- 2:48Speaker 1: me ask you guys. How are you guys? Okay, okay,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm feeling that me. I'm good. Chalcing is cool. I'm
- 2:59Speaker 1: just thankful for that. And I think right now is
- 3:01Speaker 1: like seventy nine maybe eighty degrees. Oh, lord y'all know me.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm fluffy. I can't take heap. Okay, So tonight I
- 3:11Speaker 1: have a new author and a new book. Mothers of sons,
- 3:16Speaker 1: reise your hand. My big man is twenty three. The
- 3:22Speaker 1: lord y'all just don't know the smells, the attitude, the
- 3:30Speaker 1: I don't know if every son has done this, but
- 3:33Speaker 1: at least every boy in my family has done that.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Buck up somewhere between fourteen and sixteen, and yeah, the
- 3:42Speaker 1: who you playing with? Yeah, you gotta get over that hump.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And appearents of daughters were gonna be all right because
- 3:55Speaker 1: these girls are told different things. But tonight we focusing
- 3:58Speaker 1: on our boys. Okay. I have an author who has
- 4:01Speaker 1: a whole blog, a podcast. She's an author, she's a speaker,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and she's the mother of two sons. So she's here
- 4:09Speaker 1: with us tonight to give us information about reason these
- 4:13Speaker 1: boys come on off the Beverly Taylor wells. How are you.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm good, I'm good, I'm good. Thank you so much
- 4:23Speaker 1: for having me. Where were you twenty three years ago
- 4:28Speaker 1: when I was with this boy here girl expecting my
- 4:34Speaker 1: twenty year old Oh my god. Like I still remember
- 4:43Speaker 1: when I first held my son and I'm looking, I
- 4:45Speaker 1: don't know nothing but no boy. Because my mom just
- 4:47Speaker 1: had all girls. So for me to have the first boy,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I mean, I had my sisters, and I think my
- 4:55Speaker 1: sister's like fifteen sixteen. There was something to calling mysel
- 5:00Speaker 1: son papa, like you. He the youngest yo, and to
- 5:06Speaker 1: this day he's twenty three and they still calling him papa.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But first, tell us a little bit about yourself. Okay,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I reside here in Ohio, close to Cleveland. I ain't
- 5:23Speaker 1: gonna say go Browns because we that's a whole nother podcast.
- 5:30Speaker 1: But I've resided here in Ohio all my life. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: have two sons. The oldest is I said forty, but
- 5:41Speaker 1: he's forty one. I keep forgetting that young man had
- 5:44Speaker 1: a birthday in April. He's forty one, and my youngest
- 5:49Speaker 1: is twenty. So I have raised boys in two different
- 5:54Speaker 1: seasons of my life, and it was just as you
- 5:59Speaker 1: like with you. It was a lot of girls in
- 6:02Speaker 1: our family, you know, not a lot of boys, but
- 6:06Speaker 1: a lot of girls. I do have granddaughters. I have grandchildren,
- 6:11Speaker 1: two granddaughters, and a grandson. He's Brandon Junior aka Jumie.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He just turned four and I retired. I was in
- 6:25Speaker 1: education for thirty two years. And when my youngest graduated
- 6:30Speaker 1: high school, when he came out, I came out right
- 6:33Speaker 1: behind him. So he's kind of what I had been
- 6:38Speaker 1: waiting on to step away from education was him to
- 6:42Speaker 1: graduate and I got to hand him his diploma on
- 6:45Speaker 1: the field. That was one of the perks of being
- 6:48Speaker 1: a staff. So I definitely was waiting on that honor,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and I don't know what can I say, Mom's sons
- 6:59Speaker 1: is is definitely an assignment from the Lord. I never
- 7:06Speaker 1: saw a coming. I had a blog that, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I just would write about single mom stuff, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: like five years ago, because most of my life I've
- 7:19Speaker 1: been married to both of my son's fathers, and we
- 7:22Speaker 1: ended up, you know, parting ways and going through a
- 7:25Speaker 1: divorce and I ended up being a single mom. So
- 7:29Speaker 1: eighty percent of the time I raised my boys by myself.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But God has a sense of humor because he knows
- 7:36Speaker 1: I can only handle one child at a time.
- 7:40Speaker 5: There was forty years difference, yes, listen, yeah, yeah, So
- 7:55Speaker 5: it's been an honor raising them.
- 7:57Speaker 1: When you were saying about the buck up thing, I
- 8:02Speaker 1: tell you Brandon and Jaden are Brandon's the oldest and
- 8:05Speaker 1: Jaden is the youngest. They're just so different. Jaden is
- 8:09Speaker 1: majoring in cybersecurity and forensics. He's a full time student
- 8:14Speaker 1: out in West Virginia. He'll be graduating with his bachelor's
- 8:18Speaker 1: in December at the age of twenty. Because he went
- 8:22Speaker 1: through early college in high school and graduated with his associates,
- 8:27Speaker 1: so he is one of those brainiac type kids. So
- 8:31Speaker 1: he's kind of real quiet, real late back, and he's
- 8:35Speaker 1: an observer so he doesn't seen stuff that his older
- 8:38Speaker 1: brother has done. And he's that type of child that
- 8:42Speaker 1: like now, Dad, look at him over there getting in
- 8:46Speaker 1: trouble with my nah, and Brandon is more like me.
