- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Mel Kuyper Jr. going to join us in about 15 minutes. Taylor,
- 0:23Speaker 1: put it on the poll. If you had $ 3. 9 billion,
- 0:26Speaker 1: would you spend it on the Angels?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Also put this on the poll.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Do you believe a single word that comes out of
- 0:37Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin's mouth?
- 0:41Speaker 3: A single word.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Because I don't. And I love that he has become
- 0:49Speaker 1: the person to root against in college football. It is
- 0:51Speaker 1: no longer Dabo. It is now Lane Kiffin, and they
- 0:55Speaker 1: play each other this weekend.
- 0:57Speaker 3: But enough of that. We have Mel Kiper Jr. coming up.
- 1:00Speaker 1: We have Charles Hoff, the head coach at Memphis, coming
- 1:03Speaker 1: up as well. We have a celebrity prognosticator. I'm very
- 1:06Speaker 1: excited about this later on in the show. But we
- 1:10Speaker 1: have to start here. Taylor's tears on a Tuesday. Taylor,
- 1:16Speaker 1: tears on a Tuesday. Give them to me right now.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Let me get my college football music. So this is
- 1:27Speaker 1: going to be whether or not you could be a
- 1:28Speaker 1: contender in the ACC this season. ACC football contenders. Taylor's
- 1:33Speaker 1: tears on a Tuesday. So this is specific to the ACC,
- 1:37Speaker 1: the conference that nobody cares about. Yep.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Okay, good.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Most people would say the third or fourth conference. Probably
- 1:43Speaker 5: people would lean more fourth conference, but. We still have
- 1:46Speaker 5: our moments.
- 1:47Speaker 3: It would be the fourth conference. Everyone would lean that way.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Big 12 is ahead of us?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Dan Beyer is the Big 12 ahead of the ACC?
- 1:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:57Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:58Speaker 3: What?
- 1:59Speaker 4: It's that Texas Tech money, Taylor.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Anyway. Your tears.
- 2:08Speaker 6: So I have.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Eight tiers for the teams in the ACC. The first tier.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Wait, hold on a second. Dan Beyer is laughing, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: I am too, over the fact. Dan, you're laughing at
- 2:20Speaker 1: the same thing I am, right?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The idea that he has eight tiers with one conference
- 2:25Speaker 1: that nobody cares about.
- 2:26Speaker 8: I don't know if you can have eight tiers for
- 2:27Speaker 8: all of college football.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Like, honestly. But we're going to do it just for
- 2:30Speaker 4: the ACC.
- 2:32Speaker 5: And actually, I counted wrong. It's nine tiers.
- 2:35Speaker 6: Oh, nine.
- 2:35Speaker 5: The first tier.
- 2:36Speaker 3: A bonus tier.
- 2:38Speaker 5: The bottom feeders.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Ah, the bottom feeders.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Loaded category because, as you know, the ACC has a
- 2:44Speaker 5: lot of bottom feeders.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Yes.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Duke, Boston College, Stanford, Syracuse, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Ah, the Deacs. So they have no chance is what
- 2:55Speaker 3: you're saying.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Bottom feeders. Just filling out our schedules.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I figured that would be the only tier. I got
- 3:00Speaker 3: to be honest with you. No, no.
- 3:03Speaker 8: By the way, Taylor is averaging just under two teams
- 3:05Speaker 8: per tier, according to the 17-team ACC. And we've already
- 3:09Speaker 8: got five off the board. There are 17 teams in
- 3:13Speaker 8: the ACC.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Yes.
- 3:14Speaker 3: There are 20 teams in the Big Ten.
- 3:17Speaker 6: What are we doing?
- 3:19Speaker 5: Our next tier. It's the garbage tier.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Ah, the garbage tier. How is this different from the
- 3:25Speaker 3: first tier?
- 3:26Speaker 5: So the bottom feeders, you're just kind of existing in
- 3:29Speaker 5: this conference. You're kind of just leeching off the conference.
- 3:32Speaker 6: Okay.
- 3:33Speaker 5: The garbage tier, this team could have been good, but
- 3:36Speaker 5: I've seen enough at this point. You're garbage.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Okay. With some teams you haven't seen them play yet.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I mean.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Well, that's a spoiler for who's in the garbage tier.
- 3:45Speaker 3: All right. Garbage tier.
- 3:47Speaker 5: NC State. NC state gets absolutely shellacked against Virginia this
- 3:52Speaker 5: past weekend to open up ACC play. If NC state's
- 3:56Speaker 5: roster looks like they paid their quarterback and figured the
- 3:59Speaker 5: rest would work itself out. It's because that's exactly what
- 4:02Speaker 5: they did with CJ Bailey.
- 4:04Speaker 3: So they're not a quarterback away. They're a rest of
- 4:07Speaker 3: the team away.
- 4:08Speaker 8: I thought they're good players went to Brazil. I thought
- 4:11Speaker 8: that was the excuse on Saturday.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I did see some fans that booked a trip to,
- 4:16Speaker 5: to that NC State Virginia game when it was supposed
- 4:18Speaker 5: to be in Brazil. And then they moved the game,
- 4:21Speaker 5: and then all the people that had flights were like, well,
- 4:23Speaker 5: what am I supposed to do now? And they just
- 4:25Speaker 5: took a trip to Rio, which was probably better than
- 4:27Speaker 5: if you went to Charlottesville and watched that game, actually.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I would say if you end up in Rio and
- 4:32Speaker 1: then realize there's no game, that's a bonus.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It's a win.
- 4:35Speaker 6: It's a good trade. You're in Rio.
- 4:36Speaker 4: It's their only win of the season.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. All right. You have another
- 4:42Speaker 3: tier or are we done with this tier?
- 4:44Speaker 5: NC State's the only team in garbage tier.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Okay. And you have nine tiers. So there's seven tiers
- 4:48Speaker 3: to go.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Next tier.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Yes.
- 4:52Speaker 5: I like your quarterback and that's about it.
- 4:54Speaker 3: All right. Well, that would be.
- 4:57Speaker 5: So I don't really like CJ Bailey from NC State.
- 4:59Speaker 5: That's why they didn't fit in this tier. And NC
- 5:02Speaker 5: State's more garbage.
- 5:03Speaker 6: Okay.
- 5:04Speaker 5: The only team and I like your quarterback and that's
- 5:06Speaker 5: about it. The Cal Bears, the Cal Golden Bears, JKS.
- 5:11Speaker 6: Yes.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Just because as an update anchor, Dan, I'm afraid to
- 5:14Speaker 5: say JKS's actual name from Cal.
- 5:17Speaker 4: You should. We all are.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Wait, can you say it, Dan?
- 5:21Speaker 6: No, I can't.
- 5:23Speaker 3: You're terrified of it, yes.
- 5:25Speaker 5: I was watching Stanford Hawaii, and for some reason, it
- 5:29Speaker 5: was the only name Jorge Sedano knew, and he was
- 5:32Speaker 5: flexing left and right. He said JKS's name. So if
- 5:35Speaker 5: I try to give it my best shot, Jaren Kiwa Sagapolitelli.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, well, that's why you don't do it.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Yep.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Sedano said this name 20 times in the broadcast.
- 5:45Speaker 3: When you have a difficult name, you trot it out.
- 5:48Speaker 3: He wasn't even playing in the game. No, but Dan,
- 5:50Speaker 3: this is a rule of radio.
