- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Welcome back to Dirty Rush.
- 0:14Speaker 4: We're continuing our conversation with influencers who lived the sorority
- 0:18Speaker 4: experience firsthand, bringing down what rush was really like, the
- 0:22Speaker 4: moments that surprised them the most, and what they wish
- 0:25Speaker 4: they'd known going in.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Hi, Chloe, Hi, So where did you go to school?
- 0:33Speaker 4: So?
- 0:33Speaker 5: I went to Syracuse University?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, what sorority were you in?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I was in stt Okay, fun, that was the sorority.
- 0:43Speaker 2: When I was at Rutgers.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, they seem really cool, but like
- 0:47Speaker 1: I don't know, yeah.
- 0:49Speaker 5: So different, like every chapter is so different at every school.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I loved it. Oh that's great. So what was your
- 0:57Speaker 2: Rush process?
- 0:58Speaker 6: Like?
- 0:59Speaker 2: So?
- 1:00Speaker 5: I was so nervous because I knew absolutely nothing about sororities,
- 1:06Speaker 5: or especially sororities at Syracuse before going into Rush. I
- 1:10Speaker 5: didn't even know like what the sororities were, anything about
- 1:14Speaker 5: it really, and the only research I did was like
- 1:17Speaker 5: look on social media. So before going into RUSH, I
- 1:20Speaker 5: had like kind of narrowed it down to like a
- 1:23Speaker 5: few houses that you know, like looked cool online that
- 1:26Speaker 5: I could like see myself in, but I went in
- 1:30Speaker 5: like totally blind, and honestly, the process was pretty good.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Like I was so nervous, but it was like just
- 1:38Speaker 5: talking to like like girls and friends and you know,
- 1:41Speaker 5: having conversations.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And yeah, I.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Well, so I like went in like kind of knowing
- 1:49Speaker 5: like what my top house was. Like literally the first
- 1:52Speaker 5: day RUSH, I fell in love with this house and
- 1:56Speaker 5: it totally switched by the end of.
- 1:58Speaker 6: RUSH and I went a different house.
- 1:59Speaker 5: But literally up until the last round, preference round, I
- 2:03Speaker 5: was like, I'm going this house and then everything changed
- 2:08Speaker 5: and there's like a lot that went into that.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah, well, like what was like the main reasons kind
- 2:15Speaker 4: of that you did that? Like spitch you think.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Yeah, So basically so I was obsessed with this.
- 2:22Speaker 5: House and I was talking to I think it was
- 2:27Speaker 5: like after preference round, I was honestly like totally conflicted.
- 2:32Speaker 5: I didn't know which house I wanted to go, and
- 2:35Speaker 5: I was like talking to my friends, which they say,
- 2:38Speaker 5: don't talk to your friends about it because it's your process,
- 2:41Speaker 5: your decision. And one of my friends had told me
- 2:44Speaker 5: that the one house that I like really wanted their
- 2:49Speaker 5: nationals had told them that they only wanted me for
- 2:52Speaker 5: my social media followers, Oh yeah, which was literally crazy.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So going into school, how many followers did you have?
- 3:03Speaker 5: I think I had around like three hundred thousand on
- 3:06Speaker 5: TikTok okay, like around twenty thousand Instagram.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But you still had a pretty you had a pretty
- 3:12Speaker 1: big following on TikTok.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was more than like other girls that
- 3:16Speaker 5: I was.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Of course, so people probably did know you going into
- 3:21Speaker 1: like going into the rush process. I mean they also
- 3:24Speaker 1: check your background, They look at absolutely everything, They know
- 3:28Speaker 1: exactly who you are. And then were you also nervous
- 3:31Speaker 1: that some sororities would want you also because of knowing
- 3:35Speaker 1: your sister's following.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Honestly, I was never worried about that. That's a great question,
- 3:43Speaker 5: but I don't think that like ever came across my mind.
- 3:47Speaker 5: But if anything, I thought that maybe would help. Like
- 3:51Speaker 5: I don't know, that sounds horrible, but also like there
- 3:55Speaker 5: was a my sister was in a sorority at a
- 3:58Speaker 5: different school, and when I was rushing and talking to
- 4:01Speaker 5: those girls, I was like, oh, like my sister was
- 4:03Speaker 5: actually in the sorority.
- 4:04Speaker 6: She loved it, and then they dropped.
- 4:06Speaker 1: To me, Wow, and that's like not even allowed, Like,
- 4:10Speaker 1: but I should have been able to have legacy going
- 4:15Speaker 1: into that sorority because your sister was in it.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't like love the conversations I was having anyways,
- 4:23Speaker 5: but I was surprised.
- 4:24Speaker 6: I thought that it would help.
