVA next
- 40:12week. You mentioned that you about
- 40:18Connor, you mean that ugly screen pass.
- 40:20Good Lord, he threw that thing right into the dirt, but as it
- 40:24is, he is even better chance on the ball.
- 40:28So, I'll say this, you talk about the one in the dirt, but
- 40:31then he talked about when Brax was in there.
- 40:33He sailed one about 10 yards above tase head, so I don't know
- 40:38which is worse. Neither were catchable unless
- 40:43you were in the immediate vicinity Sanity of the
- 40:45quarterback. So I'll tell you the one thing
- 40:51that blumrich does is that he does throw a ball more than 15
- 40:56yards, downfield, that gives our receivers a chance to make a
- 40:59play on it. He does that better than
- 41:02Braxton. What Braxton has is.
- 41:04He has accuracy in the short game when he's able to have a
- 41:10clean pocket step into it, make a good throw.
- 41:14He doesn't have the arm strength to do anything beyond that.
- 41:17He doesn't throw the out very good.
- 41:20He's got to drive it. He doesn't throw a good deep
- 41:24ball, he doesn't really do a good job of attacking the middle
- 41:29of the field. So, you know, maybe blumrich as
- 41:33sad as it is to say gives us the better chance because he does
- 41:36put a ball up there down the field that gives our receivers a
- 41:39chance to do something with it. Maybe we stick with him just
- 41:45because he is also the more durable quarterback.
- 41:50If we are going to stick with running our quarterbacks this
- 41:53much in the UVA game as well, it can times.
- 41:56Yeah, it'll be it'll be I'm sure Monday.
- 42:01Presser something will be asked about that so it'll be sort of
- 42:05mind-blowing. We've got, you know, 76 days
- 42:09roughly give or take you mentioned it earlier a little
- 42:12bit of you. Movement on probably counter
- 42:16bluemix best thrown ball downfield, Dwayne Lofton.
- 42:20He gave him a chance and Duane caught it.
- 42:23Yeah. And I mean that was that's a
- 42:26tough throw and he put it where only Lofton could get it and
- 42:32Lofton winning got it. Yes he did full extension.
- 42:36It was it was probably one of the two best plays the night and
- 42:40Trey Turner had the other one on the The catch it at the goal,
- 42:45line there for the touchdown, very vintage Odell Beckham jr.
- 42:52Esque. But, but we also had Jalen
- 42:56Jones, get a big catch on a dig across the middle where he took
- 43:02a big pop after the catch. So you know, those two guys
- 43:07getting involved in the passing game is Big I'd like to see more
- 43:11of that. I'm sad that we Didn't see more
- 43:14earlier in the season, especially for the fact that,
- 43:17I'm pretty sure this point, lofton's shirts, burnt despite
- 43:21not really getting a whole lot of actual targets, right?
- 43:26I want to say he, I want to say he's played in at least four at
- 43:29this point. Give me a second here, while I'm
- 43:35looking that up, Brian, let me ask this, give me the overall
- 43:39assessment of the offensive coordinator.
- 43:42Tell me. Tell me right now.
- 43:45Like you know, he's coaching for his future and I know where
- 43:51We've joked about it but let's be serious right now.
- 43:54I mean, is he going D to best at best at best at best?
- 44:00I can't see him getting a coordinator job.
- 44:03Like he's not going to get any decent FCS coordinator job.
- 44:11At all. I mean he's just like his only
- 44:14hope is for one day gets a G5 job in hires and I mean the
- 44:20thing is that the the Secret's out on him at this point.
- 44:22This isn't this isn't a guy that's having a bad run or a guy
- 44:26that doesn't have the talent rate.
- 44:29This is a guy that has shown who he is what he is.
- 44:33We've got guys on the record saying what he does.
- 44:38Yeah, you know the only thing that he As well at this point,
- 44:42is misdirection with motion. That's it.
- 44:51You get to you. Get to the linebackers eyes
- 44:53moving in the wrong direction on occasion.
- 44:55Okay. Good for you dictate where the
- 44:59balls going to go eventually. You don't think they can.
- 45:03You don't think these guys who are coached and watch a ton of
- 45:05tape, say the coaches on the sidelines, when you see this
- 45:09play happen, just go just go with this guy.
- 45:11Why? Because homeboy over there is
- 45:13going to tell them to give it to this guy.
- 45:14There's not going to be every or or tell him not to, you know, a
- 45:17lot of times it's either. Sometimes the the window
- 45:20dressing gives away the play and then sometimes the window
- 45:22dressing, you just need to ignore.
- 45:25And once you figured out what window dressing to pay attention
- 45:27to and which ones to ignore the, the Secret's out, very true
- 45:32Braun. Alright Braun.
- 45:34You know, before we get into looking at some coaching
- 45:38candidates for the Virginia Tech job guys, we like we told you
- 45:42Wednesday, we did a bunch on this.
- 45:45We are going to take a quick pause from our digital partners.
- 45:50If you take a quick break, we like to tell you about getting

- 46:13Now back to the episode Alright guys, so we have made a list of
- 46:21close to 15 guys and we made a list of no chance and he'll and
- 46:29we made a list of one guy we want, but would probably get.
- 46:33So we're going to start with the Ford our courses.
- 46:36There's been some rumors of these guys.
- 46:38We just in hindsight we can't see any of these guys actually
- 46:42accepting this job or us offering the job.
- 46:45Job and those are these four as follows.
- 46:48Byron Leftwich Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator
- 46:52Bill O'Brien, the OC at Alabama for an NFL head.
- 46:54Coach Hugh freeze at Liberty and Brent pry, who's the defensive
- 46:59coordinator up at Penn State? I'd say two of these.
- 47:05We probably will, at least contact how far we get the
- 47:09process. I don't know, I'd say Bill
- 47:11O'Brien and Brent pry, or more of A four or more likely to get
- 47:18into the process here? I don't know, I don't know what
- 47:22you what your opinion is on that.
- 47:24But that would be the two that I would say, have a better chance
- 47:26in the Dark Horse category here. Yeah, yeah, I'm with you on
- 47:29that. I don't know.
- 47:30A lot of people, I got text about Buddy last night.
- 47:32Like Hugh freeze like we're not hiring Hugh, freeze Hugh.
- 47:36Freeze has a stain on him that I don't think our Administration
- 47:43ill will go for Or I just don't think, I think it would be a
- 47:48good hire. I don't think that Virginia Tech
- 47:51goes that route. If, for whatever reason, whether
- 47:54it's, Which choice, whether it's, you know, guys on the
- 47:57board of visitors that aren't willing to sign that check or
- 48:02sign off on that, there's going to be pressure from for multiple
- 48:06levels to probably not give you freeze the look.
- 48:09He probably deserves and that's just you called that a fit
- 48:14Choice. Whatever it Is.
- 48:15I mean, some of it is, is being able to fit into that that type
- 48:21of parameters. So if you got a guy that's
- 48:25that's budding against your board of visitors, every couple
- 48:29months that's probably not a good thing.
- 48:32So that's probably why it's not going to happen.
- 48:35Like I said, I think he if it was my choice and I mean, being
- 48:41he'd be in my top five. So, But now I'm going to say
- 48:47this though, with LSU already being open and now Florida
- 48:50coming, open put Dan Mullen as a dark horse to.
- 48:52It's just later in the process, but I think now he has his
- 48:59sights on two programs. And I'm not saying they don't
- 49:01care about what happened before but it's less like you listen we
- 49:08don't really care. We just want to win 85 to 90% of
- 49:11the time and compete for championships.
- 49:14So there Our I just mentioned five Dark Horses.
- 49:18They're there on our minds we just can't see them going any
- 49:21further. But let's start with the first
- 49:24name here. Brian.
- 49:25I'm going to do the program. Will do the cons have little
- 49:27back and forth. Mike Elko Texas, A&M defensive
- 49:30coordinator couple of his prose y'all.
- 49:34He had been with Dave place. And previously had two very
- 49:37successful students with Clausen before he went up to Notre Dame
- 49:40and Texas A&M much bigger time programs.
- 49:44He does have Obviously some ties to the state of Virginia
- 49:47recruiting being at Richmond with Clawson and then being at
- 49:52Wake Forest his defense is always been good.
- 49:56Like he's never had like the worst defense in the country.
- 50:01Obviously, it's gotten better looks as he has gotten more
- 50:04Talent, especially Notre Dame for a few years.
