- 0:04Speaker 1: The Joe Rogan Experience.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night, all day.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Thanks for the heads up, so I'm not tripping later on. Hey, dude.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Good to see you, man.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah, good to see you, too.
- 0:20Speaker 3: What's cracking? You got a diamond in your tooth? Is
- 0:21that what's going on?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Nice. That's fun.
- 0:24Speaker 3: My friend Cam just got a gold tooth, and I
- 0:27was giving him a hard time. Then I was like, damn,
- 0:29I think I want one.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to get one, dude.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I'm thinking of getting a gold tooth. I have a cap.
- 0:34I have a root canal. I'm going to get a
- 0:36cap out of one of them. I think I'm going
- 0:38to swap it out for a gold tooth.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Do it. Do it. Fuck yeah. I got one back
- 0:43here somewhere. It's just that little, like, I don't know,
- 0:46that little pirate thing starts to happen.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I know. It's just a little outcast-y.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 3: So what's cracking, brother? How you doing?
- 0:56Speaker 1: I'm good, man. I'm good. I'm stoked to be here
- 1:00to see you.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Stoked to have you here.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Shit, I wish I was staying longer now.
- 1:07But we'll make the best of it.
- 1:09Speaker 3: How long are you staying? How long are you in
- 1:10town for?
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm leaving after.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Right after this?
- 1:13Speaker 1: After you, yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Where are you headed?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Back home, L.A. My son is getting married.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Oh, congratulations.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Thanks, thanks. Which is such a trip, dude. You know, like,
- 1:26he's 29. And he's getting married. And I'm just, I've
- 1:31been kind of tripping out on that. Like, dude, where
- 1:34the fuck did that time A go? Right. And like,
- 1:39I'm so fucking happy for him that he's been seeing
- 1:45this girl for seven years. I'm so proud that he
- 1:49did exactly the opposite of his dad. You know what
- 1:53I mean?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 1:54Speaker 1: He knows and they've been, Basically, they've been married, you know,
- 1:59and they're just making it official now. And I'm just
- 2:03so happy for them. Like, I tell them all the time, like,
- 2:06so happy for you, dude. Like, you know, you use
- 2:11some patience and some love and, like, mix it all
- 2:15around and put some time in there. And, you know, shit's, like,
- 2:19your survival rate is going to be way better. Way better.
- 2:23And that makes me really happy.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And your happiness rate. I think if you're a kid
- 2:28and your dad is Tommy Lee and you've had such
- 2:30a fucking crazy chaotic life, he's probably like, slow down.
- 2:34Give me a fucking yard and a picket fence and whoa.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Totally. Totally. That's why like, you know, in the drift
- 2:41of everything, I'm really surprised and I'm really happy he
- 2:45just like pumped the brakes.
- 2:47Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Just like make sure that what he's doing is the
- 2:51real shit.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, especially in L.A. with a rock star dad,
- 2:56it's like there's so many bad influences. There's so many
- 2:58ways you could go. Well, you could just ruin your
- 3:01fucking life. It's so easy to ruin your life if
- 3:04you're in the wrong circles.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Dude.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So easy.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Right?
- 3:08Speaker 3: Because everybody else is doing it too. You're like, hey,
- 3:10I guess we're doing meth.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I know. Fuck.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I'm fucking just– I mean I know people that are
- 3:17good people that have fallen down that rabbit hole and
- 3:21they're not bad people. They're not even stupid, man. They
- 3:24just made a bad decision for whatever reason and then
- 3:28next thing you know, they're all strung out. And it's like,
- 3:32LA is the hub of that.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 3: There's so much of that going on in LA.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah. And if you are, have any sort of, that
- 3:40sort of shit magnet attached to you. Yeah. You know,
- 3:44the shady friends and the weird circles you just kind of.
- 3:48Of course. And all of a sudden you're just fucking. Oh.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I mean, I don't live in the rock and roll world,
- 3:55but I think that's probably the most attractive to like
- 3:59crazy people.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Like that world. That is the world where if you're
- 4:02a fucking kook, like you gravitate towards that world, you know?
- 4:06It's probably so hard to find like sane, balanced people
- 4:11that are– Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You know? Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 3: They have their shit together. It's like it's almost impossible.
- 4:16So like you just– Comparing yourself to the other chaotic
- 4:20people you're around. And you're the fucking drummer in Motley Crue.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I mean, how are you.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Supposed to be normal? What the fuck are you talking about?
- 4:28What kind of life is that? That's such a bizarre life.
- 4:30It's the craziest life of all time. You're fucking slamming
- 4:34the drums on stage in front of literally a sea
- 4:37of human beings singing along to your music. Nobody can
- 4:42understand that.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I know, man.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they've seen it all. They've seen it all. Like,
- 4:48I put them to work out on tour, you know,
- 4:51just so, you know, we could hang out and spend time.
- 4:55They're like, you know, get them a radio. All of
- 4:59a sudden, one of my sons is part of the
- 5:01lighting crew helping those guys. My other son is like,
- 5:06all he wants to know about is like, Dad, I
- 5:09want to be in charge of all the after show passes.
- 5:12I'll go out while you're playing and I'm going to
- 5:14hit all the chicks. And, like, my son is out
- 5:18there just stack of passes. Come on back afterwards. Come
- 5:22on back. And then watching him, like, have just running it, right?
- 5:29It just, like, brings a tear to my.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Eye, man. That's cool.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That's very cool.
- 5:37Speaker 3: When you look back, like, how much of a dream
- 5:39does it feel? I mean, it's got to feel very
- 5:42bizarre that you, you know, Every young guy who plays
- 5:46music wants to be in a gigantic band. They all
- 5:49want to be rock stars. And when it actually happens
- 5:52for you and then you're looking back on it, like
- 5:53how fucking surreal does it all feel?
- 5:56Speaker 1: It's dude, I pinch myself still daily, literally. And I'm,
- 6:03I'm just fucking, I don't know, man. I'm just lucky
- 6:06to be here. I'm lucky I get to do this.
- 6:09I always say to people like, There's a couple of
- 6:13things that are involved with that whole thing. There's some luck,
- 6:18some talent, timing of things. And when those things kind
- 6:24of all line up and it happens for you and
- 6:28it just happens at fucking supersonic speeds where like a
- 6:33lot of it's a fucking blur. Like a ton of
- 6:36it's a blur where you have to have somebody else
- 6:38like remind you. You're like, oh shit, that's right. I
- 6:41totally forgot we did that. You know, like about crazy times.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a trip, dude. I spend a lot of time, like,
- 6:51hanging on.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Fuck. Here we go.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Did you get a chance, like, when you were coming
- 6:58up to talk to any other rock stars? Did anybody
- 7:00give you advice on how to handle things? Like, how
- 7:03weird it's going to be?
- 7:04Speaker 1: No. I'm trying to think of any sort of a.
- 7:08mentor kind of dude on like how to survive the shit.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Like no pull keith richards aside and say hey man
- 7:15how about a few tips how'd you do this he's
- 7:19still here Bro, I saw them at CODA, at the
- 7:22Circuit of the Americas a couple years back. They were
- 7:25fucking incredible, man. Incredible.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Insane.
- 7:28Speaker 3: They're like, how old is Keith?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Dude.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Are they like 80?
- 7:32Speaker 1: He's gotta be.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Mick is like 80? Bro, Mick is moving around and
- 7:37dancing and singing.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Insane.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Insane.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Dude, and let me tell you a fun, quick little
- 7:43story here. Motley Crue gets to open up for the
- 7:48Rolling Stones. This was on Halloween, I forget what fucking year.
- 7:52We were at some stadium, and I think it was Toronto.
- 7:56We got to open for them, and we were so
- 7:58fucking pumped. We were like, dude, are you kidding me?
- 8:02We get to fucking do this? Anyway, we play our
- 8:07show back in the dressing room. After we're done, the
- 8:13Stones tour manager comes into the dressing room and goes, Tommy.
- 8:17I was like, yeah. He goes, Mick, Ronnie, and Keith
- 8:21would like to see you. And I was like, Brad.
- 8:25I fucking head over there. And, dude, this is 20
- 8:32minutes before they're to go on. I go into their world,
- 8:36and they bring a bartender around with them. So there's
- 8:40a guy set up just slinging fucking drinks. Mick isn't hammered,
- 8:47but fucking Keith and Ronnie, dude, They were fucking walking
- 8:52on their lips. I'm talking shitty like, hey, fucking right.
- 8:58Just falling over with their guitars.
- 9:00Speaker 3: 20 minutes before they go on stage.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm like, how are these guys going to fuck? There's
- 9:06no way they're playing. I'm sorry. There's no way. No
- 9:10fucking way. And all of a sudden, we took a
- 9:13couple of photos and it was like, let's go to
- 9:15the stage. And I'm like, oh, I got to see this.
- 9:17I'm walking with them, right? They get up there, fucking
- 9:21lights go out. Boom. They fucking, I think they started
- 9:24with start me up. And it was like a switch flipped.
- 9:34All of a sudden those guys were fucking money, like
- 9:38100% fucking rocking out. I was like, how did they
- 9:41just go? They've been doing it for so long that
- 9:45they just, they're masters of the controls. They're like, yeah, okay.
- 9:49I guess we can get this amount of fucked up
- 9:52and then we can go. Like, it's okay.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I think some guys just.
- 9:55Speaker 1: was a crazy level. Like I was, I saw that.
- 9:58You could barely talk. And then they went up there
- 10:00and fucking ripped it. I wish I saw that.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Some guys just want to be fucked up to just
- 10:06feel the experience, just to just ride it like a
- 10:09wild bull, you know, just wherever you land. That's what
- 10:13some guys like to do it. I mean, and rock,
- 10:15I don't have to tell you, Rock and roll music
- 10:18is the heart of that. That's where it really goes down,
- 10:20where a lot of guys like to get fucked up
- 10:23before they play. You want to see something fucking inspirational?
- 10:26I'm going to show you something crazy.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Always.
- 10:29Speaker 3: This is, have you seen, Jamie, have you seen Rick
- 10:33Springfield lately?
- 10:36Speaker 1: I did just see him, and I was like, whoa, dude.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I'm going to send you a video, and it's going
- 10:40to blow you away. This is literally bananas. This is
- 10:43Rick Springfield. He's 76 years old. Okay? 76.
- 10:49Speaker 1: 76.
- 10:50Speaker 3: 76. And he's singing Jessie's Girl like he just wrote it.
- 10:55And he's fucking.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Put the headphones on.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Bro.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Put the headphones on and back this up from the beginning. Whoa. Well,
- 11:04I just sent it to you on Instagram.
- 11:06Speaker 1: He's ripped.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Click on the other link then, the one that I
- 11:10sent you on Instagram. Because you can't, first of all,
- 11:15he looks fucking incredible. Like he's working out every day
- 11:19or something. I mean, I don't even understand it. He
- 11:20looks like a 30-year-old guy.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And he's singing the song like he just wrote it. Bro, 76.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 3: You know it feels so dirty when they start talking
- 11:43that's crazy.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Amazing, man.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 12:04Speaker 1: That's fucking inspirational.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Inspirational. 76 years old. And the passion and enthusiasm is
- 12:10what kills me. This is not a guy who's like
- 12:12just going out there and going through the motions. He's
- 12:15singing that song like he just wrote it.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Fuck yeah, Rick Springfield.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Yeah, good job, bro.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Fuck yeah. That's amazing.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I've been sending that to everybody. I'm like, fuck yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I saw that. I saw that clip and I was like, whoa.
- 12:29Speaker 3: A lot of people in their 76 are basically waiting
- 12:31to die. This dude's on stage with no shirt on,
- 12:35fucking crushing life.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Dude, I love it.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I love it.
- 12:38Speaker 1: That's going to be me still 10 years from now,
- 12:41fucking just rocking shit.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Well, I remember in the 80s, there were no old
- 12:46rock stars. Like, no one was out there touring that
- 12:50was an old rock star.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You're right. You're right.
- 12:53Speaker 3: And then the Stones released a new album. I think
- 12:55it was like 88 or 89.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 3: And everybody was like, wow, they're going to tour again?
- 13:00It was almost like, aren't they done with this? Like,
- 13:03they're older now.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:05Speaker 3: And then it started being a thing where a bunch
- 13:08of older guys would, like, go out on tour that
- 13:10hadn't been on tour in a while. And now it's–
- 13:13and people are like, why are we retiring?
- 13:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Like, why? Why would I stop doing the most amazing
- 13:18thing that a human being ever gets to do?
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that you love to do.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 1: No, let me stop doing that.
- 13:24Speaker 3: It was like a thing with hip hop artists, too.
- 13:27They would get to an older age and people just
- 13:29didn't appreciate them anymore. It's like it was like a
- 13:32young guy's game. But now a lot of those older
- 13:34guys are going on tour, too. And people realize, oh,
- 13:36these guys are fucking dope. Like I saw Run DMC
- 13:39went on or excuse me, Public Enemy went on with
- 13:44I think it was I think it was Bruce Springsteen.
- 13:47I think Bruce Springsteen had them go up in one
- 13:49of his concerts. I'm like, fuck yeah, look at these dudes.
- 13:51They're killing it. They're still getting after it.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That's the best, man. You got to love that. And
- 13:58I think that... I don't know if you call it
- 14:01a resurgence or just that style of like... There are
- 14:05certain things that were really great that have stood the
- 14:10test of time. And I really think that... The way
- 14:16shit is now, man, there is too fucking much. Like,
- 14:21there's too much music. Like, Spotify releases like 300 fucking
- 14:27thousand songs a day. Really? Who the fuck is listening
- 14:31to all this music, dude? I'm in the business, and
- 14:34if I can't keep up, how can a fan of
- 14:36music keep up? So I just, I think that the
- 14:41excess of It's just static, and it's really blown a
- 14:46hole through for original stuff, really good stuff, because a
- 14:55lot of the stuff is all kind of sounding the
- 14:57same now. But I think that it's been a cool
- 15:04progression that's sort of fueled that. I don't know if
- 15:09I'm making sense.
- 15:10Speaker 3: No, you're making sense.
- 15:11Speaker 1: You know what I'm trying to say? There's so much
- 15:14static now that– the sort of.
- 15:18Speaker 3: The something has to be undeniable to break through.
- 15:21Speaker 1: The authentic stuff still fucking holds water yeah big time
- 15:26and you.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Know well there's always like one song that all of
- 15:30a sudden resonates and just goes super viral because people
- 15:33listen to it and go holy shit yeah there's always
- 15:36going to be something that's exceptional but I do agree
- 15:39it's impossible there's a lot of great music that I
- 15:41don't know anything about and then someone turns me on
- 15:43to it and I'm like how the fuck did I not.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Know this guy yeah yeah And had your friends not
- 15:49turned you on to that, you'd never fucking know.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Well, there's no real radio anymore.
- 15:55Speaker 1: No. Right?
- 15:56Speaker 3: So how do you find out? When I was a kid,
- 15:58when I was in high school, a new Motley Crue
- 16:02song came out. It was on the fucking radio.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Yeah, right.
- 16:04Speaker 3: And then you knew, all right, the new album's out.
- 16:06Let's go get the new album.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 3: And that was with every major band. It was like,
- 16:10then you got MTV. MTV came along. Oh, the music
- 16:13video's out. The album's out. But now it's like anyone
- 16:18can just put stuff up, you know.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Which is great.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yeah, which is cool. But it's also– look, it's all
- 16:24overall positive because you have more artists and more people
- 16:28that are doing what they want to do.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 3: More people that are making music, which is awesome. But, like,
- 16:33it's the same thing with movies. Can you imagine if
- 16:34you had to watch every movie ever made? You'd have
- 16:37to be a million years old until we'd never finish.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 16:41Speaker 3: It's not enough hours in the day.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Yeah. It's the same musically– what's happening musically, that's happening
- 16:48with everything entertainment-wise, with films, television shows. There's an abundance of, like,
- 16:57it's just too much. How do people... I mean, people
- 17:01got these, you know, TV packages where they've got subscriptions 4,000
- 17:10different places, and you still can't find anything to watch.
- 17:13You're like... What the fuck is happening here, everybody? We
- 17:16got to, like, peel it back a little bit. Make
- 17:20it a little easier here.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Well, there's so many options. Too many options. It's almost
- 17:23like dating apps, right? Like, if some chick is chewing
- 17:27her food with her mouth open, you're like, swipe.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Like, who's next?
- 17:30Speaker 3: Like, people get, they don't get a chance to know anybody.
- 17:33And I think that's also the same thing with movies
- 17:35and TV shows. Because if you're watching Netflix, if you
- 17:37get bored for three seconds, you're like, fuck this movie.
- 17:40What else is on? Bip, bip, bip. You know? Okay,
- 17:42try this one. And you watch that for 10 minutes,
- 17:44not fuck this. I would like to see their numbers
- 17:47of like how long people actually watch a show or
- 17:49a movie on Netflix before they shut it off. I
- 17:52bet it's way different than in the past. I bet
- 17:55in the old days, most people watched the movie to
- 17:57the end.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Sure.
- 17:58Speaker 3: I bet now it's like 20%.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Oh, dude. If that.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I'm just going to say a little bit more.
- 18:04Speaker 3: If that.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 3: It's short attention span life right now. It's very– Very
- 18:09bad for you.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Sometimes you got to just take something in.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And that affects the people who create the stuff because
- 18:17you realize I'm dealing with a bunch of fucking six-year-olds here.
- 18:22And if my shit isn't banging within the first– whether
- 18:26it's a movie or a song or whatever it is,
- 18:29whatever your art is, if it's not fucking ripping your

- 18:54Speaker 3: A hundred percent.
- 18:54Speaker 1: And that sucks. Yeah. That sucks.
- 18:57Speaker 3: They don't have to give in to that.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Nobody's got time for. for suspense or... Yeah. Ah, fuck that.

- 19:54Casino in Kansas that text passed Well, think about some
- 19:57of the songs from the past that would never pass
- 19:58muster today that are just amazing classics, like Whole Lotta Love.
- 20:00So Whole Lotta Love, you have a minute and a
- 20:01half fuck sounds with cymbals.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Before it comes back to this insane guitar solo.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Right?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right.
- 20:34Speaker 3: It's like the most bizarre song ever.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of drum solo-y, kind of off into nowhere.
- 20:41Speaker 3: And classically, Freebird. When Leonard Skinner released Freebird, they're like, no, no, no,
- 20:45this song takes way too long to get going. It's
- 20:49so long. It's like a seven-minute song. This is never
- 20:52going to fly. Meanwhile, it's one of the greatest anthems
- 20:54in the history of the world. And perhaps the greatest
- 20:57guitar solo in the history of the fucking human race. Right, right.