- 8:51Speaker 1: He was gonna try me now, he'd have tried me son,
- 8:56Speaker 1: So I had to show him a couple of times,
- 9:00Speaker 1: just because I was the mom and shorter than him.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I meant what I said when I told him, So
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm sure you all know what that means. Oh my god,
- 9:13Speaker 1: it sounds so much like what I've been through. My
- 9:20Speaker 1: kids are two different ballgames. So my son went to
- 9:26Speaker 1: early college here in so wonderful and he graduated with
- 9:31Speaker 1: the associates and he graduated during COVID. Mm hmm. So
- 9:38Speaker 1: that was a big, big thing for us. It was
- 9:41Speaker 1: that was rough. That was rough. It was because the
- 9:46Speaker 1: whole graduation looked so different that year. We were really
- 9:51Speaker 1: struggling at our high school with the graduation ceremony that year.
- 9:58Speaker 1: My head I had off to you, I know that
- 10:00Speaker 1: was rough we were, and he he did. They didn't
- 10:03Speaker 1: really have a real prom or anything. So he's my
- 10:07Speaker 1: gentle giant. He did buck up one time, but he
- 10:11Speaker 1: learned his lessons. I can't get in trouble him, so
- 10:19Speaker 1: he's my gentle giant. But that eleven year old girl Jesus,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I asked the Lord, what did I do in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: past lifetime? And because that one? And then, but I
- 10:37Speaker 1: have to say raising a son, and I too was
- 10:41Speaker 1: with his father. We got married and we divorced, but
- 10:45Speaker 1: we were both still committed to being parents. And I
- 10:49Speaker 1: have to admit raising the son then m was way
- 11:00Speaker 1: more easier than raising the sun. Now. But just because
- 11:05Speaker 1: he's in his twenties, he has the fear of what
- 11:10Speaker 1: younger kids his age are going through now. And my
- 11:15Speaker 1: son came back to Christ, Thank you God. It is beautiful.
- 11:20Speaker 1: But now it's that lack of community for a black male.
- 11:29Speaker 1: So your books, and I noticed that one of your
- 11:32Speaker 1: blogs was about helping your child to understand the purpose
- 11:37Speaker 1: in calling that God is calling to that life. Yes,
- 11:41Speaker 1: how help me? Because he comes in my room and
- 11:45Speaker 1: he's I know that door knock. I'm like, all right, well,
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know, I feel bad and I'm very remiss, Like
- 11:54Speaker 1: this is the series right here, but there is a
- 12:00Speaker 1: and alone devotional for the adult son eighteen and up.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And I definitely could not write that, especially since you
- 12:11Speaker 1: know Jaden was nineteen at the time, moving towards twenty,
- 12:15Speaker 1: and Brandon was already grown. So I didn't send that
- 12:20Speaker 1: to you. I will send that link to you when
- 12:23Speaker 1: we're done. But there's actually four devotionals. The one that
- 12:29Speaker 1: you see that is the early years. That is for
- 12:32Speaker 1: the moms that are raising baby boys in the womb
- 12:36Speaker 1: to age six. Because God very clearly said to me
- 12:42Speaker 1: months ago when he was shaping mom of sons. His
- 12:46Speaker 1: core message is it is never too early for a
- 12:50Speaker 1: mother to introduce her son to my son. That's the key.
- 12:56Speaker 1: That's the key. So that meant in the warm, we're
- 13:00Speaker 1: praying over these baby boys, we're speaking affirmations over these
- 13:06Speaker 1: baby boys. We're singing those lullabies to those baby boys.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And when they arrive, how we love on them and
- 13:15Speaker 1: we hug them and we talk to them and those
- 13:18Speaker 1: mommy voices and just give them all those snuggles and
- 13:23Speaker 1: loves and we tell them how Jesus loves them. That
- 13:27Speaker 1: is planting seeds of faith in that little baby boy.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And we are the first representation of God's love to
- 13:37Speaker 1: these baby boys. Then the next devotional that God, and
- 13:44Speaker 1: these all published right within weeks of each other. I'm
- 13:49Speaker 1: telling you, during Christmas break, I saw many of five ams.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That's all I'm gonna say. So then the second devotional,
- 14:01Speaker 1: the Growing Years, is for the moms with baby boys
- 14:06Speaker 1: seven to eleven. This is also the training ground because
- 14:11Speaker 1: this is where his character is starting to be formed.