- 50:08And again, being at Wake Forest, they had some solid defense has
- 50:13obviously has a little bit of Player Development to go along
- 50:16with his good recruiting Yeah, and for the cons, the big thing
- 50:22we're looking at is really no head coach experience, that's
- 50:25out. The gate is going to be the big
- 50:26one, and that might be the one thing that keeps him off with
- 50:31its radar. I know he said that he's not
- 50:35shying away from guys that have only been coordinators, but he
- 50:40also is, you know, he said the power 5 job in the ACC being
- 50:46your first head coaching gig is going to be a tough jump.
- 50:48So I think he's only going to look at a coordinator.
- 50:53If it's absolutely 100%, the guy he wants or the guy that he
- 50:58thinks is going to be the best fit.
- 51:01So that's kind of where we are with with the cons and you know,
- 51:04we got another one here. Most recruiting success has been
- 51:07in Texas and that's really the big thing.
- 51:10When you look at his recruiting numbers and the guys that he's
- 51:14pulled, most of those big recruits have been in Texas.
- 51:16We know how that's Or he goes in terms of how that relates to
- 51:21Blacksburg, you know, you can pull one or two.
- 51:24It's not something where you can build a pipeline and he really,
- 51:29you know, in terms of being on the the head coaching radar, he
- 51:33really hasn't been on that that radar until some of the success
- 51:37recently at a.m. and then you previously at Notre Dame's.
- 51:40So Elko is really kind of a new face in terms of being on the
- 51:46head coaching radar. I don't know if that's
- 51:47necessarily something that would shot folks away from it, but it
- 51:50is something to look at there. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:54When you balance is pros and cons, would it be?
- 51:57Would we be throwing things and on the drive to Miriam and to
- 52:01pick it? No, we will.
- 52:02And I think you'd be an okay higher but I but I definitely
- 52:05think we can do better. I do think Elko is on the verge
- 52:11of probably the next Two years. He's going to get a head
- 52:16coaching job. I do not think he will get a big
- 52:19P5 job. I think he will have to land
- 52:21somewhere like a Wake Forest like a Syracuse and build his
- 52:27ilk from there. Yeah.
- 52:29If he's going to go power 5, probably the bottom end, you
- 52:32know, maybe maybe even Duke if that comes open.
- 52:37No, not that. I wouldn't want it either.
- 52:39I'm just saying he might take it anyway.
- 52:43Yeah, I'm kind of with you there.
- 52:45I think the big thing with Elko is that, you know, we don't know
- 52:49a whole lot in terms of what that what he would look like as
- 52:52a head coach. And I think that's something
- 52:53that unless he's got, he checks a whole lot of other boxes that
- 52:58might be the thing that holds him back.
- 53:00Absolutely. So let's go ahead and move on
- 53:03to. We'll talk next about Josh
- 53:05Gaddis. Some of the pros for Josh Gad is
- 53:10he was born in played in the region so that that's, that's a
- 53:15big thing for him. He's had some big stops in his
- 53:18career, big stops throughout his career.
- 53:22He was an NFL draft pick and player.
- 53:25So having that NFL experience, definitely adds to the pedigree
- 53:29there has some experience in Mid-Atlantic recruiting And he
- 53:35was the recruiting coordinator at Penn State.
- 53:37So I think that's really when you look at the overall body of
- 53:41work there, some pretty good things to talk about, what are
- 53:46some of the cons on Gaddis there?
- 53:47Curtis it goddess. Michigan OC.
- 53:50You know, first of all it's the one, the next shower.
- 53:52And a kind of cart seeing a trend here.
- 53:54He has no head coaching experience at any level.
- 53:59Here's my biggest con what we mean by we're talking about us.
- 54:03When Mike's locksley got his But Maryland, he and Gaddis were
- 54:07Colo seeds. When locksley got the job, he
- 54:11was not internally promoted immediately to hit offensive
- 54:15coordinator and essentially when that happened, you know, he
- 54:22left, he went up to Michigan and since he's been at Michigan,
- 54:25it's taken a little bit of time to, you know, kind of kind of
- 54:33show exactly what he's all about.
- 54:36You know, he's been at Michigan now.
- 54:39This This his third season they were is okay.
- 54:42In 2019, they didn't look great. Last year, they're finally
- 54:45hidden strides this year, biggest test this weekend,
- 54:48against Ohio State, and this is one.
- 54:52I always talk about. He's only ever coached Elite
- 54:56Talent as a. No.
- 54:57See. And when you start coaching
- 55:00guys, at that level, Is it, is it some of what you say and do
- 55:06helps you? But when you have the best
- 55:08players for near the top of the best players at every single
- 55:13position as an offensive coordinator, Some things it's
- 55:17just like, you know, I hate to say there's something like well,
- 55:21let's just run a power over, right?
- 55:2437-yard touchdown. Yay, great call.
- 55:27Now that's deployers so, you know, if he's hired you feel
- 55:37like, you know, probably haven't seen any interviews with Josh
- 55:42cow so you probably feel he probably got a good personality.
- 55:45Leti where he recruits, but I think he's one of those jobs if
- 55:53he continues to do good in Michigan.
- 55:55If they, if they beat Ohio State next week and they go to the
- 55:59playoffs, I think he will get a solid head coaching job
- 56:03somewhere. Yeah, I agree.
- 56:07I think. with Gatos, he's probably one of the more under
- 56:15the radar coordinators that's made our list here.
- 56:19I would say, I think he is getting a lot of good.
- 56:23Looks some of that is, you know, because he was born and played
- 56:25in the region. And I think some of that is just
- 56:28his overall pedigree and then the couple big stops with Penn
- 56:31State and out at Michigan that he's had, you know, Bama in
- 56:35there as well. So you will see if he ends up
- 56:39staying on the radar as we kind of Move Along here.
- 56:43True. So who's up next buddy up?
- 56:46Next Marcus Freeman. Defensive coordinator had a
- 56:50Notre Dame, you know, his prose wherever he's been at.
- 56:56He's shown the ability to recruit.
- 56:59Good players. And it's it's something that
- 57:02sticks because he was at Purdue. He was at Cincinnati.
- 57:06If you've ever seen him speak and I got to watch a video, his
- 57:12personality, it will blow you away here in the sky.
- 57:15Talk about his philosophy about players.
- 57:20You go to YouTube, just find a market screaming interview and
- 57:24that will partially sell you on why he's above, you know, a few
- 57:29other guys who had a little bit more timely programs.
- 57:32Yeah, he wins player at Ohio State.
- 57:37What he's done, it's in C and Notre Dame.
- 57:39Last few years that's that's something its culture, right?
- 57:45Winning culture is a thing. They haven't given up a
- 57:49touchdown in the last three weeks ever know they haven't,
- 57:52they haven't even touchdown. Now, the other thing I like
- 57:55about him and again it goes back to this being where he is now at
- 58:01Notre Dame with the Elite Talent like guy like Kyle Hamilton, but
- 58:05he was at Cincinnati where he had to develop guys.
- 58:08So he's showing you that combination that to me is, why
- 58:13hit some had coaches? Do so well, which will about
- 58:16Nick Saban. He has a ton of four and five.
- 58:18Star guys, but you also see three star guys coming there and
- 58:21make impacts right. He knows how to fix the elite,
- 58:25he knows how to coach Developmental and to me to be a
- 58:29top, 15 top 20 program, that's a balance, you have to have
- 58:32someone. We just mentioned, I don't think
- 58:34Dan Mullen knows how to do that down in Florida.
- 58:37That's why you got fired. I think Dan knows how to coach
- 58:40developmental Talent. He hasn't found a strive for the
- 58:45Elite Talent guys. I think he I think he can
- 58:47consistently recruit top 30 classes, but he has to do more
- 58:51of the on the development side. He's not a guy that can take,
- 58:56he's not a guy that can get Florida, the classes.
- 58:58They should be able to get but he also doesn't know how to
- 59:02handle those guys once they get in the door either.
- 59:04Absolutely. All right, Brian.
- 59:05Let's look as much as we just. I just drooled all over Freeman.
- 59:11There are some cons there. Yeah, I mean the big one.
- 59:14This is still consistent is going to be consistent with
- 59:16every coordinator that hasn't had a head coach experiences
- 59:19that no head coach experience at this point.
- 59:22So any any We're taking on Freeman.
- 59:24Will have that risk associated with it.
- 59:27That's just going to be something.
- 59:28We're going to have to potentially deal with and the
- 59:32second one being he's only been at one place where he's had big
- 59:36expectations and that's where he's at now and he's only been
- 59:39there, you know, 90% of one season.
