- 0:01Speaker 1: That the way you grow in life, your transformation, you
- 0:05Speaker 1: getting to the end of your journey, you seeing the
- 0:07Speaker 1: promised land, it is compounding returns, but in a way
- 0:10Speaker 1: that's different. What God compounds is God compounds how you've lived.
- 0:15Speaker 1: God compounds the seeds of faith that you have sown.
- 0:19Speaker 2: That's impossible. Let me tell you what I believe.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Your weakness is not your technique. Don't think you are.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Know you are.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The Impossible Life Podcast. You're sitting on a winning lottery ticket.
- 0:37Speaker 3: An idea that is fully formed, fully understood.
- 0:40Speaker 1: That sticks.
- 0:43Speaker 3: This is the Impossible Life Podcast. because Nick and I
- 0:47Speaker 3: are attempting to live impossible lives. What we know is
- 0:51Speaker 3: that nothing is impossible. So instead of using impossible as
- 0:55Speaker 3: an excuse to not try, we'll use the pursuit of
- 0:58Speaker 3: impossible as an accelerant for greatness. If something's never been
- 1:03Speaker 3: done before, that just means it's unexplored. If they tell
- 1:06Speaker 3: you it's too hard, it's just waiting to be simplified.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Impossible is a default label, used by uncourageous people, unwilling
- 1:16Speaker 3: to take a risk.
- 1:17Speaker 1: The real truth is this.
- 1:19Speaker 3: The solution to any impossible task starts with this question.
- 1:24Speaker 1: If I had to, what would it take?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Welcome to another episode of the Impossible Life Podcast. I'm
- 1:32Speaker 2: your co-host, Nick Surface, and I'm looking across as a
- 1:34Speaker 2: man whose endurance is so strong, his finish line has
- 1:37Speaker 2: abandonment issues. That's right, friends, the former Navy SEAL.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Garrett Unkelbach, a man who doesn't need a finish line. Eventually,
- 1:47Speaker 2: the race just gives up.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That's good.
- 1:51Speaker 2: How's that going?
- 1:53Speaker 1: It's going well. I just keep going.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Here's my race strategy. I'm just going to sprint out
- 1:57Speaker 2: of the finish line, or sprint from the starting blocks,
- 2:00Speaker 2: and then I'm just going to keep sprinting. For how long? No,
- 2:02Speaker 2: that's the plan.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Before I scum move. You cross the finish line of
- 2:06Speaker 1: the marathon, you just keep running. Wow. Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I mean, wouldn't that be something? You finish an ultra
- 2:10Speaker 2: and you just run all the way back.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Well, see you later.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, great. Gee, why are we talking about that? Today's
- 2:15Speaker 2: episode is to help you develop endurance. Man, endurance is
- 2:20Speaker 2: not like a sexy word. I mean, we see this.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And it's not just developing endurance. It's thinking differently about
- 2:25Speaker 1: your race. Right. When you do need to have an
- 2:29Speaker 1: eye for the prize, you've got to look at the
- 2:31Speaker 1: finish line. But what will help you so oftentimes in
- 2:34Speaker 1: life is having the right perspective. And where I see
- 2:37Speaker 1: people fall short, where I see people miss it, is
- 2:39Speaker 1: they're like, oh, in two years, my company is going
- 2:42Speaker 1: to X, Y, and Z. And they make it to
- 2:44Speaker 1: month 36 and they're like, I guess I should quit.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I guess it's not working. I guess I failed. Where
- 2:51Speaker 1: what you don't see is if you're doing it correctly,
- 2:53Speaker 1: all the growth that's happened in between. So endurance is
- 2:57Speaker 1: certainly a part of the equation, but it's learning to
- 2:59Speaker 1: think differently about what you're accomplishing and having the right perspective.
- 3:03Speaker 1: to truly be able to run your race. Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And endurance is talked about in the Bible so, so much.
- 3:11Speaker 2: What I was thinking about when I think of endurance,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I think for most people listening, and I know this
- 3:14Speaker 2: because I take all our messages, for most people listening,
- 3:17Speaker 2: if you say, hey, let's go run five miles, very
- 3:20Speaker 2: few people think that sounds exciting. What I hear a
- 3:23Speaker 2: lot is from our 30-day discipline challenge, a lot of
- 3:26Speaker 2: people are like, I hated running. Now, the farthest you
- 3:28Speaker 2: run in our 30-day discipline challenge, I believe is a 5K,
- 3:30Speaker 2: which is 3.1 miles. And a lot of people have
- 3:33Speaker 2: messaged us and said, I hated running. When I saw
- 3:35Speaker 2: there was running, I just wanted to quit. But actually,
- 3:38Speaker 2: all the daily lessons that you gave me and getting
- 3:40Speaker 2: into scripture helped me change my thinking. I've actually developed
- 3:43Speaker 2: an enjoyment of running. What an amazing thing to happen
- 3:46Speaker 2: in 30 days.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And I just have to throw in some, you know,
- 3:50Speaker 1: maybe hurtful commentary here.
- 3:52Speaker 2: That's unlike you.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I don't really like running either. Right. But that doesn't
- 3:57Speaker 1: mean you get to not run. It's part of the
- 3:59Speaker 1: reason we put it in the, you know, yesterday we
- 4:01Speaker 1: did first week of it's next week to the mighty
- 4:04Speaker 1: men fitness test, which a part of our discipleship program
- 4:07Speaker 1: requires you to run a two mile, which if you
- 4:10Speaker 1: think that's like, man, that's ridiculous. Like run it, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you make guys run. You should like, what, how are
- 4:17Speaker 1: you looking at life? If you think like, I don't run,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I can't run. You should be able to run. You
- 4:23Speaker 1: should be Louie Zamperini. You should be able to run
- 4:25Speaker 1: until the day that you die. Who has lied to
- 4:27Speaker 1: you about your physical body? That running is so hard.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It's so challenging. I got knee problems. I'm going to
- 4:34Speaker 1: not continue to go down this rabbit hole. But I'm
- 4:37Speaker 1: just saying this to say, you need to readjust your
- 4:40Speaker 1: thinking if running is that hard for you. You don't
- 4:43Speaker 1: have to be a Navy SEAL, but you are not
- 4:45Speaker 1: a healthy person if you can't run.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Right. And I think that that's reflective of a mindset
- 4:50Speaker 2: of comfort knees. And everybody has something. Some people love
- 4:53Speaker 2: running and hate lifting. Some people love lifting and hate running.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Some people just hate it all. Whatever it is, whichever
- 4:59Speaker 2: way you're geared towards, just know it's all needed. You
- 5:02Speaker 2: want to age well, you need muscle. You need a
- 5:04Speaker 2: good VO2 max, which comes from running. You need to
- 5:08Speaker 2: be doing these things.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And really, for most people, it's not even about a
- 5:10Speaker 1: certain time. You should just be able to jog.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, because God forbid you ever, yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 2: and I don't think we need to go into that,
- 5:19Speaker 2: but you should be able to do those things. We're
- 5:21Speaker 2: not the should all over you podcast. But sometimes you
- 5:25Speaker 2: need to step back and go like, man, where have
- 5:27Speaker 2: I allowed this type of thinking to develop a story
- 5:30Speaker 2: that I've accepted what is actually very weak thinking and
- 5:33Speaker 2: is robbing you? So this is not the Get Out
- 5:35Speaker 2: and Run podcast, but you should get into our 30-Day
- 5:38Speaker 2: Discipline Challenge. I had no plans to plug that, but
- 5:42Speaker 2: it'll really help you, genuinely. I love, man, the more
- 5:45Speaker 2: we go on, G, that thing's been live for literally
- 5:47Speaker 2: a year. We launched it last October. The stories that
- 5:49Speaker 2: come in, are just such a blessing. For the record,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I love hearing from you guys. We get a lot
- 5:54Speaker 2: of messages. I never go like, oh, darn. Because I
- 5:57Speaker 2: screenshot the praise reports and send them to Garrett or
- 6:00Speaker 2: send them to our group chat.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And you know what you get for finishing the 30-day
- 6:04Speaker 1: discipleship path, Nick?
- 6:06Speaker 2: You tell me, G.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You get a better sense of confidence. You get an
- 6:10Speaker 1: open door into the life that you thought you've always
- 6:12Speaker 1: been capable of. We're not going to send you a t-shirt,
- 6:14Speaker 1: but you get something that's way better than that.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's basic discipline training. It can be a foundation
- 6:18Speaker 2: for you if you allow it. It's also free.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, boom. There we go. Of course it is.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So anyways, you can find that in school, by the way,
- 6:26Speaker 2: which if you scroll down in the podcast show notes,
- 6:29Speaker 2: there's links to school, like three or four of them.
- 6:31Speaker 2: If you just click in there, you can sign up
- 6:33Speaker 2: for free. You go into the classroom section and you
- 6:35Speaker 2: just click start. Follow the instructions. Don't be the person
- 6:38Speaker 2: that does day one and skips over day zero and
- 6:40Speaker 2: then asks me to release it to you. I do
- 6:42Speaker 2: that for people still because I want y'all to just
- 6:45Speaker 2: enjoy it. But follow the instructions. That's part of the
- 6:47Speaker 2: discipline training.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Anyways. Okay.
- 6:49Speaker 2: So today we're talking about like endurance and we're talking
- 6:52Speaker 2: about growth and transformation and the actual process because we
- 6:55Speaker 2: have an idea of what we think it is. And
- 6:57Speaker 2: then there's the way that it actually is. And there
- 7:00Speaker 2: is a massive tension between those things, and we want
- 7:02Speaker 2: to address that because we want to give you a
- 7:05Speaker 2: mindset of endurance so that you can run it to
- 7:07Speaker 2: the end. It's so important. So we're going to start
- 7:09Speaker 2: where we always start, which is the Word of.
- 7:11Speaker 1: God, G.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And Jesus, man, I'm in right now and reading through
- 7:15Speaker 2: the Bible. I'm doing, for the second year in a row,
- 7:17Speaker 2: the Bible recap with Tara Lee Cobble, reading through it.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And I love it, man.
- 7:21Speaker 2: We've arrived.
- 7:21Speaker 1: What book are you in right now?
