- 1:36Speaker 1: Who cares as long as long as you turn on
- 1:40Speaker 1: those notifications?
- 1:41Speaker 3: Okay, uh uh uh oh oh my oh this is
- 1:50Speaker 3: not the Demon Smart episode, which, mind you, it's still
- 1:52Speaker 3: the most listened episode of the pod as of late
- 1:55Speaker 3: within the last month or two.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And I'm just like, does that mean I need to
- 2:01Speaker 2: do more smut episodes? Because I will because I have
- 2:06Speaker 2: a plethora, So like, let me know, do you want
- 2:10Speaker 2: more smut because I'll do it.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Anyway. We've definitely talted that kind of audience.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think we did.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Sure.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Data attracted a certain audience with that one, and it's
- 2:26Speaker 2: still on the different mhm.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I need to read. I need to borrow your copy
- 2:33Speaker 1: of that book just to read, just to read it.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Oh mm hmmm, yes, most most definitely I have them.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I have two of them. I think Johnny has all
- 2:45Speaker 2: three of them. Oh yeah, we'll let you. We'll let
- 2:47Speaker 2: you borrow because they're my personal thing. I just love
- 2:50Speaker 2: the hierarchy of hell. Well, listen to episode the episodes
- 2:53Speaker 2: and during I think it's like the last episode we
- 2:57Speaker 2: different Pride month. But it's a fun, it's a fun reading. Anyway,
- 3:02Speaker 2: today we're going to continue on with our Halloween month
- 3:06Speaker 2: of horror ooky spoogy, so to spooky spooky. So today
- 3:13Speaker 2: I am doing I am doing a book. I wrote
- 3:18Speaker 2: a book. No I didn't. I can't write it. Can
- 3:20Speaker 2: you imagine writing a book?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Me writing a book? Anything? Is?
- 3:26Speaker 2: I still need to get that copy, buy me a copy,
- 3:30Speaker 2: and buy you a copy so we can read it
- 3:33Speaker 2: and review it. It's on my list of things to do.
- 3:37Speaker 2: They haven't gone round to it. But as my little
- 3:39Speaker 2: the love of my life has written a book. Link
- 3:41Speaker 2: for that will be a description below. Actually good buy
- 3:44Speaker 2: his book. It's OK, spooky and kooky.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Stut that out. We don't want to get copy reading.
- 3:55Speaker 2: The book we're doing, or the book I'm talking about today,
- 3:58Speaker 2: is part of a series that I've already done. The
- 4:01Speaker 2: first two books. The first book was What Wakes the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Dead and what in the second one, What Feasts at Night?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Pulled up. You would think I would memorize all these.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I was fine. I have a hard time remembering all
- 4:21Speaker 1: of the Dungeony Caller books. There's seven so far, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: seventh book just came out, and yes one, but I
- 4:30Speaker 1: hope not I mean if it is great, Like I mean,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I just hope it's like that that kind of finale
- 4:36Speaker 1: we're looking for, because this is like we're gonna be
- 4:37Speaker 1: on their book seven is starting floor nine, which is
- 4:41Speaker 1: the Faction Wars, and like you know, they're like spoiler, spoiler, spoilers.
- 4:48Speaker 1: It's gonna be lit. That's not much of a spoiler,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but it's gonna be lit. I'm not gonna give a lot.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm not gonna give anything away, but like the ending
- 4:56Speaker 1: of books six, well like like left us on a
- 5:01Speaker 1: bit of a cliffhanger, and there's like gonna be a
- 5:04Speaker 1: lot of like extra characters coming in. You know, they
- 5:08Speaker 1: find they've like, okay, here's like here's a spoiler for you.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Faction Wars is like involving like actual like non Crawler NPCs.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So like these guys are from like the Syndicate, like
- 5:22Speaker 1: different Syndicate races coming in and they're gonna be like
- 5:26Speaker 1: they're gonna be killing the Crawlers, trying to enslave them
- 5:28Speaker 1: in their factions. But Carl and don't have their own
- 5:31Speaker 1: faction now, and there's gonna be a whole lot. It's
- 5:34Speaker 1: just oh, it's just it's a. It's it's gonna be climactic,
- 5:38Speaker 1: that's what it's gonna be.
- 5:42Speaker 2: So far, there are seven books for it, and I
- 5:45Speaker 2: guess it's stop. I don't know. I guess you said
- 5:50Speaker 2: that he for the series. He planned for the series
- 5:53Speaker 2: to spaned ten books, but nothing is set in stone,
- 5:55Speaker 2: and that was way four. I don't know if he's
- 5:58Speaker 2: if seven's the last one, or if it's going to
- 6:00Speaker 2: continue anyways. Uh So the books I was looking for,
- 6:05Speaker 2: So the first book, What What Moves the Dead? That
- 6:07Speaker 2: was the retelling of the House of Fall, the House
- 6:10Speaker 2: of us shirt dealing with fungus corus apps so acyndient corcep.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And then of course the next one was What Feasts
- 6:20Speaker 2: at Night, and that one's dealing with a ghost, a
- 6:24Speaker 2: more Morari, which is a vampire, vampiric ghost that's in
- 6:32Speaker 2: Romanian folklore. So that was the first two books, which
- 6:35Speaker 2: the episodes for those, or the numbers for those will
- 6:38Speaker 2: be in the scripture. Well if you want to go
- 6:40Speaker 2: listen to those two first two episodes before going over
- 6:44Speaker 2: to this one. I love this series so much, it's
- 6:50Speaker 2: one of my faves. And when I found out they
- 6:51Speaker 2: were making a third one, this year. I'm like, oh bitch,
- 6:56Speaker 2: fuck me. Uh, I'm ready give it to me.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I love this shit.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So this is part of the Swan Soldier Sworn Swan
- 7:07Speaker 2: Sworn Soldier series. This book three is by of course,
- 7:11Speaker 2: it's called What Stalks the Deep, and it's by T. Kingfisher,
- 7:16Speaker 2: which is a pen name for the author What's your Name?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Ursula Vernon? Ursla Vernon is her own name, but she
- 7:27Speaker 2: goes by T. King Fisher for these books and a
- 7:30Speaker 2: few other series that she does, like the Darker. So
- 7:34Speaker 2: this book was released on September thirtieth of this year,
- 7:38Speaker 2: so it's fairly new. No no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 7:43Speaker 2: no no. So we follow again for this book, and
- 7:48Speaker 2: of course this books a very short, like it's like
- 7:50Speaker 2: the first two, You're not very long. It's a novella, horror,
- 7:54Speaker 2: no novella. So in this one, yeah, so this one
- 8:00Speaker 2: we follow our soldier main character, and Alex Easton and
- 8:05Speaker 2: Agnes who angus sorry not Agnes, Oh my god, wrong, wrong, hag.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yeah, no, we don't know. Yes is not allowed in
- 8:16Speaker 1: this podcast.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I'm not, I'm not. And they for for this one,
- 8:26Speaker 2: they're traveling to America for the first time. Compared to
- 8:29Speaker 2: their home country is very strange to them on the
- 8:32Speaker 2: customs and all America is and how everyone's so friendly,
- 8:38Speaker 2: and it's like they really they really drive up the whole.
