- 15:34Speaker 6: with this beautiful, mindful SaaS minute for our show and
- 15:38Speaker 6: it gets you going for the week. And now let's
- 15:40Speaker 6: bring in Daniel Johnson from the UN News Department. How
- 15:44Speaker 6: are you today, Daniel?
- 15:45Speaker 21: This is UN News Today with me Daniel Johnson. The
- 15:48Speaker 21: headlines in Sudan, the UN World Food Program warns that
- 15:52Speaker 21: l obaid is becoming the new focus of a massive
- 15:54Speaker 21: displacement and hunger crisis. Meanwhile, you and Human Rights chief
- 15:59Speaker 21: ol cold Turk appeals for Khan in Pakistan Administered Kashmir
- 16:03Speaker 21: and the complicated task of trying to stop the Ebola
- 16:06Speaker 21: outbreak in eastern Deer Congo. Insight from one of the
- 16:10Speaker 21: agencies tackling the deadly health threat. You and humanitarians working
- 16:16Speaker 21: in war torn Sudan on Friday, highlighted rapidly growing needs
- 16:20Speaker 21: among the more than one hundred thousand displaced people now
- 16:23Speaker 21: sheltering in camps in the city of Elobeide. There is
- 16:26Speaker 21: not enough food to give everyone a full monthly Russian
- 16:29Speaker 21: but recipients are still sharing what they have with other families,
- 16:32Speaker 21: said Abdullah Alwadat, Wild Food Programmed Country director for Sudan.
- 16:37Speaker 21: Mister A Well provided an update and what he had
- 16:40Speaker 21: seen in l Obayed City, which now hosts hundreds of
- 16:43Speaker 21: thousands of uprooted people. He described meeting a frail aid
- 16:48Speaker 21: recipient and when I ask you know, do you have.
- 16:51Speaker 13: Any other source, Queenker, she just said, it's only what
- 16:54Speaker 13: WP is giving me, and it's not enough.
- 16:57Speaker 21: WFP has been providing food assistance to more than one
- 17:00Speaker 21: hundred thousand people in camps inside l Obed, but there
- 17:04Speaker 21: are many more displaced individuals sheltering elsewhere in the city
- 17:07Speaker 21: and they need urgent assistance, mister Alwadat insisted. He noted
- 17:12Speaker 21: that the agency also provides nutrition support to seventeen thousand
- 17:15Speaker 21: children caught up in the crisis and living in camps.
- 17:19Speaker 21: It is more than three years since Sudan's rival militaries
- 17:22Speaker 21: embarked on a brutal war that followed the collapse of
- 17:25Speaker 21: the country's transition to civilian rule after the overthrow of
- 17:29Speaker 21: long time former president omer Al Bashir. The Sudanese armed
- 17:33Speaker 21: forces continues to battle former allies the Rapid Support Forces
- 17:37Speaker 21: militia for control of the vast country, where more than
- 17:40Speaker 21: fourteen million people have been uprooted, and both sides have
- 17:43Speaker 21: been linked to grave rights violations. The UN Human Rights
- 17:47Speaker 21: chief Volka Turk has appealed for kalm in Pakistan administered
- 17:50Speaker 21: Kashmir amid unrest ahead of regional elections. Dozens of people,
- 17:55Speaker 21: mostly protesters, but also law enforcement personnel, have reportedly been
- 17:59Speaker 21: killed since June, a head of the vote for the
- 18:02Speaker 21: Legislative Assembly on the twenty seventh of July. The movement
- 18:06Speaker 21: behind the protests is the Joint Awami Action Committee or
- 18:09Speaker 21: the JAAC. Its members include traders, students and lawyers, and
- 18:14Speaker 21: it is banned under anti terrorism laws for allegedly threatening
- 18:18Speaker 21: public order and security. Some of the group's leaders have
- 18:21Speaker 21: been arrested, said you In Human Rights Office spokesperson Jeremy Lawrence.
- 18:25Speaker 22: The criminalization of the civil society organization and imposition of
- 18:30Speaker 22: strict limitations on gatherings raise serious concerns about infringements on
- 18:36Speaker 22: the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.
