- 3:08on some of the daily posts and, and, and things that I do on on
- 3:11like Facebook or Instagram. I'm going to try to ramp that up
- 3:14a bit. But this time of year for a lot
- 3:17of us, I know we got a lot of things going on with family and,
- 3:21and gatherings and celebrations and headspace being what it is
- 3:26and, and kind of getting into a funk or just whatever.
- 3:30So hopefully I'll be getting back into the swing of things.
- 3:32But talking about getting into the swing of things, we've got a
- 3:35return guest coming back on the show this this season and for
- 3:39this week, you guys want to check out some other episodes
- 3:43that I've had this guest on. They'll be linked down below in
- 3:46the description area. And for those of you just
- 3:49listening on annotated in the podcast show notes.
- 3:53And I am talking about Blake Russell, who is the mind, the
- 3:58myth, the man, the legend, the, the, the, the, the storyteller
- 4:02behind Skull That works. It's a musical project kind of
- 4:06based out of the northern Alabama area close to around
- 4:10Huntsville. And Blake's going to be talking
- 4:12with us today about something that he's had on his mind when
- 4:16it comes to heathens, communicating to non heathens
- 4:21and using terms that might be confusing or not familiar to to
- 4:26non heathens. And some of the challenges that
- 4:29we can have with that communication, right, coming up
- 4:31with either ways of of relating with them or them relating with
- 4:35us. So I'm going to go ahead and
- 4:37welcome Blake onto the show now. So give it up for Blake Russell
- 4:41of Scalded Works. And there he is.
- 4:48What's going on, Blake? Go through your.
- 4:53Yeah, yeah, this is by the time. So for people listening.
- 4:58Really how you if you're supposed to say it with the R or
- 5:00not? Because I got, I got chastised
- 5:02for that on a Facebook post earlier today.
- 5:05So. Which one?
- 5:07The first one I don't know it one is the.
- 5:10Other gother I think Gother, yeah.
- 5:14But somebody just said with it was without the R if it was
- 5:18singular, 1 was singular, 1 was plural.
- 5:22For for what? For Yule.
- 5:24Yeah, the IT was the GO with the little, I forgot what.
- 5:28The name of the Ed Yeah, yeah, yeah oh Oh yeah yeah, yeah,
- 5:32yeah, yeah so. Yeah, Ghostlyol or gothyol?
- 5:36Yeah. Gothyol.
- 5:37Yeah, Gothyol is like that. So it makes that kind of the Ed
- 5:41sound. So it like then done, you know?
- 5:44So yeah, I thought you were talking about a different word.
- 5:46I'm misunderstood. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:49But good you'll happy you, yes. Happy you'll marry you all.
- 5:52Yeah. This is the night that is the
- 5:55first night of of the pre Christian historical heathen.
- 5:58You all right, So you all is three nights and today, the time
- 6:01of that we're recording this. It is the first of those three
- 6:05nights. So it's the wolf moon.
- 6:09And so if you know for people that that catch this, by the
- 6:11time they're listening, you know, it'll have we'll have
- 6:14already passed it or we'll be at the very tail end of it, but
- 6:16we'll still be on that that full moon cycle.
- 6:18So for those of you that do catch this very first day that
- 6:22it airs, you know, you'll tie blessings to all of you out here
- 6:26and and yeah, and welcome back to the show, Blake.
- 6:29This is like I think know what your third third return
- 6:32something like that. You've been on the show 3 times.
- 6:34Six or seventh? Six or seventh?
- 6:36Dang, I've short changed you there, but sorry about that.
- 6:39Yeah. We've done 6 pieces of this.
- 6:41So I mean, I, I, I, I have some highlights that I keep in mind,
- 6:44but then there's like, maybe I missed a few.
- 6:46Apparently I did. I've been on and off since the
- 6:48third. I think the third season, maybe
- 6:50the second season. OK, Yeah, I'm going to have to
- 6:53go back because I want people to check out some of the other
- 6:55stuff we've talked about. It's always, it's always good to
- 6:57get you back here and hear what's going on in that mind
- 7:01fire of yours. You know, you've got you've got
- 7:03music that you're working on now, of course.
- 7:05So how's that been going for you?
- 7:08Frustrating. Really.
- 7:11I, I haven't, I haven't recorded any.
- 7:14I haven't recorded anything by myself in over two years time
- 7:18since my first and last, which which my first is my last song.
- 7:23So I only had one song that was produced that was produced by
- 7:26myself and released. So I had I just had the bug like
- 7:32this weekend. It was snowing and stuff, cold
- 7:36snowing in. So I just got the tackle harp
- 7:38out and just started playing something and then just kind of
- 7:42looped it and then just recorded some drums and, and now that I
- 7:46have more better drums, it's like sounds really, really nice.
- 7:51But getting the the render is kind of working around the doll
- 7:55again for for the first time, and oh wow, it's like you're
- 7:58relearning how to ride a bicycle.
- 8:02Yeah. So you, you, you, you do all
- 8:04your own production and stuff you don't like, send it off
- 8:07anywhere and you got your own I guess like a home studio that
- 8:09you record in or. Or yeah, I just, I just recorded
- 8:12on my laptop and stuff basically.
- 8:15But I do have a friend who also has a studio that I can go to
- 8:19any time. But getting out there is a
- 8:22little bit of a arrangement issue.
- 8:27Sure. Yeah, yeah, I get that.
- 8:30Like find the find the time, the line that lines up at this time
- 8:35easily. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:37Yeah. What's do you have a time frame
- 8:40of when you might be putting this song out here?
- 8:43Is it is it a song that you're going to?
- 8:44Release to to. And and put out for like
- 8:47download and stuff or or. Or it's.
- 8:49Going to be for streaming for right now.
- 8:51I haven't thought about downloads.
- 8:54I need to I need to I need to look into that more often.
- 8:56I need to see how the I I probably need to get something
- 8:59like what was it? My mice let's me now it's
- 9:06whatever that downloading service.
- 9:09So there's like disco kid, there's a few other like.
- 9:11A band camp I think has one where you can.
- 9:13Put it up. There district is where I go
- 9:15through, but I'm I was talking about there's another one where
- 9:18people can just download your music instead of just streaming.
- 9:22Band camp. Maybe I think it was band camp
- 9:25like that or something. Yeah, and I know a few artists
- 9:29who put music out on band camp and every Friday, every Friday
- 9:35of the week, band camp has artist.
- 9:37They call it like Artist Fridays, where if you go and you
- 9:40buy the album or a song, just a track, like you don't have to
- 9:43buy a whole album. If you buy a track or if you buy
- 9:45a whole album, 100% of the money that the album sells for goes to
- 9:53the artist because you know, it's a platform.
- 9:56The, the platform's going to take a percentage, I'm sure.
- 9:58I don't know what that is. So during, you know, during the
- 10:01rest of the time, anybody that buys the album, you know, if
- 10:04it's a $15 album, you might get 12.
- 10:06I don't know what I don't know what it is.
- 10:07But if if people go and they buy the, the music and download it,
- 10:12no matter what it is, the full amount, 100% of it goes to the
- 10:15artist on band camp Fridays, which I think is pretty hip.
- 10:18I think that's. Yeah, and Band Camp is one.
- 10:20Band Camp actually is older than actually all these streaming
- 10:23services actually. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 10:26Remember SoundCloud too. Remember SoundCloud?
- 10:28SoundCloud, yeah, SoundCloud band camp.
- 10:31That's where people were going to put these one songs out
- 10:34there, these small bands just like these big albums.
- 10:38And and then now we have like all these streaming services.
- 10:44But before, before, between those two, it was like you had
- 10:48radio, Internet radio. Yep.
- 10:52I think there's still a few Internet radio stations out
- 10:55there. I don't know.
- 10:57I'm never like stuck at a even though I work at a computer all
- 10:59day. Like I'm never just like putting
- 11:01on an Internet radio to listen to stuff.
- 11:03It's it's, that's not my thing. Maybe it is for?
- 11:05Others, but well, it, it got where, where it, well, Spotify,
- 11:11or as I call it, swat the fly. It it's gotten, it's gotten
- 11:17where it's gotten to where it just repeats the same old things
- 11:20over and over again. If you put on a on a radio
- 11:22shuffle. But I do like to use Spotify's
- 11:26radio feature based on the songs based on the artist or the song
- 11:31that I'm listening to so I can work, so I can discover new
- 11:35music. Yeah, they also got that thing
- 11:37called smart shuffle where like if you, let's say you want to
- 11:42play, you know, high lung radio or Wardruno radio or whatever
- 11:47radio type where it's all that artist plus other things.
- 11:50You can, you can set it to, it's called smart shuffle and it
- 11:54will, it will suggest and, and, and play songs of a similar
- 11:59genre or style randomly, you know, so and then if you like
- 12:04it, you can add it to the playlist or add it to you're
- 12:07like things or whatever. So yeah.
- 12:09So I'm assuming you're on Spotify, right?
- 12:11Skulbicworks is. Yeah, I'm on, I'm on every
- 12:15streaming service you can think of right now.
- 12:17I'm on District Head does me where I it puts me on all kinds
- 12:23of things. Like I think it puts me even on
- 12:25iHeartRadio as well and Pandora, but it also puts me on Spotify,
- 12:33Apple iTunes. Yeah.
- 12:36Yeah, what's what's the other one?
- 12:37There's one of them that's real funky.
- 12:39I have never heard it before until I went to signed up for
- 12:44distro kids such with AD or something.
- 12:47It's not. Oh, Deezer, maybe.
- 12:49Deezer. Yeah.
- 12:50Deezer. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:52I'm like, I'm like, who used that?
- 12:55Deez Nuts. You know.
- 12:59Yeah, comment below. Comment below if you use Deezer
- 13:03please. I won't know who, I won't know
- 13:06who who uses the user. Just let me know.
- 13:11So. Yeah, I'm on everything because
- 13:15that's what District Kid does for me.
- 13:17It allows me to do that, but it doesn't allow me to get
- 13:21discovered very well. So yeah, but that one song has
- 13:29has not even scratched the surface of getting like over 50
- 13:34plays yet. So really anywhere.
- 13:38Or combined. On Spotify on any of them, like
- 13:42Discovery on there is like crazy.
- 13:45I think what happened was back when I first put it on there,
- 13:48they had a system. I think their system was
- 13:50basically have how many they wouldn't promote just people
- 13:54with one song song. They would have to get like
- 13:56multiple songs in there. Oh, I see.
- 13:59That's the reason why I'm trying to pump out as much as I can.
- 14:03So my goal, my goal for this year is to at least put out a
- 14:07new song at least once a month or twice a month do.
- 14:14You have anything? I know you said you're working
- 14:15on something right now, so is this the first of more to come?
- 14:19Maybe or? Yes, yes.