- 7:22Speaker 2: We're in the Gospels. And in the Gospels, you read
- 7:24Speaker 2: them chronologically, so you dip into all four.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And, dude, I love it.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I just want to hang out in the Gospels. I'm genuinely,
- 7:30Speaker 2: I think next year I'm going to study more the
- 7:32Speaker 2: Gospels rather than go through the whole thing.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Doing the Gospels chronological where you're in all of them
- 7:37Speaker 1: is the funnest when you, maybe you didn't do this
- 7:40Speaker 1: on your first read, but it's so fun when you
- 7:41Speaker 1: see the parallels and you see how different people talk
- 7:44Speaker 1: about it. Or, you know, two of the books had
- 7:47Speaker 1: this or three of the books had this, but the
- 7:48Speaker 1: other didn't.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and they give little details. I mean, you're exactly right.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I'm just loving it. So anyways, in Mark 4, 30
- 7:55Speaker 2: through 31, and Jesus gives so many examples. I think
- 7:58Speaker 2: it's Matthew 13 is where he talks about the kingdom
- 8:00Speaker 2: and gives so many the kingdom is like examples. But
- 8:03Speaker 2: in Mark 4 is like this version of it, is
- 8:06Speaker 2: Mark's account of it, which Mark actually took Peter's eyewitness
- 8:09Speaker 2: account and gave it to us. So this is really
- 8:10Speaker 2: a lot from Peter. This is what it says, Mark 4,
- 8:12Speaker 2: 30 through 31. Again, he said, what shall we say
- 8:15Speaker 2: the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall
- 8:18Speaker 2: we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed,
- 8:20Speaker 2: which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. This
- 8:23Speaker 2: is the kingdom of God. Yet when planted, it grows
- 8:26Speaker 2: and becomes the largest of all garden plants with such
- 8:29Speaker 2: big branches that the birds can perch in its shade. Now,
- 8:33Speaker 2: you'll notice that Jesus left out the timeline. He didn't
- 8:35Speaker 2: say within six months. He just, right? Because we're like, oh, yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 2: we love that, like small to massive. Well, how long
- 8:42Speaker 2: does that take, G? I have no idea. Well, let's
- 8:46Speaker 2: look at the timeline of Christianity a little bit just
- 8:48Speaker 2: to give you an idea. So Jesus comes to earth,
- 8:51Speaker 2: gets mobbed by lots of people, and then tells them, hey,
- 8:54Speaker 2: you want miracle Jesus? You only came to me because
- 8:56Speaker 2: of what I did. I'm the bread of life. Gives that,
- 8:59Speaker 2: thins the herd, then goes and dies on the cross.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Gotta eat my flesh and blood and also hate your family.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Right. I mean, and you laugh, but this is actually,
- 9:08Speaker 2: you know, and if you take those out of context,
- 9:11Speaker 2: it can be wildly out of control. But like, So
- 9:13Speaker 2: all these people are like, okay, well, I guess we're,
- 9:15Speaker 2: you know, they turn back and Jesus, I've read this
- 9:17Speaker 2: this morning, John six, do y'all want to leave too?
- 9:19Speaker 2: And Peter goes, where would we go? You're the, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 2: you're the holy one of God. You have all the answers.
- 9:23Speaker 2: So they follow him. And then he's like, well, you
- 9:25Speaker 2: guys have come this far. Now let's go to the cross.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And then the only one that stuck around at the
- 9:29Speaker 2: cross was, was John. So you can see like this,
- 9:32Speaker 2: Jesus is so popular. They want to forcibly make him King.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Actually a few weeks later, we're going to kill the
- 9:37Speaker 2: same guy that we wanted to make King. That's what's
- 9:39Speaker 2: that's humanity, right? So when Jesus finally goes on the
- 9:43Speaker 2: day of Pentecost, how many people were around? This great ministry,
- 9:46Speaker 2: three years. That was preceded by 30 years of development.
- 9:49Speaker 2: You've got 120. For those of you out there who
- 9:52Speaker 2: started your men's group and are really upset that you
- 9:54Speaker 2: only have, insert whatever number, be faithful. The test is
- 9:57Speaker 2: always what, G?
- 9:58Speaker 1: Faithfulness.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Always. So from 120 people, the Holy spirit shows up
- 10:03Speaker 2: the day of Pentecost and 3000. I'm sure you could
- 10:06Speaker 2: do the multiple of that, what that is G, but it's,
- 10:08Speaker 2: it's just under, it's probably like 25 X in a day.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Boom.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And you, and then you get a few days where
- 10:14Speaker 2: a couple thousand are added to their number. You're like,
- 10:16Speaker 2: praise the Lord.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Hallelujah.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Well, then little do you know, you're about to go
- 10:20Speaker 2: through some persecution. For how long? Just a couple hundred years.
- 10:24Speaker 2: So by AD 303, Emperor Diocletian puts in what's the
- 10:30Speaker 2: last great persecution of Christians. And I'm talking to the
- 10:34Speaker 2: point that if it was even suspected you were a Christian,
- 10:36Speaker 2: people could go in and just throw you out of
- 10:38Speaker 2: your house, and you were doing a service to the
- 10:41Speaker 2: Roman Empire. The amount of persecution that they went through
- 10:46Speaker 2: is incredible. So in AD 303 through 311, so that
- 10:50Speaker 2: great persecution lasted an additional eight years. This is after
- 10:53Speaker 2: so many years before this where, I mean, look at
- 10:56Speaker 2: every single one of the disciples was martyred. John died
- 10:58Speaker 2: of old age, but that was only because he failed
- 11:00Speaker 2: to die when they put him in a burning vat
- 11:02Speaker 2: of oil. Like how many people would rather die than
- 11:05Speaker 2: actually sustain that? I mean, it's brutal. Like people make
- 11:08Speaker 2: it sound like he had it easy. He got put
- 11:11Speaker 2: on the Isle of Patmos. That was not a vacation plan.
- 11:14Speaker 2: He got exiled there.
- 11:15Speaker 1: We can't kill you, so I guess we'll just leave
- 11:17Speaker 1: you on this island.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, until you die anyways. And then he writes the
- 11:20Speaker 2: Book of Revelation. So, I mean, when you look at
- 11:22Speaker 2: what these guys went through, unbelievable. And keep in mind,
- 11:25Speaker 2: if they did that to the leaders, it's not like
- 11:27Speaker 2: the followers were like, oh, we're just doing this to
- 11:29Speaker 2: the leaders. This is a normal thing. So then in
- 11:32Speaker 2: AD 313, they make religious tolerance a law under Constantine.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And then in AD 325, they have the Council of
- 11:38Speaker 2: Nicaea with Constantine also brought in, and then the emperor
- 11:42Speaker 2: after that made Christianity one of the religions that was
- 11:46Speaker 2: acceptable by the Roman Empire, and it absolutely exploded. So
- 11:49Speaker 2: that's 300 years. Fast forward a couple thousand more years
- 11:52Speaker 2: to now, and there's 2.3 billion Christians, according to Pew Research,
- 11:57Speaker 2: in 2020. Like, oh man, now we see that it's
- 12:02Speaker 2: the tree that Jesus described. The guys that he was
- 12:05Speaker 2: talking to about how it's a tree that's big enough
- 12:06Speaker 2: that has the branches for all the birds to perch in,
- 12:10Speaker 2: and it gives you shade, those guys all died hundreds
- 12:13Speaker 2: and even thousands of years before we actually see that
- 12:16Speaker 2: taking place. And I'm not saying that we've arrived or
- 12:18Speaker 2: we've made it now. You know, the kingdom is still
- 12:20Speaker 2: to come. But when you think about that timeline, man,
- 12:23Speaker 2: and you zoom out and you realize what God's willing
- 12:25Speaker 2: to do over time, I hope it makes you reassess
- 12:28Speaker 2: what endurance looks like in your life. Because we get
- 12:31Speaker 2: hung up on a six-month period or it's been a
- 12:33Speaker 2: rough year or I'm in a rough season. Thank God
- 12:36Speaker 2: you keep using the word season because guess what? Seasons change.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So the biggest thing we want you to take away
- 12:42Speaker 2: from today is that you just, you don't arrive and
- 12:45Speaker 2: you don't move at the same speed for the whole journey.
- 12:47Speaker 2: There's periods of acceleration. There's periods where it feels slower.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It's one of the reasons why we love ultra marathons
- 12:52Speaker 2: and using running examples, because I think the most valuable
- 12:55Speaker 2: thing you get in an ultra marathon is in a
- 12:57Speaker 2: 24 to 30 hour period, you get more life lessons
- 13:01Speaker 2: in a condensed period than anything else I know of.
- 13:04Speaker 2: You know, you go through all the highs and lows.
- 13:07Speaker 2: So These are the lessons of endurance. These are the
- 13:10Speaker 2: lessons of endurance. So one thing that I think is
- 13:14Speaker 2: a good example, so you may be going like, okay,
- 13:15Speaker 2: that's interesting about the church. Here's something everybody can relate to.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Have you ever heard that couple and that they've been
- 13:21Speaker 2: married for 40 years and they're like, we're more in
- 13:23Speaker 2: love now than we were when we first met? And
- 13:25Speaker 2: that sounds really nice, but I'm 21 years into marriage.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And I'm, I'm now getting to experience this because I
- 13:32Speaker 2: used to be like, I was, you know, maybe I
- 13:33Speaker 2: was cynical.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I would hear people say, and I'm like, really, I'm
- 13:35Speaker 2: looking at your wife, dude. And she's not looking that great. Like,
- 13:38Speaker 2: how could you be more in love? I've seen your
- 13:40Speaker 2: marriage pictures. You know, she was slamming hottie back then.
- 13:42Speaker 2: What's happened? You know, you know, and I'm just, this was,
- 13:44Speaker 2: this was 20 year old Nick's mind when I would
- 13:46Speaker 2: hear these older couples say this. I'm like, I don't know, dude.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Cause you know, at that point I'm just kind of going,
- 13:52Speaker 2: I'm looking around and I'm going, you're hot.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Oh, you love Jesus.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Like I was not necessarily the greatest, uh, not necessarily
- 13:57Speaker 2: have the clearest values, And God gave me grace and
- 14:00Speaker 2: provided the best way.
