Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm David Rex from Crispy Danger, and I'm Michelle Matt.
- 0:04Speaker 1: I do the vocals and guitar, I do basin. Whatever
- 0:07Speaker 1: you need, whatever you need. Yeah, we've got a new
- 0:11Speaker 1: single coming out on May the first, and it's we've
- 0:16Speaker 1: best described it as heavy metal disco, but uh, you've
- 0:19Speaker 1: got a better idea.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I actually got got that down to tell it
- 0:22Speaker 2: about a little later on. And that's a bloody great show.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I've never been to a heavy metal disco, but I
- 0:26Speaker 3: can see where you're coming from with it.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Because it gave me those vibes right right.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Man, Well, thanks for joining us, And as you say,
- 0:34Speaker 3: Krispy Danger, Pebby and your debut single, out of Control
- 0:37Speaker 3: this Friday.
- 0:38Speaker 2: May the first. So personally, how you feeling like it's
- 0:41Speaker 2: sort of the debut single guys, it's a bit of
- 0:43Speaker 2: a big one.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's exciting. Yeah you say, yeah, we've been we've
- 0:48Speaker 1: been on working on just trying to like promote it
- 0:50Speaker 1: and everything. So at some point we'll be like, oh cool, exactly, trying.
- 0:55Speaker 2: To safe you stress it out about it.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just we're really busy doing a lot of stuff,
- 1:00Speaker 4: Like when is it I don't know me the first
- 1:02Speaker 4: when is that few days?
- 1:04Speaker 2: I don't know's so true? Can it tell us me
- 1:08Speaker 2: more about the song from the musical point of view
- 1:10Speaker 2: and what you were going forward?
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to say. It just starts with a
- 1:16Speaker 1: really cool basic groove, like a riff, and we sort
- 1:19Speaker 1: of built it all.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Around it, Like it starts off with like you know, yeah,
- 1:24Speaker 4: pounding bass and drums and you know, get your booty moving,
- 1:27Speaker 4: and then it crashes in with the whole band and
- 1:29Speaker 4: kind of lifts you up and.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's it's it's an interesting track, like we
- 1:35Speaker 1: went for something like a little different sounding I think
- 1:37Speaker 1: to a lot of bands where we went for vocals
- 1:42Speaker 1: that are almost spoken, almost wrapped, I don't know what
- 1:45Speaker 1: to call them, like in the verses, and then the
- 1:47Speaker 1: choruses just kick out to like a proper kind of
- 1:49Speaker 1: heavy metal sung chorus. It's quite catchy. So but yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 1: like I mean, it always, you.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Know, it always starts with a riff, Like you know,
- 1:58Speaker 4: you write the riff first down.
- 2:00Speaker 1: That's it, that's it. When you get a good riff,
- 2:01Speaker 1: you kind of get the vibe of what you want
- 2:03Speaker 1: with the song, and you take it from there really.
- 2:05Speaker 4: And then like you build on it and you're just like, yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 4: what do you feel? And you just kind of spout
- 2:10Speaker 4: it out and there you go.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot going on within that one song
- 2:15Speaker 3: musically though, Like you've got there's some funk, there's some
- 2:18Speaker 3: pop sensibilities. You've got heavy riffs, guitar solos, and a
- 2:22Speaker 3: hell of a lot of groove. Like how hard is
- 2:24Speaker 3: it to get the balance right? But like, so there's
- 2:26Speaker 3: so much going on, how hard was it to get
- 2:28Speaker 3: it to balance?
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an interesting question.
- 2:32Speaker 4: I mean it just kind of came and it just
- 2:34Speaker 4: kind of like you feel it and that's what comes out.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I guess. I think the most important thing with a
- 2:39Speaker 1: song like that is not to go overboard with each part.