- 14:22Awesome. And hopefully I have others that
- 14:28have written. I'm going to try to get those
- 14:29out. One of the ones that I'm right
- 14:32I've written already I am having some difficult trouble with
- 14:35right now because it's got some weird timing issues that I can't
- 14:38figure out, especially with the especially with setting a click
- 14:43track to it is like how do I, how do I get this in meter so I
- 14:49can play play along to like the Metrodome, you know?
- 14:55Oh, I see. Yeah.
- 14:57Interesting. I want to try something real
- 14:59quick. I don't know if it's going to
- 15:00work or not. Let me.
- 15:03See if it will. Yeah.
- 15:07Where did my Where did my camera go?
- 15:10You're not frozen my end, you're frozen on my end.
- 15:15Yeah, hold on a second. I might not hold on.
- 15:25Let's see. Let me try this sometimes.
- 15:34Sometimes my camera glitches all which for those of you that
- 15:39watch this show, you know it's a It's not a deal breaker, but it
- 15:43can definitely be frustrating. Oh, that's part of the
- 15:47entertainment. Yeah, part of the enjoyment, I
- 15:51guess. I guess you could say part of
- 15:52the. Part of the entertainment.
- 15:54Is that what you said? Yeah.
- 15:57I guess you. Know.
- 16:02Yeah. Can you hear me?
- 16:03Yeah. Can you hear me?
- 16:05Yeah. Don't ask me.
- 16:09It says that we're still recording.
- 16:11Don't ask me how. Yeah, I even exit out.
- 16:15I refreshed my browser as well, so.
- 16:17Yeah, yeah. Don't know what happened there.
- 16:21All I know is whatever I was going to try, I'm not going to
- 16:23try again. All I was trying.
- 16:25To do all. I was trying to do Blake is show
- 16:28people what or have people listen to to to your song.
- 16:33I just opened Spotify and I was going to share my thing to I was
- 16:37going to share my screen to to have them listen to to it and
- 16:41and then next thing you know, we run into.
- 16:43To all that so. Anyways, the name of the song is
- 16:49what the one? That you have call the
- 16:51ancestors, call the ancestors. OK, so for people's interest,
- 16:57let's get Blake up to some more listens or more streams or more
- 17:01downloads or whatever, at least on Spotify.
- 17:03So we'll have a link to that annotated down below on Spotify,
- 17:09and you can find it other places too.
- 17:11You can find it on Apple or iTunes.
- 17:14You can find it on me out there or a Deezer, right?
- 17:16Comment below. Let us know if that's where you
- 17:19that's where you're catching your music.
- 17:23I took a look at, I took a look at see what it was about and see
- 17:26if it was any and how it flowed and stuff.
- 17:28And I I'm like, I still like Spotify better.
- 17:32Yeah. For its, I guess it's like I
- 17:35just don't, I can't warrant like two or three things.
- 17:41Yeah. Well, maybe we'll get some more
- 17:43listens for you out here. So check it out folks.
- 17:47All right, so now, before we before we run into any more
- 17:50unplanned technical issues, I don't know what the heck that
- 17:54was, but this that that was new. We're we're we're just finding
- 17:58out new things all all around this year.
- 18:01It seems there's just all kinds of new things that were, but you
- 18:05had you had something that you wanted to to share or talk
- 18:09about. Like.
- 18:11Yeah. So what was it that you were
- 18:13facing recently that you wanted to rap about?
- 18:17Well, it's not really a major problem for me.
- 18:21Hang on, let me It's not really a major problem for me at all.
- 18:25But it I do sometimes find myself in a situation where I
- 18:29have to explain myself when it comes to using words that we use
- 18:33as heathens. Like for instance, weird, or as
- 18:37I use it, I call it ERT you know, because that's the Old
- 18:42Norse variation, because weird is angle, I think.
- 18:45Was it Anglo-Saxon or? Weird is AI think weird is an
- 18:51Anglo-Saxon word that. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:54Yeah, I believe so. I believe that's where it's
- 18:57origination, yeah. Yeah, it's either or Old
- 19:00English. Yeah, well, Anglo-Saxon they,
- 19:05they did speak, they spoke Old English.
- 19:06So. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:10I think it is. Yeah, and then then also things
- 19:16like like, say, for instance, like they tear for our land
- 19:19spirits. And sorry, I kicked the mic.
- 19:26You're fine. But see, I'm trying to think of
- 19:31other words. I mean like explaining our God.
- 19:34Or log you. Know that's another log.
- 19:36Oh yeah. Or log.
- 19:38Yeah, yeah. Like a Megan or Megan for our
- 19:45the energy force, you know? Oh yeah, Maine.
- 19:48Yeah, like my. Maine.
- 19:50Maine, Yeah. Yeah, because a lot of people
- 19:55would probably refer it to as chakra.
- 19:59Oh, is that like? Is that an equivalent term or
- 20:01something similar? I think it'd be I think it would
- 20:03be close to equivalent because it's the same kind of concept.
- 20:06Actually, if you look at it, if some people who was attest to
- 20:12our main being like a magnetic field around our body, they also
- 20:20lines up with the the Hindu beliefs of chakra systems or chi
- 20:27or chi in Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:31Internal force, that internal energy.
- 20:34Yeah, yeah. Like it's easy to explain, like
- 20:37the gods, you know, like you ever say Odin or Woden or Thunar
- 20:43Thor, you know, they, they're mostly of them are familiar with
- 20:46those names. But when I when I tried to
- 20:51explain, when I tried to explain things, I always I always saw
- 20:55myself trying to walk around my words to explain or to describe
- 21:00things that in a more of a central language.
- 21:07Yeah. Do you are you, are you, are you
- 21:09seeing this under in like in a certain context, or are you just
- 21:12saying like, you know, because I'm you're talking about words
- 21:15that that heathenry, you know, is familiar with or heathens are
- 21:19familiar with. So interacting with non
- 21:21heathens. Yeah.
- 21:22The the conversation might come up or the word might come up
- 21:25where the, you know, the words, the conversation comes up with
- 21:28the words mentioned and then they're going, huh, What is
- 21:30that? Is that kind of what you're?
- 21:33Yeah, it's sort of like that. It's like I feel like I have to
- 21:35explain it, you know, instead of just just go ahead and blurt the
- 21:39word out, you know, because even though it has multiple meanings
- 21:46across multiple different languages, you know, again,
- 21:52that's modern English speaking. People don't, especially
- 21:55esoteric people. They don't all know the whole
- 21:59terminology that we use. Yeah, oh man, there's, there's
- 22:03one particular one I was thinking of when you were saying
- 22:05all this, that there's one particular word that I've found
- 22:08myself having to explain in depth a lot, even for even for
- 22:15heathens. And that word is Frith.
- 22:17Frith is a word that misused and misunderstood a lot, even in
- 22:22heathens. Yeah, I don't.
- 22:25I I have come to the two terms of when I use it, I don't use it
- 22:31very lightly. Yeah.
- 22:35But like I like whenever I say use the word Frith, it means I
- 22:40use it when I I refer to somebody that I'm own very, very
- 22:43well speaking terms with. Like if I talk about some, if I
- 22:48say use the word Frith to somebody else, it's always about
- 22:51somebody else that I'm very close to.
- 22:53Like, but I would say like yesterday, me, me and my best
- 22:58friend, such and such, we shared a Frith together at over at my
- 23:03house over a nice bonfire and some some boudin and some beers.
- 23:12Yeah. Right.
- 23:15Yeah, Well, I mean, and, and for that matter, you know, when you,
- 23:17when we are referring, when we, when we talk about Frith, for
- 23:20example, we'll just use this one word as a term, you know, to to
- 23:23kind of go into this a bit more. It's interesting that you say
- 23:26that you connect that word to be only used for you with someone
- 23:31who you are very, very close with and on very good speaking
- 23:34terms, as you say, with, right, almost like their family.
- 23:37And what's, yeah, what's interesting about Frith is the
- 23:42bonds that Frith, you know, the things that entail, what Frith
- 23:48is made-up of is so there's peace, there's there's
- 23:51obligation, there's but there's so many things about it that
- 23:53that reflect a very kinship based understanding of a
- 23:58connection, right. So you, you, you.
- 24:01Reserve that term and you reserve the meaning of what that
- 24:05term is and everything that it encompasses to folks that are
- 24:10like your kin and your family and so forth.
- 24:14So it may, you know, that tracks and that's an interesting way to
- 24:16put it, you know, people that you're, you know, really, really
- 24:19close to like family with. Yeah.
- 24:22And every time I hear somebody use it out of that context, you
- 24:29know, it's like I'm like, I want to take, I want to take them,
- 24:34put them in the box, put that box in.
- 24:36So a smaller box, a bigger box, put that box in the bigger box,
- 24:40then ship it off to myself. And then when it comes to
- 24:42myself, I want to smash with a hammer reference.
- 24:50You get that reference if you don't get that reference.
- 24:55How, how often do you see it? And like, in what ways do you
- 24:58see it being misrepresented or misused?
- 25:01Like what are some things that you've seen Frith being used on
- 25:05as a term and and you're going like you want to do like that?
- 25:09Every time I look online. Oh yeah, like every time I see
- 25:14somebody talk about let's let's let's join up and spend Frith
- 25:20together here, I'm like, I don't know you that well.
- 25:25Yeah, I'll come over here and spend grit with you, but that's
- 25:28it. Yeah.
- 25:30Or have that relationship of a grit stead or or.
- 25:32Yeah, sure. Yeah.
- 25:34Yeah, OK. I'll come over there and be
- 25:36peaceful, but I'm not I'm going to I'll share fellowship with
- 25:38you. That's where I like that term
- 25:41better is like if somebody just wants to say let's just like
- 25:44come and share frit. I'm like, no, I will.
- 25:47I will come and share fellowship with you.
- 25:49Yeah, we'll get to know you a bit, you know.
- 25:51Yeah, yeah. Yeah, have a horn or two, a
- 25:53whale or something and get to know each other a bit.
- 25:55But yeah, there's no Frith between us because I'm not
- 25:58obligated to do anything for you if I don't know you.
- 26:01Right. It's yeah, it's just like hell.
- 26:03Like when I have close friends over again, that's what I like I
- 26:08said, that's where I have, that's where my Frith is.
- 26:11That's where I spend that time period and the one thing is you
- 26:17can't really to me, you can't really have Frith unless you
- 26:22feel like strangling get if you have know somebody enough to
- 26:25want to strangle them sometimes like you're.
- 26:29Staying on. The blows you're going to come
- 26:32to blows with those people that you have Frith with and.
- 26:35That is a keen observation, because not.
- 26:41It's like you want to beat, you want to, you love him, you love
- 26:45him to death, but you want to, you want to beat the you want to
- 26:50beat some sense into him sometimes.
- 26:52Because you love him so much, right?
