- 0:14[SPEAKER_04]: Can I blame Michael Cassfield for this?
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Can I blame Bob Connelly for this?
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: Can I put on a zebra shirt and just go out there?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: Scratch, claw, up against the wall.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: Can I explain that one feeling right now, guys?
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: I can't believe it.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let's open up that raised ball.

- 1:13[SPEAKER_09]: At least at Ertau.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_09]: Hello, everybody.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_09]: Hello, we are back.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_09]: A little bit later than normal we've had a bunch of stuff going on over here, but we are live.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_09]: And if you listen to the carcass, we got to the end.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_09]: We alluded to some sort of like announcement or something that was podcast related coming up in this episode, so let's see you have the floor.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the the TLDR or didn't listen is I'm going to be stepping away from the podcast for a few weeks.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: Michael is going to be having some guests fill in for me, which is going to be really, really fun for you guys.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a whole array of people who are going to going to grace you with their with their dulcet tones.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the longer version of this is that earlier this year I was diagnosed with in autoimmune disease called showgreens.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: And to put it simply, it's been kicking my ass.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: And it has come to a point where it is time for me to step back from some of the heavier work stuff that I've been doing.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm taking a break.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: And hopefully, I will be able to get my health as strong and as good as possible.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: And that I will be coming back stronger than ever in a few weeks.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: I can't give you an exact return date, but it will be a little while.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that trick comes over to lick my arm.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and yeah, that'll be, that'll be that it's not, it's not the end of the world.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: I will be back.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you don't have to worry about me or about Michael.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: We've got it all.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can worry about Michael for sure.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: You should always be worrying about Michael.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but yeah, it's just, uh, it's just, you know, sometimes you have to prioritize your health.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: And well, being, and that is what I am doing.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, this will be my last podcast for a while.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: But obviously, it's a bummer because podcasting is still one of my favorite things to do in the world.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's just something that has to be done.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the little announcement.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, this was something that came together a couple of weeks ago was something that we had talked about before the Oregon game and the Oregon game.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for the record, I'm not like leaving.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not abandoning the ship because USC makes me miserable.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: I will still be watching and consuming USC and complaining and all of that.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, this was definitely
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: This is something that has been brewing for a while and has nothing to do with USC's performance this season.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, yeah, we appreciate all the the kind thoughts in the comments.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_09]: You guys are awesome.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, going forward.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_09]: We will have the plan right now is to have guest hosts on preview and follow that episodes and we're going to get weird.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_09]: I think I'm going to roll solo on carcass.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_09]: Which is truly going to test the idea that people tune in for you and not meet when the viewership here on YouTube at least, you know, absolutely takes a plummet.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now, people will still love it, people will still enjoy.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, and for the record, I will probably end up in the chat with you guys during episodes.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I will definitely during games in the like I will be on the discord so if you're missing me too much then you could definitely know where to find me.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm on Twitter, I'll be on discord and I'll be around so it's not like I'm completely banishing or anything like that.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just not going to be on air.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, so it'll just be in the shadows, quite literally.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: You may still be able to hear me screaming, you know, often the distance.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: This is true.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, doing your, um, your melody from Big Brother Scream.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, post game, maybe you can call on the rant line, who knows?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, um, anyways, shout out to Dan who popped in with the super chat.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_07]: We appreciate you.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you very much, Dan.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, Tim, then all I say is if we lose another game,
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: uh... yeah probably probably i don't know that it isn't entertaining i i think that you need to take on the mantle of the rant king and give give your best
- 6:17[SPEAKER_09]: Brands should I should I do an Alicia impression.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you should do an only.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_09]: This would be a Halloween episode.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_09]: I dressed up as you.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: Did I just spoiled that?
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: Where I'll ever pull Liverpool shirt?
- 6:29[SPEAKER_09]: No, we're not going to go that far.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_09]: We're not going to go that far, but yeah, that will that will be something to keep an eye on going forward Wednesday.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_09]: We're super excited about the guests that we have lined up so far.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_09]: I want to get reach out and get people on on the pod will be rotating and all that stuff.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_09]: So stay tuned for that.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_09]: I think on the next episode we're going to have gypsy boots.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: No, I feel like this is a reference.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_09]: I'm simply not getting tipsy about just this dude, who went to like SC games, ramps games, and like the 70s, and Dr. Games, and he would have like bells.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_09]: He'd like cosplay almost like full kit wanker, and he'd have bells that he would be ringing like cow bells and stuff like that.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: No, I have no concept of this in the slightest.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: No idea at all.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: None.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: OK.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good name, though, Gypsy Boots.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right?
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: Don't pick cat.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_09]: Google Gypsy Boots.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_09]: And you'll say, don't Google Gypsy Rose.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's the first thing I was thinking of, because I'm true crime brain.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 7:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: Isn't Wikipedia for this dude?
- 8:02[SPEAKER_02]: Is there really what does it say?
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: Gypsy boots, born Robert Bootson, B-O-O-T-Z-I-N. Also known as Boots Bootson, was an American fitness pioneer actor and writer.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_09]: He's a real dude.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_09]: Big ass thief in.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: Today I learned he died in 2004.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get into a little bit of the news.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_09]: Um, we don't have a new game time to discuss because the game times for U.S.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_09]: He's by week came out today.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_09]: And of course, SC, uh, is not playing, uh, next week.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_09]: They play Penn State this upcoming week, but next week, they will be off, uh, ahead of the road trip to Wisconsin.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_09]: updated polls though u.s. see down one spot to number 19 in the AP poll Ohio State is fifth in the and dropped one to number seven organ up to spots to number 13 on their by week
- 9:15[SPEAKER_09]: Iowa down six after losing to Ohio State in Iowa City.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_09]: UCLA, another bi-week team who moves up.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_09]: They move up two spots the number 21.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_09]: And Wisconsin after a jiggle bagging of Michigan State is now up to number 28.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_09]: If we're including teams receiving votes, they have 88 votes.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_09]: Your thoughts on the polls?
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: U.S.C.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: moving down doesn't bother me because anyone who watched that game, I don't know how anyone would have come away more impressed with U.S.C.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: after that game, I know that people will complain about Oregon and UCLA moving up even though they were on buys.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: I just like to always remind people that the polls are multidimensional and Oregon and UCLA moving up.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: was not a reward for anything.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: It was simply teams in front of them lost.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: It really is that simple.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, Florida loses, drops behind Oregon, Oregon's going to move up.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody else lost in front of them, too.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just one of those things that is,
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: just always going to be a feature of the poll and USC doesn't get the benefit of the doubt because USC didn't play well so it's really that simple.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: I did look up if there is, you know, what are the chances of Wisconsin being ranked when USC plays them on October 24th?
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: They're on a by week this week, then they play UCLA.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: So it could be interesting.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: If they beat UCLA, they will certainly be ranked.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like them beating UCLA at the Rose Bowl though.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, I think that'll be an interesting game, by the way.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_09]: Two teams that have a lot to prove this year, two teams that are trending in the right direction so far this season, at least.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_09]: That'll be an interesting one.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_09]: from Trojan fights.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_09]: Trojan fights keeping up the good fight for night games.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_09]: Trojan fights says, so Penn State gets a night game.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_09]: What time was USC Penn State in 2024?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_09]: I want to say it was maybe 230, so not a night game, surely the big time will give USC a night game next year versus Penn State at home question mark.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_09]: That game is 12 30 on CBS, which is the prime
- 11:46[SPEAKER_09]: It's basically what it's the showcase spot for the big 10 is the 1230 CBS game.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, so it's it's the like number would Maybe number one pick or number two pick in terms of of where a big 10 game is going to end up depending on the week depending on the week sure But no S C's never gonna have a night game like true night game seven o'clock eight o'clock against Penn State
- 12:11[SPEAKER_09]: That's it's not going to happen.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be 430.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_09]: The only time S C's going to play a Penn State team at like eight o'clock on the big 10 network.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_09]: Well, first of all, it would be on the big 10 network and people wouldn't be happy with that.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_09]: And also it would require.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_09]: both teams to not be interesting or not be good or watchable or any of those things on a week in which the watchable teams, the interesting teams have games that are more interesting.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_09]: it's just it's just how the time zones are not a u.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_09]: There you go.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_09]: That one is.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_09]: If it's 430.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_09]: I would say it's like the second half will be under the lights.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's very likely 430.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: I guess if USC loses the next two games, who knows?
- 13:11[SPEAKER_09]: There's no way it's going to be the 8 o'clock or?
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not going to be late.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be the two options for that are essentially noon, Pacific, or 430 Pacific.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: I don't see it being anywhere else.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_09]: All right, let's get into looking back a little bit at the U.S.C.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_09]: Washington game, S.E.E.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_09]: went to the game 25-21, at least the PFF grades are out, you get thoughts on those.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_02]: Not too many, honestly, the grades were just pretty mediocre in general.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: Tenokines was USC's top rated player on offense, just ahead of Jordan, Jade Mayava.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: On defense, Cam Crawford and Tamara Robinson, we're both above 80, which is good to see especially for Tamara Robinson, who I think we observed at the time had a good game certainly better than I
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: Then I worried would happen with him having to come in and be a starter, but he went out there and did his job, and it was really good to see from him in that respect.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: It was a true like next man up kind of performance, which is which is great.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: The big thing I took from this is that Riley Wormley, who felt like he had a pretty big role in this game.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_09]: going in or like having watched it.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: Having watched it like I felt like he was active.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: He had a bunch of passes thrown his way and sort of I just he only had seven snaps.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_09]: It feels about right?