- 5:52Speaker 1: When you have a difficult name and you can pronounce
- 5:55Speaker 1: it and no one else can, you say it as
- 5:57Speaker 1: often as you can.
- 5:58Speaker 8: If you can make it a mini song, it really
- 6:00Speaker 8: works for you. And then you say it as much
- 6:02Speaker 8: as you can.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Next tier.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Damn, what is the name that's... In fact, if you
- 6:09Speaker 1: could make a top five list, not today, but at
- 6:11Speaker 1: some point, of the top five names that terrify you.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Well, this is one of them. I told you Jerry
- 6:18Speaker 8: Rice is just because of the double R's. I'll tell you,
- 6:22Speaker 8: I'm focused on Irina Sabalenka right now. That is never
- 6:24Speaker 8: going to mess me up ever again. But you can't
- 6:27Speaker 8: think too much about it. You just got to let
- 6:29Speaker 8: it fly.
- 6:29Speaker 3: You know that, right?
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yes, absolutely.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Next tier.
- 6:34Speaker 5: The scrappy tier.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Ah, the scrappy tier.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Two teams here. The Pitt Panthers.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Yep.
- 6:41Speaker 5: And Georgia Tech. Because these are two teams that can
- 6:44Speaker 5: have all the roster turnover in the world, and they're
- 6:48Speaker 5: still somehow the same exact team every year.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Yep.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Good for one good upset every season.
- 6:53Speaker 7: Yep.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I like that. Georgia Tech.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Who do they play opening week here? Georgia Tech always
- 6:59Speaker 1: gets off to these 3-0, 4-0 starts. They're in the
- 7:01Speaker 1: top 15 of the country, and they do nothing.
- 7:03Speaker 3: You know. And I have their coach on every year
- 7:05Speaker 3: because I get excited.
- 7:07Speaker 5: We're placing Haynes King this year. Got a transfer quarterback
- 7:10Speaker 5: from Florida.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 7:12Speaker 3: That's what I like about the transfer portal.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Thursday, it's Colorado, Georgia Tech.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Yep.
- 7:18Speaker 3: At Georgia Tech, right?
- 7:19Speaker 6: Yep.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Deion Sanders.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Yep.
- 7:20Speaker 3: That's a win for Georgia Tech.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:22Speaker 3: That's how he fools us.
- 7:23Speaker 4: I'm serious.
- 7:24Speaker 3: It's Coach Key, whatever his name is.
- 7:27Speaker 5: The next tier. The next tier is, hold on a second.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Virginia Tech.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:35Speaker 5: With James Franklin.
- 7:36Speaker 6: Yes.
- 7:37Speaker 5: He brings a transfer quarterback from Penn State, Ethan Grunkemeier,
- 7:41Speaker 5: and the other team in, hold on a second, Tier.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 7:44Speaker 5: The North Carolina Tar Heels.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Hold on a second.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Hold on a second.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yeah, hold on a second. Yeah, number one team in
- 7:50Speaker 3: the country.
- 7:51Speaker 5: They lead the league in hold on a second.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And they're not going to lose this week. They have
- 7:54Speaker 3: a bye week.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Hold on a sec. Did Belichick figure this college thing out?
- 8:00Speaker 5: I think he might have.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yep, yep, with Bobby Petrino.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Dan Byer, you know Bobby Petrino.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And if you know Bobby Petrino, what you know is
- 8:11Speaker 1: he has his eyes on every other head coaching job
- 8:14Speaker 1: in America.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Very true. And other things. He also has his eye
- 8:18Speaker 4: on other things.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Yes.
- 8:22Speaker 5: The next tier.
- 8:23Speaker 3: How many tiers are left?
- 8:25Speaker 5: One, two, three, four tiers.
- 8:27Speaker 6: All right.
- 8:27Speaker 3: So we have four tiers to go. Go ahead.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Mel Kiper Jr. Going to join us coming up after
- 8:34Speaker 1: Taylor's done with his tears.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Next tier is I fully lost all my trust. And
- 8:40Speaker 5: there's two teams here.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Yes.
- 8:42Speaker 5: You mentioned one of the coaches earlier.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Yep.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Clemson yeah until until I see Dabo actually utilize and
- 8:49Speaker 5: maximize his team's roster with NIL and the transfer portal
- 8:53Speaker 5: I won't believe it until I see it and then
- 8:55Speaker 5: the other team and I've lost all trust Florida State.
- 8:59Speaker 1: All right I mean you said a win's a win
- 9:02Speaker 1: but Florida State's win was not a win over the
- 9:04Speaker 1: weekend not a win.
- 9:05Speaker 8: Yes I also feel like hold on a sec is
- 9:09Speaker 8: a higher tier than fully lost my trust.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Good point, actually.
- 9:12Speaker 3: What I'm finding is nine games within his tiers.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Is there going to be a tier with no team?
- 9:19Speaker 4: That's what I'm curious about.
- 9:20Speaker 6: Not yet.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Who was this? It was Clemson, right?
- 9:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 1: This is the first time ever because he's playing LSU
- 9:26Speaker 1: and Lane Kiffin and Dabo came out and said, hey,
- 9:29Speaker 1: getting professional kids and bringing them back to college is despicable.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But this is the first time I will find myself
- 9:35Speaker 1: rooting for Dabo Sweeney over the weekend because I can't
- 9:38Speaker 1: stand Lane Kivitt.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Anyway, go ahead.
- 9:40Speaker 5: So I'm going to combine these next two tiers, actually,
- 9:42Speaker 5: because they are a bit similar.
- 9:43Speaker 6: Okay.
- 9:44Speaker 5: My dark horse tier, it's the Virginia Cavaliers. It's the
- 9:47Speaker 5: roster with the most career snaps, starts, and games played
- 9:50Speaker 5: in all of college football this season. I don't really
- 9:52Speaker 5: trust Bo Perbula in passing situations. but when he runs
- 9:56Speaker 5: the ball, he's slim Tebow out there. And then the
- 9:58Speaker 5: contender tier, it's SMU, SMU. made the playoffs in 2024.
- 10:03Speaker 5: They still have that same quarterback, Kevin Jennings. And then Louisville.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Louisville has the best running back duo in the conference,
- 10:10Speaker 5: Kajon and Isaac Brown. I call them UPS because if
- 10:13Speaker 5: you're wondering what Brown can do for you, they can
- 10:16Speaker 5: run the ball.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I wasn't wondering that. Is that it for the tiers?
- 10:21Speaker 5: One more tier.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:23Speaker 5: And it's the biggest tier. Now or never tier. The
- 10:28Speaker 5: Miami Hurricanes. People are looking at this ACC and saying,
- 10:32Speaker 5: this conference stinks. This is a down year for the ACC. Well,
- 10:37Speaker 5: just to remind everybody, Miami has never won this conference.
- 10:43Speaker 3: No, but they did make it to a national championship game.
- 10:45Speaker 6: A year ago.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 10:50Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific on
- 10:54Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Be sure to
- 10:58Speaker 2: catch live editions of Stu Godson Company live weekdays at
- 11:02Speaker 2: 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
- 11:06Speaker 2: and the iHeartRadio app.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Our thanks to Mel Kuyper for joining us in hour
- 11:12Speaker 1: number one. Charles Huff, the head football coach at Memphis,
- 11:15Speaker 1: going to join us in about 20 minutes. But Taylor
- 11:19Speaker 1: keeps walking around here all day today. He's watching the
- 11:23Speaker 1: highlight of Colton Couser's catch. He's talking about Couser's catch.