- 18:41Speaker 21: Mister Lawrence noted the UN Rights chiefs call to restore
- 18:44Speaker 21: full Internet access and his appeal for meaningful and inclusive
- 18:47Speaker 21: political dialogue to address underlying issues and grievances of the
- 18:51Speaker 21: local population to the Democratic Republic of the Congo DRC,
- 18:56Speaker 21: where the ongoing EBuLa outbreak has grown by approximate least
- 19:00Speaker 21: seventy percent in just the past two weeks, with an
- 19:02Speaker 21: average of more than forty new cases reported each day.
- 19:06Speaker 21: The UN Migration Agency IOM stressed that people uprooted by
- 19:10Speaker 21: violence in eastern DRC are particularly vulnerable. IOM's France Celestine
- 19:16Speaker 21: Regional director for East Horn and Southern Africa, said that
- 19:19Speaker 21: detection and response were initially hampered by the fact that
- 19:22Speaker 21: it was not known that this ebler outbreak was the
- 19:25Speaker 21: Bundibugo species. He said that it's nothing like we've seen before,
- 19:29Speaker 21: both in its scale and nature.
- 19:31Speaker 23: Of particular concern is the fact that sixty percent of
- 19:35Speaker 23: the reported deaths have occurred in communities, which highlights continued
- 19:40Speaker 23: challenges and early detection, surveillance, entirely access to care. In
- 19:46Speaker 23: several affected heazone, we are seeing our capacity to surveil
- 19:52Speaker 23: and timely response is constraint, which means that we don't
- 19:56Speaker 23: know the true impact of what's happening in the communities.
- 20:00Speaker 21: The outbreak has expanded into two new provinces, ho Luel
- 20:03Speaker 21: and Schoppo, which highlight how important it is to manage
- 20:07Speaker 21: the highly mobile health threat. Strengthening surveillance at points of
- 20:11Speaker 21: entry land and riverine communities along the Congo River holds
- 20:15Speaker 21: the key to effectively preventing further spread, not just within DRC,
- 20:19Speaker 21: but across borders. Mister Celestine said, nearly one hundred and
- 20:23Speaker 21: fifty thousand internally displaced people live in sixty nine sites
- 20:26Speaker 21: supported by the agency in eastern DRC. Another three hundred
- 20:30Speaker 21: thousand are supported by host communities. Daniel Johnson, you and news.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Thank you so much for that, Daniel.
- 20:37Speaker 6: And we're getting ready to bring in Zephyr into the show,
- 20:40Speaker 6: and before we do, I thought i'd play one of
- 20:43Speaker 6: her latest songs. This song is called dor Chaya. I
- 20:47Speaker 6: hope you enjoy stand by for Zephyr.
- 20:56Speaker 16: Come sure, Hobby, give on. Jake could the Shady.

- 23:41Speaker 1: Shop don.
- 23:52Speaker 7: The hash the charge Alma.
- 24:11Speaker 6: It is my distinct pleasure to introduce into the show, Zephyr.
- 24:14Speaker 5: How are you miss.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Finally?
- 24:19Speaker 5: How are you doing finally?
- 24:20Speaker 6: I think we've been planning on doing this for I
- 24:22Speaker 6: don't know, eighty five thousand years.
- 24:23Speaker 5: It's been a long time.
- 24:24Speaker 3: It's for a while for sure, for a while it has.
- 24:28Speaker 6: It's finally time we got some good Bangladeshi representation on
- 24:32Speaker 6: this show. It's been a long time coming, for sure.
- 24:34Speaker 6: So thank you very much for doing this with us today.
- 24:37Speaker 6: Your story is phenomenal. It starts off singing cover songs
- 24:43Speaker 6: in English and now here. You are a star in
- 24:47Speaker 6: the homeland and for me it's a really inspiring story.
- 24:52Speaker 6: So I want to get into that. I want to
- 24:54Speaker 6: get into the young girl before you started singing cover songs.
- 25:00Speaker 6: You know, what was that girl like, you know, before
- 25:03Speaker 6: she became this big star. How innocently was she going
- 25:07Speaker 6: into singing covers?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Tell us about this first of all, like, I'm honored
- 25:12Speaker 3: to be in your show, thank you so much. And
- 25:16Speaker 3: I was so glad finally we're doing this. So okay,
- 25:21Speaker 3: you want me to go back, right? That was way back.
