- 0:04What have you been putting on the back burner
- 0:06lately that should be on the front burner, if
- 0:09not already plated and being served to your audience?
- 0:13Hello, and welcome to another episode of Abby
- 0:15the Podcast Lady, where we talk about all things
- 0:18podcasting, especially when it comes to you getting
- 0:20started making your show. So today I want to
- 0:23talk about procrastination, because I think that's
- 0:26a huge thing that stops people from actually
- 0:29making their podcast. They have this idea, they
- 0:32know what they want to do, they maybe have even
- 0:34had this podcast concept in their head for years
- 0:37at this point. Like they know they have a story
- 0:39worth sharing. They know what they have to share
- 0:42is valuable to an audience that they're already
- 0:44serving. And this is just going to help them
- 0:46go deeper and serve more customers. But it just
- 0:49keeps getting pushed off. And you just keep kicking
- 0:51that can down the road further and further and
- 0:54further until suddenly years have gone by. And
- 0:57you're like, oh, man, you know, I really wanted
- 0:58to start that show. And now I feel like it's
- 1:00not even worth starting it because everyone else
- 1:02already has a show and theirs is already established.
- 1:04So why would I get in on that game now when I'm
- 1:08technically behind on this? We're going to break
- 1:10this down piece by piece today because I am a
- 1:13firm believer that there's no such thing as being
- 1:16behind when it comes to podcasting. I will say
- 1:19the people who are having a lot of success with
- 1:22their shows right now, the clients that I'm working
- 1:24with right now that are seeing some good numbers
- 1:26and good traction on things, they've been podcasting
- 1:30for a long time. because they took action on
- 1:33their idea and just kept with it. So let's back
- 1:36this up here. You have an idea for a show. You
- 1:38have a brand. You have a business. You have stories
- 1:41worth sharing and an audience that's yearning
- 1:44to hear it. You know podcasting is the thing
- 1:46to do. What is stopping you from doing it? Probably,
- 1:48well, one, lack of knowledge on how to do it.
- 1:51Two, fear of being perceived. That can be a big
- 1:54one for people. And three, just time. Time is
- 1:57a huge thing that stops people from making their
- 2:00shows. So how do we solve these problems? Well,
- 2:03one, if it's that fear of being seen by an audience,
- 2:07we got to get over that. We have to get over
- 2:09that. You need to be bold and brave and put yourself
- 2:12out there. Trust me, people are not paying as
- 2:15close of attention as you think. Like think about
- 2:17how you interact on the internet yourself. I
- 2:20know I love scrolling. Like I am not afraid to
- 2:23admit I live on 123 TikTok Street and I love
- 2:26scrolling on that dang app. But here's the thing.
- 2:30Most of the time you're scrolling, you watch
- 2:31a video, you scroll. You scroll. You maybe heart
- 2:33it. You maybe save it. You maybe send it to a
- 2:35friend if you think it's funny or worth sharing.
- 2:37But when do you see that person again? Like it's
- 2:39kind of gone. It's done. Like they might pop
- 2:42up in your algorithm again if they're an avid
- 2:44creator. But in all reality, it's on to the next
- 2:46thing. And people are not nitpicking every little
- 2:50thing that you are posting on the Internet. So
- 2:52it is kind of a volume game in that regard. Podcasting,
- 2:55it's kind of a different story because you're
- 2:57going so deep with your audience where you're
- 2:59like actually establishing a conversation. conversation
- 3:02and a connection with them. Yes, your podcast
- 3:04should get turned into like social media clips
- 3:06to share to aid in that scroll. So people find
- 3:09you and want to go deeper with you. But in all
- 3:11reality, the way you're consuming content online,
- 3:14it's probably like a flash in the pan. And that's
- 3:17what your audience is going to see from you as
- 3:18well. So that fear of being perceived and every
- 3:21little thing needs to be perfect. No, it doesn't.
- 3:23You just need to start creating and start getting
- 3:26your name and your story and your face out there
- 3:29because it takes a long time. people to build
- 3:31that trust and keep seeing you and go, Oh, yeah,
- 3:33wait a minute, I recognize that face. So that
- 3:35fear of being perceived, do not let that stop
- 3:37you from moving your podcast from the back burner
- 3:41to the front burner of your life stove, because
- 3:44it takes some time to establish and you just
- 3:46got to keep doing it and flexing that muscle.
- 3:48And the more you do it, the more comfortable
- 3:50you are going to be. So just start going just
- 3:53start creating. The next thing that stops people
- 3:55is just not knowing how to make a podcast. A
- 3:59lot of people actually all the people that I
- 4:01work with personally on my client roster. They
- 4:03are the people who are experts in their field.