- 21:01You know? Freebird, when that dude gets going, you see
- 21:04it live and everybody's fucking... The whole fucking place is
- 21:08going off. It's one of the greatest guitar solos in
- 21:10the history of the fucking human race. And their record
- 21:13company was like, it's too long. People don't have any
- 21:16attention span for this, guys.
- 21:17Speaker 1: God, even back then people were fucking hating.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Well, it's always the people that are the money people.
- 21:23Because all they give a fuck about is money. And
- 21:25you're in the creative side of it. And the money
- 21:27people are just pimping out the creative side of it.
- 21:30And they're just trying to get you to suck as
- 21:32many dicks as they can because they want to buy
- 21:35a Rolls Royce. They're like, come on. Suck that dick.
- 21:38Let's go.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 21:39Speaker 3: And they don't give a fuck about you or your
- 21:41reputation because then they got fucking Nickelback over here and
- 21:44this guy over there. And there's always a new band.
- 21:46They can push and pimp.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:48Speaker 3: And so they just want to make the maximum amount
- 21:50of money possible. So they always have shitty advice because
- 21:53their advice is based on making money.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. And for that reason– When we were on
- 22:01Electro Records, they were never allowed in the studio. No
- 22:06one from the label.
- 22:07Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 22:08Speaker 1: We allowed them once, and he came in and started
- 22:10making changes or suggesting edits and stuff. We're like, out.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Out.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:19Speaker 1: You'll get it when it's done here.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Oh, God. So gross.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. Here's some guy making those kind of calls
- 22:27who has no idea. Not a musician, has no idea
- 22:31about what key the fucking song's in. All he knows
- 22:34is it's too long.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And we've got to get to it quicker.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Well, it's these people that have ego for no real reason.
- 22:43They're just kind of, they're just involved with other great
- 22:46creative people and that's what they sell. That's their business
- 22:49is to sell stuff that's awesome. And somehow or another
- 22:52they think it makes them awesome. It's very weird. Like,
- 22:56you know, Zach Bryan, he's got a great song called,
- 23:00I think it's Damn Cold Vampires or Cold Damn Vampires.
- 23:03It's a great fucking song about.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It's a fucking tongue twister.
- 23:06Speaker 3: It's a great fucking song. It's about the music industry.
- 23:08And it's about these vampires that are just sucking blood
- 23:14out of these artists. And it was a great song,
- 23:17a great line in the song, trying to make an
- 23:20empire of the things that you create. They're making an
- 23:24empire from other people's work. That's what they're doing. But
- 23:27they somehow or another think that they're responsible and that
- 23:30they have an insight. I'm good at my job, Tommy Lee.
- 23:34Let me tell you something, kid. I know music. And
- 23:37that drum solo, 14 seconds too long. I'm going to
- 23:41tell you why. I'm going to show you these statistics.
- 23:44We've got a guy.
- 23:44Speaker 1: We've got statistics.
- 23:45Speaker 3: We've got the best guy, the best statistics guy. He
- 23:48knows when people are– and when they get to this
- 23:50fucking part of the drum solo, they tune out, Tommy.
- 23:53We've got to stop them from tuning out.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Totally.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Because I want to get a Kona seg. I want
- 23:57to get one of them fucking $ 2 million cars. These cunts,
- 24:02they exist in every walk of life where one person
- 24:07is like a creative type that's not business oriented. And
- 24:10you need a business person.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Yes.
- 24:12Speaker 3: So the business people come in because someone's got to
- 24:14sell it. You're not going to fucking sell it.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, right.
- 24:15Speaker 1: What are you going to do?
- 24:16Speaker 3: You're going to make your own record company? You're going
- 24:18to hire your own executives and do your own promotion?
- 24:20Get the fuck out of here.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 3: You can't.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:22Speaker 3: So they come along and they get involved and they
- 24:25fuck it all up.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 3: And how many guys have listened to them and ruined
- 24:29their careers because they listened to them?
- 24:31Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 24:32Speaker 3: You know the Billy Squire story?
- 24:35Speaker 1: What? So Billy Squire was the shit when I was
- 24:41in high school.
- 24:41Speaker 3: He had that song Lonely is the Night. Oh, my God.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I love Billy Squire.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Dude, The Stroke. He was fantastic. And he did one
- 24:51music video where it was like very effeminate. It was
- 24:55like really weird.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Oh, was it when he's in his pajamas or something?
- 24:59Speaker 3: It was really weird. And everybody was like, nope.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah. What is he doing? Yeah.
- 25:04Speaker 3: It was really weird. And to this day, I don't
- 25:07know if that was his idea or somebody else's idea.
- 25:10They just took a wild chance.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:12Speaker 3: I don't know. No one knows. I pray to God
- 25:14it was his idea. Because at least, like, he's creative,
- 25:17made a creative decision, didn't work out, whatever.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Yeah, fine.
- 25:20Speaker 3: But if someone tanked his career because they wanted him
- 25:25to act feminine in a song, it was like.
- 25:30The reaction was crazy because this guy was like a
- 25:34sex symbol. He was like, you know, shirt down to his,
- 25:37you know, open up down to his pants. He was
- 25:40a bad motherfucker. He could sing his ass off.
- 25:43Speaker 1: He's a star.
- 25:44Speaker 3: One music video tanked him.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I think it was My Condo Lover. I think that
- 25:49was the song where.
- 25:51Speaker 3: See if you can find what the video was. This
- 25:53is it.
- 25:54Speaker 4: It was a documentary someone made on Facebook, I found.
- 25:58Speaker 3: About it?
- 25:58Speaker 4: About this whole thing, yeah.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Yeah, this is it. Yeah, so it was very weird.
- 26:03Speaker 1: What song is it? Can you hear? I will....
- 26:09Speaker 3: So it was somebody else's idea? That guy with the face?
- 26:12That guy with the face looks like the guy that
- 26:16would tell you.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Totally.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, he's crawling around on his knees and his hands
- 26:20are at his knees.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:21Speaker 3: It was weird. It was very weird.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Fuck, what song was this?
- 26:26Speaker 3: You know, if he was like, look at this. Look
- 26:29at him skipping around. It was very odd.
- 26:32Speaker 1: That guy.
- 26:33Speaker 3: That seems like the type of guy that would give
- 26:34you the bad advice.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Something Me Tonight is the name of the song. I
- 26:38want to... Fuck.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I'll look up his song. You're not familiar with that title.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know either.
- 26:43Speaker 1: But I know... That was it. I remember that.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And everybody's like, nope.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 3: That's a wrap. And that guy should have had like
- 26:51fucking 50 giant albums. That guy was amazing.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Such an incredible singer, man.
- 26:57Speaker 1: So loud.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Rock Me Tonight, 1984.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Oh.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I have to cut.
- 27:04Speaker 1: That out.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll cut that part out. But you can see
- 27:06him dancing around.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Like, look at this.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Don't do that, buddy. What is this? He's like.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Don't do that. Yeah, we need you on the
- 27:16ground swarming around. Hopefully.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Hopefully it was his idea.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 3: My God, if this was somebody else's idea. I want
- 27:22you to be looser. I want you to be looser.
- 27:25I want you to be more free. I want you
- 27:28to be like, I want to feel it. I want
- 27:31to feel your vulnerable side. I want you on your
- 27:34hands and knees. I want you crawling. This is what
- 27:37I want you to do. I want you to be
- 27:38like this. Like you barely can crawl. Like you're having
- 27:41a hard time crawling. That's what girls like. Girls like
- 27:44a guy who struggles to crawl.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yes, dude. Oh, my God. Like what the fuck.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Did you do to him?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Oh, my God. What did you do to him? I know.
- 27:55I hope it was his idea.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Despite its major success, the song is sometimes associated with
- 27:59the end of his career as a singles musician due
- 28:02to the music video, which is described as one of
- 28:04the worst ever in a 2011 book I want my MTV,
- 28:08the uncensored story of the music video revolution. Shows Squire
- 28:14dancing around in a bed with pastel-colored satin sheets and
- 28:17wearing a pink tank top. Squire's concert ticket sales immediately declined,
- 28:22and he later fired his managers. He has accused Ortega
- 28:26of deceiving him and altering his original concept, which Ortega denies,
- 28:30while Squire remains steadfast that the video was solely responsible
- 28:33for the initial decline of his popularity. Other commentators are
- 28:36less certain. Well, I'm pretty certain. I remember it. I
- 28:40remember kids in high school going, what the fuck, bro?
- 28:43Speaker 1: What the fuck is Billy Squire doing, bro?
- 28:46Speaker 3: That shit's gay, bro. Because Billy Squire was the man.
- 28:49I mean, he could have been another John Mellencamp. He
- 28:54could have gone on forever.
- 28:55Speaker 1: For sure.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Like, what the fuck, dude? 84, one song, one music video?
- 29:02Speaker 1: Insane. That is really crazy if you think about it.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's nuts. It's nuts. Well, that's the craziest thing
- 29:09about– we think about like the success of Motley Crue
- 29:12and bands like from your era. The fact that you
- 29:15guys endured for so long, like still to this day. Bro,
- 29:20if I'm working out in the gym and Kickstart My
- 29:22Heart comes on, I swear to God I get stronger.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Fuck yeah! You get pumped, man. That song's a drug.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that one, man, I can't tell you how fun,
- 29:39how it rewarding that is to, like, sit back and, like,
- 29:44I don't know, the Super Bowl's on and the fucking kickoff. Oh, dude.
- 29:49Speaker 3: We got to cut it out, but I want to
- 29:50hear it. Throw Kickstart My Heart on. We'll cut it.
- 29:53We have to cut it out for YouTube. We'll get
- 29:56docked with. The fucking money people come involved. Meanwhile, we're
- 30:00just promoting music. God damn it. With Tommy Lee, you motherfuckers.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yeah, right?
- 30:04Speaker 3: You fucking hear it. This fucking song. Oh, is this live?
- 30:08Don't give me a live one. Give me the actual one. Bro,
- 30:11that was one of the most American songs that's ever
- 30:13been made. Ever.
- 30:15Speaker 1: That song is fuel.
- 30:19Speaker 3: That song is fucking fuel. If you were running in
- 30:21a race and you're thinking about quitting and that song
- 30:23comes on your headphones, you're like.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Let's fucking go.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Let's fucking go. Songs like that, they really do give
- 30:31you energy. They really are like a drug.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they're definitely injected.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it changes your state.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I love that one. Isn't that fucking wild, the power
- 30:44that music has? Like, the right kind of song. You know,
- 30:48everybody's different, but there's nothing better than, like, I get
- 30:52fucking goosebumps, bro. If something comes along that just, and
- 30:58it gets inside you. Yeah. It's fucking infectious, and all
- 31:01of a sudden you're like, dude, it's taking over my
- 31:03whole body. I'm fucking tingling. Yeah. Hair's standing up. And
- 31:09you're like, what is that? Yeah. What the fuck is that? Like,
- 31:12I want to fucking bottle that up and try to
- 31:15recreate whatever that is.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just an encapsulation of emotion with sound frequencies
- 31:23that just changes your physical state. It does something to
- 31:26you that's like, it's one of the most amazing creations
- 31:29that human beings have ever done. One of the most
- 31:33amazing accomplishments that human beings have ever done is just
- 31:36make incredible music. Because it's one of the things that
- 31:40it affects us in a way that like nothing else.
- 31:43And you can hear them over and over and over
- 31:45and over again. Like a great joke is awesome the
- 31:48first time. But after you hear it the second time,
- 31:50it loses a little of its power. The third time,
- 31:52it gets a little boring. A great song, I can
- 31:56listen to that. Sometimes when I'm working out, I just
- 31:58put something on repeat. I'm like, oh, I just want
- 32:00to hear this song, one song over and over and
- 32:02over again.
- 32:02Speaker 1: And just wear the fucker out.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Wear that fucker out. I don't care. It's so good.
- 32:06I don't give a fuck. I just want to feel.
- 32:08Let's fucking go. And every time it comes back, I'm like, fuck, yeah.
- 32:12And we're back.
- 32:13Speaker 1: You know?
- 32:14Speaker 3: It's like it changes the frequency of your actual soul.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Yes.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Like your body gets moved by it. You feel different.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I want to ask you a question because you're into
- 32:26all this fucking crazy shit. Yeah. I saw somewhere recently,
- 32:32and this just goes along with that feeling, that euphoric
- 32:35feeling you get when the right notes or frequencies hit you.
- 32:42I saw that through sound, certain frequencies, like some dude
- 32:47in China, some doctor in China, or is it Japan,
- 32:53is this close to healing fucking cancer through sound. Through frequency. Really?
- 33:00Speaker 3: No, I haven't seen that.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Have you seen any of this?
- 33:03Speaker 3: I haven't seen it, but I wouldn't be surprised.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I wouldn't either because, you know, it just fascinates me
- 33:10because there is those frequencies out there that you know
- 33:14about them, 432, 432 hertz. You've heard about that stuff?
- 33:18Speaker 3: Explain it to people.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Well, it's just there's some weird, what do you call it,
- 33:26conspiracy theories about– Originally, our music like Bach, Beethoven, back
- 33:33in those days, was tuned to 432 hertz. And this
- 33:43is the conspiracy bullshit part about it. At some point,
- 33:46and people say Hitler changed the tuning, the pitch of music,
- 33:54and now everything was raised to 440 instead of you
- 34:01know 432 instead of 432 now it's at 440 it's
- 34:07it's up and it's in the frequency is more aggressive
- 34:11and it was said that it was done to give
- 34:14the soldiers more fucking you know angst and correct this music.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Well they were also given a meth Excuse me? They
- 34:22were also giving them meth.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Between meth and Kickstart My Heart.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Imagine if the Nazis had Kickstart My Heart. It would
- 34:29have been a real problem.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Dude, no, no.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Kickstart My Heart in German?
- 34:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, my Lord.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that would have been a real problem.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I'm just curious, because I know that you're into that
- 34:38kind of stuff. Any sound therapy or healing through frequencies...
- 34:45If you've heard any of that stuff.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Well, I know people do sound baths where they'll do
- 34:50these meditation experiments where they lie on their back and
- 34:53they have someone that is making sounds. And there's something
- 34:56to it. But just think about like what we're saying
- 34:59with Kickstart My Heart. Like when you hear a great song,
- 35:02it changes the way you feel. It changes your feeling.
- 35:05It gives you more energy. It really does. So obviously
- 35:08sound has a profound effect on the human body. And
- 35:11it's not just like you, there's a lot of aspects
- 35:15to a great song, right? It's the sound. It's also
- 35:17the messaging that's in the lyrics. It's like, there's a
- 35:19lot of, there's a lot going on. The voice of
- 35:21the singer. You know, the visuals of everybody fucking rocking
- 35:24out on stage.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Sure.
- 35:26Speaker 3: That also contributes to it. But the actual sound itself
- 35:29is affecting your body in a very profound way. And
- 35:32I wouldn't be surprised that there's ways that sound could
- 35:35provide like therapeutic benefits to like people that are injured,
- 35:40that are healing, sickness. I'm sure. I mean, if you
- 35:43were lying in a hospital bed and you felt like
- 35:45shit because you just had surgery. But you're listening to
- 35:47some dope music. Wouldn't that be better than just listening
- 35:50to people moan in the next room? Like, ugh! Get
- 35:55me out of here.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you're inputting something nice.
- 35:58Speaker 3: It should be a part of your recovery.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Getting positive vibes in. Things that give you good feeling
- 36:05and good energy.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I do that all the time, man. I'll sit at
- 36:09home when you're in the mood to not really listen
- 36:14to music, but hear music where it's just playing in
- 36:18the background. And I'll, I'll just put, there's these YouTube
- 36:22videos of, um, these beautiful Japanese gardens in Kyoto or whatever.
- 36:28And there's like high def shots of these just beautiful,
- 36:31you know, bonsai trees, koi ponds, uh, big Milwaukee bonsai, like,
- 36:39and it's just so chill. And with that music and
- 36:43I just, I just put it on and it's kind
- 36:44of on a lot. actually, and I find myself, that's
- 36:48where I go to, like, just, like, I don't know.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it puts you in a different state.
- 36:53Speaker 1: It puts me in a different space, you know? Yeah.
- 36:56I dig it, man.
- 36:57Speaker 3: You got really into bonsai.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 37:00Speaker 3: How did that start?
- 37:02Speaker 1: All the times that we've gone to Japan, every time
- 37:08I went there, I always went to the Japanese gardens
- 37:11or the temples, and I'd walk around and just be like,
- 37:15my jaw on the floor. Like I've never seen anything
- 37:18this fucking peaceful and beautiful. And just like, I don't know,
- 37:24it just came over this feeling that every time I went,
- 37:27I came over me and I just, I started studying it.
- 37:30This is like eight years ago. I was like, I
- 37:34need this in my life somehow. I don't know what
- 37:36this is, but let me go down, you know, down
- 37:40the tube here and figure out what that is and
- 37:43how I can get some of this into my life
- 37:45and I found some fucking videos on doing bonsai work
- 37:49on trees and I started and I haven't stopped and
- 37:53it's been hands down the coolest fucking thing I've ever
- 37:58gotten into man like I'll be out there for hours
- 38:02every day like I'll start my day just being with
- 38:05nature and being with the trees that I'm working on
- 38:07and I got like a workshop, dude. It's like a,
- 38:11there's like in progress, uh, works on the bench. There's
- 38:16other ones I'm bending. Uh, there's ones that I'm, you know, uh, uh,
- 38:21treating for pests, you know, um, there's, it's a whole
- 38:25world and wiring everything, training it to where you want
- 38:28to go pruning. It's just, it, it lets me escape
- 38:33everything for a couple of hours. I just, I just,
- 38:37I don't know, man. I just check out.
- 38:40Speaker 3: How many years you've been doing this now?
- 38:41Speaker 1: I've been probably eight years now. I've been doing it
- 38:44eight years.
- 38:45Speaker 3: And so is a bonsai tree, a regular tree that
- 38:50would grow big if you didn't fuck with it?
- 38:52Speaker 1: Yes. Yes.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Okay. And then you can get it to this incredible, beautiful,
- 38:56artistic shape. And it's small.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Yes.
