- 0:01Speaker 1: Hi, guys. Welcome to an episode of Till Death Do
- 0:04Speaker 1: Us Part. I'll be your host today, Emily Simpson and Shane.
- 0:08Speaker 2: All right.
- 0:08Speaker 1: On the morning of August 13th of 2026, Patrick, who
- 0:13Speaker 1: goes by Ted Barnett, called 911 from his home in Lakewood, Colorado,
- 0:17Speaker 1: reporting that his wife had cut her own throat. When
- 0:21Speaker 1: police arrived, they found 37-year-old Lindsay Barnett, a beloved elementary
- 0:25Speaker 1: school art teacher and mother of two young children, dead
- 0:28Speaker 1: in the bathroom. Patrick had a story ready. Marital problems,
- 0:33Speaker 1: separate sleeping arrangements, a tragic act of self-inflicted violence, but
- 0:37Speaker 1: almost immediately the crime scene started telling a very different story.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The blood was in the wrong places, Lindsay's body had
- 0:45Speaker 1: injuries that did not fit, and Patrick himself had wounds...
- 0:49Speaker 1: He struggled to explain. Then later the same day, a
- 0:52Speaker 1: phone call came in to police dispatch that would blow
- 0:55Speaker 1: the case wide open. So what really happened inside that
- 0:58Speaker 1: house while two toddlers were asleep? And how did investigators
- 1:02Speaker 1: piece together the truth from a scene that had clearly
- 1:05Speaker 1: been staged? So this is a recent case that has
- 1:08Speaker 1: just been popping up. It happened on August 13th of 2026.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Lindsay was 37 and she was an art teacher at
- 1:15Speaker 1: Hutchinson and Westgate elementary school in Lakewood, Colorado. And by
- 1:20Speaker 1: all accounts, she was deeply dedicated to her students and
- 1:23Speaker 1: had been actively making plans for the upcoming school year,
- 1:26Speaker 1: which is important because we talk about that when we
- 1:28Speaker 1: talk about suicide, right? She'd been actively making plans.
- 1:32Speaker 2: So that's always, I kind of, that doesn't mean a
- 1:35Speaker 2: whole lot to me though. I mean, it's something I guess,
- 1:37Speaker 2: but Robin Williams committed suicide, but I'm sure he had
- 1:39Speaker 2: a lot of active plans and things going on. But,
- 1:42Speaker 2: You just take a turn and you.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think people are just trying to get inside of
- 1:47Speaker 1: the mind so you're thinking what's going on and trying
- 1:52Speaker 1: to analyze whether someone did or not.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I mean, it's of noteworthy.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It's noteworthy, right. It's not indicative, right. It's not an
- 1:59Speaker 1: absolute someone made plans so they couldn't have committed suicide.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So Lindsay and her husband, Patrick, he goes by Ted,
- 2:06Speaker 1: who is 40, had two young children together, a toddler
- 2:09Speaker 1: and an infant. In the months leading up to her death,
- 2:12Speaker 1: the couple had been experiencing serious marital problems. Patrick had
- 2:17Speaker 1: moved to sleeping in the basement while Lindsay slept in
- 2:20Speaker 1: their main bedroom. Lindsay's mother would later describe the relationship
- 2:24Speaker 1: as troubled, characterizing Patrick as verbally abusive and controlling. Though
- 2:29Speaker 1: she said she had not witnessed him become physically violent,
- 2:32Speaker 1: according to her mother, Lindsay showed absolutely no signs of
- 2:36Speaker 1: suicidal ideation and had never attempted suicide. unbeknownst to Lindsay,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Patrick was also involved in an extramarital affair during this period.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So he's cheating on his wife. They have two young
- 2:49Speaker 1: children together. She's a teacher.
- 2:51Speaker 2: He's in the basement.
- 2:52Speaker 1: He's sleeping in the basement. Do you think, I'm just
- 2:55Speaker 1: going to ask you this because you're a man. I'm
- 2:57Speaker 1: going to get inside your head. Okay, so he's cheating
- 2:59Speaker 1: on his wife. She doesn't know that he's cheating. Mm-hmm.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Do you think he's creating marital problems because he wants
- 3:05Speaker 1: to get divorced, but he doesn't want to be the
- 3:07Speaker 1: one that says, I want to get divorced?
