- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another tiny French lesson? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing the weekend plans from last episode. 'Je suis libre samedi' — that one stuck. Lucas: That's great. Today we're tackling time. You know how often you need to check the clock in French, right? Luna: Oh, totally. I always mix up 'heure' and 'horloge'. Lucas: We'll keep it simple. The key question is: 'quelle heure est-il?' — what time is it? Luna: Quelle heure est-il. Say that again slowly? Lucas: Quelle heure est-il. Try it. Luna: Quelle heure est-il. Lucas: Perfect. Now for the answer: 'il est une heure' — it's one o'clock. Luna: Il est une heure. Lucas: Right. For two o'clock, we say 'il est deux heures'. Luna: Il est deux heures. So 'une' is singular and then we add 's' for plural? Lucas: Exactly. And there are two special ones: 'il est midi' for noon, and 'il est minuit' for midnight. Luna: Il est midi, il est minuit. Those are easy to remember. Lucas: Let's practice a little dialogue. I'll ask you the time, and you answer. Quelle heure est-il? Luna: Uhh... il est une heure? Lucas: Yes! But let's say it's actually two. Il est deux heures. Luna: Il est deux heures. Got it. Lucas: Now you ask me. Luna: Quelle heure est-il? Lucas: Il est midi. Time for lunch. Luna: Nice. So if I want to say 'it's midnight', I'd say 'il est minuit'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: quelle heure est-il. Luna: Quelle heure est-il. Lucas: Il est une heure. Luna: Il est une heure. Lucas: Il est deux heures. Luna: Il est deux heures. Lucas: Il est midi. Luna: Il est midi. Lucas: Il est minuit. Luna: Il est minuit. Lucas: You're doing great. Now imagine you're meeting a friend at the train station. You look at your phone and say...? Luna: Il est deux heures? Lucas: If it's two, yes. But maybe it's one. Then you'd say 'il est une heure'. Luna: Right. Il est une heure. And if they ask 'quelle heure est-il?', I can answer. Lucas: Exactly. You're picking it up fast. You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with French, there's a way to support the show and keep it ad-free. Luna: Oh, I've seen that. It's like buying a coffee for the team, right? Lucas: Yeah. You can go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small gesture that helps us keep making these episodes. Luna: That's cool. Anyway, let's get back to the clock. What about half past? Lucas: We'll save that for another episode. For now, master these. Can you tell me what time you'd say for noon? Luna: Il est midi. Lucas: And for midnight? Luna: Il est minuit. Lucas: Perfect. That's all for today. Practice asking and answering the time, and we'll build on it next time. Luna: Sounds good. Merci, Lucas! Lucas: De rien. À bientôt!
