- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Is that you, Wayne?
- 2:31SPEAKER_06: I'm right here, live and in color.
- 2:33SPEAKER_06: My name is Wayne Newton, and I got a song for you.
- 2:37SPEAKER_06: Strangers in the night.
- 2:40SPEAKER_06: Exchanging glances, wandering in the night.
- 2:43SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, get back to work.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: That's my way to where are you performing?
- 2:50SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, get back to work.
- 2:52SPEAKER_06: Well, uh, I just need to do this interview.
- 2:55SPEAKER_06: So anyway, I got another verse.
- 2:58SPEAKER_06: Strangers in the night.
- 3:00SPEAKER_06: You know that you're crawling the car, like wondering what they're doing outside your window.
- 3:05SPEAKER_06: You say, please stop.
- 3:06SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, stop singing that song, or I'm gonna cut your mic.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: I gotta say, that didn't sound like the Wayne Newton records I've heard, but you know, hey, he's gotten a little older.
- 3:16SPEAKER_06: Listen, I'm not Wayne Newton, I'm Dwayne Newton, his second cousin, twice removed.
- 3:21SPEAKER_06: Twice removed.
- 3:23SPEAKER_06: Yes, I'm gonna remove once by Casino Security and once by the Clark County Department of Hell.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Well, that that actually still makes you the best the biggest celebrity we've ever had on our show.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: So well, yeah.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: I'm excited.
- 3:36SPEAKER_06: Thank you very much.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And he's I'm excited.
- 3:38SPEAKER_06: Well, folks, I'm not Mr.
- 3:40SPEAKER_06: Las Vegas, but I'm Mr.
- 3:41SPEAKER_06: Ongles Las Vegas.
- 3:46SPEAKER_06: Um, ongoes, on girls, Las Vegas.
- 3:52SPEAKER_06: Hi, I'm April, his manager at Kroger's, and Dwayne, um, you actually met your famous cousin, right?
- 3:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he gave me his autograph once.
- 4:00SPEAKER_06: Autograph, that's really nice.
- 4:02SPEAKER_06: It was good and gold at the bottom of the restraining order.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, so so Dwayne Newton is is kind of like in the target sites of uh Wayne Newton, it sounds like, right?
- 4:15SPEAKER_06: Well, I wouldn't say that.
- 4:16SPEAKER_06: You see, I just recently got out of my famous cousin's shadow, but I had some help.
- 4:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he had an awful lot of help.
- 4:22SPEAKER_06: You see a security guard saw me walking behind him, threw me a hundred feet, and what do you know?
- 4:28SPEAKER_06: I'm out of his shadow.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, you know, as a professional host, this is one of those moments, Steve, where you know you have to kind of switch gears in the middle of the of the route.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's if that's the right term.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Got a lot of questions.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Most of them were for Wayne, but since you're his distant cousin, oh, he knows you could help us with a couple questions.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, he could answer maybe we could uh interview you as well, because I think you probably have the inside scoop.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: To be honest, I'm not sure Wayne would be as honest as his second cousin once removed would be.
- 5:03SPEAKER_06: Well, let's just put it this way: he's old Las Vegas, I'm new Las Vegas.
- 5:08SPEAKER_06: I tell people that I'm his cousin, and you know what they always say?
- 5:11SPEAKER_06: They say, Wow, I didn't know that he was still alive.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: Well, I you know, the way I I gotta admit, when uh our booker Tippy, you know, our our our manager, our our producer said uh that she got you on the show.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: I my first thought was is he still alive?
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: That's what I was thinking.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: And my second thought was even if he's not, that's okay with me.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Bring him on.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, bring him on.
- 5:33SPEAKER_06: Well, that that's what I said too.
- 5:34SPEAKER_06: You see, because Vegas is the home of the legacy artists.
- 5:37SPEAKER_06: You see, all the shows start at one o'clock, and it's because they have to be back at the home guy three.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Now, I I do have a question.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Did you say Dwayne?
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Is that your name?
- 5:49SPEAKER_06: Yes, my name is Dwayne Newton, and I'm Mr.
- 5:52SPEAKER_06: Ongos Las Vegas.
- 5:54SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, this is like come on, you you gotta like hurry this along.
- 5:57SPEAKER_06: We have a cleanup in our five, as I was saying.
