- 0:02Speaker 1: Oh no. Our producer Phoebe is saying that Phoebe was
- 0:06Speaker 1: hit on this weekend by straight Man and it is
- 0:07Speaker 1: still viscerally haunting me. Oh my god, I'm so sorry
- 0:11Speaker 1: that happened to you by you by mood like, no,
- 0:20Speaker 1: we're gonna get sued again. We need to stop singing, babe,
- 0:24Speaker 1: just we numbers like as your friend, as your friend,
- 0:29Speaker 1: like you to stop, and I'm not. This is the
- 0:31Speaker 1: part of the show where I would be singing the
- 0:34Speaker 1: Sailor Moon themes an intro to this episode. He's gonna
- 0:37Speaker 1: include this thing. But but Fran and our producer Phoebe
- 0:41Speaker 1: are both giving me death stairs as I attempt to
- 0:45Speaker 1: sing the Sailor Moon themes. You're not getting it because
- 0:50Speaker 1: art isn't being appreciated. Art should be censored, just like
- 0:53Speaker 1: Sailor Man and um. But today we are talking about
- 0:58Speaker 1: anime with J. P. Brammer, because this is like a
- 1:01Speaker 1: Virgin the show where we give yesterday's pop culture today's fakes.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm Rose damn you, and I'm Fran Toronto. Today. Our
- 1:07Speaker 1: guest is JP Brammer, a good Judy of ours, incredible
- 1:11Speaker 1: author of the advice column Ola Poppy, which also is
- 1:15Speaker 1: a book Amazing Visual Artists expert et truly the person
- 1:23Speaker 1: in my phone who absolutely knows the most about anime
- 1:28Speaker 1: um so thank god we have him here to pop
- 1:31Speaker 1: our cherries kinda and tell us what pokemon we are. Yes,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I was just watching a TikTok where this person was
- 1:43Speaker 1: talking about how they have multiple fan fiction accounts and
- 1:48Speaker 1: on one of them they faked their own death so
- 1:52Speaker 1: they wouldn't have to keep updating a story queen, which
- 1:57Speaker 1: I love. Like, that's the level of like boredom I
- 2:01Speaker 1: get to where I've picked up a hobby or something.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I don't want to do this anymore and would love
- 2:06Speaker 1: to be able to fake my own death to get
- 2:07Speaker 1: out of it. Like if I could fake my own
- 2:09Speaker 1: death to get out of doing this podcast, it's only
- 2:12Speaker 1: a matter of time before you do. Oh wait, speaking
- 2:15Speaker 1: of faking your own death, do you know what I
- 2:17Speaker 1: did this Friday? Friday? I went and saw the national
- 2:21Speaker 1: tour of Wicked, the musical The Untold Story of the
- 2:25Speaker 1: Witches of Oz. I saw it at the seracer strum
- 2:29Speaker 1: Um Center for the Arts in Coasta, Mesa, from California.
- 2:34Speaker 1: My friend said, L O L. Look the Wicked National
- 2:37Speaker 1: tour is coming to sort of near l A. And
- 2:41Speaker 1: I like texted back a screenshot of the receipt of
- 2:44Speaker 1: me having bought the tickets. You know, it was like
- 2:46Speaker 1: you thought you were you were joking. No, this is
- 2:48Speaker 1: this is happening, Baba. No, it's never a joke when
- 2:51Speaker 1: it comes to Wicked with you. So it took two
- 2:54Speaker 1: hours each way to get there. God, and we had
- 2:57Speaker 1: reservations to go to dinner at this place which had
- 3:00Speaker 1: a Wicked themed cocktail came with little witch hots. We
- 3:05Speaker 1: asked the waiter. He's like, I don't know, it's like
- 3:08Speaker 1: something witchy. Was it called the Wickedly Talented Adele disease?
- 3:12Speaker 1: Doesn't know it was not, unfortunately, um, but we like,
- 3:17Speaker 1: this is so humiliating. We were late for the show.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It took so long to get in. I never and
- 3:26Speaker 1: Fran you know how I feel about lateness and about
- 3:29Speaker 1: being on time. Rose is the most punctual girl you
- 3:33Speaker 1: have ever met, And like, this is the thing. The
- 3:35Speaker 1: whole trauma around being late for me and why I'm
- 3:38Speaker 1: so dramatically early to everything is that I grew up
- 3:43Speaker 1: with parents who were always late, and I hated being
- 3:46Speaker 1: late for things, and so it conditioned me to always
- 3:49Speaker 1: want to be early. So now when I'm forced into
- 3:52Speaker 1: a scenario in which I am late against my will,
- 3:56Speaker 1: I am furious. And then okay, so then the show
- 3:59Speaker 1: starts at seventh pty and like by the time we
- 4:02Speaker 1: actually get to the door to go in the theater,
- 4:04Speaker 1: like our door to enter, it's only seven. And most plays,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know, I would say, there's a couple of minute
- 4:12Speaker 1: grace period, but we get we get upstairs. Yeah, plays
- 4:17Speaker 1: do not start exactly on. Ushers have no grace you this.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Ushers are the most judgmental people on the planet. And
- 4:23Speaker 1: let me tell you, I used to be an usher.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Did you know this? I did not know that. My
- 4:28Speaker 1: my mom used to take me and my family like
- 4:32Speaker 1: all the time. We would be volunteer ushers for Chicago's
- 4:36Speaker 1: production of Blue Man Group. And we because my mom
- 4:42Speaker 1: loved Blue Man Group, loved and what so did we
- 4:45Speaker 1: ask the family and so it was like this Blue
- 4:47Speaker 1: Man Group path her like moral check checklists. Yeah, I suppose, so,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I mean there are some you know, it feels a
- 4:54Speaker 1: little satanic, because it's a little satanic for sure. Also,
- 4:58Speaker 1: like those those Blue Men, we're fucking each other with
- 5:01Speaker 1: their Blue Dick sucking the house down boots, but like,
- 5:04Speaker 1: should we do a Blue Man Group episode? And no, no, no,
- 5:08Speaker 1: we shouldn't we. Sorry, I'm overwriting. There's nothing to discuss
- 5:11Speaker 1: about that show other than the fact that we were
- 5:13Speaker 1: required to wear white button downs and black slacks which
- 5:16Speaker 1: we bought from Coals, which makes no sense because we
- 5:18Speaker 1: were too cheap to afford actual Bluemn tickets. I'm pretty
- 5:22Speaker 1: sure we went back and slab Bluemen Group as a
- 5:24Speaker 1: family as ushers for free, like six times. Um. Well,
- 5:31Speaker 1: this performance of Wicked the Musical was mostly okay. You know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: it's a touring production, so everything's a little jan kie.
- 5:41Speaker 1: It was performed at about one point five time speed,
- 5:45Speaker 1: like they really wanted to get through the show. The
- 5:49Speaker 1: performances were like buried across the board. Glinda was fine,
- 5:53Speaker 1: Fierro was very good and very hot. Alphaba was kind
- 5:57Speaker 1: of a snooze until no good Deed which she ate
- 6:03Speaker 1: or Madam Morrible fucking sucked. Yeah. Oh, actually, the girl
- 6:08Speaker 1: who was Nesta Rose was great and it reminded me
- 6:10Speaker 1: that I really hope we get an extended edition of Wicked.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Witch of the East in the movie, which TBD on
- 6:17Speaker 1: whether or not that ever actually happens. Well, I didn't
- 6:20Speaker 1: have as eventful of a weekend as you did. Um
- 6:23Speaker 1: you went to go see wid I went to Mexico
- 6:26Speaker 1: to hang out at a gay nude beach, and the
- 6:29Speaker 1: last day of my vacation, my phone completely died. And
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know now I'm phoneless and well, I'm hungover from
- 6:36Speaker 1: food poisoning as well. I woke up three am with
- 6:38Speaker 1: violent food poisoning. But at least I have got a
- 6:40Speaker 1: great hand. You know, it could cure your food poisoning,
- 6:43Speaker 1: or at least make you feel better. The New Florence
- 6:46Speaker 1: in the Machine song King, which I have you listened to?
- 6:49Speaker 1: You yet? Know that in Mexico zero like no service,
- 6:54Speaker 1: very bad WiFi for most of the trips. So I'm
- 6:56Speaker 1: very gratefully out of touch with reality. Unfortunately, did make
- 7:01Speaker 1: me miss some New Florence. Did you like the song?
- 7:03Speaker 1: I love it, It's so good. I I don't know
- 7:05Speaker 1: if we've talked about her at length on this podcast before,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but I am a Florence in the Machine stand and
- 7:13Speaker 1: I am so happy that mother has returned. Although she
- 7:16Speaker 1: in the song says she's not a mother, She's not
- 7:18Speaker 1: a Bride She's King, which period amazing song, such a
- 7:22Speaker 1: good video like video is very clearly referencing Hereditary meets
- 7:28Speaker 1: Suspiria with like a hocus Pocus look, like she's literally
- 7:32Speaker 1: wearing Sarah Jessica Parker's look from hocus Pocus. She's back.
- 7:36Speaker 1: She's booked at a bunch of festivals this summer. Does
- 7:38Speaker 1: that mean an album is coming? Yeah, an album's coming.
