In Cantonese, water is 水. Say it with me: 水. Luna: 水. Lucas: Good. 水. That's water. Luna: 水. Got it. Lucas: Now, tea. Tea is 茶. 茶. Luna: 茶. Lucas: Nice. 茶. And coffee is 咖啡. 咖啡. Luna: 咖啡. That sounds like 'ka fe'. Lucas: Exactly! It's borrowed from English. And juice is 果汁. 果汁. Luna: 果汁. So 果 is fruit and 汁 is juice? That makes sense. Lucas: Totally. Now let's practice ordering. Say 'I want water' — 我想要水. 我想要水. Luna: 我想要水. Lucas: Perfect. Now 'I want tea' — 我想要茶. Luna: 我想要茶. Lucas: Great. 'I want coffee' — 我想要咖啡. Luna: 我想要咖啡. Lucas: And 'I want juice' — 我想要果汁. Luna: 我想要果汁. That's a lot! But I think I've got it. Lucas: You do. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine we're at a café. You're the customer. I'm the server. Luna: Okay! Lucas: Hello, what would you like? Luna: 我想要咖啡. Lucas: Ah, a coffee! Sounds good. And I'll have 茶. Luna: So we order with 我想要, right? Lucas: Right. You can also just say the drink name, but 我想要 is polite. Luna: Good to know. Let me try all of them one more time. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: 水, 茶, 咖啡, 果汁. 我想要水, 我想要茶, 我想要咖啡, 我想要果汁. Lucas: Nailed it. You sound like a local already. Luna: Aww, thanks! So if I'm thirsty, I can say 我想要水. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want something warm, go for 茶 or 咖啡. Luna: What about iced coffee? Is that different? Lucas: Good question.
