Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. Probably back again. I really
- 0:05Speaker 1: don't know why or how, but I am back, still
- 0:09Speaker 1: doing this. So I don't really have anything non beneficial
- 0:13Speaker 1: to talk to you about today, thank god, right, But
- 0:17Speaker 1: I do want to start by saying, Yeah, we're gonna
- 0:20Speaker 1: talk about episode nine, and it's gonna be a lot
- 0:22Speaker 1: and I expect this episode to run fairly long, and
- 0:26Speaker 1: I've been trying to think of, like how I'm going
- 0:28Speaker 1: to structure this because there's a lot that needs to
- 0:30Speaker 1: be discussed, so I may stop multiple times, you know,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and discuss thing instead of doing it at the end,
- 0:36Speaker 1: which I already you know, do, But I just wanted
- 0:39Speaker 1: to put that out there. I'll do what I can
- 0:41Speaker 1: to make this make sense and not be a horrible
- 0:43Speaker 1: experience for you. But let's face it, it might be.
- 0:46Speaker 1: You know, this show might be a horrible experience for you.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised, especially episode nine. So let's just
- 0:55Speaker 1: get into the horrible experience. Maybe, But first, remember last
- 1:00Speaker 1: season when we did Windbreaker. I mean, it's only been
- 1:04Speaker 1: nine episodes into Banana Fish since then, but maybe this
- 1:07Speaker 1: has traumatized you so much that you don't even remember
- 1:09Speaker 1: it anymore. But you remember when Swoe was fighting one
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the dudes from Sishtorin and he was like really
- 1:15Speaker 1: pissed off, and he was telling him about how you
- 1:18Speaker 1: become an adult, and he said that in order to
- 1:21Speaker 1: be an adult, you had to be able to empathize
- 1:23Speaker 1: with people, right, And you remember what he said, you
- 1:26Speaker 1: needed to have empathy. It's okay, take your time, that's right.
- 1:31Speaker 1: To have empathy, you need to have imagination and experience.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I've been waiting to do this for nine weeks. Anyway,
- 1:39Speaker 1: maybe this is the experience part of Banana Fish for
- 1:41Speaker 1: some of these characters. Hopefully that scared the shit out
- 1:45Speaker 1: of you. Let's do it. So. Episode nine is called
- 1:49Speaker 1: Save Me the Woltz, which is also the title of
- 1:53Speaker 1: a semi autobiographical novel by Zelda FitzGeralds, which I guess
- 1:58Speaker 1: is the wife of f Scott Fitzgerald or whatever. It
- 2:02Speaker 1: was a novel that she wrote that sounds fine from
- 2:05Speaker 1: the Wikipedia description, but I wanted to just tell you
- 2:09Speaker 1: only sold approximately thirteen hundred copies and netted her about
- 2:14Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty dollars, so it was not successful.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And I mean, obviously this was written in the nineteen thirty,
- 2:21Speaker 1: so one hundred and twenty dollars was a lot more
- 2:23Speaker 1: than it is today. But it's not like a million
- 2:25Speaker 1: dollars or anything, and thirteen hundred copies is nothing. So
- 2:30Speaker 1: people didn't really like it. I don't think the critics
- 2:32Speaker 1: liked it, yay, But I love this episode. So from
- 2:36Speaker 1: one thing that wasn't really well regarded to another thing
- 2:40Speaker 1: that might also not be well regarded. But I don't
- 2:42Speaker 1: really know, but I like, so let's let's do it.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I guess I really hope I can do a good job,
- 2:48Speaker 1: but I'm sorry in advance if I do not. So
- 2:52Speaker 1: you remember where we ended the last episode, the Gang
- 2:55Speaker 1: ash Max and Shunichi, and I guess also Alexis. We're
- 2:59Speaker 1: all being taken away as Alexis's home like just burned
- 3:05Speaker 1: to the ground. So yeah, so that's where we are.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So the episode starts with an outside shot of Dino's
- 3:13Speaker 1: mansion and we hear Dino say it's an honor to
- 3:16Speaker 1: meet you, and then we cut to inside where Dino
- 3:19Speaker 1: and Hua Lung are shaking hands and Huaalung says, the
- 3:24Speaker 1: howner's all mine. I simply lent my brother a hand.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Dino thinks to himself, what an ambitious young man, and
- 3:32Speaker 1: Huaalung thinks there's no messing around with him. Huh. Now
- 3:36Speaker 1: we cut to a room where Yue Lung is sitting
- 3:38Speaker 1: in a chair and Shorter is, I guess, sitting on
- 3:41Speaker 1: like a small couch like a love seat with ag
- 3:43Speaker 1: resting on him, and there are dudes from the Corsican
- 3:47Speaker 1: and Chinese mafias like kind of standing around them. Shorter
- 3:51Speaker 1: to Yue Lung says, why are you here, and Yue
- 3:54Speaker 1: Lung responds for the exact same reason as you two.
- 3:58Speaker 1: My big brother sent me as a token of friend
- 4:00Speaker 1: from Chinatown. Shorter kind of pauses to take this in
- 4:04Speaker 1: and then says, you poor guy being used like that,
- 4:07Speaker 1: And one of the Chinese mafia dudes is like, asshole,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and Yuilan is like, it's fine, it's the truth. At
- 4:14Speaker 1: this point, the door opens and we see Dino Arthur
- 4:17Speaker 1: and two other guys they like walk in and Dino
- 4:21Speaker 1: looks over at Shorter and Shorter gulps because I would
- 4:24Speaker 1: be afraid of him too, and Dino's like, so we
- 4:27Speaker 1: finally meet Shorter Wong. Some of the Corsican mafia guys
- 4:30Speaker 1: start to close it on shorter, and he takes out
- 4:33Speaker 1: his knife and he's like trying to keep them away,
- 4:35Speaker 1: but they grab him. They put their arms like around
- 4:37Speaker 1: his neck and they pull Ag away from him, and
- 4:40Speaker 1: then they like maybe knock him out, but I'm not
- 4:41Speaker 1: really sure, but we don't knock people out because traumatic
- 4:46Speaker 1: brain injuries. Guys, please don't do that. Dino sits down
- 4:49Speaker 1: and Juile Loung says, this is our youngest brother, Yueilon,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and Dino's like, oh my, he's so beautiful. I thought
- 4:57Speaker 1: he was a woman. Qui Loung says, if he pleases you,
- 5:03Speaker 1: our brother says you're welcome to keep him. Really, guys,
- 5:07Speaker 1: Dino's like, oh that's wonderful. I'll take care of him
- 5:10Speaker 1: as a dear guest. Wa Loong to you along says,
- 5:15Speaker 1: wake him up. Uelong pokes AG's neck with like a needle,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and Wua Loong says it's acupuncture anesthesia, which isn't a
- 5:23Speaker 1: real thing. Ag then opens his eyes slowly and he's
- 5:27Speaker 1: like trying to figure out where he is, and Arthur
- 5:31Speaker 1: like leans in over the couch like right next to him,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and he says, remember me, samurai boy. AG's eyes widen
- 5:38Speaker 1: and he's like Arthur, and Arthur says, don't worry, ashe
- 5:42Speaker 1: will be here soon enough to try to save you,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and Dino's like, nice to meet you, young man. AG
- 5:48Speaker 1: turns because he hasn't even realized that Dino is there.
- 5:51Speaker 1: He's really just been focused in on Arthur and he
- 5:53Speaker 1: sees that Dino is sitting across from him, and Dino says,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'm Goalzen, I'm the owner of your best friend Ash.