- 4:25Speaker 2: But yeah, wow.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So then yeah, so then you were talking to your friends,
- 4:30Speaker 1: they told you that this one sorority was interested in
- 4:34Speaker 1: your following.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so then how did that how did you navigate
- 4:37Speaker 2: the rest of that experience?
- 4:40Speaker 5: Well, there was also so there was that. And then
- 4:43Speaker 5: also during my preference round, I had spoken to this
- 4:47Speaker 5: girl who I absolutely fell in love with, like I
- 4:51Speaker 5: was obsessed with her. I saw her as like she
- 4:54Speaker 5: could be like a true sister to me, Like I
- 4:57Speaker 5: really looked up to her, and she just a lot
- 5:01Speaker 5: of the girls that I spoke to at the house
- 5:03Speaker 5: that I ended up going just seemed a lot more
- 5:05Speaker 5: genuine and real to me. And like, reflecting back, I
- 5:09Speaker 5: was like, honestly, like, I don't I don't want to
- 5:12Speaker 5: go a house where I feel like I have to
- 5:13Speaker 5: put on a face for them, Like I want to
- 5:15Speaker 5: go where I feel comfortable and a lot of my
- 5:20Speaker 5: decision came into like I want to see this girl
- 5:22Speaker 5: on mid day because I'm obsessed with her. I'm obsessed
- 5:24Speaker 5: with these other girls that I spoke to. And also
- 5:27Speaker 5: obviously I don't want to go a house that would
- 5:29Speaker 5: say that, like that's that's disgusting, that's horrible.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I don't want.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Anything to do with that.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, did you meet a lot of girls that were
- 5:36Speaker 4: like in that sorority throughout your like college time.
- 5:42Speaker 5: I wasn't really friends with a lot of them, especially
- 5:47Speaker 5: after I chose the other house. A lot of those
- 5:51Speaker 5: girls were like really mean to me after, Like they
- 5:53Speaker 5: would like see me out like the older girls, and
- 5:55Speaker 5: they would like make faces or curse at me, Like literally, wow,
- 6:00Speaker 5: crazy stuff.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You didn't end up in that one though, I know,
- 6:03Speaker 2: And that's bizarre. Literally, I mean clearly they were just
- 6:07Speaker 2: salty because you picked the other house, But to also
- 6:10Speaker 2: act like that, it's like, grow up.
- 6:12Speaker 5: Yeah, thank god I made the right decision, made.
- 6:16Speaker 2: The right decision.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And also like they're very aware of how sorority rush works.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And that's the whole thing about frown, where you have
- 6:25Speaker 1: your top two houses and you make a decision, so
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's a fifty to fifty chance that she's not going
- 6:30Speaker 1: to go with you, and you just need to just
- 6:33Speaker 1: like it's a fifty to fifty chance that the rest
- 6:34Speaker 1: of the girls that you're picking are not going to
- 6:36Speaker 1: choose you.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So that's crazy.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Yeah, sorry, that happened.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's not the end of the.
- 6:42Speaker 6: World, like to die over it.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Were you in SDT all four years? Yes?
- 6:48Speaker 5: I was, and I loved it involved. Yeah, I knew
- 6:52Speaker 5: that I wanted to be involved like from the beginning
- 6:55Speaker 5: just because I don't know, I always loved like kind
- 6:59Speaker 5: of being a leader in those types of settings. So
- 7:01Speaker 5: I did. I was the rush chair twice my sophomore
- 7:04Speaker 5: year and then my senior year. And I also like
- 7:07Speaker 5: did the social media. Yeah, so I know, I know
- 7:10Speaker 5: all of the all of the inside scoop and being
- 7:13Speaker 5: a rush share.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Oh my god, what can you tell us?
- 7:17Speaker 1: What is a misconception about rush?
- 7:20Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 7:21Speaker 6: Oh?
- 7:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Was there anything that like shocked you when you were
- 7:27Speaker 4: rush shair?
- 7:29Speaker 5: Yes, like basically you know, like every single girl before
- 7:37Speaker 5: they come into the house, like you, like we had
- 7:39Speaker 5: like all the houses had lists of all the girls
- 7:42Speaker 5: like with a picture their hometown, who they're friends with.
- 7:47Speaker 2: They're literally doing a background check on you.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Yes, yes, and it felt wrong, but like it was
- 7:52Speaker 5: also fun.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Like like it was like, Okay, I'm getting all the
- 7:56Speaker 1: tea before they're even walking in.
- 8:00Speaker 5: There's a lot of like we we had to pair
- 8:03Speaker 5: up each girl individually with a girl in our house,
- 8:08Speaker 5: so we'd have to like figure out who would vibe
- 8:11Speaker 5: with who based on literally pictures, which is awful, but
- 8:15Speaker 5: that's kind of how it works. And obviously you're not
- 8:19Speaker 5: supposed to like pair up girls together. It's supposed to
- 8:23Speaker 5: be random, but like most of the houses do it
- 8:26Speaker 5: that way.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Did you also gauge your audience into sorority life once
- 8:31Speaker 2: you got to school? Kind of?