- 39:00Speaker 3: It's what you're, you're.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Basically, you keep kind of dwarfing it and the, and
- 39:05everybody gets this confused. Um, and they just think uh
- 39:09bonsai is like that's the tree bonsai means tree and
- 39:15pot that's what that means actually it doesn't mean the
- 39:19actual bonsai tree it means tree and pot and how.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Long is the study of bonsai how long has the
- 39:25practice been around.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Dude i fuck i have no idea and you and
- 39:30you find that other parts of the world now that
- 39:32you get into it i mean there's in taiwan and
- 39:36china there are some fucking insane bonsai and i think
- 39:40it actually originated in china and the japanese took it
- 39:43and altered it in ways and did it their, sort
- 39:47of their version. But I think it originated in China,
- 39:49if I'm not mistaken. Something like that, yeah.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Sixth century China and they brought it back.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Ah, see, look at that.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Bam. Fuck, dude.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Wow. Fucking Wiki Lee over here.
- 40:02Speaker 3: So don't you have a tree that's 300 years old?
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yes, I do. Over 300. Wow. I have two of
- 40:09them that are over 300 years old.
- 40:11Speaker 3: So someone was working on them over 300 years ago.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Well, either that or it was collected maybe 100 years ago.
- 40:21And then over that time, it's just constantly been cut
- 40:25back and cut back.
- 40:27Speaker 3: But it's a part of a tree that's 300 years ago.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Yeah. It's still– it's the same tree.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:33Speaker 1: But it's just– it's never been– It's always getting its
- 40:38roots cut.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Is that it? Is that your tree, the 300-year-old tree?
- 40:41Speaker 1: No, no, no. That's just a small juniper that I have.
- 40:46It's beautiful. The 300-year-old one is a redwood. It's a
- 40:51fucking trunk on it. It's like this, and it's smashed
- 40:55into a pot about this big.
- 40:57Speaker 3: That seems rude.
- 40:58Speaker 1: It's about that big.
- 41:00Speaker 3: For a redwood, that seems rude. If you go to
- 41:03Northern California and you go to the redwood forest, it's hot.
- 41:08Those things are wild.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Insane.
- 41:10Speaker 3: That redwood forest is so incredible. There's the one that
- 41:13you drive through.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes.
- 41:16Speaker 3: They cut a hole in it in like the 1920s
- 41:18or whatever. It's really fucked. I can't believe they did that.
- 41:21But the tree's still alive, and you drive through the tree.
- 41:25It's so crazy.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that one I showed not too long ago in
- 41:31an exhibition.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Oh, so you go to bonsai shows.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I just started entering some of my trees that
- 41:39I've been working on. I've done two so far. Just now,
- 41:43like just this year, entered a couple of trees.
- 41:46Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 41:47Speaker 1: The rest of these other seven years or eight years
- 41:50of practicing is just learning, you know.
- 41:53Speaker 3: What a cool hobby.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fucking rad, dude. It really is.
- 41:56Speaker 3: It's also like the complete opposite of being a rock star. Totally.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Totally.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Like, what a great balancing tool.
- 42:05Speaker 1: You know? I know, man. It's interesting because a lot of,
- 42:09you know, my peers, musical buddies, like, all of them
- 42:14are super interested. They're like, dude, what's up with the bonsai? Like,
- 42:19they're curious. They want to know. Yeah. Because maybe they've
- 42:22seen me, you know, maybe change a little bit over
- 42:25the years or they've seen how much joy it fucking
- 42:28brings me. Yeah. And I think I want some of that.
- 42:31I'm not sure.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Well, there's something about, like, a zen garden that you
- 42:35associate with, like, bonsai and peacefulness and clarity.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:39Speaker 3: You know, just peace of mind.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Just clean mind. Like, your mind is pure. You're, like,
- 42:46you're really in the moment rather than just being a
- 42:49fucking mess ordering Uber Eats. You know what I mean?
- 42:53Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Like, there's something... that's very spiritually attractive to people about the,
- 42:58those practices.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Yes. And, and, and that's it too. It really has
- 43:02a lot to do with sort of the, the, the
- 43:06culture of all of it. Like when you start going
- 43:08down that hole about design and all that stuff, you
- 43:12start to, you start to realize that everything that at
- 43:16least the Japanese, um, do is with such fucking purpose.
- 43:21Like you'll notice, you know, and I didn't notice this
- 43:24stuff until later. I was like, Oh, I get it now.
- 43:27There's serious rules about how they build a Zen garden.
- 43:32You'll never find a straight path ever. I don't care
- 43:37how far you look. You'll never find a straight path
- 43:40going through a Zen garden. They specifically and strategically curve
- 43:46the path To slow you down. As soon as you
- 43:51walk into a garden, the number one objective is to
- 43:57get you to slow the fuck down. And there's no
- 44:01straight path in everything. Nothing becomes revealed to you until
- 44:07you come around that corner. So you're always, even if
- 44:11you're going across a lake or a pond, there's never
- 44:15a straight very rarely a straight bridge it's either arced
- 44:20or the bridge zigzags across there's never a straight line
- 44:27and what that's how that's what that's meant to do
- 44:30is get you to stop at each corner and look
- 44:34out and just take take it in and fucking be
- 44:36present and that's to me it's like that's the deeper
- 44:42meaning of all this for me. It's really got me
- 44:44to slow the fuck down because everything is just kind
- 44:47of all the time. So, you know, that it's just,
- 44:57I get to, I don't know how to explain it.
- 44:58Sometimes it's hard to explain that state, but that's what I,
- 45:02that's what I get from it. And every day, it's
- 45:04the best way to start, start your day, man. It
- 45:07can only, Get fucking amazing after that because you kind
- 45:12of set yourself up for having a fucking super rad day.
- 45:16Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Like, I'm good.
- 45:20Let's go. Right.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Well, it makes sense. I mean, there's something about those
- 45:23Zen gardens that's so attractive to people.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 3: It's obvious there's something going on with that design, with
- 45:29that flow of nature and the way it's artistically pieced together.
- 45:33It's very exciting to people.
- 45:35Speaker 1: And you see it, man. I don't know if you've noticed.
- 45:38You had to notice. You see it in a lot
- 45:40of the, like, newer architecture. A lot of fucking designs
- 45:44and homes are being built with that sort of very
- 45:48minimal Japanese flavor that is just meant to have your
- 45:54home be a peaceful place and not like a fucking
- 45:57museum or this or that. Like, it's really... Yeah.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's more peaceful. Yes. Like, in the actual design
- 46:06itself versus, like, Some house with big, giant-ass fucking windows
- 46:10overlooking the big city and fucking rocks everywhere. And like, oh,
- 46:15slow down.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And I've had that. I've done that before
- 46:19with the house on the top of the hill with
- 46:21the views. I mean, the view is just kind of
- 46:23a view. It doesn't really do anything. It's very different
- 46:26than having a beautiful, winding sanctuary to cruise through.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I think nature is very therapeutic and if you can
- 46:38put nature in an artistic form like a zen garden,
- 46:41it's very therapeutic. That's a way better view. The view
- 46:45of nature is always a way– look, whenever I go
- 46:48to New York City and I'm staying in a hotel
- 46:50and I'm in the middle and you'll see all the
- 46:52buildings like, wow, this is crazy in the center of it.
- 46:54This is fucking dope. But I don't want to live there.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 46:58Speaker 3: I like to visit. I don't think it's good for
- 47:01me at least. I don't think it's good for my
- 47:02headspace to live there. I like to see trees. I
- 47:06like to see nature. I like to see green. I
- 47:08like to see things that are alive. That makes me
- 47:10feel better.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Yeah. It's funny, dude. I tell people, I think I
- 47:14was a fucking tree like in a past life because
- 47:19I'm like maybe you were a tree too. I'm like you.
- 47:21I don't know if you're like this gnarly about it,
- 47:25but every time I go into a city, the first
- 47:29thing I look at is the trees. Like, whether it's
- 47:35a big city or wherever, I'll find the tree because
- 47:37that's the first thing I'm looking for. I don't look
- 47:40at the buildings. I don't look, you know, up or down.
- 47:44I'm always, like, looking for the tree. Yeah. It's just,
- 47:49I don't know, man.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Well, human beings are very connected to plants. We're very
- 47:52connected to nature, period. It's one of the most brilliant
- 47:55things that the designers of New York City did is
- 47:57make Central Park. Have that giant park. It's an enormous
- 48:02park in the center of the city. I was staying
- 48:04at a hotel last year and it was like on
- 48:05the edge of the park and like from the window
- 48:07you look out, you see the whole park like straight.
- 48:10This is fucking incredible that they did that because it's
- 48:13so big and it's just trees. It's just trees and
- 48:17paths and little lakes and everything and go wander around. Like, hey,
- 48:21get the fuck out of these buildings for a while.
- 48:23And it's like for a person living in New York City,
- 48:26having that right there in the center of the city.
- 48:29It is gigantic. I don't know what percentage of people
- 48:31take advantage of it, but they should all. It would
- 48:34make them all better.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:35Speaker 3: It would all feel better.
- 48:36Speaker 1: It's a little center retreat, man.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Oh, an amazing one. Yeah. It's fucking huge. Like, how
- 48:41many acres is Central Park? Let's find that out. Let's guess.
- 48:46I'm going to guess 1,000 acres. If I had to guess,
- 48:52maybe 2,000 acres. How big is it?
- 48:54Speaker 1: 843. Yeah. 843 acres.
- 48:59Speaker 3: So it's this amazing, huge park in the center of
- 49:03the biggest city in the world. And you see all
- 49:05these giant, crazy fucking buildings and then none of them
- 49:09in the center. It's beautiful.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Fucking props to those people or whoever that didn't sell
- 49:15that space.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Because how many fucking vampires are trying to take over
- 49:19that and put a big... shitty-ass building in the middle
- 49:21of it? We don't need 800 acres. 500 acres is plenty.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Plenty, plenty, plenty.
- 49:27Speaker 3: We'll just make those 500 acres even better, and no
- 49:29one's going to complain.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Put a whole bunch of money in there. Yeah, hats
- 49:33off to whoever.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Feed the homeless and whatever we're going to do.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Whoever held that down.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Good for them, man. They've lost a few parks. That's
- 49:39one of our shows that we do with Ari Shaffir,
- 49:42Shane Gillis, and Mark Norman is Protect Our Parks. Oh.
- 49:45But we're not really protecting parks. We're just getting drunk
- 49:48and talking shit. But it's called Protect Our Parks because
- 49:51Ari on one of the early episodes was ranting and
- 49:54raving about they're going to fucking take down this park
- 49:57and turn it into apartment buildings. And they wound up
- 49:59doing it. They killed the park.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 50:03Speaker 3: They just want to suck out all the trees and
- 50:05just make money, these dirty bitches.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Oh, man. Pretty soon everybody's going to have no place
- 50:10to go, man. Yeah.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Well, I think Central Park is safe, and that's the
- 50:14greatest park in the world. Yeah. It really is. The
- 50:16greatest park in any city in the world.
- 50:18Speaker 1: It's so crazy you mentioned that because on the way
- 50:20here I was flicking through Instagram and I saw– sorry.
- 50:26that this happened, some dude got killed. One of the
- 50:31horses took, you know, the horse and buggy thing, just
- 50:35fucking launched. And you see the dude, the horse flips
- 50:39the cart. Oh, no. And the dude gets flung out,
- 50:44and then he dies. He died on the way to
- 50:45the hospital.
- 50:46Speaker 3: Why did the horse freak out? Do we know what happened?
- 50:50Speaker 1: I don't. It didn't show it. It just showed, like,
- 50:53somebody else has had footage of it, like, just... The
- 50:56horse freaking out. Oh, shit. And then peeling out and
- 50:59you'd see the thing flip over and you're like, oh, man, dude.
- 51:02Speaker 3: You know, I love horses and I'm not a fan
- 51:05of horses walking around the city. I think it's fucked.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 3: I get that people think it's romantic to ride on
- 51:10the back of a buggy with a horse. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:14Speaker 3: It's not right.
- 51:15Speaker 1: No.
- 51:15Speaker 3: A horse is supposed to be in the fucking fields
- 51:17and the mountains. A horse is supposed to be running
- 51:19around and eating grass.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Clicking around on the asphalt. I don't know, dude.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Fuck all that.
- 51:24Speaker 1: I don't like it.
- 51:25Speaker 3: It's just a gross touristy thing. I mean, it's cool
- 51:28to see them every now and then. I know cops
- 51:31like to use them when they're breaking up riots and shit,
- 51:34which is kind of crazy. But the reality is a
- 51:36horse is not supposed to be there. Just like a
- 51:38cow is not supposed to be there. If you had
- 51:39cows walking down the street, you'd be like, why the
- 51:41fuck is this cow here?
- 51:42Speaker 4: This was likely an accident because the driver, yeah, the driver,
- 51:47I guess they call him, wasn't in the.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Right spot, like left his seat.
- 51:51Speaker 1: What? What?
- 51:52Speaker 3: Yeah. He left his seat. They're never supposed to.
- 51:54Speaker 4: Leave their seats just to take maybe a photo of
- 51:56the passengers in the carriage. And when the family was
- 51:58climbing back in, the horse got spooked.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 52:02Speaker 4: It happened very fast.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Yeah, the driver's not in it. The driver's not in it, dude.
- 52:06It just peels out.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Oh, fuck, man.
- 52:10Speaker 1: And you see it just go and just make kind
- 52:13of a hard right, and the buggy.
- 52:15Speaker 3: Just flips over. I don't fuck with horses, man.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 52:20Speaker 3: I don't ride them. I've ridden a horse before. I
- 52:23don't like it.
- 52:25Speaker 1: Dude, same here. I've done it. I got my ass
- 52:28thrown off on, and I was like, I'm good. I'm cool.
- 52:32Speaker 3: It's just not good. I mean, look, if you're a
- 52:37cowboy and you're riding horses and everything, that's kind of
- 52:39a different thing.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Sure.
- 52:40Speaker 3: If you're doing it every day, that's a different thing.
- 52:42But for me, it's like, I don't need to ride them.
- 52:44I get it.
- 52:45Speaker 1: For entertainment purposes. Yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 3: It's like I went to Thailand and we rode elephants.
- 52:49We had to ride elephants. And the elephants don't mind
- 52:51because you establish a relationship with them first. You feed
- 52:55them sugar cane and you pet them and you hang
- 52:57out with them. They decide whether or not you're cool.
- 53:00And if you give them like peaceful, gentle, friendly energy,
- 53:02they're like, sure, come on up. They lift their leg
- 53:04up and you step on top of them and you
- 53:06climb on their back. And they gently take you through
- 53:08the jungle. But I'm like, I didn't need to do that.
- 53:11I could have just hung out with them. That would
- 53:12have been plenty cool. I'm happy just feeding them. I
- 53:15don't need to ride them.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Like King Chimp. King Chimp on the big-ass fucking elephant.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Look at me.
- 53:22Speaker 3: You know, it's very weird.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:24Speaker 3: It's weird. But, you know, people like it, and they're
- 53:28beautiful animals.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Oh, my God, they're beautiful.
- 53:31Speaker 3: I don't need to ride animals. I get it. People
- 53:33like to do it. I don't have a problem with
- 53:35people doing it, but it's not me.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I'd rather look at them.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I'm with you. Yeah.
- 53:40Speaker 3: But horses and people have like a crazy relationship. You know,
- 53:44people that have horses like they're bonded to that animal
- 53:48like no other animal.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I know a few that are just like
- 53:53horse whisperer kind of shit where you're like, whoa, this
- 53:57is this is some next level love.
- 54:00Speaker 3: Yeah, they do a lot of– there's a therapy with
- 54:02that too. They do incline therapy for a lot of people.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I did that one time.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Did you?
- 54:07Speaker 1: At a rehab. They took us to have like a
- 54:10couple of days just with horses and it was cool, man.
- 54:14I get it.
- 54:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:15Speaker 1: I get it.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Well, again, it's like just like the trees in the forest.
- 54:18It's like something peaceful about horses.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:21Speaker 3: You know?
- 54:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Most of the time, especially if they're broken, they're pretty chill.
- 54:25They just want to hang out.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:27Speaker 3: You can come up and pet them, and they like it,
- 54:29and it's like, wow.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Like, whoa. Yeah.
- 54:33Speaker 3: Puts you in check.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Their big-ass teeth freak me out. When you're feeding them,
- 54:37you're like, you don't want to get your fingers in there, dude.
- 54:39Speaker 3: People have been bitten by them, too.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Chompers.
- 54:41Speaker 3: If someone's a dick, you get a horse annoyed, and
- 54:44they bite you.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Like, bro. Oh, dude. Yeah. That's got a fucking.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Can you imagine? All that jaw power?
- 54:51Speaker 1: Dude.
- 54:51Speaker 3: The size of their fucking head?
- 54:52Speaker 1: Yeah. Just....
- 54:55Speaker 3: Clamping down on your hand. Fuck you. I want a carrot, bitch.
- 55:00Give me the fucking carrot.
- 55:06Speaker 1: That's so rad. You can smoke in here.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Yes, I can. Yeah, I smoke cigars.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Of course.
- 55:11Speaker 3: I'll fire up with you.
- 55:12Speaker 1: All right. How long.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Have you been smoking?
- 55:19Speaker 1: God. Forever.
- 55:21Speaker 3: You ever try to quit?
- 55:23Speaker 1: I have, and I quit for, ah, this was a
- 55:26few years ago. I quit for like, fuck, I almost
- 55:33made it a year. And then I was like, God, I.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Feel like after a few months you're out of the woods.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh, it, I don't know. It just didn't, it
- 55:42didn't last. It just didn't fucking last, man.
- 55:45Speaker 3: What brought you back?
- 55:47Speaker 1: Um, you know what? It's, Probably because I was drinking
- 55:54at the time. Like, they kind of go hand in hand.
- 55:57If you're having a cocktail or a beer or whatever,
- 55:59you're having a smoke. Chances are. And I don't know, man.
- 56:05You're sitting there and you're having a drink and you're like,
- 56:08where's the cigarette? It's just, I don't know. It's like
- 56:11rock and roll. They just go together for some reason.
- 56:14So I failed.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Well, why did you quit originally? What was the thought
- 56:20behind it?
- 56:21Speaker 4: Um....
- 56:26Speaker 1: I think I was just trying to quit fucking everything.
- 56:29You know, you're just like, ah, that's it.
- 56:31Speaker 3: Fuck everything.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I'm just going to take a break and fucking hit
- 56:34the reset button on everything. I think I was going
- 56:37through that phase because I had never tried that. Tried
- 56:42everything else but nothing. And, yeah, I don't know, man.
- 56:49Speaker 3: It's the last vice of a lot of people in recovery.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And then you, and you got, and then, you know,
- 56:54you got guys like Keith Richards, who's just ripping cigarettes still.