- 14:01Speaker 1: If marriage is the best it ever gets on day one,
- 14:03Speaker 1: it's not a good deal. There you go.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Thank you for saying that much quicker than me. So
- 14:08Speaker 2: now I've been married 21 years. Dude, I totally get
- 14:10Speaker 2: what they mean. Now my wife still looks amazing, and
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's not just about looks. But here's the point. The
- 14:16Speaker 2: example I gave when I was talking about my thinking,
- 14:18Speaker 2: when I would hear people say that at 20, now
- 14:20Speaker 2: in my 40s, I 100% get that because the level
- 14:23Speaker 2: of connection that my wife and I have, the level
- 14:25Speaker 2: of understanding.
- 14:26Speaker 1: The trust. Guess what?
- 14:28Speaker 2: We've both changed.
- 14:29Speaker 1: How much?
- 14:30Speaker 2: A lot. What I value now in my forties compared
- 14:33Speaker 2: to what I really glad that Nick's changed.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 14:35Speaker 2: That's unnecessary. What I value now in my forties is
- 14:38Speaker 2: so much greater than what I valued in my twenties. It's,
- 14:41Speaker 2: it's like a completely different list. And that's what you
- 14:44Speaker 2: can't see. Cause like in my mind, I was like,
- 14:46Speaker 2: right now, all I want to do is be with
- 14:48Speaker 2: my wife because, you know, we've just gotten married. We've
- 14:51Speaker 2: got all the, the fluttery feelings in our stomach. You know,
- 14:54Speaker 2: it's like, it's very emotional led and, you know, and
- 14:56Speaker 2: you just think, well, man, if it can just stay
- 14:58Speaker 2: like this forever, it's going to be so great. And
- 15:00Speaker 2: what you don't realize is that those things are so temporal.
- 15:03Speaker 2: And as you change and you mature and you start
- 15:05Speaker 2: to rule yourself and you begin to be able to
- 15:08Speaker 2: make the right choices, what you focus on changes, how
- 15:11Speaker 2: you serve and love each other, your level of depth
- 15:13Speaker 2: and intimacy and knowledge of each other, the life experiences
- 15:16Speaker 2: you've shared, what you're building together. Now you have like
- 15:19Speaker 2: 5 million ties together, whereas at the beginning you had
- 15:22Speaker 2: a few and And they were enough to get you going.
- 15:25Speaker 2: And so I think for, for, if you're in a marriage,
- 15:28Speaker 2: hopefully you're experiencing that.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And just, just what we're going to talk about today
- 15:32Speaker 1: is very similar to marriage. People also go through tough
- 15:34Speaker 1: times in their marriage.
- 15:35Speaker 2: A hundred percent.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Every, every marriage for every person in your life. It's,
- 15:40Speaker 1: it's rare for folks that it's just, you know, everything
- 15:42Speaker 1: just kept getting better all the time forever. And it
- 15:45Speaker 1: was always better than it was before. You're going to
- 15:47Speaker 1: go through difficult times. And even if you, you know,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I can tell you, if you have the benefit of
- 15:53Speaker 1: having parents who have a great marriage, you don't have
- 15:55Speaker 1: to go and you make some of the right choices.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You don't have to go through every single struggle in marriage.
- 16:00Speaker 1: You don't have to learn every lesson in life by experience. Regardless, though,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you will go through tough times in life. Yeah, guaranteed.
- 16:07Speaker 1: You will go through tough times in life. And not
- 16:09Speaker 1: every year of your marriage is going to feel like
- 16:11Speaker 1: absolute bliss. But we have this unrealistic expectation at times
- 16:18Speaker 1: where it's just like, man, I just, you know, things
- 16:19Speaker 1: are just going to keep getting better. And that's not
- 16:22Speaker 1: the way that it goes. And that's where people end
- 16:23Speaker 1: up quitting in life. They end up giving up, turning away,
- 16:27Speaker 1: just slowly, passively quitting over time when they feel like, oh, well,
- 16:32Speaker 1: you know, it's just been like a couple years of
- 16:34Speaker 1: tough times. And I guess this is it. I guess
- 16:38Speaker 1: I'm in the wrong lane. I guess I'm doing the
- 16:40Speaker 1: wrong thing because it's not getting better all the time.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And that is a very poor expectation. But so oftentimes,
- 16:46Speaker 1: it's how people think it's going to go. Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yeah. And I, here's what I, here's what I think
- 16:50Speaker 2: is so interesting, man. Cause we have this idea, like
- 16:53Speaker 2: you said, of how we think it's going to go.
- 16:55Speaker 2: And we think it's just going to be a straight line.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Like I'm going to work, I'm going to do a
- 16:58Speaker 2: certain amount of work and it's going to get me
- 17:00Speaker 2: a certain distance.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm going to start a podcast and it's okay. Only
- 17:04Speaker 1: five people listen to the first episode, but then 50
- 17:07Speaker 1: people listen to the second episode. Yeah. 500 people listen
- 17:10Speaker 1: to the third episode. And you think that's just going
- 17:12Speaker 1: to go on and on forever and ever until, you know,
- 17:16Speaker 1: And then by after a month, we're going to have
- 17:18Speaker 1: a million listeners.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Right. And so we think it's just going to be.
- 17:22Speaker 1: The former presidents have started podcasts and not received those results.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So manage your expectation. Boom.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Shout out to Obama. But we think it's going to
- 17:31Speaker 2: be like this slow, steady climb. And we're just going
- 17:33Speaker 2: to make like, hey, I'm going to go five miles
- 17:36Speaker 2: a year. And then at the end of 10 years,
- 17:38Speaker 2: I'm going to have 50 miles. Like I'm climbing a
- 17:40Speaker 2: 50 mile mountain. And that's not how it goes. You
- 17:43Speaker 2: know where everybody sees this, G? I think this is
- 17:45Speaker 2: actually a great example. Your mortgage. I got my 30-year
- 17:49Speaker 2: mortgage and I got it at a 5% interest rate.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And isn't that great?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yeah, amortization is man's invention. Correct. It's what we want
- 17:58Speaker 1: to see out of growth. Yes. And banks created it
- 18:02Speaker 1: because it's logical and it's the most easy to follow
- 18:05Speaker 1: for people to commit to and also to the lender.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's very good up front. But that's not the way
- 18:10Speaker 1: that growth works in life. A company that we all
- 18:14Speaker 1: know and love and is still changing the world today
- 18:18Speaker 1: or at least selling to the majority of the world today, Apple.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Perfect example. From 1975 or 1976 when that company started,
- 18:26Speaker 1: then they went through. They had some good products, didn't
- 18:29Speaker 1: really make a lot of money, but they knew they
- 18:30Speaker 1: were doing something special. Then Steve Jobs is crazy. That's
- 18:34Speaker 1: just a factual statement. They had a hard time with that.
- 18:37Speaker 1: They get rid of him for 12 years.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And so by 1998, the company's over 20 years old,
- 18:43Speaker 1: and they realize getting rid of Steve was a bad idea.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Steve comes back, and then a few years later, we
- 18:49Speaker 1: have the iPhone. And then, you know, everyone's been paying
- 18:53Speaker 1: attention to Apple since the iPhone in 2001. Yeah. But
- 18:56Speaker 1: you don't realize that there was 25 years from the
- 18:59Speaker 1: beginning of Apple to the first iPhone.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Right. And you look at Apple today and their launch
- 19:03Speaker 2: of their new iPhone Duo, which... is retailing at a
- 19:07Speaker 2: mere $ 3, 000 for an iPhone.
- 19:08Speaker 1: A laptop for a phone.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for real. A two terabyte.
- 19:10Speaker 1: You use a motorcycle for a phone.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Dude, you could get a laptop cheaper than you can
- 19:13Speaker 2: buy their two terabyte iPhone, the new one. That blows
- 19:16Speaker 2: my mind.
- 19:16Speaker 1: It is smaller though.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, but okay, you're probably going to have one. But
- 19:22Speaker 2: we look at that company, and it's so easy. I mean,
- 19:25Speaker 2: we could go through this on Amazon.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You could pick.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I mean, we look at others.
- 19:28Speaker 1: SpaceX. SpaceX, Stripe. 20 years in the making. Yeah, exactly.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And in 2003 when SpaceX, that's when it started, right?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:37Speaker 2: In the common knowledge public, who's going like, oh, wow, SpaceX?
- 19:40Speaker 2: No one cared. Now, I think they started with a
- 19:43Speaker 2: $ 25 million valuation, which for a lot of people is like, oh,
- 19:45Speaker 2: my gosh. But considering the industry that they're in, that's like, hey, great,
- 19:49Speaker 2: you're a grain of sand. It's just not, it was
- 19:51Speaker 2: not big things.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And it's, well, you could even just take, um, Elon
- 19:54Speaker 1: Musk's life from a perspective of, it's not going to
- 19:57Speaker 1: go the way you thought it's going to go. Look
- 19:59Speaker 1: at where he's at today. And let's just talk about
- 20:01Speaker 1: him from the success of technology, technology development. Okay. That
- 20:05Speaker 1: dude went like almost lost it so many times. Yes.
- 20:08Speaker 1: But just continued to endure. And as I mentioned prior,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and you know, one of my favorite, most favorite thing,
- 20:15Speaker 1: recent things that Elon has said is that he attributed
- 20:18Speaker 1: all of his success to his ability to eat glass.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Is that what he actually said?
- 20:22Speaker 1: I just keep going. Right.