- 14:16Speaker 1: This is where repetition really matters. We're starting to establish
- 14:22Speaker 1: how to pray, what it looks like every day to
- 14:26Speaker 1: talk to God. So this is the training ground, and
- 14:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna back up. The Early Years is also the
- 14:34Speaker 1: planting season. That's what that book represents. So then we're
- 14:40Speaker 1: gonna move to these teen years mom of sons. With
- 14:43Speaker 1: the teens we had already talked about kind of like
- 14:47Speaker 1: they're the young men, but them teen years. That's foundation
- 14:55Speaker 1: focused and that is where you are strengthening faith. If
- 15:00Speaker 1: you look at the bottom of each devotional, the first
- 15:03Speaker 1: devotional is a Heart Planet in Faith. We're planting. The
- 15:09Speaker 1: second devotional is Walking in Faith. We're training. We're teaching
- 15:14Speaker 1: our boys how to start having a relationship with God
- 15:17Speaker 1: and walk in faith. And the third devotional is Strengthening
- 15:22Speaker 1: his faith, which is foundation focused. This is where you're
- 15:26Speaker 1: really working on that character and integrity and really encouraging
- 15:33Speaker 1: him about his relationship, his walk with God, his identity.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So all of that comes in to the teen years
- 15:41Speaker 1: and I wish I had I mean, I have one,
- 15:47Speaker 1: but I don't know if your readers can see it,
- 15:51Speaker 1: but this is where you got it. It came through,
- 15:56Speaker 1: but then it faded out. Put your hand back over
- 16:01Speaker 1: there you go, right, all right, there we go, there
- 16:03Speaker 1: we go. Okay, this is the fourth devotional that I
- 16:06Speaker 1: was telling you about. For the adult son. This is
- 16:10Speaker 1: called the adult years. This is living out faith. This
- 16:16Speaker 1: is the harvest season for moms because this is where
- 16:21Speaker 1: our our position transitions from the everyday teacher instructor to
- 16:29Speaker 1: mentorship because they have This is for the eighteen and
- 16:34Speaker 1: up sons, So you know, we we transition when they
- 16:39Speaker 1: become young adult men and we start more mentoring and
- 16:44Speaker 1: more praying and just kind of being a sounding board.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Now we never stop being mom because if they're doing
- 16:52Speaker 1: something wrong, like any other mom, I'm gonna tell you
- 16:56Speaker 1: about yourself. Definitely not going to not speak and say son,
- 17:02Speaker 1: that is not the way to go. But when he
- 17:06Speaker 1: steps into that adulthood, that manhood. You know, we have
- 17:11Speaker 1: to respect that. So our our position kind of shifts
- 17:15Speaker 1: a little bit more to mentor mentoring and praying and
- 17:20Speaker 1: prayer covering and praying over the path that he's walking
- 17:25Speaker 1: and the choices that he's making as an adult young man.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So there's those are the four devotionals. The blog is
- 17:37Speaker 1: a weekly thing right now. There's almost one hundred articles
- 17:43Speaker 1: on the blog, from praying over your son, walking and wisdom.
- 17:51Speaker 1: There's a story on their a post about Jaden where
- 17:57Speaker 1: I went through a very scary medical situation with him
- 18:01Speaker 1: three years ago and he ended up in ic you.
- 18:04Speaker 1: So it's a mother's faith praying through the storm when
- 18:12Speaker 1: Brandon went through a very crucial time in his life
- 18:15Speaker 1: where the choices he made could have changed the whole
- 18:19Speaker 1: direction of his life. The article that you were just
- 18:24Speaker 1: there's just so many articles on there. There is you guys.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I mean, I was just just scrolling. It's like, oh
- 18:31Speaker 1: I see this, Oh I see this. I'll see that.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But let me ask you a question. What means you
- 18:36Speaker 1: want to write this book? Like what said this needs
- 18:43Speaker 1: to help my sisters out? What means you want to
- 18:45Speaker 1: write this book? You know. It's all I can tell
- 18:51Speaker 1: you is my blog had sat silent for like, I
- 18:55Speaker 1: don't know, probably three years, and because I am a
- 18:59Speaker 1: woman of faith, and you know, I've always prayed over
- 19:06Speaker 1: my sons. We both of them are very active in
- 19:10Speaker 1: our church. My oldest teaches our teens and he just
- 19:14Speaker 1: got ordained as a minister. Jaden and I both help
- 19:21Speaker 1: with our outreach ministry at church, so when he's home
- 19:24Speaker 1: from school, we do things for the community at the
- 19:28Speaker 1: holidays and during the summer, so he helps out with that.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And he grew up singing in the youth choir and
- 19:36Speaker 1: you know, all of that type of contributing, contributing to
- 19:41Speaker 1: the house of the Lord. But the Lord spoke to me,
- 19:46Speaker 1: it's been this month is actually a year that mom
- 19:50Speaker 1: of sons was birth very clearly. In June last year,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I had started an article in my blog about faith
- 20:01Speaker 1: with Jaden. It was such a scary time. Jaden had
- 20:08Speaker 1: some kind of weird bacterial infection that somehow he got
- 20:14Speaker 1: fluid in the back of his neck, and they didn't
- 20:18Speaker 1: want to come out and say that it was some
- 20:21Speaker 1: kind of complication from COVID because he had had COVID.