- 5:59SPEAKER_06: I'm Mr.
- 6:00SPEAKER_06: Ongos Las Vegas.
- 6:02SPEAKER_06: Stop it, Dwayne, please.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Now I'm not familiar.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Is this a casino you're at, Dwayne?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Is it Croker Casino?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Is I think is that in Vegas?
- 6:11SPEAKER_06: Uh supermarket slot parlor because in Vegas we have slot machines everywhere.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, and our grocery store has slots, yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_06: Exactly, and I'm performing there.
- 6:20SPEAKER_06: You see, uh, I started out at Shop Right, but they didn't understand my creative vision, and they fired me for some of my original songs.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they don't have the good slots at ShopRate either.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: You know, they just have the they don't have like the like the Star Wars ones or the video game ones.
- 6:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and that's just like exactly, and you know what else was cruel?
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: They stuck me in the parking lot by the carts.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: I didn't even get on the main stage.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Is that right?
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: That's rude.
- 6:46SPEAKER_06: But I just want you fellas to know that I got hopes and I got dreams, and someday when they get a game license, I hope to appear at Whole Foods.
- 6:53SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: That's the spirit.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, that'd be great.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, get all those healthy upscale people into into gambling and and legacy music, you know.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, what's I could tell that the the Newton gene runs deep in your family.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: There's a gene now.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: I wait.
- 7:10SPEAKER_06: Well, there well, my sister is also in the business.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: She's a baker.
- 7:14SPEAKER_06: Your sister's a baker, yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_06: Her name is Fig, Fig Newton.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, was it was figs were figs named after her?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Because that would that sounds like a coincidence.
- 7:24SPEAKER_06: Well, actually, they were.
- 7:27SPEAKER_06: Well, then you see, fig and I don't talk.
- 7:30SPEAKER_06: You see, she's all full of fructose, yuck, yuck, yuck.
- 7:34SPEAKER_06: I feel about joking out six.
- 7:36SPEAKER_06: It really goes over.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: Well, and and yeah, she's got that high fructose corn syrup, and oh, yeah, you just probably don't want to hang with her, you know?
- 7:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I don't.
- 7:45SPEAKER_06: So, Dwayne, tell them about some of the audiences in the Kroger supermarket slot parlor.
- 7:49SPEAKER_06: How are they?
- 7:50SPEAKER_06: Well, she's good, so the audience is good, she's good.
- 7:54SPEAKER_06: Yes, and I have one little lady that I wrote a song for.
- 7:57SPEAKER_06: It's called it's called Hot Wheels.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, oh.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: Would you would you like to do the song for us uh on the show here?
- 8:05SPEAKER_06: Yes, I would.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 8:06SPEAKER_06: But but before, but okay, so so let's do it, let's hear the song.
- 8:10SPEAKER_06: Hot Wheels comes in in her electronic motor scooter.
- 8:17SPEAKER_06: She always comes to my show and she plays the slots.
- 8:22SPEAKER_06: She comes in those Hot Wheels and she's hot, and somebody sat in her machine and she said, get out of there.
- 8:31SPEAKER_06: Even though she's on the Hot Wheels, she still drinks the beer.
- 8:36SPEAKER_06: She gambles because she can, and once he sat in her machine, so she punched the man.
- 8:45SPEAKER_06: Has she heard this original yet?
- 8:48SPEAKER_06: No.
- 8:48SPEAKER_06: Is it is it because you haven't done it in a show?
- 8:51SPEAKER_06: No, I've sang in it and she forgot to turn on her hearing aid.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Boy, that you know, it sounds like you're singing about one of my aunts, you know what?
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Wheelchair and the drinking, that that really rang a bell with me, you know.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: Well, she's always at the same tiny slot machine, and she's really sweet.
- 9:07SPEAKER_06: And every time she's not Dwayne, she smiles because she doesn't have her hearing aid turned on.
- 9:13SPEAKER_06: Clean up an hour five.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: Whatever.
- 9:16SPEAKER_06: My manager at the Progress is really demanding, but she's better than my agent.
- 9:21SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 9:22SPEAKER_06: Your agent Morty.
- 9:23SPEAKER_06: How are things with Morty?