- 20:25Speaker 2: So why are we saying this, G? Because look, if
- 20:28Speaker 2: you could sum up your life, and this is not
- 20:30Speaker 2: just like in business, but this is your life of
- 20:31Speaker 2: following Christ. It's like, it's adventures in missing the point.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:36Speaker 2: It's not going to go how you think. You absolutely
- 20:38Speaker 2: have to know whatever idea you have, whatever you think
- 20:41Speaker 2: you know, it will not go that way. Look at
- 20:44Speaker 2: the best things in your life. Did they go the
- 20:46Speaker 2: way you expected them to? No. Look at the worst
- 20:48Speaker 2: things in your life. Did they go the way that
- 20:49Speaker 2: you expect them to? No. It's always the things that
- 20:52Speaker 2: we don't see. And so you have to be armed
- 20:54Speaker 2: with this mindset of being prepared for the unexpected. You
- 20:58Speaker 2: talked about not being the person who knows how to
- 21:02Speaker 2: solve every problem, but being the type of person who
- 21:04Speaker 2: could figure out how to solve every problem. And that
- 21:07Speaker 2: sounds like, okay, that's not that much of a difference,
- 21:09Speaker 2: but there is a massive difference between I already know
- 21:12Speaker 2: and I can figure it out no matter what. And
- 21:15Speaker 2: that's the mindset of The Impossible Life.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I have a PhD in figure it out.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Boom.
- 21:19Speaker 1: What university? Hard Dog University. Okay. I should have known.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I think that was one of your interests.
- 21:24Speaker 2: All right. So we're going to get into three points
- 21:27Speaker 2: to really help you with endurance and And I just,
- 21:30Speaker 2: I heard this, I so love John Bevere. Obviously, he
- 21:32Speaker 2: was on our podcast, what, 49 episodes ago. But I
- 21:35Speaker 2: listen to his podcast, every single one. And he's been
- 21:38Speaker 2: talking about this lately. And I want to bring it
- 21:39Speaker 2: in here for those of you that don't listen. There
- 21:42Speaker 2: was this professor that did extensive research into every character
- 21:46Speaker 2: in the Bible. And he categorized them like professors do,
- 21:49Speaker 2: very scientific approach. And he found that 75% of the
- 21:53Speaker 2: people that we read about in the Bible did not
- 21:55Speaker 2: finish well.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So it's like the parable of the sower.
- 21:58Speaker 2: It is like the parable of the sower, man. But
- 22:00Speaker 2: this is a warning for us.
- 22:02Speaker 1: You probably could have guessed that. Hey, what are the
- 22:05Speaker 1: characters of who God used in the Bible going to
- 22:08Speaker 1: look like? They're going to look just like the parable
- 22:10Speaker 1: that his son told.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And you could probably take all of them, the ones
- 22:13Speaker 1: who fell short, and put them in one of the
- 22:15Speaker 1: three categories.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure you could. And I actually want
- 22:18Speaker 2: to go into that a little bit more on another podcast,
- 22:19Speaker 2: so I think that would be a fun one to do. But, man,
- 22:22Speaker 2: I hear that. And, like, that, gee, that, that's, that, like,
- 22:26Speaker 2: it bothers me, man, to hear that. I think, I
- 22:29Speaker 2: was talking to somebody about this recently. I think about, like,
- 22:32Speaker 2: seeing Jesus. I don't know if it's, like, unhealthy the amount,
- 22:35Speaker 2: but I think about the end a lot, dude. I
- 22:38Speaker 2: think about it every single day. I go, I do
- 22:40Speaker 2: not want to get to meet Jesus and have him say, man,
- 22:43Speaker 2: this is great, but I had so much more for you.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Or even worse, away from me, I never knew you. Like,
- 22:47Speaker 2: that actually breaks me. Um, and, and like, if we
- 22:50Speaker 2: don't have that eternal perspective, we will make so many
- 22:53Speaker 2: compromises because that's really where it's going to end up.
- 22:56Speaker 2: We've been told very clearly. And if someone's telling you
- 22:58Speaker 2: what's coming for you and you still drop out, like,
- 23:01Speaker 2: I don't really know what excuse you have every year
- 23:03Speaker 2: on the mighty men path. Cause we're coming to the
- 23:04Speaker 2: end of it. We get to the end and we
- 23:06Speaker 2: have to, unfortunately have conversations with some guys and say, Hey,
- 23:08Speaker 2: you're not going to pass this year. And they're, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 2: they'll have a lot of reasons why. And what, what
- 23:13Speaker 2: we do at the beginning of the year is we
- 23:15Speaker 2: sign a contract. that has all the expectations of what
- 23:18Speaker 2: you're saying you're going to do. So for me as
- 23:20Speaker 2: a leader, it's an easy conversation. Not that I'm going
- 23:22Speaker 2: to beat anybody up, but I go, hey, help me
- 23:24Speaker 2: to understand. You signed this in the contract where it's
- 23:26Speaker 2: very black and white. What part was unclear about this?
- 23:31Speaker 2: And that's what we're in. We have it in black
- 23:33Speaker 2: and white.
- 23:34Speaker 1: There's no surprise standards.
- 23:35Speaker 2: No, exactly. And we have it in black and white, man.
- 23:38Speaker 2: It's so clear in the Bible. So, G, let's arm ourselves,
- 23:41Speaker 2: because there's three points that we need for this mindset.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Well, really, I'm going to put it into three points,
- 23:48Speaker 1: but the lesson and the perspective that I want everyone
- 23:51Speaker 1: to have from today's episode is, I've said this before,
- 23:56Speaker 1: there's so much more that God has for you than
- 23:58Speaker 1: you think. And you've got to realize that when you're
- 24:01Speaker 1: running your race and you feel like, I can barely
- 24:03Speaker 1: run laps around my block, how am I supposed to
- 24:05Speaker 1: climb a mountain? And you just... Begin to break down
- 24:08Speaker 1: and you don't like the pace that you're at and
- 24:10Speaker 1: you don't feel like you're in a place where you
- 24:12Speaker 1: could achieve what you feel like you're capable of achieving
- 24:15Speaker 1: and you don't see the path from where you are
- 24:17Speaker 1: to where God's going to take you. There's a reason
- 24:20Speaker 1: God doesn't show us the middle because the middle sucks. Yeah,
- 24:24Speaker 1: no kidding. Right? God, he'll give you the beginning and
- 24:26Speaker 1: he'll give you the end. He doesn't show us the middle.
- 24:27Speaker 1: He says, look, just trust me. It's like when I'm
- 24:30Speaker 1: teaching my kids to swim. Okay. I promise you won't drown.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Jump in the pool. That doesn't mean you won't feel
- 24:37Speaker 1: like you're drowning. I'm just saying, trust me, you won't drown,
- 24:41Speaker 1: but your head's going to go into the water. I'm
- 24:43Speaker 1: not going to tell you about that right now. We're
- 24:44Speaker 1: just going to work on your swimming. Okay. And what's
- 24:47Speaker 1: at the end of this story is great. You're not
- 24:50Speaker 1: going to like what happens, but trust me. Wow.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I didn't know that second phase was also a, how
- 24:54Speaker 2: to teach your kids a second, second phase of buds.
- 24:56Speaker 1: That's so much of our journey in life. So what
- 24:59Speaker 1: I want to do today is I'm going to, I'm
- 25:00Speaker 1: going to put this into three simple lessons, three key points.
- 25:04Speaker 1: of what it takes to really understand that the way
- 25:07Speaker 1: you grow in life, your transformation, you getting to the
- 25:11Speaker 1: end of your journey, you seeing the promised land, it
- 25:14Speaker 1: is compounding returns, but in a way that's different. What
- 25:18Speaker 1: God compounds is God compounds how you've lived. God compounds
- 25:22Speaker 1: the seeds of faith that you have sown. But every
- 25:26Speaker 1: time you sow a seed, sometimes you don't get that back.
- 25:28Speaker 1: But what God is, is God is the author of justice.
- 25:31Speaker 1: So even where you've sown a seed, And it's like, man,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I did everything right, and the storm came, and maybe
- 25:37Speaker 1: it's unfair that your harvest was destroyed. God sees that,
- 25:41Speaker 1: and God has justice exactly for that. And so what
- 25:44Speaker 1: you've got to know, too, is God cares way more
- 25:46Speaker 1: about what you can accomplish than He cares about your growth.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And when you get to the place where, like Scripture
- 25:53Speaker 1: talks about, you're mature and complete and lacking nothing, that's
- 25:56Speaker 1: where God puts you into the places where you can
- 25:59Speaker 1: reap a lifetime of harvest in a year or in
- 26:02Speaker 1: two years. But you have to do the work and
- 26:04Speaker 1: the process to be able to get there. So let
- 26:06Speaker 1: me break this down into kind of three key lessons,
- 26:09Speaker 1: three key points that you've got to understand if you
- 26:12Speaker 1: want to see everything that God has for you. And
- 26:14Speaker 1: you've got to have a different mindset about it. Okay.
- 26:16Speaker 1: So point number one is you have to endure to
- 26:19Speaker 1: be able to grow. Okay. A lot of people in life,
- 26:24Speaker 1: they go through hard stuff. It's harder than they wanted
- 26:26Speaker 1: it to be. This was what I saw all the
- 26:28Speaker 1: time talking to tadpoles who wanted to join the military
- 26:31Speaker 1: and And they wanted to just understand how hard is
- 26:34Speaker 1: it exactly? Like, tell me how hard it's going to be.
- 26:37Speaker 1: So that way I know I'll have confidence in myself
- 26:41Speaker 1: that all I have to do is be able to
- 26:42Speaker 1: do X, Y, and Z, and then I will make it.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And what I tried to help the tadpoles I worked
- 26:47Speaker 1: with understand is that if I did that for you,
- 26:49Speaker 1: if I quantified for it, quantified it for you, the
- 26:53Speaker 1: moment the instructors exceed whatever quantification I gave you, you
- 26:58Speaker 1: will be so close to quitting. Because you've thought you
- 27:01Speaker 1: could put your growth, you thought you could put your success,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you could put a number around it. But it's not
- 27:05Speaker 1: about what you can achieve. It's about the person that
- 27:07Speaker 1: you're becoming. So if you quit, you're never going to
- 27:10Speaker 1: see it. You'll never see the promise if you quit.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Growth comes in your life from the follow through, from
- 27:18Speaker 1: sticking it out. Growth comes in the lessons learned. And
- 27:20Speaker 1: you can learn when you fail. You learn when you fail.
- 27:23Speaker 1: But when you quit, you are rejecting the lesson. I'm
- 27:27Speaker 1: not going to say that you can never learn from quitting.
- 27:29Speaker 1: That's a big absolute statement. But I will say most
- 27:32Speaker 1: of the time in life when you quit, you go
- 27:34Speaker 1: back to the beginning of the road that you started down. Yeah. Right?
