- Lucas: Hi everyone. Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I am Lucas, and this is Luna. Luna: Hey! It is good to be here again. We have been talking about so many things lately. Lucas: We have. From body parts to clothes, and even the dentist. But today, we are moving somewhere active. Luna: Yes. Today is about movement. About the gym. Or just staying healthy. Lucas: Exactly. Before we dive in, I want to mention something important about this show. Luna: Right. The mission. Keeping it clean and focused for you. Now, let us get into the workout mindset. Luna: I feel tired just thinking about it. Where do we start? Lucas: We start with the intention. The desire to move. In Dutch, we say 'Ik wil gaan sporten'. Luna: 'Ik wil gaan sporten'. That means I want to go exercise? Lucas: Yes. It covers everything. Running, lifting, swimming. Any sport. Let me say it slowly. Ik wil gaan sporten. Luna: Ik wil gaan sporten. Okay. I want to go sport. Or exercise. Lucas: Perfect. Now, where do you go to do this? The place itself. Luna: The gym. In Dutch, it is 'de sportschool'. Lucas: Correct. It is a compound word. Sport plus school. De sportschool. Repeat it with me. Luna: De sportschool. De sportschool. It sounds heavy. Like a big building. Lucas: It often is. So, if you are at 'de sportschool', what might you be doing? Luna: Maybe yoga? I see people doing yoga a lot these days. Lucas: Good example. To say you practice a specific activity, we use 'doen aan'. So, 'Ik doe aan yoga'. Luna: 'Ik doe aan yoga'. I do at yoga. It feels a bit literal, but I get it. Lucas: It is very common. Ik doe aan yoga. Ik doe aan tennis. Ik doe aan zwemmen. Try it. Luna: Ik doe aan yoga. Ik doe aan... running? No, hardlopen. Ik doe aan hardlopen. Lucas: Excellent. You are getting the pattern. Now, imagine you want to go regularly. You need access. Luna: A pass? A membership? Lucas: Yes. An abonnement. So you say, 'Ik heb een abonnement'. Luna: 'Ik heb een abonnement'. I have a subscription. Or a membership. Lucas: Right. Let's put it together. You arrive at the place. Luna: I walk into 'de sportschool'. I tell the receptionist, 'Ik heb een abonnement'. Lucas: And before you start sweating, you declare your intent. Luna: I say, 'Ik wil gaan sporten'. And then I specify my method. Lucas: You say, 'Ik doe aan yoga'. Luna: That seems like a very polite way to start exercising. Very structured. Lucas: It is. But after yoga, there is often relaxation. Do you know the Dutch word for sauna? Luna: Sauna? It is also 'de sauna'? Or is it different? Lucas: It is 'de sauna'. Same word. Very useful in Dutch gyms. Many have one. Luna: Oh, that is nice. So I could ask if it is available? Lucas: Yes. A simple question. 'Is de sauna open'? Luna: 'Is de sauna open'. Is the sauna open. Simple and direct. Lucas: Let's review the set. Start with the goal. Luna: Ik wil gaan sporten. Lucas: Now the location. Luna: De sportschool. Lucas: Then your specific action. Luna: Ik doe aan yoga. Lucas: Your status. Luna: Ik heb een abonnement. Lucas: And your question for relaxation. Luna: Is de sauna open? Lucas: You did that perfectly. Notice how we used 'Ik heb' from our earlier lessons. Luna: Yes. It connects well. Having a membership allows me to do the activity. Lucas: Exactly. It builds confidence. You know exactly what to say. Luna: I feel ready to book a class. Even if I just sit on the bench. Lucas: That counts too. Rest is part of the process. Did you remember the URL for support? Luna: buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Yes. It helps keep the episodes coming. Lucas: It does. Thank you for listening to Learn Dutch with Fexingo.
