Speaker 1: The two pilots were rescued out of the water by
• 0:03
Speaker 1: an unmanned seed drone operated by Task Force fifty nine
• 0:06
  Speaker 1: in Bahrain.
• 0:07
Speaker 2: The drones Texas made.
• 0:08
Speaker 1: It's twenty four feet long and can travel one thousand
• 0:12
Speaker 1: miles and hit speeds of thirty five knots and it's
• 0:15
Speaker 1: the first sea drone rescue in combat.
• 0:17
Speaker 3: As you're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with
• 0:21
  Speaker 3: Ben ferguson.
• 0:22
Speaker 4: Good Wednesday morning, nice to have you with us on
• 0:23
Speaker 4: the forty seven Morning Update, and we've got one big
• 0:26
Speaker 4: story for you, and it involves an incredible rescue of
• 0:30
Speaker 4: two service members that were shot down in an Apache
• 0:33
Speaker 4: helicopter by Iran. What's amazing about the story is how
• 0:37
Speaker 4: they were saved and it was by a drone. Senator
• 0:41
Speaker 4: Cruz join me to talk about this amazing rescue, and
• 0:45
Speaker 4: we have all of it for you. But before we
• 0:47
Speaker 4: get to that, I want to take a moment and
• 0:49
Speaker 4: talk to you about how you can get involved with
• 0:51
Speaker 4: Compassion International and have a real impact. I want to
• 0:55
Speaker 4: be honest with you for a second about how an
• 0:57
Speaker 4: act of compassion really feels. Couple of years ago, I
• 1:01
Speaker 4: made the choice to partner with an amazing organization called
• 1:05
Speaker 4: Compassion International. Why because I wanted to sponsor a child
• 1:09
Speaker 4: in need. It was a nice idea, sure, but I
• 1:13
Speaker 4: had no idea just how much that simple act would
• 1:16
Speaker 4: change my life as well. I sponsored Nadia and got
• 1:20
Speaker 4: to watch your life change right in front of my eyes,
• 1:23
Speaker 4: going from starving literally alone on the streets, to getting
• 1:27
Speaker 4: the healthcare and education she needs to reach her God
• 1:31
Speaker 4: given full potential. I got to be a part of
• 1:34
Speaker 4: that change. And the light of that compassion not only
• 1:38
Speaker 4: illuminates in her, it illuminates now in me. That is
• 1:42
Speaker 4: the power of compassion. The light of Christ shines on
• 1:46
Speaker 4: all of us. Feel it for yourself and change literally
• 1:50
Speaker 4: a child's life, change the world, and you also change yourself.
• 1:55
Speaker 4: You can sponsor child today. Visit Compassion dot com. That
• 2:00
Speaker 4: Compassion dot com. It's the forty seven Morning Update and
• 2:04
Speaker 4: it starts right now.
• 2:05
  Speaker 3: Story number one.
• 2:06
Speaker 4: All right, so Center, let's get into this first story.
• 2:10
Speaker 4: And you said it best. Welcome to just Technology. In
• 2:15
Speaker 4: twenty twenty six, for the first time in history, you
• 2:19
Speaker 4: had a drone boat that saved the lives of two
• 2:23
Speaker 4: Americans that were shot down by Iran.
• 2:26
Speaker 2: There's no pilot like no one on board.
• 2:28
Speaker 4: This is a boat just like a drone in the
• 2:31
Speaker 4: sky that is controlled by you know, a joystick, and
• 2:35
Speaker 4: it was able to go extremely fast, get these guys
• 2:40
Speaker 4: and get out before the enemy could touch them.
• 2:43
  Speaker 2: This is unbelievable.
• 2:44
Speaker 4: And the best part is this technology is coming out
• 2:47
Speaker 4: of the United States American in fact, it's coming out
• 2:50
  Speaker 4: of Texas well.
• 2:52
Speaker 5: It's not even directly controlled by a joystick. It's actually
• 2:55
Speaker 5: AI that controls this. And this is a company based
• 2:58
Speaker 5: in Austin. I've been to their factory. I've seen their factory.
• 3:00
Speaker 5: It's amazing that they're building these ships. And the ships
• 3:05
Speaker 5: are and they have all sorts of different sizes. They
• 3:07
Speaker 5: have bigger ones, they have smaller ones. They're going to
• 3:09
Speaker 5: have drone ships that are over one hundred and fifty
• 3:13
Speaker 5: feet long that are big ships. But they also have
• 3:17
Speaker 5: smaller military vessels. And then they have really small drones.