- 7:41Speaker 1: You know that. I don't go see live music, but
- 7:43Speaker 1: I absolutely will be going to see her because I've
- 7:46Speaker 1: seen her now for every era and she's the only
- 7:51Speaker 1: artist that I actually feel like I need to see
- 7:54Speaker 1: in concert because the live experience is transcendent. Possibly because
- 7:59Speaker 1: the the first time I ever did acid was out
- 8:03Speaker 1: of Florence the Machine concert. But yeah, I love her.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I have like a very intense spiritual connection to Florence,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and I'm so excited for new music. I'm a huge
- 8:15Speaker 1: Florence fan. I only I saw her once at as
- 8:19Speaker 1: the only homosexual and at a concert in Indianapolis, and
- 8:24Speaker 1: I remember it was on the fourth of July and
- 8:26Speaker 1: she qued fireworks to go off right at the second
- 8:31Speaker 1: Bridge um over. It was incredible her so much I'll
- 8:38Speaker 1: go and listen to King watch the video. Okay, I'll
- 8:43Speaker 1: watch this video. Also a video that you missed is um,
- 8:48Speaker 1: do you know who Analyn McCord is? Yes, speaking of mothers?
- 8:51Speaker 1: I did, unfortunately see this. Okay, so this is a analyne.
- 8:55Speaker 1: McCord is an actress who I really only know from
- 8:58Speaker 1: the short lived nine to Want Oh reboot along with
- 9:02Speaker 1: all of us that came out post Gossip Girl. So
- 9:07Speaker 1: cut for context. I don't know if all of you
- 9:09Speaker 1: listening to this note, but there's a war happening right now,
- 9:12Speaker 1: which I think is a topic that this podcast will
- 9:15Speaker 1: not dive into. Absolutely not qualified to him any meaningful
- 9:19Speaker 1: commentary on it, is deeply unfunny, is deepitely not something
- 9:23Speaker 1: to commentate on, especially from people in America that have
- 9:27Speaker 1: no experience in foreign affairs reporting. But one thing I
- 9:30Speaker 1: do feel comfortable commenting on it is Annelyine McCord's video
- 9:33Speaker 1: about how she wishes she were Vladimir Putin's mother so
- 9:37Speaker 1: that she would have loved him enough that he never
- 9:39Speaker 1: would have invaded Ukraine, which I think was a really
- 9:44Speaker 1: great lesson to everyone else who will now bear witness
- 9:47Speaker 1: to a literal war that we just we don't need
- 9:50Speaker 1: anybody's too say, we don't need takes. Like I'm just
- 9:54Speaker 1: waiting for all of the fashion influencers to who I followed,
- 9:57Speaker 1: to be like, let's put together an out to go
- 10:00Speaker 1: fight World War three. You know. Like there's this girl
- 10:03Speaker 1: I follow who I don't know if this is your algorithm.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Her name is Sammy. She's this British girl and her
- 10:08Speaker 1: thing is she goes, let's get dressed, and then she
- 10:11Speaker 1: proceeds to put together these like kind of ugly outfits,
- 10:15Speaker 1: but like they're very expensive, and she has like literally
- 10:19Speaker 1: every designer handbag that's ever been made, and she has
- 10:22Speaker 1: reached this point of like ubiquity that my mom, who's
- 10:26Speaker 1: on TikTok, was like, do you do you do you
- 10:29Speaker 1: follow the let's get dressed girl? And I was like, yeah, obviously, mom, Okay,
- 10:34Speaker 1: it has to be set. The fact that Pangina was eliminated,
- 10:39Speaker 1: I babe, not Manilla Hydra and should be scared for
- 10:45Speaker 1: her life life. Oh my god, I'm so worried. I
- 10:51Speaker 1: truly don't think we have ever seen a queen react
- 10:55Speaker 1: to being eliminated like Pangina did, because like that's the thing.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Not only were we all gooped and gagged, but like
- 11:02Speaker 1: usually the queens are able to pull it together enough
- 11:05Speaker 1: to leave the stage with Grace. Not Pangina, because she
- 11:09Speaker 1: did not think she was going home. She thought she
- 11:12Speaker 1: was making it to the end. And when she was
- 11:14Speaker 1: talking about her country and how like apologizing for shaming
- 11:19Speaker 1: them devastating. They have to bring her back. They have
- 11:23Speaker 1: to bring her back. I will say, the most haunting
- 11:26Speaker 1: exit from drag Race since sobbing off stage as they're
- 11:32Speaker 1: all there and I'm sure there's so much more sobbing
- 11:35Speaker 1: that was cut, Like I'm sure like part of that
- 11:38Speaker 1: is like editing. No, No, I don't think. I don't
- 11:42Speaker 1: think they would have left it. I think they turned
- 11:44Speaker 1: they turned her mike up one of the producers in
- 11:48Speaker 1: the back, like bump, bump, Pangina. That was ugly crying.
- 11:52Speaker 1: That was not ugly crying. That's like me in my
- 11:56Speaker 1: car between the Taco bell, Haywin dough and the window
- 12:00Speaker 1: where you get your food, ugly crying, hoping that neither
- 12:04Speaker 1: of the people can hear me. I have never like
- 12:07Speaker 1: seen Rue so genuinely shocked. I've never seen Michelle express
- 12:12Speaker 1: empathy in that way before. I've never seen like a
- 12:16Speaker 1: queen that's so deserved to be there, Like it was
- 12:20Speaker 1: such an absolute miscalculation on Blues part. Like I'm trying
- 12:25Speaker 1: to figure out, like how to decipher like the difference
- 12:27Speaker 1: between like what Naomi Smalls did to Manila and what
- 12:32Speaker 1: is happening here. But it's the same thing. It's they
- 12:35Speaker 1: want to win the only they're actually playing the game.
- 12:39Speaker 1: They want to take out the competition. The slight difference,
- 12:41Speaker 1: honestly is that you need to stick the landing. Because
- 12:45Speaker 1: Naomi got on that next episode, she goes, yeah, I
- 12:48Speaker 1: did it, like what she was kind of serving and
- 12:51Speaker 1: that I do see a scenario in which Blue is like,
- 12:54Speaker 1: oh my god, I didn't know. I feel so bad
- 12:58Speaker 1: that I bet he regrets. It's so hard. I mean,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I guess we'll find out this one. I also want
- 13:03Speaker 1: to know the other queen, who's whose lipstick they had.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I think Baga also eliminated Panchina, which is why it
- 13:10Speaker 1: was such a twist because I felt that Baga won
- 13:13Speaker 1: that lip sync personally, and I fucking hate Baga, Like
- 13:16Speaker 1: I disgusting to be eliminated. She should be eliminated on
- 13:21Speaker 1: get that Baga off the screen. I'm not of not
- 13:25Speaker 1: watching that a lazy, talentless piece of ship. No, she's
- 13:29Speaker 1: not talentless. Like her snatch game was phenomen but like she,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I felt she won. This was it. Though I thought
- 13:34Speaker 1: it was kind of boring, I think that it was.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It was all very like the same thing. I mean,
- 13:40Speaker 1: a snatch game is like over time and time again
- 13:43Speaker 1: completely And I didn't laughing her. I I giggled. I
- 13:47Speaker 1: felt that she did the best out of the group.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And I felt that Baga, even though her style of
- 13:52Speaker 1: lip syncing is so lazy like drunk woman and at
- 13:56Speaker 1: a bar in Manchester or whatever, it still was wildly
- 14:00Speaker 1: or entertaining than whatever the funk Blue did. And I
- 14:02Speaker 1: thought they were both. They were both horrible. That's that's
- 14:05Speaker 1: what I should say, is they're both horrible. But I felt, well,
- 14:07Speaker 1: that's I think what was gonna eliminate was going to
- 14:10Speaker 1: eliminate Pangina, So for Blue to eliminate just I wonder
- 14:15Speaker 1: if like the bad lip syncing on UK versus the
- 14:18Speaker 1: World is like somewhat a product of like not having
- 14:22Speaker 1: the fear of being sent home in you to make
- 14:24Speaker 1: you do better. But then again, the lip syncs on
- 14:27Speaker 1: regular Drag Race where they could be going home. Have
- 14:30Speaker 1: not been great either, Yeah, they really have not. Thank
- 14:47Speaker 1: you for being here today. I am so happy to
- 14:49Speaker 1: be here. Above being a content creator, I am a
- 14:52Speaker 1: content consumer. So I'm very excited to discuss some anime
- 14:56Speaker 1: with you today. Yes, because you know, last mer I
- 15:00Speaker 1: texted you and said, I really want to get more
- 15:03Speaker 1: into anime. What should I watch? And what did you
- 15:07Speaker 1: tell me? Um? Well, I said Hunter x Hunter. I
- 15:10Speaker 1: said full mettal Alchemist. I said Avatar, which it's hotly
- 15:15Speaker 1: debated if that's anime or not. You know, purists will say,
- 15:19Speaker 1: purists will say it's not. Um but anime is kind
- 15:21Speaker 1: of a state of mind at the end of the day.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So if you feel like it's anime, it's anime. Um
- 15:27Speaker 1: And I remember telling you to stick with Avatar because
- 15:29Speaker 1: you're like, this is for children. Yeah, the first couple
- 15:32Speaker 1: of episodes, the first couple episodes are a little rough
- 15:34Speaker 1: and like very childish, and then it just gets so
- 15:38Speaker 1: real and so good, very adult fast. Yeah, very quickly. Yes,
- 15:42Speaker 1: But but ultimately you told me to watch Neon Genesis
- 15:47Speaker 1: Evan Gillian and I did watch. I did, and really
- 15:50Speaker 1: liked it. It's you know, like a show about huge
- 15:54Speaker 1: robots that take over the planet. Yeah, and it's very gorgeous. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 1: it's the premise give us a t LDR, My god,
- 16:02Speaker 1: the premise, okay, as if you could give a t
- 16:04Speaker 1: LDR any any like large scale anime that has the
- 16:07Speaker 1: most intricate lots ever. M Evan Gelian follows the journey
- 16:10Speaker 1: of Shinji, who is a young boy living in what's
- 16:14Speaker 1: called Tokyo three. So something called Second Impact has already
- 16:17Speaker 1: happened and wiped out half of humanity. The remainder of
- 16:20Speaker 1: humanity is sort of living underground in Tokyo three, and
- 16:24Speaker 1: Shinji gets selected by his father to pilot an ava
- 16:29Speaker 1: or an Evan Gelian, and this is something that is
- 16:31Speaker 1: meant to fight off these things called aliens that for
- 16:34Speaker 1: some reason are attacking Tokyo three. No one's quite sure why.
