- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up Crimson Tide fans and everybody together just collectively
- 0:04Speaker 1: take a giant exhale because the bye week has arrived
- 0:06Speaker 1: and it comes at the most opportune moment to get
- 0:08Speaker 1: healthy get right and it comes with a bit of
- 0:11Speaker 1: celebratory news because Alabama's offense remembered hey we could actually
- 0:14Speaker 1: score in the second half of games we don't have
- 0:16Speaker 1: to just play idly by and let other teams find
- 0:19Speaker 1: a way to beat our asses no we could actually
- 0:21Speaker 1: do those things and because of one defensive stop And
- 0:25Speaker 1: one major throw, Alabama gets its mojo back. What initially
- 0:28Speaker 1: felt like this was a game that they were going
- 0:30Speaker 1: to control led to some tyranny, led to some moments
- 0:33Speaker 1: of people even doubting if this was the right Alabama team.
- 0:36Speaker 1: But all it took were two plays in the third quarter.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And Alabama finds a way to win 31-20 over Texas
- 0:42Speaker 1: A & M and Tuscaloosa. But that's not how this
- 0:45Speaker 1: game went. So how did this game go? Let's break
- 0:47Speaker 1: it all down.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Welcome on into SEC Football Addiction. Cole Thompson here.

- 0:58Speaker 1: a week on The Power 2. And this video is

- 1:05Speaker 1: on up with promo code HMA on their first $ 5 lineup.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Alabama felt like they were going to be in control
- 1:11Speaker 1: of this game. And I think that everybody would say
- 1:13Speaker 1: after they watched as Marcel Reed took the field and
- 1:16Speaker 1: saw the outlook of those first two drives, yeah, Alabama
- 1:19Speaker 1: had this one locked up. Alabama gets the ball first,
- 1:22Speaker 1: they punt. But here comes Marcel Reed looking to get right.
- 1:25Speaker 1: All he does was get right back into the arms
- 1:27Speaker 1: of Dijon Lee, who's entering the Good Graces after being
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the doghouse with a pick six, making it a
- 1:33Speaker 1: 7-0 affair.
- 1:34Speaker 2: But you have one mulligan. Everything is fine for Texas
- 1:36Speaker 2: A & M. They're not ready to pull. Mars is
- 1:38Speaker 2: not ready anytime soon. They bring him back out there.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And lo and behold, here's another interception. Initially, not thought
- 1:44Speaker 1: to be one. But then they realize, eh, McDonald had
- 1:47Speaker 1: his arms on it. Chuck McDonald, you make a.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Big time play. Two drives, two interceptions.
- 1:51Speaker 1: And reality television kind of appears on our screen. Because
- 1:53Speaker 1: right off to the side, we watch as Brady Hart
- 1:56Speaker 1: is starting to warm on up. And you think in
- 1:58Speaker 1: that moment, well, this is where we're going to watch
- 2:01Speaker 1: them finally make a quarterback switch.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You have nothing to lose at this point. You're down
- 2:05Speaker 2: by seven. You have two turnovers.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And the game has barely even started. Fans are still
- 2:09Speaker 1: flooding into Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- 2:11Speaker 2: We can make the call. But instead, that was the
- 2:15Speaker 2: last straw to where they said, you know what, Marceau?
- 2:17Speaker 2: Play your game. And he does. Connor Tallity misses a kick.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Ball goes back to Texas A & M. They march
- 2:24Speaker 2: down the field in 10 plays, 80 yards, five minutes
- 2:26Speaker 2: off the clock to make it a 7-7 affair. Now,
- 2:28Speaker 2: Connor Tallity makes the next kick, thankfully. And because of that,
- 2:32Speaker 2: it's a 10-7 lead.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But here comes Texas A & M, getting play after
- 2:37Speaker 1: play after play, picking apart Alabama's secondary, and they close
- 2:42Speaker 1: off the drive after a 31-yard pass to Gregory across
- 2:45Speaker 1: the middle of the field with a 4-yard touchdown run
- 2:48Speaker 1: by Marcel Reed. But Alabama responds with their own touchdown.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Deep into their own red zone, you see Daniel Hill
- 2:55Speaker 1: get a toe-tapping grab as he hauls on in a
- 2:57Speaker 1: pass from Keelan Russell. And lo and behold, now it's
- 3:00Speaker 1: a 17-14 game. But they need a stop right before
- 3:04Speaker 1: the end of the first half. And if so, then
- 3:08Speaker 1: Alabama can feel mightily confident about what they're doing.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Here's the problem. It's a punt, and Alabama gets pinned
- 3:14Speaker 2: deep into their own end zone. And Keelan Russell, still making.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Some bonehead mistakes as a freshman... Shows you why he
- 3:21Speaker 1: is a true freshman. Gets out of a sack, tries
- 3:23Speaker 1: to go ahead and make a play happen, and unfortunately he's.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Picked on off.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Short field position for Alabama to give up the field
- 3:31Speaker 1: goal and tie the game at 17-17.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Before halftime. A & M comes out. They look strong.