- 9:24SPEAKER_06: Things were slow, but then he got pearled.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: Ah hey, Morty probably knows your dad.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: I got a song for Jeff's Dead.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh, let's hear it.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: Song for Jeff Steve.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Love to hear it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_06: I fell into the burning ring of fire, and it burns, burns, burns.
- 9:41SPEAKER_06: He's not in Folsom prison.
- 9:43SPEAKER_06: He's in Juliet, he's in Juliet, and he fell into the burning ring of felonies.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: Well, they jammed up an innocent man.
- 9:54SPEAKER_06: He's in Juliet, he's in Juliet, and I did a show at Juliet, and they released the prisoners because they said this is cruel and unusual.
- 10:11SPEAKER_06: You finish your sentence.
- 10:14SPEAKER_06: So, Jeff, your dad should be getting out of prison college, and it's not because he's reformed, it's because of me.
- 10:27SPEAKER_06: Thank you very much.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: That was that was wonderful.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: What I was gonna ask you, two questions.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: One is well, one to tell you something, and the other is a question.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: I actually have a connection to your second cousin once removed.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Growing up, my dad's my dad's favorite song was Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast, which was uh a Wayne Newton hit.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: My dad used to say that when we would come out of banks and uh sometimes, you know, other places, he'd he'd say, Let's go, and then he'd tell me to sing Daddy, don't you walk so fast, and later I found out why he was walking so fast.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: But that was a a strong connection.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: The other the other one was that I actually dated a woman named uh Donna Shane, which was I think one of his hits.
- 11:18SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, Don Coshane, yes.
- 11:20SPEAKER_06: And how do you like Donna Now?
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Don Coltrane, I think it was.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: He was a famous jazz.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: Was it?
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it could be, it could be.
- 11:26SPEAKER_06: Uh well, Don, do you get along with Donna now?
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: I could sing a song about Donna.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I don't, but I'd love to hear a song.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe that would bring us back together.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Steve, you've got a love thing going on with uh someone so maybe you could help.
- 11:39SPEAKER_06: Donna Shane, darling, Donna Shane.
- 11:44SPEAKER_06: Thank you for all the joy and pain.
- 11:49SPEAKER_06: Picture show, second welcome.
- 11:53SPEAKER_06: That was where we meet.
- 11:55SPEAKER_06: Second seat, go to the street.
- 11:58SPEAKER_06: You were sweet, Donna Shane.
- 12:02SPEAKER_06: Donna Shane.
- 12:05SPEAKER_06: You still owe me that ten grand.
- 12:08SPEAKER_06: You no, no, Donna Shane.
- 12:10SPEAKER_06: Remember, we talked about this, Wayne.
- 12:12SPEAKER_06: You can't be doing that on the Kroger's mic.
- 12:15SPEAKER_06: Oh well, does Donna owe you money?
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I know that, Donna.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think she does.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't think she would say she doesn't owe it to me that it was uh got my money's worth, but yeah, it was a gift.
- 12:26SPEAKER_06: It was a gift, Donna Shane, darling, Donna Shane.
- 12:32SPEAKER_06: You lied about having that thing that made me.
- 12:35SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, you can't, you can't sing that.
- 12:39SPEAKER_06: You lied.
- 12:40SPEAKER_06: Well, it's Karina now five for for venereal infections because uh Donna Shane, Dwayne, Dwayne, Dwayne, you are in the Kroger site, stop it.
- 12:50SPEAKER_06: You see these women, they're always busting out chops, you know, guys.
- 12:56SPEAKER_06: Actually, yeah, poor chops and out six, poor chops and owl six.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Sorry, you know now.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: Dwayne, I got I I have a question.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: Now, how do you balance produce and music?
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: How did you maybe move from the produce aisle to the celebrity aisle, if you will?
- 13:12SPEAKER_06: Well, it took a lot of work and grit to move it to the main stage at Kroger's.
- 13:17SPEAKER_06: You see, I started at Frozen Foods.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's kind of like the lounge in Kroger's, right?
- 13:22SPEAKER_06: Ice cream is a frigid girl who won't return your calls.
- 13:27SPEAKER_06: She'll make you fat and sad till you don't want to live at all.
- 13:32SPEAKER_06: And and and I and you were fired for that song from um from the food line.
- 13:37SPEAKER_06: Yes, I will.
- 13:38SPEAKER_06: But I revamped my act, and I added jokes once I moved to fruit.
