- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes five seventy two through five seventy four.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Many problems lie ahead, a trap awaiting in the New World.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Finally time to go, goodbye Fishman Island and to the
- 0:22Speaker 1: New World, heading for the Ultimate Sea. In these episodes,
- 0:29Speaker 1: our friends just have their final moments at Fishman Island.
- 0:34Speaker 1: There's another like sort of weird emergency happening with the
- 0:39Speaker 1: tamate box, and yet they leave and we don't really
- 0:44Speaker 1: get to see what happened with that. Welcome to spoil Me.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:12Speaker 1: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode, and Florian,
- 1:16Speaker 1: as usual is here in the chat with me. Apologies
- 1:20Speaker 1: for being late. Trying to set up my new computer
- 1:24Speaker 1: did not work out on the first try, so I
- 1:27Speaker 1: had to go get my old one and rehook it
- 1:29Speaker 1: up to everything and get started there on the older one.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So a little bit of a delay, but I'm here,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and I actually so Here's one of the things that
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm mixed about these three episodes, mostly because it takes
- 1:49Speaker 1: so long for our friends to get going, and I
- 1:52Speaker 1: have just been very eager for this particular arc to end,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and I really expected that we were going to be
- 2:02Speaker 1: leaving on the first of these three episodes. Nevertheless, I'm
- 2:07Speaker 1: glad we're getting out of there, but I am really
- 2:10Speaker 1: like the whole thing with her name is Big Mama,
- 2:13Speaker 1: Is that right? It's odd how she's being sort of
- 2:20Speaker 1: like set up as probably having a grudge against them
- 2:24Speaker 1: because of this box, but we don't actually get the
- 2:29Speaker 1: fallout from that. It's just sort of put out there
- 2:31Speaker 1: as something to be worried about. But then our friends
- 2:34Speaker 1: move on somewhat quickly, which I was expecting this to
- 2:40Speaker 1: delay them even more from leaving, and I'm kind of
- 2:43Speaker 1: relieved to find that that isn't how it went. So
- 2:49Speaker 1: all right, let's start from the three or with the
- 2:53Speaker 1: first of these three episodes. Many problems lie ahead a
- 2:58Speaker 1: trap in the New World, and this, like the fact
- 3:07Speaker 1: that Lufy has given away the treasure, turns out to
- 3:11Speaker 1: be a bit of an issue here because there is
- 3:17Speaker 1: an explosive that I think the right hand Minister is
- 3:22Speaker 1: the one who's talking to them, is he the one
- 3:24Speaker 1: that's the sea horse, But he is talking about how
- 3:30Speaker 1: grateful they are for saving Big Mom says Floren, Okay,
- 3:33Speaker 1: cool about how grateful they are for saving Fishman Island
- 3:38Speaker 1: and made them some tea, and it's just chatting with
- 3:41Speaker 1: them before they leave. And the mention of the fact
- 3:45Speaker 1: that they're going to be leaving is deeply distressing to
- 3:50Speaker 1: the princess, who she spends a lot of time crying
- 3:53Speaker 1: in these episodes. And Guys, I am going to stand
- 3:56Speaker 1: by the fact that I'm a little hopeful that despite
- 3:59Speaker 1: her her apparently larger role as like this incredibly powerful weapon,
- 4:06Speaker 1: that we won't have to see her very much, or
- 4:10Speaker 1: at least for a while, because it's something that I
- 4:14Speaker 1: become a little bit more aware of when Owen is home,
- 4:17Speaker 1: especially when he comes home to take a nap. But
- 4:20Speaker 1: I notice it by myself, of course, it's just I
- 4:23Speaker 1: get more conscious of it. Her voice is so piercing.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It's even more piercing than like Choppers, and Chopper at
- 4:34Speaker 1: least has a sort of like it's high pitched, but
- 4:37Speaker 1: there's also like a throatiness to it that sort of
- 4:39Speaker 1: brings it down a notch. But the princesses, and this
- 4:43Speaker 1: is obviously for the dub I have no idea, you know,
- 4:46Speaker 1: with the original voice actress if it's the same thing.
- 4:49Speaker 1: But I find myself like recoiling when she begins speaking,
- 4:56Speaker 1: especially when she's crying, because it's so shred and piercing
- 5:02Speaker 1: that I don't even hear what she's saying because I
- 5:07Speaker 1: am distracted by my pain from her voice. So I'm
- 5:13Speaker 1: just we make a pinky swear that we're gonna come back,
- 5:17Speaker 1: and I was just like, oh God, I knew we
- 5:20Speaker 1: were going to have to deal with her again based
- 5:22Speaker 1: on the nature of the role she's going to apparently
- 5:25Speaker 1: serve in the larger story, but still so in this scene,
- 5:32Speaker 1: it's Robin, Nammy, and Oosop who are all gathered together.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Frankie is still he has got off to deal with
- 5:41Speaker 1: the ship, and there are some other stuff apparently no
- 5:43Speaker 1: me says that he's learning to do with it. And
- 5:46Speaker 1: then the Minister gets the list of valuables that were
- 5:50Speaker 1: stolen out of the treasure chamber, and he is surprised
- 5:54Speaker 1: at how many things have been taken, and he realizes
- 5:59Speaker 1: that the matte box is part of the list and
- 6:02Speaker 1: gets this expression on his face. So he has decided,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and I'm a little bit confused on this, you guys,
- 6:15Speaker 1: He says, like after it was stolen ten years ago,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and that was Horty that stole it ten years ago, correct,
- 6:23Speaker 1: So is the addition of this explosive to the box
- 6:27Speaker 1: like a pretty new thing that he just recently did,
- 6:34Speaker 1: And it's just sort of you know, the thing that
- 6:37Speaker 1: I kept thinking was when did you find the time
- 6:39Speaker 1: to even do this at this point? Like everything is
- 6:42Speaker 1: so hectic, you know. But his concern, understandably when he
- 6:48Speaker 1: goes and talks to the King, is that our friends,
- 6:51Speaker 1: the straw Hats, saved our asses, and we just gave them,
- 6:55Speaker 1: unknowingly a booby trapped gift that could kill them, and
- 7:02Speaker 1: how are we going to make sure that they don't
- 7:04Speaker 1: open it? When the straw Hats return, they're very relieved
- 7:11Speaker 1: because it seems like they haven't opened it yet, so
- 7:13Speaker 1: we're gonna have the chance to tell them now. But
- 7:16Speaker 1: then there is the added twist of Loofy having given
- 7:22Speaker 1: over all of the treasure to Big Mom and doing
- 7:27Speaker 1: this to appease her, which means that very likely, and
- 7:33Speaker 1: I would, of course were i her, Big Mom is
- 7:36Speaker 1: going to interpret this as a purposeful trap, that she
- 7:41Speaker 1: is being disrespected, that he said, you can take all
- 7:44Speaker 1: of this treasure just because he knew that there was
- 7:48Speaker 1: a bomb planted in there and he was fucking with her.