- 8:41Speaker 2: They're from Europe and the customs over here are weird.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Like they like to make a point in the book
- 8:47Speaker 2: that Alex finds it very bizarre that people shake hands,
- 8:53Speaker 2: that that's a sign up, like a greeting, and it's
- 8:55Speaker 2: very weird to them, and it's like that's strange, and
- 8:59Speaker 2: I'm like, uh interesting. I mean, I guess it is
- 9:03Speaker 2: strange because Americans, well as an American, if you're from
- 9:08Speaker 2: the outside coming over here, depending on what part of
- 9:10Speaker 2: the country you're in, it's gonna be very weird. Some Yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 2: if you go to the North, it's very people are like,
- 9:17Speaker 2: don't fuck with me, don't look at me, my drunk
- 9:20Speaker 2: fucking business. Well, people in the South are more I
- 9:26Speaker 2: guess I mean Southern hospitality, But at the same time
- 9:29Speaker 2: they're also depending on where you are in the South,
- 9:34Speaker 2: be wary. South is a whole nother back of worms
- 9:38Speaker 2: at the southerner Texas, I mean, do you consider Texas
- 9:42Speaker 2: a southern state?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yes, is a southern state.
- 9:49Speaker 2: There are some people that don't consider Texas as a
- 9:51Speaker 2: Southern state.
- 9:53Speaker 1: We were literally a part. Yeah, Like Texas was one
- 9:58Speaker 1: of the biggest contributors in the war. Yeah, they were
- 10:02Speaker 1: part of the of the Confederates.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Yeah, compare, but people compare. People like compared Texas to
- 10:09Speaker 2: like Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee. It's not really the same
- 10:13Speaker 2: as totally different, but like it's not really the South.
- 10:16Speaker 2: But I'm like it is to a degree.
- 10:18Speaker 1: It is, it is. It is. The thing is is
- 10:21Speaker 1: that like you can't really compare Southern like Texas is
- 10:26Speaker 1: like in the far west of the Southern states. Like
- 10:29Speaker 1: like when back in the day when the Confederate Nation,
- 10:32Speaker 1: like when the Confederates was formed, Yeah, you had like Tennessee,
- 10:35Speaker 1: you had like you know, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Florida,
- 10:41Speaker 1: all those states that were part of the of the
- 10:44Speaker 1: of the Confederate Union. All right, Texas was one of them.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And like, but the thing is, you can't compare Texas,
- 10:52Speaker 1: which was like the furthest Confederate state to the west,
- 10:56Speaker 1: to like North or South Carolina, which were the furthest
- 10:58Speaker 1: Confederate states to the east. You can't really do that.
- 11:02Speaker 1: That's like comparing people from New York to people in California.
- 11:07Speaker 1: There's like two separate cultures right there. So Texas is
- 11:10Speaker 1: a southern state, Okay, I mean, hell we have like hell,
- 11:14Speaker 1: we're like we're the wild West. Okay, all right, we're
- 11:20Speaker 1: the ones like, Yeah, you go to Montana, and that's
- 11:22Speaker 1: where you get like a lot of like the like
- 11:24Speaker 1: the more like ooh like rancher. Like you got a
- 11:28Speaker 1: lot of ranchers out there in cowboys. But Texas has
- 11:30Speaker 1: cowboys too. All right. We got our cowboys too. We
- 11:34Speaker 1: got our Southern folk. We got our Southern folk here
- 11:36Speaker 1: who loved sipping sweet tea on a cool on a
- 11:39Speaker 1: cool Sunday morning or on a hot Sunday morning. All Right.
- 11:44Speaker 1: We may not be like the Southern, we may not
- 11:46Speaker 1: be like the Southerners in North Carolina, but we are
- 11:48Speaker 1: still Southerners, all right. Can you honestly say if you
- 11:53Speaker 1: go to North Carolina and compare them, can you can
- 11:56Speaker 1: say that the Southerners in North Carolina are the same
- 11:58Speaker 1: as the Southerners in Florida. No, Yeah, so you can't. Yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 1: so you can't really say that the Southerners in in
- 12:06Speaker 1: North Carolina or Georgia are the same as the Southerners
- 12:09Speaker 1: in Texas.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I mean, we still have Southern.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Culture here, but it's different, it's a different it's.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Different depending on what part of the state you're in.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like in Texas is the second largest state
- 12:20Speaker 1: in this in the country. Okay. We literally got four,
- 12:24Speaker 1: like four or five different like biospheres here. So depending
- 12:29Speaker 1: on which part of the state you're in, it's it's
- 12:31Speaker 1: going to be different, all right. You got you got
- 12:33Speaker 1: the desert and dust folk like all the way up
- 12:35Speaker 1: in like the West Texas because that's where all like
- 12:37Speaker 1: the you know, that's where the desert is. You got
- 12:40Speaker 1: the swamp people that in like the in the east,
- 12:43Speaker 1: you got like all right, because like you go you
- 12:46Speaker 1: go to East Texas, you got river you got riverlands,
- 12:49Speaker 1: you got swamps. Bayous, yeah, we do got bayous here.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You go to Houston and you got like the coastal
- 12:54Speaker 1: people there. And yes, Houston does have a port. It does.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It is all on the ocean, all right, we got
- 13:00Speaker 1: a we do gotta bay of Houston. Galveston is a
- 13:03Speaker 1: is a port city, all right. Corpus Christi, then San Antonio,
- 13:07Speaker 1: Mexicans yeah, yeah, coming coming from a Hispanic dude because
- 13:14Speaker 1: I am I am Mexican descent. So all right, you
- 13:18Speaker 1: come to San Antonio, a.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Man, do they make some bomb ass food though?
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:28Speaker 2: Sorry, some of the bomb ass foods here well. As
- 13:31Speaker 2: a h someone says, oh, you want to go to
- 13:34Speaker 2: a Mexican restaurant, I'm like, oh, I'm already there, tell
- 13:36Speaker 2: me where I'll go because I love Mexican food. H
- 13:39Speaker 2: m hm, bomb ass food.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And then you go to Austin and you got to Californians.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Pretty much mm hmm pretty much. So, but yeah, no,
- 13:53Speaker 2: I agree that Texas southern state. It's like saying like
- 13:56Speaker 2: Florida is not a southern state. There's there there are
- 13:58Speaker 2: people that say Florida is not. And I'm just like,
- 14:01Speaker 2: have you seen those crackheads as a Floridian as someone
- 14:06Speaker 2: who was born in Florida? People down there are crazy.
