- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: Hi again, everybody.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_02]: Pat Maguire, alongside Cleveland Guardians on S.I.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_02]: and S.I.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_02]: and S.I.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: and S.I.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: are Kate Crack, is this is the Cleveland Guardians on S.I.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: report right here on the big place.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: Sports that we're presented by Fandle.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: Kate, we're about to start a second half of this season already.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard to believe it's been a long, all-star week.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, week, I guess you could say the All-Star Game huge let down the home run Derby, not really that great, you know, over there in Philadelphia, even for the 250th anniversary.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: All-star week, I'll say it.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: It was a huge let down this year.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no I really to be honest with you outside of watching our guardians go out there and compete in park Remestic Travis of Zana and Kate Smith.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: I really didn't watch much.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: I watched a little bit of home home run derby and Oh my gosh, they cut the camera five thousand times.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: That was wild.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: I understand that people want to say that the Attention spans down or whatever it is, but though my gosh, I literally was watching.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was like what is going on right now at some points, but
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: No, I agree though.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: It felt a little bit underwhelming and a little less hyped than it had been in years past.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think across the board though, we're seeing Pat that, you know, the NBA all-star weekend, the MLB all-star week, the Pro Bowl, all these different things just need to be reworked.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if maybe you do more of like a recognition of the success in a formal way or how you kind of go about it, but it just feels
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: or a list would say or yeah I was going to use the word done but that felt stupid to use that funny enough but like I don't know I'm just out of I just don't feel like it's working so I think they got to rework it in some sort of way I got to rework it some sort of way obviously I thought a lot of people like the sand lot stuff I thought was extremely cringe but you know what to eat their own I guess the stand-up to cancer thing is probably the only redeemable quality of like everything all starting in my guess you could say you got to show emotion where you can and sports that's the way of the North American sports fans so whenever you can do that that's kind of a big thing but
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: Kate, at least we got to see our guys.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to see Kate Smith, you know, park domestic out there, Travis Spazana as well.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: So at least we got a couple of appearances over there throughout the weekend, or throughout the week, I guess you could say for the the all-star break over there in Philadelphia.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: Now they do return home to begin this second half quest here.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: We were 97 games in through the season.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: You're broaching the 100 game mark to Chicago, white socks, bearing down on you.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: This weekend, you're welcoming in the Pittsburgh Pirates, not the Pittsburgh Pirates of the Pass.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: I know Paul Scneans isn't
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: that necessarily that well this season is velocity is way down as erays a little bit more up than you would imagine, but this pirate team is much better than you might think.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the pitching saps are really good across the board.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the thing that makes them so interesting.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: Pat, you talked about those schemes having a little bit of a down year in comparison, but some of the other guys who stepped up like we've seen Ashcraft have a pretty strong year 349, ERA, and a couple of other guys who are just really starting to pull their weight as the years going on.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I know they've had
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: some shift thing in moving with some guys getting different starts like Mason Montgomery started a couple games here and there throughout the year.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Jared Jones obviously he's kind of taking the step forward near this rotation.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think they go up against him on Saturday I want to say in Jones 437 ERA, but he's going to one 14 whip in a 220 batting average again.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: So outside of a couple of home runs, he's allowed.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's actually been a really strong pitcher.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: So tell it that ERA fool you when you go up against him.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: So Cleveland's got a tough task ahead.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: We saw that that that that
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: that hitting really start to come around.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: We saw the bats get in a groove as we went into the y'all start break, beating the marlins to what?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: First sweep since last season.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, 84 years.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been a forever, I felt like.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it was nice to see that.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, you got to come out of this break hot.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: And some of these guys like the Travis Pazones little will like the youngsters and chased a lot or so on.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Have got to get going, because this is the time pad.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost the end of July.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know what that means?