- 7:52Speaker 1: We know that this is not how Loofy functions, but
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know, there's no reason to assume the best of
- 8:00Speaker 1: him if you don't know him. So yeah, we're starting
- 8:03Speaker 1: off this sort of beef that it's I think it's
- 8:10Speaker 1: just explained enough for me that it's skating past one
- 8:16Speaker 1: of my least favorite tropes, which is beef that begins
- 8:20Speaker 1: with a complete misunderstanding, which has been for those who
- 8:26Speaker 1: are listening to my coverage of House at the Dragon
- 8:28Speaker 1: with Rashaan a big complaint for me in that show,
- 8:32Speaker 1: because I have felt like we had in the original
- 8:36Speaker 1: material a couple of characters that were ambitious and grasping,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and I found it very interesting to see because women
- 8:42Speaker 1: characters aren't portrayed that way often. And then the show
- 8:46Speaker 1: made it that, oh, they're both really good people who
- 8:50Speaker 1: just misunderstood each other and got caught up by accident
- 8:54Speaker 1: pretty much, and I don't really have a lot of
- 8:57Speaker 1: patience for that. So the fact that this is sort
- 9:00Speaker 1: of like we're starting a beef because of this misunderstanding
- 9:03Speaker 1: at the very least, the bomb was set up in
- 9:09Speaker 1: order to stop somebody opening that BT, and it's just
- 9:12Speaker 1: a sort of series of events. But the whole way
- 9:15Speaker 1: that we've come to this point feels reasonable enough that
- 9:20Speaker 1: I am willing to let go of it. And I
- 9:25Speaker 1: love that Nami. She has this whole scene where she's
- 9:28Speaker 1: like telling Loofy that she understands why he did what
- 9:32Speaker 1: he did and that he was probably didn't have another
- 9:36Speaker 1: choice and he was doing what he thought was right,
- 9:38Speaker 1: and she seems like she's going to be really reasonable
- 9:40Speaker 1: about it, and then she just beats him on the
- 9:42Speaker 1: head and is like, but you didn't have to give
- 9:45Speaker 1: all of it away, which is true, that's fair. This
- 9:50Speaker 1: is the kind of thing that I always like struggled
- 9:53Speaker 1: with when I was a kid. Whenever there's a show,
- 9:56Speaker 1: whether that be like a a TV show or well,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'll say mostly this happened with television shows just because
- 10:07Speaker 1: it was such a comedy stereotype like this was one
- 10:12Speaker 1: of those really tropy storylines was oh my god, our
- 10:17Speaker 1: favorite characters won the lottery, and anytime that would happen,
- 10:22Speaker 1: even though I would like hope and pray as a
- 10:24Speaker 1: kid that they got to keep it and just live
- 10:26Speaker 1: out the fantasy that I wanted as a child of
- 10:28Speaker 1: having unlimited money. Of course, by the end of the episode,
- 10:33Speaker 1: something has to happen so that they don't win the lottery,
- 10:36Speaker 1: or they lose the ticket, or something stupid happens and
- 10:40Speaker 1: it all goes out the window because we have to
- 10:43Speaker 1: reset back to ground zero for the start of the
- 10:47Speaker 1: next episode. For sitcoms, and this show, of course, does
- 10:52Speaker 1: this a lot where we have all of this this
- 10:56Speaker 1: treasure and then something occurs in which they get completely
- 10:59Speaker 1: wiped out, and the one time that doesn't happen, we
- 11:05Speaker 1: end up with this dope ship. So it's not like
- 11:07Speaker 1: that wasn't we haven't always had that happen with this show.
- 11:11Speaker 1: There have been times where they have been able to
- 11:15Speaker 1: indulge and get some really cool shit, But oftentimes we
- 11:21Speaker 1: have to keep our friends from getting too wealthy or
- 11:26Speaker 1: any sort of financial obstacle isn't really going to be
- 11:29Speaker 1: a problem for them later in the show, and you
- 11:31Speaker 1: kind of need that to be a problem in order
- 11:34Speaker 1: for other things to work out, Florian said. Lufy also
- 11:40Speaker 1: said he will make Fishman Island his territory, so he
- 11:43Speaker 1: has beef with Big Mom already. I would say that's fair. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 1: that's fair. But the problem is though if he gave
- 11:50Speaker 1: her the treasure, it would feel like at least the
- 11:54Speaker 1: beef is like a little bit on hold. But because
- 11:58Speaker 1: of what might happen with her open the box, it's
- 12:03Speaker 1: like likely that she'll take out her wrath on Fishman
- 12:07Speaker 1: Island if she can't find Loofy, which is a really
- 12:12Speaker 1: that's a bummer side effect for Fishman Island after everything
- 12:15Speaker 1: that has happened. Now, when the what am I calling
- 12:21Speaker 1: him the counselor the minister minister? When he goes and
- 12:26Speaker 1: speaks to the king, he shares his own concerns that
- 12:29Speaker 1: are you know exactly what I just said of just
- 12:31Speaker 1: like but she's going to be so mad though, And
- 12:35Speaker 1: basically the King is like, hey, Bud, don't worry, we
- 12:41Speaker 1: have seventy thousand new soldiers that we got out of
- 12:49Speaker 1: I keep wanting to say flea bottom because that's like,
- 12:52Speaker 1: you know, the dregs of society in the Song of
- 12:55Speaker 1: Ice and Buyer Universe, But from the Fishman District, guys,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I feel like you got to know what I'm gonna
- 13:03Speaker 1: say to this probably, but it is just so wild
- 13:09Speaker 1: to me that the happy ending for the inequality in
- 13:14Speaker 1: Fishman Island is to like just shut down a whole
- 13:19Speaker 1: area and make people leave their homes and we're just
- 13:22Speaker 1: gonna act like there are no families living there, that
- 13:24Speaker 1: it's all just bad criminal men and make them all
- 13:31Speaker 1: become soldiers. Which is I mean, it is this the best, Like,
- 13:39Speaker 1: it's just so true to how the real world works
- 13:43Speaker 1: in terms of the only way out for a lot
- 13:45Speaker 1: of people who are in bad positions and don't have
- 13:49Speaker 1: options other than going into the military if they want
- 13:52Speaker 1: to be able to go to college, you know. And
- 13:56Speaker 1: the fact that we're in this fantasy universe where ostensibly
- 14:02Speaker 1: there could be any neat number of ways of dealing
- 14:06Speaker 1: with this problem, and yet the author so profoundly lacked
- 14:11Speaker 1: the imagination to do something more interesting when he has
- 14:16Speaker 1: wild imagination regarding so many other things. With the story,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I find it just very revealing. I feel like it's
- 14:25Speaker 1: it's actually truly sad because it's just like it just
- 14:33Speaker 1: always feels like, are we doing this again? Really, this
- 14:36Speaker 1: is what we've come up with. And so the fact
- 14:39Speaker 1: that he's like, oh, don't worry about it if she
- 14:41Speaker 1: has beef with us. We have all of these like
- 14:44Speaker 1: dudes that we've basically conscripted into service out I it
- 14:50Speaker 1: just that is not a solution to me. But that
- 14:56Speaker 1: is what he says to the minister and to Jimbay,
- 15:00Speaker 1: because Jimbay is talking to him about how he himself
- 15:04Speaker 1: has an agreement, and Jimmy says something interesting that's like, basically,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I don't have a written contract, but I have a
- 15:15Speaker 1: verbal agreement, and those are harder to break, which I
- 15:20Speaker 1: wasn't entirely sure if like, I feel like it's just
- 15:23Speaker 1: sort of supposed to be that he promised, and a
- 15:28Speaker 1: promise person to person is meant to be like much
- 15:33Speaker 1: more honorable to like, your honor depends more on keeping
- 15:39Speaker 1: that kind of promise than it does on honoring a
- 15:42Speaker 1: business arrangement, which I guess I don't. It's whatever the case,
- 15:53Speaker 1: he is going to break off of this agreement and
- 15:58Speaker 1: try and team up with Loofy again. Well again, he's
- 16:03Speaker 1: going to leave with Lufy as a straw hat for
- 16:05Speaker 1: the first time, but he's going to be helping Lufy again,
- 16:08Speaker 1: because that is really how The War the Best wound
- 16:12Speaker 1: up going the direction it did, so I consider gen
- 16:14Speaker 1: Bee as having worked with Lufy already Florian says, yeah, again,
- 16:20Speaker 1: Oda had the right idea, but the execution is clunky.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Also true that is true to life. Yikes, Yeah, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 1: it's it's the sort of thing that it's funny because
- 16:30Speaker 1: I have just reached a point of such complete frustration
- 16:33Speaker 1: with the way that our society is set up that
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm fully in on universal basic income. I just don't
- 16:40Speaker 1: see the harm in it. And it's the kind of
- 16:43Speaker 1: thing that's practically a curse word in front of certain people,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and for me, that's the solution. You give them money,
- 16:52Speaker 1: and we just don't. There's something about Americans specifically, and
- 16:59Speaker 1: I think think sort of like Western attitudes, that we
- 17:07Speaker 1: don't want to admit that a problem can genuinely be
- 17:11Speaker 1: solved by throwing money at it when it's like a
- 17:13Speaker 1: societal problem based in poverty, because we see that as
- 17:17Speaker 1: sort of vulgar and also erases the fault from the equation,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and we really want to be able to blame the
- 17:27Speaker 1: poor for their own poverty. So if we are proved
- 17:33Speaker 1: wrong that the poor are capable of doing like some
- 17:37Speaker 1: incredible things, if they are given the resources to not
- 17:40Speaker 1: simply be surviving and scraping by now, we've got to
- 17:44Speaker 1: face all of these other prejudices that we have had
- 17:47Speaker 1: about the poor this whole time, and that really up
- 17:50Speaker 1: ends this hierarchy that we have in our mind about
- 17:53Speaker 1: how the rich or rich, because they deserve to be there,
- 17:56Speaker 1: they deserve to have more, and that just really isn't
- 18:00Speaker 1: something that the hierarchy we currently have is willing to tolerate.