- 6:01Speaker 1: What the fuck? So quick quick pause here, just to say,
- 6:06Speaker 1: remember when I was talking about how I wanted to
- 6:09Speaker 1: be free? This person literally thinks that he owns him,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and maybe he does anyway, At this point, I think
- 6:16Speaker 1: Ag like fully understands what is happening, and he like
- 6:20Speaker 1: stands up and he tries to get away, but he's
- 6:23Speaker 1: weak obviously, and he stumbles, and Yue Lung catches him
- 6:28Speaker 1: and says, careful, your muscles are still numb. AG looks
- 6:32Speaker 1: at you along and is like, yow she they caught
- 6:35Speaker 1: you too, Ag, You're so sweet. Arthur laughs and he's like,
- 6:39Speaker 1: how naive can you be? Ash must have had his
- 6:41Speaker 1: hands full taking care of you. That boy's the little
- 6:44Speaker 1: brother of the Lee guy that sold you out. AG
- 6:46Speaker 1: looks at Yue Lung super confused, and Arthur continues, but
- 6:51Speaker 1: that's not all. Check out who betrayed Ash and kidnapped you?
- 6:55Speaker 1: And he points and we see Shorter being held up
- 6:58Speaker 1: by some dudes who are like behind Arthur, and AG
- 7:03Speaker 1: looks at Shorter like super confused, and then he looks
- 7:06Speaker 1: back over at Arthur and he says, you can't trick
- 7:09Speaker 1: me into believing that. And at this point AG kind
- 7:11Speaker 1: of takes Arthur by the collar like lightly and says,
- 7:15Speaker 1: Shorter isn't a coward like you. Arthur like brushes him
- 7:19Speaker 1: off and says, you hear that he really trusts you,
- 7:22Speaker 1: doesn'ty Aj makes his way over to Shorter, who is
- 7:26Speaker 1: I guess not really passed out right now, but we
- 7:28Speaker 1: can't really tell because he's still got a song last son,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and AG says, there's no way you'd betray Ash. He's lying,
- 7:34Speaker 1: right Shorter. Shorter is at this point clearly awake, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: he doesn't say anything. He just looks so sad and
- 7:42Speaker 1: so ashamed of himself, and AG understands. I think two
- 7:47Speaker 1: guys pull Ag away from Shorter, and Age's like Shorter
- 7:51Speaker 1: and Shorter is like Ag. And two other guys are
- 7:55Speaker 1: like pulling Shorter away, and Age's like he's lying, right,
- 7:58Speaker 1: tell me, Arthur's lying, and Shorter says Agi, I promise all.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And then the doors close and they drag him away.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Two of the guys hold Agi down in front of Dino,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and Dino says, we have a big job waiting for him.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Oh no. He then grabs Agi by the chin, which
- 8:16Speaker 1: which never fails to make me uncomfortable, and says, and
- 8:19Speaker 1: for you too. And at this, of course Ag looks
- 8:23Speaker 1: fucking terrified, and I'm pretty terrified too, And then we
- 8:27Speaker 1: go to the opening. Yay I guess back from the opening,
- 8:30Speaker 1: we have an exterior shot of a plane and a
- 8:33Speaker 1: voice saying you'll see the skyscrapers in about thirty minutes,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and then we see that it's like that really terrible
- 8:38Speaker 1: dude that has been like leading the kind of Chinese
- 8:41Speaker 1: mafia part that you know, took Ash and everybody hostage
- 8:45Speaker 1: or whatever, and we see that Ash, Shunichi and Max
- 8:49Speaker 1: are like sitting on the floor of the plane like
- 8:53Speaker 1: a kind of a cargo y plane. I don't really
- 8:55Speaker 1: know how to explain it. And the guy says, it's
- 8:58Speaker 1: your home, sweet home, New York, right little links. Ash
- 9:01Speaker 1: does not look happy back to Dino and Arthur, and
- 9:05Speaker 1: Arthur says that you a lungboy. He's poisoned bait thrown
- 9:09Speaker 1: here from Chinatown. Dino is reading a newspaper and he's like,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I don't need you to tell me that. So have
- 9:15Speaker 1: you rounded up all the downtown gangs? And Arthur's like, yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 1: except Ash's group. They chose Ash over you, And Dino's like,
- 9:22Speaker 1: same goes for you. Ashe refused my help and he
- 9:25Speaker 1: still became their boss. He did it all himself. This
- 9:28Speaker 1: looks like it maybe pisses Arthur off a little bit,
- 9:31Speaker 1: but then he chuckles and says, you still regret losing him.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Dino sets down the newspaper. He's still holding it though,
- 9:38Speaker 1: and he says, I raised him, and he's gripping the
- 9:41Speaker 1: paper tightly. I found him, and I polished him and
- 9:43Speaker 1: taught him. I created him. He looks so pissed off,
- 9:47Speaker 1: by the way, and now I have to kill him.
- 9:50Speaker 1: You wouldn't understand. And there's a knock on the door.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Some guy opens it and says, Papa, everything's ready. Dino's like,
- 10:00Speaker 1: let's get ready to receive our guests. We then go
- 10:03Speaker 1: to kind of like a medical sciency looking room. I
- 10:07Speaker 1: can't think of what it would be called. You know,
- 10:09Speaker 1: everything is like chrome ish and very clean. Yeah, And
- 10:15Speaker 1: Shorter is in the center of the room and he's
- 10:17Speaker 1: strapped to a chair, shirtless, while a bunch of scientists
- 10:22Speaker 1: maybe or doctors or something are like busily working around
- 10:26Speaker 1: the room. And Shorter to Abraham, who's there, says I've
- 10:31Speaker 1: seen you before. Abraham is busy doing something and not
- 10:34Speaker 1: looking at Shorter, and Shorter says, you shot Griffin. At that,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Abraham gasps and walks over to Shorter and he's like,
- 10:42Speaker 1: it wasn't my fault. Shorter's like, try telling that to Ash,
- 10:45Speaker 1: the little brother of the guy you killed. Abraham gasps,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and Shorter smiles and says he'll kill you for sure.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Abraham is pretty shaken by this, and he's like shut up,
- 10:54Speaker 1: he's powerless, and you know's like be quiet. And they
- 10:58Speaker 1: both look over and there's like this kind of like
- 11:00Speaker 1: balcony catwalk area observation deck thing above the room. Dino
- 11:06Speaker 1: Arthur and that guy that I don't know his name
- 11:09Speaker 1: because they don't ever give his name. I actually wrote that,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and then I was like I have to find it
- 11:13Speaker 1: because I remember that in volume seven of the manga
- 11:16Speaker 1: they say his name. His name is Gregory yay. So
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's like another of Dino's kind of right hand dude
- 11:22Speaker 1: people's and I see him all the time and he
- 11:24Speaker 1: just like doesn't have a name, so Gregory's there. So anyway, Arthur,
- 11:28Speaker 1: Gino and Gregory are on this balcony catwalk observation thing
- 11:32Speaker 1: and Dino says, is everything ready? And Abraham's like, yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 1: it's gonna go perfectly this time. Great. I don't like
- 11:40Speaker 1: where any of this is going, and Shorter to himself
- 11:42Speaker 1: is like, is he talking about banana fish? And then
- 11:45Speaker 1: to everyone says, you got all this equipment and all
- 11:47Speaker 1: you can make is dud drugs. Huh. Abraham is filling
- 11:50Speaker 1: a syringe with something white, and he says, you tell
- 11:54Speaker 1: us if it's a dut or not. Fuck. He holds
- 11:57Speaker 1: the syringe menacingly and suddenly understands the situation and he says,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you're using me as a labret. A couple of doctors
- 12:05Speaker 1: strap him down and he's shaking because I would also
- 12:08Speaker 1: be shaking. And then we hear ag from offscreen say
- 12:12Speaker 1: Shorter and Shorter looks over and he sees a handcuffed
- 12:14Speaker 1: Ag being pulled into the room by two guys. Shorter's
- 12:17Speaker 1: like AG, and Dino says begin at this. Abraham slides
- 12:23Speaker 1: the syringe into Shorter's arm and Shorter's like, shit, you bastards,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'll kill you. And Ag is struggling as he's watching
- 12:29Speaker 1: this happen, and he's like, no, stop. Actually he says
- 12:32Speaker 1: ya mero, like really really loud, and it makes me sad.