- 56:57And I'm like, he's fine. And like, I've, I've gotten,
- 57:03I've gotten my fucking, my lungs and done the whole
- 57:07like prenuvo, but like body scan to see all your shit.
- 57:12And they're like, you're good. I'm like, Are you sure? Wait,
- 57:17let me see the paperwork. Is this a different Lee's
- 57:23or a different guy? Because that's fucking impossible. They're like,
- 57:28you're good. I was like, all right. So there's really
- 57:33no reason to quit.
- 57:34Speaker 3: Well, it's actually a very small percentage of people. Well,
- 57:38first of all. It's a very small percentage of people
- 57:41that get lung cancer out of the general population. And
- 57:44then when you add in cigarette smokers, it's a small
- 57:48percentage of cigarette smokers that get lung cancer. But more
- 57:53cigarette smokers get lung cancer than regular people. And so
- 57:57that's why when you look at the percentage of people
- 58:00that get lung cancer that smoke cigarettes, that's why it
- 58:03looks so high. So let's find the numbers. Put it
- 58:07into perplexity, please.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 58:09Speaker 3: Let's– what percentage of cigarette smokers get lung cancer? And
- 58:15I think it's less than 5 percent. I think it's
- 58:18a very small number. And then you got to think
- 58:20people that are smoking cigarettes, how many of them are
- 58:22smoking two, three packs a day?
- 58:25Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That's crazy. I don't know.
- 58:26Speaker 3: And how many of them are smoking just a few
- 58:28cigarettes a day? I bet a lot. I bet a
- 58:31lot of people that are a little hesitant, they only
- 58:33smoke like a half a pack or a little bit less.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:36Speaker 3: So what does it say, Jamie? I don't know. it's
- 58:40still calculating. Oh, sorry.
- 58:44Speaker 1: And isn't there something about like nicotine? Like when COVID happened,
- 58:48they were like, if you're a smoker, you're good. And
- 58:50I never got fucking COVID.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Yes.
- 58:53Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, nicotine.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Well, there's something about smoking cigarettes. It's supposed to be
- 58:57like really good to prevent COVID. And it's really confusing.
- 59:01Speaker 1: So crazy.
- 59:02Speaker 3: Yeah. 10 to 20% of people who smoke at some
- 59:05point in their lives will develop lung cancer. with many
- 59:08studies landing about 15 percent. I thought it was a
- 59:10lot less than that. Large study estimates that 15 out
- 59:13of 100 current smokers will get lung cancer over there.
- 59:16But that's estimated from a study. Another analysis found roughly
- 59:21one in seven current smokers develop blood cancer. People who
- 59:26never smoke have a one to two percent chance. Or
- 59:29a lifetime risk of lung cancer. Wow. Yeah, people who
- 59:32never smoke. Overall, only a minority of smokers get lung cancer.
- 59:37But smoking still causes about 80% to 9% of the
- 59:40lung cancer deaths. Oh, this is something we talked about yesterday, Jamie,
- 59:43that we forgot to look up. There's some sort of
- 59:47a study that's connecting people that live in Europe that
- 59:50have high polyphenol diets. So they use a lot of
- 59:55olive oil. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And olive oil seems
- 59:58to protect– it's a very controversial statement because people think, oh,
- 1:00:02my god, you're promoting cigarettes. I don't think they're promoting cigarettes.
- 1:00:05They're just looking at data that these people that have
- 1:00:08high olive oil content in their diets seem to not
- 1:00:12have any problems with cigarettes or not have nearly as
- 1:00:14many problems.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Yeah, which makes sense because– Olive oil is so good
- 1:00:19for you. You got to think it's got to balance
- 1:00:21out a lot of the free radicals and bullshit that
- 1:00:23you're getting from life. It makes sense that it would
- 1:00:26apply to smoking as well.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Totally. Yeah.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: So smoke them if you got them.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Fucking A, dude.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Get some extra virgin olive oil. Let's fucking go.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: Dip them.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Dip them like sherm. Have you ever tried sherm?
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: A long time ago.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: Did you? Whoa.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Yeah, fucking high school days, man.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: People in Europe who eat high polyphenol diets but smoke
- 1:00:51still face the full, very high health risks of smoking.
- 1:00:54Diet cannot cancel out cigarette damage. It can only modestly
- 1:00:58improve overall risk markers. But there was an article that
- 1:01:02I had read that they were connecting it. They were
- 1:01:05talking about Europeans. Yeah, here it is. Especially Mediterranean-rich plant
- 1:01:10diets consume substantial polyphenols from fruits Vegetables and whole grains, tea,
- 1:01:14olive oil, and wine. Polyphenol intake is linked to better
- 1:01:19cardiovascular risk profiles and lower long-term heart disease risk and
- 1:01:23overall mortality in observational studies. Because that's the other thing
- 1:01:28about cigarettes. It's not just cancer. It's also heart disease.
- 1:01:32And so polyphenols have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effects. But current
- 1:01:38evidence does not show they can neutralize the cardiovascular cancer
- 1:01:41or lung damage risk from smoking. What it means for smokers. Haters.
- 1:01:52You have to have some vices. Most of the people
- 1:01:54I know that are in Alcoholics Anonymous, they fucking drink
- 1:01:56coffee every day and they smoke cigarettes.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Big percentage of them.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Ripping cigarettes.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Because it gets you a little high.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Yeah. But it's like a very.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: manageable high yeah like the cigarette high is like oh.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I'm all right yeah it's just like a little lightheaded.
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: Yeah okay but also like good for cognitive function you
- 1:02:15know oh like you know pink floyd when they wrote
- 1:02:18the wall they were high as fuck on cigarettes those
- 1:02:21guys smoke cigarettes all day long what yeah yeah those
- 1:02:24dudes smoked a ton of cigarettes.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Get out of here yeah is that coffee dude get
- 1:02:28in there fuck yeah thank you bro my pleasure yeah.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: Yeah Tony Hinchcliffe told me that, and he's a giant
- 1:02:35cigarette fan. Stephen King said that too. When he stopped
- 1:02:40smoking cigarettes, it affected his writing.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Oh, whoa.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he said his synapses just didn't fire as fast anymore.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: It's like that was one of the things that I
- 1:02:48really noticed when I quit smoking.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: That's wild. Yeah. Huh.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: Doesn't that make sense though?
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it does. I remember quitting for a short time there.
- 1:03:00I remember everything tasting better. I'm sure. Oh, shit. Yeah,
- 1:03:04like everything you just tasted better.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Of course.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Pounding a cigarette immediately following every single meal or drink.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: It's got to numb the inside of your mouth in
- 1:03:15some way or dull your senses.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Something.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: You're caking it with smoke.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: Of course. Clog up the old taste receptors.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. Yeah.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: But a lot of creative people swear by cigarettes, man.
- 1:03:30I think there's some benefit to it.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Yeah, hopefully.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: No, I think there is. I think there's some cognitive benefit.
- 1:03:38There's just way too many, like, super creative people. And
- 1:03:41a lot of intelligent people, a lot of professors use tobacco.
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: David Gilmour says he never smoked cigarettes.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: David Gilmour. But didn't Roger Waters?
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: This, I think, goes on to say that some of
- 1:03:53the band did smoke cigarettes, but it's more about their
- 1:03:55marijuana and hashish smoking.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Than the tobaccos. So Tony Hinchcliffe spread misinformation, and here
- 1:04:02I am repeating it.
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: He could have been told, though.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure he was told. Well, Roger, we all
- 1:04:08did hang out with Roger that one night. That was
- 1:04:11pretty dope. We got to see Roger Waters live. He
- 1:04:14came on the podcast, we hung out, and then we
- 1:04:16went to see his concert. It was insane.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: It was insane.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I bet it was fucking rad.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Another legend was still like full power on stage. It's incredible.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: That's the best.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: The show was amazing. And it's like he has these
- 1:04:28enormous screens behind him. So the show is like, it's
- 1:04:31the music, but it's also these incredible visuals that you're
- 1:04:34watching while the music is playing.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: You know, and his is so politically loaded, so it's,
- 1:04:40you know, you see all this crazy shit, like, while
- 1:04:43he's singing these songs, like, when they're playing the wall,
- 1:04:45it's like, fuck.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember seeing one of those tours, I think,
- 1:04:49maybe it was, I don't know, but the wall is
- 1:04:51slowly building over the whole set. Yeah. It's fucking crazy.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: And when we went to see him, Ari was high
- 1:04:56as fuck on acid, and he's crying in the middle
- 1:04:58of the show. He's crying like a man, and he's weeping.
- 1:05:02It was fucking phenomenal. Oh, my God.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Dude. I don't know if I could handle that.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know either. Jesus. Like, get the fuck
- 1:05:12out of here with the acid. We're just going to
- 1:05:14go see the concert. I'm not doing that.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. Fuck. Around all those people, I'd probably, I
- 1:05:20don't know if that'd be.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: A good one. Probably not a good one, but Ari's
- 1:05:23an experienced passenger.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: He can ride some waves.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Good boy.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: He can ride some waves without throwing up. Do you
- 1:05:34ever look back and just say, God, it's a wonder
- 1:05:37I'm still alive.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Dude I told you earlier I pinch myself on a
- 1:05:42daily basis I really do that like I shouldn't technically
- 1:05:47be here right maybe you shouldn't I don't know who
- 1:05:52knows that we all got our our thing but oh
- 1:05:56man I'm really lucky to be here and I think
- 1:05:59it's because I want to be here like um you
- 1:06:02know what I mean like I like I want to
- 1:06:04be here like I want to fucking see I'm kind
- 1:06:07of pissed because I feel like we're not even close
- 1:06:12to where we should be. I mean, the year 2000,
- 1:06:16where's my fucking spaceship? Right. You know, like, where is that?
- 1:06:22It was supposed to be full Jetsons. Bro, they're extremely
- 1:06:27late or it's never going to happen.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: I think there's a real problem with people flying around.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: They lied.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: The problem with people flying around is you got to
- 1:06:36catch them.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: Whereas if they're on the street, just close off the
- 1:06:41street and then you catch them.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Right. Yeah.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: If people are flying around- Way too much freedom. Like
- 1:06:47if someone robs a bank and they go, and they
- 1:06:50just go off, like, no, no, no, no. You can't
- 1:06:53have that for everybody. You got to have people corral
- 1:06:56in nice- Like very clean lines.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Forms, lines.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: We can block these lines off. Very obvious paths.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Use lights to start and stop.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: Fly over them in helicopters. Put a spotlight down on them.
- 1:07:08So you follow them around. That's what people like. They
- 1:07:12don't like this idea of the jets and like that's not.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Fuck. I want that, dude. I want my own little.
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Well, they do have flying cars now.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I saw some of those. There's a couple. There's like
- 1:07:24one company called Jet One. It's like this little, looks
- 1:07:27like a little, it's like a one-man drone for helicopters.
- 1:07:30I'm like, me and my manager were always like, should
- 1:07:33we go fucking get a couple of these?
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: You don't want to die that way.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Let those things get worked out for a few years.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it probably needs a little bit more time for
- 1:07:41it to be soup.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Yeah, man, because, I mean, think about, like, how glitchy
- 1:07:45early cell phones were.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Dude, right.
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Let that shit get ironed out.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Let the eggheads... Work on that for a little bit.
- 1:07:55Polish it up nice.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that'd be cool.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Fix all the bugs.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: It's like, I don't know what happens when those things crash. Like,
- 1:08:02do you get a warning when they're about to die? Like,
- 1:08:04do they run out of batteries? Does it run out
- 1:08:07of gas? Is it allowed to run out of gas?
- 1:08:09Can you just be an asshole and just fly until
- 1:08:11you run out of gas and die?
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Or, you know.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Solar charging takeover.
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: I think I could make it home. Like, how many
- 1:08:17guys have done that in their cars? I think I
- 1:08:18could make it home. When I was in high school,
- 1:08:22my friend- Picked me up in his buddy's 1970 Chevelles.
- 1:08:25Fucking amazing Chevelles.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: Oh, nice.
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: So dope. And I remember he ran out of gas,
- 1:08:29and we coasted perfectly right to the gas station.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: No way.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Yeah. It was like we shut the car.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: We got out.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: I was like, that was amazing. Because, you know, we're 16.
- 1:08:39It ran out of gas at the pump. I was like,
- 1:08:42this is perfect.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: No pushing. No nothing.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: But if you're in one of them little drones and
- 1:08:48that shit goes on E. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Yeah. It's fucking... Parts. Yeah. Yeah, not good.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: Did you see that documentary that they did about that
- 1:09:02kid that stole a plane? He stole a plane. He
- 1:09:05was like working at an airport and he stole a plane.
- 1:09:08And hijacked it and then flew it and crashed it
- 1:09:11and died.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: But he's like having conversations with them.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Yeah, he's talking to them going like, I don't know
- 1:09:16what I'm doing, man. But, you know, this one's for the,
- 1:09:19I don't know.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: And they were just like, I could run it, dude.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: Well, they were trying to get him to land it.
- 1:09:26They were trying to get him to land it. But
- 1:09:27the reality was, like, no way he was going to
- 1:09:29figure out how to land that thing. He's a dead man.
- 1:09:32The moment he got off the ground, he's a dead man.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: And he just stole the plane. And there's a whole
- 1:09:37documentary about it. It's apparently very interesting.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Oh, wow. I don't, I have not seen the documentary,
- 1:09:43but I've seen clips of them trying to talk him,
- 1:09:46talk him down. And he just seemed like he wasn't,
- 1:09:50that wasn't an option. He just seemed like this.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: He was ready to wrap it up.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: He was taking this, this was this, that, that, that
- 1:09:57one flight. Yeah.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: Ready to wrap it up.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Hope your insurance covers this. Yeah. I think flying cars
- 1:10:06will probably be a thing one day. For 70 minutes,
- 1:10:09the world watched in disbelief as a stolen Horizon airplane
- 1:10:12soared over Puget Sound before crashing on a remote island.
- 1:10:16Now a new Hulu documentary reveals the man behind the
- 1:10:19controls and the quiet struggle that led him there.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Oh, I got to watch this. What's it called? Sky King.
- 1:10:25It's what?
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: Sky King, it's called.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Sky King.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: Poor dude.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Oh, damn. Well, at least they gave him a rad title.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: Yeah, well, the unfortunate thing is that might encourage other
- 1:10:37people to do it as well. People are very stupid.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Dude, people are stupid. I just released a song called
- 1:10:44Stupid World a couple weeks ago and that's exactly what
- 1:10:49that's about. It's literally we have gotten to a place
- 1:10:53where everything to me like we are at just epic
- 1:10:58stupid proportions where you're just like not a day goes
- 1:11:01by where I'm like that's fucking ridiculous. That's stupid. Like
- 1:11:05how stupid like How stupid can we get? Anyway, I
- 1:11:10wrote this track. It's called Stupid World.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: You live in L.A., which is one of the stupidest
- 1:11:14fucking places on Earth.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Dude, I know. It's fucking insane. And I'm doing the
- 1:11:21same thing, too. Why do I live here? I mean,
- 1:11:23I love it there. It's amazing. There's always in the
- 1:11:27back of my head is why?
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Look, it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
- 1:11:31The weather's perfect.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: Most of the people are very friendly. Most of the
- 1:11:35people are cool. It's like it's only a percentage of
- 1:11:38the people that suck. It's a large percentage, but it's
- 1:11:42only a percentage. The majority of the people are cool.
- 1:11:46The problem is it's like slowly becoming a new Detroit.
- 1:11:50It's like slowly the film business is like dried up.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Like completely dried up. Television, completely dried up. Late night TV,
- 1:12:00it's dried up, man. And that was fueling a giant.
- 1:12:04part of like what made LA special I know and
- 1:12:08it's just dried up man nobody has to be there
- 1:12:10anymore and they make it intolerable they make you seem
- 1:12:14like you have to be there so they just punish
- 1:12:17you with taxes and they punish you with regulations they
- 1:12:21punish you they make it everything very difficult to conduct
- 1:12:25business very difficult to be safe very difficult to just
- 1:12:29feel fucking normal yeah and they get surprised when people
- 1:12:32leave like what do you want yeah What do you
- 1:12:34think you're doing to that place? You guys can see
- 1:12:37the statistics. Stop fucking gaslighting the world.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: You guys fucked this place sideways and you want to
- 1:12:43keep doing it.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: And the weirdest thing is, you know, like, you know,
- 1:12:47you hear and you see, oh, man, fuck, a bunch
- 1:12:50of people are leaving L.A. And part of me is like, fuck, yes.
- 1:12:54Get the fuck out of here. There's too many people here.
- 1:12:56So go. But then I realize. Nothing's really changed, and
- 1:13:03I don't really notice that people have left. Traffic's still
- 1:13:07the same. A bunch of shit's exactly the same, and
- 1:13:11you tell me this many people left. I don't see it.
- 1:13:14And I wonder if that's not maybe a, I don't know,
- 1:13:19a hyped statistic.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not a scientific analysis. No, like the numbers
- 1:13:24are real. People have left L.A., but it doesn't matter.
- 1:13:27You could lose 5 million people, and L.A. is still
- 1:13:29too big. The traffic's bananas.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Dude, it's fucking retarded. It's bananas.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: If you want to go to Orange County at 4
- 1:13:38o'clock or shoot yourself, that's a real decision. Drive to
- 1:13:43Orange County at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, you're like,
- 1:13:45what the fuck am I doing with my life? This
- 1:13:47is crazy.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and don't even think about hitting the 405. No.
- 1:13:52At all. No.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: No, you're going to have to go some sideways.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: You're going to have to use ways to get there.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Yeah and even then you're.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: Fucked even then it's an hour and a half if
- 1:14:04you live in like Irvine and you commute to LA
- 1:14:06good god bless you dude god bless.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: You yeah how do you do it I don't know.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: People do it every day they just want to live
- 1:14:13in a place like Irvine real safe real nice yeah
- 1:14:16but I gotta work in LA fuck it I'll just
- 1:14:18drive in every day just.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Fucking just all fucking mad and just.
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: I would get up at 5 in the morning and
- 1:14:23just go to the gym that's what I would do
- 1:14:25I'd get up 5 in the morning drive to LA
- 1:14:27I'd get a membership in LA at the gym That
- 1:14:29way I'm driving with no traffic at least one way.
- 1:14:32At least getting there, I have no traffic.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: And then you deal with the home commute. Doing it
- 1:14:37both to and from, fuck you. Fuck you. I'm not
- 1:14:41doing that.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: It's too gnarly.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: I'd rather get up at 5 in the morning. I
- 1:14:47can't imagine even doing it once a day. But there's
- 1:14:49a lot of people that do three hours a day
- 1:14:52minimum in their car. And they really live 20 minutes away.