- 20:26Speaker 1: The month before, and he didn't have a heavy case
- 20:30Speaker 1: of it. He did the five days, you know, and
- 20:35Speaker 1: what is it when you're locked down? And then he
- 20:38Speaker 1: was right and then he was able to go back
- 20:41Speaker 1: to school just fine. But somehow that next month in March,
- 20:46Speaker 1: he developed this. And I won't, you know, go into
- 20:51Speaker 1: all the details, but honest to God, it was nothing
- 20:54Speaker 1: but the Lord that intervened and we ended up his
- 21:00Speaker 1: pediatrician was very thorough and she caught this because I
- 21:05Speaker 1: had taken him to the er and they just kept
- 21:08Speaker 1: saying it was a viral infection that had to run
- 21:11Speaker 1: its course, and he was very, very sick. Well after
- 21:16Speaker 1: she got the MRI back and saw the fluid in
- 21:19Speaker 1: the back of his neck and she's like, bev, no,
- 21:21Speaker 1: it's not meningitis or anything. I'm not sure what this is,
- 21:25Speaker 1: but I want you to take him to Cleveland's Rainbow
- 21:29Speaker 1: hospital er. So that's how serious it was. I had
- 21:35Speaker 1: to call his dad, who had just arrived at work,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and he knew that we were waiting for these results.
- 21:42Speaker 1: And as soon as I told him, he was like,
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'll be right there, and he came and swooped us up.
- 21:48Speaker 1: And that was the longest thirty five minute ride the
- 21:51Speaker 1: Cleveland I have ever had in my life. Jaden was
- 21:54Speaker 1: steady running a temperature between one hundred and three and
- 21:58Speaker 1: trying to go above of just he was very, very sick. Well,
- 22:03Speaker 1: once we got there, they discovered this bacterial infection. They
- 22:08Speaker 1: you know, ran more tests. But when they said and
- 22:11Speaker 1: the doctor, his doctor told me because she's been with
- 22:14Speaker 1: Jaden all his life and she knows me, so she's like, bev,
- 22:19Speaker 1: they might keep him overnight, So don't get up set.
- 22:25Speaker 1: He might need to stay overnight. So you know, I'm
- 22:29Speaker 1: kind of I'm calm, you know, I'm like, okay, we
- 22:32Speaker 1: get there. Long story short, they said they were keeping him.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I'm thinking, oh, okay, they're going to keep him to
- 22:38Speaker 1: you know, get this, get the antibiotic, biotic and him
- 22:41Speaker 1: and girl. When they let us out, they did not
- 22:44Speaker 1: tell us they was taking him to ICU. We got
- 22:48Speaker 1: off the elevator. On the ICU floor, I'm looking at
- 22:52Speaker 1: his dad and I'm like I asked the nurse walking
- 22:55Speaker 1: in front of me. I'm like, are we in the
- 22:58Speaker 1: ICU unit? And she's like, yeah, didn't they tell you
- 23:03Speaker 1: that's where your son was coming to. I'm like, no,
- 23:07Speaker 1: He ended up in that hospital for seven days. Four
- 23:11Speaker 1: of them were icee you, and at first they weren't
- 23:15Speaker 1: even sure what to give him because they didn't even
- 23:20Speaker 1: know what kind of bacterial infection they were fighting, and
- 23:24Speaker 1: they just they attacked it like I couldn't even I
- 23:28Speaker 1: couldn't even tell you. In his iv they were on
- 23:32Speaker 1: him every four hours, like clockwork, every four hours, every
- 23:37Speaker 1: two hours, they were in there checking his vitals.
- 23:41Speaker 5: It was the.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Scariest time, one of the scariest times of my life.
- 23:46Speaker 1: So I had started this story, and I had set out,
- 23:50Speaker 1: you know, I was writing it to encourage other mothers
- 23:53Speaker 1: because God before that had been preparing me. I had
- 23:57Speaker 1: been spending time with the Lord. I never considered myself
- 24:01Speaker 1: a mourning person, but I had told God about six
- 24:05Speaker 1: months before this happened, Lord, I need some different things
- 24:09Speaker 1: in my life. I need some things to change. And
- 24:12Speaker 1: so He clearly said to me, Okay, if you want
- 24:15Speaker 1: something different, you're gonna have to do different. I want
- 24:18Speaker 1: the first minutes of your mourning every day. Oh my gosh,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I already had to be at the office at seven,
- 24:25Speaker 1: so already was getting up at like five in the morning.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So what I'm telling you, I started getting up at
- 24:34Speaker 1: five and I would come in here to my office.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I would get my word out and my devotional and
- 24:41Speaker 1: I would spend the first thirty minutes with the Lord
- 24:44Speaker 1: every day. And I'm telling you what I realized later.
- 24:49Speaker 1: He was working my faith muscle, is what he was doing.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Because if I hadn't been spending that time with the
- 24:57Speaker 1: Lord and he hadn't been strengthening my faith muscle, I'd
- 25:03Speaker 1: have lost it. With my kid up there in ICU,
- 25:08Speaker 1: he had all kinds of tubes and everything running everywhere,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and the first twenty four hours they didn't even know
- 25:18Speaker 1: what to give him, so they were giving him they
- 25:22Speaker 1: were trying different types of antibiotics. I would have never
- 25:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't have I wouldn't have been able to handle it.