- 3:37Speaker 1: 13 plays and 68 yards later, it's a 20-17 lead
- 3:41Speaker 1: following a kick made by the Aggies. And then Alabama
- 3:44Speaker 1: marches down the field, and this is where you think,
- 3:47Speaker 1: oh boy, here come the floodgates and things are going haywire.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Connor Tulte misses his second kick.
- 3:52Speaker 1: The guy who literally has been captain clutch all year
- 3:55Speaker 1: for the Crimson Tide.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Two missed kicks in this game.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Anybody remember 2012, 2013, 2014.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Underneath Nick Saban?
- 4:03Speaker 1: Those years that never we could find a kicker that
- 4:06Speaker 1: would live in Tuscaloosa unscathed? Bad Juju came into Tuscaloosa
- 4:12Speaker 1: on a Saturday afternoon watching as Connor Talti just has
- 4:15Speaker 1: the yips.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Six points off the board, lead going to Texas A
- 4:19Speaker 2: & M. And then the play.
- 4:22Speaker 1: The big play that is necessary for Alabama to win.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Fourth down called. And somehow, someway, they hike it. Testing
- 4:34Speaker 2: Alabama's defense. Marcel Reed fumbles the ball. It's recovered by Reese.
- 4:39Speaker 1: They weren't going to get the first down anyways. Turnover
- 4:42Speaker 1: to Alabama at midfield. And then, finally, Keelan Russell is
- 4:48Speaker 1: able to get the job done. 38-yard pass before the
- 4:52Speaker 1: end of the third quarter. Tariqo Scott down the field.
- 4:57Speaker 1: New ballgame to the Crimson Tide. They outscore the Aggies
- 5:02Speaker 1: 14-0 in the fourth quarter and find a way to
- 5:06Speaker 1: hold them to punt, punt, punt, three and out, three
- 5:11Speaker 1: and out, five total yards of offense. A collapse by
- 5:15Speaker 1: one side and a resounding beckoning call from the other side,
- 5:18Speaker 1: and Alabama finds a way to win this football game,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and they pull away, and they keep their college football
- 5:23Speaker 1: playoff hopes alive a little bit longer because of now
- 5:26Speaker 1: they go into the bye week and they can get healthy.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Hey, guys, I'll get right back to the video, but

- 5:59Speaker 3: All of the conference football addictions, college football addiction, and
- 6:02Speaker 3: of course, the power too. All right, back to the clip.