- 8:35Speaker 5: I feel like when I got into a sorority, I
- 8:39Speaker 5: like wasn't really posting that much because there's so many
- 8:43Speaker 5: rules and you have to be careful of like what
- 8:45Speaker 5: you post. And that's something that I didn't love about
- 8:49Speaker 5: being in a sorority at first, because like you couldn't
- 8:51Speaker 5: post certain things, you couldn't say certain things, and so
- 8:55Speaker 5: I kind of had to keep a lot of it
- 8:57Speaker 5: like private. But I don't no, I didn't really speak
- 9:02Speaker 5: on social media about like soarty life until honestly, I
- 9:06Speaker 5: graduated because I felt more like free and like.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I was like, and you were also on like the
- 9:13Speaker 1: EC committee, like you had like you were on EXAC,
- 9:15Speaker 1: you had roles in your sorority. So it's not like
- 9:18Speaker 1: you wanted. You probably did never want, wanted to say
- 9:20Speaker 1: the wrong thing. But now that you're graduated, you're like,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I'm free.
- 9:24Speaker 5: Yeah, And I didn't want people and other sorties to
- 9:27Speaker 5: like talk about about me or hate me for saying
- 9:29Speaker 5: these things. Yeah, but now I'm free and I'm like,
- 9:32Speaker 5: you know what, like it.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Was just a soorty, it was just a sorority. Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But did you leave with friends that you still have today?
- 9:41Speaker 5: Yes, of course, I have so many friends in my sorority.
- 9:45Speaker 6: I love.
- 9:46Speaker 5: I still keep in contact with all the older girls,
- 9:48Speaker 5: all the younger girls, And that is my favorite thing
- 9:51Speaker 5: about being an assorty, like all the people that you meet,
- 9:54Speaker 5: and I love being able to have older friends and
- 9:57Speaker 5: younger friends. And also like with Swarty fans, you get
- 10:03Speaker 5: super close with them. And also half of my so
- 10:05Speaker 5: my friend group now literally my friend group is the
- 10:08Speaker 5: same from a freshman year of.
- 10:10Speaker 6: College to now.
- 10:11Speaker 5: It's ten of us, five of us went at one
- 10:14Speaker 5: house and the other five one another house, and we're
- 10:17Speaker 5: still all like best friends.
- 10:19Speaker 4: That's exactly how mine was.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Really Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And everybody warns you like your friends will change,
- 10:27Speaker 5: which is usually true, but surprisingly we all stay together.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Oh that's great.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Well, Chloe, thank you so much for coming on and
- 10:34Speaker 1: telling your story on Dirty Rush.
- 10:51Speaker 6: Hey Chloe, Hi, how are you?
- 10:54Speaker 2: How are you?
- 10:55Speaker 6: I'm good, I'm good. I'm so excited to be here.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Thank you for thinking of me.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So tell us where'd you go to school?
- 11:02Speaker 1: What?
- 11:02Speaker 2: So already did you end up in? Okay?
- 11:04Speaker 6: So Syracuse A five very classic Jewish girl from New
- 11:10Speaker 6: York went to Syracuse the Jewish Sorority.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I love it. I love it. And you have a podcast, right,
- 11:20Speaker 2: I do.
- 11:20Speaker 6: It's called We Met at Summer Camp. I co hosted
- 11:23Speaker 6: actually with my best friend who I met at sleep
- 11:26Speaker 6: Boy camp and also she went to Syracuse, so we
- 11:31Speaker 6: were like camp and college.
- 11:32Speaker 5: So we have a lot to talk about. And yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 5: we're hoping to start our.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Second season at the end of the month, so I'm
- 11:38Speaker 6: really excited.
- 11:39Speaker 1: That's amazing And that's so cute that you get to
- 11:41Speaker 1: do with your best friend.
- 11:42Speaker 2: That's probably so fun.
- 11:44Speaker 6: It's so much fun.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Did you graduate already?
- 11:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm twenty four, So I graduated from Syracuse in
- 11:50Speaker 6: twenty three.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Okay wait same yeah, yeah, same. We're the same age, right.
- 11:56Speaker 6: I've stalked to you a little bit, we have.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Talk.
- 12:01Speaker 6: We're the same age.