- 1:14:57If they didn't have traffic, they would be there in
- 1:14:5925 minutes.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Man, that's pretty crazy when you realize all we have
- 1:15:05here on this planet is time and you realize that
- 1:15:09kind of time you're wasting and you're never going to
- 1:15:14get back. And you're like, if I do this consecutively
- 1:15:18every single day, I wonder what– add that time up
- 1:15:22over whatever– however many years and I'll bet you people
- 1:15:28would freak the fuck out. Yeah.
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: You lost years.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I just lost years of my life in the fucking car. Yeah.
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: But the good thing is one thing that you can
- 1:15:38do in the car is listen to books on tape.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: And books on tape are amazing. And, you know, podcasts
- 1:15:44too for some people.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: But for me, it's a lot of it is books
- 1:15:48on tape because like you'll get lost in a book
- 1:15:51and it doesn't even really bother you that much. And the,
- 1:15:54one of the crazy, if you have a Tesla and,
- 1:15:56My Tesla does auto driving. So if I want to,
- 1:16:00if I'm leaving here and there's some crazy traffic for
- 1:16:03some reason, I just go, I just turn it on
- 1:16:07and it goes. I don't have to hit the blinkers.
- 1:16:10I don't have to change lanes. I don't have to
- 1:16:12stop at red lights. It does everything.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: De-stressed.
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: And all I have to do is just keep my
- 1:16:17fingers on the wheel. Just like this.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Oh, to make it look like you're awake.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: No, you're supposed to like stay in contact with the
- 1:16:23wheel and just keep your eyes on the road. But
- 1:16:25you don't have to think at all. You know, you
- 1:16:27can't do that. You're not supposed to do that. It
- 1:16:29probably would still work. I don't even know. What happens
- 1:16:31if you just go to sleep?
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: I think it shuts down after a second.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: Probably recognizes that you're doing that and shuts down. But
- 1:16:37the reality is, like, that as a stress decoupler, there's
- 1:16:41nothing like it.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Oh, man, the best.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: You just put your fingers on the wheel and just chill.
- 1:16:46And now all you're doing is sitting for an hour
- 1:16:48and a half instead of, like, constantly hitting the brakes,
- 1:16:50constantly hitting the gas, constantly hitting the brakes. Now you're
- 1:16:52just chilling and you can get to just, like, listen
- 1:16:55to your book on Banzai.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: No, that is nice, man. I don't know about you,
- 1:16:59but if I start reading a book, just your eyes
- 1:17:04focusing and reading, they get tired. You get more in
- 1:17:11listening to an auditory version of it rather than, for
- 1:17:15me at least, sort of eye-stressing on reading and doing
- 1:17:20all that. I get tired and then fucking lose interest.
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: Yeah, there's definitely something to that. Reading always makes me
- 1:17:28want to go to sleep.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: Especially reading at night helps me fall asleep.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: But there's also something about reading in your head because
- 1:17:37you create the voices and you create everything. Like you
- 1:17:41use your imagination when you're just reading that doesn't exist
- 1:17:45with books on tape.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: But with audio books, I don't have the time. So
- 1:17:50for me, it's a time thing. Like if I have
- 1:17:52a guest coming on and the guest is like an
- 1:17:54astrophysicist that has some very bizarre theory about something, like
- 1:17:57I need to absorb the information and I have a
- 1:18:00limited amount of time. So I listen to audio books
- 1:18:02in the gym. I listen to audio books in the
- 1:18:04sauna and I listen to it in the car on
- 1:18:07the way to work. And so that all together is
- 1:18:10a couple hours in a day. So I can do
- 1:18:12that and get a lot of information in where I
- 1:18:15wouldn't– I don't have the couple hours to sit down
- 1:18:18and just read. I just don't. I wish I did.
- 1:18:21I don't.
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: So I can still get all that data and that information,
- 1:18:25but I have to be very diligent about actually listening.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: That's the thing. Because especially at the gym, you can
- 1:18:32get a little just distracted, and you're like, what the
- 1:18:36fuck did he just say? And you have to back
- 1:18:37it up.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: When that happens, generally, I just shut it off. I'm like,
- 1:18:41this workout's too intense. I can't really pay attention.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Yeah. What do they say? Do what you're doing when
- 1:18:47you're doing it.
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: People... think they're multitasking.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: That doesn't fucking exist. You really, yeah, whatever.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: You're sort of multitasking, but you're robbing from Peter to
- 1:18:59pay Paul.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Thank you very much. Yeah.
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: You're taking away some of your attention on what you're
- 1:19:04doing to pay attention to this other thing, and it's
- 1:19:06definitely making you less good at either one of those things.
- 1:19:09And if one of them is very simple and it's
- 1:19:11like it doesn't matter, okay, you could be distracted. Right, right.
- 1:19:14But if it's two important things, you're robbing each important thing.
- 1:19:17You're robbing attention from these things.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: God.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: There it is. Yeah. There it is.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: Well, I've always found that like my best workouts are
- 1:19:25in silence. It's like you don't– it's so hard to
- 1:19:28work out. Like you really need to only be thinking
- 1:19:30about what you're doing.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: And if you add in a bunch of stuff– except music.
- 1:19:35Music is always fuel for workouts. That's different.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: But books– It's like music you can listen and then
- 1:19:40stop listening. You could be in the middle of the set.
- 1:19:42It doesn't distract you with lyrics. It just gives you
- 1:19:46some energy in the air. Music is the ultimate companion
- 1:19:49for working out.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt. No doubt.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: So much so that David Goggins doesn't use it because
- 1:19:54he says it's cheating. What?
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: He goes, it's cheating.
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: You know, because he's just a complete total psycho.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Is that that like.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: Ultramarathon guy? Yeah.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Oh, okay. I thought it was the Live Forever guy, the.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: Oh, no, no, no. That's Brian Johnson. That's the guy
- 1:20:10who like has his son's blood injected into him.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that dude. I'm sorry. I'm confusing this.
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: David Goggins is a totally different guy. He's the Navy
- 1:20:18SEAL who run– I think– how many ultra marathons did
- 1:20:22he run in a month? Something insane. He runs 100-mile
- 1:20:26races and he's like an insane fitness freak.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: And when he works out, he has– these workouts where
- 1:20:33like famously he'll take like professional fighters and they work
- 1:20:36out with them and they can't keep up and they're
- 1:20:37just throwing up and– I just can't believe how much
- 1:20:40this guy works. And he's doing it easy where he's
- 1:20:42just talking to them the entire time and they can't
- 1:20:44keep up. He finished eight 100-mile marathons in eight consecutive weekends.
- 1:20:50So he ran 800 miles in eight weekends. He's a nut. Fuck.
- 1:20:59He'll be at home and just decide, I'm going to
- 1:21:03do a 60-mile ruck right now. And just throws on
- 1:21:07a backpack. Gets outside and starts rucking. And he'll just
- 1:21:11do 60 miles. And so he'll go out there for
- 1:21:13hours and hours. Just decides, this is what I'm going
- 1:21:15to do, and I'm not stopping until I'm done. And
- 1:21:17he does it all the time.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: He's in insane shape. And he's 50. Wow. He's in insane.
- 1:21:22Good for him, man. He also has no knees. His
- 1:21:24knees are completely destroyed.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: All from pounding on.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: They're bone on bone. He's had a ton of operations.
- 1:21:29Doesn't care. Keeps going. On bone on bone. Like, it's
- 1:21:33just a maniac. It's a complete and total maniac, but
- 1:21:36he doesn't use music because he says it's cheating.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Wow. That's amazing. It's cheating.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: But that just shows you I like to cheat. I
- 1:21:45like to use that music. I need to cheat to
- 1:21:49get that energy extra. I mean, I can do it
- 1:21:51myself maybe, but why would I when I go.
- 1:21:57Give me that fucking music.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: If it's cheating, I'm going to cheat at that.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not cheating.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: I don't think of it as cheating.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: That's called inspiration.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: Yes, it's an awesome supplement. That's what I call it.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Supplement, there you go.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: But for him, it's all about mental strength, and so
- 1:22:13he considers it cheating. Use that mental strength. Your mental
- 1:22:17strength should be right from your brain. He goes, you
- 1:22:20can't always count on that music. That music's not always
- 1:22:22going to be there. I'm like, okay. I guess so.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: He kind of has a.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: I get it.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Do what you're doing.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: For what he does, he kind of has a point.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I could see that. He's focusing. He's focusing. Yeah.
- 1:22:36No distractions.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: Yeah, he says he's gaining knowledge. He says, I'm gaining knowledge.
- 1:22:41I'm acquiring knowledge.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I believe him.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: I believe him because he's thinking he's going into the
- 1:22:46dark realms of his mind.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: Whoa, dude.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: Intense suffering, running 100-mile races eight weekends in a row.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: He's doing some serious other work while he's running.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: That's the real deep introspective work. You want to find
- 1:23:00out who you really are? Run eight 100-mile races in
- 1:23:04eight weeks.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: Imagine those conversations you're having with yourself. What the fuck
- 1:23:08am I doing? No, dude, you got this. You got this. No, dude,
- 1:23:11you're an idiot. No, bro. Fuck yes.
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: I think he probably used to have those conversations. Now
- 1:23:18it's just battling demons. It's all just demons just crushing
- 1:23:22down negative thoughts, crushing down weakness, you know?
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: I know. Fuck.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: There's a lot of different kinds of people in this world, Tommy.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Yeah, there are, dude. It's pretty crazy out there.
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: And I bet you've met every variety of them.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Just about. Oh, my God. That's funny. Wow. I know.
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: There's some crazy people in this world.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: Yeah, there is.
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: But we need all of them. We need our Tommy Lees.
- 1:23:48We need our David Lee Ross. We need our David Goggins.
- 1:23:53We need all those people. That's what makes the world
- 1:23:55beautiful is that there are so many different people. You
- 1:23:58can meet someone and you're like, fuck, I never met
- 1:23:59a guy like him. That's nuts.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Yeah. It is wonderful. Isn't it wonderful?
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: I mean, you must have met every fucking human being
- 1:24:06that's ever lived, practically.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Dude, I feel like it. Just about.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: I mean, you've been famous since what year? Like, what
- 1:24:17year did Motley Crue really break out?
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: 80.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: 80. That's nuts.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: Boy, that world was a different place.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: Bro!
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: The world was a different place. No internet.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: No, no cell phones.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: Who was president in 1980? Was that even Reagan yet?
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Almost.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: When did Reagan become president?
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Yeah, fuck.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: Reagan was president when I was in high school.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Who the fuck was president?
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: That was in the 80s. What year, Jamie? Started in 81. 81. So, 1980,
- 1:24:55Reagan wasn't even president yet.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Fuck, who was president?
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: Had to be Jimmy Carter, right? Yeah.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: That sounds right.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: Wasn't it Jimmy Carter before Reagan?
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: So it was Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Whoa, dude.
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: Wow. Isn't that nuts?
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: 1980. What was that scene like?
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Bro, that was still to this day. Motley did this
- 1:25:25movie called The Dirt, and it's based on our autobiography. From,
- 1:25:32you know, certain years from this year to this year.
- 1:25:35And it kind of like it shows how it fucking was.
- 1:25:41And one of the coolest things ever is when, you know,
- 1:25:45I'll see, you know, emails from fans or questions from fans.
- 1:25:50And they're like, dude, was it? And these are from like,
- 1:25:55you know, 18 year old kids are like, was it
- 1:25:58really like that? When you guys were rocking shit like that?
- 1:26:03I was like, 100%. They're like, fuck. And they're bummed.
- 1:26:11They're like, we will never, ever get to experience that. Fuck.
- 1:26:18It was just full on until the wheels fall off.
- 1:26:23You could get away with fucking murder. Literally. There was
- 1:26:27no phones and no... This was... at a time where
- 1:26:33anything goes. Pretty much.
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: How old were you in 1980?
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: In 1980, I was 18.
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: Jesus Christ.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: 18, 17.
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: So you're blowing up at 18 years old. How the
- 1:26:53fuck did you manage?
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I know, dude.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: Look at that picture. That's crazy. That looks like a
- 1:26:59picture from like 1940. Right? It's another world.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: Even the font from Motley Crue looks ancient.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Totally. Wow. God, dude.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: Does that even seem real when you look at that picture?
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Look at our fucking little cheesy cloth backdrop. The wrinkles
- 1:27:21in the fabric. That's the whiskey.
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: Too fast for love. Fucking great song.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: And that fucking drum riser. That... Right there, with the
- 1:27:31lights in it and stuff? Yeah. My dad fucking, and
- 1:27:36my dad, myself, and my drum tech, we built that riser, dude. Like,
- 1:27:41it had fucking switches. My dad was a mechanic. And
- 1:27:46so my dad built, he, you know, he was like,
- 1:27:49you need a drum riser? All right, let's go. I mean, dude,
- 1:27:53he would, my dad would, built us pyro. Fucking he
- 1:28:00drilled out these or cut these big blocks of wood,
- 1:28:06ran electrical prongs up through the wood. And then you
- 1:28:10take a little small wire and you connect the tube,
- 1:28:14put a pipe over it, fill it with gunpowder. And
- 1:28:17we'd be out in my backyard, dude. And the neighbors
- 1:28:19would be all of a sudden just like, fire! Fire!
- 1:28:24There's these fucking mushroom clouds in my backyard. And the
- 1:28:28neighbors are like, what the fuck is going on? And
- 1:28:31my dad, he loved it. He's making bombs, lighting rigs,
- 1:28:35drum risers. And then he would drive me, he would
- 1:28:39drive me to the gigs and, uh, in his van
- 1:28:43with all my shit. Like I had the best dad
- 1:28:45fucking ever. That's awesome. Yeah. And here, here's a mechanic. Okay.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: Look at this fucking setup, bro. This is nuts.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: Oh dude. Right.
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: The hamster wheel.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: That is crazy.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's nuts.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: Bro, you were doing drums like halfway upside down.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Dude, the thing was gyroscoped. It went around, you know,
- 1:29:05right to left, back to front.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: What is it like trying to play the drums from
- 1:29:09that position, though? That's got to be very weird.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: Dude, it is insane. Like, I had to change so
- 1:29:17many dynamics. Like, think about it. Instead of gravity pulling
- 1:29:24your hand down, right? Right. Now you've got to push. Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:30You're upside down. So it becomes three times harder physically.
- 1:29:35And also you had to make adjustments. So I don't
- 1:29:39know how much you know about drums, but on your pedals,
- 1:29:42they're foot pedals for your bass drums, right? Well, and
- 1:29:45those are chain-driven pedals, footboards. So when you go upside down,
- 1:29:52they fall, right? So I had to put springs underneath
- 1:29:56the pedals to keep them taut so they would stay up.
- 1:30:00You know what I'm saying?
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: So I had– and with cymbals, they're meant to hang
- 1:30:06a certain way. They're not meant to hang upside down.
- 1:30:09So I had to make all these crazy adjustments technically
- 1:30:12to pull it off. But we figured it out with
- 1:30:15the hi-hat too because the hi-hat would– the two cymbals,
- 1:30:20they would just– if you're upside down, they just– They
- 1:30:23just go open.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: So I had to do another spring as well to
- 1:30:28keep that closed so I could manually drive it. It's
- 1:30:31all this crazy shit.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: Why did you decide to do that? Like, what was it?
- 1:30:35Just something rad?
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: You know what? That all started. And it's kind of
- 1:30:40been my thing throughout history. And every year I do
- 1:30:44something fucking different and crazier. Of course, everybody's like, what
- 1:30:47are you going to do next year? What are you
- 1:30:48going to do next year? That's sort of like. That's
- 1:30:52where it all started, and it really started when I
- 1:30:55went to go see, it was fucking Pat Travers. Do
- 1:31:02you remember Pat Travers' band? No. Boom, boom, out go
- 1:31:05the lights.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. Yeah, anyway, they were cool, and I went
- 1:31:09to go see them, and Tommy Aldrich was the drummer.
- 1:31:13And this is before Motley. I'm just like, whoa, dude.
- 1:31:17I'm like a fucking kid standing on the chair. Fuck, yeah. Right?
- 1:31:22And it's drum solo time. And he's a badass. And
- 1:31:26he's fucking ripping, dude. All you see is sticks flying
- 1:31:30and hair fucking going. He's shredding. And I'm looking around.
- 1:31:33And I'm watching people go get a beer. People going
- 1:31:38to pee. Going to get a t-shirt. Going out to
- 1:31:41the lobby to fucking smoke a joint. I don't know, whatever.
- 1:31:44Everybody's kind of leaving. And I'm like, where the fuck
- 1:31:48is everybody going? That guy is murdering. the fucking drums
- 1:31:52right now. And y'all are like, he failed to capture
- 1:31:56their attention. And from that moment on, I went, I
- 1:32:00need to figure out a, how to give the audience
- 1:32:04a better view of what you're actually doing there because
- 1:32:08people can't see. It's not like a guitar where you can,
- 1:32:11you can see. Oh, that's the roller coaster. That's the crucify, dude.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: That's so dope.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: That's the latest one. That thing went from the front
- 1:32:22all the way to the back of the fucking arena
- 1:32:25or stadium.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: That's crazy, dude.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: And then it starts twirling as it's going down.
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: Oh, my God. You're upside down. That's so sick. Look
- 1:32:35at that, dude. That is so sick. The audience must
- 1:32:39go bananas.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Yeah. At one point, the roller coaster comes down, and
- 1:32:43it's literally almost over. They could almost touch you.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Look at that shit, dude. I think that is the worst.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: How do you not get a crazy head rush when
- 1:32:51you're upside down banging on the drums?
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Dude, it is so gnarly. I'm wrecked. It's nine minutes total.
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: Must do a lot for your core, too, right?
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Hold yourself. Dude, I'm on the oxygen bottle. When I finish,
- 1:33:07I go all the way out and then I do
- 1:33:08it all backwards.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: Whoa.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: I go back and do it backwards. And by the
- 1:33:12time I get done, I'm sitting there with the oxygen
- 1:33:15going while Mick does a guitar solo. I need a
- 1:33:20couple seconds because I am fucking done.
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: I can imagine, man. It's incredible cardio. It's insane. It's
- 1:33:27like shadow boxing for minutes at a time. Hardcore, super fast.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: I've always admired the physical fitness. Yeah.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Just constantly. And you know what that's like, man. After
- 1:33:38a fucking minute of that, you're like, I know.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: The physical fitness involved in playing drums must be really crazy.