- 3:09Speaker 2: You mean I don't want to be the one that
- 3:10Speaker 2: says I'm going to get a divorce, so I'm going
- 3:12Speaker 2: to go cheat on you, and then that way I'm
- 3:14Speaker 2: going to? Or you mean you want to stay married?
- 3:16Speaker 1: I'm just saying when someone's cheating, they don't want to
- 3:19Speaker 1: be the bad guy. They want to keep it all
- 3:21Speaker 1: under wraps, right? So then they create problems in the marriage,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and then they're fighting a lot, and they're like, see,
- 3:26Speaker 1: this just doesn't work, and I'm going to sleep here,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and you sleep there.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I'm just not going to cheat.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:32Speaker 2: That's all I know.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So you're just not going to comment on this because
- 3:34Speaker 1: you just don't want to get yourself in trouble.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I don't know what it's like. I don't know what
- 3:37Speaker 2: it's like to be like, I'm going to sabotage that.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I mean, if I'm going to get a divorce, you
- 3:41Speaker 2: just get a divorce. You just separate and you just leave. Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 2: You don't like move into the basement and cheat on
- 3:48Speaker 2: her and then.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Murder her.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah. And go through all kinds of things. I don't know.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It just seems like, it's like, if you want to
- 3:55Speaker 2: quit your job, just quit your job. Right. Don't like,
- 3:58Speaker 2: go through all this trouble and cause issues and get
- 4:00Speaker 2: written up 20 times so you can get fired. Just
- 4:03Speaker 2: quit and collect benefits.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I knew you were going to say that the night
- 4:07Speaker 1: of August 12th. So this is in the early morning.
- 4:10Speaker 1: So it's the night of August 12th. And then the
- 4:12Speaker 1: early morning of August 13th, Patrick later told investigators that
- 4:15Speaker 1: he had gone to sleep in the basement as had
- 4:18Speaker 1: become his normal routine. While Lindsay slept in the main
- 4:21Speaker 1: bedroom upstairs, their two young children were also in the
- 4:25Speaker 1: home asleep. At some point during the night, investigators believe
- 4:29Speaker 1: Lindsay was attacked in her bedroom. Patrick told police that
- 4:33Speaker 1: he woke up around 5.30 a.m. and heard the shower running.
- 4:37Speaker 1: He said he went to check on the shower. I
- 4:39Speaker 1: don't know why he's checking on it. Like who checks
- 4:40Speaker 1: on a shower?
- 4:41Speaker 2: I think what I know is it had so much
- 4:43Speaker 2: time had passed according to him. So it's like, oh, wow,
- 4:46Speaker 2: she's been in there a while. Okay. So he goes
- 4:48Speaker 2: and checks on her. Right.
- 4:50Speaker 1: How long of a shower would I need to take
- 4:51Speaker 1: before you would check on me?
- 4:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't check on you.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You wouldn't check on me?
- 4:56Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 4:57Speaker 1: No? No.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Maybe I'd shout out like, hurry up. I don't know.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I would never think that you committed suicide. I better
- 5:05Speaker 2: go check because she might have committed suicide.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but I'm 50. I could have fallen in the shower.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I could have fallen.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So how long would I have to be in there
- 5:11Speaker 1: before you would finally come check on me?
- 5:14Speaker 2: You take baths.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I do.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:16Speaker 1: How long do I have to be in the bath
- 5:17Speaker 1: before you come check and see if I've drowned?
- 5:19Speaker 2: Every time you take a bath. Do I ever come?
- 5:21Speaker 2: Do I come in and check on you when you're
- 5:23Speaker 2: taking a bath? You do.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You bring me a towel.
- 5:24Speaker 2: There you go. So that's that.
- 5:25Speaker 1: All right. Um, so, okay. So the shower is going
- 5:28Speaker 1: on for a long period of time.
- 5:29Speaker 2: That's what I understood.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Five 30 to six. So 30 minutes, according to him
- 5:34Speaker 2: had passed. So he naturally goes checks on her.
