- 0:00You know, I've got two older brothers who grew.
- 0:01They're 16 and 18 years older than me.
- 0:04As a kid. They were my idols.
- 0:06I wanted to follow in their footsteps.
- 0:09They grew up in Oklahoma. The Selman brothers and the
- 0:11Goldberg brothers are the only brother family that had three
- 0:15all State lineman, all State players, you know, in their
- 0:19family and so. But my brothers went to
- 0:22University of Minnesota and Oklahoma was like in in the top
- 0:26three when I was coming out. But the last place I wanted to
- 0:29go was an hour and a half from my house, and so I wanted to go
- 0:33where nobody knew who I was. I wanted to be able to make a
- 0:35name for myself. That's a song.
- 0:39Just don't let me sing it. That's all I can say.
- 0:41But, but I mean, I just wanted to start fresh.
- 0:44It's kind of like my son, right? My son is in following in my
- 0:48footsteps. So he wanted to go somewhere.
- 0:50He didn't want to go to Georgia. He didn't want to go to Texas
- 0:52because it was right where we live.
- 0:54He wanted to go somewhere we can make a name for himself.
- 0:57So he signed with Deon Sanders at the University of.
- 1:00Colorado. And in two months, he'll be
- 1:03kicking butt as a. Neon Dion.
- 1:05Yes, Sir. Neon and I played together.
- 1:07So I could be wrong, but they say you're billed from.
- 1:12Are you from Dawsonville? Did you know that, Dawsonville?
- 1:15Georgia, There's two awesome bills from Dawsonville.
- 1:21Tell me about this. Well, I'll start off by saying
- 1:24Ernie Elliott. I used to live 15 minutes from
- 1:27the shop. Right.
- 1:28Are you kidding? Me.
- 1:29I've blown up many a race car on their on their runway.
- 1:32Well, the thing of it is. Well, the thing of it is was
- 1:39had. To do.
- 1:39That so Ernie. At one point Ernie built 10
- 1:42Cobras right? The the, the, the kit car Cobra.
- 1:46So he did a deal with this place called Unique Motor Cars.
- 1:49They put ten Cup motors in 10 kit cars that weighs like 2000
- 1:55lbs. And you know what?
- 1:56Are you guys pushing 750 with no limiter 809?
- 2:00100 at that time, at that time, right now we're making we can
- 2:03make about 950 horsepower. That tells you how much
- 2:07innovation. But yeah, you're right.
- 2:09Yeah, but so I went up and and and to test, I went up to kind
- 2:13of test the car. And so I drove up to Blairsville
- 2:17and Bill takes me a ride for a ride in his cobra.
- 2:21Come on. Bill and Chase was four years
- 2:24old and he's sitting on the hump in between the two of us and I
- 2:29am. I have my hands embedded in the
- 2:31dash, 'cause I'm terrified, and Chase is laughing.
- 2:36At four years old. Fool at four years old, so I
- 2:39knew this kid was going to be 1/2 of a NASCAR driver.
- 2:43And coming from that family, how could you be anything?
- 2:45But unbelievable. OK, so we're a little bit older
- 2:47right now, but what do you think, Goldberg, if Kenny gets
- 2:50Ric Flair and I get you tag team match?
- 2:54Oh dude, What? You have no chance.
- 2:58And here's here's another bit of information that you guys will
- 3:01find interesting. Ric Flair went to the University
- 3:05of Minnesota. Come on, Yeah.
- 3:07Ric Flair was my brother's roommate at the University of
- 3:11Minnesota. Man, all kinds of stuff.
- 3:14I got into the wrestling. Business and I grew up in St.
- 3:16Louis, MO. Every Sunday, wrestling at the
- 3:19Chase. My guy was Harley Race.
- 3:22You know, Pat O'Connor Speaking of wrestling.
- 3:25So I understand that your signature move was the spear
- 3:29move. Yes, Sir.
- 3:30OK, now don't. Don't hurt me, Kenny.
- 3:33Kenny's signature move is the string dance.
- 3:35What is this? What is this spear move?
- 3:37You guys know what the spear is, right?
- 3:41Would. Would it hurt me?
- 3:42Do you think? Don't do it.
- 3:44Do you think Kenny really wanted I?
- 3:45Mean. No, no.
- 3:46Don't do it. Don't do.
- 3:48It so I'll I'll make it easy for you.
- 3:50A spear is nothing more than a football tackle.
- 3:52Oh, I I did my first match. It was a dark match down in
- 3:57Florida and I don't know, there were probably 20 people in the
- 4:00crowd. And right before I go, right
- 4:02before I go out the the, the, the guy run on the show says
- 4:05what's your finishing move? And I'm like, what's that?
- 4:07I don't have. He goes well when you when you
- 4:11win the match, it's got to be a, you know, a signature deal.
- 4:15And so I get in the ring and I wrestle a guy named Manny
- 4:18Fernandez. Manny.
- 4:20And I look across the ring at Manny before they ring the bell.
- 4:24And I said, Manny, do you trust me?
- 4:27He says yes. Pardon my French, but I said OK,
- 4:33when it comes time, tuck your chin, spread your legs and kiss
- 4:38your ass goodbye. That's kind of like Bristol.