- 18:07Speaker 1: We have got to just completely go in on banging
- 18:11Speaker 1: that drum about how if the rich or if the
- 18:14Speaker 1: poor just stopped getting Starbucks every day, how much money
- 18:18Speaker 1: could they save. And it's so funny how disconnected that is,
- 18:20Speaker 1: because I remember the stop getting coffee every day thing
- 18:25Speaker 1: that was always circulated when I was young, like in
- 18:29Speaker 1: the early two thousands, when I was just starting off
- 18:32Speaker 1: going to college and I was breaking off on my
- 18:35Speaker 1: own and needing to manage my own budget, that like,
- 18:38Speaker 1: stopped buying coffee every day. Argument got like it was
- 18:44Speaker 1: just touted as this. It was a very condescending, patronizing
- 18:52Speaker 1: thing to say. And I really took it at the
- 18:55Speaker 1: time for granted that they were saying this because this
- 18:58Speaker 1: was something that people genuinely I knew. I didn't, but
- 19:02Speaker 1: I was like, well, that must be something that a
- 19:04Speaker 1: lot of people struggle with or else it wouldn't be
- 19:06Speaker 1: the touchstone recommendation that everybody makes. And it wasn't until
- 19:11Speaker 1: I started to get older that I was like, there
- 19:14Speaker 1: are very few people that go get themselves a five
- 19:18Speaker 1: dollars coffee every morning, that is not especially these days,
- 19:22Speaker 1: like most of us don't have the luxury of doing that.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I've stopped going to Starbucks altogether in light of everything
- 19:29Speaker 1: with Palestine. But even if we had like a local
- 19:33Speaker 1: coffee shop, that would be a treat, you know. But anyway,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I'm totally off topic here as usual, So here I
- 19:40Speaker 1: am okay, I'm going to back up a little bit
- 19:44Speaker 1: and go to Wet Hair Caribou again and Florian correct
- 19:51Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong. But we like don't really see
- 19:57Speaker 1: what happens to wet hair Caribou once our friends lead
- 20:00Speaker 1: Fishman Island Dew. We because what basically, Caribou wakes up
- 20:05Speaker 1: and he is like in this I don't even know.
- 20:07Speaker 1: He's in some alley or something, and he is really
- 20:11Speaker 1: feeling himself because he thinks that he still has all
- 20:14Speaker 1: of these treasures inside his body. Because reminder, he turns
- 20:20Speaker 1: into like mud basically, so it like he reaches into
- 20:26Speaker 1: his own chest to find it and it's not there.
- 20:30Speaker 1: He is outraged at this and is looking around for like,
- 20:36Speaker 1: who could have possibly stolen it? I really do enjoy
- 20:40Speaker 1: how much he's like emphasizing the fact that they stole
- 20:45Speaker 1: something that I fairly stole and finders keepers kind of thing.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So eventually, when he is perusing the crowds out on
- 20:55Speaker 1: the street, he comes to see these two do dudes
- 21:01Speaker 1: who are working for Big Mom, and they are carrying
- 21:05Speaker 1: all of this treasure and he mistakenly thinks that these
- 21:10Speaker 1: guys stole it from him, when we know it was
- 21:14Speaker 1: actually fairly given, and he comes up on them, and
- 21:22Speaker 1: it's like a funny scene because this guy, all he
- 21:27Speaker 1: ever does, there's a real sort of overlap in his
- 21:33Speaker 1: attitude as there is Tizio's attitude. But just Fishman or
- 21:40Speaker 1: Fishman white Hair Caribou is never ever in doubt of
- 21:47Speaker 1: the fact that he can be whoever he is about
- 21:50Speaker 1: to go up against, and even after having his ass
- 21:55Speaker 1: handed to him repeatedly recently, he is so sure every
- 22:00Speaker 1: time he does anything that like he's going to really
- 22:04Speaker 1: make an impression and they'll be sorry there's no fear
- 22:06Speaker 1: in him at all. It's all. It's completely like i'd
- 22:13Speaker 1: driven and uh so, yeah, he's running down the street
- 22:17Speaker 1: and he sees the lion and the eggman and he's
- 22:22Speaker 1: shouting at them like how dare you steal this? And
- 22:26Speaker 1: h the two of them seem coming and are just
- 22:28Speaker 1: like what is this guy's deal? Like, oh, you know,
- 22:32Speaker 1: like he can't come at us, and he attempts this gatling.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I was surprised that he also himself has a gatling power.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I don't remember if we have seen this before, but
- 22:46Speaker 1: I didn't remember it. And so Caribou tries this, and
- 22:51Speaker 1: you know, it's one of those things where the gatling
- 22:53Speaker 1: is just going and going and going. For a second,
- 22:56Speaker 1: all of this like smoke begins to billow up and
- 22:59Speaker 1: it skewers the lion. And then when it clears, you're
- 23:04Speaker 1: expecting to see the lion like laid out, covered in
- 23:07Speaker 1: bumps and bandages, but instead he is inside a turtle shell.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And so it turns out that he is a zone
- 23:20Speaker 1: type of what do you call it? Oh, my god,
- 23:26Speaker 1: devil fruit eater, devil fruit power owner? What do you call? Like?
- 23:32Speaker 1: How is that usually worded? I guess it's just like
- 23:37Speaker 1: he has devil fruit powers. But there's not really like
- 23:40Speaker 1: a shorthand verb or noun for it is there that
- 23:45Speaker 1: I know of. But yeah, so he has this ability
- 23:49Speaker 1: and like the gatling when Lufy does a gatling, I
- 23:53Speaker 1: you know, his whole thing is actually using his arms
- 23:56Speaker 1: in just a very repetitive sort of manner that has
- 24:00Speaker 1: the like percussion percussive quality of a galling. But what
- 24:06Speaker 1: hair caribou is actually like armed with. I don't know
- 24:12Speaker 1: if it's supposed to be that the mud turns into
- 24:15Speaker 1: this galing. I think that's what it's supposed to be,
- 24:18Speaker 1: although it genuinely looks like it's metal when he's using it.