• 3:21
Speaker 5: And these drones can do all sorts of things. They're
• 3:23
Speaker 5: all boats, but they can do surveillance, they can do espionage,
• 3:27
Speaker 5: they can do military combat, they could be armed with weaponry.
• 3:32
Speaker 5: They can transport supplies if you're trying to say resupply
• 3:37
Speaker 5: soldiers that are in a form forward combat position, they
• 3:40
Speaker 5: can resupply them. So this is all coming out of Austin, Texas.
• 3:44
Speaker 5: It's amazing technology and what precipitated it is that that
• 3:50
Speaker 5: earl earlier today, an armed Iranian shah Head drones struck
• 3:56
Speaker 5: a US Apache helicopter and it went down in the
• 3:59
Speaker 5: sea off the coast of Oman on Monday. US Central
• 4:04
Speaker 5: Command reported that the helicopter was on patrol when it
• 4:06
Speaker 5: was struck by the drone, but the two pilots who
• 4:10
Speaker 5: were aboard the Apache helicopter were safely rescued with it
• 4:13
Speaker 5: about two hours of the strike. And it's worth here
• 4:19
Speaker 5: we're going to play the Fox News report that covered it,
• 4:22
Speaker 5: and for those of you who are watching this on YouTube,
• 4:25
Speaker 5: you can watch the video of this drone ship that
• 4:29
Speaker 5: was responsible for rescuing our soldiers in combat. Give a
• 4:33
Speaker 5: list and give a watch.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: Deron's under attack. Trump ordered Sentcom to launch self defense
• 4:38
Speaker 1: strikes after an enemy drone took down an Apache helicopter
• 4:42
Speaker 1: patrolling the strait. The two pilots were rescued out of
• 4:45
Speaker 1: the water by an unmanned sea drone operated by Task
• 4:49
Speaker 1: Force fifty nine in Bahrain. The drones Texas made it's
• 4:52
Speaker 1: twenty four feet long and can travel one thousand miles
• 4:56
Speaker 1: and hit speeds of thirty five knots, and it's the
• 4:59
Speaker 1: first see drone rescue in combat history.
• 5:02
Speaker 2: Trump was on the phone with the press when he
• 5:05
  Speaker 2: gave the order.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: Podas said, this is a retaliation for the helicopter hit,
• 5:09
Speaker 1: and it's important that our response is strong and powerful.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: Sincom called our response proportional. But sources say we're taking
• 5:17
Speaker 1: out Iranian air defenses, radar systems all along the Straight
• 5:20
Speaker 1: and we're not finished technically. I know it doesn't seem
• 5:24
Speaker 1: like it, but we're still in a ceasefire. And the
• 5:27
Speaker 1: President continues to say we're close to a.
• 5:30
Speaker 5: Deal where in the final throes of what will be
• 5:34
Speaker 5: a very very good deal that will not allow in
• 5:37
Speaker 5: any way, shape or form, nuclear weapons, etc.
• 5:40
Speaker 2: And then Straight will open up right away.
• 5:43
Speaker 5: It'll open up immediately upon signing, which could be in
• 5:46
Speaker 5: two or three days.
• 5:47
Speaker 1: Trump's made the terms clear. The uranium must be turned
• 5:49
Speaker 1: over and destroyed. Enrichment must stop for two decades at least,
• 5:54
Speaker 1: all nuclear sites must be completely dismantled, and the United
• 5:57
Speaker 1: States is able to conduct snap inspects whenever the heck
• 6:01
  Speaker 1: we want.
• 6:02
Speaker 4: You listen that report and it goes back to the
• 6:04
Speaker 4: bigger issue in the war and what we're trying to
• 6:06
Speaker 4: accomplish their senator. But you go back to just the
• 6:09
Speaker 4: beginning of it. Thirty five knots. That's about forty miles
• 6:13
Speaker 4: an hour in rough seas. That's incredibly fast, especially if
• 6:16
Speaker 4: you're twenty five foot boat.
• 6:18
Speaker 2: As they described here.
