- 0:50Speaker 2: of the world.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Well, we're gonna win this game first. Oh yeah, can
- 0:56Speaker 1: we buy that after we win? Yeah? Off the that's it? Well,
- 1:00Speaker 1: did say? Welcome to an episode and we are Lawy
- 1:03Speaker 1: from sun Corps Idem thanks to the great Queensland Bearing
- 1:07Speaker 1: Berk almost been bearing K. I've always said beering k.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What is it? Is there a beter in k somewhere?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Because you, I swear? Yeah, I know, been a long day.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It has been a long day anyway, Queensland Berk for this?
- 1:20Speaker 1: How good is it fantastic being here at un called Stadium?
- 1:24Speaker 1: You've got a favorite origin moment here? Well? Actually in general, no,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I do a favorite moment? Yeah, well is it one
- 1:34Speaker 1: of my eighty eight tries I scored? No? Not like,
- 1:38Speaker 1: have you got a favorite origin origin? Okay, I've got
- 1:42Speaker 1: a few act Well, you played more than I did, obviously,
- 1:45Speaker 1: a couple of mine actually aren't anything to do with
- 1:48Speaker 1: me playing here. They're actually being a fan here. Actually
- 1:52Speaker 1: my first ever game, I came and watched was when
- 1:55Speaker 1: you was it Gillo took your spot, you came off
- 1:58Speaker 1: the bench because you were injured. Yeah that series, that
- 2:02Speaker 1: one does one series. Yeah, and yeah I sat. I
- 2:06Speaker 1: remember I sat the other side about seven rows back
- 2:10Speaker 1: then center of the game of the field, and oh
- 2:14Speaker 1: it was a best It was. It was honestly one
- 2:16Speaker 1: of the greatest times ever just sitting there watching and
- 2:19Speaker 1: it was cool because yeah, back then I just started playing.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I was just in the first grade. Well, so, like
- 2:25Speaker 1: you know, just sitting there watching you boys play and
- 2:28Speaker 1: then seeing his the next week was it was. It
- 2:30Speaker 1: was so cool, like that was that was cool for
- 2:34Speaker 1: me because you know, as a kid growing up, I
- 2:36Speaker 1: never I never got I never watched a lot of footy, yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 1: because it was hard to watch a lot of footy.
- 2:40Speaker 1: But then watching Origin was the only thing you got
- 2:42Speaker 1: to sort of watch. This is how old I am.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I came and watched Billy Slater scored the chip and
- 2:47Speaker 1: Chase Try I was sitting western side and the Bronx
- 2:51Speaker 1: at the time, they were offered twenty five dollars tickets
- 2:54Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, how good is that? Twenty
- 2:56Speaker 1: five hours to come watch State of Origin. Absolutely ridiculous.
- 2:59Speaker 1: What did you I didn't watch Billy do that ship
- 3:01Speaker 1: and chase. It was so good to sit in Western Side,
- 3:04Speaker 1: like three twenty one twenty one, and then I remember
- 3:07Speaker 1: sitting up at the roof and watching on top right
- 3:11Speaker 1: like in the sixty you got to get a lift
- 3:14Speaker 1: in a half bait anyway, if there was a fire,
- 3:16Speaker 1: we've got to be stuck up there. But I remember
- 3:19Speaker 1: watching Maddy Bowens that is amazing. I was lucky enough
- 3:24Speaker 1: to score one try here. Actually I scored one try
- 3:26Speaker 1: in Sydney and I scored one try here. It's out
- 3:28Speaker 1: of Origin. Oh so good. Yeah, I think you actually,
- 3:31Speaker 1: if you would just scored two, you're only one by
- 3:33Speaker 1: me and Origin, so yeah, only scored three, but one
- 3:37Speaker 1: was here. Like in the moments like that in footy
- 3:39Speaker 1: for me were cool, like twenty two decider yeap. I
- 3:43Speaker 1: thought my career in Origin was over, like you know,
- 3:46Speaker 1: years before that, and I was I was actually content
- 3:48Speaker 1: with that. I was enjoying footy, you know. Getting the
- 3:50Speaker 1: late call up that moment was probably cool. First Origin, well,
- 3:54Speaker 1: first series as captain, I mean as coach for Billy
- 3:57Speaker 1: and he won it, you know, and I got to
- 3:59Speaker 1: call up four days five days out with Tommy Did
- 4:01Speaker 1: and got to be a part of his debut game,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Tommy Gilbert. That moment for me just because of those kids.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I think it was cool because you got to see
- 4:10Speaker 1: Tommy did and really, you know, show his worth in
- 4:14Speaker 1: the originary and he showed that he deserved to be.