- 6:06Speaker 2: One of the big three takeaways that I have in
- 6:07Speaker 2: this game.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Number one, Alabama has found itself a wide receiver to
- 6:11Speaker 1: take on over for Ryan Coleman Williams while he is out,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and his name is Rico Scott. That was the difference
- 6:16Speaker 1: in this game. Keelan Russell was able to build a
- 6:18Speaker 1: rapport with his number seven receiver, And he ended up
- 6:21Speaker 1: finishing with six catches for 156 yards. When there was
- 6:24Speaker 1: a big play needed, when there was a moment that
- 6:26Speaker 1: Alabama had to find a way to score or move
- 6:29Speaker 1: the six through the air because the run game wasn't working,
- 6:32Speaker 1: they said, let's go find seven and go ahead and prosper.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And they did those things, which is massive for Alabama
- 6:38Speaker 1: because they had a rapport. Keelan Russell finishing the day
- 6:41Speaker 1: with over 300 passing yards, but 19 of 30 on
- 6:44Speaker 1: the day. Not what you want to see. He still
- 6:46Speaker 1: is a young quarterback though. And Ryan Grubbs still has
- 6:49Speaker 1: got to get better with the play construct. How many
- 6:51Speaker 1: times were you watching on this afternoon? You need a
- 6:54Speaker 1: big-time run. You need something to go with the ground game.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Daniel Hill, Treshawn Brown, no EJ Crowell in this game,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and you just had nothing. But you had Rico Scott,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and Scott was the difference. Scott came up with multiple
- 7:06Speaker 1: big-time catches, none more than the 36-yard grab right before
- 7:11Speaker 1: the end of the end zone at the end of
- 7:12Speaker 1: the third quarter to give momentum.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Back to the Crimson Tide.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And then once you got them into the red zone,
- 7:17Speaker 1: you go ahead and you find Edwards, you go ahead
- 7:19Speaker 1: and you find Pritchett, You get 14 points off of it,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and you find a way to win 14-0 differential with
- 7:26Speaker 1: an 11-point victory. So Rico Scott, his role needs to
- 7:30Speaker 1: continuously grow moving forward because it's very clear that they
- 7:33Speaker 1: believe he can be a big-time playmaker threat.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Number two, your tight end play is phenomenal. Thank you
- 7:38Speaker 2: for my money. Your tight end play is sensational this season.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of teams out there that
- 7:44Speaker 1: have really good 12 and 13 personnels, Georgia being one
- 7:47Speaker 1: of them. Alabama may have the most slept on tight
- 7:50Speaker 1: end room in the country because what Josh Ford did
- 7:52Speaker 1: at the very beginning of the game to move the
- 7:54Speaker 1: sticks and you felt like that momentum was going to.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Go right across the intermediate part of the field. That's
- 7:59Speaker 2: one thing.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But then you go ahead and you watch as Marshall
- 8:01Speaker 1: Pritchett and Caleb Edwards both step on up. They only
- 8:05Speaker 1: had five total catches combined, but they found their way
- 8:08Speaker 1: into the end zone twice. One on a 16-yard grab,
- 8:11Speaker 1: one on an 8-yard grab, and one on a 10-yard grab.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Everything you want to see from these two.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Total five catches for less than 40 yards, averaged about
- 8:23Speaker 1: nine yards of play, but they also did a really
- 8:25Speaker 1: nice job blocking.
- 8:26Speaker 2: They gave opportunity.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Ford specifically had one block where Keelan Russell should have
- 8:31Speaker 1: been brought down behind the line of scrimmage, but he
- 8:32Speaker 1: was able to get the defensive end. I think it
- 8:34Speaker 1: was Otto Saka, if I'm not mistaken. Turned up field
- 8:37Speaker 1: and out of play. That eventually led to a big
- 8:40Speaker 1: time connection. I think it was to Lottie Brooks on
- 8:42Speaker 1: third down. So the tight end play has been really
- 8:45Speaker 1: essential for this team. Now, my third big takeaway, and
- 8:47Speaker 1: probably the biggest one when it comes to the offense,
- 8:50Speaker 1: you got to get better. That offensive line is not
- 8:52Speaker 1: good still. And that's a concern. Alabama today could not
- 8:55Speaker 1: run the football to save their life. 28 carries for
- 8:59Speaker 1: 68 yards. You had four runs of over eight yards downfield.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Four.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Four. And Keelan Russell was responsible for one of them.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Daniel Hill was responsible for another. And Treshawn Brown had
- 9:10Speaker 1: one play of 10 yards. He had six more carries
- 9:12Speaker 1: on the day. He finished with a grand total of
- 9:14Speaker 1: 11 yards. That tells you everything you need to know.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And it's not because Alabama does not have talented running backs.
- 9:21Speaker 1: At the start of the year, you could have bought
- 9:23Speaker 1: me into the idea that Alabama does not have the
- 9:25Speaker 1: right running back to fit into a Ryan Greb system.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And you could even say that Texas A & M
- 9:29Speaker 1: has talent, because they do. They have a decent defensive
- 9:32Speaker 1: line that was able to go ahead and put pressure
- 9:34Speaker 1: on Keelan Russell. But the reality is, gang, is that
- 9:38Speaker 1: Alabama's offensive line created no opportunities.