- 24:22Speaker 1: The whole thing, the fact that this is something that
- 24:25Speaker 1: can be done with a mud power doesn't entirely ring
- 24:30Speaker 1: true to me. I mean, there's actual fire coming out
- 24:33Speaker 1: of the barrels of this gun. But nevertheless, I did
- 24:38Speaker 1: think it was funny because like he clearly thought he
- 24:43Speaker 1: ate and he's just yelling like that's what you get
- 24:46Speaker 1: when you like steal from me. And when this dude
- 24:50Speaker 1: gets up and I had thought I didn't realize it
- 24:52Speaker 1: was a turtle shell for a second, I thought that
- 24:54Speaker 1: it was a armadillo because his little tail is sticking out.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It just very much looked like an arm And you know,
- 25:02Speaker 1: but this lion stands up and just punches the living
- 25:10Speaker 1: daylights out of Cariboo in a really satisfying moment. This dude,
- 25:19Speaker 1: it is not nothing. I think that he has used
- 25:24Speaker 1: hockey to do it, if I'm not mistaken. Like it
- 25:27Speaker 1: felt like there was more to this than just a
- 25:29Speaker 1: regular punch. And the way that Cariboo goes down, he
- 25:34Speaker 1: is really out. You know. So this guy is uh.
- 25:40Speaker 1: He says, the people with logia powers always end up
- 25:44Speaker 1: dying young because you fools think that this power makes
- 25:48Speaker 1: you completely invincible, which was a really interesting observation. I
- 25:57Speaker 1: feel like I could definitely see that happening for myself.
- 26:03Speaker 1: You know, I am, unfortunately somebody who can get complacent
- 26:07Speaker 1: about things because I have a tendency to one laziness
- 26:12Speaker 1: and two if I get something to a place that
- 26:15Speaker 1: I like it, I don't want to change anything. And
- 26:18Speaker 1: so yeah, I could definitely see getting a power and
- 26:21Speaker 1: just kind of taking for granted that like I'll be
- 26:24Speaker 1: able to fight anybody, no problem. But yeah, this dude,
- 26:29Speaker 1: really it's embarrassing and like I feel that wet hair caribou.
- 26:37Speaker 1: When he is left on that street, that is the
- 26:40Speaker 1: last that we see of him. So my concern is
- 26:44Speaker 1: that he has found a way to stow away on
- 26:49Speaker 1: the sunny and I hope I'm wrong, because I don't
- 26:54Speaker 1: like this guy. He's not even like a fun villain anymore.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I I really kind of want to leave mostly everything
- 27:03Speaker 1: from this arc behind, including this dude. I don't know
- 27:10Speaker 1: if he had stowed away, if we would have seen
- 27:13Speaker 1: him by now. I feel like probably he would just
- 27:17Speaker 1: hang out until they reach land somewhere, and then he
- 27:20Speaker 1: would sneak off on land by himself because he can
- 27:23Speaker 1: use them for transport. But he knows that he is
- 27:26Speaker 1: no match for Loofy at this point, and so he
- 27:29Speaker 1: wouldn't want any of that smoke, so he would just
- 27:31Speaker 1: try and, like Alex Mackett, onto the ship somewhere as
- 27:36Speaker 1: like a puddle of mud. That was a band, wasn't it. Anyway.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Everybody who sees this fight on the street are really
- 27:45Speaker 1: really impressed, and apparently weren't aware of what Big Mom
- 27:49Speaker 1: was able to do, or not her specifically, but like
- 27:53Speaker 1: the caliber of her henchmen is a lot higher than
- 27:56Speaker 1: they were ever expecting. So it's a very uh, sobering
- 28:01Speaker 1: moment for all of them. So that scene ends, and
- 28:06Speaker 1: this is the moment when we have the whole like
- 28:09Speaker 1: royal procession, I guess, bringing the straw hats to the
- 28:17Speaker 1: sunny where Frankie is waiting with the weirdest hair. It
- 28:21Speaker 1: looks sort of like the antlers on a beetle that
- 28:25Speaker 1: are also pincers sometimes, and all of the folks who
- 28:30Speaker 1: are in this town are watching them and cheering for
- 28:34Speaker 1: them and just like really really excited to see them off.
- 28:39Speaker 1: And then we get the narration and we switch over
- 28:46Speaker 1: to the Marines on the surface, and I was a
- 28:52Speaker 1: little bit confused. There's just some times, you guys, with
- 28:58Speaker 1: the way that this show jumps from our friends to
- 29:02Speaker 1: stuff going on with the higher ups in the government,
- 29:06Speaker 1: whether it be the Marines or you know, warlord meetings
- 29:10Speaker 1: or whatever. That I just I'm used to it now,
- 29:17Speaker 1: so I understand more the way that this works, but
- 29:20Speaker 1: I just feel like there has to be a better
- 29:23Speaker 1: way to like segue into it. It just is very
- 29:28Speaker 1: jarring sometimes, and I also find myself a bit lost
- 29:34Speaker 1: because there will be pretty long breaks between the last
- 29:39Speaker 1: time that we were with people from this particular sect
- 29:42Speaker 1: of whatever organization, and so coming back to them after
- 29:47Speaker 1: such a long time, I am very much like, oh wait,
- 29:51Speaker 1: what was happening with this? I forgot, you know. So anyway,
- 29:55Speaker 1: what's happening here, it seems, is that after everything has happened,
- 30:00Speaker 1: and with the Hordy releasing well not releasing, but the
- 30:06Speaker 1: pirates that he captured and forced to fight for him.
- 30:12Speaker 1: The pirates who were captured evidently like their ships were
- 30:17Speaker 1: down there at Fishman Island, and so when they took off,
- 30:23Speaker 1: they all just got onto their individual pirate ships and
- 30:27Speaker 1: made for the surface as fast as they could. And
- 30:32Speaker 1: thus the Marines who are on the surface are taken
- 30:35Speaker 1: quite by surprise when a bunch of pirate ships just
- 30:40Speaker 1: surface right next to them, basically, and the pirates begin
- 30:45Speaker 1: to attack the marines and board them and everything. And
- 30:49Speaker 1: the Marines are in the midst of this fight, and
- 30:52Speaker 1: more ships are surfacing around them. It's quite a lot
- 30:56Speaker 1: like by the time this scene sort of transitions, we've
- 31:01Speaker 1: got at least ten or twelve pirate ships, and the
- 31:06Speaker 1: situation has grown more and more dire. So we then
- 31:13Speaker 1: go to a particular ship, and there is a dude
- 31:18Speaker 1: like polishing someone's glasses. He's wiping the lenses off, and
- 31:24Speaker 1: a guy comes up to him and says, are you
- 31:27Speaker 1: trying to suck up to her? I was so confused.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I was genuinely like I had to have missed something.