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: And tell them some of the jokes that the customers actually like.
- 13:46SPEAKER_06: Why can't you marry a melon?
- 13:48SPEAKER_06: Because they can't elope.
- 13:50SPEAKER_06: Yep, yeah.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: But you could you could do like a common law marriage with a melon, couldn't you?
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, you couldn't like cord or anything.
- 14:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, all right.
- 14:01SPEAKER_06: And my my next question is why is corn a good vegetable to talk to?
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 14:07SPEAKER_06: Because he's all ears, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: And in fact, that that kind of takes us back in one of the recent shows.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: We talked about the kernels and the corn.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: See, it's it's we Jeff, I love how we do these themes.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: We have the same, we have threads, we have common threads weaving through the suit that is this show.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: That is so exciting, Jeff.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: We do.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: April.
- 14:32SPEAKER_06: What it didn't cut the mustard.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Ah, couldn't catch up.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, just yeah, couldn't catch up.
- 14:39SPEAKER_06: Would I relish the opportunity to do these jokes for you, fellas?
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: I may or may not have to do it.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have a question for us to go on.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: April, so you're the manager, or you're the the Kroger's manager, not his manager.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Is that correct?
- 14:53SPEAKER_06: Uh yes, I'm I'm the Kroger's manager.
- 14:56SPEAKER_06: Uh, they hired him at the supermarket slot parlor because we're hiring talent, and he's actually the most consistent, even though he's not always perfect.
- 15:06SPEAKER_06: But Duane, um, tell them about some of the venues you played in in Las Vegas.
- 15:10SPEAKER_06: Well, little lady, I'll play at the El Cortez.
- 15:13SPEAKER_06: The El Cortez, that's a great Vegas venue.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_06: Actually, it was the El Cortez Cantina in Guadalajara.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: I think I think I got food poisoning there once.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:23SPEAKER_06: You probably do.
- 15:24SPEAKER_06: But before he came to us, uh, Dwayne, believe it or not, was doing the brothel circuit in Nye County.
- 15:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because prostitution is legal in Nevada.
- 15:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_06: And the uh Nye County Gazette gave you four bells, four bones, three golds, and a redhead.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Speaking of uh brothels, which we we like to do.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we do, yeah.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: We speak about that a lot.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: I know your cousin also made a lot of money with the song.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Maybe you could actually sing that for the young people who don't remember it.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, Red Roses for a blue lady.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Was that related to related to well?
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: I I always wondered if he's like it's if he was talking about like getting together with an alien, like coupling with an alien.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: That could be the blue man group, blue man groups or or avatar.
- 16:11SPEAKER_06: Well, there was a blue lady at one of our shows.
- 16:14SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 16:14SPEAKER_06: And I thought, well, she's awfully sad, but it turned out she needed C Pr.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, I bet.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: I bet.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Like deep Avatar blue.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: I get it.
- 16:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but I got I I got a song, Red Roses for a blue lady.
- 16:32SPEAKER_06: And she said, I don't need that, I need the hymn lick.
- 16:36SPEAKER_06: I said, You need red roses.
- 16:39SPEAKER_06: She said, I need the hind lick, and she started to choke.
- 16:44SPEAKER_06: So I didn't give her the hymn lick.
- 16:47SPEAKER_06: I gave her the red roses.
- 16:50SPEAKER_06: And she, okay, Dwayne, we're gonna cut this song off right now.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: You know, I just think this is not good for the Kroger's brand.
- 16:58SPEAKER_06: Remember, we talked about this?
- 17:00SPEAKER_06: Well, why don't I sing some more Dunkershane?
- 17:03SPEAKER_06: Dunk of Shane, darling, Dunkashane.
- 17:07SPEAKER_06: Thank you for walks down Lover's Lane.
- 17:12SPEAKER_06: Dunk of Shane, darling, dunk a shame.
- 17:17SPEAKER_06: Thank you for seeing me again.
- 17:21SPEAKER_06: Though we go on our separate ways, still the memory stays for a ways.
- 17:28SPEAKER_06: My heart says Dunkershane, Dunkash, darling, dunk a shame.
- 17:34SPEAKER_06: If you turn glue on one of my shows, the venue does have insurance.
- 17:38SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's not part of the song.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: You know, I gotta tell you, I shop at a Kroger Phillips.