- 12:03Speaker 4: That's so fun. And then on TikTok, you do like
- 12:06Speaker 4: some recruitment guides and yess right.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Yes, So I've spoken a lot at different universities, like
- 12:16Speaker 6: different hellales and student centers. So actually eighty five, like
- 12:21Speaker 6: my sorority the national Instagram, I guess had reached out
- 12:25Speaker 6: about doing a recruitment guide, so I kind of workshops
- 12:29Speaker 6: my recruitment guide. And I also have gained a lot
- 12:33Speaker 6: of traction on TikTok and Instagram for doing like rush
- 12:36Speaker 6: bag guides and you know what to wear for each
- 12:39Speaker 6: round guides. And I really liked doing it because I
- 12:43Speaker 6: think like when I rushed, I wouldn't have considered myself
- 12:47Speaker 6: like one of the cooler girls in the grade. Like
- 12:51Speaker 6: I was a theater kid. I was a theater major
- 12:53Speaker 6: in my freshman year. I did switch after freshman year,
- 12:57Speaker 6: but like I came in there being like yeah, like
- 13:00Speaker 6: studying drama, and I love broad Like I wasn't like
- 13:05Speaker 6: a cool girl by any means. And I also like
- 13:09Speaker 6: I was in the sorority, but I wasn't the most
- 13:12Speaker 6: hyper involved person. I wasn't, you know, so obsessed with it.
- 13:17Speaker 6: It wasn't my identity that said. I was always incredibly
- 13:22Speaker 6: observant and I loved my friends, and I was always thinking, like,
- 13:27Speaker 6: how can I help girls make joining a sorority the
- 13:30Speaker 6: most positive experience possible? And I've noticed that like a
- 13:34Speaker 6: lot of my following is like, you know, girls in
- 13:37Speaker 6: their late teens and early twenties who like this content.
- 13:42Speaker 6: And if I had had TikTok, because I rushed January
- 13:47Speaker 6: of twenty twenty when TikTok was like kind of first
- 13:49Speaker 6: becoming popular, and I was like, if I had had
- 13:54Speaker 6: like older girls doing recruitment guides, like I would have slayed.
- 13:58Speaker 6: I wouldn't have been nervous, I wouldn't worn Bretts in
- 14:02Speaker 6: my hair.
- 14:03Speaker 2: No, you did it.
- 14:06Speaker 6: So I was like, you know what, I would have
- 14:07Speaker 6: loved to have this, But yeah, I do a lot
- 14:10Speaker 6: of recruitment guides. It's really fun.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Wait, that's amazing.
- 14:13Speaker 1: So like it's like the dos and don'ts, like what
- 14:15Speaker 1: to wear and during recruitment, what to not wear, what
- 14:18Speaker 1: to expect during rush, like exactly, Yeah.
- 14:21Speaker 6: That's amazing to kind of do some like sketch parodies
- 14:24Speaker 6: of like the worst girls you'll meet during rush or
- 14:29Speaker 6: oh my gosh.
- 14:32Speaker 1: You're still bringing that theater kid out with these.
- 14:36Speaker 6: Absolutely, I initially like went viral from doing like pov
- 14:41Speaker 6: comedy content. I definitely bring out the theater kid from
- 14:44Speaker 6: time to time.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Oh I love that. That's amazing. But then, so, how
- 14:49Speaker 1: was your rush experience? Like, yes, you ended up in
- 14:53Speaker 1: Alpha FE and it was great, But how was that
- 14:57Speaker 1: experience for you? Because I know you're saying you went
- 14:59Speaker 1: into rush brush with barettes in your.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Hair, Like did you ever feel judged or was the
- 15:04Speaker 2: experience actually really positive for you?
- 15:07Speaker 6: So it was a fine not Alpha FE and they're.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Oh sorry, it's okay, I'm sorry, it's.
- 15:14Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, it's totally fine. Well, they're just they're
- 15:16Speaker 6: two different houses. Yeah. I definitely, like again, lacked a
- 15:24Speaker 6: certain level of confidence when I was a freshman in college.
- 15:26Speaker 6: I was definitely still a little bit like awkward and
- 15:30Speaker 6: hadn't come into myself yet, which you don't see on
- 15:34Speaker 6: social media at all. Girls who are freshmen like not
- 15:38Speaker 6: fully being like confident in knowing who they are. Yet
- 15:41Speaker 6: like I really didn't I knew going in that I
- 15:47Speaker 6: think I wanted to be in more of a Jewish
- 15:50Speaker 6: yeah already, I mean obviously, like they don't discriminate against
- 15:54Speaker 6: people who aren't Jewish, but typically a fine stt are
- 15:57Speaker 6: like founded on Jewish value and most of those houses
- 16:02Speaker 6: end up being primarily Jewish. I would say, my mom
- 16:07Speaker 6: was in a FI at Oneonta, so I knew I
- 16:10Speaker 6: was like a legacy for that house, and it was
- 16:13Speaker 6: just sort of a matter of like where I felt
- 16:15Speaker 6: more at home. When I did rush. It was really scary.