- 25:25Speaker 3: First of all, I started off with English covers. Well,
- 25:32Speaker 3: I was really young in Bangladesh, right, and I was
- 25:35Speaker 3: doing everything by myself. I was in my room with
- 25:39Speaker 3: my mother's digital camera back in the days, and I
- 25:44Speaker 3: just sang, you know, I just sang different English songs.
- 25:49Speaker 3: But it definitely had my own texture, style, personality, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 3: it definitely had it. I was not that too like
- 26:03Speaker 3: put out my originals or like things that I composed
- 26:06Speaker 3: back in the days. So I started you know, light
- 26:10Speaker 3: and from there. Actually, also I had a different hairstyle.
- 26:16Speaker 3: I was mentioning, you know that hairstyle used to raise
- 26:20Speaker 3: a lot of browse. So it was the music and
- 26:26Speaker 3: the hair. I think book played a big part and
- 26:30Speaker 3: from there people noticed me because it was like, oh,
- 26:35Speaker 3: like from Balladesh, She's doing these songs like in English.
- 26:39Speaker 3: But you know, they were surprised basically. And I think
- 26:45Speaker 3: later with time I matured, I started writing and composing
- 26:54Speaker 3: myself with you know, worked with different producers and I
- 27:00Speaker 3: I came up with my debut album, which was completely
- 27:02Speaker 3: in English. So that was like something you know, people
- 27:09Speaker 3: were like, she's Bangladeshi, right, why is she like singing
- 27:14Speaker 3: in English?
- 27:15Speaker 5: And there was.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Like a lot of questions like that. But I followed
- 27:20Speaker 3: my passion and I went with it. I you know,
- 27:25Speaker 3: released the album with right that. That album was called
- 27:33Speaker 3: Uncaged and the producer of the album was his name
- 27:37Speaker 3: was Nagib His name is Nagib Hawk and he we
- 27:41Speaker 3: both actually you know, worked together on the album and
- 27:46Speaker 3: that's how I started. But over the years, I think
- 27:50Speaker 3: since I was growing up right things, definitely, I was
- 27:56Speaker 3: always experimenting with sounds. From day on, I loved experimenting
- 28:02Speaker 3: my vocals and sound. So should I go to the
- 28:07Speaker 3: next space or you have anything to say.
- 28:10Speaker 6: No, that's great, that's you know from my side, I
- 28:13Speaker 6: think for me, if you don't mind it, for I'm
- 28:15Speaker 6: going to embarrass you a little bit.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Your voice to me is very unique.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Your sound of your voice is something to me that
- 28:23Speaker 6: is a really endearing quality. And I think that the
- 28:27Speaker 6: masses out there need to hear it. You know, when
- 28:31Speaker 6: now here you are, you're singing in English, and you've
- 28:33Speaker 6: done this set of covers, you've put this album out,
- 28:37Speaker 6: and now you've and then all of a sudden in
- 28:39Speaker 6: your story comes along this song that you will eventually
- 28:42Speaker 6: end up having, you know, one hundred and fifty plus
- 28:45Speaker 6: million views on how did it get to that? How
- 28:48Speaker 6: did you get to that song?
- 28:50Speaker 5: So when I was doing.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Doing songs in English, I was called or I was
- 28:57Speaker 3: considered as a niche artist, you know, and that was
- 29:03Speaker 3: my that was part of my personality or I think,
- 29:07Speaker 3: you know, as an artist. Even I enjoyed it, you know.
- 29:10Speaker 3: So also I don't have that background where I learned music.
- 29:17Speaker 3: I have zero, you know, I've never learned it. So
- 29:20Speaker 3: it's completely like you know, I don't know, it's like
- 29:24Speaker 3: naturally self taught. Completely. So I enjoyed when you know,
- 29:32Speaker 3: I was not really available to everyone honestly, Like I
- 29:35Speaker 3: was like, yeah, let me let me do my thing,
- 29:38Speaker 3: you know. I like it this way, this is the sound,
- 29:41Speaker 3: this is the way I want to do it.
- 29:42Speaker 5: You know.