- 27:37Speaker 1: You start down a road in life. And when you
- 27:39Speaker 1: start down that road, there's other paths you could have taken.
- 27:41Speaker 1: There's doors that are open to you. You say, okay,
- 27:43Speaker 1: I'm going to go in this direction. And when you quit,
- 27:46Speaker 1: what you're doing is you go back to the beginning
- 27:48Speaker 1: of that road and you have to pick a new door. Yeah.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Man, I hope that that's such a warning sign. It's
- 27:52Speaker 2: like our man Hormozy said, failure and success are on
- 27:54Speaker 2: the same road. It's just that failure is an earlier exit.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And Pastor Keith, one of my favorite sayings he says is,
- 28:00Speaker 2: you never lose when you learn. That mindset of I'm
- 28:04Speaker 2: setting out to learn rather than like, oh, if it
- 28:06Speaker 2: doesn't go this way, I lost. I mean, that's a
- 28:09Speaker 2: massive shift.
- 28:09Speaker 1: You got to understand that's what God cares about. Yes.
- 28:12Speaker 1: God could achieve whatever he wants to achieve in your
- 28:14Speaker 1: life in a moment. God doesn't need your help with that.
- 28:16Speaker 1: But what he does care about is your growth. And
- 28:18Speaker 1: this is Galatians 6, verse 9. Been living on Galatians 6,
- 28:23Speaker 1: 8 a lot lately. So I'll quote that one right
- 28:25Speaker 1: before we go into 6, 9. But Galatians 6, 8,
- 28:28Speaker 1: God will not be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So 6, 9, let us not become weary in doing good.
- 28:36Speaker 1: For at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if,
- 28:41Speaker 1: it's a big if here, if we do not give up.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Don't become weary. Don't get tired. Don't start feeling sorry
- 28:46Speaker 1: for yourself.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Why?
- 28:48Speaker 1: Because you know your time is coming. So quit trying
- 28:52Speaker 1: to say, well, why isn't it my time? Let me
- 28:54Speaker 1: ask you a question on this, G, because.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I think about why people quit in, and that, that
- 29:16Speaker 2: scripture is so good, uh, of just, cause what it's
- 29:19Speaker 2: basically saying is if you give up, you're basically saying
- 29:21Speaker 2: to God, like, Hey, I don't think you're going to,
- 29:23Speaker 2: I don't think you're true to your law. And we
- 29:25Speaker 2: would never see it that way. But do you think
- 29:27Speaker 2: that what changes in a person over the course of
- 29:30Speaker 2: time is that they stop being focused on the outcome
- 29:32Speaker 2: and switch to just being faithful with the sowing? Because
- 29:35Speaker 2: I think what makes you quit is you're like, man,
- 29:37Speaker 2: I've been sowing a lot and I've only got this. That,
- 29:39Speaker 2: that is like quitting talk.
- 29:40Speaker 1: No, people walk away from seed in the ground all
- 29:42Speaker 1: the time. What's the verse before this? God will not
- 29:46Speaker 1: be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. It's telling
- 29:49Speaker 1: you that. So don't become weary in doing good. Keep sowing.
- 29:54Speaker 1: If you don't like the harvest, this is my internalized
- 29:57Speaker 1: perspective of life. If you don't like what you have,
- 29:59Speaker 1: keep going.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Right? I mean, it's Winston Churchill. When you're going through hell,
- 30:03Speaker 1: don't stop. If you're catching hell, don't hold on.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Keep going. If you don't like the harvest that you have,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you just need to sow more seed and then also
- 30:12Speaker 1: wait for that seed to come to a harvest. And
- 30:14Speaker 1: while I'm waiting, I'm not going to stop sowing. I'm
- 30:16Speaker 1: just going to sow and accelerate my sowing. Because what
- 30:19Speaker 1: that means is that a time of accelerated returns is
- 30:21Speaker 1: coming for me. It's the whole point of this. Understand,
- 30:25Speaker 1: God won't be mocked. He has a process. Where we
- 30:28Speaker 1: mess up is we just don't like God's timing. Right.
- 30:31Speaker 1: But you know what? All you can do is cry
- 30:33Speaker 1: about that. That's all you can do about it. Or
- 30:35Speaker 1: you can just spend your time sowing.
- 30:37Speaker 2: And as my man, Garrett Unklebach said, no amount of
- 30:40Speaker 2: tears ever changed a tire.
- 30:42Speaker 1: No amount of tears ever brought a seed out of
- 30:44Speaker 1: the ground. There you go.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. Could you cry enough that you
- 30:46Speaker 2: could be watering?
- 30:47Speaker 1: No, anyways. You could water it. You're not going to
- 30:49Speaker 1: make it grow any faster. Very true. Keep going.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And the other part of endure to grow is... If
- 30:56Speaker 1: you just think about physical exercises, it's a little bit
- 30:58Speaker 1: easier for people to understand. Just doing a set of
- 31:01Speaker 1: curls doesn't make you grow. But the curls that hurt,
- 31:05Speaker 1: that makes your bicep grow. You've got to realize that
- 31:08Speaker 1: pain is a part of the process. And pain, when
- 31:11Speaker 1: properly processed, produces great growth in your life. And I'm
- 31:17Speaker 1: not talking about gym pain anymore. I'm talking about the
- 31:20Speaker 1: difficult suck that you go through in your life. Everyone
- 31:24Speaker 1: will go through a valley of tears and a valley
- 31:27Speaker 1: of suck and a valley of beat down. And what
- 31:31Speaker 1: you're going to have to do in that season is
- 31:32Speaker 1: realize it's making you better. If you look at that
- 31:35Speaker 1: season of, oh, why me? Even if you don't quit,
- 31:39Speaker 1: you're going to get on the other side of it
- 31:40Speaker 1: and be bitter and be hateful and be scornful about
- 31:43Speaker 1: the season that you're in. But that pain produces greatness
- 31:47Speaker 1: in your life. And so like I said, pain when
- 31:49Speaker 1: properly processed produces great growth. What does it mean to
- 31:53Speaker 1: properly process Is it seeing that pain through a lens
- 31:57Speaker 1: of God has a great plan for my life. If
- 32:01Speaker 1: you realize that's the case, that God has a great
- 32:03Speaker 1: plan for your life, then all that pain, it has
- 32:05Speaker 1: meaning to you. It has purpose to you. You're going
- 32:08Speaker 1: to continue to push through. Pain, when properly processed, produces
- 32:13Speaker 1: great growth in our life. Man, I love that.
- 32:15Speaker 2: What I thought about when you were saying that, G,
- 32:17Speaker 2: because the workout example is such a good one. If
- 32:19Speaker 2: you go to the gym and you don't work out
- 32:21Speaker 2: till failure, you don't know what we're talking about. Because
- 32:24Speaker 2: who wants to go in there and be like, oh, man,
- 32:27Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm going to get this next
- 32:29Speaker 2: rep up. That's what it actually looks like. And that's
- 32:32Speaker 2: when you start to experience growth. That was one of
- 32:34Speaker 2: the biggest things that I learned from Cody was he
- 32:36Speaker 2: talked about reps in reserve. And most people will do
- 32:38Speaker 2: like four sets of eight. And really, they've got like
- 32:40Speaker 2: another five or six reps in them. But they're like, oh,
- 32:42Speaker 2: I started to get a little burn.
- 32:44Speaker 1: No, no.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Go to the point that you have eight reps and
- 32:46Speaker 2: you hit number six and you're like, I have no
- 32:48Speaker 2: idea how I'm going to do these next two. That
- 32:51Speaker 2: is when I saw exponential growth. And that's what you're saying.
- 32:54Speaker 2: It's like pain when properly processed produces great growth.
- 32:57Speaker 1: And if you have that mindset, then you understand Romans 5,
- 33:01Speaker 1: verse 3 and 4. We glory in our suffering because
- 33:05Speaker 1: we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope. Right? Right.
- 33:13Speaker 1: This is hope and understanding who God is. This is
- 33:16Speaker 1: hope and the plans and the promises that he has
- 33:18Speaker 1: for your life. When you understand this, you go through
- 33:21Speaker 1: this suffering and you say, man, this is great. Like
- 33:24Speaker 1: what an attitude. This is the same as James 1.
- 33:27Speaker 1: We glory in our suffering. Yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 2: That thought process of glory and suffering is, like you said,
- 33:35Speaker 2: you get to assign the meaning to it. And what
- 33:37Speaker 2: we've assigned, I feel like in the American church, is
- 33:39Speaker 2: we've assigned, and we talked about this with Dr. Robby,
- 33:42Speaker 2: We've assigned suffering as like it's punishment when it's actually
- 33:45Speaker 2: what God's using to pressure. It's the pressure that he's
- 33:47Speaker 2: using to conform us into the image of his son.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Same experience, like an insert, whatever's difficult in your life
- 33:53Speaker 2: right now. Same experience, but the meaning you give to
- 33:56Speaker 2: it will produce an entirely different attitude.
- 33:59Speaker 1: And this is business too, right? Let me put this
- 34:02Speaker 1: through a business lens. If you can look at something, right?
- 34:07Speaker 1: You can look at an investment opportunity, say, hey, we're
- 34:09Speaker 1: going to buy this apartment complex. And if those costs
- 34:12Speaker 1: start exceeding what the initial pro forma was, that thing
- 34:16Speaker 1: starts to look like a bad investment. And the whole
- 34:18Speaker 1: reason that you got into that, right? If you're just,
- 34:20Speaker 1: let's just talk about like a single investment of, you know,
- 34:23Speaker 1: buying an apartment complex or something. The whole reason you
- 34:25Speaker 1: got into that was for the cash. Right. And if
- 34:27Speaker 1: it's not penciling, then it's not penciling. You're going to
- 34:29Speaker 1: walk away from the deal. Now, when you're building a business,
- 34:32Speaker 1: that's different. If you're building a business the right way,
- 34:34Speaker 1: you're building a business to solve a problem. And sometimes
- 34:37Speaker 1: you get through an equation and it's like, man, this
- 34:38Speaker 1: didn't pencil the way that we wanted it to. But
- 34:41Speaker 1: we know this market so much better now. And the
- 34:43Speaker 1: first product that we built has informed this second product
- 34:46Speaker 1: that has way greater returns than the first product. And
- 34:50Speaker 1: the only thing that you're going to get out of,
- 34:51Speaker 1: you know, the only reason you continue in that apartment
- 34:53Speaker 1: deal is if you're locked into it and it's like, man,
- 34:55Speaker 1: this thing's going to pencil out to zeros. Like nobody's,
- 34:58Speaker 1: we're just going to get our money back and there
- 35:00Speaker 1: was no growth, but we learned so much in the process.
