Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider Podcast, where we bring you tips and inspiration each day to help you build habits for writing success.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: For more resources, including your free Daily Rider Starter Kit, visit DailyWriterLife.com.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: This week I've been sharing excerpts from a book that I published a few years ago.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: It's called The Artist Suitcase 26 Essentials for the Creative Journey.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: It's a short, fun read for all kinds of artists, particularly for writers.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Before I do that, though, I want to give you a quick update on some changes that you'll see here on the podcast starting December the 1st.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: The Daily Podcast launched three years ago in November of 2020.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And since that time, we've produced well over a thousand daily episodes and featured around 150 guest interviews or so.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And after talking so much about daily writing and the importance of writing habits, I want to shift the conversation to the biggest point of frustration that I hear about from writers, which is this how do you actually build a business around your writing?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm really excited to announce that on December the 1st, we will officially launch the Profitable Writer Podcast.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And the purpose of this show, as well as an upcoming book and a membership community that you'll hear about very soon, the purpose of all this is to give you the inspiration, motivation, and a clear roadmap to building a writing business that gives you a part-time or full-time income.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Now, the format of this podcast is going to be a little different than the daily writer show that you've been so used to the past few years.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: We're still going to do a weekly interview in addition to one or two episodes per week, but it's not going to be a daily podcast.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: So I would suggest that if you really love the daily podcast format with the short little episodes, you can go back into the archives and listen to any of the well over a thousand episodes that we have there.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So I think there's enough episodes there to keep you busy for a while.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You're going to hear a lot more in the coming weeks about the Profitable Writer podcast.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: You don't have to do anything different because it's going to stay in this same podcast feed.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: However, you'll notice a name change along with the new podcast artwork in whatever podcast player that you listen to this show in.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: As always, thanks for listening and let's get into today's episode.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Here's today's excerpt from the chapter B is for blank page.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Hope you enjoy it.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: The blank page represents the space where you create your art.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: It can be a computer, studio, canvas, or a literal blank page.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: When you look behind the page, you'll see two creatures, the monster and the muse.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: First there's the monster.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: The monster feeds on fear and like to taunt you with these kinds of thoughts.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: This won't be any good.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Nobody likes what you're doing.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: You'll never be a real artist.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: When are you going to give up these silly dreams?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Every time you think about quitting, you feed the monster.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Every time you tell yourself your art doesn't matter, you feed the monster.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Every time you listen to the naysayers and the doubters, you feed the monster.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Every time you let your dreams slip out the back door of your life, you feed the monster.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Stephen Pressfield calls this force resistance.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: In his landmark book, The War of Art, he writes, Resistance has no strength of its own.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Every ounce of juice it possesses comes from us.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: We feed it with power by our fear of it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: The monster feeds on fear, and you must starve it to death.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: But there is also the muse.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: The muse is a magical creature that brings out the best in you.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: The muse speaks words of life, hope, and beauty.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: You were born for this.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: You're making a difference in people's lives.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: There are people who love what you're doing.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: You have amazing potential.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: The muse feeds on faith and it is the wellspring of creativity within you.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: As a person of faith, I believe God has an awful lot to do with this.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: The muse gives you the power to inspire, teach, and bless others.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Every time you pick up your pen or paintbrush, you feed the muse.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Every time you put your head down and do the work, you feed the muse.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Every time you improve your skills, you feed the muse.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Every time you serve someone with your art, you feed the muse.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Look behind every blank page and you'll find the monster and the muse.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: One feeds on fear, the other feeds on faith.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Which one will you feed?