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: I just saw that and was like he had one more snap than Sean Holston.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: Just feels, I don't know, just seems strange to me, and then the big observation is basically everyone on the offensive line was bad, except for Kaylin Miller, who was fine, and Justin Tavernoo, who was like close to being fine.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I don't think that sometimes the BFF grades show a picture that like gives clarification on one thing or the other, or pulls out something that I hadn't thought of or whatever.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to be honest, I looked at these grades and was like, yeah.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, uh, Jim Stewart was 77.8 so improvement from last week and, uh, and I thought that was that meets the I test as well.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, we talked in the overunders and we're going to get to this in a couple minutes, but like things like pressures, a lot of the numbers for SC's defense in the metrics there about getting to or near demand Williams were good.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_09]: And I think that like you look at the numbers, the Mont Williams, he had, I think there was 25 pressures which again, we're going to mention the overunder, but like it was like half of his dropbacks.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: We're like more than half of it felt like he was running for his life a lot of the time and I think one of the things that we noticed at the time was that early in the game He was getting away from a lot of that pressure because they were giving him a route to the outside and he was taking it and I think the big difference in the second half when USC
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: starts to actually take him death sacks is that the pressure off the edge was a little bit more disciplined, I think, and kept him contained within the pocket, and then opened up opportunities for to get corralled.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a really positive sign from them.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, we talked about
- 17:09[SPEAKER_09]: The key is to continue to make that the thing.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_09]: There's game.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_09]: I was very clear that S.C. did not force to continue.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_09]: And
- 17:21[SPEAKER_09]: Washington struggles did continue on offense.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_09]: SC struggles on offense themselves were the things that was probably more so than we then we thought.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_09]: I looked at the 5.22 yards per play that SC had in the game against Washington.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_09]: The lowest in a home game in the Lincoln Rally era.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_09]: Which is kind of surprising, but then you think about it, you're like, okay, I guess that checks out.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_09]: There were a couple of games that were close, the Iowa game last year had the same number of total yards, 360, but yeah, I see struggled offensively to move the ball consistently and 5.222.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_09]: My new 5.222, like if that's your worst, is not the worst worst to have.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_09]: No, but it's still, it being the lowest of the Lincoln right in the era.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_09]: I think is nowhere there.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think it is interesting to because Trojan's live tonight, Lincoln or Lincoln Riley talked a lot about how the issues on offense he sort of pinned them on the penalty issues.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: And certainly the penalties are a problem.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: But correct me if I'm wrong, like penalties are not factored into yards for play or anything like that.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: So it wasn't just the penalty issues that USC was was was was experiencing when it came to what the offense was doing.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: The output from the offense was also lower and some of that was the run game.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: Instead of getting, you know, five, six yards of pop, they were probably getting two, three yards of pop.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think they ended up averaging 3.5 yards per carry.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: So, or was it, I don't know, I might be getting the two teams mixed up, but either way, it just felt like a day where the offense was out of sync in a lot of ways, and it wasn't just because of the penalties, the penalties were obviously back breaking at times,
- 19:23[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I think it's going to be one of those things where you got to get past all the penalties because I think the penalties were a big issue, but I think it's also simplifying it a lot.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_09]: And this is one of the things, too, like if you just get, if you fix the penalties and you had a game where, you know, it wasn't your best enough ends about puts.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_09]: but you managed against a good defense, but you at least played clean on your own account, like you win this game by a couple scores.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_09]: And so to that point, I think Lincoln Riley is right about the penalties being the issue, but like it's only half the story, you know what I mean?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_09]: Like there's a world in which they had all the penalty issues and they still were able to move the ball more efficiently and be successful that way too.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 100%.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, you got a boa over that?
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, there's something behind the chair that Badger is really interested in and he keeps getting up.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Hi.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_09]: Anyway, let's get to over under, shall we?
- 20:39[SPEAKER_09]: Take your going over.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_06]: I think we would bowl, give me that over.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going, I got to take it under here.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_06]: I got three under to take.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to do an under here.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_09]: We start with USC's over under game against Washington.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_09]: We put together, you said over under 131.1, demon Williams passer rating quarterback rating.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_09]: It was over.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_09]: It was a 134.4, another one of those, those games were like, we were setting the line on these things rather close.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_09]: I don't want to like, you know, tune our own horn too much.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_09]: But I think we put these lines in good spots.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, sometimes we get it, sometimes we get it right.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: And, and, and in, and in this case,
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was like, it did feel like a 135-ish kind of game where it's like, you're not terrible, you're not having like a god awful game, but you're also not having a good game.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's where Demon Williams was basically at.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_09]: I like, I don't know that Demon Williams was very effective, per se.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_09]: especially because he was under to rest so much, but to his credit, he didn't make the back baking breaking mistake.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_09]: He didn't throw an asseption.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_09]: If you do that, your passer rating is not going to be terrible.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_09]: And so it gets the over.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_09]: Next one, I said over under 399 total yards for the Washington Huskies.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_09]: I took the under.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_09]: You took the over.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_09]: It was under.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_09]: It was 319.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, if you were told pre-game that they'd be at 319, I think you'd take that.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you had told me post game that they were at 319, I would have with a little surprise to be honest, it felt like more.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, I think that what USC did do a good job is not getting beat through the air too much, USC was giving up more on the ground than anyone would have liked to see, but also
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: Washington's ground game was still kind of limited in the same way that USC's was, where there weren't any big pops, there were just, you know, averaging, you know, a true three yards of carry, getting four on a good carry kind of thing.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it wasn't a ton of sort of
- 23:11[SPEAKER_09]: We talked about this before, like you look at S.C. defensive metrics and things like first down rates or busted drive rates is good for U.S.C.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_09]: defense because they do force a lot of three now and they do force a lot of drives that have no first down system general or like Washington in this game.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_09]: One, two, three, four,
- 23:37[SPEAKER_09]: five, six drives that were punts and had four fewer place.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_09]: Like that's good, but then you juxtapose it with 15 plays for 77 yards on that drive at the end where Washington ultimately stalls at the NSC gets the the incompletion in the end zone and the touchdown drives before and after the half 80 and 60 yards.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_09]: So like those two drives and the drive at the end.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_09]: Like, that's 90% of their yardage right there.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_09]: Everything else, S.E.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_09]: did not allow much.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_09]: But you need more consistency, rather than like, I think it's good that S.E.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_09]: does force a lot of three and outs, but it needs to not be boomer boss where it's three and outs or 80 or drive.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it needs to like you'll take a 20 yard six play drive a few times in you know you'll trade some of those three three announced for those.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get to the next one which was over under 16 and a half USC pressures on demand Williams.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_09]: I took the under
- 24:57[SPEAKER_09]: You took the under.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_09]: It was over 25.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_09]: We talked about this that like SC at 69 pressures coming into the game.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_09]: They almost had half of that in this game against Washington.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_09]: Demon Williams in this game.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_09]: 26 pass attempts.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_09]: He ran the ball 13 times.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_09]: So if we just assume that all of those runs were still dropbacks, just it wasn't the case, but let's just for easy to see them were.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, most of them were a little scrambles, right?
- 25:32[SPEAKER_09]: That's 29 plays that could have been dropbacks 25 pressures.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_09]: Again, that's that's two thirds, two thirds.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, USC was getting in his face a lot.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: We had talked about how one of the issues for Washington was perhaps that he doesn't get rid of the ball quickly enough and that they either he's not getting rid of the ball quickly enough or their offense doesn't build in enough quick passes to neutralize a pass rush.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: And so that may be part of why it's so much more for USC in this game than in previous games.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: But also it just felt like USC was just getting there,
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: quickly and from all angles and also I think a big factor here is that USC was blitzing.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: They were, they were blitzing Alex Graham, they were blitzing Kennedy Urlacker, the linebackers, and the like, and this is something that, you know, maybe earlier in the season like we all thought potentially could be the case, they really thought we can just have these front four and get pressure from them without having to send guys only to realize that maybe that
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: a more aggressive blitzing strategy in this game seemed to have paid off.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I can't reference the exact stats.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe for the preview all, I'll make sure to get those to you.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: But something about like Penn State against the blitz has been pretty darn, pretty darn bad.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: So something to think about going forward.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, we talked to I, I'm really interested to talk about the Penn State game on Wednesday, because there's a lot of comparisons to the Oregon game in the sense of like it's two teams who need to win so badly on Saturday.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_09]: So that'll be it'll be in fascinating matchup and we'll talk more about that on Wednesday.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_09]: But
- 27:22[SPEAKER_09]: Next over under was over under 99 and a half King Miller rushing yards.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_09]: I took the over you took the under.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_09]: It was under was 81.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_09]: 81 not a bad day for King Miller, but 18 carries 81 yards average of 4.5 yards per carry.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_09]: He did have a long of 35.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_09]: take out the long and then you have 17 carries for what 46 yards.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_09]: That's not great.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: No, I just think during the game it just didn't feel like there was a lot of running room for any of the running backs and I thought that King did well with what he was given.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that he ran hard and basically got every every inch that was available to him throughout the game.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think it was bad game at all.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think he did his job
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: when you have an offensive line that doesn't really click in this game, that is obviously going to impact what you're running back, so we're able to produce.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody in the chat asked earlier about this being the worst run performance that run block performance that USC has had and if Hayden Treader was missed, that could be the case too, but also like Kaylin Miller is pretty good in the
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: Could be could certainly could be part of it.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not really get out.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Trader has been sort of a good presence in that in that regard, but I think it also just speaks more to maybe organ Stephen Washington's defensive front and particularly.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: how well washing can defend the run in terms of their discipline and in terms of, you know, hitting the, in the gaps and closing things out and when you got like a DB like Jordan McLaughlin in there, providing an extra body, it's going to make a difference.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, 100%, next one, over under 8.5, Washington points in the middle of eight.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_09]: At least I took the under, you took the over, congratulations at Westo.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_09]: It was 14, we talked about what the definition of this would be, like, would be go literal of the last four minutes in the first four minutes of the second and third quarters.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_09]: or what, and I said, we go last for a minute of the second quarter and the first drive of the second half.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_09]: Well, Washington didn't defer, they took the opening kick.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_09]: And they still book ended the half, even when I see does get the book start the second half, doesn't go in there in their favor, Washington on those two drives to book in the half, eight plays, 80 yards, two plays, 60 yards, 14 points.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_09]: So it was the over on eight and a half Washington points in the middle late.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: the the funniest thing is is really what ended up happening with this over under because Lincoln Riley didn't win the toss and usually that still mean the usually that means that USC is gonna take the ball first because most teams want the ball to start the second half and instead Washington did
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: What I think was a brainless move to try and get their offense on the field first, even though their offense has been pretty crappy to start with.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: And was basically like, no, we don't need the ball coming out of the second half.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: And so USC got this advantage that every other team has gotten against USC, and that they all seem to take advantage of which is bookending the half.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then you look at what actually happened.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: And USC had the possibility of bookending the half and just completely whipped.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: The drive before the end of the second quarter was five plays 18 yards.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing came of it.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then USC's first drive coming out of the half was three plays negative 12 yards.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_09]: So like there's two plays with penalties.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: They they anti booked the half.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, the there's the the penalty on what it was an alony, you know, I believe, which ended the drive right before the half essentially and then the K and X and Wyatt penalty, both of those were retaliations.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_09]: Which, again, I understand how that happens, but like you have to know that you can't be the retaliator there.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's like, it's like an adage, it's like a thing like this is not like, oh, for the first time in the history of college football, the player who retaliates is the one who gets the flag, like the player who retaliates is the one who gets the flag is a thing that is said basically every week.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so let him punch you in the face.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and it is it is very frustrating the I think was the Alani no one because to me that was Roughly in the past or by the definition that they currently use he was driven into the ground They certainly could have thrown that flag
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: But even whether they do or not, a Lonnie Noah pushing that guy off off the top of, of Jay and my other is always going to get a flag.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_02]: There is no circumstance in which that's not going to get a flag.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: And same thing with with KDW, it's just like this happened.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: This is what happens.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be able to control your emotions.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be able to.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: use your better judgment even in the face of a frustrating situation.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: And when you don't, when you let the other team get the better, get the better review, then you're going to be the one on the wrong end of it.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody on Twitter, I can't remember which was Rich has seen or somebody else was talking about how like Washington was doing a really good job of
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: agitating and doing things that we're trying to get USC to retaliate and that's what opposing teams will do to teams that they can get that reaction out of you have to be going up to not give them what they're trying to get.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, 100%, last one, over under two and a half.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_09]: Terrell Anderson catches.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_09]: We both went over and we're both dinguses.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_09]: It was under.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_09]: He did not have a single catch.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_09]: Neither did Caden Dixon Wyatt, who we were just talking about.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_09]: But Terrell Anderson didn't have a catch.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_09]: He did have a muff punts, but no catch.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they just don't seem interested in having him.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: play wide receiver.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand it.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_09]: I would love an honest answer.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_09]: Like is it strictly?