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: Only two more months left in the campaign until we get to the postseason, 100%.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, it's really much,
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: not now we're never but it's a pretty critical point of the turn on the gas is going to step on the gas as you always like to say to you know another thing bearing down and he's the trade deadline as well too but one thing that we got information wise that you tell you know you posted earlier today make sure you follow Kate on Twitter to get all of your guards information that you could need but the rotation that the guard needs to be thrown out there against this pirates team was really interesting to me yeah Gable Williams Joey Contillo, Tanner Bobby.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the first three there coming back out of the second half of the season.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: You don't really want to rework people too too much.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously Parker did get to throw in the All-Star game.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: You wouldn't put them back out there knowing that you just threw basically a side session for a bullpen.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's sort of thing.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: But they did kind of rework it a little bit.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: Gabmo Williams, Joey, and then Tanner Bobby, what were your first impressions?
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm excited.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited to see what this group can do because I think there's a little bit more balance to it now when you go from that righty lefty righty and then if you go mesic and then slate you go ready lefty righty lefty righty and you have a really good balance there too because then at least from the perspective of the guardians coaching staff.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now when you're looking at pitching matchups and getting the bullpen more used to more action With Eric's a brow ski being somewhat of a question mark moving forward We've seen Tim Heron what he's still on the injured list right now, and so when he comes back though You're gonna be looking at you know that lefty that lefty bullpen spot where you're trying to figure out You know how can we get them opportunities, but how can we limit you know They amount that we're using them so teams don't get used to it It's something they had to do fun enough with Kate Smith at the beginning of the year because they're throwing him so much out there a team's got used to him
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: So then they're figuring out how to beat them and then you're actually going to go to the other guys and adapt and quickly change things on the fly.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: But no, I'm excited about where this starting rotation is out.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it puts the bullpen in a good spot.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think all these guys are going to be in a good spot.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I really think you're setting yourself up nicely to go into the postseason pad and have yourself the best possible chance to go.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you know, this is the five-wooden run into the back half of the year.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: Here it is.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's Gavin.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's Joey.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's Tanner.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then you go from there in the playoffs.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think one thing that people maybe misconstruber about baseball all the time is like,
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, when you get to the playoffs, that's when you have to have your 1, 2, 3 ready to go.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you can actually have that in the middle of July, believe it or not.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: You can set those things up and obviously barring any injuries, which we've been super lucky with this season so far on the pitching side of things.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: Been super lucky with that one in the rotation, I guess you could say.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: But...
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to just wait until October baseball to set that up, right?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: You can have your kind of ace and kind of know what you want to be going into those October games, because the truth in the matter is we saw it last season.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: These September games are going to be high leverage this year.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: I know that maybe the White Sox are going to be able to hang around a little bit longer.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I really fully still believe in them, even though they are tied at top of the AL Central right now with our Cleveland Guardians.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: I still don't know if they're necessarily like for real for real, but the guardians are going to have high leverage games the rest of the way, it's about 65 games left in the regular season.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's where you got to make sure you've got your aces lined up.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then you've got, you know, your stopper.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's sort of the back end of that rotation.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: Slates been pretty good as well.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: As of late, his month of June was unbelievable.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Parker Massica has been really just a godsend for this team to all season long.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: So getting that pitching figured out has been really critical for the Cleveland Guardians.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: I think we got to dive into that back end of that bullpen, though.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, because that trade deadline approaches.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of names floating around.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of arms kind of on the bench right now for the Guardians as well.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about that next coming up right here on the Big Place Sports Network.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: On the biggest stage in the world, Fandle is changing the game because sometimes your player gets subbed off and your back goes with them.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: Not anymore, with Fandle's super sub, if your player is subbed out, your bet stays in.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's right, if your player leaves a match, your bet continues on with the substitute.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: So you're still in until the final whistle.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: Because in matches like these, anything can happen and now, your back can go the distance.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: Let there be goals that summer on Fandle.

- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: back here on the Cleveland Guardians on S.I.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: report.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: Pat McGuire, Kate Crack is we're diving into the second half of the season for our Cleveland Guardians.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's three players that you might think that the Guardians could acquire Kate, we saw this one on Cleveland Guardians on S.I.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: Some interesting names as we approach the all-star out of the all-star break we approached the trade deadline as well as this second half of the season.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we heard Carlos Bayer talk about a couple of names in the outfield.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple of pictures as well that you might want to look at for the back end of the bullpen.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen a role this Chapman.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen a lot of names thrown around Kate.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Any names jumped to your mind that we could acquire on this trade deadline.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the right now the speculation on some bull pen additions is a bit all over the place in the sense of like I don't know if there's a clear cut fit like I think it's just going to be Whoever gives the best off for Cleveland's way they're just going to take a chance on because right now there isn't really anyone out there that you go okay He's obviously on the market.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's performing really well his value makes sense for Cleveland.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know you're always not going to have that perfect fit, but
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: in this scenario for Cleveland.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to shake things up too much or give away too much.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that if anything, you're going to look at the guardians trying to get a couple prospects, I don't think they'll move much from the major league roster.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, they'll throw in one of the guys out of the bullpen or DFA, one of the processes to make room.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think you're going to break up this major league core too much.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think that what we have right now is a really strong locker room.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: The clubhouse flows really well.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: The guys battle for one another and that's an important thing and you're not going to bring in a guy who's going to tear that up or potentially mess with the fabric.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so with that, you kind of think of a guy like maybe your oldest Chapman, right?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: To me, I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, back in Cleveland, Guardians on SI, I said, you know, Chapman's a guy where I don't know at this point in his career if he could come into a young locker room like Cleveland in, in, in Tarnish it.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't think like, I don't think one that they'd let that happen.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he'd do that because to me, this isn't really an eco-heavy locker room.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, if, if he even came in with one, I don't know if it would really do much because I don't think that they would like
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: really blink in the way of that like you'd have guys who would step up and say that's not going to fly here if that happened and you'd also have a very vocal and I wouldn't say the word aggressive but a very firm manager and Steven vote like he wouldn't let that fly either like he is a very well you know reputation in that locker room and so if you go for a guy like Chapman that's not a concern to me I think that if you do it too you understand with him that that's not going to be the case.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: So, if you add Chapman in, he becomes immediately your number rate in the bullpen.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's your guy to take it up the eighth inning, and then Catesman is coming in the ninth, or if you need to, you can flip him back and forth, you can get more rest out of one another, you can get them ready for the postseason, and then it also frees up time for Ericsson Browsky to kind of get back to his form and get some time back underneath himself.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Hunter Gattis, the same case can be made.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Count Holderman again can be that guy who comes in and the sixth seventh eighth ending to get some time as well.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: I like Chapman.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if realistically it's an option for Cleveland.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of that though, I can go back to it.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Pat, I don't know if you have the same opinion.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just as clearly, there's a lot of names out there, but just now on a traction behind them yet.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would totally agree.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a couple of names that we saw and no else, right about on Cleveland Guardians on SI.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Lane Thomas is the other one, you know, bringing our reunion with him.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't really, doesn't really move the needle for me at all.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, our oldest childman who we talked about here and talked about a couple months back as well.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: The only one that really kind of makes any sense to me is Spencer Steer for the Cincinnati Reds.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, I thought that was kind of an interesting one.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, basically 750 OPS, 14 homerons, as Noah talks about here, but, uh, you know, bringing him in in the outfield that doesn't really, it seems like there's already, uh, sort of a crowded outfield already.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: I know that they love the utility guys, like Daniel Schneemann, where they can move them in and out.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's sort of thing.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're kind of stuck with Stephen Clawn right now and left field.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: You move him defensively in a centerfield.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's sort of thing, but that might just be one where like, okay, well, we'll bring him in if he can, uh, you know,
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: If he's a right hand a hit or force or even a switch hit or I don't I'm not really really sure, but he hits pretty well against the lefties.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: That would be one thing that would intrigue the Guardians.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if they want to bring in that outfielder.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: I know he plays a little bit of first base as well, too, but that was an interesting name to me.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: None of them scream out of like great fits though, right?
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: Well, like we talked about on the daily flock with Jason Locke and for where he thinks Adley Ruchman is perfect fit for the Yankees, right?
