Transcript
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Livestocks ended the week on the good foot, mostly.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: We had some fireworks in the crude oil, and corn and beans and wheat really acted very much the same way they did yesterday.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I'll run down some news and I'll update you on retail fertilizer prices as promised.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: And then let's get to the weekend.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: From behind the big blue, bodacious microphone of Ag Bull, your pal Davis Michelson, the handsome newsman.

- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I'm still a little foggy in the noggin from the week.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: If you caught the show yesterday, and a heck of a show it was, by the way, with Andrew Phillips from Farm, I want to make sure that I say it right, from Farmers Fuel, yes, Farmer's Fuel Coffee.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: We finally got a combine cab confession.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: But I was wearing sunglasses yesterday, recovering from some ocular disruptions related to some headaches I've been having this week.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: It's not fun, but I think I'm pretty sure I'm over the hump now.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I'm at least in my regular glasses, you know?
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: That feels like an improvement.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Glad to have you here for Ag Squawk in the afternoon, everybody.

- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Austin.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And all of y'all who have decided, you know what?
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm just gonna hook in for a whole year and get one of these bad boys.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They're good.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They're really good.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: I uh I have one myself.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I've put it through its paces.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm I've got very distinguishing musical tastes, and uh, it sounds good.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Good bass response, gets nice and loud if you need it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Doesn't have to.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: It's got an up and a down volume button.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Both.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, what more could you ask for?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: $250 for a one-year subscription.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Gets you two months for free of the of our premium content.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Plus, as a uh as a thank you, just a small little thank you, a token of our esteem to you.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Uh we'll send you one of those Bluetooth speakers.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Or as I always say, take it slow.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: You can go month to month.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: $25 a month.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Heavens, for what you get, uh you you can hardly afford not to.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Isn't that what they say?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Something like that?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Well, anyway, thanks, Austin.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Austin got one, took a picture and sent it to us, or sent it to the Twitter maker where we saw it there.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're gonna run down fertilizers today.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: It's just me.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Just me and my uh shirt.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I got the shirt of Tractor Supply, actually, my tractor supply shirt, and it's it's just the two of us.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Glad to have you along.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get right to the tail of the ticker, some news items, just a few.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: There's some interesting ones in there that I pulled out from the news today.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And then uh for better or worse, I don't know.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, you gotta know.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: If there's one thing that we learned this week and even even last week, when you when you go to have those conversations with your financier, it's good to have an idea of what's going on as far as prices go, as far as your potential expenses, your your budget.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And and so it's important to keep an eye on these through the good, the bad, and the ugly.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: There is some good news in this one.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: But yeah, well, we'll we'll wait.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I'll I'll I'll wait on that.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I'll wait on that.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Let's get to the tail of the ticker first.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Corn and winter weed futures blipped higher at the get-go and then sank back below unchanged in early trade as soybeans posted solid gains.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle futures waffled around unchanged as light selling pressure pointed fat cattle lower.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Lean hog futures were mixed in early session trade.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: And let's just jump right out to the settlements here.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go straight to the corns.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: December corn, four and one half cents lower on the day at four fifty-six.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: November soybean futures were higher on the day, three and one half cents higher.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: In fact, 1256 and one half.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Soybean meal was mixed.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Nearby's were lower, but the the further out you get here, the deferred soybean meal contracts were higher.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Soybean oil higher across the board here, at least across my screen.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: The the winter wheats.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Now, this is interesting, they're pretty much lower.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: You you see I've got the arrow in red there, but the uh the the quarter cent is in green, meaning it's gone higher.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, that is the case for the December Chicago wheat, up one quarter of one cent at 625 at settlement.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: After that, and all throughout the KC contracts were lower.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: So I'm calling it basically lower on the day, with the exception of that quarter cent rise in the December Chicago.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: December KC wheat was down one cent and a quarter at 66 and 44.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Tabbing over to the live stocks.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, yeah, kind of faltered, stumbled just a wee bit at the beginning of the day here.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: But by the end of the day, I've got the November feeder cattle up$1.23.48,$12 and a half.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: The January contract of those uh feeder cattles, a buck thirty-five higher, three forty-five thirty-five.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And over to the fat cattle, more mixed sort of action here in the uh the Fed cattle.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: 231, 12, and one half is where the December contract settled out.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: That's dead steady.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Unchanged on the day.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: The October contract, 12.5 cents higher.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: The February, a dime lower on your fat cattle.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: February futures at 233 and 35.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And then we're 15 cents higher in the April.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: You can't figure the fat cattle today.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: It just there's no there's no sense to it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Over to the lean hog futures, two and a half cents higher in the December contract, 65, 57, and one half, and 20 cents higher in the Feb 67, 62 and 12.