• 6:19
Speaker 4: This technology allows these boats to go faster than what
• 6:23
Speaker 4: most like if you're a human riding in a boat
• 6:25
Speaker 4: and heavy seas and rough seas, going at that speed
• 6:28
Speaker 4: is going to be very risky to you. This takes
• 6:31
Speaker 4: that away as well, which again talks about how the
• 6:34
Speaker 4: speed they were able to actually get to these two
• 6:38
Speaker 4: pilots that have been shot down.
• 6:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, and look, it's a manifestation of the new age
• 6:43
Speaker 5: of warfare where where these drone ships are not massively expensive.
• 6:50
Speaker 5: You look at aircraft carriers and expensive ships that can
• 6:55
Speaker 5: cost hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars that
• 6:58
Speaker 5: are powered with nuclear reactor. That's been how we've approached
• 7:02
Speaker 5: naval power for seventy years, and now we have a
• 7:08
Speaker 5: scenario where these drones are not terribly expensive to be built.
• 7:12
Speaker 5: They can be built at scale, and you can deploy
• 7:15
Speaker 5: one of them, or ten of them, or a thousand
• 7:17
Speaker 5: of them or ten thousand of them, and the ability
• 7:21
Speaker 5: and with AI you can control Look, ten thousand in
• 7:25
Speaker 5: a normal world, you'd have to have ten thousand captains
• 7:28
Speaker 5: piloting them. You could have AI and you can assign.
• 7:32
Speaker 5: You could assign, for example, ten thousand drone ships patrol
• 7:36
Speaker 5: this area. AI can direct them, but they're searching and
• 7:40
Speaker 5: they'll engage in espionage and gain engage in reporting on
• 7:45
Speaker 5: what they find. You can train them to protect, protect
• 7:49
Speaker 5: a particular ship, protect something that's going on, protect a
• 7:53
Speaker 5: port or harbor. They can do that. You can assign
• 7:56
Speaker 5: them go intercept this vessel. And if they're armed with
• 7:59
Speaker 5: ordnance that they can fire torpedoes, they can have explosives.
• 8:04
Speaker 5: And because the ships themselves are not super expensive, it
• 8:08
Speaker 5: also means that if you lose one ship or ten
• 8:13
Speaker 5: or one hundred, it's not the end of the world.
• 8:14
Speaker 5: It's not that is risks. Yeah, and it's look, we're
• 8:19
Speaker 5: saying the same thing with aerial drones, where we're headed
• 8:22
Speaker 5: very quickly to a world and some of this we're
• 8:24
Speaker 5: actually getting some foreshadowing of this with the war in
• 8:27
Speaker 5: Ukraine where the battle between Ukraine and Russia, much of
• 8:30
Speaker 5: it is involving drones and the ability to have thousands
• 8:33
Speaker 5: or tens of thousands of drones and instead of one big,
• 8:37
Speaker 5: really expensive thing, lots and lots of smaller, less expensive
• 8:42
Speaker 5: things which can overwhelm the previous technology. And I got
• 8:47
Speaker 5: to say that having been to the factory. Look, these
• 8:51
Speaker 5: guys are a startup at Austin, Texas. I know, I
• 8:54
Speaker 5: know the CEO, I know the lead funders, and they're
• 8:57
Speaker 5: you know, young techies who are entrepreneurial, who have a
• 9:02
Speaker 5: vision and their desire to scale this. It is very cool.
• 9:08
Speaker 5: This is the first drone rescue at sea in combat
• 9:13
Speaker 5: in the history of the world. And you know what,
• 9:14
Speaker 5: this is not going to be the last. We're going
• 9:16
Speaker 5: to see a lot more. By the way, there are
• 9:18
Speaker 5: civilian applications of this that have nothing to do with combat. Look,
• 9:22
Speaker 5: look the Coast Guard.
• 9:24
  Speaker 2: I would say.
• 9:24
Speaker 4: I literally was talking the Coastguard as we were on
• 9:27
Speaker 4: family vacation and one of the guys I saw and
• 9:30
Speaker 4: you know, just saying things. But one of the things
• 9:32
Speaker 4: that was cool they were talking about is technology. They
• 9:35
Speaker 4: said a lot of times the helicopters when there's the
• 9:39
Speaker 4: worst weather and boats get in trouble, they can be
• 9:41
Speaker 4: commercial vessels, they can be recreational, they can be commercial
• 9:45
Speaker 4: fishing boats when things get really bad with weather. Unfortunately,
• 9:49
Speaker 4: sometimes the weather's too bad to go out right at
• 9:52
Speaker 4: that moment in a.
