- 0:15Speaker 1: for the Koala Tavern and all the exciting things happening
- 0:19Speaker 1: with the Rejects at the moment. And we're here with
- 0:21Speaker 1: the fantastic and illustrious Prince from heavy Man.
- 0:26Speaker 3: But he almost made me brushing that sort of stuff.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Guys, how he's doing well, fantastic.
- 0:32Speaker 3: There's been far too long since we've spoken, guys. Y, Yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 3: We've got a lot to catch up on. We're starting
- 0:42Speaker 3: with the fact that Tyler Made Rejects will be playing
- 0:45Speaker 3: at Rock Is Not Dead Festival at the Koala Tavern
- 0:48Speaker 3: in Capala Bar on February the first.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I can't remember the.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Last time I saw you guys on stage, but all
- 0:54Speaker 3: I remember is you were fucking good and I'm looking
- 0:56Speaker 3: forward to seeing it again.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Fuck yeah, all right, are you So you're you're going
- 1:01Speaker 1: to be making an appearance at the Kahala.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Tavern about a kilometer from the placemates. So if I
- 1:06Speaker 3: don't come in and be.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Fun, oh you don't have a kisses? Yeah?
- 1:10Speaker 3: Yeah, walk there but I won't.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Well, we'll have a drink on me, all right, I'll
- 1:17Speaker 1: shout us around.
- 1:19Speaker 3: That one that's awesome with Avalanche, Snake Bite, Whiskey, Black Whiskey,
- 1:25Speaker 3: Stone Rising, Gotzilla, Slider, and Whiskey on the Rock. So
- 1:28Speaker 3: there's so much whiskey there, guys that they could get pissed.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Just sank through the lineup, honestly.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know if anybody's heard Goatzilla, but they're
- 1:36Speaker 1: fucking crazy. I like like Gozilla for the people, the
- 1:40Speaker 1: people that know Gozilla, like, oh my god, dude, they
- 1:43Speaker 1: are so good live. I love playing with those guys.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, big hat, big harp. Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah. So one of those festivals, like the bands might
- 1:53Speaker 3: not all be well known to everybody, but it's a
- 1:55Speaker 3: great selection of bands from across the country, guys like
- 1:57Speaker 3: it's one of those things that people could be And
- 2:00Speaker 3: I'm about going because I don't know anyone. But if
- 2:02Speaker 3: you don't go, you're missing out because the talent there
- 2:04Speaker 3: is fucking great.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean the way I look at things like
- 2:08Speaker 1: that is, you know, before you discover the next best thing,
- 2:13Speaker 1: you know, you have no idea what's waiting around the corner,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and you can't rely on your mates to give you
- 2:17Speaker 1: good music. You can't rely on your mom and your
- 2:19Speaker 1: dad to give you good music. You've got to discover
- 2:21Speaker 1: that stuff on your own. The best music that I've found,
- 2:24Speaker 1: the best music that I'm attracted to even now moving
- 2:26Speaker 1: into the later parts of my life, there's the music
- 2:29Speaker 1: I found on my own in those moments where I
- 2:31Speaker 1: was like, that's fucking awesome, you know, So, you know,
- 2:35Speaker 1: do yourself a favor. Get out there.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah? On what based that life means? Right where?
- 2:40Speaker 1: You know?
- 2:41Speaker 4: You see the re amuse seasons, you know, playing you know,
- 2:44Speaker 4: the gigs and getting excited on stage.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I think it's you know, it's the best.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I love. We're down there for lunch and didn't checked
- 2:53Speaker 3: out the venue and up last the manager. You can
- 2:56Speaker 3: actually take your kids too if you want. The kids
- 2:58Speaker 3: can't go inside, but there's an outside area for kids.