- 9:42Speaker 2: For the running game to get going. And they became
- 9:44Speaker 2: a one-dimensional offense. And it was clear watching the way
- 9:47Speaker 2: that Alabama had to win.
- 9:49Speaker 1: In the second half alone, they even said that there
- 9:51Speaker 1: was a moment where you thought that they were going
- 9:53Speaker 1: to find a way to run it. Especially when they
- 9:55Speaker 1: had the lead and they were trying to milk as
- 9:57Speaker 1: much clock off as possible.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And they technically couldn't. do it.
- 10:01Speaker 1: One of the biggest plays of the game, what was
- 10:03Speaker 1: basically the nail in the coffin before the Daniel Hill run,
- 10:08Speaker 1: was the throw to Lottie Brooks on third down.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And I know that a lot of you would be saying, well,
- 10:13Speaker 2: they should be throwing it because of it's a way they.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Can guarantee to get plays going. They had to throw
- 10:18Speaker 1: it because they couldn't trust that their offensive line would
- 10:20Speaker 1: have created blocks. And they lost one of their star
- 10:23Speaker 1: offensive linemen during the game and had to go to
- 10:25Speaker 1: a backup. So now they're down multiple starters. They're starting center.
- 10:28Speaker 1: They're starting left guard, if I'm not mistaken. So they
- 10:31Speaker 1: were banged up. And I understand that that takes away
- 10:33Speaker 1: from probably the outlook. But still, Alabama's offensive line was
- 10:38Speaker 1: supposed to be something that would be improved. And so far,
- 10:41Speaker 1: it's more so right on power from what it was
- 10:43Speaker 1: a season ago. And I understand that you have a
- 10:45Speaker 1: young quarterback that you feel like can make those big-time plays,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and he can, but you don't want to be putting
- 10:51Speaker 1: everything on his shoulders. And at times today, especially with
- 10:54Speaker 1: the way the play construct had to go, with Ryan
- 10:56Speaker 1: Grubb designing options, now he did a good job making
- 10:59Speaker 1: it work at times, but still, you're sitting here frustrated
- 11:03Speaker 1: because you're watching this offensive line take steps back. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: don't think you felt really good about that offensive line
- 11:09Speaker 1: after the game against Kentucky, but you certainly felt better
- 11:13Speaker 1: about it after the game against South Carolina. I think
- 11:15Speaker 1: you definitely felt better about it in certain ways, at
- 11:18Speaker 1: least with run blocking, after the game against Mississippi State,
- 11:21Speaker 1: because Alabama was able to run rampant all over the Bulldogs.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And maybe that says more about the Bulldogs' defense than
- 11:26Speaker 1: it does Alabama's offensive line, but still really rocky at
- 11:29Speaker 1: those periods. Takeaway number four, and this is probably one
- 11:32Speaker 1: that you're going to have to work on during the
- 11:33Speaker 1: bye week, still sloppy open field tackling. That's really, really
- 11:37Speaker 1: bad open field tackling. And that's something that Kane Wallach
- 11:40Speaker 1: has got to be able to assess, relapse, go through
- 11:43Speaker 1: the bye week and be able to tell them how
- 11:45Speaker 1: to be able to fix those things. Because you got
- 11:47Speaker 1: LSU on the horizon in Death Valley. And that is
- 11:49Speaker 1: a playoff elimination game, in my opinion. The winner of
- 11:52Speaker 1: that game is going to feel like they're in the
- 11:53Speaker 1: driver's seat to beat 10-2 in the college football playoff.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And the loser of that game is more than likely
- 11:58Speaker 1: going to need a bunch of help from teams not
- 12:01Speaker 1: named the SEC. So Big 10, Big 12, and ACC
- 12:06Speaker 1: teams to create a running lane for you to get
- 12:08Speaker 1: back in this race. That's just the way that I feel.
- 12:11Speaker 1: How many times were you watching as Mario Craver made
- 12:13Speaker 1: a play across the middle of the field? How many
- 12:15Speaker 1: times were you watching as Isaiah Horton was able to
- 12:18Speaker 1: win his.
- 12:19Speaker 2: One-on-one battles in coverage?