- 59:45So That's, that's interesting angle there.
- 59:50Just because you know, while since he had expectations for a
- 59:55G5 school, you know this wasn't make the playoffs type
- 1:00:00expectations. He's at he's at a place now
- 1:00:02where the expectations to make the playoff and he's showing out
- 1:00:06thus far. But this is really, you know, a
- 1:00:10very small sample size at this point and the last one being
- 1:00:14he's only really ever coached in the Upper Midwest.
- 1:00:17We talked about Purdue Cincy. Notre Dame obviously has OSU
- 1:00:23ties there so in state. Yeah, Indiana that's it.
- 1:00:28So high. Oh, state is the closest he's
- 1:00:32ever been to the Mid-Atlantic and again, that's another cell.
- 1:00:40But again I think my positive listen to him talk.
- 1:00:44I think that guy could walk into any The Mid-Atlantic household
- 1:00:49and silica ball program. Yeah, and we've seen and we've
- 1:00:52seen it done. I mean, he's got some once he
- 1:00:55started it. A lot of was sensing a lot
- 1:00:57especially now with Notre Dame. He's recruiting players from all
- 1:01:00over the country and he's having success wherever he's
- 1:01:02recruiting. So I don't think the recruiting
- 1:01:05part of it is necessarily a problem and I don't necessarily
- 1:01:10think that will have a problem in terms of the fit in terms of
- 1:01:17His personality. Whereas in Puente some of you
- 1:01:21know Oklahoma Texas type demeanor, rub some wrong way.
- 1:01:29I don't think you'll have that with Freeman even though he's
- 1:01:31not necessarily a regional guy. Yeah.
- 1:01:35So those are the cons for Freeman.
- 1:01:38I feel really good about Freeman Freeman, is probably the highest
- 1:01:41I am on any coordinator on our list.
- 1:01:44Yeah. I'm with you.
- 1:01:47I'm with you on that who we got next O'Brien?
- 1:01:50All right, next up. We got Tony, Elliott, offensive
- 1:01:54coordinator at Clemson. This is a name that was very
- 1:02:00high on the buzz list last year when we thought Fuente might be
- 1:02:03out following the covid year, the big thing out the gate.
- 1:02:08This guy can recruit his ass off.
- 1:02:12You look at some of the recruits.
- 1:02:15He's pulled in. It's a who's who of the big-name
- 1:02:18Clemson guys that have walked through the door?
- 1:02:22And he has lower Mid-Atlantic recruiting experience.
- 1:02:25So he's recruited up into Virginia.
- 1:02:27He's recruited a lot and the Carolinas or crew delight and
- 1:02:31Georgia some in Florida and really completely torn it up and
- 1:02:37his offenses have set records. I mean we look at 2021 is really
- 1:02:41the big outlier. Some of that has to do with some
- 1:02:44of the limitations He's had with his quarterback play overall,
- 1:02:48he's more of a running backs ISO.
- 1:02:51You know, I'm not sure if we'll see.
- 1:02:55See, that type of thing carry over there, but his offenses
- 1:02:58have done well, with really good talent.
- 1:03:01And with, you know, just above average Talent you, he doesn't
- 1:03:05need a five-star. Number one or two quarterback in
- 1:03:08the class to get it done. And his position group is always
- 1:03:13performed. Like I said, with the running
- 1:03:15backs there, they've always had pretty good.
- 1:03:17Numbers Shipley's do is probably the bright spot of that offense
- 1:03:20this year. Overall, obviously Travis at TN,
- 1:03:25completely tore it up when he was here, and when you listen to
- 1:03:30this guy, talk much like Freeman, very infectious
- 1:03:33personality type of guy, you want to play for type of guy,
- 1:03:37you want to hear speak about that your program?
- 1:03:41So Curtis we talked about the pros.
- 1:03:42What are some of the cons here man?
- 1:03:45One of the cons is again no head coaching experience and it's
- 1:03:49very limited recruiting in the DMV are very limited.
- 1:03:52He this isn't like his primary or his primary areas down in
- 1:03:56Georgia and Florida. So he has submitted Land
- 1:03:59Experience. But he's not, it's not a ton of
- 1:04:03where we, where we feel like we need to see it.
- 1:04:07He's only ever coached and state of South Carolina.
- 1:04:10Clemson and firm, that's it. So that's that's one of those.
- 1:04:18I'm not going to say it's a red flag.
- 1:04:20At least it's only two states away, you know, and it's in your
- 1:04:25footprint. So probably gets a feel a little
- 1:04:27bit about the type of recruiting Virginia Tech can do and here's
- 1:04:32my biggie. You talked about having either
- 1:04:35Elite or above-average Talent. So, basically Brian saying five
- 1:04:39or four, H thumb 3. How does he?
- 1:04:44How does he coach not only Talent?
- 1:04:47And it's, and I know of Clemson's a little different.
- 1:04:50They do have some, I guess you could say scheme fit guys, and
- 1:04:55some more locker room guys than a place like, Alabama, Ohio
- 1:04:59State, but it's still a bunch of talent.
- 1:05:06It's still a top 10 talented team.
- 1:05:09And when you start taking guys away from that, and putting them
- 1:05:12in that where we are right now, we're sitting 40.
- 1:05:15Usually we set somewhere, Between about 22 and 30, right?
- 1:05:20How are you going to get 25 to play like 10?
- 1:05:24It's tough because when I say, call power 0 and they go 37
- 1:05:28yards for a touchdown, can't do that anymore because it's not
- 1:05:32all there. I like Tony.
- 1:05:35I think Tony has taken a hit this year with the way the
- 1:05:38offense is looked. And then I do some of that's
- 1:05:42fair and some of that's not but I mean, it kind of is what it
- 1:05:45is. You take it.
- 1:05:47Hit even, you know, whether it's dessert or not, you're the face
- 1:05:50of the offense so it kind of comes with the territory, right?
- 1:05:53It's true. You're the face and especially
- 1:05:56when the guy that, you know, he was calling with went to South
- 1:05:59Florida and now he's not doing girl.
- 1:06:04Great at all. But it's one of those things.
- 1:06:09I don't think Tony line Lanes anywhere this year.
- 1:06:11I think he's cooled off, but I think what will be interesting
- 1:06:14to see what happens is with him and Dabo Brannan, Street is a
- 1:06:19quarterback coach, right? Yep.
- 1:06:21If that's the issue does Dabo pull the trigger because Dabo
- 1:06:26has done that a few times. He's like, guys, go a couple.
- 1:06:30Guys have had good success in left.
- 1:06:33We're going. Talk about another guy pretty
- 1:06:34pretty soon here that he did that with.
- 1:06:37Yes, we are. All right, but Brian, who's our
- 1:06:39next candidate up? All right, so next up, we've got
- 1:06:44Dan landing, d.c. at Georgia. All right, so Dan Landing guys.
- 1:06:49His prose experience with winning programs.
- 1:06:53Always a big thing has a winning culture already instilled in him
- 1:06:58and you know, when we sit here and talk about well besides
- 1:07:01Georgia, you know, where else has he been?
- 1:07:05Well he was with Mike Norvell in Memphis because of potential
- 1:07:09Memphis connection, that was 16 and 17.
- 1:07:12When again over L came in there, kept the one day going he was
- 1:07:17also at Sam Houston State, a pretty good FCS power so you
- 1:07:23know it's like we win we win we win.
- 1:07:27Yep. Georgia since 2018 and his unit
- 1:07:33you know whether it be the outside line backing unit always
- 1:07:38good at Georgia or now the whole defense in general.
- 1:07:42They're an elite level. And I know they've got five star
- 1:07:46studs, all over the place. Other teams due to the what he's
- 1:07:52getting out of them. This year says a lot about him
- 1:07:57because they're dominating. Yeah to unprecedented levels in
- 1:08:02this era. Now, one more good thing about
- 1:08:05him Landing does has a purty good Mid-Atlantic footprint for
- 1:08:11his recruiting. So it's not like that culture
- 1:08:16shock of coming from the Midwest or the Upper Midwest.
- 1:08:19He's down at the Mid-Atlantic, similar to Tony, even though
- 1:08:22there's not a lot of DMV in there I still think that I think
- 1:08:28you would understand the cultures that are than guys
- 1:08:33coming out from the west or even the Midwest.
- 1:08:36All right Ron, what's the cons? So Collins I mean we've already
- 1:08:41said it for a lot of these guys with the big one is going to be
- 1:08:43the new head coach experience. We really don't know how he's
- 1:08:47going to handle a head coaching experience.