- 31:36Speaker 1: What is happening here? And we pretty shortly find out
- 31:43Speaker 1: that we have our old girl back that looks like
- 31:48Speaker 1: the girl Zoro trained with. Tashige is her name. I
- 31:54Speaker 1: am going to really need to try and remember her name,
- 31:57Speaker 1: because I feel like it's going to be one of
- 32:01Speaker 1: those that slides right off my mind. I need to
- 32:04Speaker 1: come up with some sort of mnemonic device. But she
- 32:08Speaker 1: sees one of the cannonballs coming for the ship, she says,
- 32:13Speaker 1: I've got it. She leaps up and uses one of
- 32:15Speaker 1: her swords to deflect it. And all of these men
- 32:21Speaker 1: are cheering for her and heart eyeing her and just
- 32:26Speaker 1: obviously enraptured with her, and she hasn't got any time
- 32:33Speaker 1: for any of them. It's I feel a departure from
- 32:39Speaker 1: the attitude that we saw last time we were near her.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Is this fair to say? Because I felt as if
- 32:48Speaker 1: when we last saw her in Lowtown, I think we
- 32:52Speaker 1: may have seen her briefly since then, but it was
- 32:55Speaker 1: a very brief. When she was on the street saying
- 33:00Speaker 1: that she could fight, nobody was really like taking her seriously,
- 33:04Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden, she's ah saying that
- 33:09Speaker 1: she's respected is really really inaccurate. I don't want to
- 33:12Speaker 1: say that, because that's just not how this is. But
- 33:16Speaker 1: I feel like I saw her as being treated a
- 33:23Speaker 1: bit more of a joke before, and at this point
- 33:27Speaker 1: she definitely at least has the trust of her crew,
- 33:31Speaker 1: but as I said earlier, not the respect of the crew,
- 33:37Speaker 1: which she keeps pointing out, and they keep saying like,
- 33:40Speaker 1: of course we respect you. You're way too beautiful not
- 33:44Speaker 1: to respect. You're way too adorable, things like this, making
- 33:48Speaker 1: it obvious that, like they can see that she's talented
- 33:53Speaker 1: at sword play, but it's only part of what makes
- 33:58Speaker 1: her a an overall like package in their eyes, of
- 34:04Speaker 1: a woman that they are interested in. I want to
- 34:08Speaker 1: say sexually. I feel like it's more accurate if I
- 34:12Speaker 1: say romantically, even though I don't really mean it. And
- 34:18Speaker 1: you know, y'all, with the way that things happen with
- 34:23Speaker 1: women in this show, it is just such whiplash any
- 34:27Speaker 1: woman who isn't fat and portrayed as somehow like a monster.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Because of that, the women who are thin are always
- 34:41Speaker 1: just there for men to like gawkat. And I was
- 34:46Speaker 1: really not remembering this kind of tone with Tashi when
- 34:51Speaker 1: we had met her earlier, so it took me really
- 34:54Speaker 1: off guard, and I had a confusing moment of like, wait,
- 34:57Speaker 1: this is this boa because they're all dying so much
- 35:00Speaker 1: when she walks past them that I was like, is
- 35:02Speaker 1: this a power or something? You know? But later on
- 35:09Speaker 1: we like, just to sort of jump ahead, there's a
- 35:14Speaker 1: scene of Soanjy and Brooks spying on Nami in the shower,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and uh, I feel like every episode I need to
- 35:25Speaker 1: give like a grade out of ten points for how
- 35:27Speaker 1: bad the misogyny was in that episode. But anyway, so
- 35:34Speaker 1: she is also like fighting without her glasses on, and
- 35:37Speaker 1: so she's yelling at a mast instead of a person
- 35:42Speaker 1: about how they should know how to deflect cannonballs. At
- 35:46Speaker 1: this point, it's like basic shit, I shouldn't have to
- 35:49Speaker 1: step in on everything. You should be able to take
- 35:52Speaker 1: care of this yourself. And she says the G five
- 35:59Speaker 1: is such a and to think you're all Navy soldiers.
- 36:03Speaker 1: You'd better not take me lightly just because I'm a woman.
- 36:07Speaker 1: You're just so adorable. How could I not respect you.
- 36:12Speaker 1: So Smoker is here and he is questioning some of
- 36:19Speaker 1: these pirates about what happened, and this leads to one
- 36:23Speaker 1: of my favorite little moments. You guys. He's talking to
- 36:29Speaker 1: these guys and it's just like, tell me what the
- 36:31Speaker 1: fuck happened, And they're being real cagey about explaining which
- 36:36Speaker 1: pirates saved the day down there, and finally one of
- 36:41Speaker 1: them just says, all right, all right, fine, it was
- 36:44Speaker 1: the straw Hat pirates, and Smoker just says, I knew
- 36:52Speaker 1: that already. We get the the end title card, and
- 36:58Speaker 1: then you just hear his voice as he says idiot.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And I don't know why, but like his voice in
- 37:04Speaker 1: the dead silence after that title card cracked me up
- 37:10Speaker 1: so bad. I was laughing so hard. So anyway, yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 1: he is aware that they are probably going to be
- 37:16Speaker 1: surfacing around here somewhere and is going to be looking
- 37:21Speaker 1: for them. So all right, uh, the finally time to
- 37:27Speaker 1: go goodbye Fishman Island. This episode is a really really
- 37:35Speaker 1: long goodbye. Like I said, our friends have all been
- 37:38Speaker 1: brought to their ship. I thought we'd start this off
- 37:43Speaker 1: and we would already be on the road. Not so.
- 37:47Speaker 1: So first we have to go to Charlie, who is
- 37:50Speaker 1: talking with Kamie, and they all want to, like all
- 37:54Speaker 1: of the the mermaids who work at the cafe want
- 38:00Speaker 1: to go and say goodbye to the straw hats, and
- 38:02Speaker 1: Charlie has to be like, you can't all go because
- 38:05Speaker 1: we need to keep the cafe open. Our tourism is
- 38:09Speaker 1: about to go through the roof now that Hordy isn't here,
- 38:11Speaker 1: fucking our whole vibe up. So Charlie and Kamie have
- 38:17Speaker 1: a conversation because like, Kamie is leaving and she looks
- 38:21Speaker 1: over and she sees this crystal ball broken in half.
- 38:28Speaker 1: The assumption here is that Charlie broke it in half.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I didn't even I'll be honest, you guys. I remembered
- 38:38Speaker 1: Charlie's vision as like something that sort of appeared in
- 38:42Speaker 1: her mind out of nowhere, like a vision. I didn't
- 38:46Speaker 1: recall that she used a crystal ball, but evidently she did.
- 38:53Speaker 1: And Charlie's whole attitude here is quite curious because she's
- 38:56Speaker 1: basically like, I I don't want to like see into
- 39:01Speaker 1: the future anymore. I'm done with that shit. And who knows,
- 39:05Speaker 1: Like the thing that I said about straw Hat, considering
- 39:08Speaker 1: how things wound up going down, it may not even
- 39:11Speaker 1: be true. So it's just kind of the end of
- 39:16Speaker 1: the for telling road for me. I don't really want
- 39:22Speaker 1: to fuck with that anymore, which I can sympathize with.
- 39:26Speaker 1: But Kamie's interpretation is essentially, if Charlie is saying this
- 39:35Speaker 1: out loud, it signifies probably that she is even more
- 39:39Speaker 1: frightened than everyone else, because she knows quite well that
- 39:45Speaker 1: her visions are never wrong. So if this is something
- 39:50Speaker 1: that she's acting like, well, maybe I'm not right about it.