- 16:38Speaker 1: But a select few kids, all selected from the same class,
- 16:42Speaker 1: by the way, so these are all like potential pilots,
- 16:44Speaker 1: were put into a school together. Um, a few are
- 16:46Speaker 1: selected to pilot to the avas, and the ava's have
- 16:49Speaker 1: to fight off the angels. And there's a whole lot
- 16:52Speaker 1: of lore going on behind it, but I think at
- 16:54Speaker 1: its core it's sort of about Shinji really not wanting
- 16:58Speaker 1: to pilot this robot and his dad being like pilot
- 17:01Speaker 1: the robot. And it's just one season, right, yes, and
- 17:04Speaker 1: there are movies afterwards. So when Shinji like joins the
- 17:10Speaker 1: whole scenario, there are already some pilots of these robots
- 17:14Speaker 1: and it's they it seems to be really difficult to
- 17:16Speaker 1: pilot the robots. Yes, it is not fun pilot, which
- 17:21Speaker 1: is kind of like seems goes against I think what
- 17:24Speaker 1: a lot of us would assume as kids is like
- 17:26Speaker 1: all you want to do is control a giant robot exactly.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I think that my favorite animals sort of trouble the
- 17:34Speaker 1: power trip fantasy, so like being you should be able
- 17:37Speaker 1: to do this thing and wield this power and it
- 17:39Speaker 1: should be so much fun, but their complications and their restrictions.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Um Hunter Hunter, my favorite anime of all time, does
- 17:45Speaker 1: that as well. But in Ava sort of like who
- 17:47Speaker 1: doesn't want to pilot a huge robot? And they look
- 17:49Speaker 1: really cool, I mean they look chic, their fears looking
- 17:55Speaker 1: like they yeah blens Way for sure. No, just I
- 17:58Speaker 1: feel like, um, I want to know more actually about
- 18:00Speaker 1: like the place that this like that this kind of
- 18:04Speaker 1: culture object found you, Like when did you first start
- 18:07Speaker 1: watching it? Why? Um, like when you like, what was
- 18:11Speaker 1: your kind of first impression? Like Rose and Eild virgins
- 18:14Speaker 1: to it. I think that we were saying, like, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you you power through those first three episodes and like
- 18:18Speaker 1: you get into the world, like what was your kind
- 18:21Speaker 1: of first impression first? So I read this YouTube comment
- 18:24Speaker 1: that rang true to me, which is the more depressed
- 18:27Speaker 1: you are when you find Evangelian, the more you will
- 18:30Speaker 1: enjoy it. I think that it is a very moody anime.
- 18:34Speaker 1: It is I think at its core about loneliness and
- 18:37Speaker 1: about feelings of isolation. It's got this sort of like
- 18:40Speaker 1: apocalyptic but at the same time disaffected kind of thing
- 18:45Speaker 1: going on around it. The coolest girl in anime ever,
- 18:49Speaker 1: she's so cool. She really embodies the vibe of the
- 18:53Speaker 1: whole thing, Like she's really cool, she's sexy, she's capable.
- 18:56Speaker 1: She never quite panics or freaks out, even though there's
- 18:58Speaker 1: these giant creatures attack King, and so the apocalypse sort
- 19:01Speaker 1: of becomes mundane and even yeah, they're very nonchalant to that,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like they're living in this bunker after this huge explosion
- 19:08Speaker 1: has taken half of humanity out and mist is sort
- 19:12Speaker 1: of just this hyper competent, sexy general kind of woman,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and she's like, I gotta fight these angels today, gotta
- 19:19Speaker 1: fight these monsters before they wipe out humanity, and she's
- 19:22Speaker 1: just sort of about it. Which I happened to watch
- 19:24Speaker 1: this anime before I guess the world really started falling apart,
- 19:29Speaker 1: But I think it's gaining more resonance with me now
- 19:30Speaker 1: because the apocalypse does feel rather mundane at times, or
- 19:33Speaker 1: like everything is falling apart, everything is apocalyptic every day
- 19:36Speaker 1: and we're just still going about our little chores and
- 19:38Speaker 1: going about our little lives. And you know, she's just
- 19:42Speaker 1: a sort of like, you know, I love beer, I
- 19:43Speaker 1: love taking weekends off, and I'm really good at fighting
- 19:46Speaker 1: these aliens. Um. But I watched it about I want
- 19:50Speaker 1: to say, twenty seventeen. I was a new Ish to
- 19:53Speaker 1: New York still and really feeling that isolation of being
- 19:56Speaker 1: surrounded by a lot of people, not really knowing everyone.
- 19:59Speaker 1: You know, that classic you're on the subway, people are
- 20:01Speaker 1: all around you and you feel anonymized by the city.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It's just like that very cliche, you know, but so
- 20:08Speaker 1: so real. And I think that evan Gelian is kind
- 20:11Speaker 1: of about that feeling of just like, wait a minute,
- 20:14Speaker 1: I'm alone in this world. Um, it's very isolating. It's
- 20:17Speaker 1: very like in Evangelian Um for those who haven't watched it,
- 20:21Speaker 1: they have this concept, which I love, called an absolute
- 20:24Speaker 1: terror field. Okay, that's just my life. So literally, in
- 20:30Speaker 1: the world of Evangelian the absolute terror field is the
- 20:33Speaker 1: thing that makes you an individual. It is your fear
- 20:36Speaker 1: of connecting with another person intimately that collects and holds
- 20:40Speaker 1: you as a person that you can't quite merge seamlessly
- 20:44Speaker 1: with another human beings. So it's a literal force field.
- 20:46Speaker 1: The Angels have them, and they're more literal like their
- 20:49Speaker 1: actual force field, so if you try shooting them with missiles,
- 20:51Speaker 1: the absolute terror field will kind of protect them. But
- 20:54Speaker 1: it works that way with humans too, because the goal
- 20:56Speaker 1: of evan Gelian is the Human Instrumentality Project, which is
- 21:00Speaker 1: meant to turn all of humanity into one superorganism. So
- 21:04Speaker 1: they're all gonna lose their individuality and they're going to
- 21:06Speaker 1: join into a blobby, hive mind kind of thing and
- 21:09Speaker 1: it will be bliss and everyone will be reunited with
- 21:11Speaker 1: everyone else, and that no one will ever be lonely again.
- 21:13Speaker 1: That's sort of the idea behind human instrumentality. Meanwhile, everything
- 21:16Speaker 1: is very depressing and isolating and desolate. Can you have
- 21:19Speaker 1: your absolute terror field around you keeping anyone else from
- 21:23Speaker 1: being able to breach the wall so to speak. Um, So,
- 21:26Speaker 1: all those things going on, I think that they're quite
- 21:29Speaker 1: easily turned into metaphors for depression, for loneliness, and I
- 21:33Speaker 1: think Evangelian speaks to you the most if you're feeling
- 21:36Speaker 1: that at the time. Okay, maybe I should try watching
- 21:39Speaker 1: it again. Job, let me tell you I am depressed. Yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I feel I love that. I mean, there, I think
- 21:45Speaker 1: it's so funny, consuming dystopian uh content of any kind. Um,
- 21:51Speaker 1: But like I never would have thought how you said
- 21:53Speaker 1: it so succinctially of like that feeling how unfortunately relatable
- 21:58Speaker 1: it is to be like, oh, I'm in an important
- 22:00Speaker 1: character in a movie about the end of the world,
- 22:03Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And but like within the
- 22:05Speaker 1: show of Evangelion, like it's almost like the mundanity translates
- 22:10Speaker 1: to something that is like so much more. Um. Yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I love that. But I feel like when I watch
- 22:14Speaker 1: like even like watching Hunger Games or like Handmaids, I'm
- 22:17Speaker 1: trying to think of like other dystopian fiction that we're
- 22:19Speaker 1: consuming now where it's like, oh yeah, you first reading,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you're like, oh that's so funny, that's so out of
- 22:24Speaker 1: this world, and then you're like, oh no, yeah, that's
- 22:26Speaker 1: kind of happening now. Yeah, squid Games not too far
- 22:31Speaker 1: from reality. It's happening. Would you do if you were
- 22:34Speaker 1: in the Hunger Games? Would you volunteer? Do you think
- 22:37Speaker 1: you could survive? Um? I think, unfortunately, what if I
- 22:41Speaker 1: was just like an avid consumer of the TV show,
- 22:43Speaker 1: like when they like televise it like the games get
- 22:46Speaker 1: to watch. That's the that's the part that everyone forgets
- 22:49Speaker 1: about the Hunger Games is that there's a huge aspect
- 22:51Speaker 1: of it which is about reality TV UM, and it's
- 22:55Speaker 1: like for entertainment purposes. I think I sadly like, well, no,
- 22:58Speaker 1: because I don't watch Survivor, So I don't know if
- 23:00Speaker 1: I would be into the Hunger Games, Like what if
- 23:02Speaker 1: I was just watching it like drag Race and I
- 23:04Speaker 1: was just like, oh my god, the Queen's this thing.
- 23:06Speaker 1: That's where I'm like, I'm I'm unfortunately been told that
- 23:09Speaker 1: I have like FI vibes, and so I I unfortunately
- 23:13Speaker 1: see that I see some of my worst self in that. Um.