- 1:08:49Would he be a CEO type of guy that can work with the donors?
- 1:08:53All the stuff, the things that a coordinator don't have to deal
- 1:08:57with, you know? Will he be able to handle those
- 1:08:59types of roles and the other? The other big one here is that
- 1:09:03he's really only been on the coaching radar since he's been a
- 1:09:08coach. Be coaching elite players at
- 1:09:10Georgia. He wasn't a guy that was looking
- 1:09:14to make a big step up before that.
- 1:09:15Now he's at Georgia. He's coaching elite players and
- 1:09:18now all of a sudden he's getting some head coaching bugs so that
- 1:09:21may be a little bit of a red flag but overall Landing has a
- 1:09:25good good overall resume. I don't like him quite as much
- 1:09:29as Freeman in terms of just the other upside that he brings to
- 1:09:33the table. But I do think that he would be
- 1:09:37a pretty okay, fit. That ended up being the route,
- 1:09:40be went with. Yeah, I think you'd be an okay
- 1:09:43fit kind of get us back to, you know.
- 1:09:47The the Beamer Bud type mentality especially on the
- 1:09:51defensive side of the ball but I think he's a year away.
- 1:09:55Yeah, mean if you pull the trigger on him now maybe the
- 1:09:58biggest upside is you probably can get them a little bit on the
- 1:10:02cheap. But I think there's enough read
- 1:10:05their where you say he needs one more year.
- 1:10:07He needs a lot of these guys on this defense to go away which is
- 1:10:11going to happen this year with Georgia.
- 1:10:14How does he do it next year? Because I think if they dominate
- 1:10:17like they did this year, they lose people, their top 15
- 1:10:21defense next year, then he's going somewhere, interesting to
- 1:10:24see where. All right, Brian.
- 1:10:27We're going to stop right here because everyone else on this
- 1:10:31list is a head coach somewhere. Somewhere, but we wanted to
- 1:10:37bring up some names. Just so people can get this out
- 1:10:44of this is the boundary Corner podcast saying this.
- 1:10:47There's some people, these people, this is not, these are
- 1:10:51absolutely not happening. Let's start number one.
- 1:10:54Prime, shame, Beamer Shane, Beamer Shane.
- 1:10:57Beamer could have happened last year.
- 1:10:58It will not be happening this year.
- 1:11:00Go ahead and write it off. And there's, and there's several
- 1:11:03reasons that Shane's not happening.
- 1:11:06Right? Well, yeah, I mean, aside from
- 1:11:08every, every reason that was brought up last year, we paying
- 1:11:12at the dam by out to get Shane out of that contract in South
- 1:11:15Carolina, 17 and a half. That alone is why it's not
- 1:11:20happening. So number 2, Ed order on all of
- 1:11:23that is not happening. No, it's not happening.
- 1:11:28Tokyo's 61 years old. I love the guy's personality,
- 1:11:32but I do not want him as my head coach, after what I've been
- 1:11:34hearing about going on and LSU about his age.
- 1:11:38I think he's a damn fine coach overall, but I don't think that
- 1:11:45what he brings to the table. Is a good fit for Blacksburg
- 1:11:49right now, right now. Now now, well, I think Ocho is
- 1:11:53going to land somewhere head coaching.
- 1:11:56Probably not. But I think he's going to go out
- 1:11:59there and do the kids because kocho recruiting pitches and
- 1:12:03he's going to help some team out.
- 1:12:04If I'm Hill, whoever the USC candidate is, I'm immediately
- 1:12:10picking up cut. You want to be the asuc and my
- 1:12:13recruiting coordinator. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 1:12:16Number three. Yeah, we love them and he is an
- 1:12:20icon but he's not coming back y'all, but Foster is not coming
- 1:12:23out of retirement, Bud. Foster loves the lake and
- 1:12:28doesn't want to blow up his heart.
- 1:12:30So let Bud enjoy the lake, the enjoy, the boat enjoy, coming to
- 1:12:38games, where he doesn't get quite as worked up as he does on
- 1:12:41the sidelines and let him enjoy it.
- 1:12:46It's not happening. I mean it could have happened
- 1:12:49six years ago and I have been 110 percent fine with it it
- 1:12:54should have happened 10 years ago.
- 1:12:57Yes you could have happened 10 years ago, I'm with that and
- 1:13:01even if it didn't it should happen.
- 1:13:02Six years ago, I would have been perfectly fine with that higher.
- 1:13:06So unfortunately we're at a point where that, that that has
- 1:13:10passed and the last one guy's is Gary Patterson, because that
- 1:13:14would not work at all. Anyone Thinking it would is
- 1:13:19outside their damn mind. They're outside their mind.
- 1:13:22It's again age. Kocho and gay, Patterson, same
- 1:13:26age, 60, plus years old. You can't fire a head coach and
- 1:13:31then hire his mentor. He can't can't do that.
- 1:13:36Maybe that's why. I didn't get the job because
- 1:13:38essentially it's kind of what happened but now the Gary
- 1:13:41Patterson things just not happening, you see it out there
- 1:13:44you kind of chuckle but bra. On there is one guy that we did
- 1:13:50not put on this list and we would absolutely love to have
- 1:13:56this guy. Love it.
- 1:13:59Yep. Oz not that big track records.
- 1:14:02Great. But it's just not happening,
- 1:14:06it's not happening, and it's Luke fickle.
- 1:14:08And the reason it's likely not happening is because of the move
- 1:14:13of Cincy into the Big 12. And I think that move is
- 1:14:18essentially a green light for fickle to take as much time
- 1:14:22waiting on a blue blood program to come calling as it takes
- 1:14:27through whether that's this year or whether that's two to three
- 1:14:32years from now. Now, after he's LED since e, 22
- 1:14:35straight college football playoffs, but exactly, and
- 1:14:38whatever whatever it is. Yeah, I think fickle because of
- 1:14:43that move because of the new money that's going to be coming
- 1:14:45into that school because of that move because of their being
- 1:14:48bump, he's going to get because of that move.
- 1:14:51He doesn't need to go anywhere. Yep, he gets, he's gets to wait
- 1:14:55till he is ready. The fit is right 100% for him.
- 1:15:01And, you know, probably the Price is Right as well, if they,
- 1:15:04if the Big 12 can stay kind of the relevancy where it is right
- 1:15:08now and he starts running shop there every year.
- 1:15:11Why is he ever going to leave? I can make the playoffs every
- 1:15:15year, so why am I going to leave this?
- 1:15:17So, but that's that list. Now, let's start with the list
- 1:15:21of current sitting head, coaches, we feel potentially
- 1:15:25have a shot and we're going to start with wheel.
- 1:15:28Heat, will he lie down at UNC Charlotte?
- 1:15:33He's younger than us. I don't know if that's a be over
- 1:15:35on you know, say what you will but let's start this.
- 1:15:39Everything says, is that he can sell the hell out of a program.
- 1:15:43Everything you read, you hear people talk about them, the guy
- 1:15:45knows how to sell a program. He's obviously, UNCC.
- 1:15:50So he is clearly in Virginia Tech's recruiting footprint, so
- 1:15:54he probably has begin building relationships inside the state
- 1:15:57of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia.
- 1:16:01I know South Carolina for a fact, had a family member go to
- 1:16:05one of his camps a couple summers ago.
- 1:16:08There you go. He did show recruiting prowess
- 1:16:11at the FCS level. So, obviously somewhat of a good
- 1:16:16salesman, the you of our grad thing, we put it on here as a
- 1:16:22pro because at least if you're a, you of our grad, you've been
- 1:16:25in the state and you sow know, the hierarchy, you know, the lay
- 1:16:29of the land, you know how the college high school ranks,
- 1:16:31operate to some degree. And you probably know the
- 1:16:34importance of Virginia Tech football to people.
- 1:16:37Yep. Go to you of are you probably
- 1:16:39dealing with? Body whose family is a hokey and
- 1:16:42lose their minds more than likely at least one coach on
- 1:16:44that staff, is either a former hokey or has ties to the program
- 1:16:51in some way. Yeah.
- 1:16:52And then, Brian you threw this on here because this wasn't on
- 1:16:56here the other day Club lit. A, he likes to have a fun locker
- 1:17:03room. Yeah, there are no silent
- 1:17:05dinners there. There's no quiet.