- 25:30Speaker 1: But I'm telling you I handled it. I kept trusting God.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I did not break down. I did not break down.
- 25:40Speaker 1: The first time I broke down was after the third
- 25:46Speaker 1: night we had been there, and I was up. It
- 25:49Speaker 1: was like two o'clock in the morning and I had
- 25:51Speaker 1: went to like get me some coffee or something. And
- 25:54Speaker 1: the first night, Jaden's dad was in one recliner on
- 25:57Speaker 1: one side, and I was in the other one on
- 25:59Speaker 1: the other side. So we was like nobody was moving
- 26:03Speaker 1: out of that hospital. And when I went to get coffee,
- 26:07Speaker 1: there was this real nice nurse on duty and I
- 26:11Speaker 1: don't know, I just I lost it. Then I started
- 26:15Speaker 1: crying and she saw me and she was like, miss Wells,
- 26:22Speaker 1: it's working. She said, Jayden's showing improvement. And I was like, really,
- 26:28Speaker 1: that's the first time I had heard that. So I'd
- 26:31Speaker 1: say this was like the second night going into the
- 26:34Speaker 1: third day, and she said, yes, she said, the antibiotics
- 26:39Speaker 1: that they are giving him, she said, it's fighting the infection.
- 26:44Speaker 1: And she just hugged me and, you know, just encouraged me.
- 26:49Speaker 1: And that was the only time that I broke down,
- 26:52Speaker 1: because my days consisted of getting up early, going to
- 26:57Speaker 1: the parents' quarters shop, you know, showering gras and a
- 27:00Speaker 1: cup of coffee and helping, you know, with Jaden, you know,
- 27:04Speaker 1: during the day because they started giving him breathing treatments
- 27:08Speaker 1: and it was real involved. But on the fourth day
- 27:14Speaker 1: they were saying they've seen it turning. It was he
- 27:17Speaker 1: it was turning. You have a serious testimony. You would
- 27:22Speaker 1: both of your sons, with your the mama sonse devotional series.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question. Yes, if you can
- 27:31Speaker 1: give a mother, a single mother, a married mother, just
- 27:38Speaker 1: a mother of a son in general, if you can
- 27:41Speaker 1: give them one piece of advice, what would you say
- 27:48Speaker 1: to that mother? What I would say to that mom
- 27:52Speaker 1: is always always take your son to the throne of God.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And remember that you're not just raising a son. You
- 28:05Speaker 1: are raising somebody's future husband, future father, spiritual covering and
- 28:12Speaker 1: safe place. And God wants kingdom men again, he wants
- 28:20Speaker 1: kingdom men. So I would tell her he belongs to
- 28:25Speaker 1: God first, and God loves him as much as we
- 28:30Speaker 1: love them, God loves them even more. So cover him
- 28:36Speaker 1: every day in prayer and ask God to guide his steps.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Don't feel that you can't do this because God chose
- 28:48Speaker 1: you specifically to be that young man's mother. There's no
- 28:55Speaker 1: coincidence with God, and that's something we have to remember.
- 28:59Speaker 1: There's no incidents. God is the greatest chess player ever.
- 29:04Speaker 1: His moves are unmatched. So everything that He does when
- 29:09Speaker 1: He gives you that son, he gives you that daughter.
- 29:13Speaker 1: He chose you specifically for that child. Well, me and
- 29:17Speaker 1: God gonna have to talk to see what the son
- 29:19Speaker 1: he was playing chess with we've been playing, girl, go
- 29:28Speaker 1: give up. Trust me. He got great, great plans for her.
- 29:32Speaker 1: And and he's refining your patience because I got a
- 29:37Speaker 1: wild call and be like looking in this, Oh my God,
- 29:45Speaker 1: But I'm telling you seriously, we you know, we think
- 29:48Speaker 1: about it. But honestly, God, when he gives us those children,
- 29:53Speaker 1: he specifically chose us because he knew we could handle it.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Even though we might feel like tearing our hair, He
- 30:03Speaker 1: still knew. He knew that we were still gonna love them,
- 30:07Speaker 1: that we still gonna show up for them, that were
- 30:10Speaker 1: still gonna pray for them, and that we're still gonna
- 30:13Speaker 1: cover them. Yes, yes, yes, Father. But when I get him,
- 30:23Speaker 1: I have a nice seat because this little girl, me
- 30:26Speaker 1: and Jesus gonna have to have a long conversation, you know.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I you know, people ask me about, you know, daughters,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and I'm like, man, I said, I don't have a
- 30:41Speaker 1: lot of experience with daughters. I said, because God gave
- 30:45Speaker 1: me sons. I said, Now I got the granddaughters that
- 30:50Speaker 1: I'm I'm learning, you know, learning. But one thing I
- 30:55Speaker 1: do know about God is he is able and he
- 30:59Speaker 1: definitely gives the grace. Lord Crase, Now if you want
- 31:09Speaker 1: further research and you can come out with a bomb
- 31:16Speaker 1: of daughter series okay, years old that I can ship
- 31:19Speaker 1: to you. I mean, okay, yeah, center on that here.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I'm telling you my granddaughters would love it. Okay, we
- 31:29Speaker 1: will exchange addresses. Now, we might send a ups overnight. Okay,
- 31:40Speaker 1: y'all know me. I'm a clown. I love my baby girl,
- 31:44Speaker 1: but she keeps me on my toes. And that's what
- 31:46Speaker 1: I think God does. He gave her to be like,
- 31:49Speaker 1: oh no, no, no, I got something for you to do.