- 23:17Speaker 1: So maybe I would be in the world of Hunger Games,
- 23:19Speaker 1: someone who was an avid consumer of the Hunger Games
- 23:21Speaker 1: and then maybe was radicalized two or three movies. Okay,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I would be like the Donald Sutherland. I feel like
- 23:27Speaker 1: the evil overlord with the bushy eyebrows, the bushiest eyebrows. Wait,
- 23:31Speaker 1: what's the thing? He says, and that I'm a cock
- 23:38Speaker 1: what the nicole? You know? More cock shuck, But like
- 23:43Speaker 1: in the old school version, which is like the old
- 23:47Speaker 1: school version of a cocksucker or someone who sucks cocks. Um.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Something the anime does so well is that that like
- 23:56Speaker 1: kind of dystopian isolation, even when the narrative isn't dystopie.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And like I'm thinking of a lot of like Miyazaki
- 24:02Speaker 1: films or like a Princess Mononoke or like something we're in.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It's like that character is somehow like so alone and
- 24:09Speaker 1: so and like within that aloneness it becomes like heroic.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It feels like, I mean, I know in Miyazaki creates
- 24:15Speaker 1: like a protagonist. He's always trying to like take someone
- 24:18Speaker 1: who's like really flawed, like in Spirited Away, someone who's
- 24:21Speaker 1: like manic or like she's just a child, but also
- 24:24Speaker 1: has the ability to like traverse an insurmountable level of dystopia. Um.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But I really appreciate that, and like the animal genrange.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I really love taking little breaks from I guess what
- 24:34Speaker 1: I would think of as American storytelling. I think in
- 24:37Speaker 1: a love of Japanese storytelling, it can get very dark
- 24:39Speaker 1: and also not necessarily give you the payoff you expect
- 24:42Speaker 1: at the end, where it's like, but everything will be okay, right,
- 24:44Speaker 1: and then it's just like maybe not maybe give me
- 24:48Speaker 1: give me a sad ending. Yeah, seriously, and like the
- 24:52Speaker 1: end of Evangeli and the show anyway. Um. Not speaking
- 24:55Speaker 1: on the movies is so vague and so like is
- 24:58Speaker 1: this good? Is this bad? I can't really tell. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: just love stuff like that, and you get that watching movies,
- 25:04Speaker 1: I guess from other cultures as well. Just let you
- 25:06Speaker 1: take a little vacation from the tyranny of American optimism,
- 25:11Speaker 1: where it's just like the end everyone has there has
- 25:13Speaker 1: to be a wedding where everyone's cool at the end,
- 25:15Speaker 1: every dad's fine. The happily ever after feels very western. Yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 1: and movie studios won't make things without happy endings like
- 25:22Speaker 1: it's such a fierce Um. What what was your gateway
- 25:25Speaker 1: drug into anime? As something of an anime consume? It
- 25:29Speaker 1: brings me no pleasure to announce this. Um it was Naruto.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And I know everything there is to know about Naruto.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Is it frowned up myself? Is it frowned upon an
- 25:38Speaker 1: anime community? You know, it's just silly to me because
- 25:41Speaker 1: here's why my little sisters love Naruto. It's so good
- 25:45Speaker 1: and so bad. Like I think if the quality of
- 25:48Speaker 1: the later seasons were better, I would be like more
- 25:51Speaker 1: upfront about being a Naruto stand. But I know everything
- 25:54Speaker 1: about the Great Ninja War arc, and that is trash
- 25:57Speaker 1: like garbage, garbage story telling. Nothing makes sense. People have
- 26:02Speaker 1: sort of checked out in terms of the animation and
- 26:04Speaker 1: the art style. Um, everyone gets brought back as some
- 26:07Speaker 1: sort of zombie like clearly they're out of ideas. And
- 26:10Speaker 1: it's just hard. It's hard being a Naruto stand. We
- 26:13Speaker 1: are often um overlooked in this country and we are underfed.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And what is Naruto about? Um? Naruto is about a goofy,
- 26:25Speaker 1: little neglected ninja who would grow up to become the
- 26:27Speaker 1: Ninja president. Um. So he went from a child soldier
- 26:31Speaker 1: to being the leader of the child soldiers and that's beautiful. Yeah, beautiful. Yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 1: it sounds sounds great. Well, that's what's so weird about
- 26:40Speaker 1: Naruto is that, like, so the main antagonist is always like,
- 26:42Speaker 1: this whole system is horrible. I'm going to like get
- 26:45Speaker 1: rid of it and start over again. And the show
- 26:47Speaker 1: makes you think that's this horrible idea, and then you
- 26:49Speaker 1: look at it again, it's like, why are these children
- 26:51Speaker 1: going out fighting each other with knives and their little superpowers?
- 26:55Speaker 1: And that's not great. Maybe Sacek made some points, but
- 26:58Speaker 1: the show kind of doesn't let you explore that. There's
- 27:01Speaker 1: a lot of anime child warriors, like even Sailor Moon
- 27:04Speaker 1: like that, by the power of the Moon, I will
- 27:07Speaker 1: punish you, like she is a you know, magical girl,
- 27:10Speaker 1: um teenage uh the magical cop cop, magical moon cop.
- 27:18Speaker 1: She is a magical you know. It's so I was
- 27:21Speaker 1: about to say, Taylor Swift, Sailor Moon was like definitely
- 27:23Speaker 1: my gateway drug. I guess maybe a lot of baby
- 27:26Speaker 1: queers had that. But I remember being in like the
- 27:29Speaker 1: anime aisle, or rather not even an aisle, like an
- 27:32Speaker 1: anime like section of Blockbuster and begging my mom to
- 27:36Speaker 1: let me take home like the vhs that had like
- 27:39Speaker 1: the first eight episodes or whatever, because like my mom
- 27:43Speaker 1: wouldn't didn't want me to bring it home because it's
- 27:45Speaker 1: like very femin It's like this, like you know, it's
- 27:47Speaker 1: like almost like Barbie content, you know what I mean.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And so there was something where she was just like,
- 27:51Speaker 1: my Sean can't watch this. But like I when I
- 27:54Speaker 1: took it home, I remember being like kind of like
- 27:57Speaker 1: in it for the girliness and then staying for you know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: that subversion of like the heroine of like because Sailor
- 28:05Speaker 1: Moon is like famously like a dumb bimbo, and I
- 28:09Speaker 1: feel like she's like never knows what's going on, and
- 28:11Speaker 1: like she never she's like always at a cross um,
- 28:13Speaker 1: she's always at a crossroad that someone has to fix
- 28:16Speaker 1: for her, but that she's still like saves the day
- 28:19Speaker 1: every time. I don't consume anything where there's a little
- 28:21Speaker 1: theme going on, like I'm the lightning one, I'm the
- 28:23Speaker 1: fire one, I'm the water one. I love that. Well.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Like Pokemon, let's talk about it. I think we should
- 28:30Speaker 1: have that conversation conversation. What was your Pokemon? Your first
- 28:33Speaker 1: Pokemon memories, my first Pokemon memories. My god, it goes
- 28:37Speaker 1: so far back. I remember getting a Pikachu plush because
- 28:40Speaker 1: I was gay. I was very uninterested in like the
- 28:41Speaker 1: actual like card game. I didn't want to play anyone else.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I wanted to collect the shiny ones, for sure. But
- 28:46Speaker 1: they were like boys in my Catholic school who knew
- 28:49Speaker 1: all the rules and we're very into like actually battling
- 28:51Speaker 1: each other, or like back in those days you would
- 28:53Speaker 1: connect your game boys together with a cable and joking
- 28:59Speaker 1: that's a double end dildo. I was mostly in it
- 29:02Speaker 1: for the aesthetics, like I am for everything else in
- 29:03Speaker 1: this world. I was just like, oh, I love the
- 29:05Speaker 1: way these look. Um, specifically like dragon Air. I think
- 29:09Speaker 1: that's the gayest. Yeah, the one with the horn and
- 29:13Speaker 1: the wings. I saw her at dragon Airs at Pieces.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yeah she's at Pieces right now. Um yeah. I I
- 29:21Speaker 1: remember also not being that into the card game at all.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Like I was just like, these are pretty, and I
- 29:25Speaker 1: want to draw all these Pokemon, and I'm going to
- 29:27Speaker 1: collect a binder full of them, but like did not
- 29:29Speaker 1: actually really connect to the lore. Obviously watched the series
- 29:33Speaker 1: and was like horny for Brock and Misty. Yeah, talk
- 29:38Speaker 1: about another heroin Bembo, Like Misty is so hot and
- 29:41Speaker 1: so fierce. She's the water one. Yeah, she's the what
- 29:45Speaker 1: was your Pokemon entry point? Okay? Great? Second grade? UM,
- 29:49Speaker 1: that's when you know the the franchise of Pokemon took flight.
- 29:54Speaker 1: It was like huge success, um. And once it reached
- 29:57Speaker 1: like the American zeitgeist, and then, of course a little
- 30:00Speaker 1: later reached the Midwest where I was, UM, kids started
- 30:04Speaker 1: collecting cards and it was immediately banned at my high school.