- 29:42Speaker 3: It was like my own little world. But later I
- 29:48Speaker 3: think when I was growing up, I grew up a
- 29:50Speaker 3: little bit, and then I was thinking, what am I
- 29:53Speaker 3: afraid of? You know, like as an artist, I personally
- 30:01Speaker 3: personally like to experiment, right and explore. So if I
- 30:06Speaker 3: keep calling myself a certain type of artist or okay,
- 30:14Speaker 3: this is the sound I like, and this is the
- 30:17Speaker 3: sound I just want to explore that kind of box
- 30:22Speaker 3: that's that kind of boxes me right in a way. Yeah,
- 30:27Speaker 3: it labels me. It also doesn't really help me explore.
- 30:31Speaker 3: So I actually I that. That's when I was thinking,
- 30:36Speaker 3: you know what, I will do things that might fail me.
- 30:42Speaker 3: And it was right around when there was COVID. Right,
- 30:47Speaker 3: everyone was like shut like everyone was in their house,
- 30:51Speaker 3: shut down everything. There's nothing to do. That's when I
- 30:55Speaker 3: have this realization. I could think of the whole transition
- 31:01Speaker 3: where I was like, you know what, I want to
- 31:03Speaker 3: try sounds or I want to compose songs that I
- 31:09Speaker 3: don't usually go for, okay, or even I don't picture myself.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Actually I never even preached myself. Absolutely, I did never
- 31:20Speaker 3: pictured myself So that's when the next phase started, which
- 31:26Speaker 3: was in my own language. And people used to be like,
- 31:32Speaker 3: why don't you sing in your own language, you know what.
- 31:36Speaker 3: They used to have a lot of opinion about that, right,
- 31:39Speaker 3: So I was like, that's not the reason. The reason
- 31:42Speaker 3: is I want to try it. I want to say, like,
- 31:46Speaker 3: if I can explore this side, and even if I fail,
- 31:50Speaker 3: it's all good, you know, it's completely fine. I was
- 31:53Speaker 3: not afraid. So that's when I started composing in Bangla.
- 32:00Speaker 3: In Bangla, and I think in the first one year
- 32:08Speaker 3: or two years, I actually came up with the song.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Me and another artist, his name is Musa. We both
- 32:16Speaker 3: sat and came up with this song called Chunka that happened,
- 32:22Speaker 3: which was completely different than what my identity was, you know,
- 32:28Speaker 3: completely just it's unbelievably like different. So that song when
- 32:36Speaker 3: I composed, even the melodies and stuff, it was so
- 32:39Speaker 3: different than what I usually do. And then Chunka happened
- 32:46Speaker 3: and people completely like it was like instantly I got
- 32:52Speaker 3: a lot like acceptation. You know, what is it called acceptation?
- 32:58Speaker 5: Actually?
- 32:58Speaker 3: You know, yes, it was like right away, I was
- 33:01Speaker 3: like it was released and I'm accepted right away, and
- 33:06Speaker 3: I'm like, whoa, that's this is a different world right
- 33:10Speaker 3: right here? What is this world like? And I got
- 33:13Speaker 3: curious and then I dived into this world where now
- 33:18Speaker 3: I can say that I have done a lot of
- 33:22Speaker 3: Bengali music in different styles, and yeah, I have. My
- 33:28Speaker 3: identity has completely changed.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Actually, yeah, it's phenomenal. It's quite a journey going.
- 33:36Speaker 6: From that space of English to you know, singing into
- 33:41Speaker 6: native languages now more so into the Bengali buglass space.
- 33:46Speaker 5: You know, you know, yeah, it's interesting.
- 33:49Speaker 6: You know, you came up in a space entirely through
- 33:53Speaker 6: YouTube and social media, and you picked up this huge
- 33:56Speaker 6: following through it. You were an amazing represent of Bangladeshi
- 34:01Speaker 6: culture to the diaspora and all the bastions of the
- 34:04Speaker 6: areas that were in the space. And then you know,
- 34:07Speaker 6: as you see the space of how and you've been
- 34:10Speaker 6: around the world, of course, you've mentioned that you've you've
- 34:13Speaker 6: traveled in different places.
- 34:15Speaker 5: You seeing the growth of South Asian music out there.