• 9:52
Speaker 2: Helicopter because it's so bad.
• 9:55
Speaker 4: But if you have drones that you can risk no
• 9:58
Speaker 4: life going out there, it changes the entire way that
• 10:02
Speaker 4: it works. And they're similar that are afraid, like, hey,
• 10:04
Speaker 4: well that's gonna take jobs and in a way human beings.
• 10:07
Speaker 4: But if you can't be there in that moment and
• 10:10
Speaker 4: you can send out a drone that could quite possibly
• 10:13
Speaker 4: save your life, that a normal if it's if it's
• 10:16
Speaker 4: if it's you know, man controlled, you just can't take
• 10:19
Speaker 4: that risk and you come back it's too rough. You
• 10:22
Speaker 4: can throw drones out there and save countless lives in
• 10:25
Speaker 4: that scenario. This is technology that is life changing.
• 10:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, and I will say, Ben, have you ever met
• 10:32
  Speaker 5: Coast Guard swimmers?
• 10:34
  Speaker 2: Yes, they're unbelievable.
• 10:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I mean they're kind of they're the equivalent
• 10:38
Speaker 5: of Navy seals or Delta Force green berets that they're
• 10:44
Speaker 5: they're the most badass coastness. Yeah, and I met met
• 10:49
Speaker 5: a number of them, particularly in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
• 10:52
Speaker 5: So Hurricane Harvey was a twenty seventeen was at the
• 10:57
Speaker 5: time the second most costly natural disaster and history, did
• 11:01
Speaker 5: massive damage all the way down from Corpus Christie all
• 11:06
Speaker 5: the way up hundreds of miles up the Texas coast
• 11:08
Speaker 5: to to to the border right with Louisiana, and it
• 11:11
Speaker 5: just was devastating damage. And the coasties that these swimmers
• 11:16
Speaker 5: would go out and these guys you meet them, and
• 11:19
Speaker 5: they're like twenty year old guys, and it's sort of
• 11:23
Speaker 5: imagine like g I Joe combined with a California surfer dude.
• 11:30
Speaker 2: Yep. So they're guys.
• 11:31
Speaker 5: They have these, you know, enormous chests because they're like
• 11:34
Speaker 5: massive swimmers and and so imagine Michael Phelps with these
• 11:38
Speaker 5: like long ass arms and like massive swimmers, but with
• 11:42
Speaker 5: sort of bleach blonde hair and they've got like shades
• 11:45
Speaker 5: hanging from their head and they're like, yeah, bro, look
• 11:49
  Speaker 5: like it's it's it's they're not like the guys that
• 11:53
Speaker 5: that you also met that save people's lives and and
• 11:55
Speaker 5: the flooding that happened in Texas. Not that yes, yes,
• 11:59
Speaker 5: look last fourth of July. But these swimmers, they will
• 12:03
Speaker 5: get on helicopters in the middle of a hurricane where
• 12:06
Speaker 5: you've got waves in the ocean that are ten twenty
• 12:10
Speaker 5: feet high that are terrify, and these guys will jump
• 12:13
Speaker 5: out of a helicopter into the crashing waves and go
• 12:16
Speaker 5: rescue someone. And it is there's a fearlessness to not
• 12:22
Speaker 5: only jumping in crashing twenty foot waves, which most of us,
• 12:27
Speaker 5: if we're in those waves, are going to die, yeah,
• 12:30
Speaker 5: but they'll jump in when they are people in harm's
• 12:33
Speaker 5: way and they'll go grab them. To be clear, if
• 12:35
Speaker 5: you or I were in twenty foot waves and drowning
• 12:37
Speaker 5: someone came, we'd grab on them and pull on and
• 12:39
Speaker 5: you're terrified, Like they know they're gonna go rescue someone
• 12:42
Speaker 5: who's freaking out, who's gonna not intentionally, but it's going
• 12:45
Speaker 5: to effectively try to pull them under, and they're just
• 12:48
Speaker 5: they're really cool. But you're right. There are times where
• 12:52
Speaker 5: the weather is so bad you can't send the chopper in,
• 12:55
Speaker 5: and the ability to send a drone in to have
• 12:58
Speaker 5: something to rest you say, you know someone that's out,
• 13:03
Speaker 5: you know just just on a boat and gets in trouble.