- 33:59[SPEAKER_09]: It's got to be just coaches decision based on you prefer the other players, which like if that's in the case, that's the case.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_09]: Like I'm that's fine.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_09]: It's just
- 34:11[SPEAKER_09]: not what I expected, especially when there's been injuries in the receiver room.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_09]: You don't have print mostly.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_09]: You don't have quarry Sims.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_09]: Like, to no kinds, we know had been struggling up until this past Saturday.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_09]: Like, well, it makes a lot of sense to me, the, the, the, the nobody that
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: What I don't understand is that he had 24 snaps, 15 pass snaps against Oregon.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not like USC gained back any pass catchers this week.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: They lost Mark Bowman, so how does Tural Anderson end up with eight total snaps, five pass snaps in this game when they trust him enough to go out as a punt returner and they trust him enough to put him back out as a punt returner after he muffs that kick.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't really understand it, but
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: Who knows?
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: We're not in that room and we don't.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: We are not privy to the personnel decisions that are being made.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_09]: I will tell you.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_09]: I'm glad you're currently getting evicted from under the table.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: He keeps going back and forth between under Michael's desk and under my desk and he lays down and then he gets up.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's just so restless looking for something to chew on little inside baseball.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_09]: We are we're going through renovations at our place and the windows have been replaced.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_09]: So today.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_09]: we had to like rearrange the studio.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_09]: It was it was crazy and I think that he is not taking it well.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 35:56[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_09]: Anyways, you went 3 and 3 in over under.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_09]: I went 2 and 4.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_09]: Not a good week for me.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_09]: You eaked out a victory there at 3 and 3.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_09]: Top Rob Bots for the week.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_09]: At least it was pure carnage, pure carnage for the Rob Bots.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_09]: Nobody went a perfect 6 and
- 36:20[SPEAKER_09]: There were people who got four of six, Stephen Chaud, Aeron from Madison, Lorraine of Troy, Ryan and Arizona.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_09]: It was just pure carnage.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_09]: It was like dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens of twos and ones and zeros.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_09]: Like it was crazy.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: That makes me feel better about my three.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: It makes me feel better about my two.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_09]: Uh, that brought about for the season though.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_09]: Here is the top 10.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_09]: First place Stephen Chod is got a three point lead halfway through the season.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know we've ever seen the three point lead halfway through the season.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_09]: Stephen Chod at 26 points.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_09]: Aeron from Madison behind 23, third place we have a tie between David Orange County and John clown at 22, fifth place a tie between DJ and Trevor Am at 21.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_09]: Cherry Trevor V, Trevor Am is in seventh place at 20, Britain Irvine and Pickle tied at 19, tenth place we have a four-way tie between G-pad LA Fred, our buddy Steven the Bay Area and Scotty C all at 18.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_09]: 18 and 18 because there's been 36 overunders so far.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_09]: So, it's been carnage, my friend.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: Carnage.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: It really has.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: And it makes, it makes Steven Chad and, and Aeron and, and all that crew.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: Even more impressive to have been making it through this carnage.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_09]: Um, Vegas spread was SC by nine and a half FBI projection SC 34.6 to 25.2.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_09]: We know the SC wins 25.21.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_09]: So they don't get those projections on the surface there either.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_09]: Your score prediction was 33.24.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_09]: Trojans over the Huskies.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_09]: Mine was 34.28.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_09]: I think we, we were both thinking
- 38:20[SPEAKER_09]: somewhat close-ish games, but it was definitely closer than we had.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_09]: I had a one-position game, and it was, but that wasn't the one-position game I was envisioning.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: When USC kicked the, or entering the fourth quarter, I think.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: We were, I was looking at it, and I think I turned to at one point and said, like, hey, we're, we're, we're very set up for one of us to get very close to our, to our predictions.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then both teams just decided not to score anymore.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: So that was that.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I see what's, I, I didn't look this up.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_09]: We need to ask our friend Richard, who is a
- 39:02[SPEAKER_09]: Was that a U.S.E.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_09]: score?
- 39:04[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, you had to it, right?
- 39:06[SPEAKER_09]: 25, 21.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_09]: I've got to be.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it was a weird score.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is a weird score.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get to the mail bag, shall we?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_09]: You've got mail.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_09]: We got a bunch of voice mails.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_09]: Not exactly enough to do a montage, but I could have done a montage.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_09]: There were a couple calls that were just like fire link and Riley.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_09]: And that's all it said.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_09]: We're not playing them because we don't have a montage, but if we had a montage, they would be in there.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_09]: But here are the calls that we've got, we can listen to it, start with LA in front.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we're in Australia, Delhi, Fred Colleen.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: Well, what the heck did we all watch on Saturday night?
- 39:49[SPEAKER_03]: Once again, a struggling Lincoln Rally USC team playing down to the level of the competition and a pretty bad Washington team.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_03]: That was a win, but in reality, kind of felt like a law.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: I want to talk about the defense, but I would be remiss if I didn't vent for a second on Jade Myaba.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_03]: He has regressed big time this year.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, he looks like he's running a quick sand.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: He misses wide open receivers.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: His arm has not only lost all of its fastball, but now he throws wounded ducks up his back foot for horrible interceptions.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'd get three
- 40:30[SPEAKER_03]: he is not an NFL-level quarterback.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: Do you have to be defensive broken?
- 40:37[SPEAKER_03]: Gary Patterson can't figure out whether he needs to be on the sidelines, up in the booth.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_03]: Hell, next which might be in the stand somewhere.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_03]: The second area is trash.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: On third and fourth is short.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_03]: They play off ball, leaving a five to ten yard cushion that any comparable quarterback have an easy pitch and catch for a first down throw.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_03]: They're taking a look at you in the back field, while guys run deep right past them.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I'll top it up, that you have absolutely zero effort on guys running down the sidelines.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: Instead of tackling, and we're bringing it out of bounds, because you have a half-aft version of two-head touch while the watching and tighter keeps rumbling into the end zone.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_03]: And because they get paid now, I have no qualms about calling them out.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: The defense didn't make you couple plays that got some TV pressure, that got some staff for the first time all year, but was that really the U.S.E.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: defense stepping up?
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was because they were facing a washing machine, that would struggle against modern day or stage young balkgo.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_03]: Lastly, the biggest win on Saturday night was not the 25-21 score of a Washington.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: It was not seeing those super-dass juice boxes being held up on the sideline.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: And that is something we can all celebrate.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_03]: Ever did week, beat the lions, fight on everybody.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_09]: Next to the call, LA Fred is always, uh, I think LA Fred wanted to just do the rent line himself.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_02]: LA Fred was fired up.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think most of the reactions I've seen to this game have, have a sort of like, resignation to them.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I was a little bit surprised.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing I disagree with with Fred is I miss the juice boxes.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think USC could have used some juice on the sideline personally.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: They could have used some juice with those juice boxes.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_09]: supply the juice?
- 42:54[SPEAKER_09]: That's a question, who knows?
- 42:57[SPEAKER_09]: I'm disappointed because we joked about how funny it would be to start like a car cast right after a game drinking out of juice boxes.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_09]: Like that bit sounded so funny and we kept forgetting to buy juice boxes every time we'd go to the store.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_09]: Well, if the juice boxes are gone, we can't do the bidding anymore.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_09]: Now get through the bit.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get a day of the noise counting.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_07]: Wait, let's write a radio without the state for orange counting.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_07]: Another game.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_07]: Now just pull your hair out, fresh trading, shake your fist, yell at the TV.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_07]: Your wife looks at you and goes, what's wrong with you?
- 43:36[SPEAKER_07]: Why do you have this?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_07]: A version.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_07]: Kind of game.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_07]: I just offered take it forward, take it, it's free, ran, clean, free, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it, take it,
- 44:07[SPEAKER_07]: I hate everything about this team.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_07]: I think I sent out that text message about 15 times during this game because just one thing happened at the same after another thing.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_07]: It is what it is.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_07]: Fight out.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_09]: Thanks to the calls always, David Orange County, what do you think about passing up on tickets at the game?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: See, that's much more of the vibes that I've been getting from you with C-Fans.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, empathy.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, empathy.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't blame, I don't blame Dave in the slightest, not the least of which because it was goddamn miserable.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: on Saturday.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: I probably would simply not have gone if we had if I wasn't working and had tickets.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_02]: And this is like the the attendance question that people have is, you know, why can't you see get people to come to games?