- 5:37Speaker 1: All right. So he goes to check on Lindsay. He
- 5:38Speaker 1: claims that he found her in the shower covered in
- 5:41Speaker 1: blood and moved her head to check on her. He
- 5:44Speaker 1: claims he called nine one one shortly after 6.00 AM.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He reported that she had cut her own throat and
- 5:50Speaker 1: that there was a knife in the shower. When first
- 5:53Speaker 1: responders arrived, they found Lindsay in the main bathroom with
- 5:57Speaker 1: a severe laceration across her neck, which was approximately five
- 6:00Speaker 1: to six inches in length. And that had severed a
- 6:04Speaker 1: major artery.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Is that even a thing to commit suicide by way
- 6:07Speaker 2: of slitting your throat? Didn't we do a case where
- 6:09Speaker 2: she stabbed herself and it was kind of in the back.
- 6:12Speaker 2: So it was questionable whether she did it herself or not. Okay.
- 6:15Speaker 1: First of all, that was, there's two cause we talked
- 6:17Speaker 1: about Lindsay Clancy, remember? And we talked about how she
- 6:19Speaker 1: tried to commit suicide by cutting her throat.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Remember in the evidence was presented that like she was
- 6:25Speaker 1: right handed, but it looked like the cut had started
- 6:27Speaker 1: on the right side.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And then she had spoken to her husband when he
- 6:29Speaker 2: found her allegedly, but then she really couldn't speak when
- 6:32Speaker 2: she was taken into hospital care. Yes.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Then there was the other case. I believe her name
- 6:35Speaker 1: was Ellie Greenberg and she was the one that was
- 6:38Speaker 1: engaged to the boyfriend, but she was a teacher and
- 6:40Speaker 1: she was stressed out. She was having, um, mental issues
- 6:44Speaker 1: that day at school remember and then she went home
- 6:46Speaker 1: to the apartment he went down to work out in
- 6:48Speaker 1: the gym he came back the door was locked he
- 6:50Speaker 1: kicked the door in and then she had a lot
- 6:52Speaker 1: of superficial stab wounds in her back and neck and
- 6:55Speaker 1: then remember it went back and forth it was ruled
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know a lot of different things i my conclusion
- 7:00Speaker 1: at the end which is probably an unpopular opinion because
- 7:03Speaker 1: a lot of people thought it was the boyfriend that
- 7:05Speaker 1: did it but after everything i read and researched it
- 7:08Speaker 1: could have been it was her i thought that she.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Did in this case she slit her throat I mean,
- 7:13Speaker 2: I just don't know how probable that is. Well, that's
- 7:15Speaker 2: what I've said.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Even when we talk about Lindsay Clancy and even when
- 7:19Speaker 1: we've talked about other cases, I've said I feel like
- 7:21Speaker 1: that's such a horrific and violent way to take your
- 7:25Speaker 1: own life.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Well, it's also, I imagine, maybe difficult. Like you do
- 7:29Speaker 2: so and then you react and you stop.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know how anyone, I don't know. So
- 7:35Speaker 1: when first responders arrived, they found Lindsay in the bathroom
- 7:38Speaker 1: with a severe laceration across her neck. A serrated knife
- 7:43Speaker 1: with roughly a five inch blade was found beside her
- 7:46Speaker 1: body and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators
- 7:50Speaker 1: quickly noticed the details that did not fit Patrick's account
- 7:54Speaker 1: of a suicide. So in the bedroom, there was a
- 7:57Speaker 1: substantial amount of blood on the bed, sheets and pillows.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I mean, really.
- 8:03Speaker 2: That came from the shower?
- 8:04Speaker 1: Come on, Patrick. I know.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Like, don't insult us. Seriously, dude.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I mean, come on. If you're going to like make it,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you know, if you're going to say your wife committed
- 8:11Speaker 1: suicide in the shower.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, she could commit herself. She could have committed suicide
- 8:14Speaker 2: in the bed. Just the same. Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Like, don't. There can't be blood other places.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Right. A toppled plant with scattered dirt was present, pointing
- 8:24Speaker 1: toward the bathroom, and there was blood on the windowsill
- 8:26Speaker 1: as well. In between the rooms, a blood trail led
- 8:30Speaker 1: from the bed toward the bathroom, and forensic processing later
- 8:33Speaker 1: revealed additional blood evidence in the path that was not
- 8:37Speaker 1: visible to the naked eye. Obviously, they pulled out the,
- 8:39Speaker 1: because I watch forensic files, what did they get out?