- 34:19Speaker 6: But whenever you hear people talk about it, it mostly
- 34:23Speaker 6: goes to maybe a couple of other countries, like specifically
- 34:26Speaker 6: India or Pakistan, and people don't talk about the entire
- 34:30Speaker 6: movement that's happening, Yeah, on the entire east side of
- 34:34Speaker 6: our subcontinent.
- 34:36Speaker 5: And why is that? What is it that we need
- 34:39Speaker 5: to do to put that entire east side of our
- 34:42Speaker 5: culture on the map?
- 34:43Speaker 3: More So, I feel like with time, and especially in
- 34:51Speaker 3: recent times, a lot has changed, and you know, the
- 34:56Speaker 3: people are actually appreciating the sound and the Las Whige
- 35:00Speaker 3: itself actually way more than I mean, especially globally. I mean,
- 35:06Speaker 3: there there is acceptance, but I think what we need
- 35:10Speaker 3: to do right now to make it more out there
- 35:15Speaker 3: is I think collaborations, to be honest, you know, that's
- 35:20Speaker 3: I think there's lack of that actually because if you know,
- 35:27Speaker 3: we have amazing artists in Bangladesh and definitely there's way more.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I mean they're there are really good artists out there
- 35:36Speaker 3: in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and there. We also
- 35:41Speaker 3: have some similarities, like we all have some similarities, right,
- 35:47Speaker 3: and I think if we can make some really cool
- 35:52Speaker 3: collaborations between you know, some of us, this this, this,
- 35:59Speaker 3: I see a great, great thing happening and I think
- 36:03Speaker 3: we're going towards that and a lot of things has
- 36:05Speaker 3: happened already.
- 36:07Speaker 20: And.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Proudly I can say that when I converted singing in Bangala.
- 36:13Speaker 3: That's when I actually found the acceptance even from other countries. Actually,
- 36:20Speaker 3: there were a lot of great artists actually who approached
- 36:25Speaker 3: me or reached out to me, maybe because you know,
- 36:28Speaker 3: I actually took that step and maybe that sounds unique
- 36:34Speaker 3: to them. Maybe that's something they were kind of like, oh,
- 36:39Speaker 3: this sounds different. You know that that happened to them
- 36:43Speaker 3: and I have. I'm very hopeful, to be honest. And
- 36:47Speaker 3: since I'm from Amavish and I love creating Bengali songs,
- 36:52Speaker 3: I see something great happening.
- 36:55Speaker 5: I think, I think, I'm hopeful. Yeah, I am hopeful too.
- 36:59Speaker 6: It's going to take more and more artists coming from
- 37:01Speaker 6: the space creating their own identity, much like yourself. Like,
- 37:05Speaker 6: I wanted to talk about something that you've done and
- 37:08Speaker 6: add to this kind of link. You know you you
- 37:10Speaker 6: you started out of course singing in English, and then
- 37:12Speaker 6: you cross over into Golli space in the Banglass space,
- 37:15Speaker 6: and now here you are acting, and you specifically did
- 37:20Speaker 6: something very cool that a lot of singers really hope
- 37:24Speaker 6: they could do, which is sing their own song for
- 37:27Speaker 6: something that they're acting in for themselves, right, which is
- 37:31Speaker 6: really awesome. You put out a song called dor Kaya,
- 37:34Speaker 6: and you know, you have this track that you you
- 37:38Speaker 6: write yourself, you compose yourself, and then you're on screen,
- 37:43Speaker 6: you know, playing that character character, which is interesting.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, right, I honestly I think that's something you know,
- 37:55Speaker 3: I started as a musician, right, I appeared in music videos,
- 37:59Speaker 3: or I appear in my music videos. But this is
- 38:03Speaker 3: a completely different way when you're acting, when you're the
- 38:08Speaker 3: character and you're also your song is also in the background.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Ye you know, that whole combination was very like I
- 38:20Speaker 3: can only thank to all the members of the team
- 38:24Speaker 3: that made this happen. And I don't think it's only me.
- 38:27Speaker 3: I think it's the whole team. We all came up
- 38:30Speaker 3: with the project it and it actually touched a lot
- 38:35Speaker 3: of people, not only musically, it touched with the story
- 38:40Speaker 3: as well. Right, So I think that is such a
- 38:44Speaker 3: beautiful marriage in a way, like the way it happened.
