Transcript
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Writers and artists seem to be prone to discouragement.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: How many stories have you heard about writers who are addicted to alcohol, battling personal demons, or even ones who have taken their own life?
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: It's not easy to be a writer.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: We spend our lives putting our stories, our thoughts, and our emotions out there.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it feels a bit like your heart gets trampled on.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: This is why we need all the encouragement we can get.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: But how do you create a ready source of encouragement for those dark days?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Well, the answer is pretty simple.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: You keep an encouragement file.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Anytime somebody sends you an email, a letter, a text, or other communication that encourages you, make sure and hang on to it.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: You can print it off or you can save it as a digital file.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I keep both kinds.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I have a big box where I store all the nice letters and cards people have given to me over the years, but I also keep a notebook in my Evernote app, simply titled Encouragement.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So whenever you're discouraged, take a few minutes and look through those files.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: You'll soon remember how you're making a difference and impacting other people's lives.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: You know, it's really easy to forget this in the push and pull of everyday life.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: That's why you have to take a few moments now and then to go through these notes, to remind yourself how you have impacted people's lives, and to remember the joy of why we do writing in the first place.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Oscar Wilde said, When it rains, look for rainbows.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: When it's dark, look for stars.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: On your darkest days, take a look in your encouragement file, and that's exactly where you'll find those stars and rainbows.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to let you know about our daily writer membership community.