- 30:08Speaker 1: UM in large part because I think kids started fighting
- 30:11Speaker 1: over cards, and there became financial ramifications to like, you know,
- 30:16Speaker 1: eleven and twelve year olds, like giving away or getting
- 30:19Speaker 1: tricked into like trading really expensive. Yeah. It was literally
- 30:24Speaker 1: an economy, and all of a sudden, the parents have
- 30:27Speaker 1: to like research on the monetary value of these cards,
- 30:29Speaker 1: which is they're like, it's so absurd. It was an economy.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Implying that there was a Bernie made off of the
- 30:35Speaker 1: Pokemon economy in some middle school somewhere. I wonder who.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I wonder who It wasn't me. I wasn't savvy. I
- 30:40Speaker 1: was just like I love Metwo exactly. I never did
- 30:45Speaker 1: the card game. I U got I wanted the game
- 30:49Speaker 1: that when Nintendo Blue came out, I had the original
- 30:52Speaker 1: Pokemon Nintendo game and I played it to the end,
- 30:56Speaker 1: and then I never had any interest in Pokemon again.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Uh wow, like people people were playing with the cards
- 31:05Speaker 1: at my school. I just like, really, I wasn't into it.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I think like I was into like Magical Girl anime. UM,
- 31:14Speaker 1: but I don't know, like the game didn't really do
- 31:17Speaker 1: it for me. Um. And I haven't like through the years,
- 31:20Speaker 1: I have not really spent a lot of time with
- 31:24Speaker 1: anime except you know, um, um, you know, upon your recommendations.
- 31:28Speaker 1: And then okay, earlier this year, like the end of
- 31:31Speaker 1: last year, I did get kind of into this one
- 31:33Speaker 1: anime called the Ancient Major Spride. Have you watched you
- 31:38Speaker 1: your sever down the Iceberg? I know what? Yeah? Okay,
- 31:42Speaker 1: So it's about this girl who sells herself into slavery
- 31:48Speaker 1: because she's poor. Um and she is, and she's bought
- 31:52Speaker 1: by a demon who has like a skull head no no, no, um,
- 31:57Speaker 1: and he's like, I'm your daddy, now I'm going to
- 32:00Speaker 1: take care of you. Also, you have magical powers, and
- 32:04Speaker 1: that's kind of what the show is about. It's about
- 32:05Speaker 1: her like getting into all these magical hi jinks and
- 32:08Speaker 1: then he like comes and saves her and he's like,
- 32:10Speaker 1: we're gonna get married, the classic coming of age narrative. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: of course there was something like there was something a
- 32:29Speaker 1: little insidious about like the fact that not all of these,
- 32:32Speaker 1: not some of these like more adult enemies, but like
- 32:34Speaker 1: a lot of these cartoons were designed for kids, and
- 32:37Speaker 1: yet their characters are so hot, like so so I
- 32:41Speaker 1: was attracted to every Miyazaki protagonist, all of them girls
- 32:44Speaker 1: and boys, like and that anything the androgyny of like
- 32:47Speaker 1: how pretty these characters were. It's like a part of that,
- 32:49Speaker 1: like draw well animals very fami, very fam even the
- 32:54Speaker 1: boys are so like emotive and like in their feelings
- 32:57Speaker 1: and problems, huge huge hair. Oh my god, how much
- 33:02Speaker 1: gel is being in these animals? And Gary ashcatch ums
- 33:08Speaker 1: nemeses and Pokemon was a fag And I think that
- 33:11Speaker 1: was the big crux of their relationship, is like Gary
- 33:13Speaker 1: was in love with Ash and like didn't want to
- 33:15Speaker 1: admit it, you know what I mean. Um anyways, that's
- 33:18Speaker 1: a tangent. I also needed to mention that, um my
- 33:21Speaker 1: mother forbid me from watching Pokemon after like my first
- 33:26Speaker 1: to Blockbuster rentals because a neighbor told her that people
- 33:31Speaker 1: were getting seizures from it. Yeah, No, not at all.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I mean there might have ben there may yeah, of
- 33:37Speaker 1: course there may be. Maybe what there was like one
- 33:39Speaker 1: headline m that my mom read on like focus on
- 33:42Speaker 1: the Family dot com or something like that about how
- 33:44Speaker 1: like someone you know with epilepsy maybe saw Pikachuse Flash
- 33:48Speaker 1: and had a seizure or something. But like my mom
- 33:50Speaker 1: literally forbid me from watching it because she was like, no,
- 33:53Speaker 1: Pokemon gives you seizures. And I was like, Okay, I
- 33:56Speaker 1: definitely definitely remember Pokemon. I think kind of Harold Ding
- 34:00Speaker 1: the the anime boom in America and we really have
- 34:04Speaker 1: had it ever since. And having sisters who are younger
- 34:09Speaker 1: than me, they're they're eighteen year old twins. Um it was.
- 34:13Speaker 1: They love anime and have like their their whole lives
- 34:18Speaker 1: as they've been like conscious of what they're consuming. And
- 34:21Speaker 1: I think, I guess, and it's just now part of
- 34:23Speaker 1: like the culture Alexicon for for kids growing up now
- 34:27Speaker 1: they have so much more access to it than even
- 34:30Speaker 1: we did as teenagers. You know. I just thought about
- 34:33Speaker 1: one thing that needs to be addressed is the number
- 34:35Speaker 1: of bops that anime has given us in weeks, like
- 34:39Speaker 1: a Cruel Angels thesis, the theme song to Ethan Gillian
- 34:41Speaker 1: I love, It's so good it's it's slab, like the
- 34:48Speaker 1: theme songs Oh please, the full Middle Alchemist soundtrack incredible,
- 34:52Speaker 1: like oh my gosh, sailor Moon. Honestly, I was at
- 34:56Speaker 1: a party that I will not name and promote here
- 34:58Speaker 1: where they played a a remix of the Pokemon theme
- 35:03Speaker 1: song and I astral projected, we're taking this out. Bleep it,
- 35:10Speaker 1: bleep it, phoebe by. No, I was not on the
- 35:14Speaker 1: poke bon I was. I was at something. I was
- 35:16Speaker 1: at another time party, another bleep party, um, and uh
- 35:20Speaker 1: yeah it was. It slapped its leaped so hard. But
- 35:22Speaker 1: I also was thinking about I don't know if we
- 35:24Speaker 1: want to get to this too fast, But I am
- 35:26Speaker 1: thinking about urion Ice, of course, are well you think
- 35:30Speaker 1: about your course for the virgins. For the virgins, uri
- 35:34Speaker 1: on Ice is maybe one of the gayest things ever created.
- 35:38Speaker 1: And we have consumed, between the three of us a
- 35:41Speaker 1: lot of gay ship. We are paid to consume a
- 35:44Speaker 1: lot of homorotic things, and easily your on Ice is
- 35:49Speaker 1: the gayest because it's not because it's not only about ice,
- 35:52Speaker 1: it's not only about figure skating. It's about gay figure skating,
- 35:56Speaker 1: and it's a it's a an anime of gay figure skating,
- 35:59Speaker 1: and they create they create an entire romance. So long
- 36:03Speaker 1: story short, there is like a kind of flop ice
- 36:06Speaker 1: skater who is trying to get his he's trying to
- 36:09Speaker 1: re emerge into the zitegeist as like he's trying to
- 36:11Speaker 1: you know, have his moment back and be a professional
- 36:15Speaker 1: figure skater. And he falls in love with a coach
- 36:18Speaker 1: that is just basically body shames him into greatness. Um,
- 36:21Speaker 1: it's amazing. Um. And so I remember when I was
- 36:24Speaker 1: watching this, I was just like, wait, this is for children,
- 36:28Speaker 1: and it's huge, huge, and like consumed by heterosexual people
- 36:34Speaker 1: massively in Japan, and yet um yeah, it's like like,
- 36:38Speaker 1: so it's the horniest thing I've ever seen. And yet
- 36:41Speaker 1: they never well it's arguable they kiss, but it's like
- 36:45Speaker 1: their faces are hidden. Why don't you think they I
- 36:48Speaker 1: think it's up for interpretation, and I think that they don't.
- 36:51Speaker 1: They absolutely kissed. Why it is literally so gay that
- 36:54Speaker 1: it's ambiguous. That's the thing. Actually, that's that's not Ki
- 37:00Speaker 1: sing is gayer than kissing, Okay, but the only thing
- 37:03Speaker 1: gayer than gay sex is the anticipation of gays. Let
- 37:06Speaker 1: me tell you they have a plenty of gay sex
- 37:08Speaker 1: in fan fiction. That there is a lot. There's a
- 37:11Speaker 1: lot of urion Ice fan fiction. And I have read
- 37:14Speaker 1: some of it. I have not I have not written
- 37:18Speaker 1: any of I have I have read a lot. I
- 37:21Speaker 1: um My, one of my best friends lives in Japan,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and he brought me a stack of urion Ice fan
- 37:28Speaker 1: fix that they literally like published and is sold in bookstores.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Like a lot of anime fan fic is like sold
- 37:33Speaker 1: in bookstores, and it's very It's like a whole other
- 37:35Speaker 1: genre of things. I love that genre of like homo erotic,
- 37:39Speaker 1: super niche anime. Like there's ones that are just about cooking.
- 37:43Speaker 1: What's the digest Like, what are some of them are
- 37:45Speaker 1: about bread? Well, Like there's literally an anime family, just
- 37:48Speaker 1: like there's a kink for everything. There's an anime for
- 37:50Speaker 1: absolutely everything. If there is an industry out there, there
- 37:52Speaker 1: is a niche sort of slice of life anime coffee shop,
- 37:56Speaker 1: anime restaurant, anime, um anime about like it's just every
- 38:01Speaker 1: like pilots. Yeah, exactly, if you can dream it, it exists, Yeah,
- 38:05Speaker 1: which is why Yurie was like, I was like, this
- 38:07Speaker 1: is so specific, and I'm enraptured by whether or not
- 38:11Speaker 1: he's going to do this like quadruple parrouet or whatever.
- 38:13Speaker 1: It made me so interested in figure for like for
- 38:17Speaker 1: like a very short amount of time. Yeah, and the
- 38:20Speaker 1: and the interest was really only relevant to the show
- 38:23Speaker 1: because like I do like some figure skating, like I'll
- 38:27Speaker 1: watch the Winter Olympics sometimes, but my interest wanes pretty quickly.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And I was realizing that it was more about, you know,
- 38:34Speaker 1: like the gay relationship drama than the figure skating of
- 38:38Speaker 1: it all. Um, I wish there was more of it.