- 4:44And I and I all I did was I did a football tackle.
- 4:48That's what I've done my entire life.
- 4:49I go to the back after the match.
- 4:52Everybody's mouths are open, their jaws are on the floor.
- 4:55They say whatever you do, do that every time.
- 4:58I'm like, this is an easy day at work.
- 5:00I do this. I did this for a living.
- 5:02So I just, I I thought it was a very simple move.
- 5:05It was very impactful and it's one that I don't know, 7 out of
- 5:0810 times they don't get hurt. So you.
- 5:13Saw you saw this being a Georgia boy, you saw this sport come
- 5:16from the back roads of the Southeast now to the forefront.
- 5:19What do you think about the evolution of NASCAR 'cause you
- 5:21had a front seat? Yeah, Evolution of NASCAR is
- 5:24unbelievable because the first time I came to Bristol Motor
- 5:27Speedway, I wasn't even a wrestler.
- 5:29I wasn't even an NFL player. I was just a kid that graduated
- 5:33from from University of Georgia and I'm.
- 5:35I find myself in the infield on top of a hauler trying to
- 5:39decipher what this person next to me is saying for the past
- 5:43hour. And I hold on, hold on.
- 5:46And I did and I did this. I did this in the fan zone and
- 5:50everybody guessed it, but it was a current driver.
- 5:53And who was it? I spoke.
- 5:56No, not current now, but current at the time.
- 5:58He raced with you. So I I I spent an hour with him
- 6:02and I must have understood 3 words.
- 6:05Yeah. Who was it?
- 6:06Dale Earnhardt. Earnhardt's my man Sterling.
- 6:11Sterling. Sterling is Warburton.
- 6:13Oh. What?
- 6:14Oh my God. I had no idea.
- 6:16What the hell he? Was saying, Oh my God, you spent
- 6:19time with the ward Burton. Oh my God, yeah.
- 6:21Before I even knew what NASCAR was, I'm on the hauler and he's
- 6:24trying to explain everything to me.
- 6:25And all I do is this the whole. Anyways, I did.
- 6:28Ward, Dale. Do your born impression well,
- 6:32the NB and a Pontiac running real good all day long.
- 6:36That's a good one, because I didn't understand a damn thing.
- 6:38You just said Ward. We should have known.
- 6:41Ward, what happened to you here at Darlington?
- 6:43Well, the NB and a Pontiac bursting of flames.
- 6:48And let me tell you something. This Kenny Wallace ain't worth a
- 6:51dial. But here's here's the deal.
- 6:53Here's the deal. You asked me a question.
- 6:55You asked me a question about the evolution in NASCAR.
- 6:58The evolution in NASCAR is in Y'all's hands.
- 7:00Yes. OK, because as long as we have
- 7:03the fans, technology's going to do its thing, the drivers are
- 7:07going to do their thing. But the reality is you guys make
- 7:10this sport. So as long as you continue to do
- 7:13what you have been doing, especially here at Bristol Motor
- 7:16Speedway, this sport will always be at the forefront of what we
- 7:20do in America. Goldberg, we got to send you
- 7:22off, brother. No hold.
- 7:24On I want to stay. One more, OK.
- 7:26Please, please forgive me, Director.
- 7:28I thought I was saving you from getting body slammed, Kenny, is
- 7:31what I was actually. Trying to do I have to ask this
- 7:33There is so much to you. You were in the NFLA football
- 7:38player, a wrestler, and I see you in major motion pictures so
- 7:43far. Out of those three things, Bill,
- 7:46what do you like the most? What do I like the most?
- 7:50You're a chameleon. You do everything.
- 7:52I like playing football. That was a dream.
- 7:54Of football. That was all right.
- 7:56That's the onus for everything it started.
- 7:58Out. Thank you for answering that.
- 8:00Thank you for asking, but the reality is, you know, everything
- 8:03that I've been able to accomplish throughout the years
- 8:05gives me a voice. You guys know it, and it's a
- 8:08very powerful voice. Yeah.
- 8:10And to be able to make it to where I've made it and be able
- 8:14to use that for something positive.
- 8:16Working with kids, treating people the way I want to be
- 8:19treated and working with our military.
- 8:22That's my life now. Love it.
- 8:24That is my life. Other than this little boy
- 8:26behind me going to Colorado and his beautiful mother, Gaetz
- 8:30Goldberg. Where you at?
- 8:33Get up here, kid. We.
- 8:35Just got look at this kid, hey. Come on everybody.
- 8:37How you doing? Brother, you're going all right
- 8:40for Neon. Dion another generation?
- 8:42I bet he'll inspire you. Congratulations.
- 8:45Gaetz Goldberg has been here at Bristol for 15 years.
- 8:49He was a little baby when I first brought him, so he's
- 8:52growing up with you guys. So thank you very much.
- 8:55Big. Round of applause guys.
- 8:56Thank you to The Goldbergs. You look good.
- 9:00You'll be stout. Thanks.
- 9:01Brother, thank you guys. Have a wonderful day and treat
- 9:04my buddies with respect up here. What a man.
- 9:07What a man.