- 12:35Speaker 1: And then the last of the drug enters Shorter's bloodstream,
- 12:38Speaker 1: and Shorter like gasps and he looks like he's in pain,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and Dino to Arthur says, now watch closely. This is
- 12:45Speaker 1: what Benanafici is all about. Now quick pause there to say,
- 12:49Speaker 1: oh fuck, Like, I didn't expect Shorter to actually get injected.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I thought something would happen and stop this from happening,
- 12:56Speaker 1: because I, as far as I'm aware, there's not really
- 12:59Speaker 1: something you can do to stop someone from having like
- 13:01Speaker 1: a really terrible reaction to banana fish. Apparently, like this
- 13:05Speaker 1: is it. Once this happens, there's no going back. So
- 13:08Speaker 1: what are we just gonna? Is this it? For Shorter?
- 13:10Speaker 1: Like I was just really caught off guard here anyway.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I guess a little bit of time has passed because
- 13:17Speaker 1: Shorter has electrodes like strapped to him now, and he
- 13:20Speaker 1: seems pretty calm. And a doctor who is looking at
- 13:24Speaker 1: you know, monitor and stuff says, pulse ninety eight, blood
- 13:27Speaker 1: pressure one fifty over eighty. Brain waves are altering. Pulse
- 13:31Speaker 1: is rising. Now we see Shorter looks terrified, but kind
- 13:35Speaker 1: of in a blank sort of way, kind of the
- 13:37Speaker 1: way Griff did earlier in the show. And Abraham says,
- 13:44Speaker 1: the hallucinations are starting great, and Ag is like, Shorter,
- 13:48Speaker 1: stay with me. Abraham continues, I can make him subconsciously
- 13:53Speaker 1: believe anything now, and then he grabs Ag by the
- 13:57Speaker 1: hair and he like slams him into the table and
- 13:59Speaker 1: he lifts him. That seemed unnecessary, and to Shorter, says,
- 14:04Speaker 1: now take a good look at this face. Shorter stares
- 14:08Speaker 1: at Ag in terror, and AG's like Shorter and Shorter like,
- 14:13Speaker 1: I don't know. He processes this for a few seconds,
- 14:16Speaker 1: and then he like panics and screams and starts hyperventilating.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Abraham leans in close to Shorter and he says, this
- 14:24Speaker 1: is fear you're feeling. Oh, no shit, your fear has
- 14:28Speaker 1: materialized right in front of your eyes. You can't run
- 14:31Speaker 1: from it. He pulls Ag in close, and Shorter tries
- 14:34Speaker 1: to back away, but obviously he strapped to a chair,
- 14:36Speaker 1: so we can't. And Abraham says, this is what's causing
- 14:40Speaker 1: your fear. Shorter starts screaming, and that's just wonderful, Abraham continues.
- 14:45Speaker 1: If you don't kill him, you'll suffer indescribable anguish. Fuck.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Ag looks on with tears in his eyes, and Abraham says,
- 14:54Speaker 1: kill him, tear him apart. Ag looks away and starts
- 14:58Speaker 1: to cry. Abraham's says, it's the only way you'll be
- 15:01Speaker 1: free of this misery. And you know, I guess to
- 15:04Speaker 1: the folks up in the balcony, says this is what
- 15:07Speaker 1: banana fish can accomplish. We're gonna show this to Ash.
- 15:10Speaker 1: He'll watch is his best friend rips apart that boy
- 15:13Speaker 1: that means so much to him, it'll be pure hell. Arthur,
- 15:17Speaker 1: who like actually looked pretty terrified until this moment, now
- 15:22Speaker 1: is super happy to hear that. Then we cut to
- 15:25Speaker 1: like an airport, like like a runway pretty much, and
- 15:29Speaker 1: looks like we're behind like a chain link fence looking
- 15:32Speaker 1: into the runway area, but we can't see who we're with,
- 15:36Speaker 1: like it's their perspective, whoever they are, and a voice says,
- 15:41Speaker 1: Ash links and another voice is like, no doubt about it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And we see Ash being like put into a car,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and another voice says, is shorter there too, and the
- 15:51Speaker 1: first person's like, we have to tell the boss. Oh.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Then we cut to someone on a phone that we
- 15:58Speaker 1: can't really see who they are, the partial obscured, but
- 16:01Speaker 1: it's clearly Dino because we can hear his voice and
- 16:03Speaker 1: he says, I see and he hangs up, and then
- 16:06Speaker 1: he like walks away from the phone and he is naked. Yeah.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So then we see that he's obviously in a bedroom
- 16:15Speaker 1: and Yue Lung is laying on the bed, definitely naked,
- 16:19Speaker 1: and he's like, you leaving. Dino is putting on a
- 16:23Speaker 1: robe and he says the Lynx has arrived. Yue Lung
- 16:26Speaker 1: sits up and is like, but we were about to
- 16:29Speaker 1: have so much fun. And he looks over and we
- 16:33Speaker 1: see that Ag is tied to the other side of
- 16:35Speaker 1: the bed, definitely naked. Wincing, yue Lung says he must
- 16:40Speaker 1: be disappointed too. I don't think he's disappointed. Dino's like,
- 16:45Speaker 1: it can't be helped. I invited them to dinner. You'll
- 16:48Speaker 1: be dining with us too. Ue Lung starts to put
- 16:51Speaker 1: on his robe and is like, I can't wait reuniting
- 16:54Speaker 1: with my dear friend ash Lynx. Dino enters a code
- 16:59Speaker 1: on the door lock, which means that you have to
- 17:02Speaker 1: enter a code to leave this room, which is just wonderful,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and he says, I'm sure he feels the same way. Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yuey Lung watches intently as he enters the code and
- 17:15Speaker 1: Dino leaps. He then stands and looks over at super
- 17:20Speaker 1: terrified Ag and he says, something on your mind, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: Ag says, are you okay with all of this? Yue
- 17:27Speaker 1: Lung's like, what sleeping with him? Or how he was
- 17:30Speaker 1: going to enjoy us both at the same time, And
- 17:33Speaker 1: at this point he is untying Ag, and Ag winces
- 17:37Speaker 1: and sits up, and he's like both and Yui Lung's like,
- 17:40Speaker 1: sound like it's that big of a deal. Ash has
- 17:42Speaker 1: done it too. He was one of Golzine's prostitutes. He
- 17:45Speaker 1: made his way up with his skills and intelligence. No
- 17:47Speaker 1: use glossing over it. He did what he had to
- 17:49Speaker 1: in order to survive. Seems like you had a much
- 17:52Speaker 1: happier upbringing. Though ag looks down, Uelun continues, maybe that's
- 17:57Speaker 1: why you irritate me so much. But you can't go
- 18:00Speaker 1: away from this anymore. You need to toughen up and
- 18:02Speaker 1: face it. This is the world Ash lives in, so
- 18:05Speaker 1: quick pause to say, yeah, that's the rest of it,
- 18:09Speaker 1: more or less. I mean, there's more, but that's the
- 18:12Speaker 1: most of it. But why did Uelung know? Why does
- 18:16Speaker 1: everyone know? I do want to say that in the
- 18:19Speaker 1: manga hear this conversation is a little bit longer, a
- 18:22Speaker 1: little bit more informative. But also Uelung gets a couple
- 18:25Speaker 1: of things wrong, so I guess it's fine that it
- 18:28Speaker 1: was cut in the manga, though, like, I don't know,
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's really clear that yue Lung probably doesn't like himself
- 18:34Speaker 1: from this conversation. He talks about this as being Ash's
- 18:38Speaker 1: dark side, which is so concerning. I guess because this
- 18:44Speaker 1: is something that was done to him. It's not a choice.