- 4:05They know what they're talking about. They know
- 4:07the stories they want to share, but they do not
- 4:08know the technical side of podcasting. And that
- 4:11is okay because you don't have to know the technical
- 4:13side of podcasting. I like to compare it to like
- 4:16plumbing on a house. I don't know a thing about
- 4:19plumbing. I know there's pipes. I know there's
- 4:21water and I know there's ways to turn it on and
- 4:23shut it off. Beyond that, I don't know a dang
- 4:25thing. I call in an expert when there's a plumbing
- 4:28issue at my house to come take care of it for
- 4:30me because I don't want to learn how to deal
- 4:32with plumbing in my house. There's someone out
- 4:35there that can handle that for me. And the same
- 4:37is true for podcasting. If you know what you
- 4:40want to share, how you want to connect with your
- 4:41audience, what you want to do with your show,
- 4:43there's people like me out there who can help
- 4:46you with that. There are so many podcast producers
- 4:48in this world, and we are all so willing to share
- 4:51our expertise and what we know with you to help
- 4:54you make the show. And you can be as involved
- 4:56or as uninvolved as you want to be. For me, My
- 4:58clients all have different levels of involvement.
- 5:00Some of them like to do their own social media.
- 5:02Some of them like to write their own show notes.
- 5:04Some of them like to do their own blogs. And
- 5:06then there's others where they're like, I want
- 5:08to sit down and record it. And I don't want everyone
- 5:10to touch it again. You just handle everything.
- 5:12Like even put it on social media for me because
- 5:14I don't want to do that either. I can handle
- 5:16literally everything that you want done for your
- 5:19podcast. Minus the like sharing your own stories.
- 5:21Like obviously you get to do that part of like,
- 5:24it's your podcast. It's your face. It's your
- 5:25voice. It's your concepts. But I can. handle
- 5:28all the other hard parts for you so you don't
- 5:30have to. If you want to learn them, I'd be more
- 5:32than happy to teach you and guide you through
- 5:34that. And that is actually what the bet on your
- 5:36podcast course is all about. I have dumped my
- 5:39knowledge of podcasting into an online course.
- 5:42So if you're like, I don't want to hire someone,
- 5:44I do want to learn how to do this. I have an
- 5:46online program for you teaching you exactly how
- 5:48to make your podcast start to finish. That's
- 5:51available in the show notes below. Check it out
- 5:52if you're interested. But you can be as involved
- 5:55or as uninvolved as you want to be. Do not let
- 5:57the I don't know how to make a podcast stop you
- 5:59from actually following. through and moving it
- 6:02to the front burner and plating it and serving
- 6:04it to your audience. Because that is just a really
- 6:07boring and dumb excuse because there are so many
- 6:10resources online for you to learn how to do this
- 6:13or find the right person to help you do this.
- 6:15So I don't want to hear that excuse anymore.
- 6:17I don't know how to make a podcast. That's not
- 6:19an excuse. That is just wimp talk. Like you can
- 6:22do this if you set your mind to it or find the
- 6:25right person that can help you set your mind
- 6:27to it. So not an excuse anymore. Throw it out
- 6:29the window. It doesn't count. And then another
- 6:31thing stopping people from moving their podcast
- 6:33from the back burner of life to the front burner
- 6:35of life is the time commitment. And this one,
- 6:38I feel like goes hand in hand with the last argument
- 6:41I make. Everyone is short on time, especially
- 6:43if you're an entrepreneur, if you're a thought
- 6:45leader, if you're a visionary of any kind, if
- 6:47you're a leader in your family, in your community,
- 6:50time is precious. Like everyone is so strapped
- 6:53for time. When you ask someone how they're doing
- 6:55lately, the answer you're going to get is busy.
- 6:57Like people are busy. They have lives. They have
- 6:59full lives. No one is sitting around waiting
- 7:02for life to happen to them if they are in the
- 7:04podcast industry or want to be a podcaster. Like
- 7:07they are busy people. And there's so many people
- 7:09that I talk to that are like, oh, yeah, you know,
- 7:11meaning to start my show. I'm just so short on
- 7:13time and I just don't have the bandwidth to do
- 7:16it right now. And I think that's another excuse.