- 11:27Speaker 1: He won't shut up about Couser's catch.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And it was a great catch. And it was a
- 11:31Speaker 3: great game. The Red Sox, was it the Red Sox? Yes, right?
- 11:35Speaker 5: Against the Rockies.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Oh, the Rockies, excuse me.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Close enough. They played once in a World Series against
- 11:39Speaker 5: each other.
- 11:40Speaker 1: It's football season. But it looked like a walk-off, and
- 11:46Speaker 1: Couser said otherwise. But anyway, Taylor, why haven't you stopped
- 11:51Speaker 1: telling me about this catch? I saw it with my
- 11:53Speaker 1: own eyes.
- 11:54Speaker 5: That Colton Couser catch, it made me say, holy Couser.
- 12:00Speaker 3: This is why.
- 12:02Speaker 5: I mean, that catch.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Straight out of a movie.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Are you doing stand-up?
- 12:11Speaker 5: I mean, the physics to catch that?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Probably ought to do calculus.
- 12:17Speaker 3: His name's Colton Couser.
- 12:18Speaker 7: Yep.
- 12:19Speaker 5: People comparing it to the Joe Adele catch from earlier
- 12:22Speaker 5: this year? Didn't give me deja vu.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Couser.
- 12:29Speaker 5: If you don't think it was the catch of the year...
- 12:32Speaker 5: I got real ground beef with you.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Yes, Dan.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Well, he needs his microphone on. It's a key part
- 12:45Speaker 3: of the job.
- 12:49Speaker 8: Me and the Baltimore Orioles needed some bovine intervention.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Oh, what?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Are you kidding me? You deserved it. No, you deserved it.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Your mic wasn't on. It was late.
- 13:00Speaker 6: I mean.
- 13:01Speaker 3: The timing was off, and it was a bad joke.
- 13:03Speaker 5: I mean, that Colton Cowher catch, legendary. Utterly ridiculous.
- 13:15Speaker 4: That's all I got.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Moo!
- 13:17Speaker 2: What?
- 13:25Speaker 3: I mean, how does moo get that sound? It's ridiculous.
- 13:32Speaker 3: We will get to the angels. Congratulations, Taylor. That was
- 13:37Speaker 3: ridiculously bad.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Stand-up comedian about a singular topic, Colton Gowser.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I would have thrown so many tomatoes at you.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 13:52Speaker 1: We'll get to Taylor's conspiracy theory here on the Angels
- 13:55Speaker 1: sale in just a second. For those of you who
- 13:58Speaker 1: don't know, and by the way, Charles Huff is going
- 14:01Speaker 1: to join us, head coach of Memphis, in about 15 minutes.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So this is the only segment we have to take
- 14:05Speaker 1: phone calls, 877-99 on Fox.
- 14:08Speaker 3: That is 877-99 on Fox.
- 14:11Speaker 1: For those of you who don't know, Taylor walked on
- 14:14Speaker 1: to the University of North Carolina's football team. He went
- 14:17Speaker 1: there for track. Um, he walked onto the football team.
- 14:20Speaker 1: He's very proud of it. We're very proud of him. Uh,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but Taylor, I have a question for you because Lane Kiffin, who, again,
- 14:28Speaker 1: I said this earlier, I don't believe a single word
- 14:31Speaker 1: that comes out of that man's mouth. If I, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 1: passed him on the street and he said hi to me, I.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Would think he's lying.
- 14:40Speaker 5: If he, if he told you it was sunny, you'd
- 14:42Speaker 5: bring an umbrella just in case.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Of course.
- 14:45Speaker 1: If he says it's sunny, that means it's pouring outside.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And if he says it's pouring outside, it's a beautiful
- 14:49Speaker 1: sunny day. That's Lane Kiffin. And when he left Mississippi
- 14:54Speaker 1: and decided to go to LSU, he talked about a
- 14:59Speaker 1: lot of locker room conversations that he and the players had.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And then the players came out afterwards and they were like, hey,
- 15:04Speaker 1: I never said that. And that never happened.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Why?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Because Lane Kiffin, when he tells you it's sunny out,
- 15:11Speaker 1: it's pouring rain. And when he tells you it's pouring rain,
- 15:15Speaker 1: it's beautiful blue skies.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Pouring lane.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Why do you get it all the time, the rim shot?
- 15:23Speaker 6: Moo!
- 15:29Speaker 1: And so now recently at LSU, Lane yesterday said that
- 15:35Speaker 1: he had a team meeting and he talked to his
- 15:38Speaker 1: team about the idea of getting players to who didn't
- 15:42Speaker 1: make their NFL team, who have declared for the NFL already,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and bringing them to LSU, even though the SEC is
- 15:49Speaker 1: saying no, which.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Is a joke.
- 15:51Speaker 3: All of it is a joke.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Taylor, I am wondering here, because I don't believe Lane Kiffin,
- 15:57Speaker 1: when he comes out and says, yeah, every single player
- 16:00Speaker 1: in that locker room was okay with the idea of
- 16:04Speaker 1: me going to get professional athletes and bringing them to LSU.
- 16:10Speaker 1: What locker room What kid wants more competition? So you're
- 16:15Speaker 1: sitting there every day. You're in practice. You're sweating.
- 16:19Speaker 3: You're grinding. You think you're going to get some reps.
- 16:21Speaker 3: You think you're going to get some playing time.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And your coach walks in and says, hey, how do
- 16:27Speaker 1: you feel about the idea of me bringing in professional
- 16:29Speaker 1: athletes who are better at their jobs than you are?
- 16:33Speaker 1: And I'm just going to insert them right into the
- 16:35Speaker 1: starting lineup. And the reason I'm asking Taylor this is
- 16:38Speaker 1: because he played on a college football team, a Division
- 16:41Speaker 1: I college football team, the University of North Carolina. And
- 16:45Speaker 1: so I ask you, if your coach walked into the
- 16:48Speaker 1: locker room and said, I'm going to bring in other players,
- 16:51Speaker 1: better players, create more competition, less playing time for you,
- 16:54Speaker 1: would you be okay with that?
- 16:56Speaker 5: The thing that I do believe is that when Lane
- 16:59Speaker 5: Kiffin left that meeting, Lane Kiffin heard the answer that
- 17:02Speaker 5: he wanted.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Yes.
- 17:03Speaker 5: But I don't believe that players went in and said, yes,
- 17:07Speaker 5: recruit these Greek gods coming from the NFL that led
- 17:10Speaker 5: the preseason in sacks who have eventually been waived. Bring
- 17:14Speaker 5: them to now be our edge rushers and generate more pressure,
- 17:19Speaker 5: pressure that I probably wouldn't be able to. But I
- 17:21Speaker 5: do think that college coaches... They go into meetings knowing
- 17:25Speaker 5: the answer that they want. Like they're, they're going to
- 17:27Speaker 5: go in with their questions. Well, what's the point of
- 17:29Speaker 5: the meeting? That's the thing. That's, that's, you have to
- 17:32Speaker 5: present it like it's a democracy. It's not college football.