- 2:43Speaker 1: If you actually listen to it, there's only a few
- 2:45Speaker 1: instruments playing it each time, like the whole band sort
- 2:49Speaker 1: of kicks in and then when the verse starts, it
- 2:51Speaker 1: is just bass, drums, vocals. There is nothing else, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: it just lets the vocals set forward and then it
- 2:56Speaker 1: kind of kicks up a notch for the for the
- 2:58Speaker 1: sort of core us with the whole band kicking back
- 3:01Speaker 1: and builds up. I think that's that's actually kind of
- 3:04Speaker 1: how you get the balance and with the different styles.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I think as long as each part sort of blends
- 3:10Speaker 1: into the other part and it makes sense, like it
- 3:12Speaker 1: doesn't sort of sound weird anyway.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah, along those lines like how do you how do
- 3:17Speaker 3: you know when you've gone too far.
- 3:18Speaker 2: In one duration maybe, or or not far enough another life, which.
- 3:24Speaker 4: God goes like, don't.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Say that, don't do that, don't make that noise. You know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I think you kind of jam it and when it
- 3:33Speaker 1: feels good, you're like, all right, it's ready. M hm.
- 3:37Speaker 1: That's that's very.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Much es that you've been been doing this role. This
- 3:40Speaker 3: isn't your first band, is it.
- 3:43Speaker 1: We we we have not like this. This is the
- 3:46Speaker 1: first song from this band. We've we've jammed a lot,
- 3:48Speaker 1: We've we've played with all sorts of dudes and stuff
- 3:50Speaker 1: like that. It's like different genres, different.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Different Yeah, And I don't think that the biggest thing
- 3:56Speaker 3: I took out of that song was just the feeling
- 3:58Speaker 3: of groove all the way through a lot. It's I'm
- 4:00Speaker 3: not a dancer, I'm a terrible dancer, but it made
- 4:02Speaker 3: me move so fantastic.
- 4:05Speaker 1: That's the something, right, that's the heavy metal disco that's
- 4:09Speaker 1: what we said that because it's sort of got like
- 4:11Speaker 1: almost like the drums are almost like disco hip hop,
- 4:14Speaker 1: but the riffs and the vote they're not at all.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So I think it's it's it's more of a straight
- 4:20Speaker 1: rock song, but it's got kind of that groovy upbeat.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Comes with a music video too. What's going on there?
- 4:29Speaker 2: The best way I can describe.
- 4:30Speaker 3: It is it's it's like controlled schizophrenia.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I like that, you mean, with all the strobes and
- 4:39Speaker 1: just the cut, like.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's jattery, but it makes sense.
- 4:43Speaker 4: It's yeah, it's kind of like us, we're just like
- 4:46Speaker 4: all over the place.
- 4:47Speaker 1: We get you there. If we're gonna put like four
- 4:50Speaker 1: different genres in one song that's on the video, just
- 4:53Speaker 1: fucking hit you in the face a little stream like
- 4:58Speaker 1: that kind of smack in the face.
- 5:01Speaker 3: The track was actually recorded in Melbourne but mixed in
- 5:04Speaker 3: LA That's a long way from home, I do that.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We we really really loved the mixing engineer and getting
- 5:12Speaker 1: the opportunity to actually work with Chris Lord Algae to
- 5:15Speaker 1: do the mix is I mean so dream come true
- 5:18Speaker 1: for any band, especially for a debut release. So you
- 5:22Speaker 1: know he offered to do it there's no chance we're
- 5:25Speaker 1: going to say no to.
- 5:25Speaker 3: That one the offered did he well, we we sent
- 5:29Speaker 3: him along.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Look, we got in contact with his manager he passed
- 5:33Speaker 1: on to Chris. Chris said, I actually like this. I'm
- 5:35Speaker 1: going to do it because it's it's not particularly standard
- 5:38Speaker 1: for new bands to work with with high level guys
- 5:41Speaker 1: like that. We reached out to a few people. I'm
- 5:44Speaker 1: not going to name a couple because because we do
- 5:47Speaker 1: want to work with them in the future, but we
- 5:50Speaker 1: shortlisted it from that and then decided to go with Chris.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Couldn't you couldn't give up the opportunity. I mean like, yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 4: he liked it, and you're like, I'm not going to
- 5:59Speaker 4: say no.