- 31:51Speaker 1: And those leaning back chilling, now, get back on your toes.
- 31:55Speaker 1: That's what I did. He gave me her to put
- 31:57Speaker 1: me on my toes. I think, really, I'm serious. I
- 32:01Speaker 1: really think God has a sense of humor. I really do.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I tell everybody that I'm serious. I think he really does.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I really think that he has to have a serious
- 32:14Speaker 1: sense of human I think God and Jesus be sitting
- 32:17Speaker 1: up here. Look at this one. Here, He's right in
- 32:19Speaker 1: front of him. We can't come on, daddy, I can't
- 32:24Speaker 1: do all right. She just got to figure this out.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I really think that God and Jesus have the most
- 32:32Speaker 1: comical minds there is. Because some of the stuff I see.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, only God can come up with
- 32:41Speaker 1: something like this, because, girl, you should have saw my
- 32:45Speaker 1: family's face when I told him. When I got remarried
- 32:49Speaker 1: and I told my my mother that, oh, I'm going
- 32:52Speaker 1: to give my husband a baby, and Braden had been
- 32:55Speaker 1: the only grandchild for like nineteen years, it was I
- 33:01Speaker 1: was you better than me because what I did when
- 33:08Speaker 1: I found it I was pregnant. Literally, I told her
- 33:11Speaker 1: because adoptors, I was having bad headaches. So the doctors
- 33:15Speaker 1: took me into well the transporter. He said, but we're
- 33:18Speaker 1: gonna take you to do some type of tests. When
- 33:20Speaker 1: we talk about taking the tests and being pregnant, I'm
- 33:25Speaker 1: gonna give you this paperwork till we get this. He
- 33:27Speaker 1: said you. I said, answer, you need to check the
- 33:29Speaker 1: bands he checked. He's like, we're gonna take you back
- 33:33Speaker 1: in the room. I said, right there. I don't know
- 33:35Speaker 1: what he talked about. Come to find out, you go
- 33:38Speaker 1: to doctor talk. Uh, congratulations and who you playing with?
- 33:42Speaker 1: I said, We're about to do this again. For me
- 33:45Speaker 1: to tell my mama. I told everybody texts. No did
- 33:55Speaker 1: she text? Because I was at work. When I finally
- 33:58Speaker 1: got up the nerve to tell like I was at work,
- 34:00Speaker 1: because I knew she would have called me at work,
- 34:02Speaker 1: you know, or come by house while I'm at work,
- 34:05Speaker 1: text me. I know it ain't at for foods, This
- 34:09Speaker 1: surely ain't. But I'm the food that's out. Listen, I
- 34:15Speaker 1: understand that. And I thank God for being a mother. Yes,
- 34:21Speaker 1: if I hadn't had my son, o the things I
- 34:26Speaker 1: haven't done. Girl, I'm telling you, I honestly, God definitely
- 34:31Speaker 1: knows what he's doing. Because I was nineteen. I had
- 34:36Speaker 1: just got into college, our local community college and everything.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So Brandon and my our birthdays are right together minus
- 34:46Speaker 1: April twenty third. His is April twenty fourth, So I
- 34:50Speaker 1: had just turned twenty when he entered the world. And
- 34:55Speaker 1: I'm telling you, having those little pairs of eyes when
- 34:59Speaker 1: you no there's someone that is little, they're watching you.
- 35:05Speaker 1: They depend on you. That makes a difference in your
- 35:08Speaker 1: choices that you make.
- 35:10Speaker 3: And I was saying that kept me out of a
- 35:13Speaker 3: litt of stuff because I knew I had that little
- 35:17Speaker 3: baby boy looking at his mommy.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yes, and it's crazy because I'm the fifth, my son
- 35:27Speaker 1: is the fourth. That's how really right? Yes? When when God,
- 35:34Speaker 1: hey I'm gonna slow you down real quick, and I
- 35:36Speaker 1: want to say something, and I'm my something. Look at me.
- 35:41Speaker 1: M hmm, I can't see it. But then I'm like, hey,
- 35:44Speaker 1: big boy, oh mommy love you. Oh. Then I was like,
- 35:48Speaker 1: oh god, you know exactly what you were doing. Yes, yes,
- 35:54Speaker 1: I can relate. I relate one hundred I'm telling you.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Having it Brandon kept me out of a lot of situations.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Situation it literally stop me like me too, because you
- 36:11Speaker 1: start thinking I have somebody that I am responsible for,
- 36:17Speaker 1: somebody that is counting on me. You know, it makes
- 36:22Speaker 1: you accountable, It does, it does. Yes. So I didn't
- 36:30Speaker 1: tell you about our fun segment, but if you looked
- 36:34Speaker 1: at any of my shows, I have this fun segment. Well,
- 36:36Speaker 1: I asked you questions and we use music or movies
- 36:45Speaker 1: or TV which are very relatable when it comes to
- 36:49Speaker 1: people trying to choose books. Okay, okay, so my fa
- 36:55Speaker 1: also I can see go ahead. My favorite channel is Lifetime.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I love that they do a lot of movies about
- 37:07Speaker 1: individuals and what they've been through and stuff like that.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Like yesterday, when I was working on some work, I
- 37:14Speaker 1: was looking at the Clark Sisters movie. I really do
- 37:19Speaker 1: is it good? It's good, Okay, I have to check that.