- 7:18Like you can spend time on something or you can
- 7:21spend money on something. You got to pick one
- 7:23of the two because chances are good you don't
- 7:24have the excess of both. And there are people
- 7:27like me who do. have the time to make your podcast
- 7:30for you if you have the time to sit down and
- 7:31record it we have the time to sit down and produce
- 7:34it for you so you don't have to worry about doubling
- 7:36up your time or tripling up your time with the
- 7:39technical side of things that you don't care
- 7:41about or want to be an expert in there's people
- 7:43out there willing to help you with that and not
- 7:45just me like yes obviously I would love it if
- 7:48more people hired me to do this because this
- 7:49is like my life's passion and what I love to
- 7:52do but in all reality there's so many people
- 7:54out there who are willing to help you with this
- 7:56who are experts at doing this, like time is not
- 7:59an excuse anymore. And I know for my own personal
- 8:02life, I have come to the stage where it's like,
- 8:05yeah, I do not have the time and energy to do
- 8:08and learn everything. So I'm going to go find
- 8:10an expert that'll do it. I just did a full podcast
- 8:12episode on this a few weeks ago of like when
- 8:15to ask for help with your show. And it is when
- 8:17you do not have the time to do it and you do
- 8:19not have the willingness to learn how to do it.
- 8:22And not even the willingness. It's just like,
- 8:24there's a lot of things I would love to dilly
- 8:26dally around. with and learn how to do. Like
- 8:28I have been trying to learn how to crochet for
- 8:31years, like almost a decade at this point, but
- 8:33I do not have the time to dilly dally around
- 8:35and learn how to crochet. That is just not on
- 8:38the radar for me right now. So if that's your
- 8:41crochet or my crocheting is your podcasting,
- 8:43like find someone else to do it for you. You
- 8:46can spend time on something or you can spend
- 8:47money on something. You got to sort out what
- 8:50that means for you, obviously. But I literally
- 8:52have talked to like three people just in the
- 8:54past week. They're like, oh yeah. know keep nudging
- 8:56me keep nudging me I want to start a podcast
- 8:58I just don't have the time right now like that's
- 9:00why I'm nudging you it's because I do have the
- 9:02time and I can help you with this right here
- 9:04and right now so there's no excuse for you to
- 9:06keep putting it on the back burner when I am
- 9:08right here telling you I can be that resource
- 9:10for you and suddenly what you think is going
- 9:12to take you four hours a month to make your podcast
- 9:15is probably only going to take you like 45 minutes
- 9:18because you just got to record it and then i'll
- 9:19take care of it for you so another excuse that
- 9:22i don't want to hear anymore is i don't have
- 9:23the time because it's just not true there's other
- 9:26people you can pay to have the time for you and
- 9:28honestly it's probably a lot more affordable
- 9:30than you think it is so just some things to chew
- 9:33on and think about i just keep hearing the phrase
- 9:35lately like oh yeah that's on that's on the back
- 9:37burner right now i gotta put it on the back burner
- 9:39if it's on the back burner it's gonna sit there
- 9:41and it's not gonna cook So it's time to start
- 9:44stirring the pot, move it to the front burner,
- 9:45finish the meal and start plating it and serving
- 9:48it to your audience because they're hungry for
- 9:50it. And we are coming up on Q4. of 2026 already.
- 9:55I know we're like barely into Q3, but we are
- 9:58coming up on Q4 and that is the biggest spending
- 10:01of the year. This is when the money moves around.
- 10:04And do you want that money moving into your pocket
- 10:06because you are connecting with your audience
- 10:08deeper? Yeah, obviously you do. So now is the
- 10:11time to take some action, put some effort into
- 10:13this and move something off the back burner into
- 10:16the front burner and into your audience's dinner
- 10:18plate because the time is nigh. Sound like an
- 10:20old timey Game of Thrones. I've been watching
- 10:23The Crown lately. I started rewatching The Crown
- 10:25on Netflix for like the gazillionth time because
- 10:28it's my comfort show. So the time is now. But
- 10:32seriously, like start taking some action because
- 10:34you can either take action and be a little like
- 10:37nervous and embarrassed about taking that action
- 10:39or you can end up right here in the same spot
- 10:42next year at this time going, you know, I feel
- 10:44like I kind of missed the window on podcasting
- 10:46because everyone else is doing it. Look at how
- 10:48established they are. Guess what? That's your
- 10:50own fault for not taking the action and doing
- 10:52the dang thing. So let this be a little kick
- 10:54in the pants for you to finally get your podcast
- 10:56off the back burner and into at least cook mode.
- 10:59Like let's just turn the freaking front burner.
- 11:01on and move the pot and always if you need help
- 11:04with any of this if you are interested in learning
- 11:07how to do it yourself through my bet on your
- 11:08podcast online course the link for that is down
- 11:11below if you are wanting to pick my brain and
- 11:14ask questions about how to effectively get this
- 11:16going i would be happy to set up a pick your
- 11:18brain call with me if you are looking for someone
- 11:20just to produce the show for you so you don't
- 11:22have to worry about it also a thing i offer i
- 11:24have packages ranging from 400 a month all the
- 11:27way over 2000 depending on exactly how involved
- 11:30you want to be. So let's connect. Let's get this
- 11:33going and let's start cooking your podcast.