- 16:20Speaker 6: I didn't know a single person going in because my
- 16:23Speaker 6: freshman year I was a theater major, which was the
- 16:26Speaker 6: theater building was like a mile off campus. It was
- 16:28Speaker 6: very isolating. It was literally like eight to five we
- 16:32Speaker 6: were in the theater building. I was never on main campus,
- 16:34Speaker 6: and these girls would ask me questions and I literally
- 16:36Speaker 6: would not know the answers to them, and honestly that
- 16:40Speaker 6: sparked me like wanting to change my major. I was
- 16:43Speaker 6: like I am getting up at six am to like
- 16:45Speaker 6: roll on the floor and like breathe and pretend to
- 16:49Speaker 6: like become an elephant, like I don't even know. It
- 16:54Speaker 6: was just the most bizarre, like if you're in a
- 16:56Speaker 6: BFA acting rome, it's like a whole other thing. And
- 16:58Speaker 6: I was like, maybe I want to be on main campus,
- 17:01Speaker 6: Like maybe I want to understand what people are talking about,
- 17:04Speaker 6: Like if you went to Syracuse you would know this.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Like I didn't know what Varsity Pizza was my freshman year,
- 17:10Speaker 6: which is like it's like the like pizza spot on
- 17:14Speaker 6: Marshall Street, which is like that main strip. They were like,
- 17:17Speaker 6: how do you not know what that is? And I
- 17:18Speaker 6: was like, I only know the theater building, like you know.
- 17:22Speaker 6: So I definitely had a sense of uncomfortability because I
- 17:28Speaker 6: literally didn't know anything. I felt like all of these
- 17:32Speaker 6: girls knew each other or were going in with friends,
- 17:36Speaker 6: and I didn't. I went in with no one. I
- 17:39Speaker 6: went in like completely alone, and whether they really were
- 17:45Speaker 6: confident or not, everyone seemed so much more confident than
- 17:49Speaker 6: I did, especially I feel like because they knew people already,
- 17:54Speaker 6: Like I, Yeah, I wound up choosing a five just
- 17:59Speaker 6: because I I just vibed with the girls a lot
- 18:03Speaker 6: more than I did in any of the other houses. Also,
- 18:07Speaker 6: I you know, the positive vibe of my mom having
- 18:09Speaker 6: been in the house. I think it was good. And
- 18:12Speaker 6: even though I was very happy with the bid I received,
- 18:15Speaker 6: I still felt really lost on mid day because I
- 18:17Speaker 6: didn't know anyone, and all of these girls knew each other.
- 18:21Speaker 6: It was literally like they had accepted one like mega
- 18:25Speaker 6: friend group of like thirty girls where it was kind
- 18:28Speaker 6: of like, you know, two or three friend groups combined
- 18:30Speaker 6: into a bigger friend group, and then there were a
- 18:33Speaker 6: couple like random stragglers, and we were all like, hey,
- 18:39Speaker 6: and my friend group now is comprised of those random
- 18:42Speaker 6: stragglers and we're still tight.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I love that.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Yeah, any tips for girls going into like recruitment this semester,
- 18:53Speaker 4: I mean, like advice you would give them.
- 18:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I always say one of my main things, and
- 18:59Speaker 6: this has nothing to do with the actual physical recruitment,
- 19:02Speaker 6: but this is so important to me. Think about what's
- 19:05Speaker 6: going in your bag. You are going to be out
- 19:07Speaker 6: and on your feet all day. You're not gonna have
- 19:09Speaker 6: time to go back to your dorm and like change
- 19:11Speaker 6: or eat or anything.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Like.
- 19:15Speaker 6: First of all, it's flu season. Bring some purel. You're
- 19:19Speaker 6: gonna be like shaking hands with all these people who
- 19:22Speaker 6: are like in a stuffy house meeting thousands of girls, Like,
- 19:27Speaker 6: bring some purel, bring some wet wipes. That's I narrowly
- 19:32Speaker 6: avoided the flu during rush, and that was huge. I
- 19:36Speaker 6: would say, yeah. Also bring like makeup, touch ups, perfume, deodorate,
- 19:41Speaker 6: breath mints, change of socks, change of clothes if you
- 19:46Speaker 6: need it. Also bring like snacks and water just in
- 19:50Speaker 6: case you, you know, get fatigued. There are so many things.
- 19:54Speaker 6: That's a more like surface tip. Obviously, I would say
- 19:59Speaker 6: just be yourself, because if you're trying to be cool,
- 20:04Speaker 6: maybe you'll end up in an objectively like you know,
- 20:07Speaker 6: more upper to your house, but you ultimately won't be happy. Yeah,
- 20:11Speaker 6: and you should value your happiness over like the ranking.