- 18:48Speaker 1: But either way, this is Yeah. I don't know, man,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't really know what else I
- 18:55Speaker 1: was gonna say here, so I'll just stop. Anyway, we
- 18:57Speaker 1: are now in a dining room looking down from above,
- 19:00Speaker 1: and Dino, Arthur Yue Lung, Max and Shunci are seated
- 19:04Speaker 1: and there's like waiters in such standing around, and Max
- 19:07Speaker 1: is looking at his suit and maybe two Shoonici says,
- 19:10Speaker 1: why the hell am I wearing this? What the hell's
- 19:12Speaker 1: this guy up? To? Shunichi definitely to Max says where's
- 19:16Speaker 1: a chan and the others? Dino to everyone says, seems
- 19:20Speaker 1: like our guest of honor is running late. But then
- 19:22Speaker 1: we hear the doors open and we see feet walk
- 19:25Speaker 1: into the room and Max and Shunici go like pale
- 19:29Speaker 1: or like blue in shock, which is what they do
- 19:31Speaker 1: in this anime, and Arthur looks pissed and we see
- 19:35Speaker 1: that it is Ash in a suit. Dino smiles and
- 19:38Speaker 1: he's like, so beautiful, and there's kind of a long
- 19:43Speaker 1: pause on Ash, and I bet we actually go to
- 19:46Speaker 1: commercial here, because it feels like we come back and
- 19:48Speaker 1: Dino says, so beautiful again. So that's the perfect time
- 19:51Speaker 1: for me to pause and tell you that if you
- 19:54Speaker 1: thought the reaction that Max and Shonnici had was kind
- 19:57Speaker 1: of overblown to the way Ash looked, because he does
- 20:00Speaker 1: look cleaned up and everything, But you know, it's not
- 20:05Speaker 1: that big of a deal. In my opinion. What's happening
- 20:08Speaker 1: is that you're getting the reaction from the manga. In
- 20:11Speaker 1: the manga, this is a really big deal. We basically
- 20:14Speaker 1: have the beginning of a new character design, more or
- 20:17Speaker 1: less for Ash. So throughout the course of the manga,
- 20:20Speaker 1: Ash and AG's character designs have kind of changed, especially Ashes,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and to an extent, that's because when you draw characters
- 20:30Speaker 1: for a long time, you get better at drawing them, right.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But the other characters in the manga have not changed
- 20:38Speaker 1: as much. They look very similar to the way they
- 20:40Speaker 1: do in the beginning. So this is a conscious shift
- 20:43Speaker 1: that Kemyoshi is making. And there's this big shift between
- 20:49Speaker 1: the way Ash looks when he is in La and
- 20:53Speaker 1: the way he looks when he enters the room. Here
- 20:57Speaker 1: in the manga, they do explain that, like there were
- 20:59Speaker 1: stylists and they probably cut his hair or whatever, but
- 21:02Speaker 1: he looks different. He looks really different. It's not like
- 21:05Speaker 1: the character design is totally different or it's totally inconsistent,
- 21:09Speaker 1: but that hairstyle change and everything is so like stark
- 21:12Speaker 1: and different from what we've seen Ash as so far.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That it's really interesting and I didn't even catch that
- 21:19Speaker 1: that's where it happened the first time through, but it
- 21:22Speaker 1: happens right as he walks into the dining room. So yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 1: so I actually really appreciate this, but I don't think
- 21:29Speaker 1: it comes off as dramatic of a change in the anime.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So anyway, elaborating on what's going on, Ash's hair is
- 21:38Speaker 1: really styled, and he's wearing like a green earring and
- 21:41Speaker 1: obviously a suit, and Dino says, like a born aristocrat.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And then I guess we cut to a couple of
- 21:48Speaker 1: minutes later because Ash is seated at this point and
- 21:51Speaker 1: he looks over at Yuey Lung and then Arthur like chuckles,
- 21:54Speaker 1: and he's like more like a Sphinx than the Lynx.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I feel like that joke didn't land
- 21:59Speaker 1: for me, but whatever. Some dude pours some wine into
- 22:03Speaker 1: Ash's glass and Dino says, let us begin. I chose
- 22:07Speaker 1: this especially for you. Can you tell me what it is?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Ash lifts the glass and he kind of swirls it around.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I guess to see what like legs it has. I
- 22:16Speaker 1: know very little about wine because I don't drink. Then
- 22:19Speaker 1: he kind of sniffs it and he takes a sip
- 22:21Speaker 1: and he says, Romani Conti. I believe it's a sixty nine. Nice.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Oh no, I really don't feel comfortable saying nice after
- 22:29Speaker 1: sixty nine in the show, but whatever, Just so you know. Apparently,
- 22:33Speaker 1: according to Wikipedia, Romani Conti is one of the most
- 22:37Speaker 1: sought after and expensive wines in the world. Woo in
- 22:40Speaker 1: twenty ten, seventy seven bottles sold in the US for
- 22:44Speaker 1: a total of seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars, So
- 22:47Speaker 1: that's what's going on there, So it's expensive wine. Anyway,
- 22:52Speaker 1: Dino says, Bravo, I see you still remember what I
- 22:55Speaker 1: taught you. Max is smelling his wine, trying to figure
- 22:57Speaker 1: out like how you would even know that, and like
- 22:59Speaker 1: really stressing about it in the background, and he does
- 23:01Speaker 1: this for a couple of minutes while Dina was talking,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and I was like, Eh, we probably didn't need that
- 23:06Speaker 1: comic relief, but whatever. Dino continues, this will be a
- 23:09Speaker 1: wonderful night. Do you like the present I got you?
- 23:12Speaker 1: And Ash says, you think i'd be happy that you
- 23:14Speaker 1: punched a hole in my ear? Dino is like that
- 23:18Speaker 1: jade was found especially to match the color of your eyes.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'd say it's worth about four hundred thousand dollars. Max
- 23:24Speaker 1: does a spit take and he's like four hundred thousand,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and Shunichi's like forty eight million yen. Now we know
- 23:30Speaker 1: the conversion, and Ash is like, no wonder, it's so heavy.
- 23:33Speaker 1: At this point, they get maybe served the first course.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's like a little stack of like meat and things.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I didn't really know what it was. It looked good,
- 23:40Speaker 1: I mean, if you like meat and eating things, which
- 23:43Speaker 1: I do like eating things, but I couldn't really tell
- 23:46Speaker 1: what exactly food it was. Anyway. Now, Dino says, you
- 23:51Speaker 1: might not know this, but ASH used to be precious
- 23:53Speaker 1: merchandise at a club I own. This merchandise is divided
- 23:57Speaker 1: into detailed ranks. The highest category was comprised of those
- 24:01Speaker 1: with platinum blonde hair and light green eyes, just like
- 24:04Speaker 1: precious gems. The wearer, the more expensive. Ash is just
- 24:08Speaker 1: kind of drinking the wine like mostly unfazed, which is
- 24:13Speaker 1: honestly impressive. And Dino continues, Ash was my most expensive
- 24:18Speaker 1: piece of merchandise, and Max thinks, that filthy bastard. It's
- 24:24Speaker 1: worse than that. Max, that's so tame. Anyway, Ash is like,
- 24:29Speaker 1: why aren't Agy and Shorter here? Adino says they weren't invited,
- 24:33Speaker 1: but don't worry, you'll see them later, and Arthur cuts in,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'd worry more about yourself if I were you, and
- 24:38Speaker 1: Ash says I can say the same for you, and
- 24:41Speaker 1: Arthur's like, what did you say? And Tino's like, drop it, Ash,
- 24:46Speaker 1: I gave you books and a good education, and I
- 24:48Speaker 1: also taught you how to shoot a gun, but I
- 24:50Speaker 1: never imagine you'd point that gun me. Why not? Ash
- 24:54Speaker 1: is like smirking slightly here. Now in the manga, he's
- 24:59Speaker 1: been on off smirking through this whole conversation, including when
- 25:03Speaker 1: Dino was describing how he prices his merchandise, which he
- 25:07Speaker 1: does for a lot longer in the manga, going through
- 25:10Speaker 1: all of the eye colors and hair colors and how
- 25:14Speaker 1: they're ranked. So, yeah, I actually wish that that was
- 25:20Speaker 1: in here more because it's very clear that Ash is
- 25:23Speaker 1: just ruminating in the absurdity of all of this. But anyway,
- 25:27Speaker 1: Dino says, you are the most beautiful and most dangerous
- 25:31Speaker 1: beast there is, and that kind of makes Ash's face fall. Anyway,
- 25:36Speaker 1: at this point, a bunch of guys rush into the
- 25:38Speaker 1: room and for them point guns at Ash's head. Dino says, now,
- 25:42Speaker 1: then dinner's over. Some of their dudes aim their guns
- 25:45Speaker 1: at Tunichi and Max as well, and they look terrified,
- 25:49Speaker 1: but Ash looks mostly unfazed, and Dino's like, let's take
- 25:54Speaker 1: you to this show venue. Great. So it's important for
- 25:58Speaker 1: me to cut in here and say, hey, remember how
- 26:01Speaker 1: I was just asking why yue Lung knew all this
- 26:04Speaker 1: shit about Ash? Why does everyone know? This is why
- 26:08Speaker 1: it seems like Dino likes to brag a lot. I mean,
- 26:12Speaker 1: maybe he's just telling Max and Shunichi and Yue Lung
- 26:16Speaker 1: and Arthur because well, he knows that Max and Shunichi
- 26:20Speaker 1: are probably not gonna get out if you're alive or whatever.