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's some big names that could go to some big teams.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't really see that for the Cleveland Guardians right now.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the only one that like somewhat even like remotely interests me on a on a realistic level of a guy who you could give up like very little four and try to land is Mason Montgomery from the pirates.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a guy who, you know, played really well these past couple years with Tampa Bay.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: He obviously came out and exploded in that first year back in 24 through nine games had a 1-8 ERA then he kind of faltered a bit back in 2025 with a 5-6 ERA.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: This year is sitting around a four and that's okay.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's not something that's going to jump off the sheet, but we've seen guys have come to Cleveland and come out of the bullpen, and with Montgomery being a lefty, you need one to the bunch.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: So if you go from Montgomery, you try to give them the end of the campaign to see how he performs, but he's just strike out machine.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you can just limit the hits, limit the chances to let guys on the bags via the home run or the walk or whatever it may be.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, 13.4 strikeouts per night, and it's a strong clip, and that's a guy who competes
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: I like Montgomery from the left hand perspective, especially if Eric Subrowski's a question mark down the back half of the campaign, but I think all of it really matters on what happened to Subrowski and what happens with Aaron, because he's obviously on that injured list.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's a difficult spot to be in, but if you want to compete, I don't think you can write out Cody Hoyer.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you can write out Will Deon, they're just not ready yet, and that's not the case that they're not going to be by the end of time next season rolls around.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: But if you really want to compete, Montgomery's a guy I'm going to have on my list to next end.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: And see what the power is.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Grabbing.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Here's George Blero here's CJ K-Fist or here's one Brito for Mason Montgomery like a 26-year-old left-year reliever with plenty of room ahead of him to grow.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: Why not?
- 13:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's interesting too because, you know, coming off the heels of this all-star break, right?
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: Junior Camino, he was kind of a name that was all over the Guardian's Twitter verse, right?
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: Big plays Matt Fontana was talking about how, you know, it's things to see him in the in the home run derby, it's things to you guys like Yandee Diaz, guys like that, making all-star games and that sort of deal, but at a certain point in time, like,
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: we talk about the musical chairs on the show at all times because the guardians they've got a glut of all these players right like they've got for a long time who's the middle infielders now it's all outfielders at this point it's a little bit different in the back of the bullpen you're willing to make maybe make some more moves but at a certain point you kind of got to burn the firewood right like you have these prospects but they're not doing any good at the at the major league level so at a certain point just a lot of said to just trade the prospects for a while there in the Andromyla era
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: We were like, well, we love our frances coming here as of the world.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: We love these guys.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: That sort of thing.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: But at a certain point, you can see what somebody like Andrew Miller can do on a Major League roster.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it goes back to our discussion that we had in the last show, Pat, you know, we're talking about how good the minor league system is, and how talented, how deep it is.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: It might not be that pitching talent in that depth that we've had in years past, but it's everywhere else.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we see so many guys from this 20-25 class have already worked their way up to double-eye and higher, and that, to me, just signals an organization that's ready to grow and continue to push that envelope forward.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: And you look specifically at keep positions I highlighted out in an article a couple days back on Cleveland Gardens on SI.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: The middle infields congested right now.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: You already have your chat of spasana at second base for the foreseeable future.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: You're never setting him back down unless he had some crazy injuries standing.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: You need to rehab him for a bit and he doesn't get back underneath his feet.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: But he's the he's the future right now.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Rokio again isn't going to be didn't move or change journey sort of thing there.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: So you're on hell.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're Milan Tolentinos.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're Juan Britos.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: their roles are going to have to change if they don't change which they haven't yet you have to move that because what else are you doing with them right now because I understand the world where you decided to change positions and let's say you you flex an out to third base you flex for you flex brito or tool into the outfield that just destroys their trade value so Cleveland right now would will love to capitalize on that um... and what they're going to want to try to do is you know say hey we've got these guys right now pat
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: let's trade them while they're values high.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not move their positions around because if anything it's going to be something that the other team can do.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that can tank their value.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: But for now, let's move on from them reload, get some more guys up to the big level in the bullpen or right handed bath that's really performing well.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: And let's chase something this year.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Let's at least establish these youngsters to say, hey, we might not win the world series this year.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: But let's see if there's a compete, you know what I mean?