- 39:53Speaker 1: She must be in some deep denial. And it's interesting
- 39:57Speaker 1: because like I had just fully and this was like
- 40:01Speaker 1: before I had the want to be episode with Florian,
- 40:05Speaker 1: but I had really fully thought that what we were
- 40:08Speaker 1: going to what we were going to find out was
- 40:12Speaker 1: that in the midst of this fight with Hordy, Loofy
- 40:16Speaker 1: standing in the flames, was him like in the rubble
- 40:19Speaker 1: of wreck that the Hordy pirates had created, and that
- 40:26Speaker 1: her vision was going to be Loofy in the midst
- 40:29Speaker 1: of the thing. Yes, but it would be the context
- 40:34Speaker 1: of it would be extremely different and it would make
- 40:38Speaker 1: it suddenly. Oh, I was mistaken on how I thought
- 40:41Speaker 1: this was going to go, and it seems that it's
- 40:46Speaker 1: just not happened yet. That it's like the fight with
- 40:51Speaker 1: Hordy was a separate thing from what she saw. And
- 40:55Speaker 1: I am genuinely surprised because I really did think that
- 41:01Speaker 1: we were wrapping up this arc and that her vision
- 41:05Speaker 1: would be disproven by the end of it, and that's
- 41:08Speaker 1: not what we get at all. So yeah, Charlie is
- 41:13Speaker 1: just sort of, like I said, in denial here. So
- 41:18Speaker 1: then we go to the Princess who is holding Loofy
- 41:21Speaker 1: and apologizing for crying because they're saying goodbye and she's
- 41:25Speaker 1: weeping all over him, and the King is talking with
- 41:32Speaker 1: the Minister about whether or not to inform Big Mom
- 41:38Speaker 1: about the potential dynamite in the in the box, and
- 41:43Speaker 1: the only people present when they're discussing this, and they're
- 41:47Speaker 1: not listening to what the King is saying. It's Oo's
- 41:52Speaker 1: up and Chopper, the two like most weak stomached of
- 41:57Speaker 1: the entire crew, and they're they're both panicking and due
- 42:02Speaker 1: to this because they're not even panicking about the bomb.
- 42:08Speaker 1: They're panicking about the fact that Lufy like yelled at
- 42:11Speaker 1: Big Mom at all as far as they're concerned. Yeah,
- 42:15Speaker 1: he gave her the treasure, but that wasn't enough. She's
- 42:23Speaker 1: still going to be mad at him, and we're going
- 42:25Speaker 1: to have to deal with the fallout from that. So
- 42:28Speaker 1: the two of them are just like sobbing, crying, like
- 42:32Speaker 1: how are we going to handle this? And the King
- 42:35Speaker 1: points this out to his minister and is like, we
- 42:40Speaker 1: can't tell them about the bomb. Look at how freaked
- 42:42Speaker 1: out they are just by this thing with Ma. We've
- 42:47Speaker 1: just got to hope that either she doesn't open it
- 42:51Speaker 1: or it's been kept down here in this very damp
- 42:55Speaker 1: environment for so long that maybe the dynamite isn't even
- 43:00Speaker 1: any good anymore. And remembering this earlier, I had said,
- 43:06Speaker 1: is it supposed to be that that explosive was placed
- 43:09Speaker 1: in the box recently because of a reaction to it
- 43:14Speaker 1: being stolen? But it sounds like it's been in the
- 43:20Speaker 1: box for like ten years, So I'm a little confused
- 43:24Speaker 1: how this works. Is it supposed to be more that
- 43:26Speaker 1: Hordy stole the box and then just took the contents
- 43:29Speaker 1: out and put the box back, so they knew that
- 43:34Speaker 1: it was stolen, but they still had custody of it.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Or because why would you give a shit about the
- 43:44Speaker 1: empty box? I would think that Hordy wouldn't leave anything
- 43:47Speaker 1: in the box to bother trying to save. And I
- 43:53Speaker 1: thought that there was only one tamate box and it
- 43:59Speaker 1: was what he used to make that steroid drug. I
- 44:03Speaker 1: feel kind of confused about the order in which things
- 44:07Speaker 1: went and what was what the thought process was in
- 44:13Speaker 1: putting the explosives in there in the first place, based
- 44:18Speaker 1: on whenever it happened. So if anybody wants to give
- 44:22Speaker 1: me a little bit more, Florian says, right after Hordy
- 44:27Speaker 1: stole it, they put the explosive in Okay, So Hordy
- 44:32Speaker 1: didn't take everything from the box, so there was something
- 44:36Speaker 1: still worth protecting. Because that's the part I keep getting
- 44:40Speaker 1: hung up on, like as if he stole it, one
- 44:43Speaker 1: would think that he would just take everything and then
- 44:46Speaker 1: there's no point in keeping the box. Who cares about
- 44:49Speaker 1: the box? I thought it was the items inside, unless
- 44:53Speaker 1: it's supposed to be that the box somehow magically independently
- 44:56Speaker 1: produces more of the drug, which doesn't sound like it
- 45:01Speaker 1: makes sense to me. And things don't tend to work
- 45:04Speaker 1: that way in this universe, so I don't feel like
- 45:08Speaker 1: that's it. So I guess that Hordy just didn't take everything,
- 45:14Speaker 1: which doesn't sound like him. That's all I'll say. I
- 45:20Speaker 1: feel like if you told me that that he had not,
- 45:25Speaker 1: you know, that he had left something behind, I would
- 45:30Speaker 1: be very surprised by that. That doesn't sound right to me,
- 45:33Speaker 1: but I guess for the sake of this storyline, it
- 45:36Speaker 1: has to have been the way that it was set up.
- 45:39Speaker 1: So anyway, this is when Nami gets given the new
- 45:44Speaker 1: log pose, and this is sort of a weird thing.
- 45:47Speaker 1: There are three needles on it instead of the one needle,
- 45:51Speaker 1: and the other minister has come to her and he
- 45:54Speaker 1: says something about how like he was really upset when
- 45:57Speaker 1: he saw that she had a log pose that only
- 45:59Speaker 1: had needle, and then goes on to explain basically that
- 46:04Speaker 1: the way that navigation in the New World works is
- 46:09Speaker 1: there are going to be places that are really dangerous,
- 46:12Speaker 1: and you can tell how dangerous they are by looking
- 46:15Speaker 1: at the movements of the needle, and a really experienced
- 46:19Speaker 1: navigator that goes with their gut is going to be
- 46:21Speaker 1: able to tell which places they need to sidestep, and
- 46:25Speaker 1: if you only have the one needle on your log pose,
- 46:29Speaker 1: you've got no choice but to follow it no matter
- 46:31Speaker 1: where it's leading you, Whereas if you've got three needles
- 46:35Speaker 1: pointing in different directions, you can choose the one that
- 46:38Speaker 1: seems the least erratic in its movement and trust that
- 46:42Speaker 1: it's not going to be as dangerous as the other
- 46:45Speaker 1: two locations. Of course, this results in Loofy seeing the
- 46:51Speaker 1: log pose Overnami's shoulder, the wild wobbling of one particular needle,
- 46:58Speaker 1: and then trying to insist that's where go immediately because
- 47:01Speaker 1: it sounds like the most fun, which there is a
- 47:05Speaker 1: big argument about. And I was sort of wanting somebody
- 47:10Speaker 1: to like, I wanted Jimbang honestly here for this to
- 47:15Speaker 1: be like, are you serious Loofy again? You know? But
- 47:19Speaker 1: unfortunately it's just sort of Loofy getting beat down and
- 47:23Speaker 1: told to shut the fuck up. He's out here just
- 47:27Speaker 1: fully saying I'm gonna take your job away from you, Nammy.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I'm like, why do you want her here? Lufy. If
- 47:33Speaker 1: you're just gonna do whatever you feel like anyway, then
- 47:36Speaker 1: you don't need a navigator, So take the fucking log
- 47:39Speaker 1: post yourself and let nommy go and shop or something.