- 45:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it's because of this, it's not, it's not just the product
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's no hope of the product being good.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: There's no, well, I can't miss this because something extraordinary might happen.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: USC has lost that within the fan base and a lot of people are making that choice.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, you know, one thing that we've, I don't think we've talked enough in the past about is the idea that there are thousands and thousands of USC fans who are opting not to go to games, who are still watching games, who are still emotionally invested, who are still partaking in the fan in the fandom.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_02]: are not going to go out of their way to spend the extra money, spend the extra time and do all of those things in order to go sit and watch a product that is just demoralizing in so many ways.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this is the problem that USC faces and one that USC faced with the Clay Hellnara and when we talked about a lot in the end of the Hellsynara and it just so much
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: these were the conversations we were having in the death nail of the of the Clay Hilton era the I hate this team I remember I think I said that on a podcast one one time so I hate this team I'm so over it you know and that is you know we're gonna continue having the Lincoln Riley conversation but like once you've reached that point with loyal fans I mean we have known Dave for years now we have hung out
- 46:46[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a fair weather fan.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a bandwagon fan who was never invested or anything like that.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like this is a died in the wool true USC fan and they're feeling this way.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a USC problem.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a Dave problem.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a, you know, anybody else out there who isn't going to games right now.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like you have to recognize what is going on with your fan base and whether or not there is buy-in.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: if you accept a low level of buy-in, then you will get a low level of buy-in.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I'm of two minds.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_09]: I've been very vocal that I wish that S.E.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_09]: fans that like the the it means more in the S.E.C.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_09]: country.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_09]: I wish that it meant more here, right?
- 47:37[SPEAKER_09]: Like I wish that
- 47:39[SPEAKER_09]: SD fans showed up like Nebraska fans and all of that's like where they were there every game and all of that stuff and in full voice and the whole bit Because it's a big city and there's a lot of people who live it within two hours away I've made that point a thousand times over and over again at the same time.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_09]: I yeah, I thoroughly I thoroughly get it like I
- 48:04[SPEAKER_09]: agree that like if you are frustrated with the products and with the administration and with the the development of the products and the trajectory of the product and all of those things.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_09]: speaking with your wallet does do something.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_09]: So like I get that part, absolutely.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_09]: I think I think it's both those things.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_09]: But yeah, I agree with you.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_09]: Like Dave is not the, he's not the bandwagon guy that's gonna like not go to a game because I'll find something better to do.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_09]: No, it's gonna be for a reason.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_09]: And he's got reasons.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_09]: Let's go to a call from Dan and Bailey Village.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I finished listening to the car cast and I was, uh, come to thinking about, you know, the program in general and, uh, so I took Riley and you know what I think, everybody put on your tin foil hats, everybody loves a conspiracy when I think is that because Ohio state and Indiana arguably, or again, at this point,
- 49:10[SPEAKER_04]: are so untouchable.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_04]: I think Lincoln Riley is actually an evil genius and what he's telling the team is to keep it close.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_04]: looking confident so that it raises the level of these really crappy teams to make them look good and so that when we beat them Allah records and Washington it looks like we're even better right and that there are other teams that are not so bad and that they're actually good when we beat them
- 49:47[SPEAKER_04]: So that Lincoln rider looks like an even better coach.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_04]: So all these like this passes and bad defense.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_04]: It's all part of this grand scheme and that Lincoln rider is what is all and that we're the suckers.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to the playoffs, baby.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_04]: Love you guys.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_04]: Why y'all, don't talk about it.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_04]: Why y'all, you kidding me?
- 50:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'll have whatever Dan is having.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_02]: He's all in, baby.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's all in.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing the random just got me thinking about, like, making Rutgers look good.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: And then I like to...
- 50:26[SPEAKER_09]: Well, they just got jiggle back because I was by Indiana, yeah, Rutgers scored 35 points against USC and that is scored 36 points collectively against anybody else.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I, I, I, yeah, I don't know.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_09]: All right, let's go to voicemail.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_09]: We got from Chris.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_08]: Michael, Alicia, this Chris from those
- 50:56[SPEAKER_08]: I can't believe that L.R.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_08]: Sillicoge, I'm Justin Bears.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_08]: It is a piss for effort.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_08]: They made this team look powerhouse.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_08]: It's going to be a frustrating season.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_08]: I wouldn't be surprised if they lose the rest of the games even to Maryland.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_09]: Thanks to the call Chris.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, this goes back to what you're saying.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_09]: It was like the pessimism, the apathy, it's there.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_09]: Absolutely there.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_09]: So,
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: Not that Chris was apathetic, but you know, no, no, no, but like the sad thing about this is like Chris is Chris is not wrong and it's it's certainly, and I think it's certainly we don't need to be doing glue and we don't need to like act like that USC couldn't possibly get a few wins here because USC probably is I mean, what USC is a better roster than Penn State or Wisconsin, however
- 51:53[SPEAKER_02]: four of you three of U.S.E's next four games are on the road and against teams that while, you know, Indiana's elite, but like Penn State and Wisconsin are exactly the kind of sort of middling big 10 teams that U.S.E.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: likes to lose on the road too.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then the home
- 52:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to, I do not want to discuss the idea of Maryland.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: My, my, my brain is still simmering in fury over losing to, to Maryland a couple years ago, on the road.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so I can't even like think about this.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_02]: No, zero chance they don't have a head coach by the, yes, but the next four games.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: There is.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: a believable universe where USC does not win a single one of those.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, like I, when we hear things like, yeah, SC will be lucky to get seven wins or whatever.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_09]: It sounds insane until you go game by game.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_09]: And then you go game by game and you're like, well, yeah, there's one game on the schedule left.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_09]: It's, it's Maryland, the schedule is brutal, the entire rest of the way.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_09]: And you know, if SC is a team that is ranked in the top 20 and they're truly on the friends of a playoff birth and all that kind of stuff, then they should be able to go into Wisconsin and Penn State and
- 53:42[SPEAKER_09]: When those games as he went to Nebraska last year and one of the game against a really good defense that Nebraska had They they should be able to Beats teams that I think that as it stands right now that I think in a lot of ways would be ranked behind SC Right like either in the the human poles or the metrics like the analytics all that stuff
- 54:09[SPEAKER_09]: So, yeah, so like, SE should be able to go in and play those, but like, are you betting on it?
- 54:14[SPEAKER_09]: I don't think so.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_09]: Like, like, not, not full stop.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_09]: Like, I think that gun to hat, I think a lot of people would take would not maybe not take, but like, I think assume that SE is going to split the two road games, the Penn State and Wisconsin.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: My concern here.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_02]: My major concern here is that the Vegas line for Penn State open with USC as a 1.5 point favorite.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_02]: And that's quickly moved to a Penn State 1.5 point favorite.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_02]: Even the odds makers think that this match up is a type one.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, Penn State has their problems, but on paper, this is not a matchup that USC can.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_02]: look at as like yeah we definitely will take our business here.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: This is much closer to like 2024 Minnesota or Illinois then it is or do or Rutgers and we saw what those games look like.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_09]: So I think the the hope for us in these next two games.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_09]: Is that if the games were at home, which they are not, but if they were at home, I think that we would think of them a lot like the Washington game, yeah, in the sense of like this is a game that you probably win 80% of the time based on the matchup based on the trajectory of teams, but whatever, however you want to look at it, right.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_09]: The issue though is.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_09]: They're not at home.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_09]: They're on the road.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_09]: They're in two very difficult places to play.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_09]: two places that are a long ways away.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_09]: Two places that will not have an empty seat in the house.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_02]: Two, well, I don't know, because Penn State said, that's the ticket prices for that game have plummeted, but it's still a wide out, and it will be, it will be full.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, these are not given.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: And the problem I have is that we went into the season knowing that this was a tough schedule.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: But that tough schedule was tough because of the high level games that USC was going to have to get through.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_02]: And you have now reached your halfway through the season.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: And now, it's not just the high level games that are giving you worries.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's every single game that's given yours bar one.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, the thing about last year is that SC won the truck games.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_09]: They lost to the teams that were ranked on the road, and they won every other game.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_09]: Take for the Valero Alamo ball, of course.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_09]: But, and so, if they did that again,
- 57:18[SPEAKER_09]: Then, yeah, beating Penn State and Wisconsin would go, could go a long way into at least instilling the thought that like this team isn't gonna collapse and be six and six or seven and five or whatever.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_09]: But.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_09]: you got to prove it like they they went nine and three last year by being that track team will prove that you're at least the chalk team again and then when you get the Ohio State game and when you get the Indiana game and then when you get the rivalry game at the end of the season against you say I prove that you're still able to compete and you know well I not go over I think a lot of people are looking at this game and
- 58:01[SPEAKER_02]: sort of leaning on the idea that well USC proved they can win ugly.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: That is important to be able to prove that you can win ugly.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the next two games are all about win by any means necessary.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: If you can win ugly, you have to win ugly.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like you can't fall back on the well USC you know, figure out how to win even when they were making mistakes against Washington.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_02]: Those mistakes, you will not survive both of the next games if you if you keep making those mistakes.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_09]: Uh, yeah, win ugly, get fight through them and then put all your marbles against the other thing.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_09]: And that I think that's the upshot.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_09]: That's the upshot for for where you want to be.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_09]: Let's go to Zach.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_05]: This is Zach from Revlin's, this is the first time I'm calling, I don't know how to feel about this Washington, USC game, what we won in spite of how many on discipline penalties you've had.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_05]: only because Washington at the end of the day had just as many critical on discipline penalties under the consent of this team because we're so undisciplined that we go into playpen state and then with often any of those both are pointless and come back home play or has state which is probably leaning toward the loss even at home with how we're playing and then we play
- 59:24[SPEAKER_05]: Maryland, you, UCLA, and then Indiana, I mean some sort of order like that.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_05]: And we can go as high as 5 and 1 or 1 and 5 depending on how bad our penalties are.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_05]: I was one of the biggest Riley defenders and I just don't think he's that guy.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think he's a big ten-level.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_05]: Well, what point do you think you as you make some moves?
- 59:46[SPEAKER_05]: I personally think he ends up winning enough games to stay.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_05]: He probably doesn't have an inventory possibly.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_05]: But do you guys think at nine and three, eight and four, he might fight on?
- 59:55[SPEAKER_05]: And I hope that things get better and we end up being a playoff team at one point another.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_05]: If it's with Ratter without, I'm happy that we won tonight and that very young guys are playing well.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_09]: Thanks for the call, Zach.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, this is exactly what we're talking about.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_09]: Like, you look at the rest of the schedule and it literally is all over the place.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_09]: There's a world in which SE does finish nine and three.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_09]: And there's a world in which they finish six and six.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_09]: Like, all of those things are possible.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_09]: And how do you find the one that is more appealing to you like you got to be able to get to those things like when it comes to like when a move gets made like I I still tend to think that it's at the end of the season, but I know that you are not that person.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we're going to talk about where I'm at with all of this, and when we get to another question that we have.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that when you look at what the rest of the schedule has to give, I think all things are possible.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not all things are, U.S. is not beating in the end on the road.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_02]: Just, that just feels impossible right now.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, there is still a
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_02]: That is the best possible world.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_02]: One that I simply don't think is going to happen, but I won't rule it out because you never know.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_02]: You get you start getting on a roll, start feeling yourself.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_02]: You win two tough games and then you start feeling like you can do something in Ohio State.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_02]: you never know.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, you never know, but you could actually go do it.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_02]: But it's yeah, it's just harder to say that that actually could happen.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_02]: Then where I think we, I am certainly feeling where I am far more worried about Penn State and Wisconsin than I think I should have to be at this point.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_09]: I think realistically to me, I think the answer is somewhere in the middle, right?