- 26:23Speaker 1: But I just get the impression, based on the way
- 26:24Speaker 1: he talks about his merchandise and pricing children, that he
- 26:29Speaker 1: doesn't care who he tells. He is so far up
- 26:33Speaker 1: in the underworld that he can just do this shit
- 26:35Speaker 1: and he just gets away with it like it's no problem.
- 26:38Speaker 1: It's also very evident that he doesn't think of Ash
- 26:40Speaker 1: as a person, at least not in the traditional sense.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Maybe somehow in his sick little mind. But the idea
- 26:47Speaker 1: that he wouldn't understand how Ash would turn on him
- 26:51Speaker 1: is super fucking impressive to me, because like, there is
- 26:56Speaker 1: no reason for Ash not to turn on him, really,
- 26:59Speaker 1: And I understand he gave him an education and he
- 27:01Speaker 1: taught him how to shoot a gun, which you probably
- 27:04Speaker 1: didn't because Ash had already killed someone at that point,
- 27:06Speaker 1: but whatever, I'm sure like he helped him become a
- 27:08Speaker 1: better shot or whatever, and he like fed him and shit.
- 27:11Speaker 1: But like, and this is a terrible comparison, but it's
- 27:13Speaker 1: the only thing I can think of. It's like if
- 27:16Speaker 1: you have a parent and they're like, I took care
- 27:19Speaker 1: of you, I fed you, I clothed you, Like what
- 27:23Speaker 1: else do you want for me? Type deal? That is
- 27:26Speaker 1: the bare minimum you can do for someone feeding your child,
- 27:30Speaker 1: keeping someone alive, fucking in this case, not like having
- 27:35Speaker 1: them just overdose and discarding them. Like that's the fucking
- 27:42Speaker 1: bare minimum of being a person. Like, fuck, you do
- 27:46Speaker 1: not get thanked for giving this kid in education after
- 27:50Speaker 1: all the shit that you put him through. Sorry, So yeah,
- 27:55Speaker 1: it's impressive. Now we cut to a rundown graffiti building exterior.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I mean it looks like it's abandoned. It's night by
- 28:04Speaker 1: the way, and inside there's a bunch of punks sitting
- 28:07Speaker 1: around on like chairs and boxes, like around a lantern.
- 28:11Speaker 1: For some reason, I guess there's not any power and
- 28:14Speaker 1: I'm like, yay punks. And there's footsteps and we see Alex,
- 28:19Speaker 1: who we met in episode one and two, who you
- 28:22Speaker 1: know is part of Ash's gang, and I was super
- 28:25Speaker 1: excited to see him, and he's like startled and he's like,
- 28:27Speaker 1: who's there. And I also wanted to say that he
- 28:30Speaker 1: has brown hair and blue eyes and he just looks
- 28:32Speaker 1: like some guy. He aims his gun at the door.
- 28:35Speaker 1: And Bones, who we met in episode two I believe,
- 28:38Speaker 1: who's got like red hair in a braid and he's
- 28:40Speaker 1: wearing overalls. And Kung, who we haven't met yet but
- 28:43Speaker 1: is important and is a like a black dude who's
- 28:46Speaker 1: got like a mohawk, and it's more heavy set. They're
- 28:48Speaker 1: like ready for action two and a group approaches and
- 28:51Speaker 1: a voice says the once famous group led by Ashlynx
- 28:54Speaker 1: now living here quietly among the rats. And it looks
- 28:57Speaker 1: like it's like an Asian gang maybe, And the guy
- 29:00Speaker 1: who's talking is like in the front and he's like real,
- 29:03Speaker 1: real short, and he looks real, real young and he's
- 29:05Speaker 1: got black hair, and Alice kind of like stops aiming
- 29:08Speaker 1: the gun at them and says, who the hell are you?
- 29:11Speaker 1: And the short kid says, I'm sing Su Ling, the
- 29:16Speaker 1: boss of the Chinese, and Kng's like the boss, a
- 29:19Speaker 1: tiny rat like you, and Bone says Short is the
- 29:22Speaker 1: boss of the Chinese and sings like he's been banished
- 29:26Speaker 1: and Alex says what and Sing continues, the guy's at
- 29:29Speaker 1: the top got mad at him for hanging out with
- 29:31Speaker 1: ash anyways, do you want to start a war with us?
- 29:34Speaker 1: And Alex is like a war and Sing says, Ashling's
- 29:38Speaker 1: is back in New York. Kng's like what, Singh says,
- 29:42Speaker 1: he's being confined at Golzine's mansion. If you're up to it,
- 29:44Speaker 1: we'd be willing to work with you. Alex says, but
- 29:48Speaker 1: your bosses will get angry, right, and sings like it's
- 29:51Speaker 1: true that they made a deal with Golzein, but that's
- 29:54Speaker 1: their business, and he like crushes a can under his
- 29:56Speaker 1: foot and he says, for us, Shorter is the only boss. Yeah,
- 30:00Speaker 1: And then I guess Alex and the Ash gang kind
- 30:03Speaker 1: of pause for a second, and Alex says, fine, let's
- 30:06Speaker 1: hear you out good, save them hurry up. Back at
- 30:10Speaker 1: the mansion, we see like a door opening and yuey
- 30:15Speaker 1: Lung exits a room and he's like, what an easy lock?
- 30:19Speaker 1: And outside of the mansion, a dude is showing some
- 30:24Speaker 1: guys in and yue Lung is watching from the window
- 30:27Speaker 1: and he's like, that's Republican senator. It's Senator Kipperd by
- 30:31Speaker 1: the way, who we met I think last episode. And
- 30:33Speaker 1: a Colonel two, which is Colonel Holstock. Yeay, And then
- 30:36Speaker 1: we cut to Ash who is chained up by his arms,
- 30:40Speaker 1: like his wrists are Like, how do I explain this?
- 30:45Speaker 1: It's not very hard to explain, but for some reason
- 30:47Speaker 1: my brain is like not sure how to tell you. Anyway,
- 30:50Speaker 1: he's like wrists or chained up, so he's being kind
- 30:53Speaker 1: of forced in a standing position, and I guess his
- 30:56Speaker 1: arms are chained to something above that we can't see.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I hope that made sense. Anyway. He doesn't look happy
- 31:04Speaker 1: and Arthur is like, look at you now, Ash, Max
- 31:08Speaker 1: and Shunichi we see are chained to like a support
- 31:11Speaker 1: post for the room. I guess. Also, Alexis is there
- 31:15Speaker 1: and he's being held by two guys, and Arthur's like,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know this room, huh, this is Papadino's execution room.
- 31:23Speaker 1: It seems like a pretty good room. It's like a
- 31:25Speaker 1: large brick kind of circular room, round room or whatever,
- 31:30Speaker 1: with like a really high ceiling, and it's got pretty
- 31:33Speaker 1: low light, which I guess is good for killing people.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I don't really know. And then there's like a balcony
- 31:38Speaker 1: that's like overlooking it, which you know, it's pretty nice
- 31:41Speaker 1: if you want to watch people be killed, I guess.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Arthur continues, I bet you never imagined you'd be the
- 31:47Speaker 1: one tied up here. I think he probably did, but
- 31:49Speaker 1: that's fine. Ash smirks, and Arthur says, still acting tough, huh.