- 6:00Speaker 5: That's a guy that's that's worked with everyone and Green Day,
- 6:04Speaker 5: my Chemical Romance you name it, like Bruce Springstein, the Stones,
- 6:09Speaker 5: like like fucking everyone, right, So I think.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Also we really liked his sound and the way okay
- 6:15Speaker 4: when he does guitars and probably even textures, and that
- 6:19Speaker 4: was really important to us.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Everything about it, Like we wanted a song that didn't
- 6:24Speaker 1: sound sort of radio commercial because we're like, it's funky,
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's catchy, it's all that. But we wanted to keep
- 6:31Speaker 1: some of the organic kind of rock vibe to it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And we thought this guy's great because he's it's a
- 6:36Speaker 1: full analog console. He does everything just with analog mixing
- 6:40Speaker 1: out board gear. Literally only goes into pro tools to
- 6:43Speaker 1: sequence the track and feed it into the machines and
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, And we thought that's great because it's
- 6:47Speaker 1: gonna keep it sounding organic. It's not gonna have like
- 6:50Speaker 1: an auto tuning. It's not gonna have like a quantitized
- 6:53Speaker 1: it's not gonna have like that digital kind of shitty
- 6:56Speaker 1: clean radio sound like. It's just it's gonna fight well people,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I think yeah, I thought.
- 7:01Speaker 4: It because he has a raw style and like we
- 7:04Speaker 4: want like, you know, kind of like raw but sparkly,
- 7:07Speaker 4: kind of like polished but not too polished, and just
- 7:11Speaker 4: like it's got balls.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Jan or Yan bigger Way.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's why I went to him. I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 1: he's got the horness.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So there you.
- 7:21Speaker 1: That's true.
- 7:21Speaker 2: We'll move away from Canadas a little bit.
- 7:23Speaker 3: But I noticed that the files said that there's a
- 7:26Speaker 3: clean radio editor the song much rolls, So does that
- 7:29Speaker 3: mean you're going to be released in two different versions?
- 7:33Speaker 1: We're just releasing the proper version of it. We had
- 7:37Speaker 1: someone asked for a clean radio edit for so we
- 7:41Speaker 1: made it. Made a really quick radio edit that just reverse.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I think there's like two swears on the songs that
- 7:46Speaker 1: are just okay, shied a couple of times. I didn't notice.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I had to go through the lyrics and is this
- 7:53Speaker 1: wearing a funk?
- 7:54Speaker 2: There is?
- 7:57Speaker 1: So yeah, no, we're not releasing that one, but that one.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Anyone that is going to do airplay has a copy
- 8:03Speaker 1: of it. Yeah, if they need to, if they need
- 8:06Speaker 1: to use it, they've got a copy.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I refuse to listen to it. As soon as it
- 8:09Speaker 2: said clean ed it, I'm.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Like, no, no to it. We're not even putting it out.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That's that if someone really needs it, you know.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Fair cool now, I you I mention here is you
- 8:19Speaker 3: a debut single for Christman Danger? So what choose this
- 8:23Speaker 3: song to introduce yourself to the world.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I guess I don't know.
- 8:28Speaker 6: That's a that's a funny one, man. It wass up
- 8:31Speaker 6: between two songs. Actually, we're like it felt right. We
- 8:35Speaker 6: like to play it like it was like kind of
- 8:37Speaker 6: just feel and it was kind.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Of a little different I think to a lot of
- 8:40Speaker 1: bands and to a lot of sounds. We come from
- 8:43Speaker 1: from a very heavy metal thing, and a lot of
- 8:46Speaker 1: the other songs that we're going to put out are
- 8:48Speaker 1: heavier and riffier, and we thought, this one's just kind
- 8:51Speaker 1: of interesting because it's like a groovy one that will
- 8:53Speaker 1: just get a lot of people just excited and feeling
- 8:55Speaker 1: good when they hear it. And it's not like it's
- 8:58Speaker 1: not like pop light, but it's it's more right. It's
- 9:02Speaker 1: more rock and more upbeaten stuff that a lot of
- 9:05Speaker 1: other stuff we do. We thought, yeah, it makes sense
- 9:07Speaker 1: for a first for a first one, for people to
- 9:09Speaker 1: hear it.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yeah, just somehow, like we really enjoyed playing it, and
- 9:12Speaker 4: we were just kind of like, okay, we've got two.