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_09]: Like I think that
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_09]: I don't think ten and two is going to happen, but I also think that there's too much talent on this team for them to go six and six.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_09]: Like it's going to be in the middle somewhere.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_02]: If we're talking, if USC loses the next two games, then we are, the conversation becomes impossible to ignore, as I guess what I'll say.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get to the super chat.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_02]: uh... this is from c b b b one five one five uh... prior to you at least you do we know why Lincoln was late to the game i've never heard of coach b and late to a game before i still have not seen an explanation for this u and i were noting and maybe it's just you know he's a pasty guy but he looked very pale to me for most of the game like
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_02]: he looked he looked pretty he didn't look great you know so my thought was maybe he might just be sick but we have not heard an explanation that explains anything this is one of those things are like the longer it lingers the more you allow conspiracy theories to take foot and
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_09]: On the Oklahoma side of things, he missed time the year that he laughs in 2021.
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_09]: He missed time and then that has been sort of like the gaps have been filled in as, oh, well, he was he was out campaigning for the S.H.J., and all that kind of thing.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_09]: And so the longer that you don't have transparency about these sort of things,
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_09]: the more you allow, you know, SC fan 36 on a message board to sort of put two and two together and write the narrative itself, like whether or not that's true or not or fair or not or whatever.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_09]: Like so.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it could, it couldn't be that he, it could be that he was sick.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_09]: It very well could, it could be that he had to make a recruiting call.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_09]: It could like, there, there are a million reasons that could be a totally reasonable thing.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_09]: But also, like, when we're not going to have pitch forks out, like, I don't, I don't think that, like,
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_09]: You know, it's going to, these things blow over when people are not happy with the product on the field and everything.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_09]: Optics are, or I think if Pete Carroll did this, nobody would care, but Pete Carroll wouldn't care.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and if USC had lost this game, I think there would be a much bigger conversation about it, and USC won.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so the conversation about it is just like, yeah, yeah, last call.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_09]: We got a Trojan Dale.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_06]: Hey, what's up guys?
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_06]: This is Trojan Dale calling in.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_06]: just about had enough I know we beat the huskies but that was pretty bad though that performance defense was alright but uh and I'm happy the defense won the game for us but uh for a game where your head coach Lincoln Riley's jobs on the line and after that lost the organ you would think that the offense would show up the players would show up for their
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_06]: It didn't really do that.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_06]: And I feel like I'm watching a rerun.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, year after year, what's the difference between clay-hilton's teams and Lincoln Riley's teams?
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_06]: The only difference is clay-hilton actually beat people that were ranked.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_07]: Let's talk about who's going to coach the team?
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_06]: Urban Meyer, Chris Peterson, or I would even take the Northwestern Coach, David Braun.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_06]: What say you fight off?
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_09]: Thanks to the call, uh, Trojan Dale.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I can't, I can't wait for Urban Meyer, the, the Urban Meyer link to go away the way that the Jack Del Rio link has finally gone away.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_09]: Urban Meyer is not coming.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_09]: He's, he's, he's not coming.
- 1:06:09[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, this is not hiring him.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_09]: five years ago was just crazy to say it's been five years already.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_09]: We when Helton got fired.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_09]: We put out a tier list of potential candidates.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_09]: And Lincoln Riley wasn't even on the list because we didn't think he would be a candidate for what it's worth.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_09]: And
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_09]: If there is an opening, we will do that again, because I think it's a really good exercise to go through and get our opinions on literally everybody that we could name like 50 dudes or whatever and tearless them.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_09]: Urban Meyer will not be anywhere near the top of those tears.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_09]: Gary Patterson has been on the sideline more recently before the season the Nervyn Meyer has.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think one of the you know when when we had the clay helps also 62.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_02]: When we had the clay help in discussion one of the things we often talked about was you are seems to go after somebody who is
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_02]: desired.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like by other teams, where USC isn't the only, USC was the only team that was going to make Clay helped in their head coat coat when they made Clay on their head coat.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like USC needed to look at somebody who was actually desired that there would be competition for them and they did that with Lincoln Riley.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_02]: It was a good hire even if it hasn't worked out.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_02]: It was ambitious in all of
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_02]: do not go after somebody for their past achievements, go after somebody who projects to have future achievements.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_02]: So guys like Jimbo and Urban and these guys who weren't good once, but are no longer like that that realistically just don't retread anybody.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_02]: There should be no retread.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_02]: There should be nobody that's just because like, oh Chris Peterson, Chris Peterson, just out of the game forever now.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't want to like, these are not the names that you want to bring back.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_02]: These are not the ones that actually work out.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_02]: If you try, like try to find these guys who actually work out this way.
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_02]: the more often than not they don't work out.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_02]: And we will talk about this more when the time comes, but you had done an examination of the coaches that won national titles way back when I'd love to update that for profiling purposes, but I will still keep going back to national champion winning coordinators are the way to go.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I'm trying to think of a coach off the dome, who is had a long way off and come back.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_09]: And spend successful and the only one I can think of is Dick for me.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_09]: only when I can think of.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_09]: Gruden was terrible when when he came back and they got fired for stupid reasons.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it doesn't even Pete Carroll goes to the Raiders and isn't is an unmitigated disaster.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_02]: Because eventually these guys age out of what made them great.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, you don't want to do the angels signing
- 1:09:54[SPEAKER_09]: And it's tough, too, because like resume is important.
- 1:09:59[SPEAKER_09]: And I think resume like matters.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_09]: But the key is like, ideally, it's a good resume that still projects forward, which is why like Lincoln Riley's resume made sense, because he's a young guy.
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_09]: He had achieved playoff birds and all those things.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_09]: Like that should project forward.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_09]: Whereas going out and getting P. Caril is not the same thing.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_09]: So also maybe I should just record this and just put it on to the to the sound board and we can just have this for every single episode that someone brings it up.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_09]: No to Carson Palmer.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_09]: What are we doing?
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_09]: Please.
- 1:10:43[SPEAKER_09]: What are we doing?
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't like this isn't a TV show or something like you do not hire the high school head coach.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:11:00[SPEAKER_09]: I think that an elite high school coach could have success in college football.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_09]: But like and and the dude over at Texas tack is as an example of that right like but it's a unique case, but it also.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_09]: It's not going from Santa Margarita to SC, like, would you have been happy if SC hired role of it?
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_09]: What role of it?
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_09]: No, what was it?
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_09]: What not role of it?
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_02]: I was watching in Stan.
- 1:11:29[SPEAKER_09]: No, the modern day guy.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_02]: Rollo.
- 1:11:33[SPEAKER_02]: It was something like that.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_09]: And Carson Palmer gets the nostalgia boost, which I totally understand.
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but like how many times has that worked out?
- 1:11:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to ruin the legacy.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_02]: Spirits of person.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_09]: The only one.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_09]: It's like the only time it's ever worked out for for a team of Spirits.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_09]: They went out and got the Heisman winning guy and he won a national championship with them.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_09]: It has been an unminigated saster every other time.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he or Jackie says Coach Eric Taylor would do a better job than right there.
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_02]: I know now that is a high school coach that I would hire.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:12:16[SPEAKER_09]: And my I would love to see Carson Palmer be the head coach just not like if there was a trajectory of like oh he goes he wins like a few pack five titles at 10 a Margarita whatever it is and then and then he becomes the the quarterbacks coach at San Diego state for two years becomes the offensive coordinator is a hot shot gets picked up by
- 1:12:44[SPEAKER_09]: North Dakota state who wins an national title with them because they're suddenly good and then you go out and hire you know to me like there's some sort of like
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's a trajectory.
- 1:12:55[SPEAKER_02]: There's a path.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_02]: And that path is not even bigger.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_09]: But not in 2026.
- 1:13:00[SPEAKER_09]: Not in 2026.
- 1:13:02[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_09]: Pure cheeky.
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_09]: I'll take Carson now over prime time.
- 1:13:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, that's another name that people are throwing out.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, what are we?
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_02]: I just be serious.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think I would have to find a ledge.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I can tell you right now, this podcast would see through exist.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way that you and I would continue with Coach Prime.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_09]: This name is Dion Sanders.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_09]: By the way, that's his name.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_09]: Dion Sanders.
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_09]: Let's go to, we had a message from Randy.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_09]: I think you got a message from Randy on the Twitter's Joe clats take on USC echoes my fears.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_09]: I know you're out on Lincoln Riley and I completely understand, but I worry that moving on right now might make things worse rather than better.
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe you can talk a little bit about clats take on Monday's show.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_09]: Thanks guys, fight on and me sent you a link to the video.
- 1:13:59[SPEAKER_09]: Um, I heard you're listening to this a little bit.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_09]: So I think I have a little bit of a thought, but you take it away.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so for those who haven't heard, this was on, I think, big noon kickoff.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_02]: And basically what Joel Clatt said is that the buyout for Riley is not just 70 million.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be more like 120 or so because you have to buy out Riley and you have to buy out the staff and then you have to buy out the new coach that you bring in to bring them in and then you got to pay their staff and just all of that kind of stuff.
- 1:14:32[SPEAKER_02]: He also compared USC to Penn State as a program that was like on the brink of contending couldn't quite get there that felt that they needed to change and then pointed to them getting jiggle bagged by Northwestern this week for their second straight loss.
- 1:14:48[SPEAKER_02]: He said that coaches around the country are hoping that U.S.ifiers, Lincoln, Riley, they can swoop in and approach the freshman class, essentially.
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's my paraphrasing of everything that he said.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_02]: And I think what Randy is pointing to is the sort of roots of his anxiety.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_02]: I have a, I actually wrote a rebuttal, but I'll try to like, you know, not not be too just reading it out, but I've been saying that the buyout is a thing for a while.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's why I remain skeptical that USC will make the move this year.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's an extremely expensive move.
