- Luka just dropped 36 on the Rockets and somehow that wasn't even the wildest thing that happened last night — we need to talk about Bam Adebayo allegedly scoring 83 points because what the hell is going on? What's up, it's your boy Mike B with The Sports Hangover — let's talk about what went down last night. Look, I'm gonna be real with you — something's broken in the NBA right now and I'm not sure if it's the game or just my brain trying to process what I'm seeing. Let's start with what actually happened before we get to whatever fever dream the league office is having about Bam Adebayo. The Lakers beat the Rockets 100-92 last night, and Luka Dončić put up 36 points to continue what might be the most absurd hot streak we've seen since prime Kobe. This man is averaging 37.8 points over his last six games — that's the highest by a Lakers player since Kobe's legendary 39.5 per game stretch in 2011-12. We're talking about generational territory here. But here's what's wild — KD dropped 22 for Houston, LeBron had a solid 18 with five rebounds and five assists, and the Lakers still won by eight. That tells you everything about where these teams are right now. The Lakers just jumped the Rockets for the third seed in the West, and honestly? That might be the difference between a second-round exit and a conference finals run. Luka's playing like he's possessed, and when you combine that with LeBron doing LeBron things at 41 years old, this team's starting to look scary. The thing is, this Lakers squad doesn't make sense on paper. You've got Luka in his prime, LeBron somehow still elite in year 23, and a supporting cast that shouldn't work but somehow does. Marcus Smart chipped in 11 points last night, and I'm watching this thinking — how is this sustainable? But then Luka goes and averages 38 points over six games and suddenly I'm wondering if they can actually make noise in the playoffs. Around the league, we had some absolutely bonkers individual performances. Jaylen Brown and Devin Booker went at each other like it was Game 7 of the Finals — Brown dropped 41, Booker answered with 40, and the Celtics won 120-112. But get this — Brown shot 19-of-21 from the free throw line. Nineteen of twenty-one! He became just the third Celtic since 2000 to attempt 20-plus free throws in a game. That's not just a great performance, that's peak modern NBA — getting to the line and converting at that rate is how you win games. Speaking of historic, Russell Westbrook quietly moved past Mark Jackson and Steve Nash into fifth all-time in assists last night. I mean, we're talking about one of the most polarizing players of this generation, and he's now top-five in assists in NBA history. That's wild. The Hawks extended their winning streak to 10 games — first time since 2014-15 they've done that — beating the Magic 124-112 behind Nickeil Alexander-Walker's career-high 41 points. Jalen Johnson had a triple-double with 24, 15, and 13. This Hawks team is playing spoiler right now and I'm here for it. But then we get to this Bam Adebayo situation and I honestly don't know what to tell you. The research says he scored 83 points on Tuesday and fans are debating whether to celebrate or demand an audit. Eighty-three points! That would be the highest single-game total since Kobe's 81. If this actually happened, why isn't every sports show in America leading with this? Where's the video? Where are the highlights? I'm calling bullshit on this until proven otherwise. There's no way Bam Adebayo — who's a great player, don't get me wrong — randomly drops 83 points and it's a footnote in the research. Either this is the biggest sports story of the year or someone's having a very weird Tuesday. Now let's talk NFL because the Broncos just made the most aggressive move of the offseason. They traded their 2026 first, third, AND fourth round picks to Miami for Jaylen Waddle. This is Sean Payton going all-in on Bo Nix, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Look, Waddle's been great — 5,039 receiving yards since entering the league, which is 10th-most among receivers. But three picks for a guy with a massive contract? The Broncos are betting everything that Bo Nix can be the guy, and now they're giving him weapons to prove it. Waddle and Courtland Sutton is a nice duo, but you just mortgaged your future for it. The Cowboys are having a fire sale, trading both Osa Odighizuwa and Solomon Thomas. Jerry Jones is clearly punting on this season, which honestly might be the smartest thing he's done in years. And the Ravens went out and got Trey Hendrickson on a four-year, $112 million deal after the Maxx Crosby trade fell through. Baltimore's not messing around — they want to get back to the playoffs and they're willing to pay for it. The thing about all these NFL moves is they're happening in March, which means teams are getting desperate. The Broncos trading three picks for Waddle? That's not calculated — that's panic. They think their window is now and they might be right, but it's a hell of a gamble. Here's my hangover take — the NBA is broken and I don't think anyone knows how to fix it. We've got Luka averaging 38 points over six games, random 83-point performances that may or may not have happened, and 40-point duels between stars happening on a Tuesday night in March. The league's turned into NBA 2K on rookie difficulty, and while it's entertaining as hell, something's gotta give. Either defenses figure out how to stop these guys or we're gonna have to recalibrate what normal looks like, because averaging 38 points shouldn't be possible in the modern NBA, yet here we are. That's your hangover. Go hydrate. I'll see you tomorrow.