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: You want to compete for Travis Pazana.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: You want to compete for Chase Alatera.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: You want to give Parker Messick a chance of a taste of postseason action.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's going to set the stage for them now to build the ground roots and get going for what's down the line.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm one of the things too is like you do kind of see with Cooper angle and guys like that when you do bring them up before they're ready at the major league level You kind of do torpedo their trade value a little bit.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think Cooper angle has lost any value within the organization itself But when you bring up a guy like that and you see him throw in the ball into the stands and that sort of stuff like
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: the perception is the reality in the trade market whether it's fair or whether it's not somebody like that he loses his value right like you saw him come up and go two for twenty or whatever it was you know if Kaleo Watson wasn't able to straighten it out he loses some of the value the perception is uh is the value there in the trade market sort of for the uh for uh major league baseball of course but i think there's going to be a whole bunch of other guys we got to take a look at i'm glad you mentioned Travis Bazana in there too because a lot of people making
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: making assumptions about that that threat draft class, you know, he's the first one of his draft class.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: So up all schemes.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: First one, one in his rookie season to make the all star game.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: We just saw today news from the Cincinnati Reds as well, Chase Burns getting a long term extension.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think Travis Pazana could be the next one up on the list for the Cleveland Garden.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's get a long term extension.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: I love that you pivoted here because this is a great discussion.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking about this morning once I saw the Chase Burns news come across by asking.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was like,
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is crazy because, you know, it's not crazy that Chase Burns got that extension because we love Chase Burns the sense that he's a really good player and I think he's top 10 right now in baseball on the pitching side in war, but he's he's been remarkable in to me again, we see that we see the Connor Griffin extension we see all these other guys getting locked down to long-term deals and you sit there as as someone who's either covering or a fan of or connected to the Cleveland Guardians and you're gonna go in
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Once in our turn, what was the last extension?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Was it Tanner Bobby?
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Tanner Bobby.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you think about it.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: What was the last extension?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: Was it Tanner Bobby?
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, you think of that the 2016 era, right?
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, young goms, then you go to Jason Kippenist, then you go to Eddie and Karnasio and later on, those sort of guys, and then I'd be hard pressed to think of a long-term extension guy who got legitimate money besides Tanner Bobby.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_02]: So it's got to be Travis Pazana next.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's either going to be Travis Pazana in my choice.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: In my book, yeah, it's one of these four guys.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's Travis Pazonum.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's a chase still.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, it's one of five now and I don't think about it.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's one of these five that gets the next extension.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know it's a wide book, but Travis Pazonum, Chase Delater, Parker Mastic, Gavin Williams, or Brian Rokio.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think of the bunch, the least, I'm convinced of getting an extension is Gavin Williams.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know if that's going to end up happening or not.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think Parker Mastic makes a lot of sense.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think he loves Cleveland and the chances he's been given by the organization and some of that backing and that support he's been given.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how you couldn't want to stay here, of course.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then to me, Brian Rokio has embodied the city.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's lived into it, he's leaned into it, he's done everything that the team has asked him to do.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: He was sent down a triple.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: A last year, he rebounded performed well, has stepped up in huge moments.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: The character that he has, the way the city loves him, it just makes sense to see,
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: a pretty, not a, not a very expensive deal, not a cheap one, but a pretty middle of the road deal for five to seven years for Brian Rokio.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then from there, we'll see what tastes a lot of goods.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what Travis Pazana gets.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: But here in the next month or so, you've got to invest in this team.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to show from the front office perspective.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to show you care.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm curious.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: You think it's one of those pat?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's got to be for me.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think, you know, the next one I think to get it would be probably Brian Rokio.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: If you put five or 16 in front of him right now, it's got to be on the other side.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think either side would, you know, five or 75, you might be a little bit rich for that, but just thinking of, you know, yearly annual value, that sort of stuff.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: But to me, Brian Rokio signing that, like I think he wants to stay in here in Cleveland long term, that sort of thing.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think Chase DeLater knows his values a little bit higher.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_02]: Gavin Williams, you talk about him.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: I got two words for you right there.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: Scott Boris.