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Now, with that, let's let's get to some news here quick.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Before we do, I'd like to say thank you to plus 500.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I've said it before, but here at Ag Bull, we use Plus500 T4 software every single day for real-time quotes, futures, options, a host of dandy features.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Plus 500, thank you to plus 500.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Trust plus 500.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: All right, let's begin here.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I'll get into the uh retail diesel prices according to USDA.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: But I I thought maybe we'd start here with a uh with a news note from GasBuddy.com.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Diesel and gas prices began this week heading in opposite directions.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Patrick Dehan with GasBuddy.com says that various geopolitical tensions, whether that's the US and Iran, Russia and Ukraine, remain top of mind for the oil markets.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: He said, quote, I think what's taking over is the potential that President Trump outlined pausing Russian sanctions.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Though personally, I think that maybe wrong the wrong message to send to Russia.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Having more Russian oil in the market potentially by easing sanctions would mean more supply.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Having said that, Dehan continues.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: When it comes to refined products, we've seen diesel prices going up gently in the last week across the majority of states, while gas prices have decreased in a majority of states over the last week.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: I wanted to check out the WTI crude price here as well.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: So the December contract on your West Texas Intermediate crude oil, high of the day at 103.34, currently bumping up against that, trading at uh 103.09 out to the jan.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: We're still at 100 bucks off the high of uh 101.16, but at$100.76 per barrel.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: It's not we get out to the February and we're down at 98, and then it sort of dribs and drabs out down into the high 80s from there.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: But it looks like we're gonna get yeah, 100 plus WTI crude futures, and uh, of course, Brent will run just a little hotter than that.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Not a good sign, not a good sign for diesel and uh gasoline prices.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Here's an interesting one.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know if this one's on your mind or not.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: I've mentioned it to several guests just to just to bounce the idea around and see where thoughts are.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: But data center development is drawing growing concern across party lines, particularly over farmland, water, and electricity costs.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: A University of Illinois Farm Doc Daily Analysis found Democrats reported the greatest concern, averaging more than 5.5 on a seven-point scale.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: So seven would be the ultimate, terrifying, shocking concern.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: They're clear up at a 5.5 on a seven-point scale for effects on ag land, water use, and electricity prices, but concern has risen among Republicans and independents between February and August 2026.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Republicans concerned about land and water use increased from 4.5 up to 5.2.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Worry about farmland conversion rose among Democrats and Republicans almost equally.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: The findings come as developers seek sites in rural areas.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas reports ag production is slowing in West Texas as acreage shifts to data centers and alternative energy.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: An Illinois farm manager survey found about one quarter of respondents had been approached by data center developers for the first half of 2026.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: A little note here on ethanol production climbed to its highest level in five weeks.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Inventories also up during the weekended October 16.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Production averaged 1.094 million barrels per day, the highest weekly average since the weekending September 11.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, ethanol stocks increased to 24.558 million barrels.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: That's the highest level since September 18.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I hate to see those stocks moving in that direction, but maybe with the summer driving season all but wrapped up, this is where we're at seasonally with a little bit uh little higher inventories for your ethanol stocks.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: All right, let's do get to fertilizers now.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start with uh with NH3 for uh for better or worse.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: And you can see, all right, if if you're just joining us, if you haven't seen one of my fertilizer shows first, let me translate my uh chart for you here.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: The light blue is this year, goes back to uh January of 2026.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: So the light blue at the at the top there is this year's price path.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: The purple is 2025, so that's last year, and then the dashed line here is a three-year average that I've calculated.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: And on the week, anhydrosamonia, well, since since the most recent report, let's put it that way.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Since the most recent report, anhydrosamonia is up 61.05 per short ton.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: That's increases in both Iowa, which now sits at 905.50 a short ton, and Illinois at 94750 per short ton for an average of 926.50 between Iowa and Illinois.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Once again, that's an increase since our most recent report of$61.05 per short ton.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: That's a 7.05% increase.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Let's go over to the uh to the phosphates now, where the it just it continues.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: It continues.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: There is good news coming up here.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: I've got a little bit of good news coming up.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Don't worry, don't worry.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: I've got DAP up uh 72 cents a ton.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: That's not bad.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: We could we can handle that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: 92929 a ton.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: That's up just 0.08%.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: It's eight tenths of a point higher since USGA's most recent report.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Map, something got into map here,$17.33 and a half higher on your map at$9.59.84.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Vitamin K gentle potash gained 4.42 percent during the report period, up$21.34 at$5.04.50 per short ton.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Now I want to go back to the uh to the NH3 while I talk about the rest of the nitrogen segment here because this is where the good news comes in.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Let's start here.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: So I I had anhydros up 7.05% during the period.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Here we've got urea up 6.65%.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: That marks a$48 per ton increase to 770 per ton.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, but the the sun's coming out.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: The sun's coming out.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: I got UAN 32% down 3.13% during the report period.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: That's a a discount of$16.60 per short ton.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Now priced at$514 in the Midwest,$5.14 per short ton on your 32%, 28% gets the effort award among the uh nitrogens down 7.7% on the period.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: That's uh almost$40, nearly a$40 decline since our last discussion about this$467.86.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Now, the the question is always will they continue lower?