- 47:45Speaker 1: So let's see, I'm going forward here. There's the last
- 47:54Speaker 1: speech to with our conversation with the two princes who
- 47:58Speaker 1: ensure that they're gonna like train up their army and YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 48:03Speaker 1: And then Lufy is looking around and he's like, and
- 48:06Speaker 1: now where's and then Jimbay shows up, looking just as
- 48:10Speaker 1: dour as ever. Jim Bay is always got this like
- 48:16Speaker 1: intensity and complete lack of humor to him. There have
- 48:20Speaker 1: been a couple moments where I feel like we've seen
- 48:22Speaker 1: a glimmer of it, but it's mostly felt like he's
- 48:26Speaker 1: very angry all the time. I guess we'll see what
- 48:29Speaker 1: kind of vibe he brings, but I don't I'm not
- 48:34Speaker 1: particularly excited about it. But yeah, Jimbay nods to him
- 48:39Speaker 1: in like one of those I'm with you sort of expressions,
- 48:44Speaker 1: and Lufy is delighted. He leaps onto the deck of
- 48:48Speaker 1: the ship and is like, all right, it's time to
- 48:51Speaker 1: set sail. Let's go in for the to the New World.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So they head off and it's so disoriented because like
- 49:01Speaker 1: it looks like they're just on a regular ocean for
- 49:04Speaker 1: a little bit, and then eventually, you know, they leave
- 49:07Speaker 1: the bubble and they're out in like the underwater area
- 49:12Speaker 1: with their ship coated again. But for a while I
- 49:16Speaker 1: forgot that that was how that was going to go
- 49:19Speaker 1: and was fully thinking that we were just on a
- 49:21Speaker 1: regular sea. So this is when the princess pursues them
- 49:25Speaker 1: and insists that they promise that they will come back someday,
- 49:29Speaker 1: and they do with a big pinky swear. Pinky promises
- 49:33Speaker 1: are so funny to me, Like, I fully endorse them.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I definitely did them a ton as a kid, but
- 49:39Speaker 1: I really want to know where they came from. There's
- 49:41Speaker 1: got to be somebody who knows and has done the
- 49:43Speaker 1: research on this. And Robin says, all right, we've all
- 49:49Speaker 1: given our word now, But like Zorro isn't there and
- 49:53Speaker 1: Frankie isn't there, so I don't know if that's going
- 49:56Speaker 1: to end up mattering at all. But the two of
- 49:58Speaker 1: them have not gone in on this. We like the
- 50:01Speaker 1: camera pans past Zoro and Frankie, who were smiling at her,
- 50:05Speaker 1: but they're not part of the group that's like standing
- 50:09Speaker 1: and putting their pinkies in. So maybe it's supposed to
- 50:11Speaker 1: suggest that we couldn't fit everybody in the frame, but
- 50:15Speaker 1: they were both there, trust us because now we're gonna
- 50:17Speaker 1: cut to them. I couldn't tell. But anyway, so they
- 50:23Speaker 1: take off and we get once again another montage of
- 50:29Speaker 1: all of the character's faces, and then a sort of
- 50:32Speaker 1: interaction on the street with a kid and one of
- 50:35Speaker 1: the fishmen, who the kid is saying something about wanting
- 50:39Speaker 1: to like go with a straw hats or be a
- 50:40Speaker 1: straw hat, you know, and the fishman, who is an adult,
- 50:44Speaker 1: says something about how you can't go up to the
- 50:46Speaker 1: service who knows what they'll do to you, and then
- 50:48Speaker 1: sort of catches himself and is like, well, they're not
- 50:51Speaker 1: all the same. Some of them are heroes, like straw
- 50:54Speaker 1: Hat Loofy, And it was such a weird like it
- 50:57Speaker 1: just it keeps feeling like a reverse racism, you know,
- 51:02Speaker 1: like we're gonna argue about how these people who have
- 51:05Speaker 1: been enslaved shouldn't be so mean to humans. I really
- 51:09Speaker 1: am going to need us to like leave this behind
- 51:12Speaker 1: because I am uninterested. And the more we do this,
- 51:16Speaker 1: the more poorly it hits, you know. But anyway, this
- 51:21Speaker 1: kid asks for straw hats. Jim Bay says that he's
- 51:24Speaker 1: gonna get him some from the surface, and then we
- 51:28Speaker 1: cut to Loofy, who is He's got that excited glint
- 51:31Speaker 1: in his eye. He's thinking about all of the people
- 51:34Speaker 1: who have cheered him on in his life, getting the
- 51:36Speaker 1: hat from Shanks and the mission from his brother, and
- 51:43Speaker 1: the fact that the direction they're headed Shanks is probably
- 51:47Speaker 1: so he's going to get to see him again and
- 51:49Speaker 1: he's excited about that. And yeah, so that's the ending
- 51:54Speaker 1: of that episode, and then the third episode where they
- 52:01Speaker 1: are actually in the ocean. Honestly, surprisingly little happens. We've
- 52:11Speaker 1: got our friends in this ship coated. It's so funny,
- 52:14Speaker 1: you guys, because I have recently been doing a ton
- 52:17Speaker 1: of resin work, which if you're looking at me on
- 52:20Speaker 1: the camera, you can see, like, my whole shit is
- 52:23Speaker 1: just a mess behind me right now because I have
- 52:25Speaker 1: so much equipment out and like just in a complete jumble.
- 52:31Speaker 1: But I keep seeing the coating on the ship and
- 52:37Speaker 1: immediately my brain is going to like, oh, it got
- 52:40Speaker 1: dipped in resin. My next thought being like how did
- 52:43Speaker 1: they do that? Because like resin techniques, there's all kinds
- 52:46Speaker 1: of different ways you could do stuff and I just
- 52:48Speaker 1: kept laughing at myself as I caught myself being like,
- 52:51Speaker 1: that is wait, that's not what this says at all.
- 52:57Speaker 1: So this is when we get the nami in the
- 52:59Speaker 1: shower moment. And then we go to Loofy, who is
- 53:04Speaker 1: going to try for some real giant fishing. And they
- 53:09Speaker 1: have these two huge hooks that are about the size
- 53:12Speaker 1: of Oosop's head, and they have them roped together and
- 53:15Speaker 1: they're gonna throw them out there to catch a fish.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Loofy sees this one fish that he decides to go for.
- 53:22Speaker 1: It looks like kind of like a monkfish, which if
- 53:25Speaker 1: you ever look those up there are the ugliest fish.
- 53:28Speaker 1: And they hook it. I felt so bad because it's
- 53:32Speaker 1: not really hooked so much as Loofy punches the daylights
- 53:34Speaker 1: out of it. And then they throw the hook at
- 53:37Speaker 1: what seems to be an already dead fish, which I
- 53:40Speaker 1: just don't like seeing Loofy bee animals. I don't care
- 53:42Speaker 1: if it even is just a fish, I don't like it.
- 53:45Speaker 1: But no, sooner have they started to tow this fish
- 53:48Speaker 1: behind them, when a way bigger, way scarier looking fish
- 53:53Speaker 1: that's like black with all of these gills or spiny
- 53:57Speaker 1: sort of fins that almost look like bat wings up
- 54:00Speaker 1: and chomps around it, and then an even baker fish
- 54:05Speaker 1: comes up behind that one, and it's easily one hundred
- 54:11Speaker 1: times the size of their ship. I would say probably
- 54:13Speaker 1: more like a thousand times the size. It's just huge.
