Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I look at the wisdom of God. I'm just about finish.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Now Malcolm went out.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Of the nation.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We all were hurt. At least I can speak for myself.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I loved him. Next three lied to Muhammad, and I
- 0:21Speaker 1: didn't know anybody greater than Malcolm X. It hurt me
- 0:26Speaker 1: that he would go out of the nation. But then
- 0:29Speaker 1: the worst hurt was Malcolm going to Mike Wallace, telling
- 0:41Speaker 1: Mike Wallace and listen to the words. Now, Elijah Muhammed
- 0:46Speaker 1: father children from his teenage secretaries. So Malcolm raised it
- 0:55Speaker 1: to a moral issue, listen to me, carefully putting himself
- 1:02Speaker 1: in the righteous position, putting his teacher in an immoral position.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But then he's going to the white man to tell
- 1:13Speaker 2: the white man.
- 1:16Speaker 1: What his leader and teacher had done.
- 1:20Speaker 2: He did it with Mike Wallace. You can't deny this.
- 1:23Speaker 2: This is actual fact.
- 1:25Speaker 1: He came here to Chicago and went to cuts in
- 1:28Speaker 1: it when as cuts in It been a friend of
- 1:31Speaker 1: black people.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And he told cup.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Lade, your Muhammed. I thought he was a man fathered
- 1:41Speaker 1: these children and wouldn't and I was kept it a secret,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and whatnot.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I found it that he was less man than I thought.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Oh, he dogged the messenger, the man that took him
- 1:57Speaker 3: from a pimp, from a hustle, from a stick up man.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Send him before the world.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Now he's dog and his teacher.
- 2:09Speaker 4: What do you think we felt.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Elijah Muhammad wasn't just a leader.
- 2:16Speaker 2: That's our spiritual guide and father.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Brother, you don't have to order me to kill you
- 2:24Speaker 1: if you attack my father.
- 2:26Speaker 2: My orders come from my love.
- 2:31Speaker 5: I want you to hear you good, because every Muslim
- 2:35Speaker 5: that loved Elijah Muhammad would have killed Malcolm if we
- 2:38Speaker 5: had gotten a chance.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Now, I don't need no damn applause.
- 2:43Speaker 5: I want you to think now we didn't incite that
- 2:47Speaker 5: Malcolm incited.
- 2:49Speaker 2: That isn't us. He would have been dad. He would
- 2:53Speaker 2: never have lasted a year.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Elijah Muhammad told us to leave im.
- 3:00Speaker 6: Alone, leave him alone, told me to my face, leave
- 3:10Speaker 6: him alone.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And I'm an obedient servant. Yeah, I love Eli to
- 3:23Speaker 1: Mohammed and North that if you attack him, I would
- 3:25Speaker 1: kill you.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Yesterday, today and tomorrow.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And I'm not a killer, but neither are you. But
- 3:38Speaker 1: if somebody attack what you love, each one of you
- 3:43Speaker 1: in here would become a killer instantaneous. In my line.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Mother, let somebody look like they're attacking your child. Here's
- 3:54Speaker 5: a woman who fought a bath because the bear snatched
- 3:59Speaker 5: her baby, and she ran the bad down streaming until
- 4:05Speaker 5: the bad drop her baby.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Love cast out fear.
- 4:11Speaker 5: We don't give a damn about no white man law
- 4:14Speaker 5: when you attack what we love.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And frankly, it ain't none of your business. What have
- 4:36Speaker 2: you got to say about Did you teach Malcolm? Did
- 4:40Speaker 2: you make Malcolm? Did you clean up Malcolm? Did you
- 4:45Speaker 2: put Malcolm out before the world? Was Malcolm your trader
- 4:49Speaker 2: or was he hours?
- 4:51Speaker 5: And if we dealt with him like a nation deals
- 4:54Speaker 5: with a trader, what the hell business is it of yours?
- 5:08Speaker 5: You just shut your mouth and stay out of it,
- 5:14Speaker 5: because in the future we're gonna become a nation, and
- 5:19Speaker 5: the nation gotta be able to deal with traders and
- 5:23Speaker 5: cutthroats and turncoats. The white man deals with his, the
- 5:31Speaker 5: Jews deal with the ass. Salmon Rusty wrote a nasty
- 5:38Speaker 5: thing about the prophet, and here ma'am Comane put out a.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Death thing on him.