- 35:03Speaker 1: It leads you on to a greater success. And here's
- 35:06Speaker 1: what you got to understand as well. And we're still
- 35:08Speaker 1: on just 0.1 here. I'm going to wrap up 0.1
- 35:09Speaker 1: in a second. We're still in point one of just
- 35:12Speaker 1: endure to grow. What you need to also know is
- 35:14Speaker 1: that just take this on. You can just believe me
- 35:18Speaker 1: or you can be disappointed for a while and then
- 35:20Speaker 1: you'll come back like Garrett was right and I need
- 35:22Speaker 1: to just receive this lesson is that most of the
- 35:24Speaker 1: time in your life, I'm not telling you you won't
- 35:27Speaker 1: ever have super wins and super victories that come in
- 35:31Speaker 1: a short amount of time and are 10 times greater
- 35:33Speaker 1: return than you thought they were going to be. I'm
- 35:35Speaker 1: saying you'll have those. It's just not most of them.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Most of the time, It's gonna take twice as long
- 35:40Speaker 1: and it's gonna cost twice as much. It's just the story.
- 35:43Speaker 1: That's just the story. And be okay with that. And
- 35:46Speaker 1: the reason, this comes back to the earlier points, the
- 35:48Speaker 1: reason you'll be okay with that is because you know
- 35:51Speaker 1: that those valleys of woe, the hurt, the longer time,
- 35:55Speaker 1: the longer cost, it's helping you be great. And this
- 35:58Speaker 1: is Hebrews chapter 10, verse 36. You need to persevere.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Just hear that. You need to persevere so that when
- 36:06Speaker 1: you have done the will of God, You will receive
- 36:09Speaker 1: what he has promised. Let me tell you what part
- 36:11Speaker 1: of the will of God is for your life. Part
- 36:14Speaker 1: of the will of God is that you grow and mature,
- 36:15Speaker 1: that you learn how to trust in him.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, big time, man. That's literally, I think that's one
- 36:20Speaker 2: of the biggest parts of it is we're being conformed
- 36:22Speaker 2: in the image of his son, that he would be
- 36:23Speaker 2: the firstborn among many brothers. That's the purpose for us. Okay,
- 36:27Speaker 2: how did Jesus learn? He learned obedience through suffering.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Through suffering.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Well, dang it. Can I have the obedience 101 like
- 36:34Speaker 2: class where we just go.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Where's the obedience Cheerios?
- 36:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that's what I want. Give me the gummies.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Give me the obedience gummies.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Those sound great.
- 36:40Speaker 1: All right. Number two. Number two. So number one is
- 36:43Speaker 1: endure to grow. Number two here is align to multiply. Okay.
- 36:48Speaker 1: And I'm going to talk about some of these. If
- 36:49Speaker 1: you're not a longtime listener, you've not listened to a
- 36:52Speaker 1: hundred or more episodes.
- 36:54Speaker 2: You've classified what longtime listener is right there. Yeah.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Well, we're over 300. The real Gs are those who
- 37:00Speaker 1: have listened to every episode. We're not out here just
- 37:03Speaker 1: turning the mics on because I want to run up
- 37:05Speaker 1: my electricity bill. Everything that we've done here and poured into,
- 37:11Speaker 1: it's cumulative. It's what I said at the very beginning.
- 37:13Speaker 1: And all of these things will build. There's stuff in
- 37:15Speaker 1: the beginning that you need to hear. And sometimes we
- 37:17Speaker 1: come back and repeat some topics. I'm just saying this
- 37:19Speaker 1: to say, I'm going to talk about some stuff here
- 37:22Speaker 1: that if it doesn't fully connect for you, especially on alignment,
- 37:26Speaker 1: we have other episodes about this, and alignment is also
- 37:28Speaker 1: one of the core topics of Mindset Mastery. That is
- 37:32Speaker 1: our second program that you can jump into and be
- 37:35Speaker 1: a part of with us where we teach some of
- 37:37Speaker 1: our most important topics in a very, very in-depth way,
- 37:40Speaker 1: more like a classroom. You can just listen to the
- 37:42Speaker 1: podcast and that's great, but you can get in the
- 37:44Speaker 1: classroom with Mindset Mastery and also get on calls with
- 37:48Speaker 1: us and ask questions. All right, number two, align to multiply.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Multiplication comes from the quality of the alignment. Let me
- 37:57Speaker 1: talk about alignment really quick here. This is one of
- 38:00Speaker 1: the most beautiful, and I love talking about these types
- 38:02Speaker 1: of topics, where it is a scriptural principle, but there
- 38:08Speaker 1: is a natural supernatural correlation here. There is math between
- 38:12Speaker 1: how these things work and how you win in life. Multiplication,
- 38:17Speaker 1: it's what we all want, and it's the right way
- 38:20Speaker 1: to grow anything. Instead of just addition of like, oh,
- 38:22Speaker 1: we just got one more Or we acquired one more
- 38:25Speaker 1: customer that here's what you want in your sales business
- 38:28Speaker 1: is if you're producing a product, you want customers to
- 38:31Speaker 1: create customers.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:32Speaker 1: That's multiplication.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Not every customer we ever acquired, we had to pay,
- 38:36Speaker 1: you know, 75 cents per customer for a product we sell.
- 38:39Speaker 2: For a dollar, right?
- 38:41Speaker 1: And then you have cost of the product and all that.
- 38:43Speaker 1: That's expensive.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Real growth is multiplication. And this is exactly how Jesus multiplied,
- 38:50Speaker 1: by the way. Think about it. Whether you believe that
- 38:54Speaker 1: Jesus Christ is the Son of God or not, and
- 38:55Speaker 1: if you listen to this podcast, you most likely do.
- 38:58Speaker 1: But whether or not you believe that or not, he
- 39:01Speaker 1: is without a doubt, without question, the most famous and
- 39:04Speaker 1: most impactful person who has ever lived. Oh, yeah. Who
- 39:07Speaker 1: has ever lived. That's without question. That's not a debated topic.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Jesus is the most famous person who's ever lived. And
- 39:15Speaker 1: think about the life that he lived. He didn't speak
- 39:19Speaker 1: in the biggest stadiums that have ever existed. He didn't
- 39:21Speaker 1: exist at the time of the internet or radio or
- 39:25Speaker 1: any of the ways to be able to broadcast across
- 39:28Speaker 1: the world. He barely went very far. from where he
- 39:30Speaker 1: lived and he only spoke to a limited amount of people.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Yet he's the most famous man who ever lived. And
- 39:35Speaker 1: so how did he grow his ministry? Well, you were
- 39:38Speaker 1: talking about the growth of the early church. What it
- 39:40Speaker 1: started with, Jesus, yes, he spoke messages, but then he said,
- 39:44Speaker 1: follow me. And the people who followed him were his disciples.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And there's a lesson in what Jesus said to his
- 39:51Speaker 1: disciples that is one of the core lessons of discipleship
- 39:55Speaker 1: that expands to how you grow a team. It's how
- 39:57Speaker 1: you grow anything if you want it to really grow,
- 39:59Speaker 1: that it's not just your... You know what Jesus isn't
- 40:02Speaker 1: still here on the earth doing? He's not still here
- 40:04Speaker 1: in person preaching his message. Right. We all preach it
- 40:07Speaker 1: for him now. Yeah, no kidding.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Right?
- 40:09Speaker 1: And if you wanna live a life or have a
- 40:12Speaker 1: business that it's like, man, why do I keep having
- 40:15Speaker 1: to do all of this? You've never learned about multiplication, okay?
- 40:20Speaker 1: Luke chapter 6, verse 40, a disciple is not above
- 40:25Speaker 1: his teacher, but everyone then when they are fully trained
- 40:28Speaker 1: will be like their teacher. Said in a different translation,
- 40:32Speaker 1: it says the student is not greater than the master,
- 40:34Speaker 1: but the student can do everything that the master can do, right?
- 40:38Speaker 1: Jesus is saying, look, and it's one of the last
- 40:40Speaker 1: things that Jesus said before he died. He said to
- 40:42Speaker 1: his disciples, you'll do even greater things than I did,
- 40:45Speaker 1: which is a radical statement when you look at Jesus's life.
- 40:48Speaker 1: What did Jesus say? He's like, hey, look, man, I'm
- 40:50Speaker 1: not trying to get you guys to just be my fans, okay?
- 40:53Speaker 1: You have to be just like me. I'm going to
- 40:54Speaker 1: teach you everything that I know, and I'm going to
- 40:56Speaker 1: teach it to you so well that when I'm gone,
- 40:59Speaker 1: you don't need me anymore. Like Jesus said, the poor
- 41:02Speaker 1: will always be among you, but I won't always be.
- 41:05Speaker 1: He said that after he taught a lesson on the poor.
- 41:07Speaker 1: And it was not an indictment on the poor. And
- 41:08Speaker 1: that's the way a lot of people hear that verse.
- 41:10Speaker 1: What Jesus is saying is, I just did this. One
- 41:13Speaker 1: day it's going to be your turn. This is what
- 41:15Speaker 1: real multiplication and discipleship comes from. But the point here is,
- 41:19Speaker 1: and I'm just talking about multiplication for a second to
- 41:22Speaker 1: set up the point. The point here is align to multiply. Okay.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Alignment is one of the things we talk about in
- 41:28Speaker 1: mindset mastery. Alignment is not like, hey, these are my boys.
- 41:32Speaker 1: We like the same things. That's what a lot of
- 41:33Speaker 1: people think. Or you get into like, church, Christianese world,
- 41:37Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, alignment, like we all go to
- 41:39Speaker 1: the same church. Not in alignment, okay? I'm going to reset.
