- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Feeling worse on a gut supplement is actually great news.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Your body's telling you exactly what's going on.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: You just have to know how to listen.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: By the end of this video, you'll know what it's saying and what to do next.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: For women with chronic diarrhea, feeling worse than you normally do sucks.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Especially the women I work with who are trying really hard.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: They're doing everything right, and their best effort can still backfire.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: They're more bloated, they're more tired, maybe the diarrhea gets even worse instead of calming down.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: You might start to think that you're just broken now and nothing's ever going to fix it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: But that's not true.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Your body isn't broken, it's just actually talking to you.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Here's what it's saying when the supplements are making you worse.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: The main reason supplements backfire for women with IBS is because there's stuff already living in your gut right now that isn't supposed to be there.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Overgrown bacteria, yeast, sometimes it's it's parasites.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: They've usually been sitting in there for years, way before you ever even had a symptom.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: So when you start a supplement, picture what's actually happening in there.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: That supplement isn't going into an empty room and setting up shop.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: It's walking into a room that's full of squatters.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: People who have been living there a long time, who've gotten very comfortable, who think this is just how things are now.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And whatever's in there doesn't pack up and leave because you asked it nicely.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: It pushes back.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: There are three different things that a supplement making you worse tells us about what's going on with your gut.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And knowing which one you're in matters because what you do about each one is going to be different.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Antimicrobials are the clearest example of this.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: If your gut has overgrowth, something eventually has to go in and remove it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: But your gut's still inflamed, still low on beneficial bacteria that are supposed to be protecting it, and then you hit it with something that's strong, and that's a lot to ask of a gut that's already struggling.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: It's like sending in a demolition crew before anyone's cleared the building out.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: The crew shows up, the equipment is right, the job that needs doing is real, but there are still people inside.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: So instead of a clean demolition, you get chaos, dust everywhere, alarms going off, everybody's scrambling.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: The building still needed to come down eventually.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: It just couldn't happen yet, not with people still standing in it.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: So you feel worse and you assume that the supplements were wrong.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: But that same supplement six months later, once your gut had time to calm down first, once the building was actually cleared, would have done exactly what it was supposed to do.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I had a client very recently who went through this exact same thing.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Deborah saw a functional medicine doctor who did a stool test that showed some pathogenic bacteria that had overgrown in her gut.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Her beneficial species were really low, and there was also a lot of inflammation present.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Her doctor put her on some antimicrobials that, yes, would be effective in getting rid of the bad bacteria, but her gut wasn't ready for them yet.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: So it made her feel significantly worse.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: The diarrhea was worse, it became more watery and much more severe.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: When we did further testing and we changed up the timing of her supplements, things calmed down to a better point where we could start doing deeper work.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: The timing of supplements is crucial.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Some people need calming first, some people need to start eradicating before their gut will ever calm down.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Debora left her time with the functional medicine doctor feeling hopeless, like she was some kind of crazy case and her gut won't tolerate any treatment, not even holistic ones.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: But the truth was that it was the wrong protocol and the wrong timing for her treatment.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: She wasn't broken, she just needed a better strategy.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: The antimicrobial was the right call, it was just the wrong time.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: She needed to calm her gut before taking the antimicrobials.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: This one almost every woman's lived through, and it's usually probiotics.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: You hear about the microbiome enough times, the fix sounds obvious, add good bacteria, but most probiotics don't even survive your stomach acid long enough to get where they're supposed to be going.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: You're swallowing something that's already dissolved before it ever clocks in for its job.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: And if it does survive and your gut is still inflamed, it's still overrun with stuff that shouldn't be there, adding more bacteria into that mix is like inviting more people into a room that's already overcrowded and it's already fighting.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Nobody in that room needed another body shoved through the door.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: There's no extra space.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: You just made a crowded, tense room, more crowded and more tense.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: So the bloating gets worse, the cramping gets worse, probiotics might have their place in your treatment plan, but it's oftentimes at the end of the plan, not at the beginning.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: If nobody's ever explained your gut to you this way before, hit subscribe.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I put out a new video every week on exactly this kind of thing.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: This next one isn't actually a mistake, it just feels like one while you're living through it.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: When you kill off bacteria or yeast that's overgrown in your gut, it doesn't leave quietly.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: It ruptures.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: And when it does, it dumps toxins into your system that your body has to deal with all at once.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Think about cleaning out a fridge with something spoiled in the back for months.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: The second you start pulling it out, it smells worse before the kitchen starts to smell clean.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: You didn't make the fridge dirtier by cleaning it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: You just sparked up the dust, you disturbed something that was already rotting back there, and now the smell has come out before the kitchen actually gets clean.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: That's called die-off.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: For a few days, you can feel bloated, foggy, more tired than usual.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: You might feel a little bit more irritable than normal because your body's working overtime on something that you can't see.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: It's not pleasant.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna tell you that it is, but it's also not your gut falling apart.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: It's your gut actually finally winning the fight.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't feel like it.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: But here's where healing usually gets sabotaged, because this is where women who are taking exactly the right supplement at exactly the right time oftentimes quit the protocol.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: This usually happens because nobody explained this process beforehand, or because she doesn't talk to her doctor until the next appointment three months later.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: So she panics, she assumes it's broken, or her body rejected it, or this whole thing was a waste of her time and money.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And she quits, just days away from when she would finally feel relief.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: One of my former clients, Melissa, was a great example of this.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Melissa's gut had become really overly sensitive to any kind of supplement, and her loose stool got worse every time she tried something.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: She had seen a naturopath for a while, and the protocol made things worse instead of better, so she stopped it.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: When Melissa came to me and she started her new supplement protocol, the loose stool worsened again like it always did.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: But instead of quitting, she reached out for help and guidance.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: We were able to transition her through some of that die-off process, the first few days that were a little rough, and she made it to the other side.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Now she has perfect daily bowel movements, she's able to travel, she can eat out again.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: These are all things that she hadn't been able to do for years.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: In my practice, we remove all of this guesswork by getting real data about what's happening in your gut.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Before we ever start a complex supplement protocol, we want to run advanced testing first so that I already know exactly what's going on in there before we start doing too much.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: A standard panel checks maybe five things.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: What I use actually looks at what's living in there.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: So when a reaction shows up, I'm not surprised by it.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: You're not surprised by it because we knew exactly what to expect.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: So my women know what to expect.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: And if they need a little extra support while it's happening, they know they can reach out.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: No more doing this on your own, no more suffering while wondering if this is just how things are supposed to be.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Personalized care is available when people are needing it the most.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: You don't need to be scared of feeling worse before you feel better.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: You need someone who already knows what's going on in your gut and who's checking on you while you go through it.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: So if you want to stop guessing and know exactly what's going on with you, you can reach out to us with the link that's in the description.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And if you're still hoping that your conventional GI doctor is gonna be the one who finally fixes this, watch this video next.