- 31:54Speaker 1: He pulls out a butterfly knife and kind of like
- 31:56Speaker 1: flicks it open like you would with a butterfly knife,
- 31:59Speaker 1: and he's slow guides it under Ash's bow tie that
- 32:02Speaker 1: he's wearing, and the point connects with Ash's throat, and
- 32:07Speaker 1: he says, let's see how long you lasts, and then
- 32:10Speaker 1: we have like a quick bit of Ash staring him down,
- 32:14Speaker 1: apparently like a boss like I wrote, and Arthur looking
- 32:17Speaker 1: smug before Arthur slashes the bow tie off super dramatically,
- 32:22Speaker 1: and it like flies and like hits one of the
- 32:24Speaker 1: support posts. And then we cut back to Ash and
- 32:28Speaker 1: we see that his neck is bleeding. It's not bleeding
- 32:30Speaker 1: terribly or anything, but it is bleeding. And he's still
- 32:33Speaker 1: basically smirking though, and Arthur, who is playing with the knife, says,
- 32:37Speaker 1: you take all the fun out of torturing. He raises
- 32:40Speaker 1: the knife again to Ash's throat and says, but for
- 32:43Speaker 1: some reason, I still really want to torture you. And
- 32:47Speaker 1: Ash says, it's because you're fucked in the head. Arthur scoffs,
- 32:51Speaker 1: and he's like, I like that spirit, keep it up.
- 32:56Speaker 1: At this point, two scientists and Ibraham walk into the
- 33:00Speaker 1: room and Alexis is like Abraham, and Abraham's like, hey,
- 33:04Speaker 1: bib bro, just watch and enjoy. I perfected the thing
- 33:07Speaker 1: you chickened out of making. Alexis says, do you realize
- 33:11Speaker 1: what you're doing? And Abraham, with an amount of craziness
- 33:16Speaker 1: in his eyes that is disturbing, says this is a
- 33:19Speaker 1: grand business venture. And Diino cuts him off and says,
- 33:23Speaker 1: keep your mouth shut. He's in the balcony, by the way,
- 33:26Speaker 1: hurry up and begin. Don't embarrass me in front of
- 33:28Speaker 1: my guests. Abraham says, I won't. He looks over and
- 33:34Speaker 1: he sees Ash and he gasps because to him, he
- 33:37Speaker 1: looks like so much like Griffin, and Ash says, you're
- 33:41Speaker 1: Abraham Dawson, right. Abraham flinches. Ash continues, you use soldiers
- 33:47Speaker 1: in Iracus lab rats and then kill them. Abraham approaches
- 33:50Speaker 1: Ash and he says, yeah, I did, because they made
- 33:52Speaker 1: fun of me. That's the reason they called me a
- 33:55Speaker 1: rat and a coward. It was just a viable revenge.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Griffin was a nice guy, but he suspected what I
- 34:00Speaker 1: was doing, so I had no choice. Ash smiles. Then
- 34:05Speaker 1: I guess I have no choice but to kill you too.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Abraham straightens up kind of in shock, and Ash says
- 34:11Speaker 1: it it'd be justifiable revenge, right. Abraham's like, shut the
- 34:15Speaker 1: fuck up. You're gonna die right here tonight. Then we
- 34:18Speaker 1: see feet stepping forward slowly in sneakers. So that makes
- 34:22Speaker 1: me really worried because most of the people are wearing
- 34:25Speaker 1: like dress shoes, so there's only maybe two characters that
- 34:27Speaker 1: would be wearing sneakers right now. And we see that
- 34:29Speaker 1: it is shorter. Fuck and he's like all sweaty and
- 34:32Speaker 1: he looks terrible, and Ash is like Shorter. Then we
- 34:37Speaker 1: cut to Yueylun, who is in the hallway and he
- 34:41Speaker 1: thinks to think Golsing had connections with them, what's he
- 34:44Speaker 1: up to? He then like sees something and he walks
- 34:47Speaker 1: over and he kind of looks into the window of
- 34:51Speaker 1: the room, which is the room that all the shit
- 34:53Speaker 1: is going on in, and then we hear Ash say
- 34:56Speaker 1: I'm so glad you're safe. Then we cut back to
- 34:58Speaker 1: them and Shorter says I'm sorry, and Ash just like,
- 35:02Speaker 1: don't worry. This isn't your fault. Oh, He's so kind,
- 35:07Speaker 1: and Shorter's like, no, it's not that. Ash looks justifiably worried,
- 35:13Speaker 1: and Shorter continues, I I can't, I can't anymore, and
- 35:19Speaker 1: Ashes like what And we kind of go to a
- 35:23Speaker 1: black screen for a minute, and then we see a
- 35:25Speaker 1: door open, like from the perspective of the person opening
- 35:28Speaker 1: the door into the room, so we don't see who's
- 35:30Speaker 1: on the other side of the door, but Ash looks
- 35:32Speaker 1: over and then we see the ag As being let
- 35:34Speaker 1: in and Ash's like ag and so Andy She's like
- 35:38Speaker 1: h and Max says you're alive. And Ash looks like
- 35:42Speaker 1: so happy to see him. For a second, I'm like
- 35:44Speaker 1: cautiously optimistic, but then he looks over. It's Shorter, and
- 35:49Speaker 1: Shorter stares at Ag in terror, and he like begins
- 35:52Speaker 1: to back away, and he puts his hands on his
- 35:54Speaker 1: head and he doubles over and he's like my head
- 35:56Speaker 1: and he's like whimpering and Ashes like it can't be
- 36:00Speaker 1: and Abraham says, that's right, it's banana fish and Max
- 36:03Speaker 1: says what. And Shorter's on the ground at this point,
- 36:06Speaker 1: and he's like holding his head and shaking, and Arthur
- 36:09Speaker 1: takes Ag by the collar and he's like, let me
- 36:12Speaker 1: show you something fun. Ash. He pulls Ag forward and
- 36:16Speaker 1: throws him onto the ground near Shorter, and he's like
- 36:19Speaker 1: remember him, Shorter. Shorter looks up and sees Ag and
- 36:22Speaker 1: he panics and he like falls backwards trying to get away,
- 36:24Speaker 1: and he says, stay away. Arthur lifts Ag by the
- 36:28Speaker 1: hair now because everyone's lifting and Ag by the hair
- 36:30Speaker 1: in this episode and says he's your enemy. Kill him.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Shorter looks at Ag in fear or confusion, or both
- 36:36Speaker 1: of them, but then his eyes fill with rage. Arthur
- 36:39Speaker 1: is still holding Ag by the hair, and he tosses
- 36:43Speaker 1: Shorter a knife and he says, here you go. Shorter
- 36:45Speaker 1: picks up the knife and stands. Arthur's like that's it,
- 36:49Speaker 1: there you go, and Ash is like no, Shorter. Arthur,
- 36:53Speaker 1: who is let go of Ag, now tosses another knife
- 36:56Speaker 1: near Ag and he's like, come on and fight back
- 36:58Speaker 1: if you don't want to die. Ag looks at the
- 37:00Speaker 1: knife and he is terribly sad, but he doesn't pick
- 37:03Speaker 1: it up, and he says, Shorter, it's me, can't you
- 37:06Speaker 1: tell Shorter. Shorter approaches Ag slowly with the knife, breathing
- 37:12Speaker 1: super super weird, and then he lunges at him and
- 37:16Speaker 1: ashes like run Agy, and Ag kind of dodges, but
- 37:19Speaker 1: his arm gets slashed and he is like still on
- 37:22Speaker 1: the floor, like he hasn't had a chance to get up,
- 37:24Speaker 1: and he winces in pain. Shorter is looming over him
- 37:27Speaker 1: with the knife and like terror in his eyes, and
- 37:31Speaker 1: ashe says, Arthur, if you want to kill me, kill me,
- 37:35Speaker 1: and he's like pulling at the chains and Arthur says,
- 37:38Speaker 1: of course it'll be my pleasure, but only after everyone else. Fuck.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I like to save the best for last, me too, Arthur,
- 37:46Speaker 1: but still that's terrible. Ash grits his teeth and Shunichi's
- 37:51Speaker 1: like watch out, and Shorter slashes at Age's chest and
- 37:54Speaker 1: Ag stumbles back against the wall, and Arthur's like, good,
- 37:57Speaker 1: that's it. Torture him to death. He's barely during him anyway.