- 14:10Speaker 2: They're a whole nother level. Look crazy. You're gonna tell
- 14:13Speaker 2: me that's not southern, girl, southern, You're only as southern
- 14:18Speaker 2: as the crackhead down the street. Okay, And they.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Have they're they're just trying to gate keep. They're just
- 14:24Speaker 1: trying to gate keep because like oh, like basically saying
- 14:27Speaker 1: like like, oh, like I'm more Southern than you because
- 14:30Speaker 1: I have a more Southern accent, okay, okay, or like
- 14:35Speaker 1: oh because we go to like we like actually have
- 14:39Speaker 1: traditional values here, like so do we.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But yeah, but how are those traditional values fairing for you,
- 14:46Speaker 2: my love?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Like you're not great, Like we're southern because we marry
- 14:51Speaker 1: our cousins, like not the cousin sweet Home, Malabama.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Oh god, oh god, that's right.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so America is yeah, it is sweet, Like you know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: it's funny, like Americans have like a certain level of
- 15:09Speaker 1: pride for our country, but at the same time, no
- 15:11Speaker 1: one hates America more than Americans.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Period period. I don't know what people think, the idea
- 15:17Speaker 2: that the world that outside the United States everyone thinks
- 15:20Speaker 2: that Americans is so prideful. They're like, oh, we love America,
- 15:24Speaker 2: we do, but then at the same time, we fucking
- 15:28Speaker 2: hate it.
- 15:29Speaker 1: We hate it.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Dumpster fire with a Gucci belt. It's not even a
- 15:33Speaker 2: Gucci belt anymore. It's a half priced good Will belt
- 15:36Speaker 2: that you find the back.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Like if you like, if you get in a car
- 15:39Speaker 1: accident here, you better hope you die, because like the
- 15:42Speaker 1: the ambulance. Pride is gonna cost you like the price
- 15:45Speaker 1: of a new car, exactly like it's a it's a
- 15:49Speaker 1: thousand dollars to get a ride, like on an ambulance
- 15:54Speaker 1: to the hospital, and then it's gonna probably be it's
- 15:57Speaker 1: probably gonna cost you another ten grand and if the
- 16:00Speaker 1: teen grand to get the like to get the medical
- 16:02Speaker 1: treatment for like whatever happened. So if you get you
- 16:06Speaker 1: get in a car wreck, you better hope it kills you.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Or if anything, you're at least in a blue state,
- 16:13Speaker 2: that might not be as bad. If you're in a
- 16:15Speaker 2: red state, You're fucked. You're fucked. You're fun You're really fucked.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You're fucked. You're fucked.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And guess what, I live in a red state.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I'm fucked.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I've always lived. I've had realization the other day. I
- 16:27Speaker 2: know this is really off topic. I've always lived in
- 16:30Speaker 2: the red state for the majority of my life, and
- 16:33Speaker 2: all my life Florida, Tennessee, Texas. I lived in Illinois
- 16:38Speaker 2: for a short time. I really don't count that because
- 16:40Speaker 2: I spent more time in Tennessee, Florida and in Texas.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I've only lived there. I've only was like a
- 16:49Speaker 1: private like I was. I was only a resident of
- 16:52Speaker 1: three different Southern states, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida. I lived
- 16:58Speaker 1: in that since most of my life. I've lived in
- 17:02Speaker 1: Mississippi for about like five six years, and I lived
- 17:05Speaker 1: in Florida for two years. And I mean I've visited
- 17:09Speaker 1: other states. Like I'm pretty well traveled at least within
- 17:12Speaker 1: the US, and like I've been to like outside of
- 17:15Speaker 1: the US. Doesn't really count because it's Puerto Rico. It's
- 17:18Speaker 1: its own country, but it's a territory of the US.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So like you don't really need a passport to go
- 17:23Speaker 1: to if you're an American citizen, you don't need a
- 17:25Speaker 1: passport to go to Puerto Rico. Yeah, like get on
- 17:29Speaker 1: a plane, go there and just you know, enjoy the island.
- 17:32Speaker 1: But like I've been to plenty of other states Tennessee,
- 17:37Speaker 1: I've been to the Carolinas. I've been to Illinois, New York.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I've been to California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, pretty much
- 17:47Speaker 1: all of like most of most of not all of
- 17:49Speaker 1: the Southern states, even if it's just in passing because
- 17:52Speaker 1: like you know, what if going back from Florida to Texas,
- 17:56Speaker 1: like going between Florida and Texas, you have to like,
- 17:59Speaker 1: if you're dry, I think you're passing through Louisiana, you're
- 18:02Speaker 1: passing through Mississippi, Alabama, and then finally into Florida. Never
- 18:07Speaker 1: actually been to Georgia, but I've driven through South and
- 18:11Speaker 1: North Carolina to get to Tennessee from Florida, and I'm
- 18:16Speaker 1: pretty sure I've driven through several other states when I
- 18:18Speaker 1: was younger, when when I first visited New York. And
- 18:20Speaker 1: I'm not just talking when I'm saying New York, I'm
- 18:23Speaker 1: not just talking about the city, Like I didn't actually
- 18:25Speaker 1: go to man like New York City Manhattan until this
- 18:30Speaker 1: past year, but like it. Yeah, But as a kid,
- 18:35Speaker 1: my dad had family up in like upstate New York.
- 18:39Speaker 1: So for those of you who are overseas, there's New
- 18:41Speaker 1: York the city, and then there's New York the state.
- 18:44Speaker 1: So New York the state will not the largest state
- 18:46Speaker 1: in the US. It's still a state of its own,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and there are people who live out who do exist
- 18:51Speaker 1: outside of the city itself in like the actual state,
- 18:55Speaker 1: but most of the state is like farmland. So my
- 19:00Speaker 1: dad's family had farm, like actually had a farm up
- 19:02Speaker 1: in like upstate New York near Syracruse or something. I
- 19:05Speaker 1: don't remember where it was, but we actually visited the farm.
- 19:08Speaker 1: But by then my dad's grandparents, my great grandparents, had
- 19:11Speaker 1: already retired and sold off all of their cattle because
- 19:13Speaker 1: they were cattle farmers. But they still had like the equipment,
- 19:17Speaker 1: the silos, everything, so they showed me everything. But yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and I got as close to Canada. The furthest north
- 19:24Speaker 1: I've been is Canada. The further south in the US
- 19:26Speaker 1: excluding Puerto Rico was Keys.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So the point of the conversation, you may hate America,
- 19:35Speaker 2: but trust we hate it more. M we hate it more.