• 13:06
Speaker 5: That is game changing, and that's coming out of Tech
• 13:09
Speaker 5: Texas and all of the new tech that is based
• 13:13
  Speaker 5: in Texas.
• 13:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is an incredible story.
• 13:15
Speaker 4: Every once in a while you get a feel good
• 13:16
Speaker 4: story like this, and we should celebrate it. It also
• 13:18
Speaker 4: is a reminder, I think of why it's so important
• 13:21
Speaker 4: to make sure that we're adequately funding technology. You've talked
• 13:25
Speaker 4: about this, and I've talked about this a lot.
• 13:26
  Speaker 2: Center.
• 13:27
Speaker 4: This is a perfect example of us winning the war
• 13:30
Speaker 4: on AI to make sure that our adversary, China is
• 13:34
Speaker 4: not leading the way on AI. If this is AI controlled,
• 13:37
Speaker 4: this goes and this is one of those examples. I
• 13:39
Speaker 4: do think we should highlight it for a second. This
• 13:42
Speaker 4: is why America has to win the AI race. You
• 13:45
Speaker 4: have less us and you've been warning on this issue,
• 13:49
Speaker 4: and I think we should just take them out. Remind
• 13:51
Speaker 4: people if we aren't in charge of this, our adversary
• 13:55
Speaker 4: would be and that's a scary world as well.
• 13:58
Speaker 5: And by the way, if China masters this technology before
• 14:01
Speaker 5: we do, that is a generation skipping advance in technology.
• 14:07
Speaker 5: And if they have the ability to send a thousand
• 14:11
Speaker 5: or ten thousand or one hundred thousand AI controlled drones
• 14:14
Speaker 5: at one of our aircraft carriers. There's a real risk that,
• 14:18
Speaker 5: you know, the weapons we have to take say surface,
• 14:23
Speaker 5: surface to surface missiles or bombs we have, you know
• 14:27
Speaker 5: those Our aircraft carriers are incredibly expensive and powerful tools,
• 14:32
Speaker 5: but they were made to take out a limited number
• 14:35
Speaker 5: of ordinance and not just massive drone assaults. We're shifting
• 14:40
Speaker 5: to a new technology where look, if we're in a
• 14:44
Speaker 5: conflict with a smaller rival, that's less dangerous. Although you
• 14:50
Speaker 5: know what in times even terrorists and smaller rivals we're
• 14:53
Speaker 5: going to see. We're going to see more and more
• 14:56
Speaker 5: military attack using drones. We're going to see things, We're
• 14:59
Speaker 5: going to see assassinations, We're going to see people killed
• 15:03
Speaker 5: using drones. That is, unfortunately where the future is heading.
• 15:07
Speaker 5: One of the things the US military is investing in
• 15:09
Speaker 5: heavily with American technology is counter drone technology. How do
• 15:13
Speaker 5: you take out how do you take out drones that
• 15:16
Speaker 5: are attacking you? And some of what is working is
• 15:20
Speaker 5: lower cost ordinance that you can't fire a patriot missile
• 15:25
Speaker 5: at every drone coming in. It just the cost differential.
• 15:29
Speaker 5: They can swarm you, so you know is that another
• 15:33
Speaker 5: Texas company where they're building basically the equivalent of a
• 15:37
Speaker 5: really big, badass machine gun that is power that is
• 15:42
Speaker 5: firing like fifty cow rounds, but is firing them with
• 15:47
Speaker 5: AI where they could target hundreds or thousands of drones.
• 15:51
Speaker 5: But the cost of a round is not very expensive.
• 15:53
Speaker 5: So instead of spending an entire patriot missile or something
• 15:59
Speaker 5: that you have limited supply of, we have essentially unlimited
• 16:03
Speaker 5: supply of rounds and so but using those robot powered
• 16:08
Speaker 5: with AI to takeout attacks in scale. More and more
• 16:13
Speaker 5: of that is coming in. There are different ways to
• 16:15
Speaker 5: take out drones. You've got ordnance, got laser and microwave,
• 16:20
Speaker 5: and we're exploring all sorts of different technologies to take
• 16:23
Speaker 5: out a hostile drone. But if we lose this race,
• 16:28
Speaker 5: we would be at a serious military disadvantage to China.
• 16:31
Speaker 5: We can't let that happen, and I don't think
• 16:33
Speaker 3: We're going to Thank you for listening to the forty