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised they went lower.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I'll be perfectly honest with you.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Considering where our UAN comes from, yes, we do have domestic production, and yes, it has increased not so much, not as much as it needs to, and not so much lately, but there have been domestic production increases here in the United States.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: But unfortunately, a lot of UAN, a lot of the nitrogen, a lot of the ammonia comes out of areas that are imperiled and embattled, places where there are wars, you know, like oh, I don't know, Iran.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: It's got to come through the Strait of Hormuz.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Russia's involved here.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And the thing with the phosphates, too, we'd like to get some out of China.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And there was talk of China sending us some phosphates.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I don't think we've seen that.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: We certainly haven't seen any price relief from that.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: So you now might be a good time to get in touch with your preferred retailer and have a talk with them about UAN.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: See if she's gonna continue to slide.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: If if it's gonna bounce from here, you you might want to think about getting something done.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: And I know you're trying to make decisions about what to do after after harvest as as far as applications go.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: And I'd I'd really like to see a little a little dip for you on the PK, especially, but but once again, I've got DAP, map, and potash.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: In fact, potash led the uh led the PK segment higher, up over almost four and a half percent there.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Dap and map up more mildly, but uh we're seeing increases in PK just as harvest is uh as you're probably starting to think about adding some uh some P and K back into the soil after after harvest.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: So talk with your preferred retailer, figure out a plan.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: We got to get this figured out.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: There's a way around it.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: I just I just I don't know what it is right now.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: I wish I did.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: All told we're moving in the wrong direction.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Moving in the wrong direction.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, so here we have our our fertilizer price index, our FPI.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: And down here below is is uh one acre of expected new crop revenue based on December futures.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: And you can see they're moving in the wrong direction.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Ideally, I would like to see the purple line above the blue line in this one.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: That would mean that fertilizer is cheaper than what you can get for an acre of new crop corn revenue.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: We were kind of headed in the right direction for a little bit there, but not to be so currently.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: So I figured this at uh 808.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: 808.20 on one acre of expected new crop revenue.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: And unfortunately, we've we've fallen since then.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: But I figured that off of the date that these fertilizer numbers came out so we could compare them nice and easy.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: All told our fertilizer price index is at 1,042.8.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: That's up 10 points from uh from my previous report.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And for better or worse, we got to talk about diesel.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Now you heard uh Patrick De Hahn there talking about uh yeah, gasoline has kind of come down.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And sure, some uh some Russian imports of crude oil might help a little bit, but what we need is finished products.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: We need the finished product, and refiners in the U.S.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: are already in the mid-90s of production capacity.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: So there's there's not a whole lot of headroom there to hit the gas, so to speak, and increase production.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: So what we really need is finished products here in the United States.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: The prices have increased since our last analysis here.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: I've got uh Ruby Red at$5.49 in Iowa,$576 in Illinois for an average of$5.63 per gallon.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: That's an increase of$0.7 per gallon since our last report, up 1.26%.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: And I didn't show the chart on this, but LPs are running.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: You don't see this very often, up from$1.48 in our most recent report, up 7.43%, up 11 cents to$1.59 per gallon on the LP.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: It's getting to be the time of year for that.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Fortunately, it's it's been dry for harvest, so maybe we can get by with the with a little less LP usage in the dryer there.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: And I I hope that is the case.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: We've got some nice warm weather.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: So uh we've we've had the heat on a couple of times here in KC, but you know, winter's winter's a coming, and LP just kind of seems ahead of the game, just a little bit up 11 cents in this report there.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: All right, that's gonna wrap up my fertilizer analysis for us there.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Like I said, talk to your preferred retailer.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: You might need to bring your financier in and and just sort of crunch some numbers, see what you can figure out.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe it makes sense to put down some P and K right after harvest here.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: I I know a lot of folks like to do that, and it's convenient, it works out, the timing is right, and that may be the way for you to go.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: The the best thing is to sit down, start to make a plan, and start to to manage some of these decisions so uh things don't just happen to you.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: I want you to uh I want you to succeed.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: And so uh talk to your talk to your FERT guy, talk to your your Ruby guy, and just just see what they know.