- 26:54Yeah, exactly. Like I have AI have a friend,
- 26:57I'm not going to mention his name on him.
- 26:59He knows who he is. I try so much to get him to step
- 27:04outside his comfort zone, outside his box, but he don't go
- 27:07to any events with me like major big things locally.
- 27:11He don't go to the meetery with me.
- 27:12He don't go to anywhere except for he don't even go out to eat
- 27:19because he is he's on the I'm on the I'm on the autistic
- 27:23spectrum, but he's a little bit more on so on that, but he still
- 27:27is low support needs, but he has well, I used to be kind of like
- 27:34him back the back back when that was his age because he's like
- 27:37four years younger than I am. But where I was extremely
- 27:42glorophobic, where I did not want to go into like places.
- 27:46I don't like going to Walmart half the time, but I've gotten
- 27:48better about it and being in crowded places have has not
- 27:54bothered me in about two years. That's good.
- 27:59So so he's kind of that way. He doesn't like people staring
- 28:05at he has a feeling of being watched or people staring at him
- 28:09or judging him, I guess, or and I'm trying to get him out there
- 28:14and say, hey, look, these guys are just great.
- 28:17You're going to have fun here. You're going to get you're going
- 28:19to have some have something to drink in you so you can feel
- 28:22loose. You know, the needle flow, you
- 28:26know, you'll be feeling very loose.
- 28:28You'll be you might win a door prize or something.
- 28:32Right, you know, get a few high. Fives here and there, you know,
- 28:35whatever. Yeah.
- 28:36These people don't judge you. They don't.
- 28:38They don't They don't. They don't what's the word I'm
- 28:44looking for? They don't chastise you.
- 28:48They don't They don't say anything negative towards you.
- 28:51They, they were actually, when I first went there, I was scared
- 28:54to go in there because I heard rumors about this place or about
- 28:57the people that some of the people that went to this place.
- 28:59And then when I went there for the first time, like was it 2
- 29:04years ago? You talking about Ravenwood
- 29:07metering? Yeah.
- 29:08Or some? Yeah.
- 29:09When I first went there, when I first went there, right there,
- 29:13the day of the Highland concert, I felt nothing but warm, open
- 29:17arms. So I started going there and
- 29:21that's, that's the best thing of it, you know, Like you go, I go
- 29:29in there. Every time I go in there, Roo
- 29:30gives me a hug. Roo is good people you know.
- 29:33You're not the only one that I know who also knows Roo.
- 29:35I've known Roo for for years. Yeah.
- 29:39And, but, and, and she's always been very kind.
- 29:41I've written her runes for her once or twice.
- 29:45And yeah, I know another fella. She was one part of the Kendra
- 29:50that was joining one time before it dissolved.
- 29:53Oh yeah. Yeah, that's how I knew her.
- 29:56I saw her like online a lot of times and stuff.
- 29:59Yeah. She's good people.
- 30:01She's heart, you know, she's got a good heart.
- 30:03Yeah. But yeah, I get it.
- 30:04You know you, it's tough when you've got, you know, certain
- 30:08things. That you live.
- 30:09With as a person, you know, especially being on the
- 30:13spectrum, you're you're. Yeah.
- 30:15Like you're under that scrutiny or you're thinking of this or
- 30:18you're thinking of that. And it's, it can be definitely
- 30:20tough to to break outside of that comfort zone.
- 30:22And I know what it's like to be frustrated with people that you
- 30:27love. So dearly that you just want to
- 30:29shake them. You just want to smack them.
- 30:31You, you know, you'll be like, come on, get, get, get with the
- 30:33program, man. Like this?
- 30:34Is so you're. Good.
- 30:35Yeah, yeah. Get out, get some fresh air,
- 30:39touch some grass, hug a tree. Right.
- 30:43Pick some mushrooms. Maybe eats the mushrooms, you
- 30:46know that that helps too well. The right ones.
- 30:49The right ones? Yeah, if you can find them.
- 30:53You can eat all mushrooms at least once.
- 30:55We'll we'll put it that way. Just be careful out.
- 30:57There well, a lot of the majority ones are the right ones
- 31:00too. Like they can either have the
- 31:03hallucinage, the psychoactive part, or they can have healthy
- 31:08implements. Yeah, some.
- 31:11Some make really good coffee. I've heard that I've heard.
- 31:15Have you ever had any that those those drinks that are made from
- 31:20medicinal, you know, from like lion's mane and different types
- 31:23of good like. Edible mushrooms.
- 31:26Like, yeah, they people drink it instead of coffee and they talk
- 31:31it up like it, like it's the greatest thing.
- 31:32And I believe it. I've I've, I know a good brother
- 31:35of mine. He's.
- 31:36Into stuff like that. And he's, he's had, he's tried a
- 31:38couple of them and. He he, he thinks that.
- 31:40They they do pretty good, but. I've I've been wanting to start
- 31:43taking up foraging myself, but I've always heard even before
- 31:48that I used to be into like really big survival type things,
- 31:53big gear head, like not like pocket knives, like survival
- 31:59gear, camping, hiking and all that stuff.
- 32:02And and I always heard about chaga.
- 32:06Yep, I've heard about you. I have never tried it.
- 32:10That made a great coffee. It's like you can roast it and
- 32:12you can also make like, what was it?
- 32:15Acorn coffee? See.
- 32:18I'd like, I've, I've watched some videos about acorns and
- 32:22what you have to do to consume them.
- 32:25They're first of all, they, they're, it's not like they're
- 32:27toxic, but they're just, they taste awful.
- 32:30They're very bitter and you have to use tannin out of it, I think
- 32:34is what it's called. It's it's that it's not the
- 32:36chemical, but it's the part that makes it so bitter.
- 32:39You got to like boil it out of the nut and even then feel a
- 32:44little bitter but. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:49Basically, it's like, it's like you have to roast it, you know,
- 32:56it's kind, it's kind of, it's kind of like the, it's kind of
- 32:59like the roasting version of making holy water.
- 33:01You got to roast the hell out of it.
- 33:03Boil the hell out of it, right? Boil the hell out of it.
- 33:06Yeah, but, but yeah. But I guess we can get back on
- 33:10topic here. The other one of the other words
- 33:13I was talking about was like Celia.
- 33:17Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:18What so like give me give me. Do you have an example of when
- 33:22you were talking to a non heathen person about these
- 33:26things and the topic came up and did and like, do you have a, you
- 33:29have an example of when that happened and, and what, what did
- 33:33you have to do to get them back? Feeling connected with the
- 33:37conversation? Because I, you know, I, I, I
- 33:39find it really frustrating at times when people talk to me and
- 33:42use terms that I'm not familiar with.
- 33:44And I'm like, I want to be a part of this conversation.
- 33:46I want to be engaged. But you're, you're kind of
- 33:48talking over my head here. You have like a a.
- 33:54Yeah, yeah, This I, I can recall when the earliest forms of this,
- 34:03back when I was going, we have a, a little esoteric shop.
- 34:07It's a tea house like like like holistic teas, you know, loose
- 34:13leaf teas, they sell crystals they sell basically every like
- 34:18little witchy shop they sell. But it's not geared to look like
- 34:23a witchy shop. It looks like it's like a
- 34:25holistic, holistic Wellness shop.
- 34:27And it's here in town and what I used to go there for meditations
- 34:36and stuff. And the person I met, one of the
- 34:39friends I met there, she leads the leads the meditations and
- 34:45stuff. And then when we got started to
- 34:48get talking later on and stuff, I end up throwing the term weird
- 34:54around, you know, and and she gives me that look as like she
- 35:01was like she was like confused, but like interested at the same
- 35:05time. But she's always interested
- 35:06about new things and learning new things.
- 35:10So the way the way I didn't explain it perfectly good, but
- 35:16then, but the way I explain it now, it's the best analogy I use
- 35:20for weird. Instead of saying like it's a
- 35:23well, like we just picture as a well, I picture weird like say
- 35:28like you're on a road with no map, right.
- 35:36That is like the concept of saying like that's fate faded.
- 35:40You can't control where that road goes.
- 35:43However, once you come to the fork in the road where the
- 35:48intersection is, you can choose the path.
- 35:52There's an obstacle in the road. You can choose how to deal with
- 35:55that obstacle. Either way, you can just go
- 35:57right through it, go over it, go around it, take it with you, you
- 36:02know? Oh.
- 36:03OK, pick it up and bring it along.
- 36:06Yeah. So like the the the our free
- 36:10wills and choices that we make. So that's the way I kind of how
- 36:16I can I can explain it simply is that, yeah, things that are
- 36:21outside of our control are faded, but everything that's
- 36:25else is that we can choose or control that's inside our
- 36:28control. That's free will and and and all
- 36:33that and compress our our own weird and over log and
- 36:36everything. Else, yeah.
- 36:39So yeah, I'd look at I've I've I've over the over the years,
- 36:46you know, of learning and growing and and having my own
- 36:49experiences, but also like researching and and stuff what
- 36:52the concepts of weird by the Norse were or the dramatic
- 36:56people were like, what is this, you know, terminology?
- 36:59It does very often get associated.
- 37:04It's like, oh, it's, it's basically like, you know, the,
- 37:06the Norse version of, of, of fate, like the Greece had they
- 37:10had, they had fate, you know where it was, you know, this and
- 37:13that is, is always fated to happen.
- 37:16And it's similar to in some degrees, but it's very much more
- 37:21we're very much it's more interactive.
- 37:23You know, we're not, we're not the subjects of the fates.
- 37:26You know, the thing that is different is like from the from
- 37:30the from the lore at least, is that you know what you know
- 37:35there is there. There are certain points of of
- 37:37weird where things are fixed. So you have when you were born
- 37:41and when you will die. Those are are fated to every
- 37:45man, woman, child, everybody. Like though that is every man is
- 37:48fated to die. You can't escape it.
- 37:50The day of one's doom is set and none may escape.
- 37:53But I think that was in maybe the the Volsun's saga.
- 37:56Yeah. But see, I also, I still believe
- 37:59that there is short term fate as well.
- 38:03Again, like like we chose to be here today or together, right.
- 38:10But if we was to stumble each other by accident in the market
- 38:13somewhere, that's that's fate. That's we were.
- 38:18We just happened to haphazardly just be in the same place at the
- 38:21same time. Yeah, the way the way that
- 38:24things were woven was. And yeah, like you were saying,
- 38:27like you can we, we could, you know, if that were to happen, we
- 38:31could choose to engage with one another and say hi, or we could
- 38:34ignore one another. Or we might not even see each
- 38:37other. We might be in the same place at
- 38:39the same time and have no idea of one another being there.
- 38:42Yeah, like the saying, fancy running into you.
- 38:46Yeah. It's like, I didn't know you
- 38:48were going to be like, like when you run into a friend at the
- 38:51store that you haven't seen in forever.