- 3:01Speaker 3: There's a playground there, so there's no excuse to take
- 3:04Speaker 3: your kids down for the afternoon. Introduce the us some
- 3:05Speaker 3: good music.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Oh that's amazing.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Here's the deal. If you guys come out with your kids,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I'm going to make Alex go and shred a solo
- 3:13Speaker 1: in the park.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Absolutely, yes, yeah, I'll do it. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Time. We'll keep it that specific part of this interview
- 3:20Speaker 3: and we'll get it done now. Out of my rejects
- 3:25Speaker 3: went quiet sort of last year. Guys, to reach out
- 3:27Speaker 3: to your batteries a little bit. But it's good to
- 3:29Speaker 3: see you back. So what's changed with the band in
- 3:32Speaker 3: that period.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so we had a little bit of a break.
- 3:37Speaker 1: We haven't actually talked about it too much publicly, but basically,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know, when you work with a group of people,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and when you work in industry like ours, you do
- 3:47Speaker 1: tend to have burnout, and burnout does happen, and depending
- 3:51Speaker 1: on the type of person you are, like myself, I'm
- 3:53Speaker 1: a very introverted person. I tend to accelerate things a
- 3:57Speaker 1: lot worse than in my mind than they are real life.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And I guess I just took burnout way too seriously
- 4:04Speaker 1: and that kind of pushed me to go, you know,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I need a real break. But it was it was
- 4:08Speaker 1: quite literally not too long before I got that itch again,
- 4:11Speaker 1: because that feeling went away and it went The band's
- 4:13Speaker 1: not the issue, The industry is not the issue. The
- 4:15Speaker 1: show's on the issue. I'm the issue. I need to
- 4:18Speaker 1: come back we need to do this again. We need
- 4:20Speaker 1: to do this right this time. We had a meeting,
- 4:22Speaker 1: we kind of aligned our focus a little bit more
- 4:24Speaker 1: and that and then we started. We went straight to
- 4:26Speaker 1: the studio, we started working on stuff and we are
- 4:28Speaker 1: the best team, better than we've ever been before.
- 4:31Speaker 3: That's good to hears. Good to hear. And I saw
- 4:34Speaker 3: the band photo the other day and there's someone in
- 4:35Speaker 3: there I didn't recognize.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, do you remember Yeah, yeah, I think you're
- 4:42Speaker 1: looking about.
- 4:47Speaker 2: No, No, that's that's the the other the same bass
- 4:52Speaker 2: player that's he had changed.
- 4:59Speaker 1: We have bow Yeah. So Vows joined us. She plays
- 5:05Speaker 1: for a band called Chemical Prisoner And during during kind
- 5:08Speaker 1: of our downbeat period while we were sort of trying
- 5:10Speaker 1: to figure everything out, just a massive shout out to
- 5:14Speaker 1: Vao because it was actually a conversation with Vao that
- 5:16Speaker 1: made me kind of switch that thing in my mind
- 5:19Speaker 1: that went, you know, maybe I've got to start taking
- 5:21Speaker 1: this even more seriously than I had before. And you know,
- 5:25Speaker 1: her comments, like in our conversation were very much around
- 5:29Speaker 1: like coming together and being more of a family and
- 5:32Speaker 1: that no matter how long it takes between breaks, that
- 5:34Speaker 1: were always going to be connected by this thing that
- 5:36Speaker 1: we do together. And it just made me realize that
- 5:39Speaker 1: she has regardless of whether or not she's been in
- 5:41Speaker 1: the band for since the conception of the band, or
- 5:43Speaker 1: whether she joined a few years ago or even five
- 5:45Speaker 1: minutes ago, she has always been a member of this band.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And she solidified that by multiple times saving us multiple times.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So a big shout out to Vao.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Does she know all of this already or is she
- 5:56Speaker 3: going to be learning this when she watches this interview?
- 5:59Speaker 1: I hope, I hope I've extended my my thank yous
- 6:02Speaker 1: and my life.
- 6:03Speaker 2: You know, yeah, I think, yes, yes, yes, you know.