- 9:14Speaker 4: We're kind of like really digging at the moment. What
- 9:16Speaker 4: are we working on? And it just kind of was like,
- 9:19Speaker 4: this feels.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Like number one. Yeah, yeah, bye, Why I just go
- 9:22Speaker 1: to be honest, this one was finished first. That's really
- 9:27Speaker 1: that's really the truth was like, which one is going
- 9:30Speaker 1: to cut? You know, I mean, so luck, random chance,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 9:37Speaker 3: So you pretty much already answered this without answering it.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But is it a standalone track or is it part
- 9:42Speaker 3: of a bigger picture.
- 9:44Speaker 4: This is a.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Standalone track, but that's actually a really good question because
- 9:48Speaker 1: thematically it ties into the second single, And what we've
- 9:52Speaker 1: done with the artwork is get the same artist We've
- 9:55Speaker 1: given him the lyrics we've done in both songs, and
- 9:58Speaker 1: has done a piece of art for this one, and
- 10:00Speaker 1: then a piece of art that matches it for the
- 10:02Speaker 1: second one, which is actually gonna continue kind of the
- 10:05Speaker 1: story from this track, so it is actually part of
- 10:09Speaker 1: a bigger picture. Finally, enough, if you look at the
- 10:12Speaker 1: artwork on this one, you've got the girl, she's got
- 10:13Speaker 1: the glasses. There's all these pills.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I loved it. It was awesome.
- 10:17Speaker 1: The next one coming up like it's it's a close
- 10:20Speaker 1: up on the pills. You know you're gonna find out
- 10:22Speaker 1: what's going on. I mean, I'm not going to tell
- 10:24Speaker 1: you what's going on, but you look at the pills
- 10:25Speaker 1: and you'll be like, ah, okay, they're not drugs. There's
- 10:28Speaker 1: something else. Yeah, but you'll have to wait. They're a
- 10:32Speaker 1: different kind of trone, so it'll it'll it's interesting, it'll
- 10:35Speaker 1: tie into something, right.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Is that going to be a feature of your work?
- 10:38Speaker 3: Are you're going to keep things thematic over the course
- 10:41Speaker 3: of your Journey or look, we're not.
- 10:42Speaker 1: A way concept on but in a way, I mean lyrically,
- 10:46Speaker 1: the two songs are similar lyrically but musically quite different. Yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Like they.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Weren't written together to be thematically the same, and like
- 10:53Speaker 4: you didn't even really notice because you're in it.
- 10:55Speaker 1: You were just like, the themes of this are the same.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And then we just went, let's get the same artist
- 10:59Speaker 1: to do on this.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah, and then we kind of like they're like a
- 11:04Speaker 4: pair kind of thing, like yeah, and in a way
- 11:07Speaker 4: saying similar things lyrically but musically pretty different.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Speaking of musically different, is how to control a good
- 11:16Speaker 3: sonic representation of what to expect from you guys in
- 11:18Speaker 3: the future, or like a little.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Fifty fifty Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think we're in really eclectic band. Like I've asked
- 11:27Speaker 1: a few people like, who do you think we sound like?
- 11:29Speaker 1: And people will say they'll go Metallica, they'll go Corn,
- 11:33Speaker 1: They'll they'll they'll go like Aussie, they'll go Faith No More,
- 11:36Speaker 1: they'll go write against some shit. So it just goes everywhere.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Someone will say, hey, you sound like Rob Zombie in
- 11:41Speaker 4: this song. Hey, in this song, you sound like Yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 4: And it's kind of like that's why I like, Yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 4: some guys said Faith there more and I was like, yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 4: because Faith there more eclectic as well.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yeah, any album you put on, you've got eight different genres.