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: See what see what they know and what they uh they think you might should ought to do.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: All right, let's get on to the weather here.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: It's been really nice in Kansas City.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: I don't know, we're sitting at probably 75-ish degrees here, sunshiny, and we're expected to hold on to that.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: We've got that high pressure system.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: I've learned all about high pressure systems over the last week, and that's why you may be out combining corn right now.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: A little bit warmer than average over the midsection of the country, drier than average for this time of year.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Certainly, there are areas who are just getting smashed with rain and flood out west there.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: You can see the the blue and green blobs there.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Now, there is rain over Minnesota and headed toward Iowa.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if it's if it's gonna make it over deeper into the corn belt there, over to the eastern belt or or not.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Let's see what the National Weather Service says.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: There we go, over parts of the northern plains and upper Mississippi Valley on Friday.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: That's today.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: By tomorrow morning, Saturday, rain with embedded thunderstorms will develop over parts of the upper Midwest.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: By Sunday morning, rain will develop over parts of the northern central plains and into the upper Great Lakes.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: If if this verifies, let me just say it again for y'all in the back.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: By Saturday morning, rain with embedded thunderstorms will develop over parts of the upper Midwest.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Looks like it's already in uh in Minnesota.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: By Sunday morning, rain will develop over parts of the northern and central plains and into the upper Great Lakes.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Safety first, of course, but for some of y'all, the harvest window that we've been enjoying for several days now may be about to close.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: I'm not a weatherologist, but the uh National Weather Service certainly does indicate the chance that uh some showers are headed across parts of the, I would say northern parts of the of the corn belt itself, out into the east there, and at least over into the upper Great Lakes.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Still warm, still a little bit of red through the mid middle of the country here, a little above normal weather.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: I think we're probably gonna see that clear out by about the middle of next week, is what I'm hearing.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: And we'll have more seasonal like temperatures.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: And with that, the change will probably bring us some rain and perhaps even some thunderstorms.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: So if you're if you're able to get out there, if you're able to get after it, I'd say you're you're I'm just gonna say your window is open.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Your window is open.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Don't uh don't fail to use it.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: And with that, uh sweet fancy Moses.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: I got that Friday feeling today.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: It's been a Tough week.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I haven't felt good like all week.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling mostly better.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: I'm about 85%, 82%.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: 82%.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: I'm looking forward to uh to next week.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: I've got some cool stuff lined up.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: I think you're really going to enjoy it.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Let's get to some items of mild interest and see if I can interest myself.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: In uh 1959, it's the birthday of Weird Al Yankovic.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: I wasn't uh I wasn't a big Weird Al guy until I saw the movie uh UHF with Michael Richards and the potato salad of injustice, spatula city, we don't need no stinking badgers.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Weird Al.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Happy birthday, Weird Al.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: And speaking of weirdos, it's my brother's birthday today.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: As I said earlier.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Happy birthday to my brother George.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Here he is.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Now I think this was Halloween at grandma's house sometime in the late 70s.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: I think it was Halloween.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: But it is possible that we were all just sort of walking around in our 10-gallon hats with our cap guns on our sides because that's what you did back in the uh back in the olden times, back in the 1900s.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: And uh just one more in 2001, the Apple iPod First Gen was pre-released on this date, October 23rd, 2001.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Remember those iPods, the old ones?
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was quite the deal.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Quite the deal.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Put the uh put the Walkman's right out of business.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: I'm rebuilding my CD collection, actually.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: I a bunch of mine got all scratched up and I said, heck with it, what do I need this for a few years ago?
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: I'm not proud of that decision because I had a pretty decent collection.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: But I let them all go and uh now I'm I'm collecting them back.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: And I guess, you know, if anything, it's it's been a healthy sort, you might say.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: Just sort of sorting through and deciding, well, what what do I even remember that I had?
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: If I remember that I had them and liked them, well, that's probably a good indication that, you know, maybe I maybe I need to seek those those out again.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: The search continues through thrift stores and uh secondhand booksellers and whatnot, getting back into that physical media just like we used to do in the 1900s.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm really glad that you were here today with me, everyone, on this Friday afternoon.