- 38:50Speaker 3: So I'm very glad it happened that way. And the
- 38:54Speaker 3: song actually, that song is doing really good in bandadesh,
- 39:00Speaker 3: I mean really, and yes, it's like the Reals and
- 39:07Speaker 3: TikTok and like it's a very romantic, melancholic song. And
- 39:12Speaker 3: and I actually made it for for this film. You know,
- 39:17Speaker 3: I composed it thinking of all the all the feelings
- 39:20Speaker 3: I went through as a character.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Wow.
- 39:25Speaker 3: So that was a different way, right, Like usually maybe
- 39:30Speaker 3: I wrote songs for films where it was played by
- 39:34Speaker 3: other people, but in this one, it was all my
- 39:39Speaker 3: emotions in the in the in the song, I played
- 39:43Speaker 3: the character I acted, and I also acted or put
- 39:50Speaker 3: my emotion in that song. So this combination was something
- 39:54Speaker 3: very different and I and I loved the experience and
- 39:57Speaker 3: also the way people loved the song and the content
- 40:01Speaker 3: is crazy. Honestly, I'm so so grateful.
- 40:04Speaker 5: It's so cool.
- 40:05Speaker 6: A big shout out to Shihab Shaheen, the director of
- 40:08Speaker 6: the film Domi Ami Shudhu is that the pronunciation there awesome.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Yes, that's the content, that's the film. And he's a
- 40:18Speaker 3: renowned director in Bangladesh. He has done amazing films and
- 40:25Speaker 3: he actually also trusted me. You know, I am glad
- 40:30Speaker 3: that he trusted me and the co actor. Interestingly, even
- 40:35Speaker 3: the co actor in this film with me, he is
- 40:39Speaker 3: Tom Hassan. He is also a big musician in Banladesh
- 40:43Speaker 3: by the way, so we're both musicians.
- 40:45Speaker 5: That's so cool.
- 40:47Speaker 3: In the film, Yeah, yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 6: I have one last question for you here before we
- 40:51Speaker 6: let you go. I wanted to thank you for hanging
- 40:53Speaker 6: out with us today on this show. What a great
- 40:55Speaker 6: time we've had with you so far. My last question
- 40:59Speaker 6: for you is, you know, I hear you talking about
- 41:03Speaker 6: the marriage of film and music here and you know
- 41:06Speaker 6: you just mentioned you have two music stars leading this
- 41:10Speaker 6: film as actors, and to me, that's really interesting. We
- 41:14Speaker 6: see it very commonly in different areas of the South
- 41:18Speaker 6: Asian entertainment industry, specifically in the Punjabi industry and places
- 41:22Speaker 6: like that, where the musicians then kind of graduate, if
- 41:25Speaker 6: you will, to another level of making films.
- 41:27Speaker 5: Is this an area that interests you going forward?
- 41:31Speaker 3: Absolutely? Even actually after this film specifically, I have to
- 41:37Speaker 3: mention because the reaction I've seen, you know, the comments
- 41:41Speaker 3: and messages I get even now even today, it really
- 41:46Speaker 3: motivated me. And they loved my acting, which was really
- 41:51Speaker 3: surprising for me because that's not what I do. But
- 41:55Speaker 3: that gave me, gave me that hope or what do
- 42:00Speaker 3: I call it, like the inspiration that maybe maybe the courage, yeah,
- 42:05Speaker 3: the courage that maybe this is also something I I
- 42:10Speaker 3: should explore and see where it goes. Because I I
- 42:15Speaker 3: definitely loved acting when I did this film with and
- 42:20Speaker 3: of course I have to say that director was phenomenal.
- 42:24Speaker 3: He knows what he does right here, what he what's
- 42:27Speaker 3: what like his experience and the way he guided us.
- 42:31Speaker 3: So definitely that's there. But also I loved doing it.
- 42:35Speaker 3: So maybe in the future, yeah, I would love to.
- 42:40Speaker 3: I would love to write my songs as well.