- 38:54Yeah. Also another necessary cause of
- 38:58the fate to me is also say, like a dice roll, like you have
- 39:04control over the spin. You can control the spin how
- 39:08however you like, right. But once it's out of your hands,
- 39:14everything. Else.
- 39:16Yeah, it's based on luck, it's based on fate, it's based on
- 39:19every. It's just all those factors
- 39:21played. But you can, you can put enough
- 39:23spin on it as you want to, but that ain't going to affect it
- 39:26because it may hit some a rock here and bounce off here and who
- 39:30knows, it may go down a storm drain.
- 39:33Yeah, all of the, the environmental elements that that
- 39:37are at play can affect how the dice land and and yeah, you as
- 39:43the one throwing the dice. And this is an interesting thing
- 39:45too, because with weird, the concept of weird, we, we are
- 39:50involved and we are in control of what is happening to to a
- 39:55certain extent. So for like we're saying, you
- 39:57know if if if along this thread. If we want to look at it as a
- 40:02road, you know, and all of a sudden on this road like you
- 40:04were talking about, there's, there's two intersections.
- 40:07You could go this way, you can go that way.
- 40:08If we decide, we either keep going straight or we go here or
- 40:13we go there. It it's a decision.
- 40:15It's a conscious involvement of us to insert ourselves into the
- 40:20web. Yeah, we're, we're we're already
- 40:22there. We have to be involved.
- 40:24We we're engaged with it. So we're shapers of weird to a
- 40:26degree, I feel. And nothing and none of the
- 40:29roads. Double back until you get to
- 40:31your destination, the final destination.
- 40:37Yeah, you, you never come back around to the same place where
- 40:39you were. You you're always in a different
- 40:41place. Yeah, until you're dead.
- 40:44Until you're dead in the ground. Then you can come back around.
- 40:50Now, when you explained this, this like when you explained
- 40:53weird, obviously we're going a bit more into the weeds with it.
- 40:55But when you explained this to that person, did it, did it
- 40:58click with them in a way that was familiar to them?
- 41:01Like did they have a concept of something that resembled the
- 41:04close enough, the concept of weird that they were like, oh, I
- 41:07get it now or oh, I understand it now.
- 41:09Did it? Do you remember what it was or?
- 41:11Well, they did understand it as because I I had to put several
- 41:16things together on the more universal state.
- 41:20I like, I had to put weird. I had to put not weird, but I
- 41:23had to put fate together with luck, with free will all
- 41:29together. And that's how I ascribed it is
- 41:32was to say something haphazardly happens.
- 41:36That's fate. That's luck, but with, but also
- 41:41like. Again, we believe that luck can
- 41:43be passed down as well. Sure it is.
- 41:46Yeah. Through the Haminga, yeah.
- 41:48Yeah, and. This is another term.
- 41:51How you know, how do you find an equivalent to that without
- 41:55really getting into some descriptive things you know, I
- 41:57mean? I have never used that word
- 41:59publicly though. Really.
- 42:02Oh, I have never had that. I have never had that, you know,
- 42:05to non heathens, you know, or Hummer.
- 42:09I think I've described Hummer before, I think, and like our
- 42:14own shell and stuff, you know. But yeah, like I said, like the
- 42:22Filia for once or the fetch, I've always used that term.
- 42:27Yeah, those are two, those are two things that kind of mean
- 42:30something the same. You know, Fetch gets used
- 42:32interchangeably in a lot of. I've seen it.
- 42:36I've seen it used interchangeably as, oh, you
- 42:38know, you could call the Filia, you know, the fetch.
- 42:40Yeah. I think Eric Shervin does a real
- 42:43good job at explaining some of these things too.
- 42:45Of course, he's done the videos and he's gone really into depth,
- 42:49you know, talking about the, the concepts of the complexities of
- 42:52the soul from the North's view or Germanic person view, like
- 42:56with the, the, the complexities of the soul, because there
- 43:00aren't there, you know, like it's that's pretty unique to
- 43:04that culture where, you know, the, the, the soul is
- 43:07multifaceted. There is not, you know, when we
- 43:10die, you know, our bodies die, but other parts of us live on.
- 43:15You know, there's, there's a, there's a aspect of us as a
- 43:18soul, as a, as a being that does expire, that does not continue
- 43:22to live anymore. But then there are other parts
- 43:24of the soul that do continue on in some form or fashion.
- 43:29Yeah, and some just again part of it can can follow and and
- 43:36watch over our our descendants. Yeah, the Filia, well, the, the
- 43:42Filia I think from like from from a lore perspective, dies,
- 43:46dies with its owner like once, once, once the once the, the,
- 43:50the, the, the lich, the body, once that part of the body
- 43:54person dies, the Filia goes with it.
- 43:57But the Haminga is what is passed down through the family
- 44:02line and comes in and exists. And then at 1:00 and then at
- 44:04some point that person you know their Filia does can make make
- 44:09you know make itself manifest to them or.
- 44:12Or I do believe that the ancestors do also follow us
- 44:16around as well to give us advice.
- 44:19Well, sure. Yeah.
- 44:21That's that's a big part of the conceptual views of the world.
- 44:24You know our ancestors are with us.
- 44:27Oh yeah, and, and basically it's all in in a layman's terms.
- 44:32A lot of people will have described it because I've, I
- 44:35have a lot of friends who are, are like psychic mediums and
- 44:40that kind of like language and, and, and the way I've learned
- 44:44it, everybody has some kind of mediumship or psychic abilities.
- 44:51It's just like, it's kind of like being a virtuoso at art or
- 44:57music. Some people are virtuosos at
- 45:00that and can pick up on it really fast.
- 45:03Some people have to work at it, but it's basically just reading
- 45:08energy and picking up on little nuances.
- 45:11Like if something just say like you see some like a face when
- 45:16your eyes are closed. That's what they what they call
- 45:19spirit contacting you, you know, you know, because they want me.
- 45:27A lot of psychics I've seen call it spirit, we call it other
- 45:33things, you know, other people would say it's all a form of
- 45:39energy in the. University.
- 45:42Bringing all that in and so but yeah, I have to again, that's
- 45:50the reason why I describe the I have to describe these things
- 45:53because I have again, friends who are on the psychic scale,
- 45:57the median scales, they can talk to more better than I am at you
- 46:02know, I've met, I've been told this and I can confirm that I am
- 46:06partially clairvoyant because I but I can only see things with
- 46:10my eyes are shut pick up on things.
- 46:15But that's how far trained I am into it.
- 46:20It's some people can pick up on things like they see an image
- 46:25like, so it's like like if you how you see images in the in the
- 46:27clouds kind of thing. Yeah, right.
- 46:31Or, or the smoke or fire or anything.
- 46:33Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I I see.
- 46:36I see it in the fire all the time.
- 46:39Yeah, like. When I when I when I'm whenever
- 46:42I do ritual. This is going a little bit more
- 46:45personal though. It's like whenever I'm having a
- 46:48successful ritual. I know this because majority of
- 46:51the candles I have around me, if I if I have candles lit, they're
- 46:55dancing like crazy and it's usually, it's usually the one
- 47:03that's on my ancestral altar space and there's the one that's
- 47:10that's doing it the most. Yeah, kind of sharing in that
- 47:14energy with you it seems, huh? Yeah, and that's how I know it's
- 47:19when it's like, when it's like flickering like crazy, like like
- 47:23jumping, like big leaks and just, and, and it will happen in
- 47:27in moments of the ritual that I'm, I'm saying like these are
- 47:30private, private rituals inside my home.
- 47:34But when I'm saying this, it's like it's very powerful.
- 47:38And that's how I learned how to. And I've always that's how I
- 47:41first started learning how how what's a good response is
- 47:47through candles, through the flames.
- 47:51You know, we were talking about, you know, the, the, the use of
- 47:54words that are familiar with heathens that maybe not be
- 47:58familiar. You know, these are terms that
- 48:00might get used like you say, you know, clairvoyancy and you know,
- 48:04some of the other things that you're talking about.
- 48:06Would you, if you had to put a or if you could think of a word
- 48:11that heathens are familiar with that falls under that category,
- 48:17what word would you think that would come to mind?
- 48:19Like what? Where would you put stuff like
- 48:21that? For mediumship it would be
- 48:23sather for mediums themselves or psychics vulva or saith Kona or
- 48:33say mother which is the male version equivalent.
- 48:41Yeah, that was that's what I was thinking too.
- 48:43Yeah, and other cultures. It could be shaman, but they're
- 48:47also medicine men. Yeah.
- 48:52They're, I wouldn't say they're healers because I don't believe
- 48:57in one person to be able to heal everybody else.
- 49:03I I see them as healing aids because we are the true we
- 49:09ourselves are our own true healers.
- 49:14Like if a you can go to a doctor all day long, they can prescribe
- 49:17you a treatment, but if you don't follow that regimen, you
- 49:19ain't going to get well. Yeah, no, you're right.
- 49:22I've, I've talked to somebody else about this type of thing
- 49:26too, where, you know, and, and they basically said almost the
- 49:31exact same thing where, you know, you can go to a physician,
- 49:33you can go to a doctor, you can get the prescription, you can
- 49:36get the regimen. Yeah.
- 49:37But if you're not following it, what good is it doing?
- 49:40Yeah, so. They're not.
- 49:41They're not healers because they're not like they're putting
- 49:43their hands on you and oh, you're well.
- 49:46Yeah, like abracadabra. You're better, you know, right?
- 49:48Yeah, yeah, Do a chant. No, these chants are doing
- 49:53these. They they don't just do chants.
- 49:55They do, they give you herbs to get do they give you a
- 49:59prescription of what to do a regiment every day to like they
- 50:05say, go outside. If you go outside more and you
- 50:09don't go outside more, you ain't going to get well.
- 50:14Yeah, you got to follow the, you got to follow the doctor's
- 50:16orders, right? You got to, you got to take the
- 50:18medicine. You've got to do the work to see
- 50:21the results. It's just like the story of how
- 50:25Kai Faust from Halong got into shamanism.
- 50:29He was, he had like lesions all over his body or something like
- 50:34skin lesions and he could not get anybody.
- 50:36No dermatologist could ever help him out.
- 50:39So he he gave, he was desperate and I guess and his girlfriend
- 50:44at the time was into shamanism and he just gave it a try and he
- 50:49was told for I couldn't remember how many days was go every how
- 50:54many mornings to go and brush your brush your skin against the
- 50:58morning dew. And he did that and it didn't
- 51:01take the full that it didn't take the full time either.
- 51:05It immediately cleared up. Wow.
- 51:08Never read, I never heard that story before.
- 51:10That's a. Yeah, look it up, Look it up.
- 51:13He even shares that a lot about what happened.