- 1:33:44If you didn't play drums for a few years and
- 1:33:46then picked it up again and started again, it'd probably
- 1:33:48take forever to get that endurance back.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: Forever, dude.
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: When you're going off, dude, you're so fast. It's so fast.
- 1:34:00Everything's fucking moving. You're pounding your feet and everything. Fuck, man.
- 1:34:05It's one of the most athletic things in all of music.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: It really is, man. I had this I was like, okay,
- 1:34:12how come I've weighed the same weight since fucking high
- 1:34:18school till today?
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: And I'm like, that's fucking weird. And I eat kind
- 1:34:23of whatever the fuck I want to eat. Like, I don't,
- 1:34:25there's no, I don't like diet or have some strict,
- 1:34:30you know, regimented food program. I was like, I'm going
- 1:34:34to fucking, I got to see. I got one of those.
- 1:34:38this was years ago. It was like a pedometer. You
- 1:34:40clip onto your shoe, like joggers would use it to
- 1:34:43see how it was like the old version. You just
- 1:34:45clipped it on your, on your shoe. And it tells
- 1:34:48you how many miles you did like a little tachometer,
- 1:34:52not a tachometer.
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: I know. Yeah. So I'm like, I get one, I
- 1:34:57clip it on. I'm like, I'm wondering what, how many
- 1:35:01fucking miles I'm doing after a two hour show. I
- 1:35:05don't know. Fuck. Who knows? I know I'm sweaty as
- 1:35:08fuck and I'm– after the show, all I hear is
- 1:35:12ringing in my ear and I'm fucking– Wrecked. I'm wrecked.
- 1:35:16I'm done. And I fucking took it off after the
- 1:35:21show and I looked down and it said 13.3 miles.
- 1:35:25And I was like– so that's why I don't fucking–
- 1:35:29that's why I'm just skinny fuck and like I just–
- 1:35:33I'd sweat it out.
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: Well, Travis Barker, same deal.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Same deal.
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he works out a lot as well,
- 1:35:38but it's like same deal.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: It's like incredible amounts of cardio. The amount of, I
- 1:35:43wonder how many calories you burn in a two-hour show.
- 1:35:45It's got to be off the charts.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that I haven't measured.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Because it's not just jogging. It's not like you're running
- 1:35:5013 miles. Obviously, you're sitting still. But the pounding of
- 1:35:53the arms.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: Yes, yeah.
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: And the breathing. You know, you've got to fucking control. Yeah,
- 1:35:58it's like, God.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: Yeah, everything's going, man. You're firing on a whole cylinder.
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: For sure, the most athletic thing in all of music.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: For sure.
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: Nothing even close, right?
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Yeah, no.
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: I mean, playing guitar is, you're moving your hands and everything,
- 1:36:13but it's not nearly.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: Drums are like, it's more like a sport.
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: It really is.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: It really is.
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: It really is. Like, you don't see a really out
- 1:36:21of shape drummer.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: No.
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: You know? It's almost like you can't be to keep up.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: No, I know. And everybody's, you're kind of like, You're
- 1:36:30the fucking heartbeat, man. You're really, everybody's kind of, you know,
- 1:36:35people say you're only as good, your band's only as
- 1:36:39good as your drummer. And that's really fucking, it's really true.
- 1:36:42And I'm not just saying that because I'm a fucking drummer,
- 1:36:44but the drummer has a lot of responsibility, man. Everybody,
- 1:36:49all the people that you see out there that are
- 1:36:50fucking moving, I'm responsible for a lot of that. And
- 1:36:56I'm not saying it for all of it, but you
- 1:36:57sort of set the pace. You know, and you're making
- 1:37:04people physically move. Yes. Like that takes a lot of work.
- 1:37:11You know, the amount of energy you're putting out, you're
- 1:37:13getting back and you're seeing it and you're like, fuck,
- 1:37:16I'm driving here. Yeah. And that's a cool place to be.
- 1:37:19But it is a responsibility and it is. physical and
- 1:37:22it's draining, but, but it's fucking rad. I live for it.
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: Did you take lessons to learn how to drum or
- 1:37:29did you learn on your own?
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Um, I, I didn't really take lessons. Like I learned
- 1:37:34on my own until, I mean like kind of early in,
- 1:37:39in high school I played in the marching band, but
- 1:37:43that wasn't really like drums. That was like more like,
- 1:37:46like a drum core stuff, like rudiments and like, you know,
- 1:37:51drum core shit. not really the whole kit until later. Um, I,
- 1:37:56I got the school, my high school to let me,
- 1:37:58or sorry, my grade school to let me borrow the drum,
- 1:38:02the jazz drum set at the school and I'd bring
- 1:38:06it home. And then I started just like listening to
- 1:38:09my favorite shit and I would just play along. And I,
- 1:38:13so I never really took any physical lessons. I just
- 1:38:17It was just in me, man. I was just, like,
- 1:38:19really good at hearing something and going, oh, okay, I
- 1:38:22got it.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: Did you have to learn how to hold the sticks?
- 1:38:24Do you hold the sticks in a conventional way, like
- 1:38:26you're taught, or did you just figure it out on
- 1:38:28your own?
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Just. I just figured it out on my own. Probably
- 1:38:33just moved on from the forks and the spoons.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: It's interesting how many great musicians learned on their own.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: Like Hendrix. Hendrix taught himself to play guitar. That's why
- 1:38:43he played it upside down, left-handed.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: He just made it work.
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Just figured out how to do it on his own.
- 1:38:49It's really interesting how like with, you know, when you
- 1:38:53just get an instrument and listen to other people use
- 1:38:56it and learn how they're doing it and just kind
- 1:38:59of fuck around with it and figure it out.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: And then doing it your own way.
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Of course. And then, whoa, then you got your own thing,
- 1:39:05which is, that's wonderful, man.
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: Well, if you think about early rock and roll versus
- 1:39:10the way drums are played, like, like you play or
- 1:39:13like Travis plays, like some elite drummer plays, it's like,
- 1:39:17drums are so much, it's like, it's so much more
- 1:39:19powerful now than ever before.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: I know, man. God. And then that thing happens. I
- 1:39:25don't know if you've ever been around like a, like
- 1:39:27a drum circle, the more drummers there are, like all
- 1:39:31of a sudden it just becomes this, this thing. It
- 1:39:34grows into this tribal, like, dude, everybody's just being moved
- 1:39:39by rhythm. Yeah. And fuck, it's so powerful. It's like,
- 1:39:43you know, I don't know that, that kind of, it's,
- 1:39:46It's a more aggressive power than the kind of power
- 1:39:49where you can make somebody fucking cry playing the piano. Right.
- 1:39:52Playing the right chords. Right. I'll watch them cry. Yeah. Right? Yeah. But, yeah,
- 1:39:58that's fun, man. There's nothing better than rhythm, man. I
- 1:40:03live for that shit.
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: No, I can tell.
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: I was getting in trouble all the time, man, in
- 1:40:07school because I'd always be like... Always. Always. Can you
- 1:40:13stop tapping on the tables? Yep. Sorry. They sit back
- 1:40:17in the back of class and be like, making like
- 1:40:23water drip noises. Everyone's looking around for a leak. Class clown.
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: Well, there's something about drums that it's like a part
- 1:40:31of like tribal culture. Like from the beginning of human time,
- 1:40:35like people pounding on drums. For war. Yeah, they pounded
- 1:40:40it on ships to keep pace with the rowing. You know,
- 1:40:43there was a guy that was the drummer on a ship.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: You know, to make sure everybody keeps pace.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: It's kind of wild. Isn't that cool?
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: You know, they knew even back then there's something about
- 1:40:53the sound of drums that's important.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: The heartbeat.
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: Do you ever fuck around with bongos?
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: Oh, sure. Yeah, a lot of hand instruments, bongos, congas.
- 1:41:09I just, the last couple of years, have been playing
- 1:41:13a hand drum. People call them a hang drum, hand drum.
- 1:41:16You know them? Have you seen them? They look like
- 1:41:19a fucking flying saucer.
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, I have.
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: They're really melodic, really beautiful, zen-y sounding instrument. That's cool,
- 1:41:28because it's percussive and melodic. So you can come up
- 1:41:31with these really bitchin', depending on how the instrument's tuned
- 1:41:35and stuff, but that's been a lot of fun. That's cool, like,
- 1:41:39sort of A different kind of rhythm, but it's a
- 1:41:45soothing one. It's the total opposite of the aggressive shit. Right, right, right.
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: Well, I mean, it must be fun since you've been
- 1:41:53playing drums for so long just to experiment with different things.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: I love that, man. I'm always searching for a new sound,
- 1:42:05you know, a new percussive sound that moves you, makes
- 1:42:09you fucking... I don't know, it gets inside you. I'm
- 1:42:15always on the hunt, dude. I'm such a tweaker. I'll
- 1:42:19find something that sonically sounds like a drum. It could
- 1:42:22be a drum. It's not. And I'll make it. I'll
- 1:42:26turn it into something that sounds like a drum. And
- 1:42:28all of a sudden, you know, that, you know, I
- 1:42:30don't know, hitting on these elk horns or something sounds
- 1:42:34like a wood block, but pitched way, way down, it
- 1:42:39more sounds like a note going, oom. I don't know. Like,
- 1:42:43I'm just I love I love percussion and rhythm. So
- 1:42:47I'm always fucking around trying to find find something that
- 1:42:51moves us, you know. That's my job. Yeah. That's a
- 1:42:55cool fucking job. I'm here to move you, man.
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: It's a cool fucking job. Yeah, I like it, man.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: It doesn't suck. No. It doesn't suck.
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: No. When you're working on a new song, when you're
- 1:43:08creating a new song, what is your process? Do you
- 1:43:12have a beat in your head? Do you sit down
- 1:43:15and just start fucking around until something comes to you? Like,
- 1:43:18how do you do it?
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: You know what? It's always different. I wish I could
- 1:43:21say I had like a, A thing? A process. I
- 1:43:24really don't, man. Like, you know, it'll be something that
- 1:43:28happened to me or something I'm experiencing will spark a
- 1:43:32word or a chant. All of a sudden, you know,
- 1:43:37then I'll pick up a fucking guitar and be like, oh,
- 1:43:40this is killer. Or sometimes they come with a beat.
- 1:43:43I'm like, oh, this is a fucking killer beat. This
- 1:43:45would be great. And then I'll start with a beat
- 1:43:47and then add guitars. It's never really, there's not really
- 1:43:51like a format. I just kind of go with whatever's
- 1:43:55sort of inspiring me at the time that I feel
- 1:43:58like I need to write about. Yeah, there's not really
- 1:44:03like a way. I know a lot of people have
- 1:44:05a methodical way. Like, well, I start with the lyric first.
- 1:44:09Always the lyric first. Nothing else is important. Okay, dude.
- 1:44:15Why don't we get people to move first before you
- 1:44:17try to seduce them with these fucking crazy words? Actually,
- 1:44:22no one's going to even get to these fucking words
- 1:44:26if you can't get them to stay listening or to move.
- 1:44:30They're like, oh, this is nice. It's not the key
- 1:44:34moment when you're like, ooh, this is cool. Before you've
- 1:44:38even heard a lyric or a melody, that's kind of
- 1:44:45my priority is like, is it moving me?
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: Okay, let's go.
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: It seems like having a bunch of different methods to
- 1:44:51get there is probably better anyway.
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: Because there's all sorts of different paths to get to
- 1:44:56the prize.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: And having a bunch of different methods of creativity is
- 1:45:01probably better.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: It's going to give you– It frees you up more.
- 1:45:04Different results, right?
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: Instead of being, okay, well, it's going to start to
- 1:45:07sound the same if you keep using the same method. Yeah.
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: When you write, do you write down on paper or
- 1:45:14do you just– Yeah.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, paper. Paper. No.
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: Do you ever write on computer or do you ever
- 1:45:21like just write in your own head? Do you ever
- 1:45:23just like.
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: I use a computer a lot too. A lot for,
- 1:45:27excuse me, for demos. That's a really quick way to,
- 1:45:30you know, where I can, I can present a song
- 1:45:33to the band where, you know, fuck, I play guitar, sing, drums, bass.
- 1:45:38So I'll, I'll bring in demos that....
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: Totally created by you.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Yeah, just sound, they sound finished, you know, it's like, okay.
- 1:45:47And then, you know, and we'll go from there. So yeah, I,
- 1:45:51I always try to like, you know, not, not finish
- 1:45:55everything entirely because you know, when you're in a band
- 1:45:59with three other guys who also create kind of leave
- 1:46:01it open for that. But, um, but yeah, I'd use
- 1:46:05the computer a lot to sort of compose the ideas
- 1:46:08and get them recorded, sort of produce them.
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: It's really beautiful that, You know, Motley Crue hit in 1980.
- 1:46:18Here we are 46 years later and you still love it.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: That's so awesome.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy?
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: That's what everybody wants in this life. Something that they're
- 1:46:30passionate about that remains a passion. It stays. And if anything,
- 1:46:36grows as a passion. Still exciting. Still enticing. Still captivates you.
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: 1980.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: 1980.
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: The world was a different place. I mean, think about
- 1:46:48where we were in the universe in 1980 and how
- 1:46:52the entire solar system is spiraling through the galaxy, which
- 1:46:57is spiraling through space. Like, we've moved how many fucking
- 1:47:01million miles since 1980? I know.
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: That's hard to think about.
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: You know, have you ever seen what the, you know,
- 1:47:10we always want to think about the sun being in
- 1:47:13the center of our solar system and the planet spinning
- 1:47:16around it. But have you ever seen what the whole
- 1:47:18solar system looks like, like moving through space? The whole
- 1:47:22thing's moving through space. It's not stationary. It's not like
- 1:47:27we're sat there and we're just spinning around.
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and everybody else is just sitting there.
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: No, the fucking whole thing is hurling through space. So
- 1:47:36in 1980, we were in a totally different spot in
- 1:47:40the universe.
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: That's crazy. That is crazy.
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: The world was different. People were different. Information was different.
- 1:47:51Our version of reality was different.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: Everything.
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: Everything was different.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: Fuck.
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: And you wrote it out from answering machines to pagers
- 1:48:03to fucking sidekicks to iPhones to the internet to everything like.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Remember the Motorola brick phone?
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: You were a pimp if you had one of those.
- 1:48:17Look at it. This is what it looks like. See,
- 1:48:20most people think our solar system looks like, but this
- 1:48:22is what it actually is doing.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: Oh, it's true.
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: How our solar system actually moves. So look, the sun's
- 1:48:28hurling through space, and all the planets are spinning around
- 1:48:32it as it hurls through space. Oh. Isn't that crazy?
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: Where's Earth there?
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: Earth is the third planet from the sun.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: The blue one right there.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: Dude.
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: So just think about that.
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: How many rips?
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: Yeah. How many rips have we done since 1980?
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: Bro.
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: We're in a different place in the fucking universe than
- 1:48:52we were in 1980. Whoa. How far? Let's ask this.
- 1:48:57How far has the solar system moved through the universe
- 1:49:00since 1980? Let's ask perplexity that.
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: This is one of the best uses of AI. Stupid
- 1:49:08information like this.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, it is.
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: It is. I'm going to guess. 100 million miles. Just
- 1:49:20a wild guess. I have no idea. I might be
- 1:49:24off by 100 million. Well, let me see what it
- 1:49:31looks like. Roughly two to three, I think a light
- 1:49:35year is a trillion miles.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: Whoa, dude.
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: Two to three light years through space. Okay, how many
- 1:49:42miles is a light year? Put that in. I didn't
- 1:49:46say miles. Right, but how many miles is a light year?
- 1:49:55I think it's a trillion miles.
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: Fuck, we're going in.
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: Oh, a light year is 5.88 trillion miles.
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: Dude! Okay.
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: So think about that. Think about how many trillions of
- 1:50:10miles Earth has traveled through the universe since Motley Crue
- 1:50:16bust out onto the scene.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Dude.
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: Think of that.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: And a trillion is a thousand billion, right?
- 1:50:22Speaker 3: Yes, a thousand billion. How many thousand billion miles has
- 1:50:27the Earth traveled? So it was like two to three
- 1:50:34light years. Okay. And each light year is how many trillion?
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: 5.88.
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: 5.88. How about that? So you're dealing with roughly... 15
- 1:50:46plus trillion miles?
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: Dude, we're old.
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: Old as fuck. 1980, I was in junior high school.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: I don't know about old, but fuck we've traveled.
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: We have fucking traveled.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: We have fucking traveled.
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: But that's a freaky thing to think about, how far,
- 1:51:07we're in a different place in the universe.
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: Boy, thank you for that bit of information. That's nice
- 1:51:12to hear. I don't know.
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: Just to think about it.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: Dude, you know how many miles I fucking traveled, bro? Yeah.
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: 15 plus trillion.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Trillion?
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: Just since Motley Crue bust out onto the scene. What
- 1:51:25was it like being that famous at 18? That'd be nuts.
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: It's fucking bizarre, dude. Like, I don't even know how
- 1:51:34to explain it. Just imagine having the fucking, I don't know,
- 1:51:40the keys to the fucking... Pretty much anything you wanted
- 1:51:47to do, try.
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: What was the first crazy thing you bought when you
- 1:51:51first started making cheddar?
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: First thing I bought was my fucking dream car. It
- 1:51:58was a fucking 82 Corvette. T-top.
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: T-tops popped out. What color? It was champagne colored.
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: Ooh, nice.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it was kind of silvery gold kind of a color. Yeah.
- 1:52:13Fucking rad, dude. I don't know when you're a kid.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: In 82, the Corvette was one of the only American
- 1:52:20cars worth buying. Because in 82, they were still dope looking.
- 1:52:25Pull up a 1982 Corvette.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: Yeah, they're still fucking rad.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: Mustangs looked like hot dog shit in 82. They looked
- 1:52:32fucking terrible. They looked terrible. Camaros looked like shit. Everything
- 1:52:36looked like shit. They were all like plastic garbage. That's
- 1:52:39still dope.
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: Like that's still dope today.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: That's the color I had, dude.
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: Look at that.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: That's the one.
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: Look at that. Make that bigger.
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: That is a fucking dope car today.
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: It's one of the only American cars from 1982 that
- 1:52:56looks dope today. Like pull up a 1982 Mustang. 1982
- 1:52:59Mustang is going to make you want to vomit.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Oh, dude.
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: I know a lot of people that are like fans
- 1:53:08of the fox body.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: Oh, no. Look at that.
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: What is that? Garbage.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Bro, that looks like a gremlin.