- 12:20Speaker 1: How many times were you watching as a guy like
- 12:22Speaker 1: Jamerion Morrow or KJ Edwards bounced off a defensive lineman
- 12:27Speaker 1: or a linebacker and they couldn't get the job done?
- 12:29Speaker 1: Now credit, they found a rhythm in the second half.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Caleb Woodson played out of his mind. Luke Metz was
- 12:34Speaker 1: really good, especially at the line of scrimmage. Fatuo Henry
- 12:38Speaker 1: with two big sacks.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Both I believe that they were on third down. Exceptional.
- 12:44Speaker 1: But it took too long for you to get to
- 12:46Speaker 1: that rhythm. A & M is a team that right
- 12:48Speaker 1: now has no idea if they are going to be
- 12:52Speaker 1: the same going into next season. They understand that after today,
- 12:55Speaker 1: they're probably going to have to make a ton of
- 12:57Speaker 1: offensive changes. And a ton of changes for their team
- 13:01Speaker 1: moving forward on how they want their identity to be.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But Alabama allowed A & M to find a rhythm
- 13:07Speaker 1: in this game. There was a point where Marcel Reed
- 13:10Speaker 1: was about to be the hero to go into Tuscaloosa
- 13:14Speaker 1: and kind of vape with the Crimson Tide. And it
- 13:16Speaker 1: was largely because of as bad as the offense was,
- 13:19Speaker 1: the defense gave opportune moments for them to get into
- 13:22Speaker 1: field goal range and take their advantages. So again, it's
- 13:25Speaker 1: little things like that that you need to clean on up.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Slow starts have been killer for Alabama this year. There
- 13:30Speaker 1: was a giant slow start after the first pick. There
- 13:33Speaker 1: was a giant slow start until the middle of the
- 13:36Speaker 1: second quarter when.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Daniel Hill gets into the end zone.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And then you fell apart really at the end of
- 13:41Speaker 1: the second half and it did not come to life
- 13:43Speaker 1: until you got the fumble right before the end of
- 13:44Speaker 1: the third quarter. You can't afford that against a team
- 13:47Speaker 1: like LSU. And you certainly cannot afford that in the
- 13:50Speaker 1: Iron Bowl. Because those are the two toughest games left
- 13:52Speaker 1: you have under schedule. The good news is you have
- 13:55Speaker 1: time to get healthy. And it seems like that right now,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Alabama will get back Zabian Brown. Alabama will get back
- 14:01Speaker 1: Ryan Coleman Williams. Alabama will get back both of their
- 14:04Speaker 1: starting offensive linemen, at least their starting center. And they'll
- 14:08Speaker 1: have a week to game prep. What they witnessed today
- 14:10Speaker 1: out at Jordan-Hare that was working for Sam Levin and
- 14:13Speaker 1: company because they were able to run all over the
- 14:16Speaker 1: Tigers for about three and a half quarters before they
- 14:18Speaker 1: finally called on Colt. It needs to get cleaned on up.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You never apologize for a signature win in the SEC.
- 14:25Speaker 1: In the conference that is the most challenging, daunting, and
- 14:28Speaker 1: ravenous place because of when you play B- football against
- 14:31Speaker 1: any team, there's an opportunity for you to lose. You
- 14:35Speaker 1: found a way to not lose. But you also found
- 14:37Speaker 1: a way to be able to respond in the fourth quarter.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Can you do that in the first or the second?
- 14:42Speaker 1: That's going to be a big deal breaker moving forward.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Alabama wins. Alabama goes into the bye.
- 14:47Speaker 1: They can get healthy at this point. But there's so
- 14:49Speaker 1: many things that they're going to need to clean on up.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And if they don't, it's going to be a long
- 14:53Speaker 1: wait to the finish line. Where you may end up
- 14:55Speaker 1: going 10-2, you may end up going 9-3. 8-4 is
- 14:59Speaker 1: not off the table. And certainly, an opportunity for you
- 15:03Speaker 1: to allow another team to take your college football playoff
- 15:06Speaker 1: first spot also very much on the horizon. Make sure
- 15:09Speaker 1: you like the video, hit the ring notification, and comment
- 15:11Speaker 1: down below, what did you make of Alabama's 31-20 win?