- 5:42Speaker 5: And it stands today.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Sudden paths, you don't cross.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Like I said last week, in every prophet's community there
- 6:02Speaker 1: were zealous I'm telling you Elijah Muhammad told us leave
- 6:07Speaker 1: that man alone. I believe Elijah Muhammad said he'll come
- 6:12Speaker 1: back repentant. Leave him alone. At the same time that
- 6:19Speaker 1: Malcolm went out, Wallace D. Muhammad went out too, and wrote.
- 6:27Speaker 2: In the Daily News, Chicago Daily News and.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Sepia Magazine such ugly things about his father, and if
- 6:37Speaker 1: it were not for the mercy of that father, that
- 6:40Speaker 1: son would be dead, killed by one of his own brothers.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But Elijah Muhammad said, leave him alone. Malcolm was his son, Aaron, yes,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but leave him alone.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You're not to judge him. Leave him alone.
- 7:00Speaker 1: We left him alone. I'm gonna tell you something about
- 7:04Speaker 1: the nation, the nation that I love. Some of these
- 7:13Speaker 1: rotten ministers and leaders and captains were in the nation
- 7:18Speaker 1: yesterday and summer in the nation today.
- 7:23Speaker 2: You don't like the way of God.
- 7:27Speaker 1: If God say, put them out in your heart you
- 7:31Speaker 1: want You don't think that's strong enough. So you wanna
- 7:35Speaker 1: beat somebody up, or you wanna exact some kind of
- 7:38Speaker 1: retribution on somebody, as though you.
- 7:40Speaker 2: A God beside God.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You don't like my way because I'm a merciful man.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Some of you are hypocrites right now, I don't know,
- 7:56Speaker 1: but Elijah Muhammed didn't send me to beat black people
- 7:59Speaker 1: or shoot black people, but to teach black people. And
- 8:03Speaker 1: you'll always find me defending black people because he showed.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Me how to defend my people. You know, sisters and brothers.
- 8:16Speaker 1: In the Bible, David had a son called Absalom, and
- 8:26Speaker 1: Absalom rose up against his father David.
- 8:31Speaker 5: And violated David's wives in the presence of all of
- 8:34Speaker 5: Israel and.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Made war on the father.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And when the father's forces went out to meet.
- 8:43Speaker 5: The forces of the son, David told Joe, when.
- 8:50Speaker 1: You catch my son, don't kill him.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Bring my son to me.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Absalom had long hair, according to the Bible, and he
- 9:05Speaker 1: was caught up in a tree and Joab.
- 9:10Speaker 7: Even though the king said leave him alone.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Joab wanted to be a law unto himself. He allowed
- 9:21Speaker 1: his emotion and his hatred for what that son had
- 9:24Speaker 1: done to take control, and he spared Absalom through and
- 9:30Speaker 1: they brought the son of David back dead. And while
- 9:35Speaker 1: all of Israel was rejoicing, you could hear David in
- 9:41Speaker 1: his tent crying, saying over and over and over again,
- 9:49Speaker 1: my son, my son, my son. I had an experience
- 9:58Speaker 1: with this if any of you ever had an hour
- 10:02Speaker 1: of the body experience, well, if you haven't, I have.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I was in Boston and all of a sudden, my
- 10:13Speaker 1: spirit seemed to rise right up out of my body,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and I could see myself floating above the trees and
- 10:19Speaker 1: the highways.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And I found myself in Chicago.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And as I was coming around the house of the
- 10:27Speaker 1: Honorable Elijah Muhammad at forty eight forty seven South Woodlawn,
- 10:32Speaker 1: the Honorably Elijah Muhammad was in the room of Wareth
- 10:35Speaker 1: Dean Mohammed, and he was sitting on his bed, on
- 10:40Speaker 1: Wallace's bed, looking toward the door, with his back to
- 10:46Speaker 1: the window, and he was crying the deepest cry that
- 10:52Speaker 1: I ever heard a man cry, You know when a
- 10:55Speaker 1: man cries, and he's coming up from the.
- 10:57Speaker 8: God, deep, deep deep, And he was saying over and
- 11:03Speaker 8: over and over, my son, my son, my son.