- 19:39Speaker 2: We hate it here and we're stuck on this roller coaster.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Mm hmm. You get like you get in topic between
- 19:45Speaker 1: like like Texas. You like, in Texas alone, we have
- 19:48Speaker 1: a lot of gripes with like different like not only
- 19:50Speaker 1: within our own state but with other states. Right, Like
- 19:54Speaker 1: we get we a lot of like like really hardcore
- 19:57Speaker 1: Texans laying the state of our housing market on people
- 20:01Speaker 1: coming moving in from California because people from California they're like, well,
- 20:05Speaker 1: we hate it. They hate it there because like there's
- 20:08Speaker 1: just the price to live there is just so ridiculously
- 20:12Speaker 1: high that a lot of people are just it's just
- 20:14Speaker 1: a mass exodus out of California to the states with
- 20:18Speaker 1: cheaper housing. And unfortunately, Texas has some of the cheapest
- 20:21Speaker 1: housing in the US. You may think that's a good thing,
- 20:24Speaker 1: but no, it's not because other people are from other
- 20:26Speaker 1: states are seeing that they're coming here, and well, realatures,
- 20:32Speaker 1: they're seeing all these people coming from different states with
- 20:34Speaker 1: all this other big state money, right, people from California
- 20:38Speaker 1: coming in with that California money, and they're like, oh,
- 20:40Speaker 1: you know what, We're going to inflict prices of housing.
- 20:45Speaker 1: So now housing like for just a simple like three
- 20:48Speaker 1: bedroom house can be in the upper one hundred thousands,
- 20:53Speaker 1: like one hundred thousand dollars for a simple little house.
- 20:55Speaker 1: My own mother's house, which is like honestly, like I
- 20:58Speaker 1: love my mom, but her house is and is located
- 21:01Speaker 1: in like a ghetto and a very old housing, like
- 21:03Speaker 1: a very whold neighborhood. And it's not a nice house.
- 21:07Speaker 1: It's very it's very old. It's starting to fall apart.
- 21:09Speaker 1: When she bought it, it was like she paid like
- 21:11Speaker 1: eighty five thousand for it for a simple house, and
- 21:16Speaker 1: it's it's very simple it's old, it's outdated. It's not
- 21:18Speaker 1: it doesn't have up to date like it's it's kind
- 21:21Speaker 1: of behind on its code. So she still has to
- 21:24Speaker 1: she's still trying to bring it up to code. And
- 21:27Speaker 1: that thing is worth eighty like eighty gram. She managed
- 21:31Speaker 1: to get the like negotiate the price down to seventy five,
- 21:34Speaker 1: but on a market it was like eighty eighty five
- 21:36Speaker 1: thousand for a simple little three bedroom house.
- 21:42Speaker 2: My love, did you go downstairs and open versity? There's
- 21:46Speaker 2: a pack.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Ooh. Look. So anyway, we just segued from talking about
- 21:58Speaker 1: a book to talking about us politics. Yeah, even though
- 22:04Speaker 1: like literally like last our last episode, I went on
- 22:07Speaker 1: a rant about how much I hate politics? How can
- 22:11Speaker 1: you talking about politics? Talking about like the tea about politics,
- 22:16Speaker 1: like you know, just say talking about the tea about it.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But like when we get into like actual political topics,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I'm like, don't hate it.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Look at that man. Look at that man right there.
- 22:29Speaker 2: That's a beautiful man.
- 22:31Speaker 1: What man?
- 22:31Speaker 2: But the real here? M hmm, that's what the yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 2: that's what the cat beautiful man. I guess it's high
- 22:47Speaker 2: is high? Anyway back on topic because I got sidetracked.
- 22:53Speaker 1: You get tracked very easily in this house.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Yeah, about to say you do too?
- 23:01Speaker 1: What? Nahcuse me, excuse you?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Can I help you? That's gross? Clear her ears? God,
- 23:12Speaker 2: that's nasty because she likes you doing it, and I don't.
- 23:17Speaker 2: I don't want to bite me. Yes, she does anyway.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So back on topic of the book.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Again.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Now we well, she doesn't clean her she can't clean
- 23:31Speaker 2: her ears that well, or she doesn't for whatever reason.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Her ears get a lot of gunk in them, and
- 23:37Speaker 2: we have to We have like certain wives that we
- 23:40Speaker 2: have to use the basically clean out her ears. I
- 23:42Speaker 2: don't do it. I don't trust that cat. She's gonna
- 23:45Speaker 2: kill me. So Jianne clips her nails and does that,
- 23:49Speaker 2: and I just feed her. I helped feed her and
- 23:52Speaker 2: do her cat letter. She likes you doing it. I
- 23:57Speaker 2: don't trust her with me doing it. I don't want
- 23:59Speaker 2: to hurt her. I'm afraid to hurt my little baby,
- 24:01Speaker 2: my little baby girl. Anyway, So they're coming to America.
- 24:08Speaker 2: They see the view as very strange the customs in
- 24:12Speaker 2: the culture here, which is fair because we are a
- 24:14Speaker 2: fucking weird place to be so. And the reason they
- 24:19Speaker 2: came was for Alex's friend doctor Denton, which is the
- 24:24Speaker 2: scientist from the first book. Now he was a guy,
- 24:28Speaker 2: a character that was in the first book with the
- 24:30Speaker 2: whole Courtycep followed the house of Usher, sentient Courcep taking
- 24:34Speaker 2: over a woman's body, replacing her. Yeah, he was. He
- 24:38Speaker 2: was there for all of them. So he sent Alex
- 24:42Speaker 2: a telegram about how his cousin Oscar disappeared in one
- 24:49Speaker 2: of the minds in West Virginia. And if you don't
- 24:52Speaker 2: know where West Virginia is, let me tell you. Let
- 24:56Speaker 2: me tell you. Shut West Virginia is in the it's
- 24:59Speaker 2: in right smack in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains
- 25:04Speaker 2: or Appalachian, Appalachian, Appalachian, whichever way you pronounce it, because.
- 25:10Speaker 1: The proper way is Appalachian.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I've heard people call Appalachian. I have old people call Appalachian.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Appalacin.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's weird. That one doesn't make sense.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Because if you go if you google it, the proper
- 25:28Speaker 1: the proper pronunciation is Appalachia Appalachia, but not Appalachian like
- 25:35Speaker 1: with this s h like, it's appala like hard h,
- 25:40Speaker 1: not soft h.
- 25:44Speaker 2: These mountains are old, some of the oldest on the earth,
- 25:49Speaker 2: older than the rockies. These mountains have weird ship in them.
- 25:57Speaker 2: You ever live in the mountains, you ever live in
- 25:59Speaker 2: those mountains, yell? Because I have, and we could tell
- 26:03Speaker 2: you being in being in Tennessee, you learn some things.
- 26:07Speaker 2: You hear your voice when you're walking around the woods
- 26:08Speaker 2: in the mountains. So you didn't you hear a whistle
- 26:11Speaker 2: at night? No, you didn't. If you hear rustling in
- 26:14Speaker 2: the trees, keep walking, don't look up, dope. And you
- 26:18Speaker 2: may be thinking, oh, something that's just all superstition. Something
- 26:21Speaker 2: is but that. But in superstition, there's always some truth there.