- 8:42Speaker 1: The luminol. I want my own luminol. If I had luminol,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I would just take it everywhere with, I would just,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I would be spraying everything.
- 8:49Speaker 2: All the time. I would just be. You're going to
- 8:52Speaker 2: go over to like all the housewives homes and spray
- 8:54Speaker 2: luminol and be like, is there a murder here? Yes.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I want luminol. I want a belt.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I would make for a good episode. I want luminol
- 9:00Speaker 2: on both.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I want to pull the luminol out. I want to spray.
- 9:02Speaker 2: What about the ultraviolet lights?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Oh, I would love one of those, too.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I had one of those. You do? Yeah, my sister
- 9:08Speaker 2: gave me one. Wait, I live with you.
- 9:11Speaker 1: We're married. You have an alter. Well, I don't know.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I don't have it anymore. She gave it to me
- 9:15Speaker 2: like 10 years ago as like a birthday gift. And
- 9:17Speaker 2: it was like, take these to the hotel room. I
- 9:18Speaker 2: didn't want it. I threw it away. I don't want it.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Look at that. You threw it away?
- 9:21Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I kind of just set it aside
- 9:22Speaker 2: and lost it. I don't want to take it to
- 9:25Speaker 2: a hotel room and see.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Okay, we don't have to take it to a hotel.
- 9:28Speaker 1: We could take it to like... I don't want to.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Take it to our bedroom and see. Where am I
- 9:31Speaker 2: going to take it?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Like, you get invited to somebody's house for dinner and
- 9:34Speaker 1: then you'd say you have to go to the bathroom.
- 9:35Speaker 2: All right, everybody, turn off the lights. We're going to
- 9:37Speaker 2: play a game.
- 9:38Speaker 1: No, you sneak in their bedroom and then you just like.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Oh, and then you open the medicine cabinet too.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Is that what you do?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I do.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You don't?
- 9:45Speaker 2: No. No? No. All right, for everybody listening, don't invite
- 9:51Speaker 2: Emily to your house. You're going to look in your
- 9:53Speaker 2: medicine cabinet.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm going to bring an ultraviolet light and luminol as well.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So in the bathroom shower, there was comparatively little blood
- 10:07Speaker 1: surrounding Lindsay's body. In the actual shower itself, a detail
- 10:11Speaker 1: that struck detectives... As inconsistent with the neck wound being
- 10:15Speaker 1: inflicted in the shower, a small dainty footprint consistent with
- 10:19Speaker 1: a woman's foot was found beside the bed. Also, the
- 10:23Speaker 1: totality of the scene led detectives to conclude that Lindsay
- 10:26Speaker 1: had been killed in the bed and that her body
- 10:28Speaker 1: was then moved to the shower. So when questioned, Patrick
- 10:31Speaker 1: showed signs that undermined his account of what happened. And
- 10:35Speaker 1: detectives observed that Patrick, Patrick is just killing me here.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Patrick had fresh scratches and cuts on his upper arm, chest, abdomen,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and near his collarbone, which is described as consistent with
- 10:47Speaker 1: fingernail injuries, suggesting a physical struggle. He had a fresh
- 10:52Speaker 1: cut on his right thumb, which he claimed came from
- 10:54Speaker 1: the ultimate Frisbee tournament the weekend prior. Also, by the way,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I had to look up because I was reading about
- 11:00Speaker 1: this case. He met the girl he was having an
- 11:02Speaker 1: affair with. He met, they called it an ultimate disc event.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I had no idea what that was.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It's golf frisbee, like frisbee golf. Right.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 11:12Speaker 2: It's not a contact sport as far as I know.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Because the article that I was reading about him called
- 11:16Speaker 1: it ultimate disc, like D-I-S-C.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I was like, what is an ultimate disc event? I
- 11:19Speaker 2: think frisbee is like a trademark name owned by Wham-O. Oh.