- 42:45Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right, that's what I was going to say, Zephyr,
- 42:47Speaker 6: and you get a chance to sneak in your music
- 42:50Speaker 6: like you just did here in a really cool way
- 42:52Speaker 6: and write for your own character, which is so awesome.
- 42:56Speaker 6: Thank you, Thank you well, thank you so much for
- 42:58Speaker 6: hanging out with us. I have one last request. We
- 43:02Speaker 6: wanted to play the song Jumka for everybody right here
- 43:05Speaker 6: on the bridge. If you don't mind me, please please
- 43:09Speaker 6: introduce this song for our audience.
- 43:12Speaker 3: All right, you will be listening to Junka. This track
- 43:18Speaker 3: is by me, Zephyr and Musa. He's also an amazing
- 43:22Speaker 3: artist from Banadesh. So yeah, enjoy Junka.
- 43:26Speaker 6: Thank you so much, Sephy, ladies and gentlemen. Here's the track.
- 43:31Speaker 25: Jo Do Me Mahaka Cano jube bechu be joy shout out, Hey, Hello,

- 46:29Speaker 6: quality of her voice. Really looking forward to see where
- 46:33Speaker 6: she goes with it. It was really interesting talking to
- 46:35Speaker 6: her today and wishing her all the best of luck.
- 46:38Speaker 5: In the future.
- 46:39Speaker 6: We'll be having her back, I'm sure on the show
- 46:41Speaker 6: here and I'll close this show with some closing remarks

- 54:04Speaker 6: of artist that I find most fulfilling to watch. It
- 54:08Speaker 6: isn't the overnight arrival. It's the organic one where a
- 54:11Speaker 6: voice grows level to level with no machine behind it,
- 54:15Speaker 6: and the work does all the talking. Zephyr sat with
- 54:18Speaker 6: me today and she is that story start to finish.
- 54:23Speaker 6: It starts in a bedroom in Bangladesh, a girl with
- 54:26Speaker 6: no formal training, singing English covers into her mother's digital camera.
- 54:31Speaker 6: Think about how many gatekeepers said no by simply not
- 54:34Speaker 6: existing for her. No label, no studio, no industry infrastructure
- 54:39Speaker 6: waiting for a young Bangladeshi woman with an R and
- 54:42Speaker 6: B voice. She built the road as she walked it.
- 54:47Speaker 6: Covers became originals. Originals became an album in English, while
- 54:52Speaker 6: everyone around her asked why. And then she made the
- 54:56Speaker 6: move I respect the most. She turned to Bungla, not
- 55:00Speaker 6: because the critics demanded it, but on her own timing
- 55:03Speaker 6: asked herself one question, what am I afraid of? The
- 55:06Speaker 6: answer became a song with over one hundred and fifty
- 55:08Speaker 6: million views. The fear became the doorway. And today she
- 55:13Speaker 6: told me the sentence that sums up her whole philosophy.
- 55:16Speaker 6: I will do things that might fail me. That's not bravado,
- 55:20Speaker 6: that's the working creed of an artist who understands that
- 55:23Speaker 6: the box is the only real enemy. And every time
- 55:26Speaker 6: the industry decided what kind of artists she was, she
- 55:30Speaker 6: did the thing nobody pictured and it worked. Here's what
- 55:34Speaker 6: I want you to hear in that Bangla Dish, one
- 55:37Speaker 6: hundred and seventy million people, one of the richest musical
- 55:40Speaker 6: traditions on Earth, barely gets a seat when the world
- 55:43Speaker 6: talks about South Asian music going global. Zephyr's part of
- 55:47Speaker 6: the generation changing that the Bengali Bungalow corridor of our
- 55:51Speaker 6: culture is rising, and she's at the front of it now,
- 55:55Speaker 6: carrying it onto the screen too, acting, composing for her
- 55:59Speaker 6: own characters, the voice and the face telling one story.
- 56:03Speaker 6: That voice speaks before any word comes forward. It just
- 56:07Speaker 6: needed sunlight, and she built the sunlight herself. Go find
- 56:12Speaker 6: her music today and keep the name close. I'll see
- 56:15Speaker 6: you guys tomorrow, and I'll leave you with this badsha
- 56:19Speaker 6: song called Velvet Flow.
- 56:20Speaker 5: Have a great day, everybody, see tomorrow.