- 38:40Speaker 1: There was supposed to be a movie. There wasn't. And
- 38:44Speaker 1: I mean, I'm ready for the movie whenever it comes out.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But you're on ice doing for you, Adam Ripon, couldn't
- 38:49Speaker 1: I love? Actually, you can watch it on crunchy roll
- 38:54Speaker 1: question or I guess you can pirate. Yes, I have
- 38:56Speaker 1: a crunchy roll subscription. I thought I bought it to
- 39:00Speaker 1: watch the Ancient Majors Brian Why because because okay, here's
- 39:06Speaker 1: actually how it happened. I was watching the Lindsay Ellis
- 39:10Speaker 1: video about Stephanie Meyer, and it was like apologizing to
- 39:16Speaker 1: Stephanie Meyer. Linda Ellis is a video essayist, and it
- 39:21Speaker 1: was about like the how badly everyone treated Stephanie Meyer
- 39:24Speaker 1: when Twilight came out, and it started delving into like
- 39:28Speaker 1: the like monster boyfriend trope, which is like obviously what
- 39:32Speaker 1: Twilight is, and started talking about Ancient Major's Brian and
- 39:36Speaker 1: I was like, I'm into that. One thing Rose is
- 39:39Speaker 1: going to do with any genre is find the that
- 39:44Speaker 1: absolutely regardless of absolutely It's like I have a homing beacon.
- 39:52Speaker 1: It calls you home. Yeah, directly to like the weirdest,
- 39:55Speaker 1: most perverted, darkest possible offshoot of whatever you will. You
- 40:02Speaker 1: will find her at the bottom of the iceberg every
- 40:04Speaker 1: single time, like licking the iceberg. No wait, that's actually
- 40:11Speaker 1: such a a absolutely accurate thing about how you can seem.
- 40:16Speaker 1: But it's also it's true, and it's like, you know what,
- 40:18Speaker 1: I'm happy that I have stayed curious and that and
- 40:21Speaker 1: that when something like that pops up, I'm not just like, oh, Okay,
- 40:26Speaker 1: cool child is born an artist. Yeah, you kind of
- 40:29Speaker 1: have to. That's a thing. Sometimes it's like I think
- 40:31Speaker 1: that the best cultural critics are the ones that also
- 40:34Speaker 1: understand what's at the bottom of the barrel, you know
- 40:36Speaker 1: what I mean, the things that are maybe the worst
- 40:39Speaker 1: parts of the genre. That's still okay, let's not talk
- 40:42Speaker 1: dirty about ancient majors. Yeah, maybe not that specifically, but
- 40:48Speaker 1: I do think like when I consume something, like I
- 40:50Speaker 1: kind of want to watch the bad thing too, you
- 40:52Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like, I think it helps me
- 40:54Speaker 1: understand when totally there's and there's a lot of bad animals.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Well that's where you mind, like people just trying to
- 41:02Speaker 1: scratch the itch or whatever. And I think that's what
- 41:04Speaker 1: drives most of most art forms in the world. It's
- 41:07Speaker 1: just more laid bare in the worst parts of it.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Like you see what the goals of most anime are
- 41:12Speaker 1: in a very simple form. When you look at a
- 41:14Speaker 1: bad anime, it's like, okay, yeah, it's for escapism, it's
- 41:17Speaker 1: for like looking at huge anime racks, like it's just
- 41:21Speaker 1: their breasts are so large, heaving, heaving, both the men
- 41:26Speaker 1: and the women. They have very large, big naturals. That's
- 41:30Speaker 1: that's a very crucial part of it. And I think
- 41:33Speaker 1: mikers on a new anime o, God, I'm sure it
- 41:37Speaker 1: exists already is the thing that I was about to
- 41:39Speaker 1: say on Sailor Moon, but I think she's like sixty.
- 41:42Speaker 1: They're very young on Sailor Moon, but they're just like
- 41:45Speaker 1: they fully formed. Tuxino Mask was one of my early
- 41:48Speaker 1: childhood crushes. But okay, who was your favorite sailor scout?
- 41:53Speaker 1: Mine was Sailor Venus. Mine was, I believe, also Venus,
- 41:57Speaker 1: if not Mars. Well, mine was, weirdly Sailor Mars, which
- 42:00Speaker 1: I don't understand for myself because that doesn't feel like
- 42:03Speaker 1: it fits with the rest of me. I don't know
- 42:04Speaker 1: she's I think Sailor Mars is the gayest of them. Well,
- 42:09Speaker 1: isn't she gay in the original? No, because in the
- 42:11Speaker 1: in the so in the basically when Sailor Moon. Can
- 42:15Speaker 1: you all can correct me on this, When Sailor Moon
- 42:17Speaker 1: came over to the US, they took out all of
- 42:19Speaker 1: the queer ship that was in the original. Yeah, Neptune
- 42:22Speaker 1: in Neptune and Uranus. Yeah, I'm sure it was Neptune
- 42:25Speaker 1: in Uranus um. But I remember like being totally like
- 42:30Speaker 1: sideswiped when someone told me that they was queer stuff
- 42:32Speaker 1: and sailone and I was like, no, there wasn't because
- 42:34Speaker 1: it's because of the way they dubbed it, which is like,
- 42:37Speaker 1: you know, a big conversation when it comes to anime
- 42:40Speaker 1: is like dubbing versus subbing, and like what gets lost
- 42:44Speaker 1: when you watch a dub version rather than the original,
- 42:47Speaker 1: which you should always watch the subs always, but even
- 42:51Speaker 1: then you might not be getting like the correct translation. Right, Yeah,
- 42:55Speaker 1: I feel like, Um, it's also like very funny and
- 42:57Speaker 1: obviously you know anime of files you should like slade
- 43:00Speaker 1: into ideas and provide more context. But like I do
- 43:02Speaker 1: think that, like it's funny that like Japan, like in
- 43:06Speaker 1: terms of like how um queer people are seen in
- 43:09Speaker 1: that society. Like it's it's actually like a super homophobic,
- 43:12Speaker 1: like very rigid kind of version that has really rich
- 43:15Speaker 1: like subcultures um in like where communities there, and yet
- 43:20Speaker 1: like Homo anime is so massily consumed and accepted in
- 43:26Speaker 1: a way that it's almost what in a way that
- 43:28Speaker 1: was like to you know, risque for American audiences, you
- 43:32Speaker 1: know what I mean. Um, but yeah, I would love
- 43:35Speaker 1: to if anybody has more context. Well, it's like I
- 43:38Speaker 1: guess like whenever you have a no Homo moment that
- 43:41Speaker 1: allows you to have all the homoments like, that's why
- 43:45Speaker 1: your ion ice can exist when like literally in the
- 43:48Speaker 1: first episode victors like naked in the Hot Spring is
- 43:51Speaker 1: like get in with me, but as long as you
- 43:53Speaker 1: don't see them kiss, it's fine. And sis straight women
- 43:56Speaker 1: like in who that consume anime? In Japan, the the
- 44:00Speaker 1: largest genre they read is gay anime. It's the same
- 44:04Speaker 1: male anime. Yeah right, we're right. What is the overlet there? Like?
- 44:07Speaker 1: What is that? Um? We could go a dangerous route
- 44:11Speaker 1: and let's do it touch on hintie. Oh, obviously we're
- 44:16Speaker 1: looking the iceberg. We're here the iceberg. Talking to one
- 44:22Speaker 1: of my really good friends the other day and we
- 44:24Speaker 1: had this moment. I don't remember why it got brought up.
- 44:27Speaker 1: He was like, have you ever seen Goblin Dungeon? Have
- 44:29Speaker 1: you is? Tell me this is not a hentie, tell
- 44:33Speaker 1: me this is not At this dark moment where we
- 44:36Speaker 1: both confessed that we've seen Goblin Dungeon, I don't remember
- 44:39Speaker 1: why I saw. It's basically, um, this video about these
- 44:43Speaker 1: really hot anime boys men and they go into this
- 44:47Speaker 1: cave to fight some goblins and the goblins end up
- 44:50Speaker 1: sucking them. I'm googling, right, you know, be careful you
- 44:54Speaker 1: look up on my heart WiFi, but listen, they will
- 44:59Speaker 1: do it. It's way words. Yeah, it's we're actually changing
- 45:03Speaker 1: the name of this podcast to Goblin. This goblin is
- 45:07Speaker 1: very hot. He's got jugs, he's going on big, he
- 45:10Speaker 1: does not skip chest a. There's a lot to take
- 45:12Speaker 1: in Goblin Dungeon. I would read the essay on Goblin Dungeon.
- 45:16Speaker 1: I would read the thesis. I honestly, I'm not ashamed
- 45:19Speaker 1: about the fact that I love HINTI porn. It's definitely
- 45:21Speaker 1: not like my first saying that I will, you know,
- 45:23Speaker 1: put in my on my my porn alt. Where's your
- 45:27Speaker 1: stripe on the flag? What are we adding to the
- 45:32Speaker 1: remote flag to make you feel? This is absolutely a
- 45:35Speaker 1: representation moment. This is a very important visibility for the
- 45:39Speaker 1: anime woman with huge jugs on top of No, I
- 45:43Speaker 1: love good NTI porn like. It's definitely follow a lot
- 45:45Speaker 1: of hint I accounts on my porn all. Do you
- 45:48Speaker 1: actually masturbate to it? Not? Usually, it's it's maybe like
- 45:53Speaker 1: it's more of an aesthetic appreciation seasonal once a quarter,
- 45:57Speaker 1: once every other quarter. I just find it like I
- 46:00Speaker 1: I mean, like I don't like engage with a lot
- 46:03Speaker 1: of porn that way, but when I do, like, I
- 46:05Speaker 1: kind of need them to be real people. I need
- 46:08Speaker 1: y'all to accept me in this moment. I do accept you, y'all.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Watch y'all watch like tune porn of any kind? Like
- 46:15Speaker 1: any sort of hint? Have y'all watched I have watched
- 46:18Speaker 1: tune porn historically, but it's not Have you watched the
- 46:22Speaker 1: one where Tarzan from Tarzan Fox Mila from Atlantis? That genre?