- 11:23Speaker 2: As far as I know.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Full of just random information.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So I'm guessing you have to go with disc. Okay.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So he's an ultimate Frisbee player.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And his mistress, the girl he's having an affair with,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I believe she is too. And that's how they met.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So he claimed that he got this cut from his Frisbee. Mm-hmm.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And detectives noted that the injury appeared to be fresh.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But then he had all these other injuries.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Well, he scratched up. I know.
- 11:50Speaker 2: On his collarbone.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 1: So dried blood was found on his neck, extending into
- 11:55Speaker 1: his beard and a blood smear behind his right ear.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yet his hands were notably clean, which conflicted with his
- 12:00Speaker 1: claim of having moved Lindsay's head. While speaking with police,
- 12:04Speaker 1: Patrick was described as sobbing loudly, but producing no actual tears.
- 12:09Speaker 2: It's funny how tears is so important. Like, do you
- 12:12Speaker 2: always have to have tears?
- 12:14Speaker 1: Well, I think if you're going through the act of sobbing, like,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and then there's no actual tears, then that's indicative of
- 12:22Speaker 1: your acting, right?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. But you're saying if someone was this, like,
- 12:27Speaker 2: low-key kind of sad, that they don't have to have tears.
- 12:29Speaker 2: But if this guy's going to act out and be so...
- 12:32Speaker 2: Over the top, like.
- 12:33Speaker 1: You're suffering, but there's no tears, then that's weird. He
- 12:37Speaker 1: initially denied any infidelity. See, that's where you go wrong too.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Scott Peterson did the same thing. Remember where it's like,
- 12:43Speaker 1: our marriage is fine and amazing.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Chris Watts, everyone.
- 12:48Speaker 1: There's no infidelity.
- 12:49Speaker 2: And then it always, I don't know if it's going
- 12:51Speaker 2: to be this way, but then it always turns into, okay,
- 12:53Speaker 2: I did cheat, but she knew. She knew it was okay.
- 12:56Speaker 2: She was okay with it. But then why aren't you
- 12:57Speaker 2: telling us? Why are you hiding it from us?
- 12:59Speaker 1: She was fine with it. When pressed, Patrick acknowledged a
- 13:02Speaker 1: relationship with another woman, but claimed Lindsay had known about it.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. See, there we go.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And approved of it. Yep.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Checking all the boxes.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:10Speaker 2: She approved of it.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Approved of it.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah. She met her. She interviewed her. She approves of
- 13:15Speaker 2: my mistress.
- 13:16Speaker 1: They went to coffee.
- 13:16Speaker 2: She was very happy for me.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Right. All right. So the autopsy, the medical examiner's findings
- 13:22Speaker 1: added further weight to the murder theory. Beyond the fatal
- 13:25Speaker 1: neck laceration, Lindsay also had bruising on her arms, legs, back,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and hips. A fresh injury to her left eye. What?
- 13:33Speaker 1: A scratch on her right shoulder. And a cut on
- 13:36Speaker 1: her left index finger.
- 13:37Speaker 2: What's his explanation for those?
- 13:39Speaker 1: He has no explanation.
- 13:40Speaker 2: No kidding. The explanation is he did it.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Right. Several of these injuries were consistent with defensive wounds.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So then the afternoon, this is funny. I actually find
- 13:49Speaker 1: this comical. On August 13th, his girlfriend can't find him
- 13:54Speaker 1: because he's at the police station.
- 13:57Speaker 2: He's busy being interrogated.
- 13:59Speaker 1: She calls the police.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Does this report a missing person?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:05Speaker 2: She's like, this guy I'm cheating is cheating on his
- 14:09Speaker 2: wife with me. I can't find him.
- 14:11Speaker 1: He's not answering his phone.
- 14:12Speaker 2: He's right here. Would you like to speak to him? Yes.
- 14:16Speaker 2: He's in this room.
- 14:16Speaker 1: He's in room 12.
- 14:17Speaker 2: He won't talk. Can you get him to talk, please?
- 14:20Speaker 1: So she calls the police station asking for a welfare
- 14:22Speaker 1: check because she's been trying to get a hold of
- 14:24Speaker 1: Patrick and he's not responding.