- 37:23Speaker 1: It was like I did not even know half of
- 37:27Speaker 1: the things, and I did go back and dif my research,
- 37:29Speaker 1: and the Clark sisters did put a lot of input
- 37:31Speaker 1: into this movie. So I like lifetime for stuff like that.
- 37:35Speaker 1: So it is time for you, my friend, to be
- 37:39Speaker 1: in the hots. Lifetime is on the line. And they say,
- 37:47Speaker 1: you know what, we love the fact that you wrote
- 37:50Speaker 1: this book about being a mother to two smart, beautiful,
- 37:55Speaker 1: brilliant sons, and we would like to make it into
- 37:57Speaker 1: a movie. All right, cool, find dandy, But we need
- 38:02Speaker 1: to find somebody who's going to play your oldest son.
- 38:06Speaker 1: But that person has to be a TV actor. Who
- 38:16Speaker 1: would you choose to be? And I think you said
- 38:19Speaker 1: not Jaden Jady's your younger son, correct? Brandon? Okay? And
- 38:24Speaker 1: how and what's the name of your oldest son? Is?
- 38:28Speaker 1: How old is he? No? Your name of your oldest
- 38:31Speaker 1: son Brandon? Brandon? Who would play Brandon? Any act? TV actor? Lawrence?
- 38:40Speaker 1: What's the name Lawrence Tate? Lawrence Tate, Laurence him? Okay? Okay,
- 38:49Speaker 1: I hear that, man, So why did you choose Lawrence Tate?
- 38:54Speaker 1: I chose him? Because I love a lot of his books.
- 38:58Speaker 1: He writes a lot of books for young black men
- 39:03Speaker 1: and the things that they deal with. So I like
- 39:06Speaker 1: how his mind works and how he in his private life,
- 39:11Speaker 1: in his personal life, how he walks as a black man.
- 39:17Speaker 1: All Right, we got Laurn's Teeth for your oldest son,
- 39:21Speaker 1: your youngest son. His name is Jaden. Who would play Jaden?
- 39:27Speaker 1: But it has to be a gospel artist, gospel male artist.
- 39:40Speaker 1: This is gonna be this is gonna be funny. But
- 39:44Speaker 1: Brandon Lake would play Jaden. Oh and why did you
- 39:49Speaker 1: choose Brandon Lake? Brandon Lake? I was at his concert
- 39:54Speaker 1: a few months ago, he came to Cleveland and just
- 39:59Speaker 1: listening to him talk about his walk with the Lord
- 40:05Speaker 1: and just the wisdom. Jaden is a quiet he doesn't
- 40:11Speaker 1: do a lot of talking, but when he opens his
- 40:14Speaker 1: mouth and says things, you're shocked at what he's been
- 40:18Speaker 1: paying attention to and what he's absorbed. And I got
- 40:22Speaker 1: that same feel from Brandon Lake when he was talking
- 40:26Speaker 1: about his life and his family and how you know,
- 40:30Speaker 1: the things that God has taken him through. Wow. Okay, okay, okay.
- 40:37Speaker 1: So now we have to find somebody who's going to
- 40:41Speaker 1: play you, uh huh, because we can't leave the mom
- 40:45Speaker 1: out out of it. So who would play you do?
- 40:54Speaker 1: They have to be a gospel person. Actually for you,
- 40:59Speaker 1: I'll let you chever you want to choose. Oh, I
- 41:09Speaker 1: would like I would like Felicia Rasha to pay play me.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Oh hold shoes. Yes. But see, I loved her her
- 41:23Speaker 1: character on the Huxtables. What the type of mother that
- 41:28Speaker 1: she was, and you could tell that she mothered with
- 41:33Speaker 1: wisdom and love. And I feel that for me she
- 41:42Speaker 1: would be good because I admired a lot of the
- 41:46Speaker 1: episodes that I saw how she loved on each one
- 41:50Speaker 1: of her kids and they were all different with of
- 41:53Speaker 1: course different personalities, but she knew her children and so
- 41:57Speaker 1: she knew how to respond and how to love on
- 42:02Speaker 1: each and everyone. I always loved that about her character.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Clear ostable she does She's gonna go to the wretch
- 42:10Speaker 1: and have big oh girl, how she did it. I
- 42:21Speaker 1: was like, oh, Vanessa, Oh what was you? I said,
- 42:25Speaker 1: that's a I said, that's a situation. She ain't gonna
- 42:29Speaker 1: never forget all her life. I want to have a
- 42:34Speaker 1: big fun, right.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Girl.