- 20:17Speaker 6: I guess because like I think objectively when I had rushed,
- 20:23Speaker 6: and I again, I don't really know how it is
- 20:25Speaker 6: like now or what had happened, but I think when
- 20:28Speaker 6: I rushed, like SDT was cooler than a five quote
- 20:34Speaker 6: unquote or mixed with better frats. But I didn't really
- 20:39Speaker 6: care so much about that. I was like, I think
- 20:41Speaker 6: I would be kind of uncomfortable.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, if you were in that.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's honestly so good that you know yourself
- 20:47Speaker 1: that well. And then after going through that rush process
- 20:51Speaker 1: and finding you know your home, is that when you
- 20:54Speaker 1: started your tiktoks? Like when did your following come about?
- 20:58Speaker 6: I did not start my TikTok until after college. I
- 21:01Speaker 6: was really I had like randomly one viral video during COVID,
- 21:06Speaker 6: but I think everyone randomly had one viral video during COVID.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 6: I had one video during COVID that got like three
- 21:13Speaker 6: million views, and since it was like that COVID era,
- 21:18Speaker 6: that one video gave me like, you know, fifteen thousand followers,
- 21:22Speaker 6: which is insane because that would never happen now. And
- 21:27Speaker 6: then I didn't post. I was just like I was embarrassed,
- 21:30Speaker 6: like you know, and that was like I also wanted
- 21:32Speaker 6: the older girls and my stroorty to like think I
- 21:35Speaker 6: was cool, yeah, and so I didn't. I didn't post
- 21:40Speaker 6: very much. And then it was actually like a week
- 21:44Speaker 6: or two before I graduated. I was freaking out. I
- 21:47Speaker 6: didn't have a job lined up, I had no idea
- 21:51Speaker 6: what I was going to do, and I was like
- 21:54Speaker 6: thinking of all the things that I was good at,
- 21:57Speaker 6: and I just started posting. I posted this one video
- 22:00Speaker 6: and it got like one hundred two hundred thousand views,
- 22:02Speaker 6: and I was like, Okay, I feel like I can
- 22:04Speaker 6: I can get behind this, like I can start doing it.
- 22:07Speaker 6: And I started really fully posting like five six months
- 22:14Speaker 6: after I graduated, and I would go full throttle and
- 22:18Speaker 6: post like five times a day and really try to
- 22:22Speaker 6: get and at that time I did end up having
- 22:24Speaker 6: a different job and now I do it full time,
- 22:25Speaker 6: but it it took. It definitely took a bit to
- 22:29Speaker 6: like grow the following and now I've been doing it
- 22:31Speaker 6: full time for about a year, which is really amazing.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Kllie, I'm glad you know, sorority life and all
- 22:39Speaker 1: of the experiences helped you find your bit and you know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: helped you really express yourself and obviously your podcast.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 22:48Speaker 1: But thank you so much for coming on Dirty Rush today.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Hi, Audrey, are y'all good? How are you welcome to
- 23:10Speaker 2: Dirty Rush? Good?
- 23:12Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 23:13Speaker 4: So you went to the University of Texas, right, yes.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and I graduated in twenty twenty.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Four and what.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I was in Alpha Kai okay awesome. Yeah, how was
- 23:27Speaker 4: your like whole experience being in a sorority.
- 23:30Speaker 3: I loved being in a Sowartie.
- 23:32Speaker 6: I was.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It made my college experience, especially going in from out
- 23:37Speaker 3: of state. I'm from California and then I went to
- 23:39Speaker 3: University of Texas and so that was a big thing
- 23:43Speaker 3: going through Rush, also being out of state, but also
- 23:45Speaker 3: finding the friends and home away from home kind of
- 23:49Speaker 3: thing for sure.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Definitely switched up going from California to Texas.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:54Speaker 3: I actually was born in Texas then did the high
- 23:57Speaker 3: school in California, so I wasn't completely blind to it all.
- 24:02Speaker 2: But still say you say y'all.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I was like, I feel like it's in California. Don't
- 24:07Speaker 1: say y'all unless you inherited that from going to ut Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 3: My parents are always they've been from the South, and
- 24:15Speaker 3: I also picked it. I would have picked it up
- 24:17Speaker 3: from yout Honestly, I think y'all is a great word.
- 24:20Speaker 2: It's fun, it's fun, it's cute, charming.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But I mean, clearly you had a really great experience
- 24:26Speaker 1: because now you have a recruiting coach business called the
- 24:29Speaker 1: Sorority Sister.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yes, so tell us about that.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so I started it. I've been on social media
- 24:37Speaker 3: for a while. I started posting YouTube videos in high
- 24:40Speaker 3: school and it's now my full time job. And so
- 24:43Speaker 3: through that content, I had been posting like social like
- 24:47Speaker 3: Soorty content of living in the house and already kind
- 24:51Speaker 3: of giving Rush advice through that.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So you kind of documented your whole experience of doing
- 24:56Speaker 1: it when you were a freshman.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yes, so, like I have a full to vlog of
- 25:00Speaker 3: me going through Rush crying on camera, like all the
- 25:03Speaker 3: details my freshman year, which is also just so fun
- 25:07Speaker 3: for me to look back on.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Too, so fun to look back on stuff like that.