- 4:18Speaker 1: One of the most iconic moments here at some corps
- 4:21Speaker 1: of recent times is the Dozer try. Oh yeah, dam
- 4:24Speaker 1: Smith going nuts and that was that game. Yeah. I
- 4:26Speaker 1: was sitting in the corner. So at some corpse stadium,
- 4:29Speaker 1: there's a there's a corner suite where they put a
- 4:32Speaker 1: studio in there, so Channel nine have a studio the
- 4:35Speaker 1: State of Origin Fox if it's a Fox game, so
- 4:38Speaker 1: on and so forth. But I was sitting in there
- 4:40Speaker 1: with Wally Laws because it was too crazy and hectic
- 4:43Speaker 1: to sit anywhere else. He and I was sitting there
- 4:45Speaker 1: watching that moment and we shared an embrace, and I
- 4:48Speaker 1: was just like, I'm sitting here hugging Wally Lewis watching
- 4:53Speaker 1: Ben hunts or I try to win, like win stat
- 4:57Speaker 1: of Origin like absolutely incredible, And I don't know that's
- 5:00Speaker 1: I think that's why stat of Origin is so special.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That's why people love it, like it comes down to
- 5:05Speaker 1: moments game. That game for me, was, by the way,
- 5:08Speaker 1: the hardest game I've been ever been a part of.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Like I don't know what the stats were on balling
- 5:13Speaker 1: play and all the rest, but I still believe that
- 5:17Speaker 1: was the hardest gaming rugby league I've ever played. And
- 5:21Speaker 1: it just I've never seen so many tie blokes, no one.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I think I stepped somebody for the first time my career.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It was an accident, you tripped, and I think, yeah, no, no,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm swear to god it was. And I think it
- 5:32Speaker 1: was Stephen Crichton and I think I even did it,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and he went, oh, I know, like the guy that
- 5:37Speaker 1: doesn't step idea, I swear to God, And I went,
- 5:40Speaker 1: that just shows how tired everyone is. If I can
- 5:42Speaker 1: step you, there's something wrong. And yeah, that moment for playing,
- 5:47Speaker 1: not playing, but being in origin was after that game,
- 5:50Speaker 1: taking the seats out and sitting around the middle the
- 5:53Speaker 1: center having bees on chairs like that and just sitting
- 5:57Speaker 1: there looking around like what did we just do? I
- 5:59Speaker 1: had to eat my hat at the Fogs lunch the
- 6:01Speaker 1: other day because I asked said one of the questions
- 6:04Speaker 1: I said, was, you know you obviously take a lot
- 6:06Speaker 1: of confidence from game two leading into this game three.
- 6:09Speaker 1: But is that you know, you hit the reset but
- 6:11Speaker 1: he goes, oh Sam, we took a lot of confidence
- 6:13Speaker 1: out of game one too. It was like, oh sorry, bro,
- 6:18Speaker 1: but Origin has always been about moments, and you know
- 6:21Speaker 1: we had some moments in game one, but you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: the defining moment was the Tedesco try at the end.
- 6:28Speaker 1: He put himself in a position to score the try.