- 51:17Yeah. Because he was skeptical at
- 51:19first and then when he saw it, that's what got him to follow
- 51:23that path because he was, he's actually is a legitimate shaman
- 51:29because he trained underneath, underneath the shaman, followed
- 51:33them, apprentice underneath them, and then became one
- 51:36himself. And before he started tattooing
- 51:38and then he tattooed and he was doing tattoos and then the story
- 51:42unfolds. And then abracadabra he's and
- 51:46he's a singer. Yeah.
- 51:49Well, she's, he doesn't call himself a singer either.
- 51:51He's like, I just write these words and stuff and then do my
- 51:55chants and stuff. Yeah.
- 51:58So. Well, that goes back to I think
- 52:00just the, the spirit of high lung is, is they, they, you
- 52:04know, their performances, even though they are being booked on
- 52:07tours and they're going to places around the world, The,
- 52:10the experience, the live experience is, is very ritual
- 52:14like it's and they and they call them rituals.
- 52:17And having attended these live rituals, you know, this one time
- 52:22myself, and then anybody else who has can, can, can say for
- 52:25sure, like this is exactly what it is.
- 52:28It, it's, it's not just a concert.
- 52:30It's not a performance per SE. It is.
- 52:32There's the. Theatre, there's theatre like
- 52:34the ritual theatre, The, the garb, the, the, the atmosphere,
- 52:37the, the, the, the feelings and all that.
- 52:40Yeah. So, you know, just for, for Kai
- 52:42to be in that genuine head space that night set that heart space
- 52:46of I'm not a singer. I'm I'm just performing these.
- 52:50This chance, every night he goes to a trance every time he's
- 52:55every, every ritual he he does as Haylong, he's in that
- 53:01headspace, He's in a ritual. Because even the first one, that
- 53:04that one at Castle Fest, the first life, he was in that
- 53:10moment, he was in that ritual space in his head.
- 53:14He didn't know. He came out of it not knowing
- 53:16what just happened, if it was successful or not.
- 53:20Wow. Yeah, so I'm, I'm talking about
- 53:23he's like the real deal. Yeah.
- 53:26And that's, that's kind of what kind of jolted me into my
- 53:29experience too, is that and other things just that was like
- 53:35the finalization, I think for me to follow the path I'm on right
- 53:40now. And you are definitely a
- 53:44heathen. Obviously you, you have a, a, an
- 53:46inclination towards heathenry, but you do other things as part
- 53:50of your heathen ring, which I think is why you are, are
- 53:53finding it. I don't know if you say
- 53:56challenge or or difficult at times, but you you encounter
- 53:59people who aren't just heathen in in your in your things and
- 54:04then are finding yourself having to explain or educate on these
- 54:08terms because it's you know, you might be doing.
- 54:12Don't you do Reiki, yes, stuff too.
- 54:16I'm actually I'm. Actually going after.
- 54:19I'm going after my masters. I'm actually going after my
- 54:21masters this weekend. Oh well, good job, Congrats and
- 54:24I hope that it. It's not my master teacher, but
- 54:27it's my first masters thing. It's like Reiki 3, but I didn't,
- 54:33I, I didn't meet the requirements for like clientele,
- 54:37but I felt like I was ready enough.
- 54:39And that's what she, that's what my teacher has told me is like,
- 54:43you're ready when you feel like you're ready.
- 54:46And I want, and I, I didn't want it from the title either.
- 54:49I want it because I want to be able to do more things with it,
- 54:54expand my knowledge on it and stuff.
- 54:57So I mean, I'm sure that it it you, you would have encounters
- 55:00with people that maybe aren't heating and you start talking
- 55:04about something, whether it's at a Reiki session or or anywhere
- 55:06else for that matter. But you know, you have and that,
- 55:09you know, that I think that's a lot of of us nowadays is, you
- 55:11know, we, we live in a very non secular world.
- 55:15It's, you know, just because you know, other folks in an area
- 55:20that are maybe non traditional in their beliefs, they're
- 55:22they're very eclectic or they have a specific approach to
- 55:26their spirituality or their religion.
- 55:28New Age. Yeah, yeah, there's a lot of
- 55:31that, clearly. I mean, that's everywhere you
- 55:33go, but you know, like. He but here that they have a lot
- 55:38of people who are Christians here, like they go to the Church
- 55:41of Christ. The person that that I, I know
- 55:46that does the meditation, the meditations.
- 55:50She also is a medium as well. Like I said, she's a medium.
- 55:54She does tarot cards and Oracle cards, but she also is a
- 56:00Christian. But part of her practice is also
- 56:03Native American in a way, which I don't want to go into the
- 56:08whole detail on, on the appropriation of that.
- 56:11But that's her choice, you know? Well, you, I mean, you don't
- 56:15talk about a mixed bag. First of all, to to be a medium
- 56:19and to do, you know, divination with tarot and then in the same
- 56:23breath claim to be Christian. That seems to go against
- 56:28everything. Like, you know, you talk about,
- 56:30you know, Western water, you know.
- 56:33And your cleansing rituals are Native American.
- 56:37Yeah, I mean, you know, again, not knowing the person, not
- 56:39knowing the circumstance, I'm not going to pass judgment or
- 56:42say anything to or against. I just, you know, I had AI, had
- 56:46AI, had a situation that I wouldn't even call it a
- 56:49situation. I was, I was, I was scrolling
- 56:56through YouTube or no, I got a notification because I follow, I
- 57:02follow this one group of, of, of, of heathens up in the
- 57:06Pacific Northwest. And yeah, they, they, and this
- 57:13will likely get out because I mean, they, they subscribe to my
- 57:17stuff, but they also listen, I'm sure.
- 57:20So the Northwoods Kindred, I'm not going to beat around the
- 57:22Bush because my comments were public and, and it was all done
- 57:24in in good faith. But Northwoods Kindred, this is
- 57:28probably weeks ago, months ago at this point now close to month
- 57:33or two ago anyway, they had put up a video with members of their
- 57:38Kindred consuming cacao, which is great and it is a delicious
- 57:46beverage. It is very, it is very like good
- 57:49cacao when when consumed in the spirit of ceremony is super
- 57:56medicinal. It's it's good for you it and it
- 57:59helps. Ground you.
- 58:00I've had it three times before. So you know what I'm, you know
- 58:04what I'm talking about. Yeah.
- 58:06The thing that I ended up getting into, I wouldn't want to
- 58:09say like an argument with online with them about.
- 58:11But I, we went back and forth in their comments section of this
- 58:14video. I said because when they
- 58:17initially posted the video, their description of the video
- 58:21was something along the lines of, you know, come partake of,
- 58:24of this Oscar true ceremony with, with cacao or something
- 58:29along those lines. And they, they made no
- 58:34disclaimers anywhere in that initial video clarifying that
- 58:40cacao is not also true. It is not heathen.
- 58:45It's not. It's not more.
- 58:46Pagan. It's, it's, it's not even, you
- 58:48know, it's an Amazonian, above Amazonian tradition.
- 58:53And that's fine, actually. It's actually also Aztec.
- 58:56And eat good tradition too. Yeah, so in it my, my whole
- 59:00point was when I was talking about it like.
- 59:01Go. It was that way.
- 59:03It's fine if you want to consume it, it's fine if you want to
- 59:05drink it, and it's fine if you want to incorporate it into your
- 59:07practice. But please do the right thing by
- 59:11educating because anybody who doesn't know the difference or,
- 59:14or, or anything might come across your video and see this
- 59:18and think that cacao ceremonies are also true or heathen or
- 59:24something. And it's not.
- 59:25And you can we, we, we owe it to the public.
- 59:27We owe it to people as content creators, as leaders, as, as
- 59:31people with a voice, as, as people with platforms.
- 59:33We owe it to them to be authentic and true and, and
- 59:37accurate with what we're saying. And did you even believe the
- 59:39back and forth that it went? And finally, I was like, look,
- 59:41man, I said what I said, if you don't change it, that says a lot
- 59:46about things. And they did, they, they changed
- 59:49the, the description of their video to be clear that it's not
- 59:52also true. And I, you know, I applaud them
- 59:54for that. So for the folks at Northwest
- 59:56Kendra that might hear this or listen to this, you know, good
- 1:00:00on you for, for hearing where I was coming from, because it's
- 1:00:03hard to convey, it's hard to convey a motion over a comment
- 1:00:08section or a comment thread in on a video.
- 1:00:11But we were going back. About this too, but as well.
- 1:00:16You do OK, Yeah. So I mean.
- 1:00:18I, I think you did this on one podcast before and.
- 1:00:22Probably. Came up.
- 1:00:24Yeah, I, I remember I remember you talking about a bit of that
- 1:00:28yeah. And I do agree it's like it is
- 1:00:32not heathen or also true or North Pagan, right.
- 1:00:37But I don't, I mean, I don't conduct it myself.
- 1:00:42I have a friend that's also again, eclectic who runs a local
- 1:00:45store. She is maybe I don't know, about
- 1:00:513/4 or maybe 1/3 to 3/4 follower of the Nordic Path, the North
- 1:01:00Heathen path. But she has other things going
- 1:01:03for her as well. So she's like is a little bit of
- 1:01:06everything. Yeah, and I, you know, yeah,
- 1:01:10that and, and, and look, I, I don't have any problem with it.
- 1:01:13I just think that when so like, I guess the whole point of me
- 1:01:16bringing it up was the the person you were referring to who
- 1:01:20incorporates Native American indigenous beliefs.
- 1:01:23If if it, if it's done in the spirit of appreciation and
- 1:01:29they're not trying to gain it for the clout or do something
- 1:01:32to, to, you know, you know, they're not buying their sage
- 1:01:34from Hot Topic or some stupid thing, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:38Like, you know, if they're appreciating it and if it's done
- 1:01:41rightly, and if it's also if it's been given to them from the
- 1:01:45nations that that it's native to.
- 1:01:48Well, if it's tradition or practices that are passed down
- 1:01:52and shared with that person, then to do it and in a way that
- 1:01:55is appreciative of the culture and to do it through that
- 1:01:58genuine nature, I feel is is the right way of going about it.
- 1:02:01If you're out here, you know, burning sage and waving fans and
- 1:02:05doing it for the clout and you have no business doing, you
- 1:02:09don't know what it's for, especially because some of
- 1:02:11these, you know, items, some of these materials are sacred to
- 1:02:13certain nations and to certain. Tribes, I believe that she's a
- 1:02:18good heart. I do believe that she's a good
- 1:02:20heart because she does it when she's doing the Native American
- 1:02:24stuff. She does it for the cleansing
- 1:02:26and stuff. So she's genuinely wanting to
- 1:02:28cleanse. People so the.
- 1:02:30Prayer. So the prayer she says over it
- 1:02:32is mostly Native American, I believe.
- 1:02:36But her core faith, her core faith is Christianity, but she
- 1:02:39believes these other things too. So it's like an eclectic thing.
