- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherry Mackie
- 0:04Speaker 1: at his time, right now for today's word. Speak to
- 0:08Speaker 1: your soul, Speak to your soul. Psalms forty two eleven
- 0:15Speaker 1: and the New Living Translation says, why am I discouraged?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Why is my heart so sad? I will put my
- 0:21Speaker 1: hope in God. I will praise him again, my Savior
- 0:26Speaker 1: and my God. In Psalm's forty two, the writer opens
- 0:30Speaker 1: his heart with raw honesty. He's deeply discouraged, overwhelmed, and
- 0:35Speaker 1: emotionally drained. He describes his pain as if it's crashing
- 0:40Speaker 1: over him in ways. He feels forgotten, he feels isolated,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and he feels wayed down by life. At one point,
- 0:47Speaker 1: it sounds like he's not sure how he's gonna make
- 0:50Speaker 1: it through. His thoughts are heavy and his words reflect
- 0:54Speaker 1: the death of his struggle. Have you ever been there?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Are you there now? A place where your feelings seem
- 1:02Speaker 1: louder than your faith, where disappointment, hurt and uncertainty tries
- 1:06Speaker 1: to convince you that things will never change. Well, that's
- 1:09Speaker 1: exactly where the Psalmist found himself. But something powerful happens
- 1:14Speaker 1: in the middle of his struggle. He makes a shift.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Instead of continuing to rehearse everything that's wrong, he begins
- 1:22Speaker 1: to talk back to himself. He asked, why am I discouraged?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Why is my heart so said? In other words, he
- 1:29Speaker 1: challenges what he's feeling. Then he gives himself a command
- 1:33Speaker 1: put your hope in God. He doesn't deny his feelings,
- 1:37Speaker 1: but he refuses to be ruled by them. See this
- 1:41Speaker 1: is a lesson for all of us. When we allow
- 1:44Speaker 1: our feelings to take control, we can easily fall into
- 1:48Speaker 1: a cycle of negativity, speaking defeat, expecting the worst, and
- 1:52Speaker 1: losing sight of God's promises. But we have the authority
- 1:57Speaker 1: to interrupt that cycle. We can chew to speak truth
- 2:01Speaker 1: over how we feel. Sometimes we're waiting on God to
- 2:05Speaker 1: change our situation, but God is waiting on us to
- 2:08Speaker 1: change our focus. He's waiting for us to lift our hands,
- 2:12Speaker 1: open our mouths, and declare what we know is true,
- 2:15Speaker 1: even when we don't feel it yet. See, talking back
- 2:19Speaker 1: to your feelings doesn't mean ignoring reality. It means elevating
- 2:24Speaker 1: truth above reality. It means reminding yourself that God is
- 2:28Speaker 1: still faithful, God is still present, and God is still
- 2:32Speaker 1: in control. It means declaring that this is not the
- 2:35Speaker 1: end of your story. Notice the Psalmist says, I will
- 2:40Speaker 1: praise him again. See that's a decision, y'all, not based
- 2:43Speaker 1: on emotion, but on faith. He's saying, I will be
- 2:48Speaker 1: up again. I may be down right now, but I
- 2:50Speaker 1: won't stay down. I will rise again. I will praise again.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I will hope again. So today, if discouragement is trying
- 2:59Speaker 1: to settle in your heart, it's time to speak to
- 3:01Speaker 1: your soul. Remind yourself who God is, remind yourself what
- 3:05Speaker 1: He's done, and remind yourself that better days are still ahead.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Oh Father, God, thank you that you are our savior
- 3:12Speaker 1: and our God. Thank you that even when we feel discouraged,
- 3:15Speaker 1: we can put our hope in you. God, help us
- 3:18Speaker 1: to speak truth over our lives and not to be
- 3:20Speaker 1: ruled by our feelings. God, we declare that our eyes
- 3:23Speaker 1: are fixed on you, and we will praise you again
- 3:26Speaker 1: in Jesus' name. Now that's your word for today. Take
- 3:30Speaker 1: it applied to your everyday life, and you continue to
- 3:32Speaker 1: be encouraged and inspired. It's your early morning praise party.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I am Sherry Mackie