- 38:02Speaker 1: He kicks the knife over to Ag again and he's like, hey,
- 38:06Speaker 1: if you don't want to die, you better fight back.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Ash is still trying to help, and he's like, Shorter,
- 38:11Speaker 1: please wake up, and Abraham's like, yell all you want.
- 38:15Speaker 1: He can't disobey. He's in an unbearable amount of suffering.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Plus it's not even gonna get better if he does
- 38:21Speaker 1: do what he's told to. Once he's devoid of a target,
- 38:24Speaker 1: he'll turn the knife on himself, and even if he
- 38:27Speaker 1: does survive, he'll be haunted by waking nightmares for the
- 38:29Speaker 1: rest of his life, just like your brother. And oh
- 38:34Speaker 1: my god, Ash looks so horrified and sad when he
- 38:39Speaker 1: says that, and Shorter screams and runs at Ag, and
- 38:44Speaker 1: Ag manages to dodge, and he finally picks up the knife.
- 38:47Speaker 1: We got some really nice animation of his hand trying
- 38:49Speaker 1: to pick up the knife because he kind of like
- 38:50Speaker 1: misses it first, like clumsily, and then he grabs it
- 38:53Speaker 1: and he's holding the knife out and he's like, Shorter,
- 38:56Speaker 1: it's me, Ag, can you see that? Please? Shorter. Shorter
- 39:00Speaker 1: slashes again, and Agy does his best to dodge, like
- 39:03Speaker 1: multiple times and is kind of ongoing right now, and
- 39:05Speaker 1: Shoonigi's like someone help, and maxys like stop them, and
- 39:09Speaker 1: Ash says stop and he closes his eyes and kind
- 39:12Speaker 1: of like turns away and he's like, please stop, and
- 39:15Speaker 1: Arthur's like, what a fantastic show. Dino and his friends
- 39:18Speaker 1: are in the balcony still, and Dino says, how about it, gentlemen,
- 39:22Speaker 1: with this drug, you can make people even kill their
- 39:24Speaker 1: own families. Back to the ground. We see drops of
- 39:29Speaker 1: blood hit the floor, and Ag is pretty cut up
- 39:33Speaker 1: at this point and he's like trying to catch his breath.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Shorter is also looking pretty tired, and so there's like
- 39:39Speaker 1: a pause in the carnage and Arthur's like time for
- 39:43Speaker 1: the grand finale, finish him off. Shorter, and Ash's like
- 39:47Speaker 1: stop Shorter, and Shorter screams and he lunges at Agy
- 39:51Speaker 1: and asks yells Shorter, and Shorter stops. He's not looking
- 39:56Speaker 1: at Ash. Actually he's looking at a carved stone angel
- 39:59Speaker 1: on the way. The light returns to his eyes and
- 40:03Speaker 1: then he turns to look at Ash. Arthur and everyone
- 40:06Speaker 1: else are kind of confused. Shorter walks over to Ash
- 40:09Speaker 1: and he says, Ash, I can't anymore. He grabs his
- 40:15Speaker 1: chest tightly enough that he leaves fingernail scratches on his
- 40:20Speaker 1: body doing it, and he says, set me free. I'm
- 40:24Speaker 1: in so much pain. Ash starts to cry. Arthur lifts
- 40:30Speaker 1: Ag by his shirt and says, Shorter, your enemy is
- 40:33Speaker 1: right here. Come on. Shorter puts his hands on his
- 40:36Speaker 1: head and he's shaking in fear, but he also raises
- 40:39Speaker 1: the knife, and it's just like, don't Arthur finally lets
- 40:43Speaker 1: go of Agy, just in time for Shorter to reach
- 40:44Speaker 1: him and Slash at him, and Ag is trying to evade,
- 40:47Speaker 1: and Ash is begging Agi to run, And at this
- 40:50Speaker 1: point Arthur holds out a gun to Ash and he says,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you've only got one bullet. Don't forget that. He places
- 40:58Speaker 1: the gun on the ground in front of As. At
- 41:01Speaker 1: this point, Shorter knocks the knife out of AG's hands,
- 41:04Speaker 1: not that he was really using it for anything, and
- 41:06Speaker 1: Ag stumbles backwards and he lands on his back. Shorter
- 41:10Speaker 1: rushes over and grabs Ag by the neck, and as
- 41:15Speaker 1: he chokes Ag with one hand, he lifts the knife
- 41:18Speaker 1: with the other and he's screaming and ashes like stop.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And at this Arthur pulls like a lever that allows
- 41:25Speaker 1: the chains to basically kind of release or goes slack,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and Ash's hands drop and he dives for the gun
- 41:32Speaker 1: and with the saddest look on his face, he shoots.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Shorter is hit, but we don't know where. Everyone is
- 41:39Speaker 1: frozen in shock. As some of Shorter's blood drips onto
- 41:42Speaker 1: Agy's face. Shorter drops the knife and we see that
- 41:47Speaker 1: he's bleeding from his chest and a tear slides down
- 41:50Speaker 1: his cheek and then he collapses onto Ag. Ag grabs
- 41:54Speaker 1: him and he's like, Shorter, answer me. Shorter's face is
- 41:59Speaker 1: wet with tears, but he's not there anymore, and Ag
- 42:03Speaker 1: calls out to him. Ash drops the gun in shock
- 42:07Speaker 1: and he looks down at his hands, which are shaking,
- 42:10Speaker 1: and Ag is crying in the background as Arthur laughs
- 42:14Speaker 1: and Ash is lifted back up and Arthur says, shot
- 42:19Speaker 1: right through him. How are you feeling now? He walks
- 42:21Speaker 1: over to Ash, who is you know, only standing because
- 42:25Speaker 1: the chains are holding him up at this point, and
- 42:28Speaker 1: is looking blankly at the floor, and he says, what
- 42:32Speaker 1: a good friend you are? Shorter is a lucky guy.
- 42:35Speaker 1: He grabs Ash by the chin and he forces him
- 42:38Speaker 1: to look up at him. How's it feel shooting down
- 42:40Speaker 1: your best friend? Answer me. Ag is now being held
- 42:44Speaker 1: back as Abraham goes to assess Shorter's condition, and he says,
- 42:49Speaker 1: right through the heart, and Ag is struggling, and he's like,
- 42:52Speaker 1: don't you touch him? And he's crying obviously, and Abraham
- 42:55Speaker 1: continues his brain's intact, which is great, and he looks
- 42:58Speaker 1: over at Alexis, don't you want to know how this
- 43:00Speaker 1: affects brain cells? Big brother? I don't think Alexis does.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Arthur is like, take him away? And Ash looks over
- 43:09Speaker 1: as two men are carrying Shorter out of the room,
- 43:13Speaker 1: and Alexis is also being let out, and he's like,
- 43:15Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? Take your hands off him?