- 17:35Speaker 5: College football is very much not a democracy, but you
- 17:38Speaker 5: have to give the college kids the illusion that they
- 17:42Speaker 5: do have some say in it. But Lane Kiffin's knowing
- 17:44Speaker 5: that if he goes in that meeting and he says,
- 17:46Speaker 5: Hey guys, we're thinking about bringing in NFL players. What
- 17:49Speaker 5: do you think? Whatever they say, he's leaving that meeting saying,
- 17:53Speaker 5: I'm getting the NFL players because that's what's going to
- 17:55Speaker 5: make us better.
- 17:56Speaker 1: So you're saying all the players in that locker room,
- 17:58Speaker 1: they were like, no, we're not okay with this. And
- 18:00Speaker 1: he walked out saying, yeah, they're all okay with it.
- 18:02Speaker 5: He walks out and he goes, wow, that meeting went
- 18:03Speaker 5: really well.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Yeah, he heard what he wanted to hear.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Yes. One time at North Carolina, we had not a
- 18:09Speaker 5: similar situation, but comparable. There was a very bad weather
- 18:15Speaker 5: in 2016, the Mitch Trubisky year. when North Carolina was
- 18:18Speaker 5: an ACC favorite to win the ACC. We had Mitch Trubisky,
- 18:22Speaker 5: Matt Collins at receiver, Ryan Switzer at receiver. We were
- 18:25Speaker 5: a team that had to throw the ball. And we
- 18:28Speaker 5: were supposed to get a hurricane, and we were playing
- 18:30Speaker 5: Virginia Tech, who Virginia Tech is like a smash mouth.
- 18:33Speaker 5: It was Justin Fuente coming over from Memphis. And our
- 18:37Speaker 5: coach comes and says, hey, our athletic director has come
- 18:40Speaker 5: to us. He's giving us the option to move the game.
- 18:43Speaker 5: What do you guys think? And we're saying, yes, we
- 18:46Speaker 5: cannot play in Kenan Stadium with a Cat 4 hurricane
- 18:50Speaker 5: coming when we need Mitch Trubisky to throw for 400
- 18:53Speaker 5: yards to win this game. And we said, yes, we'd
- 18:56Speaker 5: like to move the game to a neutral site. We'll
- 18:58Speaker 5: give up the home field advantage. And the coach just goes, well,
- 19:01Speaker 5: I told the AD we're already playing this game in
- 19:03Speaker 5: Chapel Hill.
- 19:03Speaker 4: What's the point? Yes, Dan, I'm sorry.
- 19:08Speaker 8: I think it's such a different era, though. If we
- 19:12Speaker 8: were to talk about this 10 years ago with players
- 19:15Speaker 8: already not being paid or compensated, we would have a
- 19:18Speaker 8: different thought process to this.
- 19:20Speaker 4: There would be different transfer rules at that time.
- 19:22Speaker 8: But now the only way I think that some of
- 19:24Speaker 8: these players that are currently on LSU that may lose
- 19:27Speaker 8: playing time, the only reason I think that they would
- 19:30Speaker 8: get screwed is is because of playing time and because
- 19:33Speaker 8: they can't transfer somewhere else, but they probably went to
- 19:36Speaker 8: LSU because they were making more money than they could
- 19:38Speaker 8: get it anywhere else. So it's tough for me to
- 19:41Speaker 8: sit there and be like, wow, this is a really
- 19:43Speaker 8: tough break for you because they're bringing in professionals. And
- 19:46Speaker 8: I think a decent portion of those players are, have
- 19:50Speaker 8: already gotten their money. It's different when you're maybe just
- 19:52Speaker 8: going there on a scholarship, but they probably have NIL
- 19:55Speaker 8: deals on why they wanted to go to LSU and
- 19:57Speaker 8: LSU gave them this amount of money. So it's difficult
- 20:00Speaker 8: for me to feel bad for anybody else on that team,
- 20:03Speaker 8: even if they're bringing in pros.
- 20:05Speaker 3: But even with the money, I understand what it is
- 20:07Speaker 3: you're saying.
- 20:08Speaker 1: The next most important thing, and maybe for some it
- 20:10Speaker 1: is the most important thing, is playing time, is being developed,
- 20:14Speaker 1: is having a shot of making it to the NFL.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And this is, I guess, minimizing your chances of doing
- 20:21Speaker 1: that because you're not.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yes, you're getting paid, but you're not getting.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The reps and the playing time that you thought you
- 20:26Speaker 1: were going to get because he's bringing in players that
- 20:28Speaker 1: he thinks is better.
- 20:30Speaker 6: And. Go ahead.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:32Speaker 8: And along those lines, to your point, they aren't able
- 20:36Speaker 8: to transfer now.
- 20:37Speaker 4: So that's why you're.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Kind of screwed.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Right, they missed the portal window. Yes, exactly.
- 20:42Speaker 8: Those players coming in, it's fine for them, which is
- 20:44Speaker 8: part of the point of contention. That would be the
- 20:47Speaker 8: only reason that I think that you could feel bad
- 20:49Speaker 8: for them, but I just don't have a lot of
- 20:52Speaker 8: sympathy for what it is now turning into because I
- 20:55Speaker 8: just don't think it's the college days that Taylor played
- 20:58Speaker 8: in 10 years ago.
- 20:59Speaker 4: It's not even close to that.
- 21:01Speaker 8: So I just, it's tough for me to feel bad
- 21:04Speaker 8: for anybody who's probably already making six figures and Maybe
- 21:09Speaker 8: then they'll just transfer next year, Stu.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 21:11Speaker 1: No, Dan, that's the next lawsuit. The next lawsuit is, well, no,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I went to LSU to play.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yes, I got paid. I wanted to play.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And then he started bringing in professional players. And so
- 21:21Speaker 1: now I want my college career extended. Like, it's never
- 21:23Speaker 1: going to end. None of this is never going to end.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I mean, college football, for the most part, is being
- 21:28Speaker 1: played in a courtroom.
- 21:29Speaker 3: It's unbelievable.
- 21:31Speaker 5: I'm going to back Lane Kiffin until the cows come home.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Jesus Christ.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I don't mind Lane Kiffin trying to improve his roster.
- 21:41Speaker 1: What I do mind is that Lane Kiffin comes out
- 21:44Speaker 1: and tries to give you something different than it actually is.
- 21:48Speaker 1: He tries to paint a different picture than what's actually happening.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin doesn't care about those kids. I'm saying it
- 21:53Speaker 1: right now. He doesn't care about the kids at Mississippi.
- 21:55Speaker 1: He doesn't care about the kids at LSU. Lane Kiffin
- 21:58Speaker 1: cares about Lane Kiffin, and that's it.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Period. End of discussion. He does not care about them.
- 22:07Speaker 5: You seem very upset about this. I think you just
- 22:08Speaker 5: have to calm down. Don't have a cow.
- 22:13Speaker 6: Moo!
- 22:14Speaker 3: Hi. Damn you!
- 22:19Speaker 4: I agree with Stu on this.
- 22:21Speaker 8: When Dan Lanning came out and spoke out against this,
- 22:25Speaker 8: I think it's because Dan Lanning can't do what Lane
- 22:27Speaker 8: Kiffin is doing.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Dan Lanning at Oregon.
- 22:29Speaker 6: Morally, you mean.