- 1:17:08Getting ready for a game. He lets the kids hang loose
- 1:17:11because I think a, he's a young enough guy because he's 34, I
- 1:17:16believe it's still in the back of his mind, probably his
- 1:17:20college days, and the looser, you are, the less you think
- 1:17:25about. So there the pros, Shout out
- 1:17:29club lit. You know who you are out there?
- 1:17:33Let's go with the cons. Brian, what are you saying?
- 1:17:36I mean, the biggest one, you never coached at a power five
- 1:17:39school at any level position anything.
- 1:17:45He below. 500 as a head coach. Now, I will throw out there that
- 1:17:51his first year at Austin Peay brings this metric down
- 1:17:55significantly. But overall is a head coach.
- 1:17:59He is, he is well below 500 so that's something that could be a
- 1:18:04red flag for a lot of folks. Even He's had some success at a
- 1:18:09place like UNC Charlotte, that hasn't seen a ton of it, so
- 1:18:14that's one thing to look at and really he was a we've got a
- 1:18:18limited sample size of him as a FPS head coach at this point.
- 1:18:23So we're not sure you know, is what he's been doing the early
- 1:18:27returns something that will Trend over a five-year span or
- 1:18:31is that something that, you know, the Fuente pump that we
- 1:18:34saw in, 18 and 17 that will Peter off.
- 1:18:39Yeah. And, you know, the UNC Charlotte
- 1:18:44is an upstart program, you know, it's one of those.
- 1:18:48You to FBS. So him getting that job was
- 1:18:52crazy in the first place and he said, middle and success.
- 1:18:55There he did go to a bowl game as first-year had a great
- 1:18:58turnaround at Austin Peay and what you here again about this
- 1:19:06guy is, if you want to get excitement going and getting
- 1:19:09people to pay, it seems like he is that type.
- 1:19:12He is a see, he's never coached a P5, not not a lot of
- 1:19:15positions. I know you mentioned his Have
- 1:19:18got it up here his Chattanooga when he was there for six years,
- 1:19:23it's just labeled assistant that even guys who coach it that
- 1:19:30level. Normally if you go look up
- 1:19:33something out there on them. It gives a little more detail
- 1:19:36but just an assistant there you know it did say does some
- 1:19:42quarterback coaching wide receiver coaching recruiting
- 1:19:45coordinator passing game coordinator.
- 1:19:47So it literally sounds like if they had a position to be
- 1:19:51filled, they just gave it to him.
- 1:19:54Which is, I don't know if that's good or bad.
- 1:19:57So, I mean, I could I could deal with Healy.
- 1:20:04I would worry about the staff, though, because he doesn't have
- 1:20:08that many connections. I think there would be money for
- 1:20:12the staff. I really do because I don't
- 1:20:15know. Yeah, I don't think he would
- 1:20:16want to five million dollars? No, no.
- 1:20:19He's more of a probably to meal or less would get it done for
- 1:20:24him that opens up some more for your assistant coach salary
- 1:20:31pool. It run up the numbers later as
- 1:20:33Reach For Excellence, reaches its peak and when you get some
- 1:20:36more room to have some flexibility there, so there's
- 1:20:39some options there. If you get Healy in as your head
- 1:20:42coach, especially if he's able to sell the program here, like
- 1:20:47he's been able to do elsewhere. But it's a lot of risk involved
- 1:20:53there. You don't know exactly what
- 1:20:54you're getting is, a head coach because of the limit sample size
- 1:20:57and you don't know how that success or at least middling
- 1:21:01success will translate to power 5.
- 1:21:05All right. Ian Brown, who you got next?
- 1:21:09Next up, this one's going to be fun to talk about.
- 1:21:12It's David, Claussen head coach Wake Forest.
- 1:21:17You know, we got some pros here that will talk about.
- 1:21:19We got some cons for the pros. It's a guy that's been really
- 1:21:25successful at every stop, even if he hasn't necessarily Blown
- 1:21:28Away In The Wind, the win-loss record, he's definitely been
- 1:21:31successful. And he is a Player Development
- 1:21:35Guru. If you if you want a guy that
- 1:21:37can take your three star and turn them into all-conference
- 1:21:41players, he's got the ability to do that.
- 1:21:45Got connections to Virginia recruiting from his time at
- 1:21:49Richmond. From his current time.
- 1:21:50At Wake Forest, he is a mi kyung, High floor, type higher
- 1:21:58u.s. trying now. you know, it's a guy that You know, you
- 1:22:11probably need the right guys around him too, but he's not,
- 1:22:14he's never going to be a guy that will go out there and get U
- 1:22:17sub 500 records in back-to-back Seasons.
- 1:22:21He may not get you to the promised land though unless a
- 1:22:23lot of things go as way. He understands complementary
- 1:22:27football, a lot of times when you see the one side of the
- 1:22:31ball, go down the other side. Can tries to pick it up.
- 1:22:35That didn't happen this past weekend, but And it's a guy with
- 1:22:42the right offense in the right, right?
- 1:22:45Flow of the game, can score bunch of points and get the
- 1:22:48right pieces in place there. But there are some cons to this
- 1:22:52higher Curtis what you got. Well the biggest con is high,
- 1:22:56he's never been at a high priority on.
- 1:22:59He's only been at 1/2 pry profile program in his long
- 1:23:04tenured coach in here and that was one years in OC at
- 1:23:06Tennessee. He never had any Vacations,
- 1:23:10there's no expectations at U of R.
- 1:23:13There was none in Bowling Green, there's none at Wake Forest.
- 1:23:16So immediately you walk in and you sit here at Wake Forest if
- 1:23:21they go seven and five for the next decade and make a bowl at
- 1:23:25programs happier and hell. They are the other, the other
- 1:23:31big things is as much success as he's had, we're winning and
- 1:23:36going to bowls. He's never really seen a
- 1:23:38recruiting on the currently. They're sitting 59th, I think
- 1:23:40maybe 49th and I looked at that wrong in 24/7.
- 1:23:44So usually you see a guy, get tenured and win some games.
- 1:23:49It's you're going to start picking off a four star here and
- 1:23:52there he hasn't. And is that just, you know, way
- 1:23:57cuz they is a smaller school, it's a private school.
- 1:24:00It's more difficult to get into. Could that be it?
- 1:24:03Or it could it be? He just doesn't know how to
- 1:24:05pitch anybody, that worries me. Now the last one here is he's
- 1:24:13never really used the portal. He redshirts everybody and at
- 1:24:18wait there's not Damon image and likeness situations to start
- 1:24:21dealing with that. I think can be dealt with find
- 1:24:24the right compliance officers, but the one of not a lot of
- 1:24:30portal. We are in an era where you have
- 1:24:34to use the world, you have to, because whoever comes in here
- 1:24:38next year, you're probably looking at portal quarterback.
- 1:24:43Probably some portal defensive lineman 22 portal quarterback.
- 1:24:49Okay, and this is, this is my thing.
- 1:24:59I think a Dave Clawson with what he does.
- 1:25:03I think if he went to a Florida and or LSU, he could potentially
- 1:25:08have better success. They recruit themselves and it's
- 1:25:11easy to just go get to Ace recruiters and say here, 750,000
- 1:25:16dollars, go recruit when we get close to closing time, I'll come
- 1:25:19in and have a conversation with you, by my side to close the
- 1:25:22deal on the kid. My deal with Claussen is that I
- 1:25:29just don't think he is the type of guy that can relate to
- 1:25:35Virginia talent that we need to bring in the foreign 5 Star kids
- 1:25:39in the state. I don't think that that's a good
- 1:25:42fit for him. I think that's where that's
- 1:25:45where that's where it's a deal breaker for me.
- 1:25:50I mean a lot of ways, he has less personality than Fuente
- 1:25:56times and I I get that he has more of a grasp on how to
- 1:26:02recruit the area than Fuente did, but if that's not turning
- 1:26:06into recruiting wins then it doesn't really matter that
- 1:26:10you've got a better grasp. So I just I just I don't think
- 1:26:14he's the he's not a very good juice candidate.
- 1:26:16He doesn't bring the juice and he's in his mid-50s.
- 1:26:20Yeah. So and it's not just because
- 1:26:22he's older, I don't whether he was old young and different.
- 1:26:26His personality is not, he's not a juice, the locker room, he's
- 1:26:29not He doesn't juice the program.
- 1:26:31Nobody's getting excited that we got Dave Clawson, except maybe a
- 1:26:35bunch of guys that are in their 60s that are like.
- 1:26:37All right, well, we're at least win seven games every year, we
- 1:26:42don't want that. Hey Brian.