- 17:44SPEAKER_06: I mean, I'm just a Kroger supermarket slot parlor manager.
- 17:48SPEAKER_06: I did not sign up to deal with talent.
- 17:50SPEAKER_06: Well, I just want to say something, little lady, that I dream about you.
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, that's sexual harassment.
- 17:56SPEAKER_06: But in my dreams, I'll buy you dinner on this show.
- 18:00SPEAKER_06: Because most men don't buy a woman dinner in their dreams.
- 18:02SPEAKER_06: It's you and I canoodling at Carl's Jr.
- 18:06SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: Be sure and get the bacon deluxe, you know.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: At least you can get that.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, I always spring for bacon deluxe.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: You know, and and and I gotta tell you, April, you know, I I think Kroger maybe is missing out.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: Because I actually I shop at a Kroger affiliate, and I you know if if he was entertaining at the store that I go to, I would buy more food.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: I'd go there more often.
- 18:29SPEAKER_06: We can buy more food.
- 18:30SPEAKER_06: Well, Dwayne, um, where's your Kroger affiliate?
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's in uh Omaha.
- 18:34SPEAKER_06: Omaha.
- 18:35SPEAKER_06: So so Dwayne, you did a show in Omaha.
- 18:38SPEAKER_06: Yes, I did a show, but I was banned from Omaha, Nebraska.
- 18:42SPEAKER_06: Why were you being?
- 18:43SPEAKER_06: Well, I sang a song about I sang a song about butterscotch.
- 18:48SPEAKER_06: Butterscotch?
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: Yes, I said butterscotch is tasty and she's she why were you being her singing about butterscotch?
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: Well, butterscotch was a sheep.
- 19:01SPEAKER_06: Well, why were you being about singing about a sheep?
- 19:03SPEAKER_06: Well, butterscotch was the sheriff's girl.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I knew her, in fact.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: She was Italian, she's shortened her name from Butterscotchetti, but yeah, no, I knew her.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: I think we're onto something here, April, because I know you probably don't enjoy working with the talent, but you brought to but you brought to this show a celebrity, and I'm just wondering, are there other employees that have special talents that work at Kroger's that you've been able to mentor?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Because you've done a great job with Dwayne.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: Honestly, a lot of the other talent at Kroger's, I don't deal with them.
- 19:38SPEAKER_06: Management deals with them.
- 19:40SPEAKER_06: Um, as a matter of fact, Dwayne is very persistent.
- 19:43SPEAKER_06: As a matter of fact, we fired him once.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: Ah.
- 19:46SPEAKER_06: And he just kept coming back into work.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: So we just paid him, and we even paid him to go away.
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: But he just kept singing.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: And when you paid him to go away, he said, Well, hey, if you pay that was nice, I'll go away again if you pay me again.
- 19:59SPEAKER_06: So that's what I said.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it keeps going.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 20:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it keeps going.
- 20:04SPEAKER_06: And you know, but I just did a show with my famous cousin.
- 20:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, tell him about doing the show at the Flamingo.
- 20:10SPEAKER_06: What was it like?
- 20:11SPEAKER_06: Well, I stepped out on stage and what do you know?
- 20:14SPEAKER_06: I couldn't hear anything.
- 20:16SPEAKER_06: Why couldn't you hear anything?
- 20:17SPEAKER_06: Well, the janitor was running the vacuum.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: Oh, that'll happen.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: That happens when the show's kind of between shows, yeah.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but plus you're not used to it.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: You got the hardwood floors probably at Kroger, right?
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Or it's or it's linoleum or something.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: So there's probably not a lot of vacuuming going on at Kroger's.
- 20:34SPEAKER_06: Well, but it's nice when I hear young people that have heard of my cousin.
- 20:38SPEAKER_06: You see, they say, I saw your cousin's album, and I said, Really, where?
- 20:42SPEAKER_06: They said my grandmother's estate sale.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: You know, I actually was looking forward to I was gonna ask, like, what nicknames your second cousin uses.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: I uh somebody said asked me who was gonna be on the show this week, and I said, Wayne Newton, and they said little Wayne, and you know that.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, I was not aware that that was a name that you go by, and it looks like you some makeup is used in yellow.
- 21:08SPEAKER_06: I tried going by that name, and you know what happened?