- 25:11Speaker 1: So then what made you really want to start this
- 25:13Speaker 1: recruiting coaching business?
- 25:15Speaker 3: So I wanted to have all of the advice and
- 25:18Speaker 3: everything in one so something different about the Soorty Sisters.
- 25:22Speaker 3: We offer an online course, so it's videos for me
- 25:26Speaker 3: talking through everything, and it's way more accessible than one
- 25:30Speaker 3: on one coaching can be from a price point standpoint.
- 25:34Speaker 3: And so I wanted to make all of the information
- 25:38Speaker 3: more accessible and more like put together in one place
- 25:41Speaker 3: versus scrolling through all my videos and it kind of
- 25:44Speaker 3: being all over the place. And I have a partner, Kendall.
- 25:47Speaker 3: She was in a sortia ole miss and so she
- 25:51Speaker 3: also came to me with this idea and we were
- 25:53Speaker 3: the perfect pair, And I started it in twenty twenty three,
- 25:57Speaker 3: right before my senior year of college, so we made
- 26:01Speaker 3: the course at that point. Also, my younger sister was
- 26:04Speaker 3: going through Rush, and so it was on the top
- 26:06Speaker 3: of my head of like being that older sister figure
- 26:10Speaker 3: from my sister, and also like, how can I help
- 26:12Speaker 3: girls who don't have that older sister, who don't have
- 26:15Speaker 3: the experience knowing about what rush is.
- 26:19Speaker 2: That's awesome, that's so cool.
- 26:22Speaker 4: How many girls do you have, Like, is it like
- 26:24Speaker 4: usually like per rush that you work with.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yeah, So we started in twenty twenty three and then
- 26:32Speaker 3: that was when we were kind of only doing We
- 26:34Speaker 3: have two different courses. We have a pre Rush Prep
- 26:37Speaker 3: Club course, which talks about all the before things, so
- 26:41Speaker 3: like your resume registration, all the things that you're kind
- 26:44Speaker 3: of doing in the summer and how to prep for that.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And then the Rush week course where it talks about
- 26:50Speaker 3: what actually happens in those houses, what you should talk about,
- 26:54Speaker 3: how to prepare yourself for, like how to make this
- 26:56Speaker 3: decision of what sorority to go to. And then it
- 27:01Speaker 3: last last year in twenty twenty five, we started doing
- 27:06Speaker 3: one on one clients. So we've kind of grown and
- 27:09Speaker 3: still our main focus is the course clients, and we've
- 27:12Speaker 3: grown throughout the years and each year new girls go
- 27:17Speaker 3: through Rush, which is so exciting, Like I love now
- 27:20Speaker 3: the girls that are going to Rush in fall twenty
- 27:23Speaker 3: twenty six are starting to get into colleges and already
- 27:25Speaker 3: starting to reach out and thinking about Rush, which I
- 27:28Speaker 3: love because I think starting earlier just helps you feel
- 27:31Speaker 3: more confident and prepared going into Rush in fall.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 27:36Speaker 1: What do you think the biggest takeaway of your courses?
- 27:40Speaker 3: I think we really focus on what you want and
- 27:44Speaker 3: feeling confident in yourself. So going in to Rush with
- 27:50Speaker 3: the goal of finding your forever friends because that's what
- 27:53Speaker 3: I found in a sorority, and I think that it's
- 27:55Speaker 3: more than just going the top house or going what
- 27:59Speaker 3: you're maybe want you wants you to go. It's more
- 28:02Speaker 3: about where are you going to find your best friends
- 28:04Speaker 3: and the people that like you want to spend college with.
- 28:07Speaker 3: And so we really think about in the course, like
- 28:11Speaker 3: what are you looking for in a friend? What kind
- 28:13Speaker 3: of friend are you? What do you want out of
- 28:15Speaker 3: this sorty experience? And then Taylor that to how do
- 28:18Speaker 3: you show these girls during Rush what your qualities are
- 28:22Speaker 3: and what you want to find that good match.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Oh, I love that. So it's more so of like
- 28:28Speaker 2: about what's on the inside. That's what's not what's on
- 28:31Speaker 2: the outside.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean we talk about the outfits and
- 28:35Speaker 3: what to say because that's what RUSH is. And it's
- 28:38Speaker 3: almost kind of like I think of it too as
- 28:40Speaker 3: an interview process if you want to be prepared going
- 28:43Speaker 3: into an interview, and RUSH can be so overwhelming that
- 28:47Speaker 3: just having more knowledge and information about it and kind
- 28:50Speaker 3: of prepping what you want to say about yourself and
- 28:55Speaker 3: talk to just really helps going in confidently and will
- 28:59Speaker 3: help you more yourself in this like crazy situation that
- 29:03Speaker 3: RUSH is.