- 6:07Speaker 4: And what is interesting is that even though we were
- 6:10Speaker 4: a little bit with a valent time but walking on songs,
- 6:14Speaker 4: when we came back to the to the room to practice,
- 6:17Speaker 4: the magic was there.
- 6:18Speaker 2: It was like we didn't stop playing, you know, it quite.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Literally felt like there was no time between. Like when
- 6:25Speaker 1: we decided to take a break and then come back,
- 6:28Speaker 1: we jammed like it was just like yesterday. Alex one
- 6:31Speaker 1: hundreercent right. Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 3: What I like about the way you guys did that
- 6:34Speaker 3: is like you didn't make a big fuss about it,
- 6:36Speaker 3: Like I saw a couple of your post Ryan, and
- 6:38Speaker 3: you just told people that you're stepping back from music
- 6:40Speaker 3: for a bit, but you didn't make a fuss about it.
- 6:42Speaker 3: When you came back, you didn't create a fuss about
- 6:45Speaker 3: coming back. You just slipped back into where you were before.
- 6:47Speaker 3: And you, guys, very very good way to do it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Can I be honest with you? Just really does reflect
- 6:53Speaker 1: on Alex's sort of business mindset. Alex and I don't
- 6:58Speaker 1: agree on everything, but the one thing that I've always
- 7:01Speaker 1: loved Alex for is his like industry knowledge and is
- 7:05Speaker 1: like his intuition, and his intuition has always been just
- 7:08Speaker 1: like when Nathan left the band, just like when we
- 7:10Speaker 1: took a break and came back. We shouldn't be identifying
- 7:13Speaker 1: ourselves with the things that you know we're struggling with.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Those are for us to work through. We owe the
- 7:19Speaker 1: fans music because that's our product. And Alex's intuition, even
- 7:24Speaker 1: through the parts where we're having like tough vives or
- 7:26Speaker 1: tough you know, creative differences and whatnot, his intuition has
- 7:29Speaker 1: always been incredibly strong. And that's why I respect him
- 7:32Speaker 1: a lot as a musician. So that's a big credit
- 7:34Speaker 1: to Alex.
- 7:35Speaker 2: You're Alex for.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know, to me, well, mister Shine is
- 7:42Speaker 4: the music, right and everything around is you know, things
- 7:47Speaker 4: that are around. But we need to make you know
- 7:50Speaker 4: the music shine, And I wouldn't like to add other
- 7:53Speaker 4: things around. You know, music is an important thing for us.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Friend, that could take you out of your book. Guys.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Well, I'm very much like you know, I want to
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm very much in the mindset of let's publicize everything.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Let's publicize every fight, let's publicize it, let's be so
- 8:13Speaker 1: raw and real with everybody. But Alex really always brings
- 8:16Speaker 1: it back to the point that we are a business.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You know, we're a brotherhood, and we're a business, and
- 8:21Speaker 1: our business is music. And what we want people to
- 8:23Speaker 1: what we want people to know us for, is the music.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And that's what's the most important. So when we came back,
- 8:28Speaker 1: you know, one of those conditions of sort of reworking
- 8:31Speaker 1: together was we need to get in the studio, we
- 8:33Speaker 1: need to start working. Huddle the bullshit. Just let's get
- 8:36Speaker 1: to work. Let's actually get to work. Let's get some
- 8:38Speaker 1: shit done. And that's what we're doing.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Oh and that ship had been done that has come
- 8:44Speaker 3: in the form of a single You're released late last
- 8:46Speaker 3: year called People, which absolutely fucking banging. Guys. That was
- 8:49Speaker 3: it received people? Did people forget about you where you
- 8:52Speaker 3: were going or do they still were there there when
- 8:54Speaker 3: you go back?
- 8:57Speaker 1: Oh, let Alex talk about this part because he's more
- 8:59Speaker 1: on the back end. You can talk.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Okay, I'm still impressed of the numbers because it's bumping.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Last week was like ten k, but now it's like
- 9:11Speaker 4: fifteen ok streams and it's got it's gone super strong.