- 1:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: I cannot stress that enough.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: However, the idea that USC should hang on to Riley in order to keep the freshman is extremely shortsighted.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, USC could lose some players and end up being worse in 2027.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_02]: But the alternative is keeping most of them players and accomplishing nothing with them and being stagnant for one, two, or three more years and delaying your next rebuild.
- 1:15:49[SPEAKER_02]: If you know that your head coach is not the guy, you should not continue with them, regardless of what players or things that you're trying to maintain because your coach is not the guy.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_02]: So what happens when you keep him with those players, you waste those players.
- 1:16:05[SPEAKER_02]: I call you back to Clay Hilton.
- 1:16:09[SPEAKER_02]: USC's class of 2017 was the number four class in the country.
- 1:16:13[SPEAKER_02]: There were eight top 100 players, future NFL players, like Austin Jackson, Isaiah, Paul, Mow, and that class.
- 1:16:18[SPEAKER_02]: They won Jack Shit at USC.
- 1:16:21[SPEAKER_02]: USC's to that in 18 class, nine top, top 100 players, including future NFL players, all in Rossing Brown, Talonola Funga.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_02]: They won Jack Shit at USC.
- 1:16:33[SPEAKER_02]: By 2018, we knew more or less what Clay Hilton was and what he wasn't and yet U.S.
- 1:16:38[SPEAKER_02]: He kept him around going on to waste players like Elijah Vera Tucker, Austin Jackson, Shuma, Doga, Jay Tofelli, Marlin Toe, Palo Toe, Drake London, Tyler Vons, Michael Pittman, Marvel Tell, Cam Smith, Drake Jackson, and on and on and on.
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_02]: Those are just the guys I'm talking about that were drafted and in the NFL.
- 1:16:56[SPEAKER_02]: There were a lot of undrafted guys too who had much brighter futures ahead of them than that U.S.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_02]: He just wasted.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_02]: Luke Wafel and Trent Mosley and Cadendix and Wyatt in this freshman class are incredible and I want to see them stay Trojans.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_02]: Moving on from Lincoln Riley does risk losing them, but keeping him risks wasting them like all of the other players that USC has wasted.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_02]: So to me, the calculus, it's not even.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_02]: If the cost of losing Lyndon Riley is losing someone like Lou Fuacle, that sucks.
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_02]: But USC will still be better off without Lou Fuacle if it means bringing in a new head coach who is able to actually put his stamp on the program and maybe lead USC to somewhere beyond what Lincoln Riley is currently capable.
- 1:17:50[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, USC might get that higher wrong.
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_02]: But you know what happens when you get a higher wrong, you move on, you move on to the next guy.
- 1:18:01[SPEAKER_02]: The worst thing you can do if you've messed up a higher or made the wrong higher is to hang on for longer and longer.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_02]: There's a difference between jumping the gun and getting rid of somebody in your one or your two and not giving them a chance to prove who they are.
- 1:18:21[SPEAKER_02]: But by year three, if you look at the annals of coaches out there, by year three, you know who a coach is.
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_02]: And even the ones that haven't gotten over the hump have gotten pretty damn close, far, far closer that one Lincoln Riley has done at any point at USC outside of that first year with the Heisman trophy winner.
- 1:18:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, I just, it's not sticking for me and also this kind of thinking is assuming that you see will lose those guys in the first place.
- 1:18:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's assuming that Chad Bowden will let those guys walk that NIL can't keep them in place, that a new hire can't keep them in place.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_09]: As it could lose those guys now, like no matter what, like that's just, it's how cold football is, unfortunately.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_09]: Like, as soon as everybody's under one of your data, essentially, right, it sucks, but like, that is the case.
- 1:19:28[SPEAKER_09]: And so, like, I agree with you.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_09]: I like, I think that on the one hand, I don't think you,
- 1:19:38[SPEAKER_09]: make a move for the sake of an 18-year-old kid who could go anywhere no matter what.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_09]: And then the flip side is like, we live in a world now with GMs.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_09]: Like, yes, Penn State lost their head coach in Franklin, they fired him and he took a million players with him.
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know that it's going to be the same given how SC structure is.
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_09]: It might be, yeah, they absolutely could lose dudes.
- 1:20:10[SPEAKER_09]: But like, if you make the right hire, you're going to get dudes yourself too.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_09]: Like, you make that move to go win in 2030, not win in 2027.
- 1:20:22[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:20:24[SPEAKER_02]: If we have to sacrifice 2027, so be it.
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_09]: Um, all right, let's go to a email from Tony.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_09]: Michael, Alicia, this is Tony from the nor a PA.
- 1:20:37[SPEAKER_09]: I was hoping, Alicia was going to be wrong, but no, it's happening again.
- 1:20:40[SPEAKER_09]: We played bad teams and we barely win, we play good teams and we lose, been doing this for several years and I'm just, it's just tiring as a fan.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_09]: The game ended itself.
- 1:20:48[SPEAKER_09]: I'm not going to delve into it.
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_09]: There are positives and negatives on both sides of the ball.
- 1:20:52[SPEAKER_09]: We all watched it.
- 1:20:53[SPEAKER_09]: I'm pumped when the game starts, but at the end of the game, I find myself watching what's going on with the blank expression on my face, you know, cheering, no feeling of tension, just to look that I've seen this before from this team.
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_09]: I do have a question for both of you.
- 1:21:05[SPEAKER_09]: Do you think Jaden is hurt?
- 1:21:07[SPEAKER_09]: Just hasn't looked like himself.
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_09]: He got crushed on his shoulder, again, late in the game.
- 1:21:10[SPEAKER_09]: I'm just wondering, fight on, sent for my iPhone.
- 1:21:13[SPEAKER_09]: Tony, we appreciate you, Tony, for all the emails.
- 1:21:16[SPEAKER_09]: This is something we've been talking about for weeks now.
- 1:21:19[SPEAKER_09]: About...
- 1:21:19[SPEAKER_09]: Jade Maab.
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_09]: I was like, to go back to Ellie Fred's call, by the way, about how Jade and his request, I will push back on that, because we have seen a lot of really good things from my oven so far this season that have been better than he's ever been.
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_09]: but he's been inconsistent and he's been in like the he was really good in the first two games took a step back against Louisiana and Rutgers.
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_09]: I thought he was pretty good against Oregon.
- 1:21:51[SPEAKER_09]: He wasn't the reason I see a loss in that game.
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_09]: And then he took another step back this week.
- 1:21:57[SPEAKER_09]: And so like I don't think that there's a regression as much as an lack of consistency and it could be an injury thing.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_09]: It really could be.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_09]: But like I don't know that we're ever going to get clarity on that until there's a 30 for 30 about the season 10 years from now.
- 1:22:13[SPEAKER_09]: And then you find out like yeah, he was actually he was playing without three bones in there or something.
- 1:22:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think also everybody's playing with a little bit of injury at this point in the season.
- 1:22:36[SPEAKER_02]: But also sometimes guys just miss throws and sometimes guys just have a bad outing.
- 1:22:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I, I'm my feeling on my other is basically that even when he's not having his best game like he has never been top five of USC's issues for me.
- 1:23:02[SPEAKER_09]: I think that The SRS distribution was very cool.
- 1:23:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:23:07[SPEAKER_09]: Was the thing?
- 1:23:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 1:23:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_02]: But you'll see one that came so.
- 1:23:10[SPEAKER_02]: Because of my oven.
- 1:23:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, because of my oven part.
- 1:23:13[SPEAKER_02]: But no, I think more about what I'm saying is just that like.
- 1:23:18[SPEAKER_02]: If I felt like my ava was losing USC games, then I would change my tune on this.
- 1:23:25[SPEAKER_02]: And that could also, you know, we've seen him play significantly worse on the road, in general, over the past three years, and USC's about to play two really dangerous road games that could...
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_02]: could result in a coaching change, the call like these two games could have massive impacts on the future of this program.
- 1:23:46[SPEAKER_02]: And it's possible that he could be a catalyst in whether or not that goes one way or the other.
- 1:23:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Will be a catalyst in whether or not that goes one way or the other.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_02]: But thus far this season in the games that USC has played,
- 1:24:07[SPEAKER_02]: doing anything more than just being a college quarterback.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_02]: If that makes sense, like I think unfortunately it has become clear that he's not, we already knew he wasn't Caleb Williams, but like I thought there was a possibility of him taking that big step for, we're not even a big step forward, just like we talked in the offseason about the refinement that Lincoln Riley quarterback's send to go through and it feels like instead of
- 1:24:37[SPEAKER_02]: refinement level up to the degree where he's like, that difference maker at quarterback to me, it's if anything, it's stagnation.
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_02]: So there could be an injury involvement there, but more than anything, I think it's just, he's hit his ceiling and he is who he is.
- 1:24:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:25:00[SPEAKER_09]: He's not the reason while you're not winning more games,
- 1:25:08[SPEAKER_09]: Sam Darnolds or a Caleb Williams grab you by the scrap of the neck and when you a game that you shouldn't yes yes and would it be big for S.C. to get a performance like that from my amma yes but also like those guys are the unicorns for a reason
- 1:25:29[SPEAKER_02]: My Ava is in a above average college quarterback, but U.S. he needs him to be.
- 1:25:34[SPEAKER_02]: So is Cody Kessler?
- 1:25:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think Cody Kessler would be having the same, we also had the, is Cody Kessler and your conversation.
- 1:25:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:25:42[SPEAKER_02]: And we also had the iskyd and syllabus and your conversation.
- 1:25:45[SPEAKER_09]: We know that that was the case.
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but maybe more of this is just we're just seeing a quarterback reach their level and their and their their the inconsistencies stay where they're at and you just get to a point where you're you're not that guy and.
- 1:26:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a crime to not be that guy.
- 1:26:05[SPEAKER_02]: Most teams would win most of the contending college football playoff contenders with Jade Mayaba would still be college football playoff contenders.
- 1:26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Probably be in a better spot a lot for a lot of them.
- 1:26:18[SPEAKER_09]: The number one offense according to FBI, like this offense isn't lacking.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_09]: They had one game that they've struggled to have any sort of
- 1:26:32[SPEAKER_09]: Um, yeah, I, I, Alabama one with quarterbacks that I can't even remember their name.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yes, that's Jake's poker point.
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_09]: Is that right?
- 1:26:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:26:41[SPEAKER_02]: Is it Jake?
- 1:26:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was Jake.
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, like, what, what do you think he's doing now?
- 1:26:47[SPEAKER_09]: He's selling like real estate in like, blocks a year, something?