- 46:27Speaker 1: I've seen Flynn writer and um Kristof. Yes, I think
- 46:31Speaker 1: that might be. If you follow Mr x tune on Twitter,
- 46:35Speaker 1: I strongly recommend his stuff is very talented. His clips
- 46:39Speaker 1: are the clips are very shortott art. You should subscribe
- 46:41Speaker 1: to his patreon and get the full bid. There is
- 46:43Speaker 1: a really funny image of from Frozen of of Elsa,
- 46:52Speaker 1: Anna and Kristof in bed and Anna and Christoph for
- 46:55Speaker 1: having sex and her and Elsa are just holding hands.
- 47:01Speaker 1: It's so curse. What was so so funny? For some
- 47:04Speaker 1: reason that you were going to bring up bowl off
- 47:06Speaker 1: in that? I'm sure that exists. Oh yeah, for sure,
- 47:10Speaker 1: let me just google that Carrots there for a reason,
- 47:12Speaker 1: WiFi Rose, you are maybe the first and definitely primary
- 47:19Speaker 1: person to send me tune porn. Yeah, in earnest and
- 47:22Speaker 1: in a funny in a funny wrench porn. I've got
- 47:26Speaker 1: wicked porn. I love I love grand and the King
- 47:31Speaker 1: Triton porn. Actually, I feel like I sent that to you,
- 47:34Speaker 1: did send that to me, but I had already but
- 47:35Speaker 1: I had already seen it. This is the thing is
- 47:39Speaker 1: usually when Frand sends me something that is a really curse,
- 47:43Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm like, ah ha ha, but in reality,
- 47:46Speaker 1: you already have. I saved it to my camera. Like
- 47:49Speaker 1: five years ago. There's this the iPhone, the new iOS
- 47:54Speaker 1: has these little thing things called widgets, and you can
- 47:57Speaker 1: have this like fun with the day that it'll be
- 48:00Speaker 1: like it'll take like featured photos from like your camera
- 48:03Speaker 1: roll and like put it on your like homepage screen.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Very bad idea to do this for my phone, But
- 48:09Speaker 1: like the other day, it was like just King Triton's whole,
- 48:13Speaker 1: just like hole and balls, because I had it saved
- 48:16Speaker 1: my cameral the bottom No, no, no, I mean in
- 48:20Speaker 1: this image, he they're kind of painting him as this
- 48:23Speaker 1: big daddy bottom um. But no, I don't think Triton
- 48:26Speaker 1: is the bottom. No, no, no, I think he's maybe
- 48:28Speaker 1: a sub top poor unfortunate holes that was low hanging fruit.
- 48:34Speaker 1: We had to fight for Goblin Dungeon. Yes, this is
- 48:37Speaker 1: The's what I'm saying when I say representation, honor your
- 48:40Speaker 1: queer elders. Who brought you Goblin Dungeons? Yeah? Who's the
- 48:43Speaker 1: anime boy who you have the biggest crush on? Yeah? Yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 1: good question. I would have to really think about that one.
- 48:50Speaker 1: There's a lot of hot ones. I mean, like the
- 48:52Speaker 1: guy from kawee Bebop. Oh, yeah, he's gorgeous hot. They
- 48:56Speaker 1: all kind of like sometimes they start to look similar
- 48:59Speaker 1: with the big hair and like the Space person outfits
- 49:02Speaker 1: across different shows. But I know there's other ones. I
- 49:06Speaker 1: love Hako and Spirited Away. He's the dragon. I remember,
- 49:12Speaker 1: like when I first watched that, I was maybe in
- 49:14Speaker 1: fourth or fifth grade, and I didn't really grasp the
- 49:17Speaker 1: plot because you know, I had undiagnosed a d h D.
- 49:19Speaker 1: But I feel like I was just like here for
- 49:22Speaker 1: Hako and the fact that he turned into a dragon,
- 49:24Speaker 1: which is also hot. Turning into animals. Are dragons of
- 49:26Speaker 1: any kind hot babes? Yeah, yeah, I would love to.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I look for that in a man. It would be
- 49:31Speaker 1: a nice feature. Yeah, the animals. I want my next
- 49:34Speaker 1: boyfriend to be an animal. Just kidding, are you as
- 49:37Speaker 1: a man not a river spirit? Yeah? How dare you?
- 49:41Speaker 1: Spirited Away is so good? It's amazing. The food in
- 49:46Speaker 1: it looks so delicious. You know what one dark confession
- 49:49Speaker 1: I have is that I remember getting really titlated by
- 49:53Speaker 1: the voice acting on Spirit of the Cimarron. The horse.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Oh my god, what I'm going to I think it's
- 50:01Speaker 1: Matt Damon. Literally it's not. I believe it's Matt Damon.
- 50:04Speaker 1: They the people they get to dub. Some of Homie
- 50:07Speaker 1: Zaki's films is Aretes are hot, speak on that horses
- 50:13Speaker 1: are very hot, Housmanman Castle, Christian bale As Howl and
- 50:16Speaker 1: the Right. What are some of your favorite anime tropes?
- 50:32Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, um, I mean like the whole Young Today, Like, oh,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I'm a really hot girl and I'm mad but you
- 50:40Speaker 1: love me, but I'm going to punch you every now
- 50:42Speaker 1: and then. Like that's such a trope. I really enjoy
- 50:45Speaker 1: um because like and even Gellian, it's Oscar obviously, like
- 50:49Speaker 1: she has the red hair and she's German and she's
- 50:51Speaker 1: a bit, and she's like, I'm really good at piloting
- 50:53Speaker 1: this robot, your pathetic shinji. Like I love there's this
- 50:56Speaker 1: one meme account that tweets every Saturday, like alone the
- 51:00Speaker 1: Saturday Night pathetic. I love Oscar every Saturday night. Yeah,
- 51:07Speaker 1: I love the I love the villain be like Nanny. Um.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I think that maybe part of what attracted me to
- 51:15Speaker 1: the world outside of like the thing that you said
- 51:17Speaker 1: rose about, like the fact that every character is feminine
- 51:20Speaker 1: kind of was like the world building, you know, like
- 51:24Speaker 1: I was like a drawer and like love to like
- 51:27Speaker 1: doodle and like think of characters and like build things
- 51:31Speaker 1: that you know were existed like a part of a
- 51:34Speaker 1: larger ecosystem, which is why I love Lord of the Rings.
- 51:37Speaker 1: We all love Loved the Rings, Yes we do. Yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I think what you what you're touching on something is
- 51:41Speaker 1: like every time I've watched an anime, you feel very
- 51:44Speaker 1: dropped into the world. Um. And I I like stories
- 51:49Speaker 1: like that where um, they kind of take for granted
- 51:52Speaker 1: that you're smart enough to just sort of like pick
- 51:55Speaker 1: it up as you go along. Um And yeah, that
- 52:00Speaker 1: it's something that really works for me. I feel like
- 52:03Speaker 1: I do this exercise sometimes as like um with like
- 52:06Speaker 1: friends at parties or whatever, and I think we should
- 52:07Speaker 1: all do it now, Like, which pokemon are you do
- 52:11Speaker 1: most identify out in the original one fifty? Of course? Yeah,
- 52:16Speaker 1: I'm going to need some help with this because I
- 52:17Speaker 1: just don't know a lot of JP and I will
- 52:25Speaker 1: I personally, I mean, I would love to know you're
- 52:28Speaker 1: taking this. I feel sometimes like a pony Ta, like
- 52:33Speaker 1: not like fully grown, but kind of radica. But the
- 52:38Speaker 1: thing is like pony Ti is like not um like
- 52:41Speaker 1: clumsy enough. Like so I'm trying to like, I don't know,
- 52:44Speaker 1: there's like an anime that's maybe a little more interesting. Yeah, well,
- 52:49Speaker 1: I mean I don't think I'm like fully formed, you
- 52:52Speaker 1: know what I mean, has kind of the baby horse
- 52:54Speaker 1: kind of thing going on, but like aesthetically, I definitely
- 52:57Speaker 1: see it, especially now that you have the mullet. Yeah,
- 53:00Speaker 1: who social culturally? Like who is the most anxious pokemon?