- 6:30Speaker 1: That's probably a couple of moments in game two that, like,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I can really recall Jojo for Feeder's effort just before
- 6:36Speaker 1: half time that he shot in. I think that shut
- 6:40Speaker 1: the play defensive. That whole game was great. It was
- 6:43Speaker 1: so good saying the whole game that it frustrated New
- 6:47Speaker 1: South Wales. They stopped taking out there pretty much because
- 6:50Speaker 1: what had happened in game one. They got their pants
- 6:52Speaker 1: pulled down because New South Wales started too slow and
- 6:56Speaker 1: then they couldn't get they were chasing their tail. So
- 7:00Speaker 1: then game two they started really fast and they were
- 7:02Speaker 1: right into it. Yeah, you know we got an early penalty.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Tommy Flegler try assist and head but just dropped cold,
- 7:11Speaker 1: just drop cold, just slip a chicken, Yeah, slippery chicken exactly,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and then but scores and then but then after that,
- 7:21Speaker 1: defensively Queensland showed up. So I'm really interested to see
- 7:24Speaker 1: how this one plays out. I'm not nervous, I am nervous.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm excited. This is like, actually it's a lie. End
- 7:33Speaker 1: of last year watching the Broncos run and like going
- 7:36Speaker 1: to camera, then the game here against the penwith Panthers,
- 7:39Speaker 1: then heading down to watch them play in the Grand Final.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I was nervous for the boys, like nervous, and I
- 7:44Speaker 1: haven't felt that way for the camera game. We'll sit
- 7:46Speaker 1: next you. We both actually sorry Sammy and I. I
- 7:51Speaker 1: know it's because we played it, but maybe probably call it.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So we were watching the game, were oh, no, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 1: we're gone, and then the Bronx started defending up and
- 8:01Speaker 1: camera started making some marriages right so they were shot
- 8:03Speaker 1: on the right edge. And then while she come back
- 8:05Speaker 1: on and that play they scored. They kicked off. Then
- 8:10Speaker 1: we did a set and then that next set we
- 8:13Speaker 1: both looked at each other went, they're gone. It's the blanket,
- 8:16Speaker 1: real blanket, real, Yeah, Wayne, Bernie is safe. We can
- 8:19Speaker 1: if I can throw a blanket over here, he's tired,
- 8:22Speaker 1: he's done, there's nothing, and they were in between the
- 8:25Speaker 1: scrub lines and we went, we're on here, and shit,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I watching that game that last ten minutes. Yeah, it
- 8:34Speaker 1: was one of the most I've ever yelled in my life.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I've never been so excited ever before. There was some
- 8:40Speaker 1: onehearted abuse being yelled at us. Yeah, as we're getting sprayed,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and I was doing the old yeah where is now?
- 8:49Speaker 1: And then they started just going and you actually did
- 8:53Speaker 1: start doing the Viking clappers. I did a few ship
- 8:55Speaker 1: with things. Yeah, I'm proud of your carrying on a
- 8:58Speaker 1: bit I did, but you know what, that's what they
- 8:59Speaker 1: were doing. So that's the only other time I've kind
- 9:01Speaker 1: of felt nervous. But this is I don't know why
- 9:05Speaker 1: or how. It just it just means origins means so much. Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and yeah, I can't sit here and say it's different,
- 9:13Speaker 1: But what I can say is that I know that
- 9:15Speaker 1: the teams that they've both been listed. Yeah, you go
- 9:18Speaker 1: through both teams, you go through news that Wales. I
- 9:21Speaker 1: see blokes that have been there, blokes that have played
- 9:24Speaker 1: tough games, games that they weren't meant to win, play
- 9:27Speaker 1: tough passion. They show it on the field, and then
- 9:30Speaker 1: you look at Queensland. It's the same team and you
- 9:33Speaker 1: know there's passion, you know there's heart and that just
- 9:36Speaker 1: thinks that makes me think that's a perfect recipe for
- 9:39Speaker 1: a bloody good game of rugby league. Like there's matchups,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's going to yeah, matchups like and yeah, and then
- 9:46Speaker 1: everyone's in form. You always say that, but I really
- 9:49Speaker 1: think it's going to be a fire to twenty first
- 9:52Speaker 1: twenty and it's who wins that. Yeah, you know it
- 9:56Speaker 1: not not wins the game, but yeah, you win that
- 9:57Speaker 1: first twenty you know, it's you know that you don't
- 10:01Speaker 1: give any chances and it's those big moments. Yeah. I
- 10:04Speaker 1: know you don't bet, but when you do, you do
- 10:06Speaker 1: it responsibly. I do always better responsible. Yeah yeah, but
- 10:10Speaker 1: if you were to put a you're picking someone in
- 10:12Speaker 1: a little multi for this, maybe you go multi, okay,
- 10:15Speaker 1: origin multi. He may go try scorer and then maybe
- 10:18Speaker 1: we can put our heads together and we can go
- 10:21Speaker 1: a man of the match or a Wally Lewis medalist.