- 26:25Speaker 2: There's some old ship in those mountains that you don't
- 26:28Speaker 2: fuck with. And even if it's not creepy supernatural ship,
- 26:33Speaker 2: it's still animals. And that ship's so weird and creepy
- 26:37Speaker 2: because it's because that mountain range as old as fuck before.
- 26:41Speaker 2: That thing was around millions of years before humanity was
- 26:44Speaker 2: so but it's they're in West Virginia. The goal is
- 26:49Speaker 2: to go to West Virginia to this mine and to
- 26:53Speaker 2: find his cousin Oscar. Now, the mine's name was the
- 26:58Speaker 2: mine's name.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Mine.
- 27:06Speaker 2: That's the that's the mind that they they were, that
- 27:08Speaker 2: they're going to so basically from there they also mate
- 27:14Speaker 2: a man named John Ingold, and John Ingold, the way
- 27:18Speaker 2: he's describing the book is heavily implied that he's a
- 27:23Speaker 2: Navy that he is a native Native American, which I
- 27:28Speaker 2: mean in that region, you're gonna you're gonna find the name,
- 27:33Speaker 2: especially in Balacha, It's gonna gonna be there. We're gonna
- 27:37Speaker 2: be there. Oh, John Ingold is a Native, is a
- 27:41Speaker 2: Native American. And they make a real good point to
- 27:45Speaker 2: describe that and the whole when they start learning about
- 27:48Speaker 2: the superstitions on dealing with the mountain range and John
- 27:54Speaker 2: Ingold's the course is just like, yeah, there's a lot
- 27:55Speaker 2: of creepy shipping there. Like there's a lot of weird
- 27:59Speaker 2: shipping there, because I mean, if you want to hear
- 28:01Speaker 2: some legends and some stories, talk to a native in
- 28:04Speaker 2: that in those mountains, in those mountains, they'll they'll tell
- 28:07Speaker 2: you everything.
- 28:08Speaker 1: They'll give you the tea.
- 28:10Speaker 2: They'll give you the fucking tea. Because so they all
- 28:16Speaker 2: meet our restaurant and they talk about why they of
- 28:19Speaker 2: course why they came in America. Look for Oscar blah
- 28:22Speaker 2: blah blah. Didn't talk about his cousin going missing. In
- 28:24Speaker 2: West Virginia. He did an investigation of an old cold
- 28:28Speaker 2: mine outside of a shave Shaverville, West Virginia, which is
- 28:34Speaker 2: not a reel city by the way, because I don't
- 28:36Speaker 2: think it is. I've looked it up and I couldn't
- 28:38Speaker 2: find anything anyway, So they didn't ask Alex and Angus
- 28:45Speaker 2: to come with them because of what they experienced at
- 28:49Speaker 2: the fall of the house of us shirt about your house,
- 28:52Speaker 2: because that obviously, if you go and tell somebody about
- 28:56Speaker 2: some weird shit that's going on in mine, dealing with
- 28:59Speaker 2: a red light, ominous red light in the distance, and
- 29:03Speaker 2: he tried to get some help, people aren't think you're crazy.
- 29:07Speaker 2: So he's like, who the fuck am my girl go
- 29:08Speaker 2: to He's like, oh, Alex Angus Ingus, like yeah, they
- 29:15Speaker 2: see some weird shit, they know some weird shit. Let's
- 29:18Speaker 2: get them involved. So he did, and in this again
- 29:25Speaker 2: when okay, so Denton is pretty sure that there are
- 29:36Speaker 2: not that they are not dealing with fungus this time around,
- 29:40Speaker 2: but something is still lights in the deep as he
- 29:45Speaker 2: puts it, And of course Oscar went to the Hollowell
- 29:49Speaker 2: mine for him. He loves I guess Oscar loved to
- 29:52Speaker 2: go digging in minds and shit, because people do that.
- 29:58Speaker 2: I don't know people do that, Say, what's the reason.
- 30:01Speaker 2: He's basically he just loves doing that ship and normally
- 30:04Speaker 2: he's pretty good about getting in out navigating through minds
- 30:07Speaker 2: like problems, but for whatever reason, this one, he never
- 30:09Speaker 2: came back. And you're just like, we woo, we woo, bitch,
- 30:15Speaker 2: we woo. So they decided to go to West Virginia
- 30:19Speaker 2: and they're like, cool, let's go to this mine. Let's go,
- 30:23Speaker 2: let's go, let's see revel.
- 30:28Speaker 1: It's kind of like that kind of reminds me of
- 30:30Speaker 1: how there are people in France who routinely basically delve
- 30:35Speaker 1: the catacombs.
- 30:36Speaker 2: The Yes, yeah, like yeah, well people do get lost
- 30:43Speaker 2: in there and die, we're never seen again.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Go missing's history of the category of those catacombs, because.
- 30:51Speaker 2: What it's fucking it's so fucking weird. You just bury
- 30:56Speaker 2: people underneath the city walls of skulls and ship.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I'm just like, but I've only ever I don't know
- 31:04Speaker 1: much about like the whole like the catacombs, and like
- 31:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna definitely like go watch a YouTube video or
- 31:09Speaker 1: just read it on like looking up on Google. But uh, yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 1: like the the one movie. I've only seen like one
- 31:18Speaker 1: or two movies where they deal with the catacombs, and
- 31:22Speaker 1: the one that I liked the most was as Above
- 31:24Speaker 1: So Below, And I don't think I'm not saying it's
- 31:26Speaker 1: like the most like the best representation of the catacombs,
- 31:29Speaker 1: but yeah, it was lit.
- 31:33Speaker 2: It was lit. It is lit.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Like so.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Of this story. So they go into the they go
- 31:44Speaker 2: into hollow elk Mine and they get there and they
- 31:48Speaker 2: do and they do some investigation. I can't remember the
- 31:51Speaker 2: guy's name. I think his name was like Roger. Oscar
- 31:55Speaker 2: was not alone. He had somebody else with a dog.