- 9:17Speaker 2: We are super happy with the reception.
- 9:21Speaker 4: And it's a song that we wrote time ago, but
- 9:25Speaker 4: we were delaying the recording and we ended up, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 4: very happy everyone with the results and we're going to
- 9:34Speaker 4: it to release it and we said we need to
- 9:36Speaker 4: release this one as soon as possible.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So this is they come back song, right, So that's
- 9:44Speaker 2: that's the aime of that song.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and this this single as well. This has been
- 9:49Speaker 1: the first time the Rejects have hit the amount of
- 9:52Speaker 1: monthly listeners that we have just from this single alone.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And we've collectively, you know, gained an enormous amount of
- 10:00Speaker 1: streams over time, but this is the most amount of
- 10:02Speaker 1: monthly listeners we've been able to accumulate in one go,
- 10:05Speaker 1: which is we owe this song a lot, and I'm
- 10:07Speaker 1: glad we saved it because it came out at a
- 10:10Speaker 1: time where it really reflected all the things rejects had
- 10:13Speaker 1: been through it and all the things that we plan
- 10:15Speaker 1: to do, which is, you know, hurt people, hurt people,
- 10:17Speaker 1: So let's stop being hurt people. Let's start healing, let's
- 10:19Speaker 1: start moving forward musically.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Like, but there's something that is typically mediums fucked from
- 10:25Speaker 3: you guys, but to me it seemed to have a
- 10:27Speaker 3: lot more punching aggression to it. Like, am I right
- 10:29Speaker 3: in saying that?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, we've played live enough to know that. Like
- 10:37Speaker 1: when you try to build out a set when you
- 10:40Speaker 1: first start. I guess when you first start in a band,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you want to fill out your set with all the
- 10:44Speaker 1: songs that you wrote growing up, and you want to
- 10:46Speaker 1: perfect those things. But when you get into the actual
- 10:48Speaker 1: business of music, you realize that certain songs really bring
- 10:52Speaker 1: a crowd together and really like get everybody involved and excited.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And so our goal was to think about all the
- 10:58Speaker 1: songs that we've been working on, maybe you know, putting
- 11:00Speaker 1: in a B side, and really bring them to the forefront.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And Her People was one of those songs. We always
- 11:05Speaker 1: agreed was such a banger and it had so much
- 11:07Speaker 1: juice to it, we just didn't the timing was never right,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and the timing was finally right.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So yeah, we this was This was.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Pure aggression from us, and the album is a good
- 11:19Speaker 1: reflection of this is a good start to what we
- 11:21Speaker 1: have to offer.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Tell me more about this album, guys, I'm dying and
- 11:26Speaker 3: dying to know about it.
- 11:27Speaker 2: What's what?
- 11:27Speaker 3: What can we expect? Oh?
- 11:30Speaker 4: They unexpected? Because I think it has done much variety
- 11:36Speaker 4: in the songs. Every song is very different.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It's very sick, and.
- 11:42Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:42Speaker 2: We have from.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Almost almost a ballad to super strong songs like for example,
- 11:51Speaker 4: Her People that is a strong, almost super heavy, and
- 11:56Speaker 4: also we have punk songs.
- 11:58Speaker 2: So, as I said, expect the unexpected.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, what's the title? Do it? Do it?
- 12:09Speaker 1: Tell him? Alex?
- 12:10Speaker 2: Is it written in a stone? Yeah?
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, if we say it now, it is. If
- 12:18Speaker 1: we say it now it is, you can't go back
- 12:20Speaker 1: on it.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I really like the name. Okay, you say it's yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 1: All right, So with I'm going to tell you the name,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and then we're going to discuss why we've called it
- 12:30Speaker 1: this and the history because this is a name that
- 12:34Speaker 1: started back in the day.