- 14:25Speaker 2: She's doing a welfare check on the wrong person. Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Right. She told police that Patrick had told her he
- 14:30Speaker 1: was in the process of divorcing Lindsay and that Lindsay
- 14:33Speaker 1: was no longer living in the home.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I bet you a million bucks he never filed nothing
- 14:38Speaker 2: and he didn't do anything yet in the process of. No.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Because you wouldn't have to tell someone you're in the
- 14:42Speaker 2: process of if there's legal filings. It would be like,
- 14:45Speaker 2: we're getting a divorce. I filed for a divorce. You
- 14:47Speaker 2: wouldn't be like, process means like, you know, I was
- 14:50Speaker 2: planning it. You're just trying to make it like you're
- 14:52Speaker 2: moving forward with it, but you weren't. Right.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Also, by the way, I didn't mention this earlier, but
- 14:57Speaker 1: their names are Patrick and Lindsay, which is the same
- 14:59Speaker 1: exact names as Lindsay Clancy and her husband, Patrick. So anyway,
- 15:04Speaker 1: that's just a fun fact. Just thought I'd throw out there.
- 15:06Speaker 2: That was fun. Thank you.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Fun fact. So we get to the arrest that evening.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I mean, this didn't take long. I mean, she was
- 15:13Speaker 1: murdered on August 12th. And by August 13th, Patrick's getting arrested.
- 15:18Speaker 1: He did not do a good job.
- 15:19Speaker 2: He's a suspect, and he's a victim as a missing person.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He's also missing.
- 15:32Speaker 1: That evening, so this is a day later, I mean,
- 15:34Speaker 1: Patrick wasn't even able to stage the crime scene enough
- 15:37Speaker 1: to keep the police at bay for just a couple days. Mm-hmm.
- 15:41Speaker 1: That evening, the police arrested Patrick during a traffic stop
- 15:44Speaker 1: in Evergreen, Colorado. He was booked into Jefferson County Jail
- 15:47Speaker 1: and held without bond. The First Judicial District Attorney's Office
- 15:52Speaker 1: reviewed the investigation and filed three felony charges against Patrick Barnett.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Murder in the first degree, tampering with a deceased human body,
- 16:02Speaker 1: and tampering with physical evidence. When you murder someone, isn't
- 16:06Speaker 1: there always a tampering charge? With the deceased human body.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I mean, if you move the body.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Unless you're like a real innocent murderer, like you killed
- 16:14Speaker 2: the person. And then just ran away. Yeah, you made
- 16:15Speaker 2: sure you didn't touch anything.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And you're like, I didn't touch him.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And you put the yellow tape around to preserve the
- 16:19Speaker 2: crime scene. Right. Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Because I'm saying if you murder someone, if you touch
- 16:23Speaker 1: the body or hide the body or move the body or.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I guess maybe intent. It's the intent, like what you
- 16:28Speaker 2: were trying to do as opposed to, I don't know.
- 16:30Speaker 2: does that even matter? All those little lesser charges. No,
- 16:33Speaker 2: I feel like they just, they just murdered. Let's focus
- 16:36Speaker 2: on that.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I think they just throw on as many charges as
- 16:39Speaker 1: they can.
- 16:39Speaker 2: You know, it's like when they do like a car chase,
- 16:42Speaker 2: you know, and the guy's like violent, he's all over
- 16:44Speaker 2: the place. Even if he's like shooting at the cops
- 16:45Speaker 2: and everything, And then the list of charges might include
- 16:49Speaker 2: failure to yield, not wearing a seatbelt, stuff like that,
- 16:53Speaker 2: tinted windows.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I assume they put all those charges in there, too,
- 16:56Speaker 1: because if they try to negotiate a plea deal, then
- 16:59Speaker 1: it's like, okay, well, we'll take out all these lesser charges,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but not the capital murder charge.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Is this capital murder?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Murder in the first degree. Oh, yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Oh, Colorado to December.
- 17:14Speaker 1: No death penalty?
- 17:14Speaker 2: I don't think so. Not Colorado. They're the first ones
- 17:17Speaker 2: to legalize pot. Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 1: They don't kill people there.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yeah. All right.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So it's just murder in the first degree, not capital murder. Correct.