- 11:10Speaker 1: And I said to him through the window, the apostle,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I will be your son. And he never turned to
- 11:21Speaker 1: acknowledge my presence at the window. So my spirit returned,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and I watched myself go right back and get into
- 11:30Speaker 1: my body. And I woke up, and I started reading
- 11:34Speaker 1: the Bible and found the words of David, and know
- 11:38Speaker 1: that I heard the cry of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad
- 11:43Speaker 1: over both Wallace and Malcolm. We have Zealots in the
- 11:50Speaker 1: nation right, and we have agents in the nation. I
- 11:58Speaker 1: believe the Zelus in the mosque in Newark, as it
- 12:03Speaker 1: has now come out that they were from the Newark
- 12:05Speaker 1: Mosque kill Malcolm. But the hurting thing is two innocent
- 12:12Speaker 1: men went to prison for twenty five years of their life,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and they were sentenced to a prison term that they
- 12:22Speaker 1: didn't deserve. By the mouth of Betty Shabbaz, Betty was
- 12:29Speaker 1: so hurt at the death of her husband. Being in
- 12:37Speaker 1: the mass she knew Thomas Johnson and Norman Butler, and
- 12:44Speaker 1: she placed them at the scene of the crime when
- 12:50Speaker 1: they were not there.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And the same Betty.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So vindictive and hurt.
- 13:00Speaker 2: You understand, the hurt.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Got on l I b in New York and said
- 13:08Speaker 1: that I, as well as some of Malcolm's brothers, were
- 13:12Speaker 1: a part of an assassination committee.
- 13:17Speaker 2: To destroy her husband. Hypocrisy is a hell of a thing.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So in my conclusion, the FBI knew that Malcolm was
- 13:36Speaker 1: going to die?
- 13:39Speaker 7: How did they know?
- 13:42Speaker 1: Who informed them? In Spike's movie, when Malcolm was in
- 13:48Speaker 1: the hotel. You saw the bug in the lamp shade.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Has to throw you off the track.
- 14:00Speaker 1: They may have bugged the lemp shade, but the scripture says,
- 14:04Speaker 1: where there are two or three of you gathered together
- 14:07Speaker 1: in my name, there I am also among you. That's
- 14:11Speaker 1: the way it is with the FBI. Wherever there are
- 14:14Speaker 1: two or three of you gathered together. But whatever your
- 14:17Speaker 1: righteous purpose is, that enemy agent is right there among us,
- 14:22Speaker 1: playing like he's one of us.
- 14:27Speaker 2: So the zealous, like joy.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Could not respond to their leaders instruction. Their hatred for
- 14:37Speaker 1: Malcolm was greater than their leader's instruction. Somebody told Malcolm
- 14:50Speaker 1: to take the gods off the door, don't let them search,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and Malcolm went along with it. Malcolm was very confused,
- 15:05Speaker 1: very upset. If you listen to his talk, you watched
- 15:09Speaker 1: him when he was clean and firing. Then when he
- 15:13Speaker 1: got his beard and he was disheveled, and he just
- 15:17Speaker 1: didn't have it. And the same people that he whipped
- 15:21Speaker 1: in debate began to beat up on Malcolm.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Poor brother, poor brother.
- 15:34Speaker 1: He was writing to the honorably Elijah Muhammad to get
- 15:36Speaker 1: back in the nation.
- 15:39Speaker 3: When he was assassinated.
- 15:43Speaker 1: No uniform policeman nowhere in the ballroom, but an agent.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Jeane Roberts was one of his bodyguds. And when Malcolm
- 15:58Speaker 1: fell under the bullet, it was this agent who claimed
- 16:03Speaker 1: to be giving Malcolm mouth to mouth resuscitation.
- 16:09Speaker 4: It was an agent in the Panther party that told
- 16:16Speaker 4: the authorities where Fred Hampton would be sleeping, and they
- 16:24Speaker 4: drugged out.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Brother, and they shot so many holes in that apartment
- 16:31Speaker 1: on the west side. There was no way that Fred
- 16:35Speaker 1: Hampton and Mark Clock could have lived in. Anybody that
- 16:39Speaker 1: got out of there.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I was lucky.
- 16:43Speaker 1: It's always been agents and stool pigeons that set us
- 16:49Speaker 1: up for the big devil? Was there an agent among
- 16:59Speaker 1: those so assassinated Malcolm? Why we're two arrested at the ballroom,
- 17:05Speaker 1: as I said last week, and only one later was
- 17:09Speaker 1: mentioned in the paper. One was dropped and dropped completely
- 17:12Speaker 1: out of sight. When Spike leader, let me tell you
- 17:17Speaker 1: something about Spike. You may not like Spike.