- 1:02:43It's like. Makes it work then I guess then
- 1:02:45then rock. On with it's kind of like a
- 1:02:47Christian. It's like a watered down the
- 1:02:49Pagan Christian thing, you know, Neo Christian.
- 1:02:53I think it's what I'd like to call it.
- 1:02:55Yeah, I mean, I don't know, like, I, I don't know of any
- 1:02:58Christian churches that that that openly welcome people who
- 1:03:01are like, I'm a Pagan and I do Pagan things, but I also, you
- 1:03:04know, believe that Jesus is my Lord and Savior.
- 1:03:06Like, honey, you can't do both. You can't believe both.
- 1:03:09Maybe they can and I don't know, but I just.
- 1:03:11You know, well, I think Lutheria does.
- 1:03:15Who? Was it Lutherian?
- 1:03:17I think does that. Lutheran.
- 1:03:20Lutheran, Yeah. Lutheran Christian maybe.
- 1:03:22I don't know. I'm not, I'm not a it's.
- 1:03:24One of those sects, it's one of those sects of Christianity.
- 1:03:27It's that there's a few snacks out there that that do this.
- 1:03:31You know, it's kind of like the people that also do the the
- 1:03:34Rattle state retreat kind of things.
- 1:03:36They do Weird that. You're talking about like the
- 1:03:39kind of hostels. Yeah, snake, the snake handlers.
- 1:03:42They, they, they pick up serpents.
- 1:03:44Well, that's, that's because that's in the Bible that Jesus
- 1:03:47told his disciples, you know, and, and you know, in my name,
- 1:03:50you shall take up serpents. And, and so, yeah, I guess they,
- 1:03:54they they hear that and they go, let me go grab a hold of a
- 1:03:57copperhead and dance with it. Yeah, If it bites me, I might
- 1:04:00die, but I'm not because I'm going to be protected.
- 1:04:02I don't know. I mean.
- 1:04:04It's part of the weird sex or something.
- 1:04:05There's some that do. Believe.
- 1:04:07Or do allow for mediumship, allow for the the whole eclectic
- 1:04:12woo stuff, you know? Yeah, Yeah, you're right.
- 1:04:16Because I mean, there's, there's mysticism in in almost every
- 1:04:20religion. You know, you have Jewish
- 1:04:21mysticism, you have Islamic mysticism, you have, you have
- 1:04:24aspects of Christianity that if you want to put a name to it,
- 1:04:28right? Because even in the New
- 1:04:29Testament book, you know, of where, where Christians are very
- 1:04:32focused on, you know, some of them put a hard line between Old
- 1:04:36Testament and New Testament stuff, even even the very strict
- 1:04:40New Testament stuff, you know, you look at their, their, their,
- 1:04:43their savior. Jesus was a healer.
- 1:04:45He put his hands on people and fight magic.
- 1:04:48They were healed. He could, you know, make the
- 1:04:50blind see, raise the dead, turn water into wine, walk on water.
- 1:04:54Come on, man. Like, you know, you know, you
- 1:04:55know, there's mysticism in every, I think religion, if you
- 1:04:59want to, and, and what you credit those or those abilities
- 1:05:04to, whether it be divinity or God or spirit or whatever name
- 1:05:08you want want to put to it. It's it's something that that is
- 1:05:12of a Mystic nature. It's magic.
- 1:05:14It's like, you know, maybe can't be explained or it can be
- 1:05:16explained, but it was, it was at such a point in time when things
- 1:05:20like science and technology or whatever weren't vastly
- 1:05:24understood. So, you know, there's this stuff
- 1:05:26here right now that we're doing talking to each other in real
- 1:05:29time through a box. Like that's, that would be
- 1:05:31magic, you know, 100 and 5200 years ago, even if you think
- 1:05:35about that. You know if.
- 1:05:36You think about how magic is now though.
- 1:05:38I mean, magic is just words. You speak things.
- 1:05:44Into words. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:46That is magical. When you when you speak, you
- 1:05:49know, what does it mean to cast a spell?
- 1:05:52What do we do when we put letters together to create words
- 1:05:54we are spelling? Spelling, yeah.
- 1:05:57But even even back then, though, it was considered mysticism.
- 1:06:01Like even if a woman spoke her mind.
- 1:06:04Ah, yeah, a witch. Witch.
- 1:06:07A woman, a woman. What's 2?
- 1:06:09You ask? You ask her what's 2 + 2?
- 1:06:12She says 4. You're like, she knows things.
- 1:06:14She must be a witch. Let's go if she, if she, if we
- 1:06:18dunk her, if she sinks, she's she's she's not a witch if she.
- 1:06:23Floats. She's a.
- 1:06:24She float. No, if she floats or if she
- 1:06:27float, float. She's not.
- 1:06:29She's she's a witch. So we kill her.
- 1:06:31If she sinks and dies, she's not a witch.
- 1:06:34Oh, well, at least her soul went to God, right?
- 1:06:38Yeah, It's crazy. The, the, the, the extreme sides
- 1:06:40of things that, that have existed over, over, over
- 1:06:44history, over over time in the name of religion or to try to
- 1:06:49push a, a, a religion or convert people or whatever.
- 1:06:53You know, I mean, it's, it's wild stuff that's happened that
- 1:06:56we can look back on and hopefully learn from.
- 1:07:01You know, one of the things that has has recently come to, to my
- 1:07:06mind and, and into my heart, a lesson that I have had to been
- 1:07:11been been taught very recently is being pushy and, and pushing
- 1:07:17ideas and pushing thoughts on to people.
- 1:07:23It's it, it never goes well, you know, even with the greatest and
- 1:07:29best of intentions. And you might have, you know,
- 1:07:32the best intentions in your heart to want to be like, but we
- 1:07:34should do it this way, right? Because of XY and Z, we should
- 1:07:37do it XYZ, we should do blah, blah, blah.
- 1:07:41What I've come to, to, to learn recently is we don't live in a
- 1:07:49time like that. Really.
- 1:07:52It's at least not, not, not not what I've found.
- 1:07:56I mean, maybe I'm not speaking. I can't.
- 1:07:57I can't. And I don't want to say that I'm
- 1:07:59speaking on behalf of, of all, you know, who, who might find
- 1:08:04themselves in a, in a, in a circumstance or in a position
- 1:08:07where, you know, we have to do it this way.
- 1:08:09And there is no, you know, if ands or buts about it very, you
- 1:08:13know, directed to specifics of of how to execute this, how to
- 1:08:18execute that, how to live, how to conduct ourselves, how to do
- 1:08:22this. Yeah.
- 1:08:25And I'm still learning through that.
- 1:08:27I'm still I'm still, I'm still receiving the lessons about
- 1:08:31that. But but some of what I've had to
- 1:08:32be, you know, given to learn recently is you can't you can't
- 1:08:42control people. You can't control things to the
- 1:08:46point that you dictate to them how things ought to be.
- 1:08:52We're all in a shared experience, and how can we
- 1:08:57coexist and how how can how can our shared experiences come
- 1:09:00together in a way that benefits us together?
- 1:09:05What can we do to help one another?
- 1:09:06Maybe it doesn't have to be the same thing everywhere.
- 1:09:09But hey, if you need me to help you with something, what can I
- 1:09:12do to help you? And if you need, you know, if I
- 1:09:14need your help, what can you do to help me?
- 1:09:16And there's goes back to the frit thing, right?
- 1:09:18The, the, the reciprocity, the, the, the exchange, the
- 1:09:21obligation, the gifting back and forth.
- 1:09:23That gifting cycle. It's which is also very heathen.
- 1:09:27I mean, the gifting cycle is, is one of the key, like I think
- 1:09:29center pillars, if you will, of, of, of evenry is, is the gifting
- 1:09:34cycle reciprocity. You know, a gift always demands
- 1:09:38a gift in return and we engage in that cycle to keep things
- 1:09:43going the way that that we want to see them go and, and for the
- 1:09:46best there's. A There's a thought here.
- 1:09:48This is kind of off the cuff here.
- 1:09:51What if sometimes gifts don't happen on purpose?
- 1:09:56What if sometimes, Yeah, what happens if gifts just naturally
- 1:10:00happen? Like like in what way?
- 1:10:04Like say like you don't like somebody doesn't like, it's kind
- 1:10:11of hard to explain right now. I'm trying to think of of a
- 1:10:13situation here, say like you and and me met somewhere, right?
- 1:10:20And then all of a sudden I pick, I find something that I, I think
- 1:10:25that you may enjoy, You know, like in that moment, we find
- 1:10:30those like, we find like this huge, like stone in the shape of
- 1:10:34something, you know, that we both find interesting, you know,
- 1:10:38and I was like, you take it. Or maybe maybe it's just not
- 1:10:43just that, but spiritual gifts, gift of some knowledge, gifts
- 1:10:50of, you know, sometimes it maybe it doesn't.
- 1:10:54I don't intend to give the gift, you know.
- 1:10:58But it happens because that's what fate, if you will, fate had
- 1:11:02had set right like it was at the point of the of the of the
- 1:11:04timeline where here's a choice. Now we we, we can go one way or
- 1:11:09the other with this. And if I didn't plan on
- 1:11:13reciprocating in the gift at that moment, it happens by
- 1:11:18accident, so to speak. Like like haphazardly, almost
- 1:11:24like say, like, oh, you gave me, you gave me this gift.
- 1:11:28You found a stick or something in the woods or bone or
- 1:11:30something. You gave it to me as a like a
- 1:11:33couple years that, a couple years that or maybe not that
- 1:11:35long ago, a couple, some period of time down the road.
- 1:11:39We're just wandering and stuff and we see something really cool
- 1:11:42together, or there's a moment that happens, you know?
- 1:11:48Well, I got it. I got, I got something that that
- 1:11:50when you, when you mention that came to mind of an experience
- 1:11:54that I had that that kind of fits that same sort of way.
- 1:11:58You know who Greg Allison is at the Yeah, there's a shoe shop
- 1:12:01down there next near where you live in Hazel.
- 1:12:04Hazel Green. Hazel Green, yeah.
- 1:12:06Yeah, and he and me and him did a podcast last year when I got
- 1:12:11this tattoo on my leg and. He did this tattoo right here
- 1:12:14for me. Oh, did he?
- 1:12:17Yeah, let. Me zoom in a little bit on him.
- 1:12:19Show me that again. Hold on.
- 1:12:21Oh, nice. Yeah, he does.
- 1:12:22So he does. He does phenomenal work.
- 1:12:25Yeah, well, he he did. My original goal was to just
- 1:12:29have the meal there with the horn Frescalian.
- 1:12:33Yeah, intertwined with it. I found an image of it one time.
- 1:12:36It had a moon in the background, but I didn't want the moon in
- 1:12:38there because I didn't want to copy somebody else's work.
- 1:12:41I want him to do his own version.