- 22:31Speaker 8: And like with the chemistry of his team. Also, if
- 22:34Speaker 8: this happens in year four of Lane Kiffin's time at LSU,
- 22:38Speaker 8: then at some point, I think there's going to be,
- 22:41Speaker 8: you know, some measure of distrust where you're just like, okay,
- 22:46Speaker 8: I'm not necessarily sure. Are my checks cashing? Is everything right?
- 22:50Speaker 8: But they're still trying to fill out a new, relatively
- 22:53Speaker 8: new team at LSU. So it gives Kiffin a little
- 22:56Speaker 8: bit of an, you know, leeway and escape room to
- 22:59Speaker 8: get away with this stuff. If you're Dan Lanning and
- 23:01Speaker 8: trying to build this championship team and you got to
- 23:03Speaker 8: you know, returning quarterback and Dante Moore, like it's probably
- 23:06Speaker 8: not good for team chemistry to do something like this. And,
- 23:09Speaker 8: but I think like Kiffin for whatever reason can. So
- 23:12Speaker 8: I don't, I don't think you're far off on your
- 23:14Speaker 8: comments at all.
- 23:15Speaker 1: No, we can just do it and shut up and
- 23:18Speaker 1: stop telling me about team meetings with a player supported you.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Just do it. Just do what it is.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You're doing and stop trying to convince me you're doing
- 23:27Speaker 1: something else. that the kids are okay with it, that
- 23:30Speaker 1: you're including them in the decision. What if he walked
- 23:33Speaker 1: into that locker room and every single kid on the
- 23:36Speaker 1: LSU team said, you know what, coach? I'm not okay
- 23:39Speaker 1: with this. Do you think Lane would still go get
- 23:41Speaker 1: those players?
- 23:43Speaker 6: Yes. All of it.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Like crying, sobbing.
- 23:48Speaker 6: No way.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I came here to play. I didn't come here for
- 23:52Speaker 3: you to.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Go get professional athletes to play instead of me.
- 23:56Speaker 6: No.
- 23:57Speaker 5: You have this turning into a scene from Rudy where
- 23:59Speaker 5: they're all just putting their jerseys down and saying, we're
- 24:01Speaker 5: not playing. If Jack Pyburn comes to be our new
- 24:03Speaker 5: edge rusher.
- 24:04Speaker 9: Yes.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Just the pros are playing. It would be a cattle call.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 24:11Speaker 6: Hey.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Boo! You guys have this playing out. It's almost the
- 24:17Speaker 5: opposite of the movie with Keanu Reeves, The Replacements, where
- 24:20Speaker 5: the replacements are not scab players. The replacements are just
- 24:25Speaker 5: NFL players to now replace the college guys.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yes, NFL players who, yes, who have already declared for
- 24:30Speaker 1: the NFL draft and maybe not good enough to make
- 24:32Speaker 1: their team.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Like, that'd be great. I'm good with it.
- 24:36Speaker 1: But just stop trying to pretend and sell me that
- 24:40Speaker 1: you're doing something morally correct.
- 24:42Speaker 3: You're not. You are not.
- 24:44Speaker 1: You asked kids to come to LSU, and now you're
- 24:46Speaker 1: trying to replace them with players that are better, and
- 24:49Speaker 1: they don't have the option to leave.
- 24:50Speaker 6: Period.
- 24:51Speaker 3: End of discussion.
- 24:52Speaker 4: But Kiffin's going to milk this.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Of course he is.
- 24:55Speaker 7: Yes.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 24:57Speaker 6: Thank you very much.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yes.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Proud of yourself?
- 25:04Speaker 4: Back to back. They're hard to come by. Unless you're Taylor.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Taylor gets them nonstop.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Even for bad jokes.
- 25:11Speaker 5: I'm really milking this.
- 25:14Speaker 4: That was my joke.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Is there a.
- 25:18Speaker 5: I missed that one.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Five seconds ago. He doesn't even get.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Booed for that.
- 25:23Speaker 8: He stole my joke that I said five seconds ago
- 25:25Speaker 8: and he.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Gets a rim shot. Yes, yes.
- 25:30Speaker 6: Lane Kiffin.
- 25:31Speaker 1: What's your conspiracy here before we get to Charles Huff,
- 25:35Speaker 1: the head coach of the Memphis Tigers? I love this guy.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I spoke to him right after. When he was at Marshall,
- 25:43Speaker 1: they beat Notre Dame. We had him on the next day.
- 25:46Speaker 1: He's fantastic. I can't wait to talk to him. What
- 25:48Speaker 1: is this conspiracy with you about the sale of the Angels?
- 25:51Speaker 5: So the recent sale of the Lakers has prompted speculation
- 25:54Speaker 5: to think that the Dodgers could be next. And Otani
- 25:57Speaker 5: has a key man clause in his contract with the Dodgers,
- 26:00Speaker 5: which allows him to terminate his contract if certain people
- 26:04Speaker 5: are no longer involved with the organization. In Otani's case,
- 26:07Speaker 5: it applies specifically to Walter, who owns them, and Andrew Friedman,
- 26:12Speaker 5: the president of baseball operations. I think Shohei Otani... He
- 26:16Speaker 5: comes out and he says, I made the Kevin Durant mistake.
- 26:19Speaker 5: I'm the clear best player in baseball. I went to
- 26:21Speaker 5: a team that has just kept adding and adding, most
- 26:24Speaker 5: recently getting back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner Tarek Skubal
- 26:28Speaker 5: at the deadline. And by building the super team led
- 26:31Speaker 5: by Otani, it diminishes his accomplishments where the Dodgers are
- 26:34Speaker 5: overwhelming favorites to win the World Series. They broke baseball.
- 26:37Speaker 5: You have people now rooting for the strike next year.
- 26:40Speaker 5: The reports are he's unlikely to opt out if Walter
- 26:43Speaker 5: sells his Dodger stakes do. But if Otani decides he
- 26:46Speaker 5: wants out, there hasn't been an obvious landing spot for
- 26:50Speaker 5: him until now. Because what if that new team is
- 26:54Speaker 5: his old team? The Angels have had terrible ownership with
- 26:58Speaker 5: Artie Moreno. Otani comes home to right a wrong. Six
- 27:01Speaker 5: years with the Angels. Zero playoff wins. Four-time MVP. Every
- 27:06Speaker 5: new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. Oh, Tony time.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Where's his rim shot?
- 27:18Speaker 1: I'm not going to utter another word until I hear
- 27:23Speaker 1: a rim shot. Thank you, Dan.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Forget what?
- 27:26Speaker 7: What?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 27:31Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Eastern, 12 p.m.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Pacific.
- 27:37Speaker 1: We'll get to Bob Ryan's tweets in a second. Mike
- 27:40Speaker 1: EA helped his son out with a fantasy draft. We
- 27:42Speaker 1: have Charles Huff coming up. Now we're number two. But Taylor,
- 27:47Speaker 1: are you reeling?
- 27:48Speaker 3: I'm confused. I think it's just age.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Where Mel Kiper just started calling you Lance halfway through
- 27:53Speaker 1: that interview.
- 27:56Speaker 5: It was just a strange thing.
- 27:59Speaker 6: You know you're Lance from now on, right? Of course.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Well, you are. But it was odd, right? Because he
- 28:05Speaker 3: started off, he knows it's Taylor. He's spoken to Taylor before.
- 28:09Speaker 3: But it's odd.
- 28:09Speaker 1: As you get older, this stuff happens where he originally
- 28:13Speaker 1: thought he has another producer somewhere in his life named Lance.