- 54:17Speaker 1: So the uh, you know, they're towing it along. But
- 54:24Speaker 1: the whole situation, oh my god, I forgot about the
- 54:27Speaker 1: zoom in on Nami's tits as she zips up her
- 54:30Speaker 1: like whatever it is that she's wearing. I don't know
- 54:32Speaker 1: if it's supposed to be a dress or like a
- 54:35Speaker 1: robe that you put on after showering. She is still wet,
- 54:38Speaker 1: but I don't know if that has anything to do
- 54:40Speaker 1: with it. But this is when they get gripped up
- 54:43Speaker 1: by this white strom. Is that the word that they
- 54:48Speaker 1: keep using, And it's basically sort of a like a
- 54:53Speaker 1: wormhole in the water that catches It's what it reminded
- 54:56Speaker 1: me of, was like the jet stream U. But they
- 55:02Speaker 1: are being ordered to get away from it by Nami,
- 55:06Speaker 1: who has been busy and not seeing what they're up to.
- 55:09Speaker 1: So she comes out and they are way too close
- 55:12Speaker 1: to it already. She says, you know, we're not going
- 55:15Speaker 1: to be able if you are still going to hold
- 55:18Speaker 1: onto that fish, it's going to catch us. And like
- 55:23Speaker 1: in the stream, cut the fish loose and then we'll
- 55:28Speaker 1: be able to make it upward because the fish is
- 55:31Speaker 1: dragging them, you know. And Lufy doesn't want to let
- 55:34Speaker 1: the fish go as usual, he has very particular priorities.
- 55:42Speaker 1: And yeah, so she's like yelling, let it go, and
- 55:46Speaker 1: every it's loofy zoro soany and oosup that all yell up?
- 55:55Speaker 1: But what about our dinner? And I was truly surprised
- 55:58Speaker 1: that we had both Anezoro in on this because of
- 56:03Speaker 1: course Lufy I see oos up. He's so afraid that
- 56:08Speaker 1: this doesn't make sense for me, for his character, I
- 56:11Speaker 1: feel like Frankie would make more sense. But anyway, her
- 56:15Speaker 1: response is, if you get us all killed, we'll never
- 56:19Speaker 1: eat dinner again. I was gone for ten fucking minutes.
- 56:23Speaker 1: What is the matter with you? How did that? Like?
- 56:27Speaker 1: I'm my god, you know. And when she asks Lufy
- 56:32Speaker 1: or Frankie to do the coup to burst, Frankie says
- 56:35Speaker 1: that it is too late for that, and we see
- 56:39Speaker 1: them getting drawn into this stream, and I was sort
- 56:47Speaker 1: of seeing it as like probably it was going to
- 56:51Speaker 1: result in something more of a shortcut, because allegedly everybody
- 56:56Speaker 1: who gets pulled into this dies because we've never heard
- 56:59Speaker 1: of a survivor, which of course is something that Robin
- 57:03Speaker 1: says to them in the most deadpan, unconcerned manner, And
- 57:09Speaker 1: everybody is having to cling to the deck of the
- 57:12Speaker 1: ship so that they don't get thrown off of it,
- 57:16Speaker 1: and it's very much like they're on a sort of
- 57:20Speaker 1: roller coaster. So eventually they get out of it. And
- 57:26Speaker 1: I was sort of wondering maybe if you maybe you
- 57:28Speaker 1: don't hear about survivors, just because none of you have
- 57:31Speaker 1: been to the New World, you know, like I don't know.
- 57:36Speaker 1: But Unami says, we hit something and bounced out, And
- 57:42Speaker 1: this is when we see all of the whales passing by,
- 57:48Speaker 1: and they have the scars on their nose that the
- 57:53Speaker 1: Boon had, so understandably, that's who they think. These whales are,
- 58:00Speaker 1: like the first one they see, they think is Laboon,
- 58:02Speaker 1: and they're all like the first thing I think, Oosup says,
- 58:11Speaker 1: because obviously Brooke is getting really emotional at the thought
- 58:15Speaker 1: that this is Laboon, and I fully thought it was too.
- 58:18Speaker 1: I was thinking Laboon had decided to stop waiting for them,
- 58:21Speaker 1: and I really had no issue with that. But it
- 58:24Speaker 1: turns out that a lot of these whales have scars
- 58:28Speaker 1: on their faces like Laboon did, and so they're not Laboon.
- 58:33Speaker 1: But why is it that they're all sporting these injuries,
- 58:37Speaker 1: you know? But anyway, what they end up doing is
- 58:44Speaker 1: using one of the whales to like pull them up
- 58:49Speaker 1: towards the surface, because that is where the whales are
- 58:52Speaker 1: also headed. And Brooke, for his part, is like, you
- 58:58Speaker 1: know what, maybe some of these whales are like Laboon's relatives.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I think he came from this part of the sea.
- 59:05Speaker 1: So I'm going to like sing a song for them
- 59:11Speaker 1: and make this journey a little bit more pleasant, and
- 59:14Speaker 1: you know, in honor of my friend, and he does
- 59:20Speaker 1: the Binks's Brew. This is honestly just like a really
- 59:27Speaker 1: fun song that they managed to utilize in this show
- 59:31Speaker 1: so well that it really is kind of nostalgic for
- 59:33Speaker 1: me already, even though it hasn't been that long since
- 59:37Speaker 1: I first heard it, you know. And the whales do
- 59:41Speaker 1: seem to actually be enjoying it. They are kind of
- 59:44Speaker 1: little smiles on some of their faces, and their eyes
- 59:47Speaker 1: are looking over at them like they're appreciating it. And
- 59:52Speaker 1: I want to mention too that like the crazy eel
- 59:57Speaker 1: thing that they had caught is still attached to the
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: ship also, So I don't know what is going to
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: happen with this, but it is so creepy looking and
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: it has one of those like underbite jaws that fish
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: have with the real curved needle like teeth. It's extremely creepy.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: But they are heading to the surface, and as we
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: do this, everybody has their flashbacks on what they were
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: doing for the two years that they were away and
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: what they wound up learning and the people that they met, YadA, YadA.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: And then they breach the surface, they go like flying
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: into the air, and the sky is dark and there
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: is lightning lashing the sky. It is feeling extremely dangerous,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: and they go sailing up into the air and then
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: they like head straight down and they bounce off of
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: all of these whales like from one to the other,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: and the like vibe is supposed to be that they
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: saved them from just crashing into the ocean. That hitting
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: the whale was like they were each a trampoline, where
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: I think probably hitting a whale from that height is
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: going to be as dangerous as hitting the water, but
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: us up delivers a message to all of these whales,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: like when we see Laboon again, we will be sure
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: to let him know where the rest of you are.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: The assumption that they're making is like this is Laboon's family.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: So the whales like seem genuinely pleased with this. They're
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: not speaking, but they are. It feels like they understand,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: and they are racing along on the water and the
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: lightning is just really intimidating, and Frankie seems like genuinely
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: excited about this, like so does Nami and Robin. Even
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: though shit is crazy, all of them are just sort
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: of like, ah, right, we're out here, up on the
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: fucking surface again. And then they mount a wave and
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: they see out and realize that this is all navy ships.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: At first, they think it's pirates and they're like, oh sweet,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: we're about to like you know, get into it. But
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: when they see the Marines there, all of them sort
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: of go wait what. And that is where the episode ends.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm interested to see what happens up here.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I don't really have like an expectation more than I'll
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: be extremely curious about Captain Smoker because he is somebody
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: that I didn't feel like I got enough of the
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: first time we met him, and I have been delighted
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: at his constant pursuit of them and uh yeah, what's
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: up with him? And what's up with you? She is? She? Did?
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: I get that? Right? Like Tashi Tashige? Right? Tas Okay,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: tash If it's Tashige, I can remember it because people
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: call me Tosh all the time, so that's gonna be
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: how I try and remember her name anyway. Okay, guys,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: thank you all again so much for listening. Appreciate you
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: all very much, and thank you to Florian for being
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: here and for commissioning this episode. Until next time to
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: the loom. Motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network Podcast two.