- 17:24Speaker 2: That's my brother.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I love him, I think I understand him. Spike read
- 17:33Speaker 1: the autobiography of Malcolm. Spike fell in love with Malcolm,
- 17:37Speaker 1: as many of you did. Spike was hurt that such
- 17:42Speaker 1: a great one was lost to us, and Spike believed
- 17:48Speaker 1: that eled to Muhammad had him killed.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And he makes a hint, ever so slightly.
- 17:56Speaker 1: In his book The Making of the Movie Malcolm X.
- 18:03Speaker 1: He makes a hint that in his heart he wanted
- 18:08Speaker 1: to get even with Elijah Muhammad in the nation of Islam.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So when Spike and I talked, and my son in
- 18:19Speaker 1: law asked, Spike, have you ever read the Holy Koran?
- 18:26Speaker 1: Didn't you ask him that, brother Leonard?
- 18:28Speaker 4: What did he say?
- 18:33Speaker 1: He said he had never read this book. So we
- 18:37Speaker 1: asked him on what basis are you going to judge
- 18:40Speaker 1: the domestic life of Elijah Muhammad if you don't read
- 18:43Speaker 1: and understand the book out of which he acted.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Do you think that Malcolm X.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Gave up Elijah Muhammad because of some sex thing?
- 18:57Speaker 2: Do you really think it's that shallow? How could he?
- 19:03Speaker 1: How many wives did Prophet Muhammad have, brother back Daddy.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Some people say nine, some people say eleven. Now, when
- 19:15Speaker 1: Malcolm was slandering men to be like Mohammad talking about
- 19:17Speaker 1: teenage secretaries, didn't the prophet take a wife who was
- 19:23Speaker 1: a pre teenager? What was her name, Aisha? When he
- 19:31Speaker 1: married her? How old was she? She was eleven years old?
- 19:37Speaker 1: But he did not have conjugal relations with her until
- 19:40Speaker 1: what year?
- 19:44Speaker 2: They say, fourteen?
- 19:46Speaker 1: Wow, now, palm, how you going to leave Elijah who
- 19:53Speaker 1: had wives, some of them young women? And that man
- 19:59Speaker 1: took you up out of the man that cleaned you up.
- 20:01Speaker 1: You didn't know nothing about no prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad
- 20:04Speaker 1: didn't come and get you out of jail. It wasn't Uma,
- 20:10Speaker 1: it wasn't Ali, it wasn't Apple. Back up, it wasn't Uthman.
- 20:21Speaker 1: How you gonna say you're gonna dump a man that
- 20:24Speaker 1: cleaned you up and then go follow the prophet that
- 20:26Speaker 1: had eleven wives and one of his was a preteenager?
- 20:30Speaker 2: Does that make sense? Come on, you know anything about Malcolm?
- 20:36Speaker 5: You ever read his words, study his teaching or what
- 20:40Speaker 5: he taught from the honorabilized Muhammad. Do you think Malcolm
- 20:43Speaker 5: could go to Mecca.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And beat bamboozled hoodwinked.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I've been to Mecca many, many times.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I ate food.
- 21:01Speaker 9: Out of a ball with white people, brown people, red people,
- 21:07Speaker 9: yellow people. I drank water with black, brown, red, yellow,
- 21:11Speaker 9: and white in Mecca.
- 21:13Speaker 2: That didn't change me and make me think that there's
- 21:16Speaker 2: no racism in Islam. I'm not no fool.
- 21:23Speaker 1: It.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Can't nobody fool me? Asked, I know what I'm looking at.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Why in the hell is Africa so backward?
- 21:32Speaker 5: Why won't the Sadis back Africa back to Somalis that's
- 21:37Speaker 5: suffering in Somalia. Why didn't the Saudis send money in
- 21:41Speaker 5: a field?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Why you don't back the Muslims in Bosnia.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Got some problems. You're not gonna fool me that there
- 22:00Speaker 2: is no.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Color in Islam. You tell that to some other person,
- 22:06Speaker 1: You don't tell that to me.
- 22:09Speaker 7: I know better.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Why are Muslim Arabs in the black community selling pig
- 22:20Speaker 1: to my people?
- 22:33Speaker 2: You know it's divinely forbidden, but you sell it.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yet the prophet said, a man is not a Muslim
- 22:39Speaker 1: till he wants for his brother what he wants for himself.