- 28:16Speaker 1: And he kept referring to Taylor as Lance, even though
- 28:20Speaker 1: he knew he was talking to Taylor.
- 28:21Speaker 3: It's old age. That's all it is. I love you, Mo.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Taylor, I'm looking at you.
- 28:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 6: You look like a Lance.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yep.
- 28:27Speaker 7: Yep.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Lance Vipolis.
- 28:28Speaker 6: You could totally be a Lance.
- 28:30Speaker 5: My parents actually, my mom actually wanted to name me Dimitri.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Really?
- 28:34Speaker 5: My dad used his veto on that.
- 28:37Speaker 3: He had a veto.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Lance Dimitri Bipolis. I like it.
- 28:41Speaker 5: My life would have been hell if my name was Dimitri.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Wait a second.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Wait a second.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Your dad had a veto on your name? So your
- 28:50Speaker 1: mom wanted to name you Dimitri and your dad said no?
- 28:53Speaker 5: Do you guys know anybody with the name Dimitri? Besides
- 28:57Speaker 5: Demetri Young? I'm Greek. Demetri Young from the 2000s on
- 29:02Speaker 5: the Detroit Tigers?
- 29:03Speaker 1: I think Demetri Hill, University of Florida, probably won a
- 29:06Speaker 1: national championship.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I believe his nickname was the Meat Hook.
- 29:08Speaker 6: I'm not even joking.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Like, look it up. That's the only Dimitri I know.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But I'm just more fascinated with the idea that your
- 29:15Speaker 1: dad was able to veto the name your mom wanted
- 29:17Speaker 1: to give you.
- 29:18Speaker 3: That's insane.
- 29:19Speaker 5: I think my dad pushed back against it, and then
- 29:21Speaker 5: my mom thought about the name and was like, yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 5: that's kind of a dumb name. No offense to any
- 29:25Speaker 5: Dimitris out there.
- 29:27Speaker 6: That's crazy, Lancelot.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Look up Dimitri Hill and tell me how wrong I was.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Because I have a feeling I was wrong. I used
- 29:38Speaker 1: to do a thing where Bob Ross— on Twitter is
- 29:41Speaker 1: fascinating because he'll send out tweets, but you have no
- 29:44Speaker 1: idea what he means exactly. And I love Bob and
- 29:49Speaker 1: he's fantastic. And so we would have Bob on to
- 29:52Speaker 1: explain his tweets. And I am told here that Bob
- 29:54Speaker 1: Ryan had some tweets over the weekend.
- 29:57Speaker 3: About college football. That is not Bob's wheelhouse. Bob's Wheelhouse
- 30:00Speaker 3: is busted. It is the Celtics.
- 30:03Speaker 1: It's Bill Russell and Larry Bird specifically and Ted Williams
- 30:07Speaker 1: and Carl Yastrzemski.
- 30:08Speaker 6: Okay?
- 30:09Speaker 3: That's his wheelhouse.
- 30:10Speaker 1: College football tweets is not something that Bob Ryan does.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Taylor, what happened here?
- 30:15Speaker 5: Well, just to be clear, these were Bob Ryan's tweets
- 30:18Speaker 5: on a college football weekend. They're not about college football.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Good.
- 30:22Speaker 6: Okay.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So he did stay out of his lane.
- 30:24Speaker 6: Yes.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Okay.
- 30:26Speaker 5: When you hear these tweets, there's never been a more
- 30:28Speaker 5: Bob Ryan lane.
- 30:29Speaker 6: Okay.
- 30:30Speaker 5: But it's Friday night. I'm getting ready to go to
- 30:33Speaker 5: sleep and get ready for a big week zero where
- 30:36Speaker 5: North Carolina is playing. And I get a tweet notification
- 30:39Speaker 5: from Bob Ryan at 839 on Friday night. Derek Jeter
- 30:44Speaker 5: did not dive into the stands to catch a ball.
- 30:47Speaker 4: He's right.
- 30:47Speaker 5: He made a nice running catch in the playing field
- 30:50Speaker 5: and his momentum carried him into the stands. Nice play,
- 30:54Speaker 5: but not heroic.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Things you think about on a Friday night headed into
- 30:58Speaker 1: a big college football weekend. That's what Bob thinks about.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I know Bob, he's my friend and he thinks about
- 31:02Speaker 1: it all the time and he's right.
- 31:04Speaker 5: So Bob Ryan did not send a follow-up tweet to that,
- 31:07Speaker 5: but the next day at 5 48 PM, he tweeted again, right?
- 31:13Speaker 5: jeter was daringly reckless and he made a great play
- 31:17Speaker 5: he risked injury he should be commended but he caught
- 31:20Speaker 5: the ball in foul territory and kept on going he
- 31:24Speaker 5: did not dive in the stands almost 24 hours apart
- 31:27Speaker 5: from each other.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Those two tweets so he's still thinking about it um
- 31:31Speaker 1: and there's nothing wrong with that i'm sitting here telling
- 31:33Speaker 1: you i know bob he's a friend he's always thinking
- 31:35Speaker 1: about that play he is i.
- 31:38Speaker 9: I have Bob in a cold sweat waking up at
- 31:40Speaker 9: 2 a.m.
- 31:41Speaker 6: Still thinking about it.
- 31:42Speaker 1: He doesn't like us applying the heroics to Derek Jeter,
- 31:45Speaker 1: the unnecessary heroics.
- 31:47Speaker 3: He gets enough of it. Did he catch the ball
- 31:50Speaker 3: in play, guys? You're Yankee fans.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Did he?
- 31:51Speaker 3: You've seen the play.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:53Speaker 7: Sure.
- 31:53Speaker 3: He sold it a bit too much, right? That dive
- 31:55Speaker 3: into the stands.
- 31:56Speaker 9: No way he makes that catch and doesn't wind up
- 31:59Speaker 9: in the stands. Just because he didn't make the catch
- 32:01Speaker 9: in the stands doesn't mean he could have made the
- 32:03Speaker 9: catch without going.
- 32:04Speaker 6: Into the stands.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the polling. I still got 790
- 32:07Speaker 1: on X. Did Jeter have enough room to pull up?
- 32:11Speaker 5: Stu, you should send out a tweet that says, that
- 32:14Speaker 5: was not a pass interference call. That was a terrible
- 32:17Speaker 5: job by Terry Porter. He stole a national championship from
- 32:21Speaker 5: the Miami Hurricanes.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Right, but I don't care enough about the Hurricanes. Bob
- 32:24Speaker 3: cares very dearly about what it is he's tweeting about.
- 32:27Speaker 1: If you could think of something that I do care about,
- 32:30Speaker 1: and there's not much, and put together a Twitter.
- 32:33Speaker 3: String, like Bob Ryan did, feel free to do so.
- 32:37Speaker 5: It has to be older than 20 years because that
- 32:39Speaker 5: Derek Jeter play was July 1st, 2004. Okay.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of some moments in my sports
- 32:49Speaker 1: history where I'm still upset about it.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Maybe something with Bobby Valentine.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Going with a dark night, putting him in relief. He
- 32:58Speaker 1: kept him in too long. He wrecked his career. I'll
- 33:00Speaker 1: think about it for you, Taylor.
- 33:02Speaker 6: That was ball one to Carlos Beltran. Yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Did Bob have any further tweets? Or was he done
- 33:11Speaker 1: after the two tweets separated by 24 hours?