- 43:18Speaker 1: Shorter Shorter and he just, you know, he's just continuing
- 43:21Speaker 1: to call for him, and we flash to everyone who
- 43:24Speaker 1: is either crying or like about to cry as Ash
- 43:26Speaker 1: is screaming for Shorter. And we see Shorter's body one
- 43:30Speaker 1: more time as the doors close, and Ash is still
- 43:34Speaker 1: calling for him, and then he's just shaking and crying
- 43:38Speaker 1: and Arthur is so fucking happy and he's laughing and
- 43:42Speaker 1: he says, this feels so fucking great, and then we
- 43:46Speaker 1: go to the title card, Save Me the Last Waltz,
- 43:51Speaker 1: and then we go to the ending theme Hooray. So
- 43:55Speaker 1: closing thoughts, I didn't expect Shorter was actually gonna die.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I think it's pretty evident by the end of the
- 44:02Speaker 1: episode that he is very much dead, so it's not
- 44:05Speaker 1: like a spoiler or anything. But yeah, I didn't expect
- 44:09Speaker 1: it to go that way. I mean, once he was
- 44:11Speaker 1: injected with banana fish, I was like, no longer as
- 44:16Speaker 1: optimistic about how this was gonna go, because it's like,
- 44:19Speaker 1: I mean, he's not gonna get better. No one seems
- 44:22Speaker 1: to get better from this. So even if he doesn't die,
- 44:25Speaker 1: it's not like the rest of his life's gonna be good, right.
- 44:28Speaker 1: But I just I don't know, I didn't really expect it.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I think a lot of the time when I see
- 44:33Speaker 1: these situations in anime or whatever, where you have a
- 44:38Speaker 1: character who seems to care about the people around them
- 44:42Speaker 1: and like Ash in this case, and it seems like
- 44:44Speaker 1: they're gonna be forced to hurt someone or make a
- 44:47Speaker 1: decision that is going to be really hard on them
- 44:51Speaker 1: or terrible for one of the people involved, Like it
- 44:54Speaker 1: doesn't actually come down to that. So I was kind
- 44:56Speaker 1: of surprised that we actually ended up with Ash shooting Shorter.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I mean, there was nothing else he could do. He's
- 45:05Speaker 1: lucky he even had the opportunity to because Shorter was
- 45:08Speaker 1: gonna kill AG, and AG wasn't gonna stop him. I
- 45:12Speaker 1: mean he couldn't. Just some Japanese kid who's not used
- 45:16Speaker 1: to this shit. So but yeah, it was he was
- 45:21Speaker 1: really hard to watch that again, Honestly, both times I cried,
- 45:25Speaker 1: not a ton, but usually character jets don't get me
- 45:28Speaker 1: at all. And I just really liked Shorter for some reason,
- 45:31Speaker 1: even though I don't think he's a great guy. I
- 45:34Speaker 1: think out of kind of the main core cast that
- 45:36Speaker 1: we've seen, he seems like he is in this kind
- 45:40Speaker 1: of gang life for kind of like the least good reasons,
- 45:44Speaker 1: Like this is just him, you know where I feel like,
- 45:47Speaker 1: you know, Ash, there's there's a bunch of stuff going
- 45:50Speaker 1: on there that he ended up this way. I feel
- 45:52Speaker 1: like Shorter just like this is him. He's kind of
- 45:55Speaker 1: a murderer sometimes, and he leads a gang, and I mean,
- 45:59Speaker 1: he's not objectively a good dude, but I liked him
- 46:04Speaker 1: and I didn't like seeing him suffer so badly. So yeah,
- 46:10Speaker 1: and I'm actually kind of getting teary eyed as I
- 46:12Speaker 1: talk about this, which is ridiculous, by the way, but yeah,
- 46:16Speaker 1: I just wasn't I really wasn't expecting it. So I
- 46:21Speaker 1: want to comment on what was happening with Shorter when
- 46:24Speaker 1: he kind of got himself back together for a minute
- 46:27Speaker 1: and he was looking at this angel statue that is
- 46:30Speaker 1: not part of the manga. There is kind of like
- 46:33Speaker 1: a break in his insanity in the manga, but there's
- 46:37Speaker 1: not any angel statues. And I actually loved this. When
- 46:42Speaker 1: I watched it the first time, I was like, I
- 46:44Speaker 1: don't have any idea what that means. I was so confused,
- 46:47Speaker 1: like maybe he's really religious and we just don't know
- 46:51Speaker 1: because something's been cut out or whatever. But no, it
- 46:54Speaker 1: is a reference to the follow up one shot called
- 46:59Speaker 1: Angel Eyes, which I highly suggest reading after you were
- 47:05Speaker 1: done watching this, not before, because it has spoilers. But
- 47:12Speaker 1: it is a very clear reference to that, and once
- 47:15Speaker 1: I realized that, I was like so overjoyed because I
- 47:20Speaker 1: totally understand why seeing an angel would break him out
- 47:24Speaker 1: of it for a minute. So really good job, either
- 47:29Speaker 1: the scriptwriter or the director whoever decided to put that
- 47:31Speaker 1: in there. I fucking love you for that. Really really
- 47:36Speaker 1: good and also made me feel like whoever it was
- 47:38Speaker 1: like kind of understood these characters and has you know,
- 47:42Speaker 1: read the manga. So yeah, I really really appreciated that.
- 47:48Speaker 1: But yeah, this was I mean, this was a lot obviously.
- 47:52Speaker 1: So where we go from here is I guess anybody's
- 47:54Speaker 1: guests with the chained up main cast, but uh yeah,
- 47:59Speaker 1: things look really bad for our main characters. What else
- 48:03Speaker 1: did I want to say? Oh? Okay, So I wanted
- 48:05Speaker 1: to just briefly touch on this because I think about
- 48:07Speaker 1: this a lot and I'm not even sure I'm right.
- 48:09Speaker 1: So if you listen to this and you're like, that's ridiculous, Michelle,
- 48:13Speaker 1: it just is, don't worry about it. I would understand.
- 48:16Speaker 1: But my take on Banana Fish so far and going
- 48:20Speaker 1: forward is that the main cast cries a lot, especially
- 48:25Speaker 1: Ash and Ag to an extent, and since they're mostly
- 48:30Speaker 1: men or all men. I feel like I don't see
- 48:33Speaker 1: that very often. I feel like, normally, when a character cries,
- 48:37Speaker 1: especially a male character, especially a male character that is
- 48:41Speaker 1: like Ash's supposed to be kind of tough, it's like
- 48:44Speaker 1: a really big deal, like it will happen once or twice.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Like I was thinking about try Gun, like the ninety
- 48:49Speaker 1: eight version or whatever, like how rare it was to
- 48:53Speaker 1: see Fash cry shit like that, Or you have it
- 48:59Speaker 1: go the other way where you have a character of
- 49:01Speaker 1: that cries all the time, like say Takamichi from Tokyo Revengers,
- 49:05Speaker 1: who's just like everyone calls a cry baby, which honestly,
- 49:10Speaker 1: it's totally cool that he cries. The problem is that,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you know, there's no balance to that. It's just crying,
- 49:16Speaker 1: Like he doesn't do cool things and cry. So normally,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I feel like we these are characters not crying unless
- 49:23Speaker 1: it's like super super pertinent or we see them crying
- 49:28Speaker 1: all the time. So I actually like this kind of measured.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Everybody seems to cry when it would be normal to cry, Like,
- 49:35Speaker 1: I mean, everything that's happening now, yeah, that would make
- 49:39Speaker 1: me cry. I don't know why I'm harping on this.
- 49:42Speaker 1: It's something that I've been thinking about. With this anime
- 49:45Speaker 1: and the manga, there's just a lot of crying, and
- 49:47Speaker 1: it all seems fine, like it's not too much crying.
- 49:50Speaker 1: It all seems appropriate. So yeah, I don't know, man,
- 49:55Speaker 1: Now you know what I think about, at least some
- 49:58Speaker 1: of it. I don't know what else to tell you, guys,
- 50:02Speaker 1: but I hope that you didn't hate episode nine. I
- 50:05Speaker 1: hope you didn't hate me talking it to you. If
- 50:08Speaker 1: you did, I am incredibly sorry and I will try
- 50:11Speaker 1: to do a better job. But I don't really know how.
- 50:14Speaker 1: So I'm just that terrible. And anyway, I'm gonna go.
- 50:18Speaker 1: I hope you have a really good whatever, and I'll
- 50:22Speaker 1: you know, see you next time or if you don't
- 50:24Speaker 1: come back, have a great life later. Weeps.