- 53:03Speaker 1: Like what? Oh my god? No, there's so many other
- 53:06Speaker 1: so many anxious at that are having a bad time.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Let me say the whole thing Siduck is having headaches
- 53:15Speaker 1: all the time. Yeah, signifies mental health issues maybe um
- 53:20Speaker 1: um oh Voltar no, not Voltur the way, guess volt
- 53:26Speaker 1: all lives in peril that he's going to explode and die. Well,
- 53:29Speaker 1: the most depressing one is Cuban obviously, Yeah, because he
- 53:32Speaker 1: wears the skulls his mom's skull, his mom his dead
- 53:35Speaker 1: mom's skull. Does that mean every time that Cuban is born,
- 53:39Speaker 1: his mom dies? Yeah? I got it. And then like
- 53:42Speaker 1: they make a Disney Channel original movie about you know how,
- 53:44Speaker 1: like you know, as Christie Cross and Romano would say,
- 53:49Speaker 1: you know how in de Coms. There in Decoms the
- 53:52Speaker 1: mom is always dead like every well every Disney property,
- 53:56Speaker 1: like mom has to be dead. Yeah, twitches um um
- 54:00Speaker 1: every Markana? Oh wait was Mary kay and Ashley? Is
- 54:03Speaker 1: that Disney? No, well every Markaane Ashley movie. It's like
- 54:06Speaker 1: it's always a single dad, Right, that's true. I feel
- 54:10Speaker 1: like that. And then parent Trump Yeah okay, so JP,
- 54:12Speaker 1: what which Pokemon would you mean? Probably Gang Gang Hunter,
- 54:19Speaker 1: you give gang or Energy because very mischievous, probably one
- 54:22Speaker 1: of the like the most like smart to like to
- 54:26Speaker 1: see like incisive, like cerebral Pokemon cute. Yeah, and he's
- 54:31Speaker 1: basically the little Purple Devil. Yeah, he's or I would
- 54:36Speaker 1: say Dragon Night because that's he's a big boy. Well, yeah,
- 54:39Speaker 1: he's a big boy dragon. I. I do love Gratini
- 54:42Speaker 1: as well, a little like gay word gay work, I do.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I think I'm looking I think you're more dragon night. Yeah,
- 54:51Speaker 1: I see that, and like gangar maybe like when you
- 54:53Speaker 1: get a little Yes, yeah, I see dragon e very
- 54:59Speaker 1: like the softness. I remember being very tickled by the
- 55:02Speaker 1: existence of needle Queen and needle King. I was actually
- 55:07Speaker 1: needle Queen. Who's the who's the one that comes of
- 55:09Speaker 1: four needle Queen? There was a weird gender thing. I
- 55:13Speaker 1: was thinking about Rose for nit Arena because she's like
- 55:16Speaker 1: a poison type and and but she's cute. Those are
- 55:20Speaker 1: like those are like the tinx ones because there's an
- 55:22Speaker 1: no in an all an Okay, JP, which pokemon do
- 55:29Speaker 1: you think I am? Oh my gosh, okay. Well, and
- 55:32Speaker 1: if this feels like a read, it's going to be
- 55:34Speaker 1: a problem. The Queen, the Queen, Okay, the Queen nit
- 55:37Speaker 1: Arena does have big naturals. Wait, like, JP, I'm going
- 55:42Speaker 1: to give you nine tails because she's spooky. Oh yeah,
- 55:46Speaker 1: and she's you know, sextually. Yeah, I see that. Oh
- 55:50Speaker 1: she's like a little fox kind of moment. Yeah, Okay,
- 55:53Speaker 1: very mystical ethereal but bad luck as well. Oh really,
- 55:57Speaker 1: what's she's She's like a witch fox kind of thing.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Oh my god, obsessed? Yeah yeah, she's the fiercest one
- 56:06Speaker 1: other one. How do I make this my whole personality?
- 56:09Speaker 1: Some do? Yeah, Twitter dot com. It's actually like a
- 56:13Speaker 1: lot of game in whose whole thing is just like Pokemon.
- 56:15Speaker 1: Ever knows that? Yeah? Or you know what Rose? Maybe
- 56:18Speaker 1: article know? Oh well, but okay, I'm also thinking about
- 56:22Speaker 1: Rose as a cancer and like her her like because
- 56:25Speaker 1: I feel like you're the first impression Rose gives is
- 56:27Speaker 1: usually like a fire type or a poison type, down down,
- 56:30Speaker 1: deep down, Rose, U are water, yes or maybe psychic?
- 56:36Speaker 1: But not Jinks? Who is canceled? Question Mark? It's it's
- 56:40Speaker 1: interesting to me. Have we had the Jinks reckoning yet
- 56:42Speaker 1: Jinks I think was canceled and because they reanimated her
- 56:45Speaker 1: without the kind of black face thing that's going on
- 56:48Speaker 1: with her as a Pokemon probably for the best, definitely,
- 56:52Speaker 1: and maybe vapourion or like a Lapris. Okay, the thing
- 56:56Speaker 1: about Lapris is she's sensitives stickle um hard to get
- 57:02Speaker 1: to know, Like, she's kind of the isn't she like
- 57:04Speaker 1: the locknest monster kind of Pokemon where she is like
- 57:09Speaker 1: never ever seen, but she has this like exterior shell
- 57:13Speaker 1: that is also like big on decase I want to
- 57:16Speaker 1: get you in trouble. Who's your least favorite Pokemon of
- 57:19Speaker 1: the mine? I mean maybe like like side Duck or
- 57:24Speaker 1: ditto side Duck. I don't like Side Up. He's incompetent,
- 57:28Speaker 1: but I guess he is kind of one of the
- 57:30Speaker 1: most powerful ones. No, he's not. He's well, he doesn't.
- 57:33Speaker 1: He's a He's a nice little boy with a headache. Okay, honestly,
- 57:38Speaker 1: looking at side Duck, fran I think you might be.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I think how accurate that is. He's always worrying about
- 57:48Speaker 1: I've definitely seen like when we're on vacation and you
- 57:51Speaker 1: and I see you like making coffee in the morning.
- 57:54Speaker 1: It's a little side uck energy. But I'm trying to
- 57:57Speaker 1: create an itinerary for our vacation, and I'm like like
- 58:01Speaker 1: clutching my head and being like, come on, there's so
- 58:04Speaker 1: much to extract about, Like how you know, like animal culture,
- 58:09Speaker 1: tune culture is like part of it, because like if
- 58:11Speaker 1: you bring up Pokemon in any scenario of people of
- 58:14Speaker 1: our age, we'll start talking about it again or like
- 58:16Speaker 1: or like Kingdom Hearts or oh my god, Kingdom was
- 58:20Speaker 1: just added to Smash Actually, oh yeah, isn't she isn't
- 58:23Speaker 1: she the last person? Oh? Really? Oh my gosh there yeah. Yeah.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Kingdom Hearts is the one where it's like all the
- 58:32Speaker 1: different characters from all the different things together the funniest
- 58:35Speaker 1: video game ever made, because it's like, it's these anime
- 58:38Speaker 1: characters and they've infiltrated the world of Disney sort of,
- 58:41Speaker 1: so they have to fight in different Disney themed worlds.
- 58:44Speaker 1: So it's like Donald Duck and Goofy interacting with these
- 58:48Speaker 1: anime kids and they have to go to like a
- 58:50Speaker 1: Toy story world where this anime villain has stolen buzz
- 58:53Speaker 1: Lightyear and they have to fight with Woody to get
- 58:55Speaker 1: him back. Interesting, Okay, there are some credible There is
- 59:01Speaker 1: a there is a clip where Goofy dies and um,
- 59:05Speaker 1: Mickey Mouse and Sara and Donald Duck have to abandon
- 59:08Speaker 1: the corpse to continue fighting whatever like villains they're fighting,
- 59:12Speaker 1: and Mickey Mouse like, they'll pay for this. Well, sometimes
- 59:16Speaker 1: you have to leave Goofy for dead and move on.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Mickey Mouse has a sword. By the way, Goofy is
- 59:22Speaker 1: the weak link. Unfortunately he's he's he's a nice himbo
- 59:26Speaker 1: in that game. He's got his shield and he's really dumb,
- 59:30Speaker 1: and Donald is the Mage. So it follows like these
- 59:33Speaker 1: like um role play tropes where there's the Healer and
- 59:37Speaker 1: there's the Warrior and there's the Wizard and all these
- 59:41Speaker 1: Disney characters have to kind of fall into it because
- 59:44Speaker 1: you know we're playing. Did you ever get into some
- 59:48Speaker 1: dungeons and dragons everything? I just know that if I start,
- 59:51Speaker 1: it will become at least a fourth of my personality
- 59:55Speaker 1: that I can't let that happen to me. I only
- 59:57Speaker 1: have so many I don't I don't want that to have.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I want you to have a life. Thank you. Yeah.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Like I've purposely avoided it, not because I don't think
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I would like it, but because I know I would
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: like it and it's it's too much. But also like
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: if you want to take that ride, I will chase
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: that dragon with Yeah. That that is why I had
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: to avoid you and magic cards growing up. You seem
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: to have quite an important relationship with mew two. Yeah
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: you do, Yes, prominent Mexican American mewtwo. Um, I love
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: mew two. I think he's so funny. The idea of
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: mewtwo is hilarious to me. What about the idea of
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: mewtwo the thick thighs, I thought you were going to
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: I thought you're gonna be like, you know, evil old. Well,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: like the fact that he would like immediately upon birth,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: he was like, why did you do this to me?
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: And like killed everything? It was responsible. I think that's funny. Yeah,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: that he was relatable. Yeah, born into the world, Let
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: me destroy the planet and how dare you do this
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: to me? Bring me into existence? Okay, I did watch
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Detective Pikachu though, and Mew two isn't evil and right,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: oh he's not. He's the victim. Well, mew two exists
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: in a lot of different canons, I think, and like
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: in the actual games, he's just sort of another legendary Pokemon.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Only in that movie is he this like conniving mastermind.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: He the clones all the Pokemon and can make storms
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: happen with his brain and it's it's quite camp. Actually,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: that movie is amazing, and he's so powerful and the
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: only thing that can destroy him is his Twink counterpart.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: That's right. Well, And also it must be said that
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Herman Kane plagiarize MEW two. Really, yes, I didn't know
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: that Herman Kane, who is dead now um plagiarized in
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: a political speech MEW two speech at the end where
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: when he has his realization about it doesn't matter about
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: the origins or the circumstances of your birth. What matters
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: is what you do with the gift of life, and
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that is what Herman Kane stole. And then later everyone
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: was like, did you just steal MW two heading? She's everywhere?
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: And then then you two killed him. There we go rightfully.