- 21:11SPEAKER_06: This fella who said that he was a rapper with all these tattoos on his face threatened to sue me.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Something like does he work at Kroger's too?
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: Well, he should be working at Kroger's because he's broke right now.
- 21:24SPEAKER_06: Well, I have a song about him.
- 21:26SPEAKER_06: Little Wayne tried to sue me, and I had to reply, and he tried to sue me, and I said, Why?
- 21:35SPEAKER_05: And I said, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:43SPEAKER_06: And I said, Why, wa, wa.
- 21:45SPEAKER_05: And he said, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: You know, that was wonderful.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: I I think it it's that conflict, it's that dichotomy, it's that dynamic, it's that, it's that alpha omega, it's that yin yang that really makes entertainment exciting.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: You know, and that's really what that's I I gotta think, Dwayne, that's really what's gonna bring you to the stage.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: That's gonna make you the really the the star that you deserve to be.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: And can I tell you this?
- 22:08SPEAKER_06: My cousin was the midnight idol, but I am the frozen food idol.
- 22:13SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 22:13SPEAKER_06: I am the Kroger supermarket slot parlor idol.
- 22:16SPEAKER_06: But Dwayne, are you worried that you know Vegas doesn't have slot parlors anymore?
- 22:22SPEAKER_06: Well, it's how my cousin was discovered.
- 22:24SPEAKER_06: Well, that was like 60 years ago.
- 22:26SPEAKER_06: Well, the GM of Caesar's palace has some shop somewhere.
- 22:29SPEAKER_06: And besides, that's how Bobby Darren discovered him.
- 22:33SPEAKER_06: Dwayne, most folks don't know who Bobby Darren is anymore.
- 22:36SPEAKER_06: Unless they use that Wikipedia.
- 22:39SPEAKER_06: Do you fellas use that Wikipedia?
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: Yo, I use it.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: I I find it's really it it I got some dry skin on my feet, and it really softens the feet really well.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I think it's pretty good.
- 22:48SPEAKER_06: By the way, we have a special on foot cream in our three, so you know.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: Oh see, such great information, Jeff.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: This is such good knowledge to have for all the the millions of listeners.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Let's be honest.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: The millions of listeners.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: And you know what, Steve?
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: We're we're filling out our team, you know, the Steve and Jeff team.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: And looks to me like we've got a chance to to bring Dwayne on as a official singer.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Or we don't have a singer.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: We don't have a singer.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: We don't.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: And we April could be our talent specialist.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: And thank you.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: She could help us on grocery shopping.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: We don't have a grocery specialist, and and you know, I know I'm wasting money.
- 23:26SPEAKER_06: I would love to be your talent specialist because I'm I fell into this accidentally through Dwayne.
- 23:31SPEAKER_06: And he, you know, but I'd have to say that Dwayne is hardworking and he's very appreciative.
- 23:37SPEAKER_06: And I got a song for Steven Jeff.
- 23:39unknown: Yeah.
- 23:40SPEAKER_06: Dunkers, darling, dunk a shame.
- 23:43SPEAKER_06: Thank you, Stephen Jeff, for giving me this chance again.
- 23:47SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna be more famous than my second cousin's last move, because he's meanily gollogy.
- 23:54SPEAKER_06: But guess what?
- 23:55SPEAKER_06: He's not gonna eclipse me, Dunkers, darling, dunk a shame.
- 24:01SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 24:03SPEAKER_06: Come to the slack parlor again, April.
- 24:05SPEAKER_06: I just wanted you to know that I want to be your mister, okay?
- 24:08SPEAKER_06: I don't see you that way.
- 24:11SPEAKER_06: But I have a hell's a job in a car, an offer that's gonna take you far.
- 24:16SPEAKER_06: Wow, this is the best thing that's happened to me my whole life.
- 24:21SPEAKER_06: I think I might almost want to become your wife.
- 24:24SPEAKER_06: I'll live in my car and I'll work more time for Grow Pub.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: No.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: Gosh, Jeff, we're not only seeing musical talent, but we're seeing managerial talent.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: We're seeing a romance, we're seeing a future designed between Dwayne and April.
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: You know, I I thought it would be an entertaining show, but this I had no, I no way to expect that.
- 24:44SPEAKER_06: Well, thank you.
- 24:45SPEAKER_06: The other day I got April some concomitary flowers.