- 1:12:42So yeah, he actually added actual horn lines to make it
- 1:12:47look like real horn. Yeah.
- 1:12:49And then I had I made this. This is my dumb mistake is put
- 1:12:53the elder full Thark right there.
- 1:12:57I'm I'm thinking about having well, I have it.
- 1:13:00It's a little small for me for this, this arm right here.
- 1:13:03So I did it originally the just to hide it from my grandmother
- 1:13:07because not because she doesn't approve of tattoos.
- 1:13:11It's financial thing. If, if, if she sees it, if she
- 1:13:15saw it, well, she has seen it now, but which I was afraid that
- 1:13:21she was going to say, I'm going to hear the how much did it
- 1:13:23cost? Oh yeah.
- 1:13:26And how much did that cost? That's all she cares about is
- 1:13:29finances. I'm like, well, it made me
- 1:13:31happy, you know? But so I'm going to make, I'm
- 1:13:35going to have to make it bigger or make add more to it.
- 1:13:39Yeah, add some more. To it I may put.
- 1:13:41What I may do is I may put the younger fool thought just
- 1:13:44scattered around it. Yeah.
- 1:13:47So think about it, yeah. But he, you know, when, when,
- 1:13:51when you talked about the, the sort of randomness of a gift and
- 1:13:57how it can sometimes happen without it being planned for, it
- 1:13:59made me think of when I went down to Hazel Green to get this
- 1:14:03tattoo done. That was planned.
- 1:14:05We, we, we talked about that. It was, it was, Hey, you're
- 1:14:08going to, you know, you're going to do this tattoo and then we're
- 1:14:10going to do the podcast afterwards, right?
- 1:14:12What wasn't planned was my wife saw one of the T-shirts that
- 1:14:19they sell at at his shop that he sells.
- 1:14:22And she's like, oh, you know, I would love AT shirt.
- 1:14:25And I go great, you know, and he had her size and it comes time
- 1:14:30to exchange the shirt and funds and I didn't have cash on me.
- 1:14:37And he goes, it's fine. Just take it, consider it a
- 1:14:41gift. And I go, wow, first of all,
- 1:14:45thank you. But second of all, I can't in
- 1:14:48good conscience, I can't walk away from you right now without
- 1:14:53at least telling you something that I would like to do for you
- 1:14:57in exchange for this, because that was a gift that was an
- 1:15:00unplanned for. I had no cash on me to pay for
- 1:15:04this. And I was not intending to walk
- 1:15:05out of his, his shop with merchandise that I didn't pay
- 1:15:10for. So what did I do?
- 1:15:11I said, hey, what can I do? Would you like a rune set?
- 1:15:15Would you like a hand crafted rune set?
- 1:15:17Would that be an equal value? He said, I would love that, that
- 1:15:21would be great. And So what did I do right get
- 1:15:24back home within a week or so I had his rune set made and mailed
- 1:15:27off to him. So my I guess he's like when
- 1:15:30those random things happen, right?
- 1:15:32Because you can, you can. You can have a case of of.
- 1:15:35Random tattoo as well. What's that?
- 1:15:39Is he also called for tattoo as well?
- 1:15:41Yeah, I mean, it was it was come down, get this tattoo and I'll
- 1:15:45you know, we'll do the podcast and we'll call it even.
- 1:15:48Yeah. And I'm like, you know, so at
- 1:15:50least I knew that for the tattoo, there was, you know,
- 1:15:52advertisement for his business, which by the way, check the
- 1:15:55description down below, guys and gals and and check the
- 1:15:58instruments. If you're ever in North Alabama
- 1:16:00near Huntsville and you want and you want to heathen to do your
- 1:16:02tattoo work, it's free Spirit tattoos.
- 1:16:05It's in Hazel Green AL check them out link forum will be in
- 1:16:09the show notes in the down in the description.
- 1:16:12So but also again wasn't a deal. Yeah, I was.
- 1:16:17Going to tell you about the the shop though.
- 1:16:19It's got if they're if they're trying to find the shop, it
- 1:16:21looks like a A. It's right there in a storage
- 1:16:25unit area. Yeah, yeah, we almost.
- 1:16:28Drove my yeah, it's like, like it's right there in front of
- 1:16:34it's part of the the. Yeah, but we we, it's not off
- 1:16:39the beaten path because you're on a main highway, but if you're
- 1:16:42not paying attention, you could drive right by it and not even
- 1:16:44know. It.
- 1:16:44Yeah, yeah. But yeah, so I guess, you know,
- 1:16:48the whole point is, was, was I, I resonate with what you were
- 1:16:51saying with how the randomness of a gift can happen.
- 1:16:54But at the same time, if if you're conscious of the
- 1:16:57importance of reciprocity, the importance of the gifting cycle,
- 1:17:00you find a way. You, you, you commit to yourself
- 1:17:03or you commit to the other person.
- 1:17:05I appreciate this gift. Now let me gift back to you in
- 1:17:08return to, to, to make this even, you know, this transaction
- 1:17:11even or or so. And I think that's, that's
- 1:17:13important too, to realize that, you know, it doesn't have to be
- 1:17:17a plan thing. We're not, we're not saying
- 1:17:18we'll come here and give me this and I'll give you that.
- 1:17:21Oh, yeah. Thus the spirit of the gifting
- 1:17:23cycle remains in US at all times.
- 1:17:25We understand what it means to a gift for a gift.
- 1:17:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:17:33Or like you, you come to my like say like you come to my house,
- 1:17:36or I was telling I come to your house because you invited me,
- 1:17:39right? And then I was like, I
- 1:17:42accidentally leave something there, right?
- 1:17:45That's happened before too, the places I've gone.
- 1:17:47Yeah. And I was like, well, it landed
- 1:17:50there, so you keep it. Yeah, I'm that way sometimes.
- 1:17:55I would really like, I'll give something of mine to somebody
- 1:17:59else just so they can have it because I had no more need for
- 1:18:03it, you know? Yeah, we had like that happen,
- 1:18:07that fire on the mountain this past year, and we knew where we,
- 1:18:10like some people may have left something behind.
- 1:18:12I left a tobacco bag, a leather bag that somebody made for me to
- 1:18:16keep tobacco in. Yeah.
- 1:18:18I got home. I realized I didn't have it
- 1:18:20anymore. I asked about it.
- 1:18:21They. And then it was, oh, yeah, it's
- 1:18:23here and I'm happy to mail it to you.
- 1:18:25I said no, no, keep it. Hold on to it.
- 1:18:27I know it's safe. You you will keep it safe.
- 1:18:30And when I come back, I'll get it.
- 1:18:32Or you can use it. Until then, it's fine.
- 1:18:34You know, You know, other people have had the same thing happen.
- 1:18:37Where they go, is this yours? And they go, yeah, but you're
- 1:18:40going to have more use for it than I will more times than I
- 1:18:44will. Just go ahead.
- 1:18:45It's yours now. And I've received gifts that I
- 1:18:49didn't expect either. Like somebody gave me my, it was
- 1:18:53my first Wicker man that I went to the guy who I talked to.
- 1:19:01I haven't, I don't talk to him as much, but he just gave me out
- 1:19:03of the blue gave me what's it called?
- 1:19:10So it's with a, it's a stone. Amethyst.
- 1:19:14Amethyst. Yes, it's a amethyst.
- 1:19:16And yeah, yes, the way I was like the amethyst, that's one
- 1:19:23thing is like, and so I just had to keep it.
- 1:19:26I hang, I hung on to it for a while.
- 1:19:28I still have it, but I still yet had to reciprocate that back to
- 1:19:33him. But it will happen, you know,
- 1:19:35once I can get a hold of him, taste him down.
- 1:19:39But you know, one thing I did one time I had a bag of crystals
- 1:19:45as well, the other crystals as well that was using the help
- 1:19:48protect me and protect my energy from bad.
- 1:19:50I'll, you know, going in a new place and stuff.
- 1:19:54And I have a friend. She's she has a bad home life
- 1:19:59right now. I'm not going to name names
- 1:20:01again, but she don't speak hardly speak to me though.
- 1:20:06But she gave me I gave her one time I gave her a jaw harp for
- 1:20:13for the thing. For our friendship and stuff and
- 1:20:16she gave me something back but the same day I gave her
- 1:20:20something to help her protect her energy, her luck, her weird
- 1:20:24whatever from her I'll home life because I felt like she needed
- 1:20:31more than I did. Yeah, and man, that's really,
- 1:20:35I'm not sure that meant a lot. The thing is because of her home
- 1:20:39life is reason why she doesn't communicate with me.
- 1:20:42She's afraid that it's going to come back on me and I'm like,
- 1:20:45don't worry about me, I'm fine. It's it's you have more or
- 1:20:52worried about and I'm like, and that's sometimes those kind of
- 1:20:58situations are hard to get out of too.
- 1:21:01For sure, you know, it's, it's tragic when, when we can't
- 1:21:05engage with people that mean something to us, you know, and
- 1:21:09people find themselves in a situation where they fear for
- 1:21:12their safety if they continue to be engaged.
- 1:21:17And we see this a lot in, in non traditional religious circles
- 1:21:22or, or, or environments. You know, there's plenty of
- 1:21:24people even now and today in, in the Middle Tennessee area that
- 1:21:27I'm around who come to events. And if there's photography or if
- 1:21:32there's people taking pictures, they're like, make sure that I'm
- 1:21:35not in it. Or if you do take a picture,
- 1:21:37don't share it anywhere. You know, they have to hide
- 1:21:41themselves. They come to these events
- 1:21:43because they know that it's a safe place for them to be
- 1:21:45themselves and they can be free of that.
- 1:21:48Whereas in their home life or in their whatever day-to-day life,
- 1:21:51they have to pretend they have to hide.
- 1:21:52And it's, you know, it's sad that, that, that we're still at
- 1:21:57that place in, in our. Human it's not a matter of her
- 1:21:59hiding either from that is hiding her friendship with her
- 1:22:05friendships or. Well, yeah, same thing.
- 1:22:09I mean, not maybe not the exact same thing, but in the same in
- 1:22:11the vein of that, you know, you can't talk to certain people
- 1:22:14because they're associated with some things and the people that
- 1:22:16you're around are going to judge you for or whatever, you know.
- 1:22:20And that's again. I still wish she she'll contact
- 1:22:22me again. She don't.
- 1:22:25Yeah, she don't Friend. She has a friend.
- 1:22:28She doesn't have many friends. She doesn't have me as a friend
- 1:22:30on Facebook anymore. But I still can see her through
- 1:22:33other places, you know? Yeah.
- 1:22:36But it's a type of situation it's hard to get out of and
- 1:22:42we'll just leave that that, you know, right.
- 1:22:44Yeah. Going back to our subject, we
- 1:22:46need to stay on topic here a little bit more.