- 42:37Speaker 1: And that was the funniest. That was the funniest episode.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I loved that episode. So every movie has to have
- 42:48Speaker 1: a theme song. What would be the theme song for
- 42:53Speaker 1: the love that you have for your sons? Mm hmmm, gosh,
- 43:01Speaker 1: I know that one even got me. Oh whoa gosh
- 43:14Speaker 1: hmmm a theme song for us? Oh, it would have
- 43:21Speaker 1: to be Family Reunion, the one with jeraldt.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I love the feeling that I get when I
- 43:34Speaker 1: hear that song play, and it really talks about what
- 43:39Speaker 1: the intricate parts of family are. Ok. All right, so
- 43:46Speaker 1: we got the Wrench state, we have Brandon Brandon, and
- 43:52Speaker 1: then we have Claire keep on hearing rich and and
- 43:56Speaker 1: being in front of me in my head like, oh
- 44:04Speaker 1: my god. And have family reunion. Yes, you just meane
- 44:13Speaker 1: the best thing. But now before you leave, Yes, what
- 44:19Speaker 1: would you like to say to your old readers, you're
- 44:23Speaker 1: new readers and the readership you're going to gain once
- 44:27Speaker 1: this podcast has been repeated and showed fifty million times
- 44:32Speaker 1: because we're going to keep it up there, what would
- 44:34Speaker 1: you like to say to them about your books and
- 44:37Speaker 1: just about you in general. Well, I just definitely want
- 44:44Speaker 1: to say that this is an assignment that is raight
- 44:47Speaker 1: straight from the throne of God. This is his message
- 44:53Speaker 1: that he wanted to get out to all the mothers
- 44:57Speaker 1: that are raising boys young men. We're talking grandmothers, we're
- 45:02Speaker 1: talking aunties, we're talking guardians, we're talking step moms, we're
- 45:07Speaker 1: talking God moms. So any woman that God has given
- 45:13Speaker 1: the responsibility of a young man's life, mom of sons,
- 45:18Speaker 1: is for her. The devotionals are made to walk alongside
- 45:24Speaker 1: you in whatever season of motherhood you're in. This is
- 45:32Speaker 1: something that he just really wants every mother to know.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And he definitely wants moms to know they are not
- 45:39Speaker 1: alone in this. And he definitely wants you to know
- 45:44Speaker 1: that it is never too early to introduce your son
- 45:49Speaker 1: to his son, nor is it ever too late to
- 45:53Speaker 1: introduce your son to his son. Well, thank you, of course,
- 46:02Speaker 1: we thank you for being with us tonight. We done laugh.
- 46:06Speaker 1: We don't talk about the wretched. We already talked about
- 46:08Speaker 1: the boys. And the baby girl, my girl, y know,
- 46:17Speaker 1: she girl, Oh Lord, the little girl. But I thank
- 46:28Speaker 1: you for being with me tonight. You thank you for
- 46:33Speaker 1: I had such a good time. Thank you. Thank you.
- 46:38Speaker 1: So you guys, you go grab her serious. This will
- 46:41Speaker 1: be something great and as you transition to each part
- 46:47Speaker 1: of life, this will be a great gift to give
- 46:51Speaker 1: that person who just found out that they are having
- 46:54Speaker 1: a bouncing baby. Boy, that boy gonna bouncey help to
- 47:00Speaker 1: help you with the bouncing. Yeah, he flipped and he
- 47:03Speaker 1: gonna climb and he gonna yell. And my son scooted
- 47:07Speaker 1: it with one leg for about three four weeks. I
- 47:09Speaker 1: don't really Yeah, but the one school with leg on
- 47:13Speaker 1: one bag and he's just sweet. But it's dead. But
- 47:16Speaker 1: you know, both of mine were the bouncers because my
- 47:19Speaker 1: aunt started that with them. It's where she would just
- 47:23Speaker 1: bounce them and they anybody that held them, they wanted
- 47:27Speaker 1: you to just bounce them. Not mine. So mine was
- 47:32Speaker 1: not a bouncer. He was like a runner. Even when
- 47:36Speaker 1: he got older and my sister started to learn how
- 47:39Speaker 1: to dry m hm. Sneaked. They snuck out of the house.
- 47:45Speaker 1: My son I think he had tom be in like
- 47:47Speaker 1: maybe five or six coup but we're out of here, Greenny.
- 47:50Speaker 1: When they got in the car, Greeny, Oh my god.
- 47:59Speaker 1: The story, the story I can tell y'all about Jean Smith.
- 48:05Speaker 1: The one thing I will say, it is an honor
- 48:09Speaker 1: to be your mother. Yes, girl, put that in there?
- 48:15Speaker 1: Can I think sure? I just wanted to also tell
- 48:21Speaker 1: the viewers that I do have a podcast, the Mom
- 48:25Speaker 1: of Sons Podcast Faith Conversations, and it airs twice a month.
- 48:33Speaker 1: It's hosted by buzz Sprout. You can listen to it
- 48:36Speaker 1: on Spotify, Apple, Podcast, iHeartRadio, just about any platform you