- 29:03Speaker 4: You know, that's so fun. And so your friend Kendall,
- 29:07Speaker 4: right that you do? And how did you guys meet?
- 29:10Speaker 3: So I actually met her, she was my I met
- 29:13Speaker 3: her through my internship that I had. She was my
- 29:16Speaker 3: internship like kind of mentor and met her through that.
- 29:21Speaker 3: And she's the CMO of a company, so she has
- 29:23Speaker 3: all the marketing brains and so we're the perfect pair.
- 29:27Speaker 3: And I think that she also brings another perspective of
- 29:33Speaker 3: kind of what Russia used to be and all of
- 29:35Speaker 3: the traditional southern things that you look for. She was
- 29:38Speaker 3: recruitment counselor at her Soarty years ago, and so she
- 29:43Speaker 3: kind of knows the ins and outs of behind the
- 29:46Speaker 3: scenes when I bring in the newer perspective of what
- 29:49Speaker 3: girls are looking for on social media and like in
- 29:52Speaker 3: these new times.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Did you go through rush coaching yourself?
- 29:57Speaker 3: No? I didn't, so I I went in. I mean,
- 30:00Speaker 3: my mom was an Ausrity. I knew I wanted to
- 30:02Speaker 3: be an Ausrity. I had known, like my cousin and
- 30:06Speaker 3: one of my other older friends had gone through rush,
- 30:09Speaker 3: but very I knew very minimal information. And I always
- 30:14Speaker 3: say I rushed in twenty twenty, so it was virtually
- 30:18Speaker 3: and I always say I'm so glad that it was
- 30:20Speaker 3: virtual because I would have not been prepared to rush
- 30:23Speaker 3: in person at a school like Texas, but I didn't.
- 30:27Speaker 3: I know a lot of people who have rush coaching,
- 30:29Speaker 3: and it's very common, especially at the kind of school
- 30:32Speaker 3: that I go to, But now I didn't have a
- 30:35Speaker 3: rush coach myself.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Where do you hope to take your company in the future.
- 30:40Speaker 3: I really want to this year bring the course more
- 30:44Speaker 3: in person and talking to girls in person, because right
- 30:47Speaker 3: now it's very virtual in me just filming videos and
- 30:50Speaker 3: them watching, but I love when I get to interact
- 30:54Speaker 3: with the girls going through rush. I got to last
- 30:57Speaker 3: year ago to University of Georgia and University of Flo
- 31:01Speaker 3: during their rush, and that is really my favorite part,
- 31:04Speaker 3: is connecting in person and so really bringing the course
- 31:08Speaker 3: to life in person where your mom can come with you,
- 31:11Speaker 3: mother daughters and you can kind of network and also
- 31:14Speaker 3: just ask questions and be more in an in person
- 31:17Speaker 3: environment and learning from that.
- 31:18Speaker 4: So then you're there like on campus while they're going
- 31:21Speaker 4: through recruitment.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Yeah, but also I would like to I mean, really
- 31:25Speaker 3: the prep works before rush happens, but I did go
- 31:30Speaker 3: to a couple of schools last year and just kind
- 31:34Speaker 3: of talked to girls as they went through rush.
- 31:36Speaker 2: They needed like that extra support kind of.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Yeah, at that point, it's just kind of encouragement, like
- 31:41Speaker 3: the sortie sister. We really focus on prepping you before
- 31:45Speaker 3: you show up on that day. But it's fun to
- 31:49Speaker 3: be that like face of encouragement kind.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Of thing, definitely, and to be like a part of
- 31:54Speaker 4: that too.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. It's so fun, especially at the bigger schools,
- 31:58Speaker 3: just seeing all the girls going into the houses again,
- 32:02Speaker 3: like I rush virtually and then during school when you
- 32:06Speaker 3: are a swarty girl, you're locked in the house like
- 32:08Speaker 3: you don't get to see the p and ms outside
- 32:10Speaker 3: until they come and talk to you. So it's fun
- 32:13Speaker 3: fully being like on the outside of it and seeing
- 32:15Speaker 3: all everyone.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Well, Audrey, thank you so much and best of luck
- 32:21Speaker 1: with your company, the sorority sister and I hope in
- 32:26Speaker 1: person is in your near future.
- 32:28Speaker 2: But thank you for coming on Dirty Rush.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Thanks guys, thank you.