- 24:48SPEAKER_06: I don't know if I called them complimentary, Dwayne.
- 24:51SPEAKER_06: I went to the cemetery, and as I was taking them, I looked at the deceased and I said, Thank you, and I walked away.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: That's a nice compliment.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: They may not have had their hearing aid on in the cemetery there, it's possible.
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: But but the lady was 100 when she died, so maybe she was buried with them.
- 25:07SPEAKER_06: But let me tell you, yeah, a lot of those flowers are trouble.
- 25:11SPEAKER_06: I had to rip the sign off that said mom.
- 25:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's right.
- 25:15SPEAKER_06: You did.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: So, Dwayne, it sounds like you you're a prolific songwriter.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: It turns out that Steve and I, back in the old days when we were young, were also songwriters and performers.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: And yes, we have a song that we're preparing to relaunch to a new generation.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Would you be interested in maybe singing that song for us if we put something together?
- 25:38SPEAKER_06: Yes, I would.
- 25:39SPEAKER_06: I would absolutely be interested in singing that song.
- 25:42SPEAKER_06: You see, because let me tell you how my famous cousin got Dunkershane.
- 25:47SPEAKER_06: Goggy Darren got Dunkershane, and he said, This is not a Goggy Darren song.
- 25:52SPEAKER_06: And he saw my cousin singing in a slot parlor, and he said, Would you like to sing Dunkershane?
- 25:59SPEAKER_06: And he said, Dunkershane, Nolan, Dunkershain.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: They they get the point.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, Steve, maybe we should do something with that.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: I think you know, it's just great getting these little showbiz inside pointers and tips.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: And and you know, Jeff, we we 50 years ago when we wrote that song, I know the song you're thinking of.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: And when we wrote that, we had high showbiz hopes and dreams, but maybe we didn't have the connections to make it happen.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Maybe now we do, Jeff.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Maybe now we do.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: It's all about timing and talent.
- 26:31SPEAKER_06: It's all about time and talent and connections, and that's why I'm working hard at the Kroger Supermarket Slot parlor, because someday Wagley Darren's second grandson bus removed, will be shopping there.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 26:43SPEAKER_06: And what will he what will he do for you?
- 26:46SPEAKER_06: Well, he'll have a song and he'll say, Dwayne, I have a song and it doesn't work for me.
- 26:51SPEAKER_06: Maybe it can work for you.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Well, there's a lot of removal going on in Vegas, isn't there?
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: I do a lot of holes in that desert, I think.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Is I I guess I've heard of it.
- 27:03SPEAKER_06: Squash one nail college.
- 27:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, there you go.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Well, I I definitely think that there's a we definitely want you back and maybe come back and perform one of our original songs, which would be outstanding.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: Now you don't know.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: Jeff, we Jeff, we should ask first.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: You don't you wouldn't mind if the material was a little might be offensive to some people?
- 27:22SPEAKER_06: Well, listen, some of my songs are considered offensive to some people.
- 27:26SPEAKER_06: Let me sing you my song about Wednesday.
- 27:30SPEAKER_06: Wednesday was a hunk day, it's a hunk day, you're over the hump.
- 27:36SPEAKER_06: And that song got you banned from another state fair.
- 27:38SPEAKER_06: Why is that?
- 27:40SPEAKER_06: Well, the head of the state fair, his daughter was a hunchback.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: I think he'd be fine with our material.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: I don't see a problem with that.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: I do too.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: Uh all right.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: Well, we'll we'll shoot that over now.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: April, can can you sort of act as his manager for now?
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Or is there another is there a manager in an appointment with you?
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: I act as his business manager.
- 28:03SPEAKER_06: Um, believe it or not, he's starting to get some um dates from Kroger's.
- 28:09SPEAKER_06: You got a date at the cosmopolitan.
- 28:12SPEAKER_06: Yes, I got a date at the cosmopolitan baby.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: That's a fancy place.
- 28:17SPEAKER_06: That's a really fancy place.
- 28:18SPEAKER_06: Well, it was actually the cosmopolitan of Bullhead City.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: Um, okay.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Well, it was like a place where they hear good things about it.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: They gave you a cosmopolitan to drink, right?
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: That was your complimentary drink, right?
- 28:30SPEAKER_06: Uh exactly.
- 28:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, okay.