- 12:35Speaker 2: When we started.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You know, although this work, although this word has I
- 12:42Speaker 1: guess connotations to it, it is it is very rooted
- 12:46Speaker 1: in the Rejects history. So we are calling the next
- 12:49Speaker 1: album after Thought, which at first glance is going to
- 12:54Speaker 1: seem like, how would you imagine? What's an afterthought? Is
- 12:57Speaker 1: this kind of just secondary? Is this kind of let know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: none of that nonsense? What afterthought means is we have
- 13:05Speaker 1: been overthinking, overdoing, over materializing, over everything. This is raw.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Let's let's just give them what we think is the
- 13:17Speaker 1: best of the best that the Rejects has to offer.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And we have such a collection of songs that Pete
- 13:23Speaker 1: Alex is one hundred percent right. You have to expect
- 13:25Speaker 1: the unexpected, because you're gonna hear some heavy stuff. You're
- 13:29Speaker 1: gonna hear some guns and Roses sounding songs. You're gonna
- 13:31Speaker 1: hear some Blink one eight two sounding songs, and then
- 13:33Speaker 1: we're gonna hit you with the most beautiful ballad you
- 13:35Speaker 1: ever gonna hear. And I promise there will be tears.
- 13:38Speaker 1: There's gonna be some tears. So we brought the violins in.
- 13:42Speaker 1: We've got we've got a production for everybody. I cannot wait.
- 13:47Speaker 3: If you've got me excited. That sounds if you finish it,
- 13:54Speaker 3: put it together for release. Are you still recording.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Done? Ready to go?
- 14:02Speaker 3: We are.
- 14:02Speaker 1: We're doing the rude thing and just cascading it and
- 14:05Speaker 1: sort of doing a little dictees throughout the year, and
- 14:08Speaker 1: then we'll and then we're gonna we're gonna drop. We're
- 14:10Speaker 1: gonna drop it hard on everybody. We're not going to
- 14:13Speaker 1: talk about the release date yet because that's still something
- 14:15Speaker 1: where we're negotiating, because I mean, we definitely want to
- 14:18Speaker 1: market this properly. We want to make sure that our
- 14:20Speaker 1: reach is at the maximum, So I don't want to
- 14:22Speaker 1: set any hard and expectations in place for fans or anything,
- 14:26Speaker 1: but you can't expect it somewhere in the mid block
- 14:29Speaker 1: of this year. We're going to definitely try to get
- 14:32Speaker 1: it out in the mid block this year. But before then,
- 14:35Speaker 1: we will make sure that you guys have your palette.
- 14:38Speaker 1: You know, we're gonna were getting wet palettes. We're gonna
- 14:40Speaker 1: give you the songs, We're gonna give you some stuff,
- 14:42Speaker 1: so we're not gonna leave you hanging.
- 14:45Speaker 3: So you guys are also going to be playing at
- 14:47Speaker 3: the Monk and Pedal Festival in womber ll On, Master
- 14:50Speaker 3: first with the Bennis Franken Bilk, Piston, Fish Beast Machine.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Have got a good band's there. But the best thing
- 14:55Speaker 3: about it, I can see the photo of the place
- 14:57Speaker 3: looks magnificent. It's on the beach. It's fucking big views
- 15:01Speaker 3: with big expansive views. It looks like the ideal plays
- 15:04Speaker 3: for a Metal rocksday.
- 15:05Speaker 4: It looks amazing. We're gonna wait for that one because
- 15:08Speaker 4: the lineup is great. We'll be heading to New South Wales,
- 15:13Speaker 4: so it's going to be.
- 15:17Speaker 2: So good. I'm gonna wait for that one.
- 15:20Speaker 3: But before then we have got Rock Is Not Dead
- 15:23Speaker 3: at the Kuala Chabin February the first heaps a good
- 15:26Speaker 3: bands plan. People should get out and support it. But
- 15:29Speaker 3: aside from that, welcome back guys. It's fucking awesome to
- 15:33Speaker 3: have He's back on the scene and it's a bigger
- 15:35Speaker 3: and better things. Twenty twenty five