- 41:42Speaker 1: If that's your definition of alignment, let me reset you, okay?
- 41:45Speaker 1: Alignment is not we like the same things. Alignment is
- 41:49Speaker 1: we share the same values and we have the exact
- 41:52Speaker 1: same objective. When I was in the military, I didn't
- 41:55Speaker 1: need guys to go to church with me for us
- 41:57Speaker 1: to have alignment. What I had was I had people
- 42:00Speaker 1: who had paid the same price that I had. who
- 42:02Speaker 1: had the same set of values about this nation, about
- 42:05Speaker 1: our military that I did, and they had been through
- 42:07Speaker 1: a process where they knew how to focus and put
- 42:10Speaker 1: the mission above themselves the same way that I did.
- 42:12Speaker 1: So when we sat in a mission brief and we
- 42:14Speaker 1: heard the commander, or in my case, my first deployment,
- 42:18Speaker 1: literally had the president tell us, okay, this is what
- 42:20Speaker 1: I need you to do, that we could then turn
- 42:23Speaker 1: and I could count on my teammates to give their
- 42:26Speaker 1: life for me or me for them and us for
- 42:29Speaker 1: the mission. And what made us so capable, there was
- 42:32Speaker 1: multiplication here where 20 men could do what a thousand
- 42:35Speaker 1: men couldn't. And it wasn't because we had better guns
- 42:38Speaker 1: or necessarily we had a little bit better training. We
- 42:41Speaker 1: had both of those things, but they've tried giving those
- 42:43Speaker 1: things to people who don't think this way and they
- 42:46Speaker 1: don't get the same results. The multiplication comes from perfect alignment.
- 42:51Speaker 1: We are in exact sync. Jesus said to his disciples
- 42:55Speaker 1: what it was going to cost for them to be
- 42:57Speaker 1: like him. Everything. And Jesus isn't greedy. God's not greedy.
- 43:03Speaker 1: He's saying, anything that you hold on to in yourself
- 43:06Speaker 1: that's like you and not like me, you won't be
- 43:09Speaker 1: like me. And if you're not like me, you can't
- 43:10Speaker 1: do what I can do. You want to walk on
- 43:12Speaker 1: the water? It requires full faith. A great example of
- 43:17Speaker 1: just this multiplication process is, I'll just make an analogy
- 43:22Speaker 1: for you here. It would be like, on one hand,
- 43:25Speaker 1: you could be the author of many books, okay? Or
- 43:27Speaker 1: you could go preach a lot of messages and you
- 43:31Speaker 1: get all these people saved. That's great. You get all
- 43:33Speaker 1: these people saved, but you just got them saved. And
- 43:36Speaker 1: if you have been walking with God for any number
- 43:38Speaker 1: of time, you know that people can get saved in
- 43:40Speaker 1: their life, not necessarily be transformed, right? God will do
- 43:44Speaker 1: a work in you. But if you don't enroll in
- 43:46Speaker 1: the process, if you don't get discipled, if you don't
- 43:49Speaker 1: learn how to hear his voice, your life doesn't change.
- 43:51Speaker 1: And you're certainly not going to lead anybody else to
- 43:53Speaker 1: the gospel. Now, there are people, I have multiple friends
- 43:56Speaker 1: that have a personal story of like the Apostle Paul,
- 43:59Speaker 1: where God like shook them up in a hotel room,
- 44:01Speaker 1: everything changed in their life. And it wasn't all in
- 44:04Speaker 1: an instant, but they didn't get a lot of discipleship
- 44:07Speaker 1: and they grew through a process radically changed and have
- 44:09Speaker 1: brought others to Christ. I'm not saying, I'm not putting
- 44:11Speaker 1: a box on what God can or can't do, but
- 44:14Speaker 1: I am telling what the Bible says is his process.
- 44:16Speaker 1: And his process was, I discipled people and those disciples
- 44:20Speaker 1: discipled other disciples and those disciples discipled other disciples. So
- 44:24Speaker 1: instead of one times 5,000, which is 5,000, it's 12
- 44:27Speaker 1: times 12 times 12 times 12 times 12 times 12
- 44:30Speaker 1: times 12, continual, and you get a massive number on
- 44:34Speaker 1: the other end versus just what is the effort of
- 44:37Speaker 1: one man. So it'd be like someone who's the author
- 44:39Speaker 1: of many books, that's great. Or you get a teacher
- 44:43Speaker 1: who's not creating students, but he's creating other teachers. And
- 44:46Speaker 1: this is, by the way, this is what disciple means.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Disciple means student, but it's continual student. I have to
- 44:51Speaker 1: say teacher because we're so ingrained into what that word means.
- 44:55Speaker 1: But a student used to mean someone who was of
- 44:57Speaker 1: a certain philosophy and they perpetuated that philosophy.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Right. By the way, if you want to get more
- 45:01Speaker 2: information on the alignments, like what you talked about, episode
- 45:04Speaker 2: 201 is the one to look into. We dive deep
- 45:06Speaker 2: into friendships and talk about what alignments are in more detail.
- 45:09Speaker 2: So like Garrett said, it's all cumulative.
- 45:11Speaker 1: So last thing here on this point, right? We're talking
- 45:14Speaker 1: about how to get the growth out of your life
- 45:17Speaker 1: and the understanding, the perspectives you have to have. The
- 45:20Speaker 1: endure to grow portion, we covered that now on align
- 45:23Speaker 1: to multiply here. I've talked about multiplication. I've talked about alignment, okay?
- 45:29Speaker 1: I've explained what alignment is. If you want to get
- 45:31Speaker 1: what you're called to get out of life, you have
- 45:33Speaker 1: to learn this concept and bring it into everything that
- 45:36Speaker 1: you do. I don't just mean your sales process. I
- 45:38Speaker 1: don't just mean how you speak to your team. Everything
- 45:41Speaker 1: in your life, you got to get the things that
- 45:43Speaker 1: you care about. You got to get your mission very
- 45:46Speaker 1: clear to you, to everyone around you, And everyone has
- 45:49Speaker 1: to be in strict alignment to that. Otherwise, you're not
- 45:52Speaker 1: going to get multiplication. You're just going to get addition.
- 45:54Speaker 1: And addition is disappointing when you look at the results
- 45:57Speaker 1: of your life. Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 2: As a guy who loves math, you know, that's deeply
- 46:00Speaker 2: meaningful to you.
- 46:01Speaker 1: You know, you don't have to love math to understand
- 46:02Speaker 1: that multiplication is better than addition.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Would you rather have your money squared or would
- 46:06Speaker 2: you rather just add 100? Well, you know, I guess
- 46:08Speaker 2: it depends on what size. Dang it. See, that shows
- 46:10Speaker 2: that I'm not the math guy.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Just keep going. Sorry. I love how you clowned on
- 46:15Speaker 1: yourself there. That was great.
- 46:16Speaker 2: DJ Khaled, you played yourself.
- 46:17Speaker 1: All right. Number three here. Last one. So you have
- 46:21Speaker 1: to endure to grow. You have to align to multiply.
- 46:24Speaker 1: And number three, you have to fight division.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:28Speaker 1: And I'm don't hear this as just math, but you've
- 46:31Speaker 1: got to fight division. There are things in your life
- 46:34Speaker 1: that will rob you of your destiny. There are things
- 46:36Speaker 1: in your life that will rob you of the compounding
- 46:39Speaker 1: returns of growth.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I use this example, I don't know, a month or
- 46:43Speaker 1: two months ago, talking about compound interest and then taxes.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Compound interest is awesome until you start wiping out 30%
- 46:50Speaker 1: every year. When you wipe out 30% every year, it
- 46:53Speaker 1: looks way more like addition.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 46:54Speaker 1: And so you can get some of the things right,
- 46:57Speaker 1: but if you start allowing some of these divisions into
- 47:01Speaker 1: your life, you rob yourself of the possibility of what
- 47:06Speaker 1: could have been your life. Biblically speaking, what division looks
- 47:10Speaker 1: like Because there's a promise for you. God had a
- 47:12Speaker 1: promise for his people. And the division of that promise,
- 47:15Speaker 1: what beat it down, what made it last longer, what
- 47:18Speaker 1: made it hurt, what made it not be as good,
- 47:20Speaker 1: the division of that promise always came from a lack
- 47:23Speaker 1: of obedience, okay? And I think what people struggle with
- 47:28Speaker 1: sometimes today is like, well, I'm not an Old Testament
- 47:31Speaker 1: king where God sent a prophet and spoke to me
- 47:33Speaker 1: and gave a direct set of instructions. I don't understand
- 47:36Speaker 1: how I'm disobeying. And I would challenge back to you, yes,
- 47:39Speaker 1: you do, okay? What that Old Testament king didn't have
- 47:42Speaker 1: was the Holy Spirit. He didn't have the conviction of
- 47:45Speaker 1: God in his heart saying, that's right and that's wrong.
- 47:48Speaker 1: And at the root of all disobedience, it's primarily a
- 47:52Speaker 1: hard issue. And what we need in our lives, how
- 47:56Speaker 1: you're going to fight that division is on a daily basis.
- 47:59Speaker 1: If you don't learn how to manage your taxes and
- 48:01Speaker 1: have a great tax strategy, it's like, I'm just going
- 48:03Speaker 1: to cut down trees harder. You can try that, but
- 48:07Speaker 1: it will eat you up. You've got to learn how
- 48:09Speaker 1: to defeat these things that are trying to come into
- 48:11Speaker 1: your house and eat your food when you're not looking.
- 48:14Speaker 1: And in this context, it is having a heart that
- 48:17Speaker 1: is not continually renewing itself towards God. If you allow
- 48:23Speaker 1: wrong things into your heart and just say, well, I'm
- 48:25Speaker 1: going to, I'll just do it the way that I
- 48:27Speaker 1: think I should do it. And one day God will
- 48:29Speaker 1: reward me. And when I get all the money or
- 48:31Speaker 1: I get the reward or I get the success, I'll
- 48:33Speaker 1: get right with God at that point. If you walk
- 48:36Speaker 1: down that road, if you believe that lie, you allow
- 48:39Speaker 1: corruption into your life. And that corruption, you know, I
- 48:42Speaker 1: said earlier, pain properly processed leads to great growth, okay?