- 1:26:51[SPEAKER_09]: let's see probably something something like that.
- 1:26:55[SPEAKER_09]: So I guess what I'm saying is like heat.
- 1:26:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:26:58[SPEAKER_02]: After football, Coker and his wife moved to back to mobile and he got a job in commercial insurance.
- 1:27:04[SPEAKER_02]: They had a baby in early 2020.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_09]: So that's what people look at in my ass.
- 1:27:08[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 1:27:09[SPEAKER_09]: Mobile not too far away.
- 1:27:10[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:27:14[SPEAKER_09]: All right, let's go to an email we got from Steve.
- 1:27:17[SPEAKER_09]: Hi, Alicia and Michael.
- 1:27:18[SPEAKER_09]: I love your podcast and comments on USC football.
- 1:27:20[SPEAKER_09]: Great, let analysts, analysis.
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_09]: However, I'm afraid you missed the narrative on the Desmond Stevens incident.
- 1:27:27[SPEAKER_09]: There is no moving on, as you have said, on all your podcasts.
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_09]: This is a stopping point that epitomize the state of USC football.
- 1:27:35[SPEAKER_09]: Steven's action both on the field and on the sidelines were disgraceful.
- 1:27:40[SPEAKER_09]: I saw them at the game and on TV.
- 1:27:42[SPEAKER_09]: It was also pitiful that no coach ever gotten his face and told them to stop.
- 1:27:47[SPEAKER_09]: Then, it made a teaching moment for him.
- 1:27:50[SPEAKER_09]: Lincoln Riley is excused that he did not see what was happening as an outright lie.
- 1:27:54[SPEAKER_09]: He is a con man.
- 1:27:56[SPEAKER_09]: Stephens should not have been allowed to stay on the sidelines.
- 1:27:59[SPEAKER_09]: Uh, what is perhaps worse still is the accountability for this same full scene.
- 1:28:03[SPEAKER_09]: A one game suspension is a joke.
- 1:28:05[SPEAKER_09]: He should have been suspended for five games.
- 1:28:08[SPEAKER_09]: Riley and Patterson should have been suspended for one game as well as every player who participated in the hand slap celebrations.
- 1:28:15[SPEAKER_09]: No, there is no moving on from this Steve.
- 1:28:20[SPEAKER_09]: I, Steve, I agree with you and just a lot of the senses here, but there's also just a lot of stuff here that was, it was just never going to have like, Lincoln Riley was not going to get suspended because of the desements Steven's incident.
- 1:28:35[SPEAKER_09]: I agree.
- 1:28:35[SPEAKER_09]: I think that it is.
- 1:28:46[SPEAKER_09]: maybe tone it down a little bit here.
- 1:28:49[SPEAKER_09]: I think that's the least that you could ask for from the coaching staff.
- 1:28:56[SPEAKER_09]: I thoroughly agree.
- 1:28:57[SPEAKER_02]: It was an incredibly bad moment for our perception of USC's culture and all of that.
- 1:29:04[SPEAKER_02]: I completely agree.
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_02]: At the same time, find me a program in college football that has ever suspended a coach for something like this, or suspended a player for multiple games for something like this.
- 1:29:17[SPEAKER_02]: It just doesn't happen.
- 1:29:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's not the way reality is in college football.
- 1:29:25[SPEAKER_02]: As we talked about, Jerry Tillery literally stomped on a guy and didn't get suspended.
- 1:29:35[SPEAKER_02]: you know, just doing the wrong thing on the field and the vast majority of them don't result in a suspension at all.
- 1:29:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I give USC credit for at least taking that step.
- 1:29:48[SPEAKER_02]: But it's also I think that we also need to maybe get our heads on straight about this and bad analogy.
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_02]: This is true.
- 1:29:59[SPEAKER_02]: But I think also
- 1:30:03[SPEAKER_02]: The way I approach things is often, I try to put myself in the shoes of the people that were involved and try to understand maybe why they made the bad decisions that they made.
- 1:30:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not going to make an excuse for Desmond Stevens behavior, but I also fully believe that he was just, he was just clueless.
- 1:30:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think was the bigger issue here is that I don't think he was
- 1:30:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was so caught in his own emotions about getting pushed as he got up after the hit and sort of doing his little dance to the organ guys who were causing a fuss with him.
- 1:30:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's very possible he was just completely blind to the fact that
- 1:30:53[SPEAKER_02]: This was a more serious thing for Dante Williams than he then he realized in the moment.
- 1:30:57[SPEAKER_02]: And the dabbing up on the sidelines, yeah, Dante more, the dabbing up on the sidelines is, again, completely inappropriate.
- 1:31:05[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely should not have happened.
- 1:31:07[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone on the sidelines should have had enough sense to know not to do that.
- 1:31:10[SPEAKER_02]: But also, why were they dabbing up on the sidelines?
- 1:31:12[SPEAKER_02]: It was probably just like, hey, you guys got this kind of thing.
- 1:31:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't think that he was actually celebrating
- 1:31:21[SPEAKER_02]: Dante Moore's injury.
- 1:31:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he was wishing ill on Dante Moore any of those things not not of it not of it takes away his actions and his the consequences of what those actions should be but let's also like calm down and not turn this into something that like
- 1:31:38[SPEAKER_09]: I that that that rises to something that that is beyond what it was I think there's a little semantics there like yeah I I don't think he was like yes I knocked him out of the game like I don't think that was his thought But like that doesn't make it any better no no no not not not because he like
- 1:31:59[SPEAKER_09]: being celebrating how big of a hit what you had is still like an asshole thing today.
- 1:32:05[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 1:32:05[SPEAKER_09]: Absolutely.
- 1:32:06[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 1:32:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not arguing.
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not arguing.
- 1:32:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:32:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just...
- 1:32:10[SPEAKER_02]: I just think if we're talking about like suspend him for five games and suspend the coach and the DC and all this kind of stuff like that's what we're talking about.
- 1:32:19[SPEAKER_02]: We're rising to the level of this is a player literally like tap dancing on another player's grave.
- 1:32:26[SPEAKER_02]: I, which I don't think this, I don't think that's what was going on.
- 1:32:29[SPEAKER_09]: No, but that's what the optics were.
- 1:32:30[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 1:32:31[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that's what, that's what, yeah.
- 1:32:32[SPEAKER_09]: But if it's nothing to dispel that.
- 1:32:34[SPEAKER_02]: You were the person in charge of the, of the discipline for this moment.
- 1:32:40[SPEAKER_02]: You're taking everything into account.
- 1:32:41[SPEAKER_02]: You're understanding.
- 1:32:42[SPEAKER_09]: My, my thing here is like.
- 1:32:47[SPEAKER_09]: I don't think there's anything that is satisfactory.
- 1:32:52[SPEAKER_09]: You kick them off the team.
- 1:32:54[SPEAKER_09]: I understand that people want that in the moment.
- 1:32:57[SPEAKER_09]: That's the stern response in the moment.
- 1:33:02[SPEAKER_09]: Is that truly satisfying, I don't know that like what would be satisfying would be for him to have not done it and for the thing to have not happened and for Dante more than I have gotten hurt and like all these things and and like so I To your point is I think that SC actually suspending him for any amount of time Was
- 1:33:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, progressive move in a lot of ways because what people don't understand is that most of the time this doesn't result in a suspension this results in a we had to internal team Internal team punishments or something like that.
- 1:33:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which is what happened to Jerry Tillory by the way.
- 1:33:44[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and so I yeah, I don't know what would have been satisfying like I said
- 1:33:52[SPEAKER_09]: But I thoroughly agree that this needs to be a learning lesson, not only for him, but like, for everybody else on the team.
- 1:33:58[SPEAKER_09]: And like, I think that you use this as one of those things.
- 1:34:01[SPEAKER_09]: That's what you want to see from a coaching staff, from other players and everything.
- 1:34:04[SPEAKER_09]: So, only time will tell of that if that is a learning lesson and all those things, even if it wasn't, if you didn't play out that way in the moment, like you, like, I think so many of us wanted to see.
- 1:34:20[SPEAKER_09]: So,
- 1:34:21[SPEAKER_09]: Um, all right, uh, we pinned a couple of comments in the chat that I want to get to here before we wrap this thing up, uh, Ron Bernie says she'll we keep Gary Patterson in the coaches booth through the rest of the season.
- 1:34:35[SPEAKER_09]: I don't it obviously, I don't heard if you if you think it helps go for it, yeah, yeah, I.
- 1:34:43[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it, it, it didn't hurt.
- 1:34:46[SPEAKER_09]: Pierre Jiggie says, well, there'll be some tension between Badger and the Wisconsin game.
- 1:34:53[SPEAKER_09]: I, you know?
- 1:34:55[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 1:34:56[SPEAKER_09]: Badger, are you gonna be burning for the Badgers?
- 1:35:00[SPEAKER_09]: you might be.
- 1:35:01[SPEAKER_09]: I think he's been singing on Wisconsin and his name.
- 1:35:04[SPEAKER_02]: I actually what I will say is that if if a Badger is show if the Badger mascot is shown on screen at any point, Badger will have a
- 1:35:16[SPEAKER_02]: fit that proves that he is definitely not rooting for the back.
- 1:35:20[SPEAKER_09]: He did not like the huskies.
- 1:35:22[SPEAKER_02]: He hated the huskies.
- 1:35:24[SPEAKER_02]: He hated the huskies.
- 1:35:25[SPEAKER_09]: He also did not like cookie monster.
- 1:35:29[SPEAKER_09]: He hates cookie monster.
- 1:35:30[SPEAKER_09]: He hates jeopardy episode.
- 1:35:32[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, not a fan.
- 1:35:33[SPEAKER_09]: Not a fan.
- 1:35:36[SPEAKER_02]: So he might say he's the one true
- 1:35:45[SPEAKER_02]: I suspect he would not like travel or either to be fair.
- 1:35:49[SPEAKER_09]: I don't think you'd like anybody.
- 1:35:51[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:35:53[SPEAKER_09]: Joe in the chat had some messages about DeBore killing DeBore as a candidate, saying DeBore would never win, never be able to win a title at USC, jokes and big games in the past.
- 1:36:08[SPEAKER_09]: Also that Alabama's offense is not elite this year.
- 1:36:17[SPEAKER_09]: We're not at the point of actually discussing this seriously, but like I don't know how to work can't be like one of the top three names he immediately of anybody that you would put on a list.
- 1:36:31[SPEAKER_02]: Alabama is the number two offense in FPI by the way.