- 28:33SPEAKER_06: You know, and here's the thing, that gig was really confusing because I get off stage and I see bullets flying, and I thought they didn't like me.
- 28:41SPEAKER_06: But then when I saw the bullets, I realized this was their way of applauding.
- 28:45SPEAKER_06: That's how they applaud your head city.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bullets say rough place, rough place.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: Especially with that Colorado River going down.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: That's just mmm, they're they're kind of they're it's kind of on edge over there, you know.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: You you gotta be careful.
- 28:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but let me tell you that I come a long way from my hungle beginnings when I won a talent show.
- 29:04SPEAKER_06: Really?
- 29:04SPEAKER_06: Who did you win against?
- 29:06SPEAKER_06: Essie the singing pig.
- 29:08SPEAKER_06: It was incredible, but it really wasn't a big deal.
- 29:11SPEAKER_06: That that actually is a big deal, Dwayne.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: Well, it really wasn't.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: Stop being so modest.
- 29:17SPEAKER_06: She had laryngitis.
- 29:19SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Well, but but a singing pig.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: I mean, that that's a high talent mark, and you be the singing pig, uh, laryngitis, okay, but still you be the singing pig, right?
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: I mean, excuse me, excuse me.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: I don't know what he's doing.
- 29:33SPEAKER_06: Oh, oh, oh, you want to get that in frozen food.
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: Now, I got a joke about popsicles.
- 29:40SPEAKER_06: What's your joke about popsicles, Wayne?
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: I'm about to sell some popsicles.
- 29:44SPEAKER_06: What do coxicles and Disney have in common?
- 29:47SPEAKER_06: What?
- 29:48SPEAKER_06: They're frozen.
- 29:50SPEAKER_06: Yuck yes, yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: And and just ahead, too.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: Imagine that.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Well, this has been uh enlightening, and I think it better than if Wayne had been here.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: What would Wayne have done?
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Sat there and tell us about shit that happened in 1962.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're talking about currents.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Wayne would have come in and said, Hey, I'm a show business legend.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: I have a lot of money.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: I remember Joey Bishop.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: Joey Bishop, yeah, Lucille Ball.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 30:18SPEAKER_06: Well, actually, yeah, I'm not sure when he could have gotten there.
- 30:21SPEAKER_06: I'm not sure that he could have gotten there because I hear that he doesn't know how to turn on a computer.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, wow.
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: Well, because hey, you know, that's yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: That may be true, because you know, it one of the drawbacks of being as successful as Wayne Newton is you know, you got people that can do all that for you.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: He probably doesn't know how to do any of that.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: Plus, he was a handsome guy, you know.
- 30:43SPEAKER_06: He's a handsome guy.
- 30:44SPEAKER_06: Well, uh, you know, but I really think that we should use him to sell gel at Krogers.
- 30:49SPEAKER_06: Why is that?
- 30:51SPEAKER_06: Well, it's been almost 60 years and his hair's never moved.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: So true.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: And not a wrinkle, not a wrinkle on his face.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: I'm still amazed.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, boy, that anti-stretch cream must be just wonderful what he uses.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: And good living.
- 31:05SPEAKER_03: Good living, living.
- 31:07SPEAKER_06: Good living, good living, and the anti-stretch cream.
- 31:09SPEAKER_06: Well, let me tell you though, you know, all his shows are walker friendly.
- 31:13SPEAKER_06: And and why do you say that, Wayne?
- 31:15SPEAKER_06: Because you need a walker to get in.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we probably I I would imagine his average fan age is uh you know, is up there, you know.
- 31:24SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, I tried to use the hey little Darlin thing, and you know what they said at Kroger's?
- 31:29SPEAKER_06: They said if you say that again, we're gonna have to call the cops.
- 31:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so times are changing.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: I bet.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, you can't can't get away with what you used to be able to get away with there, I'll tell you.
- 31:40SPEAKER_06: And then I and then I said to a young lady, hey little sweetie, when I was singing to her, like my cousin used to, and you know what she screamed?
- 31:48SPEAKER_06: Me too!
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the world has changed, which could be an issue in terms of performing that song, but you know what?
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll play with it and kind of update it a little bit.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Maybe we can shoot it off to you and your manager, and maybe you could take a look at it and tell me what you think.
- 32:05SPEAKER_06: I would love to your standards.