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: It looks like straight horse shit. That's whatever the fucking
- 1:53:18Russians did to us to make this fake car. Or
- 1:53:23really the Nixon administration by fucking blocking drugs. Look at
- 1:53:27how ugly that is. That is fucking disgusting.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: That is, dude.
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: Look how fucking disgusting that is. Now I want you
- 1:53:35to do this. Pull up a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang.
- 1:53:37Put up the pinnacle. The pinnacle of muscle cars. Look
- 1:53:47at that, motherfucker.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: Yeah, right?
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: Look at that.
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: Fucking hell.
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: Look at the difference between 1969 and that fucking dog
- 1:53:56shit 1982. Extended Gremlin.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: Look at that, motherfucker.
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: Look at that thing. God damn. America. That's a real car.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: That's badass.
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: But they blocked the drugs. They kept those car makers
- 1:54:08from having drugs, and they all make garbage except Corvettes.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: Corvette still stuck with that style because Corvettes were fiberglass.
- 1:54:18So they weren't as limited in terms of like the shapes.
- 1:54:21You know, they had those cool swervy lines to them
- 1:54:24and they kept those until, oddly enough, the 90s. They
- 1:54:29started getting shitty in the 90s. Look at you, dog.
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: Yeah, there it is, dude.
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: Look at you, dog. Wow, that's crazy.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: That's nuts, dude.
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: I wonder who's got that car.
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: Somebody has Tommy Lee's 1982 Corvette.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Somebody.
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: They have to.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: You know that thing's still running.
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: Yeah, probably, hopefully.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: Well, a lot of those, they take them and make
- 1:54:52resto mods out of them now. They'll put, like, a
- 1:54:53modern engine and modern brakes and everything so they handle
- 1:54:56better and modern suspension.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: I immediately fucking, me and my buddy just took that
- 1:55:05car and fucking put a, like, blower and an injection
- 1:55:10on it. This fucking insane dude in the glove box.
- 1:55:13This is before, like now we have, you know, a
- 1:55:17bunch of super rad tuned exhaust, you know, uh, you know,
- 1:55:21straight pipe shit loud as fuck. This is before that.
- 1:55:25And we, we made a couple of cutouts in the,
- 1:55:28in the glove box. Like if the cops were to come,
- 1:55:30you just open the glove box and take these two, they,
- 1:55:33they're like choke levers and you, you pull them, pull
- 1:55:37them out. And the flaps would disconnect them and just
- 1:55:41go straight from the headers out and bypass the mufflers.
- 1:55:44So it would just be like... And if the cops
- 1:55:50were coming, you just push these two choke levers in
- 1:55:54and back to the mufflers, all quiet.
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: Yeah, they have switches for that now with a lot
- 1:56:00of cars, like custom-made cars. They have exhaust switches that
- 1:56:02do that. But they don't do it to that extent
- 1:56:04where it just goes straight pipes.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that must have sounded fucking amazing.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: Dude, so rad.
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there's nothing like rock and roll and
- 1:56:14muscle cars. Like, those are two things that are, like,
- 1:56:17completely connected forever.
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: Yeah, another fucking rad car that I never got, but
- 1:56:22I always wanted to, was, like, the fucking Shelby Cobra. Oh, yeah.
- 1:56:27The big fucking pipes blowing right just loud as fuck. Like,
- 1:56:31four-inch exhaust. Like, dude, that shit's throaty and just.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: Tiny little car, little fiberglass car.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: Go-kart with a 427 in it.
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: Crazy power, no weight at all. It weighs nothing.
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: It just does burnouts the whole time. Too much.
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: I have a buddy of mine who has one of those.
- 1:56:49It's nuts. But it freaks me out. It's like there's
- 1:56:52no protection here. If you get in an accident, there's
- 1:56:54like nothing to this car. You have no roof. You
- 1:56:58don't even have a roll bar. It's like just got
- 1:57:00this little tiny windshield. You're behind the wheel of an engine,
- 1:57:03just a giant engine with four wheels.
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you're done.
- 1:57:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: One bad move.
- 1:57:08Speaker 3: Pretty dope. Yeah, super rad. Yeah, like one of those. Like,
- 1:57:12look at that fucking thing.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: Dude, I'm sorry, but that's the fucking sickest shit.
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: Radical looking.
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: Oh, look at the flared wheel wells.
- 1:57:20Speaker 3: The thing is, too, they make a lot of recreations now.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:57:23Speaker 3: The old ones are worth like millions of dollars.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: Dude, I know. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:57:27Speaker 3: But you can get a recreation and experience the exact
- 1:57:30same thing.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Sure.
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: There's a ton of recreations now. And they're fucking great.
- 1:57:35And they look the same. And it's like, yeah, it's
- 1:57:37not worth as much money. But who fucking cares? Just
- 1:57:39go drive it. It's awesome.
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:57:42Speaker 3: Look at that thing. Jeez.
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: Bro, look at. Jeez.
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: Carbon fiber. Oh, my goodness. Look at that fucking thing.
- 1:57:48It's all carbon fiber.
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: Oh, fuck.
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: That must weigh 14 pounds.
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: Let's go get a couple, dude.
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: Dude, who's making that? Click on that link. Who's making
- 1:57:57that fucking thing? Yeah, probably is. Well, I know, yeah,
- 1:58:02Classic Recreations, that same company that does those dope 67 GT500s.
- 1:58:05They're making a classic. Recreations.
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: 1,000 horsepower! Oh, dude.
- 1:58:09Speaker 3: Dude, it weighs 2,300 pounds. That's nuts.
- 1:58:12Speaker 4: 1,000?
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: The carbon fiber body is only 88 pounds.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Unbelievable.
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: So it's 2,000 pounds of suspension, frame, and wheels, and engine.
- 1:58:33And that's it. Look at that. That's sick. That's so sick.
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: That's just straight trouble right there.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: That's going to get you in trouble.
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: Or not.
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: Or just enjoy yourself.
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: Just fun, yeah.
- 1:58:44Speaker 3: But it's America, fuck yeah.
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: Fuck, I love those cars.
- 1:58:50Speaker 3: What else did you buy that was preposterous? What else
- 1:58:53did you buy that's nuts?
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: Um, when they first came out, um, me and my
- 1:59:00bass player bought like almost fucking at the same time, uh,
- 1:59:04the Ferrari had come out with the Testarossa.
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: Oh, the Miami vice car.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: Totally dude. Yeah. I had a car broker find me
- 1:59:14a black on black one.
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: Oh man.
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: And it was just like, fuck. Okay. This is insane.
- 1:59:21The listeners will probably appreciate this. You buy a, a
- 1:59:25fucking car for 200, at the time, $ 250, 000 for the Testarossa.
- 1:59:30Get it shipped from, it came in from, from Florida
- 1:59:35to LA. I'm pulling the plastic off the seats. This
- 1:59:37is brand fucking new. Back it down the fucking car carrier.
- 1:59:42And I'm in, the dude's kind of showing me, you know,
- 1:59:45what's up. And I fucking, I look in the, you know,
- 1:59:50to the right of the steering wheel, there's like a,
- 1:59:52like a, looks like a cover. So I grab it
- 1:59:55and you open it up where the stereo would be.
- 2:00:00I open it up and I go, where's the stereo?
- 2:00:05The guy goes, oh, Enzo believed that the music that
- 2:00:12you should be listening to is the sound of the engine.
- 2:00:17And I'm like. Well, that's fucking rad and everything, Enzo.
- 2:00:21But bro, I just spent a quarter of a million
- 2:00:24dollars and I want to fucking crank shit loud as
- 2:00:27fuck here and breaking.
- 2:00:29Speaker 3: The speed limit.
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: Like, come on. Who does that? And so I had
- 2:00:34to go. I got a stereo at the time. There
- 2:00:37was no subwoofers. There was a bazooka tube was available.
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: You could drop.
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: There's no room, too. So you could you could get
- 2:00:46a bazooka tube behind the seats. Right. And some fucking,
- 2:00:49you know, for a subwoofer and some other speakers in
- 2:00:52the doors.
- 2:00:53Speaker 3: Decent door speakers.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Decent.
- 2:00:56Speaker 3: They were only decent back then.
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: Yeah. And an Alpine receiver. Right. And I got it
- 2:01:01to bump, but I just found it fucking just shocking that, like,
- 2:01:07that much money for a car and you still don't
- 2:01:10get a stereo? What?
- 2:01:11Speaker 3: It's pretty ridiculous.
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:01:13Speaker 3: But... They did sound incredible.
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: And I totally get it.
- 2:01:18Speaker 3: Like, you should be listening to the motor. There's a
- 2:01:19sound that those things make that's just like, it's heavenly.
- 2:01:23It's totally different than the American sound of the muscle
- 2:01:25car sound. The muscle car sound is my all-time favorite.
- 2:01:28But there's something melodic about those Ferrari engines. Roar!
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: Roar!
- 2:01:35Speaker 3: It's like a sound just like it. Oh, there's a
- 2:01:37sound that it has. It's like, it's, it's so spectacular.
- 2:01:40It's just engineering and it's wine and pasta and a
- 2:01:44fucking windy road.
- 2:01:45Speaker 1: And totally, you know, bonjour. No. Fuck.
- 2:01:53Speaker 3: Yeah, man. Oh, those things are, there's something special. And again,
- 2:01:58it's a, what is that? It's a piece of passion.
- 2:01:59It's artwork. It's artwork. That's, you know, made into an
- 2:02:04engineering form.
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that we get to play with. Yeah. Basically a
- 2:02:08race car.
- 2:02:09Speaker 3: Yeah. Like a friend of mine, we were talking about
- 2:02:12like Ferrari. Do you think Ferraris are worth it? I go, listen, man,
- 2:02:15rich people aren't stupid. They're not stupid. If Ferraris weren't
- 2:02:18worth it, they wouldn't keep buying them. Have you ever
- 2:02:20driven one?
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:02:22Speaker 3: No, trust me. They're fucking worth it.
- 2:02:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:02:24Speaker 3: Like, yeah, it's a ridiculous amount of money. It's not
- 2:02:26worth it really for a normal person. But if you
- 2:02:29have like an insane amount of money and you could
- 2:02:31experience that, the thing Ferrari fucked up on big time.
- 2:02:35is they took away the manual transmission. They fucked that up.
- 2:02:39They fucked that up. Porsche's the only one who kept it.
- 2:02:42They're the only one smart enough to realize there's a
- 2:02:44part of the experience that you gotta fucking... That gated
- 2:02:50shifter where you're clacking them in there in a Ferrari.
- 2:02:55Speaker 1: Bring it back.
- 2:02:56Speaker 3: Cut the shit. Guys are silly.
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: Dude, did you see the fucking electric car they just released?
- 2:03:02Which one? The Ferrari?
- 2:03:04Speaker 3: That was dog shit.
- 2:03:05Speaker 1: Dude.
- 2:03:06Speaker 3: They fucked that up. Hardcore. That looks like a joke.
- 2:03:08It looks like something that someone made for just to
- 2:03:13get engagement online. Like it's fake, but it's real.
- 2:03:16Speaker 1: I know. I couldn't. I was like, this.
- 2:03:18Speaker 3: Can't be real. It looks as ugly as those 1982 Mustangs.
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:03:21Speaker 3: It looks like a bar of soap. See, pull a
- 2:03:23picture of the Ferrari electric car.
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Look at Ferrari. Look at it, dude.
- 2:03:29Speaker 3: It looks so boring. What the fuck? And so nothing.
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 2:03:33Speaker 3: Look at it. Even inside, you're like, this looks like
- 2:03:35cheap dog shit.
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:03:38Speaker 3: I don't understand it.
- 2:03:39Speaker 1: I don't get it either. I thought it was like
- 2:03:41a joke. I know. You know, like, you know.
- 2:03:44Speaker 3: Like, look at this. It's got suicide doors, which is
- 2:03:46kind of dope.
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: That's kind of cool.
- 2:03:47Speaker 3: But you know what is really dope? On a 65 Continental,
- 2:03:50not on this fucking thing. Look at ugly, ugly fucking monstrosity.
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: That's funny you mentioned that car. That's another one of
- 2:03:58my favorites. Oh, 65 Continental?
- 2:04:02Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:04:02Speaker 1: Fucking.
- 2:04:03Speaker 3: I know a guy who's got one for sale that's
- 2:04:05a resto mod, and I'm fucking really thinking about it.
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 2:04:09Speaker 3: It's a 65 black convertible with the suicide doors, and
- 2:04:12it's just mint. It's mint. And it's got a new
- 2:04:16engine in it, like a modern engine, and it's got
- 2:04:18fucking a perfect suspension in it. It looks so radical.
- 2:04:21There's something about that car, especially in a convertible, the 65.
- 2:04:25Speaker 1: The convertible, that's my jam right there.
- 2:04:29Speaker 3: Good luck parking anywhere.
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: You might as well be parking a yacht.
- 2:04:32Speaker 1: It's a fucking boat, dude.
- 2:04:33Speaker 3: It's so big. It's so big. It's so big, but
- 2:04:37it's so sick. It's just I can't understand how Ferrari
- 2:04:40can make. Now, I want you to pull up a
- 2:04:42Ferrari 458 Italia. So I think the 458 is their masterpiece.
- 2:04:48I think it's the best looking Ferrari that they ever made.
- 2:04:51There's a lot of them that look great. There's a
- 2:04:53lot of them that are amazing. But for me, there's
- 2:04:55something about when they came up with the 458. It just,
- 2:04:59they nailed it. You look at that. Oh, my God.
- 2:05:03Look at that fucking thing. That is a work of art.
- 2:05:07It's so beautiful. And a lot of people think it's
- 2:05:10the greatest Ferrari ever. It also doesn't have a manual transmission,
- 2:05:14which sucks a fat dick. But other than that, go
- 2:05:17back to that last picture that you had of that one.
- 2:05:19Look at that one.
- 2:05:20Speaker 1: Make that bigger.
- 2:05:20Speaker 3: Look at that color. Oh, it's a shitty picture. But, God,
- 2:05:24it's fucking beautiful. Amazing design.
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: Those are beautiful.
- 2:05:27Speaker 3: Now, think of the company that made that. Also made that.
- 2:05:30Go with that black one right there where your cursor
- 2:05:32just was. Click on that one.
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: Oh, baby.
- 2:05:35Speaker 3: Look how sick that is.
- 2:05:37Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:05:37Speaker 3: And how do you go from that to that electric
- 2:05:40piece of shit you guys just released?
- 2:05:42Speaker 1: I don't know. Fuck you.
- 2:05:43Speaker 3: Fuck you for doing that. How dare you?
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: I bought an F8 Tributo.
- 2:05:52Speaker 3: Oh, those are sick.
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: Which is very similar to... And that fucking car is badass.
- 2:05:58Speaker 3: No, they make incredible cars. They make incredible. And somehow
- 2:06:02or another, less douchey than a Lamborghini. I don't know
- 2:06:05how they did it.
- 2:06:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06:07Speaker 3: You know what I mean? It's like something about a
- 2:06:09Ferrari that you have when it's sophisticated. You know?
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06:13Speaker 3: Whereas if you have a Lamborghini, like, look at this douchebag. Meanwhile,
- 2:06:17Lamborghinis are awesome.
- 2:06:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06:19Speaker 3: They're awesome.
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: But why is that? Why are they, like, attached to?
- 2:06:23I guess because it's kind of like. I don't know.
- 2:06:26I don't know. Maybe rappers or something started leasing them.
- 2:06:31Speaker 3: I don't know because they used Ferraris too. It doesn't
- 2:06:34make any sense. It's like there's something about them that's
- 2:06:37more ostentatious. It's more obnoxious.
- 2:06:40Speaker 1: The doors maybe. Just too showy. I know.
- 2:06:44Speaker 3: I have a buddy of mine who loves Ferrari. He's
- 2:06:46a rich guy and he loves Ferrari. He's like, I
- 2:06:47can't drive a Lamborghini. I'm like, why not? He's like,
- 2:06:50it's just– I feel like a douchebag.
- 2:06:52Speaker 1: I'm like, okay.
- 2:06:55Speaker 3: I know what you're saying. There's a real thing there,
- 2:06:57but I don't know why.
- 2:06:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06:58Speaker 3: Because Lamborghinis are fucking amazing.
- 2:07:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they fucking, too, have an amazing sound.
- 2:07:03Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: Different from Ferraris. Exactly. A little higher, whinier.
- 2:07:07Speaker 3: But sick.
- 2:07:07Speaker 1: But they bark. I mean... Like, what is.
- 2:07:09Speaker 3: The latest Lamborghini? They have some crazy new one that
- 2:07:13they just released last year. It's insane. It's as wide
- 2:07:17as a fucking trailer.
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: Oh.
- 2:07:19Speaker 3: It's huge.
- 2:07:21Speaker 1: XJ... I don't know.
- 2:07:22Speaker 3: I don't know the name of it. I've never had
- 2:07:24a Lamborghini.
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: Yeah, me either.
- 2:07:27Speaker 3: I drove one once on a track. It was a
- 2:07:28little loose. Which one's that? Tamarino? Tamarario. Tamarario. That looks amazing.
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: Whoa, dude.
- 2:07:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: That's pretty. Ew. That one.
- 2:07:45Speaker 3: There we go.
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: Huracan.
- 2:07:46Speaker 3: That's another sick one.
- 2:07:47Speaker 1: Oh, the Huracan, yeah.
- 2:07:48Speaker 3: That's a little smaller and lighter, I think.
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 2:07:53Speaker 3: It's also amazing you give an 18-year-old kid that kind
- 2:07:56of power in a car and you're still alive.
- 2:08:01Speaker 1: I know. I know. Oh, dude. Fuck. Yeah. Those kind
- 2:08:09of cars will definitely check you, keep you in check, too,
- 2:08:13because it's not until, you know, Over 100 miles an hour,
- 2:08:20getting closer to 200 miles an hour to where you're
- 2:08:23in that car and you're like, it hits you. You go,
- 2:08:27if I make one fucking tiny little error here, it's over.
- 2:08:33Speaker 3: It's over.
- 2:08:34Speaker 1: It's over. Yeah. The motor's in the fucking back. Yeah.
- 2:08:37And if this thing runs off the road or whatever,
- 2:08:42it's just going to accordion.
- 2:08:44Speaker 3: Right into me.
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: And you're done.
- 2:08:48Speaker 3: It's kind of amazing you just buy one. I thought
- 2:08:51about that now. They have the new Corvette ZR1. It
- 2:08:55has 1,000 horsepower from the factory. So you could just
- 2:08:58go into a Corvette dealership, if you got the cash,
- 2:09:01slap down some money, and you have 1,000. 1,000 horsepower
- 2:09:04car that goes zero to 60 in two seconds. And
- 2:09:06you just go out there and be like, bye. Good luck.