- 1:36:34[SPEAKER_09]: They're number six in F.E.I.
- 1:36:37[SPEAKER_09]: Caitlin Russell.
- 1:36:39[SPEAKER_09]: Killon Russell is like getting Heisman talk and like everything like I
- 1:36:47[SPEAKER_09]: I think that, like, so much of the criticisms about killing the board of Alabama, and at Washington, to be honest, are like nitpicky.
- 1:37:00[SPEAKER_09]: Like, go back to what we've said a million times.
- 1:37:03[SPEAKER_09]: Like, there is no coaching college football that has a perfect record.
- 1:37:09[SPEAKER_09]: Like a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, Ryan Day, half the people at Bucknuts,
- 1:37:16[SPEAKER_09]: Still want to fight if you want a national title.
- 1:37:20[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, Dan Landing has his detractors.
- 1:37:28[SPEAKER_09]: Everybody but Signetti.
- 1:37:30[SPEAKER_09]: has baggage, maybe security and Kirby smart, and that's it.
- 1:37:36[SPEAKER_09]: Has baggage.
- 1:37:40[SPEAKER_09]: And so nobody's gonna come with the perfect pristine track record, but like the thing that like the board isn't win big games, I think it's patentedly false.
- 1:37:53[SPEAKER_09]: He beat in 2023, he beat Oregon twice in that season.
- 1:37:59[SPEAKER_09]: a really good organ to you who that was there only losses on the season beat them twice in last year want to play off game to get to the you know national championship game last year the they beat up on the right season like yeah like i i i think anybody who follows up next haven is going to look pouring comparison because it
- 1:38:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I, I, and the connections with the Boran Cohen, I think are too much too ignore as a possibility.
- 1:38:38[SPEAKER_09]: I think that like, I think you have to put, if, if you had to do a head coach in shortlist, I think the Boran has to be on their very default.
- 1:38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I think would he leave L-Bever than USC?
- 1:38:49[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe not.
- 1:38:50[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe that's hopeful.
- 1:38:51[SPEAKER_09]: This is a beautiful thing you would ever, but I think you have to like at least have him say no.
- 1:38:56[SPEAKER_02]: There's there's a couple reasons why I'm not seriously considering Kayland abort, even though I am an OG, Kayland to bore lover back to Fresno, I wanted him to be the U.S.
- 1:39:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's offence of coordinator before he got for the state job, um, he, uh, so I'm big, big fan of Kayland abort, but I'm not considering this for two reasons.
- 1:39:19[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, why would he leave Alabama?
- 1:39:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like there is no reason to leave Alabama.
- 1:39:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's got, he has spent the last two, three years building stuff up at Alabama and he's going to leave that project where he's got a quarterback and he's got his team is rolling right now to go rebuild USC.
- 1:39:43[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't see it and also number two, the buyout just to get him.
- 1:39:48[SPEAKER_02]: from Alabama in addition to the buyout to buyer Riley and the staff and do all this kind of stuff like now we're talking insane levels of money like I can convince myself that they could justify firing Riley if there's an offset in the contract and they can rely on him getting a new job and then the buyout not being that big and all that kind of stuff but you're also going to end
- 1:40:18[SPEAKER_02]: The borer from Alabama, if not more, no, I just, it's just not, I'm just not even, I'm not even opening up my heart to that.
- 1:40:29[SPEAKER_09]: Money is a construct.
- 1:40:34[SPEAKER_09]: I refuse to think that money is a hindrance and all these things.
- 1:40:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's only 10 million to hire the borer away.
- 1:40:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, but if you're, if you're going to get rid of Riley, what's 10 million.
- 1:40:53[SPEAKER_09]: Do the, do the doctor thing.
- 1:40:55[SPEAKER_09]: Just pay it in.
- 1:40:56[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, the firm is sick.
- 1:40:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:40:58[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:40:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:41:00[SPEAKER_09]: All right, Randy from Redlands, if USC goes 9 and 3 or better, does that change the way you feel about, right?
- 1:41:06[SPEAKER_09]: Here's the thing, if they go 9 and 3, then one of the, one of the two things have happened, either,
- 1:41:15[SPEAKER_09]: They have not tripped up anywhere and they've won all the games that they should or can.
- 1:41:21[SPEAKER_09]: Like they've or they've beaten Ohio State or Indiana.
- 1:41:25[SPEAKER_09]: Like one of those two things has happened.
- 1:41:29[SPEAKER_09]: And I like depending on how you perform in the if you go 9 and 3 where it's a chalk 9 and 3 where you beat everybody but Oregon or Ohio State and Indiana.
- 1:41:42[SPEAKER_09]: Well, then how did you compete in those three games?
- 1:41:45[SPEAKER_09]: Did the Ohio State game go to overtime?
- 1:41:48[SPEAKER_09]: Did the Indiana game?
- 1:41:49[SPEAKER_09]: Did you lose an elite feel goal?
- 1:41:51[SPEAKER_09]: Because that is a very different than going to Bloomington and getting absolutely turtle worked.
- 1:41:59[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 1:42:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think nine and three would make me, it would have changed my perception ever so slightly in that I would give,
- 1:42:13[SPEAKER_02]: I would give Riley the the grace to see what he does from there.
- 1:42:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think if he goes nine and three, he will have earned another season for sure.
- 1:42:25[SPEAKER_02]: Will it convince me that he is the guy to take USC to the top of the mountain?
- 1:42:30[SPEAKER_02]: No, because I imagine that nine and three will be scraping through wins against Penn State Wisconsin, losing to Ohio State in Indiana, and then beating Maryland and a UCLA team that I I think would be a very nice win given the positivity of the Bob Chesney era, but also none of those wins that we're talking about in this nine and three scenario would be the kind of wins that would convince me.
- 1:42:56[SPEAKER_02]: that Riley is the guy.
- 1:42:58[SPEAKER_02]: So, if Riley goes into Bloomington and Beatsignetti, we're having a very different conversation.
- 1:43:04[SPEAKER_09]: You beat Indiana in Bloomington, but you lose at Wisconsin.
- 1:43:12[SPEAKER_09]: Is that more appealing to you than getting blown out to Indiana, but beating Wisconsin?
- 1:43:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:43:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think so too, because I think like, because the issue is the issue we're trying to be getting at winning a big end.
- 1:43:28[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:43:30[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:43:30[SPEAKER_09]: A 9 and 3 where you be Ohio State or Indiana, I think would be probably more appealing than a 9 and 3 where those were the only two losses.
- 1:43:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:43:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, barring like the loss being to UCLA after you're on top of the world.
- 1:43:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I think like a no show or something like that.
- 1:43:50[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:43:51[SPEAKER_09]: Um, all right.
- 1:43:53[SPEAKER_09]: Um, I think we're going to wrap up there.
- 1:43:54[SPEAKER_09]: We'll be back on Wednesday or sorry, I will be back on Wednesday.
- 1:44:00[SPEAKER_09]: At least in one of my favorite things, one of the most stressful time can time what what the word consuming time comes and there we go you know all these words I have the worst words.
- 1:44:17[SPEAKER_09]: I know, but I was going to say time suck, but time suck was negative, but when the most time consuming and thoughtful things that I do in life is share the air with you, especially because you are the superstar of this podcast.
- 1:44:39[SPEAKER_09]: And it is a delight to sit here and watch you do your thing.
- 1:44:43[SPEAKER_09]: And I ain't awaits you returning to your throne as the queen of if if Ryan is the king of USC potions you are the queen of USC potions is that fair?
- 1:45:05[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, obviously, like, not together here, I would hope not, but you don't, you know what I mean, right?
- 1:45:12[SPEAKER_09]: Like, yeah, is that fair?
- 1:45:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think that I, I, I, I will accept whatever that.
- 1:45:22[SPEAKER_02]: I will accept that you can
- 1:45:34[SPEAKER_09]: But I think you're the queen of U.S.E.
- 1:45:36[SPEAKER_09]: podcast, you know.
- 1:45:39[SPEAKER_09]: PRJC says our queen, Ron Marty will miscealize you.
- 1:45:43[SPEAKER_09]: Clearly uncomfortable.
- 1:45:44[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 1:45:46[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 1:45:46[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you to everyone in the chat with the more emotional is this or the servers at else arena.
- 1:45:52[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, my God.
- 1:45:53[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you for your birthday.
- 1:45:54[SPEAKER_02]: That was, that was, that was, that was, it was,
- 1:46:03[SPEAKER_02]: Happy happy happy I think my brain is just broken at the level of I think that was like one of the I don't know why either Yeah, because normally I don't care, but like it was just I was in it in a deeply deeply Vulnerable headspace I guess Yeah, but yeah, yeah, all right, final word or final words before we wrap up here.
- 1:46:29[SPEAKER_09]: I love you all and fight on
- 1:46:31[SPEAKER_09]: All right, I will be back Wednesday with a gas perhaps two guests, are they familiar names and faces perhaps we will see.
- 1:46:47[SPEAKER_09]: It'll be a surprise.
- 1:46:50[SPEAKER_09]: I'm excited for those kind of things.
- 1:46:53[SPEAKER_09]: Obviously, I would love to podcast with you, Alicia.
- 1:46:56[SPEAKER_09]: But I told you two weeks ago when this thing had sort of become a thing of like, I was in that weird stage of like, at first you're in the panic of like, oh my god, like how is the world gonna continue?
- 1:47:12[SPEAKER_09]: And then you get to the stage of like,
- 1:47:15[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, but this is exciting.
- 1:47:16[SPEAKER_09]: I can do all these.
- 1:47:17[SPEAKER_09]: So I can I can ask this person to be on it.
- 1:47:20[SPEAKER_09]: I can potentially reach out to this person.
- 1:47:23[SPEAKER_09]: That for the roof.
- 1:47:24[SPEAKER_09]: There's excitement in change.
- 1:47:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, but but that will immediately be followed by Wednesday nights.
- 1:47:32[SPEAKER_09]: Absolutely crappy in my pants.
- 1:47:33[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to do a great job.
- 1:47:36[SPEAKER_09]: the car cast by myself.
- 1:47:37[SPEAKER_09]: Oh my god.
- 1:47:38[SPEAKER_09]: You're gonna do a great job.
- 1:47:39[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 1:47:41[SPEAKER_09]: Not about it's not about me.
- 1:47:43[SPEAKER_09]: It's it's it's it's not about you as it's you're holding up before.
- 1:47:48[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 1:47:48[SPEAKER_09]: We'll be back when they until then we'll see you see you