- 10:25Speaker 1: What do you think on that, Well, I said already
- 10:29Speaker 1: while there was medalist. If he gets man of the
- 10:32Speaker 1: match is selling cobo. You know what if he gets
- 10:35Speaker 1: Man of the match, so you're almost grouping it together.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So you're saying, he's going to be man in the
- 10:40Speaker 1: match in this game. If man in the matches of
- 10:42Speaker 1: this game we win, he gets made the match, he
- 10:44Speaker 1: gets while lewis metal. Okay, I'll back on that, But
- 10:48Speaker 1: are you going to go try scorer? Then I should go.
- 10:52Speaker 1: So you you're tripling down on Cobo. Yeah, okay, sweet,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I like that. Well you know I'm going to go.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'm going to go off the bench, Jeremie, and I
- 11:04Speaker 1: like it any time I do like that. Yeah, you
- 11:07Speaker 1: like that? Yeah, I really do that. Yeah, I never
- 11:13Speaker 1: I haven't said this yet, but I think at a
- 11:17Speaker 1: function I've done leading up to the game, they asked
- 11:20Speaker 1: me about a player that doesn't hasn't really been He
- 11:23Speaker 1: hasn't not not like he hasn't played well, but he hasn't.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They haven't spoken about him a lot. Yeahs max player. Yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 1: they speak about him saying, oh, you know he fits
- 11:33Speaker 1: in does this, but no, no, no, this game he
- 11:37Speaker 1: is in origin. He could be the difference in this
- 11:39Speaker 1: game because of the way that it can be played, like,
- 11:42Speaker 1: he can play long minutes, he's tough, ball skill ye
- 11:45Speaker 1: and he makes line breaks. Well, he's quick. A lot
- 11:49Speaker 1: of question marks on Billion Game two when he put
- 11:51Speaker 1: him out there when we had a difference, Like he
- 11:54Speaker 1: played the whole game, most of the game out there,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and I think this could be his game where his
- 12:00Speaker 1: skill is going to be the difference for us. And
- 12:03Speaker 1: if he does that, look like, yeah, anything can happen
- 12:06Speaker 1: for him in this Origin arena. But that's not about
- 12:10Speaker 1: multi Okay, do you want to throw a third in there?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Just in case? What? Who are you thinking about a third?
- 12:18Speaker 1: And then yeah, I said off college Yeah yeah, Nicora, Yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I was going to say a backgrower. I like a
- 12:29Speaker 1: backgrow Yeah. So if you don't want to go to
- 12:31Speaker 1: the man of the match, it will have to be
- 12:33Speaker 1: off a kick because it's been so hard to like.
- 12:37Speaker 1: But he runs the hardest line. All right, there you go,
- 12:40Speaker 1: that's a twenty leg multi. Good put Plath in there.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I just said, no, I'm just saying if it seems
- 12:47Speaker 1: like a twenty leg multi, I'm doing it. That's how
- 12:53Speaker 1: multi wow okay game responsibly. At the end of the day,
- 12:58Speaker 1: we watched the boys run around final training session. What
- 13:01Speaker 1: did you see? What did you like talking about? What
- 13:04Speaker 1: are your memories final Like I used to love this,
- 13:08Speaker 1: used to be my favorite training session because you did nothing.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, really said in that the interview he goes,
- 13:16Speaker 1: you're already ready, your prepped. This is this is just
- 13:18Speaker 1: fine chuning. That's all this is. It's fine channing. Like
- 13:23Speaker 1: the medals, din' eveymore up. They just walk out. They
- 13:25Speaker 1: could go there barefoot if they wanted to, didn't they
- 13:29Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, I love this because I don't know
- 13:32Speaker 1: it kind of you know, it's tomorrow, it's close, it's
- 13:36Speaker 1: one sleep. But yeah, and I remember, you know Smithy
- 13:40Speaker 1: his little huddles at the end. I have to calm
- 13:42Speaker 1: myself down because after the after the huddle and after
- 13:46Speaker 1: him speaking, yeah, I wanted to just jump in front
- 13:49Speaker 1: of a car. I could beat that car. Will I
- 13:51Speaker 1: will bust that car up. And I'm like, I'll get
- 13:53Speaker 1: in the basket. Calm down, it just chill pre the
- 13:57Speaker 1: half racing a while an hour Like remember Steve Walters
- 14:00Speaker 1: used to give us a chatter yea even boxes hotel
- 14:03Speaker 1: before we even got on the bus. And he's up
- 14:06Speaker 1: inside like it's quiet box. He comes out of nowhere.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yeah all right, boys, you got your mouth shoulder pads,
- 14:11Speaker 1: head gear, anything else. You need, your boots, got your
- 14:13Speaker 1: tickets for your family, all right, boys, And then you
- 14:16Speaker 1: would go into some spear Oh and some guy that
- 14:19Speaker 1: you know had one leg and his dog. He was
- 14:22Speaker 1: inspirational and it was so good and yeah he's just
- 14:26Speaker 1: put But this this session, I don't know it was
- 14:29Speaker 1: always special because I don't know why it was. It's
- 14:34Speaker 1: kind of like, okay, it's here. What about Steve Walters
- 14:37Speaker 1: as a as a team manager or the champions he
- 14:42Speaker 1: would have seen because he started in two thousand and
- 14:45Speaker 1: one and one and then he finished up in twenty nineteen.
