Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: The real message in the Government's updated fuel plan
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The most interesting thing about the fuel ration plan has
- 0:03Speaker 1: actually nothing to do with fuel rationing. If you read
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Q and A the script from the Minister's office
- 0:08Speaker 1: provided and you quickly realize this thing will probably never
- 0:11Speaker 1: see the light of day in any practical sense. Trump
- 0:13Speaker 1: would need to drop a nuke for us to get there, essentially.
- 0:17Speaker 1: But what the plan spells out clear as day are
- 0:20Speaker 1: the most important industries, businesses, and government agencies in the country,
- 0:26Speaker 1: the ones that actually matter, top of the list, literally
- 0:29Speaker 1: first in line for a one hundred percent fuel allocation,
- 0:32Speaker 1: not that we'll get there. Ambulances, fire, an emergency and police.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Tell me the last time these guys were given proper
- 0:39Speaker 1: resources to do their jobs effectively. Paramedics are now, according
- 0:43Speaker 1: to the union, being asked to do cleaning. They're being
- 0:47Speaker 1: told not to change the sheets on gurneyes after every
- 0:50Speaker 1: patient to save on laundry. The union recons they're not
- 0:53Speaker 1: fully funded and they must often go cap in hand
- 0:56Speaker 1: to keep themselves running in a float. The firefighters spend
- 0:59Speaker 1: as much time I'm striking for adequate trucks to fight
- 1:02Speaker 1: the fires as they do while fighting the fires. And
- 1:04Speaker 1: as for police, yesterday we learned a third of resignations
- 1:08Speaker 1: a due to officers being poached by the Aussies for
- 1:11Speaker 1: better pay. Some of the stuff is funded by levies,
- 1:14Speaker 1: some by taxes. The rest is just well not funded
- 1:17Speaker 1: properly at all. This is not a cry for more
- 1:20Speaker 1: taxes to fund them, but rather a suggestion, a helpful suggestion,
- 1:25Speaker 1: dear listener, that anything not on the critical list is
- 1:29Speaker 1: where you would start cutting costs. What the government has
- 1:33Speaker 1: just done, wittingly or not, is tell us exactly what
- 1:37Speaker 1: keeps this country running. It's not a fuel rationing list
- 1:40Speaker 1: as much as a blueprint for who is actually important.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Emergency services, food to keep your bellies full, freight farming,
- 1:48Speaker 1: airport roads. We should be directing resources towards them and
- 1:52Speaker 1: cutting red tape around them. That surely would be one
- 1:56Speaker 1: of the smartest ways that we could get the country
- 1:58Speaker 1: back on track. For more Familier edition with Ryan Bridge,