- 48:48Speaker 1: But if you allow this corrupt thought in, if you
- 48:50Speaker 1: allow corruption into your heart, it'll take that pain that
- 48:53Speaker 1: you've experienced, it'll turn it into a grudge, it'll turn
- 48:55Speaker 1: it into contempt for God, it'll turn it into entitlement
- 48:59Speaker 1: towards God. And the only way that you're going to
- 49:03Speaker 1: see the great promise that God has for your life,
- 49:05Speaker 1: it's not crossing a certain finish line. It's the level
- 49:08Speaker 1: of growth that happened in you. And if you're not
- 49:11Speaker 1: growing in a spiritual process, if you're not purifying your
- 49:14Speaker 1: heart and continuing to root out new things, right? I
- 49:18Speaker 1: loved when we had dinner with John Bevere a few
- 49:20Speaker 1: months ago, and he was talking about some of that
- 49:22Speaker 1: same thought, same concept in his life where it's like, man,
- 49:26Speaker 1: as further I've gone, the more I've had to deal
- 49:28Speaker 1: with myself, the more I've had to manage myself. That
- 49:31Speaker 1: is the great growth that God wants in your life.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And it's the division if you don't do it. That's
- 49:35Speaker 1: the division of what's possible in your life when you're
- 49:39Speaker 1: not continually renewing your heart before God.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Yeah, in episode 258, we went into that even more
- 49:44Speaker 2: on guard your heart. And gee, that's 100% where I'm at, man.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I find that as I walk closer to the Lord,
- 49:50Speaker 2: what happens is my sensitivity as to why I'm doing
- 49:53Speaker 2: what I'm doing grows. And I like literally, you know,
- 49:56Speaker 2: you said it and it stuck out to me and
- 49:58Speaker 2: I've told it to so many people. You get on
- 49:59Speaker 2: your knees every day and you say, Lord, if it's
- 50:00Speaker 2: not from you, I don't want it. And you really
- 50:02Speaker 2: mean it. That's you checking your heart. I feel like
- 50:05Speaker 2: at this point in my life, my heart management is
- 50:08Speaker 2: like an all the time thing. It's like checking your
- 50:10Speaker 2: blood glucose. If you had a diabetes, I have to
- 50:12Speaker 2: do it multiple times every day. And I'm constantly like,
- 50:15Speaker 2: I'm going, Lord, help me with this. And I'm examining
- 50:18Speaker 2: it because I feel like I'm becoming more sensitive to it.
- 50:20Speaker 2: And it's not from me. It is truly the Holy spirit,
- 50:23Speaker 2: like revealing to me the things in me. And dude,
- 50:25Speaker 2: thank God he didn't do it at the beginning. Cause
- 50:27Speaker 2: it would have been crushing, but it's like, man, it's
- 50:29Speaker 2: just the ongoing place is right there in the heart
- 50:31Speaker 2: every day. Could not be more true.
- 50:34Speaker 1: John chapter 12, verse 34 and 35. This is about unity, okay?
- 50:41Speaker 1: And where, what unity comes from, now this is a,
- 50:44Speaker 1: this is obviously in the Bible, this is a biblical concept, okay?
- 50:48Speaker 1: And unity is about being one in Christ and one
- 50:51Speaker 1: in love. But this is also a print, there's a
- 50:53Speaker 1: principle to this, right? You could take it and make
- 50:56Speaker 1: it not a God issue. We talk about some of
- 50:58Speaker 1: this stuff on the podcast sometimes. There are people out
- 51:00Speaker 1: there who get biblical principles. They take Jesus out of them.
- 51:03Speaker 1: But God made a world of order. And the principles
- 51:06Speaker 1: that he made, they work the same way. Now, the
- 51:10Speaker 1: final principle is that if you don't have Christ, if
- 51:13Speaker 1: you don't have love, you have nothing. But you can
- 51:16Speaker 1: get a lot of nothing in your life with those
- 51:19Speaker 1: principles that lead to certain outcomes, okay? So this principle
- 51:22Speaker 1: of unity and division is part of that. This principle
- 51:25Speaker 1: of unity, it works with or without God. If you,
- 51:30Speaker 1: for example, I use the military one all the time. right?
- 51:33Speaker 1: There was high unity on that team as far as
- 51:36Speaker 1: what the mission required, right? We were not all of
- 51:39Speaker 1: the same belief system. We didn't all serve Christ, but
- 51:42Speaker 1: when it came to what it took to do the
- 51:43Speaker 1: job as related to the mission, extreme unity.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Tower of Babel is a great example in the Bible
- 51:49Speaker 2: where God literally says, if we don't separate them, there's
- 51:51Speaker 2: nothing they can't accomplish. That's a big statement.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:54Speaker 1: But a lack of unity comes from not having a
- 51:57Speaker 1: love of the mission. You start making it about you.
- 52:00Speaker 1: And that's one of like, Because where I talked about
- 52:03Speaker 1: division comes from you having a wrong heart. Well, essentially
- 52:07Speaker 1: that wrong heart is you make it about you. I
- 52:11Speaker 1: live my life through some really core statements because when
- 52:15Speaker 1: I've been through the most difficult things in my life
- 52:17Speaker 1: and had some of my greatest successes, it wasn't a
- 52:20Speaker 1: giant book that I had memorized. It was a couple
- 52:23Speaker 1: of core statements that just kept me going. And one
- 52:25Speaker 1: of the core statements that you should have heard from
- 52:27Speaker 1: this podcast and needs to be a part of your
- 52:29Speaker 1: life is if you want to live a miserable life,
- 52:32Speaker 1: make it all about you. If you want to live
- 52:33Speaker 1: a great life, make it all about other people. And
- 52:36Speaker 1: this is John chapter 12, verse 34 through 35. A
- 52:40Speaker 1: new command I give you, love one another as I
- 52:44Speaker 1: have loved you, so you must love one another. By this,
- 52:48Speaker 1: everyone will know that you are my disciples if you
- 52:53Speaker 1: love one another.
- 52:55Speaker 2: And yeah, that... You know, think about the mindset. I
- 52:57Speaker 2: don't think we have the same mindset when you hear
- 52:59Speaker 2: the word command. Jesus didn't give a ton of commands
- 53:02Speaker 2: when he was on.
- 53:03Speaker 1: He didn't, no.
- 53:04Speaker 2: So for him to say a new command... Now, keep
- 53:06Speaker 2: in mind, these are the people of Israel. What did
- 53:08Speaker 2: they have given to them?
- 53:09Speaker 1: That was also a statement that just made the Pharisees
- 53:12Speaker 1: sharpen their swords of like, who are you to be
- 53:14Speaker 1: able to give us a command?
- 53:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 53:16Speaker 1: You don't write commands.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Why? Because only God does. And that's what I'm saying.
- 53:19Speaker 2: The mindset of the people he was speaking to When
- 53:23Speaker 2: he used the word command, I don't know that we
- 53:26Speaker 2: have a same level of depth of meaning for a word.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Because if we say law, people break the laws all
- 53:32Speaker 2: the time. But the commandments were what they.
- 53:35Speaker 1: It's an amendment to the Constitution.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Yeah, a new amendment to the Constitution. It's like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 53:38Speaker 2: we haven't had one of those in a while. Yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 2: that's a great example. Thank you, G. I don't think
- 53:43Speaker 2: there's an example like.
- 53:44Speaker 1: It's a marginal example, but it gets the job done. Yeah,
- 53:46Speaker 1: it gets the point across. Colossians 1, verses 10. I
- 53:50Speaker 1: appeal to you, brothers... by the name of our Lord
- 53:53Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there
- 53:57Speaker 1: be no divisions among you, but that you be united
- 54:00Speaker 1: in the same mind and the same judgment. What are
- 54:04Speaker 1: we talking about here in Colossians? What he's saying is
- 54:07Speaker 1: how important, how important it is that you all get
- 54:11Speaker 1: on the same page. He knew what multiplication came from,
- 54:15Speaker 1: from true alignment, from a lack of division. We must
- 54:18Speaker 1: be of one mind. There must be no discord. And again,
- 54:23Speaker 1: this point here, like fight division builds on top of
- 54:25Speaker 1: the second point of a line to multiply. But the
- 54:29Speaker 1: fight division part is a very personal fight with you.
- 54:32Speaker 1: It's you and yourself deciding not to make it about you,
- 54:35Speaker 1: but to be about the mission, to love one another.
- 54:39Speaker 1: When you love other people, it gives you the power
- 54:42Speaker 1: to fight off the division. When you make everything about you,
- 54:46Speaker 1: you turn into a sword and you chop down everyone
- 54:49Speaker 1: around you. It's all about me. It's all about what
- 54:51Speaker 1: I want. And you get angry at God. And it becomes,
- 54:54Speaker 1: instead of you getting to be on God's team, it
- 54:56Speaker 1: turns into you versus God. And God, why aren't you
- 54:58Speaker 1: doing this for me? And God, why aren't you doing that?
- 55:01Speaker 2: Right?
- 55:01Speaker 1: So this is what fight division is about. Ultimately, what
- 55:04Speaker 1: I want you to take away from today, there's a
- 55:06Speaker 1: few key things, right? You got to endure so that
- 55:09Speaker 1: you can grow, so you can see God's plan for
- 55:11Speaker 1: your life. You have to understand what was a mystery,
- 55:14Speaker 1: but it's not if you listen to this podcast, but
- 55:16Speaker 1: you have to understand the principles. of alignment and multiplication.
- 55:21Speaker 1: If you want greatness in your life, it's not an
- 55:24Speaker 1: addition process. And then you've got to do the daily,
- 55:27Speaker 1: the daily of fighting off division in your life. And
- 55:30Speaker 1: I promise you, if you learn these things and you'll
- 55:32Speaker 1: learn to live by these things, what you'll realize one day,
- 55:37Speaker 1: your time will come, like scripture says, that at the
- 55:40Speaker 1: proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do
- 55:43Speaker 1: not give up. That harvest will be greater and greater
- 55:47Speaker 1: and greater than you could have ever imagined for yourself.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Don't give up.