- 14:49Speaker 1: He must have been good at it must have been
- 14:51Speaker 1: good something about like and it was funny though, Yeah,
- 14:55Speaker 1: it's kind of He never made it out like it
- 14:58Speaker 1: was a it was chaos, no, or it was hard. Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you'd ask Steve Walters anything. And on a Tuesday night,
- 15:07Speaker 1: could I have twenty tickets? My family's coming down from towns.
- 15:12Speaker 1: No worries, mate, All good? I sawt it. I'm sure
- 15:14Speaker 1: there's not. You'll be fine, you know, all good. I'll
- 15:16Speaker 1: just make a few phone calls made, but I'll get
- 15:17Speaker 1: back in an hour and I'm like, awesome, and then
- 15:20Speaker 1: when I retie, I went ship. That job's hard like
- 15:24Speaker 1: stuff doing that. But you can't even iron your shirt? Okay,
- 15:27Speaker 1: I can, you can't. I can. I I did because
- 15:30Speaker 1: the fogs lunch the other day. Mate, your wife told
- 15:33Speaker 1: me that. I said, why did Otsie wear a blue shirt? Blues?
- 15:37Speaker 1: It was blue? I bought it in here. It was blue.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And you're going to ask me. Yeah, let's go, let's
- 15:42Speaker 1: have a look at it. But pinstripe dark gray. It's
- 15:46Speaker 1: gray all right? Where I am going to find there.
- 15:49Speaker 1: There's a little tag on the side and tell you
- 15:50Speaker 1: what the colors. Yeah, here we go. Oh, it's a
- 15:55Speaker 1: beautiful forty nine zero point five percent linen and fifty
- 16:00Speaker 1: percent cotton. Uh, blue and white stripes. No, it's not.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You be the judge, Ladies and gentlemen. He wore a
- 16:08Speaker 1: blue shirt to a Queensland state of origin folks lunch
- 16:13Speaker 1: and t consaid it is because it was the only
- 16:15Speaker 1: shirt that was ironed. Any shirt that fits me. I'm
- 16:17Speaker 1: just I'm so big now you busting out of me stuff.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You're retired, you got retirement syndrome. Putting on some cakes.
- 16:28Speaker 1: It's finally hit you. I can't eat mate, you if
- 16:31Speaker 1: you could eat, you'd be a pregnant gray. That's what
- 16:34Speaker 1: I eat. If I eat, it comes on fast. Queensland
- 16:37Speaker 1: by how much? Eight? Shut the gate? Eight? You know what.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We're celebrating the dynasty, the decade of Dominance, which started
- 16:47Speaker 1: in two thousand and six. So I'm going to say
- 16:50Speaker 1: Queensland by six. Okay, I like that. I thought you're
- 16:53Speaker 1: going to ten. No, well I could, all right, because
- 16:56Speaker 1: we want eight in a row. I said decade, didn't I? Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you did. That's what led me to the wards. Yeah, exactly,
- 17:03Speaker 1: Well you're overthinking it and way six points. Then full
- 17:08Speaker 1: episode coming up, Go queens mm hmm