- 2:09:13Be safe. Yeah. Like, what are you doing? How are
- 2:09:15you allowed to have that? Like, you should have to
- 2:09:17have a pilot's license to drive one of those things.
- 2:09:19Speaker 1: Totally. Or just, you know, racetrack only, whatever.
- 2:09:23Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:09:23Speaker 3: But imagine you're an 18-year-old rock star.
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: Here you go. I'll do it.
- 2:09:29Speaker 3: Got one. And back then, the Corvettes like yours, especially
- 2:09:32when you put a blower on it, those fucking things
- 2:09:34had no traction control. They had no anti-lock brakes. There's
- 2:09:37no nannies. There was nothing to protect you.
- 2:09:40Speaker 1: No.
- 2:09:41Speaker 3: It was just madness.
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: Just pure madness.
- 2:09:45Speaker 3: Did you ever take it to a track or anything?
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: No, never did.
- 2:09:48Speaker 3: Have you ever driven around a track? You've done that?
- 2:09:50Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:09:50Speaker 3: That's fun.
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that is fun. That is fun. I went to...
- 2:09:54I spent some time at the Skip Barber school.
- 2:09:57Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 2:09:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Of course, the Libra in me has to fucking
- 2:10:03learn about everything. I have to Apex and study. Right. Like,
- 2:10:08there's a lot of physical and, you know, technical things
- 2:10:12about driving. Oh, yeah. If you don't understand about going
- 2:10:15into a turn at fucking 100 miles an hour, you're
- 2:10:18going to fucking die.
- 2:10:20Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 2:10:21Speaker 1: You know, so... I was like, I don't know.
- 2:10:23Speaker 3: We're definitely going to spin out. Yeah. Learning how to
- 2:10:26do it was really interesting to me. It was really
- 2:10:28interesting to realize, like, the lines that you take.
- 2:10:31Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:10:31Speaker 3: Like, you don't just go in the middle of the
- 2:10:33track all the way. No, you're hugging the outside edge,
- 2:10:35then the inside edge, and cutting the lines to make
- 2:10:38a quicker time.
- 2:10:39Speaker 4: Yep.
- 2:10:39Speaker 3: Knowing when to brake and knowing when you would accelerate.
- 2:10:42And it's so interesting.
- 2:10:43Speaker 1: It's a lot, man.
- 2:10:45Speaker 3: Very technical.
- 2:10:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:10:46Speaker 3: A lot more technical than anybody would ever think. You
- 2:10:48think you're just kind of steering the car like, no, no, no, no.
- 2:10:50There's a lot of decisions to be made. There's a
- 2:10:53lot going on, especially on a really windy turn. Like,
- 2:10:57That's what COTA looks like. That's the track, Circuit of
- 2:10:59the Americas. And that one is like, there's so much
- 2:11:02turns and there's a long straightaway. You could really fucking
- 2:11:05get after it. Right?
- 2:11:07Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's not even about the acceleration. A lot
- 2:11:10of times it's about the braking.
- 2:11:12Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, braking and turning.
- 2:11:14Speaker 1: Dude.
- 2:11:14Speaker 3: But it's like, that's one of the things that I
- 2:11:16say like is really worth it about having money is
- 2:11:18like experiencing a great car because it's like an amusement
- 2:11:22park ride.
- 2:11:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:11:24Speaker 3: Even when you're not even going fast. Just driving normal
- 2:11:27speeds around. It's like if you're shifting your own gears
- 2:11:29and you hear that engine, it's like, ah!
- 2:11:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: It's like an amusement park ride. You know, it's not just,
- 2:11:36you're not just driving a car.
- 2:11:37Speaker 1: You're absolutely right.
- 2:11:37Speaker 3: You're experiencing something that, you know, the other people aren't.
- 2:11:41You're driving that stupid Ferrari piece of shit electric car.
- 2:11:44You're not experiencing that.
- 2:11:46Speaker 1: No.
- 2:11:46Speaker 3: You know? No, no.
- 2:11:47Speaker 1: You're just grooving on the emblem. Yeah.
- 2:11:51Speaker 3: Yeah, they got you. That could have been a Hyundai easily.
- 2:11:54Speaker 1: Dude, I couldn't believe it. I was like, they did
- 2:11:56not do this.
- 2:11:57Speaker 3: Well, I hope they rebound. I hope they smack somebody
- 2:12:01who made that and go, hey, bro.
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: They will. I think one of the designers was one
- 2:12:06of the guys. who was involved in designing the iPhone,
- 2:12:10and it fucking looks like it. No. That's why it's
- 2:12:13got all the... Yes.
- 2:12:15Speaker 3: No! That guy's awesome. How did he do that?
- 2:12:20Speaker 1: That started to make sense. I was like, okay.
- 2:12:22Speaker 3: I would ask him, before I even talked to him
- 2:12:24about it, I'm like, what kind of cars do you have?
- 2:12:26Do you have a car? What do you drive? And
- 2:12:29if he's like, I drive an Escort. Like, fuck you.
- 2:12:32Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:12:32Speaker 3: Get the fuck out of here. I have a Prius.
- 2:12:35Go eat shit. Eat all the shit that's ever been shit.
- 2:12:39Speaker 1: Fuck you. Out of the design room.
- 2:12:41Speaker 3: You can't design a fucking Ferrari just because you made
- 2:12:44an iPhone. You're going to make it look sleek and plain.
- 2:12:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:12:48Speaker 3: No, it's got to look like art, you motherfucker. Someone's
- 2:12:51paying a quarter million dollars for this thing. And now,
- 2:12:53a lot more.
- 2:12:54Speaker 1: I think the electric car is, I want to say, $ 300.
- 2:12:58I bet they're going to sell two.
- 2:13:02Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:13:03Speaker 3: Two retards. Two fucking super rich retards are going to
- 2:13:05buy that fucking thing.
- 2:13:06Speaker 1: Nobody's going to spend $ 400, 000 on this electric thing.
- 2:13:12Speaker 3: Meanwhile, the other cars they make are fucking... Yeah, I know.
- 2:13:15What the fuck are you guys doing? What is the
- 2:13:19latest one? What is their main one now? The sleek
- 2:13:25looking one? The advanced version of the 458, like the
- 2:13:29one they have now. What is it called?
- 2:13:31Speaker 1: SF. What the fuck is it called?
- 2:13:34Speaker 3: SF90? SF90, yeah.
- 2:13:35Speaker 1: That's what it is. SF90.
- 2:13:37Speaker 3: That thing's insane. That's gorgeous.
- 2:13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 2:13:40Speaker 3: That's a gorgeous car.
- 2:13:41Speaker 1: My favorite.
- 2:13:42Speaker 3: How do they go from an SF90? They're selling that
- 2:13:44at the same time as they're selling the Sunka junk.
- 2:13:46SF90 is one of the best looking cars ever.
- 2:13:49Speaker 1: Yeah. It's incredible. Indeed.
- 2:13:52Speaker 3: Pull up a picture of one of those, Jamie. I'm
- 2:13:53on their website now.
- 2:13:55Speaker 1: Dude, have you seen the body style? I love the LaFerrari.
- 2:14:00The body style and the LaFerrari.
- 2:14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it. That's the one.
- 2:14:04Speaker 1: Oh, dude. That's got some LaFerrari in the ass end.
- 2:14:07Speaker 3: Oh, so this is like all the cars they've ever made, Jimmy.
- 2:14:09Speaker 4: I'm on their website.
- 2:14:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh.
- 2:14:11Speaker 3: No, I understand. This is all the cars that they
- 2:14:13make and all the cars. That's gorgeous, man. That is gorgeous.
- 2:14:17Speaker 1: Hit the LaFerrari. Yeah. Dude, the body.
- 2:14:24Speaker 3: Look at that thing.
- 2:14:25Speaker 4: Jesus.
- 2:14:25Speaker 3: What is the F80? Click on the F80. Oh, my God.
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: Gorgeous.
- 2:14:31Speaker 3: Gorgeous. When it says all models, they don't have the.
- 2:14:39What is it?
- 2:14:40Speaker 1: What I was looking for.
- 2:14:41Speaker 3: I was trying to find what... I went to the
- 2:14:42website to find the newest car. I know, but I
- 2:14:45think some of them, it's not the newest car. It
- 2:14:48might have been last year or a year ago. Well,
- 2:14:52they would sharing it somewhere on here, I would imagine. No,
- 2:14:57it's real, Jamie. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying,
- 2:15:01just Google pull up an image of Ferrari 2024 Ferrari SF90.
- 2:15:07Maybe you'll see it.
- 2:15:11Speaker 1: There it is. That's it. The wing?
- 2:15:15Speaker 3: That's one that's like prime for racing, but you go
- 2:15:17to images, please. There we go. That's it. Oh, So
- 2:15:23how does a company make that? Look how gorgeous that is.
- 2:15:27That's incredible. That's so beautiful.
- 2:15:29Speaker 1: I know.
- 2:15:29Speaker 3: How does a company make that and then that Johnny
- 2:15:32Ivey piece of shit?
- 2:15:32Speaker 1: Fucking thing. There's like three dudes. One dude, I guess,
- 2:15:38designed the iPhone and there's two other designers involved.
- 2:15:42Speaker 3: They probably work for Lamborghini. They're probably spies. They probably
- 2:15:46infiltrated and decided to ruin it from the inside. Probably
- 2:15:49the same guy that made Billy Squire's Music video.
- 2:15:52Speaker 1: Dude, that guy has got to be stopped. Fuck that guy.
- 2:15:57Speaker 3: He's like, listen to what I did for Billy Squire.
- 2:15:59Speaker 1: I can do this to Ferrari.
- 2:16:01Speaker 3: I can thank them.
- 2:16:02Speaker 1: I took Ferrari down.
- 2:16:04Speaker 3: Yeah, with one whack ass fucking electric car.
- 2:16:09Speaker 1: Yes, I sold them a phone design.
- 2:16:12Speaker 3: Yeah. But, you know, that's what happens. You let people,
- 2:16:17you know, you don't have enough people that are smart.
- 2:16:20that are artistic around that are going to look at
- 2:16:22that and go, hey, hey, hey. No.
- 2:16:25Speaker 1: Yeah. What's with all the yes men? There had to
- 2:16:28be somebody that went, what are we doing?
- 2:16:30Speaker 3: I don't know how the fuck that ever got greenlit
- 2:16:33by someone at Ferrari. How do you not look at
- 2:16:36all the other cars that you've made and then look
- 2:16:38at that one and it goes, a perfect.
- 2:16:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16:40Speaker 3: A perfection. No, no, no, no.
- 2:16:42Speaker 1: Nobody was doing that.
- 2:16:43Speaker 3: I don't get it.
- 2:16:44Speaker 1: No.
- 2:16:45Speaker 3: But, you know, companies make blunders.
- 2:16:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16:48Speaker 3: You know, every now and then a band puts out
- 2:16:50a shitty record.
- 2:16:51Speaker 1: You know what? It happens. It happens. It happens. I
- 2:16:54get it.
- 2:16:54Speaker 3: I mean, Ferrari's still Ferrari. They'll bounce back. But, you know, guys.
- 2:16:58Speaker 1: They can always go, hey, we're not in the electric
- 2:17:00car business, okay? We fucked up.
- 2:17:02Speaker 3: Well, that's what they probably should because most of the
- 2:17:05other car companies that do make electric cars, people really
- 2:17:07don't want them. You know, like the Porsches, the Taycans,
- 2:17:11like those Audis. Like the Audi ones that are just
- 2:17:14like a couple of years old, you can get them
- 2:17:15for like half price. Nobody wants them.
- 2:17:18Speaker 1: I know.
- 2:17:18Speaker 3: Nobody wants electric cars, especially used electric cars.
- 2:17:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's weird.
- 2:17:23Speaker 3: It is, but if you think about it, like electronics
- 2:17:25we think of as disposable, right? You don't want to
- 2:17:29buy someone's phone from 10 years ago.
- 2:17:31Speaker 1: No, no.
- 2:17:31Speaker 3: Right? So you don't want to buy a Tesla from
- 2:17:3310 years ago either.
- 2:17:34Speaker 1: No.
- 2:17:34Speaker 3: Right? Meanwhile, they're great. There's nothing wrong with them. You
- 2:17:37get a 10-year-old Tesla, it's a fucking awesome car.
- 2:17:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:17:39Speaker 3: But you don't want it.
- 2:17:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:17:41Speaker 3: People think of electronics as something you throw out and
- 2:17:43get new. Yes. But engines, that's a different story.
- 2:17:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:17:47Speaker 3: You know, like a 2005 Porsche is still very valuable.
- 2:17:51People love those things.
- 2:17:52Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Those things have gone through the roof lately.
- 2:17:56Like with the Porsches. Yeah. I just know so many
- 2:17:59guys that are just like buying them up, collecting them.
- 2:18:02Speaker 3: Well, I think also as things become more electric and
- 2:18:06more numb.
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:18:07Speaker 3: People like– they really love the sound of engines and
- 2:18:11the feel that you get from those cars, the actual
- 2:18:13experience of it.
- 2:18:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:18:15Speaker 3: You know? Yeah. It's like as things get more and
- 2:18:18more digital, I think with AI and music and everything,
- 2:18:21people are going to want to see live performances more.
- 2:18:25You know?
- 2:18:26Speaker 1: No doubt. Yeah.
- 2:18:27Speaker 3: I think they want that experience, the experience of like raw, live,
- 2:18:33something that makes you feel alive, something.
- 2:18:36Speaker 1: All about the experience, man. All about it.
- 2:18:41Speaker 3: You guys are touring again.
- 2:18:42Speaker 1: Yeah, coming up. Mid-July, we're out.
- 2:18:46Speaker 3: How fucking pumped are you for that?
- 2:18:47Speaker 1: A couple months. So pumped because I've actually, we've been home.
- 2:18:53We did this big stadium tour with Def Leppard. Went
- 2:19:00all around the world. That tour was, fuck, two and
- 2:19:04a half years long. Like, dude, that's insane. So, and
- 2:19:11I started to realize, I'm like, fuck, I can't remember
- 2:19:15the last time I've been home, like, with a break. Like,
- 2:19:19we intentionally were like, let's just fucking take a year
- 2:19:23or more than a year off. And it wasn't until
- 2:19:302016 was the last time we had, like, taken a break.
- 2:19:36taking a break. Um, so for me, um, it's just
- 2:19:42been fucking wonderful. I, I, I actually enjoyed the whole
- 2:19:47last summer at home and, you know, going now going
- 2:19:51into summer. Now we're getting ready to go back out,
- 2:19:53but just having that time at home was really fucking cool.
- 2:19:56So I'm super pumped. The grass is always greener, dude.
- 2:20:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:20:01Speaker 1: You know, when you're out there fucking ripping it, you're like,
- 2:20:03this is fucking red. And then after a while you're like,
- 2:20:06I'd shoot my own mom in the back to sleep
- 2:20:09in my fucking bed, you know?
- 2:20:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:20:12Speaker 1: You know, and then when you're at home too long,
- 2:20:14you're like, dude, I got to get out of here. Right.
- 2:20:18You know, I got to go fucking go do the shit.
- 2:20:21So it's, I don't know, that's a weird balance. You know,
- 2:20:25you're happy until it's too much and then, you know.
- 2:20:29Speaker 3: Well, it's just achieving the balance, but it's awesome that
- 2:20:32you still love it so much after all these years.
- 2:20:35Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 2:20:36Speaker 3: It really is.
- 2:20:37Speaker 1: Dude, let me just tell you. There's nothing better than... Imagine...
- 2:20:44Let's trade places for a second. You're back there. You're
- 2:20:47playing drums, and you've been doing this for a while.
- 2:20:51Long enough to see this is the fucking best in
- 2:20:54the world. You see your fans... All of a sudden,
- 2:20:58your fans have had children. Now their children are on
- 2:21:02the shoulders of their fucking parents, who were your fans.
- 2:21:09Now they're bringing their kids to the show, and their
- 2:21:13fucking kids are on their dad's shoulder going, shout, shout,
- 2:21:17with the fucking devil horns up. And you're like, you're
- 2:21:21sitting there going like, dude, that kid... what is he
- 2:21:27fucking 10?
- 2:21:30Speaker 3: And he's just fucking, you know, and just air drumming.
- 2:21:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Just to see that you're, you've, you've sort of,
- 2:21:37you know, you've, I don't know, just you've done a
- 2:21:40full circle to where now it's the whole nother generation.
- 2:21:44That's just now seeing this for the first time and
- 2:21:48they're fucking, and you, and you're sitting back there playing
- 2:21:51going like, That's pretty fucking incredible.
- 2:21:53Speaker 3: It's pretty fucking incredible.
- 2:21:55Speaker 1: That doesn't get old, man. To watch that happen is
- 2:22:00probably why the, become the reason why I love it
- 2:22:04so much. That really like puts a fucking nail in it.
- 2:22:06You know what I mean? Fuck yeah. That's like, and
- 2:22:09that can only be achieved through time. Yeah. Right? So
- 2:22:14that's nothing I've ever experienced until recently. In the last
- 2:22:18few years, you look out and you see A whole
- 2:22:22bunch of kids, man. And they're all just checking it
- 2:22:25out for the first time maybe. Wow. For sure, some
- 2:22:28of them. Right? And you're like, dude, fuck, this is wild. Wild.
- 2:22:35Speaker 3: That's awesome, man.
- 2:22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's beautiful.
- 2:22:36Speaker 3: Brother, you've had an amazing life. It's been an amazing
- 2:22:39ride and I'm so happy that you're enjoying it so much.
- 2:22:42Speaker 1: Thanks, brother. Thank you, man.
- 2:22:43Speaker 3: And thank you for being here, man. It was really cool.
- 2:22:45Speaker 1: Dude.
- 2:22:45Speaker 3: I really enjoyed it.
- 2:22:46Speaker 1: Thank you for having me, man.
- 2:22:47Speaker 3: My pleasure.
- 2:22:48Speaker 1: My pleasure. I've been wanting to come by and see
- 2:22:50you and Come hang out and talk shit.
- 2:22:53Speaker 3: I'm glad we did it.
- 2:22:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:22:54Speaker 3: I'm glad we did it.
- 2:22:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 2:22:55Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:22:56Speaker 1: I love you, bro. I love you too, brother.
- 2:22:57Speaker 4: Bye.
- 2:22:57Speaker 1: Bye.