- 1:26:46Let's talk about the next guy here.
- 1:26:51Jamie Chadwell head. Coach Coastal Carolina.
- 1:26:53What's our Pros on him? So, Jamie Chadwell for the pros.
- 1:27:02He's won everywhere. He's been He hasn't been a lot
- 1:27:06of places but he's won everywhere.
- 1:27:08He's seen success in a difficult G5 conference.
- 1:27:13So that's something to talk about there.
- 1:27:16He's got an offensive Focus, great offensive numbers.
- 1:27:19I think we need probably going to still need some good
- 1:27:22offensive numbers because I think we will be able to bring
- 1:27:24in a defensive guy. It'll be interesting to see how
- 1:27:28we, how we recruit for offense, especially the way our roster is
- 1:27:32built right now we're going to need somebody that can focus on
- 1:27:34that to get. That built back up.
- 1:27:36So that's a positive in my mind. He's got Regional recruiting
- 1:27:40ties. He's been recruiting the the
- 1:27:42Mid-Atlantic for a while now. And he was a near unanimous
- 1:27:48coach of the year in 2020. Pretty much every publication,
- 1:27:53that offers that type of award named Jamie Chadwell coach of
- 1:27:57the year. But Curtis, there's some Cons
- 1:28:01with this with this higher, which you got for me quite a few
- 1:28:04cons and what I'm going to add here at the end, we didn't talk
- 1:28:06about but having a conversation with somebody over the weekend
- 1:28:09and I'll give a shout out when we get there.
- 1:28:10First of all, similar to will Healey no power 5.
- 1:28:14Experience at all. None, he's been at North
- 1:28:18Greenville. Delta State, Charleston,
- 1:28:20Southern and college. Excuse me, Coastal Carolina, not
- 1:28:25College of Charleston. That would be hilarious.
- 1:28:30So none. Next limited, sample size is a
- 1:28:35head coach at G5 Coastal Carolina, just recently, flipped
- 1:28:39over. So, not a lot of experience
- 1:28:42there. A lot of experience elsewhere.
- 1:28:46His best season was the coach season, a very weird funky
- 1:28:49season. They only lost one game that
- 1:28:53year and if I can go back and recall, I think that was who
- 1:28:59they lose that game to give me a melona effort this up.
- 1:29:04The only game they lost was to Liberty in a bowl.
- 1:29:10So, you know, even that year, best living the best Liberty
- 1:29:14team ever, best little buddy team ever.
- 1:29:17Yes, we know all about that the other piece is because of
- 1:29:21similar to Healy, and I mentioned it before he, bringing
- 1:29:25the type of Staff, we need to win, can you bring in the light
- 1:29:28recruiters the right coordinators?
- 1:29:30Would not having that experience with a lot of connections, have
- 1:29:35bigger programs getting a sell them to come here.
- 1:29:39The other thing I'm going to put it as a again, as a con problem,
- 1:29:43with our boy delft over the weekend, It is kind of a
- 1:29:49gimmicky, he was trying to compare to Georgia Tech.
- 1:29:52It's not Georgia Tech because they throw the ball 20 plus
- 1:29:55times a game. But if you look at it, it is a
- 1:29:58gimmicky offense. It's essentially a shotgun
- 1:30:00triple option with with passing. Yep.
- 1:30:04And You know that worries me essentially if you don't have
- 1:30:13the right trigger man, can it run exactly?
- 1:30:17Now he's had a yet a really good trigger man.
- 1:30:19This year again, they still average more but the question
- 1:30:23would be once you get I think delft is making a point.
- 1:30:28Is once people get it on tape. Does it still work?
- 1:30:32Try to say what the Fuente offense that people sold it out?
- 1:30:35Know the one day off. Sense to me, it's still not
- 1:30:38completely figured out. Because even as bad as offensive
- 1:30:41coordinator, as cornelison is there are times like, you know,
- 1:30:45when we can get 400 yards of total offense, And his play
- 1:30:50calls are shit. So I mean if we hire Chadwell I
- 1:30:57would be said they're critical of the staff, more than anything
- 1:31:00sound similar to Healy. Okay.
- 1:31:04Yeah, the only thing I had actually give Healy potential
- 1:31:08not over Chadwell just because I could see Healy selling the
- 1:31:13program better than Chad. Well, even though I think
- 1:31:15Chadwell might be the better X's and O's guy, I see Chad, well,
- 1:31:19it's kind of went a 2.0 in a lot of ways so that that to me is,
- 1:31:28is kind of what I would stay away from.
- 1:31:32I feel like you might have the same Same type of outcome.
- 1:31:35If you go Chadwell that you had with one day you might see a
- 1:31:38bump initially but over time you'd see it kind of Peter out.
- 1:31:44All right, this is essentially now we're at our top three.
- 1:31:49And I think the next guy is probably solid to where the two
- 1:31:53top guys are 1A and 1B, but let's go.
- 1:31:58Let's go. Tom Herman, Tom Herman former
- 1:32:01Texas in Houston coach currently is a bear's offensive analyst
- 1:32:06after seeing what they did today against the Ravens.
- 1:32:09This might hurt his case, but we digress.
- 1:32:13What do you see in this Pros for Tommy Herman?
- 1:32:17The first one, I'll throw this out there.
- 1:32:19We wanted him six years ago and couldn't quite get it done.
- 1:32:25That's a big one. He is the best coach not named
- 1:32:28Mack Brown since 1986. I've been four other coaches.
- 1:32:33He's the only one to get them somewhat back into a level of
- 1:32:38relevancy. Since Mack Brown left, and Mack
- 1:32:42Brown kind of left in a inauspicious way there in terms
- 1:32:47of where the program was left. So, Did pretty good.
- 1:32:51All things considering especially the dumpster fire
- 1:32:54that he inherited from Charlie. So you know that's one thing to
- 1:33:01put it, put in his in his cap there he was 22 and 4 at
- 1:33:06Houston. Including a Peach Bowl victory.
- 1:33:10He won every Bowl. He played in while he was at
- 1:33:12Texas or he coached in a Texas, he was 70% win percentage as a
- 1:33:17head coach. And he was the offensive
- 1:33:21coordinator and quarterback coach for a national title team
- 1:33:24at Ohio State. Pretty good resume.
- 1:33:27Their big stops head coaching experience of the power 5 level.
- 1:33:33Just a lot of lot of boxes checked with, with Tom Herman
- 1:33:36here. And overall, I mean, we didn't
- 1:33:39have it listed here but good recruiting background as well.
- 1:33:44Yeah. Good recruiting background on
- 1:33:46the cons are kind of as follows though and I've got a few and
- 1:33:49I'm going to flip one more Pro on here.
- 1:33:51He did take a year off Collegiate football.
- 1:33:54He went to the NFL level, I think some people expected him
- 1:33:59to land somewhere at some school.
- 1:34:01Maybe it's savings or back at Ohio State, but he didn't, which
- 1:34:06was very telling to me really no major ties to recruiting in our
- 1:34:12region. I see that as a negative because
- 1:34:17he's got to start understanding the mindset because he is a
- 1:34:21state of Texas coach. Yeah, we got his background
- 1:34:25stuff from, but I think when you have a guy who's been at bigger
- 1:34:28programs, it's a lot easier. I think he would walk in and
- 1:34:32say, Here's my three Virginia, guys.
- 1:34:36Here's my three guys deeper down south.
- 1:34:37Here's my three guys from or up West.
- 1:34:40I'm going to listen to them. And what they tell me about how
- 1:34:44I need to approach each section of the country.
- 1:34:48I think it's why he's had success.
- 1:34:49Now my other piece Pro, This guy got fired after going seven and
- 1:34:54three last year. His three losses was an overtime
- 1:34:59loss to the Sooners, in the shootout, hip and then two
- 1:35:04losses by Less Than 3 points. And they fired him.
- 1:35:10Clearly he irritated some big booster down there after the
- 1:35:13bulb, my opinion, but I like Herman.
- 1:35:20Um, I think Herman could put a good staff together.
- 1:35:23I think guys would work for Herman because they know again.
- 1:35:2670% winning, you went 70 percent clip, you know, roughly every
- 1:35:31three or four years. That's that's ten wins a year,
- 1:35:34dip. And I felt like the, the really
- 1:35:37only - that I think moves the needle for me is that he is a
- 1:35:40Texas region guy. How will he adjust to that in
- 1:35:44the Mid-Atlantic? Will he make that adjustment?
