- 0:00Dot com. Welcome to the Daily Quote, the
- 0:06podcast designed to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:11I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and this episode is brought to
- 0:14you by the Great News Podcast. Give it a listen because good
- 0:19news should be heard. Today's quote comes from Steve
- 0:22Martin, comedian, actor, playwright, author, and banjo
- 0:28player. A man who spent decades at the
- 0:31absolute top of his craft across multiple disciplines.
- 0:36When asked how to make it in show business, he gave the same
- 0:39answer every time and noticed that nobody ever took note of
- 0:44it. He once said be so good they
- 0:49can't ignore you. He knew why nobody took note of
- 0:52it, because it's not the answer people want to hear.
- 0:57What they want is here's how you get an agent.
- 1:01Or here's how to write a script. Here's the formula, the recipe
- 1:05for success, the shortcut, the contract, the inside track.
- 1:10Martin's answer has none of that.
- 1:12No networking tips, no platform strategies, no personal branding
- 1:16frameworks. Just 6 words that redirect every
- 1:20question about success back to the one thing that actually
- 1:24creates it. The work.
- 1:28The work itself. Think about what can't ignore
- 1:32you really means not, won't ignore can't.
- 1:37There's a level of excellence so undeniable that the gatekeepers,
- 1:41whoever they are in your field, lose the ability to look past
- 1:45it. Taste is subjective.
- 1:49Relationships are fickle. Timing is uncertain.
- 1:54A genuine, sustained, extraordinary craft has a
- 1:57gravitational pull that eventually bends everything
- 2:01toward it, and Martin earned the right to say this.
- 2:06He spent years playing small venues, refining his act through
- 2:10thousands of performances, obsessively studying what worked
- 2:15and what didn't, before becoming one of the most successful
- 2:18entertainers in American history.
- 2:21He didn't network his way to the top, he worked his way there.
- 2:26He became so good that the industry had no choice but to
- 2:31respond. And this relates directly to
- 2:34Naval Ravikant's 10,000 iterations quote we covered
- 2:38recently. It's not passive repetition,
- 2:43it's the relentless pursuit of better.
- 2:46And it answers that question most people are secretly asking.
- 2:51What do I do when the door won't open?
- 2:55Martin's answer is the same every time.
- 2:58Stop knocking. Get so good the door opens
- 3:02itself. Every episode of this podcast is
- 3:06an attempt to get a little bit better than the last one, not to
- 3:11game an algorithm or engineer a viral moment, just to make
- 3:17something good enough that it earns the next listen.
- 3:21That's the only strategy I'm using to grow this show right
- 3:24now, So if you like it, recommend it to a friend.
- 3:30Martin was right, and he was right that nobody wants to hear
- 3:34it too, because it's slower and harder and less glamorous than a
- 3:39shortcut. But it's the only one that
- 3:44actually works. So here's the question.
- 3:47Are you spending more energy trying to be seen, or more
- 3:51energy trying to be genuinely, undeniably good at the thing
- 3:55you're trying to do? Because the visibility
- 3:58strategies change, the platforms shift, the algorithms evolve,
- 4:05but extraordinary craft has always had the same outcome.
- 4:11Eventually, inevitably, people can't ignore it.
- 4:18So be so good they can't ignore you.
- 4:21That's the whole strategy right there.
- 4:25That's it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off
- 4:28for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 4:33Same pod time, same pod stationed with another daily
- 4:41quote.