- 1:22:48Yeah. Yeah, like, like another, like,
- 1:22:51let's go back and like the like spirits, though, like the yeah.
- 1:22:57And Speaking of, did he still did Greg still have his little
- 1:23:02Nissan up there up in the rafters?
- 1:23:10He has, he has one. There's one that's like over
- 1:23:13his, his, oh, over his little cubicle.
- 1:23:16Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The at the tattoo shop.
- 1:23:19Yeah. He's got, he's got a whole like
- 1:23:21shelf and altar that we spent some time there.
- 1:23:25We, we, we, we had a prayer and a dedication to the gods and
- 1:23:28ancestors and stuff. He also has a statue of Odin
- 1:23:31like hanging up up on one of the Yep.
- 1:23:34Yep. The top portions and then around
- 1:23:37his own personal little space, he's got a little Neeson.
- 1:23:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I, I, I look up there like being
- 1:23:46a look up and everything. It's like cool, I need to go
- 1:23:49back and see him. He's a little off sometimes.
- 1:23:52Aren't we all, though? Yeah, like I think he's more
- 1:23:56socially awkward than I am. I don't know, man.
- 1:24:00You're both you're both great to have on a show, you know, like
- 1:24:03there's no shortage of conversation to have.
- 1:24:07That was that was, you know, one of the I don't say that not be
- 1:24:09first, but honestly one of the few in person podcasts that I've
- 1:24:14done with people where we're sitting in the same room, we're
- 1:24:18at the same table and we're just talking like we are, but but in
- 1:24:22the same room. He was, he was great.
- 1:24:25We it was funny. We did you watch that episode or
- 1:24:28did you did you catch that episode?
- 1:24:30Remember at the beginning, like we're sitting there and like the
- 1:24:33cops blow by and they're sirens and we're like, welcome.
- 1:24:35Yeah, yeah, that, that was the shout out by the way on there
- 1:24:41too. Was that you, Blake?
- 1:24:44Were you? Were you running from the law?
- 1:24:45Was that you? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:48I was streaking that night. I knew it.
- 1:24:51I knew it. I heard about a hairy Wildman
- 1:24:54running naked across across the purple hair.
- 1:24:57Purple. Hair.
- 1:25:00The thing is. The thing is though, I'm
- 1:25:03different in person than I am here online with just talking
- 1:25:06with you. Like I didn't hardly talked with
- 1:25:08you even at Shadowmoot just. Well, there was a lot of other
- 1:25:11things going on there too. You were drumming, you were
- 1:25:13playing the toggle harp, you know what I mean?
- 1:25:15Like you were you? Were I was trying to
- 1:25:17respectfully give you your space because you had people that you
- 1:25:20know longer than I have, so you need to give them more attention
- 1:25:24than me, you know, I'm just a guest, you know?
- 1:25:29And you were an honoured guest. It was great having you.
- 1:25:31And I know, I know that when, when there's other things going
- 1:25:34on in the area, you I'm sure, you know, when they're, when
- 1:25:37they're public, I'll definitely make sure you know about it.
- 1:25:39Because if you can't make it and you want to bring your
- 1:25:42instruments and and have that element there, that was so much
- 1:25:45fun, you know, hearing that sound and, and those sounds at
- 1:25:49an event. For the day.
- 1:25:50I'm hoping one day we could actually get the share of fire
- 1:25:53together though. We'll make it happen.
- 1:25:55We got to make. It happen, especially if we
- 1:25:58could get the shadow boots to last a little bit longer again
- 1:26:01like they once did. Yeah, I think yeah, I don't know
- 1:26:06what what this year's plans are with them, but I do know that
- 1:26:09they hope to have a a more camp worthy space on on on some
- 1:26:16private property to to hopefully do it again remains to be seen.
- 1:26:20We'll we'll keep our fingers across this so but.
- 1:26:23But maybe we'll maybe we'll get the drum together to get, you
- 1:26:27know, get around the fire to talk.
- 1:26:29But yeah, but again, go with the bait.
- 1:26:34Go with the bait here and stuff. Explain that it's a little bit
- 1:26:37more simpler than just saying you know, sometimes you know
- 1:26:45it's. Well, it's a it's a term that
- 1:26:48it's just spirit, you know? Yeah, spirit.
- 1:26:51So you call it landvitir land spirit, you know, fisvitir house
- 1:26:55spirit, fialvitir mountain spirit, right.
- 1:26:59So it's just the veitir means spirit but.
- 1:27:01It's the native. Word that doesn't, you know, you
- 1:27:04say spirit people think, oh, spooky ghost or something like,
- 1:27:07no, it's, it's the living force of the, the landscape, you know.
- 1:27:12But when I go into the, when I go into the hierarchy of
- 1:27:15spirits, that's when people go, oh, wow.
- 1:27:19You know, it's like I was sitting there like explaining
- 1:27:22like, oh, the tree has a spirit, but it also has this little
- 1:27:26ecosystem in that tree, which has a bunch of spirits as well,
- 1:27:30you know? Oh yeah.
- 1:27:32Then you have the spirit of this area of the woods, and then you
- 1:27:36have the whole woods itself that has a spirit that governs like
- 1:27:40you have a spirit, you have a spirit of the lake.
- 1:27:44The river, you know, the mountain, the yeah, the
- 1:27:48landscape. And what's interesting that
- 1:27:50we're talking about this now as we kind of get close towards the
- 1:27:52end, you know, last week's episode was with a field
- 1:27:57scientist who's heathen. And his life is, you know, his
- 1:28:02livelihood, His, his, his, his career is spent connecting with
- 1:28:08the land spirits, you know, sacred ecology.
- 1:28:10That's it. You know, he he gets a chance to
- 1:28:14be in their presence day in and day out.
- 1:28:18You speak with them and to try to understand what is it that
- 1:28:20you need? You know, why is the farmland
- 1:28:23not doing this or that, right? You know, let's let's bring you
- 1:28:26back to health. Let's nurture you back to
- 1:28:28health. Let's give back to you just so
- 1:28:29you can revert back to your natural life knowing all of
- 1:28:33this. And yeah, so, so veytir when you
- 1:28:36talk to other people and have you have you have you had
- 1:28:38conversations with people who don't know what vaitier are?
- 1:28:41And then you explain and they go, oh, you mean the whites or
- 1:28:45you mean the the the the fae folk or, you know, like there's
- 1:28:49different I have. Several I have several times,
- 1:28:51especially in the same area where we've been talking about
- 1:28:57Weird and Megan and Main and everything same area of of the
- 1:29:01town that I live in. It's kind of hard.
- 1:29:05Like these people are so eclectic, though.
- 1:29:06They're open and accepting of it, but they just don't under
- 1:29:10they don't understand, but they keep asking me like, oh, what's
- 1:29:12that? You know, like it's not like,
- 1:29:14oh, like chastising, you know, it's more like a sense of
- 1:29:19wonderment. Like a like people I talk to,
- 1:29:22when I talk to about this, they're like children whenever I
- 1:29:26talk to them about it. Yeah, the fascination, right?
- 1:29:30Yeah, the wonderment and stuff. It's like telling stories and
- 1:29:32stuff. Oh.
- 1:29:34Cool. Which Speaking of stories, I
- 1:29:36need to start living to my name, though being a being a skull
- 1:29:40that works. I need to Start learning how to
- 1:29:42write lyrics. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:46Lyrics, which I decided to keep the name for right now because
- 1:29:51it would be too much. Just going on disrecute and
- 1:29:54doing another renaming it. Yeah, write some, write some
- 1:29:58stories. You know, what would be what
- 1:30:00would be really interesting is if you could ever like connect
- 1:30:06with other groups, whether they're kindred tribe or, or or
- 1:30:10or whatever. And maybe they have a story, you
- 1:30:16know, folklore of their own tribe and then you can help
- 1:30:21write a song to tell that story. It'll probably have to be an
- 1:30:25English, I just. I don't do well at Old Norse.
- 1:30:28Well, who? Who?
- 1:30:29Yeah, I mean like. I can pronounce it, I can
- 1:30:33pronounce it, but I can't translate it too well.
- 1:30:36Yeah, yeah, me either. You know, I've, I've heard
- 1:30:39enough of it. It's probably, I could maybe
- 1:30:41pronounce it well enough. Maybe.
- 1:30:43I go I go online and stuff. I look up several dictionaries
- 1:30:46and see which one's the common word or something, you know?
- 1:30:51But the 2-2 words together, it's kind of hard for me, like
- 1:30:55because they didn't have the type of adjectives that we had,
- 1:30:58you know? Well, yeah, I mean, and that and
- 1:31:02it's, you know, it's, it is a, it is a dead language by all
- 1:31:05intents and purposes. It's, it's a reconstructed
- 1:31:07language. So you know how it sounded.
- 1:31:09We're we're reconstructing it based on certain things.
- 1:31:13But so, yeah, reconstruct. Like, try to pick names for
- 1:31:19things they like. Even for my drums, you know, I
- 1:31:23had to rethink. I I haven't wrote rethought.
- 1:31:26Yeah, rethinked with my name, my drums, you know, I still call
- 1:31:30them by that, by those names, you know, like for instance, my
- 1:31:35big one here, I call it Ikaloca, which means Oak Stream put
- 1:31:43together because that's what came to me in the journey that
- 1:31:47we did when I first made made him.
- 1:31:52Oak Stream, Nice. Yeah.
- 1:31:54And then the small one is Smardinia or or however you say
- 1:32:01it. It means little Thunder because
- 1:32:06it was when I first got it was like massive, like how loud it
- 1:32:10was for a little drum that size. You OK?
- 1:32:22Oh, I think we lost him again. We're back.
- 1:32:28OK, yeah, and you're frozen again.
- 1:32:39I am the host now. Well, ha ha ha, Blake.
- 1:32:49You're not the host. Actually, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:32:54this was a great show. It was a technically or, you
- 1:33:01know, technology was, was was being very fickle.
- 1:33:06It was it was it was being difficult for this week's
- 1:33:09episode. But Needless to say, Blake and I
- 1:33:14kind of finished the episode talking about the Bates here.
- 1:33:21I had a great time talking with Blake.
- 1:33:22I'd like to have him back on the show.
- 1:33:23So he will be returning for another episode later on in
- 1:33:27season 6 to pick up on kind of where we left off and, you know,
- 1:33:34talk about other things. But due to technical.
- 1:33:37Issues the that last part where where he says I'm the host now
- 1:33:42MO ha ha ha. That's kind of where things fell
- 1:33:45off. We're having technical issues
- 1:33:48throughout the night of of the recording and this is how we're
- 1:33:52having to close it out or, you know, sign everybody off for the
- 1:33:55week. So in spite of the technical
- 1:33:59issues, I hope you all did enjoy this podcast.

- 1:34:18Anyway, I'm not going to get too much into the minutiae of that.