- 1:35:46And I think he can but that's really the only I think red flag
- 1:35:50for me that really matters because that's the one that's
- 1:35:55going to be the most important to kind of flip in the other
- 1:35:59direction. All right, Brian.
- 1:36:02So we got to the top of the mountain and we have a one a and
- 1:36:05one B. We're going to start with the
- 1:36:06one be on. Let's talk about the head coach
- 1:36:11down at louisiana-lafayette Billy Napier.
- 1:36:15Yep, a lot of Pros here. Obviously we got to experience
- 1:36:19as a head coach solid program that he's put together down at
- 1:36:23Lafayette. Kind of built that back up real
- 1:36:26quick. When and some big-time games
- 1:36:30big-time program experience since he's been coaching.
- 1:36:32So he's had some stops, a big, big programs.
- 1:36:36Obviously, we talked about it. We're talking about Alabama as
- 1:36:40being the big one there and Speaking of Alabama, he is a
- 1:36:45disciple of the Saban model if you did not read the athletic
- 1:36:49article on that. It's wild like literally 280 and
- 1:36:55pretty great. Every aspect of the saving model
- 1:36:57gets put into place at Lafayette.
- 1:37:01He runs that program like a power five program and he
- 1:37:06recruits the state well despite just being a G5 program.
- 1:37:09So that's a big thing that they're pulling in a couple you
- 1:37:12know French Our star players for Star players, they're doing,
- 1:37:16they're doing some things down there, that most G5 programs
- 1:37:19don't do. Any took over, you know, solid
- 1:37:24Raging Raging Cajun program and made you know, that Team Elite.
- 1:37:29They're really running the the good old Sun Belt now so and he
- 1:37:35has a great recruiting profile including is one painful.
- 1:37:40One for every hokey thing because the Taj Taj Boyd's on
- 1:37:44there. Yeah, the downfall.
- 1:37:46Yeah. So he was at Clemson back in the
- 1:37:51late 2000s and recruited Tajh, Boyd.
- 1:37:58And as some other big time names from when he was at Alabama,
- 1:38:03including Jerry Judy and a couple other guys.
- 1:38:05So yeah, he's got a who's who of recruiting so recruiting would
- 1:38:11take a big bump if we were able to make Make that that, that
- 1:38:15pull work. But what are some of those cons
- 1:38:17there, buddy? Well, it's a symbol to the point
- 1:38:20a situation six years ago, it's another G5 darling, he's doing
- 1:38:24great things at the G5 level. He's you know, he's double digit
- 1:38:30wins for second season down in Louisiana Lafayette.
- 1:38:35Reports that he's been offered and he's passed on other jobs on
- 1:38:39the Auburn and South Carolina jobs are kind of the first two
- 1:38:42that kind of open your eyes. There's more money there.
- 1:38:45There's definitely definitely, you know, especially Auburn lots
- 1:38:52easier to recruit down there much easier to recruit and it
- 1:38:55all over. So, it's why didn't he take
- 1:39:00those jobs is something he's truly trying to find that
- 1:39:03perfect fit. And could we be it?
- 1:39:06And he really has no establish DMV test.
- 1:39:09He got Boyd back 10 years ago but there's, there's not a lot
- 1:39:13here. He was born in Cookeville,
- 1:39:15Tennessee. He grew up in the northern part
- 1:39:17of Georgia. He's only about five hours from
- 1:39:19Blacksburg from where he grew up.
- 1:39:21So it's one of those things. He's not extremely, did not grow
- 1:39:27up extremely far from Blacksburg, but definitely a
- 1:39:31ways and the G5 darling thing we put on there.
- 1:39:39It is, it happens, every time. It happened to Herman and
- 1:39:42happened to Fuente, and they'll be more but to what Brian said,
- 1:39:47in the pros category Napier was at Clemson. 06 07 08 09.
- 1:39:54He got let go, I believe in 10. I think I had his stuff up here.
- 1:39:58Dabo let him go. And that's one of those things
- 1:40:02to where he was not dabo's guy. He was originally told me about
- 1:40:08this guy. He was there through 10 so we
- 1:40:11got fired at the end of 10th when he brought on Chad Morris.
- 1:40:15But he had that stop five years of the program like Clemson even
- 1:40:19in the mid-2000s, when they were not the best team, then Florida
- 1:40:23State were still, the closest SEC type programs in the ACC.
- 1:40:28So, is there five years? Tight ends running game
- 1:40:31coordinator 0c n QB, coach. He went to Alabama's an analyst,
- 1:40:36he's been an associate head coach of Colorado, State under
- 1:40:39mcilwain. And then he went to Alabama 13
- 1:40:4214 15 16 and you Alabama recruits itself but you still
- 1:40:46have to go in there and do the work and it's impressive from
- 1:40:51there. He did one student in 2017 is an
- 1:40:55OC and then he's been at louisiana-lafayette since then.
- 1:41:02I think he gets the bigger picture and I think having that
- 1:41:06much time at those big programs That's the biggest difference.
- 1:41:10People are going to come and say it to us Brown.
- 1:41:12Well we went to is with Patterson at TCU, what was TCU
- 1:41:16during the time, he was there. What type of program?
- 1:41:21Do you have? They might have been in a lychee
- 1:41:23path but it was a G5 program. DC was kind of what, you know,
- 1:41:30not quite what since he is baby. What U CF was a few years back.
- 1:41:34Yeah, but it's still it's different.
- 1:41:37It's who you're across the field from every week is different.
- 1:41:41Even with they pierced in an Arizona stayed out in the
- 1:41:44Pac-12. It's different across the field.
- 1:41:47It's more Talent. Then coaching at ECU and the
- 1:41:52early part of the 2010s. That's my big thing with him.
- 1:41:57Yeah. And like I said, the, the thing
- 1:42:00that where he runs that program, like a power 5 is the thing that
- 1:42:04really impresses me. And I think that's that carries
- 1:42:07over immediately, because he's not having to really change a
- 1:42:11whole lot of his day-to-day operations.
- 1:42:13He's selling the program. Like a power five program.
- 1:42:15He is fundamentally setting up, practice and lifting and
- 1:42:20Workouts of all that stuff. Like it's a power five program.
- 1:42:24He's planning out his month day and week like it's a powerful
- 1:42:28program, he's ready to take that step.
- 1:42:32So the question is are we going to make it make an offer for him
- 1:42:36to do that? And is he going to accept that
- 1:42:39offer? Because more than likely he's
- 1:42:41going to have at least some of those other programs at our
- 1:42:46level calling if not the LSU's and Florida's.
- 1:42:50It's very, very true. Alright, well, let's flip over.
- 1:42:54Let's get our one egg and Brian, let's go back and forth with the
- 1:42:58pros in the column. Because this is our guy.
- 1:43:01We actually again we have been sitting at the table and this is
- 1:43:05our guy. He might not be everybody's one
- 1:43:06but he's our one. Yep Charles Huff.
- 1:43:10It is the Marshal head coach and Brian let's kind of expunged
- 1:43:16upon his prose and then we'll talk about the cons.
- 1:43:21He grew up in the DMV. Yep, Marilyn Guy, Maryland guy.
- 1:43:27So he grew up in it. Yeah, you have a feeling that he
- 1:43:34understands. Finally Maryland probably
- 1:43:37understands Virginia, he grew up in it.
- 1:43:41Yeah not only grew up in it but went to college at Hampton in
- 1:43:44the 757 actually. While he was there blocked for
- 1:43:49the same running back that I blocked for in high school
- 1:43:52Alonzo. Coleman shout-out, Halifax
- 1:43:55County Hall of Famer Alonzo Coleman in the Charles Charles
- 1:44:00up with us. As helpful as a center for
- 1:44:04Hampton, when he was there in the early 2000s.
- 1:44:08Oh, some of the better Hamptons squads as well.
- 1:44:10I know Alonzo broke some records while he was running back there.
- 1:44:14So so Huff was put Paving the way for Alonzo to break records
- 1:44:18to hand-painted in the mid-2000s.
- 1:44:21So from the 757 went to Hampton, I don't think they would be even
- 1:44:27even coming from the DMV going down in there.
- 1:44:29I got a feeling he understands the culture down. 275 and The
- 1:44:33Importance of Being a of that area to recruiting.
- 1:44:39Absolutely. So this is a biggie and I don't
- 1:44:43give a damn where he was at. He is always crushed Virginia
- 1:44:48recruiting And everywhere else, but he's really done a damn good
- 1:44:52job in Virginia especially this time at Penn State.