- 31:58Speaker 2: It was Oscar, I think. I think the guy's name
- 32:01Speaker 2: was Roger. And then a of course he had also
- 32:04Speaker 2: had a dog, No, hmm, Kent, Kent, Kent, that's his name, Kent,
- 32:12Speaker 2: and he was there with him. But Oscar never came
- 32:16Speaker 2: back obviously, so it was been Kent and this dog.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And some locals have been trying to look so basically
- 32:25Speaker 2: Layman's terms because of a whole lot of stuff in
- 32:27Speaker 2: between that basically don't really don't really lead anywhere until
- 32:32Speaker 2: towards the end where you finally get to see what
- 32:34Speaker 2: the culture is, so as you're exploring the different tunnels
- 32:39Speaker 2: in the mind, Alex learns real quick that he's cost
- 32:44Speaker 2: that they're cost herophobic because some of these tunnels in
- 32:47Speaker 2: these minds. Have you ever been in some of these
- 32:49Speaker 2: caves and tunnel systems in the Appalachian Mountains, it's they're
- 32:57Speaker 2: not the fuck around with. You will get stuff uck
- 33:01Speaker 2: and you will die. So they're gone. They've gone through
- 33:06Speaker 2: some very narrow spaces, and of course they learned about
- 33:08Speaker 2: how like pockets of God, what's the gas methane methane gas,
- 33:16Speaker 2: And there's like three different gases that you can fall
- 33:18Speaker 2: into pockets up one that will kill you, one that
- 33:20Speaker 2: will put you to sleep and kill you, and then
- 33:22Speaker 2: one that is very flammable.
- 33:26Speaker 1: So methane, I think the sulfur is very flammable, meanee, yeah, yeah,
- 33:36Speaker 1: I would think. I think it would be carbon dioxide.
- 33:38Speaker 1: That's the one that will put you to sleep because
- 33:40Speaker 1: like if you if you're exposed to it any breathe
- 33:43Speaker 1: for too long, you will fall unconscious and.
- 33:45Speaker 2: You will die and you will die death. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 2: I remember correctly. Yeah, Yeah, they're different. They're they're basically
- 33:54Speaker 2: doing like the warning sides of cool. If you come
- 33:56Speaker 2: about this part of the tunnel and you feel dizzy,
- 33:59Speaker 2: we need to turn around. If you smell rotten eggs
- 34:03Speaker 2: around and they're going through all the safety measures of
- 34:08Speaker 2: that's mine. Of course, the mine was abandoned because first
- 34:12Speaker 2: it was opened up for mining, of course, and then
- 34:16Speaker 2: closed down and then opened up again. But then they
- 34:18Speaker 2: started seeing this weird red light that would randomly appear,
- 34:23Speaker 2: and weird shit would happen where people would die, and
- 34:27Speaker 2: eventually the mine was just abandoned because no one knows
- 34:31Speaker 2: what no one really knew what to do with it,
- 34:33Speaker 2: and with all the accidents and shit and weird shit
- 34:37Speaker 2: that happened, then no one wanted it or no one
- 34:39Speaker 2: wanted to touch that thing with a team football basically,
- 34:44Speaker 2: they're they're they're camped out in front, came down at
- 34:47Speaker 2: the entrance, hoping oscar walks out. You don't, well, a
- 34:53Speaker 2: oscar walks out. They do find a oscar. Is it
- 34:58Speaker 2: their oscar? No? No, no, it's not. So along their
- 35:02Speaker 2: journey they again, this book is very short, so if
- 35:05Speaker 2: it feels like I'm jumping to the gun, I'm really not.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Because it's a lot of talking and then exploring and
- 35:12Speaker 2: then oh, look, they found Oscar. They think they did.
- 35:15Speaker 2: So they find Oscar or they think they did, and
- 35:17Speaker 2: they bring him back and it turns out it's not Oscar. No,
- 35:23Speaker 2: absolutely not. He has goggles on. They had golf his goggles.
- 35:27Speaker 2: He has beady black eyes like a child drawing like
- 35:30Speaker 2: black eyes like thoughts for eyes. Like, this thing is
- 35:34Speaker 2: a shape. So what they have down there, So the
- 35:36Speaker 2: creature of the book is an alien like species. Think
- 35:45Speaker 2: the shape think the shape shifter from Annihilation. It's what
- 35:49Speaker 2: the vibes it gives. They could take the form of
- 35:51Speaker 2: a human kind of just not perfectly.
- 35:55Speaker 1: So this thing, it's like Diddo from Pokemon.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that's a yes.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Because like you're describing it and like you know, the
- 36:04Speaker 1: one lady. You can tell that if you if you capture,
- 36:08Speaker 1: if you can encounter a Pokemon. One way you can
- 36:11Speaker 1: tell that it's Ditto is if the eyes are just
- 36:12Speaker 1: these little beads and it has like a very like
- 36:15Speaker 1: kind of like like plain looking face, like it's not like.
- 36:18Speaker 2: A little smile. Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, like
- 36:23Speaker 2: didto Oh my god, that's gonna be the name of
- 36:25Speaker 2: the episode, Like didno so this alien species whatever. It
- 36:31Speaker 2: doesn't really say where they came from. They've just been
- 36:33Speaker 2: there for They were there when the Mountain rain was formed.
- 36:38Speaker 2: And this one, taking the form of Oscar, is a
- 36:43Speaker 2: piece of this much larger thing. So there's like a collective,
- 36:48Speaker 2: and this thing broke off into different pieces, so he's
- 36:51Speaker 2: so he always refers to himself as we or as
- 36:56Speaker 2: the whole, because he wants to become whole again, going
- 37:00Speaker 2: back to the main big piece of this thing, because
- 37:02Speaker 2: he didn't because at one point they do find it,
- 37:04Speaker 2: like they get into a tunnel and they find this
- 37:07Speaker 2: reflective surface that when they look in it, it mirrors
- 37:11Speaker 2: their appearance, and that's the whole. It's kind of like
- 37:15Speaker 2: a mirror, like a It's very weird how they describe it.
- 37:19Speaker 2: It's almost like a mass of like mirror, like a
- 37:22Speaker 2: mirrored mass that takes the form of whatever it sees.
- 37:26Speaker 2: And one of the pieces that broke off became this Oscar.