- 33:14Speaker 5: That was it from that. And then the next tweet
- 33:16Speaker 5: was just him wishing Robert Parrish a happy birthday.
- 33:20Speaker 3: The chief.
- 33:20Speaker 5: Yes. What else do you do if you're Bob Ryan?
- 33:22Speaker 4: I'm sitting here.
- 33:22Speaker 3: I'm telling you guys, this is all he cares about.
- 33:24Speaker 4: That's his wheelhouse.
- 33:25Speaker 3: He would never tweet about college football.
- 33:27Speaker 5: You should just tweet, what a hilarious disguise Bobby Valentine
- 33:30Speaker 5: did in that Mets dugout.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Bobby Orr, he'll tweet about him all day. Italian restaurants
- 33:36Speaker 1: in Boston, he'll tweet about him all day. Robert Parrish,
- 33:40Speaker 1: all day. Dennis Johnson, all day.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Hondo- All day. And Freddie Lynn, his favorite baseball player
- 33:47Speaker 3: of all time. And Jim Rice. And that's what he does.
- 33:50Speaker 3: And Butch Hobson. How about that? Anyway, that's Bob Ryan
- 33:55Speaker 3: for you. What, did I just rattle off all those
- 33:58Speaker 3: Red Sox?
- 34:00Speaker 6: Well, that you're not wrong on any of them.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Yes.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Did you look up Demetri Hill?
- 34:06Speaker 5: Yeah, he was a Florida Gators basketball player.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Boom, meat hook.
- 34:09Speaker 5: I didn't look at the nickname.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Oh, the nickname.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Uh, Mikey, a, it is a fantasy season here. Everyone's
- 34:15Speaker 1: getting ready for their fantasy draft.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Mine is way too late. It's like September 9th or
- 34:19Speaker 3: something like that.
- 34:20Speaker 6: I don't like it. That's the first day of the season.
- 34:22Speaker 3: I know it's bad. I'm not happy about it.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Uh, but anyway, your kid had one, uh, and there
- 34:26Speaker 1: was nothing worse than trying to help your kid with anything.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Uh, so what happened here, Mikey?
- 34:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:32Speaker 9: I've realized that I might need to seek therapy or
- 34:35Speaker 9: just at least look myself in the mirror because my kid,
- 34:39Speaker 9: like his baseball team is like, Hey, let's let them
- 34:41Speaker 9: get together and have a fantasy football league together.
- 34:44Speaker 6: My kid's never played fantasy.
- 34:46Speaker 10: He doesn't even watch the NFL that much, but he's like, yeah,
- 34:48Speaker 10: I would love to do it with my friends. We
- 34:50Speaker 10: sit down to do the draft and I'm like, Hey,
- 34:53Speaker 10: I'm not doing this for you. This is your team.
- 34:55Speaker 10: You're going to do it. I'm just going to be,
- 34:58Speaker 10: if you have any questions, I'm here to help.
- 35:00Speaker 4: All right.
- 35:00Speaker 3: You're a soundboard. You can bounce some things off of me, right?
- 35:03Speaker 6: Sure. If you want to be like, Hey, what's the
- 35:04Speaker 6: difference with this guy and this guy, or who do
- 35:06Speaker 6: I take here? Cause he's never played.
- 35:07Speaker 9: Fantasy that lasted two rounds. That lasted two rounds before
- 35:12Speaker 9: I literally pushed him aside and was like, get out
- 35:15Speaker 9: of the way. You are doing this wrong.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Right. You are not.
- 35:17Speaker 9: No, no, we are not taking Garrett Wilson in the
- 35:20Speaker 9: second round. He doesn't belong there.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yes, but it's his draft. Like, and you said you
- 35:24Speaker 1: wanted nothing to do with it. You're a sounding board.
- 35:26Speaker 1: So let the kid draft. Do we want to draft?
- 35:28Speaker 6: I mean, I don't listen. You're, you're making a lot
- 35:32Speaker 6: of sense to me right now in the moment. This
- 35:35Speaker 6: guy wasn't here. There was no logic to be had
- 35:38Speaker 6: in talking to me.
- 35:39Speaker 9: All I know is he had to pick a better
- 35:40Speaker 9: team and I wasn't going to have my son taking
- 35:42Speaker 9: Garrett Wilson in the second round.
- 35:44Speaker 3: It's embarrassing. When did he take, it was the second
- 35:46Speaker 3: round pick Garrett Wilson.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Wait.
- 35:50Speaker 1: So he ended up taking them. Like you couldn't get
- 35:51Speaker 1: to the computer quick enough to reverse the transaction. So
- 35:55Speaker 1: he was stuck with Garrett Wilson.
- 35:56Speaker 3: And then you took over.
- 35:57Speaker 9: The AI for the league gave him like a D
- 36:00Speaker 9: grade on his draft.
- 36:01Speaker 6: And I was just like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 36:03Speaker 9: No son of mine is going to walk away with
- 36:05Speaker 9: the AI D grade. No, that's not get out of
- 36:08Speaker 9: the way.
- 36:10Speaker 1: So daddy, so daddy came in to clean it up
- 36:12Speaker 1: and try to get him an a what happened?
- 36:14Speaker 3: You just took over the draft and kick the kid out.
- 36:17Speaker 6: Yeah. And you know what?
- 36:18Speaker 9: I wasn't the only one because I know none of
- 36:21Speaker 9: these 10 year olds knew that Marshawn Lloyd was taking
- 36:23Speaker 9: over for Josh Jacobs two hours before that news broke.
- 36:27Speaker 6: Okay. I see what you did, Sean. I know what
- 36:29Speaker 6: you did, Sean. You took over your kid's draft, even
- 36:32Speaker 6: though you pretend you didn't.
- 36:33Speaker 5: I think this was just the dad's draft.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Yes, it was disguised as the kid's draft.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:39Speaker 6: By round three, it might've been.
- 36:41Speaker 3: And all of a sudden Mikey's in his 1000 fantasy league. Yeah.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Our thanks to Mel Kuyper Jr. for joining us in
- 36:49Speaker 1: hour number one. Thanks to Charles Huff as well. The
- 36:52Speaker 1: invitation is still open. Me, Mikey A., and Lance can
- 36:55Speaker 1: go to a game, a Memphis game, and I get
- 36:58Speaker 1: to stand on the sidelines and call a play.
- 37:00Speaker 3: How about that?
- 37:01Speaker 1: Do you have a game targeted, Taylor? Do we have
- 37:03Speaker 1: a Thursday night game, I believe, right? They have a
- 37:05Speaker 1: Thursday night game?
- 37:06Speaker 6: Yeah, ECU.
- 37:07Speaker 5: There are certain things that from this show you really
- 37:10Speaker 5: hope don't stick. And for me, I hope Lance doesn't stick.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Well, it's going to. Whatever, Lance.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Mikey A.
- 37:20Speaker 1: we used to do something way back when, when Dan
- 37:23Speaker 1: and I were doing the show together, a segment called
- 37:25Speaker 1: Celebrity Prognosticator. And a different celebrity would come on every week,
- 37:30Speaker 1: and if they had a winning week, they would continue on.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I think Chris Jericho was the record holder. He was
- 37:35Speaker 1: on for like 14 consecutive weeks, okay?
- 37:38Speaker 3: It was amazing. He just needed to have a winning week.