- 1:44:56And I know people are going to say, well, he was at Penn State.
- 1:44:59It's once again, he had the program.
- 1:45:03He still had to sell it. He likely understands everything
- 1:45:10in high school. I'm like, Justin Fuente, Brian.
- 1:45:14I got a feeling he could walk into your buddy down at Oscar
- 1:45:17Smith, I bet he already knows him.
- 1:45:19Yeah, I bet. So I bet he knows Lauren
- 1:45:23Johnson, I bet he knows some of the better coaches in Northern.
- 1:45:26It would not be a, I need to learn what these people do and
- 1:45:31who they are. It would be so, it's Charles.
- 1:45:34Yeah. It's, uh, he knows it.
- 1:45:36He already knows the lay of the land.
- 1:45:38He's a guy that they were probably familiar with from Penn
- 1:45:42State. He's recruited some from, for
- 1:45:44Alabama, when he was down there, he's obviously that's part of
- 1:45:47his footprint Marshall. Now, They got the guy can just
- 1:45:52flat-out recruit. I mean, you know, we can run
- 1:45:56down the list of the guys, he signed from Virginia, while he
- 1:45:58was at Penn State, but it speaks for itself.
- 1:46:03I mean assigned to of the best running backs that one of the
- 1:46:09better running backs that Virginia has had in a while.
- 1:46:12And then he also signed say, Quan Berkeley while it was
- 1:46:15there. So Berkeley in Micah, right.
- 1:46:19Mike Parsons, yep. And Ricky Slade, really know
- 1:46:24that. Didn't, that didn't work out the
- 1:46:26way anybody wanted it to but kind of didn't.
- 1:46:29All right. Well, let's talk about this next
- 1:46:31Brian. Let's just kind of get away from
- 1:46:32recruiting and essentially so one reason, he's 18 grew up in
- 1:46:36the area, went to college in the area has recruited the area has
- 1:46:40recruited Virginia big He's been an assistant head coach for,
- 1:46:45Nick Saban amongst others who have been assistant coaches.
- 1:46:49I'll give you two names. Mario crystal ball and Kirby
- 1:46:52Smart. We're in a hc4 Saban, you go far
- 1:46:57if you're younger coach, it matters it does.
- 1:47:02And in a lot of people say, well, that's just a title of
- 1:47:06just means he's second in command.
- 1:47:09Yes, Nick Saban has tapped you to be his second in command when
- 1:47:13he's got to go over here on a recruiting trip but there still
- 1:47:17needs to be practiced that day or next.
- 1:47:19Got to do this, for some reason, you're in charge for the day,
- 1:47:24that's a lot. Especially saving Nate exactly
- 1:47:29completely screwed on up in the head.
- 1:47:34Yeah, that's a big one for me and, you know, the other one
- 1:47:39he's been at big-time program since 2014, we already talked
- 1:47:42about the facades of Penn State and Alabama.
- 1:47:45You definitely glean some of the You know, tips of the trade,
- 1:47:50some of the what it takes to win at those power five stars by
- 1:47:53having those type of stops. And, you know, we're seeing are
- 1:47:58already at Marshall with some of the way he's interacting on
- 1:48:01social media, some of the, the public events we've seen, he's a
- 1:48:05CEO type coach, he can sell a program, he can sell recruiting
- 1:48:10to the players, he knows how to make his program, shine out in
- 1:48:15the best way possible. It's very, very true, man.
- 1:48:19I mean you see imposed he basically tweets every week who
- 1:48:22his players of the week or win or lose?
- 1:48:25I know I saw a picture of him. He was at some local
- 1:48:27establishment in Huntington, maybe where he has breakfast or
- 1:48:29lunch constantly taking a picture with the owner.
- 1:48:33And you see that and understand you just feel like he would be
- 1:48:38that engagement guy. I feel like it's funny as if I
- 1:48:42don't know if he drinks or not. Do you feel like the first week?
- 1:48:46He's there. Like he would somehow make it to
- 1:48:48tots and like take a picture with the owner having a rail.
- 1:48:52He definitely have a rail at tots and I mean he's like he
- 1:48:58just seems like the type of coach that players, like, to
- 1:49:01play for Community can be proud. Proud of, and donors would be
- 1:49:06willing to invest in. And I mean, that's, that's the
- 1:49:08three big things that you really want from your head coach now
- 1:49:13before, and we're talking off the feet, obviously wins and
- 1:49:16losses matter. But in terms of off the field,
- 1:49:19appeal to the players appealed, the community appeal to the
- 1:49:23donors. Yep.
- 1:49:24All right, there are some cons and the first one is the lack of
- 1:49:29head coach experience. She's only been a head coach one
- 1:49:31year. Yep.
- 1:49:33They went seven and for their bowl eligible.
- 1:49:36They got one more game. It'll be a tough one, but they
- 1:49:40probably shouldn't. They're probably favored in that
- 1:49:42game. I haven't looked at the line
- 1:49:43yet, but they're probably going to be favored in that game.
- 1:49:46They are going to be favored in that game so you can be 8 and 4
- 1:49:52as a head coach in his first year.
- 1:49:56And that's not a bad program, but they did.
- 1:49:57I mean, when you completely flip your coaching staff, I think,
- 1:50:02especially as good as doc, was there.
- 1:50:05That's, that's where I am. Like, when I see, it's a lack of
- 1:50:12that sucks. They let go, they just didn't
- 1:50:14re-sign Doc. Holliday, he had a damn good
- 1:50:17season last year. You imagine walking in and
- 1:50:21saying go match that he has, he has now obviously the other one,
- 1:50:28no P5, head coaching experience there.
- 1:50:31I think everybody on this list with the exception of Tom
- 1:50:33Herman, Has no P5 coaching experience.
- 1:50:38Yep, not head coaching experience.
- 1:50:40And it's and that's going to be, that's going to be hard.
- 1:50:41Just because our program is not at a point right now, where we
- 1:50:45can. I mean, I sorry, Tom Herman and
- 1:50:50Dave Clawson will be the other one.
- 1:50:52Well, yeah, so those would be the two.
- 1:50:56Yeah, most people do. That's that's the problem.
- 1:51:02But I think that's the problem with our program right now is
- 1:51:05that we're kind of in that middling area where we can hire.
- 1:51:11The up-and-coming P5 coaches that are making some noise.
- 1:51:15We're not quite at that level. Those guys are going to the Blue
- 1:51:17Bloods. They already had success in the
- 1:51:20power 5 level they're getting looks at.
- 1:51:22You know now we got LSU open USC, open Florida.
- 1:51:25Open you got Washington open. Now the upside is that we're
- 1:51:35likely not in a bunch of competition for whoever gets
- 1:51:37hired at Washington. We're not in We're in a little
- 1:51:42competition with TCU little. Yeah.
- 1:51:47Florida and LSU are probably going to be targeting whoever
- 1:51:52our top one or two candidates are they are also targeting them
- 1:51:55there at least on their list. They may not be at the top of
- 1:51:58their list but they are on their own these Woods.
- 1:51:59Absolutely. Alright last piece is he has
- 1:52:03really no 0 C or D c-- coaching experience.
- 1:52:06He did do some special teams coordinator and Run game
- 1:52:09coordinating. Back to his CEO Mantra in.
- 1:52:14Somebody said, is that could that be good or bad?
- 1:52:17Well, what type of Coach are you looking for?
- 1:52:21I think with his connections to Big programs and the waves
- 1:52:25traveled and is regional ties, you would have getting getting a
- 1:52:29staff that can handle the o.c. and DC duties and not
- 1:52:32necessarily needing a ton of daily day-to-day impact from
- 1:52:36your head coach. On those areas is probably not a
- 1:52:39big deal. Yeah.
- 1:52:41So there it is. That is our list.
- 1:52:45A lot of candidates, you know, I think something's out by I think
- 1:52:52next week, we're talking her UVA game rap and we're talking about
- 1:52:55the next head coach, I really do.
- 1:52:57I think it's going to come out, whoever it is regardless of
- 1:53:00their situation comes out next week because I think whoever it
- 1:53:03is, especially if it's one of these guys already coaching
- 1:53:05somewhere and if they're in the championship game.
- 1:53:08There is going to be it's going to be that split.
- 1:53:11Do you see so many teams have at this time of year?
- 1:53:17We're not going to discuss pickles tonight, guys.
- 1:53:19Wanna hit that Thursday because we've been almost at it for two
- 1:53:22hours and it's late and we got the money around on a game up
