- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody, Brian Smith here with the IM team series and your daily influence.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: Today is Christmas Eve and you know I'd like to, if you've been following us, you know that I like to keep these holiday episodes a little bit lighter sometimes even.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty short.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: And today I really want to kind of be reflective.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: The day before Christmas, some of us work, some of us don't work.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people get the whole week off or even two weeks off for me.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's a time to really think about where we're at and take a pause, try to get caught up.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Think about the meaning of what we're doing, what I'm doing, what our team is doing, you know, what was our path like?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: think about how I present myself, what my presence is, what our presence is as an organization in our clients areas of influence.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: And then ask, you know, what unseem influences are we creating?
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they good are they bad are we bringing value?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: And these things don't get thought about enough.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: It seems to really offer a good time to do those things, and, you know, as leaders sometimes we don't really think about the influence of our presence and how showing up sometimes is really what matters people aren't always looking for us to have answers.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: that might just be looking to see us participating and working shoulder to shoulder with them.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe even struggling with them and it brings context really us closer to the people that we work with.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: And as leaders, that's important.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Hard to be led by somebody who is disconnected from us.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: I struggle with this because I travel so much and I am not connected all the time with our entire team.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't get to spend a lot of one-on-one time working with a number of our team members.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: all over the world.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: And it makes me really question, do I need to show up more?
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: And how, if I am present, and I can be shown in a shoulder with them, that it can help us to feel like a better team and experience, make them feel like they're on a more unified team.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it's all it takes is just for us to show up.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Our teams, our clients, our partners and vendors, CSBA is really important.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I don't overly concern myself with what people think about myself.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: I try to be consistent, if it's my behavior, I haven't always been that way.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: I write about that often in the IM team series.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: And as humans, we fail often.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: We fail often in the way we behave the way we show up, but I do really think about what I am saying without actually saying anything.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, these behaviors can be almost more impactful than when we do show up loud.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: So it's important that we think about who we are and how we arrive, how we work through issues, how we close those issues out and move on to the next issues.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, try to look at yourself and understand what that quiet influence can be and how it can set the stage for our teams.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: And for ourselves, for that matter, to get ourselves in a feedback loop that provides us continuous improvement which for us here is really one of our core missions is to be continuously improving within our areas of influence whatever they might end up being and then you know remembering that we don't always have to have an answer.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: It might be that we work through answers together with our team and when we engage our team whoever that might be in the process of understanding in the process of learning in the process of improving we grow together.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, hold a space that there's leadership in this stillness we can have by not having all the answers.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: By engaging with those around us, allowing them to help us bring out our best experiences.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: Let them ask questions that might help us to be better.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: That might help us to formulate those answers in a more thoughtful and positively and responsibly influential way.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: is something different to each of us individually.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it means to you embrace it, the best that you can lean into who you are as an individual because you're amazingly important.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the best time of your to elevate yourself and to put yourself in a position to be as influential in a positive and responsible way as you can in checking yourself and holding yourself to
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: whatever high standard or whatever standard you see as being high and help yourself to be your best self for your specific area of influence and when you do that you will be your best for others too.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: So like I hope that whatever you're doing today for Christmas Eve that you will reflect and enjoy that time and I hope that you all join us have a message for tomorrow on Christmas
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: On the daily influence, I hope you have a great day.