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's not happening.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: I do not see.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: I do not see a long term one.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: He reshared after his last 11 strikeout game.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_02]: He shared the story on his Instagram of the Guardian's graphic that Scott Boris put on his, you know, Instagram.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: So there's repositioning there and we'll see after the the lockout that sort of deal.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: I do not see that coming down anytime soon.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's a little bit sad to talk about, too, but it could have been Steven Kwan at this point.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: It could have been this guy that we were talking about right now.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a different world that we're talking about.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: If it wasn't Tanner Bobby, it wasn't Steven Kwan, but now we've got this new crop of players, you know, Kate, and that is way more encouraging to me, too, because the way that the fans loved Steven Kwan and the way he was playing, you know, it just feels like that magic is completely gone.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like it could be there with Travis Beson if he continues to be that lead-off spot as well.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what number you would want to give them.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot of these guys are getting seven for 100 right now.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like the number two in that pick, Travis Pazana right behind him.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: Chase Burns gets seven for 105, right?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: And we saw the Pirate's extensions is basically seven for 105.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: So that seems to me like it would be the number right now.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not opposed to it.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know understand like you haven't seen a lot from Bazana yet, but you haven't seen a little either.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like you've seen a really strong middle ground.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot with some of these young guys, you just have to invest in them to give them the confidence that they don't have to play for a contract for seven years.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: And they can just go out there and perform and play on for their city and the guys along side of them So I'd like to see that for a bus on.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: I like to see nice seven-year Pundermillian or so a deal and say this is the guy of the future We're building around this guy.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's the next Jose Ramirez for this team at least You know from the perspective of building around the end field and then you go from there.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: I do In part in the back of my head, I do think of like a a random and extension.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see before all of those.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: I could see like a weird
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: like a Patrick Bailey.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like a Patrick Bailey or like a, I don't even know who I'm thinking of here.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like a David Fry or a Daniel C. I can see like a weird like two, three, four year extension for some one of these random villain guys performed really well.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll see I really quickly and Daniel's steaming for a moment.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: I forgot to throw this out early on the episode.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: But I saw this morning and I reposted it.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this was great.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: fifth and out some of average at third base.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's remarkable for the little time that he's played at third base and now he's had to step into a pretty much a practically new position from that sense with Jose Ramirez being out or when he's de-aging, that's crazy.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like a label.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: Well, hoses one and in sh- sh- nemen's five, yeah.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_02]: And the funny thing to me too is we saw a couple of daygames towards the end of the first half there where sh- nemen was playing shortstop and he looked like a gold look of shortstop too.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: So like it's not just it's not just at third base where he's absolutely
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: He can do everything whether you're able to put Gabriel Ari's there at third base until Jose gets back.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think there's a little bit of difference of opinion there for some people across Guardian's nation, but Daniel's name is to me, he's got to be the third baseman, especially because you're so left-handed bat heavy, I don't think you can really shoehorn guys like David frying the outfield there.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think Gabriel Ari's kind of has to shift out to the outfield at some point.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: maybe he's a pinch hitter.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, but I really do like that.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: We mentioned Schneem and then they're defensively because that's another thing that the organization is so Head over heels for is the defense.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's why Brian Rokio has gotten 15 different chances.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, you know, where The thing that you mentioned is you don't have to have that contract extension hanging over your head.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think Brian Rokio, whether we like to admit it or not It feels like he's had contract extension sort of
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: hanging over his head for such a long time because he signed so young because he's been in the organization.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: One place for so long, I think that does sort of hang over his head a little bit, but the way he's been playing, they do think they need to sign him.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the one thing you need to see it.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'd love to see it as well.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing getting in the way, the only potential Bazana one is Kevin McGonagall.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: 8 for 150.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's a big number.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't love it necessarily.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: You have to chase it.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's the catch.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like you have to go for something of that mark.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you're Travis Pazana, I don't blame him.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like how could you?