- 11:55Speaker 1: It'll start like you know, with a punk song, it'll
- 11:57Speaker 1: go into like a pop song, it'll go into like
- 11:59Speaker 1: a streaming him a song. So I think that's kind
- 12:02Speaker 1: of what you can expect from us. Really. Yeah, I
- 12:05Speaker 1: think I think the musicians are going to tie it
- 12:06Speaker 1: all together. My vocals are going to tie it together.
- 12:08Speaker 1: But really you're going to get a few different styles
- 12:10Speaker 1: in there.
- 12:11Speaker 4: But yeah, like some of the songs get as we said,
- 12:14Speaker 4: kind of like more heavy metal. And also there's there's
- 12:18Speaker 4: a theme where like you know, the low vocals, the
- 12:20Speaker 4: bass and drums and then like building it up and
- 12:23Speaker 4: that kind of thing. You can see in it some
- 12:24Speaker 4: some of the songs musically, and that's what kind of
- 12:27Speaker 4: ties it together.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Like the I think the energy ties it together the most.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 12:32Speaker 3: But you guys are brother and sister and you haven't
- 12:34Speaker 3: head butted each other yet.
- 12:40Speaker 1: That's how I am. All right, I'm done, chuck it. Yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 1: that's right, that's right.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Now you've been playing music together your whole life.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, like not like most of the time, like most
- 12:52Speaker 1: of it. When we both decided to do rock music,
- 12:56Speaker 1: then we just did everything together after that really.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Because like like in school bands and stuff, I was
- 13:01Speaker 4: playing like funk and like big band stuff like James
- 13:04Speaker 4: Brown and like Kendricks.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And yeah, and I wasn't playing anything. I was just
- 13:10Speaker 1: doing the drugs.
- 13:11Speaker 2: You just want those little bills. Well, yeah, but like you.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Were listening to more punk stuff and then you go
- 13:18Speaker 1: into metal. Yeah, you got me into metal. Yeah, that's it.
- 13:22Speaker 1: That's it. I was very into it, like like my
- 13:25Speaker 1: big thing was the Big Four, you know, and then
- 13:28Speaker 1: you wave with British heavy metal, so you're there's not
- 13:30Speaker 1: much of that in the song, but there's a there's
- 13:32Speaker 1: just a touch, like if you listen to the guitar
- 13:34Speaker 1: solo or something, you you'll get you know, there's a
- 13:38Speaker 1: little bit of carry king in there. There's a little
- 13:39Speaker 1: bit of KK downing in there. Not the rest of
- 13:44Speaker 1: the song, but the song that you can kind of
- 13:46Speaker 1: hear where it comes from.
- 13:47Speaker 4: It's kind of like the stuff we listened to is
- 13:50Speaker 4: like a wide variety of genres.
- 13:52Speaker 1: You've got like the funky fucking bass for it fall
- 13:54Speaker 1: through it. So maybe that's it comes together, doesn't it.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Maybe shows coming up with people can come in check
- 14:00Speaker 2: you out.
- 14:00Speaker 1: We don't have any shows booked right now. Yeah MCGW
- 14:05Speaker 1: weeks yea.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Hopefully accident is not playing because we'll lose.
- 14:10Speaker 1: We'll literally like in the studio finishing the second track
- 14:13Speaker 1: and then we're going to book a bunch of shows.
- 14:15Speaker 1: So unfortunately we don't have anything to plug.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, place for people to people to catch up and
- 14:22Speaker 3: keep up the date.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, our instagram is good, our website's good. Our
- 14:28Speaker 1: TikTok's awful. Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Is going to have the video on the first two.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It currently has nothing on it. It's gonna have the video.
- 14:42Speaker 3: If you's make it up this way made and you
- 14:44Speaker 3: need to hand booking booking gigs, let me know and
- 14:46Speaker 3: I'll put you under a few venues up here.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Oh fantastic, Because I mean, playing live is like our
- 14:51Speaker 4: favorite thing.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Like whatever likely IS's a lot of fun live. It
- 14:55Speaker 3: would be an interesting watch.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 14:59Speaker 4: It's like we It's like us in the video, only
- 15:01Speaker 4: we're not always going to be wearing fancy, fine suits