- 17:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So August 20th through the 21st, this is a court
- 17:28Speaker 1: appearance and a family statement. Patrick made his first court
- 17:32Speaker 1: appearance with a status hearing in Jefferson County. Lindsay's family
- 17:35Speaker 1: released a public statement around this time. Her mother made
- 17:38Speaker 1: clear that Lindsay had no history of suicidal ideation and
- 17:42Speaker 1: and that Patrick's claims of suicide were false. Colleagues and
- 17:46Speaker 1: her school principal publicly mourned her loss, describing her as
- 17:50Speaker 1: an extraordinary teacher with dedication to her students. Patrick Barnett
- 17:56Speaker 1: remains held without bond in Jefferson County Jail as of
- 18:00Speaker 1: right now, and the case is ongoing. So obviously we
- 18:03Speaker 1: will continue to follow this case and hopefully the trial,
- 18:07Speaker 1: unless he takes some kind of plea deal, but he'll
- 18:09Speaker 1: go to trial soon. And we will continue to follow it.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Do you have something to add to this?
- 18:13Speaker 2: I looked up Colorado. They abolished it in 2020 when
- 18:16Speaker 2: the governor signed an executive order of some sort, abolishing
- 18:19Speaker 2: it and then commuting everyone's sentence from death row to
- 18:22Speaker 2: a life without parole.
- 18:23Speaker 1: To life without parole.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Which I remember, I think the governor of Illinois did
- 18:28Speaker 2: the same thing when someone was exonerated on death row.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I believe it was Illinois. He said that how many
- 18:34Speaker 2: other people on death row should not be here. And
- 18:37Speaker 2: so he He didn't abolish it, but in the end
- 18:41Speaker 2: of his term, he commuted everyone's sentence and just put
- 18:44Speaker 2: them on life.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Because he said, I don't want any blood on my hands.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I agree with that. When someone's on death row and
- 18:50Speaker 1: then they're exonerated, not just time served, but exonerated, meaning there's-
- 18:56Speaker 1: Not guilty.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Meaning that there's evidence or some DNA evidence that came
- 19:00Speaker 1: out later to completely nullify the fact that they did
- 19:04Speaker 1: not commit the crime.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And then, but they were on death row.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Like they were in line to be executed. Right. Then
- 19:11Speaker 1: I can understand that where you're like, I just, let's just,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm going to get rid of it. Like we'll just commute.
- 19:16Speaker 2: We'll just commute. Everybody sends.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Keep them in jail. That's fine. Right.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Well, predictions. Is he going to plea out?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Well, I can't imagine that he'd say, let's go to
- 19:27Speaker 1: trial and let me prove my innocence.
- 19:28Speaker 2: At the same time, I can't imagine the prosecutor saying,
- 19:31Speaker 2: let's try to negotiate. Yeah. Because they're like, we have
- 19:34Speaker 2: all the evidence we need. Tough luck.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Well, we'll continue to follow. This is the Lindsay and
- 19:39Speaker 1: Patrick case.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Not Clancy.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It's the Barnetts. Okay. Do you have a final thought?
- 19:45Speaker 2: This guy was the worst.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Right?
- 19:47Speaker 2: He was sloppy. Sloppy. I would want to know, like,
- 19:51Speaker 2: did he... I imagine he killed her in the heat
- 19:54Speaker 2: of the moment.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I would imagine that, too.
- 19:56Speaker 2: He's a killer. I'm not lessening that.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 2: But something happened. It got heated. It got physical. He
- 20:03Speaker 2: ended up killing her, slicing her neck, whatever. And then thought, oh, crap,
- 20:07Speaker 2: I got to put her in the shower? The shower.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The shower.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah. And then he thought... I'll put the knife next
- 20:12Speaker 2: to her. Then how did he want to explain the blood?
- 20:16Speaker 1: He's not right.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Mark Hacking, remember in Utah? He killed his wife in bed.
- 20:20Speaker 2: At least he went and bought a new mattress.
- 20:22Speaker 1: He did buy a new mattress. He's like, I got
- 20:23Speaker 1: to cover this up. Yeah, he did buy a new mattress. No, Patrick,
- 20:27Speaker 1: this Patrick, he just put her in the shower and
- 20:29Speaker 1: laid the knife next to her.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And then called police. Right. And was like, I didn't
- 20:33Speaker 1: do it. And I'm not having an affair. Right.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know.