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: But that just resets the the market.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it's funny.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: Cause we talk about it from that sense.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: But then you don't really think about it in the world of baseball as much as you do.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like the NFL for a quarterback, right?
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: but no, it's true like for a young guy like Travis Pazano, a young guy like Kevin McGonagall, a young guy like Connor Griffin, like these guys, when they signed that extension, the guys in the similar positions, the middle infield, like you're chasing each other.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: There's a recent Josh Allen's the high-speed quarterback and then Matthew Stafford and then you know Lamar Jackson that sort of thing It's a it's a leapfrog sort of situation Travis Pazana.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I could sign up for $150 million today.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: I do love where he's at I'd love seeing him in the All-Star Break hopefully Kade.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: He proves us wrong in this second half this season because there's a long way to go
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, all central is still kind of wide open right now.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: I like to think that the Guardians are in the lead here.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they're still up at the top of the division, but I'd like to think that they're in the driver seat for the rest of the season Cade.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: As we head into the second half of the season, what do you think you need to see from the Guardians for them to wrap up that Aels Central Crown?
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: bats bats bats and the bullpen yes get the bats going build some consistency get the bullpen go and build some consistency it's really all clevel needs right now and all the chance to push towards the posties number one the American League Central got to keep it that way and you got to come out of the break hot yeah our last thought here as Jose Ramirez hopefully he can near uh getting back out of the field for our Cleveland Guardians around I would say early August maybe the first week of August is hopefully when they're targeting uh I know Andre not talked about that as well around the trade deadline but Kade
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Think back when Jose Ramirez was injured, we thought the Guardians would be pretty okay.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's kind of exactly what they've been.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: They haven't really been great.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: They haven't been terrible.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: They did kind of bottom out for a little bit there in the month of June.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: And then towards the end there of June, they started to get it back in order.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then that series against the Marlins did help as you head into the break.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: But I think they've been able to hold it down during this Jose Ramirez injury segment of the season, I guess you could say.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: But heading into the second half of the season, they're going to have to put their foot back on the pedal.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, everyone was everyone was ripping me up and was ripping anyone who said that positive Inject price of vibes.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: They were like, oh, you can't be positive.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna fall off a cliff and I all I said was you just have to stay afloat Yeah, I think that you know, Jose or Mirrors obviously is a incredible player on how Martinez
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: an incredible player.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: Chased a lot and incredible player.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: When all three went down to me, I still sat there and thought, you know, there's still a lot of pieces on this team.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: They'll find a way to step up.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: They'll find a way to get to the storm.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: They've done just that.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now, though, you hit the ground running coming out of the break.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: You've been without those guys for a bit of time now, delawters hitting back up.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: Martinez Ramirez are returning soon.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: Put yourself in a position that when they get back in, you don't have to wait for them to catch back up.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: they can come in join us side by side and you can care them along to when they're running with you side by side.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of room to grow for Cleveland down the back half of the year, but I'm feeling good about where they're at.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I feel great about where they're at as well.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: Seven games at home to begin the second half of the season as well.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm maybe at six games, but long homestand to begin the second half of the season here, the pirates coming into town.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: We welcome them this Friday Saturday and Sunday.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: Make sure you get out to the ballpark.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: There's going to be a lot of pregame.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: Two dollar beers in the district so it's gonna be a great great weekend here at the ballpark.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully the guardians can get back on the right foot But as we begin the second half make sure you stay tuned here on the big play sports never every single day Big play Cleveland live from 12 to 130 is whether gonna have all the news you need to know the LeBron decision Will it ever happen with a brown tape quarterback will it ever happen?
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: But we got you covered here for your guardians coverage right here on the Cleveland Guardians on SI report for Kate Krakis and Pat McGuire.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see you next time