- 22:42Speaker 5: So evidently you don't see us as your brother because
- 22:46Speaker 5: we're in a savage condition. Nobody wants us.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Until God came to claim us as his own. So
- 22:58Speaker 1: Malcolm is dead and the sisters who were the wives
- 23:04Speaker 1: of the all of Elijah Muhammad have been slenderd. You
- 23:11Speaker 1: don't ask a man if he's married, are you having
- 23:14Speaker 1: sex with your wife?
- 23:19Speaker 2: The question is moved. If that's my wife. I have
- 23:23Speaker 2: a right to that.
- 23:27Speaker 1: So why didn't Malcolm say he took wives.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Why did he.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Say teenage secretaries? Because he knew that would inflame you.
- 23:41Speaker 2: And it would keep you away from.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Elijah Muhammad because he had become embittered. Now I conclude
- 23:53Speaker 1: in that scenario, was Malcolm worthy to sit in the
- 23:58Speaker 1: seat of Elijah Muhammad and and be a redeemer of
- 24:03Speaker 1: our people?
- 24:05Speaker 2: Wait?
- 24:05Speaker 1: Wait, I mean, have you ever read the story in
- 24:09Speaker 1: the Bible of Noah and his sons?
- 24:15Speaker 5: Did you know that Noah had three sons. Noah got
- 24:20Speaker 5: all of them out of the flood. They landed on
- 24:24Speaker 5: Mount Ararat. You remember, according to the Bible, he sent
- 24:28Speaker 5: a raven out, The raven didn't come back.
- 24:32Speaker 2: He sent a dove out, the dove came back. He
- 24:35Speaker 2: came outside of the ark. According to the Bible, he
- 24:38Speaker 2: got drunk and was naked laying in the sand. Two
- 24:47Speaker 2: sons refused to look on his nakedness.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And covered him, and another son called Ham looked.
- 24:59Speaker 10: Down at his neck goodness and mocked the man who
- 25:02Speaker 10: got him out of the flood, And Noah cursed him,
- 25:15Speaker 10: and God upheld the curse, according to the Bible.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Now you look at Elijah Muhammad.
- 25:21Speaker 7: Did he get Malcolm out.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Of Malcolm's condition? If he saw the leader in that condition,
- 25:29Speaker 1: what should he have done?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Cover him?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Since the leader covered him? Why don't you cover the
- 25:40Speaker 1: leader and wait till understanding come? Why would you go
- 25:43Speaker 1: to the enemy of both of you? He became vindictive.
- 25:52Speaker 2: He was hurt and bitter. Now let me conclude.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I know it's long. Tell me I've been teaching all day.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You know how I know Malcolm Shoes. Did you know
- 26:11Speaker 1: that before Spike made the movie that this brother was
- 26:15Speaker 1: trying to make the movie Malcolm X.
- 26:18Speaker 7: You didn't know that, did you?
- 26:20Speaker 2: I never told you.
- 26:21Speaker 7: But brother, I know.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Well you whip me when.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I went overseas. Thank you come out here. Brother Boss says,
- 26:31Speaker 1: You've been whipped me a long time. Did you start?
- 26:44Speaker 2: My brother and I been together a long time.
- 26:52Speaker 1: When Godfrey Cambridge died, Brock Peters called my wife and
- 27:00Speaker 1: I was on my way to California in the automobile,
- 27:05Speaker 1: and I happened to stop in New Mexico, and I
- 27:11Speaker 1: called my wife and she told me to call Brock
- 27:13Speaker 1: Peters because Godfrey Cambridge, the comedian, had died, and they
- 27:17Speaker 1: wanted me to speak at his funeral. I spoke at
- 27:23Speaker 1: Godfrey Cambridge's funeral and at the funeral was Maya Angelou,
- 27:29Speaker 1: James Baldwin, Cecily Tyson, all Hollywood was there. And when
- 27:37Speaker 1: it was over, we went back to Brock's house and
- 27:41Speaker 1: I was sitting with Maya Angelou and James Baldwin, and
- 27:46Speaker 1: I told James Baldwin, I would like to do a
- 27:50Speaker 1: movie on the life of Malcolm. I think it would
- 27:53Speaker 1: be the greatest help to bring people from the street
- 27:58Speaker 1: to Islam. James Baldwin said, I wrote the first script.
- 28:08Speaker 1: He said, I don't know nobody that could do it
- 28:11Speaker 1: better than you. He said, I'll send you the script.
- 28:17Speaker 2: This was December.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I said, you know, Jimmy, I'll be in Egypt in February.
- 28:27Speaker 2: And he was living in southern.
- 28:29Speaker 1: France then and he was to meet me in Egypt