- 37:31Speaker 2: And of course by this point you kind of kind
- 37:35Speaker 2: of go with the idea that Oscar probably died, and
- 37:40Speaker 2: the mind said, damn, because what you find out is,
- 37:45Speaker 2: I think the clone Oscar found Oscar and then he
- 37:50Speaker 2: ran away deeper into the mind and from there you
- 37:53Speaker 2: kind of just assume that he, yeah, he didn't make it, bro,
- 37:57Speaker 2: he didn't make it. He did and he did, and
- 38:01Speaker 2: the fake Oscar was not trying to scare him because
- 38:04Speaker 2: lo and behold these these This thing is not vicious
- 38:09Speaker 2: or anything. It's just trying to it all. It's all
- 38:12Speaker 2: it fucking wants is to just live its life in
- 38:15Speaker 2: the cave and chill. That's all it wants. That's all
- 38:18Speaker 2: this thing wants. And they give it a whole that's
- 38:23Speaker 2: all it wants to just humanity to leave it the
- 38:26Speaker 2: fuck alone. Look, it just live its life and cave
- 38:27Speaker 2: in the cave and solitude. Because and what's interesting, it
- 38:31Speaker 2: goes throughout its whole history on it, on pieces of
- 38:35Speaker 2: it breaking off and going down the rivers and going
- 38:37Speaker 2: down into the mountains, and somehow this piece of it
- 38:41Speaker 2: or chunk of it went to the when to this
- 38:43Speaker 2: mine when it was first formed, and it grew from
- 38:47Speaker 2: there and pieces broken off and ship It's I'm not
- 38:51Speaker 2: doing it justice because the way it's written it's very
- 38:55Speaker 2: i don't want to say eldridge, but kind of eldridge like,
- 38:58Speaker 2: it's very undescribed on what the thing is, and what
- 39:01Speaker 2: the thing really is. It's just a thing, a living
- 39:05Speaker 2: thing that was like in the Arctic, and it went
- 39:07Speaker 2: down south and then from there it broke off, went
- 39:10Speaker 2: down to the rivers and now here's a piece of it,
- 39:14Speaker 2: and it's goal is to try to get to the
- 39:16Speaker 2: much larger half. But in the meantime, it just wants
- 39:20Speaker 2: to chill in the mind and just live on its
- 39:23Speaker 2: own and mind's own business. Humans, You mind your business, world,
- 39:27Speaker 2: minds our business, and we're just gonna chill. So when
- 39:31Speaker 2: they find out, oh, the thing just wants to chill,
- 39:35Speaker 2: they're all kind of course, everyone's kind of side eyeing it,
- 39:37Speaker 2: like you're you just want to chill all you want
- 39:41Speaker 2: to do. It's it's all.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Just that bombastic eye, the criminal offensive side.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I like, I don't know if you trust you.
- 39:53Speaker 1: And that's suspicious. That's that's weird.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Then lo and behold the dog, Kent's dog that the
- 40:09Speaker 2: dog that was there with Oscar and Kent turns out
- 40:12Speaker 2: is one of them. Is one of those shape shifting things.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But this one is vicious. It starts it starts killing people,
- 40:20Speaker 2: starts killing people attacking them. They end up killing it
- 40:24Speaker 2: or the fake Oscar ends up absorbing, absorbing it into
- 40:29Speaker 2: himself and devours it in a weird way. They make
- 40:34Speaker 2: it sound like he devoured it, but yet he just
- 40:35Speaker 2: became whole with it. Again. It's really I love how
- 40:40Speaker 2: they how they how Ursula writes this. It is so
- 40:48Speaker 2: just I don't want to say Eldridge because it's I mean,
- 40:53Speaker 2: it kind of is, but it's really not. But you
- 40:55Speaker 2: really can't describe this thing, and it's just so interesting
- 40:59Speaker 2: on how he goes about trying to describe it, but no,
- 41:02Speaker 2: on and behold, fake Oscar devours the dog and becomes
- 41:07Speaker 2: whole with it. Alex gets injured, heavily injured, and he lived.
- 41:14Speaker 2: They live in God. So I was like, no, you're
- 41:17Speaker 2: not gonna kill They're not gonna kill them here, No, no, Alex.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I love mister Lieutenant Alex Easton.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I love the lieutenant.
- 41:32Speaker 2: But basically at the end of the story, after they
- 41:36Speaker 2: killed the dog, they kind of just accept the fact
- 41:39Speaker 2: that Oscar is dead. He's dead, and that's when they
- 41:44Speaker 2: find out. That's when a fake Oscar tells him, yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 2: we saw I saw him, but he ran deeper into
- 41:48Speaker 2: the mine and just never came back. And then Denton
- 41:53Speaker 2: was very upset about it because Oscar saved him as
- 41:55Speaker 2: a child and he wanted he wanted to repay that back.
- 41:59Speaker 2: And he's like, he shouldn't be dead. I shouldn't be here.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I'm here because of him. I can't. I'm He's dead
- 42:06Speaker 2: and I can't do anything about it. And this is
- 42:09Speaker 2: when you kind of come to find out that Denton
- 42:13Speaker 2: and his friend John in Gold are gay. Oh oh oh,
- 42:25Speaker 2: because the way John comforts Denton, Alex makes a mark
- 42:29Speaker 2: or makes a remark or thought bubble to himself, to
- 42:32Speaker 2: themselves like they're getting a little they're a little close.
- 42:35Speaker 2: And I'm just like, oh my god, this is very gay.
- 42:40Speaker 2: I ship it. I ship it. I ship it. Hell Yeah,
- 42:47Speaker 2: because I was not expecting gay. I was expecting gayness
- 42:50Speaker 2: in this book outside of Alex.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Who's.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Very the characters very queer coded in general because they
- 42:58Speaker 2: don't go by male or female pronouns. Go buy a
- 43:00Speaker 2: third pronoun for galate from Galatian. It's it's interesting, but
- 43:04Speaker 2: Alex is very queer coded. But to find out about
- 43:09Speaker 2: doctor Dinton and John, a white man with a native
- 43:15Speaker 2: oh top that colonizer colonize a colonizer colonize a colonizer.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Oh my god, colonize. That should be the day of
- 43:28Speaker 2: the episode, Colonize the colonizer. No, that's not gonna be
- 43:31Speaker 2: the name of the episode, but colonize a colonizer. So yeah,
- 43:37Speaker 2: it's basically it ends with them, except in the fact
- 43:40Speaker 2: that Oscar is dead and Denton has to just like
- 43:44Speaker 2: live with that and fake Oscar. So what happens is
- 43:49Speaker 2: fake Oscar decides to, hey, can we make a pat
- 43:54Speaker 2: or a deal or something and we can go live
- 43:57Speaker 2: our lives. We can go live our life in there
- 44:00Speaker 2: and we won't bother y'all if y'all won't bother us.
- 44:04Speaker 2: So the book ends with them everyone parting ways, but
- 44:07Speaker 2: there's gonna be somebody always watching the opening of the mind.
- 44:12Speaker 2: A human is designated and that their job now is
- 44:15Speaker 2: to watch the mind to make sure no one goes
- 44:17Speaker 2: in it and nothing comes out. So there's always gonna
- 44:21Speaker 2: So now I guess it's gonna be like a family
- 44:22Speaker 2: tradition thing because they kind of say that there's always
- 44:25Speaker 2: gonna be a person watching the mind to make sure
- 44:28Speaker 2: no one goes in to leave them to leave whatever
- 44:32Speaker 2: it is alone, and that's the deal that they left
- 44:36Speaker 2: on it's like cool, fake Oscar went back into the
- 44:38Speaker 2: mine and they closed it off, and basically, now there's
- 44:43Speaker 2: someone that's gonna be designated living there to just be
- 44:46Speaker 2: the guard the guardian of the mind for them, for this,
- 44:50Speaker 2: for these creatures, just live their life and peace and
- 44:53Speaker 2: harmony because they don't want to bother anybody. They're scared
- 44:56Speaker 2: of humanity. They're scared of people. But I mean, like,
- 44:59Speaker 2: who wouldn't be Honestly, we're monsters, so.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Will be most invasive species in the entire planet.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Period high five to us. I guess quote unquote.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Nah nah, but it's and it kind of so the
- 45:24Speaker 4: way it ends is alex is like, you know, America
- 45:28Speaker 4: is weird, this place is fucking weird, this ship's weird.