- 37:41Speaker 1: So I believe Lance has something cut from the same vein.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I'm not certain what it is, but I believe it's
- 37:46Speaker 1: a similar idea to what we did, the Celebrity Prognosticator.
- 37:50Speaker 3: What are you doing? What are you putting together here, Lance?
- 37:52Speaker 6: Go ahead.
- 37:53Speaker 5: Yeah, so by Tuesday this time, it's time to close
- 37:56Speaker 5: the book on week zero and look ahead to week
- 38:00Speaker 5: one in college football. So what better way to look
- 38:03Speaker 5: ahead than get a celebrity to come on to the
- 38:06Speaker 5: show and cook up a nice little parlay.
- 38:08Speaker 1: But you want to stay in week zero, right? It's
- 38:10Speaker 1: never felt better as a Carolina football fan.
- 38:13Speaker 3: You don't want to move on to week one.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Well, we're off this week.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 38:17Speaker 5: And then we have, because we're coming back from Ireland,
- 38:20Speaker 5: bye week for the travel, and then East Tennessee State.
- 38:24Speaker 5: We're 1-0 this week. We've got to just keep our
- 38:26Speaker 5: head down and get back to work.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Well, isn't that a perk, though? I mean, you get
- 38:29Speaker 1: to be 1-0 for two weeks. That's one of the
- 38:31Speaker 1: perks of playing in Dublin.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I mean, it is.
- 38:34Speaker 5: It's a massive perk to know that North Carolina can't
- 38:36Speaker 5: ruin my weekend this weekend.
- 38:39Speaker 1: All right, so what do you have set up for
- 38:42Speaker 1: us here?
- 38:42Speaker 3: What are we doing?
- 38:43Speaker 5: So this is going to be the first edition of
- 38:47Speaker 5: our celebrity guest picker parlay.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:52Speaker 5: It's time for our celebrity guest picker parlay to start
- 38:55Speaker 5: us out in week one. We've got a legend making
- 38:58Speaker 5: the picks. He's a Heisman Trophy winner, a national championship
- 39:02Speaker 5: winning coach, a college football hall of famer, and nobody
- 39:06Speaker 5: has ever pulled off a visor quite like him. The
- 39:10Speaker 5: head ball coach himself, Steve Spurrier.
- 39:14Speaker 7: This is the guest picker for the week from Stu
- 39:18Speaker 7: Gotts and Company. All right, first game, Clemson at LSU.
- 39:23Speaker 7: Taking LSU because they're at home. Baylor versus Auburn. Auburn's
- 39:29Speaker 7: closer to it. I'm going to take Auburn. Louisville versus
- 39:33Speaker 7: Ole Miss.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I think that.
- 39:36Speaker 7: Game's in Nashville. That's going to be, you know, I'm
- 39:40Speaker 7: going to go with Ole Miss, SEC game. SMU at FSU.
- 39:45Speaker 7: I think I got to go with SMU. They got
- 39:48Speaker 7: a good team, I think, this year.
- 39:50Speaker 2: All right, that's my picks.
- 39:51Speaker 7: This is Steve Spurrier, former Gator head ball coach, and
- 39:55Speaker 7: you've been listening to Stugatz and Company. What?
- 39:59Speaker 4: The old ball coach?
- 40:00Speaker 3: I mean, what?
- 40:02Speaker 5: Company nobody says company like.
- 40:04Speaker 1: How did this come together how did this happen i
- 40:06Speaker 1: have never been more delighted than i am right now
- 40:10Speaker 1: and why wasn't spurrier on the show i.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Mean what are we doing he just had time to
- 40:14Speaker 5: fill that little spot right so just to recap he's.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Got time in between rounds you mean rounds of golf
- 40:19Speaker 1: yes right so.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Just to recap he's got lsu.
- 40:22Speaker 3: I didn't even hear it he's got.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Lsu beating clemson right miss beating louisville smu beating florida
- 40:31Speaker 5: state at florida state and then he's got auburn beating
- 40:34Speaker 5: baylor those four together plus 277 little parlay and where
- 40:38Speaker 5: else could he get the analysis of auburn's gonna beat
- 40:42Speaker 5: beat baylor because they're closer to atlanta where that neutral
- 40:45Speaker 5: game is.
- 40:46Speaker 1: His reasoning was a little flimsy but he's the old
- 40:48Speaker 1: ball coach and i don't care i mean.
- 40:51Speaker 9: Question, what's better, the way he says company or the
- 40:55Speaker 9: way Saban says program?
- 40:57Speaker 1: Don't you dare have me play that again, because I will.
- 41:02Speaker 1: One more time, Spurrier, and let's answer Mikey's question.
- 41:07Speaker 7: This is the guest picker for the week from Stu
- 41:11Speaker 7: Gotts and Company. All right, first game, Clemson at LSU.
- 41:16Speaker 7: Taking LSU because they're at home. At home. Baylor versus Auburn.
- 41:21Speaker 6: Auburn's closer to Atlanta. I'm going to take Auburn.
- 41:25Speaker 7: Louisville versus Ole Miss. I think that game's in Nashville.
- 41:29Speaker 7: That's going to be, you know, I'm going to go
- 41:33Speaker 7: with Ole Miss, SEC game. SMU at FSU, I think
- 41:38Speaker 7: I got to go with SMU.
- 41:40Speaker 6: They got a good team, I think, this year.
- 41:42Speaker 2: All right. That's my picks.
- 41:44Speaker 7: This is Steve Spurrier, former Gator head ball coach. And
- 41:48Speaker 7: you've been listening to Stu.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Gots and company.
- 41:50Speaker 3: I love you. I mean, I really do.
- 41:52Speaker 1: He's never going to take the Seminoles ever, ever, or
- 41:56Speaker 1: say anything nice about him.
- 41:58Speaker 3: What was your question, Mikey? I forget.
- 42:01Speaker 9: It was what's better the way he says company or
- 42:04Speaker 9: the way Nick Saban says program.
- 42:06Speaker 4: Oh, wow. Hmm.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I mean, I love Spurrier. Um, I'm torn here. You
- 42:15Speaker 1: should throw in or the way Mel says, Lance.
- 42:18Speaker 5: Until Nick Saban wants to come on this show and
- 42:22Speaker 5: be our celebrity guest parlay picker, I'm signing with Spurrier
- 42:26Speaker 5: every time, the old ball coach.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Yes, I am with Taylor on that. Mikey, you good
- 42:29Speaker 3: with that?
- 42:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm good with that. Company.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Now, does Spurrier know you did four games? He could
- 42:38Speaker 1: go two and two. But does he know if he
- 42:41Speaker 1: has a winning week, he has to come back next
- 42:43Speaker 1: week and do it again?
- 42:45Speaker 5: Well, the problem with this is I only got Spurrier
- 42:48Speaker 5: for this week. I cashed in a once-in-a-lifetime favor to
- 42:53Speaker 5: get the all boat. Leave all of that in there.
- 42:56Speaker 5: What did you say, Lance?
- 42:57Speaker 1: The old ball coach, Lance, is what you were trying
- 43:00Speaker 1: to say. You called in a favor to Spurrier. Why
- 43:03Speaker 1: didn't you just ask me for his number?
- 43:06Speaker 3: I mean.
- 43:08Speaker 5: That mistake's going to keep me up later.
- 43:10Speaker 3: For weeks.