- 45:33Speaker 2: There's this ship here. I don't have a lot to go,
- 45:38Speaker 2: so they talk about possibly heading back and then some
- 45:42Speaker 2: I think it was Agnes or not Agnes ignorant Angus,
- 45:48Speaker 2: my god Agnes is on the brain is Basically at
- 45:55Speaker 2: the end of the story, they decide instead of going
- 45:57Speaker 2: back home, they go out west and it leaves and
- 46:03Speaker 2: leaves on a cliffhanger because they're like, oh yeah, we're
- 46:04Speaker 2: gonna go out. We're gonna go out west, but that's
- 46:08Speaker 2: for another story. And I'm like, oh, is there gonna
- 46:11Speaker 2: be a fourth What where they go out west? I
- 46:16Speaker 2: got desert, Oh my god, Texas? Oh no, no, Louisiana.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Oh that'd be fun. Louisiana Bay, you got zombies.
- 46:27Speaker 1: You know that we need a good I need a
- 46:29Speaker 1: good Texas for her because the last Texas for I
- 46:31Speaker 1: read is Zero Saints and takes place in Boston, Texas,
- 46:37Speaker 1: and honestly, it wasn't the kind of Texas for I
- 46:40Speaker 1: was looking for, because it's more of, like, you know,
- 46:42Speaker 1: it involves a lot of gangs, you know, gang like
- 46:45Speaker 1: gang on gang stuff, and like a potential like satanic ritual,
- 46:51Speaker 1: like we're talking like Mexican folk paganism, which was kind
- 46:57Speaker 1: of cool, but it wasn't really like that great.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they go out. It ends with them going
- 47:06Speaker 2: out west to venture off into other parts of the
- 47:08Speaker 2: country to see what else is out there, and that
- 47:12Speaker 2: ends the book. And I'm just like, please write more,
- 47:15Speaker 2: because this series is fucking and this one I do
- 47:19Speaker 2: recommend to read. You don't necessarily need to read the
- 47:21Speaker 2: other two to read this one, even though if you
- 47:25Speaker 2: want to learn the backstory on Denton and who he is.
- 47:28Speaker 2: I would definitely read the first one, But these books
- 47:31Speaker 2: are kind of written in a way where you don't
- 47:34Speaker 2: really need to read the other ones, kind of. I mean,
- 47:38Speaker 2: if you want the backstory on like Glacia and Alex,
- 47:43Speaker 2: sure again, I would read the first one, and then
- 47:45Speaker 2: you could read the third one if you don't want
- 47:47Speaker 2: to read the second one. Second one's kind off on
- 47:49Speaker 2: its own. But this series is so fucking good. The
- 47:52Speaker 2: way the way it combines like gothic horror with in
- 47:57Speaker 2: this case like science or science fiction is so good.
- 48:03Speaker 2: And the compromise of like, okay, maybe not all these
- 48:07Speaker 2: supernatural things are evil or monstrous like in the first two.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Right, like who are the real monsters in this story?
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yes? Exactly what this book is so good about. It
- 48:19Speaker 2: makes you wonder who's the real monsters, this thing, this
- 48:22Speaker 2: fragment or the problem? Am I the villain? I'm not
- 48:29Speaker 2: the villain?
- 48:30Speaker 1: Villain? Nah?
- 48:34Speaker 2: But it's it's so it's good. I I still low key.
- 48:40Speaker 2: When I get paid, I might get those special editions
- 48:42Speaker 2: of those three books. So fucking pretty, and I'm just like,
- 48:46Speaker 2: am I gonna slail myself?
- 48:49Speaker 1: It's something got.
- 48:54Speaker 2: But that is the book what stocks the deep they
- 49:00Speaker 2: nuts y'all, thank you for joining my ted talk see
- 49:04Speaker 2: your way out.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Thank you, You're welcome.
- 49:12Speaker 2: And this course is not gonna be the last episode
- 49:15Speaker 2: of the Halloween season because obviously the thirtieth next week
- 49:20Speaker 2: is next Thursday, and there's gonna be a whole other
- 49:23Speaker 2: episode and you're like, oh my god, well you'll go
- 49:25Speaker 2: and talk about So I'm doing a thing because by
- 49:30Speaker 2: the time this episode comes out, actually I don't want
- 49:33Speaker 2: to spoil the thing because I do want to spoil
- 49:36Speaker 2: it kind of. So you're so everyone's ready, but I'm
- 49:38Speaker 2: not gonna spoil the others for spook Ock not spoiling
- 49:41Speaker 2: that thing. So this thing, okay, So what we're gonna
- 49:44Speaker 2: do is I decided to get a little frisky with
- 49:47Speaker 2: my ideas and my other pod. I asked, So next
- 49:52Speaker 2: week's episode is gonna be split into two parts. Part
- 49:55Speaker 2: two is gonna be on Thursday with book watch. But
- 50:01Speaker 2: I'm like, you know what, let's I'm gonna do part
- 50:04Speaker 2: one for something else. So okay, So next week I'm
- 50:08Speaker 2: gonna be talking about the Immortal Hulk series by value
- 50:12Speaker 2: fucking masterpiece of a Hulks. You ever think Hulk is
- 50:17Speaker 2: body horror and like just horror? No, we'll buckle up,
- 50:24Speaker 2: bitch it fucking is. It's so good. It's so good.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Shit be busted and the body horror is disgusting. So
- 50:34Speaker 2: Part one is gonna be on House of Ideas because
- 50:37Speaker 2: I thought, because I'm gonna sart posting episodes for that again,
- 50:39Speaker 2: I'm like, you know what, Part one won't be on there?
- 50:42Speaker 2: So Part one I'm gonna be talking about the first
- 50:44Speaker 2: twenty five episodes, twenty five issues of the Immortal Hulk,
- 50:49Speaker 2: and then Part two, which will be on Thursday. For
- 50:51Speaker 2: book watchers, is gonna be episodes episodes issues twenty five
- 50:55Speaker 2: through fifty. Is there are fifty issues in this series.
- 51:00Speaker 2: That's next week, so tune in Monday for the first part.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Otherwise if you don't, that's fine, but you're gonna be
- 51:06Speaker 2: missing out because there's some good ship. I'm sure I'm
- 51:09Speaker 2: gonna give a minor little recap, but like goes the
- 51:14Speaker 2: whole thing, babes the whole thing thing. But yeah, So
- 51:21Speaker 2: that is today's episode. Catch us next week Halloween, the
- 51:25Speaker 2: week of Halloween, Halloween until then, Bye bye, Yeah
